🎆 Sing for Absolution: behind the scenes 🎆

Hello everyone, and welcome to this summary on how the story was visually built! If you happen to come across this post and would like to read (or reread) the collab @drones-of-innocence and I have created together, just click on the title above and it will take you right to it! 🤗

With that said, let's begin! :D

As some of you already know, this was an idea that Drones had for a long time. It was brought up during one of our many conversations a few months ago, in which she briefly described the plot and sent me a condensed version. I- immediately and completely fell in love with the concept, so much so that I couldn't keep still. 😂💘 I practically begged Drones to let me draw a few frames for it, and she happily gave me permission. At first, what I intended to do was make about 3 or 4 thumbnails, like I had done with One Step Closer.

I returned with 22.

And from there, we both decided "Okay. Yeah. Let's make this official. 🙌💯" LOL

What's interesting here is that, as you can see, some frames didn't make it to the final cut! 🤓 And inversely, new frames were eventually added as the collab progressed. Out of all the sketches that were either abandoned or later deemed superfluous, my personal favorite would probably have to be this shot of Kamek. 😈

From the rough thumbnails I had presented, Drones helped me select the best and most eloquent ones, and I also changed a few other things along the way. For example, one panel that was entirely redone was frame 3 (where Mario enters Peach's room), because the initial composition didn't allow for the reader to see the setting very clearly, and I felt that the establishing shot needed to be wider.

Many of the drawings were also ultimately flipped to give the visuals a more coherent direction and better flow, including this one!

I decided pretty early on that the palette should be made of cold hues, seeing as these events happen to take place at night and that a warm overlay wouldn't adequately have conveyed the more ominous and solemn tone of the story in my opinion. 🤔💁‍♀️

Oh! And I almost forgot: using cold colors for the backgrounds and characters was also very convenient because it helped make the magical effects (the fire, the spells, etc- all the bright, warm and/or complementary nuances) really stand out, which resulted in a more interesting and visually striking contrast overall. 😌🎨

As I do with all my illustrations, I started by cleaning the sketches and adding a unifying background filler for all the frames. Then, I selected the colors I wanted to use (a gradient made of a mix of navy blue and purple) and worked on each drawing individually. Even with simple tones, we can observe the sheer difference that shading makes! 👀😉

There's a visual element that appears in the story and which I had borrowed from Drones before, and that would be Peach's healing magic.^^ ✨ I remember I was fascinated by the idea when I first discovered it in Un Fiore Per Te, which had prompted me to ask her if I could feature it in a piece where the Princess is seen using said power while at Mario's bedside in one of my other tangents. 💞

I kept the effect similar on purpose in Sing for Absolution, so that the slight reference would be easier to catch! 😊

And last but not least, there's that cheeky little Fire Flower! 🤭🔥

As mentioned in a previous ask, the flower actually signifies a lot in this case as it somewhat embodies the deeply affectionate bond between Mario and Peach, glowing brighter and closing its eyes in happiness when the two are close. 💖

While admittedly not the first drawing I made in which a Fire Flower appears, the one that actually inspired both Drones and I to include this symbolic power-up in the story was one that I made all the way back in February for Valentine's Day. 🥰 The subtle yet direct reference can be spotted twice in the text, linking this piece to the collab and establishing a bit of a chronology as well. I was very honored that Drones added this small detail, and I very much look forward to working on more ideas with her in the future! 😁🤝

it's been a while since I've done rendering using my ways, so it looks a lil cranky for me, esp the lips--anyhow, the special occasion for today is of course..studying! yayyyy 😁..

since exams are now actually gonna happen this week, I'll most likely be inactive again. for how long? not sure either, probably once I recover LMAOO

When you think you've seen it all, it turns out there's more than meets the eye.

This will show spoilers from Captain Laserhawk manga Crushing Love and also it will brings some Splinter Cell lore, so watch out if you don't want to get spoiled.

.

This little discovery had showed me a different take of the Captain Laserhawk lore and probably will be answering some questions (or create more *I am creating more questions than ever and the anxiety to know*).

