#I am still having fun reading this overall but yeah the show is better
Text
This may not make sense but I feel like show!Hickey is an evil person who just happens to be gay and book!Hickey is just literally evil gay guy stereotype. And then Dan Simmons realized the implications of that and added in Bridgens and Peglar to be the normal gay people.

Hi! Sorry I don’t know if you’re still taking requests but if you are, can I request a male!vigilante!Y/N. he’s likes 13-15 (younger than Tim but a older than Damian). He’s a orphan and been the infamous vigilante who goes by Jinx. He’s like super duper smart and knows martial arts and overall a total badass. The bat family has been trying to catch him for a couple of months now since he’s been like stealing their missions. Y/N just finished stopping a drug dealing near the docks. He’s about to leave when night wing and Robin (Damian) jump in front of him. They fight and robin kicks him in the ocean, knocking him out. When nightwing sees he’s not coming back, he goes and rescues him. So like they take him back to the bat cave and they put him in a cell and interrogate him, they find out he’s just a kid, a orphan and knows their secret identities (cause like I said, he’s super smart) Bruce decides to adopt the kid saying something like that it’s ether being adopted or going to jail. And Y/N and Damian aren’t happy about but have no choice and yeah that’s it. Sorry if it’s complicated or long
I am taking requests and it's not complicated, don't worry. It's a fun idea too. Another Tim lol. Damian really won't be happy. Also I wrote this in a day, a new record for me.
Summary: (Y/N), aka, Jinx is a vigilante that gets in Batman's way. Batman wants to get him.
Warnings: mentions of violence, forced adoption, smart (Y/N)
I couldn't find a better gif, sorry.
Tumblr media
(Y/N) sneaked out of the building. He put on his mask and went to work. Today on the list was Black Mask and the Penguin. Black Mask had a drug deal and the Penguin had his weapons. It took a few days to track down those weapons.
Drugs were very easy to track. It's not difficult when you know all of Black Mask's hideouts and locations. The best part about Black Mask is that all of the hideouts are owned by the same alias that never changes.
He jumped from the ledge, landing on a random balcony. He moved yet again. He didn't have much time on his hands today too. If he wanted to intercept the guns, he would need to hurry.
He thought about Batman and the sidekicks. Will they show up today too? Maybe they will, so screw that, they will show up. It's Batman, that man knows everything that happens in this city. And it would be very fun to see their faces get annoyed.
It was always of fun to see their faces turn from stoic into annoyance. And they always tried to catch him, but they couldn't. It always made him laugh whenever they tried to do that.
They never could.
(Y/N) jumped down from the roof, using a rope to get down into the building. Black Mask was in the front, talking to a nobody drug leader about his drugs. He already called the GCPD, anonymously of course.
He got behind a crate and knocked out a bodyguard. Nobody heard him and he moved behind a crate, where he could clearly see Black Mask and the drug dealer.
He read Black Widow from a comic and he was inspired by her Widow's bites so he made that on his own suit. He made bracelets that held those bites, but he would have to rename them.
He put his arms up and he aimed the two men. He fired and the two feel down, cramping from the electricity. (Y/N) smiled at that, moving from his hiding spot. He restrained the two and started climbing up to get out.
He doesn't need to talk to the police. He nearly fell back down however, because Batman and his sidekicks were here.
Well, this is awkward.
" Evening guys. " (Y/N) said, waving awkwardly then them.
" Jinx. " Batman said and Red Hood moved closer to look through the glass window.
" Is that Black Mask? " Hood asked, pointing at the window.
" Could be. " Jinx said.
" You need to stop taking our missions. " Batman said, making (Y/N) smirk.
" Mhmm, I don't think I will stop. " Jinx said, raising his hands up.
" You can't act on your own. " Batman said.
" That's rather hypocritical of you, considering that that's how you started. "
He could see a clenched jaw from Batman. Bingo.
" Okay, well, this was a nice chat, but I have more stuff to do. See you later. " He said, running, seeing that Robin was ready to get him. Once again he used his bites. He even managed to get Batman.
He can die happily now, knowing he took Batman down, even for a moment.
He didn't stop running for a long while. He took a break for a few moments, before he remembered the guns deal that the Penguin had. Why tonight?
" Bruce, I swear to God, if I find Jinx, I will kill him. " Jason said, taking his helmet off.
Damian agreed from the sidelines. He was going to kill him in the worst ways possible.
" Guys, we are not going to kill him. " Bruce said, taking his cowl off.
" No, you will not adopt him! " Jason yelled out. That adoption won't happen.
" Father, if you adopt him, I will lose my mind. " Damian said.
Tim didn't know what to think about Jinx. It looked like he was smart and seemed to know enough martial arts to go by in Gotham.
They could use him on the team. But if he was anything like Damian, he was going to lose it.
" I don't have anything against the adoption, but if he is anything like Damian, say goodbye to my sanity. " Tim said, going upstairs, not wanting to listen anymore.
The others left too, not wanting to continue this painful conversation.
Bruce stayed, pulling up Jinx's profile. How can they catch him? He sighed, closing his eyes. It wasn't going to be easy. He was smart and it was going to be a pain in the ass to catch him.
Jinx stood in the warehouse, thankful for the fact that the Bats and the others weren't here. Just like with the Black Mask, he restrained the guys and he was about to walk out and call the police, but just as he stepped out, Robin and Nightwing jumped in front of him.
" Hey guys, I just finished this drug deal and I would like to go, so... " Jinx said, fixing his bracelets.
" I'm afraid not. Batman wants to talk to you. " Nightwing said, taking his batons.
" Well, I can't really say that I want to talk to him. He looks scary. " Jinx said, eyeing Robin. And it was good thing he did eye Robin. Robin jumped at him, making (Y/N) sidestep. Robin regained his balance and went right back at attacking him.
Robin was quick, going for the weak spots that the human body had. (Y/N) was forced to defend rather then attack. Nightwing watched from the side, clearly impressed with the fact that Jinx could stand with Damian.
There is definitely more than meets in the eye when it domes to Jinx.
Damian saw an opening and kicked Jinx in the stomach, making him fall into the ocean. Nightwing stood by, ready to get him, but when Jinx just floated up, clearly knocked out.
Nightwing jumped in, telling Damian to pull him up. Damian did so, letting Jinx lay down on the cold pavement. Dick got out of the cold water, shivering slightly.
" Come on, lets get him to the cave. " Nightwing said, picking the teen up. Damian called the Batmobile up. It was going to be an interesting talk.
(Y/N) opened his eyes, not expecting to find himself in a cave. And he never saw such a big computer. He wished he had that one. He sat up, noticing the lack of his suit and he reached up to find his mask. There wasn't anything.
He sighed, his face finally revealed. He stood up, walking up to the glass doors. Well, it wasn't really glass, more so a mix of plastic and glass.
No way out of here.
" Good to see you up Jinx. Or do you prefer (Y/N)? " Batman said, in a full suit. That made (Y/N) chuckle.
" Do you prefer Bruce or Batman? Also, your suit is nice from up close like this. " (Y/N) said, smirking at the shock that went through Bruce.
" How do you know? " Bruce said, taking his cowl off. There was no point in keeping the cowl on if he knows.
" That's for myself and my brain to know. " (Y/N) said, crossing his arms.
" I take great precautions to not let people know. " Bruce said, face now passive and neutral.
" Do you really want to know? " (Y/N) asked, happy to have some sort of leverage over the almighty Batman.
" Yes. "
" It has to do with your kids. Anytime you adopt somebody, there is a new vigilante. " (Y/N) explained, acting as if it was simple deduction.
Bruce's face still looked neutral, but inside he was both impressed and scared for his identity. There was a handful of people who knew his identity and those people would never tell.
" So, can I go? I have to go investigate the Penguin. " (Y/N) asked, pointing at the door.
" I'm afraid you can't go. I have more questions for you. "
(Y/N) sighed, " Fire away. "
" How long have you been acting like Jinx? "
" It's going to be 5 years next month. "
" How come I didn't notice that you were a teen? And where are you parents? "
" I made sure that my suit made me look like an adult and my parents are dead. " (Y/N) said dryly. " Is that all? Can I go? "
" Well, you have two options. First one is adoption where you stay with me. You have a roof under your head and a place to improve your suit. I like the bracelets. "
(Y/N) frowned, not liking the first option.
" I assume, I'm not going to like the second option either. "
" Second one is jail. "
And there it was. He saw the other birds, clearly not happy that (Y/N) was going to get adopted.
" I don't think that your birds want me here. " (Y/N) noted.
" Three of them don't live here. Only Robin lives here. And they got over it, so one day you two will tolerate one another. "
(Y/N) gave Damian a single look, laughing slightly.
" Trust me, Damian and I will never tolerate each other. " (Y/N) said, sitting back down in the cell.
" Based on my experience, you will. Give it time. "
(Y/N) shook his head. No matter how much time has passed, they won't get along. Why was his life like this?

