“Is anyone else concerned?” Weiss asked with pursed lip to the rest of the table, occupied by the rest of Team RWBY.

Ruby balanced a pencil on her nose, Yang played some game on her scroll, and Blake read through a trashy magazine.

“About what?” Ruby asked innocently, still balancing the pencil.

Yang looked up from her game, searching for fire and/or danger, but finding none went back to her game.

Blake however, responded. “Not really,”

“But, I am, though, I am greatly concerned.” Weiss said looking quite nervous.

The pencil dropped from Ruby’s nose and hit her in the right eye, she yelped and fell backwards into the floor.

Blake flipped a page in her trashy, terrible magazine. “You shouldn’t be, everything’s fine.”

“I really don’t think it is!” Weiss stood up, chair skirting behind her, pointing out of the library window at a small hut in the courtyard. “There’s a actual village out there!”

Blake flips a page. “Yes, and everything is fine, Weiss.”

Weiss scowls, still gesturing to the hut. “Team JNPR has been living out for weeks, they’re devolving!”

“Shouldn’t have lost the key to they’re room.” Yang said, turning with her scroll, as if that made her a better player.

Ruby got up from the floor. “They’re poor weapons! Stuck and alone, all by themselves!”

Weiss walked over to the window, observing the coming and going from the hut.

Ren was smoking fish, and Jaune was doing a rain dance to mixed success.

Pyrrha and Nora were gone though, likely on another hunting trip.

“This isn’t ethical,” Weiss moaned.

“What isn’t ethical, is how short they’re pelts are, hot-damn!” Yang said leering at the two.

“I wouldn’t worry about them Weiss, they haven’t even reach the bronze age!” Ruby cheerfully looked at her. “They’re no threat till they’ve at least reached the iron age, we live safely for another day!”

“I wouldn’t say that Ruby,” Blake stood next to her, inspecting the set up in the courtyard. “I spot a couple snares, a tiger trap, and what looks to be a log connect to a trip wire, and they’re location is situated in a way to optimally fend off invaders. I’d say they’re just about leaving the stone age.”

They’re was a yelp, and cry of fear. “Ren help!”

“How?! You helped me build these things!”

“I slipped while doing my rain dance! Help me, Nora actually put Tigers down here!”

Ruby looked at Blake smugly. “You were saying?”

Blake looked back at her. “That was Jaune, it was bound to happen.” She points back out. “Look, he’s even tamed the tiger now.”

The tiger had some how managed to get out of the pit, Jaune hanging from it’s jaws. It settled down next to the fire, and started grooming him, Jaune’s face contorted in pain from a barbed tongue that could lick paint off a wall, but unwilling to upset the creature.

Ruby hufffed. “Whatever, girl.”

“Hey!” Yang got they’re attention. “The girls are back! Damn, those pelts are just as criminal on them!”

Returning to the tribe from the woods, was Pyrrha and Nora, holding a stone tipped spear and a large club respectively, with Nora taking the lead and gleely skipping over the traps, with Pyrrha carrying something slung over her shoulder.

Weiss’s eyes went wide. “Do they have a war prisoner?!”

Blake nodded. “Yes, it would seem, so. Not uncommon for primitives to take captives to replenish low numbers, mostly to kidnap brides. Or for skilled workers.”

“That’s Velvet? That’s Velvet.” Yang asked, then confirmed, as Pyrrha roughly tossed Velvet before Jaune. Nora tried to pet the Tiger, only for it to hide behind Jaune in fear. “I heard her team got locked out of they’re room too, did they raid Team CFVY’s camp?”

Blake nodded. “It seems so, how interesting, I heard they had subjugated and assimilated team NDGO, so I assumed they were in a more powerful miltary position, especially after they raised Team CRDL’s camp to the ground.”

Weiss watched in horror as Jaune nodded appreciatively, leading Velvet into the hut. “We need to call the teachers!” Making to leave.

