While playing LiS2 again, I just realized that the picture of Daniel and Karen at Away, during the PW ending, is a POLAROID and this detail is actually driving me crazy
We know from the ones in David's trailer that Max and Chloe resided at Away with him for a time. And on top of that, all the other photos we see in this ending sequence are just regular ones, only the picture of Daniel and Karen is a polaroid. This is clearly not a coincidence, it's a deliberate artistic choice so does that actually imply that in this ending… Max, Chloe and Daniel have met each other ? And given that Daniel's power is no secret at all at Away, that would mean that Max knows about it too.
Can you just imagine the potential that would have in comics ? Seeing Max and Daniel realize that they're not alone, that there are other people like them in the world (something that the ongoing comics haven't adressed with Tristan from what I read) ; or her helping Daniel to realize that what happened at Seattle wasn't his fault (smth that haunts him so much at the border that he'd rather be separated from Sean than hurt anyone else) so he can heal and move on, just like Chloe and her did after Arcadia Bay.

saw the parting ways ending for lis2 (uggh) and I get why literally everybody rightfully hates it, but I think there's also something kind of--accidentally? brilliant?--about the message you get. Like, it's infuriating, the way trying to "serve as a good example" for Daniel leads you to be separated for a long time, if not forever (although I don't think even Parting Ways is fucked up enough that Daniel won't sneak down to see Sean eventually, if Sean didn't come for him) but being "bad" is what allows you to stay together.
Even the Lone Wolf ending is when you try to do the "right" thing and surrender, and Sean only dies because he isn't united with Daniel on that final push. The only way to stay with the people you love, to survive together, is to be "bad," be dangerous and mean and untamable. Falling in with society means being split apart, and that makes sense, because the game makes it very clear that what's defined as american "society" is fucked-up and bigoted (classism, racism, homophobia, take your pick).
It's a direct contradiction to the "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" presentation of america in the text--Esteban worked hard and his family was still torn apart, the brothers worked hard at the farm and it still went to shit--not to mention the idea of trying to be peaceful while still playing outside the rules, the way we see those softer edge-of-society communities like Away and the trimmigrant camp still being vulnerable to police incursions and capitalist exploitation.
You can be as good as you can, make all the right decision, and it doesn't get you anywhere. Sometimes only way to really make it through, a way that's true to who you are and your loved ones, is to tear it all down.

64 - What's Best For Us
...it isn't so bad, really. If this is the price I must pay for having gotten to go on this adventure, then I...
To have gone from knowing nothing and no-one, to traveling together with the people who would become my very best friends... to have experienced the terrifying rush of facing down powerful foes, and the triumph of winning them to our side... and to have had the chance to know the unbridled joys of love alongside the exquisite agonies of heartbreak... it is far more than a mere figment such as myself could ever have dared to dream of...!
...yet why do you now hesitate, when the final task is before us? Is this... not what you wanted? Didn't you agree to be the hero of this story, and see it through to its conclusion? When you look at me like that, it would almost seem that you actually care for me... as a priest must surely love the creature that they are bound to lead to the marbled altar...
No, don't cry, my light... you and I both know there's no place for me in your shining new world. I was only ever birthed to ferry you across the darkened waters of your psyche, to take you by the hand and lead you to where you needed to go. Now my thread is unspooled, pooling crimson at our feet... and you, dearest Atropos, must do your duty, as I have so diligently done mine.
So steady your hand lest your fumble your blade, and cut me clean from your glorious future! Forget the darkness that once cowed and coddled you, and stride confidently into the beginning of the rest of your life! For this I should gladly lay myself down, a worthy sacrifice to venerate my one and true God!
For a moment's pain upon the end of your knife is nothing compared to the boundless joy you've given me...

What I would give for just one more conversation with the version of you that still loved me..
-Dr 07.25.2022 (we never know when the last time is the last time, suddenly it’s just the end and the last time has slipped right through our finger tips and we were smiling because we didn’t have a clue.)