Okay so I slept on it and uhm
I still don’t know what to say about this animated short. Crucabena, the clash, Scaramouche in his oversized jacket
But I think I’ll do the things that definitely stuck out to me and probably seeing things that aren’t there.
1. Crucabena and the Lumidouce Bells
So, when Arlecchino confronts Crucabena she’s in front of two dead or dying Lumidouce bells. She says she should’ve pruned the flower long ago instead of waiting for it to already show signs of decay before finally pruning it. When your prune your flowers you’re trying to control their size and shape, optimize its blooms, and to get rid of any diseased, dead, or dying parts that can’t be saved. However, her plant is already beyond saving since whatever she should’ve pruned to keep the flower alive has already taken over the rest of the flower. So of course these flowers probably represent Arlecchino. How Crucabena should’ve reigned in her child long before she finally rebelled. The choice of flower though is fun, we’ve been told time and time again that this flower is supposed to represent parting and the wish for reunion. This could represent their inevitable parting, but I’m more partial to the idea that the two blooms represent Peruere and Clervie. I mean two Lumidoce bells both dying, flowers that represent parting and the wish for reunion. The 4.6 preview page with her on it, the 4.6 trailer saying Father is looking for someone. Yeah…
Tumblr media
2. The implication of ‘Father’ as a title.
So… using a title that contradicts someone who has caused pain your life because you don’t want to be associated with them ever again and you strive to be better than they ever were. Yeah…
Being serious though, other than the fact that she might not want to be associated with someone like Crucabena, the title Father we already know comes with very different implications, and now that we know Crucabena was called Mother I think I can safely come to the conclusion that the term Father also represents an entirely different role, not just the same role under a different name. After all, in the very end Arlecchino uses the terms ‘strict’ and ‘unfeeling’. Which whilst we know Crucabena was brutal, in the beginning she’s reading them a story book and is overall showing happiness, contentment, and then ‘concern’ over where Peruere was. Her role whilst being someone we should stomp into the dirt was filled with emotion, but that emotion and care is fake. It was only used as a weapon against her, and a weapon against her family. So now, as Father she is hiding whatever she feels probably because she thinks showing how much she cares would only hurt the orphans under her care, especially since if this is the case her feelings and her actions would directly contradict each other and would only confuse the children.
You care about them but you make them do all these horrible things? It’s probably the same dilemma Peruere went through, you care and yet here I am experiencing pain that you caused. On this note, something a little smaller…
Tumblr media
3. Peruere becoming Arlecchino.
This will be shorter as there’s not much to say, but she was arrested clearly when they found out she killed Crucabena, a harbinger. However then the Tsaritsa pardons her crimes and takes her into the Fatui. Now, this is important to me because I think we can conclude that Peruere didn’t want to become a harbinger, that wasn’t her goal, she didn’t want to become the exact same person Crucabena was and now here she is getting bestowed her title and I can only assume her name too. Just as Pierro says “This title and its legacy of bloodshed are now yours to bear, my poor, mad, cursed Knave.” The only thing I can say is this was certainly the beginning of the end for our poor Knave.
Tumblr media
I have more but I lost most of it
Either way I hope Freminet calls Arlecchino out on how she’s starting to behave like Crucabena in a few ways. Let my man scream, he deserves it bro.

Loss and comfort.
Characters: scout.
Warnings: Loss, grieving, reader not taking care of themselves.
Not a warning, but S/O gets nonverbal when they are sad.
note: hii
This is an update, so if you're an active follower of mine, please read before continuing on. This month, my mental health and overall well being has not been the best. I know I keep taking breaks, but unfortunately, these said breaks are necessary. I just lost my cats, and I'm coping as best I can. Please be patient with what I write, and I hope you all enjoy it.
Scenario: You've recently lost somebody close to you, and you're still sortve processing everything. You've been in your room all day, not eating or taking care of yourself overall, and scout decides to check up on you.
♡Scout♡
• When you two are out in the field, usually he'd like to show off to you, because you would always compliment or even make fun of him a bit, but today, you were so quiet.
• all you'd give him was a simple nod, a small smile, or just a thumbs up while you continued on your battle.
• so his first thought was that he did something wrong, and after the battle, he wanted to go and talk to you, but the moment the battle was done you hurried off to your room.
• something was definitely wrong, and he thought it was something he'd do, or have said that day.
• he was still thinking about what to do, so he sorta just...waited for you to come out instead of coming to you, probably still thinking about what to ask, or say.
• but you never did.
He'd walk by your room, ask if anybody had seen you, but you never once stepped out of your room. Not even to eat, or to do anything at all. It was like you were never there.
• so, he came over to your room, plate of dinner in hand as he knocked gently.
"Yo babe, you in there? Ya didn't come out for dinner, so I saved you a plate."
After he heard some shuffling, there you were.
• his face dropped, noticing your tear stained face, nose red and puffy, presumably from crying.
"Oh shit, what happened?"
And right when he asked, you started to cry again.
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
• after some time, you'd finally calm down from your crying, slowly eating the eggs engie had cooked for dinner. He sat next to you on your bed, worried eyes focused on your face.
• "You...wanna talk about it?"
You nodded a "no" quickly, and continued eating more. He simply said "okay" and let you eat your food in silence. He didn't know what to do, or what to say, you weren't saying anything either.
"Was it something I said?" You nodded another "no".
• though after a bit, you placed the food on your desk nearby, got a piece of paper, and wrote something to him. The paper read;
I don't talk when I'm upset. That's just how I am. I don't want to talk about it right now, but thank you for being here. It's not anything that you did, but I'm just not ready to tell you yet. I'm sorry.
He read, relieved it wasn't about him, but worried about what had made you so upset, you stopped taking care of yourself.
"...do you want to be alone? Or do you want me to stay?" He asked, looking up at you with bright eyes. You contemplated for a bit, but you wrote,
I'd like to be alone. Is that okay?
"Totally, don't even worry about it babe." He smiled softly at you, he gave you a pat on the back before he continued,
"No matter what it is your upset about, I'll always be here for ya, okay? Nothin' will be too much for the both of us ta handle, and I know your a strong, badass person."
He smiled wider when he saw you smile too, "I love ya babe," He leaned to give you a kiss on your forehead, "I love you so much."
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
• The next morning, when he saw you he immediately went over to you.
"How are you baby? Feelin' better?" He asked, a spark of joy in his eyes, just happy to see you were able to get out of bed.
"Yeah, thanks for asking Jeremy. You really helped a lot last night."
You two spent the day together, having fun and battling like usual, and when you calmed down, you decided that it's better to tell him what happened then to keep it in.
So, you sat him down in your room.
"My...friend passed away. It was a week ago but, I had just heard about it yesterday. I didn't know how to...feel about it. I mean or course I'm sad but, I just can believe it you know? I can't believe that they're gone..." You sighed, "And I can't believe I can't see em anymore. I won't talk to them anymore, we won't hang our anymore and I won't be able to see them ever again...it hurts you know?"
He felt his heart drop, oh god, how sorry he felt for you. Tears fell from your eyes as you vented to him, heart beating fast as you remembered all the things you did with them. It hurts to see them go you know?
When you were done, he didn't know what to say, but he pulled you in for the tightest, yet friendliest hug you've ever had in your life. He gripped your chest, letting you cry into his shoulder.
"I'm so sorry."
You sobbed into him, and it felt like you did so for an eternity. Yet with his shirt now soaked, he didn't even move out of that tight embrace once. Didn't even consider it.
"Dying sucks so bad. It feels like...when your with them it's jus' You guys against the world! I get it, but life can be a piece a' shit and ruin it all." He said, "I know ya cared for em, you really loved them too, and they mustve loved you just as much..."
He pulls away to look at you, eyes determined to make you feel better.
"It feels like...the world won. They took somebody from you, and that's so ass." He struggled to find the right words but he continued anyways, "But that doesn't mean you should give up. Wherever your friend is, I'm sure they're still there, havin' fun and lookin' after ya."
You chuckle through your tears, a bitterness reverberating in your chest when you say, "That's so damn cliche.." He nods, "Yeah, but...that doesn't mean it's wrong."
"It's okay to cry, it's okay to...break down and think life is shit. But I want you to know that it won't always be like this. Life is one big party babe, it's good, then bad, good again, then maybe bad again. It's crazy! But...somehow, in the bad, we always get back up on our feet."
He smiled, "And I know you will too. It might take you a while to move on, or even think of them without cryin', but I wantcha' to know that it's alright...these things take time man, it doesn't take a second to just suddenly be happy again, and that's okay."
"When life gives you lemons, you cut them up and squirt lemon juice all over life's eyes! Because, your strong, and fuck life for fuckin' you up!"
You laughed, making him smile wider.
"Wow, this is kind of out of character for you. Didn't know you were so good at this stuff, Jer."
He blushed, and laughed, "Hell yeah, I AM good at this stuff. How'd you just notice that? Wow babe, you don't pay attention to me." He scoffed dramatically, placing a hand to his heart all offended. You roll your eyes, "Oh shut up."
"...thank you though, for all this...your a good listener, and a surprisingly good therapist too."
He simply smirked at that, "Yer welcome babe, if you want a shoulder to cry on, or somebody to talk to, yer boyfriend is here for ya!"
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
rushed the ending because I stopped crying when I wrote this haha!! this was sortve just me writing myself advice so that I could cope better with loss LMFAOOO

