#The flamed kitsune/fire flower
There were many things that Abbadon had found pleasant about the region he had found himself in. In between his intermittent jobs as a 'Ronin' as some of the locals had taken to referring to him, he found himself frequenting a tea house. It was here that he had struck up a conversation with a local flower merchant "So, do you find yourself selling a great number of flowers regularly? I've always been curious about that with flower shops."
"Hmmm, not as much now a days due to so many people coming and going. However, I do sell flowers and other things too but flowers are always a good thing." Misako, the flamed Kitsune and owner of the flower shop was looking at her cup but reaches to pick it up and take a sip.
"Though, flower shops do sell but it depends on what kind."

History
When Shinji was born, everyone assumed that he is the biological son of Shinjiro. Only later it will come out that Yamato is his true biological father. This fact will make Shinjiro his stepfather.
Shinjiro doesn't have a bad position in society. To maintain the good reputation he does everything possible and is very strict with the family.
However, Shinjiro wants an even better position. He hoped to achieve this through an arranged marriage. So he hates the fact that his firstborn is a boy and shows this openly. He treats Shinji badly and beats him for every possible reason.
When Shinji's sister Tamaki was born, she was the great hope. An engagement was immediately arranged for her.
Tamaki didn't want to marry someone who she didn't love. She rebelled and let herself be seduced by a vampire. When Shinji found out, he tried to save his sister. But he came too late.
Due to his grief and anger, Shinji attacked the vampire without thinking further. He was in a state of emotional emergency. Suddenly his green flames turned black and he was able to kill the vampire with ease. There were no witnesses to this result and Shinji became a little scared of himself. Out of fear of possible consequences, he hid the fact with the changed fire color. He kept this secret until today. No one knew about it except Yuuto.
Shinjiro blamed Shinji for Tamaki's death and said hurtful words to him: "Why did she die and not you? No one would miss you. You destroyed my hopes."
However, Shinjiro didn't want to give up and decided to have another daughter.
Shinji was disgusted by the thought and decided to stop Shinjiro's plan. Since he achieved nothing in the Yako Realm, he sneaked into the Human World and looked for a way to prevent a new pregnancy among the Zenko. Unfortunately, the Zenko didn't help him, but he found a small group of dropout Yako that sold him pills to prevent a pregnancy. When Shinji returned to the Demon World, he brought the pills to his mother. She agreed with Shinji's idea and has been taking the pills regularly ever since.
Since Natsumi didn't get pregnant Shinjiro looked for an alternative, but he didn't achieve anything.
A few years later and some time after Yuuto's escape, Shinjiro found a fool who made a deal with him. Without Shinji's consent, he arranged an engagement with his deal partner's daughter.
Like his sister, Shinji didn't want to marry someone who he didn't love. Desperate for a way out, he tried to run away, but Shinjiro was clever and prevented his escape to the Human World. Natsumi asked him to accept the engagement and get married. Reluctantly, he was willing to grant his mother's wish.
Frustrated about Shinjiro's latest plans and Yuuto's current serious relationship, he was looking for distraction and began a fling with a man. It turned out that his lover was his fiancée's brother. When his fiancée's father found out, he broke the engagement.
Shinjiro was so furious about the cancellation that he once again beat Shinji and then threw him out of the house and banished him from the Demon World.
In order to bring the pills to his mother, Shinji sneaked secretly into the Demon World every now and then.
He found a job in the Human World as a caretaker. His boss, the landlord of the apartment complex, allowed him to live in a small, old house which is nearby his workplace.
Due to struggling with his new life and because he felt lonely, Shinji lost control over energy snatching and became hooked to energy. He started to fight against the addiction and decided not to have any more sexual encounters with humans in the future.
When Shinji once again sneaked into the Demon World to bring his mother the pills, he was caught by Shinjiro. Now Shinjiro found out everything about the plan to prevent pregnancy and freaked out. He and a few other relatives beat up Shinji very badly. They threw him almost half-dead through a portal into the Human World and they threatened him with death if he dared to come back. Afraid of losing her son, Shinji's mother begged him to obey and never return. Badly injured, he managed to call Yuuto and ask for help.
After his recovery, Shinji made plans to save his mother. But again and again there were delays until the plan was perfect and could be executed.
During the planning phase, Shinji met Himiko. Because of Shinji's bad experience, the beginning of the relationship was almost over before it had even really started. But the two made it and are very happy now.
After the successful rescue of Natsumi, Shinji tried to give her a good start in her new life in freedom.
A while later, Shinji found out that Natsumi had a serious relationship before her marriage to Shinjiro. Since Shinjiro wanted to marry Natsumi at that time, he tricked Natsumi's boyfriend Yamato and caused his banishment from the Demon World. It turned out that Yamato is the head of the dropout Yako group. Now Shinji understood why Yamato was willing to help with the rescue of Natsumi. After all these years, the two can finally have a relationship and be happy.
Natsumi and Yamato were hesitant first, but then revealed that it's possible that Yamato is Shinji's biological father. Together they decided to find out the truth and took a DNA test. The test result confirmed that Yamato is Shinji's biological father.
Appearance
Shinji has orange-red hair and his eyes are amber-yellow.
He is tall and skinny. Still, he has a decent amount of muscles.
He has 3 ear piercings (2 on his left ear and 1 on his right ear). The stud earrings are a gift from his sister and he never takes them off.
Shinji's fur is orange-red. His tail tips, paws and his chest area is yellowish.
He has 3 tails.
His foxfire is green, but it can turn black.
Tumblr media
Personality
Actually, Shinji is rather soft but he doesn't show it. For this Shinjiro is partly to blame.
Shinji was a sensibel child and he liked to cuddle with his mother and sister. In Shinjiro's eyes cuddling and being soft were unmanly and a sign of weakness. So he ordered him to become harder and forbade him to cuddle.
However, Shinji couldn't change his nature and cuddled with his mother and sister secretly.
Since his childhood he pretends to be rough on the outside. But inside it looks different. He yearns for gentle affection.
Later he started to compensate the missing love and affection with the kick of energy snatching.
To this day he hasn't overcome the loss of his sister. That's why he developed a fear of losing someone. When Yuuto left the Demon World, he freaked out. It was only through the support of his mother that he could gathered himself and moved on.
He is a hothead.
Skills
Shinji can call and control his foxfire perfectly by will.
He has the rare skill that his fire changes color. However, he can't control this. It simply happens under intense feelings and emotional stress. With the altered flames, he is even able to kill vampires. The ability to change the color of fire was common among the very first Kitsune, no matter whether Yako or Zenko. Over centuries and with the circulation of the Kitsune, this characteristic was lost more and more. Only the heirs of the very first Kitsune's bloodline own it. However, not every of them who carries it is able to use it. Strong feelings and emotions are necessary triggers.
He can change his form partly or completely by will.
He can walk into dreams.
He can seperate his star pearl, but never does it.
Since his foxfire appeared Shinji trained very hard to impress Shinjiro and make him proud. However, Shinjiro didn't care about his skills and the amount of his tails.
Shinji can cook simple dishes that his mother taught him secretly.
He can dance.
He can draw, but never does it.
He is talented in crafts.
He can carve wood.
Relationships
Shinji made his first experiences with a man. With him he had a serious but short relationship. When he dropped his shell and showed his softer side, his first love broke up with him. He began to wonder if Shinjiro was right about unmanliness. So he decided not to show his soft side to anyone anymore.
Shinji told Yuuto what happened. Since that day Yuuto knows about Shinji's soft side but has never seen it.
When Shinji was heartbroken, Yuuto tried to distract him with buddy activities. Yuuto's caring is the reason why Shinji developed feelings for him.
Since Yuuto never showed that kind of interest and because he was afraid of being hurt again, he never told Yuuto about his feelings. Also, he wanted to protect the friendship.
After this experience, he had only flings and one-night stands. On the one hand because of what happened with his ex and on the other hand because of his feelings for Yuuto.
When he had chosen a sex partner he played the Big Bad Fox and showed no feelings except lust. Because of this he got involved with the wrong partners. But he couldn't see his mistake here.
Secretly, he yearned for gentle affection, cuddling and love.
After finding his true love Himiko, he made it difficult for himself. His past and experiences were to blame. It took him a while to understand what he was doing wrong. At the moment he finally opened his eyes, he dropped his shell and showed his true self.
Shinji is a very caring partner.
He is gentle and touchy and yearn for soft attention. At every possible opportunity he takes Himiko in his arms, kissing and stroking her lovingly.
But Shinji is also passionately. He likes to show that he wants Himiko and only her.
Unlike in the past when he was dominant, he is a switch now.
He likes gentle and rough sex.

Lady Higanbana
A solitary figure stood before a device that looked like a fountain that continued to flow with a mysterious goopy substance. It smelled of cheap candy. Every once and awhile a pair of black beady eyes would glare at the white haired woman.
Tumblr media
".....Shut up. You got what you deserved Nanami. Everything you could have ever wanted. A city without your father's gangs. Yuko sent to the flames of the Deep. Yet all you do is stare at me like your punishment for trying to kill me after the explosion is too cruel. You're still just an asshole."
The white haired witch moved aside and stepped to the balcony of her Tower of the Sun. Everything around once was Furuzeki, was nothing but ruins with massive fields of flowers growing around it. In the distance, an old looking Japanese city had sprung up.
Tumblr media
Lady Higabana then turned to face the molten Nanami. "I did the right thing. The only way to lift curses is to purify the land with fire. Don't act like I didn't move the population away before I let the city get destroyed in a flash of light. The world has been reborn...Just not what I was expecting."
The witch then flipped Nanami the bird and walked down a flight of stairs to wander around the fields of flowers she now tended. She then took notice of the strange blonde maid staring off into the distance. The now head of the defunct Perfection had been sitting there for days. Lady Higabana didn't want to listen to her anymore.
When Higabana walked past Alice, the girl stared into the distance. Her mind was broken and no longer composed like a proper British lady. She mumbled and muttered a lot these days.
Tumblr media
"There's no one around for miles. Do you really consider this to be Perfection? That's the purpose of magical girls...to create the perfect world under the eyes of Her..." Alice asked.
Tumblr media
"Maybe you should have thought more about what Perfection means to a human, Alice. I rooted out all the evil and created my perfect world. One without people to hurt my peers and laws to control the vices of magical girls." The witch stated.