It looks like Anna Grimsdöttir got a role in Dolph past

For some that are not familiar who Anna Grimsdöttir is, she was an ally of Sam Fisher during The Splinter Cell games and books, she was the Communications Lead later Chief Technical Analyst for Third Echelon and then became Technical Operation Officer during her Fourth Echelon era. She provided Sam with technical support during his field work also adressing any high - technology issues and a skilled hacker.

In this panels we see how Dolph tells his story with Alex (Grim was the only lady who could Boss Alex and he would not complaint, that means the situation was bigger than anything) and suddenly Marcus is surprised by seeing Ana and mentions that she was part of the war (I assumed he was mentioning about the Wastelands War), who provided Intelligence and saved Sam and Marcus many times and after they Lost, she went missing, not knowing about her whereabouts...

Now with this little revelation, It looks like there more than meets the eye, I can't tell everything yet because It looks like I need to read the rest of the manga, but how the things are going, there will be many revelations that could unite the missing links of the series' lore and this could be a twist to some questions that are unaswered.

Remember the last episode where a Rayman was send a message about going to see Bullfrog? Some assume many characters that would had sent that messege, but now with seeing this revelation about Grim, I can believe she could have been the one who send it. It looks like Anna was willing to stop Eden, too and the reason why she and Alex were working together, also there is something curious about a dialogue of Alex telling Grim if Dolph is not able to do his part he could talk to the Arms Dealer Andy (some that are not familiar with the Splinter Cell lore would past it unnoticed, but if I am correct, or I am assuming many things, Alex would had been referring to Andriy Kobin, an arms dealer who was enemy of Sam Fisher during Splinter Cell Conviction, then a temporal ally in Splinter Cell Blacklist).

So... Here it is this little discovery and man, there is a lot to be reveal and to see this, brings me a Big joy to know that more Splinter Cell characters are around the Captain Laserhawk serie, meaning that that maybe Sam will have a bigger part in Dolph's role in Season 2 (I really hope so). 🥺🥺🥺💚🖤💚🖤💚🖤💚🖤

Oh!!! Almost forgot, Anna design in the manga looks like the design from Blacklist more than anything.😁😁😁😁💞💞💞💞💞💞

Warriors 💞💞💞💞 - LU Update Analysis - Warriors Throughout the Sunset Arc

First of all, I must reiterate, I love his wave SO much

It's a nice little comedic break in between Time being so so so sad. And it's in response to a really heartfelt conversation and a genuine compliment from Time, and Wars just 👋

It is everything to me.

Ahem, anyway, Wars has been stepping up these last few updates. Going all the way back to the beginning of the sunset arc, Warriors was sitting with Twilight while Time and Sky are trying to figure out the deal with the fairy not working / the monster's weapon.

I usually think of Wars as the planner of the group, but he's more of a battle strategist, so it makes sense he's not part of that conversation. Instead, he's trying to make sure Twilight is okay emotionally and isn't thinking too much about what's going on

He remembers little facts Twilight has told the group about his life, and brings those up when Twilight brushes off his first attempt.

And he's smiling, and he's joking, and I'm absolutely sure it's a front. He's got to be worried out of his mind, but he's putting on a smile and a brave face for Twilight's sake.

After Time and Twilight head to the village, Warriors is stuck with the job of wrangling the other heroes and letting them know what happened. That's got to suck, we can tell by the way he looks SO sad

Very stark contrast to the way he was smiling for Twilight.

He then leads the rest of the heroes, minus Wild (who has his own stuff going on), back to the inn. First thing we see is Wars dropping his entire wallet for the innkeeper to not "worry about it" XD

That's not a small amount of rupees, either, judging by the look on the innkeeper's face. But Wars doesn't even blink, because his mind is too preoccupied on Twilight and keeping the rest of the group in check.

Next, Wind, Legend, and Four are yelling in the lobby. Which, side note, we have confirmation that the whole place could in fact hear them XD

And Wars comes in and puts that situation to a stop. He definitely slips into Captain Mode ™ here

His reaction is very different from Sky's here, too. Sky looks really concerned, but Warriors looks mad. I think that's a good panel showcasing the difference in their personalities and their strengths within the group. Throughout the sunset arc specifically, Sky is the one trying to emotionally hold the group together, and Warriors has stepped up into the leadership position with Time out of commission focusing on Twilight. Warriors has got to be a little tougher, because he needs to physically keep the group together.

