Somehow Palpatine Returned
Ok I had a hilarious thought and I need to share it with all of you. I don’t normally venture into the Sequels, for all that I have been a FinnPoe and a FinnPoeRey shipper for years, or into anything close to canon,  but I want to share this with you.
Picture if you will the moment where Poe is telling the audience that ‘Somehow Palpatine has returned’. Ponder for a moment Obi Wan Kenobi, in the Force, at that moment. The look on his face.
We are going with, somehow, Palpatine managed to hide his real identity from the Force Ghosts so they did not know he was still alive.
We are also, from my own personal headcanon, going with the idea that Obi Wan severely dislikes (as close to hate as he is capable of) Palpatine and has for almost fifty years at this point.  Like 90% of the horrible things that happened in Obi Wan’s adult life can be traced back to Palpatine (both directly and indirectly).
At the moment that Poe reveals that Palpatine is back, in the Force Obi Wan starts swearing. He starts swearing in every language he knows. He starts mixing languages in his swears. He starts inventing new curses and new languages to be able to express his displeasure at the news.
Obi Wan Kenobi is about ready to materialize into the mortal plane for the sole purpose of ripping Palpatine’s arm off and beating him with it (in a way that violates all manner of physics and Force).
Slightly to the Left of Obi Wan, Anakin Skywalker is staring at his grandson in mild horror going ‘why are you…this’.
The Force starts manifesting people to calm Obi Wan Kenobi down (For fear that Obi Wan will break…everything). First Force Sensitives and Jedi he cared for, then Clones, then non force sensitives, even a few old enemies.
Note 1: Maul appears at one point and screams ‘Kenobi’ for a really long time, to the point that everyone else (other than Obi Wan) looks at him. He shrugs and goes ‘I just wanted to get your attention’ then goes to sit down next to Satine so they can both score Obi Wan’s curses while splitting a bottle of Force Wine.
Note 2: Maul and Satine have a weirdly cordial relationship for being a pacifist government official ex girlfriend of a Jedi and the Sith Warlord that murdered her in front of said Jedi, but they have found in the afterlife that they both get joy from the face Obi wan makes when they argue about something inane with him. Also they may be each scoring Obi Wan’s swears (with the occasional addition of Yoda, Dooku, Ventress, and Padme) but they are using different metrics so their scores are vastly different at all time (Maul is scoring on Creativity, Violence, and the number of organs violated; Satine is scoring on creativity, number of languages used, how poetic/rhythmic, and how well it translates into basic).
A battalion's worth of clones are arrayed around Obi Wan, taking notes. Quinlan Vos appears and vanishes in rapid succession as he helps to calm then egg Obi Wan on (at which point the Force yanks him away only to be convinced to put him back). Cody tries to calm Obi Wan down for precisely three minutes, then he realizes what has Obi Wan so steamed. At that point he goes ‘no this reaction is completely valid’ and starts discussing how one would make some of those curses a reality (as they do violate physics, the Force, and human structural integrity. Also Palpatine does not even have some of those organs) with Qui Gonn Jinn, who is deeply amused but happy to bond with his pseudo son in law.
Plo Koon wanders through and announces that he is adopting all of the new stormtroopers both dead and living (in the mortal plane Finn, Rose, and others suddenly get the feeling that they have been absconded with and have no idea why).
In one corner Anakin, still despairing over Kylo Ren/Ben Solo and his life choices, is having an ongoing yet supremely awkward family reunion with one or more of the following at any given point and time: his wife, whom he had a hand in killing; his daughters adoptive parents, whom he helped murder; his daughter’s husband, who he tortured, froze in carbonite, and sold to a bounty hunter; and his step brother and step sister in law that rose his son on a planet that Anakin hated, whom he only didn’t torture because he never remembered they existed; Assorted Jedi who he had been close to, whom he might of had a hand in murdering.
That one corner has so much passive aggressiveness that it is insane.  A lot of Anakin asking out loud why Kylo Ren is…like that with one or more of the previously listed people going ‘Maybe if his grandfather didn’t become a Sith, Ben wouldn’t have gotten the idea’. Which is both slightly unfair, as Anakin had been dead by the time Ben Solo was born, but also funny as anything.
Also no one in that corner was actually discussing their elephant in the room, which was Anakin turned out to be THE PROBLEM for two decades.
There is an ever growing parade of everyone Obi Wan has ever met being thrown at him by the Force because the Force effectively went: SHIT that is a lot of anger. Deflect.Deflect.

hii do you have any fics where kurt has to fight for / woo blaine after a fight/breakup/conflict ?
HI - we have so many great reconciliation or reunion fics that have been written. I can't always remember which are Kurt trying to woo back Blaine, but here are some examples which I hope are what you are looking for. ~Jen
Passed down like folk songs by dizzywhizz
A story of Kurt growing up, meeting his best friend and losing him and finding him again, discovering himself in the process.
~~~~~
A Song For Cordelia by MelissaMotown   [PDF]  [EPUB]
Kurt never called Blaine after the break up, despite Isabelle’s advice. It was not out of spite, or because he didn’t believe she was right, but because his heart didn’t know how to forgive. Five years later, when their paths cross once more, Kurt and Blaine decides to be friends again - just friends. But where the heart goes, the man follows…
Part Two: One of the Good Guys  [PDF]  [EPUB]
Part Three: Carry Me Home (never completed) [PDF]  [EPUB]
~~~~~
A Week in the Hamptons by Afvampd Read at:  [PDF]  [EPUB]
Faced with a “live or die” situation in his career, Kurt Hummel, a small fashion designer in New York City, decides to take a breather and escape the city for a week in a retreat organized by his best friend. Thinking he has left his nightmare behind, he heads to Southampton, but what awaits him there is a far bigger nightmare; the love of his life who broke his heart 6 years ago. One week stuck in the same house, will Kurt regret having left the city, or is this nightmare really a blessing in disguise?
~~~~~
The Luckiest by wordplay
Blaine broke Kurt’s heart 3 months before high school graduation. Now, four years later, their group of friends reunites at a lake house to marry off two of their own. With luck, Kurt and Blaine will also be able to finally mend something that’s stayed broken for far too long.
~~~~~
Someone Like You by @iconicklaine
Kurt and Blaine keep up their very own version of “When Harry Met Sally” for years, a friendship fraught with sexual tension and longing, until the agendas of Adele (yes, THE Adele), a bored NY socialite and a super-sweet hetero couple bring our boys together. The only problem is… they’re both in committed relationships.
~~~~~
It’s A Wonderful Life by  DireDyre
Kurt never forgave Blaine for cheating, they never got back together, they moved on, married other people, started other families but ten-years-later when Rachel invites them to a party they realize they never moved on at all.
~~~~~
Since Sense Sensory by @gleefulpoppet
One rainy night, nestled at a patio table of a small café, Kurt broke off his engagement with Blaine in a moment of heated frustration that had been building for weeks. That was 12 years ago, and they haven’t seen each other since. Suddenly, they may find themselves reunited in a place they never expected. If you had a second chance with your first love, would you take it?
~~~~~
Stick Season by BlurglesmurfKlaine @jinglejavey
After Finn dies, Kurt leaves everything he knows behind without a trace. His hometown, his family, his boyfriend. When his dad has a medical scare, he returns to Lima, one year after breaking Blaine’s heart with no explanation.
A non-chronological series of one shots and drabbles set in this universe. Based on the Stick Season album by Noah Kahan
~~~~~
With Every Broken Bone by @spaceorphan18
After finding that living together is proving to be too difficult, Kurt Hummel breaks off his engagement, and finds himself alone in the city that summer. As his life heads in a new direction, Kurt's forced to look back at the past, and re-examine his future, where he learns a little about himself, a lot about love, and that second chances are always a possibility.
Set at the end of season 5, a canon-compliant story that examines the question -- What was Kurt's journey between season 5 and season 6?
~~~~~
Hush, Hush The world is Quiet by starsandcologne
AU Prompt: “Have you noticed how exhausting it’s been ever since you moved back in?” Blaine’s ears rang. But instead of reacting in anger that night he just quietly apologies to Kurt ending the argument. After that Blaine becomes a virtual ghost in their apartment. Its not that hard considering he’s had plenty of practice growing up. It just hurts that his Dad was right all along about him being a nuisance. Luckily he knows how to fix it. Live by the motto “Don’t be seen, don’t be heard.”
~~~~~
Reprise by  Calliope_Melpomene  Read at:  [PDF]
During Kurt’s senior year at NYADA, a life-changing event causes him to take a leave of absence and what was supposed to be a short stay turns into years. His life certainly isn’t what he expected, but he’s not exactly unhappy. His name is not lit up in lights on Broadway, but he’s involved in community theater and LGBTQ groups in Columbus and has friends who love him and casual lovers. But turning 35 has made him restless and he’s longing for the life he had before. Burt talks him into taking some classes at Ohio State University to finish his degree and start focusing on himself again. What Kurt finds on the OSU campus is much more than he bargained for.

snow queen would have a family reunion at some point, how chaotic would it be cuz I feel like some one would start a fight at some point
oh YES.
this sat in my drafts for a looong time because I had to try and figure out the logistics, as well as just how many people are being invited to this family reunion, so LET’S GO!
as a disclaimer — the family reunion would take place post-series, so Fionna and Cake canon is also fringe being considered.
firstly, we have the list of invitations. Magic Simon takes care of this, as he has a functioning memory (something that Snow Betty is mildly lacking in — she’s been worse, but it’s still a little bit closer to a sieve than a bowl). the invitees are:
- The Main Children: Marceline, Jake, Finn, Fionna, Cake, Gunther, Fern
- The Citizen Children: candy orphans, Little Dude, various penguinfolk, Snow Betty’s myriad of sentient ice constructs, The Grandpups
- The Family Adjacents Such As Spouses And Close Good Friends: Bonnibel, Lady Rainicorn, Phoebe, Prismo, BMO, Susan Strong, Marshall Lee, Gary Gumball
- Random People Who Are Somehow Also Invited: Huntress Wizard, various other princesses, Abracadaniel and Abracadebra, Peppermint Butler, Death, the Living Island, Minerva in the form of a bot, Lemongrab (for some godforsaken reason), King Man (formerly known as Magic Man), Glob Gob Grob Grod (who doesn’t show up but that’s probably for the best)
I’ve probably forgotten someone, but these are the people I remember so that’s who’s on the list. Patience St Pim is not invited and is actively uninvited, in the sense that they sent her a note saying ‘don’t you dare show up to this or we’re putting you in Magic Time Out again’. they have no idea if it reached her or not.
as for the reunion itself… well, it starts out okay? everyone seems to be getting along, Fern and Huntress Wizard hit it off, Little Dude is chilling on top of BMO while they both walk around and join in on people’s conversations, the penguins have started some sort of fish poker game and those delinquent candy orphans have joined them. all in all, everything seems to be going fine until someone (Peppermint Butler) makes a comment about someone else (Lemongrab) and it all goes to hell in a handbasket. Marceline is forced to restore order by flying up to hang from the chandelier and screech at everyone to sit down and behave themselves or there won’t be any dessert. Snow Betty does in fact freeze Lemongrab to his seat so he’ll behave himself. It’s not very effective. seating Death and King Man next to Peppermint Butler so he’ll be too distracted to be rude, however, is very effective.
Bonnibel gets to meet Gary and Marshall, who are just as weirded out by her as she is by them. their world is fantastical, sure, but it’s also based around a city, not a bunch of kingdoms. plus, it’s just kinda weird to meet your literal doppelgänger. Marceline took it a lot better, mostly because she was already used to Magic Simon and Snow Betty’s weirdness and was therefore prepared for the multiverse bullshittery.
Prismo, interestingly enough, does actually show up! he’s also the one who lets Fionna, Cake, Marshall, and Gary come over for the reunion. he brings Cosmic Owl as his plus-one, which is… interesting, but he also shows up as a 3D being, which is even weirded. he’s still completely pink though.
later in the evening, Huntress Wizard gets in a fistfight with a penguin and almost loses, but manages to win because Fern starts cheering her on. there’s probably more weird stuff that happens at the family reunion but this is already gettin way too long, so. ask me again maybe later

I think it would be really interesting for leo and sirius to talk ab how they both didn’t go to college and how they both joined the nhl at 18 but had v different upbringings
Ooo, I like this one! I’m always down for some Cap and Knutty bonding. SW credit goes to @lumosinlove!
TW for mentioned bad parenting
“Kinda weird, isn’t it?” Leo said, breaking the nighttime silence after many long minutes of just their breathing. Sirius hummed in question. “Starting all this so young.”
Sirius made a noncommittal noise and Leo shifted, never taking his eyes off the sky. There was too much light pollution to see the stars properly in Gryffindor, but the roof of the rink didn’t have a bad view; the planes flying overhead brought pinpricks of brightness to the indigo blur.
“Was it hard for you?”
He heard Sirius’ coat move. “Was what hard?”
“Starting the NHL at eighteen.”
There was a long beat of silence. “Sometimes.”
“I didn’t know if I would make it,” Leo confessed, still barely above a murmur. Nobody else was around, but it didn’t feel right to talk in normal voices. The whole world was muted, save for the noise of the city below them. “There was just so much to do.”
Sirius laughed softly. “I hate to break it to you, rookie, but that doesn’t change.”
“How do you deal with it?”
“Before, or now?”
Leo thought for a moment. “Both.”
“Before, I would go home and shoot pucks until I was too tired to stand up. Sometimes I would read.” It wasn’t a secret, but it still made Leo’s heart hurt to remember. Nobody as kind and hardworking as Sirius deserved that. “Now, I make myself some food, take a shower, and steal Re’s softest hoodie.”
Leo could hear his smile in the dark—it echoed his own. “Nothing better, huh?”
“Nope.”
“Finn’s fit me best,” he mused. “But Lo’s smell better.”
“Ah, he finally discovered deodorant?”
“Shut up,” Leo teased, elbowing his ribs. Sirius laughed a little louder; in the light of the streetlamps and the absence of his granite-hard focus, it was easy to remember that he was only 26. Leo had worshipped him as a kid, but now he just saw Sirius for what he was. His captain, who guided him through the playoffs even when his personal life was crumbling apart. His older brother, though Sirius certainly wouldn’t think of him that way. His friend.
“Really, though, it’s important to have those connections,” Sirius said when they both calmed down. “Being alone is good, but only if you know you have people to talk to when you need them.”
“Was it easier when you weren’t living with someone?”
“No.” The answer was immediate.
“Sometimes I want the apartment to myself.” Leo lowered his voice unconsciously, then sighed. “It’s not because I don’t want them there. I just need to be alone. Wash the dishes. Clean my room. Call my mom.”
“You should tell them.”
He turned his head slightly; Sirius was still scanning the sky. “Is that what you did?”