Tumblr media
"This place is so boring. At least Camelia made something out of her flower kingdom. You're nothing but a gas station bargain bin version of my mentor. Nothing about your "world" is perfection. It is just an isolated kingdom in the middle of nowhere."
A kitsune dressed in red appeared. Her golden eyes staring at Alice. This was Guāng Liang, a Chinese fox spirit. She was Higabana's guard but often acted on her own will.
Tumblr media
"Do not insult, Lady Higanbana."
With one single swipe of her assassin's knife, Alice's neck had been sliced. The maid gasped for air. She lifted her hand up, before she collapsed.
"The deed is done, my Lady. She was annoying anyways. Not shutting up about the flower witch that tried to eat you." Guāng Liang said..
Tumblr media
"You really...Nevermind. You're a bandit. Sigh. I do wonder sometimes... Am I really cut out to be a queen for all spirits that wander the world? All I did was bring magic out and into the open. I never expected my flare to change the world...So much....I've heard that what remains of Tokyo is also asking me to govern them. Is this really the right path forward?"
Tumblr media
Guāng Liang smiled. "You over think, mistress. You made the world safe for magical beings. Not just magical girls. You deserve some credit. Don't let a past mistake haunt you forever. It ain't good for your health."

Amity (ao3) - thattumblrchick

21 thoughts I had today (ao3) - jestbee
Summary: Dan doesn't have a voice in his head.
It's just a malfunction, a lack of one thing or another in a complex series of firing synapses and chemicals, but it always sounds like words.
Believe in Me (ao3) - Elleberquist6
Summary: Dan Howell is living at home while he’s saving money for college, which isn’t easy since his parents don’t understand him. Unlike them, he loves dogs, is a vegetarian, has no interest in the family business, and he despises the supernatural. He struggles to accept things that are illogical, even though he is a kitsune. Kitsune are foxes whose powers involve the ability to cast illusions, but Dan just wants to be normal. Phil Lester has just moved to London, where he works as a dog walker. When his path crosses with Dan, Phil is eager to get to know him. Unfortunately, Phil soon finds that being friends with Dan is far more complicated than he could have imagined.
Bury Your Flame - botanistlester
Summary: (tw) After receiving a dragon egg when his grandfather passed away, Phil is forced to ask for help from the local dragon tamer. As he soon finds out, Dan Howell is nothing he’s been expecting. Infuriating, ludicrous, and completely lacking respect, Dan is everything Phil hates. But Phil will do anything to make his grandfather proud, even if that means getting help from the local cluck.
different eyes to see the same old things (ao3) - chickenfree
Summary: “Other side of the seesaw?” he says, when Phil’s still quiet. It doesn’t seem like a talking night, as much as Dan wants it to be.

Ten years later, the czar and his wife are dead and their older son is left to live with his grandmother in Paris; far from the new regime that wants the Lestovs dead. The young tsarevich Philip has gone missing while rumors fly of his survival. The dowager Empress has offered a reward, ten million rubles for her beloved grandsons return, a reward that does not go unnoticed by now conman Daniel Howlov and his close friend, former Duchess Cornelia. When they come across a man with no memories and a resemblance to the prince, the two hatch a plan. Followed closely by Kolya Petrov, an officer set on completing his fathers mission, and the mystic Rasputin, who wants nothing more than the death of the last Lestovs, they must journey to Paris with their fake prince. ≥ INCOMING TRANSMISSION FROM: @hellhunted_
Fingers slide along bodyguard's hair with a hum, green flames licking at their tips as she sits near volcano's edge and conjures a fire resistant bright red flower. ' It's nice when it's...just us, mm? ' a hum, handing him the flower.
Tumblr media
eyes fell closed with the gesture, enjoying the softness, the warmth that came with it. he'd not once felt cold in his entire life, but since meeting the kitsune, it had been just a tad warmer anyway. warm, like home. his own feet were submerged in the bubbling lava; she'd introduced him to this, and he wasn't disappointed. it was like rediscovering lost parts of himself.
blinking hues open, it was just in time to witness the magic happen. koharu was... very adept at such tricks, he'd learned— though her mother had only possessed the ability to create illusions, her father passed down the gift to conjure things corporeal. he was almost jealous of as much, as his own magic seemed to do nothing but destroy.
Tumblr media
" mhm, " a simple hum; once so loud and mouthy, whenever it was just them as per the fox's words, he turned far more docile. he wouldn't accept the gift, not yet, not until he'd shifted, pulling legs from the lava and sitting on his heels instead, turned to face the other. only then did he take the flower with clawed hands, but it was fleeting as he then simply chose to weave it it betwixt snowy locks, just above her ear. it looked better than way, he'd say. instead, different kinds of words have left his mouth: " it's always been just us to me. your family has been welcoming, but they'll never be my family, " he shrugged, half-hearted so as to show that it didn't bother him, " it's okay, though. i wouldn't have it any other way. Fluttering spirits
The little fox finds herself a little dazed in the mad rush of the building called the Butterfly estate. The building is large and traditional, stretching far behind the tall hedges and purple hanging blooms that spread a soothing sweet smell in the air. She wonders how they are in season since it is beginning to grow cold this far into the year.
Snow has yet to fall from the heavens and coat the earth in a blanket of white, and covering the land in its chill but the heat the flaming man still gave off makes her sweat beneath her clothes and want to run back outside to breath in the cool air.
The children were taken away to be treated along with the man- Rengoku as they call him, Purgatory, fire, A phoenix . She remembers tales of Suzaku from when she was a pup, curled up in her father's lap as he stroked the fire and brought it to life. She remembers the flames coiling with smoke and rising as a bird liberated and free before dissipating into wisps into the straw roof to disappear.
The blond child, Zenitsu hurriedly tells her to speak with the lady of the mansion as they may take some time to be ready to speak again but she assures him she's fine, but she realises she doesn’t know how to navigate the halls and quickly becomes lost.
More people dressed in black uniforms and veils move swiftly throughout the mansions as she walks. She wonders what kind of yokai they are, they sometimes smell of the forest and rain or of soft summer flowers that bloom in a meadow, whatever or whomever they may be they are rather kind.
She asks one of them if they can lead her to the lady of the estate and they point her in the direction of a young girl with deep blue hair pinned up in pigtails that reminds the fox of a lake she swam in last summer. The water was such a deep blue that she could just stare and admire its beauty all evening without a care in the world. She has three little girls gathering around her hips as she seems to file off things they should do as the fox approaches and introduces herself.
“Hello, sorry to bother you but I was told to speak to Kocho-san? Do you know where she is?”she says with a slight bow
The four of them stop to look at her and she smiles back taking note that they all wear butterflies in their hair but strangely the blue haired girl does not give off much of a scent that she can follow at all but when she speaks her voice echoes slightly, as if it’s being carried by the wind and it makes her wonder what kind of spirit she is.
“Oh, my name is Aoi and who might you be?”her expression is stern but her eyes sparkle at her appearance”Do you need help? I can treat your wounds if you’re in pain”
“No, no it’s fine there taken care of already”the fox assures her”My name is Dae”
The children smile up at her and introduce themselves as well but she notices from time to time their eyes flicker from the wall and back to her again. They must be curious about her shadow. Kitsune can hide their features behind human disguises but they cannot hide them in shadows or mirrors. Her tails swish back and forth on the wall but before them she is just a normal looking girl.
“You asked to see Kocho-san right?”Aoi asks after some time and Dae nods”I’ll take you to her”
She sends the girls away and Dae waves as they giggle and run off around the corner, they are cute little things wearing matching white dresses and smell like mochi powder. If she has the time maybe she’ll talk to them longer if she sees them again.
“Can I ask why you want to see her?”Aoi asks as they weave through the halls with ease and it makes Dae grateful that she found Aoi, she doesn't know how long it would take her to figure out the halls otherwise.
“Tanjiro-san had wanted me to impart my knowledge on spells and demons to help you all”Dae replies brushing her hands on her kimono as she walks, it has rips and tears and blood stains on the hem. It's the only one she owns and she didn’t have time to wash and mend it before she came here but it doesn't make her feel less self conscious about greeting people in it. It must be why Aoi asked if she needed help before, she had forgotten it was soiled.
“oh”Aoi turns to her surprised”spells even he hadn’t recognized?”
Dae laughs a little nervously and looks away, catching the sight of a tall man leaving a room in a haori with two patterns on it, one red and the other covered in yellow and green hexagons.
“Tomioka-san”Aoi greets”Do you have all that you need?”
He stops to bow to her as a reply and Dae briefly sees his deep blue eyes flick to her and back to Aoi in a quick motion. He smells like rain and the purple flowers out front she muses but the power he gives off from standing so close is a little bit stifling. He's a strong yokai she believes, to oppress his power this much but still carry himself so calmly and dignified.
“Yes”he answers short and curt”I’ll be on my way”
“Take care!”
Aoi stops in front of the room Tomioka-san just came from and knocks three times and a muffled voice calls out from inside.
“Shinobu-san, I’m sorry to interrupt but someone is here to see you”Dae trails behind Aoi as they enter and take in the warm outdoor feel of the room. It's crowded by plants and flowers that are blue, red and green. Books and papers are stacked on a table in a far corner, with a tray and teapot sits, still steaming and filling the air with the scent of what she recognises is magnolia tea. She spots more purple flowers and dried leaves and sticks on the table where the woman sits.
Her hair is charcoal black with purple tips and big deep purple hazed eyes. Dae is a little shocked at the big fluttering wings that protrude from her back, They are glass like with black spines crawling up the delicate purple butterfly wings pulled through a haori that looks so similar to them fading out into a soft baby pink and green.
“My, my come in then”she waves and smiles and Aoi bows and leaves apologising as she has to rush back to her duties.
“Kocho-san”Dae greets”My name is Dae, I am sorry for my appearance but I was told to come see you by Tanjiro-san. I would like to show you the spells I know and tell you anything I know about demons. I would like to do anything I can do to help”
“That sounds wonderful,”she says standing and making her way to the tea pot.”You don’t have to be so formal with me though, Shinobu is just fine. Please have a seat”
Dae sits on a spare stool in the room and watches the rainbow colours reflect through her wings as Shinohu-san pours them some tea so they get settled. She hopes that she can help make a difference, no matter how small.