I believe I knew some parts of you before we ever met.
Before I held you in my arms, you were there between my fingers as sweet citrus tears.
The gust of wind, your laughter, the windblown leaves, your hair unraveled.
Tell me, why do the petals budding at the crack of dawn feel so much like your fingers reaching out to mine, reaching out to hold a hand when no one's prying.
I was gleaning one evening some trampled, dirt-covered seeds sprouting unnoticed, when I noticed the familiarity of a gentle unfurling essence of your being.
Somewhere between then, and now; between us brushing past, and us standing still; thinking of things neither of us can completely comprehend, I felt the linger that once hovered softly over my heart on a crimson weekend.
What I mean to say, is that I caught parts of you among all those things beautiful and tragic and unnoticed. Things that doesn't beg to be seen but will wither from desertion. That mustn't need to be followed but will appreciate being thought of.
And that maybe someday, somewhere between tomorrow's daybreak and the imminent handful of sunsets, we will grasp that heavy thing as it is, convincing ourselves to hold on to the feeling of love that comes with its destined farewells.
Because it didn't took me long to see your staying as only momentarily.

Chapter 2: Parting Ways
Narrated by Jiang Beixi.
Narrator: On our ride to the hotel, I sort out our materials and plan filming details while Vivian chats with the tour guide.
Vivian: You’re a local, right?
Guide: Yeah! A local through and through. I know a lot about my hometown.
Vivian: So your ancestors are from here, too, huh? Interesting! How long have you been working as a tour guide?
Guide: Not that long. It’s an on-and-off thing. I only take up this job when my family needs cash.
Vivian: Oh. Does that mean that people here mostly work part-time?
Guide: You mean like... Is it easy to hire someone for just a few hours?
Guide: You’re in luck! There are always people on the plaza looking for odd jobs. Tell them you know me and you’ll get a discount.
Vivian: Perfect! I knew you’d be the right person to ask. Thanks a lot!
Narrator: Why do we need to hire part-time workers? What exactly does she want?
Narrator: Before I can voice my confusion, Vivian leans closer, whispering into my ear.
Vivian: I’ve got it all sorted out! You said you want to film poachers in action, right? I have an idea...
Vivian: We can grab a few part-timers and guns and set up a scene on the prairie tomorrow. Efficient and effective.
Jiang Beixi: That would make our footage fake. I do not condone fake news.
Narrator: I know people stage their scenes sometimes, but I certainly didn’t expect this from my own colleague.
Narrator: Vivian seems surprised and genuinely confused at my reaction.
Vivian: How will it be fake? Poaching is a real thing that happens, and we’re just showing the audience that, right?
Jiang Beixi: Perhaps, but my camera is for capturing authentic scenes only.
Vivian: How long will we have to stake out for that? And we’ll only be spending a few days here. What if no poachers turn up?
JIang Beixi: If none turn up, we’ll just have to do with no footage.
Vivian: Fine, then. You’ll be in charge of the filming schedule from now on.
Narrator: I simply shrug. Judging from the good-natured annoyance on her face, Vivian now knows not to cross me.
Narrator: Neither of us speaks the rest of the way to the hotel, and the tour guide warns us to always stick together for safety purposes.
Narrator: Unable to wander alone, Vivian and I are stuck in our shared room, sorting out our belongings in awkward silence.
Choose either “Won’t it be awkward to try shooting now?” or “It’s too difficult a partnership to try to make work.”
If “awkward,” ...
You: Will the awkwardness between you two affect the filming?
Narrator: It’s manageable, at least for me.
If “difficult,” ...
You: Maybe you two are just not meant to work together. You should go separate ways.
Narrator: If we split up now, we won’t be able to film according to the plan. Let me see what she thinks.
--
Narrator: I take the initiative to speak after I’ve taken care of my luggage.
Jiang Beixi: Are you up for the trip to the prairie tomorrow?
