#Fukuzawa deserves someone better than him
Text
Kunikida scolding Dazai a bit for being married to someone from an enemy organisation (he is secretly happy for him and he even somewhat gets along with Chuuya) only to find out that Ranpo is dating Poe from the Guild and Mushitaro who was in Fyodor's organisation and who was a criminal, that Atushi is dating Akutagawa and that Yosano is dating Kouyou.

Telling them you want to marry them. (ADA, minus Kyōka and Kenji)
Tumblr media
Dazai is surprised. That’s such a big commitment, and with someone like him? No, surely you deserve better. He’ll ask you if you’re sure, and when you say that you are he grows so soft and vulnerable. No dramatics, Dazai will simply hold you close to his chest, saying that he wants that too, more than anything. He won’t be letting you go for the rest of the night.
Atsushi lets out a squeak, hiding his face in his elbow. You want to marry him. Him? Oh he’s almost jumping for joy, so overwhelmed with emotion that he tears up. He stands there for a moment, unsure of what to do before engulfing you in his arms, laughing and saying that yes, he’ll marry you. He’ll marry you a million times over.
Kunikida almost drops what he’s holding, face turning crimson in a matter of seconds. His first instinct is to check his ideals, see if the time is exactly as planned, if it all matches up, but he stops himself. If there’s anything he’s learned being with you, it’s that his ideals shouldn’t govern such things. He doesn’t specifically say that he wants to marry you, but he does say that you two really ought to start planning then. Don’t worry, he’s ecstatic.
Ranpo was already aware, merely waiting for you to say it. But now that you have he loses all confidence, standing there with a deep blush on his face. His eyes glance around the room before he turns to you, telling you that fine, he guesses that he could marry you. Guesses that sure, he’d actually really like that.
Yosano lets out a little “oh” as she processes your words, replaying them in her mind until it finally clicks. She lets out a slight laugh, a smile growing. She teases a little, peppers kisses on your face as she tells you how cute you are. She says that she’ll take you out for dinner tonight, somewhere fancy, and tells you to say it again there.
Jun’ichirō grows somewhat timid. You really want to do that, are you sure? You’re both so young, what if either of you come to regret it? But as the warmth grows in his chest he decides that no, if it’s with you he could never regret it, and so with a smile he tells you that he’d truly love that.
Naomi is on you immediately, tackling you into a hug and smothering you with kisses. She wants to marry you so so much and she’ll say it more than once too. The two of you can get married right now in fact, who cares about officiality?
Fukuzawa pauses for a second, looking up at you from his tea. The smile he gives you is filled with nothing but warmth as he grabs your hands in his, saying that the feeling is mutual. He swears that this is the happiest he’s ever been.
Katai buries himself in his futon, flustered beyond words. What have you done to the poor man? Look at him, he can barely speak! After a minute or two has passed he feels an uncharacteristic amount of confidence flow through him. With his heart almost beating out his chest he kisses you, looking you in the eyes as he tells you that he wants the same, before growing flustered once more.

BSD rant? (MANGA SPOILERS!!)
When will BSD fans stop babying Dazai? When will they finally understand that they are projecting themselves on him and don't really "kin" him? (Cuz if you kin Dazai, then ya'll should be in mental hospital).
When will they understand that Dazai is a nihilist person who doesn't care about life or death, good or evil? When will they realize that Mori didn't abuse him or experimented on him (where did that idea ever came from?)?
When will they learn that in BSD no one is good or evil? It's a place for morally grey characters!!
Kunikida and Ranpo were ready to let Atsushi die when he was kidnapped by Akutagawa. Tanizaki was very murder happy with killing Mori. Even Fukuzawa used to be an assassin!!
ADA Dazai is still PM Dazai cuz he doesn't care about anything else besides Oda's wish for him to be on the side that saves people (see how he doesn't say "be on the "good" side"?)
Oda himself said that for Dazai good or bad has same meaning, so why do these so-called fans and "kinnies" pretend that they know him better than Oda? As if Dazai won't kill someone in cold blood? He tried to drown Dostoyevskiy to win against him in latest chapters!
He doesn't hate the mafia, he hates Mori because Mori killed his friend!! That is a reason why he hates Mori.
"He left toxic and abused place" — Dazai is toxic and abusive himself. That toxic relationship between Dazai and Akutagawa and Akutagawa and Kyoka began with DAZAI, NOT MORI! (Unless Asagiri tells us it was Mori.) He didn't care about Akutagawa. No one went and forced Dazai to shoot or beat the shit out him. He did it on his own!
When will they stop babying him? As if Dazai would let anyone abuse or manipulate him, let alone his boss. He did what he did on his own.
It gets so annoying reading BSD fanfics cuz most of writers have him written "sad uwu boy who didn't want to be in Mafia but because he was abused, experimented (simetimes even SA'd) by Mori, he finally left the toxic space, hates Mafia and really wants to be a good person" 🙄
Do they even understand that all these are just "headcannons"? To them if you even say that you like Mori, you are a p*do excuser and abuser lover? Like, do these people even know how to think???
None of whatever they have deluded themselves with is Canon! Dazai is in ADA because of Odasaku. Mori isn't a p*do cuz Asagiri hasn't confirmed anything. Chuuya isn't a feminine uwu boy who can't function without Dazai and Mafia is actually very important to Yokohama.
"Mori doesn't deserve Elise" — Elise is Mori!! She is like Demon Snow and Golden Demon. She doesn't even have a personality unless Mori gives her one. She doesn't have feelings on her own. She isn't a human being.
"Mori said she was his wife" — well she is a part of Mori, so he can call her whatever he wants. Mori probably had her since he was a child. I wouldn't be surprised if he were to love her 🤷‍♀️
"The name of his ability is sus" — well, if they had read real life Mori's book "Vita Sexualis" they would have realized that the book is about a man who has very low s*x drive, probably an asexual — there, a simple answer. So, no we don't know anything about how his ability works and wiki page that says Vita Sexualis is projecting his own sexual wants on Elise isn't canon!
"He said he like his women below 12" — yeah, as a joke, both with Kouyou and Fukuzawa. Elise calling him a "lolicon" is Mori calling himself a "lolicon". Elise hating Mori is also self hatred 🤷‍♀️ Because, once again, Elise doesn't have a personality on her own, do we even know if she can think on her own? BEAST and Yosano’s past kinda raise this question.
They can hate him for what he did to Yosano but if my country was in a war, I, probably, would do the same if someone had that ability. It's one person versus a whole country. It's called necesasry evil.
BSD fans have to realize that what they want to sell as canon is just a headcanon, not everyone has same headcanons and that they are reading a Seinen not Shounen.

It was selfish of him, but Atsushi had wanted nothing more than to push the book away from Ranpo.
To keep him here with him.
He knew it was wrong but Atsushi couldn't help the fear that rose within him when Ranpo vanished.
Atsushi wasn't afraid of much. He didn't fear death, he didn't fear pain or torture. He'd lived a life full of suffering and came out the other side.
What Atsushi feared more than anything, was being alone.
Atsushi had always been alone. No one, not the staff nor the other kids in the Orphanage had wanted to go near him.
The only time someone got close to Atsushi was to hurt him.
And yet, he craved the presence of others. Atsushi spent days upon days alone in his cell, with nothing but the wind outside and the Headmaster as company.
Atsushi would lose himself, some would argue there was nothing to lose. He lost track of days, he knew what his birthday was but never when.
He'd been surprised to learn his age when he left.
Being alone was a reminder that no one wanted him. That the Headmaster was right when he said Atsushi had been abandoned by his parents, by the world itself.
No one wanted him.
No one loved him.
And than the Agency came into his life. Kyouka moved in with him and suddenly Atsushi wasn't alone anymore.
He felt lighter, getting crepes with Kyouka and getting snacks for Ranpo. Doing paperwork with Kunikida. Listening to Junichiro going over a case as Kenji talked about his cow.
He'd roll his eyes and watch Dazai huff theatrically and know he was safe. Yosano's reminder to take care of himself and Fukuzawa's polite nod every morning meant as much.
For the first time in his life, Atsushi felt loved.
He felt wanted in a way he'd never felt before... And this man had taken it all from him.
And Atsushi was alone.
He should be glad Ranpo's safe, that he's out of danger. But there's no relief in his mind.
Only fear.
Atsushi knew he was too far from anyone else. Even if someone heard, they would never reach him time.
He couldn't make a run for it even if his leg wasn't laying elsewhere.
Atsushi wanted to scream, he wanted to cry and yell into the wind.
He felt like he was in his cage again, chained to the wall unable to move or do anything as the Headmaster stood behind the bars.
Watching him like a bored parent at the zoo, the same way Fukuchi stared down at him now.
Atsushi would fight, he would at least try. If not for his own sake than for his friends.
If he failed to save them at least he'd meet his end like he deserved.
He kicks Poe's book behind him, at least Ranpo would survive this and could tell everyone what happened.
Dazai would know what to do like he always did. Atsushi hopes he doesn't feel the pain of loneliness like does.
... Why did Dazai have to save him? Why did he have to show him how good it felt to be loved in the light?
At least when Atsushi was drowning in darkness it was all he knew. He knew better to hope, he knew better than to think he could be loved by others.
Is this how Kyouka felt, is this how Lucy felt... Did he ruin things for them too by giving them hope?
Of course he did... He was Atsushi after all, he ruined everything for everyone simply by existing.
He thinks of his friends and sends them a final message. One encoded deep in his heart where not even Ango could find it.
'Please don't ever show me the light ever again...'

tw // uh nsfw mentions and suicide and general mental illness stuff idk
-
i love fukuzawa sm but idk if id rather him mentor me or fuck me
i think i should die to be honest im sad dude ill cry i wonder if i have a dissasociativive disorder like. depersonalisation seems concerningly familiar well like it makes sense of course derealisation and deperasalisation
idk how to spell but they make so much sense. on the other hand one must consider that i am evil and pathetic and dont deserve an explanation for my feelings nope im jsut bad and should die. but apart from that
im tired man. im very tired i want to cry. i also. cant seem to move

so idk if i have dpdr or im just tired or have executive dysfunction everythings very confusing im trying
why
and is it unreality or is it me philosophising or
whats going on i know no one else knows i dont i feel like i have never been a person i feel like a mirror more than anything i dont know and feelings are so complicated i want to cry and i dont understand whats going on and im so sick of myself but i cant seem to stop and everything i say feels like a lie and i cant remember anything i feel like im fading also how is it almost 11pm
i feel like i dont have any agency and
like if someone has moved the content of this image way to far off the edge
and i dont know if the whole "i dont feel like a person" thing is dpdr or succh strognly engrained self loathing or a combination of both or me making excuses for being lazy or i dont know and it always has always felt like there are too many people in my head. whcih sounds yk. not great. and it isnt but then what if ive convinced myself that i have dpdr/whatever because i just want a label and something solid or i dont know but no i think i do and who is i anyway who am i referring to ive been through this so many times before and nothing changes nothing has every changed and nothing will help
and i know it sounds like im having a panic attack because i am but this is how it feels all the time
oh
i used to joke to myself that my brain was either so full of thoughts it hurts or completely empty and full of fog but that might be dpdr
like, anxiety/trauma or dissacociative
oh no
but idk i havent really had an trauma what if im making this up just because i want my friend to know whats wrong with me and me to get better and have a nice little storyline and get better
it feels like whenever im lucid im in pain
ha. well. thats a thing now i guess
im so tired of this. but its all good its fine. i cant even self harm properly
what if the reason im so anxious all the time is because im scared of why im doing something
it feels like im comingn to some big resolution but what if im just convincing myself of that so i can feel good but everything will stay the same? there are dried tears on my laptop and they look like stains of cum
oh no i think i might be dpdr. like. when /that/ happened. i distracted msyelf and felt "usual" and then i was reminded of it and it hurted so much
oh no oh fuck what
well. theres that i guess
yeah no im pretty sure i have uh depersonalisation/derealisation disorder. it makes a lot of sense. at last the puzzle of the self is completed and im better and everything is fine /s
no wonder i relate to will wood and jreg so much.
there is now the issue of
a) who the fuck am i
b) what the fuck do i do now
uh i need help i think ( yeah no shit )
it really does feel like there are hundreds of people living up in my brain
im scared about what i should do next.
i have to go to london tomorrow
no wonder i find it so hard to explain my thinking process and emotions. of course. it makes sense now
im posting this so theres some external record of what happened today. but this is basically a diary entry so yknow.