“It took a couple hiccups, but yeah. If one of us needs some alone time, the other will go to the grocery store or take a walk, maybe hang out with friends. You just have to make sure your boys know that it’s not personal.”
“You’re freakishly good at sage advice.”
Sirius snorted. “Merci, rookie.”
“I’m not a rookie anymore.”
“Yeah, you are.” He raised his hands, as if outlining a marquee. “The Eternal Rookie, starring Leo Knut.”
Leo stuck his tongue out, feeling rather petulant about the whole thing. “Watch it, Cap, I’m gonna sic Dumo on you.”
“My own father?” Sirius gasped dramatically. “How could you?”
“Did you ever get homesick?”
The question was out of the blue—he didn’t blame Sirius for faltering. Honestly, Leo was kicking himself for asking in the first place, though he had been keeping it in for ages. Unspoken rule of the Lions #1: Don’t ask Cap about his childhood.
“I…” Sirius fell silent once more.
“I’m sorry,” Leo apologized, and he meant it. “That came out of nowhere.”
“I missed Regulus,” Sirius continued carefully without acknowledging him. “But no, I didn’t get homesick. I didn’t have time, or a real reason.”
Alone in a new city, finally out of a horrible living situation, but desperately missing the little brother he left behind… Leo couldn’t even begin to imagine going through it when the NHL by itself was already overwhelming to his teenage brain. He scooted an inch closer until their shoulders touched. “I get homesick every couple of months.”
“You have a kind family.”
“Have you even met them?”
“At the party.” Sirius’ smile was practically audible. “Your mother was very excited to see me.”
“Oh, god,” Leo groaned. “What happened?”
“She—“ He broke off with a laugh. “She was very nice, I promise, but I think I surprised her because she squeaked when I said ‘hello’.”
Leo shook his head. “Did you sneak up on her?”
“I’m six two, I can’t sneak up on anyone!”
“You walk like a fucking ghost, dude! It’s creepy!”
“Okay, rude.”
“I swear, you and Loops need to be belled like cats,” Leo huffed.
They lapsed back into comfortable quiet for a few more minutes as a train rattled past on one side and the metro busses rolled down Main Street on the other. It had taken Leo a long time to figure out Gryff’s layout, and even longer to get used to the sounds of the city.
“What does it feel like?”
Leo blinked, unsure if he had heard correctly. “What?”
“Being homesick.” Sirius shifted again and folded his hands over his stomach. “I didn’t notice much of a difference in practices when I started the NHL, and going back to my parents’ house wasn’t my exactly a highlight of my year.”
Curiosity overrode his tact and reasoning skills. “You never asked Logan?”
“Non. It was different, with him. He had already left to go to college before I knew him, and spent four years away from his family.”
“Right.” Leo forgot about that on occasion. That Finn and Logan might be five years older than him, but they had only been rookies a year or two prior. Not everyone went straight from their city select team to an official draft. “It’s hard to describe.”
Sirius made an understanding noise, but he couldn’t entirely mask his disappointment. Leo licked his lips and tried again.
“It’s like a piece of you isn’t where it’s supposed to be. And it keeps tugging on your chest, but you never know when it’s going to start and stop so you just… deal with it. You ignore it some days and you think about it other days.” He swallowed around the lump in his throat. “The hard days are when you remember you can’t go back to the way things were before. I don’t even call my mom sometimes, ‘cause I know it’ll make me sadder.”
“The way things were before?”
“Yeah, like—like all my classmates are in college, and I’m laying on a roof with one of the most famous hockey players in the history of forever.” That drew a light laugh from them both. “I’m gonna go back to my reunion in a couple years and have literally nothing in common with the people I used to be friends with.”
“Sometimes I wish I went to college,” Sirius said. “But I would have missed so much if I did. I don’t think I would have been happy there.”
“Finn and Logan get weird about college.” Maybe he shouldn’t be talking about it, but Leo had the feeling none of their conversation would leave the rooftop. “It was hard for them, with all their shit.”
“Re does, too.” He recognized the sad edge in Sirius’ voice; it was the same as his own. “For a different reason. It started good, and ended bad.”
“I’m glad I missed out on that,” Leo said, biting down the urge to scream at the universe for putting their significant others through so much hardship at an already-difficult time. None of them deserved the pain they went through. “Besides, it’s not like we need degrees to play hockey, and we’ll have plenty of money afterward.”
“I never thought about my life after hockey until my ankle.”
“My parents always pushed me to make sure I wanted to do the NHL instead of more school.”
“You’re lucky to have them.”
“I wish you did.”
The words hung suspended between them before Leo could swallow them back down, somehow dangerous and calming at the same time. It wasn’t like he had never thought about it before; he just hadn’t said it out loud. The first time he had seen Sirius’ parents across the rink had given him a case of the heebie-jeebies so strong he had to shower twice. All the times after that just made him angry.
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be.” Sirius’ voice was quiet, but not upset. “You’re not the first person to say it. I’m glad you feel like you can be honest with me.”
Leo frowned. “Well, yeah. Obviously.”
“I try really hard to not be an asshole captain, so it actually does mean a lot.”
“I don’t think you could be an asshole if you tried.”
The barking laugh that split the night startled Leo so bad he nearly jumped out of his skin; Sirius clapped a hand over his mouth, though he was still snickering. “Sorry, sorry, I just—holy shit, I forgot you didn’t know me before. Mon dieu.”
“You weren’t that bad,” Leo protested. “Pots said you used to be grumpier, but that’s it.”
Sirius shook his head, wiping tears of mirth from his eyes. “I was such a dick. There’s not a single picture of the whole team where I’m smiling for about two years and I was such a stickler for the rules.”
Leo gaped at him. “You followed rules?”
“To the fucking letter. It was awful.”
“What happened?”
Sirius shrugged. “I got friends. Idiot friends who did things like showing me the easiest way onto the roof. Pots used to drag me up here every Friday.”
“Really?”
“Ouais.” Mischief flitted over his face. “He skipped date night with Lily once on accident, and she tracked us up here like a bloodhound. It was terrifying.”
“What did you do?” Lily was one of the nicest people Leo knew, but he knew better than to get on her bad side.
“Lied to her face while James hid behind that strobe light.”
“Did it work?”
“Are you kidding?” he snorted. “She called me a liar and suggested getting a better best friend. That was after she told James he’s better have something nice planned for their next date if he ever wanted to get in her pants again.”
“And yet you didn’t listen to her.” Leo tsked. “Of all the people on the team, you chose the hot mess.”
“Trust me, rookie, James had his whole life figured out compared to me.”
“Did you…” Leo trailed off and but his lip. He had pushed his luck a lot already; who knew if one more question would be the tipping point? “Did you ever think about coming out? Even just to Pots.”
Sirius didn’t hesitate. “After every single game.”
“For seven years?”
“Up until the day those pictures were leaked. Even more after Re and I were together.”
“How old were you when you knew?”
“13. You?”
Leo exhaled slowly. “I’m not sure. I think I had an idea of it as a kid, but didn’t really get it until I was in high school. My parents were even more worried about the NHL after I told them.”
“They worry a lot about you.”
“Only child, and I was going for a wildly unstable career path with no guarantee that I would ever see the ice.”
“They’re proud of you. More than you know.” Sirius’ watch beeped. “It’s ten o’clock. Are you supposed to be home?”
“I should probably make sure my boys haven’t burned down the apartment.” Neither of them made an attempt to move. “Can we do this again sometime?”
“Of course.”
You’re like a brother to me, he wanted to say. I don’t know who else I can talk to like this. “Thank you.”
“Any time. We don’t have to do extra practice beforehand, either.”
Leo nudged him gently. “You’re the best captain ever.”
“You’re the best rookie, rookie.”
“I’m not a rookie.”
“Yeah, you are.”
Yeah, I am, he thought as they laid side-by-side in silence once more with the past behind them and the future ahead. And if I end up like you, it means I did something right.

Voltron Tag
Because I just want to do it.
How did you discover the show? I discovered it through my dad. He was a fan of the 80s series when he was a child. He even has an old toy yellow lion and Hunk out on display. Around when season 2 was still new, he was basically like “Hey, you should check this series out! I think you’d like it. There’s also a character voiced by the same guy as Finn.” so we watched it together and bonded over it.
Was it love at first sight or did it take you a while to get into the show? I fell in love immediately and I hyperfixated on it for at least a year. It's still special to me despite all of its issues, and that hyperfixation still comes and goes.
Do you have a favorite episode(s)? There were so many good ones. I honestly don’t know what my favourite is, but to name a few:
The Rise of Voltron
The whole Balmera arc, because Hunk is my son, my star, and I love to see him shine
The Black Paladin
The Depths
The Blade of Marmora
Blackout
The Legend Begins... just any glimpse I get at Blaytz and Gyrgan
Reunion
Monsters & Mana
The Black Paladins. THE KURON VS KEITH FIGHT SCENE YOOO
Do you have a favorite Paladin? Lance was always my favourite, and Hunk is a very close second. I think I relate to them the most.
Do you have a favorite Lion? Blue. I always wanted to pilot Blue. Maybe because it’s one of my favourite colours, and I’ve also got a connection to water - being a Scorpio, living on the coastline, being interested in marine biology, and being a swimmer? Idk  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Do you have a favorite Alien Race? Whatever Plaxum, Blaytz and Gyrgan are. I wish we got to know more about the last two, especially.
Favorite side/other character(s)? I absolutely adore Coran. Outside of Team Voltron - Matt, Kolivan, Acxa, Rizavi and Veronica, and I was also really intrigued by Lotor before they messed him up and turned him into sOUP???
How/Why did you join the fandom? I got really involved in the fandom because I just loved the show, but the only people I could talk about it with irl was my dad and kind of my sister. My old main tumblr was just all VLD for that period of time, and I mostly posted fanart and some memes, gushed about Klance, and convinced thousands of people that Mothman-fan!Keith was 100% canon. It was great.
What are some of your headcanons?
Shiro has a younger brother that Keith reminds him of
And before their history was revealed, I thought Shiro was like Keith’s adoptive father, or at least a supportive family friend who took him in after his dad passed
Pidge is autistic and non-binary, because me too
Lance has ADHD, because me too
Lance and Hunk were childhood friends
Autistic, lactose intolerant, hippo-loving, Mothman-simping, gay, half-Galra, Korean-Texan cowboy Keith was wild and pretty funny to me, and I still subscribe to most of that lmao
What do you think is the best part of the show? The characters and their potential was always the main draw for me. They’re still so important to me. I also loved the art style, the alien designs, and big robot vs. monster fights are always fun to me.
What were your hopes and wishes for future episodes/seasons?
I knew Keith was gonna inherit the black lion but I choose not to shut up about black paladin Allura
More fleshed out backstories (which I’m working hard on for my rewrite rn)
Getting to know everyone’s families better
Shiro speaking some Japanese, Lance speaking some Spanish, or just the Paladins sharing more human culture with the Alteans rather than just the other way around.
*cough* Canon Klance, although I also like the idea of Allurance. I just didn’t like the way they ended up portraying it. They also didn’t do a very good job of shutting down Klance and convincing they weren’t also in love lmao
Just Lance being happy again tbh like wtf?
Did you stick it out until the end of the show? I ended up dropping the series around season 4. I don’t remember if it was because I was already bored or too disappointed to go on, or that part of the fandom got too much, or just because I changed hyperfixations and didn’t get around to finishing it. I learned what happened next through other people’s reactions and it was so disheartening, but I finally rewatched and finished it myself recently. It was a rushed blur, but it was nice to relive the good moments.

FEEL FREE TO SEND ME ASKS ABOUT HOW YOU LIKED THAT CHAPTER
OR IF YOU DIDN'T LIKE IT PLEASE TELL ME WHY
THANK :)
Yeehaw Leo… it's all because this song came on one day (I don’t even really listen to country anymore so it really is fate). Leo is based off that song, each chapter is going to be based off a yeehaw song too.
Characters belong to @lumosinlove
Beta: @the-most-slyterin-hufflepuff & @punkkkboi
TW/CW: Smut, terrible yeehaw sayings and jokes, injuries, mentions of past death/suicide, minor character death, underage drinking, mentions of past arrests, cringe
Chapter Songs (listening in order is recommended):
Chapter 13:
Anchors Away
Clay was bored, wandering around the mall with nothing to do. Thomas was at practice, Noelle was at work at the aquarium. He was alone again and he really didn’t like it. Leo was busy cleaning the apartment for his mom who is showing up later tonight and Reg was hanging out at the rink.
Clay thought about going to the rink but everytime he goes for longer than 20 minutes he gets a head cold. He was walking past a recently closed store and heard faint music coming from inside. He walked in and noticed a small table set up with two men who were jokingly singing along to the song.
Clay took note of all the posters around the small store.
‘Feeling like you need a purpose in life?’ Yeah, he does. Everyone around him is doing actual things with their lives. Reg has started going to art school for errotic photography and portraits. Leo has been selling horses over video calls with rich clients and helping his mother set up times for the clients to go down and visit the horses at the ranch. Obviously, the hockey boys are playing hockey. Noelle is a year away from graduating and was recently promoted, and Clay just kind of existed…
Leo jokingly called him a houseboy when he mentioned how he just stays at home and cleans, now that's all he is ever called by Leo and Reg and it really makes Clay feel worthless. He knows they don’t mean anything by it but…. It still stings.
He moves on to the next poster. “Want financial benefits, healthcare, and more?”
That would be nice, to make his own money for once instead of his parents randomly filling his account with too much money. Something he knows he shouldn’t complain about but he wants to make a name for himself.
‘Join the U.S Navy.’ He paused, he doesn’t know a lot about his birth family, but he does know they were in the military. He has no clue which branch and he knows if he asked his parents they would help him in a heartbeat. But maybe this was a way to find out on his own.
He left the mall feeling lighter, a pep in his step.
He just enlisted in the navy. He was going to make something of himself and maybe even feel like he isn’t just watching his friends and partners pass him by.
Then it hit him, the one thing Leo and him promised each other they would never do is join the military. Because they both know how it fucks people up. Leo lost his uncle, and Clay’s dad lost his own father to PTSD from not having proper care after. Maybe he just screwed up…. But there was no going back now. He wouldn’t.
Walking in the house, Noelle was looking beautiful. She was wearing a pair of sweats rolled up twice at the waist and one of Clay’s old ratty t-shirts. Her curly hair was in her normal ponytail and she was putting on her sneakers. She looked tired from work.
Earlier in the week when Clay and Leo announced Eloise was coming to visit for a few days Noelle started stressing immediately. She has always worried about meeting parents because they always seem to dislike her when they first lay eyes on her, she blames it on her chronic RBF. Clay reassured her that Eloise would love her and actually already loves her from all the stories Clay has told her on her weekly calls.