Dae sips the warm tea as Shinobu settles on her chair nursing her own cup and gives her her full attention.
“Now tell me everything from the beginning”

💌 Name : Jes
💌 Pronouns : She/They
💌 Soulmate type : romantic soulmate. I wish to know who will understand me deeply, helping me through tough time, inspiring me to do and be my very best. My heart yearn for romance in my life but I was so afraid to get hurt again and having trust issues toward others. I know my own weakness or red flag, so I was curious if someone who willing to be with me. Teach me and encourage me to be my highest self. Someone who will help me to lift the burden in my heart. Not only as my romantic partner but can be my best friend too.
💌 concept of love : To me, love is a connection between the hearts and minds of people. Agape is one of my favourite type of love. The love is sacrificial and universal, a love that gives first and expects nothing in return. A love that you show to strangers, universe, friends and family. I think that one is the greatest love type ever. However, love can be dangerous to us when we become more obsessed with others while neglecting our self. It's like a flower, all of them are beautiful, but some of it are poisonous
🌷 take your time and remember to take care your health and energy. Stay blessed and stay happy 💖
Hello Jes! Thank you for joining Your Entwined Bonds! Here is your reading 💖
Tumblr media
Jes, your soul - the way she appeared to me - has smooth platinum white skin with traces of soft blush on her skin. Her energy reminded me of plum trees. She's smooth with her words, she's cunning. She looks like a work of art. She has a playful, taunting personality and melodious laughter. She reminded me of fox spirits like kitsunes. She likes to recline on her seat, sort of like her throne and play with her hair.
She resides at a place that looks white everywhere, it feels like a cave with its closed-in, resounding energy, however it also has the vibe of a forest but with no trees around. The place looks and feels like it's embedded in snow but the snow is not moving, every thing, every energy in this place is stationery. There is a quality of trapped air, as if time is frozen in space.
I asked if she could give me a peek of her energy. She showed me. Her core energy is close to original point energy, close to neutral. She takes the form of a kitsune because there was a kitsune past life that she feels particularly resonating with. Without the kitsune element your soul feels like a ball of fire and air, it's a misty translucent ball and the fire isn't in flames, but encapsulated in air.
Your Soul's Message To You
"Be careful with each step. Look properly don't try to jump or you'd end up falling. Remember and put advices to heart. Don't be forgetful. If someone's words feel important to you then they are. Don't forget your umbrella."
After your soul has imparted her message, I asked her if she could lead the way to your romantic soulmate. She said yes, and gestured front. I bowed deeply, and started to go the direction she pointed. I didn't have to walk far, in fact I barely moved and a man in his hunter outfit came with a purposeful air. His outfit looked like caveman outfit. I'd try to Google an image for you because I uhh suck at describing physical things.
Tumblr media
▲ The difference between his clothing and this picture is that there are animal stripes on his and he has a top that leaves his abdomen bare.
The man looked rugged, he had a bad of arrows on his back. He asked what's the matter, I then told him about you wishing to know more about him.
He has a deep voice, looks intimidating but appears to be a solid, honest, grounded fellow. He has light brown skin and long black hair. His energy is friendly; a gentle giant. He is aligned with wood element. He is more on the defensive side rather than combative, meaning he is not one to attack unless it's the last resort.
"Would you like to answer some questions?" I asked him.
"Yeah I would, just don't ask something too personal," he replied.
I told him if he doesn't want to answer some questions then he can choose not to.
Since this conversation progressed like an interview, my questions would be in highlight.
What makes you romantic soulmates with Jes?
"We go way back. Back when I was a troll in the forests and she was a nature spirit. We have always been supporting each other. It's like we were mated, or meant to be."
What do you remember the most about Jes in your past lives?
"Wouldn't judge, always kind. The kind to offer her shoulder to anyone especially her family (by family, he meant all friendly beings who reside in the same forest area). Very reliable. The girl I would risk anything for." He added that he wished to provide for you, tend to your every wish because you deserve it, because you make the world and his world a better place. You also reminded him of rainbows.
Did you know Jes in her kitsune past life?
"Yes, I was a hunter."
What was she like?
"Trickster, playful, would try to mess with you, loved to get too uncomfortably close to people, would play with their hair, flirty, made me scared, but has a good heart underneath but her morals and the way she expressed herself was very different from human standards. Liked to chill in the woods lazily, liked to observe and poke fun at passing humans, think humans are toys and very curious about them. Liked to play pranks on them like throwing small stones at them from on top of trees and playing hide and seek with them, like making them lost in the woods and rewalk the paths they have walked before."
What was your relationship with her like?
"To be honest she was just too otherworldly to me that I ended up very scared. She did seem to feel connected to me though, and I her. She visited me. We had the kind of relationship that's more than mortal. But I do not wish to clarify. She became more than just a friend. A friend till the days when we become old and part, till I tell my grandchildren about such a being existing. She was like, came out of storybooks altogether."
What are your favourite memories from your past lives with Jes?
“Honesty, promises, pinky promises that we will not part. Those are always sacred to me. I still find myself doing this, myself," he said and made a pinky promise gesture with both his hands. "Those promises never expire because we the persons making them are still around even though we have different faces in different bodies, our hearts are still around - beating. That's the essence of a promise, where even time stands still."
What are memories you believe Jes needs to remember from her past lives with you?
"I would say happy things but it's more than that. Her strengths, and whatever she needs to remember, that would be of benefit to her."
Can you describe the happy things you have shared?
"Us holding hands, exploring a small island by the beach. It was deserted so it was an adventure for us. We did that a day before our wedding day." I also saw a vision of you both in a food truck, you taking care of your baby beside him on the truck and he cooking. He had such a happy smile on his face. He felt like the luckiest man in the world because he got to provide for you and the baby.
"When we walk we are always together, there's no like one is a leader the other is a follower, no, we walk together, if anything, we trust each other and we discuss, we walk as one. There's no distance between us."
In your opinion, what are Jes's strengths?
"Her ability to see patterns. She can be analytical so she knows what's best for her. She knows the right steps forward, she's not easy to get lost. She's got a good sense of direction and a keen sense of where she should be going. I'm proud of her."
How would you guide Jes to become her highest self?
"Unlock the maze in her heart, guide her through things she should let go of, like the past, like the burdens, and what she should keep, like her heart, her original heart that's untainted. Teach her to wipe it clean, and teach her to treasure it, take care of it properly, remove the blemishes left by those who have hurt her, and make good, healthy, happy memories with her that would leave good happy smiles on her heart, happy wrinkles. Let it be a place of goodness again. And let her be known to herself once more as the best she could be.
"To be honest she would warm my heart whichever version she is, to me I see the one and the same person as I fell in love with. But if she's not happy with herself then I'm willing to be there and guide her through the storms one by one. I don't believe there's anything you can't brave through if you're brave enough. Just wear a sturdy jacket and brave through the rain."
Will you meet Jes as your present incarnation?
"Yes, definitely. I'm dying to meet her (pun intended). I'm crossing the (place where spirits have to cross sort of like a challenge in order to incarnate, like purgatory but not in the Christian atoning for sin way, this is more neutral where most ordinary spirits will go through) to meet her.
What's your current incarnation like?
He showed me a vision. The vibes I got from his current incarnation were wood, book, library and carpenter vibes. He's youngish, in his 20s but he looks much younger. Moderate stature. "I'm sorry I can't give away much. He's someone you'd deem honest at first sight, like there's this vibe of him being someone you could trust. Unless there are misunderstandings which happen quite a lot in his life lately. That's all I'm gonna say," he explained.
What's your message to Jes?
"I know it's hard but he truthful and true to yourself in every step you take. You are your own priority when it comes to healing yourself so you are the one whose feelings you must take full consideration of."
What are your parting words with Jes?
"Take good care of yourself, until the day we meet. I promise to sweep you off your feet. Take care now," he gave a two-finger salute (the touching his forehead kind), and off he went.

Iconic duos
[The domain]
Aether:Hyakukin Ikki, y’all know the drill.
Yunjin:Umm what’s happening?
Chongyun:Six teams of two are about to show off. It’s a fun way to show synergy and team combos. Think I’ll sit this one out.
Shenhe:You’ve participated?
Chongyun:Yeah. It very stressful, but fun. * sits down* Some of us are really big on formation names they call out and everything.
Yunjin:Ah, so that means-
Yoimiya:Hahahaha! Let’s do this!
Chongyun:*smiles* Truly a kid in a candy story.
Yoimiya:Hehe, you ready? Just like we practiced.
Ei:You needn’t worry. Just try to keep up.
Yoimiya:Ha! Let the festival begin!
Eternal Fireworks!
Bandits rush on to the scene! With the aid of stormy judgment, Yoimiya begins unleashing flame arrow after arrow. Left, right, even the rear, she pivoted in place to quickly take down her next target with overload; before unleashing her signature firework, marking a fatui. As it hit, lightning flashed as her Archon blew passed her with sword in hand. No one could react fast enough as the pryo marker bounced from bandit to bandit with explosive brilliance from Ei’s lethal strikes continuing the chain of overload. The duo smirked at one another through the chaos as their time ran out.
“Switch!”
Whirlpool Simulation!
Without hesitation, Sucrose appeared and unleashed her anemo hypostasis, gathering everyone. By her feet, Mona leaped out from water and casted her omen before both of them unleashing all their attacks at the groups of enemies that could not escape the wind. Not as flashy as the prior duo, but the damage and constant stream of enemies spoke for itself.
Mona:Splendid work.
Sucrose:All thanks to you.
“Switch!”
Hu Tao jumped onto the scene with Albedo in tow. A twirl of her staff brought flames while a quick movement brought butterflies fluttering by fallen foes that hit the ground where Albedo constantly brought isotomas into being no matter where Hu Tao darted off to. Giving what every funeral director needs. “Burial Ground!” The perfect waltz of life and death, all in a matter of seconds.
Hu Tao:Blood blossoms and geo flowers. Quite the devious garden we’ve made.
Albedo:And yet strangely beautiful as well. I’ve think we’ve set the stage. Time to go.
“Switch!”
Autumn leaves swirled around the two, replacing them with Kazuha and Yanfei. The wind intensified, blistering with flames that pulled his opponents to their location as he lept into the air. “Wind’s Veridict!” Yanfei erupted flames around her as Kazuha came crashing down to create a fiery domain of wind. Unable to escape, Yanfei unleashed seal after blazing seal down unto the clumps of enemies as her partner took a more direct approach. Keeping everyone at bay by bobbing and weaving around to pull them in for her.