I hope this isn't to much and if it is you could just do few of them💕
-Chuuya, Ranpo, Dazai, Atsushi with Furuya Rei, Akai Shuichi with reader always so suddenly changed their personality and attitude like sometime they gonna be clingy and loud and next time they gonna be motherly or quite
I'm so sorry if you don't get what I meant 😭 just skip it if you don't get it
-❤
Okay, this is really hard to choose. I'm gonna do Dazai, Ranpo (because I know they will love it) as well as Atsushi (because i haven't written for him yet and also he'd deserve that) for now. Maybe I'll do the others after some time ☺
And don't worry, I got it 🌺
My Navigation is here.
Warnings: motherly as a genderneutral adjective, small mention of Dazai being depressed
Tumblr media
He finds it incredibly fascinating
And I think he likes it too
It means you can keep up with his antics, indulge in them even
And still be the responsible half
He loves joking around with you, being dramatic and everything
He loves when you cling to him (makes his "frozen" heart go boom)
And also (softly) loves it when you scold him for being reckless, when you quietly force him to take a break, letting him lay his head on your lap or chest as you play with his hair because you somehow always know when he's feeling more depressed than usually
In his eyes, the fact that you can do both, makes you absolutely perfect for him
Tumblr media
He thinks it's funny
Eats your motherly side up
Absolutely adores when you coddle him
Also loves that you can keep up with his antics
He can have fun with you and you keep him grounded?
Check mate Fukuzawa, he could find someone up to his standards
(His standards are "not a bore", "praises me", "coddles me")
Gets so lovestruck watching you bake for him
(Sometimes it escalates to a flour fight)
Your praises make him feel dizzy, especially when you say them softly, gently patting his head which strangely doesn't make him feel patronised, but so, so good
Makes a cute blush appear on his cheeks and ears
Tumblr media
He's really confused
Don't get him wrong, he loves you
But it just...how are you loud and clingy in one moment and motherly and quiet the next?
Now, he probably prefers the second version a bit better (without wishing the other away, obv) because he can work with that better
As much as he loves the affection you show him, the clinginess might overwhelm him
He's that touchstarved
It makes him go beet red
(At least don't do that in front of Dazai or Ranpo, they'll laugh at him)
He loves that side, but it flusters him to no end
He prefers your quiet, motherly nature
If it's directed at him, it makes him blush as well, but it doesn't overwhelm him, it relaxes him
It makes him feel at home
Actually, even though he doesn't tend to mind your loud and clingy nature, if he needs you to calm down, a kiss has proven effective to ground you

Soukoku and a kiddo HCs
Some of this might refer to my own OC rather than just any kid, but anyway Dazai is still with the ADA, Chuuya is either the mafia boss or still an exec under Mori.
Chuuya has a fondness for stray kids and Dazai is impartial to orphans because of Odasaku, but neither of them plan on having kids or adopting because wow they have hectic lives and they themselves are very chaotic.
They’re also doing this new thing called can we have a functional relationship with each other?  This includes Chuuya not turning to alcoholic tendencies every time he gets overwhelmed and Dazai not attempting to actively kill himself without going to Chuuya or someone else first, and the both of them trying to open up and trust each other more outside of combat.
Chuuya is probably walking home to one of his safehouses late at night, and some street kid comes and pickpockets him.  And GETS AWAY with it.  Chuuya is just shocked because excuse??? Some runt just came and picked his pocket???  He’s more amazed that someone would dare to pick his pocket and succeed rather than be annoyed.  Well damn.  The kid didn’t take anything important, just a bit of pocket change so Chuuya doesn’t care.  But he’s impressed.
Dazai finds out when Chuuya mentions it over dinner and he’s DYING of laughter.  He wants to meet this kid.
“Chibi got mugged!”  “I didn’t get mugged, you asshole!  I just said they stole some pocket change!”  “Ah, Chibikko’s losing his touch.  “You bastard!”
So Dazai does what Dazai does best and finds the kid without Chuuya even telling him a single thing.
“All I do is check the security cam footage you have around the safehouse, but that must be too big for your sheepdog brain to handle.”
The kid is a little snappy at first because who the fuck is this bandaged wearing idiot asking if they stole something.  They live on the STREETS, what DON’T they steal?  And then it clicks that they stole from a Port Mafia Executive.  And Not just ANY PM Exec, they stole from the Gravity Manipulator.
The kid: “haha I’m in danger”
Dazai catches them and brings them back to Chuuya’s apartment and the kid is freaking out because oh my god, I’m going to lose my hand for stealing.  Or worse!  And Dazai is just so happy, what an asshole
“Chibi!”  “What do you want, asshole?”  “Look!”  “Did you KIDNAP a fucking child!”  “No, this is kid who stole from you, remember?  The one who mugged you and stole your cash!”  “You kidnapped a child.”
At this point the kid is in hysterics because why is he so happy?  What’s going on?  Are they going to die???  And then Chuuya, always the one with manners, is like I’m sorry my asshole boyfriend kidnapped you, can I make it up to you with dinner and a shower?
They’re not going to turn down free gifts, but they are extremely on edge.  But Chuuya is a great cook and his shower is luxurious because he knows how to treat himself right (unlike a certain mackerel).
So the kid takes a shower first because hot water is utterly delightful and should never be wasted, they have two bowls of ramen and rice with nori sheets because hunger.  Chuuya is appreciative because at least someone appreciates the hard work he puts into his food.  Dazai is secretly relieved because he won’t have to eat the leftovers and he can just eat canned crab without feeling guilty.
Dinner and a shower turns into a night on the lounge in the study in safety and comfort, which turns into breakfast in the morning, which turns into dinner every few months and the cycle repeats until Dazai spills sake on the lounge and insists that the kid move into the spare bedroom for the night.
This kid is like okay wtf.  Chuuya is exasperated, Dazai is scheming.  Chuuya makes them have a sit down conversation because he’s trying to be better and the kid doesn’t need more dysfunction in their life.  They extend an open invitation for the kid to come by whenever they want.
“Or you could just stay, it’s not like we’re not used to you at this point.  And you haven’t run away screaming from us so we haven’t messed up yet.”  “Dazai… what the fuck.”
Dazai and Chuuya agree to keep the kid away from the mafia, mostly Mori because Mori could use the kid as leverage over both Chuuya and Dazai and thas no bueno.  (If Chuuya’s the mafia boss then he’ll probably keep the kid away from the mafia, unless they want in then he’ll sit down with them and have a talk to make sure they know what they’re getting into).  So, Dazai gets a little shadow that just kind of loiters around the ADA.
Dazai trades completed paperwork for tutoring lessons from Kunikida when he has time, Yosano teaches them anatomy and basic first aid, Atsushi, Ranpo, Tanizaki, Naomi and Kenji get a new friend.  Fukuzawa sometimes spends time enlightening the kid about politics and strategy and history, or watches over the kid when Dazai has to work on a case.
Kouyou finds out about the kid on accident and whisks the kid away to teach them etiquette and class and spoils them with shopping.  Despite her loyalty to Mori, her fondness of Chuuya keeps her from outing the kid to the Boss.
At home, Chuuya teaches the kid martial arts and if they have an ability then Chuuya and Dazai team up to coach the kid through developing their power whatever it may be.  Dazai also teaches the kid how to pick locks and psychology, like how to read body language, how to lie, how to get the truth from someone.
I feel like the kid wouldn’t completely abandon the streets, so they go visit old friends and bring left overs or snacks or water bottles to their friends still on the street.
Even though they don’t need to, the kid has connections through other street orphans so they can relay information to Dazai and Chuuya.
“There’s been this group trying to take over one of the ports, but we can’t find any intel on where their base is located or who they are.”  “Oh, you mean the group of people taking shelter in one of the abandoned warehouses?  They’re so rude.”
“The killer escaped, but they aren’t sure how.”  “If you go down this alleyway, you can sneak over the wall.  It’s hard, but once you figure out how to get over, it’s really easy to lose people.”
Dazai and Chuuya have a push and pull type of relationship.  It’s balanced for the most part because they trust each other and know each other well, but sometimes it tips too much like when Dazai gets flighty and suicidal and refuses to tell anyone or when Chuuya starts falling back on alcohol, then it’s a little rocky.  But I feel like having someone else to provide and care for and receive help and appreciation helps them to balance out.
I really like this headcanon because I’m a sucker for found families and Soukoku deserves to be happy dammit.

hi! idk if you do platonic requests but if you do could you do some platonic fluff with a reader who is fukuzawa’s (teenage) daughter and him and her get along well and she hangs out at the agency a lot and is friends with all the agency members? thank you!
Normally I don't do Platonic because it’s a struggle for me, but this seemed entertaining to write. I decided to go with a separate HC space and then an all-together HC at the end. So most of the Agency members get a HC of what time spent together is like. Enjoy!
A friend | Fukuzawa’s daughter W The agency |
Atsushi-
The time you spend with him is usually to help deal with Dazai at first. That and you wanted to get to know the newer member.
He’s pretty nervous talking to you at first, and probably doesn't even realize you're the president's kid.
That is laughable, but you don’t mind not getting the little extra attention.
Movie nights and popcorn tend to be what you two call geek nights. Most of the time, Kyoka sits in the back and watches, but she comes closer to steal popcorn from your bowel here and there.
You actually like spending time in their apartment, since Atsushi is a great friend, and you really like his company since he can make you smile, laugh, and forget about responsibilities.
When you're not hanging out and watching movies, you text him a lot and still find it funny how slow he is in learning the basics of today's texting language. You had to sit there and explain what Idk was. He was so confused for about ten minutes before making the realization and feeling like an idiot to which was met with a bowl of ice cream and lots of snickering from you.
Kyoka-
She’s one of the younger members, and since you're not an adult like Atsushi and the other 98% of the agency, it’s nice to be able to talk to someone who is mature but still young.
She’s also like a sister to you. It’s easy to talk to her, even though she has the wildest answers to your rants. Sometimes you have to break your laughter to tell her that would be illegal.
You wish she’d sit closer during movie nights, maybe join in on playing just dance, something you generously donated to Atsushi, so he would stop asking what it was.
She’s distant and a little cold for her age, but she’s also sweet, protective, and caring.
It’s fun having girls' days, just the two of you hanging about. You get to treat her to all sorts of fun. Taking her to fairs and to eat crepes.
Dazai-
He’s a funny guy.
You wouldn’t say you were exactly friends.
Considering he’s not one to talk or really want to hang out.
He’s just somebody who happens to hate working and is a great small talker.
Whenever you’re at the agency, it’s always entertaining to scheme and make inside jokes with Dazai, but sometimes it feels one-sided.
He tends to move conversations fast and in the direction of talking about his latest plan for suicide.
Of course, he refuses to ask you or flirt since he’s an adult and you're still a teenager.  That and your father would have his head served on a nice platter with the cleanest katana cut known to this planet.
That is not the way he wishes to go out.
However, he’s also the therapy friend, well he and Yosano are. He’s shockingly good with giving you advice and telling you ways to talk to your dad about what you’ve been feeling.
He also suggests messing with Kunikida, and you do.
Turns out messing with his schedule is just as fun as Dazai makes it out to be.
Ranpo-
You two have this shady trade thing going on.
He slips you cash, you hand him whatever sweet was on the market today.
Seriously, if the others didn’t know better, they would say it was some undercover drug deal.
Like the first time they saw you slip a hand under your jacket and pocket money, they were all confused.
Ranpo and you are actually the closest, but that’s because you’ve known him the longest, being the president's daughter, and all, you met him when he first joined.
You do admire him considering how talented he is when it comes to deducting things.
When he isn’t working, the two of you like to build forts and just chat while watching crime shows and murder mysteries, as well as horror movies. Ranpo is the biggest critic ever. He’ll click his tongue, pinch the brim of his nose, shake his head, and is just utterly disappointed at times. He likes to point out the stupidity of the detectives, murderers, and of course even the victims in the horror movies. The only one he’s ever seemed to be somewhat alright with watching is the purge. He manages to go nearly the whole movie without commenting.
You enjoy it though, it’s funny how aggravated he gets with simple movies.
Yosano-
She’s a dear
Absolutely loves getting to talk with you.
She’s also the go-to for any personal matters
She also happens to be a doctor, so it’s cool to listen to her stories
She has some of the most shocking and surprising stories you’ve listened to.
Yosano also loves listening to how you’ve been and how finding yourself a s/o is going. She’s definitely trying to play as your wing woman. She wants all in with your love life. After all, she can’t have somebody who doesn't deserve you to take a shot.
She’s kinda motherly in a way.
She does tend to be less intimidating around you than she is around the others.
Group HC
When you’re all hanging out, like in the lower floor cafe or just hanging about in the agency, there is not a moment of silence.
There it's just chaos.
Kunikida is yelling
Dazai is trying to get you to help him in his “evil” plans against Kunikida.
Yosano is terrifying Junichiro
You're negotiating with Ranpo over sweets and money
Atsushi is just sitting there in a corner confused, and also just ashamed that it can be the chaotic
Somehow, Kyoka ends up bickering with Naomi
And it just keeps going.
Somehow, all of that happens only on the days you're there bouncing from person to person, interrupting their work.
It brings a little life to the near boring atmosphere of the agency’s calmer workdays.
Of course, Fukuzawa always ends up getting everybody back to work because noise complaints are a bother.