So I broke down and read the available issues of the Skybound comics. (I’ll buy vol. 1 when it comes out, I feel really bad pirating things that are coming out but what the FUCK are kindle prices?)
Thoughts!
Yeah I’m not one of those people who enjoys trying to make silly things “gritty”. At its core Transformers are children’s playthings and trying to make them serious is, like, really mate? Also I do have a hard time enjoying things where it’s like “Hah! Anyone could die at any time!” Because to me that’s just a reason to not bother caring about anyone. Also I just, do not care about GI Joe.
That said I do really like it so far! For one thing the art is spectacular. And for another I… am actually curious where it’s going. I do kinda like the smaller cast and more desperate feeling of the series. I like not having Megatron in it to start (if at all? He’ll probably be back but I do like the idea of a series where he never shows up but his presence is felt) I… I somehow kind of care about the humans??? This never friggin’ happens.
And while I’m not a fan of subversions for subversion’s sake… I do think killing Bumblebee and having his usual space in the story taken by Cliffjumper is kind of great.
Obviously the two main robot characterizations are Optimus and Starscream soooo
Optimus Prime…
Tumblr media
Crying, sobbing and throwing up he’s PERFECT. They did him SO well. This really is the essence of the character. The paragon. The leader you understand why everyone would follow. The kind of person who makes you believe in good. I’m so scared he’s gonna die.
And Starscream, who is taking the opportunity of a series without Megs or a PG rating to utterly let loose. Took me a bit to adjust but kind of having fun with it, and it does track. Even in issue 1 complaining and declaring himself leader (albeit he has a better claim to the latter here) but also getting to kill two Autobots and pop Carly’s dad like a grape because he could. Really nailed the violent power-hungry four-year-old deal he’s got going for him. Also kinda satisfying after how dull the ES version was I’m sorry.
Overall I do hope this is a shorter series though, feel like it could drag rather easily. And while personally I still think it’s dumb to try and take a bunch of toys and make it gritty… I can deal with one I guess. We’ll see how it goes.

Hi Vox! I saw your post mentioning your sickness and I hope you're feeling better! If it’s any consolation, I've been sick as hell too. Misery loves company right? This is werewolf anon, BTW.
So now that I'm more on top of the JJK story, I read another JJK fic of yours. It's the one where Gojo gets released from the prison realm into the future but a 1000 years in. I must admit I saw the tags/summary and thought "Ahhh yeahhhh all 20 fingers assembled!". And I was getting ready for some filthy imaginative smut by you...and it DEFINITELY had that...BUT I WASN'T READY FOR THE FEELS???
Because I legitimately cried!!! You left the ending open enough that it could go a few different routes but you just captured the utter bleak loneliness that Yuuji had been enduring and what a monumental shift it was for Gojo to show up. I finished the fic and had to hug my pillow because it got me so emotional. So yeah, thanks again for destroying me lol!
I'm glad my silly Yuuji meme edit gave you a laugh!
Also now that I know Steve is your fav, I see your Stucky fics in a whole new light. Not in a bad way! Just more like "Ah ha! I totally get why these lines of Bucky talking about Steve hits so hard." I'm so sorry that Endgame did us dirty and it undermined your fandom. My personal fav is Bucky and I basically live in my La La Land where "canon" can kiss my ass. Especially because the MCU seems determined to keep character assassinating Steve and derailing Bucky.
For JJK, I still like Gojo the best so the manga events are DEVASTATING. But I've gotten pretty good at ignoring canon (No thanks to Marvel) so I'm gonna keep trucking on loving Gojo.
Also fucking random question but you're the only one I talk about JJK...do you think I should spell their names Yuji/Yuuji or Gojo/Gojou?
Stay hydrated!
Werewolf anon! I didn't see this ask until now. Didn't check my notifs for a day or so while sick, and the app is glitchy as hell with numbers. Opened the desktop and saw that shiny "1." As always, it's good to hear from you!
A sad high five for the sickness 😔 I hope you're feeling better now though.
And won't lie, I'm slightly evilly gleeful that serpent tongue got you in the feels. It was my first JJK fic—don't ask me why I chose that mindfuck of a premise to figure out the characters and dynamics—and I did intend for it to pretty much just filthy imaginative smut (thank you btw 💗) with a four-armed Yuuji, but well, you saw what the bulk of the story became. As far as first fics in a fandom go, it's one I'm very happy with, especially the ending. It's very, very gratifying to hear that it affected you enough to make you cry.
(If it's any consolation, this fic is the "kinder" continuation of it, now with 200% more porn. They're not in a series because they're both standalone works, and the second fic is one of two possible spiritual sequels, but still, it's overall less bleak compared to the first fic.)
Haha, that's very interesting to me tbh. I'm not subtle about my favoritism, though the way it manifests varies (the only constant is that they get hole lmao), and I'm always curious how readers—especially those with differing but complementary tastes—perceive it.
And you have very good taste! I adore both Bucky and Gojou too, and they're a hell of a lot of fun as characters. Props to you for the enviable ability to tell canon to suck it and keep going 💪 Stay strong.
As for the names, Yuuji/Yuji/Yūji and Gojou/Gojo/Gojō are all accepted romanizations, so pick your favorite. Personally, I prefer Yuuji and Gojo, but I am anal about internal consistency, so I use Yuuji and Gojou—plus Getou, Yuuta, Shouko, etc. The only exceptions I make are for Chōsō and Tōdō because Chousou and Toudou make my eyes bleed.

A Walk Through My Year in Media
This isn't necessarily things that came out this year, but rather things that I watched/read this year that I liked or compulsively consumed regardless of whether or not I liked them.
2023 in Films
Most of this post is going to be positivity; a sampling platter of things I've enjoyed this year. But also:
Salty Film Hot Takes:
The French Connection is uncomfortable to watch. I don't care about the racist, antisemitic, misogynist cop. He's objectively bad at his job make him go away.
None of the Next Generation era trek movies are good.
Guardians 4 would have been a better movie if Pratt wasn't in it. And I mean that in a "the script would be better structured" way.
Se7en is a really fun film and I'm not mad to have rewatched it recently but... it's undermined by 1) the writers not realising that John Doe's opinions are bog standard right wing talk radio shit, 2) the fact that they kind of agree with him and 3) they clearly, hilariously, don't know what lawyers do.
The Mummy (2017) is awful. I guess that's not controversial but still.
Robin Hood (2018) is also awful. Like, amazingly so. And, slightly warmer take, so is Prince of Thieves you guys.
I will not be answering questions on any of the above.
Positive Film Hot takes:
I went on a bit of an 80s dark fantasy kick this year. Out of films that I hadn't seen before, The Dark Crystal and The Last Unicorn really stood out. Especially the Dark Crystal. I ended up rewatching the show as well. Just so good. Bring it back. Justice for the gelflings.
I also watched a lot of Terry Gilliam this year - not all of his back catalogue but most of it. Obviously Jabberwocky is almost entirely bad, no one needs to be told, but overall yeah you get why he's beloved. The common vibe from his films is "wow there's so much to love here but it doesn't quite work". Brazil is an obvious standout - it's a classic for a reason. But I want to highlight The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. Behind the scenes disaster and orientalist opening sequence aside, it really is spectatular. The sets, the details. It's so well crafted and just makes you wish they made films like this all the time. Damn you, Terry.
The 1938 Robin Hood film is the best Robin Hood film. Yes, congratulations, you noticed another theme in the shit I've watched this year. But yes, it's great, it's fun and well paced. It holds up staggeringly well. I also watched The Court Jester (1955 - with Danny Kaye and Angela Lansbury) - Also surprisingly great.
Finally, also feeling medieval, I watched Excalibur (1981). This is more "swords and sorcery" than "dark fantasy" (think: Conan the Barbarian vibes), but it's kinda great (most of the genre is not, lbr). It captures the logic of those stories, the vibes of the mythology very well, the mix of pagan and early christian beliefs, and the weird metaphysics that results. It's great. Way better than that dumb clive owen one. My lord that was bad.

