could u do being kya's daughter hc? from lok
Tumblr media
10/10 the best mom ever no doubt about it
When Kya was traveling the world she came across a pregnant woman in desperate need of a healer
There wasn’t much time and the woman knew she wasn’t going to be able to raise her baby herself, so she asked Kya if she would be able to take you in and treat you as her own
Kya accepted, and by adopting you she became a mother
She’s very nurturing and gentle, making sure to give you all of the love, care, and affection you need. She never wants you to feel neglected or abandoned like her and Bumi had as kids
Not too strict but not too lenient. A good balance
You end up becoming a fire bender opposite of your mother, but she does her best to teach you how to master your ability and even goes out of her way to ask Lord Zuko if he can help instruct you, thus influencing your bending to be a hybrid form of both water and fire techniques
This also may or may not end up introducing you to his grandson Iroh but that’s a story for another day... *
You guys used to go on so many trips together, exploring the world as mother and daughter
When Aang died you joined your mother in her return to the South and lived with Katara
You absolutely love your Gran Gran, by the way. Your bond is very close and sometimes when you can’t sleep she’ll tell you about some of her old adventures
You also love your Uncle Bumi and Uncle Tenzin!!!
When you were a kid Bumi used to give you the best piggyback rides and was always thrilled to join you during your little tea parties and could literally never say no to you. Plus he always has silly stories to tell that make you laugh
Tenzin would take you on Bison rides in the sky and helped you with your studies whenever needed. He also would often console you whenever you were upset or had a disagreement with your mother/partner/friend/etc.
You’re the older cousin for his kids and they absolutely love you, especially Ikki
Does Bum-Ju also count as one of your cousins?
Anyway you’re a very powerful bender and fighter but also a very sweet and compassionate woman just like your mother and often help in aiding the Avatar and her friends
*if you’re like your mother and are attracted to women she ofc is going to be one hundred percent supportive. She made it very clear from a young age that she’d always love and support you no matter what and made sure you’d always feel safe enough to come talk to her about anything. She never wants you to feel alone or afraid, and your family will be so so supportive if you do decide to come out to them
Overall you feel so lucky to be a part of such a wonderful family and to have such an amazing mother

Just Us With Some Hugging -Part One
Prompt: Prompt #1- Fake dating with Prince Zuko!
@darthsokaaa thank you for your request! I hope I did it justice! Who doesn’t love some Prince Zuko;) Masterlist
Just Us With Some Hugging- Part 1
You and Zuko had been close since birth. Your mothers had been best friends and the closest of confidantes, and because of this you had spent nearly every moment of your life with Zuko. As you grew up, Zuko became a trained fire bender and you became a trained warrior. Even during his exile, you were checking up on him through letters.
It had been nothing to pick his side over Ozai’s, and easier still to join forces with him against Azula to place the rightful Fire Lord on the throne. As soon as Zuko was crowned, he named you a member of his personal council. For three years, everything had remained somewhat peaceful, and Zuko and you had fallen right back into your friendship as if you’d never spent any time apart.
That’s why when Zuko had all but manhandled you into this conference room, you didn’t expect anything unusual. Maybe an important meeting, or just some time to catch up and talk. Never in your wildest dreams could you have predicted that he would ask you to pretend to be his girlfriend.
“What?” You say, blinking in shock.
“Y/N, it would just be for the duration of the Peace Celebration. Just a short little weekend, nothing much.” His face is a little flushed, his cheeks a light pink. Zuko has always struggled to ask for help, particularly anything dealing with emotions. Anxiously, he starts rubbing the back of his neck.
“I know it’s a lot, but think about it! We’d get to have a fun trip to Ba Sing Se. And it’ll be a fun party! We’ll get to see everyone again, they’re all coming this time.” He gestures with his hands. It’s almost endearing.
You’d be lying if you said the idea didn’t have any appeal. It’s been a long time since you’ve seen any of the Gaang. After the war, everyone had spread out and getting together had been nearly impossible. This would be the first Peace Celebration that everyone would be able to come to.
If you were extra honest with yourself, the idea was appealing for another reason entirely. Somewhere along the endless years of friendship, you had fallen in love with Zuko. Maybe it was seeing his growth as a person, or maybe it was his devotion to Fire Nation and righting Ozai’s mistakes. Maybe it was just that he was the single most attractive man you’d ever seen.
Regardless, you were in deep. And that was really the reason that you couldn’t say yes, as much as you might want to. You knew if you let yourself get that close to Zuko, it might ruin everything. Your friendship with Zuko was one of the most important aspects of your life, and you would never forgive yourself if you let your own feelings ruin what you all had.
“Zuko, I really don’t think...”
“You know, I’m kind of the Fire Lord, I could command you.” He says quietly. His voice is huskier than normal, and heat instantly floods your face.
Why was he doing this to you? It wasn’t fair that he was able to do...well to do that! He had no idea how much power he held over you, how you would do anything for him. And now that he had asked like that, there was no way you could say no.
Something in your expression must have given away your broken resolve, because Zuko’s face breaks into a huge grin.
“Thank you!” He exclaims, jumping up and happily running around the table to throw his arms around you. He’s warm, like all fire benders are, and hesitantly you hug him back and tuck your head under his chin. You’ve never been particularly affectionate friends, but the embrace doesn’t feel as unnatural as it probably should.
“I haven’t even said yes yet.” You grouch. You can feel the reverberations of Zuko’s low laugh in his chest. It’s too much, being in his arms like this.
“I know you.” Is all he says in reply. His words send warm tingles down your spine. With a final sigh, you pull away from Zuko, breaking the hug.
“Why do you need me to do this again?” You ask. Your eyes trace over his face, memorizing the contours and lingering on his scar. He used to act so ashamed of it, the scar he never asked for. Now he wears it like a badge of honor. You knew his troubles stemmed from his perceived lack of honor, but you can’t help but feel he was wearing his honor the entire time, right here on his face.
“I told you. Uncle drives me crazy with his matchmaking. He keeps telling me that ‘A single tea leaf makes the worst tea.’ Or something like that. I don’t even know what he means!” Zuko throws his hands up in defeat, breaking your trance. You snort, but don’t comment. Frustrated as he may be, Zuko loves Iroh.
Zuko had briefly mentioned the matchmaking to you before, but he had always played it off as a joke. You had no idea that Iroh was being so serious about it, or that it bothered Zuko so much.
“Why don’t you just tell him that you’re too young to settle down? You have a Nation to run, after all.” You interject.
Zuko looks at you and rolls his eyes.
“You know Uncle. He never listens when it comes to this stuff. I told you about the girl in Ba Sing Se he made me date!”
You force down the irrational swell of anger that builds in your chest. Zuko had mentioned the date in one of his letters, and it had bothered you for reasons you never wanted to think about.
“We need to talk logistics here.” You recross your arms. “What’s our story? How are we going to pull this off in front of our friends and your uncle?”
Zuko begins rubbing the back of his neck. The sleeves of his red robe fall down a few inches, and you quickly avert your eyes before you’re caught staring.
“I don’t think it will be too hard.” Zuko says. He’s too nonchalant about it all, which is mildly infuriating. He sees the irritated look on your face and hurries to explain. “I mean, we’ve been friends forever and we’re always around each other. It was bound to happen right?”
Your heart stutters and nearly stops. Did you hear him right?
Zuko clears his throat.
“I mean for story purposes that is.”
“Right.” You say. There’s a long awkward pause. You’ve never been comfortable with silence, so you hurry to break it.
“So one day we just decided ‘This is it.’ And I jumped your bones?”
The sarcasm lightens the mood, and Zuko laughs. His amber eyes twinkle in the light, like they’re shining.
“How come you jumped my bones?” He teases.
“We both know I’d have to make the first move, you’d never do it.” You challenge him.
A weird static energy settles in the room, reminding you of Azula’s lightning. Zuko has never looked at you so intensely. You swear the air is crackling.
“Right.” He says, and is it your imagination or are his eyes flickering to your lips?
The spell is broken by one of Zuko’s men opening the door.
“My Lord, I’m sorry to interrupt...” He trails off, looking between the two of you.
You and Zuko both notice the lack of space between you, and jump apart.
“Right, no it’s fine.” Zuko says, clearing his throat and gesturing for the man to come in.
You take the opportunity to leave while you still have some dignity left.
“Oh, and y/n?” Zuko says before you’re out the door.
“Yes, Zuko?” You ask. You hope the blush isn’t too noticeable on your face.
“I’m glad you said yes, because I already told Uncle last week.” His face splits into a cocky grin, and his scar crinkles.
Your infuriated scream echoes through the whole palace, mingling with his delighted laugh.
_____________________________
You’re already reconsidering this arrangement by the time you reach Ba Sing Se. Zuko looks astoundingly good when he’s more relaxed, and there’s no way you’ll be able to control yourself like this. Today he wears the clothing of a fire nation commoner. The deep red is striking against his skin and dark hair. It also highlights his scar and the amber of his eyes.
Ba Sing Se is gloriously overdecorated. There are flowers and banners covering every visible inch of the city, and they blend together in a colorful blur as the train moves through the city. Zuko smiles, face turned toward the glass, eyes taking in all the festivities. It’s been too long since you’ve seen him look so peaceful.
He turns from the window and catches your expression.
“What?” He asks, self-consciously.
Your voice is too soft when you answer him.
“Nothing. Ba Sing Se looks good on you.”
You have no idea where your boldness comes from, as Zuko shifts uncomfortably under the complement. Before you can tease him about it, he switches topics.
“Ok, so we’re really going to have to sell this thing, aren’t we?” He starts, making you roll your eyes.
It’s a typical Zuko move to save the panicking until right before. You had already done your fair share of freaking out, and had already done your meditation. You were a lot calmer about it all than you expected to be.
Of course, you knew that would probably change the moment you had to start pretending, but for now you were ok.
“Meditate Zuko. Deep breaths.” You tell him, giving him a gentle kick to the shin. He rolls his eyes, but takes the advice anyways.
“It’s going to be okay.” You tell him. “We just have to be us with some hugging. Or handholding. They know us and they know how we behave normally. We just have to act natural.”
Zuko nods, and a strand of black hair falls in front of his eyes. He flicks it away, and then settles deeper into his seat.
“Just us.” He says.
“With some hugging.” You amend.
He cracks an amber eye open and you shrug at his expression.
“It’ll be weird if we don’t touch each other at all.” You say.
“I didn’t know you had such a deep desire to touch me.” He says, with extra emphasis on the word “touch.”
Your body begins to tingle again. This has been happening more and more frequently with Zuko, where one of you says something with a double meaning. The electricity settles in again, but is broken by the abrupt stop of the train.
An enthusiastic stewardess comes to escort the two of you off the train. She’s pretty and she notices Zuko immediately.
“Welcome to Ba Sing Se!” She chirps happily, more at Zuko than you. You can’t help your irrantional flare of jealousy.
Zuko, noticing your aggravation, slings an arm over your shoulders and smirks.
“Yes, sweetheart. Welcome to Ba Sing Se.”
You give him a hard elbow to the ribs, and laugh at his grunt of pain.
Iroh is waiting with open arms when you get off of the train. He immediately takes Zuko off of your hands, and tries to smoosh Zuko as close to his body as he can. Zuko does a very un-Zuko thing and hugs back with as just as much force. It warms your heart to see them interact. Iroh breaks the embrace and hugs you next.
“It’s so good to see you both again!” He says. “And with such happy news.” Iroh wiggles his eyebrows and winks at the two of you.
“Uncle!” Zuko groans, throwing his hands up exasperatedly.
“Sorry, Sorry. Couldn’t help myself, y/n.” Iroh chuckles.
“It’s ok!” You try to say brightly, but it comes out breathy. If you don’t get it together, you’ll expose your own lie before anyone else can.
Zuko takes your hand in his, and shoulders both of your bags on his other arm. You do everything you can not to think about the fact that Zuko’s incredibly warm hand is wrapped around yours. You definitely don’t think about what this hand has done before, or what it could do if it wanted.
“Uncle, where are we staying?” Zuko asks.
For once you’re grateful to the heat of Ba Sing Se, for it camouflages the fact that you’ve started to sweat.
“We’ve set up a lovely house for you two and all of your friends! You’ll all be together.” Iroh says, bouncing around.
“Is anyone here yet?” You ask him. You can fight the excitement bubbling up inside you. You hadn’t seen your friends in a long time, and soon they’d all be here!
“Everyone but Aang and Miss Katara.” Iroh says. “They’ll be here later.”
You have an extra pep to your step as you wind through the streets of Ba Sing Se. Zuko laughs at your enthusiasm, and squeezes your hand. Iroh notices and practically starts glowing. A stab of something goes through you as you think about the lie you’re telling, but it all fades away as you let yourself enjoy the moment and the warmth of Zuko’s hand.
_________________________________________
In an effort to keep peace and spread good will, Ba Sing Se had been selected to host the annual Peace Celebration- a celebration honoring the peace ushered in by the Avatar, the end of the war, and the continuing efforts to preserve it. Ba Sing Se had been the natural choice to host the whole affair. Not only was it the biggest city, but it was the most neutral. And Ba Sing Se certainly knew how to throw a party.
You and the group were currently sandwiched tightly around a table. The whole Gaang was here. When you had arrived at the house, it had been a nonstop hug fest. Everyone had been so glad to see each other. Toph had taken you to your room across from hers, while Sokka had taken Zuko to his. You had fully expected the shakedown from Toph about your relationship, but she had said nothing. That scared you more than anything, because it could only mean she was waiting for the right time.
Zuko had told you about Toph’s ability to sense lies, and you had been privileged enough to see it first hand. If anyone was going to figure out your secret it was Toph.
You had wanted to get Zuko alone and tell him about your fears, but there hadn’t been time. Aang and Katara had arrived and then everyone had to get ready for the party. Now you were all here, and it was basically life as usual. Except for the fact that you were anxiously waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Katara and Aang were making eyes at each other, Sokka and Toph were competing to see who could hold their liquor better (Toph of course was winning), Zuko and Iroh were engaged in a discussion of the rebuilding of Ba Sing Se, and that left you and Suki to make awkward conversation.
You admired Suki a lot, but you hadn’t really gotten to know her well. Both of you had been sitting in silence. Suki takes a slow sip of her drink, and twirls the edges of her short brown hair.
“So you and Zuko?” She asks, nodding her head at the arm Zuko had wrapped around your shoulders.
You take a long sip of your drink, and then nod.
“Yeah.” You say quietly.
You had been waiting on pins and needles all night for this. Toph had yet to spring her trap, and Suki’s question seemed to catch the attention of the entire table.
“Yeah! Tell us how that happened!” Sokka says, half of his drink spilling over the rim of his mug. Like Zuko, Sokka has grown into a man since the war, well a childish man but a man none the less.
“Well...” You start.
“It just happened.” Zuko interjects, saving you. You start to take another sip to finish your drink. “And then y/n jumped my bones.” He laughs.
The surprise of his statement chokes you, and you start coughing. Zuko breaks into carefree laughter, and starts patting your back. The Gaang quickly joins in laughing, except for Toph, who cocks her head and stares with unseeing eyes at Zuko.
“I’m...going...to....murder....you.” You tell him, as you try to catch your breath. Zuko smiles warmly at you, and reaches up to smooth a piece of hair behind your ear. Your heart skips a beat, as he catches your eyes with his.
Toph and Sokka resume their contest, and you sigh with relief. Maybe she’ll be too drunk to tell or care if you’re lying. Zuko catches your eyes again, and it’s all you need to know that you guys are on the same page. Crisis momentarily averted.
“Come on, let’s dance.” Zuko says, pulling you away from the table.
“Zuko? Dance?” You hear someone mutter behind you.
“Zuko, if we act too different they’ll find out!” You hiss at him when you’re a distance away from the table. You try desperately to wiggle out of his grip.
He ignores you, and seamlessly incorporates you with the other dancers.
“I just want to dance with my girlfriend.” He bends his head down, whispering in your ear. “Is that too much to ask?”
He has a wicked grin on his face when he pulls away, and you would give anything to be able to bend him across the room.
“It is when you never do that! You never danced with Mai.” You point out, and then instantly regret it. Mai was a sore spot with Zuko. You watch as Zuko freezes, losing his buoyancy from earlier.
“I would’ve. She always said no.”
You shuffle closer in your embrace trying to offer him some comfort. You always put your foot in your mouth.
Zuko and Mai’s breakup had been awful. The relationship had been bad for a year, but when it finally came to a head, it had been explosive. Zuko had been positively horrid to deal with for weeks.
“Oh.” You say like a genius, but it isn’t really your fault that you can’t speak in coherent sentences with him holding you like this.
“Yeah.” Zuko says, and you know that if you don’t act now he’ll brood for the rest of the night.
“Well I’m a hell of a better dancer than Mai, so you’ve definitely upgraded.” You say flippantly.
Zuko smiles at you and pulls you closer.
“I certainly did.” He says.
Maybe it’s the alcohol, your close proximity, or the fact that Zuko has just told you that you are an upgrade from your biggest rival, but something in you snaps. Without warning, you find yourself leaning up and pressing a kiss to Zuko’s lips.

Best Friends
Zuko x fem!reader
Summary: You stayed with Zuko in the Fire Nation and when he gets a little jealous he realizes he likes you, his best friend.
Requested?: Yes! This was inspired by a wonderful anon's request:
Love that you are taking requests, I’m so excited! Could you possibly write a jealous Zuko of Y/N, potentially best friends to lovers kind of thing, maybe when he is fire lord? Would love to see what you would do with something like that 😁
I hope you like it!
Fandom: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Requests are open!!
A/n: If y’all couldn’t tell by now, I suck at thinking up titles.
  “What are you gonna do now, Y/n?” Aang asked as you looked out over the party with the rest of the group. You were the only one who was undecided about their plans after the war, but now that you'd had some time to think, you knew.
  “I’m staying here,” you announced, smiling at Zuko. He gave a small smile back as you continued, “There isn’t anything left for me back home since somebody *cough* Zuko *cough* burned it down.”
  He frowned at you. “How many times do I have to apologize for that?”
  You considered the question. “Oh, I don’t know, forever?” You chuckled. “I don’t mind though, it led to me meeting my best friend.”
  Zuko smiled again as you gave him a quick hug. “I need a new advisor if you're up for it.”
  “Challenge accepted.”
  For a while you all talked, finally enjoying yourselves. It was really nice, but eventually you were all pulled away to go and join the party. Duty called.
   As you made your way from person to person, they each congratulated you on your appointment as Zuko’s advisor. Some were less genuine than others, obviously upset that they hadn’t gotten the position.
  All of it made you a little nervous and when you finally pulled away from a not so genuine couple, you made your way to Zuko. You wanted to dance and why do it with a stranger when you could do it with your best friend?
  You were a third of the way to Zuko when you felt a tap on your shoulder. You snapped around, months of traveling with the gaang made you expect a fight, but instead you found a man a little older than you standing there.
  “You’re Y/n, right? Zuko’s advisor?” He asked.