MBTI PAIRINGS BSD
These are just my natural gut instincts mostly for which types I think would be a good partner for the BSD cast. These are highly stereotyped and obviously my unprofessional opinion. I've noted the ones that I am particularly biased about, so take those with even less than a grain of salt because this is purely just me rambling. Also the explanations got longer towards the end, so oops. Here they are, the mbti bullcrap that nobody asked for:
Atsushi - ENFJ, I think ENFJs are good at helping others find a purpose and making others feel like they belong and Atsushi would benefit from someone more outgoing than him since he tends to be bashful.
Kunikida - ISFJ, I think he needs someone who will take care of him and help ease his stress and ISFJs are amazing at that.
Dazai - INFX, he needs someone who will look past his flaws and still see the humanity in him. I also think INFJ and INFP are good at brainstorming random ideas with people, which I think someone like Dazai would enjoy.
Naomi - ISXJ, I think she would do well with someone that is quieter and focused on taking care of the little daily tasks. I think ISTJs and ISFJs would let her take the lead socially, which I think she would enjoy.
Ranpo - ENXP, I kind of feel like Ranpo needs someone similar to him and can keep up with his train of thought. I think having someone who understands him and just wants to laze around would make him really comfortable.
Yosano - INFP, she's been through a lot and she is a strong woman, so I think having someone gentle who won't try to push her too hard would be so sweet for her.
Tanizaki - ESFJ, Honestly I just think he would be good with someone upbeat and friendly.
Fukuzawa - IXFJ, he needs someone calm who he can sit and relax with. Someone who he can care for but that can care for him in return when he is overworked.
Akutagawa - ISFX, he needs someone soft so that he can be comfortable with his own feelings, I think. Having someone who can show him a different way of living than the mafia and can show him the beauty in the world.
Higuchi - ESTJ or INTJ, she needs to have someone who values her work as much as she does. I think having someone who can keep her on track and focused would help her to gain more confidence in herself.
Kouyou - ISFP, I think ISFP have an eye for romance and have an artistic view of love and see a lot of beauty in the world and could help reignite that in her.
Tachihara - ESFJ, he would need someone friendly and understanding. ESFJ are also good at saving face and blending socially, which he might need in his line of work...
Gin - ENFX, Gin needs someone to bring out her lighter side and someone she can just have a good time with. ENFP could take her on a lot of fun dates and ENFJ could do a lot of fun volunteer work with her.
Hirotsu - XNTJ, he would do well with someone progress focused and who knows what they want out of life. Someone who he could build a life together with without needing him around all the time.
Chuuya - ESFJ, I just feel like he goes really well with the cheerleader stereotyped person. Someone who can take him out of the house and go wine tasting together and acts appropriately in social situations. I think he would want someone who can handle themselves without being too independent.
Mori - EXFP, kinda just feel like he would match well with the "genki girl" stereotype. Someone who goes along with his silly ideas and doesn't make him feel like he has to constantly be in control.
Oda - INFP, GIVE ODA A SOFT PARTNER!!!! He deserves someone gentle and sweet who will let him know that he has truly changed his ways and that he is a good man. Someone he can daydream with and if that isn't an INFP then I don't even know. (I'm biased when it comes to Oda because he really did try to change himself for the better.)
Ango - ESTJ, He would be good as the more submissive half of a power couple. He would do well with someone as meticulous as he is, but someone who can bear the responsibility and weight of decisions better than him.
Fyodor - ENTP (biased) or ISTX, look I'm not gonna sit here simping over rat-man and pretending that I wouldn't ship him with myself as an ENTP so I'm entirely biased on that front. Ideally an ENTP could understand his way of thinking and be able to debate him on his beliefs, which I think he would enjoy explaining, but I think and ISTJ or ISTP who is good at following orders and carrying them out accurately would greatly appeal to Fyodor as nothing comes before his plans. As an ENTP, I think he could have like 5 minutes of fun and then I'd be dead, but damn it if a girl can't dream.
Ivan - EXTJ, plain and simple he no longer feels negative emotions, so it wouldn't do him any good being with someone who wants to talk about his feelings really. Having someone logical and dominant would suit him much better.
Nikolai - INFP, he would do well with someone who wants to understand him but doesn't completely grasp his motivations. *cough*so he doesn't murder them*cough*. Someone who can try to gently free his soul without making him feel like he needs to be free of emotions.
Sigma - ESFJ or INFP, I feel like he could be the more submissive partner to a charming and friendly ESFJ or the dominant partner to a dreamy and loving INFP. I think Sigma would like kind of being in a defined role in his relationship since he would have a more clear idea of what he should do.

The Strength of Selfishness
Each character in BSD has a degree of selfishness or selflessness in themselves, but the way this concept is executed opens discussion on the nuance of “selfishness,” or specifically the flaws in believing selfishness is an inherently bad trait.
Atsushi
Atsushi fits the description of selflessness, but I’d argue that he’s actually more selfish than he thinks he is (keeping in mind that being selfish isn’t necessarily a bad thing).
Tumblr media
Akutagawa points out how Atsushi will needlessly risk his life in order to protect others, which sounds like a pretty heroic act, but it comes with a cost. Atsushi isn’t invincible, especially at this point in the story when he hasn’t fully mastered his ability, but his insistence on protecting others puts him in constant danger.
At the end of the day, Atsushi would have a greater chance of surviving many of the dangerous situations he puts himself into if he was more selfish by protecting himself before others.
However, Atsushi is also somewhat selfish in his motivations for acting so virtuously.
Tumblr media
Once again, Akutagawa points out how Atsushi only acts this way because of his deeply rooted belief that he has to risk his life for someone else in order to give his life value. You could argue that Atsushi only saves others as an attempt to prove to himself that he’s worthy, an inherently selfish motive. If Atsushi actually died, he would be endangering the people he could save in the future.
Tumblr media
Selfishness also includes self-centeredness. Particularly with Akutagawa, Atsushi’s tendency to focus solely on himself becomes especially noticeable. Atsushi constantly doubts himself and his strengths; he also ignores his privileges and the struggles of others, particularly when he can’t completely understand them — hence why he views Akutagawa so harshly but sees Kyouka and Lucy as people who need to be saved.
Despite all of this, Atsushi still creates a positive impact in other people’s lives. His innately selfish motivation is what drives him to protect others, and he ultimately succeeds in doing that (case in point Kyouka and Lucy again).
Akutagawa
Akutagawa is pretty similar to Atsushi in how his past led to his inevitably selfish motives, but his manifests in a different way.
Tumblr media
Akutagawa has to be selfish to protect himself, due to a mix of his past prior to joining the mafia and Dazai’s teachings that collectively reinforced the belief that if he’s weak, he can’t survive.
This results in Akutagawa taking other people’s lives, a direct contrast to how Atsushi saves others, in order to prove his worth as a strong individual that deserves to live. However, this sentiment narrowly crosses the line of hypocrisy when Akutagawa does the very same thing that he criticized Atsushi for: looking for value in his life through other people.
Akutagawa also unnecessarily risks his life in order to prove his strength, which is arguably more dangerous and selfish than what Atsushi does.
Tumblr media
When Akutagawa fights Hawthorne, he practically eggs on Hawthorne to kill him, or at the very least fight with the intent to kill. Akutagawa was also injured before entering this fight, so running away would’ve been all the more reasonable than continuing to fight.
Tumblr media
Drawing another parallel to Atsushi, Akutagawa has that very same resolve of risking his life unnecessarily to prove his worth.
It’s undeniable that Akutagawa has killed many people — which is arguably extremely selfish — and loss of life really isn’t something that I want to push as morally correct. However, I would like to push the idea of redemption: finding a way to escape this messy lifestyle. I sincerely doubt that the incessant cycle of killing is any good for Akutagawa, or that it’s the life that he wants to have.
With Atsushi and Akutagawa, both of their character arcs will develop accordingly to this balance of selfishness and selflessness.
Ranpo
Ranpo is characterized in a slightly selfish way, but this mindset comes with good reason (relating to Ranpo’s past).
Tumblr media
When Atsushi was kidnapped, Ranpo places priority on protecting the agency. If he were to meddle with Atsushi’s problem, which was technically a personal issue, then the agency as an organization would be put at risk. This isn’t necessarily a “wrong” mindset, but it is self-centered.
Tumblr media
Of course, this is one of many examples to showcase Ranpo’s arrogance, but his arrogance is actually a form of self-protection.
“So his father knew, after all. He understood that Ranpo possessed an extraordinary gift. He knew his son had the special ability to observe, remember, and uncover the truth in the blink of an eye. That was why he sealed it away. He didn’t want Ranpo to go astray, to ever hurt others and make the world his enemy.  His father wanted Ranpo to learn virtue and what’s right just like any ordinary person until he had grown up with good judgment and knowledge.” —  LN 3, “The Untold Origins of the Detective Agency”
Before Ranpo met Fukuzawa, he was just a young, lost boy who didn’t recognize his extraordinary talents. His parents taught him to be modest to allow him to develop as a normal person, but he never truly understood who he was in comparison to other people because he was orphaned at a young age.
Thus, Ranpo had to embrace his superiority, in an albeit dramatic way, in order to accept the world and himself. If he believed that people weren’t as intelligent as him, then he wouldn’t have to hate himself for feeling like an outsider to a world he doesn’t understand.
Similarly to Akutagawa, Ranpo’s selfishness isn’t born out of hatred or negligence for others, it’s simply a survivalist instinct.
Dazai
Dazai’s case is a little trickier to define, but I feel that he’s changed a decent amount throughout the series. I’ve seen some people argue that Dazai only helps others because of Oda’s dying wish, which would make his motivations for doing so inherently selfish. This rings true for Dazai before becoming a part of the agency, but I’d say he’s changed a lot just from interacting with the other agency members.
Tumblr media
Dazai’s shown to be capable of the selflessness that involves risking your life for others, but because he’s Dazai, he’s most likely never going to actually die (he has taken necessary precautions to make sure he doesn’t die like in Dead Apple). In this case, Dazai was willing to risk his life for intel from Fyodor, similar to how he got captured by the PM intentionally for intel on Atsushi.
What he says here is especially important: “Certainly, people are sinfully stupid. But what’s so wrong about that?” The Dazai that was once isolated from others, that lacked a sense of direction and purpose in life, has grown one step closer to finding that purpose.
It’s no secret that character to character relationships have a big impact on everyone in BSD, but it’s especially relevant for Dazai who’s growth comes from learning about human nature. He and Fyodor both share a level of super intelligence that ostracizes them from the rest of society, which consequently makes them incapable of understanding other people.
Dazai’s statement here just shows how he’s willing to look past people’s mistakes — yes, they may be sinful and/or stupid, but that’s just a part of human nature.
And in this case, he acts in a stupid way by risking his life for someone else. Yes, it may be stupid, but this selflessness is also a part of being human.
I’d also like to add that Dazai was somewhat selfish in leaving the PM so suddenly after Oda’s death. As an executive, he undoubtedly had some responsibilities to handle, and not to mention Chuuya who was dragged into the mafia because of him in the first place. However, leaving the mafia was ultimately better for his development, and you could argue that the PM is doing just fine with Mori remaining as the leader. Thus, Dazai is another example of how selfishness isn’t harmful in nature.
Mori
On the topic of Mori, he’s a character who outright acknowledges his selflessness as a necessity for the mafia’s advancement.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As I mentioned before, selflessness is a stereotypically heroic trait, but it’s flipped around in BSD. You see protagonists with greater selfish convictions than the antagonists, who live their life based on this idea of selflessness.
Of course, just because Mori is an antagonist, this doesn’t mean that selflessness is an innately “evil” trait. In fact, this selflessness is how he grows his organization and gains respect from his subordinates. Mori’s selflessness is used for the benefit of everyone else in the PM (ignoring the obvious crimes that the mafia commits of course).
Oda
Oda is often seen as the role model example for a “good man,” in the world of BSD — which is true to a certain extent. We certainly know how he was selfless in a multitude of scenarios, from saving the orphans at the Dragon’s Head Conflict, to his resolve to not kill anyone, and his push for Dazai to leave the mafia.
However, I’d like to discuss Oda’s selfishness. Oda was well-aware of Dazai’s issues during Dark Era, and he seemed like the only person who would understand Dazai at that level. Despite this, he still chose to die.
“(Dazai) is just a child who’s too smart. Just a crying child who’s been left alone in the darkness, a world of nothingness far emptier than the world we can see.”
— LN 2, “Osamu Dazai and the Dark Era”
Oda is an idealist first and foremost; when reality fails to match his ideals, it becomes unbearable for him to continue living on.
Oda was selfish in his conviction to die, because he knew he could’ve done more for Dazai, but he chose to leave him with a dying wish rather than staying with him to potentially fill that void of loneliness.
(I’d like to mention that Oda wasn’t wrong for his choice, because Dazai ended up on the right path in the end. It was simply an act of selfishness that ended for the better).
Kunikida
Kunikida is an idealist, much like Oda, but he also draws close to being a realist at certain moments.
Tumblr media
Kunikida shares the same selfless resolve as Atsushi: to save everyone. His ideals seem unbreakable to the point where he would risk his life and succeed in the end no matter what, purely because he’s just that committed towards his goals.
This treads closely to Atsushi’s selfishness. In this case, for Kunikida, it’s somewhat a part of his self-fulfilling prophecy to make his ideals come true, but he acts selflessly because of these ideals that he believes in.
An important thing to note here is Fyodor’s grin, because Fyodor — as an idealist — is well aware of the fact that the greater the ideals, the loftier these ideals become in reality.
“By that very logic, then Miss Sasaki was not responsible for any of these recent events! She didn’t even want a world in which all criminals are rightly judged! She only— Tell me, Dazai! Was it right for her to die? Is this the ideal world I’ve sought for…”
— LN 1, “Osamu Dazai’s Entrance Exam”
At the end of the Azure Messenger Arc, Kunikida realizes the flaws in his ideals when he fails to uphold them. By trying to save both Rokuzou and Sasaki, he ended up losing the both of them. No matter how hard he tried to save them, there was no possible way for him to achieve the level of “justice” that he desired.
This teaches an incredibly valuable lesson to Kunikida that shifts his mindset towards a more selfish direction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kunikida’s experience leads him to teach Atsushi, another person strongly motivated by ideals, to not follow the same path as him. You could interpret this as a sign of Kunikida’s declining resolve, but I prefer to view it as another form of self-preservation.
Kunikida very well understands the pain that comes from not meeting his ideals, which could easily affect to Atsushi considering how difficult it would be to save Kyouka.
Tumblr media
The scene in which Kunikida goes to save Atsushi parallels what Kunikida told him previously: “Your boat can only carry one person. If you let someone beyond salvation come aboard, you will only drown together.”
Notice how Kunikida is in a boat with plenty of space, but out of fear that his ideals won’t be upheld, he’ll lower them to an lesser standard. Instead of trying to save two people, he settles for one, despite the fact that he has the capacity for two.
This instance is a moment of selfishness from Kunikida, an act of self-preservation to prevent the inevitable pain that comes with unmet ideals.
However, Atsushi subverts his expectations by pushing himself to save Kyouka regardless of his sinking boat, because Atsushi’s own ideals motivate him to do so. Kunikida teaches Atsushi to be careful with the balance of selfishness and selflessness; Atsushi teaches Kunikida the beauty in being selfless.

