MITCHELL AKUTAGAWA EPISODE!!!!!!!!!!
#MITCHELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#///AND/// AKUTAGAWA EPISODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Yosano and Kenji spotlight too. Episode written precisely for my personal liking#Too bad no Atsushi then it would have been perfect (╥﹏╥) At least we got his voice in the episdoe preview#Alright I **LOVE** Mitchell. This is not the space to talk about it properly but I just really like how flawed she is‚#but also in a way that results funny and endearing. And I love love love how much she cares about her family and is loyal to it!!!#It makes her so noble and virtuous. I know she has so little screentime but really the way she's so harsh and in apparence self-absorbed–#But in reality so kind and altruistic... The way her hearsh ways are implied to be only a consequence of a life of struggles and her will–#to save her family's name through a noble behavior and appearance too... It makes her so complex and multilayered imo#AND just how her innate tendency to defend people spans out of her family too!!!!#In my interpretation she did NOT care for Hawthorne or like him. But she still gave her life for him because she just instinctively–#protects the people around her. I don't have any strong feelings for haw/mitch but like how to blame Hawthorne I would have–#fallen for her right that istant too.#Now to Akutagawa. I'm really endeared by this episode because I'm pretty sure that's when I started sympathizing with / liking him :')#Like that's the moment when the things Dark Era showed us and the canon Akutagawa behavior click together and the watcher goes “Oh. OH.”#At least I'm pretty sure it was for me. It's bittersweet but especially sweet.#One more thing is... Wow bsd really has been like *that* since the beginning hasn't it. It's kinda silly to think back to all the criticism#the latest arc got now.#The criticism regarding how the ridiculously high stakes have been solved seemingly effortlessly in a way that resulted very anticlimatic??#That's ALWAYS been there. “Oh no the ada is done for if they found out our base!!” *holds literally ZERO consequences*#“Oh no the Guild is done for if they destruct Zelda!!” *holds literally ZERO consequences*#“Oh no the Guild knows were our clerk is!!” *holds near to ZERO consequences*#And#“Oh no Akutagawa died!” “Oh no half world population was tuned in vampires!” “Oh no Fukuchi obtained One Order!”#“Oh no Chuuya is a vampire siding against Dazai!”#It's really the same‚ isn't it?#But like‚ we're still glad all of it happened right? Because it makes the experience enjoyable lol.#It's really about enjoying the ride I suppose.#I have more to ramble about but I've ran out of tags so I'll be doing it on my main blog reblog later#random rambles

Fuck it Mitchell ramble post bc I care about his character alot actually (cringe)
Originally played football later switched to baseball and is regarded as a jock type, though his main passion and hobby is being a guitarist. He writes and vocalizes songs but sees it as being just a part of getting to play guitar if he wants to do it entertainment wise, often rock/pop rock lyrics that don't go far into and generally lack emotional depth, in favor of being catchy. He loves the rockstar aesthetic mainly, and the old timey-esc gentleman one secondarily.
A big huge romantic, very flirty personality who prides himself on being attractive. Brimming with genuine self esteem he thinks highly of himself to the point where he can come across as egotistical, in actuality he doesn't outright think he's better than anybody , just has clear self love is all.
He's an older brother and incredibly family oriented who aligns more maternally in the nature of his behaviors alot of the time. For the majority of his life it was just him and his single father so he's always craved that big family vibe he never got.
He's supposed to have a caring/warm/comforting effect on people in alot of scenarios as well as effectively protective so he's physically big as well as literally usually high temperature and I've used the term "swallowed her/his frame in his embrace" to describe him hugging ppl bc they'll like disappear against him/in his jacket
and also the fact Mitchell takes up alot of space, is aware of it, and doesn't like it !! He's incredibly expressive in nature and talks with his hands but almost strictly keeps them right infront of him. He's also heavily expressive in the face, he prefers to not hurt feelings and stay in his manners but cannot have a poker face easily at all. He can only lie believably when the need/want to do so outweighs any guilt.
Has this thing where he doesn't want to hurt people and never wants to come across as violent or scary. I've described him feeling immense guilt in certain situations when he thinks he has and he gets the overwhelming desire to literally shrink himself down but can't. It's a pure insecurity not really based in any truth or any one past event.
Regulates his emotions very well, seemingly has this endless patience.
Mitch has things integral to the person he believes he is/wants to be. Attractiveness, helpfulness, comforting, being main ones. He'd much rather be a "simple" guy despite his dreams of fame, as in easy going and rather not particularly burdened by anything emotionally, very positive in attitude.
Additionally in being characterized as "simple/basic/normie" alot of his personal tastes reflect that, having very on the nose typical "average" preferences and not falling far outside the box of what's considered normal, he's nerotypical and charming and has functioned his whole life in the center of what's considered socially appealing.
He doesn't like to analyze his negative thoughts at all, much rather get them to go away. He doesn't even like to analyze himself that hard at all either, or his habits. He doesn't know why he needs to be helpful, strong, masculine it's just a role he wants to fill and prides himself on doing so.
He's completely unaware to all his flaws, as he's accidentally a little overbearing at times to his loved ones, even unintentionally patronizing in some circumstances, coming off condescending without meaning to. He wants to be helpful and even specifically has this good samaritan "look out for the little guy" mentality but to do so inherently has to make subconscious judgements on who's deemed a 'little guy' metaphorically or literally.
He likes to think of himself as a guy who has no toxic masculinity, and for the most part doesn't, but what he does have is deeply subconsciously internalized and only ever aimed at himself, a certain ideal he has to be.
On multiple levels he's judging himself on a different caliber than other people, holding things against himself he wouldn't for anybody else, holding himself to a different standard on a plethora of things.
As well as his fear of being scary he doesn't want to be perceived as weak either. To his idea of himself a damnaged or hurt person will never fit that, bad things happen to other people and it's his duty to help them as a friend, lover, whatever he may be to them. This isn't to say he thinks there's something shameful on a personal level to being a person who went through something bad, it just is to him. He's not being good enough if he can't get over it.
Has a fear if he ever does something extreme to give either the impression he's scary or wimpy that'll be how everyone present will veiw him from then on no matter what he's done or can do to fix that image before or after.