Vivian: ...Of course.
Narrator: She flashes me a smile, which is more than enough for me. I nod at her.
Jiang Beixi: Then pack up your things. It might be a while before we get back to town since there’s a lot of footage we need.
Vivian: How long will we be there?
Jiang Beixi: A few months, I think. I’ve got the schedule all sorted out according to the wildlife activity. Read it when you have time.
Vivian: A few months?
Narrator: She yelps. It’s my turn to be surprised.
Vivian: I thought we’d be here for less than a week. My travel-sized sunscreen won’t last that long!
Jiang Beixi: We won’t be able to film a thing in just a week.
Vivian: Ahhh, no way... Alright, you can go on with your filming. I’m heading home!
Jiang Beixi: Are you sure?
Narrator: Vivian flashes me a wistful look and takes out her phone to book her plane ticket.
Choose either “Failed, indeed” or “Not going to salvage it?”
If “failed,” ...
You: Guess it didn’t work out after all.
Narrator: That can’t be helped. We’re on different wavelengths. I’ll just have to focus on my filming schedule.
If “salvage,” ...
You: Won’t you ask her to stay?
Narrator: I did what I could. We’re on different wavelengths. I’ll just have to focus on my filming schedule.
--
Narrator: Just as I’m about to leave the next morning, Vivian pokes her head out of the bathroom, a bit jittery.
Vivian: Where are you going?
Jiang Beixi: Filming, of course. Why?
Vivian: Uh... the next flight back to Apple Federation is five days away...
Vivian: Can you... stay with me for a few more days?
Narrator: She keeps glancing at the tightly shut windows.
Narrator: If she’s that worried about someone climbing in through the windows, she can just keep them locked, right?
Jiang Beixi: My filming schedule is quite tight. I need to start today.
Narrator: I continue putting on my shoes and get ready to head out, but she rushes over and grabs me.
Vivian: Wait! I’ll come with you. I have time to spare anyway, and you could use the help.
Narrator: I shoot her a puzzled look. What help could she offer me? I shrug and pick up my equipment.
Jiang Beixi: Get ready, then. We leave in 5 minutes.

Against All Odds
Part 179
McCoy
“Come on Jim,” McCoy said to the blond boy. “Let’s go send that info to my father and he can get it taken care of right now.”
“Sure…” Jim agreed slowly.
McCoy gave Scotty’s arm a squeeze, then led Jim from the lounge.
“Why…?” Jim asked quietly as they walked up the stairs.
“Because it’ll make you happy. And it’ll make Spock happy too. You shouldn’t have to be miserable all summer. And,… because you’re my friend Jim.”
They entered McCoy’s room and he picked up his PADD. He opened a message to his father and waited for Jim to give him the information to send.
“Did you want to grab your PADD? In case your uncle calls to tell you the news?” McCoy asked as they began the walk back downstairs.
“No,” Jim said firmly. “He’ll probably be pissed and everyone doesn’t need to hear him yell at me.”
McCoy nodded sympathetically. “I hope Father gets him to say yes. It’ll be fun to have you visit.”
Breakfast was a very casual affair the next morning in the large dining hall with the boys and the girls, since everyone had different flight times off planet, or parents picking them up.
Jim’s glowing face when he walked in told them all they needed to know about a call from Frank.
Scotty clapped him on the shoulder.
“We’re gonna have so much fun.”
“Father is coming around 9, be ready then Jim, ok,” McCoy told him.
Jim nodded enthusiastically. McCoy saw Scotty frown slightly.
“We leave at 8:30, with the other students heading for Earth,” Scotty said quietly to him.
“Well, eat up and we’ll get more time together first,” McCoy said.
“Ooo,” Jim leered at them.
“Shut up laddie,” Scotty laughed. “Some of us aren’t so lucky as to get to spend the entire break with our love.”
McCoy enjoyed the blush that crossed Jim’s face and the matching one on Spock’s face. He wondered if Spock had told Jim about T’Pring, then decided it wasn’t any of his business.