previous: part 2 : their beloved president
author’s note: same ages as last time!! (so that means everyone is one year younger than canon; that makes yosano 24)
this one is actually pretty long :0
i got info abt her likes on her wiki page (careful! there’s spoilers!)
and yosano is a queen and no one can tell me otherwise
Tumblr media
the doctor is in the house (quite literally)
going grocery shopping was an okay chore in your opinion
it honestly depended on your mood or whatever kind of shit happens when you go shopping
cause like something always, always happens whenever you go do groceries
sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad, and sometimes it’s just plain weird
one time some weirdo proposed to you in the middle of the store asking for a double suicide
he was good looking you’d admit but it’s not like you’d ever see him again
or so you thought
a n y w a y s
every so often, you’d run out of real person food in your apartment
you mostly survive off all of the leftover bakery treats and ingredients—which works out pretty well actually—but bakery supplies unfortunately also run out quite often
and also unfortunately, one time when both fukuzawa & ranpo took a visit to Sakura’s, fukuzawa argued that “no you can’t live off sweets for the rest of your life”
ranpo was scandalized and scrambled to cover your ears
you guys were at it for a while
in the end you sided with fukuzawa causing ranpo to go off about “betrayal from the people he cared most abt” or smth like that
you guys were okay again after bribing him with sweets :)
for bakery supplies you usually have them delivered bc you order them in large quantities bc ahaha no way were you gonna carry like 15-20 50 pound bags of flour no way
when days like those happen, you close up the bakery early so you aren’t walking home when it’s too dark
you scheduled it to happen every first saturday of the month
on those saturdays, you close at 5 instead of at 8
currently, you were at the grocery store looking for basic cooking ingredients such as proteins, vegetables, fruits, and most importantly, snacks
ranpo’s been rubbing off on you
the sun was starting to set and you were walking home with your two bags of groceries when shit went down
tbh you were kinda expecting it cause your grocery run was peaceful for once
but what you weren’t expecting was a wack-a-do to appear out of goddamn nowhere right when you were opening the side door to get to the staircase up to your apartment
like honestly
let a woman do her own thing
the man who grabbed you tried to covered your mouth so you couldn’t scream but you didn’t exactly make it easy for him
you kicked and thrashed around even using the grocery bags—that were somehow still in your hand—as a weapon and the man struggled but he was still bigger than you and was able to bring you to a nearby alley
he reeked of alcohol and you spotted a wedding band on his left hand
not that you cared about the detail in the moment
you kicked him in the groin and in response he let you go only to fall on broken glass that was in the alley way
using the wall to help yourself up, you grabbed a nearby wooden stick and struck him right on his back
your attacker fell and you immediately turned on your heels to escape only to fall back down on the hard cold ground once again
you lift your face up and look back to see the man holding onto your ankle
grabbing a shard of glass—cutting yourself in the process— you begin to swing it at him only for him to easily grip your wrist and stop you
you get ready try and kick him in the groin again but you’re interrupted as your attacker gets sucker punched and flies to wall
you look up to see your savior and you’re blessed to see a beautiful woman, probably not that much older than you are—she’s probably around ranpo’s age— donning a white long sleeve button up, a matching black necktie, knee length skirt, and gloves, along with tights, red heels, and a pretty butterfly clip in her short black hair
but what you really notice is her eyes
ranpo’s eyes were pretty but you like hers just a bit more
you’ve always liked the color magenta
the pretty lady holds out her hand and you take it graciously and thank her as she helps you up
as that’s happening, your attacker gets himself onto his feet and his groan catches both of your attention
he struggles to stand and the pretty lady simples saunters over to him and delivers an uppercut knocking him out cold
you’re stunned and you breathe out a “thank you” making her turn towards you
she notices the condition you’re in
bleeding scrapes on your hands, arms and legs, small rips in your clothes like your tights, blouse, and skirt, and the ruffled state of your hair and clothing
she asks if you live nearby and you tell her that you own the bakery that’s one or two buildings away
when you tell her that, it clicks in her mind that you must be the bakery girl ranpo’s been talking about and the friend fukuzawa was cat sitting for
it’s been abt two weeks since ranpo and fukuzawa first met you and since then, they’ve seen lucky in the office plenty and the boxes of your signature sweets even more
if those two trust you, she has no reason not to
she smiles at you, holds out her hand for you to shake, and introduces herself as the doctor of the armed detective agency
your eyes widen and you smile back at her shaking her hand
“ah! you must be yosano-sensei then! ranpo-san and fukuzawa-san have talked about you! it’s so nice to meet you! im (l/n) (y/n)!”
“they’ve talked about you too, it’s a pleasure to finally meet you (y/n)”
after that exchange she insisted on bringing you home to treat you wounds which you told her it wasn’t necessary
she gave you a pointed look and that was when you realized what state you were in
you sighed and weakly gave in to which she only grinned at
before leaving the alley she walks over to the unconscious man and pulls out his wallet for some sort of identification and home address as you try to see if there’s any groceries still salvageable
after texting the details to kunikida, yosano turns to you poking around the now ruined grocery bags
she simply rubs your back and tells you that the both of you could go buy more groceries together as she was meaning to get some anyways; she even said she’ll pay for you
you refused obviously but she, unknowingly, used the same tactic fukuzawa used with you
“so you’re saying you don’t need groceries?”
“...”
*cue an eyebrow raise from our resident queen*
“...you agency members don’t like making things easy for me huh.”
you gave in reluctantly and at this point you don’t even know why you try negotiating with them
and that’s only three of them
apparently, she was on the other side of the street on the way to buy groceries for the agency when she noticed different produce items on the other sidewalk leading to the alley and she went to check out what happened
ironically, the way to the grocery store from the agency makes you go past Sakura’s but she didn’t realize it until after the two of you had met
before you know it, the two of you are in your apartment kitchen as she cleans and patches up all of your wounds
as she does so the two of you have a little girl talk
you find it quite comforting bc since you opened up Sakura’s you haven’t really had the chance to connect to many people much less other women
you definitely see yosano as your cool, loving, badass older sister
she thinks you’re adorable and agrees with ranpo’s opinion
yup
that’s right
the opinion that you’re like a little kid </3
you called it a betrayal and all she did was laugh at you <//3
“awhh that’s really cool yosano-sensei!—MFPH?!?”
*squishing your cheeks the same way ranpo did* “ranpo-san was right (n/n)-chan, your cheeks are squishy!”
“?!”
after that small fiasco, the two of you talked some more and bonded over your love for flowers, japanese sweets, and much more!!
you even made a date to have a girls day to go shopping and eat out!
you’re internally squealing a bit bc it’s been a while since you’ve gone shopping
yosano notices and she giggles behind her hand not saying anything bc she knows you’ll only throw a fit
the two of you came around the topic of ranpo when lucky passed by
lucky quickly warmed up to the doctor and cozied up in her lap
“i wish ranpo-san was able to meet lucky when he came by the first time, but then again, he’d probably throw a tantrum if i don’t pay attention to him for 5 seconds”
she snorted at that and like fukuzawa, she shared stories abt the slightly older male
“ranpo-san doesn’t know how to ride a train?”
“unbelievable right?”
“for someone so intelligent i expected more from him”
“i’ll be telling that to ranpo-san, (n/n)-chan”
“wha—?! yosano-sensei please don’t!”
like ranpo, she’s also a tease </3
but you love her anyway <3
eventually, she finished patching you up and promised to treat you to a new set of clothes when the two of you go out
“you don’t need to lose a good set of clothes just because of a sleazy man (n/n)-chan! you deserve better!”
you were going to argue that the rips in your clothes were fairly small and could easily be fixed—except the tights—but you stopped in your tracks when you remembered that it was practically useless to argue against an ada member
the two of you walked to the grocery store and bought both of your needed supplies—along with some extra goodies—and then she walked you back to your place bc it was already a bit dark out
but even if it wasn’t, she would walk you anyways
besides, if anything happened to you, she’s 1000% positive that ranpo and fukuzawa are gonna flip the fuck out not that she wont cause she most definitely will
speaking of which
you were drinking a bottle of water as the two of made your way back to Sakura’s when all of a sudden
“(y/n) you do realize that i have to tell shachou and ranpo-san about what happened today right?”
you choked on your water
“yosano-sensei you can’t! if you do they’ll freak! they won’t leave me alone for at least two weeks! one if im lucky!”
“exactly the point”
you just accepted your defeat already knowing that you’d lose
but maybe you can simmer down their anger towards the bastard with sweets and lucky
you arrived at Sakura’s shortly after and after bringing groceries in, you packaged a bunch of pastries leftover from today—bc you closed early—and bc you’re well aware that ranpo doesn’t share any of the sweets you send him with
you even gave yosano her own special box filled with goodies she loves, and a thermos of fukuzawa’s favorite, your special hot honey lemon tea
other than the sweets, you prepared lucky to spend the night at fukuzawa’s
you really really hoped that doing these things would make them calm down
you shivered at the thought of what their responses would be
you felt really bad for giving yosano all these things to carry and that you were keeping her very late
she assured you that she was fine and that if someone tried to mess with her she’d kick their ass
and after exchanging numbers, the magenta eyed queen bid you a good night and walked back to the agency with lucky walking by her heels
arriving back at the agency, yosano was greeted with some concerns asking if she was alright bc she came back from her grocery run pretty late
(she usually goes in the mornings but today was pretty busy so she left in the late afternoon but now it was already dark)
she waved off the concerns and plopped a couple boxes of your signature bakery boxes at ranpo’s desk, the one for her at her own, the last few boxes in the kitchen for any other agent or clerk to grab, placed the thermos on the desk fukuzawa was by, and picked up lucky and handed him to the president
the two males were pleased with what yosano had brought them, and pleased that another agency member had the chance to meet you
fukuzawa was rubbing lucky and ranpo already snacking on treats as yosano expected
but here comes the hard part
or maybe it’s gonna amusing who knows
“i met (y/n) today.”
“we could tell.”
in goes another treat in the green eyed man’s mouth
“would you like to know how?”
“you bumped into each other, had girl talk, made plans to go out, went grocery shopping, and you brought me and shachou presents.”
“great job ranpo-san, you’re almost completely correct.”
this caught the attention of basically everyone bc they knew ranpo was never “almost completely correct”
“we ended up meeting bc she got attacked on her way home from grocery shopping, i treated her wounds, then we had girl talk and did all the other stuff”
ranpo and fukuzawa froze right in their tracks
“i sent all the info of the bastard to kunikida”
“kunikida.”
“yes shachou”
“find out everything about that man and bring it to me and ranpo”
“...yes shachou”
“and yosano”
“yes?”
“text (y/n) and tell her that her cat, tea, and pastries aren’t going to work as a bribe”
just as you finished taking a shower you sneezed