  You nodded, giving him your default charming smile. “I am.”
  “Nice to meet you, I’m Lee.” He bowed and you quickly mimicked him. “I’m hoping to be on the council.”
  “Oh? Where are you from?” You asked, trying to make conversation as you looked for Zuko again. He had moved in the brief time you had spoken to Lee.
  “A small village that you’ve probably never heard of near another small that you’ve probably never heard of. All of the town leaders elected me to come here.”
  You nodded, finally spotting Zuko. “Maybe I’ll put in a good word for you, but for now, it was nice meeting you.”
  “Nice meeting you too, Y/n,” he said and you let out a sigh of relief as you left. It was so stressful just to talk to people now. They always wanted something and while Lee seemed kind it was hard to be sure.
  You pushed your anxieties away though as you finally found Zuko.
  “Enjoying the party?” You asked after he’d finished talking to a couple.
  “If you can call it that.”
  “Well, let’s remedy that. Come dance, it’ll be fun.”
  Zuko nodded, offering an arm to lead you out to the dance floor.
  ~~~~
  “Iroh!” You greeted the old man with a bright smile and a hug. It had been a few months since you’d last seen him and you missed him and his cheerful energy. And not only that, having him around always made Zuko happier.
  “Y/n, it’s good to see you again. I hope you’ve been well?”
  “Of course, I love the Fire Nation, especially with what we’ve done with it. Zuko’s been great!”
  “Speaking of him, where is my nephew?”
  “I’m here, Uncle!” Zuko called, speeding down the steps and immediately hugging Iroh. “How have you been?”
  “Wonderful! The tea shop is as busy as ever.” He smiled. “How are you? I hear you’re pretty busy too.”
  “Incredibly,” you agreed with a tired smile.
  Iroh nodded understandingly. “Well, now that I’m here it’s time for some fun!”
  The three of you turned to walk back into the palace, but a servant came rushing down the steps. “Your Majesty! Lady Y/n!”
  “Yes?” Zuko asked after they had bowed.
  “There’s a problem, an emergency meeting had to be scheduled.”
  You sighed, but Iroh just chuckled. “Work never really takes a break.”
  “Would you like to join us?” You asked.
  “Will there be tea?” Iroh asked, earning a laugh from you.
  “Whatever you’d like,” Zuko confirmed as you made your way to the meeting room.
You walked inside and took your seat next to Zuko, waving at those who had already arrived. Lee, who had been appointed to the council, waved back and moved to take a seat next to you as Iroh took the seat across from you.
You leaned over to Zuko. “Do you have any clue what this is about?”
“No,” he whispered back.
You sighed. “It’s probably something bad.”
Zuko was cut off from answering as a younger general, Xu, stood to address the room. He began to speak and you listened intently as he discussed a problem with the colonies: some people didn’t want to acknowledge that Zuko was the Firelord, instead they were choosing to follow ‘Firelord Azula’.
It was a problem you’d heard of before and you wondered why Xu was bringing it up now, in an emergency meeting, on your day off.
Just as you were about to voice your question Xu answered it. “Some of the leaders of the colonies have come here and we are worried that they might try something...drastic,” Xu stated.
Zuko nodded thoughtfully and you spoke up. “What do you think about giving them a tour of all the good things that Firelord Zuko has done? Maybe then they will see that he isn’t all bad?”
“Sounds like a great idea!” Lee exclaimed from your right and Zuko nodded in agreement, though there was a frown on his face. You gave him a reassuring smile and he gave a small one back.
“And you should add some more guards to Azula’s cell,” Iroh added. “But don’t let her know about this. I know that my niece is crafty, if she has hope she will act on it.”
With those decisions made, the meeting went on smoothly and you were able to get out of it relatively fast.
As people filed out of the room you turned to Zuko and Iroh. “I’m going to run up to my office real quick. I want to send a hawk to everyone about this.”
Zuko nodded. “Meet us by the turtle duck pond?”
“Yep,” you moved to leave the room, but Lee grabbed your attention.
“You know you have such amazing ideas, why do you always look to Zuko to make sure he approves?” He asked, putting his hands on your shoulders.
You gave him an incredulous look as you gently moved away. “He’s the Firelord, he has the final say on bigger matters and I’d prefer us to be on the same page.”
“His uncle didn’t ask for approval to move guards to Azula’s cell.”
“We would have moved guards to Azula’s cell no matter what, Iroh just so happened to be the one to say it.” Lee opened his mouth to argue more, but you continued, “Maybe we can talk about this another time,” you suggested, backing away. Though, by ‘another time’ you meant never.
Lee nodded. “How about at dinner tonight?”
You shook your head and gave him a fake smile. “I have plans.” With that final statement you turned around and quickly left the room. While Lee typically made you feel more comfortable in meetings, this time he was doing anything but.
You were halfway down the long hallway when you realized that you had forgotten your notes. You sighed turning around, you’d need them to write a letter to your friends. You wanted to give them as many facts as possible so they could decide what to do.
Your footsteps echoed ominously in the hall and you realized how uninviting and creepy they seemed. It was another thing you’d have to talk to Zuko about.
  You pushed aside your thoughts and slowed down as you heard slightly raised voices in the meeting room. Two you immediately recognized as Zuko’s and Iroh’s, but third, Lee’s, took you a little longer.
  “You were clearly making her uncomfortable,” Zuko stated and you could tell that he was irritated.
  “Maybe you were just uncomfortable thinking about Y/n and I dating?” Lee asked.
  “You don’t care about her, you just want power,” Zuko argued.
  You heard Lee scoff. “Maybe I do. I would be a better Firelord than you. I’m beginning to think it’s your family that’s the problem, you’ll just lead this country to ruin.”
  You let out a quiet huff of annoyance. The result of many late night chats with Zuko had led you to know one of his greatest fears: failing. You scowled though no one could see you. How dare Lee say that? You had half a mind to challenge him to an Agni Kai right here and now.
A few calming breaths later led you to remember that you weren’t a fire bender and neither was Lee. However, you still weren’t above fighting him after what he had just said to your best friend. You did not appreciate Lee speaking to him like that.
  Zuko was handling it though. “Leave,” he ordered and you could hear the glare in his voice.
  “W-What?” Lee asked, all of his fight gone.
  “I said, leave. If you are going to disrespect Y/n and I then you don’t have a place in this meeting room or in this palace.”
  You didn’t hear anything else as you hid in an alcove by the door. Lee walked out of the room and you could see he was seething, you’d never seen him that angry and you were glad he couldn’t see you. You did not want to talk to him.
  You moved back to the door to head inside, but Iroh spoke, “I’ll have some guards escort him out.”
“Thank you.” Zuko’s voice moved away from the door. “Do you think I was overreacting?”
“No,” Iroh stated. “You were concerned for Y/n, I can see how much you like her.”
  “What? No!” Zuko protested. “She’s my best friend.”
  “She’s not more than a friend?” Iroh asked teasingly.
  “I-I don’t know,” Zuko admitted much to your surprise.
  You couldn’t imagine Zuko liking you, it was a miracle you were friends after the way you had met. Could you even be more than friends? If you really thought about it you weren’t opposed to the idea.
  A chair creaked. “I’ll leave you to think about it,” Iroh said.
  “I’ll meet you at the turtle duck pond,” Zuko responded, his voice distant, as the door opened.
  “Hi,” You said, slightly embarrassed that you had been found listening.
  “You should talk to him,” Iroh advised, a kind smile on his face.
  You nodded, pushing open the door. “Hey Zuko.”
  “Y/n? H-how much did you hear?”
  “All of it,” you admitted feeling your face heat up.
  “Oh, um-“
  You cut him off. “Thank you for defending me.”
  “Of course.”
  You smiled at him. “About what I heard after that...”
  “Oh, that,” He repeated, flustered.
  “Mhmm,” you proded.
  “Well, I-I guess I like you then.”
  You chuckled at how spontaneous this situation was, but quickly realized it wasn’t a good idea. You moved over and sat in the chair next to Zuko. Taking his hands you beamed at him. “I like you too...even if you burned down my village.”
  He groaned. “I’d like you a lot more if you’d stop binging that up.”
  “It’s all a part of our story, the good and the bad.”
Want to be tagged when I post a fanfic?
Introduction:
This is a one shot of The Keeper of the Diamond series. It’s a crossover between Harry Potter and Avatar: The Last Airbender. It contains Severus Snape x reader, Lucius Malfoy x reader and Zuko x reader. I only own Y/N, Laura, Vera and Lopsy the House Elf. The three girls are 19 years old.
The Malfoys are having a tea party where they have invited Y/N, Laura, Vera, Snape, the Trio and the people from the Avatar: The Last Airbender dimension. However, during the party, Lucius and Snape get jealous when Y/N and Zuko talk.
I hope you enjoy!
TW: Jealousy
At Malfoy Manor, Lucius sighs in irritation. They have said yes to have a tea party at the Manor for the characters from the Avatar: The Last Airbender dimension. They are all coming - Avatar Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Iroh…
And the Fire Prince, Zuko.
Lucius grits his teeth at the thought. He still can’t believe that they invited him as well!
Not that he had much control over it, it would be weird if they invited everybody except for one person… But still!
At least Y/N and the others will be there, too.
The house elves are currently setting the table and cleaning up in all the rooms of the Manor. Draco and Narcissa are both in the living room.
Narcissa is making sure the house elves are setting the table up to her standards.
As for Draco, he’s just sitting on one of the couches, looking bored.
“When is everyone going to show up?” the boy asks his mother.
Narcissa looks a bit annoyed. “Soon, Draco. For the tenth time” she states.
The boy has asked her MANY times when the others would show up.
Draco huffs. “Well, “soon” is taking too long” he complains.
As Narcissa is about to scold him, a house elf appears.
“Ms. Y/L/N and friends have arrived. So have Mr. Snape, Mr. Potter, Ms. Granger and Mr. Weasley” Lopsy the House Elf states.
“Very well. You may bring them inside, Lopsy” Narcissa tells the house elf.
Lopsy bows as she disapparates. A few seconds later, the first wave of guests arrive.
“Hi, Narcissa and Draco! It’s so good to see you two. Where is Lucius?” Y/N asks as she greets the mother and son.
Narcissa smiles. “He’s in the library. You can go there if you like, I trust you remember the way?” she questions. Y/N nods at that.
Laura, Vera and the Trio join Draco on the couch.
Meanwhile, Snape decides to follow Y/N.
“I hope you don’t mind I go with you, Y/N. I do not wish to stay with the others without you” he states.
He truly doesn’t want to, he knows for sure that Laura will bother him…
Y/N smiles. “Of course I don’t mind, Severus. I always enjoy your company” she says, grabbing his hand.
He smirks at that as they keep walking towards the library.
As they enter, they spot Lucius looking grumpy.
“Um… Are you okay, Lucius?” Y/N questions, looking confused.
Snape has an idea what’s up with his friend. He isn’t looking forward to the Fire Prince showing up. Snape feels the same way.
Lucius’ expression immediately changes from grumpy to happy when he notices them.
“Ah, Y/N, Severus. I’m glad to see you two. And I’m fine, Y/N. I just had a bad morning, that’s all” he says as he chuckles before approaching them.
He then hugs Y/N, kissing her cheek. She blushes, but hugs back immediately.
“Well, that’s good. We can’t have you in a bad mood now that there’s a tea party” she says, giggling a bit.
Snape then sighs. “I’m sure they are expecting us” he says.
He wishes they could just stay in the library all day, but alas, that isn’t a possibility as the others would just be looking for them.
Lucius sighs as well. Great.
“Well, why don’t we join them now?” Y/N suggests.
Nodding, they leave the library and head towards the living room. Lucius has a hand on her shoulder while Snape is holding her hand.
Once they enter, they immediately spot the other guests who have arrived.
“Hey, Y/N! Good to see you!” Aang says as he waves.
Y/N waves back. “Hi, guys! It’s good to see you all” she says as she smiles.
On the tables by the couches are nineteen cups of tea, nineteen small plates and different kinds of cookies and cakes. It looks delicious.
Ron and Sokka already have their plates full, of course.
The three newcomers then join the others on the couches. Y/N is sitting between Lucius and Snape.
Much to the two men’s dismay, Zuko is sitting right in front of them.
He smiles at Y/N. “Hello, Y/N. How have you been?” he asks.
Y/N smiles back. “I have been fine, thank you! Though a bit busy with school lately. How about yourself?” she questions.
“I have been okay, we are really busy with Uncle’s tea shop. We get lots of customers daily” he says.
He notices that the two wizards beside her are glaring at him. He just smirks. They are clearly jealous. This is going to be fun.
Everybody starts sipping on their tea.
“This tea is excellent, Mrs. Malfoy. Absolutely delicious” Iroh states in a happy tone.
Narcissa smiles. “Thank you, Iroh. And you may just call me Narcissa” she tells the elder man.
As the two of them discuss tea, Sokka and Ron are munching on their cakes instead of drinking their tea. Hermione rolls her eyes at them, so does Katara.
Aang, Toph, Draco, Harry, Laura and Vera catch up with each other while enjoying their tea.
Meanwhile, Y/N and Zuko continue talking while Snape and Lucius glare at the Fire Prince. That only amuses Zuko. He then gets an idea.
“Hey, Y/N, you need to try the carrot cake. It’s my favourite so far” he says as he brings a fork full of cake towards her mouth.
Nodding, she takes a bite of the cake from his offered fork. She sighs in pleasure.
“You are right, Zuko. The carrot cake is really delicious!” she says just as she takes a piece onto her own plate.
Zuko smiles proudly while the two Slytherin men growl.
“You are welcome, pretty” he says, smirking a bit. Y/N blushes after hearing the nickname.
Lucius grits his teeth while tightening his hold on his cane. He’s very close to hexing the Fire Prince…
As a bit of the cake is on Y/N’s lips, he grabs a handkerchief.
“You have something there, darling” he says before gently wiping it off her mouth with his handkerchief. Y/N’s cheeks turn redder at that.
“T-thank you, Lucius” she shyly says. Now Lucius is smirking.
As Y/N and Zuko talk once more, the two wizards notice Zuko’s hand getting a bit too close to Y/N’s.
Scowling, Snape decides to stop it by grabbing Y/N and pulling her onto his lap.
“S-Sev!” she squeals, her cheeks getting redder and redder.
He smirks. “Sorry about that, princess. I just thought you would look more comfortable on my lap” he smugly says.
She gives an extremely shy smile. “Well, I do like that…” she shyly mutters.
Lucius and Snape give a smug smile while Zuko merely shakes his head. Can they get any more jealous?
Once the tea party comes to an end, they say goodbye to the people from Avatar: The Last Airbender dimension.
“Thank you for coming! I hope you all had a great time” Narcissa says, smiling at them.
They all nod. “Yeah, it was really fun!” Toph states.
Zuko then approaches Y/N. “Well, it was nice seeing you again, Y/N” he says, smiling.
She smiles as well. “It was nice seeing you as well! Maybe next time we will meet you guys at the tea shop” she suggests.
“That would be fun” he says, agreeing.
Unbeknownst to them, two wizards are watching them closely.
The six people then wave before returning to Ba Sing Se. Noticing their expressions, Y/N approaches Lucius and Snape.
“You two don’t have to be jealous. You know that, right?” she says, chuckling a bit.
As they both look rather grumpy, she decides to cheer them up by kissing their cheeks.
Smirking, they kiss her cheeks as well. She blushes at that.
The Trio and Draco then bid them goodbye and return to Hogwarts. Laura, Vera, Y/N and Snape stay at the Manor for a few days.
They didn’t eat that much for dinner as they all had eaten quite a lot of delicious cake. They might have a tea party again someday.
beach party | zuko
study group: a social media au where you work at iroh’s boba tea shop with zuko, try to keep up with your college courses, and stir up an irresponsible amount of chaos with the gaang
prev. / part six / next
((author’s note: okay, so! this update wound up being over 3k words, oops! also, this one is just the written out scene, since none of this takes place over social media/text, and can be read as a solo piece if you aren’t caught up with the rest of the story! enjoy!!))
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You stare at yourself in Katara’s mirror, still second-guessing the cut of your swimsuit.
“Hey, you look great,” she assures you from across the room. “Besides, just think about all the fun you’ll have getting to swim again!”
“Yeah, you’re right,” you smile at the thought, giving yourself one more once-over before turning away from your reflection. “How do you always know what to say?”
“It’s a secret,” she presses a finger to her lips before laughing. “Now, come on, get dressed!”
You glance at the clock and your eyes go wide. “Shit, why didn’t you tell me it was getting so late?” you ask, moving across the room to pull on a hawaiian shirt and a pair of shorts over your swimsuit.
“You were kind of distracted by the mirror,” she laughs again. “Don’t worry, you still have time!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The drive to the beach is quiet, but not uncomfortably so, a local rock station filling the silence. You’re not sure what kind of music you’d expected to hear, but it seems… fitting, especially with the way Zuko drums his fingers along the steering wheel in time.
You realize as the buildings go by that you haven’t travelled to this side of the city in ages, and a somewhat childlike excitement builds within you when you see the shoreline come into view. The ocean.
“How long has it been?” Zuko’s voice pulls you out of your reverie.
“Hm?”
“Since you’ve seen the ocean?” he explains. “You’re acting like you’ve never seen it before.”
“Oh, well, uh, I guess it’s been awhile?” You try to think back far enough. “It was before I graduated high school; what about you?”
He seems caught off guard for a moment, hesitant as he says, “I… haven’t been since my last family trip; so, yeah, awhile.”
Of course, you notice the edge in Zuko’s tone when he says family. Outside of Iroh, you know next to nothing about Zuko’s family. You’ve heard the name Azula thrown around a few times, usually in distaste or regret, but other than that… Zuko doesn’t talk about them, and you’re not going to pry.
“Do you think it’d be lame for me to pick seashells at a party?” you ask, only partly serious as you try to change the subject.
When you see the small upturn of his lips, you smile, even as he adds, “Yeah, I do.”
“Well, now I have to.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Oh my god! Zuko! Y/n!” you hear Ty Lee’s voice the second you step onto the sand, your bag and towel still in hand as she runs over to greet you. “It’s been so LONG, how have you been?? I’m so glad you could make it!!!”
Her smile is infectious, and you can’t help but grin as you reply, “Things are good! It’s so nice to see you again!”
“Why don’t you two find someplace to set up and then come join Mai and I for some volleyball! We’ve been trying to get a good game going, but no one can handle Mai’s serves,” she laughs, looking back toward her girlfriend affectionately before returning her attention to you. “What do you say?”
“That sounds like fun! What do you think?” you glance over to Zuko, whose expression is incredibly passive.
“Yeah… sounds fun.”
“Yay!!! I’ll go tell Mai!”
Ty Lee runs off toward the volleyball net while you find a place to set your things down, spreading out the beach towel you borrowed from Katara.
“Well, she’s just as sweet as I remember,” you comment, and Zuko shrugs. You watch him for a moment before asking, “Everything okay? We don’t have to go play—”
“No, it’s fine, I just… haven’t played in awhile, that’s all.”