Eloise was coming tonight, fuck! It was his birthday today and he forgot to mention it! Oops...
Thomas was sitting next to her, freshly showered in his own sweats and t-shirt looking relaxed, he was wearing some socks with little hamsters on them that Clay found for him a while ago. It made his heart jump and he felt his face stretch into a smile. He was scrolling through his phone and Thomas’ whole face opened up in a bright smile as soon as he saw Clay. He made Clay feel so special in a specific way, a way that is so different from how Noelle does and he loves them both.
He needs to tell them that.
“I have something to tell you guys… honestly, I don’t know how you will react but what's done is done.” He puts his hands in his jean pockets and taps the hell of his boots to the toe of his other boot. He was fidgeting and knew the other two noticed. It made him even more nervous.
“That doesn’t sound like good news.” Thomas looks at him a bit worried. His smile was still there but it fell slightly and Clay just wanted to fix it. He noticed Noelle had paused stomping on her shoes, oddly similar to Logan, it made him want to stop what he was going to say but… communication is important!
“Well, I first need you guys to promise me something, then I will make Finn and Logan promise the same thing when we see them because I know I will have to tell them.” He has to tell them, so they are ready for Leo just, not being okay.
And it was all gonna be Clay’s fault.
“What's the promise?” Noelle finishes putting on her shoe and looks up at him. She is trying her best to keep her face neutral but he could tell the wheels were turning in her brain.
“Do not tell Leo, I need to be the one to tell him… and I know he isn’t going to react well. Same goes for Reg but I will probably tell him a lot sooner than Leo.” He keeps on switching his feet that he is tapping and finally looks at them.
It’s now or never.
“I enlisted in the navy today.”
“Okay, Reg and I are going to pick up Ma and then we will be right back!” Leo has been all smiles all day. Finn knew he was close to his mom but this is just adorable.
“Drive safe!” Leo and Reg wave as they leave the apartment and as soon as the door closes Clay is standing in front of Finn and Logan who are snuggled together on the couch. Logan was wrapped up in Leo’s favorite blanket that his grandpa made for him before he passed away. It was a woven blanket with an image of Peanut on it. That blanket has seen Leo and Clay in their worst moments.
He was surprised Logan wasn’t scared of it given his fear of horses.
“Alright you two, I need to tell you something and it needs to be kept secret from Leo and Reg, if you so much as tell them a peep I will never forgive you. That will make family reunions super awkward.” Finn looks up from his phone where he and Logan were reading the comments on their latest tiktok on their joined account.
“Don’t look at me.” Finn raises his hand on surrender and looks at Logan who rolls his eyes annoyed and snatches Finn’s phone away to keep reading the comments.
“I enlisted in the navy-” Clay didn’t even get the full sentence out before Logan had thrown the phone down on the cushion next to him and Finn covered his mouth with his hand looking shocked.
“YOU DID WHAT?”
“Mama!” Leo hugs Eloise tightly as she drops her bags to hug him back. “How was the flight?” He squeezes her tightly before noticing her new hearing aid is flashing is three blinks then a pause and three more blinks. “I think your hearing aid is dying. Make sure to charge them when we get home.” She either ignores him or doesn’t hear him even though she can normally hear him this close.
“Rick was a great pilot as always, even let me bring y’all some moonshine he made. It's watermelon and raspberry!.” Eloise pulls away after one last squeeze and sees Reg and her smile widens. “Reg! I’m so happy you’re here!” She waits for him to open his arms as an invitation to hug him so she knows he is comfortable with her touching him and she does as soon as he opens his arms. Tighter than she did Leo. “Have you been eating well? How about sleeping? Did you ever enroll in college?”
“Yes, yes and yes.” Reg can’t help but laugh when she picks him up still hugging him and sways him around. He isn’t used to this much affection from a mother figure but… they love it.
“I’m so proud of you for following your dream.” She pulls away and smiles at him with a sincere smile and brushes his hair back. “Your hair looks nice by the way.”
“Thank you.” Reg and Leo help her with her bags and pack them into the truck and drive the short way back to the apartment. Talking about everything and anything. The door man sends a wink Eloise’s way and she holds up her left hand where her wedding ring is. Letting him know she is taken. Walking up to the apartment they smell an odd smell through the door and everyone shares a look.
“I promise it doesn't normally smell this way unless… oh no.”
“What does that mean!?” She leans over to Reg to whisper as Leo fiddles with his key in the lock.
“It means Finn and Logan tried to cook something.” Reg whispers to Eloise as Leo opens the door, Clay was the first to greet them, smiling his million dollar smile he hugs Elosie so tight it surprises her.
“Hello Bluebell! I was surprised I didn’t see you at the airport. How are you doing sweetheart! Twenty years old today! You’re all growing up so fast.” She kisses his forehead and they pull apart. “You look good. Your mother wants you to call her later tonight so she can sing happy birthday.”
“It's your birthday!” Noelle pipes up and looks at Clay offended. “And you didn’t tell us!” He cringes before turning to her.
“Oh, I guess I forgot.” He walks over to her and kisses her cheek while Eloise puts her hand on her chest from just how cute they are.
“Seems like that should have been the first thing you told us this morning instead of, ‘ I feel like a jellyfish’.” Thomas laughs a little and kisses both Noelle and Clay’s cheeks. “So cute.”
“It slipped my mind!”
“Okay, what is that smell?” Leo leads Eloise towards the kitchen after she is done fawning over how cute those three are. Finn and Logan are suspiciously standing in the way of the countertop right next to the stove. “What are you hiding?”
Finn turns bright red and Logan looks anywhere but Leo. Eloise sets her purse on the counter and walks over to them, giving them both kisses on the cheek.
“What did you make us?”
“Well… we tried to make a cake from your cookbook-”
“It didn’t go very well.” They both move to the side to reveal a lopsided cake with some diluted frosting dripping off and random coconut flakes floating around on it. “Can you at least tell what it is?” Logan casually turned the plate so the ‘good side’ was facing Leo and Eloise.
“Umm… not really. Do you mind just telling us?” Eliose was examining the cake, trying to figure out what cinnamon cake she had in her cookbook. None that she can remember.
“Something called,” Finn walks over to the book and notices Clay and Reg standing to the side with their phones up and probably recording. “Divinity Cake.” The room was suddenly really still and quiet. Eloise looked like she was about to cry and Leo was just staring at the cake in shock.
Then Eloise brokedown in laughter, to the point where she was laughing so hard she was on the ground holding her stomach and crying. Finn and Logan were visibly confused and looked to Leo for an explanation, only to find him trying to conceal his laughter in the crooks of his arm.
“Oh my god! What is so funny?” Logan looks at the cookbook and then back at the cake. It looked terrible but they tried their best! They didn’t burn the house down at least.
“Oh my lovely lovely boys.” Leo wraps an arm around both their shoulders and pulls them in close so they are all cheek to cheek for a moment. “Divinity cake is usually cooked for your in-laws in the south.. To prove you are worthy of being a good wife.” explains through his laughing breaks. “This is amazing.”
Eloise eventually stands up and dabs her eyes so she doesn’t smear her makeup. Pulling the two embarrassed boys into a tight hug. “Y’all are so sweet. Thank you for the cake.” She gives them both sloppy kisses on the cheeks and then pats where she just kissed. “Alright I’m going to put my things in the guest room and then we can cook something up for y’all to eat.” She smiles and takes most of her bags to the guest room but forgets her purse. “Finn, would you be a dear and grab my purse for me?” She calls out and Finn being the sweetheart he is, grabs the bag and tries to take it with him as he walks past.
The bag won’t budge, Leo is watching with a smile on his face and his arms crossed. Finn tugs at the bag again and eventually gets it off the counter, it nearly knocks him over with how heavy it is. He scurried to Eloise’s room and gave it to her. She holds it like it’s nothing.
He makes his way back over to Leo and sinks into his chest, his face buried in his neck. Logan is still poking the cake, showing off just how gelatinous it is. Clay and Reg are comparing videos that they took and laughing at how they zoomed in on different faces. Sending them to each other.
“I’m sorry we messed up the cake.” Finn looks up at Leo and sees the sweetest little smile, showing his dimples off. Finn has noticed Leo’s tan from the summer is fading and it is making the small scar across his nose more prominent. It was cute.
“Honestly, it’s better than anything else y’all have made. Plus, now Mama can teach you how to make it the right way for the next time she visits.” Leo kisses his eyebrow and wraps his arms around him as Finn pouts even more. Logan eventually makes his way over and rests his head on Leo’s shoulder.
“Maybe it still tastes good?” He closes his eyes and rubs his cheek on Leo’s soft shirt and tough shoulder, massaging his jaw muscles. His arms are crossed.
“We can try it afte Mama and I make some food, how about y’all pick out what you want so she can put on her mini cooking show.” Leo feels the boys lean off of him and smiles as he watches them pour over each page of the book looking for a meal they want.
“Alright, I’m ready to cook.” Eloise comes back into the room and gathers everyone so they are sitting on the other side of the counter, unless they are Reg or Leo because they are allowed to help cook. Finn and Noelle have taken the two seats while Clay and Thomas are on either side of them watching and Logan is in between them.
They all watch as Eloise explains what she is doing in hopes it helps them understand and make them want to try and make this on their own. Logan gets in trouble for focusing on Leo instead of what she is teaching and she gives him a smirk.
“You remind me a lot of Wyatt, you know that? Around the same height too.” She smiles as she fiddles with her ring after she washed her hands to get the rest of the flour off her hands. Leo is watching the food in the oven as he leans against the counter and nods in agreement with her.
“I do?” Logan looks at her a little confused, he sadly never got the chance to meet Wyatt but he always pictured him as more of the strong and silent type who was also tall, giving Leo his extra few inches of height.
“He was 5’10 and the sweetest man I have ever met, he was goofy and carefree like Finn and always had this hard look in his eyes like you do. Unless he was looking at Leo or I, or in your case Leo. Please don’t look at me like that.” Leo snorts and smiles.
“That would be kinda weird.” He turns his head over his shoulder and smiles at his boys. “Why don’t we tell them some stories about dad? I never really talk about him because… well, it still hurts.” Eloise smiles a little sad at her son and gives his arm a comforting squeeze. Her love language.
“Well, he was in the air force.” She notices Clay looking away, Noelle suddenly looks uncomfortable and Thomas looks a little sad. Something was off. “He and his twin brother Wess joined at the same time, and flew fighter jets together. His brother was shot down and Wyatt made Leo promise to never join. After he came back he vowed to never leave again. He kept his promise.” She smiles at the image of him coming home still fresh in her mind. “He was in love with music, sometimes I think he loved music more than us. He tried to get Leo to learn how to play instruments but the poor boy is so tone deaf he couldn’t figure anything out.” She laughs a little as Leo smiles. “I remember when Leo was being taught the guitar Wyatt would be thrown into laughing fits when Leo would play the wrong chords and smile up at him like he just did something.”
“I thought I did!” Leo laughs a little and turns around to face everyone else. “Look It took me forever to learn rhythm, and now I can dance like there is no tomorrow… still can’t sing though.”
“Ahmen!” Clay pipes up and ducks as Leo throws a spoon at him.
“Shut up!”
“Wyatt did manage to teach Clay how to play fiddle somehow, do you still play?” Eloise checks the food in the oven and determines it's not done.
“I haven’t played since… yeah I haven’t played in a while.”
“He was so proud of you. Wyatt was also a sportsman. He loved sports, especially baseball. So when Leo came home and told Wyatt he joined the team, they went out back and played catch for, I don’t know, hours.”
“My arm was sore the next day.”
“He came to every single game of Leo’s besides one, and was his biggest fan. He made shirts with Leo’s player picture on them and wore them to every game. No matter how many times Leo begged him not to!” The timer goes off and Reg gets the food out of the oven.
“Is this done?” He asks, Eloise comes over to check and nods.
“Looks good! How about we eat?” She smiles and has everyone line up so she can dish it out for them.
Thomas and Noelle are getting ready to leave when Eloise asks Clay to join her outside. He gives them a worried look but follows her. Outside is cold, and there is a bit of snow on the railing of the balcony.
“Talk to me Clayton, something is wrong, I noticed it earlier.” She looks at him and taps her foot as he pulls out a cigarette and lights it. “Clayton.”
“I joined the navy, and I haven’t told Leo, and I ask that you don’t tell him either because he needs to hear this from me.” He is looking out at the traffic below so he doesn’t have to watch her face. He knows she is upset with him.
“Is that what you really want to do?” She walks up next to him and joins him in looking at the traffic. Clay has always admired how strong Eloise is, she has been through a hell of a lot and still has this calm and stable energy.
“Yes.”
“Then you made the right choice.” She turns and looks at him, smiling in a way that he knows is trying to hide her sadness. She ruffles his hair as he finishes his cig and puts it out on the bottom of his boot. “Have you told Noelle and Thomas?”
“Yeah.” He knows his short answers sound hostile but he wants to be away from this conversation.
“They support you?” She always makes sure he has support, it hurts sometimes. Like he can’t just get support himself and he always needs help.
“Yes.” She nods and walks back towards the door.
“Then you better spend as much time with them as you can.” She goes inside, leaving Clay to think about everything by himself.
It was dangerous.
He walks back inside and they leave. Noelle turns around from the passenger seat and smirks at Clay. He was in for a fun night.
“I’m off to bed boys, we have a busy day tomorrow!” Elosie kisses her boy's cheeks and walks to her room.
“I like you mom.” Logan says as he tackles Leo to the ground straddling his back with his scented markets in hand. He tugs at Leo’s shirt, he complies and takes it off. Logan has been dying to do this all day.
“I hope not too much!” Leo crosses his arms under his head until Finn sits down next to him and he pulls his thigh so it's underneath Leo’s head. Leo shivers as the cold marker hits his skin and Logan begins coloring.
“What other stories do you have about Wyatt?” Finn rubs his fingers over Leo’s short hair that has really grown out over the past month, it was starting to curl at the ends making Leo look sweet.
“He used to read to me when I was little, then when I was able to read I would read to him until he fell asleep and started snoring.” Leo smiles and Finn can feel it on his leg. “He was also my coach for little league baseball for a bit and he was great but not everyone liked that he was my dad. Other parents thought I was getting special treatment. Also he would argue with the umpires and get in trouble!” Leo bursts out laughing and Logan gorans.
“Leoooooooooo! Be still!” Leo calms down and lets Logan keep coloring the flowers of his back piece.
“Sorry sorry, I just remembered when he got kicked out of a game because an umpire called Clay out when he was safe. It was hilarious. He called the umpire a muppet.” Smiling Leo yawns and blinks a few times.