Despite having such heavy pride in general, especially in his looks and his ability to be charming/flirty and that having an effect on people, his pansexuality is not something he feels much connection to. He doesn't even view himself as a queer person just a "dude who happens to like dudes too" and experiences alot of comphet without ever realizing it and of course never addressing it

Ok, so, this is probably ridiculous, and I can't believe I have a House of the Dragon theory before it even airs (I can barely believe I have a HOTD theory at all), but...
Since the release of The Princess and the Queen in 2013, and through everything published about the Dance of the Dragons since then (TRP, TWOIAF, F&B), it's known that Daemon and Aemond Targaryen have a lot of parallels. Besides the most obvious point of their names (just move the D, lol), they're both hotheaded, vengeful, kinslayers, brutal and ruthless, excellent swordsmen, more martial and physically active than their kingly older brother who they were nevertheless devoted to... culminating in their final showdown in the Battle Over the Gods Eye, the aging older model vs the would-be "new hotness". Though a major difference is that fandom tends to treat Aemond as far more of a pretentious wannabe, a bad Xerox copy with his marysueish sapphire eye and ooh so hardcore dialogue, generally disliked while Daemon is beloved (or at least opinions are far more split), the Darkstar to his Oberyn.
As for HOTD -- though we have yet to see how normie fandom and newbies will react to these two characters once they both start doing their thing, one thing I've noticed from the trailers is that most new people just cannot tell them apart. I have a friend (with no interest in ASOIAF but who's seen the ads multiple times during his shows) who thought Aemond was Matt Smith in an eyepatch. And Matt and Ewan Mitchell do look remarkably and surprisingly alike.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That same flat square jaw from the front but cut cheekbones from the side, similar noses and lips, even when in costume the same lack of eyebrows for goodness sake... Well, maybe this is just highly similar Targaryen wigs and makeup, maybe it's just good casting, following the evident show-Targaryen family look. Maybe the showrunners just chose a young actor who looks a bit like Matt Smith and costumed him similarly as a way to hammer home the parallels between the characters. But. What if this casting and costuming means something... more?
We know that one of the in-world text sources of the Dance is the scurrilous Testimony of Mushroom, which claimed that Alicent was no virgin when married, having previously slept with Viserys and even senile King Jaehaerys (which I most thoroughly doubt, that's just Mushroom's typical slander). We know that Otto Hightower detested Daemon, all the sources concurring, if no reason given except perhaps "Lord Flea Bottom"'s known behavior. We know that per interviews etc, in the show Daemon is said to have a complex relationship with his brother Viserys, loving yet jealous. We know that, well, HBO is HBO, as bad as Mushroom, and loves to add sexy scandalous scenes for water-cooler and social media buzz, even if they're claiming it won't be so bad and blatant as GOT with HOTD. So... what if, in the show, there's some kind of... incident, between Daemon and Alicent, a seduction or maybe, um, not the greatest level of consent, and then a little bit of time and Alicent tells Viserys she's pregnant again? Perhaps there won't be anything overt, nothing ever said, just implied via nasty looks and snatches of dialogue... but what if? There's no Maury Povich or DNA testing in Westeros...
Mind you, a big flaw in this theory is that in the books, Daemon was absent from court from late 105 to 111 AC, either on Dragonstone or in the Stepstones, and Aemond was born in 110 AC. But we already know that HOTD's adaptation is playing a bit with timelines, making Alicent and Rhaenyra about the same age whereas Alicent was 9 years older in the books. We don't yet know how they might tweak the ages of their children -- though from the trailers and behind-the-scenes videos, Aemond seems to be far closer to the ages of Jacaerys and Lucerys (in the Vhagar incident scenes they all look 10-12-ish, rather than 10, 6, and 5, and the actors are 12, 13, and 8). And imagine-- the parallels (not just between Daemon and Aemond, but Alicent and Rhaenyra), the greek tragedy levels of irony... it would be amazing.
So. I suppose we'll see. This could be completely crack, based on nothing more than the somewhat similar appearances of actors cast as uncle and nephew. But if it does go down that way, if show-Daemon has a son he could never ever acknowledge... don't say I didn't warn you.

Diabolik Lovers characters as demigods in the Percy Jackson universe! (Who their godly parents would be and why I think that)
My reasonings are based off of official Percy Jackson wikis (specifically each Camp Half Blood cabin wiki has a list of their canon shared skills and personality traits) as well as analyzing the characters we see in all the series :)
Under a cut because this is looooong lol
Shu
------
Cabin 6 - Athena
For humor's sake I'd say Hypnos because he's the god of sleep and Shu sleeps a lot like his demigod children do in the series, but being serious I actually think he'd be a child of Athena. In multiple routes and endings, he's proven himself to be proficient in sword-fighting, despite having no proper lessons or experience. Likewise, Athena's children are all naturally gifted with the ability to wield any weapon with great skill, even when they don't have much experience. He also has great wit at times and is incredibly intelligent and perceptive, both traits that Annabeth and her siblings express. He's also blonde like most of Athena's children are in the series.
Reiji
------
Cabin 6 - Athena
I also believe Reiji would be a child of Athena, making him and Shu rare but not impossible full blood sibling demigods! Like Shu, Reiji has also shown profiency in sword-wielding despite having very little practice if any at all. He is also highly intelligent and has a dry wit like Athena's children in the series. He's also incredibly ambitious and strategic but he's also prideful which is all of Athena's children's fatal flaw in the series. It's confirmed that all her demigod children have the fatal flaw of hubris, which is excessive pride.
Ayato
-------
Cabin 17 - Nike
All of Nike's children are highly skilled in athletics but also extremely competitive and perhaps over confident. They can't say no to a challenge and will do anything to prove that they are the best. They are described as intense and driven, all of which I think fits Ayato pretty well.
Kanato
--------
Cabin 20 - Hecate
At first I was going to put Kanato in Hephaestus because he can control fire like a select few of Hephaestus' kids can, but then I remembered that Hecate's children can cast pretty much any magic, including pyrokinesis. Plus he really doesn't fit any other aspect of being a Hephaestus demigod. He also shows some other magical abilities like turning inanimate creatures into living animals, his familiars, so being the son of the goddess of magic seems fitting.
