#I feel like Steve doesn't fight like a normal person

Text
a scene with absolutely no context just hit me v intensely out of nowhere but. imagine a world where Steve's dad is just a little more powerful, a little darker, than in canon. and this mr. harrington doesn't know his son has spent the last five years fighting for survival, so when he finds out steve has been running around with the munson boy, he thinks it'll be an easy fix. steve has always been a soft sell.
he gets a call from steve, his son's voice giving him no time to even answer: "you pull that shit again, I'm sending the next one home in a body bag."
before he can even put down the phone, dial tone already ringing on the other side, he gets the message that the heavy he sent to intimidate eddie munson is in their medic's office with two spiral fractures and a shattered kneecap.
maybe steve could have gone into the family business after all.

Under pressure
For @subeddieweek Day 1 | M | 1177 | accidental subspace, non-verbal communication, sleepover, Steve-instinctive-Dom-Harrington | Ao3
Tumblr media
Eddie avoided fights because he was a coward. A pussy, even, he'll admit. But there was a whole other reason for him avoiding sports.
He wasn't a big fan of physical contact.
But since he's become better friends with Steve Harrington, he's been discovering things about himself. Things he wished would have stayed hidden. Forever.
The first time, it was a tussle for the remote. Eddie refused to watch another episode of whatever the fuck capitalist media was trying to spoon-feed them, while Steve was adamant there was a plot that he was invested in. One elbow to the gut and some pulled hair later, he landed underneath the guy, his weight pinning him to the ground.
Melting his bones.
Soothing.
"You okay?"
Steve sounded concerned about Eddie's sudden silence, and his mind scrambled to salvage his dignity. All he could manage was a groan, which Steve thankfully interpreted as a sign of pain and not the sudden weakness that it was.
He instantly hopped off of him, apologizing.
Eddie has been avoiding and yearning for the touch ever since.
He had never considered Steve like that, but apparently being sat on was the biggest turn-on for his poor little dick, and now it was all he could think of at night.
His doom comes when he has to sleep over after a night of drinking. Steve insisted they share a bed, that it was alright, and Eddie foolishly believed him.
It is fine until Steve rolls over to put away his glasses.
"Shit, sorry. I just gotta..."
They didn't think this through, because Eddie was the one next to the bedside table, the one Steve was trying to reach. He almost crawls over Eddie to accomplish it, his weight heavy on top of him, pressing him to the mattress and making his mind go blank.
He bites his lip so hard he probably draws blood, but it doesn't stop the whimper Steve's body literally pushed out of him.  Steve freezes.
"Are you alright?" He drops the glasses and shoots up. "Did I hurt you?"
Eddie can't answer. His brain is screaming at his mouth, but he can't manage a single word, all he can think of is Steve's body back on him, that weight pressing him down, immobilizing him. He could probably reach pure bliss with just that.
When he doesn't get an answer, Steve pulls on his shoulder to flip him on his back. Eddie whines in protest but doesn't have enough control over his muscles to stop him. His shame gets put on display and Steve's eyes widen.
"Eddie?"
His pupils are huge as he blinks owlishly up at his friend.
"You okay?"
Eddie nods.
"Do you need anything?"
You. On me, against me, in me.
He shakes his head slowly, not breaking eye contact. This seems to frustrate Steve.
"Eddie, come on," he groans. "Clearly something's wrong. Do you need water? I can bring you some." He moves to stand up, but Eddie's in the way. He has to throw his leg over him, and Eddie presses his eyes closed, begging his body not to react.
It's enough to alert Steve, though, and he freezes hovering above him, mid-movement.
"Huh."
It's a soft sound, barely there, and Eddie decides to keep his eyes closed. Maybe if he does, whatever realization Steve has gets forgotten, and he moves on, brings him the damn water, and maybe throws it on him like on a horny dog. Maybe that would help him.
But no, the ‘huh’ is followed by Steve settling down on his hips.
Oxygen escapes him in a whiny breath, and his body presses up without his control, seeking that delicious weight of another body.
"Want to make out about it?" Steve asks out of the blue like any normal person would in these circumstances. But Eddie doesn't answer him, he can't, and he doesn't know. He can only stare and writhe under him, making tiny sounds of need he can't comprehend. Steve frowns down on him, partially concerned, partially curious.
"Don't feel like talking?" he asks. Eddie gives him a nod. He hums. "Can you answer some yes or no questions? Nod for a yes and shake your head for no."
Nod.
"You can blink twice if you don't know or don't want to answer. Okay?"
Nod.
"What do you do if you don't want to answer?"
Eddie blinks twice.
"Good. Great." Steve smiles, and Eddie mirrors it through his haze. "Are you feeling alright?"
Nod.
"Do you need water?"
Shake.
"Do you need the bathroom?"
Shake.
"A snack?"
Shake.
Steve considers him, perched on top of his body. Eddie tentatively reaches up, palms resting on his thighs. Steve's gaze follows his fingers, where they just rest with no ill intent, only there to touch.
"Will we talk about it more in the morning?"
Eddie hesitates. Does he want to talk about it? To bring his shame to the light of day, confess the budding crush on his friend? But Steve doesn't seem angry, he's not kicking him out of the bed. He's being soft and gentle and trying to understand. Maybe in the morning, they could understand it together. Tentatively, he nods.
That eases Steve's frown a bit, but he sighs when another problem hits him.
"I don't know what else to ask," he admits with a huff.
Eddie wants to help, so he slides his hands up, towards his hips, and tries to convey as best as possible where he wants him. He stares into his eyes, begging him to understand.
"Want me to lay down on you?"
He nods furiously, excited to get what he needs.
Steve looks down. It's a minuscule movement of his eyes, but it's there. He will know if Eddie's hard when he moves, but he needs the heads-up. The bulge in Eddie's sweats is noticeable but not fully there, to Steve's relief. Having his friend under him in such a pliant state is already overwhelming as it is, and he knows Eddie will feel his own chub when he moves.
"We're just sleeping tonight, alright?" Steve clarifies and Eddie nods without hesitation. "And cuddle a bit, I guess." Eddie nods again.
He moves, watching his friend’s face for any sign of distress. Eddie’s hands slide around him in an embrace that's more comforting than Steve's ready to admit, and soon they're chest to chest, legs tangled, and he has to crane his neck to maintain eye contact.
"That alright?"
Nod.
Eddie's hands squeeze him minutely and Steve settles down against his shoulder, finally resting his full body weight against him.
The man underneath him sighs, and it's like his whole body deflates. He makes a content sound in the back of his throat, and Steve wants to cry. It's so endearing and so comforting to have Eddie trust him like that. To have him turn into mush in his presence.
He hopes he's not overstepping when he presses his nose to Eddie's neck, inhaling him and softly caressing his skin when he murmurs a "goodnight, Eds."