Only for Blake to grab her by both shoulders, stopping her in place. “And who are you to play god?! This must play out as nature intended, otherwise they’re culture will never achieve apotheosis!”

“Blake, you’re scaring me!”

“Hey!” Ruby called them back to the window. “Look, he’s showing her how to use the pottery wheel.”

Weiss felt a flush of embarrassment, as like Ruby said, Jaune was indeed just doing that.

They had brought a pottery wheel out of the hut, and Jaune was showing Velvet how to use it. The girl picking up the skill quite fast, seeming to also enjoy doing it, with Jaune helping to correct any flaws he picked out.

Ren, then came over with a fur-pelt with the word JNPR on the back, dropping it in Velvet’s hands, then pointing at the hut.

“They have a tribal identity! Fascinating!” Blake pounded her hand into her palm.

Weiss started to inch away, only for Yang’s iron grip to keep her in place. “Wow, look at that! We’re going to see a raid!” Pointing out a glow in the woods, where a warparty, consisting of Team CFVY at the back, with a collar team’s NDGO and CRDL at the front.

Coco barked out a harsh order, then sent them CRDL first, the team of boys running forth into traps, quickly being taken out by them, but exposing them at the same time.

Another bark, and Team NDGO was sent forth, wiping on the rest of the traps, before Coco, Fox, and Yatsuhashi charged forth.

Pyrrha and Ren chucked spears at them as they charged forth, while Nora threw boulders at them.

Jaune just started rain-dancing harder.

Velvet contently kept making bowls and vases.

The tiger was hiding in the hut.

“Alright, this is definitely against the rules!” Weiss shouted.

“I know, it’s awesome, right?” Yang asked Ruby, who nodded her head aggressively.

“OH! First blood!” Ruby cried out, as Yatsuhashi fell, Nora jumping into the air and striking him in the temple with her club, the giant falling back with a crash that sounded more like a tree falling then a human, as he tumbled back into a pitfall.

Only for a boulder to be sent to greet Nora, sending her flying into the treeline and out of the fight, from Coco.

Pyrrha and Ren teamed up on Fox, the blind-fighter more than holding him own, but eventually overwhelmed before Coco could assist him.

Before they could celebrate a victory, a rock hit Ren in the head, sending the ninja into unconsciousness.

Leaving Pyrrha and Coco to circle each other as the last combatants.

Pyrrha holding her spear in both hands, while Coco was spinning a sling in her hands, tossing a handful of rocks in the other.

An epic battle ensuing between the two tribal champions, Coco rapidly shooting rocks at Pyrrha, only for her to block them with her spear.

Charging forth, jabbing at her with the spear, but Coco deftly dodging, then grabbing the spear, lifting the spear and Pyrrha up into the air with one arm, then pulling her down.

Punching in the face with a cry that could easily be translated to, ‘This one’s not metal, bitch!’

Finally, Coco walked over to Jaune, the man dancing as fast his leg could go, still rain-dancing.

The tiger jumped out of the hut to attack Coco, only to be backhanded with no second thought.

Coco loomed before Jaune, reaching out to grab the blonde.

When Jaune finished his rain-dance, panting and out of air, falling to his knees.

Coco laughed.

Then the sky split open, rain coming down in sheet, thunder rolled violently, and a spear of lightning came down.

Hitting Coco head-first.

And again.

And again.

And again.

Coco proceeded to break the world-record for most consecutive lightning strikes in one minute.

Weiss looked out at the battlefield shocked. “What just happened?” Ruby swearing as she paid Yang twenty lien.

Blake nodded her head. “Divine providence, Jaune honored the gods and they favored him, pretty simple really.”

Ruby looked at Blake. “They cheated! Coco was totally going to win! No one said they were a part of this!”

Blake shrugged, then gestured to the sky. “Take it up with them, if you have a problem with it.”