“You can fall asleep, we will wake you up and go to bed when Logan finishes.” Finn is scrolling on his phone and is petting Leo’s head as he feels it get heavier with sleep. Finn looks up at Logan after making sure Leo is asleep.
“We need to tell him we love him.”
“Yeah, we do.” They smile at each other and share a peck before going back to what they were doing.
The next morning Finn and Logan wake up with a Leo sized dent in the bed and not Leo. They wander out to the kitchen and get smacked in the face with the smell of blueberry pancakes. They float into the kitchen and smile at the sight. Eloise has her hair in curlers and is in a thick grey robe and Leo’s sweatpants because she doesn’t own a pair. Her face is free of makeup and it shows how well she has taken care of her skin over the years. She is flipping a couple of pancakes while Leo sips on some apple juice. Just chatting away about the plan for today.
“Okay so after family skate is the party at Pascal and Celeste’s.”
“I won’t be at family skate dear, I have some work to do today.” She puts the last pancake on a plate, making sure that each plate has two, she takes two plates over to the table while Leo carries the other two.
“Ma, you promised me you wouldn’t work while you were here.” He sighs and sets the plates down. He sighs and sits down, not noticing the other two people in the room, he starts poking at his pancakes with his cheek on his hand and elbow on the table. Sulking.
“I know sweetheart but these people are someone who your Daddy tried to sell to for years. They plan to get two mares and then I will be at the party. On time. I promise.” She puts the dishes from cooking in the sink and fills the pancake batter bowl with hot water before grabbing her cup of coffee and walking over to sit next to Leo.
Logan and Finn share a look. They shouldn’t be listening to this.
“Okay but, just please be there towards the beginning of the party. I want to introduce you to my-... the team.” Leo furrows his brow not understanding why he about called the lions his team, when he doesn’t even play hockey.
“I will try my best, Merigold.” She pats his hand and Logan and Finn make their entrance, yawning and stretching as they walk over to the table. “Morning boys.”
“Morning!” Finn smacks a kiss on Leo’s temple as he walks past and Logan does the same, taking their seats and chowing down.
Later that day Eloise was putting her hair in a ponytail as she checked to make sure there were no creases in her uniform. Well, it's not a uniform but what she likes her and Leo to wear when they go to sell.
A black tall-neck turtle neck with long sleeves and tight to the body. Some khaki colored riding pants with tall back socks and brown riding boots. Professional yet comfortable. She was selling to the Malfoy family today, the father is buying these mares for his sons wedding coming up. She is still convinced that they only want their mares because Wyatt is gone, making Knut horses more desirable.
They were in contact with Wyatt for years and were not very nice. She knows she needs to make this sale though. Walking out to the living room to grab her purse she sees Leo moping on the couch by himself. She sighs out of her nose, walking over to him and petting the top of his head.
“I promise I will be there tonight, with moonshine.” She smiles as Leo rolls his eyes.
“I trust you.” Then he stood and gave her good luck and a hug before walking back to his bedroom… not the master bedroom. She takes a deep breath and leaves the apartment.
The rink was cold, Leo was bundled up in his new coat, hat and gloves while rocking his normal jeans and boots. His brand new skates were in hand, not broken in so he was wearing two pairs of tall socks just to help against blisters. Clay actually owned a pair of skates and has been skating since he was younger because he has family in Montana that he would visit for the holidays.
Jerk.
Leo was sitting in Finn's stall just trying to stay warm while he watched Noelle tie one of Clay’s skates and Thomas tie the other. Leo had to admit, he was so happy for Clay, seeing him with that sappy smile makes Leo know that he’s okay. He never smiled like that with Ashley.
Logan walks over to him, completely ready to skate and looking good. He was wearing his favorite well worn sweats and Leo’s new thrifted sweater that was dark green, showing off his eyes. He was wearing his normal cap backwards and Leo has always found it funny that Logan will never wear a hat forwards.
“Ready to get laced up?” Leo nods and holds out a skate to Logan. “You’re very quiet right now, are you that cold?” Leo just narrows his eyes and gives a short nod. Logan shows him how to lace up and once his other skate is on he stands up and nearly falls over.
“This is going to be terrible… is there a dentist nearby? I have a tendency to fall teeth first into the ground.” Licking over his chipped tooth absentmindedly he looks around. There were kids running around in skates and jumping into other players arms. He smiles a bit and rests his elbow on Logan’s head who is wear much more worn down skates so Leo is a fucking giant to him. “You’re the perfect height.”
“Yeah yeah, lets watch you try and walk. Then we can find Finn who I’m guessing is talking to Syd.” Logan helps Leo take a few steps knowing Leo has no balance at all. In skates or not. He has witnessed this name trip over nothing.
“Whose Syd?” Leo starts walking on his own and feels like this isn’t so bad.
“My oldest sister. Aubry is here too. They also play professional hockey. So… don’t get on their bad sides.” Leo stops walking.
“You never mentioned your sisters will be here! I thought I was meeting them when we go to visit your parents in a week! Oh boy… Do they know about you and Finn?” Leo continues walking after Logan grabs his hand and leads him out of the tunnel.
“Yes they know about me and Finn, I told my family first because… well my parents love him and my sisters all had a bet so… yeah. But they don’t know about you because I didn’t know if you were ready for that.” Leo stops him before they completely exit the tunnel and presses him up against the wall, kissing him softly.
“Thank you.” Leo smiles when Logan does and they pull apart to see they are the last out of the tunnel. Walking out Leo stops in front of the ice. “Yo, I don’t know if I have enough ego to let me fall face first onto the ice in front of a whole hockey team yet.”
“What, you aren’t up for the challenge?” Clay skates right up to him, not as seamless as everyone else but still pretty well. He has this challenging look in his eyes and Leo knows exactly what is going to happen. “I knew you weren’t good at everything.” Leo launches himself at LCay who skates out of the way just in time for Leo to miss and barely holds himself up as he glides across the ice.
“Clay! When I get my hands on you, I swear!” Then he falls flat on his ass and gorans laying down, staring at the ceiling annoyed. This sucks.
Clay is having an absolute field day, Laughing his ass off as he skates up to Leo and helps him stand. Patting his back for a moment and letting Leo get his balance he then pushes him over and skates away.
“CLAYTON!” Leo falls basically into a middle split and it distracts Finn from his conversation with Logan and his sisters, hitting Logan’s chest until he looks over at Leo who is still being taunted by Clay and now Reg.
“I didn’t know he could do that.” They share a look and both seem to get ideas around the same time because their faces get all reg and they high five.
“Who is that?” Sydney is readjusting her hat as she looks at Leo. “He’s a cutie, I wouldn’t mind getting a piece of that.”
“Agreed. He is really handsome.” Aubry nods in agreement and Logan is suddenly possessive. He glares at them.
“Back off, he’s mine!” He crosses his arms and turns his attention back to Leo who is now talking to Katie who has made herself at home on his leg. Leo looks like he is trying his best not to shake from how cold he is.
“You have Finn, let us have our fun.” Aubrey hits his shoulder and skates over to Leo and Katie. “Need some help?” Katie smiles at her. Leo looks up at her and gives a shy smile because he is embarrassed. Nodding she holds out her hand, Katie grabs his other hand and helps him up. With Katie on one side and Aubry on the other, Leo starts more skating and less falling over.
“Awww they are so cuteeeee.” Sydney smiles at them and hears Logan grumble, looking at them annoyed and Finn is still snorting everytime Leo stumbles. But Finn has this look in his eyes that Sydney has only ever seen him give Logan. She hopes there isn’t anything shady going on between those three.
Eventually, Aubry and Leo stake back over to Finn, Logan and Sydeny who are all still chatting on the ice and sipping their hot chocolate that Celeste brought.
“Can I have a sip?” Logan holds up his cup over his shoulder to Leo’s lips, because Leo is behind him, and holds it as he takes a sip. “Mm, so yummy. I’ve never really had this before. Hot chocolate?” Leo doesn’t really drink warm drinks at all, even the coffee is normally cooled down to where it isn’t hot, sometimes iced.
“You should have Finn make you some, he is really good at it.” Finn kisses Logan's forehead and smiles.
“It’s like the one thing I learned how to make properly. Alex taught me! He is coming to the party later tonight if you want to meet him.”
“I’d love to meet him! Now, I’ve met Aubry. I’m guessing you are Sydney? Logan talks about you guys sometimes but I don’t know a lot.” Leo smiles at her and reaches his hand out to shake hers.
“You have a southern accent…” Aubry and her share a look.
Logan is definitely not keeping him from them.

Things I Would Change if I Could Rewrite Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker
Last Jedi
Everything is the same until Ben kills Snoke
Rey begs Ben to come with her but he refuses, not because he doesn’t want to, but because he feels he can’t leave the control of the First Order in the hands of Hux.
He helps Rey escape and tells her that he will do his best to give the Resistance time to escape.
Ben confronts Luke just like in the movie, but instead of fighting him out of anger, Ben and Luke pretend to fight to buy the Resistance more time.
While they are fighting, Luke apologizes to Ben for not being a better master and for giving in to his fears. He tells Ben that he doesn’t deserve to be Rey’s master and that she deserves to have someone who will train her not to fear the darkness inside her.
Finally, Luke urges Ben to finish his father’s and Ben’s grandfather’s mission to bring balance back to the Force, not by eliminating the Darkness but accepting that it is part of life.
Luke tells Ben to pretend to kill him since his Force Ghost is fading. Luke’s body fades into the Force.
Ben and Hux find the Resistance abandoned. Ben/Kylo pretends to be angry.
Hux is clearly suspicious of Ben/Kylo but without proof, he is unable to confront him.
Rey rescues the Resistance. She tells Leia that Ben saved her and the rest of the Resistance
“You saved us, Rey.”
“It wasn’t me.”
The movie ends with Snoke’s funeral. As Ben and the First Order watch his body burn, Ben takes a sigh of relief. The dark voices that have been haunting and terrorizing him since he was a child are finally gone. He slowly starts to walk back to his quarters when Palapatine’s laugh stops him in his tracks.
Rise of Skywalker
The movie opens with Finn’s and Poe’s mission on the Falcon, but it is just a supply run and there is no mention of a spy. The merchant runs up the price last minute with the reason, “Who else is going to sell to you?” Finn reluctantly pays up. (This is supposed to serve as a reminder that the Resistance is running out of allies.)
Rey is introduced mediating, but instead of trying to reach the other Jedi she is trying to reach Ben. Their force bond has been silent since Ben helped her escape.
Rey is furious that Ben is shutting her out.
Rey and Leia talk. Leia tells Rey not to worry about Ben, that he has always been able to take care of himself, even as a child. Leia tells he Ben has always been independent and that he shuts people out to protect himself.
Still angry, Rey goes to train. She angrily swings her lightsaber but freezes when she hears a man laughing through the Force, urging her to give into her rage. (It’s Palpatine, but she doesn’t know this). She accidentally drops a tree on BB-8  (Because that whole Poe/Rey interaction was gold!)
Finn and Poe still argue with Rey about how she is doing nothing but train instead of being out there fighting. She tells them that she doesn’t want to make it difficult for Ben. She didn’t want to have to put into a position again to chose between her and his mission. They make bitter comments about how if Ben is good now, why is he still attacking them. They imply that Ben is using Rey. Rey gets mad at them and walks away without answering.
Ben/Kylo and Hux are shown walking to greet a landing ship on the new First Order starbase. Hux questions Ben/Kylo about this sudden new ally. Ben/Kylo tells him that he doesn’t know more than him.
The doors of the ship open and Sith soldiers walk out followed by a cloaked figure.
The cloaked figure walks up to Ben/Kylo and Hux.
“It is an honor to meet the grandson of Darth Vader. I see you inherit his strength, let us hope you didn’t inherit his weakness too”
The cloaked figure pulls back his hood to reveal a young clone of Palpatine. (Played by Matt Smith)
Rey is asleep and is awakened by a bond forming between her and Ben. Rey is excited to see Ben again but is also furious that he has been shutting her out. He apologizes and tells her that he had to. Hux had been raising questions about him and he needed to focus on playing the part of Supreme Leader.
“So, I distract you?”
“Very much so,” Ben slips. Rey smiles.
Ben tells Rey that she needs to focus. He tells her that Palpatine cloned himself and he just told him and Hux the location of the Resistance’s hidden base. Ben urges Rey to get the Resistance out as soon as possible since he can’t stop Hux’s attack.
Rey again begs Ben to join them, but he again refuses. He tells her that he can’t leave until Palpatine reveals his whole plan to him. They will need this information if they want to have a chance at defeating him.
Rey fully wakes up and alerts the whole base.
With the heads start, the Resistance escapes. Poe is badly injured while escaping. Rey heals him and then passes out. (Baby Yoda style).
While she is out, she is once again bonded with Ben. She sees Hux confront him about his suspicions. He tells Ben he knows he had been helping the Resistance and that he has security footage of him killing Snoke. Ben fights the Knights of Ren and almost wins until the Young Palpatine shows up and restrains him.
Palpatine uses lightning to torture Ben. Ben pleads with Rey through their bond not to try to rescue him. Rey’s bond is broken when Palpatine looks right at her as if he knows that she is there.
Rey wakes up completely panicked. She tells Finn, Poe, and Leia that Ben has been discovered and that he needs her help.
They stop her from running off to find him. They convince her that she needs to rest some more and that they will work out a plan to rescue Ben when they have the resources to do so. Leia is broken up that her son is in danger, but her practical side wins out. (Rey pretends to listen to them and then sneaks out later that night to steal a ship).
Finn, Poe, Chewie, and BB-8 are already in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. They knew she was going to try to sneak away and reluctantly agree to help her rescue Ben because she is going to do it anyway.
Poe tells them that he knows someone that could help them break into the First Order ship.
They go to Kijimi and run into Lando while trying to escape some Stormtroopers.
Chewis is captured. Rey gets upset again and uncontrollably shoots lightning while trying to rescue him. Chewie gets hit accidentally and Rey freaks out. An injured Chewie is brought aboard the First Order ship.
Lando helps make a distraction so that Poe can lead the rest of them to Zorii Bliss and Babu Frik’s workshop.
The meet D-O in Babu Frik’s workshop. BB-8 still heals him (Because I love that droid!)
Zorri gives Poe the coin to get them onto the ship. Poe is not a spice runner. Instead, he used to steal from the rich and get to the poor. Robin Hood-style. Zorri was another thief who always made fun of his need to do good.
Once onboard the First Order ship, they split up. Finn and Poe go search for Chewie while Rey tries to find Ben.
Finn and Poe find Chewie and cause a bit of trouble getting him out. This serves as enough of a distraction for Ben to free himself. (Throwback to Rey using the Force to get the Stormtroopers to free her in the first movie).