You can tell there’s more to it, but again, it’s not something you’re going to press about, so you just smile instead. “I’m sure you’ll do fine! Now c’mon, get your ass into gear, we’ve got a game to win.”
He shakes his head, but follows you over to the net nonetheless.
“Just so you know, our games can get a little intense,” Zuko comments as you walk over, his tone somewhere between a joke and a serious warning.
“What, you don’t think I can handle it?” you ask with a laugh, not sure how to interpret the smirk he gives you.
“Just warning you, that’s all.”
Ty Lee enthusiastically waves as you approach, her other hand intertwined with Mai’s. She’s practically bouncing on tips of her toes, and you can’t fathom how a single human being is filled with that much energy… but honestly, it helps quell the anxiety you’ve been feeling all week.
“Hey Y/n,” Mai nods her head toward you, “Zuko.”
“Hey!” You don’t get the feeling that there’s any bad blood left, as you know Mai has never been much for words. The only discomfort that lingers in the air is emanating from Zuko, who still hasn’t said a thing.
So, you do the only thing you can think to do, and smile at him, trying to encourage him to loosen up.
“Hey,” he finally speaks, “so are we gonna get this game started, or what?”
Ty Lee laughs and claps her hands, and you can even see the smallest hint of a smile on Mai’s face as she rolls the ball over to Zuko. “Your serve.”
“Show us one of those killer serves, Zuko!” Ty Lee shouts, already in ready position, and you start to realize that this “game” might be a little more than you bargained for.
And when you hear the impact of Zuko’s serve, you know this is more than just a simple game of beach volleyball.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After starting to sweat and realizing how limited your mobility is, you decide to take off your outer clothes, causing Ty Lee to pause the entire game to run over and get a better look at your swimsuit, overflowing with compliments. You can feel the blush rise to your cheeks, but again, her attitude melts away most of the anxiety you’d been feeling over the swimsuit.
You find it slightly easier to keep up with them after that.
At some point, Zuko’s shirt also gets tossed aside, and you’re having trouble concentrating on your serve. It’s game point, with both teams tied, and the pressure you’re feeling is uncomfortable to say the least. Everyone’s moves are so fast and intense; you feel out of place with your simple underhand serve and wariness toward diving for the ball.
You shake your head, doing your best to avoid looking at Zuko in any… less than platonic way, and serve the ball.
Ty Lee receives it with ease, and Mai sets her up for a spike aimed directly at you. In the span of a few seconds, you have to decide between two options: duck out of the way, or try to receive the ball as it moves at what seems to be 70mph.
While every survival instinct in your body tells you to avoid the hit, you find yourself wanting to… impress these people? Or, at the very least, not let Zuko down, so you move your forearms and try to send the ball toward him.
The ball hits your skin with an impact that leaves red marks behind, but you barely notice as you watch Zuko run toward the ball at its highest point and spike it over the net, his muscles flexing with the movement. It hits the sand on the other side, Ty Lee unable to dive in time, but you’re still staring at Zuko. Hell, how do you look away from that.
He’s genuinely smiling when he looks back at you, a small but invigorated smile, and you do your best to return the look and play it off like you hadn’t just been eyeing him up.
“Aw, man!” Ty Lee pushes herself off the ground, but her pout quickly turns into a smile. “Good game, guys! That was fun!!!”
“Yeah,” Mai agrees, rolling the ball back over to her bag before taking Ty Lee’s hand. “Thanks for playing with us.”
“We’re gonna go say hi to some other guests, but feel free to grab a drink!” Ty Lee gestures to the little set-up of coolers nearby, somehow still bouncing with energy as they walk away.
“So, you didn’t feel the need to tell me that you guys were beach volleyball masters?” you ask as Zuko walks back toward you, your voice winded.
He laughs under his breath. “I don’t know if I’d go so far as to say that; I did try to warn you, though.”
“Look at my arms, Zuko,” you hold out your forearms, showing off the marks left from Ty Lee’s last spike. “Look at them! You’re telling me that’s not the work of an absolute pro?”
He rolls his eyes, showing you the lingering redness on his own palm. “Maybe you just need to toughen up.”
“Oh?” You flex your bicep, trying not to laugh at your own dumb joke before you even say it. “This not tough enough for you?”
Zuko just stares at you incredulously, then breaks out into a laugh.
You try to ignore the heat that rises to your face.
“You know what? Fine, if I can’t best you in strength then… race you to the water!” You’re already sprinting away by the end of your sentence, and you giggle as Zuko calls out “Hey!” from behind you.
Despite your head start, you can hear his footfalls close behind you, and glance back to see him only a couple steps away. “Nuh uh, no way,” you mutter to yourself, pushing harder to reach the shoreline first.
By the time you’re only a few feet away from the water, you’re toe to toe with Zuko, and in a last ditch effort, you barrel your shoulder into him. He staggers to the side, most likely only because he was caught off guard by the action, but regardless, it gives you that extra few seconds to reach the shoreline before him.
“Cheater!” he calls out as you wade further into the water, now swimming away from him. You’re about to turn around and taunt your win, albeit dubiously achieved, when a hand wraps around your ankle and pulls you back.
Suddenly, Zuko is in front of you, arms crossed. “You know I should’ve won.” There’s a glare on his face that doesn’t hide the amusement in his eyes, and you feign innocence.
“Who said there were any rules involved, hm?”
His eyes narrow, and you take the opportunity to splash a small wave of water at him, attempting to swim away before he can retaliate.
You make it a little bit farther away from him this time, but again, he grabs your leg, this time pulling you into his arms so he can pick you up and dunk you back into the water.
You resurface sputtering, both from the water in your mouth and the sudden physical contact from Zuko. Deciding to firmly ignore any thoughts sparked by the touch, you frown at him, shouting, “Oh, it is on.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By the time the sun goes down, you and Zuko are sitting beside one of the bonfires, listening to the chatter of everyone around you as you warm up. You both have your outer layers on again, the sea breeze carrying a chill that would make you shiver otherwise. Someone’s party mix is playing in the background, on a speaker small enough that the bass doesn’t sound right, but people are dancing around it anyways, drinks in hand.
 Neither of you add much to the conversation, instead opting to listen and shoot each other looks at particularly interesting quotes. It wasn’t all that different from your shifts at the Jasmine Dragon, overhearing the weirdest things from customers and judging them together. When Zuko’s eyes meet yours, brow raised after an incredibly stupid comment from a nearby frat boy, you have to stifle a laugh.
Despite all the strangers, it’s familiar, and it’s nice.
Zuko excuses himself a few minutes later, going to grab another drink, and you nod, watching the flames dance in front of you. Without someone there to make fun of everyone with, you find the fire to be a much more interesting sight, from the embers beneath the logs to the small sparks that float off the highest flames. It’s almost hypnotizing.
So, you hardly notice when someone takes Zuko’s place.
“Hi,” a voice pulls you out of your trance, and you look over to see a girl with dark hair and golden eyes. She’s smiling, but there’s something unnerving about the expression, something you can’t place. “I’m Azula, Zuko’s sister,” she reaches out to shake your hand. “You must be Zuko’s date.”
You finish the gesture, and her fingers squeeze just a little too tightly around your hand as you explain, “Oh! No, we’re just friends!”
She throws her head back with a laugh before looking you up and down. “Of course, that makes much more sense; I’ll admit, I was confused when I saw you two in the water earlier. I must say, it is so brave of you to wear a swimsuit like that.”
You feel your throat constrict, staring dumbfounded for a moment as you try to process her words. “Excuse me?”
“I mean it!” She smiles. “I admire the courage it must have taken just to put it on, let alone wear it to a party like this. You should be proud.”
There’s a glint in her eye that tells you she knows exactly what she’s doing, and you don’t know how to respond. Without Zuko next to you, you feel completely alone, surrounded by people who won’t take a second glance in your direction. It’s like you’re drowning, and the girl in front of you is holding you under.
“I— I should go,” you manage to get out, moving to stand up, but she grabs your wrist.
“No, please, stay until little Zuzu comes back! I’m sure we can find something to talk about, like how bold it was for you to show up without wearing any makeup, I mean, wow.”
The pure joy in her eyes as she meticulously picks you apart burns straight through you. “I really should go.”
When you try to yank your wrist away, she pouts, gripping it tighter. “Don’t you know it’s rude to leave in the middle of a conversation?”
Your mind struggles to keep up with the sudden change in atmosphere, how quickly the anxiety from this afternoon returns, almost doubled. Any hint of joy, any spark of laughter, it’s all fading under the piercing glare of those molten eyes… you feel trapped.
“Azula? What the hell are you doing?”
Zuko’s voice has never filled you with such relief, and thankfully, she releases her grip. “I was just introducing myself to your new friend!” She shoots him a grin before turning back to you. “What was your name again?”
Your mouth goes dry as you try to answer, and Azula laughs.
“Oh, come on, don’t be shy now. All I’ve done is compliment your confidence!”
“What are you talking about—just leave them alone, Azula.”
“Fine, whatever you say, Zuzu.” She turns to walk away, sighing, “Sue me for being nice...”
“What was that—”
“Can we go?”
Your voice is small, and you’re staring at your feet, unable to look at Zuko. You want to fade away, or disappear into the sea, or sink into the sand—anything to get away from the eyes surrounding you.
“Yeah, sure.”
Whatever questions he has, he doesn’t ask, simply follows you back to where you left your bag and towels. You can feel your hands shaking as you gather your belongings and you bite your cheek, hoping the night helps to at least somewhat mask your trembling. Get it together, idiot.
You hate that you were letting a few comments get to you this badly. Somehow, Azula managed to hit every single point of insecurity and anxiety within seconds of meeting you, and it takes everything you have to keep from spiraling right then and there.
Once you’re back in the car, you let out a sigh. It’s quiet, the music from the party faint and muffled in the background, and you can feel Zuko looking at you.
Before he can say anything, you tell him, “I’m sorry I pulled you away from the party; it seemed like you were having fun.”
Even you can hear the shake in your voice.
“Don’t worry about it; I was starting to get tired anyways.”
He starts the car, and radio static plays for a few seconds before tuning into a local station. Old rock music pours from the speakers, and you’re thankful to have something to fill the silence.
But Zuko doesn’t put the car in reverse, doesn’t so much as move to take it out of park.
“...are you okay?” His voice sounds stiff, like he’s not sure how to phrase his question, or if it’s something he should ask at all.
When you open your mouth to try and come up with some little lie, you find yourself muted by that tight feeling in the back of your throat, and all that comes out is a strangled, “I...“
Zuko sighs, a bitterness to his tone as he tells you, “Whatever Azula said, she’s just— she’s just a narcissist that gets off on putting everyone else down, her words don’t mean shit.”
It’s not like you haven’t cried in front of Zuko before. After a particularly nasty burn at work, you couldn’t stop the tears from streaming down your face. He didn’t say anything when it happened, thankfully, just let you take your time taking care of it as he covered both register and tea-making for you. Now, though, it’s different. You don’t want to cry in front of him like this. This isn’t a burn or a bruise; it’s pure shame and embarrassment and frustration. It’s searing emotional pain and you can’t let him see you like this.
“I shouldn’t have dragged you to this—“
“No, I had fun,” you insist, despite the strain in your voice. “It was a lot of fun. I’m not gonna let one bad moment ruin an entire night.”
But that isn’t up to you. Your mind has been fast at work clouding every memory with the realization that you were out there, in front of all those people, in front of Zuko, looking like that. It hurts.
“Do you… still wanna get frozen yogurt?”
The idea of trying to eat anything, let alone something so sweet, makes you feel nauseous, your stomach already turning in unease. “I think I’m gonna have to take a raincheck.” You try to keep your voice steady, try to force a smile. “You still owe me, though.”
He doesn’t tease you back. There’s no amusement in his eyes, just… worry, and you have to look away. “Can you take me home? I’m feeling tired and I— I can just get my things from Katara’s place tomorrow.”
“Sure.”
The drive home is silent.

This is kind of embarrassing to admit, but I read the first part of your story wrong and thought that Ozai died in the bath due to it over heating. After I read through the whole thing and corrected that misconception, I now wonder how different this fanfic would be if Ozai died in the bath. What major changes would be made other than lots of laughter? How would everyone react?
omg this is the best thing I’ve ever seen.
Okay, okay, here we go:
- - -
What had started as a normal day quickly delved into chaos when, in the early afternoon, a servant came running through the halls, announcing, “Someone call the Fire Sages! The Fire Lord is dead!”
There had been shock, and then everyone had kicked into high gear. It was war time, after all. They were always prepared for assassinations. They should have expected it more, honestly, what with the desperation the Earth Kingdom troops had been showing recently, and with Sozin’s Comet less than a year away.
Then, though, news had gotten out that Fire Lord Ozai had died in the bath, and not from assassins, but from the water being too hot.
The palace had lulled for a few moments when that news came out, before continuing.
Princess Azula was storming about, demanding that the Fire Sages get here faster, because she wanted to be crowned today, and the Fire Lord can only be crowned in the light of Agni.
As the Princess was rampaging, though, one servant woman, who must have been feeling particularly bold, came up to her and asked, “My princess, isn’t Prince Zuko the Crown Prince?”
All the servants in the nearby vicinity had frozen. Older ones recognized the woman, Keeli. She had always been close to the Prince Lu Ten before his tragic death. Silly woman must have convinced herself that she could speak to all royals as if they were close friends.
Princess Azula clearly was not at all entertained by Keeli’s words. She looked about ready to kill the woman before clenching her fists and saying, “Well, my brother isn’t here, now is he?” The Princess’s teeth gleamed, shiny and sharp.
Then, though, Keeli had changed the game completely when she said, “Oh, but he is, my Princess.”
Princess Azula had all but demanded that Keeli show what she meant. Some servants whispered to one another that it might be a trap for the Princess, but, then again, even if it was, the Princess would most likely be able to fight her way out without even breaking a sweat. Princess Azula clearly knew this, too, as she followed Keeli into a random door and disappeared for half of an hour. During that time, the Fire Sages arrived, and were told that the Princess would be back shortly, but to prepare for a coronation. They were told that the Fire Lord had unfortunately passed away in the bath.
No one had snorted at that.
No one.
After that half-hour was over, Princess Azula emerged with Keeli at her heels from that random door in that random corridor looking more serious and sober than anyone had ever seen her look in all of her thirteen years. She had turned to the nearest servant and demanded in an eerily calm voice that a wheelchair was needed. Then, she had disappeared back into the door, leaving Keeli there to wait for what the Princess had ordered.
Another twenty minutes later, and an emancipated Prince Zuko had emerged from the door, looking as if every breath and every movement caused pain. Princess Azula was at his side, her jaw locked into place and her eyes flaring. Blue flames danced on her fingertips, and everyone stayed wisely away.
Still, people whispered.
The Fire Sages had taken all of the revelations in stride, and Prince Zuko was crowned Fire Lord in the late afternoon sun. His father burned behind him, and he did not look back once. Instead, he stood and faced his nation, the common people crowding in with the nobles below, and smiled.
That night, at the coronation ball, Fire Lord Zuko declared that Crown Princess Azula was his official royal advisor. The Fire Lord and royal advisor had then proceeded to leave the ball and go to the party in the streets that had been hastily set-up (well, it was more like the Fire Lord had decided to go and the Crown Princess and Royal Advisor had accompanied him because 1. she was a better bodyguard than anyone else in the world and, 2., there was no way she was letting that Dum-Dum out of her sight ever again. They had picked up the Ladies Mai and Ty Lee on their way into the streets).
Fire Lord Zuko started fast on ending the war, freeing war prisoners, sending letters and signing documents with his sister at his side. One day, they were inexplicably joined by a woman dressed in Water Tribe blue. No one argued with the woman, though, because she made Princess Azula eat (who, in turn, forced the Fire Lord to eat).
Two weeks in, Princess Azula confronted Keeli, and the next day, the Fire Lord and his sister were reunited with their long-thought-dead cousin, Lu Ten (well, it was more like Fire Lord Zuko did his best in his injured state to hold his sister back and stop her from killing their cousin).
Lu Ten was officially restored his full royal status, and his family was bestowed it as well. The next day, he was made the other royal advisor. Word was that he had been forced into it by the Fire Lord and the Princess because “You learned for your whole childhood how to be Fire Lord” and “Another person here needs to know what they’re doing to keep Zuzu from sinking the whole homeland.”
Another month later, word came that General Iroh had landed in the capital.
The reunion was tearful, and people were yelling and crying and laughing and there was a very large amount of blue fire going in every direction at one point, but eventually everyone calmed down enough for General Iroh to introduce his guests.
When the general had been in the Earth Kingdom, making his way back to the Fire Nation, he had encountered the Chief of the Southern Water Tribe and invited him along, as his informers in the White Lotus had whispered to him that the Fire Lord and Crown Princess were both very close with a Water Tribe woman who called herself ‘Kya,’ just like the late wife of the Chief. Chief Hakoda had agreed to join him, though he took a few extra men with him before sending the rest on their way home.
The general had also encountered (as in, been beat up by) a young earthbender who, when the war had ended, had promptly run away from home, been captured, invented metalbending to escape, and run away again only to charge right into Iroh and the Southern Water Tribe men he traveled with. She had proceeded to lock them all in earthen cages until Iroh pleasantly invited her to tea. The girl, Toph Beifong, had then joined them, insisting she wanted to get off the continent, and a metal ship now sounded like a great idea.
Princess Azula had promptly asked the Beifong heir just how she had beaten Iroh up, and Toph had happily relayed the details. They had then transferred quickly into a test of just how good Azula was at lying.
General Iroh had turned to his son and nephew and said, “We may have just unleashed an evil upon this world greater than Sozin himself.”
Fire Lord Zuko’s story had been shared to the new arrivals, then, and both Chief Hakoda and Toph Beifong had asked where they could find Ozai. Then, they had heard he was dead. Then, they had heard how he died. While Toph laughed so hard that she almost caused an earthquake, Chief Hakoda had grumbled as his wife wrapped her arms around him, “At least it was water that did him in.”
A week later, Zuko had turned to his sister late one night as she sat on his bed and said, “Lala, I think Chief Hakoda and Lady Kya are trying to adopt us.”
Azula had responded without looking up from the document she was scanning, “Agni, Zuzu, you are slow.”
One month later, the world awoke to the news that the Avatar had returned.
Fire Lord Zuko had promptly invited the Avatar to the Fire Nation, with notes from the Chief of the Southern Water Tribe (along with his wife), the Grand Master of the White Lotus, the heir to the Beifong family (who had not, sadly, written the letter herself), and all three advisors to the Fire Lord, one of whom was the Crown Princess, one of whom was thought to be dead in a war now months gone, and one of whom was an old general who had switched sides. Iroh said they were covering all possible ground here.
One more month later, a beast that hadn’t been seen in a century touched down out of the sky and deposited the leader of the Kyoshi Warriors, the son of the Chief of the Southern Water Tribe, the last waterbender in the South Pole, and a one-hundred-and-twelve-year-old Avatar in the entrance courtyard of the Fire Nation palace.