Ruby pulls out Crescent Rose. “I will then!” She pointed the rifle at the sky. “Fight me,” The sky remained raining. “Unless, you’re a bitch!” The sky rumbled dramatically.

A angelic sniper-rifle peered out of the clouds, angelic laser-sight aimed at Ruby, who had a brief moment to express regret, before a arrow of light struck her head, knocking her out.

Yang cradled Ruby’s unconscious body. “I will avenge you, Ruby!” The dot realign on Yang’s head.

Yang slowly put her hands in the air. “On second though, revenge is over-rated, and she had it coming.”

“Traitor,” Ruby coughed.

Yang dropped Ruby. “You brought this upon yourself.”

“Look!” Blake said excitedly. “They’re integrating the losers into they’re tribe! How fascinating!”

Down below, Pyrrha was gleefully jabbing a annoyed Coco with her spear, as she was forced to make arrow heads and slings, as though that would get her to work faster.

Nora was riding on Yatsu’s shoulder a crude plough attach to his waist, using him as a beast of burden to overturn the courtyard’s soil, Team’s Cardinal planting seeds in his wake.

Ren was strictly monitoring team NDGO on how to sew, cook, and clean. Smacking they’re hands with a branch when they messed up, and glaring at them if they got disobedient.

Fox was assisting Velvet at the pottery wheel.

And Jaune? Jaune had fallen unconscious after dancing for twelve hours, stealthily being whisked away by Messengers of the Gods to be taken to the heavens.

Weiss looked to Blake, horror and confusion in her face. “What’s your stance on in intervention on Divine Intervention?”

Blake wiped away a tear. “May the dead rest in peace.”

Ruby leered with Yang as they watch him being pulled into the heavens. “I can see up his furs.”

“Nice~,” Yang nodded.

Weiss sighed, and walked away, absolutely done with this madness.

It was time to take a nap, walking to her dorm.

Scanning her scroll, when a look of horror overtook her.

Joke I had. Don't know if it has been told yet. So setting is Beacon (No Fall of Beacon) Team Rwby and Jnpr (Second years) has a family over. (Jacques is in prison and Willow divorced him) So Yang while showing her girlfriend Blake to her dad and trips with yells Motherf#cker. Ghira,Tai, and Jaune all sneeze afterwards.

"So then I said, 'Now that's a katana~!'"

The group laughed at her joke, no more so, though, than her own father. Taiyang wiped a tear from his eye as he beamed with pride at his daughter. Whether the beam was more proud than ones given by other parents to their kids was hard to say. In the year following the Battle for Beacon, things had noticeably quieted down.

Yang and her dad hung around with Ruby on the other side with Qrow, the uncle-niece duo already having more than enough jokes to last them both a lifetime. Hanging onto Yang's arm was Blake, whose feeling for the blonde brawler became more evident after she'd risked her life for the woman who risked her life. Costed her an arm, sure, but it was well worth the days of recovery for her.

Adam was in jail with most of the White Fang, Cinder Fall escaped with the others, and the Grimm were routed and exterminated by the joint effort of huntsmen and huntresses from all kingdoms. Heck, love had even blossomed outside of her life, too. Pyrrha and Jaune had a heartfelt reunion in which the couple made out for what was probably a good five minutes before parting. Say what you will about Vomit Boy, he's got some lungs on him.

But Pyrrha wasn't the only one with eyes on him. No, he'd been getting looks all night from just about everyone in the room. She'd walked past Pyrrha who had to be sure Jaune would be okay alone, which she thought was ridiculous until she turned around and saw Weiss, Ruby, and Velvet jostling each other to get closer to him.

But the craziest thing was she thought she saw was when Weiss' mom was probably eye-banging him. Recently divorced after a wild lawsuit battle that lasted almost a year, the beautiful Willow Schnee was notably more vibrant than ever before. Weiss commented that it was because something good finally happened to her mother that wasn't just leaving her awful father. But nobody could figure out what it was. Maybe-

"Shit!" Yang tripped, falling and cracking her eye on the corner of the table. Blake came over to comfort her girlfriend, who was holding her hand over her eye. "Argh! Motherfucker!"