I assume this next piece of dialogue comes from Warriors

Here he is physically keeping track of everyone. As long as they're here and together and safe, they can deal with the emotional fallout later.

When the heroes are all gathered around Twilight and Twi implies he's basically giving up, Warriors' expression is starkly different from the others

They're all wide-eyed, surprised, and completely crushed, like they can't fathom the idea of Twilight giving up, or dying at all. But Wars, he doesn't look surprised. He just looks so, so tired.

They've all dealt with loss, but Warriors is the only one who was a soldier. The amount of death Warriors has seen and caused most likely surpasses the others. He's seen his brothers in arms fall countless times. He's not surprised, he's just tired of the loss.

Twilight's decision to fight probably affects Warriors the least. He's seen too many of his fellow soldiers fall, and he has the experience of being overconfident and paying for it, so he knows hopeful spirits can only go so far.

But, just like before, he puts on a smile and tries to make jokes to keep Twilight and the others happy.

This specific quote hurts. Twilight is his brother. Not just his brother-in-arms, but his brother. This quote is peak sibling behavior.

Now, onto the latest update. Warriors is still trying to take care of absolutely everybody.

I love the confirmation that they call each other "Link" when one of them is out of it. That's a headcannon I had already adopted <3.

Here Wars is, trying to make sure Time is okay and is getting any rest at all. Which, of course, he is not. He is most definitely not fine.

But that's more of an emotional issue, a little outside of Warriors' comfort zone. That's more of Sky's territory, or Twilight's really, so Warriors isn't going to push while tensions are so high and there's so much else going on.

So Warriors does what he can, and he makes sure Time doesn't have to worry about anything but Twilight.

Time is so overwhelmed and anguished, watching his descendant slowly dying with nothing he can do about it, so this support means a lot to him.

Once Time tells Wars what he needs, and it's something Wars is confident in doing, he does offer Time some emotional support, too. Warriors specifically turns away before he does so though, because this isn't his strong suit, but he knows Time needs it.

To him, Twilight is the best guy. That's his brother, his fellow soldier and hero, and one of his closest friends. And, according to that first panel, Warriors doesn't have any other living family at all. The chain is all he's got.

Don't forget, Warriors, family is more than blood. This is your family too. Even the innkeeper could see it

I know it's war and they're Generals and all but why did Obi-Wan just tell him that? It doesn't really make sense or is it because Quin's his boyfriend and he never shuts up about him (It makes sense in the context of the scene in the film but there's too much missing here to really have that)

lines being switched between people and shit is such a weird change to me. It changes things a lot and Anakin saying "All of this is unusual, and it's making me feel uneasy." is VERY different than Obi-Wan saying it (like he does in the movie)

Betty is so special and important to me!! She's one of my most favorite characters ever and I love how 13 years after the series finale, she hasn't been forgotten about. 🥺🥹😭🤧💗💓💞

I adore Betty Suarez & Co. I do a series rewatch every year, it’s my favorite comfort show. It was canceled prematurely, and I'm still waiting for my Ugly Betty reunion movie.

I've been a huge fan of America Ferrera since "Real Women Have Curves," but Betty Suarez is my ultimate favorite of her roles. Like you, Betty is just so special to me. I'm always telling people to watch the show (many mutuals on Tumblr will attest to this 😂). I talk about the show so much you'd think it was still airing. I started a new job five months ago, and just last week, I was having lunch with one of my new colleagues, and she saw my Ugly Betty Pop figure on my desk (I commissioned it, and it's one of the best gifts I've ever given myself tbh). When she saw it, we spent half of our lunch discussing our favorite scenes. Ugly Betty is essentially my friendship litmus test lol.

Betty is my favorite fictional character of all time, no contest. But I also want to shout out the ensemble because WOW. The entire cast was incredible and hilarious. The show was a true dramedy; I was often in tears, either from laughter or an emotional storyline. Judith Light AND Vanessa Williams? ICONS. Michael Urie and Becki Newton? What a DYNAMIC DUO. Ana Ortiz and Mark Indelicato? PERFECTION. Eric Mabius? The TALENT. Daniel could have easily been such a vacuous character, but Eric gave him a depth that surprised me. Plus, his chemistry with America?? EPIC. I loved Betty and Daniel so much (shout out to the bridge scene in 1x13!).