Shovel Talk(s) Final Part
Part One 🦇Part Two🦇Part Three🦇Part Four
Steve starts with Dustin. Not for any particular reason. Dustin is just the first person he ends up seeing after an entire weekend spent at Eddie's house. They'd redone their date in Indy on Saturday, getting back into Hawkins late, so Steve stayed the night. He had a morning shift at Family Video but it was Robin's day off so he didn't see her.
Dustin called at 11:00am on Monday to ask for Steve's assistance with his bike's flat tire. He needs a ride to Melvald's for a new tire tube and pump, and since Steve's shift doesn't start until 2:00pm he agrees.
Steve picks him up and listens to him ramble about his weekend and how he the tube got a hole in it. He stays in the car while Dustin runs inside to make his purchases, and then they're back at Dustin's house. Dustin knows how to change out the tube on his bike; he's been raised by a single mother for longer than Steve's known him so he's pretty self-sufficient, but Steve still offers to do it and Dustin lets him.
It's little moments like these that really let Steve feel like Dustin's brother. Which is what makes it easier for Steve to say, as he is peeling the tube from inside the tire out, "hey, do you remember a week or so ago, when you said we were happy for Eddie and me?"
"Yeah," Dustin says as he's ripping open the package the new tube is in.
"You also told me to not hurt him. I- why'd you say that?" Steve halts his progress on peeling the tube out to look up at Dustin.
He watches as Dustin turns sheepish, "I. Well, mostly I said it so that when I talk to Eddie, I might feel less bad about threatening him."
"What? Why did you threaten him?"
Dustin finishes freeing the new tube from its prison before finally looking back at Steve, "I haven't yet. Mike was talking about how Nancy gave you a shovel talk a while ago, as Eddie's 'best friend'," he makes air quotes around the words, "and I'm your best friend, so I have to give Eddie one. But Eddie's also my friend, so I had to say something to you, too."
"That's so-" Steve cuts off, because he was going to say that's so childish but Dustin should be allowed to be childish just a little longer. Part of his childhood was stolen by monsters and Steve can give him a little bit back, "that's a nice thought but please don't shovel talk Eddie. Besides, Erica beat you to it."
"Shit!"
"Language."
"Well, since Erica did it there's really no point in me doing it. She's terrifying when she wants to be."
Steve laughs because Erica can be terrifying. "Give me the tube, or do you want to finish this?"
"No, continue," Dustin thrusts the tube at Steve, who takes it with a grin and gets back to work.
Robin and he are closing on a Wednesday night, so it's been slow all day, and while Steve wants to talk to Robin, he doesn't want to be interrupted. So, they go about their shift like normal and it's only once he's locked the door and flipped the open sign to closed that he seeks out Robin in the back room, where she's counting down the till.
"Can you pause after that? I need to talk," Steve says and feels his stomach churn. He's never.... he and Robin have never had a fight, never really had any issues that required a talk. Not about anything between them anyway. Robin's always just understood him, in the same way he's understood Robin. They've never been the source of each other's pains until now.
"Yeah, of course," Robin finished the coins, marking down the amounts on a piece of paper before shifting to give Steve her full attention. "Are you ready to talk about it?"
"It?"
"Whatever's hurting you," she says. "I don't know what it is, but I knew you'd come to me when you were ready."
"It's been heard to try and talk about," Steve confesses, "because it's never. It was never you that I've been- I still don't know what to say but I know I don't want to be..." he trails off, waving his hands as he grapples for the words he wants.
"Oh," Robin whispers, standing from the desk to approach. "I hurt you. Tell me what I did, so I can properly apologize."
"When you told me to be careful with Eddie," Steve says, "after I told you about our first date. I don't understand why you'd say that me."
Robin looks pained and swallows before she says, "I'm so sorry, Steve. I shouldn't have said that. And I don't- I don't even have a good reason why I did. I know you'd never hurt Eddie. I know you and what I said wasn't even about you. Not the real you, anyway."
"So, why'd you say it, then?"
Robin frowns and looks away from him, shuffling her feet before she says to a point at the wall, "I was friends, or friendly, with a lot of the girls you were with in high school. A lot of one and done dates that I had to hear about, while they cried in the bathroom or on their bedroom floors, wondering what they'd done wrong, why you didn't stay or-" Steve winces as the reminder of who he'd been in high school comes easily out of Robin, but not for the usual reason he winces. It's not because Robin's reminding him he used to be a douche; she's reminding him of all the people he hurt and never cared that he'd done it. He never apologized, and now it's far too late even if all those girls deserve to hear it.
Robin is still speaking, "or whatever. But that doesn't matter now. You aren't that guy anymore; haven't been the entire time I've actually known you and it wasn't fair for me to say what I said. I just- you took Eddie out, and the part of me that spent years of high school consoling friends who felt used by you just spoke. I-I need to work on filtering the words that come out of my mouth, because if I'd waited like, four more seconds to process your words and settle in the fact you went on a date we both thought you'd never be brave enough to ask for, then I never would have said it. I'm so sorry, Steve. I know you and I should have known better."
Steve swallows thickly, because it hurt to hear but he also knows she's sorry and that's enough. He steps forward and sweeps her into a hug, crushing her against him. She squeezes back just as hard.
Steve has never felt really hurt about Wayne's shovel talk. It was the first, and the only one he'd say he deserved. Not because Steve deserved to have a shovel talk given to him, but because Wayne should get to have the honor of giving one. Eddie's never had a boyfriend before, and Wayne had spent so long worried about how this town would treat Eddie if they knew he was gay.
So, when Steve sees Wayne again, he just smiles at the man, and gets a genuine smile back. He and Wayne are ok.
He and Jeff apologize to each other next time they cross paths on a Hellfire night. Steve apologizes for being snappy and rude. Jeff apologizes for automatically assuming the worst of Steve. They agree to a truce and a start over.
Steve's convinced he can win over Eddie's friends eventually.
Steve can't talk to Nancy. There's too much left unsaid between them for him to feel comfortable with telling her she hurt him. But it's okay. He and Nancy aren't close friends, and she's leaving for Boston in a few weeks for college. He's sure that the distance, and not seeing her weekly for Lunch Date Day, will help.
So, he's a bit surprised to answer the knocking on his front door to see Nancy. It's an exact recreation of the day she shovel talked him and immediately Steve tenses.
"Uh, hi," he says.
Nancy takes a deep breath and says, "I'm sorry. I thought I was being funny when I gave you that shovel talk, but I- someone made it clear to me that we aren't friends enough to be able to make jokes like that. That's my fault, too. For everything I've done and never apologized for. So, I want to say that I'm sorry."
Steve's a little stumped, a bit perplexed even, so he speaks on autopilot, "It's fine, Nance. We're good."
Nancy squares her jaw and narrows her eyes and says, "no."
"No?"
"No. Don't forgive me. Not yet. Make me earn it."
Steve don't respond right away. He wants to just forgive Nancy, but when he thinks about it, he just wants to do that so Nancy will quit looking so defensive. He's not sure he does forgive her. "You're right. I- we'll work on that, then. Being friends one day."
"Good. Good," Nancy nods. "I'll see you are Lunch Date day, yeah? Or... or would you like me to stop coming?"
He shakes his head. "No, please keep coming. There's, what, three more before you're off to college? We can work towards friends in that time, yeah?"
"Yeah," Nancy gives him a small smile, "see you then, Steve."
"See you," Steve replies and shuts the door as she heads down the walkway back towards her car.
He wants to know if Eddie or Robin gave her the dressing down that brought her here to say sorry.
(It wasn't Robin or Eddie. It was Mike, learning what Nancy had done and telling her it wasn't her place to do that.)
There is one final shovel talk for the remainder of their relationship.
It's the final day in Steve's room at his parents house. He's moving in with Eddie and Wayne, at least until the kid's all graduate. Then he and Eddie might go off somewhere on their own.
He's finished packing up his things from the bathroom, and looks up in the mirror. He sees himself, and almost doesn't recognize the reflection staring back. He looks happy. Actually, really happy.
Eddie appears behind him in the mirror, leaning himself against the doorjam, smiling softly at Steve through the mirror.
"All done, sweetheart?"
"Yeah, babe," Steve says. "Just one more thing."
"Oh?"
Steve slides his eyes away from Eddie in the mirror, back to himself. He lifts a finger and points one accusingly finger at himself and says, "if you fuck this up, Harrington, I'll kick your ass myself."
Eddie's full belly laughter rings loudly in the bathroom and Steve just smiles.

Note
yours and soda's first argument
Sodapop Curtis x Reader - First Fight
Tumblr media
Authors Note - So sorry for not writing this sooner, I don't really have an excuse, I just never felt like it. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
• The fact the two of you even fought is crazy to me
• I think Soda is pretty good with communication
• Like he comes to you if he's hurt, you go to him, there's no secrets between either of you
• But there's one thing we all know
• Just because Sodapop has a partner doesn't mean the girls will leave him alone
• Maybe one of them go a bit too handsy while you were coincidentally at DX
• Poor Sodapop has no idea they're flirting because he's just like 'okay, they're touching my arm, weird but you do you'
• Then she gets more handsy
• And the thing that made you mad is Sodapop didn't do shit about it
• This random girl was practically feeling him up and he was just smiling and talking to her, trying to get customer service points
• I'd be mad too
• You know Soda would never cheat on you
• But still, if some random guy had his hand on your bicep you'd say something about it
• At least lean away
• But Sodapops just sitting there, all smiles.
• So eventually Soda comes back to the Curtis house where you often are, all excited to tell you about what Steve did today
• Only to be met with you
• His first thought is 'aw, she had a bad day'
• Which is so sweet holy shit
• But back to the beef
• You, obviously, confront him
"Hey.. how come you were letting that girl touch you like that?"
• He's gotta think for a second because he doesn't even remember any girl
• Then it clicks
• Shit, she was flirting??
• Aw fu-
"It ain't anythin' important"
• Right when he said it he regretted it
• 'WHAT THE HELL'RE YOU THINKING??'
" What the fuck is that supposed to mean?"
"It's nothing."
"What, you let hot girls feel you up and then come home to me all sunshiney?"
"It's not-.."
• This idiot
• His swore his brain wasn't working
"Why ya' gotta be so jealous?"
• Oh shit
• He could've sworn he heard a snap in your nervous system
"What?"
"Look, darlin', I didn't-"
"Can you shut up for one second? What the hell do you mean?"
• He can't even respond
• He's still internally slapping himself on the forehead
"Are you gonna just stand there?"
"I.."
• You just rolled your eyes (understandable) and walked off
• The moment you left he slapped him in the forehead with an audible 'pow'
• After that, if you're like me, you kept your distance
• Cause, for a good reason, you're pissed
• Sodapop goes to Darry for advice
• And of course Darrys response is
"Are you stupid?"
"I dropped outta school, Dar', course I'm stupid."
"Yeah but I didn't think you were that stupid"
• He tells Soda to give you your space
• And Soda tries, he really does
• But he just can't avoid you
• He's literally head over heels for you and he's supposed to just ignore you??
• So eventually he finally manages to track you down
• This man is practically on his knees begging you to forgive him
"I'm so sorry, I ain't never do it again, it was stupid I know-"
• If I were in your shoes I'd start laughing
• Or maybe you're still mad
• Or you're smiling at the apology, depends on who you are.
• But it's practically impossible not to forgive him
• He said "I'm sorry" at least 500 times by now
• He sounds like Eminem at this point
• So either you're
A) "I forgive you, Soda"
Or
B) To stubborn to forgive so you just kiss him
• I'm personally a B but you do you
• It's the sweetest kiss ever
• Pure wattpad fanfiction kiss
• Soft and sweet with both of you smiling into it
• Especially Soda
• He hasn't tasted you in like.. 1 day
• That's practically an eternity
• In summary
• Arguments with Soda rarely happen
• And if they do they last for 3 days max
• Normally with Sodapop knocking at your window with some roses and his award winning smile
• And no matter how big the problem is
• You always end up making out
• Gotta love Soda