"ACHOO!" Bellowed a heavy gust of wind, like a hurricane from a beast.

"Here you go, Ghira." Cooed Blake's mom.

"Heh-choo!" Came a familiar voice, with a sneeze that made her laugh as a child.

"Ack-choo!" Said another familiar, this one from a groggy drunk half-deep in his third flask.

"Here you go, Dad!" Ruby said before zipping again. "Here, Uncle Qrow!"

"Kichoo!" Fluttered a smaller voice, this one sneezing like a kitten.

"Oh, Jaune." Pyrrha handed him a handkerchief. "Are you getting sick?"

"Nah, I'm fine, Pyrrha."

"Yeah, you are." Purred a voice that made Yang lift her head up. Looking through the crowd, she saw Jaune holding Pyrrha close, while Weiss' mom rubbed his shoulder from behind. Pyrrha squeezed Jaune closer, making the older woman giggle. "Fine, fine. I'll see you two later tonight~!"

Yang shook her head.

"Are you okay, Yang?" Blake asked.

"I... I think I need to lie down."

Jaune stumbles on May fixing her wrapping in a bush. She is embarrassed her secret, her massive chest, is now exposed. Surprisingly Jaune gets mad at her about using wrapping since it is unsafe. Promises to help her shop for a binder while he fixes her wrapping. Although she is happy he isn’t lusting after her like many before him, why did she have this strange sense of disappointment?

May swore she could hear the sound of her heart cracking beneath the voluminous weight of her bust. Her chest slowly rose and fell, resulting in a rather obvious jiggle through her unfortunately, still growing chest. She could feel the deep crimson forming upon her cheeks, a hot flame burning her face as she tried to look anywhere but at the person in front of her.

For in front of her was one Jaune Arc, a young man from team JNPR. The only thing she knew about him was that he was partnered with Pyrrha Nikos, and that her teammates HATED him, for obvious reason. Well except Nolan, but that's cause Nolan was eying another red-head.

Regardless! She had no idea what to do, or what to say! Or what HE was going to do. Because try as she might, she couldn't hide her massive bust spilling out from her arms as she did her best to hide her dignity.

Yet, what happened shocked her, first she found herself draped in his hoodie, his eyes diverted, but a look of... fury? Upon his face.

"Hey... you shouldn't be wearing those." She was confused by his statement at first, only to find his finger pointed at her wrappings which had all but burst on her.

"Wha."

He didn't let her even start, "They're bad for your growth and they can do more harm then good... here." She watched as he pulled out a small notepad and a pen and scribbled down a number. "This is my scroll number, I'll have to reach out to Rua, but my sister went through... something similar, and she found a good place for more supportive bra's... anyways don't hurt yourself."

His tone was mixed between angry and concerned, something she was NOT AT ALL used to.

"Uhm... I know that's weird, and you don't have to, but I suggest reaching out to me when you get the chance, that way I can get to her and have her uh help you... anyways..." He suddenly vanished, "SORRY!" His voice trailing in the distance.

She was left there, dumbfounded and blinking... "What just happened?"

And as she pulled the hoodie over her... she couldn't help but feel slightly miffed.

Hello!

I’ve been enjoying your ship takes and the lengthy responses to em! Been a fun read. Here’s another for your list if you’d like. I can’t pick between the two so feel free to choose: crosshares or blackvelvet

No reason I can’t do both!

Crosshares has that classic ‘extroverted person and introverted person’ vibe going for it, and while some people might call that cliche, I call it tried and true.

Now to be fair I would not really classify Velvet as being an actual introvert as we have seen her be plenty outgoing in both the show and the two books focusing on team CFVY, so it’s more that they give off that vibe than it definitely being the case. Regardless, they are definitely cute together. While I personally prefer YatsuxVelvet (though I don’t know their ship name), crosshares is still plenty cute.