Finn and Poe rescue Chewie with help from D-O. Turns out he is a hacking droid.
Rey’s Force sense leads her the wrong direction. She is led straight to Palpatine. He shuts the door behind her.
Palpatine reveals her past to her. He tells her that she is the daughter of one of the original Palpatine's clones that developed free will and escaped from the other clones. (The clones called each other brothers and the original Palapatine father).  Palpatine hides the fact that he had himself cloned by telling everything his wife died in childbirth. The Palpatine family was very rich and powerful on Naboo until the fall of the Empire with the death of Death Vader. Rey’s family had to go into hiding with no money or contacts because people wanted revenge on the Palpatine family.
Palpatine shows Rey a vision of her parents. Her father looks exactly like the Young Palpatine before her. Their house is attacked by a group of ex-Rebels soldiers (The combination of no longer have a war to fight, having no family to return to, and the need for revenge for everything they lost) They believe Rey’s father is a son of Palpatine.
Rey’s father tries to hold them off while Rey’s mother escapes with her. Her father is killed.
Rey’s mother hides her on a smuggler’s ship before leading the soldiers off in the opposite direction. She is then killed.
The smuggler’s ship takes off. A man and women find Rey hidden in their cargo. They think she is an orphan or some beggar's child who threw her away. They raise her as an employee before selling her to Ukar Plutt. Rey believes they were her parents because of the memory of her parents dying was too traumatic for her young mind to remember.
Palpatine tells her that Ben knew about her past this whole time and that he purposely withheld it from her because he knew it would turn her dark.
This is where she has the vision of the dark version of herself. She sees herself become a Sith apprentice. Palpatine tells her that she cannot escape her own fate. That she will join him and that she will rule with him as his heir.
Finn, Poe, Chewie, BB-8, and B-O get cornered by Stormtroopers. Ben rescues them. using the Force.
“Where’s Rey?”
“We thought she was with you!”
Chewie roars angrily in Ben’s face
“I know, Chewie.” Ben’s voice breaks.
Chewie hugs him.
“This a lovely family reunion, but in case you forgot we are still on a First Order ship about to be captured again,” mocks Poe.
Ben reaches out to Rey to tells her that he is safe but senses her being overcome by the darkness. Rey confronts Ben about knowing about her past. He admits that he knew and tells her that he was just trying to protect her. Rey is still furious and confused. She tells him that she can’t resist the darkness. She wants revenge for what happened to her parents and for her lost childhood.
Ben tries to talk her down, but she completely freaked out.
“Rey, if there is anyone who understands the draw to the dark side It’s me. Please tell me where you are and I will help you.”
“No one can help me.” She cuts off their bond. “I can’t fight what is inside of me.
Rey steals a First Order ship and runs away to Ahch-To
Heartbroken Ben tells the others that Rey left without them and then helps them escape.
D-O does more hacking to help them escape
Finn: “I like this droid!”
Ben and the gang flee to the Falcon. Poe and Ben fight over piloting the Falcon. Chewie is too injury to fly.
“Excuse me? What do you think you are doing?”
“This is my father’s ship!”
“Didn’t you kill him?”
“Poe!” Finn looked nervously at Ben. “Not the time.”
Poe and Ben bicker back and forth while they are chased by the First Order.
Finally Ben does a move to lose their chasers. Poe reluctantly mumbles, “Not bad.”
Finn and Poe tell Leia that Ben is back while he waits for her on the Falcon.
Leia finds Ben still sitting at the front of the Falcon looking blankly at the controls. He is remembering all of the times his father taught him how to fly and how much he misses him.
Ben and Leia are reunited. There are tears.
“I never gave up hope that you would return to me.”
Leia cries and hugs me. Ben shyly returns the hug.
Ben apologizes to Leia about Han. He tells her that he wishes he could take it all back. Leia apologizes for not doing more to protect him from Snoke and for sending him away in the first place.
Ben tells Leia about Rey. He tells her that he regrets not being fully honest with her and for pushing her away. Leia reassures him.
“Now, it’s all my fault. She’s out there all alone, and I can’t help her.”
“Sometimes, we make bad decisions when trying to protect the people we love. We act of fear instead of trust. All you can do is believe that they will have the strength to see past their own fears and return home.”
Leia formally introduces Ben to the Resistance command. Ben tells them about Palpatine's giant fleet of the planet destroyers. He also tells Finn about the other Stormtrooper who defected and where to find them.
Finn and Rose leave to convince the ex-stormtroopers to join their cause.
Lando and Chewie still go to find more help
Leia, Ben, and Poe discuss strategy. There is interesting back and forth because Leia treats Poe more like a son then she does Ben. Ben is jealous of their close relationship.
“Your father was the jealous type too. Don’t worry, you will always be my son.”
On Ahch-to, Rey destroys her ship and is about to throw the lightsaber into the fire when Luke appears.
Rey tells Luke that he was right about her. She can’t resist the pull to the dark side, so she must isolate herself from the people she loves so she doesn’t hurt them.
“Once again, amazing, everything you just said is completely wrong.”
Luke tells her that he was wrong about her. That she has more strength than she knows.
He tells her that she shouldn’t fear her darker self because that is what he forced Ben to do and what ultimately pushed him to Snoke. Luke tells Rey to trust her and Ben’s bond because together they form a dyad more powerful than any bond in the last century. Together they can overcome any obstacle.
Luke tells her she should want revenge for her parents’ death. But she should use that anger drive her to do better.
“Those Rebel soldiers acted out of fear. You need to do better than them and take out the forces that are really responsible.”
Luke shows her where to find Leia’s lightsaber and tells her that Ben is going to face Palpatine with or without her.
“He would probably do better with an actual weapon.”
Everything is pretty much the same as the movie. (Rey goes to face Palpatine alone. Ben still show up later and runs to rescue Rey :))
Ben gets Poe to drop him off on the planet.
“In case you forgot, you don’t have a lightsaber anymore. What are you going to do? Blast Palpatine?”
“I’ll work something out. Rey needs me.”
Leia sacrifices herself to use the Force to protect the Resistance fleet from Palpatine's lightning
There is an epic battle lightsaber battle between Ben, Rey and Young Palpatine. Palpatine uses Kylo Ren’s saber. Ben uses Leia’s saber while Rey uses Luke’s.
When Leia’s body fades into the Force, Rey is injury but still fights.
Rey and Ben defeat Palpatine together (We are all of the Jedi)
Ben heals Rey and Rey kisses him
They go back to the Resistance basis
Rey hugs Finn and Poe.
The movie ends with Rey and Ben going to Naboo to bury Luke’s and Leia’s lightsaber in their mother’s grave. They talk about starting a new Jedi Order that embraces a true balance between the dark and the light. They reveal their new lightsabers. Rey’s is yellow and Ben’s is purple.
The End

Finnpoe- “the wave, to the ocean”
Poe dies after a lifetime spent together. Finn deals with the aftermath of losing his partner and other half. It's the hardest thing he's ever done.
WORDS: 3030
XXX
Poe dies on a quiet summer evening. Their bedroom, packed with children and grandchildren, is silent aside from muffled cries. Outside their home, crickets chirp, overlapping and loud, enough so that Finn is thinking of their noisy chorus when his husband takes his last breath.
Everything and nothing changes- the Damerons have been mourning preemptively, and Poe’s death is not sudden. There is only sorrow in missing him, rather than the opportunities lost with the end of a life. They cry and comfort each other, as they have done for so many days prior, and they do not need to conjure up funeral plans. Poe wrote his first will when he was 19, and since then, he merely edited and revised his wishes as his life evolved.
Finn experiences his first second, night, week, as a widower. He and Poe spent a lifetime together, and then there is nothing.
Nothing is not nothing. It’s the unification of his entire family, of old friends and beings from all corners of the galaxy. Decades worth of meeting, knowing, loving people. That is the relief to the pain, that he may be surrounded by all the lives he and Poe have touched. His children don’t leave his side.
Distinctly, Finn is aware that he needs them as much as they need him, but this is a role he has always struggled with. He hesitates to ask for help from the people who have just lost their father. They love and know him, but they cannot break through his veneer.
He can hide his grief with a gentle smile or a hug. It’s easier because he means it, but these moments are a droplet of joy amongst an ocean of sorrow. Still, on the surface, all appears well.
When Finn learned the ways of the Force, he became well attuned to the feelings of others. He knows the warm light of happiness, the fire of anger, and the stormy turmoil of pain. He knows that, try as one might, these feelings cannot be hidden or erased. He’s felt the pain of widows and the bereaved. It’s a beacon in the Force, overwhelming and blinding.
Rey can hardly look at him. He can feel her pain, he knows the hurt of his children. Finn knows that Rey must be drowning in his sorrow. He is lost, and he knows that Rey can feel this turmoil just as clearly as he lives it.
Yet she is the last to depart even after duty calls his children away. Weeks fade to months, and although there is no ground beneath Finn’s feet, something like normalcy returns.
It is not quite true that Rey leaves Finn. He examines what’s left of his life before him, and then he cannot stay on Yavin, in a place that still smells like Poe, every inch of their house defined by their life together.
Finn finds a quiet corner of the galaxy, and he goes. Rey discovers a brief holo explaining why he’s left, and that is all. There’s a few frequencies she and his family can call on, but no coordinates with which to find him. It’s him and BB-8, and Finn is really, truly alone, for the first time since he was 21.
In his new bed, it’s less strange to wake up alone. The mattress is smaller, and the sun shines in at a different angle than it did in his room on Yavin IV. Sometimes, there is still a phantom warmth next to him, and in the moments before Finn fully wakes, he can feel Poe there beside him. He’s not sure, but Finn thinks that he talks to Poe then. It makes his heart ache when he realizes, like a black hole in his chest weighing him down and sucking him into unfathomable depths of despair, because reality quickly sets in and he is talking to thin air.
He misses Poe. He wishes, more than anything, to hear his laugh, to have a conversation with him about the weather or something trivial, to hug his husband or hold his hand. He misses the warmth of his embrace, and he remembers the comfort that came along with it, but Finn remains cold and alone. Unreachable by design, by space and depression and grief.
Finn will heal by himself, first. He will experience every part of this pain, and that’s how it will be. The tide must swell before it can recede.
In the beginning, beautiful things do not inspire him to live. The sun shines after rain, and Finn thinks to himself that he would be at peace, if he rejoined the Force at this moment. He wouldn’t be without Poe any longer. That would be good. That would be easier.
So he waits to do just that. It has been so long since he’s lived without his family that Finn doesn’t expect to last long without them. He settles down on a small farm by the seaside, and a boy from a local village brings him food every week. He spends most of his days reading or watching the waves crash on the rocks below him.
Finn waits to die and he waits for the grief to lessen in the meantime. It follows him wherever he goes; it is his only companion, aside from a lonely droid and a child who doesn’t ever stay for longer than five minutes.
He misses his children. They are insistent on finding him, on visiting at the very least, but Finn declines every offer. He doesn’t want them to see another parent waste away, or for them to be pulled under by his grief. It is better, for everyone, that he is alone.
Finn weeps more during that period than he ever has before in his life. It hits him suddenly, making his knees weak and crumbling his resolve. He falls to the ground, hands covering his mouth to muffle the sobs. No one is there to hear him, but the sobs fight their way out anyway, and they always stop too soon, before any true release of sorrow can occur.
The beach, which is mostly jagged pebbles scattered below the cliff where he lives, is where Finn goes when he ventures to leave the house. He wonders, more than anything, if Poe would have liked it here, if they could have settled down here like they did on Yavin IV. It rains a lot here, too, but the air is dry instead of humid, and the air tastes perpetually of salt. Crickets still sing him to sleep every night, but they are joined by the rhythm of waves against the shore.
Finn likes this, though he thinks his husband would have never quite adjusted to this change. It’s peaceful here, but noisier than Yavin. It’s colder too, which Poe had never enjoyed.
Had never. Poe, in the past tense. This is easier to accept than the reality it belies. Now, he is away from the empty house and the grave. The only evidence of his loss is grief and memory, so perhaps this is why Finn thinks that maybe, just maybe, he could fly back home and find Poe waiting for him.
It is three months before Finn realizes: he is waiting for Poe. If he died, he would be reunited with him; if the grief disappeared, it could only mean a reunion. He is waiting for what may never come.
And he lives. And the grief never goes away.
-
Something like spring happens, half a cycle into his stay. The boy tells him in broken Basic that this means more rain, which Finn is surprised to discover is possible after endless days of downpour. After this comes planting season, which Finn surmised after living on a farming moon, with his husband who was raised on a farm. The boy laughs at him when he says this. Finn smiles for the first time in months.
It rains, and Finn lies in bed, wrapped in the blankets he brought from home, listening to the torrent against the roof. The cadence is different; the roof here is simple and stone, but if he closes his eyes, he can nearly imagine that he’s on Yavin, that Poe is beside him and they’re enjoying a lazy afternoon together.
This type of thinking hurts more than it heals. It happens on the nights that Finn cries himself to sleep. He longs for the past and impossible comforts, and the gaping hole in his chest widens.
His heart is dead weight in his chest, and it is cruel that he lives. There is nothing to live for. His family is strong enough to mourn him and live, and he has already shaped the galaxy into a place for them to thrive. There is nothing left for him in a universe devoid of his soulmate.
The boy and his family are harvesting the first of their crops. In addition to the plain bread and simple staples delivered to him at the beginning of the week, Finn receives a bag of purple berries and some other orange vegetables. He thanks the boy, who cites his mother, so Finn passes his thanks to the whole family. The next week, even more are entrusted to him, and Finn gains the impression that they have a surplus. When he grumbles that he’s only one person, that he can’t possibly eat this much, and that his droid can’t be expected to help him eat, the boy laughs at him again. Finn realizes he hasn’t talked to him beyond a brief thanks every week and a passing conversation once or twice. BB-8 is often powered down, too. It’s been a long time since Finn has heard laughter, or held a conversation.
He’s brought some sort of sweet bread the next week, made from the purple berries. Finn’s never had it before. It’s odd, to have lived so long and to still learn new things, especially in a place so lonely and from a being so young.
He asks the boy his name before he goes. It’s Becke, and he’s eight (this information seems attached to his introduction). Finn hadn’t known before. He hadn’t asked when he first arrived, only inquired to Becke’s mother if she knew anyone who could bring him groceries. She had nodded, and gestured to the blonde boy reluctantly holding her hand. He spoke the best Basic out of their family, and he needed to get out of her house more often.
Becke smiles at him, most of his teeth missing. It reminds him of a young girl, and her children that kept her parents and grandparents perpetually exhausted. Finn understands why his mother appointed him to this task.
Becke leaves that week, and this time, he hollers his goodbye over his shoulder as he retreats.
Finn smiles again.