The Inherent Romanticism of Headpats - Why Ship Dazatsu
I was scrolling through the dark corners of bsd tumblr and came across a few “Why I Ship (blank)” posts and thought I’d like to try and articulate my unending love for dazatsu in a similar fashion! Please note that I am in no way trying to steal the spotlight from other ships or trying to claim that dazatsu is “better” - it’s just my favorite and I wanna talk about them! Also, I physically cannot talk about them without a shipper’s bias - I’ve had them in my heart since like late 2016. This is ingrained into my spirit.
So, without further ado, let’s talk about why I ship dazatsu (and why you should too). yes i’m kidding about that last part.
warning for manga spoilers and headers that would make amazing fic titles. tag me if you use one. manga pictures taken from dazaiscans and easygoingscans.
1. The Promise to be Good
hehehe let’s start with maybe the most obvious one that is, arguably, the most canon fact about these two. Just because I choose to view it as romantic doesn’t mean it IS - but it is certainly a beautiful aspect of their relationship and yes it makes me soft every time I think about it.
We all know Dazai’s past and what inspired him to make the switch from the Port Mafia to the side that saves people - Odasaku. No matter what you say, it’s obvious that Oda and Dazai have a very close, meaningful relationship - and arguably, Odasaku had the biggest impact (and the most importance?) in Dazai’s life. When Oda told Dazai to leave the Port Mafia, to go make something beautiful with his life - he did. And it’s those words alone that keep him motivated to stay in his job and help protect the city - because he loves it, maybe, but because someone he loves urged him to.
Dazai, despite what his strange poetry may make you believe, is only human. As much as those words mean to him, he gets discouraged.
Along comes Atsushi, the starving tiger boy by the river. Atsushi is an orphan parallels to oda saving the orphans already, and he was in dire need of someone to save him. So, Dazai did. Whether it was because of the tiger or Odasaku’s last words, Dazai saved Atsushi and gave him life. He provided food, shelter, a means to provide for himself - even companionship. Everything Atsushi has, it started with Dazai picking him up off the riverbed and lugging him along. What’s more, Dazai didn’t just turn him over to somebody else - he presented a case to Fukuzawa to keep him and serves as his mentor. Further along in the canon story, he provides Atsushi with the emotional guidance that he needs (Portrait of a Father, anyone? Let’s cry over that for a second.) He doesn’t just give Atsushi a moment’s care - he helps him build himself up, he supports him, and together, they protect the people of Yokohama.
Atsushi is living, breathing proof that Dazai is living up to his promise to be a good man. Even better, he seems to be perfectly happy with confirming that yes, Dazai is good, whenever Dazai needs it.
In this way, they complete each other. They provide a source of comfort that nobody else has been able to. Atsushi is Dazai’s proof that he is doing the one thing he wants to do, more than anything - be what Odasaku wanted.
Tumblr media
2. You Saved Me, We Save Each Other
Keeping that in mind, Atsushi is sort of Dazai’s reward for being good. Now, I’m not implying Dazai is owed Atsushi at all - to an extent, you could argue Atsushi is maybe even too good for Dazai. But Dazai is trying to be a good man, and Atsushi is the one who tells him and reaffirms his efforts and gives him that praise, that recognition, that reward for being good. Dazai’s main inspiration to stay on the light(er) side is Odasaku - but that doesn’t mean that Atsushi can’t become another huge driving force that makes Dazai want to stay on that path. Oda motivates him, gives him the reason to start. Atsushi can be the prize that makes trying worth it when he tends to forget.
Atsushi saves Dazai. He saves him from his self-doubt, and from the world that gives him every reason to believe he has failed in his promise. If anything, that promise might be Dazai’s strongest lifeline. By reinforcing the line, Atsushi is saving Dazai.
And of course, Dazai saves Atsushi. He did literally save him by the river, and he helps teach Atsushi how to Not Die by virtue of being his mentor, but it’s more than that. Dazai has been the one to save Atsushi from his own mind time and time again. He provides a reason for Atsushi to believe he has (or is) earned/earning the right to live. Atsushi isn’t entirely over his desire to prove himself worthy - but Dazai is always the one to tell him that he has succeeded in his goal. Dazai is the one to say “You’ve proven yourself. You deserve the life you’re living.”
Tumblr media
3. You Learn Something New Every Day
As Atsushi’s mentor, Dazai naturally teaches Atsushi things. But beyond the simple strategic battlefield lessons, Dazai has been there for Atsushi multiple times to help him address and begin to overcome his trauma. Sure, some efforts are worse than the others (dazatsu stans just wipe our memories of the train station scene and that’s valid and sexy of us i think.) But in times when Atsushi is clearly distressed, Dazai has been there to help him through it. He’s helped Atsushi sort through his grief, and he’s helped Atsushi start to see that his feelings are valid and that he’s allowed to live a fulfilling life.
Atsushi isn’t the only one learning, though! That’s one of the best parts of the ship - Atsushi teaches Dazai, too. Dazai has spent a long time feeling as though nobody will understand him intimately, or as deeply as Odasaku did. But Atsushi is getting there. He’s one of the closest to it, I think. From saying things like Dazai is a good man, to picking up on Dazai’s feelings at Oda’s grave in Dead Apple, and even the end scene when Dazai asked Atsushi directly if he thought he was a good person and Atsushi said without hesitation “Sure, why?” Atsushi teaches Dazai that he is human. He teaches Dazai that he is capable of feeling and forming close, intimate connections. They help the other learn about the areas they need to, and in both cases, they’re becoming patient teachers and prized pupils.
Tumblr media
4. I’ll Listen When Nobody Else Will
Everybody knows how Dazai is often brushed off when talking about dying. People have brought up that the agency just has faith in his resilience, but that doesn’t meant that they aren’t acting without care towards Dazai. Atsushi does this too - in the very first episode, Dazai’s attempt at suicide is just taken with him being exasperated at his antics before pushing him down. But here’s the thing - it’s generally agreed upon that Atsushi is the one who is sent out to find Dazai. Atsushi is the one who knows where to find him. Arguably, Atsushi is the one that will listen to Dazai. He’s becoming the one who can not only pick apart Dazai’s mannerisms and slightest tells - he isn’t proficient, but he’s working on it - but he’s the one that treats them with care.
Tumblr media
I’ve spent a lot of time noting similarities between the understanding Atsushi has of Dazai to the understanding Dazai’s truest friend had to him. Here’s one thing that separates Oda from Atsushi, and for me, it’s one of the major reasons why I personally ship one more than the other: Odasaku didn’t push Dazai the way Atsushi does. Both Oda and Atsushi have a way of laying out a field for Dazai to talk and bounce his thoughts off of, no matter how cryptically they come out. But Atsushi asks questions, he prods at the darkest corners of Dazai and he allows Dazai to question himself so he can continue to grow. Where Oda gave Dazai a place to feel comfortable in where he was, Atsushi gives Dazai a space to feel comfortable as he grows, which is what he needs in order to continue being a good man.
And please note, this isn’t me saying dazatsu or Atsushi is better than odazai or Odasaku. What I mean to say is this is where the difference lies, and Atsushi gives Dazai what he needs now - something he might not have needed without Odasaku’s urging to leave.
5. Guiding Light
When two characters are each other’s north star, where is there not romance? Dazai is very much Atsushi’s main source of guidance, a side effect of being his mentor for sure - but it’s more than just asking questions. Their relationship runs deep into Atsushi’s train of thought, to the point where Atsushi hallucinates Dazai’s presence when he feels uncertain. Any time Atsushi needs guidance or reassurance, he looks to Dazai.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is more shipper goggle-y, but I like to believe Atsushi does the same for Dazai. I’ve said over and over again that above all else, Atsushi is Dazai’s proof that he is being good. I also like to think that Atsushi, in a way, is a ray of light for Dazai to follow. He’s selfless (although for some reasons that deserve to be readjusted), he’s kind, and he loves life - all life. He’s a sunbeam in action that provides a perfect example for what Dazai could be and is trying to be - and if this light is happy with keeping Dazai close, maybe there’s hope for him after all.
6. What Makes Life Worth Living
Atsushi and Dazai are opposites in once major aspect: Atsushi has a sort of reverence for life, whereas Dazai craves to escape it. These are two major points of their characters - but here’s the kicker. Dazai wants to get close to human emotion. He wants to understand what makes life worth living. Atsushi is quite possibly the strongest candidate to show him what he can do and how loving life can help. I’m not saying that Atsushi is Dazais’ fix-it-all elixir, but he has a good chance to gently prod at Dazai and get him thinking.
Atsushi can show Dazai what makes life worth living. And that’s something that I think would do Dazai a world of good.
7. Can I Change for the Better?
ATSUSHI! INSISTS! DAZAI! IS! GOOD! I will not ever diminish this point because it is so important! Dazai seems to have it in his head that his blood is mafia black, that he can play the charade of a good man but will never be more than an actor playing a part. Atsushi, though - Atsushi is constantly telling him that he is good. Atsushi, who probably couldn’t keep up a lie for that long because the poor boy has zero tact. Dazai even asks Atsushi frequently if he’s a good person, and Atsushi always says yes. Atsushi gives Dazai what he needs to hear.
Atsushi, however, has his own issues. He has his own trauma to tackle, and his own bad habits to reform to become a better person. Atsushi isn't’ a bad person, but he also isn’t the best version of himself. Dazai can help him become that. Dazai can give him the guidance he needs, as he did with sorting through his grief surrounding the headmaster. Dazai can help Atsushi start the battle against his past, and he has been there with him every step of the way, whether in body or spirit. They help each other be better.
Tumblr media
8. I Trust You With What I Love Most
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again - the toast they added to the end of season 3 is one of the most tender moments Dazai has ever had with anybody. One thing Dazai never does is let people in on his past - not past the necessary details, anyway, and especially not the intimate moments he holds in his heart. But sharing that toast with Atsushi - inviting him in to the toast he shared with Oda and Ango, “To the stray dogs,” - it’s one of his most vulnerable times on screen. I don’t care what you say. Dazai deliberately letting Atsushi in, giving him this tiny piece of his past he’s had tucked away in a safe place - that was him offering up a piece of his heart. I’m soft just thinking about it again.
Tumblr media
Other than that, Dazai has an enormous faith in Atsushi. He’s built entire plans trusting that Atsushi will do his job perfectly the way it needs to be done. Hell, towards the end of the Guild arc, it was his faith in Atsushi to bring the doll down to him that convinced Twain they were beat. Not to mention, Dazai has trusted Atsushi enough to form a new partnership without him in order to protect the city - and if that’s not one of the most blatant displays of trust and faith you’ve seen, I don’t know what is.
Tumblr media
9. There’s a Softness Within Me I Didn’t Know I Had
Another thing that’s good for Dazai - Atsushi is comfortable. Dazai can let his guard down, just a tiny bit, around Atsushi, There was the graveyard scene in Dead Apple, or the toast scene at the end of season 3 - those are moments where Atsushi has given himself a moment to relax and show Atsushi how proud he is. This kind of emotion, this vulnerability that says ‘I’ve been hoping you’d pull through and look at how amazing you’ve become’ - there’s a softness that holds that Dazai doesn’t hold for anybody else. It’s a gentleness or pride, of trust, of somebody becoming more than you could ever imagine and coming back to you, even thanking you - it’s a sensation nobody else has given Dazai, because nobody else has been a protege as trustworthy and gentle as Atsushi.
Tumblr media
(and, believe me, there’s a hundred other examples of the softness in the anime, manga, official art, and so much more. here’s a thread that you can still add to if you want)
Atsushi is also soft with Dazai. He wants to make him proud, sure, but there isn’t any fear once their job is done. Atsushi doesn’t have to fear horrible repercussions if he makes one misstep - Dazai allows him to learn, to grow, and to feel however he seems fit (or, it’s a skill he’s improving at as the series goes on.)
Tumblr media
They give each other a safety to feel vulnerable. They are comfortable to each other. And, of course, they have a special softness for the other that they do not hold for anybody else.
10. My Mistakes are the Cracks You Have a Knack for Fixing
Again, Atsushi is always there to reassure Dazai that he can be a good man. One part of this is that he insist that Dazai’s past doesn’t have to affect his future. He’s one of the only people who tells Dazai that he doesn’t hold him accountable for what he’s done before - he’s Dazai-san now, and that’s what matters to Atsushi. Atsushi gives Dazai the most space to fix these mistakes, to move past them, and to learn from them, not holding them against him at all.
In the same way Atsushi is Dazai’s proof that he’s being a good man, he is also Dazai’s proof that he can fix the mistakes he made. (Of course, I’m not excusing the way he strings anybody along - but the first step to fixing a mistake is admitting you have made one and working on yourself, and that’s what Atsushi allows him to do.)
Tumblr media
In conclusion, I think Dazatsu is so soft and amazing because it’s about the healing and acceptance. BSD is all about gray morality, and dazatsu is a soft ship that can take each other’s bad and accept them. It’s not only about seeing the darkest side of somebody - it’s about accepting those flaws but also giving them space to grow. They grow and they learn and they heal together. They ensure that the other never has to go through a drastic change alone. In a way, they can be home for the other, a refuge from the shitty cards life has dealt them and a steady lifeline to reach for a better tomorrow. That’s why I love dazatsu - because I can’t see another situation with nearly as much love and trust as they have. They are tender, they can be vulnerable, and they can heal.
Like the beautiful sunset hours the met in, they celebrated in, they console each other in, they allow the other to turn the page on their past and start anew, with a clean canvas for a dazzling display that they can make together.