That being said, I do feel I have to knock a couple points off because I’m not the biggest fan of some of Coco’s attitude and behavior in the CFVY books, mainly that it is specifically stated that she wears sunglasses so that she can check women out without being caught. Which is kinda creepy, honestly. If Coco were a guy and doing that to women I think we would all rightfully consider him a creep. Being a woman doesn’t make it better.

But in all fairness I would hope that once she was in a relationship with Velvet she would stop checking out other women, so I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt and restore a knocked point.

I give it a 6/10, all things being even.

Now, as for Black Velvet:

Blake and Velvet starting a relationship would be really interesting, especially if it’s back at Beacon before Blake really came out of her shell. If I remember correctly, Blake either told Velvet that she was a faunus, or Velvet figured it out on her own. Either way, I can imagine that Velvet would try to encourage Blake to uncover her ears and not hide who she is. Blake, on the other hand, would want to keep her involvement in the White Fang a secret from Velvet, just like she did her team. She is trying to leave that life behind, after all.

And of course there’d be the interesting situation with their families. Velvet’s father works for Atlas after all, while Blake was in conflict with Atlas and the SDC for years. And of course there’s the fact that Blake’s father founded the White Fang.

Additionally I can’t imagine Blake would be nearly as passive about Cardin bullying velvet if they were in a relationship. She’d definitely be throwing hands with all of team CRDL, which would inevitably draw the rest of team RWBY, JNPR, and CFVY into beating down team CRDL.

Glorious.

Then of course there would be the strain in their relationship that would come from Blake still trying to figure out what the WF is up to in Vale, and ignoring her own needs because of it. Which would lead to a reconciliation at the dance, then the drama of the Vytal festival attack and everything following that…

I did not expect to have this many thoughts about Black Velvet. There’s a lot to unpack with these two, and so much you could do with them. Grade A fic material right here.

I give it a 9/10. Probably the best crack ship I’ve received an ask for so far.

When all hope is gone,

GingaRed is shown holding onto GingaPink to steady each otherin, his visor cracked to show one of his blue eyes as Cinder’s reflection appears in the uncracked portion.

There is one thing we can do~

The Morphing Emissaries are shown looking upon them as their allies come running towards them.

Let's just live!

Akared is shown fighting a group of aliens, constantly shifting his form into other Red Rangers every time he spins to fight a different opponent.

Day by day and not be conquered by our sorrows!

Nick is shown fighting Tyrian with his sword, as Blanche fires at the mad faunus, forcing him to back off.

The past can't hold us down

Taiyang is shown wielding metal gauntlets as he punches Grimm in their bone masks, leaving cracks while Qrow swings his sword at the camera.

We must break free~

Whitley gazes at Jacques’ image in a mirror before punching it, as he is shown punching an alien as GingaBlue.

Inside we're torn apart~

The Gingaman are seen kneeling without their suits.

But time will mend our hearts!

Their friends appear and lift them to their feet as they become the Gingaman in a flash of light.

Move onward not there yet!

The StarBeasts are shown roaring, before quickly combining into GingaiOh in a flash of light.

So let's just live!

The Gingaman are shown striking their team pose, their friends and family smiling besides with GingaiOh standing tall behind them.

Author’s note; A little “something something” to keep you all entertained as I finish up Chapter 2. I’m already halfway done with it, so it might not take me much longer. Young Justice x RWBY headcanon:

After arriving to Earth-16, Teams RWBY, JNPR and SSSN had joined the Team in order to solve the convergence of their two worlds. The Earth-16's team of teenage superheroes recruited Wonder Girl (Donna Troy) as it's newest member to the Team.

Robin and Lie Ren bonded over their losses of their parents, as they both hinted of their emotional barrier of their fears of not being strong enough to prevent any losses.