I often wonder how unhinged I would have been if Tumblr had existed when the show was airing. My enthusiasm over your ask indicates that I would have been absolutely bonkers and loved every minute of it. 😆

If you're interested, this is my favorite Detty fanvid edit and my favorite Detty article. I loved their friendship through season 3 and didn't ship them romantically until about season 4. While watching the ATX reunion panel in 2016, I realized that Eric was also Team Detty, and I so wish we could have seen what happened next!

Anywho, I've rambled enough lol. Thank you so much for giving me a reason to shout about my all-time favorite character/show!! 😁💜

Do you think Daryl sees the painting and it looks like Beth and it triggers that conversation who he loves and it breaks the internet. Like it's a kind of callback to the earlier seasons when he broke down after Beth's death and Rick said he knew Daryl lost something back there. He knows this man like his brother and he suspects Daryl loved Beth or close to it, but Daryl is so closed off Rick cant be sure. But actions speak louder than words, with Daryl running after the car all night after it took Beth, his despair that drove him to join with the Claimers to the point his judgement was clouded, his grief after Beth's death. Beth wasn't just some farmer's daughter anymore, just a member of the group he took care of automatically like.maybe he did before, like they're not close or anything. Beth meant something to him big time and it's weird for the show to put a lookalike painting in the credits and advertise it. There's tons of paintings they could have used. Why that one? There must be some reference to Beth coming up even if not her return. Maybe we will get some kind of confirmation straight from Daryl's lips that he loves Beth. Carol gave him Beth's knife as well as a memento which is weird because it should have gone to Maggie as her sister. Carol knew Beth was important to Daryl in some away even though she wasn't sure in what kind of way I think as Daryl wasn't very forthcoming

What happened to the knife anyways. Did it get lost or what

Great points, especially about how they could have used any painting and chose one that looked like Beth. I don't know how the conversation will start. I'm assuming he'll be talking to Isabelle or Laurent. But it would be super cool if it was in reference to the painting. You're right that it's odd for them to advertise it the way they have.

You know, I just had a thought. It would be relaly cool if they found this actual painting and a conversation started over it, much like Beth and Edwards' conversation in Slabtown. Would just be a nice parallels.

Like you, I hope the name drop that breaks the internet is Beth. Or some version of her name. Something obvious.

A couple of years ago, at a panel, Norman confirmed that Daryl still has Beth's knife. Even though we don't see it on screen, it's still around somewhere. The last time we saw it was 6x12. So, I have to assume he stashed it at Alexandria somewhere. I doubt he would have kept it while in the ocean.

We don't know the details of where it is beyond that, but if Norman can automatically answer that, yes, he knows Daryl still has Beth's knife, that says to me that they have kept it for some future storyline, and Norman knows enough about it to know that the knife will resurface at some point. That alone should give us hope of Beth's return.

I haven't been praising Sonic characters on my blog lately. Let's change that!

Here's every current main Sonic character IDW or Videogame and my; I've been with sonic the hedgehog since birth, opinion.

Name = just assume I'm talking about both iterations or they only have the one of either.

(mostly jokes under the cut. I'm not taking this seriously)

VSonic: He be going; but the development of character is slow and practically stagnant

CSonic: He be going; but, the character development is actively moving along with him.

Tails: He be following; but, he has grown and I am very proud of my fox baby

CShadow: I would say the same thing as the video game iteration, but at the time I am making this post the Eggperial city arc of IDW comic has ended and Shadow played a big part in it. And he slayed. An absolute KING 👑 I'm just happy we got to see him a little bit fixed from what we got from the previous arcs. So, ultimate.

VRouge: Haven't seen her in a while can only go off based on what we recently got and fine I guess.

CRouge: A BOSS ASS BITCH! QUEEN! I LOVE YOU 💜💖💞💕💓 She one ups everyone with every line of sassy dialogue and I don't ever want it to end.

VE-123 Omega: Haven't seen him a while, can only go off base of what we've gotten so far, and I still miss Gamma. (Jk jk Omega's still cool)

COmega: A little menace of a preteen in a tank like robot body focused on nothing but being petty towards Eggman! Read the IDW Omega and you'll see the angsty preteen I promise! I love this Omega!