The two Water Tribe siblings had promptly screamed and slammed into their mother in full force, and had then been joined by their father. One full family unit once more.
They had then been introduced to the Fire Lord and his sister, the Crown Princess who was now known for her madness. There had been a beat of fear before Kya had hugged the Princess and Hakoda had placed a hand on the Fire Lord’s shoulder, and Sokka had suddenly grinned and blurted out, “I always wanted a brother,” only to be socked in the shoulder by his sister.
The Leader of the Kyoshi Warriors, Suki, had immediately hopped in line with the Crown Princess and her two friends, Mai and Ty Lee, and the Fire Lord had gotten a distant look in his eye as he muttered, “They’re multiplying.”
The Fire Lord and his advisors had done all the formal “Welcome to the Fire Nation” and all that with the Avatar before the kid had groaned, asked, “Can we just go nap in a garden or something?” and promptly been dragged (along with the Fire Lord) by Toph Beifong into a private courtyard, where nine of the most weirdly diverse children (a Fire Lord, a Princess, two Fire Nation nobles, an Avatar, a Kyoshi Warrior, a Beifong heir, a single waterbender, and master Water Tribe strategist) all soon collapsed onto the ground as turtleducks gathered around them and nipped at their toes.
Later that afternoon, when the new members of their growing group of oddly-connected people found out just how Fire Lord Ozai had died (and what he had done to Zuko), Sokka had promptly turned to Aang and asked, “As the Avatar, can you, like, declare something, uh, spiritually protected or something? Because I think that needs to happen to make sure that that bath house is never torn down ever.”
There had been laughter, but then the Crown Princess had turned to the Avatar, her eyes steely, as she asked. “Can you?”
No one quite knew if Aang could, but that didn’t stop anyone, and it was done within the hour.
“That bath house stopped the war,” Katara mentioned a few hours after.
“No,” Aang said, looking ahead at the Fire Lord and the Crown Princess walking next to one another, Azula supporting Zuko just a bit and staying at his speed as he continued to readjust to walking. “They did.”

more jinjetsongko headcanons because i’m still quarantining so what the heck else am i gonna do.
shout out to @azenkii for coming up with this and supporting my nonsense. also considering calling them the ba sing se bimbos, please share your thoughts.
so like. it’s pretty clear song can handle herself, and even as they’re getting rid of the body, jet is telling her about their group and what they’re doing. song’s in shock, because murder’s not something she’s ever done (but something her mother has always prepared her to do), and so she just is kinda like “yeah, okay, i’ll join, whatever, but does the smell of death ever leave your nostrils or does it stay there forever?”
“it fades,” he tells her happily, slinging an arm around her shoulders, “but don’t worry - you’ll get used to it.”
zuko wants to punch jet in his stupid handsome face because they can’t have the girl he STOLE FROM in their stupid gang but he can’t TELL ANYONE so he’s just bitter about it until song reassures him that it’s okay, he’s forgiven.
despite her capacity for violence, song does not Vibe With It, so she ends up acting as a lookout most of the time. there are other drugs, ones that just put people to sleep for a while instead of killing them, and she tends to use those on any suspicious parties.
if she’s ever in a serious bind, though, she carries a set of needles hidden up her sleeve. just because she’s the least Down with Murder doesn’t mean she isn’t down with it at all. she’s not a freaking narc.
jin previously was Not Down with Murder but when you hide a dead body you have to very quickly Get Down with Murder or Get Gone, so she gets down with it. everything else about her friends (arsonist, terrorist, deadly apothecary) quickly becomes categorized as extremely normal because otherwise her brain would explode.
best asset is her knowledge of the city, and the fact that she can get information from anyone, anywhere. she’s got more street smarts than any of the “country bumpkins” as she affectionately calls her friends, and she puts this skill to good use.
she wants to be able to fight, too, and since both zuko and jet wield dual weapons, that’s how she learns.
(plus, the idea of all four of them being dual-weapons wielders is cool and fun so i’m running with it)
she steals away into the small trunk of family heirlooms that sits hidden beneath a floorboard in her building, and procures two sickles her father used during his time on the farm. interestingly, theyre about the same size and weight as the kyoshi warriors’ fans. if jin were to ever find herself amongst the kyoshi warriors, she’d probably fit in. just a thought.
jin, like jet, is unrefined and fights dirty, but it works and gets the job done. zuko fights with honor and fury. song is light on her feet, and her goal is mainly to get the fight over with. all in all, they make a good team.
obviously, iroh and song’s mother adopt them all. jin is the natural favorite, being genuinely likable and funny, and also the most normal. iroh is also still hoping she’ll marry zuko one day, and song’s mother basically sees any teen girls she meets as someone to be Cherished and Protected anyway.
jet is definitely the least favorite but is also Begrudgingly Beloved by the adults. both iroh and song’s mother are too smart to fall for his slick words, but they find his efforts to be charming endearing. plus, they both know boy soldiers when they see them, and it’s hard for them not to want to be a parent to a kid who’s been through so much.
song and her mother love teasing zuko and iroh for their past encounter. song’s usually the one teasing iroh, and he takes it in stride, always offering her free tea and treats and dramatically begging her forgiveness in a way that absolutely makes zuko sweat bullets. song’s mother is the one who teases zuko, but he’s so awkward and weird about it she just ends up feeling bad and giving him an extra serving of dinner, which jin and jet loudly protest.
all three teens have a different version of a backstory for zuko and iroh. they’ve all shared their lives with each other, except for zuko, and no matter how much they pester iroh he insists it’s not his story to tell.
jin works the circus angle for a loooong time, knowing full well he was full of shit when he said he was in the circus, but hoping to make zuko perform increasingly ridiculous stunts so as to vindicate himself. he draws the line at the tightrope, and gets weirdly quiet about it, so she drops it.
jet thinks zuko was in the war, which is how he got his scar. he assumes zuko and iroh are so poor because they didn’t get any sort of compensation for their part in defending the earth kingdom, which is just what he would expect from their “government”, or as jet calls it, The Man.
song assumes zuko got his scar the same way she did, when the fire nation invaded his and iroh’s village and probably took his father away, too. she also assumes this is what’s hardened him to the world, and is glad he seems to be loosening up a bit around his friends.
jin is the closest, believing zuko and iroh to be deserters of the fire nation, but she guesses they’re from the colonies. she also definitely thinks iroh’s earth kingdom (you can’t live in ba sing se and love it THAT MUCH without having a little earth kingdom blood in you. no way no how). she assumes that zuko got his scar for his treachery, that he left the fire nation because he believed it was Evil. secretly, she believes he’s incredibly brave.
after the war, zuko casually mentions that he got his scar from his father.
“your what now?” jin asks in disbelief. my father, zuko tells her. he recounts the war meeting, the agni kai, all of it.
“and your father, the ex-firelord, he did this?” song asks, deadly calm, messing with a few vials of something Very Dangerous and Very Painful.
“the ex-firelord as in the ex-firelord locked up in the capital prison, that guy did that to you?” jet asks, just as calm, sharpening his hooks. zuko says yes, not sure why they’re being so weird.
“we’ll be back later,” jin tells him. “we have to go do something totally unrelated.”
it takes zuko way too long for the penny to drop because by the time he catches up to them they’ve knocked out half the prison guards and are screaming about vengeance.
(secretly, he’s touched, but he wishes he’d learned his lesson because he goes through the same thing with sokka and katara about a month later).

Destiny - Chapter One
Author’s Note: Wow, ok, so it’s been so long since I’ve written anything, let alone a fic about Avatar the Last Airbender. I used to watch this when I was little, and now that it’s back in Netflix, I couldn’t resist. Please tell me if you like it, what I can improve, etc. I would love to hear feedback!
Summary:  You are the daughter of the handmaid who served as Queen Ursa’s right hand servant. One night, the handmaid helps Ursa plot Azulon’s death and helps her escape. However, your mother is caught and is charged with conspiracy and accessory of the crime. That day, your family broke apart, torn away from your nation that you thought you loved, and away from your best friend, Zuko. Years pass, and after so many years apart, you finally face your old childhood friend again. However, things have changed. You are no longer that same servant girl in the Fire Nation Palace and Zuko is no longer that Prince you once knew. Funny, how Destiny could entangle your paths together. What will the future hold? (Zuko x Reader) [Next - Chapter Two] Chapter One
You stood behind your mother, clutching a basket of stale bread. Standing as still as possible, you held your breath in hopes to stay even stiller. But as 8 year old, your attention could only span only for so long and the strain for standing still for so long began to wear you down.
"Mother -" The sharp turn of your mother's skirts was enough to still you. "Hush child, we must stay polite and still." Your temper flared momentarily. Why did you have to stand so still while Zuko played with the turtle ducks as much as he can?! It wasn’t fair. Pouting, you crossed your arms in huff, only to be pinched by your mother shortly after. “You need to have decorum, child, if you are to be the head of the maid staff in the future like me. The palace requires us to behave and be seen a certain way. Do not think that just because you are friends with the Prince Ozai’s son that you can get away with anything. It is not proper for you to be friends with him, but since Lady Ursa has urged it so, I will honor it.” Even as a child, you could feel the tension radiating from her and it made you look up towards her. When she noticed your stare, she leaned down and whispered, “Please my child. Be diligent and show manners, if not we can in big trouble with the Prince Ozai who is not as kind as the Princess Ursa.” You nod and your eyes cast downward. When your mother initially explained what she did for the palace one night over dinner, you were elated. The palace was big and you imagined every room to be full of treasures and jewels. Your imagination ran rampant and when your mother invited you to join her one day to start your observation for servant training, you were more than excited. But nothing could have prepared you for the utter boredom it came with in following order after order, etiquette after etiquette. Luckily, you easily made friends with the Prince Ozai’s son, Zuko. It happened by chance one day. You were closely following your mother when the spell of fresh baked breakfast pastries wafted from the kitchen to the hallway. You stopped abruptly, your mother still walking down the hallway, oblivious that you were slowly tip toeing your way to the kitchens. As you got closer and closer to the kitchen door, you listened careful through it and opened the door just a bit to peek. When you saw nothing, you opened the kitchen door widely and found the pastries on a plate on top of kitchen counter. Your mouth watered as you stood right next to the counter and tried to grab one of the pastries, your short arms, however, were not long enough to reach the plate. You struggled, even going on your tip toes to see if you could reach further. As you were about to touch the plate, a gasp could be heard and it scared you, making you shriek in return and knocking over a bag of flour over and spilling all over you. the flour tasted bitter in your mouth as you cough, plumes of white powder puffed all over the air as you struggled to see through all the flour on your face. “You’re not supposed to be here! Mother!” Footsteps were heard and the next thing you knew, a fit of giggles could be heard. Finally, you wiped the last of the flour from your eyes and they widened.
Your mother was going to kick you to the spirit world.
“There you are! I’ve been looking all over - your majesty!” Your mother walked into the kitchens, her eyes full of horror at the sight of you covered head to toe in flour, caught by the Lady Ursa and her son.
“It’s ok, Alina. Looks like she just wandered off and was curious. Were you just trying to get a fruit pastry? What is your name sweet child?” Ursa kneeled to your level, her arm outreached towards you.
  You glanced at your mother who still had harsh look in her eye, but nodded reluctantly. Looking at the Ursa again, you were awestruck. She was very beautiful and looked very kind. Zuko who stood next to her, looked at you with curiosity and a timid smile. Reaching over, you slip your small hand onto the queens and she shook it gently. “I’m (YN). And yes I was trying to get the pastry. I stopped by and it smelled so good. I didn’t mean to knock the flour over.”
Ursa laughed, the sound melodic and soothing to your ears. Her presence was warm and inviting and you scooted closer to her. “Such a pretty name (YN). This is my son, Zuko.”
  Zuko looked over to her and smiled widely, “Wanna split a pastry?!”
Your eyes gleamed, “Yes! I would like to share it with you, Zuko!”
Ursa and your mother exchanged looks, before your mother cracked a smile. From that day on, you and Zuko because friends.
“Come on, duckling. We’re needed inside. Let’s go.” Your mother’s voice pulls you out of your day dreaming and she opened her palm for you to take before you slip your small hand onto hers, her palm rough, but still soft. You glanced over your shoulder, catching Zuko’s eyes who waved and turned back to his mother.
 A couple of days later, you hear of General Iroh’s son’s passing while in battle.
It was devastating news. You briefly met General Iroh right before he left for Ba Sing Se. He and Ursa had sat by the gardens drinking tea while you and Zuko fed some of the turtle ducks. He seemed such a warm and kind man, even showing you fire trick that made your eyes wide and gleam with wonder. That was your first real taste of fire-bending and a small flame ignited within as you hope that one day you could fire-bend like him.
There was nothing but warmth when Ursa, Iroh and Zuko were together. Lady Ursa was so fond of General Iroh who would often treat her son like his own. Seeing all of them together made you so happy. You remembered inviting everyone for a tea party when Iroh returned from Ba Sing Se.
But General Iroh would never return to the fire nation - not until for while.
After Lu Ten’s death - everything changed.
------------------------
You awoke to the sound of your door creaking open, a small sliver of light filtering through. Sitting up and rubbing your eyes from sleep, you mumbled, “Mother?”
“Hush, child. I have to be quick.”
Eyes scanning the dark, your eyes finally refocused on your mother’s face that was in front of you. Reaching up to cup her cheek, you noticed that it was wet - she had been crying. A chill went down your spine. Your mom rarely cried for anything - she was one the strongest people you know. For her to cry…something really bad must’ve happened. “Is everything ok?”
There was a beat of silence before she whispered quietly, “Y-yes, my love. Everything is ok. Know that I love you no matter what happens and that I will always be with you.”
You tilted your head in confused but shoved it to the back of your head when you felt your body call back for sleep. “I love you too mother. I’m tired now, can I go back to sleep?” You ask with a yawn.
She chuckled lowly, tucking a hair behind your ear. “Yes my love. I hope your dreams are filled with cake and sweetness.”
You giggle and nod tiredly, “And we’ll have a tea party with you, Lady Ursa, and Zuko.”
Your eyes flickered shut and your mother looked at you with sadness. “Yes, my love. We’ll have a lovely tea party with everyone.” She kisses your forehead, whispers a goodbye, and turns to leave the room. She glances one last time at your sleeping form before looking at the doorway where Ursa stood with tears in her eyes.
“I’m so sorry Alina...to pull you into this.”
Alina, with tears falling from her eyes, takes Ursa’s hands and kisses the knuckles, noting the trembling hands. “You do not deserve this brutality and this life, my queen. Anything for you.”
Ursa trembles, more tears spilling from her eyes. “I hope our children will be shielded from this brutality. They do not deserve it.”
They hold hands one last time and Alina whispers, “For them.”
Ursa nods, “For our children.”
---------------------
A short while after, you awoke with the strangest dream. Your mother had come to your dream and something about tea parties. Yawning and stretching, you took note of your mother’s absence in the servant’s room. Your brows furrowed, your mother would have awaken you by now with a cup of hot tea and some gook she made for breakfast, but it was eerily quiet.
  “Mother?”
Silence.
A pang of fear washes over you. Something was wrong.
You got out of bed and rushed to put on your servant’s attire, which was just a simple red dress with the fire nation emblem on the chest. You ran through the halls looking for you mother, but the palace seems to be empty. Until you ran into Zuko and Azula. Azula scared you. She wasn’t kind or warm like Zuko, if anything she always seemed to be plotting and being mean, even though she was younger than you.
“Where’s Mom?” Zuko demands.
Azula shrugs nonchalantly. “No one knows. Oh, and last night, Grandpa pass away.”
You gasp quietly, hiding behind a pillar.
“Not funny Azula! And I want my knife back, now.” Zuko makes a grab for it, but misses when Azula steps away.
She waves the knife in front of him, and taunts, “Who’s going to make me? Mom?”
With hands fisted in anger, you move from your spot from behind the pillar and say. “You better stop that Azula, give the knife back to Zuko and tell us where Queen Ursa is!”
Zuko gasps and Azula sneers with a glare. “Go back to the kitchens, servant. You do not talk to me that way - wait. You’re Alina’s daughter right?”
You tremble, “Y-yes..why?!”
  She saunters over you, twirling the knife expertly as if she wasn’t an 8 year little girl. “Rumor has it that your mother murdered our Grandpa last night. Her trial should be over by now…”
You gasped. Your mother? Poisoned the Firelord? Eyes flashing, you snarl, "You're a liar!"
Azula glances at the clock and tuts with her tongue, smiling wickedly when the Firelor’s chamber’s doors opened with guards and fire mages walking out. Some had tears in their eyes, others looked angry. “Well good timing.”
The mages talked amongst themselves and as they walk passed you, but Azula was able to tug one of the mage’s sleeve and they stopped and bowed for her. “Oh dear fire mage, you must excuse me. Can you please tell me what happened in my father’s chambers?”
The mage shook with anger. “That lowly servant scum murdered our great leader. Oh Hail Firelord Azulon Her punishment is death.”
Coldness seeped through you as you saw Zuko’s eyes widen before turning his head to look at you. The mage quietly left, shaking his head while crying for the loss of their great leader.
“I wonder what they’re going to do with you - the traitor’s daughter.” Azula slowly and purposefully towards you, like a predator hunting their prey.
“We don’t want any traitors here.”
She continued to stalk towards you, your back meeting the pillar. Even though she was younger than you, she scared you. “You will get what you deserve, traitor.”
Azula sneered before spinning the knife in her hand and plunging the knife into your chest. ---------------
You gasped, springing out of bed while you clutched your chest.
  It was just a dream.
  Cold sweat had seeped through the bedsheets and you groan, shivering in your small apartment. You felt for your chest and, although the knife felt real, it was just a dream.
Pulling your knees to your chest, you silently wept.
  After hearing your mother’s crime and her punishment, you and the rest of your family - your father and younger brother - only saw her briefly one last time in her cell before she was whisked away. The punishment for traitors was death - and her death was a cruel one. You and your family, and the rest of the nation, were forced to watch her burn at the stake, her screams of agony and pain forever etched into your memory.
Soon after, the new Firelord ordered the banishment of your family. You didn’t even have time to say goodbye to your good friend Zuko. They had ripped you from him right before you left, screaming and crying for him while Zuko couldn’t do anything.
Azulo told him that you were being taken to another palace to be a servant. It made him sad to see his friend go without even a goodbye. He locked himself in his room, crying gently as he wished for his mother’s warmth and your soft giggles as they played.
It was the last time you would ever see each other.
You got out of bed, sighing when your feet met the cold tile floor, moving slowly to get started on boiling some water for tea and getting a pot of gook ready - just like what your mother had always made for you.
  Years passed and when you were 13, you learned of Zuko’s banishment - the reason unknown to you. There were rumors that the Firelord had branded his own son with a mark - a mark that you knew would come from an Agni Kai.
This only solidified your opinion towards the Fire Nation at that age - the Fire Nation was hungry for greed and power and would use fire to threaten others into submission. When you were 13, you had nothing but hate towards the nation that burned your mother and destroyed your family.