Background details about Tommy and Carol from Season 1, and how they are with conflict
<very much not an all exhaustive list, i just saw this gif with something interesting and pulled up the whole show to look into it>
Tumblr media
Now the one i saw was slightly longer, showing carol and tommy's continued reactions, so ofc we had to learn how tf to make gifs so i can show you guys what im talking about (this ones at .75 speed)
Tumblr media
Specifically, to include not just their initial reactions, but also the next thoughts.
Lets start with Nicole, the redhead on the far right, who obviously isn't nearly as close to the trio as they are to each other (she's basically only around at school and this scene and doesn't stick around after they run from the cops). She's our control (if this were an experiment), the normal reaction. She's surprised in the entertained way. Steve's girlfriend slapped him, things are getting interesting.
Then Carol, who's probably got my favorite reaction. A similar surprise and "Oh" as Nicole, but her eyebrows don't stay up if they even jump at all. Then she looks at Nancy and she's mad, clearly on Steve's behalf. Steve's girlfriend slapped him, how dare she.
Next we have Tommy, the only person in this scene to noticeably flinch, bringing an arm up in front of him and playing it off with the cigarette to his mouth and marveling at the event. To me, it reads as a kind of empathy: if he were in Steve place in that moment, he'd block/shield himself and he has the reflexes to do it even when he's standing several feet away. I could be reading into it, but i still think its interesting he make more movement than the two people closer to them, and even the guy getting slapped (who doesn't even turn away, the momentum of the hit changes his angle slightly).
Tumblr media
Then another (im sorry its pretty hard to follow, again, just learned how to make half decent gifs) showing interesting stuff from the fight i never noticed until looking for it. Most notably, extra lines/ad-lib from Tommy and Carol I've subtitled, like Tommy telling Carol to leave (the implication that she didn't want to as Nicole grabbed her, combined with her line worrying about him), Tommy hauling Steve up and Steve stumbling like we see in season 2 after his concussion (not definitive proof he has a concussion or something close to it since hes able to run and talk fine after, but its interesting)
Then we get the conflict afterwards, showing up differently for Carol and Tommy.
Tumblr media
With Carol, its arguing. It's jabs at Nancy and it jabs at Tommy and Carol. What i think is really interesting is that the shit Steve says genuinely surprises her. Before she's goofing off with Tommy, the both of them trying to lighten the mood and Steve snaps. And her response isn't "calm down" or "what's gotten into you" (that's more in Tommy's lines), shes genuinely taken aback.
And then at the end, Steve raises his voice (not loud enough for a yell, but combined with the motion it feels like one) and Carol visibly backs up, out of frame entirely for a second. (followed by Tommy blowing up at Steve for yelling at her, and the following lines expressing again how its out of character for him)
That, combined with her reaction to Steve yelling from a previous scene (where he's going to check on Nancy and they tease him for caring) (also at .75 speed)
Tumblr media
She's definitely got something going on with yelling specifically, especially since Tommy doesn't even look upset after, an expression similar to Nicole's "shit got interesting" expression from earlier.
Then there's Tommy's conflict, which is probably most memorable because its physical aggression (and very... tense.)
Tumblr media
(yes i cut out over half of that moment the file size was massive im sorry)
We see from the Carol gif before and in this one that he gets aggressive. One shove when Steve yells at Carol, then the second Steve pushes back he escalates and even after Steve stops responding we get Tommy slamming the car door and hitting the outside even as Steve is driving out.
Its much harder to tell with him what the deal is, especially since he doesn't get the same vulnerable looks as Carol does. I think you could headcanon him having a similar thing as Carol, or as just macho-jock bullshit he learned to stay on top, or even it all leading back to having a crush on Steve.
This also doesn't really prove or disprove Tommy's actual ability to fight (i remember seeing people talk about it but I can't remember specifics) since he could either be a solid fighter who knows how to hit and protect from a hit, or he's talking out of his ass and sticks to intimidation and blocking when he needs to. Again, up to you (i certainly don't know which I find more interesting yet)
I personally also like to think the three of them were really good friends for a while, at least since middle school (but im also a sap especially for best-friendships) I wish we could've seen more of how Carol was taking the split up in season 2 and maybe something from Tommy other than how he hangs out with Billy now. Maybe Carol and Tommy split after Steve left, maybe it happened when Tommy tried replacing Steve with Billy in their trio, maybe they never split and Carol avoided Steve afterwards.
(tho i am kinda glad the story let them go after 2 seasons, we get a lot more room to play around with what-ifs and read into their scenes)

I've let my thoughts on What If marinate and I now come back with full annoyance.
Peggy: It looks just like him, Howard, just like Bucky. Howard: I heard the rumours, but even if they were true, the man we knew is long gone, Peg. And we have bigger fish to fry.
Later on, when Bucky is ordered to fire on Peter Quill, it's interesting that Bucky doesn't shoot until the Russian gives order to shoot several times, which suggests to me that Bucky is still in there even before Howard came on.
After Howard intercepts the transmission, this exchange happens:
Howard: It's just you and me, pal. Bucky: There is no me. Howard: Bucky, when you see that kid all you see is a target, but I see a future. The life he can lead, the good he can do. And I see it in you too. Bucky: You don't know me. Howard: Steve Rogers does. The man he knew, the friend he loved, would never take that shot.
Firstly, Bucky saying "there is no me" is big ouch. Secondly..."who the hell is Bucky?" or are we going to retcon that iconic line too?
Thirdly...and the bit that really annoys me, is that it's mighty rich of Howard to come in and say, "I see a future...the life you can lead, the good you can do" when just a few hours prior (in canon time) he said not to intervene because "the man we knew is gone".
So which is it, Howard? That Bucky is still in there and has always been a good man, or the man is long gone and isn't worth saving?
And I feel like it annoys me because this has been the MCU's approach to Bucky the entire time. This dehumanisation of him, not just from the bad guys, but from the "good" guys too. Remember when Sam said to Steve "he's not the kind you save, he's the kind you stop" and "(he'd do the same for you) in 1943 maybe"? Everyone recognises that Bucky had his humanity stripped away from him, but no one recognises the man underneath is still human and still suffering, and very few people (i.e. only Steve and maybe at a stretch T'Challa) considers that man worth saving. It's utterly vital to note that Howard only called upon Bucky's humanity because it was useful for him in the moment.
God knows why Howard couldn't have just reasoned with him like a normal person and explained they needed Peter to come back and fight against Ego because that was their only chance at defeating the Celestial. Actually, I do know, it's because they want to make Howard (and by extension Peggy) seem like the good people who still cared for Bucky. Except they didn't! They only cared when their own asses were on the line!
It's just such an...upsetting view point to me, that a victim was only worth saving based on how useful they could be, and not based on the fact that they were a victim and needed help; that a victim was only worth saving if they weren't too broken, because it was too much effort to give them a chance to put their humanity back together.
And...I don't know. It just seems like an extraordinarily bleak world view.

Sunday Morning
Tumblr media
Pairing: Steve Harrington x FemReader
Warnings: fluff, mentions of trauma
Summary: Based on the song Sunday Morning by Maroon Five. In other words, Steve has considered running away from Hawkins every day considering all the trauma and heartbreak he’s endured here. Yet he can’t bring himself to do it because he doesn’t want to risk losing you. Especially since he can’t guarantee he’d ever see you again. So he’d rather continue to suffer here, as long as he has you.
word count: 700+
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Steve woke up to the sound of light rain drops on the window sill outside his bedroom. The clouds painted the sky a bright white, a normal spring rain coating the side of the house. He hums in contentment as his eyes flitted to see his alarm read 10:05am. He felt a chill reach his arms and he looked to see you had curled up in most of his sheets. Smiling he lightly tugged them from your grasp, covering himself and nudging his skin flush against yours. He looks up at the grey sky and you move to fit perfectly against him.
“Morning handsome” you hummed against his chest and he smiled, realizing he didn’t need good weather to have a bright day. At least he had you by his side.
“You sleep good?” he asked this because you experienced nightmares, like the most of them. The horrors of Hawkins had tainted you all, now it was much harder trying to have a good night sleep never feeling 100% safe.
“Yes, I actually did” you smile at him, still buzzing with sleep. It was Sunday morning, you had nothing urging you to leave the comfort of his arms. This is proven to be true when you snuggle deeper into him, eyes closing with more sleep. Steve feels his heart yearn for you in ways he can't explain. All he knows is that he would glady hit the road and go as long as it led him back to you. After these last three years in Hawkins living life had just gotten so crazy and hard to do. Knowing that as long as he had you it would be all he ever needed.
"What do you want to do today?" he whispers to you, leaning down to press a soft kiss to your forehead. He doesn't even remember that it's storming outside. You're the only thing he can focus on. The only person he can see, even in the darkness of the upside down. So he will take lazy sundays, resting your bones together, driving slowly throughout the day. He never want's to leave.
"Stay in bed" you mutter into his chest and he chuckles as he begins to rub his hand down your side. His fingers trace every outline of your figure, paiting a picture with his hand. He loves the way you both had faced the worst of things, things that should tear people apart. Swaying together like branches in a storm and when the weather changes you're still together. So he accepts this may be all he needs. You, him, and lazy Sunday mornings. He never wants to leave.
"You don't have to ask me twice" he says as he rolls you to your back. Suddenly Steve Harrington's hovering over you, sheets spilling around each others bare skin and you giggle loudly as he leans down and kisses you. His pelvis pushing into your own and even though you'd much rather escape the nightmare of Hawkin's you know it would be useless because you would always come right back to him. Right back home and he may not know but it's all you need.
Sunday morning rain and calling out to him. So you deepen the kiss, hands curling into his hair because you'd rather fight a hundred demogorgan’s than ever leave his side. You relish in the taste of cherries on his lips and how sweet his skin sticks to your own. He's everything you love wrapped up in a perfect package and you'd never trade it for the world. When he pulls away for a breath you don't let him escape so easy, lips finding his neck, and fingers grazing through chest hair. He groans out for you, so well practiced in working him over. Yet with determination he still reaches over to the night stand where a vase of fresh flowers sit, your own personal touch. When you pull away from his neck he places the flower he stole in your hair.
"What's that for?" you ask and he just smiles at you. He wishes to be that flower in your hair, always with you. He supposes he is.
"Just for being you, and loving me" he says and your heart melts all over again for the boy above you.
"I love Sunday mornings with you"