It's good. I don't think anyone needs me to tell them that. Still haven't finished it but enjoying it in a peaceful, fandom-free way.
Robin Hood (2006)
This was a terrible show, with an even worse third and final series. Did I rewatch the whole thing anyway? Yes I did. Should I have? No. (I love the first two so much though. Lily Allen's dad as the sheriff of Nottingham as tony blair? sign me up.)
Doctor Who
Am I a basic bitch who only came back to who because RTD did? Yes. But at least I'm not quite as basic as the ones who were only back for Tennant. The first one was good, if a little on the nose, the second was great, the third was good up until they get onto the stupid avengers platform for the showdown, from which point me and everyone in the room just got mad at it. The christmas special was fun though, excited for Gatwa and the new series.
Adult Animation:
Tumblr media
Castlevania: Nocturne
assajhdaskjhfksjdfhlsdjaghljdsghaj
Genuinely so great. It's very clear that they're setting up a whole multi season arc with this first season, and the incompleteness that comes with that is probably its biggest flaw. But overall, fucking fabulous. The animation, fights, character design. Just a gorgeous show. Maybe not to everyone's taste; it's fantasy, but not escapist - its very much rooted in the historical injustices of the setting and has some heavy themes as a result. But if you liked the first Castlevania show, then you'll probably love this.
Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix
You might have noticed that there was a show out that featured "Rayman, but with drugs and cussing!" and, yes, this is that show. You might not have noticed that Rayman is only a small part of it, and it's actually about Dolph - a traumatised gay cyborg - and his no good, horrible, very bad breakup. Dolph is great.
Star Trek: Lower Decks
Do you like Star Trek? Do you like silly cartoons and workplace sitcoms? Then do I have the show for you. Real highlight of the year for me tbh. While the show is built on poking fun at trek canon, and can feel a little overly reliant on nostalgia sometimes, the latest season really pushed for more meaningful character moments in between the laughs. I like it. It's good.
Mononoke
This was the most mixed of mixed bags. Japanese horror with a really striking and confronting art style. At its best, it's got this visceral atmosphere that sucks you in and is genuinely fantastic. At its worst, it's got a whole storyline about "abortion ghosts", and features some art that comes across as racial caricature. Between this, and a few other things that felt uncomfortable in an unintentional way, I don't think I'd really recommend this, but it did stick with me, I'll give them that.
YA Animation:
Tumblr media
The Dragon Prince
If you're into the whole YA fantasy adventure thing, this is an obvious rec. It's biggest flaw is how slow it's been to release, but if you're binging it for the first time, that's not a problem. It's heartfelt, it's pretty, it's clearly a kids show but is well crafted and has appeal beyond its core audience.
Star Trek: Prodigy
S1 actually originally aired like two years ago, but I only watched it this year after finding out that it was cancelled. But it was rescued! S1 is now on netflix, and s2 will air there next year. Genuinely a really fun contribution to the whole trek shebang, fitting into the universe well without ever feeling reliant on nostalgia.
I didn't include the two other treks that aired this year because s3 of Picard sucked balls (still not over it) and Strange New Worlds has stopped appealing to me... but that's a whole thing for the other blog. But the animated series are great! Also Disco. I still like Discovery.
Skull Island
This was better than it had any right to be. One season of a surprisingly funny King Kong show, also on Netflix.
Reality:
Tumblr media
Rupaul's Drag Race UK Season 5
DRUK is good again, hooray. The dark times are over... for now.
Married at First Sight UK
Do not watch this. It will consume your entire life. Your brain will melt away as you watch someone fake cheat on their fake husband with someone else's fake husband just days into their fake marriage.
Taskmaster
It's good. It's been good. It continues to be good.
2023 in Gaming
Lol no. Can you imagine?
I did play the sims a lot. I had my guy cheat on his husband who then died.
2023 in Books
Fun fact: I only finished one of the books I intended to read this year. That's embarrassing. Anyway, it was "From Here to Eternity" by Caitlin Doughty (yes, the Ask a Mortician lady). It's great.
2023 in Comic Books
Orlando
This has really been Steve Orlando's year for me. I was thinking about what series I would include on a highlight list, and his Scarlet Witch was the only obvious answer for me. Sara Pichelli's art in that series is gorgeous - I love the way she draws Wanda. The writing is solid, compelling, tells a complete story. If I were to recommend any one series from this year, it would be this.
His Astonishing Iceman was also up there for me, and I will also repeat that the Mutant First Strike one shot he wrote was genuinely great. Kudos, Steve.
Gillen
Kieron Gillen's Immortal X-Men is easily one of the best to come out of the Krakoa era, and this year was no exception. I didn't really care about the Sins of Sinister event, and I care even less about the Fall of X event, so it really means something that I'm still including this series here despite it being dominated by these events. The issue with Piotr's narration has been my favourite, I think. But overall, still strong. I really hope he gets to continue writing these characters (especially Exodus and Sinister) in the future.
Other Positivity
Ewing's Black Panther series is really solid, Avengers (2023) has been pretty good. Dark X-Men was probably my actual favourite of the Fall of X titles.
Negativity
Lol I already said I didn't like the x-events. I also hated cold war. Such a waste of an opportunity. Speaking of, a lot of my comics-based salt and frustration this year has been about Sam. The way that he gets written out of things, ignored, then he turns up and his written badly and goes straight back to being ignored again. Then Marvel turns to the camera and is like "why would audiences do this?".
Put the fucking effort in and more people would show up for him. It's not that hard.
There's my overall annoyance with Duggan, which is a freebie, but one highlight of that has to be the bizarre direction they went with Kamala. No one wanted this, no one needed it, and certainly nobody needed the weird gleeful "killing" of this character just to launch a pointless plot beat that feels both offensive (see: Emma lecturing Kamala about not understanding real oppression) and is inexplicably happening during a whole massive event that feels like it should be about other characters.
The end...?
I don't want to keep listing things that annoyed me this year, because it'll just get repetative. If you follow me (which, if you don't, why are you reading this?), then you'll see me complaining about random crap all the time anyway.
Have a good NYE everyone!

You're writing is spectacular!!! Could you tell us how you do it???? 🎤 It's so poetic without being overly romantic!!!
ahh thank you very much for the kind words! it’s an honour that you think so!! though I have to forewarn you… I suck at answering questions like this sskfhfg
there is still a lot for me to improve on re: writing, and as I’ve said before, it has practically become second nature to me so I know I sound like a prat explaining it (^^;) but really I just practise. I write stuff that I will never post. I indulge myself. I make a web-weave for every longer fic I outline so I can really grasp the tone I’m going for beforehand, then as I’m writing it I read my fic aloud (as I don’t have a beta reader), and parts that sound awkward or overly crowded or ‘too sweet’ are rewritten then and there until it flows better—I’ve tried to get out the habit of editing as I go but found it impossible pfft. there are just things that feel right to my own ear when I write and things that don’t!
but overall I think it boils down to the basics which I know you are all probably a wee bit tired of hearing since it doesn’t show immediate results.
it has everything to do with reading—or for me it did and still does. the more you read the more you know what you like (or don’t!!) and what storytelling tools you’ll want to play with. there are so many different styles and voices to learn from or be inspired by! the pacing, story beats, dialogue, character perspective, tone and ambiance, description!!! reading is how you pick up on those things because as frustrating as it is writing is something you learn to do overtime (and it is something that only ever seems to get harder the better you get at it oughhh)
so yeah I am not great at articulating it beyond: ‘ᵘʰʰʰʰ‬ I just put some words on the page’ and I apologise for that !! (*_ _)人 yes I’m a writer yes I can hardly form a coherent sentence we exist. but I hope this serves as a reminder that all of your favourite writers started in the same place you did, and they too are trying their best to raise their own limits. so be bad at it and have fun and read and share and you’ll grow into yourself!!