Yanfei:Ooo fancy footwork.
Kazuha:Fancy moves for fancy flames. Thinks this is enough fire?
Yanfei:Looks good to me!
“Switch!”
Kazuha pulled them in one final time before whisking Yanfei away. A single frost flake arrows knocked out the pryo inflicted bunch, paving a way for Ganyu and Kokomi to reach the middle of what was about to be their personal battleground as dozens of thieves continued pouring in. “Glacial Impact!”Pristine waters paired with magnificent ice as Ganyu let her celestial shower rain down in the middle of Kokomi’s healing. The heated arena was completely transformed into a mini tundra as Ganyu took all the time she needed to place all her shots in the best place for max effectiveness.
Ganyu:Wow, this is actually working!
Kokomi:Never doubt a sound strategy!
Ganyu:Time to go?
Kokomi:In a moment. Let me give a helping hand. *douses enemies* Hehe, okay.
“Switch!”
A single bolt of lightning strikes the ground and from the blast emerges Keqing and Yae Miko. Electricity crackles on the water and their eyes glow a ghastly purple. The bandits try running. “Pragmatic Lightning”Keqing vanishes in a blink of an eye, slashing all within range while weaving around Miko’s thunderbolts. The Kitsune can’t help but be amused watching her partner zip around, going as far as to interfere with anyone getting close to either of them. It was a noble act but Miko honestly just didn’t feel like moving much. Between the turrets and Keqing’s speed, the entire ring was effectively within range.
Keqing:You okay!?
Miko:That’s my line. You know you can slow down just a smidge.
Keqing:Time is literally against us! If we don’t push ourselves then what’s the point? I can handle this.
Miko:Hmph, how do I always get paired with the stubborn and aggressive ones? Guess I attract them.
Three fatui appear right in front of Keqing but are immediately dealt with by four massive bolts of lightning. Keqing nearly jumps as Miko’s hand rests on her hand. Guess she felt like moving after all.
“Switch.”
Aether watches as Yoimiya and Ei return with excitement. He takes a seat with his friends and puts his feet up.
Chongyun:You think they know they’ve already reached the score for gold?
Aether:Eh, let them flex.

World Building Wednesday!~Yokaifell
🌼One of my personal favorites was chosen this week and I am so excited! It was a tie between Wiccafell and this and I just decided to do a little coin toss. I am happy to also announce that the ideas in Yokaifell will also be appearing in a more original form in the Souly Damned Universe. I will talk more about that on SD Saturday!
Tumblr media
Yokaifell AU
Yokai Masterlist:
[Red] Ryutsuki (Ryou) 龍月- Kitsune (Kitsune Ebi- Shou & Rin)
Tumblr media
[Boss] Kuro  黒- Gashadokuro
Tumblr media
Doomfanger- Maneki neko (a variation of the bakeneko this kind brings good luck and fortune which I thought would be cute for the brothers. Hilariously Doomy was with Boss before he died coughs. Doomy is kind of like that cricket in Mulan supposed to be lucky but... questionable.)
Flowey: I am unsure if I am planning on putting Flowey in this or just have him as Asriel. Either way, he would most likely resemble the higanbana. These are also Red’s flower of choice, which is…ironic if you know the language of flowers.
The Dreemurrs: (this is a hard one. There are no Yokai as far as I can recall that are goat like, however there are some good candidates that could work. I have a few in mind right now and that is the kotobuki, hakutaku, shisa, Kirin or even the baku.
Undyne: Uni nyobo
Alphys: Honengyo (This is kind of the “Godzilla” idea she would just be mini XD)
Muffet: Jorogumo
Grillby: Onibi (this is a strange one because he would have to be a combination of onibi for this to work but don’t worry I am on it!)
Tumblr media
Gerson: Kappa/ Genbu (due to his wisdom)
*{The lesser monsters would be a variation of yokai not exactly pertaining to their UT counterparts unless I can make that connection. The Underground/ Underworld, in this case, it basically the spirit realm so it’s not really necessary. They are not exactly trapped like in the original.}*
Tumblr media
Main Plot Synop:   Frisk is a foreigner trying to start a new life across the world in Japan. I am still trying to pick a possible location in Japan but that is a minor detail. I will say that I would like it to be a little more secluded. It is also modern day (I settled on Izumo). The people she moves to live among tell Frisk of their traditions and stories but her being from the West she has a hard time understanding. Frisk is told not to stay out too late and wander the nearby forest but hey who listens to reason? She ends up getting lost, alone, and afraid. That is until a series of flame like lights presumably show her the way back to the town. This happens a few times but she becomes more and more curious by them until they lead her deeper into the forest. She comes upon the entrance of an abandoned shrine stopping before a Torii Gate as the lights disappear. These are kitsunebi by the way. Only when she is hesitant to pass through it do they appear on the opposite side.
She ends up being startled by a white haired human that seems to have just appeared out of thin air. He tries to speak to her but she barely understands the language if only a few words. In frustration the stranger steals a kiss from the shell shocked human girl only for her to suddenly be able to understand what he is saying. A still highly confused Frisk ends up learning that he is in fact a demon or rather her interpretation since she is from the West.
It turns out that in order to give her the ability for her to understand him a dose of his magic was required changing the physical makeup of her soul causing it to become desirable to other hungry yokai that roam both the spirit realm as well as the night. Not believing his claim and rather angry at his sudden advance she storms off heading back toward the village. She begins to see more than she should as spirits appear out of the woodwork.
An oni appears in front of her ready to devour the poor unsuspecting human in which she ends up running back to the gate in order to avoid the giant monster. At first Ryou is not interested in saving the human girl but it is his fault that she has ended up in this situation. He saves her but not before she ends up accidentally running through the Torii Gate attempting to dodge an attack. The beast follows and Frisk ends up trapped in the spirit realm when the monster destroys the gateway. Kuro, Ryou’s older brother makes quick work of the beast.
The rest of the story revolves around Frisk trying to return home which requires a journey since a human does not belong in their realm and the gate to “leave” is on the opposite side of the realm. It is incredibly dangerous for someone like her to be there so she ends up in disguise with the help of Grillby and Ryou. Ryou is a kitsune so he is able to create the perfect disguise adding more magic to her soul to fool it into becoming a yokai temporarily. He is surprised to find she is the same kind as him, a kitsune.
Tumblr media
Their journey takes them all the way across the spirit realm to find another gate and on the way they run into a colorful cast of characters. Some are helpful spirits. Others are man eating demons that are looking for a delicious human soul to devour. At first Frisk is content staying with the brothers but a human does not belong in their realm and that causes complications.
Tumblr media
Yokai Lore/ Spirit Realm world:
The spirit realm is a dangerous place that few humans have ever set their eyes on. It the world between. A space that is home to various yokai. Humans cannot naturally see spirits as the modern setting has diminished the humans that still believe in them. They are not trapped but rather there is a hierarchy that is established. The more powerful the yokai the more they are able to interact with the human realm.
Hierarchy brief explanation (restrictions and interactions):
Servants of the gods- Yokai that can interact with the human world during the day or whenever they see fit. They are messengers for their respective deities. They are not known to be troublesome or mischievous.
Kitsune- A more rare type of yokai that can shift its appearance at will but mostly represented by that of a multi tailed fox. Some of them are servants of the gods but those who have no alignment can walk among the living during the day for a duration of time. When the night comes they can walk freely and interact with humans as they see fit. They are mostly known for luring humans away with kitsune ebi or fox fire.
“Boss” Yokai- Yokai gain their status by either specific species or their prestige. That can either be obtained by LV gain or doing favors for the gods. Some are hostile and some are passive it depends on the encounter. They can walk freely during the night without hindrance but unlike the two prior they cannot take form during the day.
“Lesser?” Yokai- Yokai that are relatively weak and unable to hold a physical form in the human realm. They can move objects and possibly possess humans but they have no ability to interact on a substantial level. They can be seen by some humans as little dancing and vanishing lights. They can rarely pass the barrier as is.
Lost souls- Lost spirits that wander between realms. They cannot interact with humans but can be seen from time to time. They are what the west consider the typical ghost.
Tumblr media
Human Struggles Info {Plot}:
A human does not belong in their realm which also means that the world is also an enemy. The power of the soul plays a huge factor in this as weak souls are more susceptible to the world influence. There are three different outcomes that are possible for a human if they end up trapped in the spirit realm.
Dinner is served-  A large number of yokai are known for their man eating tendencies finding human souls and flesh a kind of delicacy. Some are beasts that kill for pleasure but humans worst outcome is being eaten or killed.
You’re one of us now- A strong human soul slowly can be changed. The soul decides what kind of yokai that humans can become or will become. It is entirely possible that most of the yokai were once human but it is unknown. They are usually lesser yokai or spirits.
Lost soul- What the title implies. A soul unable to remember who they were. They wander for the rest of eternity searching for answers they will never receive. They are miserable creatures that pull others into their fate. Their depression is infectious and anyone already questioning themselves could easily find themselves among their ranks. They are not malicious only confused and desperate.
Symptoms of becoming a Lost Soul:
Confusion
Memory loss
Random emotional outburst/response
Physical weakness/fatigue
Relationship {Plot}:
Ryou and Frisk become close for a reason that they are both unsure about. They could be soul mates or his magic that is embedded in her soul begins to spread making her have feelings for him. Either way her love for him never wavers. A human can never fall in love with a yokai. It is not only forbidden but also very dangerous. *whoops* Their soul bond only grows stronger as their outward feelings increase. They spend the night together not understanding the consequences of that kind of action.
Unfortunately, Frisk begins to show symptoms that her soul is not powerful enough for this world and she begins to lose herself and forget. In desperation Ryou and Kuro make the decision to travel all the way to the end of realm to get her back to the human realm. When they get there she has a choice. She can stay and become a lost soul for the rest of eternity or leave and forget everything about them. Since Ryou and Frisk are soul bound she would feel a loneliness for the rest of her life unable to understand why. It is like losing a part of yourself. It hurts but she chooses the second option returning to the human world a little bit changed from before.