WINTERDAD AU #1
(part one because this got way too long. this is essentially the plot of an old fic i started back in 2020 and what would've happened of i'd continued it. i might try and write it again one day, perhaps, if i don't give up after 2 chapters. anyway here we go)
- mary parker was a shield agent when she met the winter soldier, both were on a mission. they fought, but never got as far as mortally wounding each other. mary would always slip away. it was like a game. bucky had been kept out the ice for a few weeks at that point, running a long job. but the longer he's out, the more he starts to remember little pieces, who he used to be.
- mary feels pity for him, seeing through the stone cold image hydra forged for him, to the person within. they fight. but then they also talk. they keep seeing each other while bucky scouts. eventually one thing leads to another and they develop a relationship of sorts.
- mary later discovers she's pregnant but bucky never finds out. he's taken back, wiped and put under the ice once more. mary quits her job at shield so she can provide for her kid and keep them safe. knowing full well if anyone in shield or hydra caught wind that she was carrying the winter soldiers child, they'd never be safe.
- she's sad that bucky disappeared again, she knows hydra likely had him wiped and iced again. but she moves on, meeting richard soon after who she tells she's expecting a son, that the father disappeared without a word (technically not a lie) he tells her he'll love him like he's his regardless.
- when her son is born she names him peter james parker (during the few weeks they met, the last time they talked, bucky ended up remembering his first name, mary wanted peter to have at least a piece of him)
- peter ends up looking a LOT like bucky. he has the same shade of dark brown hair, facial structure which shows as he grows. but he has mary's eyes)
- the plane crash was really just an unfortunate incident. peter still goes to live with aunt may and uncle ben when he's seven. and then things go as they usually do in canon. the avengers form, yada yada all that stuff, you know the drill.
- when he's 14 peter is bitten by the radioactive spider. BUT. an important detail here is that due to the expiermentation bucky was subjected to by hydra and the enhancements which altered his genes, some of that, though remaining dormant, passed onto peter. but it didn't really do anything, it was just there. but it did keep him alive after the spider bite. without those enhancements in his blood peter would've died. instead, he gained his powers.
- uncle ben still gets shot, which as usual influences peter to become spider-man. and months after tony still comes along and recruits him to fight in germany. peter does.
- when he briefly faces bucky ("you have a metal arm? that is AWESOME, dude!") neither know so that also goes as normal. bucky is bewhildered by the kid who managed to block a hit with so much force behind it, while also shocked to know that he was just that, a kid.
- now one vastly different thing here is that while the avengers do split for a good year, steve and tony eventually talk and make amends. the avengers reassemble, deciding that they need to put the world before their feud. they're not on super good terms, but they tolerate each other. tony still refuses to forgive bucky.
- homecoming happens during the time where things are still rocky between the avengers so peter still deals with vulture alone. but he does see tony more often, stopping by for lab days to work on his suit among other things, to keep up the "internship" charade. tony grows fond of him, though he doesn't admit it.
its post homecoming where things start to go wrong.

👉👈 could i request another lil ficlet that includes steve getting comfortable with his body as it changes over time, that shit is so healing
Hi anon, of course you can!! I love getting requests, even though I might take a bit to answer them!!
I'm going to take this one in a slightly different direction, if that's alright with you. I've got a couple of thoughts about Steve and migraines that I'm using this opportunity to share.
(For those who missed it, this ficlet is the one anon is referring to!)
Steve thought, like most people, that his twenties would be filled with adventure. He'd get to party, make mistakes, learn about himself, and have fun. He'd go places and find a place to call home and maybe even a person, too.
But he's twenty years old, and at least once every two weeks, he's out of commission because his brain decides to scream at him.
Scream is probably too kind of a word. Jackhammer through his eye socket fits better, but that takes too much effort to say.
Today is one of the jackhammer days, and Steve doesn't even get all the fun warning signs and the aura before it sets in because he wakes up to pain so bad that opening his eyes feels monumental.
Woo-hoo, twenties!
He rolls over to smash his face into his pillow. It blocks out the light, and the pressure helps, but being face-down is going to make him nauseous in a few minutes.
What he'd give to be normal.
A hand snakes its way into his hair, lightly ruffling it, and while, normally, Steve considers himself exceptionally lucky and ahead of the curve (for once) for already having found his person to call home, right now he wishes he were alone.
Not really. The hand in his hair has to go, though. It's too much when breathing hurts.
He groans and tries to move out of the way, but that hurts, too.
"Oh, shit," Eddie whispers, taking his hand away. "Migraine day?"
Steve hums, though it ends up being more of a whimper.
"Okay," Eddie says.
The bed shifts next to Steve, and the sound of footsteps appears and disappears. Before Steve musters the courage or willpower to turn back over and open his eyes, the bed dips again, and gentle hands are rolling him over.
He groans in anticipation of the light, but it doesn't hit his eyes. Eddie must have closed the curtains.
"Water is on the nightstand, along with your meds. I don't know how much they'll help now, but if you can stomach them, I think you should take them," Eddie says softly. "Do you want the ice pack?"
Steve nods, just barely.
Gently, Eddie places the ice pack, already wrapped in a towel, on his forehead. Steve sighs when the cold makes contact with his skin.
"Sorry," he rasps. He's glad Eddie brought him water, even if he can't make himself grab it yet. His voice is a wreck.
"What for?" Eddie asks, lightly running a hand up and down Steve's bare arm.
"Making you do this."
Eddie huffs. Steve cracks his eyes open to see him frowning, like he expected.
"You don't make me do anything," Eddie says. "Do I make you do anything on the days my nerve pain flares?"
"No," Steve mumbles.
It's just not fair. The monsters are dead and gone. Steve is young and strong and hot and able, except for the days when he isn't. He shouldn't have days when he isn't, not when the shit that caused them is dead.
He wishes this was something like the Mind Flayer. Something that could be exorcised from him or cut out like a tumor. Something that can be killed.
Steve is good at killing things. He isn't good at fighting by standing down.
"So, we have a day in," Eddie says, still quiet. "I wanted to finish my book, anyway. Mind if I read next to you?"
"Sounds good," Steve says.
He closes his eyes again, hears the rustling of sheets as Eddie gets settled in next to him.
It does sound good. Eddie has a way of spinning things, of distracting them both from both of their pain.
Steve wishes he could see himself in Eddie's eyes. He wonders what he'd look like. He wonders about the thoughts that Eddie doesn't share.
He's long grown past the misguided belief that those thoughts are bad.
Steve isn't good at fighting by standing down. But he thinks, as the light sound of Eddie's steady breathing and the blissful dark and the pleasant cold of the ice pack start to lull him back to sleep, despite the pain, that he doesn't have to fight. That this is just a condition of existence, just something to be lived with.
Not an enemy. Just baggage. And Steve can use his arms to hold it instead of swing.
He isn't normal. Neither is Eddie. And that's okay, too.

okay listen i know we're all ronance bitches (me definitely included) but also may i present to you: chrissy doesn't die, finds out about the supernatural shit along with eddie, joins the teen group and becomes robin's new crush
i mean it's canon to me that eddie and chrissy are besties (it's cool if you ship them btw i think it's cute too i just personally hc eddie as gay) so just IMAGINE
chrissy didn't die at the trailer but shit happened anyway and eddie's still wanted
jason finds out chrissy was hanging out with eddie and goes on his whole "he's the vessel to the devil and a satanic cult leader" rant, makes her parents lock her at home and convinces everyone eddie brainwashed her and that's the only reason she claims he's innocent and a good person
she runs away in the middle of the night, goes to dustin cause she knows eddie's close with him, finds about the whole upside down thing and volunteers to help them
the fruity four are now the fruity five
everything else is basically the same except with someone else cursed by vecna in the hawkins gang along with max
the fav song queued up on her walkman for emergency purposes is Don't You (Forget About Me) by simple minds because i feel like the breakfast club would be her favourite movie
robin giving chrissy her jacket to wear cause she ran away in her thin pajamas and looks cold
eddie fussing over her and freaking out about how she should have staid home and everyone is hunting him down and her boyfriend's crazy and she can't be seen with them and it's dangerous but she just smiles and says "see, you do worry. not mean and scary at all."
robin going on her pretty girl panic ramble and chrissy giggles instead of thinking she's weird
the two of them would be the ultimate "she wears short skirts, i wear t-shirts, she's cheer captain and i'm on the bleachers" trope except with the sapphic twist of said nerd and cheerleader falling in love with each other instead of the guy from the lyrics
once the fight's won and life's back to normal she officially dumps jason's sorry ass and starts hanging out with people she actually likes
she's still cheer captain and The Queen of Hawkins High, just with a nerdy and socially awkward girlfriend and a metalhead bestfriend
steve starts driving her to school too (since eddie already drives himself and max)
her and eddie go bother steve and robin at work on the weekends
they go on quadruple dates all the time: steve+eddie, robin+chrissy, nancy+jonathan, argyle+his van (or his pot or eden, depends on who's available)
JUST GIVE ME MORE CHRISSY CONTENT SHE WAS WAY TOO CUTE TO LAST ONLY ONE EPISODE
AND GIVE ROBIN A SWEET GIRLFRIEND WHILE YOU'RE AT IT PLEASE