Superboy and Yang have a friendly rivalry over their raw strengths. Even voice put their desires to protect their friends. With Conner, also being annoyed with Yang's puns.

Blake Belladonna and Artemis teamed up against the League of Shadows that teamed up with the White Fang. Scratch that, the war between the White Fang and the League of Shadows.

Meanwhile, Neptune Vasilias and Kid Flash got off to a friendly start, but then it turned into a rivalry when Kid Flash started flirting with Weiss Schnee (trying to make Artemis jealous, who he has not dated yet, since it took place before the season finale of YJ), who only has interest in Neptune. Seeing this, Neptune gets jealous for the way he tries to crack jokes. But in the end, Weiss only chooses Neptune. In the end, Kid Flash wishes him and Weiss good luck. And even advising Neptune not to let go of the people he loves.

Ruby and Jaune bonded with Aqualad, over their leadership skills. While Ruby and Jaune were still on the brink of struggle to lead their teams, Aqualad assured them that leadership doesn't come with the qualities of skills, it only comes with their own motivation to keep going.

Pyrrha Nikos and Wonder Girl practiced their skills in a sparring match. There, Wonder Girl opens up about her status as an Amazon Princess, but also the fact that she isn't a true Amazon by blood after being adopted by her mother, Queen Hippolyta and elder sister, Wonder Woman. How she practices to live to their standards, how her mother worries about her due to her being a mortal than the rest of the Amazons. Pyrrha also opens up about the idealism she grew up with and how she wishes she didn't have to be placed on a pedestal, or being treated like a champion. Wondering if destiny should be believed.

Nora Valkyrie and Miss Martian also have a sisterly bond over their cheerful attitude. Though Miss Martian gets a bit astonished about her hyperactive behavior, she does her best not to be rude to Nora about it. But then Nora voices out about her feelings for Ren after seeing how Miss Martian and Superboy are content to one another. Miss Martian advises to wait until she is ready to tell Ren how she feels.

Pot of Gold AU: Morning Moments Part 1

Morning shenanigans

Jaune woke up to his face getting bombarded with something wet repeatedly.

Jaune: GAH! I'm up I'm up!

Jaune sat up and saw the pups sitting looking adorable and happy as always.

Jaune: smirk Did you guys wake me up?

He received several barks of confirmation. He chuckled and looked at the clock.

It was 8:30?!

Oh wait, it's Saturday...

Jaune sighed in relief, then he looked at his team's sleeping forms. He grinned as an idea went into his head.

Jaune: Hey guys. Wake 'em' up.

Immediately the pups bolted for the beds. They eagerly jumped on the beds, surprising Jaune, and started licking their faces.

Pyrrha and Ren bolted up from the sudden sensation. They calmed down when they realized it was just the puppies.

Nora on the other hand, continue to snore and absentmindedly grabbed the nearest puppy for a hug, the puppy being Pete.

Jaune snickered at them.

Jaune: Morning, guys! Enjoy your wake-up call?

Ren: deadpan Did you seriously order them to wake us up, Jaune? absentmindedly pets Pancake

Jaune: Hey! They woke me up first like that!

Pyrrha: yawn Morning everyone...

Suddenly, Nora stood up from her bed and stretched out an arm wide while the other one held onto Pete.

Nora: Good morning JNPR! she brings Pete closer to her face And good morning to you too, lil guy!

Pete barked out his own version of a good morning and gave Nora a lick on the nose, making her really happy.

Jaune stood up and stretched his back with a few audible cracks.

Ren: Sleep well, Jaune?

Jaune: Peachy, the floor was cold but I got a blanket and a blanket of puppies to keep me warm.

Pyrrha: Anyone wants breakfast?

Nora: Pancakes! Pancakes! Pancakes!

The pups joined Nora's chanting in their own way, via barking. Jaune, Ren, and Pyrrha were very amused and laughed.

Jaune: Heheh, alright let's get ready and wake up RWBY for some breakfast.