Second half of what was going to be just one post but I wanted to make each point stand out on its own-
I think that the Port Mafia is going through a character development arc throughout the manga, just the same as the ADA is, and by the time the series ends will be almost unrecognisable from the mafia we started out with.
Funnily enough, the first person who springs to my mind when I think of this is actually Kouyou. Though I will touch on others later on.
Kouyou is certainly not the first PM member we meet. Strictly speaking, that’d be Dazai, or Higuchi, or Akutagawa. But I feel like her change is the most indicative of the route the mafia is taking, and the difference between the pre-manga PM, and the PM after the manga started, and after several arcs. In fact, this is also something I tend to try and think about when writing her in fics, because it is highly relevant.
Chronologically, we know that her timeline is thus; she was part of the mafia in the time before Mori took over, and under the old boss she wanted to run away, likely encouraged by an older man who she may have had feelings for, romantic or not. That man died, and left her feeling that no matter what, she would be unable to escape the darkness. At some time after that, Mori took over the mafia. A year later, she was one of his trusted subordinates, and she is tasked with taking a young Chuuya - previously an enemy of the mafia, and someone who had no idea how to talk to the mafia’s business partners - under her wing. She would go on to become an executive, and at some time before the manga began, found and took in Kyouka. She would then go on to be murderously protective of her young ward, much like a mother or older sister, and encourage her to believe as she had - that she would never be able to live in the light.
So what we see from this is that Kouyou up until this point is a woman with a dark past and a dark heart who is full of grief, and I think that a lot of people overlook this because she’s beautiful and because the way she is later is more popular, but... she is just as guilty of perpetuating the cycle of abuse as Mori, Dazai, and Akutagawa. She was imparting to Kyouka the same “life lessons” that she had learned herself, in much the same way that Atsushi’s headmaster had. Both of those people had suffered, and so both of them taught their charge in a way that they saw as somewhat more forgiving than what they had gone through, in a way that to them would ready the child for the outside world and their future, but was ultimately doing more harm than good.
So, what changes?
I’d say that to answer “Dazai” is to over-simplify things.
The situation had become such that it was no longer viable. Kyouka refused to go back to the mafia. Kouyou was afraid for her, that she would lose herself in some way, and despite her previous words to Atsushi, she did want Kyouka to succeed; or at the very least, saw how a failure would break her, as we see it does while she’s in the jail plane, chained up in midair. Their organisations are not just at odds, but as an executive she’d have to be seeing that neither of them are in a safe position.
Kouyou was already in the perfect place to accept Dazai’s suggestions before he came to her with them (and, admittedly, he may have predicted that things would get to this point, may have used the situation to his advantage).
So, what changes the way that she sees things?
Dazai is one aspect. A rather large one, considering how he himself puts that he managed to get out of the mafia, and is someone with his sort of past (and personality) who not only made it out, but has been staying out, and succeeding. He also points out that with him present in the ADA, he’s able to ensure that Kyouka can flourish in the way that she deserves to.
Atsushi is another aspect, I’d say, because he was the one who was willing to suggest that their organisations work together.
Even just staying with the ADA and not being treated with anything other than respect (and yes, that includes “respect for how dangerous she can be”) would work towards this.
In summary, Kouyou before the Three Company Conflict arc is a grief-ridden woman filled with despair, who sees herself as someone only capable of showing her true potential in the darkness. She comes out of said arc as someone who appears happy with where she is, and who chooses to be where she is, yet who is also happy to help Kyouka from the shadows.
This is just focusing on the one I feel is the best representation of this phenomenon of PM members coming out better.
Another would have to be Chuuya, which is something that many people have written about, myself included, on how before the manga starts he’s bitter over Dazai’s defection, seeing that trust in his partner as having been shattered. Yet over the course of their first reunion, he is forced to see that his partnership with Dazai need not be over simply because Dazai is now a traitor to the mafia, and that Dazai, well, missed him. As a person. That the connection is still there. And later, during the Lovecraft battle, they work together fluidly again, just like old times and reminding them that just because they’re older, doesn’t mean they’re too much different to still be partners. You can really see it in Dead Apple, where his acceptance of Dazai is less in how willingly he trusts in him and activates Corruption, and more in how comfortable he is after he’s woken up again both in the movie when he sees Akutagawa, and in the promo images where he’s still next to Dazai, and they’re smiling.
Akutagawa needs almost no explanation, given how his arc is still ongoing, and he’s already gone from being the rabid dog of the mafia who kills before he thinks to someone who goes out of his way to leave people alive, and who because of that, is learning to see things from another point of view, just as Dazai wanted of him.
Yet, it’s not just these obvious ones; Higuchi has to work with the ADA on several occasions, tempering down on her novice’s pride in her organisation that she had on her introduction, and is also coming into her own as well. Kajii may well have taken something from his encounter with Yosano, and we see how he’s more than just a mad lemon scientist when he says how much he respects Mori (and I wonder if anything else is going to happen with that). Hirotsu is now able to talk with Dazai again and it isn’t something that he would have to worry about being seen as treasonous.
And last but not least, Mori himself - when it’s said during his match against Fukuzawa that they’ve both got more to protect now, that’s not just cheap words; Mori protects his people. He shows grief when his people die and it was out of his control. He accepts that an alliance with the ADA is the best and most optimal course when it’s put on the table, even with the understanding that it’ll put them at a disadvantage in the short term. He is forced to begin to come to terms with things about his past that he had been trying to rationalise, and ignore, such as how his actions led to Dazai’s defection, and I sincerely believe that although he does not regret what he did, he does regret how it ended, and what it cost him.
Mori, the leader of the mafia, is being forced in the current arc  to come face to face with the realisation that the mafia can’t live as an island, merely taking from the ADA what they need and giving nothing in return. It is Mori’s lack of action that led to things becoming as bad as they are now, and because of that, his own people are suffering. I’ve said this before to personal friends, but I do think that this is indicative of the mafia’s growth as a group - Mori needs to learn that the alliance with the ADA has to be an equal one.
What’s more, the ADA is learning through their own growth in general that they have to be able to trust the PM in return.
What does this say to me?
Other than that the characters of the mafia have been influenced positively by the plot, into becoming better versions of themselves, and the development is still in progress because the series isn’t over? That you can’t write them the way they are now, into a fic set years before the series starts?
That the themes of BSD are such that the PM represent the underside of society, a cruel and callous way of thinking that we often don’t wish people to see, or that we cover up. That even the ADA, on the twilight of the law, is still more often than not too proud to accept the help of criminals who are less ashamed and more forward about the way that they do things being criminal. That both sides are slowly moving down the path of being able to accept one another better, and in doing so, they’ll better be able to accept themselves.
We already see this with Kouyou and Akutagawa and Chuuya especially. We see this with Dazai, and to a degree with Kyouka. I believe that the longer the series goes in this direction, the more other ADA characters will accept themselves; such as Tanizaki, with his ability to use his ability in ways that Hirotsu notes are “perfect for assassination,” and with Ranpo, who hides the fact that he has insecurities and is also fully willing to make a demon of himself in order to protect his own - which is far more of a mafia attitude than an ADA one, even if, just like with Chuuya, I’m not sure I can imagine him in the other organisation.
The ADA will always be the ADA, and the PM will always be the PM, but together they can be better than they were before on their own. Currently they seem to be on a tentative truce of sorts, uncertain about doing things together and constantly in a state of tension. If they can get to a point where they trust each other more implicitly, that’s where the real strength is going to come from - something that Mori saw himself, when sending Chuuya out to help Dazai - and yet it won’t just be in the sense of power and how well they perform in their casework and missions, but strength of character, in who they are as people.