You remembered feeling sad for him, and thought about reaching out to him by sending a messenger hawk But would he even remember you? Zuko had never once tried to make contact with you so why would you reach out to him?
But was three years ago, and now, at 16, you could hardly remember your childhood friend’s face anymore.
  The past was a nightmare to you, one where you tried not to dwell for too long. You had made peace of what happened to you and your family a while ago, but certain things still haunted you. You were still angry, sure, but you had come to understand that there was nothing that you could have done.
  You thought that by forgetting your past, you could somehow make peace with it... ...but Destiny is a funny thing. And she had other plans for you.

Kataang Week 2021: Day 7- Free Day
Hey, everyone! I can’t believe Kataang Week is over; it’s been a fun ride.
I know I’m a day late on the final piece, but I wanted it to fit my vision perfectly. Since the prompt was Free Day, I asked my Instagram followers for ideas on what to write. The winning idea was First “I Love You,” so that’s what I wrote.
Words: 1,607
You can find my ff.net account here, where the entirety of my Kataang Week submissions will be, as well as my other stories.
---------------
After their kiss in Ba Sing Se, Aang and Katara figured out what they meant to each other, despite Sokka’s intrusion.
When they reunited with their friends inside of the Jasmine Dragon, both of their faces were as red as apples and they couldn’t stop smiling. Toph was the first to speak up, taking the new couple by surprise.
From her place at the table, the blind earthbender smirked and sipped her tea.
“So, by the fast pace of your heartbeats, I’d say Twinkle Toes finally made his move.”
Aang and Katara blushed harder and hung their heads at Toph’s comment. Zuko smiled and looked to Mai, whose lips had also begun to curve upwards on the sides.
Katara saw their interaction out of the corner of her eye and lifted her head, turning it to face them fully.
“What are you two smiling about? Did you know, too?”
Mai nodded slowly, “well, we had a bet going on, and Zuko and I just won.”
Aang’s eyebrows raised inquisitively at the older couple.
“A bet for what?”
From across the room, they heard an annoyed huff from Sokka, and a giggle from Suki. The latter was sitting on the couch, practically consoling her boyfriend to keep him from tearing up.
“To see how long it would take for you two to finally get together,” Suki said. “You’ve been dancing around each other for months.”
Sokka rolled his eyes and huffed again, “my guess was that it wouldn’t be until a few months from now, so I lost.”
His girlfriend giggled and twined her fingers in his, then looked to Aang and Katara.
“I said it would happen before the comet, so I lost a long time ago.”
Katara glanced at Aang who had a confused look on his face, then turned to Toph.
“What was your guess, Toph?”
Their blind friend let out a snicker and leaned back in her chair, placing her feet on the table in front of her, resulting in a look from Iroh.
“Well, Sugar Queen,” she said with a smirk. “I knew you two had feelings for each other the moment I met you. The fast heartbeats and the way you talked to each other were hard to ignore.”
She stopped for a moment, choosing her next words wisely.
“I told everyone that if you or Twinkle Toes didn’t make a move soon, I would have to intervene. So, I guess I lost. But hearing Sokka’s grumbles made it worth it.”
Aang and Katara shared a look and he spoke, “so all of you knew before we did?”
Zuko shrugged and chuckled, much to everyone’s surprise.
“Well, you weren’t very subtle about your feelings, and Katara’s were pretty much solidified in my eyes when she threatened me.”
The airbender turned to his new girlfriend, surprised. “You threatened Zuko? When?”
Her face flushed in embarrassment for what she had said to the firebender when he first joined their group.
“I did, but that’s a story for another time.”
Iroh, having not said anything throughout the entire event, chuckled from across the room. Everyone looked at him and he shook his head, a smile spread across his face.
He looked to the new couple with a look of approval before speaking.
“I, too, could see the connection between you two when we first met. There was no denying the sparks and evident love that emanated from one to the other. I knew it wouldn’t be long before one of you would give in to the love.”
Aang blushed and reached for Katara’s hand cautiously, and she smiled at him.
The rest of the evening was spent talking and laughing among friends, celebrating both the end of the war and the new relationship between the Avatar and his waterbending master.
***
Over the course of the next two months, Aang and Katara, as well as their friends had been traveling the world, tidying up loose ends from the war. Most of the time, they were either in the Fire Nation or the colonies in the Earth Kingdom, trying to stop the rebellions.
Aang and Katara had been officially together for the same amount of time and were becoming more comfortable with each other each day. They still blushed whenever they looked at one another other, and Aang still asked permission before kissing her. Katara had started to ride next to him on Appa’s neck, much to her brother’s dismay.
They had only just begun to kiss in front of their friends, but it was never more than a quick peck. Katara shot Sokka a look each time he said “oogies,” and Aang chuckled at their banter.
Suki gave the waterbender relationship advice, having only been in one for a little while longer. Aang had passed Sokka up on the offer, and instead asked Zuko for guidance whenever he needed it.
While they knew how they felt about each other and were confident in their relationship, neither one had said the L-word yet.
Aang had only said it aloud twice: once to Guru Pathik when he was told to let her go, and once in his daydream before the invasion. It wasn’t that he doubted his love for her- not at all. He was just nervous that if he told her something as big as that, it might scare her away. The airbender knew that Katara liked him, and he wasn’t oblivious to the way she looked at him. But was she in love with him yet? He couldn’t know for sure.
Katara was more reserved with her feelings when it came to saying them aloud. She was more of a “show, don’t tell” kind of person, and Aang accepted that. She preferred to show her affection in the little things- holding his hand, kissing his cheek, and even leaning her head on his shoulder. The waterbender had known for awhile that she loved Aang but hadn’t yet told him. She was scared, afraid that he would choose another girl instead of her. After all, he was the Avatar, and girls were being thrown at him left and right. Whether it be a fangirl or a nobleman’s daughter, Katara was nervous that he would move on to someone better. Thus, leaving her to keep her feelings inside.
They were currently sitting together in their house in Ba Sing Se, waiting to get ready for the Earth King’s party.
Since the end of the war, King Kuei had held a party in his palace for anything, no matter how small. This time, it was a celebration for his oldest guard’s 10-year anniversary of serving for him. Katara had giggled when they received the invitation but was excited, nonetheless. She loved being able to go out with her boyfriend, and Aang loved showing her off to the world.
King Kuei had given them the same house they stayed in during the war, allowing for each of them to stay comfortably.
Sokka and Suki were doing some last-minute shopping before the party, and Toph was in her room taking a nap. This left Aang and Katara alone in the living room, which they didn’t mind at all.
Aang sat on the couch with Katara laying down beside him, her head on his lap. She was slowly falling asleep while he softly moved his fingers across her cheek. The airbender looked at her and smiled.
She moved slightly, turning over onto her back so she could see him. Upon seeing his smile, she returned it tenderly.
His mind was wandering slightly, but never strayed from thoughts of his waterbender. Seeing her so calm, so comfortable, he knew it was time.
Aang gently moved a piece of hair from her face, thumb lingering on her skin. She leaned into his hand and closed her eyes, her smile never faltering.
“Katara?” he said quietly.
“Hm?”
He smiled at her serene face, rubbing her cheek softly.
“Have I ever told you how beautiful you are?”
She giggled and opened an eye before closing it again.
“Always. But you can say it however many times you wish.”
Aang chuckled and rolled his eyes softly, “I mean it, Sweetie. You’re absolutely gorgeous.”
Katara smiled and opened her eyes, bringing her own hand to cup his cheek.
“And,” he started, albeit a bit hesitantly. “There’s something I need to tell you. Something that I should have said a long time ago.”
The waterbender became worried and gently pulled her hand away from his face. He caught it softly in his and twined his fingers with hers, a smile plastered on his face.
He waited a few moments, watching the wheels spin in her head. She was nervous, not knowing what it was he was about to tell her. The airbender rubbed her hand with his thumb and smiled even wider, eyes filled with devotion.
“I love you, Katara.”
She couldn’t help the small gasp of surprise that escaped her lips, and her eyes went wide, just for a moment.
“He loves me,” she thought to herself. “He really loves me.”
She blushed and tears began to fill her eyes. She blinked them away and sat up slowly, eyes never leaving his.
Katara placed a hand on his cheek softly and smiled, before pulling him into a kiss. He returned it, placing his own hand on the back of her head, fingers dancing with her hair, pulling her closer. She pulled away after a few moments and rested her forehead on his, a smile on her face.
Their eyes stayed closed as they caught their breaths, not moving from each other’s hold.
“I love you too, Aang.”
---------------
Thank you for an amazing Kataang Week 2021. Until next time.  :)

idk if you've read/seen the book/movie but just... love, simon zukka au ?? sokka as simon and zuko as bram because blue spirit ( though if we r going for it personality-wise maybe switch their roles? idk ! ) — also in this one the friends are exponentially better
ok im so sorry I haven’t actually seen love, simon or read the book but.... I HAVE ACCESS TO WIKIPEDIA SO LETS GO
ok so I was considering Zuko as Simon bc of the musical thing/the loving parent (Iroh), the girl he sees Sokka (Bram) kiss is Suki.... but also bc I just love writing Zuko (maybe I’ll parse that out at the end)
BUT lets go with Sokka as Simon bc I also love writing the Gaang
Sokka is Simon
Katara is both Nora and Abby
Jet is Martin
Aang is Nick (but slightly also Abby)
Zuko is blue/Bram
Suki is Leah (but slightly also Nick)
Toph is Ethan (sorta)
Haru is Lyle
Ok so, obv this follows the plot of the movie/book. Sokka is a gay + closeted junior, not that his dad isn’t loving, but he’s in the military, and occasionally makes homophobic jokes, and Sokka feels like he has to be tough for him, esp. since his mom died. But he really likes making people laugh and so he joins the school musical, which is a comedy this year.
His best friend is Suki, who he’s known since he was a kid, but he’s kinda been withdrawing from her since he got to high school. He loves her, he really does, but everyone always thinks they’re dating, and it kinda makes him uncomfortable. He tried to like her, when they were younger, but he just... isn’t into girls. His friend group is Suki, Katara (his sister, and it was the two of them against the world since their mom died, but he’s pulled away from her too), Aang (a transfer freshman from out of state), and Toph (who spent up till 8th grade at a private school).
Also in the musical is Zuko, a hot senior who’s like.... super lofty. He gets really into theater, but he rarely interacts with people outside his friend group, like he’s better than them or something. (Mai and Ty Lee are also there, they’re Zuko’s friends.) Not in the musical, but in one of the other clubs Sokka is in, is Jet. He got kicked off the football team for being too rough with the other team last year, so he mostly just hangs out behind the bleachers smoking.
Sokka’s on the school’s tumblr one day (shut up, Katara, I don’t have a tumblr!!) when he sees someone posted an anonymous confession saying they’re gay but they really don’t have anyone they can talk to because of their family situation. Sokka gets their email (BlueSpirit) and start emailing (BoomerangDude) them for a couple of months. He learns that Blue’s family has really high expectations of him, and since he’s only a year away from college he can’t mess them up because if he does he’ll be cut off, and he can’t afford college if that happens. He’s got a sadistic little sister (who isn’t actually terrible, she’s just got her own shit going on, and if shoving Zuko in the warpath of their father takes the spotlight off of her, all the better) who would absolutely out him if she knew, a girl he’s pretty sure wants to date him (Mai), and an after-school job (the tea shop) thats cutting into his extra-curricular activities.
This is.... really similar to Sokka, actually, and he likes making Blue laugh (they switch to chatting online sometimes, like discord or some chat app), and Blue has a lot of insights on things Sokka likes (some of the same music,
Meanwhile, Sokka ends up going to this tea shop he heard about from Blue (it had been a slip, Zuko had NOT meant to say too many personal details, but he’d mentioned getting some kind of boba drink) and studying there with his friends. While he’s there, he’s surprised to see Zuko, who he’s never spoken to outside of the musical they’re working on!! (At some point, Zuko checks his phone and laughs, and Sokka’s like, oh no, I’m crushing on.... TWO DUDES???? BAD SOKKA). He starts to wonder if maybe.... Zuko is Blue?? it generally sorta fits, he knows Zuko is also a senior, and the tea shop Blue mentioned.... (to be fair, though, they see like three other kids from school there, so it’s not really a niche place)
Before Sokka can test out this theory, though, there’s a Halloween party which Sokka goes to with his friends. (They go as the Power Rangers.) He sees Zuko there (he’s in some some Kabuki costume), but with him is.... Mai from the play. They’re making out, and Sokka feels his stomach drop-- he’s not gay and Sokka’s crushing on a straight guy. He gets drunk. He throws up in the bushes outside, and Katara finds him, chews him out, and then sneaks him back home.
He emails Blue again, drunk, and says some stupid stuff like he wishes things were easier, and that he thought he knew who Blue was, but he didn’t. (Blue doesn’t reply.)
He’s checking his email on a school computer in the library when the bell rings, and he doesn’t log out properly, and Jet, who is skipping class, finds Sokka’s emails. He confronts Sokka about them, and says he won’t reveal Sokka’s secret... if Sokka helps Jet get with Sokka’s hot sister. Sokka hates the idea, but also, the idea of being outed is really terrifying. So he says yes, and tries to talk up Jet to Katara, who’s a little surprised bc while she thinks Jet is hot, Sokka was super against Jet whenever she mentioned it. Katara is involved in school politics, and convinces Jet to pretend to be interested to spend time with her. (he ends up running against her...)
Around Thanksgiving, with all their extended family there, ribbing him about getting a girlfriend (asking about Suki), Sokka leaves and goes to sit on the roof. Katara finds him there, and demands he spill whats up and why he’s acting so weird, especially about Suki. (she looks freaked out for a moment, and is like.... oh my god, sokka, is suki pregnant?????? sokka blanches at that) He admits he’s gay, and she hugs him, and they stay out there until their dad sticks his head out the window and calls them inside.
Feeling guilty about Jet, Sokka admits to Blue their emails might have been compromised. Blue starts to back away, taking longer and longer to answer emails.
At a football game, Sokka runs into Haru, who starts asking him stuff, and Sokka wonders if he’s Blue, but it turns out Haru is interested in Katara. Upset, again, that he doesn’t know who Blue is, he encourages Jet to “go big or go home”-- and so Jet asks Katara out by bribing the kid who does the scoreboard to switch out his campaign ad for asking Katara out. Katara is shocked, as she thought Jet was really interested in her campaign. She slaps him.
Mad that Katara wasn’t interested after all, and from the slap, Jet outs Sokka anyway, posting the emails on the school’s gossip site. Katara, who was mad at Sokka, instantly forgives him and is on a WARPATH against Jet, but Sokka just wants it left alone. Suki shows up a few hours later, and finds him on the roof. She admits that she had a crush on him, which was why she never said anything when people asked if they were a couple, but she knew Sokka wasn’t interested in her, so she never pushed it. She’s sorry she made it difficult for him to come out to her.
Blue is upset their emails have leaked, and deletes his account.
He comes out to his dad later, in the car, on the way to school on the last couple of days before winter break. His dad takes it well, and apologizes for all of the jokes he used to make-- it doesn’t make it right, but it was the kind of things he and the other soldiers used to say to each other. He ends up taking them to this tea shop he heard about (it’s Zuko’s/Iroh’s shop), and while there, he comes out to the owner of the shop, Iroh, as sort of..... practice. It’s liberating and also terrifying. Iroh is super cool about it, and tells them about his own son, who passed away a few years ago in an accident, was gay. It’s way later than Sokka thought, and when he looks up from the conversation with Iroh, Zuko’s standing in the doorway. not wanting to deal with people from school, Sokka leaves the tea shop without waiting for his dad to follow him.
The next couple of days at school are rough. His friends stick by his side, but Jet’s friends are obnoxious and loud, and Katara punches one of them. She goes to the school, but they’re eternally unhelpful bc.... what can tey do... its not a school website..... Later, Toph tells Sokka she’s a lesbian, and it’s not that she’s hiding it, but... it’s already tough enough when people treat her like she’s glass because she’s blind. They all go home for winter break, and when they come back, Sokka is refreshed and determined not to be put down by a couple of assholes.
He’s wildly surprised when Blue posts on the school’s tumblr that he wants to meet Sokka at the school’s carnival. This draws a crowd, which makes Sokka worried he’s gonna be pranked, but when he sits down on the Ferris wheel, he’s surprised that Zuko from the tea shop/musical sits down next to him.
Zuko says he’s sorry for ignoring Sokka’s emails, and he’s sorry that Sokka got outed to the school, and it wasn’t his fault that Sokka was blackmailed, and he should have reacted better to it. Sokka apologizes too, because Zuko shouldn’t have to be outed either, which... is why they’re here? Zuko blushes, and says he came out to his uncle, who’s letting him stay with him, since he’s tired of going home to his shitty dad, and that he might go live with his mom while he’s in college. He admits the Mai thing at the party was a drunken misunderstanding, and that he likes Sokka. He thinks he’s funny, and they like the same things (theater, music, strange taste in food...), and he’s hoping after this... Sokka might like him too? (they kiss on the Ferris wheel, and Katara takes like, 30 pictures.)
....
alternatively////
Zuko as Simon au-- bc I just wanted to write it out. he lives with his uncle, who’s the loving parent here, not Ozai!! (or his Mom/stepdad but I kinda forgot they existed for like 5 minutes)
Zuko is Simon
Katara is Abby (she’s his lab partner, and they have the same temperment)
Azula is Nora, but she doesn’t really play a big role (she’s an asshole, but also she’s 14 and is Going Through Things. she’s also in the closet and in love with Mai, but she doesn’t know it yet. it takes her a couple of years to figure that out.)
Mai is Leah
Aang is Martin (but less of an asshole. just the embarrassing + frustrated bits.)
Sokka is blue/Bram
Suki is the girl at the party Sokka kisses
Ty Lee is Ethan
---
I HOPE THIS WAS OK, like I said I haven’t actually seen the thing, but now I actually know what the plot is about!! <3333

Avatar: The Last Airbender, Series Finale: Sozin’s Comet
In case you’re finding this post just by browsing the tags I’ve used for this post, this is the Watchathon, a blog where I’m hoping to watch an episode of a TV show every weekday, with a short blog post where I write down my thoughts as I watch. Each new thought starts with a hyphen and a bolded first word.
- Like so. Now that the introductions are over with, it’s time to break that one-episode-a-day rule and finish off Avatar: The Last Airbender with the climactic grand finale, Sozin’s Comet:
Tumblr media
PART 1: THE PHOENIX KING
- Okay, so, Katara in the intro is still saying “He has a lot to learn before he’s ready to save anyone.” I could’ve sworn they removed that part by this point... Maybe that was just something for the DVD?
- I like that the “Previously on” segment is so long. It really emphasizes how much buildup there was to this. How much the Gaang has been through to get here.
- I gotta say, I was not expecting a beach party in this episode.
- Somehow, for reasons I can’t explain because I don’t understand them myself, this ambush from Zuko made the audio of Nicolas Cage saying “Surprise attack!” in Into the Spider-Verse play in my head.