(spoilers ahhhhead)
Epilogue {Plot}:
Though Frisk has forgotten about her soul mate and her time spent in the spirit realm she still has these feelings. She finds herself spending more and more time peacefully sitting by the gate or in the forests surrounding her home. It is calming and peaceful for her. What is even more curious is her new condition. She finds out by some miraculous way (not really she just doesn’t remember) that she is pregnant. When she has her children she finds them as normal children for the longest time until they turn 10. They start seeing things that they shouldn’t including dancing among little fire like lights that she swears she has seen before. She could swear she sometimes sees little fox creatures dancing in the flames. A trick of the light...right?
Frisk doesn’t know but Ryou’s ability to walk in the human realm has him visiting his children and her even though she is unable to see him any longer. Sometimes she wakes up in the middle of the night feeling like someone is there. A kind of warmth that she leaves her feeling cold when it’s gone. Her two children begin to show physical signs of being yokai including little fox ears and tails which she does not seem to question. It feels right to her for some inexplicable reason. Her children eventually see their father through the gate one day and Frisk is hesitant to step through it (for obvious reasons). She follows her children only to leave the human world behind once more meeting a stranger that to her is not so strange. Her memory slowly returns his Ryou’s help and they live happily together with their kids. It turns out that giving birth to two yokai children strengthened her soul from before giving her the ability to stay and become a yokai herself. As before she becomes a kitsune.

A streak of the new highway is planned to cut through your favourite part of the forest, the one you walk through when heading east to the river kappas inhabit. First trees have already fallen. You caress the bark of the mighty maple that once touched the sky and now lays at your feet, cut and bleeding from the wounds humans inflicted. You still remember when it was a sprout pushing roots into earth and hungrily reaching for the sun rays. Half a century later you fell asleep under its shade and hid in his branches from those chasing you. Why is this how you say goodbye?
Forest spirits peek out of their hiding places, their terrified chimes fill the air. They cling to you, your clothes, your tails. Some you have to convince to leave the branches of the fallen trees, the hollows in their barks that have offered them sanctuary for so many long years. They cry in pain.
And pain has a way of turning into anger.
It's searing and all consuming, spreading through your body as bright blue flames shoot from your hands. They burn all standing in their path. Equipment of workers, their machines and their boxes of metal go up in flames. Truck standing by the fence catches on fire. You transform back into your fox form, running away as it explodes with a bang echoing through the night.
Tumblr media
It's a lonely existence, being a kitsune. With years most of your kind have hidden in the forest, many have moved to cities living together with humans, pretending to be them. As if they could ever be. You hold a bit of pity for them but mostly you just don't understand. Why do they go where humans live? Why do they want to live as humans live? Humans are interesting and fun to observe, that much you never denied, but they are also cruel and blind and they drove so many of your kind away. Empty lairs is all they leave behind.
You water the flowers around the temple as you do every morning before heading to bed. From your pocket a forest spirit you've rescued from one of the fallen trees peeks out. Morning sun makes it blink and rattle in confusion. None of your words reassure it so you leave the matter be. It needs time. Time to breathe and time to heal. As you pull out some weeds from between the cobble stones it watches and chimes, sorrowfully.
“I can't say.“ Weeds in your hands catch aflame and whither. You lay them down on the black soil. “We will find you a nicer home. There is a beautiful cherry blossom tree growing by the entrance. Would you like that?“ It gives a soft chime. “We can have a look at it later, alright? Careful!“ you catch it on your outstretched palm. “Stay with me, I'm almost finished with my duties. Do you have a name? Ah I see,“ you nod when it chimes. “How about I call you Koda? Would you like that? Now make sure not to fall off again, alright?“ You help it climb on your shoulder.
Koda turns it's head in all directions taking in the sight. It's probably its first time seeing anything but endless sky and branches. Not that the temple is anything special. It's small, with only two wooden buildings in need of repair and pond you hold particularly dear. No ducks live near it. You brought a pair once in hopes they'd have ducklings to keep you company but sadly before a month passed they became dinner to passing yokai. Ever since the only ducks at the temple are the ones on the edges of the roof.
Surrounding trees grow closely together, casting long shadows over the roofs and the small yard. In their shade a steep staircase leads towards the entrance of the temple. Every morning and every evening you sweep the leaves from the stairs, picking up and keeping the ones you find particularly beautiful. The golden, the deep crimson, and bright green, ones sprouting first when spring arrives, are your favourite. Moss has overgrown most of the steps. Koda chimes for you to put it on it and it sits on the soft green blanket seeming calm for the first time. Its home was taken but what said it couldn't make a new one here, with you? The temple has been your home for as long as you can remember and you doubt you'll ever know any other.
Your new friend still watches in amazement (At least you think it's amazement. Even you find spirits' expressions hard to read) and when you return to check on offerings you consider waking Chochin to help you reassure it. After a short consideration you decide against the idea. The stillness of the early morning is your favourite part of the day after all and you'll hear from your possessed lantern before noon rolls around anyway. Besides Chochin would only scare already rattled Koda. You'd like to spare the spirit further shocks, at least for a while. Luckily most days the temple grounds stand deserted. With each passing year less and less humans come to pay their respect to Inari. Less and less fields are to be found in the area so it's no wonder they forget how much depends on good harvest. They take it for granted and they forget. If centuries have thought you anything is that humans are incredibly good at forgetting.
You're just about to sweep the two fox statues by the entrance when you catch the sound of approaching steps. One person. Must be an early riser. You make your tails disappear and straighten the sleeves of your hoodie before instructing Koda to hide.
A young man steps through the tori gate. He's tall and lanky, a beanpole with dark hair. Most people pant and heave for air when reaching the top. He looks like he just took a pleasant stroll in the park. He takes in his surroundings then walks over to you. “Good morning,“ he greets with a polite smile that doesn't quite reach his slanted eyes.
There's an aura surrounding him. You can tell he's the kind of man people take a second glance at when passing him by. If you asked them why they'd give you a confused look. “I, I have no idea,“ they'd answer, “There was... something.“ If you asked them an hour later they'd be even more confused because they have already forgotten about him. But he is the kind of a man who wants to be forgotten. How else would he hunt yokai in peace?
“Morning,“ you return the pleasantries. Koda in your pockets shivers.
“I'd like to pay my respects. Can I offer alone or-?“ If he's embarrassed by being unsure of how to proceed you can't tell it from his face. You show him to the temple and excuse yourself, aware of how his eyes follow you as you walk across the small courtyard. You don't want him here. But you can't deny him entry.
He doesn't scare you. He's as green as sprouting grass, too young to have any real experience. He probably only recently accepted yokai are real and not just a folktale used to scare children. You might be the first he'd ever meet. At least one that isn't harmless. Still there is something about his calm voice and bored expression that keeps you alerted.
Koda peeks out of your pocket and chimes, worriedly. “We'll see,“ you murmur in response and head over to the pond. It's so empty. Should you get some koi fish? Or would they all too soon become dinner too? Many of those yokai who remain are growing hungrier. Wilder. Hearing approaching footsteps you wonder if that is what brought Mr Witch to your humble abode.
“I've heard there's a kitsune living around here.“
You straighten and turn to face the unwelcome visitor. Was someone else in your shoes they'd act smart and deny their nature. But you can tell he isn't asking. He's just confirming what he already knows. “There is.“
Visibly taken aback he hesitates. “Is it you?“
“I am.“ You don't like his eyes. They are too fox-like.
He bows politely. “I'm Suna Rintarou.“
“Good for you.“
He ignores the poison in your voice. “News of someone destroying the construction site has reached Inarizaki Clan.“ Ah, that explains the lack of fear. If he's here with the backing of a clan naturally he'd feel secure enough to directly challenge you. “I was sent to let the ones responsible know their efforts are meaningless. The road will be built no matter what you- What they do.“
“Ask? Your kind doesn't ask.“
“This might be the one for history books then.“ His face irks you. There's no fear, no nerves showing, no twitch of his mouth or fingers to betray what he's thinking. Humans are as easy to read as open books but the young man in front of you is a blank sheet of paper.
“Leave,“ is all you answer.
To your surprise he bows and obeys. Watching him leave you think he should straighten up.
As the sun rises higher you head to bed, newcomer so heavy on your mind he haunts your dreams. The sole presence of a yokai hunter is something to be worried about. First one comes, then a second, next your kind is being chased away. The only reason you're still here is because the humans can't seem to figure out a way to chase you away for good. Not that they haven't tried. If only they knew worst things live deep in the woods.
When evening falls you sweep the stairs and leave still rattled Koda besides Chochin who disapprovingly rolls it's one eye at you.
The town is only a short run away. It's small, at least you think so since there aren't many you've visited in your relatively short life. You know every nook and cranny, you know which tombstones are nekomata's favourite, you know which of the old street cats will soon join them. They can be a handful but they're the closest thing to friends you have. You pass the old house where teenagers like to gather. Its cellar has been home to keukegen for years now. You catch a glimpse of a few leaving. No doubt the fault of that damn visitor.
The place he's staying at is easy to find. How careless of him. All you have to do is follow the magic of protective charms scattered across the town back to its source. They're sloppy. Almost as if a child made them. But some of them are particularly well made. Work of another clan member perhaps?
You hide in the bushes of the garden surrounding a small house. Mr Witch left the sliding door open. Even in the garden you smell herbs meant to ward away evil spirits. He's sitting on the floor and watching a curious looking thin screen similar to ones you've seen down at the train station. He seems disinterested. When he stands up and leaves the room you silently creep closer to peek inside. The smell of herbs is stronger here. You don't find it unpleasant though many of your yokai friends would disagree.
On the screen you see a map of the town. More maps lay on the low table. Some have scribbles you can't quite read, arrows, and question marks. You hear him returning and scurry back in the safe embrace of darkness and bushes. He sits back down to continue his work, not noticing you were in his home. You lean your head on your paws and watch.
Tumblr media
Following Suna around becomes a daily routine. You sweep the stairs in the morning and water the flowers then run the fastest your legs can carry you to the town. Luckily for you he likes sleeping in. His days are uneventful. Boring to be honest. He eats breakfast. Goes to town. Looks at historical monuments downtown. Sits on the only bench in the park and eats ice cream. Heads to library. From time to time he visits the construction site to inquire if there have been any more incidents. There were a few but none of them were your doing. Mr Witch doesn't actually think you're the only one enraged by the new road, does he? Honestly as much as you detest it you're also a little relieved humans haven't decided to build over the northern part of the forest. That would be a lot more troublesome.