Pairing : Ranpo x Fem!Reader
A/N : WE BACK AT IT WITH THE SUPER SAD SHIT AND BY WE I MEAN ME! ITS SAD TIME! BIG SAD TIME! Ranpo deserves betters, yes I know, but I just want to make him sad. I’m sorry <3
T/W : Pregnancy ; Murder ; Torture ; Kidnapping ; Blood ; Gore ; Angst
Angstember Day 11
Tumblr media
Every day with Ranpo was the highlight of your life. He was sweeter than the candy he snacked on, he treated you like an absolute queen, and every queen needed her king and he was just that. He would do anything for you, he protected you with everything he had, he absolutely adored you. You worked at the Agency alongside him, an ability user yourself. You were able basically predict the future, but only ten seconds ahead. Everyone called you the Agency Forecaster, as you were able to tell them what someones next move will be, you were an asset to the Agency. When you got pregnant, Ranpo had wanted you to lay off Agency work, deeming it too dangerous for you and the baby, but you loved your job, you loved helping the Agency, and that would be your downfall.
Tumblr media
Six months into your pregnancy and you were still able to conceal it well enough that everyone at the Agency had no clue. Your clothing was a little baggier but not by much, nothing that was noticeable by the members, and you had went from wearing heels to flats. The baby bump wasn’t much, and although it worried you in the beginning, the doctors had said that everyone’s body was different, and yours just decided to not show as much, but the baby was healthy and okay, and that’s all that mattered to you and Ranpo.
“I don’t know why you won’t tell anyone about him. Most people would be excited to announce their pregnancy.” Ranpo began the usual conversation that you always had over breakfast. He was always trying to talk you out of going into work, but you were persistent.
“Of course I’m excited, but you and I both know that if I tell them, they’ll ask me to sit out on cases. I love my job, and... they need me.” You explained, watching his reaction to what you said. He couldn’t argue with what you said, he never could. He knew how much everyone there needed you, but it still worried him. He rolled his eyes and shook his head, defeated by your logic. You reached across the table and grabbed his hand, brushing your thumb across his knuckles. “You know very well that my ability isn’t combative. I won’t get hurt.”
He nodded, but he still wasn’t comfortable, every second that you were in the office he was on edge. Every time you had to go out on a case, he was a nervous wreck. You always came back unscathed, unharmed, not a scratch on you. You were thoroughly protected at all times, you were just as important to the Agency as Yosano was. It wasn’t just you that he had to worry about now though, you had a child, his child.
Work started just like any other day. Ranpo and you walked into the office, hand in hand, his other hand was carrying a box of sweets to get him through the day. “Ah, Y/L/N! You, Atsushi, and I have a mission to go on today!” Dazai called from the other side of the office, waving to you as if his voice hadn’t gotten your attention enough. Ranpo’s hand squeezed yours tightly, he obviously wasn’t ready for you to go out so early in the day. He hadn’t had enough time to prepare himself to deal with the anxiety it caused.
“What kind of mission is it?” Ranpo asked, his hand no longer in yours, instead it was wrapped around your waist, pulling you to his desk so he could set down his sweets and sit comfortably with you next to him while he listened to Dazai explain the specifics.
“Oh, it’s just some crap with the Mafia. They want to talk about something, they wanted me to bring Atsushi, so I’m sure it’s something about handing him over or there will be a fight. Y/N will be able to let us know if they’re planning on something. Don’t worry though, everything will be fine.” Dazai said it so nonchalant, but Ranpo was losing it over just the thought of you being near anyone from the Port Mafia.
“I can do that. I’m sure everything will be fine.” You reassured Ranpo, turning to kiss his cheek. He had you sitting on his lap, and at this point, no one in the office was phased by you sitting there anymore. They would be more shocked if you weren’t sitting on his lap honestly.
He wrapped his arms tighter around you, hiding his face in your back. He mumbled against the back of your shirt, the vibrations from his voice and the warmth of his breath seeping through the fabric of your shirt sent shivers up your spine. “I don’t like this, cinnamon bun. It’s not safe.”
“We don’t have a lot of time. We have to get going.” Dazai said, noticing the way Ranpo held you tighter. “Y/N will be okay, Ranpo. Atsushi and I won’t let anything happen to her.” He walked over to pat Ranpo’s shoulder, you felt his breath hot against your skin again as he sighed, but his arms loosened from around you.
“Be careful.” He murmured, casually rubbing his hand over your stomach. The baby kicked against his touch causing you to giggle slightly. You leaned over to kiss him quickly before getting up from his lap, walking with Dazai and Atsushi out the office door.
The three of you got to the Mafia building, the boys both stared at you, their way of silently asking if anything was going to happen. You quickly shook your head no, giving them the nod that as of right now and ten seconds into the future, everything would be okay.
Dazai led the way in and you followed close behind while Atsushi stayed behind you. You felt safe with the two of them, knowing Atsushi’s ability and Dazai’s natural charm and the way he was able to sweet talk, you were sure that you were safe and you would be able to go back to the office and be with Ranpo rather quickly. Nothing would go wrong, at least, that’s what you thought.
Tumblr media
The boys ran into the office, both their faces filled with worry and fear as their eyes scanned the office for Ranpo. He was already standing, staring at the door expectantly, waiting for you to walk in behind them. It took him a second to fully register the looks on their faces, that’s when his stomach sank and he had to fight the urge to puke right then and there.
“I’m sorry Ranpo-san.” Atsushi muttered, bowing in Ranpo’s direction. What did he mean sorry? Had something already happened to you? Were you dead? You couldn’t be, he couldn’t lose you and his son. That couldn’t be the case. You were still alive, he could still feel it, like your hearts were beating as one, and yours was still hammering in your chest. He still had time.
“You left her! Why would you leave her!?” Ranpo screamed, his voice reaching an octave unheard by anyone else in the room. They all turned to face him, his distress and obvious desperation all had them standing from their chairs.
“Ranpo, calm down. She’s fine. She’ll be fine.” Yosano attempted to reassure him, but he only shook his head, walking past her to stand in front of Dazai. His height didn’t deter Ranpo, instead he craned his neck, his emerald eyes meeting Dazais brown irises.
“You know I didn’t mean for anything to happen to her Ranpo. They took her while Atsushi and I were distracted. I didn’t think that it would turn to this.” Dazai pleaded with Ranpo, it was a first, his usual cocky attitude seemed to have disappeared under Ranpos glare.
“I told you not to take her. It’s too dangerous, and like always, I was right. Now, take me to her.” Ranpo ordered, but everyone’s attention was diverted when Fukuzawa stepped out into the main office.
“Everyone goes. We make sure to bring Y/N back safe.” His voice was powerful, almost hypnotic as he spoke. There would be no disapproval, no hesitation.
“Thank you, sir.” Ranpo bowed to the President before turning back to Dazai. “Lets go.”
                                                ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You sat on the concrete floor, your back against the concrete wall. The entire room was bare aside from the shackles and chains hanging from the walls, the same shackles and chains that they had used to bound you there. You hadn’t struggled, you knew it wasn’t safe for you to do so. The baby hadn’t stopped moving since you had been captured, but you tried your best to hide it and not react to his movements.
“Your ability is far more useful than the were-tigers. They’re all foolish to not see that. I’ve only known of two other people with an ability like yours, they’re both dead, but not even they were able to see as far as you do.” Chuuya paced back and forth in front of you, his hands behind his back, he rarely ever looked at you, but when he did his eyes were like daggers. “Why waste such a useful ability on the Agency. You’d get paid well here.”
“It’s not about money. I want to help people. I want to save people. I don’t belong here.” You tried to speak calmly, you didn’t want him to know you were scared, it would only give him more power.
“That’s what I don’t understand about you and your people. You never actually save people. All the people you say you save, they’re already dead. Most of the time you can’t even bring those people justice without killing someone else in the process. The Agencies body count is higher than ours, but we’re the evil ones?” Chuuya knelt down in front of you, his face was smug, arrogant, his eyes squinted as he stared at you. “You’re no better than us, and we’re no more worse than you.”
You heard the voice of another man calling from down the stairs, the sounds of explosions going off over top of you. “What’s happening?” You asked, trying to pull your hands out of the shackles.
“Looks like the cavalry has arrived to try to save you. Don’t worry, they won’t get down here.” He patted your head before getting on his feet and walking towards the stairs. “Come down and watch her. If anyone gets through, you know what to do.”
                                             ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The group powered through the guards at the doors, Ranpo was flanked on all sides by everyone trying to get him through. Dazai knew exactly where you would be at, he was in charge of leading the way.
“I swear, Dazai, if she’s hurt...” Ranpo growled. No one had ever seen his so angry, so distraught. He rarely cried, and although he was doing his best to hide it at the moment, everyone could see how glossy his eyes were, he was holding it all in the best he could, but he was about to burst.
“She’ll be alright, Ranpo. You have to trust us, we’re gonna get her back.” Yosano murmured, her voice soft as she spoke to him. She only ever used that tone with him, it was almost motherly the way she tried to console him.
They moved deeper into the building, taking down everyone they came across. It was mainly guards at this point, everyone knew that they would be saving the worst for last. “Right over there! Come on!” Dazai called out, pointing to an elevator at the end of the hallway.
The group piled onto the elevator, Dazai pushed to button to take them down, knowing all too well where you were being kept. “This is too easy... They’re waiting for us, aren’t they?” Atsushi asked, but he knew the answer, just as everyone else did. They were all ready though, they would power through anyone to get to you.
“You all showed up, now that really is something. How much is she worth to you?” Chuuya asked sarcastically. He was leaning against the wall next to the stairs that led down to you, his arms folded across his chest. Hearing him say that made Ranpo want to charge, but he knew he had to hold back, just long enough to get down those stairs. You would be there waiting for him, he would save you, he would bring you back home where you belonged.
“The members of my Agency are priceless, not one is worth more than the other. We just want to bring her back safe. I’m sure you wouldn’t want any harm to come to the young woman.” Fukuzawa, always the peace keeper said, his voice calm as he eyed Chuuya. Everyone was on the ready though, ready to charge, ready to attack, ready to kill just to get to you.
Chuuya chuckled, shaking his head. “I wouldn’t harm her, of course not. I’m not that kind of person. There is however, one person here who could care less.” He turned to look at Dazai, one eyebrow raised, his fingers tapping against his arm. “You know who I’m talking about, don’t you?”
“Akutagawa...” Ranpo and Atsushi turned to Dazai as he said the name. Everyone knew who he was, and now they knew how much danger you were really in. “If anything happens to her-”
“Yeah, yeah. Spare me the speech. I’m not here to stop you. I’m here to watch him tear you all to shreds.” He moved away from the stairs, extending his arm down the staircase to let everyone through. “Have fun.”
Ranpo didn’t wait a second before pushing through everyone that had surrounded him, racing down the stairs. They all called after him, begging him to stop, but he didn’t listen, he didn’t want to stop. He wanted to pull you into his arms, he wanted to shield you, protect you with himself.
The second his feet hit the landing at the bottom of the stairs, Akutagawa had the chains undone, cutting through them effortlessly with Rashamon. You screamed at the sharp dark black masses that entangled you, pulling you up off the floor and close to Akutagawa. Ranpo didn’t move any closer, watching as a blade of the mass trailed across your torso, he watched your body quiver with fear as your eyes locked.
“A pitiful attempt of a rescue, honestly, I feel kind of bad. Of all the people to send down first, they send you?” Akutagawa almost growled with disgust, like he was disappointed in the lack of fighting that would ensue. “Although... I don’t feel quite that bad...” Akutagawa didn’t smile, there was no hint of malevolence, his face was as straight as ever as he plunged the blade of Rashamon through your chest.
Your scream was cut off almost instantly, the only sound was the gurgling of blood building up in your lungs as you attempted to breathe. It wasn’t enough though, it was never enough. The blade dragged down, the sound of skin and muscles being torn through filled Ranpos ears, as if the volume was turned up to the highest level. He watched on in both shock and horror as you were practically gutted right in front of him.
The blood pooled at his feet, there was so much, it splashed against the soles of his shoes as Akutagawa dropped your body to the ground. The other members of the Agency had been standing on the stairs behind Ranpo, they watched it happen just as he had. The anger that emanated from each and every one of them was palpable, it could have been cut with a knife, it was thick and it hung in the air like a storm cloud.
Akutagawa coughed, staring up at Dazai on the stairs. “I’ve done good, wouldn’t you think? Spare no one, show no mercy, just like you.” He rolled your body over with his shoe, wrinkling his nose in disgust as he looked down at your body. “Two for one.”
Ranpos eyes grazed over your abdomen that had been swollen with his growing son just this morning, now cut open, the torn muscles and tissues exposing your uterus that was also slashed open. He fell to the floor, his knees splashing the blood, droplets flying up and landing on his face, his shirt, his coat. He crawled over to where your body lay, he saw his son in your womb, small, not fully developed, but he had ten tiny fingers and ten tiny toes, his nose like a button, perfect and round, curled up in a ball with his thumb in his mouth. He finally screamed, screeched, slamming his palms down into the pool of blood that surrounded him and you.
Akutagawa started walking away as Dazai, Kunikida, Tanizaki and Atsushi tried to pull Ranpo away from your body. He stopped on the stairs next to Fukuzawa, looking him in the eye as he spoke. “I’ll let Mori know to prepare for a fight.” He didn’t wait for Fukuzawa’s response before continuing up the stairs, a trail of bloody footsteps stained the floor where he walked.
“No! No no no no no!” Ranpo fought everyone off, pushing them away as he held onto your carcass. “I can’t leave them. I can’t! I won’t! Let me go!” His screams sounded more like cries. They were choppy, choked off, high pitched, the cries of a broken man, a man who had lost everything in one fell swoop. He had nothing, he was nothing if not with you. Life had gone dark for him, there was no light at the end of the tunnel, only darkness, a darkness that suffocated and blinded him. He would never escape the darkness that was now his life, it would only continue to consume him until he was just an image, no longer the man he used to be. He would never go back to being that man, not without you, not when you were the one who made him the man that he was.