-
Summer and fall mean that Finn is stuffed with fresh harvestables. Becke tells him about his afternoons helping on the farm, in short, slowly extracted sentences. Sometimes Becke comes in chattering (or complaining) about the work, and sometimes, Finn dares to ask a few questions. A rounded conversation takes a month and a half, but they both readily accept this pace. It’s enough for the attention span of an eight-year-old talking to an old man and the old man in question.
Becke talks about his family, and what he’s learning in school. It’s menial, yet Finn cares in the way that kind people do when a child talks. There are concerns and viewpoints only applicable through the eyes of a child, and it’s simpler than loneliness and pain, and one day, Becke spends an hour showing Finn his attempts at juggling with the fruit he brought that morning. He’s not exceptionally good at it, but Finn encourages him, and it is the lightest he’s felt since before Poe died.
The next week, Becke invites him to dinner with his family. Finn declines, but the week after that, another invitation is extended. He accepts.
Their communication is limited, but gestures and fragments of sentences are enough. They get by; Finn learns that Becke’s father and two older brothers have the same sense of humor as the boy- there is laughter to be found in even the most miserable of circumstances. Finn finds it hard to complain around them, especially when Becke’s mother, Ola, keeps loading his plate up with food, even once Finn starts protesting that it’s too much for him. The other men laugh, and Becke’s father tells him that no one can resist his wife’s will. So, he will be fed, and fed well.
By fall, Finn regularly makes the trek to their house for dinners. He helps Becke with his homework. Ola herself visits Finn, and the next afternoon, Becke arrives with cleaning supplies. Suddenly, Finn is not just looked after, he is cared for. He laughs and he talks, and he does not have to think of the grief and the pain.
He lives.
-
Sunset on the ocean is one of the most beautiful things Finn has ever seen. Orange light weaves through the tall grass on the edge of the cliffs and turns the water below golden. The skies fill with purple and pink clouds, mingling to create colors Finn has never dreamed of before.
He hopes, every evening, that he lives to see the next day’s magnificent sunset.
-
Finn knows that he could stay here forever, that he may live to see Becke grow into a man, that Ola will cook and clean and feed him until the end of his days. He is happy there, after thinking that he could never be happy again. There are simple and wonderful things, and Finn enjoys them all.
But as Becke gets older, and as the years pass, Finn thinks of his own grandchildren, how they must be growing and learning. They are without their Abuelo and their grandpa, and he does not get to see or know them.
If Finn returns, he will be reunited with those he loves most in the universe.
He will also have to face an old life, one that should have Poe in it but does no longer.
The choice is neither quick nor sudden. Becke is twelve; Finn is happy worlds away from Yavin.
But there is more. He misses his children’s laughter and the light of his grandkids. He misses his home and the richness of life in the jungle. He misses Rey and her eternal optimism, her smile.
He is not complete without these things. Infrequent, broken calls are not enough.
If he was meant to outlive Poe, then Finn must face that. He will do it, at last, with his family at his side.
Becke and Finn both weep when he leaves. He’d planned to do so on a sunny afternoon, but became delayed by last-minute repairs, so he hugs Becke and his family goodbye as the sun wavers just above the horizon. Its dying sunbeams illuminate Becke’s face, then the boy scrubs the tears off his cheeks. Finn manages one last goodbye before boarding his ship, and he watches the small family wave goodbye before they go, flying low towards the sunset before taking off to the stars.
He contacts his eldest first and tells her that he’s coming home. She breaks down in tears over the call, and promises to meet him on Yavin. They’ve missed him, she says, and they’re glad he’s coming home.
His children- three out of four who could make it in time- are waiting outside his house. They embrace him, holding him tight, and Finn does his best not to cry too excessively. He’s welcomed home, which matters most, and they’re glad to see him.
It hurts, to be back in the hastily dusted house. There are holos of Poe on the walls. His youngest son has Poe’s mannerisms; his youngest daughter has his same cheeky smile.
But he loves them, and it’s worth the pain.
He and the brunt of the grief are together again; he’s only a few klicks away from where Poe is buried. His children cling to his hands, and ask him how he is. BB-8 explains all of what he can of their absence, and when it’s Finn’s turn, all he can say is that he couldn’t stay.
Their acceptance of this fact hinges on Finn’s promises that eventually, he was happy. He was cared for and not truly alone. He came back to them.
His eldest corners Finn and tells him, with her jaw firmly set, that they missed him and in some ways, they lost both of their fathers at once. Finn bows his head and apologizes, but he could not stay. Without Poe, he had to learn to live again. He had to want to live again, and he couldn’t do that while so haunted by loss.
She doesn’t understand, not fully, but she accepts this and tells him she’s glad he’s home. He is too, and the joy of being back with his family overpowers the grief.
It’s storming, hours later, when they hear Rey arrive. She barges through the door, drenched, and wraps her arms around Finn, tears shining in her eyes. She missed him and she loves him, she murmurs, then she pulls back and offers him a watery smile
Finn had forgotten how much her presence lights up a room. Yavin hums with an energy that he has not felt in many years, and it rushes over Finn in excited waves. He can sense all the life nearby, from the frogs in the trees and the vines in the jungle, all the way to the tree standing over his husband’s and his parents’ graves.
There is beauty and life and death and pain. Finn can feel it all, and he knows it well. It’s pervasive throughout his life and his family and his home.
It’s a part of him and part of everything, and Finn understands. It will ache inside his chest then destroy him, and finally build him back up. Finn understands that he lives and will die loving and missing Poe.
But this is not the end.
“Picture a wave. In the ocean. You can see it, measure it, its height, the way the sunlight refracts when it passes through. And it's there. And you can see it, you know what it is. It's a wave. And then it crashes in the shore and it's gone. But the water is still there. The wave was just a different way for the water to be, for a little while. You know it's one conception of death for Buddhists: the wave returns to the ocean, where it came from and where it's supposed to be.” -The Good Place

Hello i wrote an ending that we actually deserved with bellamy closure. This is my first time writing fic for this ship so hope i did them justice. Enjoy 🤍
-
When Clarke arrives at Sanctum, she’s greeted only by Picasso. She rummages through the palace, the farmhouse, looking for any signs of human life. She knows she won’t find any— there was never any person who even came close to committing as many atrocities as Clarke has. And to those who come close, well, they’re already dead.
She finally gives up and goes back to the throne room. She slumps against the wall, sinking to the floor with Picasso at her side. Her eyes follow the ground to the spot she was last time she was on the planet, and a pang aches in her chest.
The blood is gone. She’s assuming they took him to Nakara. She heard that the planet was a graveyard— Gabriel had mentioned it in passing.
“Picasso, stay. I’ll be right back,” she scratches the dog behind the ears and puts on the helmet. She takes a deep breath and punches in the code for the ice planet.
*****
Nothing much has changed since she last left Nakara. The cold air bites at her cheeks immediately when she takes her helmet off, but it doesn’t bother her. She won’t be long.
“Bellamy, if you’re somewhere on this planet, if you can hear me…” she starts, feeling a lump unwillingly form at the back of her throat. “You were right about transcendence… You just wanted peace— I’m glad everyone got that, and I hope you did, too.”
She bites the inside of her cheek, letting her tears fall into the fresh snow. “I killed you. I killed you and you didn’t deserve that. You saved me from death— brought me back to life— and that’s how I repaid you. I understand why I failed the test. But you— you would have passed it. I know you would have.”
“I don’t deserve forgiveness. I know that. Even if you can somehow hear me, I want you to know I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m just here to say I’m sorry. I’m paying the price for it now, aren’t I? The only human left in the universe,” she laughs bitterly. “There’s part of me that wishes we ran away when you asked me to. Maybe we would have been incinerated by Praimfaiya, but I know we would’ve been happy. We could’ve been so happy, Bell,” her lip quivers as she shakes her head. “But I don’t regret anything. I wouldn’t have met Madi.”
“You know, I don’t think I ever told you just how much I loved you. Finn knew, Lexa knew… But you? God, Bell. I loved you so much. And you never knew. That’s one of my biggest mistakes— never letting you just how much I loved you.”
She’s unsure if she’s shivering due to the cold, or if it’s just her body responding to the raw emotions pulsing through her blood. She kneels to the ground, letting her fingers brush the snow.
The last of her tears fall as she takes one deep breath.
“In peace, may you leave this shore. In love, may you find the next. Safe passage on your travels, until our final journey to the ground. May we meet again.”
Picasso’s gold fur disappears down the ravine, out of sight from Clarke. Earth is green and lush again, free to breathe without the threat of human corruption.
“Picasso, come!”
She follows the brief flashes of gold through the forest until it clears, revealing the shoreline of a vast lake. The air is clean, water is clear, and she can even hear the singing of birds in the distance.
Then, she sees them.
Her friends.
Her heart jumps.
The first to hug her is Raven, then Murphy. One by one, she embraces them, tears threatening her eyes.
“But you transcended,” Clarke says in disbelief, tears threatening her eyes.
“They told us transcendence is a choice, Clarke,” Raven says, holding her hands firmly. “And we chose to live.”
She gives her a shaky smile before they finally envelop her in a group hug, and, god, she’s so relieved that she isn’t alone. Not again.
But even though she feels the love from her friends, it’s bittersweet. There’s no hope for humanity. Life is supposed to be more than survival, but she can’t help but wonder if that’s true when every person she’s ever loved is no longer in her reach. For the first time, she’s not sure what to live for. Her friends share different bonds to each other than she ever had. Different types of connections. Familial, romantic. There’s a piece of her missing without Bellamy, without Madi. All that was left of her family— gone, because of her.
“I know you never felt like we were family, but we are now,” Murphy whispers low in her ear. She doesn’t know how he knows exactly what she’s thinking, but she accepts it. “We’re all we’ve got to live for now, Clarke. Humanity be damned.”
She lets out a weak laugh, ignoring the ache in her chest. “Thanks, cockroach.”
Her friends release her from the hug, a mess of limbs untangling in her periphery, except for Octavia, who lingers by her side.
“Madi’s not in pain anymore. She wanted to stay… She likes the peace,” Octavia reassures her, rubbing her back lovingly. “She was the key to transcendence and she made her choice. She wanted me to tell you that she loves you, Clarke.”
Clarke nods, devastated, but she understands. “Thank you— for everything, Octavia.”
“You know, I didn’t see Bellamy there,” Octavia says, eyes dropping to the ground. “He was right about everything. It doesn’t seem fair that he never got to transcend,” her tone is wistful, somber. “I just hope that he’s proud of me, wherever he is.”
Clarke hugs her again, this time longer, feeling the weight of her friend’s words fall on her shoulders. She makes a mental note to take Octavia to Nakara to say a proper goodbye just like she had. Then, they can make a proper memorial.
She can accept Madi’s choice, knowing that she’s happy, but she never gave Bellamy the opportunity, and that’s something she has to live with forever. She knows one day she’s going to have to stop the guilt from consuming her, but she has the rest of her life to learn.
When they part, she sees a speck in the distance coming towards them from the horizon. Her first instinct is to draw her gun, but she doesn’t have one.
Instead, she squints her eyes and looks on, until finally the object comes into focus, and suddenly, her knees buckle, voice caught in her throat.
Disbelief.
“Bellamy?”
Her legs carry her forward until finally she sees him— all of him, clean shaven, curls wild atop his head, pretty freckles like stars on his skin, brown eyes warm and beautiful. This doesn’t feel real.
“Clarke.”
In his arms, she heaves a sob, trying to catch her breath like her lungs are fighting for air. He tightens his hold on her, letting her cry into the crook of his neck. She has so many questions, but for now, she decides at this moment that she wants to stay in his embrace forever, even if he isn’t real.
“You’re not real, are you?” she sobs, burying her face into his skin.
For what feels like forever, he just holds her, gently rocking her against his body. He breaks apart eventually, wiping her tears with the pads of his thumbs. “Look at me, Clarke.”
The warmth in his eyes confuses her. She wants to confess everything— everything she said on Nakara, every damn thing she radio’d him for six years. Like time is running out.
“It’s okay, I forgive you,” he whispers.
“I don’t understand, Bellamy,” she shakes her head, “I don’t deserve forgiveness, especially from you.”
“I have every right in the world to be mad at you,” he admits. “But I choose forgiveness. I choose you, Clarke.”
This time, she musters a smile of relief, tears streaming down her cheeks as she throws her arms around his neck.
She inhales his smell, and her heart aches. She can’t remember the last time she felt this happy, and she's desperate to cling onto this feeling for as long as she can. “Please let this be real. I love you, Bell, I can’t let you go again.”
His lips meet her temple, and his voice, deep and full of trust, promises her one thing.
“I’m not going anywhere. Can’t get rid of me that easily, not this time.”
She can feel the quirk of his smile press against her skin, and for the first time in a long time, she starts to feel like everything’s going to be alright.
Behind them, Octavia’s voice breaks up their reunion, and Clarke’s heart soars because that means Bellamy really is real.
Finally, there is peace.
“Welcome home.”

Dangerous Liaisons
A/N: Hey guys, we're baaaaaaaaaack with another chapter. Yaaay! I hope you like it! Let me know what you think.
Chapter 3 - A meeting with the Devil's Mother
She knocked on the door feeling her undead heart thudding violently against her chest, her fear palpable. Soon enough, the door opened and Finn greeted her, his impassive face shifting to one of nearly happy that she was alone. “You’re alone. Wise choice.” She side glanced at him, resisting the urge to not roll her eyes. Yeah, like I had a choice… Gulping down her fear, she fully entered the room, her gaze falling between Esther’s hands.
“It’s only sage. I’ve spelled It so we can talk freely without fear of being overheard. That would be all, Finn. Thank you.” Dismissing her old son, the two soon were alone, and Katherine tried hard not to bolt after she heard the door closing.  “You must have a million questions for me, Elena. Please.” She gestured towards the sofa and the vampiress gulped, slowly making her way before seating and cursing the Salvatores for making her basically scream that she wanted to die.
“How are you alive? I mean… Are you a ghost or…?
“Not exactly. When I died the witch Ayana preserved my body with a spell. She was a close friend of mine and an ancestor of your friend Bonnie.” Katherine widened her eyes, surprised at the revelation, but knew her doppelganger would never let any information pass. She was as cunning as she could be and still pretend to be innocent. The nerve.
“So that’s why only Bonnie and her mother could open the casket?”
“They complete the Bennet bloodline. I drew power from them and their ancestors with me on the other side.”
“You’ve been on the other side for a thousand years?”
“Nature’s way of punishing me for turning my family into vampires. But there is a way for me to undo the evil I created.” Katherine was caught off guard, her surprise showing openly on her features.
“You’re gonna help us kill Klaus, aren’t you?”