Nora: with the pups YAY!

Later, the team got ready and headed out to wake up their friends..

honestly i'm thinking about my overthrown ozpin au since someone reblogged an old post abt it

i'm just thinking abt his exile, how devastated and confused he was, yet trying desperately to stay optimistic, that surely this will all blow over

thinking abt ozpin going to old safehouses and old allies, only for those places and people to no longer be safe, being betrayed time and time again

thinking abt him retreating into the woods outside of vale, at first hoping that at least one village would help him, would believe him, only for even them to distrust him, for rumors to have been made, only for him to be damn near burned at the stake because some particularly religious people claimed he was a 'witch' (and isn't that ironic?)

thinking abt ozpin's trust and hope in people being completely shattered, even when it came to simple old civilians because even the children in villages were terrified of him

ozpin attempting to hide deep in the thickest part of the woods, making his own little house, having to call on the survival skills of several past lives just to get by

oscar running away at 14 successfully with the help of qrow and RWBY, glynda dying in the process, and oscar having to deal with the awful amount of PTSD he has as well as his disabilities, and requiring a new prosthetic leg (which was based off of mercurys legs)

ozpin attacking atlas directly with his new, massive metallic/grimm wyvern the size of monstra, stealing the winter maiden powers from winter and killing her, killing ironwood, and destroying atlas with the sword of destruction

ozpin being practically half grimm, the grimm from his arm having covered half of his body, allowing him to control grimm, summon those shadow hands via glyphs, and allowing him to contort in horrifying ways and to regenerate the grimm part of himself (it's not painless, it hurts like hell)

ozpin finally being killed by oscar via the sword of destruction, ending the war

the kingdoms having several civil wars and wars between each other afterwards because no one can decide on how to tackle the history of the war

the veterans from all sides refusing to talk about the war

ozpin reincarnating in oscar, and due to oscar healing with his friends help, oscar takes no bullshit from oz, and as a result, oz slowly, slowly heals

oscar being adopted by ruby and penny, and grieving the loss of winter, yang, nora, glynda and pyrrha with the remnants of the two teams

i was wondering your thoughts on jaune as a character tbh. today i was thinking about atla and where it succeeded versus where rwby failed (especially because miles luna himself has compared rwby to atla multiple times).

one thing i disliked about rwby is that all four of the girls are super important in some way. ruby has silver eyes, weiss is the SDC heiress (richest company in the world), blake is WF leader’s daughter (also from a wealthy family), yang’s mom is a maiden. none of them are normal.

in atla, we have aang (the avatar), katara (who’s the last southern tribe waterbender… kinda?), toph (rich family daughter), zuko (firelord’s son) and sokka… who is completely normal. i like how they have a normal guy in atla which makes him relatable to the viewer.

the problem is in rwby, this normal guy is jaune. who ends up sticking along in the plot and being forced by the writers to be in situations which get him hate from the fndm. miles said jaune is partially inspired by sokka (dorky funny strategist type) but at the same time it means jnpr has to be part of the rwby adventures for jaune to be around. which makes people dislike jaune even more.

i kinda rambled but i was wondering yours thoughts on him? where did he fail where sokka succeeded and so on in your opinion?

Not to mention the inclusion of Oscar who is basically Normal Guy 2.0 before Ozpin came along, but yeah.

Hypothetically, Blake would have been a great everyman type for Team RWBY had she not been revealed to be of noble birth. Had she been written more as an orphan left to fight on the wilds outside the Kingdoms, her humble origin would have been a good contrast to the rest of Team RWBY, and grounded her with the audience within the team.

But in regards to Jaune, I've had some discussions on my server about him, and he's a tough nut to crack. Speaking of his failure within the context of canon, there is a definitely a disconnect between him being essentially a fifth main character and being a part of the B-team.