Atsushi and Akutagawa’s reaction to finding out their sister is dating their rival
aide-mémoire: Atsushi and Akutagawa’s reaction to their sister revealing to them she’s dating their ‘rival.’ You can find the Dazai and Chuuya version here, and the Mori and Fukuzawa version here.
Tumblr media
Atsushi is alarmed and has so many questions... chief among them why? How? What do you even see in him? Are you being blackmailed into going along with this? (Blink twice if Akutagawa forced you into it.) Is this a cry for help? A rebellious phase? Are you punishing him for being a bad brother? (He’ll do better, he swears.)
Please explain this to him because he's lost, upset, and frankly—a little pissed. Not at you, of course. He couldn’t dream of it. But he’s thrown off by the situation enough to be angry, because to him... it doesn’t add up.
The possibility his sister would choose to associate with someone like Akutagawa is unfathomable to him. In his head, he’s sure you’ve been forced or manipulated, and he’s not the least bit afraid to confront Akutagawa personally on the matter, for your sake.
It's probably going to take a while of convincing before he accepts you're dating Akutagawa of your own volition, and that it's not some convoluted scheme you’ve been forced into against your will. While he doesn’t discount the likelihood of you getting your feelings hurt, above all, Atsushi is worried about your physical safety. His past experiences with Akutagawa have made him come to question whether the former realizes they can be more than a glorified executioner.
He does not trust Akutagawa as far as he can throw him, which, considering his were-tiger powers, is quite far. Nor is he fully convinced that Akutagawa has the capacity to be a loving, dedicated partner, or the kind of partner his sister deserves.
He's terrified Akutagawa has bad intentions, and even if you make a genuine effort to prove him incorrect in this assumption, Atsushi isn't going to be easily convinced. He values you, doesn't want you to get hurt, and the consideration he may not be able to fully protect you in this situation makes him severely anxious.
He wants you to be happy and would hate to make you feel like he doesn’t trust your judgement, but he can’t help telling you to stop seeing Akutagawa, insisting he isn’t someone you can trust.
If you continue to persist in seeing Akutagawa, he struggles to get firm on it—because surely, he’s got a huge soft spot for you as his sister, but he figures you being alive is well worth you being mad at him, even if you refuse to speak with him (though believe me: making you upset is something that very much breaks his heart.)
In the end, he’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on you at all times — regardless of if you want him to or are aware he’s doing it, absolutely ready to jump in and protect you should anything look suspicious.
If Akutagawa can show through consistent actions that he cares for you, will always ensure your protection, and perhaps, above all, has developed past some of his more murderous inclinations, Atsushi might come to better accept your relationship and be less on edge about the dynamic. He's probably always going to be a little suspicious and stressed out by your choice in a significant other.
Tumblr media
If possible, Akutagawa's hatred for Atsushi has just earned interest. He's not a fan of the pairing, and cycles through a lot of less-than-pleasant emotions. Having his sister date his rival sparks some feelings of loss and jealousy in him, adding up to yet another way he feels Atsushi seems to always have things better in his favor.
There’s a bit of an ego issue at play here: Akutagawa views Atsushi as a direct obstacle to the acknowledgement he dearly wants to receive, and now Atsushi has yet again usurped the ‘seal of approval’ from yet another person in his life.
Akutagawa is going to be a little icy with his sister. Expect him to express a general lack of understanding on why you’ve chosen to date who you’ve chosen, mixed with hostility.
Akutagawa isn’t overprotective, nor the type of person to care much of who a sibling dates, but your choice absolutely irks him, and he possesses no desire to hide this fact from you. He’s going to be very verbal in disparaging your taste in a boyfriend.
The news makes the seldom humane Akutagawa all the more short tempered and aggressive (a moment of silence for any of the Port Mafia’s enemies he ‘deals with’ during this period).
He also feels more compelled to start a fight with your boyfriend, though isn’t going to fully make the connection that the reason he wants to kill Atsushi more than usual is because now he knows you two are dating. Yes, he thinks about it, but he’s got a host of reasons for finding Atsushi bothersome, and isn’t going to settle on the fact his own feelings towards his sister influenced them.
Keep these two as far apart as possible. Don’t even let them stand on the same street unless you want copious amounts of proper damage. Both have a tendency to irritate each other on a normal basis, and the fact Akutagawa knows you're both together only increases his general irritability and inability to be around the other.
He doesn’t feel like the dynamic you share with Atsushi affects his. He feels just as apt to mow him down as he did before, perhaps even more so. Hearing that you’ve chosen to date Atsushi does not improve his dislike or give him a more favorable opinion of him.
Though, contrary to the fact he can come across as emotionally impenetrable at times, he does recognize that Atsushi is treating you well and some part of him deep deep down (we're talking very deep ladies and gents) appreciates it. He's not the most loving or empathetic brother, but a part of him, even if he doesn’t fully acknowledge it, is pleased to see you content. He just has a visceral reaction to the fact it's Atsushi.
Just don’t expect him to stop seeing Atsushi as his enemy. Or verbally express approval by wishing either of you well. He will never fully approve of the relationship, but his salt levels do diminish with time and... character development. Though his complicated dynamic with Atsushi is unlikely to change for the better based on this alone.

AAAHHH I LOVE YOU TOO!!! Thank you for the ability, may it forever work in tandem with my meds. But anyways- Yes, Lucy is Amazing and she deserves more focus and also the ability to Vibe Check Dazai as she feels is needed. Also!!! That’s exACTLY what I was thinking with the dancing, he doesn’t care that Atsushi has never danced or that it’s the middle of the night, he just likes spending time with Atsushi and making memories and falling in love. (Nyanon, 1/4)
Which is so much more valuable than an experienced dance partner, to him? He’d chose Atsushi and their kitchen on a full moon over a random dance expert in a lavish ballroom any day,, I love them so much, it’s like you said- Atsushi and Dazai are a comfort ship for me and something about them and thinking about them being Domestic Boyfriends while they just cuddle in bed is,, So nice,,, It’s What They Deserve. (Nyanon, 2/4)
(And! No problem, I understand the pain of forgetting to do stuff (or forgetting that you already did something) far too much, it’d be mean to judge you for it. I’m glad you’re doing better, though! That’s always nice to hear.) Anyways, that sounds. Exactly like them. And I’m torn on who’d be better at faking it, because Dazai is,, Dazai, and Kyouka has Demon Snow. But I also feel that Kunikida would be a dark horse and be Very Good at scaring the hell out of everyone you know??? (Nyanon, 3/4)
I mean, his ability would definitely help, he can make Almost Anything. Moving on to another thing, though- An AU Concept, actually, since a really cute Dazatsu idea came to mind and I Had To Share: Photography student!Dazai and his model-muse!Atsushi, who is Very Flustered over the cute guy who keeps insisting that he be the model in his pictures? Aren’t there prettier people??? Dazai, meanwhile, is Head Over Heels but he doesn’t know how to Actually ask out his lovely muse. (Nyanon, 4/4)
“he just likes falling in love” it’s ok. u can say you want me murdered. you can confess that you murdered me. it’s fine. no its okay. break it. ITS FINE BR  EA KIT-
hmmm i feel like kunikida would be very subtle in his pranks at the office, that kinda creepy and eerie feeling?? he would make someone get that and then B A M, some sort of scare (he would probably use it as revenge for if they slacked off at work or were asses, or just as a way for him to destress and have Fun. i love him.) dazai and kyouka would be too obvious, anyone would know it’s them because.,,,while their pranks are Scary-ish it’s still obvious it’s them. especially when they end up giggling about it the next day
(also i bet there would be a time where dazai and kunikida end up working together to scare anyone thats left in the office, not that they wanted to, it just happened and theyre Not happy about it that much. but they do it and they manage to scare whoever it was- by the very startled high pitched squeak makes them think it was kyouka, yosano, kenji or maybe atsushi that was their victim. only to see it was fukuzawa. they swear theyll never tell anyone about this)
I B E T dazai was out up in one of the trees of campus, just trying to snap some shots. and akutagawa is his “subordinate” (but instead it’s just dazai being a shit mentor but amazing photographer that akutagawa admires, but akutagawa is D O N E with dazai because he always does risky things and runs off without any explanation and akutagawa always gotta catch up) and telling him to get down from the tree, but to no avail, so instead he also starts snapping some shots
dazai with his Mighty Camera spots chuuya and is like “hehe lets get an ugly pic of him to print out” and as he zooms out he spots atsushi beside chuuya and is like H M ?? whos TH A T. and atsushi then Laughs, and dazai just loses footing and falls down from the tree because woa. that was the most beautiful person hes ever S E E N.
akutagawa: dazai are you okay do you need to go to the hospital w- dazai: who akutagawa: what dazai, pointing aggressively to where chuuya is with atsushi: W H O akutagawa: oh thats atsushi, hes in my english lit class dazai, whos sad he didnt get a photo of atsushi: i want him. Now akutagawa, scared for his classmate: u h oka-
and thus dazai just approaches atsushi and is like “LET ME PHOTOGRAPH YOU N O W .”