Hello hello!
Im not sure if I'm doing this right but I would like a romantic match up from Twisted Wonderland please!
My personality is a little hard to describe, as I change it up depending on who im talking to. If I'm with strangers I'm typically shy and anti-social. No I won't go up and talk to you, if I try it will be so awkward and ill think you're judging me the whole time 🥲
Now if I'm with irl friends, I'm much more open and talk a lot more. However because of my small stature, I have been dubbed a 'smol innocent bean child' I've also been told I am very huggable 😅
With online friends,I'm a literal gremlin, I will make up new words just because I can, I will talk in all caps when simping over my newest anime crush. I will say the stupidest things, like ask questions that I should know because it's basic knowledge. Sometimes I'll throw common sense out the window. I'm also the kind of person to see a Mac and cheese milkshake and be like "yeah but it kinda yummy lookin tho"
With family I am also still a gremlin, just without the constant cursing. I WILL make random noises for no reason, do random poses and/or gestures for no reason, make jokes that I think are funny but actually aren't, laugh like a hyena, or a donkey. Or just stop breathing 🤷‍♀️
I tend to talk loudly when I'm very passionate about something, and I have a small attention span 😅 I also really love cats, sweets, music, dancing. And singing.
And that's all ^^
A/N: Hello and thank you for your request! Reading over the info that you gave to me, I was able to choose who would be best rather quickly! I hope that you enjoy your match-up! Enjoy!
Tw: None
Tumblr media
I match you with..........
Floyd Leech
At first, he seemed to be a little uninterested, but that was when he saw your more shy, quiet, and reserved side. Between that and he was already having a rather bad day, he just wasn't feeling his best. And then he saw the side of you that was basically full on gremlin mode and now he was hyperfixated on you like a cat to a laser pointer.
Now, that's not to say that is the only reason that he was interested in you, your ever changing personality depending on who you are with, that is just how you first managed to get onto his radar, and now, you have an literal leech hanging onto you (pun intended).
If he ever sees you at any point in the day making those random poses of yours, he will absolutely walk right over to you, and copy these poses.... maybe show off his flexibility just a bit. He likes it when you watch him, what can he say?
Floyd absolutely loves your smaller stature. He is already rather tall as it is, well, in his human form. The sheer size of her mer form does not count. But he will always tower over you regardless. There are times he has propped his arm on your head or shoulder, or made any small jokes. This also means he squeezes you a whole lot more, maybe even just slightly more careful seeing as how much smaller you are than him. He just doesn't want to break you!
Please come and see him while he is at Basketball club or even during a game. He will even give you one of his jerseys to wear! Just the thought that you are there watching him and cheering him on makes him play just that much better. It's honestly the longest time anyone has seen him in such a good mood without it changing on a whim.
As it stands, being with Floyd means you're going to see a lot of Jade. Jade may have been rather skeptical at the start, not that he ever let anyone else see it, but seeing his brother actually happy and he isn't even bored with your presence speaks volumes, and he supports the both of you 100%. Also, you;re the only person who can actually get him to work.
Overall, a relationship with Floyd is a wild roller coaster ride a whole lot of the time, but that's the fun part of it all. You get to just be yourself when you are with him and he absolutely encourages this gremlin side of yours. This eel loves you no matter what.

alright. so. for reasons even i dont know about i have finished watching.... danny phantom. for the first time. in 2023. yeah
thoughts below
im not kidding when i say 'for the first time' lol i actually watched a couple of episodes but i unfortunately missed it due to being a zoomer. however i do remember thinking that this was.. really cool. like the premise is really cool and so this is a no-nostalgia watch
ahem.
season 1 was fun but season 2 was something else. its overall a mix of average to above average to Actually amazing episodes with the exception of season 3 which ... ?? ??? ?? ? ? i am going to pretend that wasn't a thing because unfortunately i really did like season 2
season 2 was extremely fun and had really interesting episodes. vlad was the best character in all of the show tbh and the ultimate enemy episodes were ??!!!?!!?!!?!!?! HELLO? ?? ?! SO GOOD. THEY HAD NO RIGHT BEING THAT GOOD. Season 2 overall had a bunch of episodes that had no right being as enjoyable as they were. I loved the 'what-if' episodes and the darker story in the ultimate enemy because i had indeed thought what if Vlad won or if took danny in. Have i mentioned how vlad's the best character? because he is. I usually don't like main villians or main protagnists but the vlad and danny episodes were definitely the best. Vlad is such a creep with weird predator groomer written all over him and yknow what? he did it right.
I really love the premise of the show and i wish it had been darker. and personal bias moment but if this exact premise was given to a mangaka or an anime studio it would've been an absolutely perfect 10/10 show. DP was really nice for what it was but godd it made me itch for darker content of everything, i mean, thats the starting tone! dude half died! ghosts are dead humans!! why not go all out? why the tease??? i loved the ghost zone and the entire ghost community thing and wish that it was... More. again, go all out with the premise!! damn restrictions for a below 13 yo show.
season 3 and the finale left a really sour taste in my mouth. yasterday while watching season 2 i was beyond impressed with everything but now i am... disappointed and annoyed. and i didnt even watch it fully for this exact reason, i watched like 80% of the finale but just got so bored i skipped around... sighs.
the characters were annoying at the start of the show but they actually became.. better, perfect even in season 2 then became stale in season 3. sighs. ive read on reddit that apparently this is a really common complaint so alas i'm sure there's a rant from 2011 that perfectly captures everything wrong with season 3 better than i could. it still sucks though
all in all, its definitely unforgettable. even just knowing the premise and opening of the show made it stick around in my brain despite never having seen the show. i love horror honestly. god i wish the show was darker and edgier, dammit. it was so close to perfection ... but then again, the characters are mostly eeeeeeeeeeh and danny is... a teen. i guess. i hate simp characters. tucker was annoying and sam was annoying at the start but she ngl has alot of nice moments but, again, i hate simp characters.
all in all (2) i want to watch an anime now. i feel the exact same way i felt when i decided to ditch cartoons and watch exclusively anime ngl. now im itching for edge and pain and murder and gore and blood done by NOT cowards. but the show was really fun...
when compared with other cartoons ive watched it... may be better than avatar and gravity falls and so on. it has it's charm!

I have finally watched The Flux!!
God it took me ages to get through Thirteen's episodes. Some were good but overall I was bored a lot so it took me ages to get through season 11 and 12. But I just watched the last episode of the Flux tonight and now I'm going to randomly share my disconnected thoughts about it on this post.
Okay so overall I think I enjoyed this season! Which surprised me. I was so prepared to hate it after all the hate for the Flux I've seen on Tumblr or be super bored like I am with a lot of Chibnall's episodes but while it isn't my favorite thing I do think it was 13's best season. I didn't think I'd enjoy the Flux if I'm honest. Everything I read about it sounded dumb or confusing and yeah I'm still a bit confused by some stuff that was just not addressed but this isn't the first time the whole universe (or massive parts of it) have been wiped out so it's not exactly a new concept for the Doctor. But the connection with her and her past is new and I'm intrigued by it if I'm honest. And it gave Jodie some great stuff to work with. She was so good in this season. Way better than the previous two seasons just because she had a lot more to work with writing wise.
The individual plots for each episode are really good and kept my attention. I've loved the plot of the Sontarans waging war through time, the Lupari and their species bond with humanity, the whole thing with the Mouri, Swarm and Azure were cool villains, the star crossed lovers Vinder and Bel trying to find each other, the Weeping Angels taking a whole village, Dan and Yaz living 3 years in the early 1900s and doing Indiana Jones type of stuff. I even enjoyed the Division and the Flux plot.
Now while I overall liked all that, I still feel unsatisfied because there were a lot of potentially great stories but they were all crammed together into 6 episodes and none of them had time to be fleshed out properly and some of them didn't connect well and trying to follow it all was SO HARD. There's so much going on and so many seemingly unrelated plots happening all at once that it's so hard to keep track of. And I'm watching all these episodes back to back immediately after one another. I can't even imagine trying to keep up when this aired one a week. I'd be lost. I think this would have been amazing if they had gotten a full season and didn't have to cram it all into just 6 episodes. (this is why I'm worried about the new season coming which is only gonna have 8 episodes. DW needs more than 8 episodes)
I adore Dan by the way. I loved him from his first scene and every second after has just been lovely. He's super sweet and I love his accent and that he's apparently so selfless that he'd rather give all his food to others than have any for himself. He's taking all this alien stuff so well too. He just got kidnapped by a giant dog and hasn't had a moments break since but he's cool. I like him best out of all of 13's companions so far. Too bad he barely had any episodes. That's a shame. Looking forward to watching these last 3 episodes with him though.
Vinder and Bel? I LOVE THEM BOTH!!!!! Talk about star crossed lovers! I'd watch a whole show just about those two.
Dan and Yaz living for three years in the early 1900s?? I WANT TO LEARN MORE!!!! How did they get out of the village that was surrounded by space? Why was it surrounded by space? Dan as the stowaway is hilarious and has to sleep under the bed in the ship XD.
Chibnall throwing every recurring species he can think of was nuts but in a fun way. Daleks, Sontarans, Cybermen, Ood, Weeping Angels, etc.
Kinda lame that Tecteun was just taken out so easily. I wanted the Doctor to do it in a very Doctor way. Like what 10 did to the Family of Blood ya know?
And that's all I got for now. 3 more episodes to go for 13's run!