Laito
-------
Cabin 10 - Aphrodite***
Laito actually shows a lot of Aphrodite demigod traits. He's incredibly perceptive and has an impressive ability to understand everyone easily, like how Piper is able to immediately understand the silent conversation between Chiron and Annabeth at the bonfire in The Lost Hero. It's confirmed in the Aphrodite Cabin wiki that all Aphrodite children have high social abilities and awareness, which ties into Laito's intuition. Laito also is one hell of a charmspeaker. He's very good at telling someone exactly what they want to hear and has been able to convince people to do many things. Charmspeak is a skill some of Aphrodite's children have where they can convince people to do things just with words and they often have a knack for persuasion. He also has a good fashion sense. He's always very well put-together in fashionable outfits and has his signature hat. Aphrodite's children are excellent with fashion. And once Yui helps him understand the difference between love and lust, he's romantic and affectionate. Aphrodite's children love romance and are seen to be very affectionate with the people they care about. He's also pretty family-oriented with Kanato and Ayato and in The Lost Hero the Aphrodite siblings do look out for each other (with the exception of Drew) like how Mitchell and Lacy help Piper pack for her quest and how some campers comfort Lacy when she cries.
Subaru
---------
Cabin 5 - Ares
Subaru's hot-headed and good with daggers, just like Ares demigods are quick to anger and are instinctively good with all weapons. Subaru and Ares cabin members also share good fighting skills. In the Dark Fate prologue Subaru is able to take on an entire pack of supernaturally strong wolves all by himself to protect Ayato. He's also extremely strong physically, able to lift heavy stuff and punch holes through walls. Likewise, Ares demigods have superhuman strength and are stronger than the average demigod. Finally Ares demigods have Odikinesis which is essentially the power to get someone angry. Subaru doesn't have that exactly but in the manga and games, Yui actually verbally fights back against him a lot more than the other diaboys like when they're arguing in the limo very early in the first route so it kinda fits him in that regard.
Ruki
------
Cabin 6 - Athena
Another Athena demigod! Ruki has also on occasion shown himself to be good with a sword and like Reiji and Shu, he's incredibly intelligent, he enjoys reading like Annabeth and presumably her siblings do, is ambitious and strategic and is very prideful like how all of Athena's children have hubris as their fatal flaw. He generally believes he doesn't need help and can do things better than others, which is exactly how Annabeth describes her hubris in Sea of Monsters, telling Percy she believes she can do things even better than the gods. He also has a witty, teasing sense of humor like Annabeth. He even has the same grey eyes almost if not all of Athena's cabin members have.
Kou
-----
Cabin 7 - Apollo
He's an excellent singer and dancer and Apollo is known in mythology and Rick Riordan's books to be very flirtatious. None of Apollo's demigod children in the books share this trait, but it is a correlation worth noting between Kou and Apollo. Before entering a relationship with Yui, he acts very flirtatiously with his fans and even kisses them. I debated Aphrodite because of how he cares about his looks and is fashionable but I feel like singing should play a bigger role in deciding where he belongs so I think Apollo's cabin suits him best. I am aware Piper sings beautifully but that's not confirmed among all/most of Aphrodite's children or even Aphrodite herself, whereas all of Apollo's children have musical talent, just some more than others.
Yuma
-------
Cabin 4 - Demeter
Demeter's demigod children are usually gentle and kind like her and Yuma definitely doesn't fit that, but he is an excellent gardener and genuinely cares for and respects nature so I still think Demeter's cabin best fits him. Demeter is also associated with pigs and Yuma's nickname for Yui is Sow. None of the demigod children of Demeter call anyone they know pigs of course but I'm trying to draw lines between the Diabolik Lovers universe and the Percy Jackson universe for this post.
Azusa
-------
Cabin 14 - Iris
Honestly, Azusa was hard. I decided on Iris because he's incredibly kind and peaceful and generally only fights in self-defense or to protect those he loves, which is a huge aspect of Iris' demigod children and Iris herself.
Carla
-------
Cabin 20 - Hecate
As a founder, he has incredible magical abilities such as transformation, lightning, and other things we don't even see. Founders are generally much more magical than any other race in Diabolik Lovers so I feel like the goddess of magic being his mother fits.
Shin
------
Cabin 20 - Hecate
Same thing with Carla. They both have actual magical powers, much more so than the other diaboys (with the exception of whichever Sakamaki brother inherits Karlheinz's magic at the end of Dark Fate) who are generally limited to only vampire abilities in terms of supernatural skills, so Hecate suits them both.
Kino
------
Cabin 11 - Hermes
Kino is very cunning and mischevious and is quite resourceful like all of Hermes' demigod children, like how he used his phone in Chaos Lineage to recover his memories. Hermes children are also incredibly persuasive and Kino is able to convince many of the diaboys to sympathize with and trust him. Not that all Hermes children are manipulative for bad reasons of course, I'm just saying both Cabin 11 members and Kino are very good at saying exactly what someone wants to hear and they know what to say in order to convince someone to do something.
Yui
-----
Cabin 18 - Hebe
Hebe's demigod children are very kind and take pride in the happiness of others like Yui does. They're also fast healers and considering how much physical trauma Yui goes through, she's almost always healed shockingly quickly. (I understand that the diaboys have healing saliva so their bites will heal fast, but other injuries she heals quickly from as well I've noticed.) I don't think we see it but I feel like Yui would love doing community service and party planning, just like Hebe's children.
-------------------------------------------
*** Laito's sexual nature played no part in me putting him in Aphrodite's cabin. Aphrodite is the goddess of pleasure and sexuality, yes, but obviously none of Rick's characters are sexual or sexualized. He just has a lot of traits associated with Aphrodite's demigod children.

so, kyotag, your super honest opinion about bsd characters please (aka, who is your fave and who is your least fave. i promise, i am not trying to get you 'cancelled', i am just curious!) 🎤
Ever since I've gotten this ask I've been trembling, I don't think I can ever give bsd honest opinions for the sake of my own future mental sanity LMAO. The upside is, I can talk plenty of the characters I like!!