VSilver: He's such a punk.... Where's all the smack you were talking and power you were showing in 06 bro, where'd that go!

CSilver: He's such a punk.... But he talks that smack and shows that power he's been given since 06! Love him 🤍, this is why he'll always be number 2

VBlaze: All we got recently was her in that annoying racing game (it's fun cuz it's a little buggy I'm just trash at it) and the April fools game and in those I'm happy to see her having fun. In any cannon game she's ever been in she's got a stick up her butt. I'm happy to see her smiling more.

CBlaze: A breath of fresh air is what she needs and what she deserves and I'm happy that the comic is delivering. It's clear that her breath of fresh air is her going on adventure with sonic and co. So let her go on a little more adventures though, I wouldn't mind seeing her go on another girl focused adventure with Amy, rouge, cream, bell, tangle, whisper, and Lanolin. That sounds really fun! She'd probably have a blast.

VCream: I don't think I'm wrong about this but the last time we saw her was in GENERATIONS! . . . Need I say anything else?

CCream: IDW has made me find a new appreciation for the characters I never thought about as much since Sonic X. Cream being one of those characters. She's so headstrong, and believes in what she does and, is such a purely good force that everyone that has recently crossed paths with her either understands, or knows, that she will be a force to be reckoned with in the future. That girl is going places, and gonna change the world. We may never see it but the facts are there.

Gemerl: A gem. And I'm happy I got my Omega vs Gemerl fight in an annual issue. THAT made me love their character. So serious about everything unless their allowed to chill out which is everyday considering they live with the Rabbit family.

Vanilla: I don't think I can say anything about Vanilla other than that she's just a good mom.

VVector: Since we got him in the April fools game and the racing game he has more coverage to talk about, however he's still just a loud crocodile making the audience laugh

CVector: Yoooo! This guy don't play about his buddies. The metal virus arc... I was ready to cry. I didn't think he would do that let alone be as serious as he was in that arc considering the Chaotix are meant to jokes. Especially Vector with his greed. The comic shows that he's a good leader, and since he's been doing it for years I want to see another mini adventure involving the Chaotix and Knuckles.

VEspio: I don't think we've seen him since Generations either so,.... Still as quiet and ninja like as ever

CEspio: NINJA POWER!! He was, is, and forever will be one of the coolest characters in the sonic franchise to me. As he is; I believe, to be the only one with a definite fighting style and set of skill along with a vibe of mystery that I wish would be uncovered sooooo bad. If you seen that annual where Silver and him had that deep talk, I almost could hold back tears. Again this comic has made me have a serious appreciation for the characters I never thought about so hard since Sonic X. He's perfect, never change Espio.

VCharmy: Again since Generations, all we've seen is a kid.

CCharmy: I have a lot of thoughts on comic Charmy that it's hard for me to put it down. I'm not gonna make the rest of this post a rant/appraisal on this little kid. So this is all I'm leaving you with.

Tanjiro loved you. You were his pride and joy. The reason he looked forward to coming home after each mission. So why did he do it? To be quite honest he doesn’t know the answer himself. If he loved you would he have done what he did? Would he have broken the trust you had given him? It ate away at him day after day. Each smile and kiss just made him feel worse. In his defense, it wasn’t supposed to happen. Kanao had always been a close friend to Tanjiro. Hell, she was the godmother of your two sons. Meaning it was only natural for him to help her in a time of need.

When Tanjiro told you about her being injured, you urged him to visit her on both of your behalfs since you had just received a mission. Packing a bag, Tanjiro and your sons set off to Kanao’s home. He went to help around the house or just doing tasks that she oh so desperately needed his help with. He wonders how it all started. When touches began to linger, eyes wondering, imagination flying. Everything escalated the last night of their stay. The boys were fast asleep leaving Tanjiro and Kanao alone. It might’ve been the alcohol they consumed that night that really set everything off. It was as if time slowed when their lips touched for the first time. The next morning he hurriedly got himself and the boys together before leaving hoping that the events that happened the night prior would just become a distant memory.