Who of the boys would be more of a cat and who would be more of a dog person?
Rewatching Narcos currently andJavi P seeking justice for Murphys cat was the animal love I needed.
I know he says he’s not much of a cat person but the way he treated it.. cat man 🧐🫶
Featuring: Javier Peña, Joel Miller, Agent Whiskey, Dave York and Marcus Pike
A/N: aww this is a very good idea!!! I love it honey! Also, I have a feeling all the Pedro boys lean towards dogs, but that doesn't mean they won't go soft with a kitty 🐈
Tumblr media
Javier Peña: Javi likes dogs better, there's no argument towards that, he grew up around dogs on his dad's ranch and he loves how strong and loyal they are, however, that doesn't mean Javi is insensitive towards cats, we all have seen how fierce he was to fight for the fact that cat was DEA as much as Steve and himself were, even if there was a tiny comical hint to it; Javier isn't a huge cat person, but he does have a soft spot for them, they are cute sometimes and amongst all the violence he has encountered through his life, he thought he would lose that empathy towards smaller things, but he was very wrong, so once he saw a stray kitty fumbling around the garbage to look for food and it made his heart break, he didn't know why exactly, but he was so tired of seeing the evilest side of people, it felt just too unfair such a tiny cute little creature starve on the streets, which caused Javier to feed the cat leftovers of his meals which quickly became a habit and now the cat is fat and he doesn't know what to do
Tumblr media
Joel Miller: Joel Miller is 100% dog person and there's no argument about that at all, although after he grew up and had to take care of a house and a baby daughter on his own, he decided to have a no pet rule: money was tight and so was time, taking care of a baby, and then a toddler and then a child and then a teen was exhausting as it was, so he didn't have time for bullshitting with cats or dogs. In fact, getting a puppy was the only request Sarah has ever made him and he managed to remain strict and not let her have it. However, he knows his daughter pets all the neighbor's pets and he's okay with it. Now, if you have a cat, you can expect Joel getting into a grumpy old man mood™ he is just going to complain about the cat and he is going to swear that cat is up to no good, plotting against him because its so jealous of you. He will definitely have arguments with your cat
"get out of my guitar now!"
"meow"
"I swear... get off my truck or I'll kill you!"
"meow"
And well, sometimes it kind does seem your cat is teasing Joel by sitting on his truck hood or sitting on his beloved guitar; if Joel is reading some work papers on the kitchen table you can bet your life your cat will climb all the way just to sit ON the papers and make Joel's blood boil, and you'll de damned if that ain't the funniest shit you'd ever seen; but hey, sometimes after you went to bed, your cat nuzzles Joel's body and your tough boyfriend actually pets your cat, but it's their secret and neither of them will ever admit it 🤫
Tumblr media
Agent Whiskey: our sweet Jack loves animals! He is a farm boy after all, and that means he absolutely adores every single living thing. Of course he likes dogs and cats like everyone else, but those aren't his favorites, if anything, Jack is the kind of man to have farm animals as pets as if it was the most normal thing in the world. As a grown man, Jack has his own ranch, and he keeps all the animals he likes there: he's got cows, horses (his big passion), pigs, chickens, goats, bunnies, dogs and a few cats in the barn because someone needs to catch those damn mice, since he hates killing any kind of animal, he leaves it for the cats to chase down the mice and if he finds spiders in the house he'll definitely just throw them outside. He loves birds and fish but he'd rather watch them out in nature than have them trapped in birdcages of fishbowls; he's not a big fan of frogs but he doesn't mind them at all and his biggest childhood trauma was when little Jack befriended a very cute little pig and the two of them became quickly inseparable, playing together and hanging out all the time, he even named his pig Hector™ until one Sunday morning he woke up to see his friend gone and later, mama Daniels had made pork chops for lunch ☠️ Jack cried his little heart out, refused to eat lunch and spent years without eating pork, until this day he feels kind of guilty to eat bacon or something, he doesn't kill any of his own ranch animals to cook, he just goes to the supermarket to get the meat
Tumblr media
Dave York: Dave had always loved dogs from a young age, when he was little, his dog Sprinkles was his best friend and he still keeps old pictures of himself and his old friend in the back of his memory boxes. Once he grew up and he got into his... business... he realized dogs are the safest option for a pet; they are very rational, they can be trained and protect the house and the owners against threats or burglars. If his kids beg him for a puppy, he will never say no to them, but it will be frustrating to him that they will pick the cutest and fluffiest puppy over the one breed he thinks it's safer for the family, statistical saying. However, how happy they get will make him think of Sprinkles and soon enough he will become those dads who treat the family pet better than his own kids. He will definitely doze off on the couch and the dog will be curled up to him. Dave also admires the felines and mostly how neat and careful they are. They are silent and are able to sneak into a room without anyone noticing, exactly like Dave does when he's out working, he likes how cats are independent and always take care of themselves, however, the idea of having a cat never occurred to him, but well... never say never
Tumblr media
Marcus Pike: that man is the human version of a golden retriever, so he obviously would prefer dogs. He has thought of getting a dog some time but he hasn't made up his mind yet, on one hand, he would like to have a puppy waiting for him at home so he won't be too lonely, but on the other hand, dogs are a lot of trouble and he doesn't know if he will be able to actually take care of it, not to mention dogs remind him a lot of the perfect image of a happy family, you know, a husband and a wife and kids, something Marcus would love to have but he hasn't been too lucky with it lately! He does like cats too, but the thing is: he is allergic to cats, and I don't mean just a slight allergy, I mean sneezing, coughing, red puffy eyes, stuffed nose etc, so cats are definitely a big no to him!

I gotta talk about one of my favorite details in RiD 🔥It's a moment that puts the story in storyboarding! While this is only one of many such moments throughout the show, this one is definitely more, ahem, in your face :) than some other, more subtle parallels. This moment is split between two scenes; the first in S2E2, "Overloaded, Part 1"; the second is the bookend partner to that, coming in S2E2, "Overloaded, Part 2." (Spoilers for S1 and S2 below, obviously) Also, I suppose I should warn that this is a long post, because I have many words about this :)
Tumblr media
By the end of the first season, Bumblebee has proved himself the worthy leader Optimus always knew he could be. 'Bee has overcome Megatronus, saved the Allspark from merging with the Antispark (and thus, spared both Earth and Cybertron from imploding), and even found a catchphrase that fits his leading style! Yay! What a great way to end a season. After such a high point in his life, however, the writers know that to start the next season off, they need Bumblebee to face a particularly rough challenge. If he's going to keep growing as a character, as a leader, he can't always be riding the high of victory. He needs a new catalyst. Therefore, Season 2 starts off by throwing him a curveball: a Decepticon from his past, that once injured him severely in the war, infiltrates the scrapyard pretty much immediately after Optimus, Bumblebee's greatest support, has vanished through the ground bridge.
Tumblr media
When this Decepticon, Overload, arrives, Bumblebee recognizes him instantly. His entire demeanor darkens with rage so suddenly that Grimlock and Strongarm can't help but notice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Bee Team will learn later on that Bumblebee has a personal score to settle with Overload, but for now, they can only watch as their normally levelheaded leader throws himself at Overload, fists flying. While hand to hand combat isn't unusual for Bumblebee, in this moment, it feels wrong for him to launch into that—given all the times prior where we've seen him first, coolly and calmly, take a step back to handle an active Decepticon threat. Not to mention, Bumblebee makes no move to brandish either his gun or his Decepticon Hunter; he just wants to punch this 'Con's lights out. Overload beat him up in the past, and he wants to return the favor. The first occasion where Bumblebee punches Overload, the perspective feels extremely familiar. The camera doesn't need to show off this particular view to show Bumblebee's anger, per se, but the makers of the show choose to position the camera like so. Clearly, the storyboard wishes for us to recall a scene we've seen before. It didn't take me long to think of it: the first time we see Bumblebee fighting in TFP! This screenshot on the right is from the very first episode, "Darkness Rising, Part 1." When Arcee needed backup against Eradicons, Bumblebee came and decked Steve right in the face. Bam. Look at those sparks flying! (I'll get to that later.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What is most interesting to me about this moment in RiD as compared to the moment in TFP is: in RiD, Bumblebee should be exemplifying how he's gained valuable combat experience since his younger days. However, in TFP, when Bumblebee punched Steve, his motion was very precise, very direct. in RiD, when Bumblebee tries to punch Overload, his arms swing far looser, far wider than that.
Tumblr media
It's a bit easier to see in motion, so if you're curious, I highly recommend watching the episodes yourself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notice how TFP Bumblebee, Scout Bumblebee, uses his left arm to map out his bullseye, preparing his right arm to swing in for a tightly controlled punch. He's aiming before he launches, whereas RiD Bumblebee, Warrior Bumblebee, mind you, isn't taking time to aim. He's just firing punches willy-nilly, because he's fragging mad. He doesn't care about accuracy; he cares about hitting Overload as hard as he can, as fast as he can. It's such a wonderful way to convey just how upset Bumblebee is regarding Overload; his battle style is reverting back to his rookie days. He's subconsciously slipping into bad habits because his hurt has taken the psychological wheel, and his emotions can't throttle back so long as that's driving him. Even if you're unfamiliar with the parallel scene from TFP, the animation of RiD makes it clear to the viewer's eye that something about Bumblebee's fighting style is off. And, if the big, sweeping motions perhaps aren't obvious enough to the viewer, Overload easily dodges or deflects most of Bumblebee's wild attacks, making it strikingly clear. In watching the RiD scene and the TFP scene side by side, you may also have noticed that the TFP punch is far more satisfying, because we get to hear the big metal KAPOW as Bumblebee clocks Steve's face. This sound effect, combined with the shower of slow motion sparks, invigorates the viewer because look at how cool Bumblebee is! Wow! What a spectacle! Epic!
Tumblr media
With Overload, however, we receive no such hype. No sparks go flying, even when Bumblebee manages to land a hit, because we're not supposed to feel that this battle is going well. We're supposed to feel a little uncomfortable, like we can sense something is missing, something is wrong, because Bumblebee isn't at the top of his game, and he won't be, so long as he remains lost in his anger. Ah, but fortunately for our favorite Prime in Disguise, this isn't the end! Compare that first attack on Overload in the first episode to his final attack on Overload in the second episode!
Tumblr media
By this point, Bumblebee has realized the folly of his mindless rage. He had to get a little beat up again to reach this realization, but he has come to accept that he doesn't need the payback of revenge to be satisfied with his victory over Overload. He knows he needs to move on from the hurt of the past, and simply do what he was called to Earth to do: capture rogue Decepticons. He just needs to get the job done. So he does! In the screenshot above, notice how his form is much more controlled this time around. No more wild, swinging, rookie punches. This punch is focused, tight, and aimed. This punch channels the Warrior experience he's gained over years of fighting. This punch is heading home. And it hits hard.
Tumblr media
So hard, in fact, that sparks go flying. Slow motion sparks that feel quite familiar, almost as if they were meant to remind us of another equally satisfying visual moment. Hmm, I wonder what moment it could be? ;) All in all, I think these moments are beautifully set up and executed. The parallel to TFP isn't frame for frame in either RiD scene, but it doesn't need to be; both scenes are reminiscent enough that they trigger the audience's memory, strongly. As a final note, I would also like to point out that this episode ends on another glorious parallel between Bumblebee and Optimus ✨ When Optimus punches Polarclaw, the similarity is unmistakable.
Tumblr media
To grow beyond his rookie mistakes and lingering bad habits, Bumblebee has to learn let go of the hurt of the past. Only then can he become an even better leader than he is already, further reflecting Optimus Prime as he always has. The Prime in Disguise still has a bit farther to grow as Season 2 takes off, but he's on the right track; and after this encounter with Overload, 'Bee is even more ready to rev up and roll out.