My favourite character is Kenji! For real, ahah. I'm just always drawn to characters that are just... Good. little guys only trying to do their best and be kind. I suppose there's also a factor of “that's who I want to be” that makes me like them in particular. I don't like the direction they went for Kenji's character in chapter 100.5, but really? I wasn't particularly let down by it either, like it's so fundamentally coherent with the worldview bsd expresses, if anything it was chapter 13 that was out of the scheme. I'm a professional canon ignorer at this point and I'll keep doing just that ahah.
Tumblr media
↑ Saw this scene for the first time in the anime, went “Slay! Communist king!”, and he's been my favourite ever since lol.
Although, if we count in Beast, then my favourite character overall must be Beast Atsushi. I mean, have you seen him... Most fucked up guy ever. He went through unimaginable trauma and he still kept being so soft at his core. He just wants to live but everyone is making it so hard for him. He cares for Kyouka so much and he cares for Dazai so much and (to me) he cares for Akutagawa so much like little traumatized boy how did you manage to save all that love in you despite the Horrors. I can't put in words how much I love him but really he's the only character I can say I really sympathize with, like, I want good things to happen to him. I want him to spend the rest of his life coddled and adored.
I love all the female characters <3 I ADORE Kyouka, I think among the other female characters she's the most multilayered and complex character with a structured and compelling story arc. I think she's seriously nice, I really love this stark contrast between her sharp, cynical side and her side that is so sweet and kind and so utterly 14 y/o, and I love how these two sides aren't really in conflict but just come to be together and make her so authentically Kyouka. She's so dear to me. Also, she's the only female character who can compete with the s.kk / ss.kk four for the role of main character, so like, I'm rooting for her ahah.
I adore Yosano for self-explanatory reasons lmao. The chapters of her backstory may not be my absolute favourites for a mere matter of personal taste but I definitely think they make for the best written chapters in the whole manga. I really like how sensitive she is of others' suffering, I think she's amazing– I think her compassion is truly amazing. I want to read more stories of unapologetically compassionate characters. I also generally really really love “older sister” kind of characters!!
I love Kouyou with all I've got. I'm sorry, I genuinely think her story was this good on mistake, but still. I think her backstory makes her genuinely intriguing, I think she's extremely cool and powerful and a joy to see in action, I think toxic mother / daughter relationships are super fun to explore, I think she deserves so much more spotlight and should be back as soon as possible.
I love Mitchell lmao. Like I know it may not look like it but I truly think about her 24/7. I just love women that are kinda silly and over the top. She's got like four lines and every single one is a gem and I adore all of them. She's got those big evident flaws and they make her so human and likeable!!! She's my best friend. Not to mention how loyal she is and how much she cares about her family, I really like those traits of her. Oh, and gowns! I love love love gowns.
Okay but seriously I love all female characters. I didn't like Lucy in particular at the start but she's really grown on me and now I adore her with everything. Wells is spectacular and I need her back as soon as possible. Every woman I didn't mention, from Higuchi to Egawa, believe me I love with all my heart.
I went off a tangent I'm so sorry </3 I know you asked for one character, but how can I not mention the others??? It's just been so long for me in the fandom now and I just can't but grow attached. And I've got so much untapped love for women I never get to talk about on my silly blog that focuses on two men. Following up the list, would be Akutagawa. And I don't want to talk about him because I suppose there's no need to after having made one trillion posts about him but also can I just say? I like him for the same exact reasons I like Kenji. She's just a guy trying to be good. The difference is that he sucks so bad at it, and it makes him SO fun to explore as a character. I really have so much fun playing with him. Then would be Tachihara, Jouno...
... ........................ For the characters I like least, I suppose, R/anpo. I'm so sorry peoples. In R/anpo's case, it's just... Why do you have to be so mean and disrespectful all the time. Seriously, dude. Why is he always treating others as less than he is. I'm sorry, I really am, but I just can't help but find it displeasant? Like it takes zero energy to treat other people with common human decency, c'mon dude. At least Akutagawa is trying to do better, but everyone treats R/anpo like he's entitled to be a jerk? Idk man.
K/unikida. In his case, I Do Get why he's the way that he is (and genuinely can relate to him to an extent), it's just... For the way I am, I consider to try and forcibly impose your own ideals on other people to be about the most insulting thing you can do. And he does that a lot, with Atsushi and Dazai and everyone else. He also has this whole forced lack of empathy thing going on like... I get why he does that, and I get what he went through that made him like he is, but that doesn't change the fact you're kinda being a dick to everyone all the time dude. Please get some therapy.
That doesn't mean there aren't moments when I've genuinely liked them both and found them seriously cool!!!! I still think K/unikida is an interesting character and I genuinely get why people like him. I love the helicopter scene, I remember when I was reading the manga for the first time, when he said “no one ruins my schedule”, I was like, whaa, I was completely in awe. For R/anpo too, the Untold Origins arc from what I could see from the anime was really nice, and I also highly enjoy that one scene of his in chapter 81, the “To tell the truth, I had absolutely no assurance they'd believe me”.
Thank you for the ask Nyusa!! I hope you could find this at least a little bit interesting (?). If anything, now you know a little more about me, ahah. Also not talking about Dazai this time because really I can't be here the whole day.

On a long plane journey I watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, The Mitchells VS The Machines, Across the Spider-Verse and Elemental.
All good movies, would recommend on various strengths.
But I think we need to put all the well-meaning parents in animation on the bench for a year or more. I know you are all good parents despite being workaholics in a cutthroat industry, you can stop telling me that with all your movies. I understand that you're trying your best, and just want your kids to come to terms with your relatively minor flaws.
You've done excellent work, parents who make animated movies about connecting with your loveable teenage children. Can you now move aside and let some childless misanthropes make some movies? I want some disgust at children to cleanse my palette. I want some genuine anger, even some sadism. I grew up on Dahl who, by all accounts, hated children. I want some genuine anger, even some sadism, directed at both children and parents, injected back into the culture.
Maybe I'm a fool for wanting anti-family ideas from family movies, but all ecosystems are strengthened by diversity. And diversity isn't just about race, neurology and sexuality - there are kids with genuinely bad parents out there who are only receiving the message that they are one character arc away from being loved and accepted. There are first-generation immigrants who have good reason to hate the culture and religion of their family.
For every Bandit from Bluey you need a Daddy Pig. Right now the scales are tipping towards the saintly Bandits and I can't help but feel like the children of Daddy Pigs are being told that they are wrong.