Another shortcoming is that he often, as many have and will attest, steals moments much better suited for other characters. Him vs. Cinder and killing Penny come to mind, both of which would vastly benefit Ruby more. And I think it's because he doesn't have an arc to speak of, ironically given his name.

For Sokka, he has a very distinct arc and dynamic within the Gaang that doesn't really overlap with the others. Neither Aang, Katara nor Toph are natural skeptics, nor are they non-benders, nor do they have an interest in technology or strategy. And his actual arc revolves around learning to be a man - not immature machismo, but responsibility and virtue. This alone lets Sokka occupy a niche that makes him valuable to the audience, because his unique experience is valuable.

However, Jaune, like Oscar, has many aspects that feel poached from other characters. His struggles as a leader steps on the toes of Ruby's arc as a team leader. His implied backstory as being from a line of famous Hunters can overlap with Weiss and the Schnee legacy (though due to how vague this detail is, there's room to play with this to make it more distinct). His niche as a strategist/tactician also overlaps with Ruby, leaving fans to headcanon distinctions between them, such as making Jaune a more "big picture tactician", while Ruby is a more "boots on the ground" strategist.

But the problem, as seen, lies in the fact that he offers very little to the audience, because what he offers, other characters can too. But because he does a little bit of everything, he is also always a little bit relevant to any situation, inflating his presence but not his importance in the show.

I've seen a post that posits that Jaune was at his most likeable in Volume 7, because there he was playing the role he should be to Team RWBY: a supporting character. While I do agree somewhat with this, as he was at his most likeable, being a sort of anchor trying to stay positive for everyone (nevermind that this is a trait overlapping with Ruby), he was also pretty... harmless?

I suppose it's because I've grown used to his extended presence, but him actually being more in the background also made him feel... kinda basic? There was really nothing too offensive, but also nothing terribly interesting for him to fall back on. He has no unique dynamic to bounce off of, no unique niche to fill. He's just kind of... there, occupying whatever vague role the story needs for him. And that makes him fairly forgettable; likeable only because he was no longer overstaying his welcome.

As for possible solutions, if I had to rework him from the ground up, I'd probably take Jaune in one of two directions, if not a bit of both:

A pampered noble. Lean more into his sheltered upbringing and weak start. He's from a long line of Hunters but for whatever reason was not raised as one or just lacks talent. Like Weiss but without any of the bite.

An underdog. This would work more if he was from more humble origins, but basically a no-name dude trying to work his way from the bottom.

Personally, I would lean more towards Option 1, if only because Oscar is clearly of humble birth and I would want to keep them as distinct from each other as possible. But for both, I would emphasize his underdog vibe as a weak fighter, as that is the one aspect he has in the series that everyone else doesn't.

Oscar would be weak too, but that's because he has no experience nor need to fight up until he joins the plot. But for Jaune, he would just be plain bad. He's bad at fighting even when he wants to be good, given his lineage, and that already creates a solid arc for him to work towards.

While Oscar would be fine with not being a fighter, it would be a source of a massive inferiority complex for Jaune, which totally checks out with how he behaves throughout Volume 1 and Jaunedice - sometimes even sabotaging himself because he's too stubborn to swallow his pride and admit he's weak and needs help, because a scion of a reputable Hunter family shouldn't be this weak.

As for his dynamic with the rest of the cast, knowing this, I'd probably make him incredibly weak, but also incredibly determined. While other characters can be determined too, Jaune would be so to an absurd amount, because he has to make up for his weakness with sheer will and persistence. If he falls down, he would get up more times than everyone else because he falls down more than everyone else. When faced with a problem, his natural inclination would just be to throw himself at it until either side yields.

This would be compatible with him having lots of Aura too. He's like a rock - uncomplicated in nature and immovable when it counts. Rather than make him a tactician, I'd make him the source of morale of the cast. People would be inspired by Jaune because even if he doesn't contribute much to a fight, he'll always be the last one standing; and seeing him would encourage the others to stand back up and continue fighting.