You follow on a safe distance as he inspects the surrounding trees, no doubt to chase away the remaining forest spirits. For a very long time he inspects some footprints. You carefully step closer trying to see what caught his attention. Suddenly he stands up and continues on his way. As you follow you glance at the ground. Ah, of course.
He heads back to town after that, returns home and you return to your spot in the bushes. Sun hasn't set yet,  the day is still warm so he brings a low table out on the porch and pours two glasses of dark bubbly liquid.
“Are you going to keep hiding or will you join me for a drink? I have some tofu I can fry if you want. Kitsune like it, right?“ he asks without looking in your direction.
Crap. Well, no point in trying to be sneaky anymore. You step out, head raised high and your tails gracefully swaying with each step. A silver gem radiating light balances on the middle one. Once you reach porch you shapeshift to a human and hide the gem from Suna's eyes. You don't bother hiding the tails though and you take a sit across from him, carefully eyeing and sniffing the contents of the glass.
“Only three tails?“
“Are you judging my age?“
“Sorry. I didn't mean to be rude.“ That's not what his face says. “Thank you for leaving the construction site be,“ he chats on seemingly unbothered by your icy glare. “You must've noticed those footprints too, right? Have any idea where I might find the owner?“
“That sounds like your job Mr Witch.“
“It's Suna actually.“ He keeps talking like you're old acquaintances and it's making your blood boil. “Can I ask for your name? Don't want to call you Miss Kitsune.“
“Why are you here?“
Suna gulps down half of his drink before answering. “To make sure construction continues without any accidents. You seem to think yourself some kind of a yokai protector. Then I'm a protector of humans.“
You bark a laugh. “As if your kind needs protecting.“
“All the people getting sick from those keukegen would disagree.“
“Sounds like it's their fault for not staying away from infested places,“ you retort.
“Then one easy fix would be getting rid of those infested places.“
“An undertaking you have no doubt already started.“
“I'm just doing my job.“
“You can't chase them away for long you know. Your kind has tried before. They always come back.“
You've hoped your words would elicit a response from him. Anything. A trace of frustration, an arrogant grin. Suna pours himself another glass. “Do you want some ice?“
“What I would very much like is for you to leave.“
A grin flashes over his face. “Get used to my presence because I won't go away for a very long time.“
So this is how he wants to play. He isn't the tiniest bit alerted when you abruptly stand up. “We'll see.“
Tumblr media
Your daily routine continues. The only difference is you no longer care to hide. Wherever Suna goes you're not far behind. He wants to stay, play the protector of humans, does he? Pathetic. He doesn't seem to be bothered by you following him around. Just slightly unimpressed. It makes you want to set his pants on fire. Just to get a reaction. Just to see his expression change.
“How long do you plan on following me?“
“Who says I'm following you? World doesn't revolve around you Mr Witch. Maybe I just wanted to buy myself some mochi. Have you considered that?“ You pretend to be interested in melons on the shelf. “Aren't these kind of expensive?“
Suna ignores your question. “I'm grocery shopping. There are no yokai here. And I haven't even harmed anyone.“
“Yet. Such a short word. Yet. Somebody has to keep an eye on your nasty tricks.“ You peek into his shopping cart. “Instant ramen and crab chips? Even I know humans need some you know,“ you wave your hand trying to remember what it's called but the word is buried too deep in your memory, “healthy food!“ you say instead and place the most expensive melon in the cart. “Like fruit for example.“
“Put it back.“
“It's healthy.“
“It's expensive.“
“I got money.“ You pull a bundle of bank notes from your pocket.
He puts the melon back on the shelf and grabs the cart with more force than necessary. You hum contently before putting the money in your pocket where it changes back to leaves you picked up last autumn.
The sheer number of different products on the shelves amazes you. And also makes you a little sad. All the offering humans bring to the temple are just rice and tofu and sometimes curry. Not that you don't like rice and tofu but why can't they bring one of all these colourful sweets? Or the chips Suna just put in the cart. Would he notice if one of the bags disappeared?
Walking past the vegetable stand you grab three cucumber packages and plop them down in his cart. You notice he added a bag of brown rice to it.
“Really? Three packages?“ he asks.
“They're a gift for kappas up the stream,“ you smile, innocently.
“Buy them yourself. You got money, don't you?”
“Why, would you like some? What's the matter Mr Witch, job doesn't pay well? Maybe you should consider a career that doesn't rely on destroying our lives.“
“Maybe you should live a life that doesn't harm others.“
You grin, satisfied. And so facade begins to crumble. A loud cough distracts you from throwing back another insult. An older man gives the two of you a disapproving look before returning to reading labels.
Suna grabs the cart and continues his way to the next item on the crumpled shopping list. You trail behind looking like a lost puppy peeking from behind him to see what the next item on the list is, adding new items to the cart Suna immediately puts back in their place. Even by the register you add one more package of chewing gum to the pile.
“At least take one with a fruity flavour,“ says Suna so you grab two more packages with watermelon on them. You think you see his eye twitch though it might be just your imagination. While he puts the groceries in a bag you snatch a chocolate bar from the nearest shelf, then follow him outside to take the cucumbers from the bag he's holding.
“You've been quite busy yesterday,“ you remark as you walk down the street.
“Since you followed me around the entire time I take it you weren't.“ He outstretches his hand. “Your stuff was 700 yen. Pay up.“
You give him a crumbled wrapper.
“Any particular reason you're interested in the old Nishikawa house?“ you ask, continuing to smile innocently when Suna glares at you and puts the wrapper in his pocket.
“I thought you were the local expert on all things paranormal in this town. I'll let you guess twice.“ He peels the sticker off the bananas and sticks it on your forehead. “See you around Miss Kitsune.“

Not an End
A Mitsuhide Akechi story - this scene takes place at about the midpoint of Ch. 10. Approx. 1700 words.
First: Mitsuhide and the Maiden
Previous: Loyalty
The battle was brutal. In the uncertain light of flickering torches and flaming arrows, colors bled to grey. It was impossible to tell who struggled against whom. Men shouted, screamed, and died. Blood mixed with ash and others pushed forward to continue the struggle. Mitsuhide did his best to keep his little one from the thick of it, but there was no clear path.
He fought when they had to, his sword arm stronger than it had any right to be. His heart beat with ferocity. Not to win, but to protect. Mitsuhide did not note the faces of the men that fell to his blade, but part of him mourned the innocence his beloved lost with each death she witnessed.
Then out of the smoke, like a spirit, a shape took form. Beauty and grace out of place in the landscape of savage violence. Yoshimoto.
Mitsuhide knew the leader of the Imagawa was here and yet . . . he’d hoped to avoid him. Yoshimoto’s quest for an honorable end was not a part of his plan, nor any concern if his. He respected the man’s desire to end his struggle even if he didn’t understand the feelings that motivated the young warlord.
Yoshimoto didn’t even seem to notice Mitsuhide. His eyes found the chatelaine and fixed on her with an unexpected passion. “I was hoping I would meet you again in more pleasant circumstances.”
“Me too.” She stepped out from behind Mitsuhide, smiling.
He felt a surge of irrational anger. A desire to lash out. He contained it, left it simmering behind his own smile. “The tides of battle have turned against you. I suggest you and your vassals stand down, Imagawa.”
Yoshimoto’s lips turned up in a ghost of a grin as he finally focused on Mitsuhide. “I am truly impressed by this plan of yours, Silver Kitsunde. You have truly earned the sobriquet.” The flower of the Imagawa drew his sword anew, steel ringing clear of its sheath. “I thank you for the advice, but sadly . . . I cannot withdraw. That choice has never been mine.” His lips firmed into a thin line, his jaw hard. “Everything has led to this moment. The moment it all ends.”
Mitsuhide wan’t sure he could win against Yoshimoto. Not in his current state. And yet, fate had set his path here. Loss was not an option for him, any more than retreat for his opponent. He readied his blade.
Yoshimoto struck.
This was nothing like the fight with Masamune. The one-eyed tiger was ferocious, single-minded, and bloodthirsty. With Yoshimoto, the battle was art. Each move, choreographed. Perfect. This was the strength of the Imagawa. Deadly beauty.
It took all of Mitsuhide’s skill to keep up. Predicting his opponent by understanding the steps of this dance. The rapid strikes shook his bones and sent tremors through his tired muscles. Yet he could sense in Yoshimoto the beginnings of an end. His eyes begged Mitsuhide to finish this fight. To give him a good death.
Mitsuhide readied himself. There was no need to ask why. The Imagawa clan would never yield so long as Yoshimoto lived. The young warlord was a symbol. An excuse to fight on no matter the odds. If he fell . . . they would give up, finally. Mitsuhide knew Yoshimoto’s next move. It would be simple to change his defense to an offense. To slide his blade between Imagawa’s ribs. Straight through his heart.
“No! You can’t” The chatelaine threw herself between the combatants. “Yoshimoto! Run! Live!” She turned to face Yoshimoto. “Go and live for yourself. Think of your family!”
She didn’t understand. Mitsuhide felt a pang of sadness for his little one. She was so vulnerable. So naive. His blade stopped misdwin and he lowered it to his side.
“My . . . family?” Yoshimoto sounded as puzzled as Mitsuhide felt.
She held a hand out to him, as if to touch his cheek. “Sasuke and Yukimura are still looking for you. Everyone in Echigo is waiting for you to come home.”
Mitsuhide felt a surge of jealousy. His precious little one, speaking so passionately to another man - even if only to convince him to live - stirred a poison in the kitsune warlord’s veins.
“Yoshimoto . . . your life is precious. Too precious to throw away for bloodlines and clan responsibilities. It’s your one and only life.” The chatelaine put her hand atop Yoshimoto’s, her pale fingers brushing his ash and bloodstained grip.
“I -”
Mitsuhide grabbed his little mouse by the arm, pulling her back, out of harms’ way. And out of Yoshimoto’s reach. “Are you shielding an enemy, little one?”
“He’s not an enemy,” she protested.
Both a true and untrue statement, Mitsuhide thought. He wanted to explain to her why the Imagawa warlord must die. But the look in her eyes . . . full of belief in him. Trust that Mitsuhide would never harm someone she called a friend. Though he knew - absolutely knew - that killing Yoshimoto was the wisest path, he found that he could not do so.
