How to Kill a God needs beta readers for draft 3!

It’s been eight years since the death of renowned explorer Indigo Haze. It seems like everyone in the world has has made peace with his passing. Everyone except for 18 year old Allister Haze, who clings to his father’s journal to keep his memory alive. Grief has trapped him inside a comfortable bubble, and he isn’t willing to look beyond it to see how it’s causing more harm than it is good.

That’s when the journal goes missing at the hands of his twin brother Preston, who only wishes Allister would look to the future instead of living in the past and longing for what could’ve been.

Allister, distressed by his brother’s betrayal, uses this as an opportunity to exact revenge upon him by uncovering a secret Preston has been dangling underneath his nose. This launches the boys into a series of bloody betrayals, each one growing more vile than the last.

How far will they go to destroy each other? Could this be the end of their relationship, or is there a way for them to unite and become brothers once more?

Genre: A contemporary literary fiction with high drama and elements of a thriller. Upper ya/na. Underlying flavor of fantasy/spirituality.

CW: Death, grief, some smoking, drinking, strong language, depression, and therapy.

Point of View: First person, present tense, lightly stream of consciousness.

Includes: A bit of found family, a childhood friends to lovers slow burn, secrets, betrayals, wrestling with religious beliefs, horse racing, brotherly love and the bond of twins, a dramatic male protagonist with a plethora of colorful emotions, and much more!

Length: 240k words

29. What songs would be (or are) on a playlist for [insert fic]? Explain your choices if you want! I'm so bad with fic playlists you have no idea- but two songs that I associate with the fic are Shakin' Off The Rust by The Blue Stones for vibes (and it was going to be the title at first), and Empire & the Sun by The Moth & The Flame which doesn't really fit the vibe of the fic but that's the only song I know from them, and it's where I got my title from

39. Is any aspect of your writing process inspired by other writers or people? If so, who? one thing that's definitely helped me with my writing process is the Sprinto bot (love you Sprinto bot <3) which was introduced to me by @/artielotl over a year ago! :D

The world is ending.

Oh, it’s ending, but wouldn’t you look at it? It’s gorgeous even in its final moments. The flowers—the beautiful flowers—they bloom. Flourish, even. The children, they play contentedly within or outside of their homes—they are blessed to be the oblivious ones, unknowing to what is unfolding around them. And therefore, this makes them happy. Joyous.

The adults sit inside, fearing, glued to their television screens or the cellphones or any other device which shows the news. “FLOWERS ARE BLOOMING IN ANTARCTICA” the headlines read. People used to find that interesting, perhaps even happy about it—what gorgeous flowers, they thought!

But it’s not just about the flowers.

As the flowers blossom after years of slumber whilst trapped within ice, so do…other, less delicate and pretty things. Inside the ice rests a slew of ancient diseases, parasites, and everything horrible one could think of.

And humanity has no resistance to any of it.

“NEW DISEASE,” The headlines read. “IT CHANGES THE ENTIRETY OF SOMEONE’S BODY.”

And it does. A lot of them do. That’s what Life intended, when they made those diseases and parasites and more. Life had a plan—one which no one but the deity themself would understand. Those horrible things which had been locked away in ice for centuries would emerge and eradicate humanity.

The animals, the plants, they would all be alright. And the chosen ones—more commonly known as the Sacrifices—they will be the only remaining “humans”. They will survive and make this world…perfect.

Some things about Arianna

My girl’s a little traumatized even though she’s very very silly <3

she’s known to have occasional anger outbursts and can get very violent very quickly

very devoted to one of the gods—Maan. Also fun fact: Maan actually helped raise her after her father died (Maan was very close with Ari’s family, Ari’s dad was a brilliant mind and Maan assisted him)

she lovessss Jules. Like loves loves. But they have a girlfriend so she’s not gonna go after them. (Except some things happen at the end of the story 👀)

kinda has a flirty personality. Also super sarcastic and usually laidback/easygoing. Unless, y’know, she gets really upset or smth.

has a pet cat named Loki!