Need to rant feel free to ignore :D
Have you seen the new windara poster? I'm very excited for june now, i am SHOCKED at how well the bug aliens look. Also kokotiam's armor design looks so fun and fits so well with the overall bug theme (Gopal and fang are hilarious i cackled when i saw them)
Boi's an ant and theres probably an essay someone already wrote about the meaning behind that, yaya's a lady bug and gosh she looks pretty, ying is a bee and i love the sporty look since bees are very fast bugs so it fits very well (also thank God she finally has a helmet my girl you are basically at a war protect your head dear God) it also fits better than the previously more "mage" look which.. did not make sense to me WHY she was designated that class
Fang and Gopal are Hercules beetle and rhinoceros beetle, which looks absolutely hilarious but makes sense. Again theres probably already an essay out there about the significance of each bug that has been designated for each kokotaim member so i won't bother you on that (though the research is fascinating and i highly recommend!)
Now.. بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ...
Consumers. Kindly. SHUT UPPP
Kritics are getting WAY too comfortable, we get it its not based on the comics designs. Infact i'd argue its better since the comics are literally just them with armor. In a bug planet. They have armor. For. Humans. That LOOK human, with the exception of Fang's but do you realize how nonsensical that sounds?
Also we were already told there were going to be changes in the story and design. The creators were very open on that, you don't like the 3d animation design? Great! You have a preference, sure; fantastic happy for you, we have our opinions so kindly. Shut up :D
Look kritics are normal i am not dissing on that, i'm more on people being mad that kokotiam doesn't look as "pretty" or "cool" or whatever and all i can say is. ARMOR IS FOR PRACTICALITY NOT LOOK POINTS WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE ONNNNNNNN
Also adapting a 2d design from a comic to a 3d design is HARD (trust me, blender i both love and hate you) thats not even counting ANIMATING it, you hate the 3d version? Well boi do i have good news for you that theres a 2d version :D its in the comics thats FREE for you to read on webtoon.
There wasn't even supposed to BE a galaxy season 2, there was no preparation for it ehich is why the comics are so different than the status quo. They took risks because there was never a plan for an animated version. So the fact we're getting anything at all for FREE mind you is a BLESSING
You can kritic sure yeah thats fine but use at least polite wording. These are people thats working on these things not your slave.
DON'T JUST SPEW NEGATIVITY AROUND LIKE ITS NOTHING. YOUR RUINING THE FUN FOR EVERYONE; THOSE WHO DIDN'T MIND THE DESIGN CHOICE, THOSE WHO JUST WANNA HAVE FUN, THOSE WHO ARE ENJOYING BBB JUST AS IS.
You have a specific design or writing that cater to you or you enjoy more? Do it yourself :D
Grab a pencil and start writing/sketching. HAVE FUN, you may not like it but not everyone is like that. There are those who like it, there are those who don't mind, there are those who understand that its not easy to create an adaptation.
Moreover the comics and show have very different audiences. Look at the difference between movie 2 and its comic, you can see that some scenes were either soften up or cut entirely because what audience it caters too more
If you want a more serious and emotionally mature view you can go read the comics (they are fantastic btw! Highly recommend movie 2 and the compilations)
Take a deep breath and think for a second. Is this kritic important? Is there an ACTUAL issue with this design choice? Will there be people who feel hurt by your words?
Anyway how was your ramadan and eid? Did you have fun :D ?
ALLAHUAKBAR ANON 🤣🤣
I can feel your emotions went turmoil in your long essay and yet still managed to end it with a smile. Of course I could not ignore yours anon😅
Have you seen the new windara poster?
Definitely~~ :3
Tumblr media
The poster fire af!!!!!!!! It packed from top to bottom!
(oooooh I'm scared yet excited for the fully animated version of Beliung omgggg >_<)

My biggest spotlight of all for me was how they reimagine the adult characters since well to be fair it has been uhh.... six years ago we had more than a few we had since movie 2? (Sori only had Gaharum and....uuuhh the trio lobster guys that I forgot what their names were in the tv ver :/)
And yes anon. The lady bug, Maripos, General Reramos and Princess Kuputeri. That number alone is a big step up from Sori. We also need to mention the army below in the poster. I highly appreciate they risking themselves by involving more characters like in Galaxy season 1.
To my suprise, I really looove Maripos in this ver. 😘🤌
Wait there's an essay behind Kokotaim's suit? Can I see???👀👀

ANON CALM DOWN
Tumblr media
I absolutely understand your feeling, sister/brother. 😅
I think I already written an essay, twice. Either if it's your ask box or not I'm just gonna put it here
and here.
My version gonna be a bit different from yours, so bear with me anon. Every perspective from each individual is still counted as subjective, no matter how objective they are, including myself.
Ehem.
Me personally... I'm on both sides of the group. I can understand why some people are angry about the suit design because I'm gonna be honest, even tho there were two different media between the comic and the tv/movie, staying in the source material without changing anything is essential to any adaptation series.
So the way people are furious with it. I can see where are they come from.
'The Kokotiam armor suit is heavily different than the comic ver?' Valid; 'Still use the chubbier render ver from Sori when this arc starts to get darker?' Valid.
And other takes that I obviously ignore since that were just beyond logic. I kid you not, anon. When they posted it the first time, my instinct was muting all words related to Boboiboy or spending my timeline with another topic. Because your frustration was my biggest worry that came true.
But at the same time, not many franchise could do the same strategy. Sometimes, refurbishing them without losing the source material could also work WITH extra proper care and permission from many parties. Because this tactic is such a gamble to please anyone. I also highly recommend studying the story behind the redesign of Sonic Movie 2020, Pre-Launch-Post Launch, and the impact on its linked franchises.
(Well to be fair the MCU franchise starting from Spiderman 1 was also a good topic to study)
So my bet is...maybe Monsta doing the latter strategy. It is risky for sure, I can guarantee that when they published it on YouTube since og era. But I can see the reason for their decision. Designing a proper armor for their planet's theme is genius tho. Big bonus to differentiate each bug for Kokotiam's gang that has meaning to them.
(Were they attempted to make Bug's Life in Boboiboy series? Lol😅)
Critics aside, people need to know, that even tho the comic looks dope as heck, Boboiboy's first release was on the screen, not on the paper. The screen audience within SEA is waaaay higher than the comic enthusiast. Therefore comics, in this case, is a fan service. You don't need to know the details, but you might get curious to search behind the scenes further.
(That's what I do after I finished Sori btw.)
There are advantages & disadvantages of Monsta releasing the second season comic first before the animated ver. The launch of the Mechamato series and Galaxy 2nd season may or may not help Monsta during the pandemic. Monsta's mini-series about covid awareness also helped them to survive.
Yet, people treat the Boboiboy franchise now are kinda similar to how people demanded things from an animated series that adapted from the manga. Which... Uuuh a bit unhealthy to be honest.
But again as I said before, at the end of the day, criticism especially from the internet always wants what they ask, not what the creators want.
This is also the reason for my decision to not meddle my interest further on the internet. The damaged left me a scar from my previous fandom that I'm at this point I'm toooo lazy to engage more in the community.
(But that doesn't mean I don't like the franchise anymore tho. I still love it af)
Anyway how was your ramadan and eid? Did you have fun :D ?
Alhamdulillah anon! My schedule really packed pre-during-and post Ramadhan!
I went to two towns for "mudik" tradition before and after ramadhan for the first time after the pandemic! (for outdonesian or maybe outside of malaysian as well, it's like a Christmas gathering at grandparent's house... I guess(?)).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was such a wholesome trip for sure! but boy I did need some time to adjust too(It was a challenging ride if you have a place at the mountains🤢)
My ramadhan month was also busy with working as a part-time job at my family stand. It is tough to sell things that were really not on the most target wanted.
But Allhamdulillah most of them were sold! I'm soo relieved! 😆😆
And because it was a holy month, I really need to take a rest from any social media. I still use them honestly, but not as many as before.
Now I'm struggling to get my drawing and writing enthusiasm back.
Tumblr media
Hope you also had a wonderful ramadhan too, Anon!😆👍