When those children grow up and start making animated movies about their rage and betrayal, about their plans to deconstruct the edifices that trapped and hurt them, I'll be all over that.

A Case of You by @epitomereally
Harry/Draco (2022, Explicit, 97k)
Draco was doing just fine working as an Unspeakable in Paris, hanging out with his living and ghostly pals, inventing new spells, and definitely not thinking about Potter. Then, Lucius just had to break out of prison and turn his world upside down. Now, Draco has to return to England, where he is forced to confront how family ties bind us—and one infuriatingly fit Harry Potter.
Potter grinned up at him, a flash of quicksilver. This wasn’t at all like Draco ever thought this would be like: Potter thinking he was good, Potter smiling at him, Potter laying his hand gently on him, Potter wanting him. It made him feel frantic and out of control. He didn’t know how to act at all; with Smith, it had been awful and desperate and mean. He suddenly felt, after Potter’s breakdown, that he couldn’t be awful or mean, not right now.
All hail the long fic king!!!! This 100k fic caught me completely off guard by how invested I felt in something this long (sadly not my usual these days) as Wireless got closed to wrapping up. It deserves a spotlight in my single recs for that feat alone but I also really really wanted to celebrate epitome’s first fic back in the fandom after 15 years (starting with a bang!!!) especially because I’ve seen her reccing many wonderful fics lately and it’s a thrill to have someone this talented around again! Before getting into it I also wanna link the amazing rec @romaine2424 did for this fic earlier this week, check it here!
Now, how could I resist this fic looking at those tags - case fic, break up/make up, Unspeakable Draco? Non-linear narrative? Blood magic? Joni Mitchell? Sign me up, please! I’m so so happy that I jumped right in because oh my goodness, what a delightful and thrilling ride this was! The way the author combines excellent plot with the slow unravel of Draco and Harry’s relationship is addictive and will keep you hooked from start to end, which is why I gotta say 97k felt shorter as I was devouring this. The tension building in both main plot and UST (hello casual sparring, this is every Drarry reader’s wet dream 🔥) is superb and a masterclass in anticipation while filling out the blanks about their complicated past with a dual narrative strategy.
I couldn’t decide which timeline I was more invested in, I just wanted to learn everything about this competent, bossy and mysterious Harry, so edgy 🤤 and this lovely redeemed Draco, fierce, stubborn, earnest, a great friend who’s learned how to own his life and decisions. Their voices are excellent, the chemistry is off the charts and absolutely scorching, I love how they work together on the case while dancing around their feelings, trying not to let it affect the investigation and team dynamics. Beyond the side relationships - in my opinion one of the major highlights in this fic, kudos to all those charming, nuanced and flawed characters - the Paris landscape and general descriptions make the fic so much more immersive! Draco’s life abroad jumps to life in the tiniest aesthetic details and I immediately fell in love with the OCs, not to mention Lucius’ plot line and house elves supremacy as a bonus! They’re so creative and charming, I had a lot of fun with these side stories.
On a separate note, I really really loved this take on break up/make up Drarry. Not only we got to see their Auror training and how their tentative friendship started fresh out of school, I think the author gave their relationship a very much appreciated depth and nuance throughout the years, showing why being pulled apart helped them grow more confident and allowed them to establish healthier relationships, and to learn how to trust each other in order to be properly together. No one’s at fault here, it just wasn’t the right time as both characters had to mature and become the men they are right now. It was an engaging and really refreshing approach to the whole enemies to lovers dynamic while keeping the tension very much alive and firing sparks, and I loved every minute of it!
Exciting plot, ultimate UST, masterful character building, delicious smut, and a heartwarming and earned happy ending. This is everything Drarry fans are looking for and some, a really well-crafted long fic that deserves all the love and appreciation for all it has accomplished. What are you waiting for? Happy readings!

thoughts on popular sitcoms (all the ones you have watched)
I haven't actually watched many, only two actually! I've watched through all of Modern Family and half of The Office, but I'd love to give my thoughts on both.
Starting with MOFY. As most of my followers know, I am obsessed with a couple of the key characters in the show, and I love a lot of the emotional storylines, and most of the humor is great. HOWEVER, there are a LOT of problems with it. Serious issues (SA, abuse, PTSD) are made into cheap laugh jokes and never properly addressed, abusers are made into "sympathetic" characters, and manipulation/toxicity is made out to be 'just how relationships are.' Additionally, a lot of amazing characters were ruined by later seasons, as were good character arcs, and I'm not a fan of the ending in general, as well as just a lot of story choices that just didn't make sense or were unnecessary (i.e., Arvin/Alex, Joe as a character overall, and Luke and Manny's absolutely massacred personalities). To me, it just seems that the writers got lazy, the story got bad, and the characters, for the most part, just became unlikeable. Plot lines such as Gloria baptizing babies against the parents' backs, Cam turning all of his and Mitch's friends against him for no apparent reason, and Claire hating Dylan all through the show are just a few examples of how piss-poor a lot of the storytelling got, and all of that ties in to using SERIOUS ISSUES as shitty humor. I can guarantee that no one laughed when Mitchell was forced to apologize for when Cam's sister kissed him non-consensually, or when DeDe was given a 'redemption' after abusing her kids for all of their lives.
Basically, though I do love a lot of the show (episodes such as the pilot, 'Disneyland', and 'The One That Got Away' are all examples of ones that are near-perfect in my opinion) and the characters (at least before they were written so poorly) are all beloved in my heart, there were a LOT, and I mean a LOT of issues with that show that I think all stems back to lazy writing or misunderstandings of how serious issues play out - and in my opinion, if issues such as the aforementioned SA, abuse, PTSD, and toxic relationships are going to be introduced, then they need to be addressed. I love Modern Family, but its flaws are glaring at times, and it's unfortunate to see how it took a dive over the seasons from such a good show to only a mediocre one with rare good episodes such as the bangers we got in the first few seasons. I'll always love that sitcom, but damn, does it hurt to compare my interpretations of the characters and scenarios to what actually happened.
