Defendants

ANSWER

The defendants deny each and every allegation of the complainant except as follows:

The defendant Martin Luther King, Jr. and members of his staff were invited by local ministers to participate in a march held on March 28, 1967. Said march was held under the supervision of local ministers and the responsibility for planning and supervision to maintain order did not rest with these defendants.

The defendant King at the urgent request of local

march leaders did leave the scene of disorder. At the same time, local leaders made immediate and successful efforts to turn the march back.

The defendants have organized and conducted in many communities utilizing the principals of non-violence numerous marches, none of which have resulted in civil disturbance. The defendants are not presently and have never been engaged in any conspiracies as alleged in the complaint. Defendants have in no way in their private or public statements sponsored, fermented, encouraged and incited riots, mobs or breaches of the peace as alleged in the complaint.

Defendants further state that they have never refused to furnish information concerning marches or plans as such information became available; that in fact said information has been furnished on a continuing basis to local law enforcement officers; that there is no statute or ordinance requiring the issuance of a parade or march permit by police authorities. However, to the extent that there is any custom or practice of submitting plans for parades or marches to police officials for discussion and review, the defendants have and will continue to do so as soon as practical after said plans have been made.

The defendants utilizing their experience have undertaken the following general steps to insure that the march will be non-violent and under control at all times. Limitations will be placed on the number of marchers in each line; parade marshals will be carefully selected and given training in their duties; liaison will be maintained with local law enforcement officers

and the necessary protection and assistance will be requested; all groups in the community have been contacted to insure the parties in the march will participate on a non-violent basis; a route has been tentatively selected, together with tentative starting and ending times for the march and other necessary organizational steps have been and are continuing to be taken to insure a peaceful march. Steps have further been taken to prohibit the use of signs affixed to sticks or any other object which might be utilized in an improper manner.

Defendant, Martin Luther King, Jr., further states that he has on numerous other occasions received threats or been informed of threats received by others concerning his personal safety; that while all due precautions have been taken, there have been no difficulties encountered as a result of such threats.

Defendants respectfully request that the application for injunction should be denied or in the alternative that the Court permit the march to be held under such reasonable restrictions as may be necessary giving due regard to the defendants and their First Amendment rights.

Many stories about Saint Anthony’s temptation and torture by Satan were recorded in a biography written in Greek around 360 AD by Athanasius of Alexandria. In one quotable passage, the tempter tells the saint: "I am called the spirit of lust. How many have I deceived who wished to live soberly, how many are the chaste whom by my incitements I have over-persuaded! I am he on account of whom also the prophet reproves those who have fallen, saying Hosea 4:12, You have been caused to err by the spirit of whoredom. For by me they have been tripped up. I am he who have so often troubled you.”

Today In History

The first Selma to Montgomery march began on Sunday, March 7, led by SNCC chairman John Lewis and the Reverend Hosea Williams of SCLC.

Predating the march, Reverend C.T. Vivian led a peaceful march to the courthouse in Marion, Alabama on February 18, 1965, to protest the arrest of DCVL member James Orange. On the way to the courthouse, Alabama state troopers attacked the marchers, shooting Jimmie Lee Jackson in the process. Jackson died eight days later, prompting James Bevel of SCLC to call for a march from Selma to Montgomery to speak with Governor George Wallace about Jimmie Lee Jackson’s death.

The march proceeded without any interruptions until the protesters arrived at the Edmund Pettus Bridge where they were met with violence by Alabama law enforcement officials. Amelia Boynton was beaten unconscious. John Lewis suffered a skull fracture from the attack, and later mentioned he thought he was going to die that day. After this terrifying ordeal was over, more than 60 marchers would be injured. This day would become known as “Bloody Sunday.”

Our little eel show wasn't eligible this year, HOWEVER many of our EXCEEDINGLY TALENTED cast, crew and chorus are indeed among the nominees, so let us encourage you to vote for them and the shows they are in:

Fay Roberts who plays our terribly respectable Principal Adept Weaverllyn has been nominated for zir delightful performance as noted Scots snail enthusiast William Henry Baker Blair in the nautical adventure Trice Forgotten.