Learning to Love 2
(Part 1, Part 2, Part 3,..)
Rating: Mature Relationship: Steve /Billy Tags: enemies to lovers, mention of parent's death (Steve's mom), mention of domestic violence Words: 1870
Tumblr media
Harrington's place is a solitary house in the middle of nothing, surrounded by the woods and nothing else. Billy appreciates the privacy; no noisy neighbors that might call the police if they hear a few screams, like it wasn’t a normal thing, and no one around to see him limp the day after. Not bad at all.
Neil was even proud of him when he told him that he was going to tutor the richest boy in town.
He literally said, "Kid, I'm proud of you." Which is a first in Billy's life.
If the big house and the heated pool didn't give away how rich Harrington's family is, the doorbell would, it sounds like the doorbell they have in the old big mansions and Billy is almost expecting a butler in a pressed uniform showing him the living room instead of his schoolmate.
"You came." Harrington says, almost surprised.
"Told you I would. Are you disappointed, pretty boy?"
Steve shrugs, moving from the door and gesturing to Billy to get inside. The house is super modern and cold, the living room seems ready to be the set of a sitcom, the kitchen is so clean that it almost shines and Steve's room is the most boring room he has ever seen; there is nothing personal, not a trinket, a picture, a sporting trophy, nothing at all, just a desk and few books there are lying on the side.
"Do you want something to drink?" Steve asks, annoyed.
"I'm not here for a courtesy visit, I'm here to help you because you are too stupid to do your fucking homework and you need a babysitter." Billy snarls, ready to fight, but Steve doesn't take the bait, he sits at his desk and stares at his books.
"Where would you like to start?" He asks, pointing at the pile of books.
"What do you need more help with?"
"Math."
"Let's start there."
Steve takes his book and opens it, staring at the first problem.
"Come on! It is an easy one!" Billy sighs, taking the book and quickly solving the problem while Steve stares blankly at him "Can you just concentrate a little for Christ's sake! You didn't even write the right numbers! Are you stupid? Can't you copy some fucking numbers?"
Steve flinches, moving away from Billy. Billy sighs, this is not going well. He takes a deep breath and thinks about the waves of the ocean, trying to calm himself and when he feels a little bit settled he asks "Why... why didn’t you write the correct numbers?"
"I did!" Steve replies, "I can copy some stupid numbers, ok?"
Billy stares at him for a long moment and he sees how the boy squints while reading.
"Do you wear glasses?" He asks and Steve glares at him.
"Of course I don't, jackass!"
"Well, maybe you should. Have you seen a doctor recently?" After Billy broke a plate on his head.
"I... I don't like doctors." Steve confesses blushing in embarrassment.
“Are you scared of doctors?” Billy mocks him and Steve turns his face, avoiding Billy’s stare “Are you serious?”
“I’m not scared… I just… I don't like them.”
Billy stares at him for the longest time before Steve finally cracks. “When mom went to the hospital… she never came back, ok? I know that’s stupid but I can’t deal with the smell of disinfectant ok? And I’m young and healthy, I don’t need a doctor!”
Billy can understand the fear of the doctors, the few times Neil brought him there with a broken arm or to fix his nose, he was always terrified that those doctors, who asked so many questions about how he got hurt, would have taken him away. Living with Neil was no fun, but living in a foster family didn’t sound much better either.
“I’m not saying you should do a complete checkup, I’m just suggesting that you might want to see an eye doctor, so maybe everyone will stop thinking that you’re stupid.”
“I don’t give a shit about what everyone else thinks about me! I was their fucking god and now what? You came to town, took my place and all my friends forgot about me. I guess they weren’t my friends after all and you are not my friend either! And I don’t need to study all this stupid shit because I’m going to work with my father as soon as I get out of high school! So what the fuck do you want from me? I’ll give you a good review, I’ll say that you were the best tutor ever. Let me copy you from your test and we’ll be good!”
Billy shakes his head “No.”
“What?!”
“No. I will not let you copy from me and I don’t give a fuck about your stupid opinion of my tutoring skills. I just gave you a suggestion, you don’t want to follow it? Fine.” Billy replies, ready to get back to his place. Harrington is avoiding his stare, he is clenching his fists so hard that his knuckles are white.
“Stop being such a baby. You can’t take any criticism!”
“What about you? You come here, to my house, telling me that I’m either stupid or blind! What did you expect?” Steve snaps.
Billy gets up, grabs his things, and pushes them in his backpack. Fuck Harrington! Billy doesn’t have to help him! He doesn’t owe him anything! It’s not his fault if his sight is shitty!
Only… maybe it is.
Only… Steve actually tried to help Max.
Only… Billy is not the dickhead he pretends to be.
“I could… I could come with you.” He suggests, keeping his back to Harrington, his hand on the handle of the door.
“And what? Hold my hand like a fucking child?” Steve snarls, throwing what’s left on the desk to the ground.
Billy dares to turn, this time it’s Steve who has his back turned. “If that’s what you need.” Billy steps forward, not daring to touch the other boy but wanting to let him know that he is there, that he is listening “Where is your father?”
“Russia? China? Don’t remember. He must have written it on the calendar, I don’t really check anymore.” Steve replies and Billy sighs. He never really understood how lonely Steve must feel now that his friends have turned their back on him and even his girlfriend left him.
“Was she worth it?” Billy asks, and Steve’s shoulders stiffen “Was she worth losing your privileges? And your friends?”
“If I lost my friend it is not her fault. She is… She was… well, she was everything I wanted, the only problem was that I wasn’t enough for her.” Steve says in a self-deprecating tone. “It’s the story of my life. I’m not bad, but I’m never enough, no matter how hard I try. Even my father thinks that I’m not enough and he should know, right? He is my father.”
Billy gets closer to Steve and forces him to turn toward him, “Listen to me. You are the only one who knows your worth, ok? Not Wheeler, not your father, not those stupid boys at school! And if you keep repeating to yourself that you are not enough, you’ll end up believing that! So look me in the eye and tell me something good about you.”
Steve tries to free himself from Billy’s grip “What the fuck? I don’t do this stupid shit. If I needed a therapist…”
“Look me in the eye and tell me something good about yourself.” That’s a game Billy’s mother made with him every time Neil belittled him, and it worked every single time.
“I… I…”
“One thing, I know you can do it.”
“I’m… I’m brave.”
Billy smiles “Yes, you are. Good job, Harrington.” He tells him, patting his back, ready to leave.
“Hey…” Steve calls him, finally getting up from the chair. “Would you like to stay for dinner? I was going to order pizza and watch a movie.”
Billy stops, wondering if Neil would get mad at him “Can I call home? I’m not sure if Susan already cooked.”
“Sure. The phone is in the living room.”
Billy and Steve get downstairs and Billy calls home, it’s Susan who answers and tells him that Neil is not home yet but that he can stay out for dinner, he just has to be home by ten.
They order pizza and watch a movie and for Billy it is the first time ever. He never invited anyone to his place and he didn’t get invited much, always too unpredictable to be invited to someone’s home. Maybe that’s why he and Steve are perfect; Steve feels like he is not enough, and Billy feels that he is too much.
“Will you book a visit to the eye doctor? I’ll drive you.” Billy asks while they are watching an action movie.
“I don’t know.”
It’s not a yes, but it’s not a no either, so Billy nods and goes back home. As soon as he enters his father calls him, asking him where he was, and when he tells him that he was at Harrington’s house his father seems really pleased. “Those rich boys are always stupid, aren’t they? But my boy is so clever that he is the one who is going to help that stupid kid. You’ll do great things, I know, you are just like me.”
Every time that Neil says that they are similar Billy feels some disgust about himself. He doesn't want to be like Neil, and even if he knows that his outbursts are so similar to the one his father has, he is trying his best not to become like him. Waking up one day and seeing Neil Hargrove in the mirror is Billy’s greatest fear. Not being beaten to death by his father, not getting married to a woman he will never love because he likes boys, not being trapped in a life he knows he will hate every single day. The only thing that terrifies him, the only ones he prays from every night, kneeling on the side of his bed, folded hands and eyes closed, is not becoming like his father.
He always lived a life where he was always ready to fight for dominance and he is so tired of being alert at all times.
Max is sitting next to Susan, watching a television show together, “Steve’s house is so cool, right? Did you see the heated swimming pool?”
“We studied, I wasn’t there to have fun.”
“I know…” Max snorts “I just thought that maybe… but you are right. You are no fun!” She rebukes, finally leaving him alone.
Billy’s room is full of music posters, he has a big stereo and a vanity made with plastic crates where his few precious belongings rest: a strong male perfume, the same brand his mother bought him years ago, and the golden necklace he received as a gift for his christening.
He stares at himself in the mirror, somehow he feels a little bit less angry and skittish, is it possible that spending time with Harrington might really be beneficial for both of them?