A short discussion of light and dark
Have you ever noticed how people seem to treat darker topics as the more "serious and adult" form of entertainment?
Because I do and it kinda bothers me.
Light, hopeful, whimsical stories seem often seem to be connected to children, while darker topics are regarded more mature and to a point that makes sense. Children don't see the bad things in the world as we adults do or at least we try to protect them from it. Stories written for them therefore don't delve too deep into topics that are considered too dark for them.
But the thing is: mature and dark are not the same thing. Serious and depressing are not the same. A story can be lighthearted and still be very serious.
Since I am a fantasy nerd I most often see this with fantasy stories. Be it games, movies or books. And I think it was my teenage years where I first noticed this phenomenon. If a story was darker, maybe bloodier, more deadly or dealt with mature themes like sex or abuse it was deemed better or more interesting by my peers. It wasn't that uncommon to hear critisism against a more lighthearted piece of media that boiled down to "it's unrealistic". And I think that is really nihilistic? The world isn't all sunshine and rainbows, no, but it is also not a horrible hell hole. Of course people who said this could have been just some teenage edgellrds who would eventually grow out of it, but here is the thing: some never did.
One piece of media I see this jappen to a lot is Legend of Zelda. While I haven't heard the critisism that it is unrealistic, I did hear people say that it is for children and then compare it to something more "mature" like Elden Ring or Dark Souls. Which is ... wild to me? Like yeah, both are fantasy games, but the target demographic is wildly different. At this point you are judging a game based of a colour palette.
"The old story of one hero defeating evil is so overdone and boring! It's so naive."
Yeah but it's also beautiful???
The hero that saves it all is a trope that lasted generations for a reason and while you can critisize aspects of it, it is simply fun. Maybe not to all, but to many who aren't always children.
I also hear that darker subjects are more thought provoking which I don't always disagree with, but I don't think the overall tone needs to be overly depressing for that. Lots of thoughts can also arive from how wonderful the world is.
I recently started watching Doctor Who and while yes, the show does have some really dark elements at times, I would consider it a very light hearted show. Because when I think of The Doctor I think of joy and wonder. I think about his laugh and his fascination with anything new he discovers. You could call his attitude to the universe almost childlike, with the biggest questions and thoughts raised not at how cruel the world is but at how wonderful it can be.
Another piece of media that manages to find a balance so wonderfully is Lord of the Rings. I don't think I have to explain anyone how beautiful those movies are, not in what you see, but what you feel. Lord of the Rings depicts a brutal war, people dieing, victories being bitter sweet. It is a journey full of hardships but also full of love. Love for your fellow soldiers, sworn brothers, for your people and land and the world in general.
"There is good in this world, Frodo."
And it is. The hope and the light are so wonderfully balanced with the dark ess and the death.
If anyone would have made the claim these movies would have been better if they were darker and the characters were more depressed due to the hardships they suffer, I would have called them a lunatic.
I've heard people say that they don't like reading YA fiction because it is too idealistic and prefer classic like Edgar Allen Poe like ... okay that can be a preference but the tone in which it is said sometimes suggested that they think it is "better" literature. And I don't like this elitism when it comes to fiction.
The cureent remake of Avatar - The last Airbender is another good example. Why did they try to make a show that is about war and genocide more mature and therefor darker, calling it something that would appeal to fans of Game of Thrones? Did they think it would be higher Art then? Or is it just because it was a cartoon which is for kids which is why it is less?
There is a similar thing going on in the shonen anime fandom. We all like to make fun of the "power or friendship" trope but people who call it cringe or unrealistic make me raise an eyebrow. The things I did for my friends that I couldn't have done without them is insane. I published a book and yeah it was a lot of hard work on my own but the only reason I could even get that far was because of the love and support of my friends. It's a real thing and if someone says it's unrealistic I just feel pity bc it just sounds like they didn't have very good friends growing up.
Light is wonderful. Joyful happy characters are inspiring. And I say that as an enjoyer of Angst. I like my stories to be dark and fucked up and pretty much every second character of mine deals with depression of some kind. But all of those dark moments couldn't work without light. If everything is depressing what should motivate my characters to fight?
There has to be good in this world. And fighting for it by overcoming the darkness is wonderful.
If there is only dark in a story I will not like it, just as much as I won't enjoy it if we sjy away from all of the darkness that could bother us. But neither of those sides speaks of maturity or quality and I wish some people would stop acting like it does.
Anyway, that was just me rambling. Find some light in your darkness, you deserve it. ✌

Self-Rec Tag Game
@heliopauseentertainments tagged me, so here we go
Rules: Share five of your works (art, writing, etc.). Then tag five people to share the things they made.
1. Something you absolutely adore.
2. Something that was challenging to create.
3. Something that makes you laugh (or smile).
4. Something that suprised you (in how it turned, in how much people liked it, etc.)
5. Something you want other people to see.
1. This is one of my lesser read fics since it’s written for Robots in Disguise 2001, but I love how I set up Railspike in “Team Gossip Train”. His friendship with an elderly lady is precious, and I never actually intended for this to go anywhere. It was supposed to be some heartwarming fluff. But I’ve been getting motivation to write a fic that shows their friendship off a little more and I fully intend to follow up on that. I think it’ll be two chapters, and I’ve written a good chunk of chapter one. No idea when that’ll come out. But now you can look forward to it!
2. The most challenging series I’ve ever written has to be “Megatron’s Elite Trine”. I make no secret of the fact that I have not read IDW as a whole. I’ve seen whatever snippets and info dumps that cross my dash. I know about whatever “The Basics” talks about on Youtube. I’ve had lengthy discussions with my husband, who has read it extensively. But I myself am not completely and totally familiar with it like I am with other continuities. That and I had never written for a polyamorous relationship before. So this was new territory.
But seeing people are enjoying these fics provides me with a good amount of confidence. The characters and their interactions are becoming easier to figure out and write with each passing fic and I am enjoying myself. So overall, I’m satisfied with the results.
3. “Come Fishing” never fails to make me grin. I love Roddy and Ultra Magnus so much, and I really wanted to convey just how much fun their friendship is. It’s easy to write a stoic character who doesn’t laugh or smile, but that’s not who G1 Magnus is. He smiles and he enjoys a bit of fun, but his sense of responsibility usually has him by the reins. Roddy is that friend that makes it his mission to make sure Magnus gets a break now and again so he doesn’t work himself to death. His energy and enthusiasm is infectious and Magnus cherishes it, despite the fact that Roddy can be a bit overzealous at times.
4. Honestly, I am very surprised by how much traction “Decepticon Snippets” has gotten. It started out as fun little things to make the Decepticons seem less black and white, because as much as I adore G1, I like to venture away from the simple “they’re the bad guys and we’re the good guys” attitude. They’re all cybertronian. I wanted to have an excuse to dive into the Decepticons and flesh out their characters. And I’ve got a handful of rarepairs in there for my own pleasure. And then it developed a bit of a plot. And apparently a lot of people like it??
I planned on adding some OCs in there, but then decided it would make for better writing if I just made that story its own thing. I plan on making Astrotrain and Dead End an item once I get the motivation to continue it. But yeah, I’m always shocked whenever I get a notification showing that another person has added a Kudos to it. Because I’m still getting them, despite having not updated that one in ages.
5. I would absolutely love for “The Rise of Rodimus Prime” series to get more traction. It’s a passion project that my husband and I are both super excited to finish. This series is set in G1 and follows Rodimus and a trine of seekers around the galaxy, the initial trine being Redwing, Hotlink, and the conehead Sandstorm. As they go, Rodimus is trying to keep the seekers safe from the bounty that Galvatron put on their heads, while also uncovering a big mastermind plot with each encounter his group has against various antagonists.
The group gains more members over time and develops familial bonds with each other. The multiverse is also torn in some places, so there are more than a handful of bots that come from other continuities, such like: Robots in Disguise 2001, Shattered Glass, and IDW. This series will also be tied in to the third installment of “Maximo’s Legacy” when I eventually finish the second installment.
We also have a fic dedicated to showing how Hotlink’s character started out to show why we went the direction we did with him and provide some more insight on the mystery that Redwing is.
This is a very ambitious project and I cannot gush about this story or the characters enough. I know that I hardly ever post about them, but boy do I want to hold entire conversations with people about this!
Anyone I tag, feel free to ignore if you don’t want to participate: @rubski02, @tanglecolors, @tsubasa10126-unwinds, anyone else interested can tag themselves