“One thing at a time, Elena. For now, I simply need your help.” Her nervousness was only growing with each second more she passed beside the Original Bitch who was speaking so freely and seemed confident that Elena would help her. No surprises there, they all wanted to kill Klaus. “I understand Rebekah shared the story of my family. How I upset the balance of nature by turning my children into vampires.” Esther said while lit up a few candles on top of a paper that had a few things scribbled down, but Katherine couldn’t decipher what it was from where she was standing.
“She said that you did that to protect them from the werewolves.” By now, Katherine was more than happy to have force shared information with her shadow self, otherwise, she would have stuttered so much, the witch would have seen something different on her.
“It’s true. But in no time at all, they began to feed on human blood.” She poured water into a cup while saying that with such disgust that made Katherine ball her hands into fists to not say anything. They became what they were because of her! How could she not see that they were only children and she was the responsible one for that mess? “They ravaged the town with no remorse. Eventually, Niklaus turned against me.”
Getting closer, the vampire doppelganger still didn’t see how Elena would help her. “How are you gonna kill him? He’s immortal.” She nearly scoffed, but the Mikaelson’s matriarch was so serious and gazing at her intently like she was trying to read her soul.
“It will take time, magic, and your assistance.”
“What do I have to do then?”
“My children believe I’m holding this ball to celebrate our reunion. But in truth, I’ve gathered them together to perform a ritual. The first step requires the blood from the doppelganger.” Katherine widened her eyes and stiffened, feeling overwhelmed. She was going to be discovered and Esther would kill her in a heartbeat. “Only a drop. Its essence will be in the champagne toast later on this evening. Will you do it? Or shall I?” She asked revealing a silver dagger and holding it to her in a twisted way of offering her the chance to help her.
To not raise suspicions, she took out her glove and hold the dagger, pinching her finger before turning it towards the cup full of something she didn’t want to think about. Giving the dagger back to Esther, Katherine quickly put her glove back on, feeling nervous. Would it work? “Elijah is more suspicious than the others, so he may need more persuasion. But they must all drink at the toast in order to be linked as one.”
“What do you mean linked as one?” She was regretting her decision to come at all and was fearing for Elijah. This wench of a woman wanted to kill all her children? With no regrets?
“You said yourself Klaus can’t be killed. But tonight’s spell links all my children together so that if one goes, they all go.”
“What?” Her voice wavered and she suddenly felt the urge to vomit. She couldn’t believe that Esther would do such a cruel thing. And they used to say she and Klaus were the monsters...
“I love my family, Elena... But they are an abomination. I betrayed nature when I created them. It’s my duty to kill them.” Katherine didn’t even have to pretend to be shocked, since she was too struck to pretend another reaction and simply left in a daze.
“So how was my mother?” Elijah’s voice was enough to make her feel her dead heartbeat skyrocket and she gulped, taking a deep breath to calm herself in his presence, the urge to simply spill everything eating her.
“Intense.”
“And for what reason, she needed to speak with you in private?” His reaction seemed nearly funny like he was loving her reaction, from what; she couldn’t tell. Getting two flutes of champagne, the vampire doppelganger forced a smile on her face, glancing sideways involuntarily, meeting Esther’s eyes who showed a coldness even when she smiled at her and Katherine felt she couldn’t breathe. “Elena. Should I be concerned about my mother's intentions?” She snapped her head towards Elijah, glancing at him like he was the most beautiful person she had ever seen. Approaching him, she smiled, getting his flute and turning around to run, exchanging the flutes, and whining at the force he used to stop her. Frowning, she pouted and gave him her flute, her eyes hardened.
“No, Lijah... You don’t have to worry about mother dearest.” He gave her a side smile, approaching the doppelganger slowly, making her walk backward until her back collided with the wall.
“So, it’s true then? She’s forgiven Klaus?”
“It’s true.” She forced a smile on her lips, and Elijah let his eyes linger on her sinful lips.
“You forgot that I can always tell when you lie, Katerina.” Opening her mouth to reply, she was interrupted by the sound of clinking glass.
“Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Waiters are coming around with champagne. I invite you all to join me in raising a glass. It provides me with no greater joy than to see my family back together as one. I’d like to thank you all for being part of this spectacular evening. Cheers.” She raised her glass and the doppelganger internally panicked. She had switched the wrong flutes. When Elijah got his flute, Katherine simply arched her brows, facing the older vampire mockingly.
“Since you’ve discovered me...” She dryly retorted, stealing his flute and drinking it in one go, just like the rest of his siblings. Before Elijah could try to question what the hell was she doing there, she flew trying to find Stefan to go home. After a few moments where she hid from Elijah, she finally found the younger Salvatore... Only, he wasn’t alone and was discussing with his brother, calling the attention of anyone that was leaving the ball.
“Okay, Stefan, nice one. You surprised me, bro. Good for you, but don’t think for a second that that fucking whore wi-”
“Damon, what are you doing?” Katherine bit out, grazing her teeth, wanting more than anything to break his neck again and burn his body just for fun to see him die. He barely turned when he heard her voice, his anger aimed at his brother.
“Oh, shut up, you little devil. Go away.”
“Damon, please! This isn’t you, what is wrong with you?” Scoffing he turned around to face her and gave a wicked grin, making her frown. Katherine gave a step back, but Damon's vamp sped at her, throwing her at the pool, and everyone stood shocked to see what happened, while she screamed and let herself fall into the water, internally screaming and killing Damon in a million different ways. Not even a second later, she was out, shivering and coughing, her gaze darting around wildly until she was hushed and hugged her savior.
“Go now, mister Salvatore. You’ve done enough this evening.” Elijah dismissed him and heard Katherine’s growl. The only thing keeping her from killing Damon was the way the Original’s body was engulfing her, and he should be thankful for this mercy.
“Elena... I can get you home.” Stefan’s voice was controlled and his rigid posture revealed he was not sure how to react.
“I’m fine... I’ll be okay... Elijah won’t let anyone hurt me, Stefan. You can go.” He nodded, only glancing at her once more before flashing out after his brother and Elijah took her to his bedroom to let her dry herself and use Rebekah’s clothes, much to her annoyance. When they returned to his bedroom, Elijah opened his mouth, but Katherine stopped him, saying they should go to her hotel’s room. “We can’t talk here. It’s not safe.” She whispered and he frowned, both vampires escaping through the windows. After a few seconds, they were inside her room and she bit her lip, messing her hair and telling him about his mother’s plan to kill them all.
“So, she wants to kill us all... And you linked yourself with my siblings... Why, Katerina?” She frowned and scoffed, crossing her arms.
“I have no idea if it worked. I might be a doppelganger, but I am a vampire.”
“Well, there’s only one way to find out.” She gulped and before she could reply anything, he disappeared, leaving her alone.

star wars fic masterlist
Hey, folks! Since I am absolutely horrendous at crossposting links to fic on tumblr, thought I’d put together a masterlist of my Star Wars fics. Most of these are easily found on my AO3, but I occasionally post things here that I don’t stick up on AO3. Here divided by era for lack of a better set of themes to divide by.
High Republic Era (232 BBY–)
A Master’s Counsel - Stellan wants to check in with his former Padawan after the Steady Wing disaster; Vern needs some support in the weighty decision she’s just made.
Prequels Era (32 BBY–19 BBY)
You’ve Got Mail - A mixup at Naboo’s post-office puts Jango Fett’s mail in Obi-Wan’s hands. How wrong could bringing it back go? Pretty much just crack, flirting, and begrudging rescues.
Leia Meets the Prequels Gang - chunks posted on tumblr of a story where Leia was thrown back in time from the moment of Alderaan’s desctruction to the moment of Shmi’s death and fell in with the prequels trio.
Four Funerals and a Proposal - Gregar Typho's life from the battle of Naboo through the early days of the Empire, and his developing friendship with Saché, as seen through snapshots at four funerals and one proposal to build a life after together.
Rebellion Era (19 BBY–4 ABY)
The Bridger Extraction - Sabine inflitrates the same elite academy that Ezra Bridger, disciplinary nightmare of an Imperial cadet, is transferred to. Project Harvester + “even in an AU fate brings Ezra to the Spectres.”
Death and the Dame - Necromancy-tinged noir AU. Qi’ra is a private investigator who specializes in the dead. Leia needs answers. Han’s their getaway driver. Qi’ra/Han/Leia, road trips, messy feelings.
death, unfolding - There is no universe in which Jabba survives his final, cruel joke. Short, experimental time loop fic feat. Hutt-Slayer Leia.
The End of Fellowship - Bodhi contemplates the first of many consequences of his choice to defect.
Gambit - Missing scene. When Maul disappears, Qi’ra makes a move to take charge of Crimson Dawn.
Ignite ‘verse - a what-if AU kindled by (off-screen) time travel: Palpatine was successfully deposed before he became Emperor, the Clone Wars lasted eight years longer, Anakin Skywalker eventually left the Order, and the Skywalker twins trained in the Jedi Temple.
It’s Not Fire You Want to Ignite - Just as Leia Skywalker is getting comfortable in her life as a Senate aide, a message from her time-traveling alternate self sends her on a quest to find one Han Solo and unsettles all her plans.
Cusp - On the twins’ eleventh birthday, Obi-Wan and Anakin look to the past, and the future. Little bit of bittersweet closure for me.
Daughter of Naboo - Leia has a complicated relationship with her homeworld. Character study covering her years in the Jedi Temple.
Keep You At My Back - a series of vignettes from the partnership of Hera Syndulla, freedom fighter, and Caleb Dume, Jedi Knight.
bonus: timeline
That Beautiful Shore - At a post-Endor celebration, Enfys shows up to tell Han I-told-you-so.
Leave a Light in the Window - Twenty years after nearly dying on Mustafar, Padmé wakes from cryostasis. When her niece brings her back to Naboo in search of answers about her children, they're caught up in the political turmoil on Naboo, where old friends push back against a Moff intent on silencing resistance against the Empire on Naboo forever.
The Promise - Chewbacca tells Leia she’s included in the life debt; Leia doesn’t like being owed. Found family fluff, by and large.
Your Heart with Me (I Carry It in My Heart) - Lando never quite gets over losing L3; finds a kindred spirit in Hera, who loves her cantankerous droid; and experiences a reunion he’d lost hope in.
New Republic Era (5 ABY–28 ABY)
fate, i found a place for us series - largely canon-compliant up through Mandalorian season 1, this ‘verse starts from the premise that when Ezra and Thrawn disappeared, they eventually found their way to the nascent First Order, working as double agents to stop it from within before it grew too strong. This is kind of now my catch-all Relatively Happy Sequels Leadup ‘verse.
we walk through the fire - When Ezra joined the Knights of Ren, neither he nor Thrawn anticipated the result of one horror too many.
darkness, yet the force - On the tenth anniversary of the Liberation of Lothal, Ezra reaches for a part of himself usually kept buried.
All You See is My Ghost - Ezra gets a lead on the weapon he needs to confront Snoke; Thrawn investigates; Sabine and Luke don’t plan on letting Ezra go all self-sacrificial.
Rattle This Ghost Town - During the hunt for a new home for the former Nevarro covert, Sabine and old comrade Paz Vizsla clash as they contend with the ghosts of old decisions.
Happy Accidents - When attempting to get to Grogu on Tython goes very wrong, Din is thrown back in time to the Clone Wars. It takes meeting several possible Bobas before he realizes. (Bonus: unexpected babysitting duty for adult Boba).
Resistance Era (28 ABY–35 ABY)
The Cost of War - *whispers* I guess this counts. Check Please characters as Resistance flyboys, Ransom and Holster focused, definitely abandoned WIP.
rest for the weary - Finnpoerey, modern AU, h/c: after searching for her bio family and finding only heartache, Rey returns home.
Sabacc Face - Finnpoe flirting and silliness as Poe teaches Finn how to play cards.
Strangers in the Night - While running from present griefs, Han encounters an old one in the form of Qi’ra, come to check up on him.

“Y/N, wait!” Tommy’s voice rose above the rain as you walked away, and you spun around. The rain mixing with the tears that streamed down your face, “We can… We can make it work, just… Just wait for me.”
The threat of the war had loomed over them for quite some time now, but now it was here. And it was taking Tommy from you, “It’s not fair.” You cried.
He cradled your face in his hands and pressed his mouth to yours, “It doesn’t have to be over.” He said into your mouth, “We can make it through this. I’ll be home before you know it and we can get married, yeah?”
It sounded lovely when he said it like that, but you both knew the chances of him coming back at all were slim. Still, your heart wouldn’t allow you to abandon him, this beautiful boy with piercing blue eyes who wanted to take care of horses. What would the war do to him? “Okay.” You said softly, “I’ll wait for you.”
He gave you a small smile, the first you had seen since the news of the conscription had reached you. You draped your arms around his neck and pulled him in for another kiss, which he happily obliged, “I’ll come back for you,” He reassured you as you stood like that in the cold rain, keeping each other warm, “I swear it.”

While Tommy was away, you spent a lot of time with the remaining Shelbys, helped Aunt Pol out with Finn, and of course wrote letters to Tommy weekly. You spent a lot of nights over at Aunt Pol’s, showing up at her door late at night, tear stained face and all because as the years passed, all your parents wanted was to marry you off. They reminded you daily that Tommy wasn’t likely to come back and you were wasting all your good years waiting for him.
“I miss him so much, Pol,” You’d cry in her arms as she stroked your hair, “It’s breaking my heart.”
“I know he misses you too, sweet pea. He swore he’d come back to you. Tommy doesn’t break his promises.” It seemed you had this conversation with Pol over and over as the years passed.
Tommy wrote you less and less, the letters becoming less personal, especially during the last year. You shrugged it off, he must’ve just been having a hard time. It was nearly four years now that he’d been away when you got your last letter from him telling you he’d be home in a few days you had cried and ran through Birmingham, waving the letter around and laughing right into Pol’s arms.
And then, you stood on the train platform in your best dress, your hair curled to perfection, anxiously waiting for his arrival. “What if he doesn’t love me anymore?”
“He does.” Polly said. And she sounded so sure, that you believed her without question.
You bit down hard on your lip as the train rolled into the station, waiting anxiously for it to stop, scanning the windows for Tommy’s face. Man after man walked off the train, running into tearful reunions with family, friends, and lovers. And then finally, finally, Tommy stepped onto the platform and scanned the crowd until his eyes landed on you.
The war had certainly aged him. He was still beautiful, but there were hard lines where his skin used to be smooth, his eyes looked hard and cold now and his face rested in a frown. But his face softened just a little when his eyes landed on you.
You ran to him, and out of habit he opened his arms to you as you flung yourself against him. As his arms circled around you, you noticed now where he used to be soft was now hard, smooth muscle. But still, being in his arms was just as soothing as you remembered. “You waited.” He said, and his voice was more gravelly than you remembered, you wondered how much screaming he had done during the war and tried to hide a shudder.