- Zuko’s really lucky that he earned Katara’s forgiveness before this violent pop quiz, seeing as just a half season ago... “You take one step backwards... one slip up... give me one reason to think you might hurt Aang - and you won't have to worry about your destiny anymore. Because I'll make sure your destiny ends right then and there. Permanently.”
- It never occurred to me that we didn’t get details on the war meeting before now.
- I’d bet hearing about this plan is the thing that tipped the scales and fully convinced Zuko to join the Gaang, and prevent the genocide of the Earth Kingdom.
- It’s so nice to see Zuko being welcomed into the group hugs. Especially when it’s Katara who invites him.
- I like that Zuko is teaching Aang to redirect lightning, the same way Iroh taught him.
- Even before it’s made explicit, you can tell that Aang’s uneasy about the idea of killing.
- Toph is just delighting in her role as Melon Lord, isn’t she?
- Someone out there has definitely written an AU fanfic where someone gets killed during this training and it’s Toph’s origin story as the malicious Melon Lord. If not, then I will write it myself, and it shall be the crackiest crack fic that ever cracked.
- Y’know what, I wish Toph could’ve actually gone on a life-changing field trip with Zuko too! Everyone else got one...
- This scene of Sokka climbing into Appa’s mouth is even more uncomfortable once you’ve... well, once you’ve grown up and... Okay, I tried to put it subtly, but I just can’t: Once you’ve been cursed with the knowledge of what vore is.
- Well, there’s a bait-and-switch if I’ve ever seen one: “Azula, you’re the new Fire Lord!” “=)” “But I am now the Phoenix King and still your superior who you will answer to.” “=O”
- Nice to see June and her Shirshu make a comeback.
- Does this mean Aang wasn’t running away on purpose? I honestly thought he was just going to that island to get some alone time, maybe meditate or contact the previous Avatars’ spirits.
PART 2: THE OLD MASTERS
- I’m not sure if this is something I forgot from June’s first appearance, or if it’s actually just never been brought up before, but I didn’t know her Shirshu had a name.
- It’s sweet that Zuko is seeking out Iroh’s help. Even if the method of finding him is, ah, well... unorthodox.
- Even Avatar Roku doesn’t know where Aang is. And here I thought it was some Avatar thing that had never been brought up before.
- It’s nice to see these people make a comeback. Bumi, Piandao, even Jeong Jeong and Master Pakku are here for the finale.
- I am surprised that we didn’t get an interaction between Toph and Bumi, though. The man Aang wanted to teach him Earthbending, the girl who ended up doing it... But I guess there’s only so much time, and I don’t think there’s any scenes that could be deleted to make room for it.
- It seems like Aang is just searching for confirmation of his beliefs, rather than actually seeking wisdom.
- I like that we get to see Bumi taking full advantage of the eclipse to take back Omashu from the Fire Nation, instead of just being told about it.
- It’s nice to see so many past Avatars beyond just Roku and Kyoshi, Avatars that we never heard of before, but now we hear their stories. But all of these past Avatars echo the same sentiment that Aang should kill Ozai, even an Air Nomad Avatar.
- What can I say about this scene of Zuko and Iroh reuniting? Forgive me for echoing a post I made on my main blog, but this is a scene that’s both sweet and sad.
Sad, because Zuko’s abuse at the hands of Fire Lord Ozai left him anxiously expecting furious punishment for crimes much less than what he did to Iroh. He can’t even comprehend the idea that Iroh would forgive him. His expression while apologizing to Iroh clearly shows he’s expecting the worst.
Sweet, because Iroh still loves Zuko like his own son, and doesn’t even need to forgive him because he never felt anger at Zuko’s betrayal: Only sadness and a worry that Zuko had lost his way, truly lost his honor. And Iroh is so clearly happy to see that Zuko has found his destiny, and joined the fight against the Fire Nation.
I could go on and on about this scene... It’s my absolute favorite scene in the whole series and it brings me to tears every single time I see it.
Gosh... it’s gonna be so awkward going back to the jokes and little mundane thoughts after this, isn’t it?
- Okay, I have officially given up on the idea of finding out what the heck this island is.
- I like the smile on Katara’s face, when she’s asked to team up with Zuko and fight Azula.
- It’s nice to know that Iroh will get the opportunity to run that tea shop, even if Zuko won’t be there to work with him.
- Okay, okay, so the island was actually a lion turtle. Frankly, I’ve still got a lot of questions. Even some new ones.
- It’s nice to see that the Netlix subtitles aren’t ALLCAPS anymore.
PART 3: INTO THE INFERNO
- Gotta hand it to the music, it can make even a scene of Azula making a fuss over a non-pitted cherry rather unnerving.
- Azula’s... Azula-ness has gone straight up to eleven with her newfound role. Hasn’t it? What with all the banishments, even banishing the entire Dai Li.
- Sokka, Suki and Toph are the real dream team.
- And we get a great final blind joke!
- I like that we get to see everyone doing their part in this final battle. All the members of the Gaang, even the White Lotus, get their moments to shine.
- The hallucination of Ursa shows that Azula, on some level, has an idea of what’s wrong with her. You can tell that they were thinking of a redemption arc for Azula come Book 4, though I am glad that didn’t happen.
- It’s chilling to see Ozai razing the forests of the Earth Kingdom like it’s nothing. And then to realize that this is what Aang will have to face.
- At first I wasn’t sure what Sokka’s plan was, but now that I see it in action, it’s really creative.
- I like the idea of a final one-on-one Zuko vs Azula duel(...a). It’s been a rivalry since Book 2, and it’s nice to finally see it get settled, even if I can’t imagine it’ll end up that easy: Otherwise, what would Katara do?
- It’s so cool to see Aang showing his prowess in all bending techniques, using them all in this final showdown.
- The background music during Zuko and Azula’s Agni Kai really sells it. It makes it sound almost tragic, and it is: two siblings pitted against each other, no choice but to fight to determine the future of the world.
- Azula might be slipping, but she’s still Azula, all too willing to cheat in what’s supposed to be a one-on-one duel.
PART 4: AVATAR AANG
- Netflix isn’t showing the intro for the individual parts, but I’ve gotta say... There’s no way that Katara’s still saying Aang’s “got a lot to learn before he’s ready to save anyone.” Right?
- I like that we get to see one last use of Metalbending from Toph in the finale.
- Dang, I hope this isn’t really the end for Sokka’s sword, or his boomerang. Especially when the sword was so cool, and one could say meaningful.
- I honestly wasn’t sure the Avatar State would ever be a factor again. But if there was ever a time, this is it. (ADDENDUM: This is probably the best time to clarify that I find and add the images at the start after writing the rest of the post.)
- And it’s so epic to see Aang bending all four elements at once.
- I like that Iroh got to burn down the Fire Nation flag.
- Since Zuko’s down for the count, I guess this means a battle between Katara and Azula, the latter powered up by Sozin’s Comet.
- To be honest, I could barely make out what Azula just said. “kjsdbksrbfkjvf family position to look after, kdcbkfh”?
- Katara may not be stronger than Sozin’s Comet-powered Azula, but she’s much more clever than Azula is right now as she loses her marbles.
- This is just the perfect kind of defeat for Azula. There’s no grace to it, no dignity, just writhing around, screaming and spewing fire as Zuko and Katara look on with pity.
- There’s probably a great practical reason someone could find for Spiritbending being a thing, but here’s why I’m glad it exists: Aang gets a happy ending. He gets to take down the Fire Lord, and hold true to his beliefs. If it weren’t for Spiritbending, if Aang killed Ozai, then he would be conflicted to the end.
And I don’t want that. I want Aang to get an unambiguously, undoubtedly happy ending, where the world is saved and that’s all there is to it.
Plus, Spiritbending is quite the spectacle.
- I’m guessing Sokka’s space sword and boomerang really are done for. But hey, there’s always headcanon. Maybe Sokka searched the forest and eventually found them.
- Weird to think that Ty Lee’s gonna be a Kyoshi Warrior.
- Again, I can’t believe Zukaang’s not the most popular Zuko ship in the fandom. Not a ship I’ll go to bat for, but it’s got all the hallmarks of a fan-preferred couple.
- It’s so nice to see Zuko’s coronation, and the official end to the war. It’s a happy ending for the whole world, the start of an era of peace.
- “Love and peace,” huh...? Now that’s funny to hear in the finale to this show, considering the next show I’m covering, come 2021...
- I like that we get to see one last confrontation between Zuko and Ozai. Even if Zuko’s question of where Ursa is doesn’t go anywhere (in the show, I know they touch on that in the comics), it’s nice to see the newly-crowned Fire Lord Zuko having evolved past a need for Ozai’s attention, or a fear of Ozai’s wrath.
- It’s nice to see the whole Gaang having fun at Iroh’s tea shop, in the end. And I stand corrected, this is where we get the final blind joke.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I’m lucky in that most of my childhood cartoons hold up as an adult. I watched Kim Possible, Phineas and Ferb, Code Lyoko, Courage the Cowardly Dog...
Still, there’s something special about Avatar: The Last Airbender. It had a unique aesthetic and world that no other show was quite like. It had a story that was like nothing I’d ever seen as a kid.
And it doesn’t just hold up, it’s even better.
When I was a kid, it was as simple as rooting for the good guys to win, and for the Firebenders to lose, except for Zuko once he turned good.
Now, as an adult (but mostly as someone with a DVD player/Netflix account so I’m not just watching whatever reruns I can catch) I can appreciate the character development, the arcs, the entire story.
I can appreciate how Aang grew from a little boy who does indeed have a lot to learn before he’s ready to save anyone, into a hero who could save the world.
I can appreciate how Zuko was an abuse victim who did what all abused children wish they could do and left his abuser.
I can appreciate... Gosh, Iroh’s entire character and dynamic with Zuko.
Some people say that Avatar “starts off as a kids show, then turns serious”, but I’d disagree. Avatar is a show where our heroes change, where they learn lessons, where they come of age and become the kind of heroes who can end a war that’s been going on for over a century.
As relieved as I am to be (mostly) done with these posts for the rest of the year, I am still oh-so-glad that I’ve rewatched Avatar yet again, and I know that I will be whenever I rewatch it in the future.
Now, with all that said... Farewell! Until the Christmas special, at least...

Cold is the Night (Day Two: Counterpart)
Zutara Week 2020// Day One
@zutaraweek
Ao3
Bring me some hope
By wandering into my mind
Something to hold onto
Morning, noon day, or night
You are the light that is blinding me
You're the anchor that I tied to my brain
'Cause when it feels like I'm lost at sea
You're the song I sing again and again”
- The Anchor (Bastille)
____
Zuko didn’t know what to say.
She closed his hand around the smooth stone.
“Katara, I...I can’t take this.”
“Yes, you can.” she pushed it towards his chest,
“No, I won’t let you.”
“Zuko,” she squeezed his hand, and furrowed her brow. His throat closed. “You’re not letting me do anything.”
He opened his palm and looked at the necklace, her necklace, her mother’s necklace.
“But,”
Katara sighed, “Here,” she took it from him. A weight flew off his shoulders, but she just grabbed his bare wrist and slowly wrapped the blue silk around it.
“Zuko, you want to get married, right?” He tried to open his mouth and agree, but no sound came out, he just nodded. His eyes didn’t leave her calloused tan hands, “Well, then I’m giving this to you.” She finished. The stone, and it's all too familiar design, rested on the inside of his wrist, against his pulse.
She moved her hand to cradle his left cheek. They were a cool salve to his scar. Her fingers threaded into his hair. Looking into her eyes, he leaned into her touch. A gentle smile flitted across her lips.
They had only talked in the abstract about getting married, but last night… even the memory of the words they had shared filled his chest with warmth.
“I love you, Zuko.” she rose to her tip toes and kissed him. Immediately he wrapped his arms around her waist, like an anchor. She broke the kiss, but stayed close. He circled his thumbs across the fabric of her tunic, but she reached down and took his wrist.
“This,” Katara brushed her hand along the silk, “is a promise.”
He finally found his words, “It’s your mother’s Kat, I can’t take it away from you.”
She smiled, but the expression on her brow was insistent, “You're not taking it from me, I’m giving it to you.” She ran a thumb along the stone, “I trust you, Zuko, with this, and with my life, and our future together. I was never supposed to keep it forever. My grandmother gave it to my mother, my mother to me, and now I'm giving it to you.”
Her eyes shined, but there was no sadness in them.
“And… maybe one day,” she raised a brow, “We’ll give it to our daughter.”
Zuko balked.
“In many years, of course!” her eyes went wide. His sigh of relief rustled her baby hairs.
There was a knock at the door, they both jumped.
“Ambassador Katara, if you’re in there, the ship to Ba Sing Se is leaving in thirty minutes.”
Katara pouted. Zuko smiled at the expression.
“What will I do without you, while your off building hospitals in the Earth Kingdom?”
Once again she reached up, but this time her fingers ran all the way to behind his ear.
“That’s another thing its good for,” she kissed him again, this time slower, “I’ll always,” she planted another kiss on his jaw, “be close.” her third kiss was the tip of his nose.
He laughed, and pulled her against him. He buried his nose in her soft hair, and she couldn’t hold him tight enough.
“I’ll see you in ten months?” she whispered into his neck.
“In ten months.”
___
A year and eleven months later...
Katara had never seen a more beautiful morning. Though, she would enjoy it more if she had slept the night before.
For hours she laid in the dark until the sky turned gray outside her open balcony doors. Cool, damp wind blew through the sheer white curtains and caressed her face. Spring had stayed for longer than usual in the Fire Nation. The oppressive heat and humidity of summer had been delayed. Katara wondered if it was divine intervention, or dumb luck.
She pulled the duvet, pale blue, up to her cheek, and snuggled closer into the cool white sheets. Once, she was under the impression that everything in the Imperial Palace was red or black, but on her first night as a formal guest of the Fire Lord (a phrase which made her chuckle every time she heard it) she had been lead into a sunny room, with slate gray wood walls, light maple furniture, and a lovely four poster bed with pretty blue bedding. A pile of pillows topped it  in shades of lilac, periwinkle, and the softest green.
Pale, watery light filled the room and softened the edges of her sleepless night. It filtered through the stacks of papers piled on her desk.
For another moment she observed the dawn’s quiet beauty, then slowly sat up and stretched.
It wasn’t like she would be getting any rest anyway.
The waterbender wrapped a red silk robe around her bindings and tied it securely around her waist. Slowly, she crossed the room and stilled at her reflection in the mirror. A young woman stared back at her. Curves, recovered from years of hardship, enhanced hard muscle. Wild, untamed, chestnut curls crowned her head and fell to her waist. Blue eyes turned clear in the coming light of day.
She was no longer the little girl, a wisp of skin and bone, who cradled the head of the last airbender, six years ago in the snow. She was a new creature.
___
Katara found herself curled in the ancient roots of the willow tree, on the banks of the turtle duck pond. She had come to this place many times before, and it always cleared her mind, but the thoughts swirling around her countenance were a different beast this morning.
The sun was minutes away from crowning the gray hills in the distance, and the sky had turned the softest blue. The clouds above were tinged in pink and gold.
The turtle ducks had just begun to wake up, and were quaking quietly to themselves. Chirping birds and the wind in the fresh leaves became the backdrop of her silent thoughts.
Katara watched the mist rise of the mirror-like surface of the pond. She reached out, feeling the gentle pull of the water in her navel, and curled it to her whim.
“I didn’t expect to find you out here so early.”
Katara started at the breaking of her silence, but then she smiled.
“Goodmorning, Uncle.”
Iroh smiled gently then gestured to the grass next to her, “May I sit with you?”
“Of course,” the older man nodded, and settled in a lotus position beside her.
“I usually have my morning tea out here, I would be honored if you joined me.”
As Katara nodded, Iroh pulled a teapot out of the small basket at his side, and handed her a cup. With a gentle smile he poured the steaming liquid.
She took a sip and her chest grew warm.
“Mmm… what type of tea is this?”
“Gyokuro, very good for waking up,” he took his own sip, “though… it also does well for those who never went to sleep.” He gave her a pointed look. Sheepishly, Katara stared down at her tea, and then the pond.
“I couldn’t stop my mind from…” she waved a hand around her head, “spinning.”
“Often, the wills of the mind overcast the needs of the body.”
Katara sighed, and slouched a little, “Yeah.”
“Is there anything in particular you are worried about, Lady Katara?” Iroh’s expression was calm, and he topped off her tea cup. She sighed, then scoffed,
“Besides the obvious?”
“I prefer not to assume the apparent obvious, I’m too frequently incorrect in my assumptions.”
The sun had finally dawned over the mountains and the entire palace and gardens were lit up in brilliant gold. The red roof tops of Caldera City burned in the dawn. Katara pulled her knees closer to her chest and took a deep sip of tea. She knew Iroh would not pester her for a speedy response, so she took the time to collect her thoughts. The general just simply waited and drunk his tea, while he watched the surface of the pond sparkle like a jewel.
“It’s the wedding. Don’t get me wrong! I want to marry Zuko, I love him, and can’t imagine being without him, but there's so much… pressure.”
Iroh, just watched her, and waited for her to continue.
“I have to look perfect, and act perfect, and say all the right things. I have to bow to this person, and remember this person's name. There's so many customs and rules. What if I do something wrong? What if something crazy happens? Like assassins attack, or there’s a freak tornado?”
Katara’s voice had risen in volume and pitch as she went on, but now her words were quiet, and the hands gripping her tea cup trembled. “I know that there's people in this country who don’t like me. I hear them in the streets when I go shopping. They whisper behind my back at parties and announcements. ‘Southern Savage’… that’s a favorite… there was one woman I passed in a corridor that called me ‘Zuko’s Whore’”. Tears slipped down her cheeks. Iroh’s expression darkened.
“Does my nephew know of these impertinences?”
Katara sniffled and wiped her cheek with the sleeve of her robe, “No, he has so much to worry about, and he can’t fix it anyway.”
“And I feel so stupid!” the waterbender threw a hand in the air, threatening ripples disturbed the pond, “I’m not some soft maiden. Usually, I would defend myself. One time in Ba Sing Se, some girls made fun of Toph and I sent them down the river! I challenged a waterbending master without any formal training. I started a prison riot. I defeated Azula. Iv’e fought assassins, and soldiers!” Katara hid her face behind her knees, curtains of hair blocking her tears from view, “But, I just freeze. Every time. My brain screams at me to do something, but I can’t, I just stand there like an idiot. Eventually, I remember that fighting wouldn’t have helped anyway, or changed help how people saw me, they'd just think I was even more of a ‘savage’.” She spit the word out like poison, “I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. I should stand up for myself, but..” she trailed off.
“Those things aren't true, Katara.”
“I know,” she turned to Iroh, resting her temple on her knee, “but, it’s hard to handle it. I’ve never been stoic, I’ve never been able to just ‘brush things off’. Like Mai, she gets all kinds of stuff thrown at her because she’s with Ty Lee, but she’s always the perfect noblewoman.”