Moving on to The Office, we have a lighter note here! This is a show that doesn't take anything seriously, but in a way that issues such as SA, anxiety, homophobia, and abuse are addressed, even if it is unconventional in the way that they go about it. Also, please do note that I have only watched the first four seasons, and I have heard that, like MOFY, the show does take a dive after a while, which is unfortunate, but so far it has been very good and well-done, and is absolutely hysterical. I LOVE some characters (Pam, Jim, Creed, Oscar, Holly, Stanley), hate others (Ryan, Toby, Jan, Angela, Kevin), and am in-between on all the rest (Michael, Dwight, Meredith . . . you get the idea), and I love that dynamic. This show is about shitty people, for shitty people, and honestly, I'm obsessed with it. Not to mention Jim and Pam's relationship, which simultaneously makes me insane and makes me sob uncontrollably because of how much I love them, and I desperately hope that their relationship doesn't get destroyed because of poor writing (like a certain one did in MOFY... sorry Camchell). Anyways, I love this show, it makes me die laughing, and the writing is deranged but also masterful in a way that makes me wonder if the people who created it were on crack-cocaine the entire time, but in a good way.
I plan to watch Parks and Rec next, but if you know any good sitcoms, lmk in the replies, I'd be happy to watch and share my thoughts whenever I have the time!! I also might update this when I finish The Office, because I feel like I'll have a lot of thoughts on it. Thanks for the ask though, I loved answering it!
Last thing, because I cannot stress this enough - if you are going to introduce a serious issue into a story, you need to address it, and for fuck’s sake, please don't make it into a fucking cheap joke.

'...53. Six Feet Under
HBO 2001-05
The difficulty in looking at the legacy of “Six Feet Under”? Five seasons of exceptional television are inevitably overshadowed by 10 minutes of perfect television. Creator Alan Ball’s series follows the lives of the funeral home-operating Fisher family and those in their orbit, while exploring both the profound and the mundane in death. The final moments of “Six Feet Under,” a succession of emotional jolts underscored by a soulful Sia ballad, felt in the moment surprisingly daring. But, looking at a series that for its entire run had been keenly observed but startlingly openhearted, one might say that the show died the way it lived.
50. My So-Called Life
ABC 1994-95
It’s rare for art made by adults to perfectly nail the angst, anguish and hope of being a teen. While series like “Beverly Hills, 90210” were giving high schoolers a glossy, sexy view of adolescent life, Winnie Holzman’s “My So-Called Life,” which starred Claire Danes as 15-year-old Angela Chase in lovelorn pursuit of her crush, Jordan Catalano (Jared Leto), offered something more grounded and tangible. The show’s sole season is distinctly of its time, but “My So-Called Life” has something for teens (and former teens) today too. It’s a series about thrilling and heart-wrenching experiences — first love, coming to understand your parents and trying to understand your own frenzied emotions.
32. Lost
ABC 2004-10
What’s in the hatch? Who are the Others? Where did that polar bear come from? Yes, “Lost” hooked tens of millions with tantalizing mystery box questions like these. And yes, many of the answers showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse ultimately provide don’t quite live up to that fervor. But what made the show was its vibrantly rendered characters, dozens upon dozens of them — Hurley (Jorge Garcia) and Sayid (Naveen Andrews), Juliet (Elizabeth Mitchell) and Sawyer (Josh Holloway), Sun (Yunjin Kim) and Jin (Daniel Dae Kim), Locke (Terry O’Quinn) and Ben (Michael Emerson) — all striving to make sense of their upside-down circumstances within an expansive, rip-roaring, fabulously weird adventure. It was a flawed show, sometimes deeply so, but between its characters and, yes, those damned questions, “Lost” engaged its audience like no other, precipitating the online ecosystem of fevered fan theorizing that dominates how so many of us experience our favorite shows today.
21. Game of Thrones
HBO 2011-19
There was no bigger television show in the 2010s than HBO’s adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s epic fantasy novels. Created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the fantasy epic pulled viewers into the cutthroat world of Westeros, a land rife with myths, legends, warring families and magical dragons. It was an enormous undertaking and a feat: Despite its relatively humdrum ending, “Game of Thrones” redefined television with its depictions of violence, sex and gore, and with its frank assessment of what it takes to rule. The series examined the universal lust for power, and within its spectacle drew complex portraits of the people who would tear the world apart for their chance to sit atop the coveted Iron Throne...'

Kristen could have used the ethical conflict in 5A and her beloved Lucy would have been better received in 5B. 😶 🤭 She probably also could have gotten her BL romance that she wanted so badly. Kristen screwed herself and her beloved Lucy, a cop family, and a BL romance. Wow, we dodged a bullet because of Kristen’s incompetence.
Tumblr media
She did both women (the actresses and the characters they play) so dirty. 💀 TayKay's career was obviously going to be an *ahem* breaking point in their relationship - we could see that coming from the "No comment." remark in 4x14??? - and instead of showing that after she found out about Mitchell's motive [ftr, that episode was originally meant to be 5x07, so it would have made sense for her to do something in 5x08 or 5x09 and then Buck breaks things off in the 5A finale], she gets CHEATED ON, pretends she has nowhere else to go because she didn't renew her lease when Buck asked her to move in, and then does the thing we expected her to a whole four weeks later because the season was about to end. Lucy becomes the woman Buck cheated with in her first episode. The audience already has a reason to reject her if they wish to. AK gets the go-ahead to promote her character, promote the "is it poking or is it flirting?" dynamic between BL, preview scenes where we'd see her interact with others because Lucy isn't supposed to be there *just* for Buck and then...scenes are cut. She looks like a liar/an attention seeker. Literally ALL a COMPETENT showrunner had to do was break BT up before BL kiss and start their "flirting" phase. People would have complained, no doubt, but "it's not like Buck's in a relationship anymore", right? Who would the show have to please? (Even more incredible is that Tim did not see the flaw in this plan. Talk about heteronormative brain rot. It's contagious.)