You pulled back and searched his eyes for any hint of emotion, but you didn’t see any. He reached up his hands to gently wipe the tears from your cheeks, “I promised you I would.”
He nodded, “And I promised to marry you if I came home.” He smiled a bit at that, but it didn’t reach his eyes.
It wasn’t quite what you hoped he would say, but you didn’t have much time to talk about it as Pol and Finn came over, Arthur and John following, looking less somber than Tommy, but maybe just as haunted. You went to talk to them, but kept an eye on Tommy as he talked to Pol. Something was off about him. You supposed you knew the war would change him, but you never thought his love for you would change. How he always opened his heart up to you and only you, but now it seemed closed off to you. He would need time, you decided. But he was still your Tommy and you promised you would wait for him. So you’d keep waiting.
In the days that followed, Tommy bought an apartment for the two of you, and also a ring so he could properly propose. The gestures were nice, but they felt empty. He kissed you often, but there was no passion behind it. And he refused to sleep with you.
One night, when Tommy came home, you waited for him in lingerie you had picked up earlier while he was out. When he walked in and saw you, he immediately averted his eyes, “You should get dressed.” He said quietly and went into the bathing room. You cried while he bathed, but got dressed just the same, and when he came out you asked if you could talk to him.
“Do you still love me, Tommy?”
He stared at the floor, “I got you a ring, didn’t I?”
You shook your head, “I don’t want you to fulfill your promise if you don’t still love me the way you did before.”
He was quiet a moment, but then he took your hands in his, “The mere thought of you was the only thing that got me through that bloody war,” He tips your chin up gently with his fingers so you meet his eyes. The eyes you used to love so much, that always held joy and love, now were cold and hard. “I love you.” He said, “I’ll always love you, I just… need time. To adjust. Can you do that for me?” His voice was gentle and it reminded you just a bit of the Tommy you used to know.
So you nodded, “Okay.”
He gave you a smile that was only a quarter of the smile he used to give you and then kissed your mouth, but it felt cold. You waited until he had fallen asleep before you let yourself cry.
***
For a while, Tommy was quiet after he came home. Gentle, but cold. He barely spoke and told you he was working to build an empire for his family, for you, for the children you would have together.
But then, the nightmares started. Sometimes, he would wake you, screaming, and once you woke him he would push you off him and storm outside for a smoke. Sometimes, you would wake up to him on top of you, seemingly trying to kill you, because he thought you were a soldier in France.
He was much stronger than you remembered and clawing at his wrists didn’t do much to wake him up. The first time it happened, you had somehow gotten your foot loose and kicked him in the stomach. When he woke up and realized what had happened, the look of devastation on his face haunted you every time you closed your eyes.
Tommy had crawled to you on his knees and begged you to forgive him, but you had pulled your hands away, “Don’t touch me!” You cried. He looked so sad then, sadder than you thought you’d ever seen him. It was more emotion than you’d seen from him since he came home.
After that, you made sure you slept with a glass of water in range of your hand to throw on him. It had been effective, but every time it happened, you became more and more terrified of the man you were promised to marry. Tommy noticed the way you shrank away from him, even in the daylight. The way you now avoided touch the way he had in the beginning. He knew you weren’t sleeping for fear of him, because he was no longer sleeping for fear of hurting you.
And so when Tommy came home one day to find your engagement ring on the dresser and all of your things gone, he couldn’t say he was surprised. You had left a note which read: You are not the man I fell in love with all those years ago. This war took more from you than just time. I’m sorry. I can’t wait anymore.
Tommy wasn’t surprised that you had left, not in the least. But that didn’t make it hurt any less.
He left the framed picture of the two of you before the war by the bed, a reminder of what he could’ve had.
***
It had been a year since you had left him. The business was flourishing, but his heart was still cold. He had only grown colder since you’d left and everyone took notice.
“Tommy, you should try and find her. Make things right. Everyone misses her.” Polly pleaded with him one afternoon after he had cussed out John for something small.
He shook his head, “You don’t think I miss her every fuckin’ day, Pol? She left.” He looked around the gambling den, “This isn’t the life she imagined for herself anyway.”
“She waited four bloody years for you, Tommy. She imagined a life with you. No matter what it looked like.”
Tommy poured himself some whiskey and tossed it back, “I’m heading up to London for a few days, you’re in charge while I’m gone.” And he left before Polly could ask him anything else or continue to pester him about you.
***
Alfie Solomons was a pain in Tommy’s arse, but he could also be quite useful when he wanted to be. And right now, Tommy needed him to be useful, which was why he now sat across from Alfie, cigarette hanging from his lips.
“And how much of the cut will I get, when this is all over, eh?” Alfie asked as he poured more whiskey for himself and Tommy.
“I was thinking--” Tommy started, but was cut off by a knock at the door. He didn’t turn to look who it was.
“Come on in, love, it’s alright.” Alfie said in a gentler tone than Tommy had ever heard him speak.
“Made you some tea.” A familiar voice said from behind and it was all Tommy could do not to whip his head around.
You placed the tray on the desk without looking at Tommy and then turned to Alfie, “D’you need anything else, my love?” The tenderness in your voice nearly broke Tommy apart.
“Well don’t be rude, sweetheart, greet our guest!” You finally turned to look at Tommy and the smile fell off your face, “This is Mr. Shelby.” Alfie said and pulled you into his lap.
Tommy clenched his jaw, but reached his hand out to you all the same, “Pleasure to meet you…” He trailed off, feigning not knowing your name, the same name that had left his lips every night while he was away, like a prayer to ground him, to remind him what was waiting for him at home.
You swallowed past your shock and reached your hand out, “Y/N.” You said quietly.
“Don’t worry, love, he’s not as scary as he looks.” Alfie reassured, misinterpreting her shock for fear, and planted a kiss on your neck.
You pasted a smile on your face and turned to him, bringing up a hand to stroke his cheek, “I’m going home for the night, if you don’t need anything else.”
Alfie gripped your chin between his fingers and brought you close to kiss you. Tommy looked away and tried to ignore the roaring in his ears. “Get out of here, then,” He lightly pushed you off his lap, giving your bum a little slap as you left, closing the door behind you.
Tommy was quite uninterested in business now, only wanting to find you and ask you what the hell you were doing with Alfie Solomons. “Sweetest lass I’ve ever met, she is.” Alfie laughed, “Now, where were we?”
***
Tommy quickly wrapped up things with Alfie and then decided he was going to find you. He wasn’t sure how exactly he was going to make that happen, but it didn’t matter. He couldn’t leave London without at least talking to you first. Eventually, after pacing around his hotel room, he picked up the phone and dialed the operator.
He waited, eyes closed for you to pick up, almost positive that you wouldn’t. But the ringing ceased, there was an intake of breath, and then your voice on the other line, “Hello?”
Tommy stayed silent, his eyes clenched shut. “...Hello?” You tried again, but Tommy still couldn’t work up the courage to say something. You sighed, “Tommy, I know it’s you.” He had forgotten how much he loved hearing you say his name. More silence. “Okay, I’m hanging up now.”
“Wait, wait.” He blurted out, “I-- Can I see you?”
You paused, “D’you really think that’s a good idea?”
No, he didn’t, especially now that you belonged to Alfie. But it didn’t quite matter and he didn’t give you the time to discuss it, “Meet me at Brown’s Hotel, room 237 at 8.” Before you could reject him, he hung up.
***
You stood outside Tommy’s door, repeatedly bringing your fist up to the door before dropping it. You could get in a lot of trouble with Alfie for being here. And for what? Tommy hadn’t changed, you could see it in his face when you sat across from him earlier. He was still cold and empty.
Again, you raised your fist to the door, but before you could knock the door swings open and the smell of Tommy hits you in full force. Cloves and sage. Your lip wobbles a bit and your eyes water just looking at him and you hate yourself for how badly you want to touch him. “Do you still take care of the horses?” You blurt out.
His lips twitch and he steps aside for you to come in, “I like to help Curly with the horses when I can, yes. I want to buy my own race horse soon.”
You manage a small smile and swipe at your eyes, “That’s very good, you should spend more time with the horses.” You sniffed, “It’ll do your heart some good.”
“You came.” He lit a cigarette and offered you one, which to his surprise, you took, “And you smoke now.”
You took the cigarette between your lips and leaned over to allow him to light it, “Did you think I wouldn’t come?”
“You seemed very comfortable with Alfie today,” He shrugged, “Didn’t think you’d be interested in seeing me.”
You blow out a puff of smoke, “Alfie is…”
“Your lover?” Tommy smirks.
You glared at him, “I didn’t come here to be patronized.” His smirk falters a bit. “Alfie is fun. He’s always laughing and making me laugh. It was what I needed after…”
“After I was such a downer?” There’s a bitterness in his voice as he stamps out his cigarette, “I didn’t know you liked arrogant pricks so much.”
You follow suit, stamping out your own cigarette, “Why did you ask me here, Tommy? To berate me?”
“I asked you here to see if you were happy and it appears I got my answer. You’re free to leave whenever you’d like.” He sat down on the couch, looking cocky as ever and rage spread through your body.
“Do you think I wanted to leave you? I waited for you for four fucking years, Thomas!”
“Yeah and then you threw it all the fuck away! For what? Fucking Alfie? As if he could love you better than I could?”
Tears were running down your cheeks now, “Maybe I left you a year ago, but Tommy, you left me long before that. You wouldn’t even touch me.”
His eyes grow a little red at that, “I was working on it, I asked you to be patient--”
“Do you still have the dreams?”
“It’s under control, now. Everything’s under control now.”
You look around the room and spot a whiskey bottle, three quarters empty, “You mean you just drink more now?”
“Like I said, it’s under control.”
You hesitantly sit on the couch next to him, “Seeing you so broken everyday was breaking me.” You said softly, taking another shuddering breath, “I didn’t recognize you anymore. I’m sorry.”
He stares straight ahead, not wanting you to see the way his eyes water. But you do. “Do you miss me at all?”
You nod and the tears fall off your cheeks, “All the time.” You reach out your hand to hold his and he doesn’t pull away.
He clears his throat, “Everyone at home misses you. They ask after you all the time, still.”
“And you?”
He looks up at you, “I left all the pictures of us up in the apartment, when you left. Don’t think I’ll ever stop missing you.” You’re both silent as you sit there for a moment, your thumb absently stroking the back of Tommy’s hand, “What would it take for you to come home?”
Home. The word seems to crack you in half and you cry silently, unable to answer him. He moves to the floor, kneeling in front of you. “I can touch you now, eh?” He wipes away your tears and pulls you to your feet, “Lemme show you.”
You don’t stop him when he kisses you, his mouth is warm and soft. For the first time in years, he kisses you like he means it and it’s all you can do not to moan into his mouth. He guides you to the bed, never detaching from you. You know you should stop him, Alfie’s face flashing behind your eyelids, but you had wanted Tommy since you were barely twenty and now you’re not sure you ever stopped. He undresses you, and sure enough, there’s no trace of the Tommy you left behind. He moves confidently and as you watch him undress the want for him that you had stifled overtime seems to rip free.
He makes love to you tenderly and you can feel that he’s meant every word he said to you earlier about missing you. This was all you wanted, wasn’t it? You didn’t mind that he was harder now, colder to others, as long as he was warm to you. You could handle the rest.
“Tommy,” You said breathlessly as he thrust into you, your nails digging into his back, “I love you.”
“I love you too.” He responded, speeding up his rhythm and biting your earlobe in a way that he knew used to drive you crazy. It still did.
When it was finished, you lie next to each other, your hand absently stroking his cheek. “Come home with me.” He whispers into the space between you.
You thought about Alfie as you looked at him, but looking into Tommy’s eyes, you knew you had already made your decision. “Do you still have the ring?”
He gives you a small smile and then walks over to where he draped his trousers over a chair. Reaching into his pocket, you see him pull out a small engagement ring. “I’ve carried it with me everyday since you left. In case I ran into you.”
Your eyes water a bit as he walks over to you and slides it back on your finger, “I’ll be better this time,” He kisses your knuckles, “I’m not the same man you fell in love with, and I know that, but I can still love you the way you deserve. I’ll get us a big house one day,” He’s smiling at you now, “We can have as many kids as you want and it won’t matter because I’ll have the money to take care of you.”
You smile, “Can we have a dog?”
His smile gets bigger and it takes you back to before the war, “Yes, a dog, we’ll have horses too. Anything you’d like.”
You move close to him and nuzzle close to his neck, “Take me home, Thomas.”
***
When the car pulls down the streets of Small Heath, you can’t stop yourself from smiling. You can’t wait to see Pol and the other boys. Tommy helps you out of the car, unable to keep the grin off his own face as he leads you to Polly’s door.
“Polly,” He calls as he opens the door, “We’re home.”
“We?” You hear Pol’s voice from the other room and then it grows closer, “Who’s we--?”
She stops dead in her tracks when she sees you, hands coming up to cover her mouth and her eyes watering, “Hi Polly.” You say softly, trying to stop your own tears. But it’s useless, as Polly pulls you into a hug, the tears fall freely.
“Oh, sweet pea, I thought I’d never see you again.”
“I didn’t either.” You say into her hair.
“Well, come on then,” Polly pulls away and swipes at her eyes, “I’ll put on the kettle, tell me everything, how did our Tommy manage to win you back?”
You look back at Tommy who’s smiling down at you. He wraps his arm around your shoulders and pulls you back against him, kissing your head, “He didn’t have to do much. I never truly left him.”
Polly smiles at the two of you and then ushers you to the kitchen, shooing Tommy off, “You’ll have her the rest of your life, go get a drink with the boys, we’re going to have some girl time. I’ll phone Ada!” She adds and rushes off to another room.
You giggle and turn around to face Tommy, going up on your tiptoes to kiss him, “Am I going to be in trouble with Alfie for stealing you?” He asks as you pull away.
“I dunno. I don’t think so. I don’t think he ever loved me, just thought I was sweet and a nice fuck.”
Tommy frowned in distaste, “I’d rather not picture that. Anyway, I think he might come for you.”
You frown, “Really?”
He shrugged, “Alfie might see it as me making a move against him rather than you making a decision to leave him.”
Your eyebrows furrowed, “Okay, should I be worried?”
“Never, love.” He kissed your forehead, “I’ll sort it out.”
You kissed him again, trying to make up for all the kisses you lost over the years, “Okay, go on then, go with the boys. I’ll meet you at the apartment later.”
He smiled and backed away from you, “Doesn’t seem real that you’re here.”
“Well you better get used to it Mr. Shelby because I’m not going anywhere this time.”
He opens the front door, “Good, wouldn’t want to have to beg you to come home again. Tarnishes my reputation.” And then he’s gone.