Mitsuhide met Yoshimoto’s gaze over the top of the chatelaine’s head. An understanding passed between them. Neither wanted to be the man that made her cry. “You will go, Yoshimoto Imagawa. Take your vassals and leave.”
Yoshimoto nodded. “I will withdraw.” He gave an elegant bow which the chatelaine caught as she turned her head to face him.
As Yoshimoto sheathed his blade, the Imagawa vassals shouted in a mix of anger and disappointment. “If you will not fight,” they cried, “then we will die for the honor of the Imagawa tonight.”
It seemed, Mitsuhide thought, that his mercy was misplaced. Regardless of what he would prefer, he did not think he could avoid slaughtering the fractious warriors of the fallen Imagawa. There would be tears from his little one later, he thought. But he could live with that as long as she was alive to cry them.
But before anyone could begin to fight again, Yoshimoto’s voice rang out. It lacked his usual soft cadence. Now it cracked with fierce anger. A heat that Mitsuhide had not thought the Imagawa warlord possessed. “There is no honor in death! Choosing to die here is a betrayal of all the ideals you claim to stand for.” In a quieter voice he added. “As I have only just realized.”
He leaned forward, far too close for Mitsuhide’s comfort, and spoke to the chatelaine. “I want to thank you. And . . . I hope we get the chance to meet again.”  Yoshimoto lifted a lock of the chatelaine’s hair and pressed it to his lips in farewell.
“And I do not.” Mitsuhide pulled his little one behind him, away from the passionate eyes of this Imagawa upstart. He was beginning to regret not killing Yoshimoto.
Yoshimoto smiled. “Be well.” Then he led his vassals out of the fight, rallying them around him with an aura of command that he had not shown before. They were soon lost in the chaos and darkness.
Mitsuhide scanned what he could of the battlefield. Most of the shogun’s forces were routed. Crushed between Masamune’s warriors and Hideyoshi’s defenses. He found a good position and waited for the fight to end.
It was Hideyoshi that came to them. His face was splattered with blood and filth. His eyes were bright with victory. “It’s over. We won.”
Masamune’s troops were tying up survivors and putting out fire. The monks of Honno-ji were attending to the wounded and gathering the dead. It was, Mitsuhide thought, a better win than most. Even if his quarry survived. That only meant the hunt was not done. He had yet more to do.
Mitsuhide took a step toward Hideyoshi, intent on wrapping up this goodbye before Hideyoshi turned his mother-hen instincts full on. But his legs didn’t seem willing to move forward and his arms felt heavy as lead. He stood there feeling dumb and slow as Masamune approached alongside Nobunaga.
“Mitsu . . .” His little mouse clung to his arm, almost as if she knew the thoughts that raced through his mind.
“You’ve done well. All of you.” Nobunaga smiled as he approached.
“Thank you my lord,” the three of them said in unison.
Mitsuhide watched Masamune warily. It was entirely possible the one-eyed tiger still meant to fight him. “You took longer than I expected to catch up to me.”
“That’s all you’ve got to say?” Masamune rested a hand on his hilt. A threat, though not an immediate one. “Pfft. I was late because Ieyasu and Mitsunari couldn’t stop squabbling over who would accompany me. I told ‘em they could keep each other company in Azuchi.” His one eye narrowed with anger. “You’re lucky I didn’t hand your ass to my troops after our little . . . chat . . . in the rain.”
“I am grateful,” Mitsuhide began. He had a witty comment to make. He was sure of it. But whatever it had been was gone. “I - I am grateful to you. To Nobunaga. And, and to Hideyoshi.” He put an arm around his little one’s shoulders. “And to you.” He couldn’t help the way he leaned toward her, supporting himself.
Hideyoshi poked a finger in his chest. “You can keep your ‘thank you’ until you and I are done, Mitsuhide!”
There were words Mitsuhide wanted to say. They tumbled, disorganized through his tired mind. He tried to marshal them to order. He was the kitsune warlord - and this was not the time to fall. Not. Yet.
Hideyoshi took his silence as offense and grabbed the front of his clothes, jerking him violently forward.
Mitsuhide felt his beloved’s warmth retreat from him and heard her make a worried sound.
“I hope you’re ready. I’ve got hundreds of questions and you are going to answer ever single one!” Hideyoshi shook him.
“Can’t it wait . . . until . . . tomorrow?” Mitsuhide heard his voice as if it came from a long way off. He was in a tunnel. In a hole in the ground. Hideyoshi’s face floated in the light above him.
“What? And give you the chance to escape?” He shook Mitsuhide again. “You’re not getting out of this.”
Mtisuhide felt his lips turn up in a smile. “It’s not that. I - I’m just . . . rather . . . tired.” And then Hideyoshi’s face was gone. There was only the darkness, silent and heavy. He didn’t have the strength to fight it anymore.

memories of the forest
Katsuki Bakugou x Reader;
Sky piercing trees loomed an unreachable canopy above her head as she raced through the forest’s lower jungle. Vines and upturning roots were nothing to her skilled bare feet. Dodging another low branch, the cheeky girl laughed to herself. Her clan would never be able to catch her here! Within Teair’s close knitted playground, this child of the sky wandered freely. Slowing down to a small stream, the girl perked up at the sound of a grass being moved. Something was here. Something….soft? Standing up and brushing off her deer skirt, she turned around to see her uninvited guest. She blinked, genuinely confused, as a vulpine beast with four tails sat in front of her. The tips of its tails were a soft autumn orange. It was….divine like. Nothing like Grandame Forneil, but close.
“Who are you?” The voice was male, but a child male. Close around her age...maybe. She would find out.
“I’m a daughter of the sky! Who are you?” the beast curled its tails around its feet. Seeming to observe her before answering.
“A beast of fire.” She laughed to herself, but not quiet at all.
“You are a land beast of flames!” The vulpine beast growled, quickly crouching down, ready to pounce. She only looked at the vulpine beast before giggling.
“Silly vulpine! You are land fire. I am -” the mighty roar of Grandame Gowyual trembled the loose dirt below the girl’s feet. Giggling louder, the girl finished her sentence. “- sky fire!”
It had been a few summers since she saw that land firefox of four tails. Ah...Kitsune, Grandame Forneil had explained the night of the fateful day. A Kitsune of four tails at such an age was a feat Forneil had continued on. She was lucky that Kitsune was curious about her, lest the beast grow bored and end her life. Sighing and shaking her braid behind her, the now young teen races through the same forest. This time, instead of playing hide & seek, she was practicing her tracking and hunting skills.
“Skills of a warrior. A survivor.” Grandame Locoful had croaked out before she left the nest with Grandame Forneil. Skidding to a halt and notching her arrow, focused gray eyes followed the peaceful deer. She was with a child, if the bigger belly was anything to go by. Removing her arrow and turning around, gray eyes locked on a sight of wonder. A golden kitsune with five tails, tipped in a familiar autumn tone. Ah…a fire kitsune. That’s when knowing crimson locked on her. Suddenly, she felt as if she was facing a true predator. A predator of many hunts and had victory in its tight bite. The kitsune rose, a head or two taller than her, and began to walk towards her. A small spark of fear struck her body, tensing her muscles. She was ready to fight. As the kitsune reached about a few paces ahead, the sudden breeze came. On its path...the smell of….smoke? Turning in the breeze’s direction, the girl saw the thick mog. Small, but growing rapidly.
“Stupid humans!” the girl mumbled under her breath. Was she human? She assumed not. After all, she lived with dragons. No mere mortal could live as long as she had. Glancing at the kitsune, who was watching her actions, the girl spoke in her serious voice as she stood up right.
“This is not the work of dragons. I will return with a dragon of water to save this forest.” The kitsune only tilted its head before speaking in a deep voice.
“A ride to a clearing may be the fastest way.” A kitsune making an offer? A trick if the situation wasn’t growing dire every minute. With a brisk nod, she walked over and carefully got on the furred back of the majestic beast. With ease, the beast ran through the thicket. No fur caught on low limbs and nothing hesitated the pathway. That’s when heavy clouds of ashy smoke filled the air and her breath. Fire. A forest fire caused by inattentive mortals.
“You will not reach the clearing in time.” fearing for the woods and the lives within, the girl hummed to herself before stretching both arms to the sky.
“Hear my cry! O’ beast of the lake. Take flight to the Azure’s Domain and bring the blessing of new beginnings! Locoful, dragon of Shiramizu! Hear me and cry out your blessing!” The heavy snaps of trees falling and the crackling of flames echoed back. Her cry was swallowed by the dire situation. The kitsune whacked her head.
“No dragon will hear you, imbecile.” She growled at the statement. Hoping it was false. Locoful would hear her. She always did.
“She will not abandon her fledgling.” The beast of fire exhaled heavily before turning around.
“Then at least be alive for her to save you.” Then, the Kitsune took off again. Running away from the flames. It is then, as the Kitsune jumped over a fallen log, a mighty roar and the sound of heavy crashing swallowed the air.
“Locoful!!” She cried, overjoyed, as the mighty dragon arrived. Within mere moments, the forest fire was put to rest and the mighty beast stared at her and the Kitusne. Slipping off the Kitsune’s back and reaching Locoful’s side, the girl spoke.
“See Kitsune, beast of land fire? Locoful will always answer her fledgling’s cry.”
It was hardly a season’s changing since the forest fire, when she found herself alone by the lake nest. Around her, curled protectively, laid Setluno. Setluno was a young dragon, half the age of Grandame Forneil. Setluno was the only one who played with her. Now, Setluno is forever embraced by the forest’s trees and the lake’s watery shoreline. In front of the nest’s entrance, Gowyral was delimbed and beheaded by a blade endowed with magic. The lake was boiling in rage as Gowyral fell. Locoful had died upon return to the nest, multiple poisonous arrows cracking her scales and the poison taking her life before she could finish her warning. Forneil was the only one alive. Yet, she was over a season’s change away. She wanted Forneil to come back. Avenge the nest. Protect her. Save her. She was scared and lonely. She was no beast of sky fire. She was a mortal. Just like those responsible for the death of her nestmates. So blinded by the emotions she felt and the events that occurred within three sun positions, she didn’t notice the lake’s water coming into the nest. Hardly felt the power shifting within her. Never noticed how she was no longer pooled in blood, but now in the sky, riding a mighty beast. Intended on killing those who took her nest.