Hi Nic, it's me, your not mutual (who's name is not Tricks) to ask a question. For the book you're writing, has the first idea changed a lot since you finished the first draft of the story? Did you originally plan for it to go another way, only for it to completely go the other direction? Was there a book or series that inspired you to write your story how you did? Out of the characters for your story, who's YOUR blorbo? I know you gotta have a secret favorite
Ooh man, Not Tricks, that’s a whole loaded question. Be patient with me please
So, the original idea of the draft hasn’t changed that much but I’m still editing. I’m focused on refining details and making sure things make sense. It’s a lot of rewriting and redacting and passive aggressive notes to myself in the margins
But my god has the story changed since my original conception of it. It’ll actually be 10 this May since the birth of the story idea. And the original idea was massively different, with it mainly being a crossover of a lot of different fandoms. There was even a Gravity Falls au for it. Maybe if I can find the original docs of those I’ll post them to show how drastically things changed
I was inspired by a mix of things honestly. My initial inspiration of various and unique colors of magic for users was from The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel. But certain parts of the story are inspired by different things. Like much of the realms and the Shadow Elves are inspired by Critical Role, as well as many of the gods in the story. The realm of the Shape Shifters is heavily inspired by steam punk and the Irish mafia. The Ogres and their society is heavily based on Vikings and Viking culture
And how dare you make me choose a favorite child. I simply can’t. Well I can. But it’s mostly based on what I’m focusing on at the moment. Like, I adore Mitchell and his history nerd ways and how I can sort of info dump through him. I love Eric and his redemption arc. I love Sucre and his rebellion against his family’s expectations. I love Nathan and his gray morals and kind of punk/fuck you world attitude. I love Yvonne and how in the end she isn’t truly a villain, just another victim of Edmund’s abuse
I love all of my characters, no matter how much I bad mouth or shit on them because they’re all terribly complex people with flaws just like us

I feel like my ve-ran-reviews of Modern Family suggest I don't like the series, but I do as a whole.
"Back in '68 I was sweeping up hair in that barbershop. I had this mental picture of the family that, if I was lucky enough, I would end up with. Perfect wife, perfect kids. Guess what? I didn't get any of that. I wound up with this sorry bunch , and I'm thankful every day for it." -Jay Pritchett s1 ep24
"Even with a spin up the coast, Phil will see what I see every day. The transformation that happens when our kids are locked in a metal box. The kraken that is unleashed...I love my kids very very much." -Claire s4 ep23
"5 o'clock Christmas Eve and I have to find a dozen presents for the world's snarkiest, cattiest men...my dear dear friends." Mitchell s5 ep10
Probably more quotes to explain that I love this series despite it's flaws and the varying degrees of those flaws, but I end this post with this one
"Casablanca." -Cam s1 ep3

PRISCILLA (2023)
Starring Cailee Spaeny, Jacob Elordi, Ari Cohen, Dagmara Domińczyk, Tim Post, Rodrigo Fernandez-Stoll, Luke Humphrey, Lynne Griffin, Dan Beirne, Olivia Barrett, Dan Abramovici, R Austin Ball, Evan Annisette, Stephanie Moore, Deanna Jarvis, Jorja Cadence, Josette Halpert, Stephanie Moran, Daniel Lipka, Raine Monroe Boland and Emily Mitchell.
Screenplay by Sofia Coppola.
Directed by Sofia Coppola.
Distributed by A24. 113 minutes. Rated R.
Elvis Presley was one of the biggest stars in rock and roll history, but he also had a tragic and troubled life. Therefore, it’s not surprising that Hollywood finds his story endlessly fascinating. Priscilla is the second big movie about his life in less than two years, following in the footsteps of Baz Luhrmann’s flawed-but-popular Elvis.
Okay, technically Priscilla is not the story of Elvis, it is the story of his ex-wife Priscilla Beaulieu Presley, but let’s face it, no one would ever go to see a movie about Priscilla if not for her tumultuous relationship with her charismatic, larger-than-life ex-husband. (Personally, I would have liked to see a bit of her Naked Gun years, but I suppose it is unsurprising writer/director Sofia Coppola decided to focus on the Elvis era.)
The film is a look at the power dynamic of the couple, and honestly that is the reason why it doesn’t quite make for a satisfying film. Let’s face it, Elvis had all of the power, a fact which is shown off again and again throughout Priscilla until she finally found the courage to leave the relationship.
After all, when they met, she was a shy, quiet 14-year-old military brat whose family was stationed in a foreign country. He was a 24-year-old superstar in the midst of a short-lived (less than two years) army stint which was undoubtedly set up by his manager as a publicity stunt. As shown in Priscilla, Elvis’ military stint hardly seemed like that of the average grunt. He had his own home, friends and relatives were allowed to stay with him, and he seemed to spend more time playing the piano and partying than actually dealing with combat. (He most certainly was not sent to Vietnam, even though he was in the army during the early phases of that war.)
Like most every girl in the world at the time, Priscilla was blinded by fame and had a bit of a crush on the glamourous star. And she was just a girl. (In fairness, although they met when she was 14, their relationship did not get romantic and sexual until a few years later.) She mostly meekly went along with pretty much anything that he told her to do.
Honestly, Priscilla is sort of overshadowed in her own story by the troubled-but-charismatic man she shared her life with.
It’s kind of surprising that Priscilla does not have any of Elvis’ music. Priscilla used to have some sway over the estate. However, maybe it is not all that surprising, as word has recently come out through Variety that Elvis’ daughter Lisa Marie read an early screenplay for Priscilla and wrote Sofia Coppola before her death, calling the script “vengeful and contemptuous” and begging her to change it. Since Lisa Marie at the time was in charge of the trust that handled Elvis’ musical rights (they are now handled by her daughter, actress Riley Keough) it’s not totally shocking that the film was denied the rights to his music.
Of course, Lisa Marie’s mother actually lived through what happened, while Lisa Marie was only a child when her father died. Priscilla Presley has been quite vocal in her approval of Priscilla, which is based on her 1985 autobiography Elvis and Me. It’s Priscilla’s side of the story, and honestly Elvis does come off as a major ass often enough – not that it is a total surprise that Elvis was a deeply flawed and drug-addled man.
The lead couple is well played by Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla and Jacob Elordi as Elvis. Spaeny in particular has a tricky role, playing a mostly reactionary role, and aging from a young teen into a grown woman. She gives Priscilla a depth that is not always in the screenplay. Elordi – who seems to be everywhere, suddenly, I’ve also seen him in Saltburn and The Sweet East in the last couple of weeks – does a fine job of inhabiting the contradictions of Elvis, showing his charming swagger and his selfish disregard for others.