The multitalented William who gave voice to gruff eeler Aberford Tackmansworth is up for a battery of awards for @TheHallowoods, writing, recurring voices (oh, so many recurring voices), music direction, sound design, and that ohso spooky art, as well as Elder Hosea in OGOA.

Rissa Montañez, who is perhaps a little too into eels as Senior Adept Lacehill, when she isn't serving the finest goth looks, is nominated for her role as exceedingly efficient Quartermaster Val Narváez in Moonbase Theta, Out.

Another audiodrama powerhouse Tal Minear plays Carrick Boater who's seen something nasty in the seawater. They are nominated for all of the R.E. Dracula things, new show sound design, art, music, direction and also for a recurring voice in Moonbase Theta, Out.

Mark Nixon one of our cat-loving Captains Helmswell, is nominated in the Direction category for Shadows at the Door: Season 3 is ambitious and star-studded with some incredibly thought-provoking stories and well worth a listen.

David "Voice Acting Career Now Old Enough to Legally Own a Business In Several Countries" Ault probably needs no introduction: he's up for new guest voice Dr, (possibly Mr if Surgeon) Clayton in Ethics Town, guest voice the accidentally blasphemous bible printer Robert Barker in the Amelia Project, and recurring roles as Lan in Among the Stacks and Arthur Holmwood, Lord Godalming [Tearful Edition] in R.E. Dracula.

(Incidentally, we welcome newcomer Abraham "Bram" Stoker to the AVA nominations, presumably the RE Drac crew have become adept at necromancy to pull this off. Stephen, I know you take your dramaturgy seriously, but this seems a little too method…)

Derrick Valen, provider of some powerful bass harmonies in our Anguilliform chorus is up for * checks notes * Gnoming it up with the October's Children crew as a guest voice in Strong Branching out. Delightful.

And last but not remotely least, Rhys Lawton, who appears as the Scrimchantry's dour school nurse and medical lecturer Acaster Selvage is nominated for his new recurring voice role as philosophical wet catboy January Johnson in Ethics Town, and also for a guest voice in * flicks over next page of notes * "The Secret of St Kilda play Something Muppets in the State of Denmark". Kudos to Strong Branching Out for some truly quality episode names…

Backstory:

Growing up in England and living the high life in London, Rachel Williams is the only daughter of a famous businessman and rich family. She grew up well educated, having the ability to speak in English, French & Spanish. Her family owned another estate in Spain, as her uncle produced wine at his Villa.

While growing up she also played the violin in a regular basis, the gang also loves hearing her play the violonm

Rachel spent most of her childhood in England and in Spain, despite being a woman and her father and mother being old fashioned - She learnt the ways of the business, should she need to take over one day.

When Rachel was 10 years old in 1888 the family business fell apart, and her mother, father, and herself went on a boat to live a new life in America. They lived in the outskirts of Blackwater, later that year when the family was out travelling. Her father got blackmailed and was sentenced to be hanged.

Her mother went missing and nowhere to be found - Since Rachel's uncle was still in Spain, Rachel ran away after her father was hanged. She spent the next couple of years on her own, fighting, hunting, and surviving.

Rachel soon found out that her mother hand took her own life, heartbroken by the fact that her husband was hanged.

In 1895, when Rachel was 17 years old, Rachel got captured by the O'driscoll boys as she had been snooping around their camp, they torted her thinking she was apart of the Van Der Linde Gang. Barely escaping with her life, and with her sanity still in tact..

Later that year Dutch and Hosea encountered Rachel in West Elizabeth. Rachel made the attempt to Rob both Dutch and Hoesa, but Dutch admired her bravery, and he took her in the gang. Rachel was the second in command under Arthur Morgan.

Both Dutch and Hosea treated Rachel as if she were their own daughter, cherishing her.

Rachel became family to the gang, all the while forgetting her past that was quickly catching up with her...