If only that were true. Then he wouldn’t have had to see the painful tears that ran down your face when you found out. “We got married. We have two amazing sons and you do this? Did we really mean so little for you to throw it away all in one night?” No, that wasn’t the truth. Far from the truth really but could he really say that? Could he sit there and argue you mean everything to him when he did such a disdaining act? Instead, he stared at the floor, his own tears hitting the ground mumbling apologies.

Three years have passed since then. Tanjiro had respected your wishes and kept his distance no matter how much it hurt. This is why it surprised him when he saw you at a market in a village. You looked absolutely ethereal as ever. The smile he would’ve fought to see graced your lips. At your side were your sons. They had grown so much since the last time he saw them. Tanjiro almost forgot all about the events and was about to head straight toward you but something stopped him. More specifically someone. The water hashira kissed your lips softly before your sons jumped on him. “Dad! We missed you!” That’s right. How could Tanjiro forget why it was like this in the first place?

Feeling someone’s eyes on you, you turned around catching a small glimpse of Tanjiro. The grip on your basket tightened as a sigh asked you. “Is something the matter, love?” Giyuu asked with worry written all over his face. Shaking your head you smiled. “Nope. Just thought I saw someone I recognized.”

The brothers where (they aren't dating yet) but they are at a fair and they win a bear or a prize and mc gives them a kiss kn the cheek for how many they win and mc says if they win 10 or more they will give them a kiss on the lips and spend a whole week with them (maybe show like if some did get the kiss and how they would react?) I thought this was cute lol

Hello 👋🏻 welcome to my Sims 4 side-blog 😄

Mari Aurore is my self insert sim (and OC). She's mostly from FFXIV but I kind of insert her into every universe. She's currently married to my biggest anime crush 🫶🏻 Capt. Hitsu from Bleach ❄️💙

As my favorite Marvel hero puts it (in the movies), "I love you in every universe."

I realize most people dislike seeing OC x Canon pairings, so I'm not expecting much, if anything.

However, I'm enjoying my time in Sims 4 and wanted to create this side-blog to share the craziness that sometimes happens, and maybe some builds that I create in my spare time 😊

More About (Personality & Gameplay)

Mari (INFJ): Very cooking focused; she either already has it or she's gonna get it eventually. That includes all things gardening, seasonings and spices. However if I feel something is detrimental to the overall gameplay, I'll skip over it (for example, I've heard some awful things about the eco lifestyle DLC & outdoor retreat DLC and that's one I wanted for stargazing).

Eventually I'd like to build her, her own restaurant. Not sure what to put on the menu yet though.

My DLCs

The only reason I'm including this list here is for people who are legitimately curious of what I own 🤷🏻‍♀️

I try not to go crazy using DLCs when I make builds because I understand that some people are confined to the DLCs they own. Often I see builds that use 20 DLCs and it's like... you guys know that people don't have that many DLCs, right? Personally there are some I refuse to buy because I know there are mechanics in them that make gameplay awful or don't mesh with how I want to play.

Typically when I forego using a limited amount of DLCs it's because I'm making things for myself and then I decide to share it later. But if I'm originally making a build with the intent to share it- I limit myself.

Draco shut the door to the flat with a decisive click, letting himself sink against the solid wood panel and slide to the ground, wrapping his arms around his legs and burying his head in the open space.

He didn't look up at the sound of footsteps entering the room, stopping with a sigh, and then approaching him. He didn't lift his head until he heard a grunt above him, letting his gaze meet Blaises' deep brown eyes and extended hand.

He didn't move to get up, and Blaise huffed, dropping his hand. "You're getting your outfit dirty, you know."

Draco scowled. "Let it. I'm going to be alone forever. There's no one to see my dirty clothes, anyway."

Blaise's eyebrows rose high on his forehead. "He really did a number on you, huh?"

"It's not his fault," Draco sighed. "I'm the one who told him I needed time."

"It's been a day. Do you still need more time?"

"Of course I do," Draco knit his eyebrows. "I don't know what to do."

To Draco's surprise, Blaise laughed, shaking his head. "That's such bullshite."

"Excuse me? You're not in my head, Blaise, you don't know that!"