Honestly, I’d have to say that Priscilla was more of an interesting film than it was actually a good one. I’m not sure I’d ever be tempted to watch it again, but I’m glad that I have seen it.

if you're still accepting asks for the Top Gun meme: 1 & 4?
Hi there!!
Sure, I'm always down to talk about my favorite dysfunctional, awesome af pilots :D
For the Top Gun Ask Meme
1. Who’s your favorite character & why are they your fave?
Look, I'm not even going to pretend that I love these movies and this fandom for any reason other than one Pete Maverick Mitchell. (And he's not my fave just because I've been a TC fan idk, pretty much my entire life, either. :D)
But these movies WORK because Mav is a great protagonist. He's allowed to fail and fuck up and be fallible (how many other F words can I fit in this description :D), he's allowed to grow and change and be complicated and contradictory, but also allowed to be deeply empathetic and vulnerable and human. And because he's allowed to be all of those things, the characters around him are also allowed to be complex and real and sympathetic.
Mav's a character who tries so hard, who feels so deeply, who is desperate to just find that feeling of family and belonging that was stolen from him when his dad's plane was shot down & his mom died of grief soon after. Which is why he clings so hard to Goose, and Goose's memory (and Carole and Bradley) and why he bonds so hard with Ice after their mission rescuing the USS Layton, and why he has such loyalty to Ice and Hondo and the Darkstar Team and the Dagger Team - but he's also just a disaster of a person when it comes to personal relationships, and I love that, because it's also real and relatable.
Because when you have a main character who is allowed to be a three-dimensional person with a past and with insecurities and doubts and flaws, it makes the rest of the characters interesting and great, because it's all feeding off that synergy.
4. What’s your favorite ship?
IceMav IceMav IceMav - look, they're the reasons I got into the fandom in the first place, however many years ago it was when Yuletide started. And the weird thing is (as most people who know me would tell you) I am not at ALL a fan of Enemies to Lovers. Most of the time, if 2 characters truly hate each other onscreen, there's a good reason for it, and it's not a sexy reason that I think hate sex will fix. (Not that I'm against hate sex, mind you. But I'm not a person who thinks antagonism is really just sexual tension in hiding. YMMV of course, that's why fandom is awesome.)
Anyway, part of the reason I really love them together is that they never fit that Enemies To Lovers mold - Ice is Mav's rival for the Top Gun trophy, yes, but Ice is never a dick to Mav for the sake of being a dick (unlike Hangman with Rooster, for example). Ice pushes Mav because he can SEE that the way Mav flies is going to get someone killed one day (which it did :((( RIP GOOSE YOUR LEGACY LIVES ON) and Ice doesn't want to fly missions with anyone who doesn't think about the safety of his wingmen. And he's right, which is the other refreshing thing - the first film allowed both of them to be right and to grow and to see each other's side. (Ice even - in his very Ice-like way, bless him - tried to comfort Mav after Goose's death, which is still a God Tier scene in any movie, and I'm pretty sure I could write an entire manifesto on how brilliant that tiny scene was and how high it set the bar for the antagonist/protagonist relationship - but I digress.)
Anyway, you couple all of that with the history they have and the way they've looked out for each other, and how much they clearly love each other, and yeah, those two are the gold standard of OTP.
But - and at the risk of this being even longer than it is (sorry not sorry), I am also deeply invested in the Bradley Bradshaw/Happiness ship, however he gets there. That boy needs ten hugs (at least 8 of them from Mav), a long nap followed by an even longer vacation, and to be allowed to exist outside his dad's shadow, and be Team Leader on whatever mission he flies next. (Okay, and a blowjob probably wouldn't hurt - not picky about who gives it to him, you could make the case for pairing him with anyone in the cast and I'd read it.)

PRAISE FOR So as Not to Die Alone by Lisa Johnson Mitchell
“Lisa Johnson Mitchell has the remarkable ability to craft entire characters –all their beauty and all their flaws –in a single, perfect sentence. These sentences then come together to make stories that are heartbreaking, tragic, sometimes absurd, and often hopeful. In the end, this sharp collection presents a brutally honest snapshot of both the anxieties and optimism of modern American life.”
–Samantha Mabry, National Book Award nominated author of All the Wind in the World and Tigers, Not Daughters
“The heroes and heroines in Lisa Johnson Mitchell’s debut story collection, So as Not to Die Alone, reach for connection even through their own jadedness and the static around them. Mitchell is a comic acrobat, her details startling yet perfect, her language playful and inventive, whether ships are sinking or somehow making their way back to the surface. A thoroughly rewarding debut.”
–Steve Adams, Pushcart Award-winning of Remember This.
“Lisa Johnson Mitchell‘s collection is a thought-provoking and emotionally charged journey that delves deep into the complexities of human experience. Through a diverse cast of characters, Mitchell expertly explores themes of sexual fluidity, loss, shattered dreams, addiction, and teen pregnancy with raw honesty and vulnerability. Each story is a masterful blend of pain and hope, leaving a lasting impact on the reader—a must-read for anyone looking for a powerful and moving literary experience. Lucia Berlin and Flannery O’Connor fans will relish this collection, stamped with a profound understanding of human nature. Mitchell’s writing is reminiscent of these literary greats and is sure to leave readers feeling deeply moved.”
–BlakeKimzey, author of Families Among Us
“The eight stories in So As Not to Die Alone, Lisa Johnson Mitchell’s debut collection, introduce us to intricately chiseled worlds where women feel unseen, children are tasked with caring for ailing and aged parents, and romances bud and take center stage. But in Mitchell’s inventive hands, these stories go places you’d never expect, pivoting into a territory of the heart on whose emotional bedrock we can all find sure footing. Often humorous, always heart-wrenching, these flash and short stories introduce a singular, bold voice that will have you laughing out loud even as you wipe away tears. Mitchell knows how to write sizzlingly hot dialogue and exquisite sentences (consider this one-two punch: “After therapy, he claimed to forgive Sheila, but she could see his lingering resentment like an aura.”). And while her characters aren’t afraid to wear their hearts on their sleeves, let it be known they suffer no fools. You’ll admire them, just as you’ll admire this new, gorgeous collection.”
–DS Levy, Award-winning author of A Binary Heart.