“Just because your strengths differ from those valued by Fire Nation nobility doesn’t mean they’re less valuable.” A melancholic look over took his features, “my wife was very similar to you. She was raised in the colonies, born out of wedlock on top of it, but she too was never able to brush things off.”
“What did she do?” Katara turned her whole body in interest.
“She worked hard, she served the people, and was kind to everyone. She did so much good for the Fire Nation, before she died, that slowly the people who didn’t like her were the minority.”
Katara nodded.
“And,” Iroh made a point to look her in the eye, “she confided in me, and we were able to get through it together. Tell my nephew, the next time something happens. Even if he can’t do anything about it, which would be a rare occurrence, he receives his own ridicule, as I’m sure you know. You two are stronger together. You and Zuko, both, have grown up having to fight for every scrap of respect” Iroh breathed in deeply, “and you must continue to do so. However, the arena has changed, Lady Katara. You have to rely on each other, and your natural strengths to navigate it.”
The general chuckled to himself, “and don’t worry about messing up at your wedding. Nothing can be worse then when my cousin spilled the entire puch bowl on his pride, then got so drunk he challenged her brother to and Agni Kai.”
Katara’s jaw dropped.
“Of course, the man was a non-bender, so the challenge was null and void. What I’m trying to say, is that the wedding doesn’t matter as much as what you do after. You have a strong heart and, most importantly, empathy. This country doesn’t need a noblewoman, it needs a warrior.”
The young waterbender was now looking back over the pond, her brow furrowed.
“Is there anything else on your mind, Lady Katara?”
She considered it.
“What is it going to be like...being Fire Lady?”
Iroh took another sip of his tea, “I’ve never been one, so I can’t say that I know for sure,” she smiled, “but the most important thing to remember is that you are the most powerful person in the Fire Nation. That fact comes with privileges, but it also comes with responsibilities. You will swear the same oaths as Zuko. You are the mother of the nation.”
Oddly enough, that was the easy part to her. She had always been a caregiver. The memory of a small village on a river came to mind, of a little boy with a fish, and a veiled rice hat. She frowned, softly,
“What do you mean I’m the most powerful person in the Fire Nation? I thought that was Zuko, he’s the Fire Lord.”
Iroh shook his head swiftly, “My father and grandfather spun many lies about our customs and beliefs. They changed thousands of years of history to feed their own egos and suit their agendas, and to have unquestionable power. The Fire Lord and Lady are equal in power and in status, or at least they were before the War.” He turned to Katara, whose eyes had gone wide, “it is my understanding that Zuko will honor those ancient traditions.”
He continued, “You and Zuko have always been equals, even before he found his way. You are two sides to the same coin, moon and sun.You have always been matched in skill and mind. Similarly, The position of Fire Lady is the counterpart to the Fire Lord.”
“Yin and Yang.” Katara whispered. She reached up to the new pendant at her throat (so like her old one in weight and shape) and traced the familiar pattern engraved in luminescent green stone. She thought of a battle, so long ago. Katara had been so angry then, but her and Zuko… they had been equally matched. How many other times had they met on the battlefield and fought till a stand still. Even now, as friends, as more than that… they had always been on level footing. Never before had she hidden in Zuko’s shadow. He always recognized her strengths, and how they complimented his own weaknesses. Katara smiled to herself. Why would that change now?
You rise with the moon, I rise with the sun.
Balanced.
She turned to Iroh, and bowed slightly, “Thank you, Un…” Katara paused to yawn wide, “...cle”
He smiled, and bowed back, “Tomorrow is your wedding day, not today, I believe you may have some time to rest your eyes.”
Katara nodded, yawning again, and stood. Before she left she wrapped Iroh in a tight hug. He responded in kind.
When Katara made it back to her room, she found her mind clear as she settled into bed. She was asleep before her head hit the pillow, her hand still resting on the engagement necklace around her neck.

Unexpected Company
Summary: Louis and Clementine are having a chill date at Clem's house when Clementine realizes that Lee has company too.
Word Count: 2582
Read on AO3:
Clementine and Louis lay curled up together on her bed, completely absorbed by the events occurring on the laptop in front of them. They’d been rewatching The Last Airbender series together for the past few weeks after they both realized it had been years since they’d seen it. A.J. had joined in for some of their watch parties, but he was at a sleepover at Tenn’s house tonight, so they were on their own. They’d reached the point where Zuko and Iroh were on the run. They both chuckled as Iroh debated the risks of making a tea out of a plant that might just be deadly poisonous.
“Man, Iroh’s the best,” Louis commented, his words sending a tickling warmth through Clem’s hair. “Wish I had a cool uncle giving me sage life advice and making me tea,”
“Don’t we all,” Clementine murmured. Her hand shifted around Louis’ waist, pulling him closer. “Y’know, in some ways Lee reminds me of Iroh,”
“Really?” Louis chuckled. “I mean, the resemblance is striking, but…”
“Not like that!” Clementine smacked her boyfriend’s chest playfully. “It’s more like… they’re both mentors. Always encouraging, but willing to call you on your crap. Cheering for you, but hands off enough to let you make your own mistakes and learn from them. Stuff like that,”
“Makes sense,” Louis nodded thoughtfully, his chin brushing through Clem’s curls. “Well, I’m glad you have someone like that in your life, even if you found each other later than you would have liked,” One of his thumbs brushed across the scar on Clementine’s left arm. She’d told him what it was from. To think that a foster family could be negligent enough to let Clementine, only 11 at the time, be bitten by their dog then blame it on her… he couldn’t believe the things she’d been through sometimes. She really was amazing.
“Things are good now,” Clementine responded, fiddling with a button on Louis’ shirt. “That’s all that matters. Now I’ve got Lee, and A.J… and you,” She smiled up at her boyfriend who was grinning like a fool. A fool in love. Their lips met for a quick kiss, followed by another. Clementine pulled way reluctantly. “We’re going to have to go back like five minutes in this episode because I have no idea what’s been happening,”
“We can finish it later,” Louis’ foot tapped the laptop closed. He leaned forward to capture Clementine’s lips in another kiss, to which she eagerly complied.
Suddenly a loud clanging from the kitchen had both of them jumping in surprise.
“Are Kenny and Lee having a late night bakeathon?” Louis quirked an eyebrow. Lee had mentioned that Kenny was going to come over that night when Louis had dropped by in the late afternoon. The pair had simply nodded at the news, heading to Clementine’s room with a stash of snacks to keep them going through the Avatar marathon. They hadn’t exited the room since.
“Kenny’s not really the baking type,” Clementine mused over other explanations. “Maybe they decided to do breakfast for dinner. Lee’s always down for breakfast food,”
“Who isn’t?” Louis’ stomach rumbled loudly. “Speaking of which…” Reaching off the side of the bed, he rooted through the snack bags, looking for Skittles. He lifted them up with a triumphant cheer.
“How exactly are Skittles a breakfast food?” Clementine asked, her arms crossed.
“Skittles transcend categories,” Louis retorted, popping a few into his mouth and offering her the bag. “Any time is Skittles time,”
Clementine was going to come up with a sassy reply of her own, when she was surprised to hear a female voice coming from the kitchen. Her eyes widened and she shushed Louis quickly. “Did you hear that?”
“Hear what?”
“It sounded like a woman. There it is again!” The pair listened intently. Sure enough, dulcet tones came from the kitchen, accompanied by deeper voices.
“Yeah, that’s definitely not Kenny,” Louis stated decidedly. “Not that I’ve met the man, but I’d be seriously floored if I turned out to be wrong,”
“It’s not Kenny,” Clementine jumped off her bed, leaning an ear against her bedroom door. She could make out the conversation a little bit clearer from here.
“Lee, seriously, it’s fine!” the female voice insisted. “You don’t need to cook for me at this hour,”
“Now don’t be silly. I’m not going to let a lady starve under my own roof,”
“Oh my god, my stomach grumbled one time. It’s not that big a deal!”
“Might as well listen to him, Carley,” Kenny’s voice travelled from the kitchen. “Lee doesn’t change his mind once it’s been made up. Besides, the man cooks a mean breakfast burrito,”
Clementine’s eyes narrowed in suspicion. Who exactly was this Carley woman and why had Lee not mentioned that she was coming as well as Kenny? The way they were talking made it seem like she wasn’t a casual acquaintance either.
“Why are we spying?” Louis whispered by Clementine’s ear, causing her to jump in surprise.
“We’re spying because there has to be a reason Lee has never mentioned this woman to me before. He never brings over people A.J. and I don’t know,”
Now it was Louis’ turn to raise an eyebrow. “Do I detect a hint of jealousy in your voice?”
“What? No! What would I even have to be jealous of?” Clementine huffed.
“Well, chances are if Lee’s bringing over a lady friend that there’s something more going on between them… maybe something romantic. Would that be a bad thing?”
“It’s not anything,” Clementine declared, pulling away from the door. “For all we know, they added a third teammate to their trivia night group,”
“Yeah, that’s totally the most logical option,”
Clementine narrowed her eyes at her boyfriend. She hated when he was smug. It usually meant he was right. “Y’know what? It’s getting late. We should probably call it a night,”
“Seriously? But Avatar!”
“Avatar can wait!”
Louis was loath to leave, but he could see that this turn of events had thrown Clem for a loop. Maybe it was best to give her some space and time to cool off.
“Well, alright then,” Louis reached for the doorknob, only to have Clementine tear his hand away.
“Are you crazy?” she hissed. “You can’t go out that way! The kitchen is right by the front door!” Her eyes turned to the window. “C’mon, we’ll sneak you out like I snuck you in the first time,”
“Would meeting Lee’s lady friend really be that bad?” Louis questioned.
Clementine shot him a cold glare.
“Alright, alright, you’re the boss,” Louis helped Clementine clear the knickknacks off her dresser before hopping on top and edging his way backwards out the open window. His hands gripped Clementine’s arms for balance. Even though they were on the first floor her window was still a good distance off the ground. He’d need a hand down.
-----
“Well, I hate to cut the party short, but I’d better head home before Kat starts to worry,” Kenny said as he stood beside the front door.
“You sure?” Lee asked, spatula still in hand. “The eggs are just about done,”
“Yeah, I’m sure. You two have fun without me,” Kenny raised a hand in farewell to Carley who was still sitting at the kitchen table. She returned the gesture with a smile. Kenny turned back to Lee. “See you next week for trivia night?”
“Wouldn’t miss it,” Lee chuckled.
With that, Kenny stepped out the front door. The night air was chilly, and he quickly wrapped his coat more tightly around him. Luckily his car wasn’t far off, just a little way down the street. Walking toward it, Kenny glanced at the house fondly.
That’s when he noticed something. Half of a body dangling and kicking outside one of the first-floor windows. Clementine’s room.
“What the hell?” Kenny growled, quickly striding forward. What’s an ass doing outside Clem’s window?" Reaching his target, Kenny grabbed onto the pants of the culprit.
He was met with a frightened squeal. “Clem, something out there! Pull me back, now, now now!” Before Kenny could get a better hold on the jeans, the legs disappeared back inside the house and he heard a body thud to the floor.
Clementine quickly popped up by the window, giving Kenny an awkward wave. “Hey, Kenny. You heading out?”
“Clem, what the hell is going on?” Kenny growled. “It looked to me like some kind of hooligan was trying to break into your room!”
A young black man with dreadlocks popped up behind Clementine, looking at him with a mixture of fear and embarrassment.
“Well, umm…” Clementine awkwardly cleared her throat. “This is my boyfriend, Louis. Kenny, Louis. Louis, Kenny,”
Louis gave him an awkward wave. “It’s very nice to meet you, sir. Love the mustache,”
“You don’t get to like the mustache!” Kenny snapped, causing Louis to flinch. “Clementine, what are you doing sneaking this boy out of your room at this hour. Don’t you know you have a front door that would work perfectly-”
Before he could finish, Clementine’s bedroom door opened.
“Everything all right in here, Clem?” Lee asked, a concerned expression on his face. “I thought I heard you scream,”
“Actually, that was me,” Louis admitted, scratching the back of his head sheepishly. “Mr. Kenny surprised me is all,”
“Kenny?” Lee walked forward, seeing his friend standing outside the window. “What are you still doing here?”
“I thought I was stopping a break-in. This fool had his ass sticking out Clem’s window, looking for the whole world like some sort of burglar. I was just in the process of asking them why they hadn’t used the front door instead when you came in,”
“Well now, that is a good question,” Lee said, crossing his arms and turning to his daughter. “Mind telling us, Clementine?”
Clementine looked away, her own arms crossed. “We didn’t want to disturb you. You or your company,”
Lee’s expression changed to one of understanding. “You know what? I think it’s time we all called it a night. Louis?”
“Yes, sir,” Louis answered. He placed a quick kiss to his girfriend’s cheek before heading over to grab the leftover snacks. “Night, Clem,”
Lee turned to the open window. “I’ve got things handled here, Kenny. Thanks for keeping an eye out,”
Kenny nodded. “Anytime. Night,” With that he was off. Lee closed the window then turned to Clementine. “I’m going to say goodnight to Carley and see her out. After that, do you want to meet up in the kitchen for some midnight breakfast burritos?”
Clementine silently nodded.
“Alright then,” Lee exited the room, preparing an excuse in his head for Carley on why they had to cut the night short.
-----
About ten minutes later, Lee returned to the kitchen. Clementine was already sitting there, an untouched plate of eggs and bacon before her. Lee pulled out the chair across from her, sitting down as well. They remained in silence for a minute or two before Lee decided to start things off. “I’m sorry I didn’t mention to you that Carley was coming over. That was inconsiderate on my part,”
“It’s not like you owe me an explanation,” Clementine mumbled. “I’m not a teenager anymore. Soon enough I’ll have found my own place and I won’t be underfoot anymore,”
“Now sweet pea, you know you’re not in the way. I know we agreed you’d stay at home through college to save money, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t enjoyed having you around for longer. Hell, if you wanted to keep living here you could invite Louis to move into the house instead,” Lee waggled his eyebrows teasingly.
That got a snort out of Clementine. “Yeah right,” Her eyes grew thoughtful before she spoke again. “It must have been hard being a single dad to me and A.J. all those years. I don’t know if you met anybody you wanted to bring home during that time, but I’d like to think I’d have been open to meeting somebody if you wanted to introduce us,”
Lee shook his head. “There wasn’t anybody during those years. You know that around the time I met you I was at the tail end of my divorce. It took a long time to heal from the pain. You and A.J. were key to that healing. During those years with the two of you growing up, I didn’t need anything more than the three of us,”
“And now?”
Lee sighed. “I didn’t go out looking for romance if that’s what you mean. Meeting Carley was happenstance, fate maybe. She was doing an article on the university and asked to interview me as a representative of the college. From there we hit things off and, well… there have been a few dates. I didn’t want to bring up anything to you and A.J. till I knew things were serious. Now I see that tonight should have been the night I introduced the two of you rather then sneaking Carley in under your nose,” Lee took hold of Clementine’s hand, clasping it gently. “Things may be changing with Carley being a part of our lives, but that’s a good thing. And it won’t change the love I have for you and A.J. a single bit,”
“I know,” Clem’s voice was soft. She squeezed Lee’s hand tighter. “I know it’s petty to be upset about something like this. I guess it’s just that things are finally… perfect. A.J.’s doing well, it’s my last year of college, work at the diner has been great and things with Louis…” Clementine trailed off, a smile playing at her lips before it grew serious once more. “I guess I’m just afraid of change. Growing up, every time change came my way it meant I was losing everything all over again. Maybe I should know better, but it’s still hard to picture change meaning anything else,”
“That makes complete sense, Clem,” Lee rubbed a thumb along his daughter’s hand soothingly. “Change is always scary, especially for someone who’s seen more than her fair share. I promise you, I’m going to take things slow with Carley. You and A.J. will always be my first priority,”
“You deserve to be happy too though,” Clementine lay her other hand on top of her father’s. “I’ll try my best to be calm about this whole thing and not let myself freak out. I want to be able to celebrate this change with you. Just… give me some time?”
“All the time you need, sweet pea,” Lee’s eyes were warm as he smiled at Clementine. She had come so far since he’d met her all those years ago. Sometimes he forgot the pain and fear that she still carried deep within her. But hope and joy were stronger now.
A rumbling stomach drew their attention away from the moment.
“Was that you or me?” Lee chuckled.
“You, but I’m starving too,” Clementine let go of Lee’s hand to pick up her fork. “Let’s dig in,”
“I couldn’t agree more,”
They chatted for some time after that into the wee hours of the morning. Sometimes the best moments were those that come upon you unexpectedly. That was true for the father-daughter pair as they joked and laughed, eating breakfast burritos until they couldn’t hold anymore. Whatever life threw their way, they knew they could face it head on because they had each other.

Chapter 12: Going Out
Zuko and Iroh are having a conversation over Miyuki's wellbeing. Either one not wanting to put pressure on her opening up about what's happened. It's been two weeks since she's been hold up in their tea shop, she spends most of her time in zuko's room occasionally coming out and helping in the kitchens or with customers. Sokka's moved around more often in the past three days, talking and serving some of the patrons that regularly came in.
"I've got the rest of her clothes and paid for her room at the inn, I'm not sure if she'd like to go back but just in case." Zuko shrugged at his uncle with a bag of clothes in his hand. Neither of them we're going to force her out but if she felt like going back they wouldn't stop her either.
Iroh agreed with his nephew, "That's fine, I won't pressure the child to make any decisions right now. We must wait until she is ready and comfortable with what she decides next. The poor girl has been through something quite traumatic and I wish I could take that experience away." Iroh was solemn discussing Miyuki's well-being. "Have you found the rest of the groups trafficking ring?"
"Yes, and there's at least five different rings, they all work together." His nephew informed.
"No doubt all higher-ups. We'll have to do this meticulously or send a message but sending a message might just put them into hiding, it wouldn't stop us but it would take much longer. I'll talk to some people for help and see if we can get them all in one go. We'll talk more about this after I ask around, go and tend to Miyuki." Iroh left Zuko to go up the stairs as he went to open up the shop.
Sokka felt much better staying with Zuko and his uncle. He's been helping in the kitchen, with customers or getting deliveries with Zuko. It kept his mind occupied. At least once everyday he relives what happened to him in that alley, he can't forget their touches, smells, voices, his fear, his weakness and shame. The daily routine with the other two men has helped his mindset a lot, he likes that Iroh taught him how to tend to his mini garden and Zuko teaching him meditations, still his least favorite thing to do but having Zuko bothering him everyday on repeat for it helps. They don't have him stay stuck in his head or hiding in zuko's room often but when his bad days happen they also leave him in peace. Sokka loves the fact that the two can read him so well. He hasn't felt comfortable going outside just yet so he's thankful they haven't pressured him about it. He knows he's lost his job already but he doesn't care at this point. His thoughts are interrupted when he hears footsteps and a knock followed by Zuko slowly cracking the door open.
"Can I come in?" He hears Zuko's rough voice and answers with a grunt that Zuko interprets as a go ahead.