Keenser came up to the table then and touched Scotty’s shoulder. Scotty turned at the touch.
“Are you off then lad?” Scotty asked.
Keenser nodded. Scotty reached over and hugged the Roylan.
“Have a good summer.”
“You too,” Keenser said. He waved a hand at the rest of them. “Bye.”
Keenser walked away again to a chorus of farewells.
Christine walked over as McCoy and Scotty were standing to leave.
“My parents will be here in a couple minutes,” she said. “I had to come say bye first.”
McCoy pushed in his chair and then wrapped Christine in a hug. Christine returned it and kissed him on the cheek. She released him and gave Scotty the same hug and kiss.
“Write to me or call, ok?” she said. “I don’t want to get all my news from the tabloids.”
McCoy chuckled. “We will.”
“Good.”
“Hey,” Jim called from the table, “don’t I get a kiss too?”
Christine rolled her eyes at him, but did move around to go hug Jim.
“Have a good summer ok Jim?” Christine said. They could all hear her concern.
Jim grinned at her. “I will,” he said brightly. “I’m not going home.”
“What?”
“He’s coming with us,” Scotty answered.
They saw the surprise on Christine’s face.
“He’s coming with me for half the summer and then to Scotty’s the other half,” McCoy told her.
“That’s great! Have fun!” Christine squeezed Jim’s shoulder.
“Now you really have to keep me updated on everything,” she said to McCoy.
He laughed again and pulled her for another hug as she came back around the table.
“You have fun with him too,” he whispered in her ear about her boyfriend.
He saw the brief color on her cheeks as she waved goodbye to them.
Part 180
It was the day of departure. But Scotty wanted to make the most of the last hours he could spend with Leonard.
So after breakfast they headed straight to the gardens to have some privacy. Scotty felt his heart flutter when he placed his hand in his pocket. He had a surprise for his boyfriend. And he really hoped that Leonard would like it.
They sat down on a bench not too far from the school building and looked up at the bright sky. No clouds. Just the sun shining on their faces.
Scotty closed his eyes and smiled, reached for Leonard's hand. When he found it, he squeezed it gently.
"I... I've got something for ye."
He looked at his love who gave him a surprised 'Oh'.
Scotty shoved his hand back into the pocket and pulled out two rings.
Leonard stared at them, blinking a few times and Scott felt his cheeks blushing.
"I... I hope it's not too personal. I've made them myself."
Scotty placed one in Leonard's palm and kept the other.
"There is the insignia of a sun on that one. And a moon on mine."
Leonard nodded, examining the sun more closely.
"If ye tap the insignia lightly... mine will blink. And if I tap mine, it's the same with yers."
Scotty smiled shyly.
"So whenever we miss each other... we just have to send us a light."
Leonard didn't say anything at first, then he wrapped his arm around Scotty and pulled him close.
"This is perfect. Thank you."
They kissed before they put the rings onto their fingers.
A sign of their love. Something to cross the distance separating them.
A few hours later they were standing in front of the school. Scotty stood close to Leonard while Robbie said goodbye to Hikaru and Pavel who's parents would pick them up.
"So... this is it, huh?"
Scotty felt the lump in his throat but he quickly swallowed it down. He wouldn't cry in front of everyone.
It was getting harder when Leonard wrapped his arms around him and hugged him tightly.
"Two weeks. A call everyday. We can do this."
Leonard's hand ran through his hair.
"Aye... we can."
"Everyone, get inside!" The bus driver called.
Scotty didn't want to let go. He just wanted to stay in Leonard's arms forever.
"Come on..." A hand brushed his arm and Scotty let go of Leonard to see his brother next to him.
He was smiling sympathetically. And Scotty gave him a nod before he looked at Leonard one last time.
"I love ye."
"I love you too."
He slowly got into the bus and looked out of the window.
Two weeks. They could do this.