My OC but I can't draw - The Widow
Maitreyi Jokhar (she/her & South Indian), Earth-206202, Present day, Spider-man/Black Widow (kind of) variant
I doubt anyone's gonna see this, but if you do and you like my character, let me know, cuz idk whether I should try to write stuff about her like other creators on Tumblr or if I should just keep her within the confinement of my mind lol.
Summary: She's basically the Black Widow if she was Spider-man and Indian. She went through a very similar process as the MCU Black Widow when it comes to her backstory. As for her suit, I got inspiration from Cindy Moon/Silk Spider and she basically wears a black face mask with a silver and black suit with straight black pants/jeans over them. She has her black hair pulled back in a braid that falls to her mid-back with curtain bangs to frame her face. For her backstory, I tried to make it as accurate to the MCU universe as I could because shes a product of H.Y.D.R.A, and I also tried to follow the storyline of ATSV but if there are any mistakes, please correct me! I made her bisexual and it'll briefly mention that below too. I'm going to ship her with Hobie Brown, cuz I'm obsessed with him, so some of that will be down as well. If you have any feedback or anything, that would be greatly appreciated, because I'm still pretty new to Tumblr and this is my first Spider-sona/OC! Also, if anyone can think of a better name for her, please let me know, cuz "The Widow" feels kind of cliche, lol.
This is a MEDIUM-LENGTH POST (About 1.2k words)
Backstory, Personality, Looks, Relationship, Fighting Style and Canon Events are all under the cut! 💜
I think I gave her too much trauma but whatever, character development and all that great stuff :p
Backstory:
Kidnapped and sold into child trafficking at the age of 5
Eventually forced into the Red Room/Black Widow Program from the ages of 7-14(the same one that Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow was subject to)
In this universe, the Red Room Program is an extension of Hydra
Chosen to be part of one of Hydra's new super-soldier experiments at the age of 15 after hundreds of failed attempts at replicated the super-serum used on Captain America during WWII
Gave her the same powers as the normal Spider-man except she has a limited amount of webs and has fangs which inject extremely deadly venom
Continued to be trained by Hydra until the age of 16, when the Avengers of her universe were finally able to find the base and invade it
Captain America/Steve Rogers of her universe took her in and treated her like a daughter, because she reminded him of Bucky who he lost in the war
She became an Avenger until her universe's version of Avengers Infinity War happened, except they weren't able to bring everyone back, and they were only able to get rid of the infinity stones
Half of the universe disappeared, including most of her Avenger friends
The world blamed superheroes for this and superheroes were no longer revered in this universe and were instead hated
She gave up her mask until she was eventually recruited by Miguel at the age of 18, only a few months after she gave it up
Looks:
I can't draw her out but this is what I imagine her to look like in my head
Fairly short, about 5'5ish
Black hair that she pulls back into a loose braid that falls to her mid-back with curtain bangs framing her face
Medium brown skin cuz she's South Indian, so probably an almond brown color with big dark brown eyes and long lashes
Wears a black face mask instead of a normal Spider-man mask, kind of like Silk/Cindy Moon's
Her suit is a black and silver spider-man suit and she wears straight black pants, kind of like straight jeans over them.
Has a big silver spider emblem on her back
Fingerless gloves to make it easier to stick onto walls
Has a side pocket in her pants where she hides a knife given to her by her version of Aunt May (expanded on in the canon events section of the post below)
Personality:
Cold, and doesn't really like to open up to people because of her trauma
When she does open up it comes out very emotionally and she kind of bursts
She has anger issues, and can get pretty heated, especially if she's performed badly during a mission or missed a punch during a fight
She beats herself up over little things, and expects perfection from herself (trauma)
She has a punching bag for this reason and she's always in the conditioning/training area of the Spider Society, trying to be better, to be the best
Despite this, she's really gentle and quiet around people she cares about (Hobie, Margo, Pav, etc...)
Doesn't enjoy physical touch unless its from someone she really cares about or feels safe around
Her love language is physical touch and quality time and if she's around someone she cares about, she'll constantly be touching them, whether its holding their hand, holding their finger or having her arm around their waist
Doesn't crack jokes like the average spider-man, has a very dry sense of humor when she does make jokes
Once someone get really close to her, she'll never let them go, always being really clingy and hugging on to them, cuz shes afraid of losing them like she lost everyone else
She never got the chance to be a kid, so she can seem a little clingy and childish at times.
She tries hard not to be, but its so difficult when she's so afraid of being alone again
Fighting Style:
She's very acrobatic
She tends to fight differently than the average Spider-person because she was trained to be more of an assassin
Uses anything in the environment she can get her hands on, like sticks, knives, sharp rocks, even pencils
Shes very handy with guns
Stopped holding back her punches after her canon event (expanded on in the canon events section of this post below)
Relationships:
After joining the Spider-Society, she met Hobie Brown and fell head over heels for him, although she would never admit it
He reminded her of Captain America/Steve cuz of how vocal Hobie is about his values and beliefs
Steve was the same way and she always admired that so it fueled her crush on Hobie
They became friends shortly after she arrived
She told Hobie about how people in her universe don't like superheroes after what happened and he immediately asked her if she wanted to stay with him in his dimension instead
She got very flustered but eventually said yes and now she stays in his spare room
He's trying to teach her how to play the guitar, but she's not that good at it
But she has a really nice singing voice
Sometimes she'll sit down next to Hobie when he plays the guitar and softly sing along to the music with her head on her knees
Its comforting for her and she likes being around him
Maitreyi isn't ACAB like Hobie, but she supports him either way, going with him to protests and being in the audience when his band plays
Since she was brought up in present-day she doesn't have as many bad experiences with racism as he does, but she, as a brown-skinned individual, has dealt with it before
She found that after moving to Brooklyn, there was a lot of prejudice against dark-skinned people, especially since she lived in the upscale, predominantly white neighborhood with her version of Aunt May
Because of this, she can somewhat relate to him, but not on the same level
Maitreyi also became close with Margo Kess/Spider-byte
They clicked when they first met
Margo likes to show Maitreyi all the cool tech she makes because her universe is a lot more advanced than Maitreyi's
She loves silently sitting in the corner while Margo works because she feels safe with her
She and Pavitr immediately clicked when they first met
Hobie introduced her to him and she was absolutely in awe of this optimistic, colorful young man who was basically the exact opposite of her in personality terms
They're both South Indian so they quickly bonded over their shared culture
Despite Maitreyi being South Indian, she does speak some Hindi, along with German, English and Russian
She doesn't speak her mother-tongue or even know what it is because she was taken from her parents so young, but she tried to learn Hindi after moving to Brooklyn because she wanted to be closer to her culture
Pav and Maitreyi talk in Hindi to each other sometimes, which confused Hobie whenever he's with them
She looks up to Miguel O'Hara
She thinks he's a good leader and aspires to be like him, even though she hates his justification of canon events
They have similar powers (they both have fangs) and he taught her how to talk without showing her fangs so she can be less intimidating
She likes Mexican food and they often go to the cafeteria together to eat empanadas and etc...
Both of them enjoy silence and quality time, so when they do get food together, they don't talk, they just quietly enjoy the vibes
Its the same with Jess Drew
She thinks she's freaking awesome
Jess was Maitreyi's mentor, similarly to how she was Gwen's mentor in ATSV
Jess taught her how to drive a motorcycle and she fell in love with it
Sometimes when she needs to blow off steam, she'll ask Jess to take her motorcycle out for a drive (She'll always say yes)
She does NOT like Peter B. Parker
She doesn't find him funny and doesn't like his vibes
She doesn't appreciate the fact that he brings his baby on dangerous missions, because she has a major spot spot for children
She DOES however love Mayday
She especially loves babysitting her with Hobie and watching him play with her
She finds it very comforting and sometimes she'll find herself staring at Hobie, just admiring his features and his voice and has to snap herself back to reality before he notices
He 100% has no idea about her major crush on him because he's kind of dense about those things
Also she's not vocal about it and tries her best to be inconspicuous about how attracted she is to him
Canon Events:
Maitreyi's first canon event was the experiment in which she gained her powers
It functions as her version of the "Spider-bite"
Her second canon event was losing Gwen Stacy
After being saved from H.Y.D.R.A. by the Avengers, she tried to live her life out as a normal teenager, under the protection of the S.H.I.E.L.D.
S.H.I.E.L.D wanted her to assimilate with the public quickly in order to prevent the possibility of her falling under the influence of H.Y.D.R.A again, and believed that by engaging with people her age and creating emotional connections, it wouldn't happen
They allowed her to use her powers to protect Brooklyn as they wanted her to hone her abilities in a safe way, while also being able to ward off the possibility of Kingpin, Green Goblin or any of the other New York villains becoming Avengers-level threats
She was given a new name, Mary-Jane Watson, and sent to live in Brooklyn under the protection of May Parker, a retired S.H.I.E.L.D agent
She met Gwen Stacy at Brooklyn High and fell in love with her
They dated for a few months and Gwen quickly found out that she was Spider-woman
Maitreyi lost Gwen Stacy during a battle with her nemesis, Norman Osborne/Green Goblin
Maitreyi dropped out of school immediately after Gwen's death and turned her attention toward becoming a full-time Avenger
She also got rid of the alias, Mary-Jane Watson, because she wasn't fond of it in the first place and started using her original name instead
Her third canon event was losing her mentor, Steve Rogers/Captain America
In her universe's version of MCU Infinity War, where Thanos collected all the infinity stones, they were only able to stop him by killing him
Thanos destroyed the stones right before he died, and dusted away 50% of the population
Iron Man/Tony Stark was one of those 50% and therefore, they were never able to travel back in time to get the stones or do any of the things that happened in MCU Endgame
Steve Rogers was one of the people who was snapped away as well and Maitreyi held his hand as he died
Her fourth canon event was giving up her mask
Only a week after Thanos happened, she threw away her mask and went back to live with May, who was perfectly willing to house her
About two months after she gave up her mask, Miguel approached her and asked to recruit her to the Spider-Society
At first she was hesitant, but she accepted, taking back her mask and once again becoming, The Widow
This is all before the events of ATSV by the way, I have no idea how I'm gonna introduce her to ATSV-Gwen Stacy or Miles yet lol
You must be exhausted from reading all this, so here's a Hobie to refresh you!
Tumblr media
Definitely one of my favorite pictures of him, he's so gorgeous mwah