"Hey, I've brought the rest of your clothes. Also paid for your room at the inn if you ever decide to go back, not that you have to of course." Zuko said nervously, not sure if he overstepped bounds or seeming like he's forced her to make a decision.
"Thanks for that, I appreciate it really." And he was really, they didn't have to but they did and he's completely changed his mind about them, they we're good people if maybe misguided at times. "Is uncle opening up now? I'll get dressed and help." He took the bag from Zuko's hand and started sorting through the few clothes he had. He already had some clothes in a small chest of drawers near the corner of the room next to Zuko's own. Zuko left him to change privately no doubt already going to help his uncle. After getting dressed and a quick wash to his face did he made the trek downstairs ready to put on a smile and greet everyone.
Making it to the kitchen, he went straight to Iroh to ask about his duties. "Old man, what can I do today?"
Iroh turned from his nephew to the young miss to explain their tasks for the morning. "I'll have you take orders from the customers as Zuko serves them and you'll be having separate breaks today. Oh and Miyuki you've officially got a uniform, it's not here yet but the order I've made should come in soon." He expressed happily.
Sokka couldn't believe it, he felt like crying then and there. Feeling such care and warmth from people other than his family and friends was unbelievable. It made him miss his own little family.
"Thank you, I can't wait til it comes in but I better not look as dorky in it as Lee does." He joked, from the grin he got back he was sure Iroh was glad that he managed that joke. He's noticed himself, the sad looks he's gotten from the two ever since his attack. He shook off the sadness before it could take over and grabbed a notepad and pencil walking to the nearest table to start his orders.
Things were getting busy as time went by and Sokka loved it, the noise and smells of the shop was a great distraction. He loved talking to the people coming in, his favorites were the old ladies and young women gossiping, he'd sometimes join them at the table to hear all the juicy details, he gets scolded often by Zuko but Iroh would just laugh it off and let him have his fun. The customers themselves loved it. Sokka would talk to the older men about fishing techniques, he'd show tricks to the young kids that parents liked and approved of and he'd get the latest news from teen girls. It was his favorite pastime to rub in Zuko's face how much the customers loved him more. The activity throughout the day was good for him, some days he couldn't bare it but the times when he could enjoy the day was always welcomed.
When his lunch break came around he took advantage of Zuko going on a supply run as he himself went upstairs to get his journal. He spent the time on theories and more research. He wished he had his other journals, he liked keeping things organized, each having its own subject and color coded notes but he'll just have to make do and organize later. He jotted everything down, about his incident, his new daily routines and how his mindset had changed about the two fire benders. He kept his journal hidden in his pouch and knew Zuko respected his privacy to never look through it. Sokka spent most of his time in Zuko's room and wrote how they spent a lot of time together, how they opened up more to each other when they both felt they could.
Taking advantage of his alone time also had him write his letters to the gaang and Suki, he just hasn't been able to send them out yet still afraid of going out and also risking the chance of Zuko noticing them so he just left them in his pouch to send later. He doesn't mention what's happened to him to either party, just briefly informs them about his days and mentioning how he's made a friend, who he gets along with really well as well as their uncle. He's not fibbing perse, he'll come clean about everything when he feels the time is right. He finished up his entry, wiping the crumbs from his lunch off the journal placing it back in his pouch underneath a pile of clothes.
Sokka went back downstairs noticing less customers coming in, usually they have people in and out after lunch.
He goes up to Iroh to question him.
"Is it a slow day Iroh?" He asked curiously.
"No, everyone's getting ready to watch the play that's in town, it's their last day in town." The elder explains, "we'll be closing shop early so you can just start cleaning up and have a nice half day off." Iroh suggested as he cleaned up the kitchens.
"Okay, I'll clean the front then head for a bath afterwards." After he finished wiping everything down, sweeping and moping did he go back upstairs to the washroom.
______________________________________
Zuko came back with deliveries in his hands noticing just his uncle eating at a table. He assumed Miyuki was upstairs then.
"You already made dinner?" He asked his uncle as he started putting items away since it was still bit early.
"Yes, I thought it would take longer since it's a dish I've never made before. You can have some and let Miyuki know if she'd like any after she gets out the washroom." He said.
Zuko took the offer to eat first and let Miyuki know later. After they ate he agreed to play pai sho with his uncle. It'd been awhile playing since Miyuki hadn't come down yet, he figured he'd check on her after another loss to his uncle. He got upstairs walking towards the washroom, knocking at the door waiting for a response. Nothing came so he listened quietly until he heard sobbing. He quickly opened the door to hot moisture and steam blurring his vision. Once his vision adjusted did he see Miyuki curled in on herself with bright red and pink splotches on her skin. Getting closer he saw scratch marks that bled on her arms and legs, she was unaware of him as he crouched to her, body shaking with her head on her knees. He stopped the water and grabbed a towel to wrap around her hot skin. Unfortunately this wasn't the first incident, when he first discovered her like this and asked why, she simply told him it was punishment for being so weak. He understood self punishment but it still hurt to witness and he did his best to prevent it but he also didn't want to make her feel trapped or controlled or as if she should be treated like broken glass, needing to watch her every move. So he did what he could at times like this while never trying to shame her when he helped her at her most vulnerable. They walked together to his room while he set her down with the towel covering her appropriately as he got bandages and a salve for her wounds. After getting the needed supplies he came back to her already dressed andsitting on the floor. He crouched in front of her as he quietly and gently as possible wrapped her arms and legs. Once finished, he walked behind her to comb her hair, talking to her softly.
"It's time you go out." He felt Miyuki go stock still at his words, "not alone, we'll go with you anywhere and everywhere you want us to. I want you to feel back in control of yourself, you're letting them win by controlling your daily life. They can't get to you anymore. I'm keeping them prisoner somewhere until I can get all the people involved and taking them all down, it's just gonna take some time." He informed her, he truly didn't want her living in fear and maybe by giving this information she'll feel safer and maybe a bit comforted at this.
Sokka turned to Zuko slowly, knowing he'd absolutely hate giving those men more power over him.
"Can you take me to where those men are?" He asked, voice shaky.
"No." He knew what Miyuki wanted but didn't like the idea of her dirtying her hands with those filth or seeing the side of him where he let out his anger on those men. He left them beaten and broken, their wounds getting infected while only visiting to give them scraps of bread and splashing water on them to get all the needed information from everyone they worked for and every single property they owned. He was going to let them die even with or without the information, he'd find another way. He didn't want her to see that disgusting, monstrous side of him or have her getting consumed by her own revenge like himself. It was a horrible, all-consuming hollow path to go down.
Sokka understood Zuko's reluctance to tell him, hell he didn't think he was really ready to face those monsters, doesn't even know why he bothered asking. He never wanted to see them again just wanted it to all go away and be in denial forever.
"Thank you for taking care of them." Sokka didn't know quite exactly how Zuko took care of them and couldn't care less, it meant he could hide in his own bubble. He trusted Zuko keeping him safe, he tried not to leave him alone to his own devices that he greatly appreciated from the other teen boy. Sokka's pretty sure he would've lot his shit more if it wasn't for Zuko and his uncle watching out for him. Maybe it was time to get out, not be so afraid and controlled by someone not here anymore, as long as he wasn't alone though. Zuko hasn't left him, he's been there through his nightmares, sleepless nights, when he's been a zombie or hurting himself and Zuko never shames him for it just always stops his borderline mania from hitting a boiling point and whispers comforting words with a tight hold.
"Okay, I'll try." He agreed.
Zuko gave a small smile, glad that he could encourage this next step with her. "Let's watch that play we've been meaning to."
______________________________________
The three came out of the play in good spirits. Sokka came out feeling a lot better, happy that he could enjoy a play, food and a crowded place. He looked to Zuko who was listening to his uncle talk about the play, the jerk looked so uninterested but he knew Zuko was listening intently even if it didn't look like it, guess that's why a lot of people misjudge him. Sokka was enjoying the night air in what felt like forever, he liked having this control back. When they get back to Zuko's room, he'd like to discuss more training, he was ready to face the world again and become stronger, braver.
When the two teens were back in the room Sokka watched as Zuko got ready for his mediation and followed suit with what became their nightly routine. When the two finally got done and ready for bed did Sokka bring up his idea.
He looked over to Zuko and asked, "I'd like to get back to training and start practicing along with uncle also." He suggested over to Zuko who looked back to him silently, seeming to contemplate his suggestion.
"We could do that, uncle and I can even attack you at the same time to help with multiple people surrounding you." Zuko was already thinking up strategies for the next training session, there were so many moves, combos, holds and reverse holds you could do and that was without any bending which Miyuki will have to learn later as a non-bender herself. "Uncle will also have a lot more teachings to offer, it'd be good to have his input when we fight."
"Haha, I'm excited for the plans you're firing up there in that head of yours." Sokka expressed as he poked Zuko's forehead.
He had to admit he liked when Zuko scrunched his eyebrows when he concentrated. The fire bender was handsome when he really gave the guy a good look over, Sokka could admit that... not really outwardly to anyone else but arrgh actually maybe this is something he could discuss with Suki, with his weird forming feelings when it came to being around Zuko. Sleeping next to Zuko was something else entirely, they ended up on top of each other, far away and not even near touching or one of them holding the other, Sokka's even had a few awkward times with Zuko's ehem  manhood pressed to his ass and sometimes he couldn't even lie to himself how nice that actually felt. He thought he was crazy for finding it arousing and even comforting at times especially with what happened to him just two weeks ago. Was that normal? Was that okay? Sometimes he hated himself for feeling aroused, like some kind of disgusting shameful pervert. Why would that be okay, right? He tired of hating himself, tired of the phantom touches he gets thinking of those scumbags. He was sick of pulling on his hair painfully, scratching at himself and just overall causing himself pain remembering back to that night, it's like hurting himself kept him distracted from trying relive or prevent any flashbacks from then, he knew he needed healthier outlets. Now he was headed into bad thoughts central, which screw that, he needed comfort. Asap. If whatever he felt with Zuko was comforting enough, he would take that over being disgusted with himself and his stupid painful memories.
"Hey, I need cuddles." He demanded as he turned onto his side. He watched as Zuko closed whatever book he was reading and putting it off to the side. Sokka couldn't help the smile that spread across his face when Zuko faced him and opened up his arms. He wasted no time snuggling into the fire benders arms, he welcomed Zuko's scent and cozy yet comforting strong hold. He sighed in relief being molded into the other's body, he could feel the bit of scruff Zuko had growing on his chin, heated skin that was warmer than his own and he craved it all. It was such an unexplainable feeling he got, like his insides wanted to burst or express something but he couldn't with words or actions but it was there wanting release but also not knowing where to go, he hated not knowing how to pinpoint it but also loved the feeling strangely enough.
Anyways, there's no way his manly pride would admit that he liked being the little spoon. But whatever, his thoughts were only for him so he was going to enjoy the safety he felt in the other teens arms. He was also going to enjoy the blush he got from Zuko everytime he squeezed and rubbed his body against his own, it was purely fun entertainment. Maybe Sokka could even talk Zuko into being more intimate with each other, he's been curious about what kind of exploring they could do to one another. He'd taken care of himself in the washroom whenever he became aroused but his womanhood would still be achy and pulsing, wanting something to fill his insides, he explored with his fingers getting use to something inside but never feeling enough to grip onto or ever quite reaching what his body ached for. Sokka so planned to talk about this and hopefully it's accepted well but for now he'll wait and enjoy the comforting embrace while listening to Zuko's breathing as it lulled him to sleep.

The First One - Bonus scenes in traditional written word
This is a smau and a zukoXreader, although i haven't decided how this ends yet.
Y/n has recently transferred to Ba Sing Se from Omashu university and meets the gaang through a schoolproject they do with sokka and suki.
Bonus 2: Nerves
Ooooookay. It wasn't all this exciting. You'd been to parties before. You'd met new people before. Why did choosing a pair of jeans feel like you were deciding your fate? You usually only noticed people's jeans when they didn't fit, were neon colours or torn to shreds.
Your jeans all fit you, they were all in the neutral colour scheme and those that were distressed were still more fabric than hole.
So, by your own logic you could choose any pair and be fine. Yet still five pairs were laying on your bed. 2 grey, 2 black, one midnight blue. You didn't seem to be able to pick one.
The pile of t-shirts and jumpers on the ground hadn't gotten any of your attention but promised to be a similar drama...
You sighed in annoyance and texted both, Jin and Fai. The latter had a lot of encouragement and suggestions while the former mostly mocked you. He did however offer some really good advise: treat it like a gig with the band. In a pub. Wear those clothes.
"And stop being such a nervous wreck! It doesn't suit you. You're great. You're fun. They'll like you."
He didn't let you thank him, though. "Next time you're here, you're buying at least two rounds. I'm not your fucking therapist."
Classic Jin. But his idea worked. To a gig you'd wear the ripped black jeans, white t-shirt and the vintage leather jacket.
Those where the clothes you wore when you left your appartment. Those were the clothes you wore when Suki texted that she was held up at Aang's place. She would be late. Sokka was gonna join later anyways. Ty Lee wasn't coming at all.
Yeah, meeting new people who were presumably forced to be nice to you!! On your own. Without the safety blanket that were Suki and Sokka. Great...
You stood in front of the Jasmin Dragon, studying the green and gold of the big logo on the window and the small one on the door.
You could just wait here for Suki. No, you weren't a child and Suki wasn't your mum. Besides, she would show up with Aang -why did that name seem so familiar? - and you already told her that you would be about 15 minutes earlier than her. Waiting was no option.
You shifted your weight from your left leg to the right and texted the group chat:" So, I'm here."
Katara answered, telling you to come inside to the counter. The scent of oriental spices and caramel syrup filled the air in the shop. The perfect mix of old-timey, traditional tea house and modern way too sweet coffeshop combined into one smell. The essence of the Jasmin Dragon.
You had discovered it during your first week in Ba Sing Se and instantly fell in love with it. Was it that smell? Maybe. Was it the excellent sencha-ginger-tea? Partially. Was it the supercharging, black as your soul giant mugs of coffee? Partially. Was it the delicious muffins in every flavour imagineable? Yes. Was it the breakfast items that all looked mouthwatering? Absolutely.
But mainly it was the general atmosphere here. The furniture was a collection of armchairs, benches, sofas  and tables that all looked like they came from a 50's or 60's living room. All colours of the Rainbow, nothing actually fit together. It was so cosy and inviting.
And then there was the old man who usually was behind the black marble counter. You'd found that he would start around 11 am, as he was never there when you got your coffee before early lectures and classes. But he would take orders, prepare drinks, clean tables and give his thoughts on students' problems when you popped in for a midmorning pick-me-up.
And also now, close to closing time, the rotonde older man with the long grey hair stood behind the counter checking on a couple of teapots that gently bubbled behind him. While doing so, he talked to a short black-haired girl that giggled a lot.  She held on to an annoyed looking tall guy, that you thought might work here, and stood next to a girl that warmly smiled at you and waved you over.
"Y/n?"
"Yes, that would be me. You're Katara?" She nodded.
"And that's Toph and Zuko", she answered while indicating the girl and the guy. Suki had warned you about both of them. Toph was blind and often subjected to people wanting to help her, which she hated. "Don't offer her help. She'll let you know  when she needs you", Suki had said.
The girl extended a hand into your general direction. "Pleasure meeting you."
"All mine", you answered taking her hand. Zuko also shook your hand, mumbleing "Hi."
He had a rather large scar on the left side of his face. His hair covered it some. According to Suki you shouldn't stare and shouldn't mention it. She had known Zuko for years and still didn't know how he got it. You quickly averted your eyes.
"Okay, so I'm sure Suki already told you but she only just left Aang's. His roommate is a bit mad because he can't go to the party and delayed them."
You were about to answer when the man behind the counter cleared his throat. "Sencha-ginger", he handed you cup. Surprised but greateful you took it and looked for your wallet.
"Oh, no need. You've been a valued customer. And i finally learned your name. You know, you're one of the most quiet People ever to come into the shop." He gave you another smile.
"Not really quiet", you answer laughing. " But i usually come in alone and i don't like talking to myself in public. People stare." The man crinkled his forehead but Toph punched your shoulder and laughed. "Sokka said you were funny!"
"Well, why do you always come in on your own?", counterman inquired, his forehead smoother.
"Uhm...", should you tell the sad truth?
"You don't have to answer that", Zuko intervened. "Since he opened the dragon he's become quite enamored with gossip, haven't you uncle? No need to satisfy his curiosity."
"My nephew thinks me impolite. But I reckon there is a reason for your solitude. If it is your choice to enjoy our tea alone you can tell me that and no harm is done. But if unfortunate circumstances force you to drink your tea by yourself i would like to give you the oppertunity to speak about it. Let go of dark thoughts."
Wow. Some teamaker he was. And Zuko's uncle? Interesting.
"Thank you...Mr..."
"Iroh. Just Iroh will be fine."
"Well then, thank you Iroh. It's not too much of a story, though. I moved to Ba Sing Se six weeks ago and haven't yet found a group of people who'd put up with me for extended periods of time", you chuckled, hoping you didn't seem too desparate.
Katara seemed like she wanted to say something really nice but Iroh spoke quicker:" Oh, i don't think that's true. You don't give me the impression that anybody would have to put up with you. But if you want company while drinking your beverage i can always chat.
We could talk about your love for green tea and ginger. You know we also have black tea varieties that feature ginger and i think you might enjoy the herbal infusions.
The fruitier teas go great with the muffins! And if you're into croissants and pudding pretzels you should try the vanilla chai latte.
But if you don't want to talk about tea we could also gossip and play pai sho. You know how to play pai show, right?"
You absolutely didn't.
"I'm familiar with the most basic of basic rules." Wrong answer. The sweet little man grabbed a pai sho board out of nowhere and started explaining the game. Zuko offered an apologetic gesture, while Katara and Toph intently listened. You sipped your tea, nodded your head and enjoyed just being part of something. It had been a minute. But you would never play pai show of your own volition. The game was complicated and boring at the same time.
"Maybe you would like to learn about the ancient art of teamaking?", Iroh continued his suggestions of things to talk about when at the dragon.
Was there an art to it? Hot water and a teabag, no? You tried a vague expression and he kept talking.
"I always wanted to found a club or class, you know. Likeminded tea enthusiasts who want to deepen their knowledge and appreciation. Would you be interested?"
No, you weren't. But he was so endearing. So caring. So genuinely into this idea.
"I... have yet to find out how much time and effort my classes will demand. I wouldn't wanna make promises i can't keep."
That was fair, right? And not even an actual lie.
"We're here!!!!!"
Suki burst through the door, followed by a gangly guy with a shaved head. Aang!! That's why the name sounded familiar! He was Instagram verified. Half the campus followed him for his inspirational quotes and vegan recipes.
Suki hugged you hello, introduced you to the insta-famous and then Katara ushered you out and to the metrostation.
You waved at Iroh as you left. He had only talked about things that hardly interested you but he'd managed to make you feel like a member of the group that was now discussing pai sho rules, teamaking and being on time.