"I've known you for your whole life, and you have talked about Harry Potter non-stop since you were eleven years old. Are you honestly telling me that, now that you have the opportunity to be with him, you don't know what the next step is?"

Draco narrowed his eyes. "It's not that simple."

"Yes, it is. If there is one constant in this fucked-up world, it is your feelings for Potter. Don't deny it, Draco. Every time you come back from seeing him you're all doe-eyed and blushing. You listen to love songs for hours afterward. I would know," Blaise smirked. "We share a wall, and your silencing charms are shite."

Draco scowled again. "What's your point, Blaise?"

"You know what you want, Draco. You're afraid to let yourself have it."

"I'll have you know that I am very good at self-indulgence. Just last week I bought myself those cufflinks I've been wanting for weeks."

"Maybe, but buying cufflinks isn't the same as admitting to yourself that you want to let someone else in." Blaise sank down to his knees, squatting in front of Draco. "You're scared," he said, his voice soft. "And that's okay. But don't let that fear get in the way of letting yourself be happy."

Draco looked away. "When did you become a sap?"

Blaise rolled his eyes. "I contain multitudes. Look, I'll leave you to dirtying your suit in misery if you want, but let me just say one more thing."

"What?"

"You've worked your arse off to get where you are. There is quite literally nothing Potter or the press or anyone could do to you that you haven't already faced. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain."

Draco was silent for a moment, and then he nodded. "Thanks."

Blaise nodded as he stood back up again. "You're welcome. And promise me something."

"What?"

"If you ever bring Potter over here, let him cast the silencing charms."

Harry's mouth was agape when he saw Draco standing in the doorway.

"Sorry about my clothes, I know they're dirty," Draco blurted, his cheeks heating.

Harry's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "You look fine, Draco. I just didn't expect to hear from you so soon."

Draco nodded. "Can I come in?"

"Yeah, of course," Harry stepped aside, letting Draco cross the threshold.

Harry's flat was such a stark contrast to the one he shared with Blaise. It was warm, bright, and cluttered in a constant state of organized chaos that was just this side of messy and somehow endearing, much like its owner, who was now standing in front of Draco and clearly trying not to fidget in his nervousness.

"Alright, I suppose I'll just...be out with it," Draco steeled himself, forcing his eyes to meet Harry's. "I want you—this. I-I want this with you. And I like you, a lot. I think I have for a long time."

Harry visibly relaxed, but he nodded frantically. "Okay. Yeah, me too."

"I just...I'm tired of not letting myself be happy. And you'll make me happy, I think."

A small, somewhat shaky smile curved Harry's lips. "Good. I want to try. Because I think you'll make me happy, too. You already do."

Draco cleared his throat against the blush that spread across his cheeks again. "Okay, good. But there's one more thing. And part of me doesn't want to say it because I don't want to scare you. I don't want you to think I have any intention to leave, or that I'm not in it for the long haul, because I am, honestly, I am, but..." he trailed off, forcing down the tears that welled in his eyes.

"Go on, it's alright," Harry said, his voice and expression both gentle.

Draco took a shuddering breath. "I don't want to hurt you," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I'm terrified of waking up one day and just—shutting down. Of not being the person you need, that you deserve, and just leaving because I've convinced myself I'm protecting myself—and you."

Harry's face fell. "Oh, Draco," he said softly, coming over to take Draco's hands in his. "I'm not afraid. I trust you." Harry lifted one of his hands and placed it gently on Draco's chest, over his heart. "And have you ever known me to let something I care about go without a fight? Do you really think I'd let you walk away just because you're scared?" Harry shook his head. "If this ends, it'll be because we can't make it work—not because we're afraid to."

Draco swallowed against the lump in his throat. "How can you be so sure?"

"I just am," Harry said, his eyes shining. "I'm sure about you. And what was that you said about not deserving me? Draco, all you ever have to be is yourself."

Draco lifted a hand to cover Harry's on his own chest. He closed his eyes and breathed, whispering "Thank you," into the space between them. "I just, I want you to know that this," he squeezed Harry's hand where it rested over his heart. "Is yours. I think it always has been."

Harry sucked in a breath and gently placed Draco's hand over his own heart. "Just so you know," he murmured, looking at Draco under his eyelashes, "it's an even trade."