Standing Up For Her–Steve Harrington
Tumblr media
Steve's POV
"Hey, can you still come by after school and help me with that essay?"
"Of course," Y/N smiled. She reached up and tucked a piece of hair behind her ear.
I loved when she did that.
"I thought we were going to. . ."
"Nope," I cut Tommy off. "Y/N's helping me with homework."
Tommy glared at me and I glared back. The bell rang, ending lunch, but we didn't move.
"Umm. . . Steve?"
I finally looked over to see Y/N looking up at me with soft eyes. "We don't want to be late for science."
I grabbed her hand and sent her a nice smile. I couldn't help but glare at Tommy as Y/N pulled me away. Ever since I introduced Y/N to Carol and Tommy, they've been horribly judgmental of her. Tommy more than Carol. He refused to accept her and Carol just went along with it.
He never quite caught on to the fact that if he asked, I'd drop him for her in a minute.
"I don't understand," Y/N sighed as we sat at our two desks in the back.
"What don't you understand, beautiful?" I asked as I reached over and grabbed her hand. She looked down at our hands, intertwining them.
"Why don't they like me?" She asked, barely audible.
"Tommy and Carol," I said more like a statement than a question. "Baby, please don't be worried about their opinion of you. It doesn't matter. What matters is what I think of you, and I think you're great."
She smiled before leaning over and pressing her lips gently to mine. We pulled apart when Mr. Stevenson obnoxiously cleared his throat.
                                * * * * *
"Where's your precious girlfriend?" Tommy taunted the second I got out of my car.
"She's at home studying."
"For what?" Carol scoffed.
"The science test we have on Friday."
"You mean the test that we were just told about? The one that's four days away?" Carol rolled her eyes. "She's literally the smartest person in our class. Why the hell does she need to study? She'll ace the test and ruin the curve for the rest of us normal people."
"Carol," I cut her off, "for once in your life, shut your damn mouth."
"What's your problem, man?" Tommy scoffed.
"You're both assholes, that's my problem."
"Are you serious?"
"Yeah," I scoffed. "I'm serious."
"Why do you even like to spend so much time with her?" Tommy scoffed.
"Because she's real," I said through my teeth. "I don't have to put on a facade around her."
"Do you hear yourself?" Tommy scoffed.
"Neither one of you ever cared about her," I said, my anger showing through in my voice. "You never even liked her because she's not miserable like you two! She actually cares about other people."
"She's a freak!" Carol laughed.
"Watch your damn mouth!"
"Hey!" Tommy said, pushing me. "I don't know what's gotten into you, man, but you don't talk to her that way."
"But you're allowed to talk to my girl that way?" I scoffed.
"It's Y/N," Tommy said as he rolled his eyes.
That comment deserved him a punch to the jaw. It took him a second to respond. When he did, I didn't hold back. The only thing that stopped the fight was Carol pulling us apart.
"What the hell is wrong with you, Harrington?" He yelled as he try to charge me, but Carol stopped him again. "What? Are you like in love with her or something?"
"Holy shit!" Carol laughed. "You're in love with Y/N."
"So what if I am?!" I scoffed. "Why is it so weird? I've known her since we were little. I've known her longer than I've known you."
"It's wimpy," Tommy scoffed.
"What's wimpy about a guy loving a girl?" Carol asked in a tone that would ultimately end in Tommy taking care of himself for a couple of days.
"It's just. . . I thought. . ."
"Go be with Y/N," Carol cut off Tommy without looking away from him. She finally looked at me and smiled. "And tell her what you just told us."
"Thank you," I whispered before turning on my heel and jogging to my car.
As I drove to her house, I nervously drummed my fingers on the steering wheel. Ever since Tommy made a comment about my feelings for Y/N, I have had this weird feeling. It was almost like my stomach was jumping around and it wouldn't settle down. As I pulled in front of her house, my heart was skipping so many beats I was surprised I was still alive.
I took a shaky breath, gathering my courage to get out of the car. When I finally did, I went around the house to Y/N's bedroom window. I instantly started climbing on their trash can, onto their roof, and over to Y/N's room. I knelt down and knocked on the window.
My heart jumped into my throat when Y/N moved her curtains aside. Her eyes widened. That's when I remembered my fight with Tommy.
"Steve!" She gasped as soon as she opened the window. "What happened to you?"
I couldn't help but smile as she grabbed my hand and helped me into her room. She didn't let go of me as she led me over to her bed. She sat me down and ran to her bathroom. She came back with a small first aid kit in her hand. I watched as she quickly and instantly started cleaning my cuts. As she did this, my eyes never left hers.
She finally broke the silence when she was done cleaning me up. "What happened?" She asked.
"It was nothing."
"Steve," she sighed, her voice breaking. "It doesn't look like nothing. You show up at my window, covered in bruises. It's not nothing. Please tell me what happened."
I reached up and tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, my hand lingering on her face.
"I got into a fight with Tommy," I whispered.
"What?" She gasped, moving her head so my hand fell away from her.
"It's not a big deal," I said quickly. "It was just a stupid fight."
"Why?"
"What?" I stuttered.
"Why did you guys fight?" She clarified. When I didn't answer her, she continued, "Steve, you and Tommy don't just fight. Something started it. Now, tell me what it was."
"It was you," I whispered. The look in her eyes dropped.
"Me?" She asked, her voice getting caught in her throat as she took a step away from me.
"He made some comments," I stood up as I tried to explain. "I stood up for you."
"Wait," she cut me off. "Are you saying. . . I'm the reason you and your best friend fought?"
"You're my best friend, Y/N," I corrected. "And no one gets away with insulting you in front of me."
"Steve," she stuttered.
"I love you," I cut her off. I heard her suck in a breath. I used her shock to my advantage. I grabbed her hands in mine as gently as I could.
"I'm madly, crazily, perfectly in love with you."
I laughed as Y/N quickly closed the gap between us by practically tackling me into a hug. We fell back on her bed as she pressed her lips to mine. We moved our lips messily in sync until neither one of us could breathe. She broke the kiss, hovering over me.

Oh would you so kindly expand on your Murray/that plotline™ thoughts? Btw I didn't remember it as a cheating situation but since it's been so long since watching that season i was taking other people's word for it. And yeah i don't think Murray did anything even if it was. like he didn't make them have sex.
I started to type out an answer to this ask, forgot to save it as a draft, and lost all of my thoughts, so apologies if this is a little disjointed but! I will do my best to give my thoughts coherently <3
I really do think the Murray thing is maybe a mischaracterization of his intentions, but also not the thing I care most about when it comes to narratives that deal with Steve/Nancy/Jonathan situation in season 2, because at the end of the day it's just another reframing of the same tired take tbh
I'll stick it under the cut though because I know I can be wordy
There's this, like, company line in this fandom that Steve and Nancy were just two teenagers who hurt each other, which I one hundred percent agree with, only that tends to be the company line everywhere except for the Steve-centric fics that get written about that plotline, which instead seem to frequently make an argument that "Nancy cheated on Steve, was cruel enough to cause long-term emotional damage, and then either is forced to grovel for forgiveness or be shut out of his and his friends' lives forever" which is. Not that. Right?
Fandom cultures at large, not just this one, are more willing to do empathetic, in-depth character analysis of male characters than they are female. This is something we know to be true and this is something that is noticable in how Nancy gets treated by fanon, especially when it comes to her relationship with Steve.
Because here's the thing, we could debate it all day (and I won't, for the record, if anyone's thinking about starting a fight) but for my part, what she did wasn't cheating. From the very first time I watched season 2 when it was released, I always read the Halloween fight and the morning after as a breakup.
HOWEVER, even if Nancy did cheat on Steve? It doesn't warrant the downright malicious Nancy characterizations that often feel ubiquitous to this fandom.
Even if Nancy did cheat, there is a refusal to look at the situation from her point of view, something which even Steve is canonically able to do by the end of season 2 (we'll get to that). Because there's more nuance here to take into account than just Nancy making a choice to specifically hurt or break Steve and there's more nuance here than Steve being incapable of moving on from this breakup.
In fact, if you really look at the choices both of them are making, it has very little to do with each other and everything to do with their own reactions to immense personal trauma and grief. Nancy has spent a year suppressing a mourning she's not allowed to experience out loud, and you expect her not to snap eventually?
Does personal hardship mean cheating is, like, a good thing (if that's the takeaway you're going with from canon)? No. Does it still wildly differ from the cruel and intentionally malicious version of Nancy that shows up in far too much fic? Yeah.
She's a teenage girl whose best friend died in a violent and preventable way at sixteen years old. Nancy tried to fit herself into Steve's coping strategies, tried to let it all go back to normal, and was visibly hurting in the process. She sought out comfort. Understanding. A chance to be heard.
It's a disservice to both of their characters to treat this like there's a "good" and "bad" guy, when the way they handle it in canon, the way Steve comes to terms with it (literally within days he is telling her to go with Jonathan, by the way), is all vitally important to their growth.
When Steve says "I may not be a very good boyfriend" that's not about him being down on himself or having low self worth, it's a moment of growth and self reflection/ awareness for him to acknowledge that in his efforts to make himself feel better, he also hurt Nancy. It's about him no longer being in the same bitter headspace of "what am I apologizing for?" that he was at the start of the season, and having the maturity to see that they don't work as they are at their current mental states, no matter how heartbreaking that may be for him.
And Nancy choosing to go with Jonathan is really just a continuation of everything she was doing in trying to get justice for Barb-- she's choosing to follow her heart after being trapped away from acknowledging it for so long.
In other words, not only does he not have reason to, but Steve doesn't hate Nancy, Steve doesn't hold a lifelong grudge against Nancy, Steve doesn't think Nancy is a cruel and unfeeling bitch, but fic authors sure seem to.
If it were just a handful of fics here or there, I wouldn't be so adamant about it, but it's such an ingrained narrative in this fandom that sometimes I think people have genuinely forgotten the canon context.
Don't strip them of their agency and everything they learn from getting together and falling apart by making Steve less emotionally competent and Nancy more borderline abusive than either of them are.
It's boring and it's sexist and it shouldn't be the norm.
but that's just my 2 and a half cents peace and love anon, hope this answered your question <3