Then there’s Niki’s room. And Wilbur continues to be amazed by anything Niki does. And it’s funny because Niki thinks that actual flowers and the wealth are better, whereas all Wilbur cares about is the freedom and the joy of Niki’s painted flowers. The imperfections that make it human rather than the perfectly controlled flowers of his glorified prison.
Then there’s the birds. Wilbur longs to be like the birds. I am loving the bird metaphors. Wilbur not so much. He’d rather not have a bird in his chest. [“I think it’s a nice reminder not to underestimate people,” Niki said, flipping to another page in her sketchbook. “If you push someone too far, even the prettiest songbird could impale you.”] I wonder if that’s a dig at Wilbur’s past murder attempt on Tommy or Niki describing herself.
No way to know cuz Ponk interrupts. And this is another advantage of Tommy not being there. He would have been more protective of Wilbur and probably a little aggressive towards Ponk. Niki has a different personality. While she’s still wary and a little protective, she was probably just trying to avoid more conflict. She’s also willing to push a lot farther than Tommy would have let Wilbur be pushed. I don’t think Tommy would have let Ponk do a check-up. Though that’s probably because Tommy is better at reading Wilbur’s discomfort. (or thinks he is).
And then we get another display of people realising how fuck-up Wilbur is and Wikburnnot getting why they are sad. Like he doesn’f get why he doesn’f get a bottle of pills, not that he wanted them in the first place, but Ponk and Niki very clearly think that Wilbur’s suicidal. While we know that the reason he ‘wanted’ them to kill him is because he knows he couldn’t kill himself. He doesn’t want to die, he just doesn’t really want to live the life he’s living right now. But at this point, he doesn’t want to go back to the palace and his old life either.
Anyway, Niki and Ponk are tag teaming Wilbur into better health through a combination of doing a mild check-up by asking for things step by step or by travelling about the headaches. This includes several more realisations of this dude is not okay such as: what do you mean you have constant headaches and you aren’t taking painkillers and weren’t planning to tell me? What do you mean it’s your entire head? Why is your heart rate so fast? How much anxiety do you have?
Also, gotta love Ponk completely ignoring that Wilbur had a panic attack a few days before and not asking follow-up questions in favour of telling Wilbur he can help of they get more frequent. Overall it’s a very great example that the Deathlings aren’t monsters. They are people with empathy. Also the whole ‘wanting Wilbur dead thing’ gets cleared up, in that no one actually wanted him dead, they where more debating whether or not they had the luxury of keeping him alive. It also shows that Wi, but argeong with that side that wanted to kill him had a lot of lasting “oh fuck” impact.
-🌲
yes I wanted to show the contrast in their attitudes towards the flowers!! niki would love to see real plants and thinks they have to be way better than the imitations she paints on her walls. wilbur is amazed at how free and alive her paintings look, because picture perfect flowers planted in a neat row aren't really alive. not in a proper sense.
the bird metaphors are so fun to write. I'll let you interpret niki's line there how you like.
yeah if tommy was there ponk wouldn't have gotten through the damn doorway. tommy would've kept him far away from wilbur after the 'kill the pythia' debate, but niki is different like you said. part of it is also that while i didnt get a chance to show it, niki and ponk are very good friends. like, she's definitely closer with ponk than she is with sam for example. so she trusts ponk not to do anything and encourages the check up because she knows the pythia hasn't been seen by ponk yet. at least not in an actual doctor-sense.
to be fair when you're debating whether or not to kill a guy and he goes "yeah actually you should kill me it's for the best" you're gonna think he's suicidal too. poor wilbur didn't even pick up on that with the bottle of pills thing. tbh he'd probably be fine with the pills now, though of course niki and ponk don't know that. a week earlier though? yeah you 100% couldn't trust him with those.
poor ponk is just getting more and more concerned for their prisoner as the check up goes on. he took his heart rate and had to stop himself from cursing out loud because of how high it was.
look ponk could tell wilbur wasn't really comfortable with the whole check up as it was, so he had a feeling that the panic attack wasn't something he was going to want to talk about. also, ponk isn't a psychiatrist. he technically has to act as one since he's the closest thing they have, but his specialty is with more standard internal medicine hence why he just decides to focus on the panic attack as a physical symptom.
but yeah the deathlings aren't monsters. the debate definitely fucked with wilbur's head, but no one meant for it to get as blunt and aggressive as it did.

Review: Another Code: Two Memories
Tumblr media
CiNG • Nintendo • 2005 • Nintendo DS Read it on Backloggd: (x)
After discovering Hotel Dusk, I like many others became enamored by the mystique surrounding its developer, Cing: A tiny team that brought the absolute most out of both the DS and Wii, made 4 Nintendo-published games, and despite that died less than 10 years after being founded.
Out of those 4 games, Hotel Dusk is definitely the most well known, and I absolutely fell in love with it. Beyond the fascinating hardware uses and overall presentation, it was the mood and overall pacing of its story that captivated me. A game relishing in the mundane. Games like Shenmue and No More Heroes captivate me with how they use those chunks of silent, "uninteresting" gameplay to both further enhance the more exciting moments and immerse you more in their everyday worlds. Even Ace Attorney does it in a sense with its investigations.
Long story short: I wanted more Hotel Dusk and decided to try out Cing's first ever Nintendo-published game. And to make another long story short, whilst it definitely shows more rough edges and lack of focus compared to Hotel Dusk, the game's heart is still in the right place.
Its a quirky little game: The textboxes look right out of a flash game, the mouth movements can look flat-out creepy if you pay enough attention to them, and unlike Hotel Dusk most puzzles are moreso there to just...be puzzles, rather than have much of anything to do with the world. Its set up sort of similarly to old-school Resident Evil in that way, I guess. You get a mansion with an assortment of rooms and need to decode how to progress further into the house: Solving a puzzle in the living room gives you a key to a drawer in the office, et cetera.
What really made me draw the Resident Evil connection is the abundance of lore-nuggets sprinkled about: It uses its premise of having two characters with memory issues to let the player ponder over two mysteries at once. Its a neat way to handle the story over its short runtime. Outside of solving that mystery the story isn't all that special on paper, and honestly I mostly played this game as preparation to eventually be able to play Another Code R on Wii.
Yet even in those 5 little hours and all that crust, you can definitely feel the Cing spirit here. The atmosphere of Blood Edward Island in general is fantastic, arguably better than Hotel Dusk, due both to the surprisingly large soundtrack as well as the absolutely brilliant use of the two-screen setups. Its straight-up one of the best Adventure game UI's I've ever used, having a 3D-modelled world on one screen as well as 2D stills of the island's most captivating viewpoints on the other. When paired with the music, it creates a kind of immersion I haven't really felt in any other game, and am sad to realize will probably never be seen in any future games given the 3DS' discontinuation. It really does help sell this abandoned mansion's eerieness to both be able to see it at large and see its more detailed spots at the same time.
What also helps with this is that, for as simple as the story is on the whole and as cutesy as the premise seems (A 14 year old goes investigating with her ghost best friend!!), it touches on some surprisingly dark yet very real subjects, with Ashley reacting accordingly. The writer of all four Cing games, Rika Suzuki, has always emphasized that Another Code is specifically about Ashley's mental state first and foremost, and I feel like these moments of discussing betrayal, suicide, abandonment and grief really tie the game together nicely. But really, what'll drive you through the game is its story and atmosphere, alongside the curiousity of how it'll use the DS hardware next.
With its puzzles feeling so deliberately designed to be "DS gimmicks" compared to the more grounded Hotel Dusk puzzles, it end up feeling somewhat self-aware in a really fun way, like "ooh yeah this puzzle is really clever of us", and you yourself cant do anything but go "yeahh youre right", even when they as puzzles are often not anything special. A lot of the time I'd even argue they're too cryptic for their own good.
The story at large is also like a puzzle in of itself, but with its aforementioned short runtime and constant new little pieces uncovered, alongside just generally pretty sweet little character moments, its very fun to just follow along with. Weird, grounded, silly, ominous, crusty, atmospheric: Another Code is most definitely able to be a lot of things in its runtime. At the end of the day I am still very glad I took the time to play it, if only for the memories it gave me.
[Playtime: 5 hours] [Key Word: Novelty]