He heard the mournful cry of a dragon before he saw one take flight. Yet, this dragon was not one of the physical planes. No. This dragon was alive by the sheer magic of a mortal. A mortal intent on bringing justice. His favorite mortal to be precise. What had happened? Taking off in pursuit, he saw how the dragon looked, searched, for something or someone. What mission required such measures of hunting and tracking? That’s when the tree sprites, Kodama, began to whisper.
“Dragons dead”
“Beast slain by man”
“Oyamatsumi is enraged”
“So is Ryujin and Fujin”
“The fledgling calls for blood.”
“She will kill everyone.” Fearing that his mortal might do just that, the Kitsune prayed to his given deity. Prayed that his human would have to take rest on the ground. Allow him a chance to guide her away from the path of evil.
“Please let me get to her in time. For the world will be chaos if she succeeds.”
Three summers have passed since that loss of her nest. She now ruled the forest with a close eye. Grandame Forneil was so broken by the deaths of her flightmates, she had taken her own life in the very same lake. Now, that lake was surrounded by beautiful flowers that would poison anyone who touched them. The only saving grace from them was if the person had suffered such a loss as she has. Now alone within the woods she called home, a thought passed her mind. Why her dragons? Why not her? This thought had haunted her for many nights and days. Nothing could stop these thoughts except the occasional hunting trips and killing off gluttonous men. Now, she stood in the lake’s shallow shores, naked under the sunlight. A bath after a recent hunting trip, when the snap of a branch caught her ear. Within a mere moment, she stood with her bow taunt and arrow notched, aimed at the noise. Only to see the familiar Kitsune. Yet, he now bore six tails. He had grown more powerful in the last three summers. They watched each other, waiting for the other to make a move, when she lowered her bow and set it on the sand.
“What, beast of land fire?” The Kitsune huffed, keeping its distance.
“You are not meant to be alone, mortal of flames. You need to be with others.” Gray eyes stared into crimson. She knew the Kitsune was correct. He usually was. Yet, to be with others meant risking another nest massacre. She couldn’t handle another heartbreak like that.
“Leave Kitsune.”
“You know my name. Use it.” She shook her head. A name meant power. Power she did not deserve. Suddenly, a warm cloth covered her shoulders and a man’s voice spoke closer to her.
“Y/N, the others miss you. The forest misses you! I...I miss you.” Warm arms enclosed her, making her heart beat faster and her mind filled with happy, joyous memories of younger times.
“Please...please don’t make me remember Kitsune.” The arms tightened, and the man’s voice returned.
“I will always remind you of the joy life can bring. But first, you must take my hand.”
She now stood before the overwhelming hearth of the mountain. She had found the murderers of her nest. The cause for her mourning. The cause of her grief. Today, she will return the favor. With her blade drawn and her eyes focused, Y/N was about to take the killing blow, when she saw the triplets resting in the mother’s arms. Suddenly, like ice had appeared, it sent shivers down her back. A mother and her children. Innocent children. With quick thoughts and quicker reflexes, she turned around and began to spirit back in the forest. The forest was now alive, gleaming with life. Yet, life that could be easily taken away.  Tears pricked her eyes and she tumbled down a hill. She could only feel the numbness in her heart. She had nearly repeated history again. With another family. Another generation of hurt and hate. Y/N closed her eyes, hoping for the tears to disappear. For this pain to leave.
He watched in slow motion as his mate, his Rook, leaped in front of him. Taking the killing blow from the monstrous demon Shi-gi. He watched, as his luminous flames encircled her body. A mortal with Kitsune Flames. Proof of their mate bond. He was enticed by the way she reached for the heavens, crying out for her deceased nestmates, and aimed her hands at Shi-gi.
“From the dust and stars, a life is born. To dust and star, life returns. From the mighty cry of a dragon and the plead of humanity, I fused the realms to grant my inner desire and wish!” He watched, as the five primordial deities appeared in forms of a phoenix, tiger, snake, tortoise, and….dragon. Together with his mate, the beings reached out their hands and gave power to her.
“I command the soul of Shi-gi to be bound to the realms of the inner Earth! May no beast, no mortal, no divine being find you. May you wirth in the chaos of the world and never be able to take part in its affairs! I bound thee to this plane and no other!! I banish you Shi-gi, from paradise and hell itself!!” His flames encircled her and suddenly, he remembered the price for banishment from Paradise. A soul for a soul.
“No!” He reached out, but only the feeling of his flames returned. His mate, now burning away in his flames, smiled at him.
“Find me again my love. In a time where you and I can co-exist without Shi-gi.”
He mourned to himself as the forest his love protected was burned by his flames. No. There was no world without her smile. No reason to continue if she wasn’t there. No point in existence. Turning around, ready to end his own and see her, a glimpse of something flashed through his mind’s eye. A girl, with amber hair and glowing eyes, running away from him in a playful manner. The same girl mocking his sharp teeth. The girl seeking the yokai realm for the first time. Then, the same girl bore his mark. A mark only he could create. Like lightning, he turned away from the murderous flames and ran through the woods. He couldn’t die. Just as his mate asked, he would find her again. Find her in a time where that cursed Shi-gi did not exist. His name is not even remembered by humanity. She had returned to the world of the living in some time. He would have to be there, ready and waiting, to meet her all over again.

18: Flower
polished up another wip for this one
(Read it on Ao3 here!)
Shiromori stalks through the undergrowth of the forest, following the scent of magic. It's faint, a trail left long ago, but there, and though it doesn't quite fit, it carries with it the unmistakable, tantalizing mark of her fox’s magic.
It isn't much longer before she breaks through the trees and into a clearing surrounded by some manufactured human walls. She sees the source of the magic immediately.
A ghost is floating, as though sitting in the air, elbows on his knees and staring quietly forwards. His expression is difficult to read on the flame-wrapped skull, but he looks… idle. Unresponsive to the subtle movements of the world around him.
“You,” she says, stepping forward from the shadows, letting a trail of vines and roots surge in her wake. “Where’s the mutt?”
He looks up, expression shifting from the former neutral mask into confusion. “What-?”
Another few steps, shoulders rising, hefting her shears. “That little dog. I know you’ve seen him. Where?”
“Dog- Mystery?”
…Yes, that’s the name her fox is going by now, isn’t it? She’s heard the humans call him that, or things that sound like it. “Yes. I’m looking for him. Tell me where he is.”
“Why?”
He hurt me and now he’s trying to hide.”
“…Hurt you?” he echoes.
She folds her arms, thinking over how best to summarize. "He kept me as a... pet, guardian? For years. Then he found some human who was stronger than he was, got scared, and let her set me on fire and ran away with her. Now he’s hiding with her descendants."
“Vivi's family…?" the ghost murmurs, looking down at the ground. Then he looked back up at her, eyes narrowing, sparks flying as he rose from the sitting position into a proper floating stance. "If it's revenge you're after, you won't be getting it. I swear I'll burn you alive a second time before you get anywhere near her.”
“Easy,” she warns, lifting her shears in response. A quiet whisper ripples through the small clearing as the crowd of vines gathers at her feet. “And put your magic down. I’m just after the fox.”
He blinks, shoulders easing back. “Fox?”
She has to laugh at that, just out of surprise. “He hasn’t even told you? Of course he’s been lying, how else would he get away with hiding with some human children? He’s a kitsune, who’s been hiding his true form because he knows I’ll find him if he shows it.” Her eyes flick over his form. There’s no clue as to what caused his death, but… “I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s him who’s the cause of this, somehow. He’s always been… bloodthirsty.”
“What? Mystery isn’t dangerous- it’s the little guy. I- this is all his fault.” He looks away, narrowing his eyes as he glares at the floor. “Backstabbing bastard…”
She processes his words for a moment, and then huffs a laugh. “That Yukino girl has a real talent for picking up monsters, doesn’t she?”
He echoes her half-amused sound. “Seems like it, huh?” The tense shoulders relax a little, brow unfurrowing, and he tilts his head at her. “I don’t know where Mystery is now. But it seems like we’re both after similar things. I’m willing to help you track down your… fox, if you help me find something, too. They won’t go far from each other.”
"You mentioned the little guy." She assumed he was talking about the sunflower that hung around their group, but if she was being honest, it was hard to imagine a sunflower doing something that could earn the level of sheer contempt in the ghost's voice. They'd always been kind and generous, as much as anyone was to her, and she almost felt bad about offering to – she assumed – hunt one down.
The ghost nodded, unfortunately. "His name is Arthur. I thought he was a friend, too... until he pushed me to my death. I've got to kill him before he kills anyone else."
"How noble of you." Probably wasn't wise to antagonize the fire spirit who already had reason to be suspicious of her, but the poorly disguised hate when he spat out the name made it obvious his goal was less about protecting everyone and more about revenge. She could sympathize with that, but she thought it was stupid to pretend anything more important about it. "But fine. You get the sunflower, I get the mutt."
He considers her for a moment, and then nods. “So what do you need from me?”
Reassured that she has his cooperation – for now, at least – she steps a little closer. “That- tether of yours. Give it to me, and I can track them.”
He covers it protectively with one hand. “I’m not letting you touch it!”
“Do you have some other way of finding them?”
He hesitates a moment longer before finally pulling the weakly pulsing blue heart off his chest, and holding it cautiously out to her. She sets one hand on it, raising the other empty, and draws out the tiniest bit of the mix of energies inside.
Three flowers bloom in her open palm - blue, purple, and yellow - and she huffs, taking the hand away to draw her shears. They aren't her mutt, but they'll do for now.
Once she's snipped the stems, she plucks the purple rose free of the other two, and offers it to the ghost.
"What is that?" he asks, tilting his head at it.
"Your soul. Or a part of it, at least. I don't need it, so you can decide what to do with it."
He takes it from her, brow still furrowed, and looks up. "And the other two-?"
"You don't recognize them?"
"...Vivi and Arthur," he says after a moment of deliberation.
She turns her attention back to the two flowers. She selects the blue to use first, and carefully removes the sunflower, saving it for later. "Souls are drawn to their owners. The flowers will carry us to them." She draws a breath and blows lightly on the blue, its petals falling away immediately and drifting on a nonexistent breeze.
"Well." She sets her shears on her shoulder, and turns back to the ghost. "Let's go find your sunflower."
