Izuku and Ochako learned Shouto had never been to a carnival before and immediately had to rectify that.

Todoroki: Insane
Uraraka: It doesn’t make sense
Todoroki: Not at all
Uraraka:
Todoroki: You’ll do it?
Uraraka: Of course.

*ok so i know that shoto and ochako really don’t talk, and it’s very clear that ochako likes izuku, but i feel like they could have some romantic (or platonic) potential if they just interacted more and developed a friendship. it’s not like i necessarily ship them, i just think the dynamic of boy that’s rich asl w a strained relationship w his family & poor girl w a great relationship w her family could be a really interesting dynamic. like i can almost imagine shoto finding solace in ochako’s family (esp her dad) and him buying her things all the time. i know it’s such a random pairing, but i just think they could be really sweet together, even if it’s just as friends. hear me out 😭 *
it’s january, and shoto’s birthday is nearing. ochako doesn’t even think of getting him a present, they’re not close at all, really only friends by association. but then, to her dismay, the day before shoto’s birthday, she spots iida in a discreet area of the common room packaging an expensive looking bottle of cologne into a small, sophisticated little bag. he explains that it’s his gift for shoto, and that he’s going to help izuku and tsu wrap theirs. ochako’s heart drops slightly. well now she has to get shoto a present, she can’t possibly be the only person in the friend group without something for him. not only would it be embarrassing, but the idea makes her feel guilty. however, not only is she short of time, she also doesn’t feel like she knows him well enough to know what sort of present he’d like, and she certainly can’t afford something pricey like iida, so when she gets home, she practically begs her mom to help her make something, anything.
the day of shoto’s birthday, ochako rushes to him to give him her present first before anyone else does, that way if he’s disappointed (which she’s certain he surely will be) his spirit may be lifted by the others’ lavish, more thoughtful gifts. in ochako’s hands is a bundle of wool, knitted together to form a rushed, somewhat poorly made scarf. she almost shoves it into his arms, her cheeks warm and flushed, like she can’t bear to hold it any longer. her nerves kick in, and she begins to ramble, apologizing that she initially wasn’t going to get him anything, but then felt bad and so stayed up with her mom well into the evening making the scarf for him, threading together colors of red and white, to match his hair. shoto doesn’t say anything, just blankly stares at her and blinks once, slowly, like a little kitten. ochako feels imense embarrassment bubbling up inside of her, silently chastising herself for giving him such a woolly mess of a gift. but then she hears a small, soft voice utter the words “thank you.” her head snaps up from the ground she’d been timidly staring at. shoto’s brows are slightly furrowed, almost inquisitively, and he wears an expression on his face that ochako finds unreadable. he can’t quite understand why she went through so much trouble for him, but it’s somewhat endearing to him, and he feels a sort of new fondness for the rosy cheeked girl standing in front of him.
shoto wears his new scarf everywhere, replacing the soft cashmere one his father had bought him a while back. every time he wraps the red and white thing around his neck, he’s very conscious of the fact that uraraka had made it thinking of him, even though he’d never done anything of the sort for her. his old scarf was stationed in every high end store in japan, made and designed for anyone that could afford it, but this scarf, ochako’s scarf, was made just for him, and he felt a strange warmth in his face every time he thought about it.

Shoto’s birthday tends to be a simple celebration. Large specials have never been his thing, preferring to spend the day with those he genuinely cares about, the ones who genuinely care for him.
A typical Shoto birthday starts with lunch with Rei, Fuyumi, and Natsuo, enjoying the familial bonds over cold soba and a few other traditional dishes. He may not have been able to spend much time with them growing up, but he treasures being able to connect and get to really know them.
The next part of a typical Shoto birthday is a late dinner with the rest of Class A, which also doubles as a private party. Whenever one of their old classmates has a birthday, they all try to take day shifts to be able to meet up later that night, and Shoto is no exception. They all share cake and gifts, reminiscing on memories and stories involving Shoto. The parties never last more than a couple hours, allowing everyone to go home and rest up for another day of work.
The final part of a typical Shoto birthday involves returning back to the apartment he shares with his romantic partners: Izuku and Ochako. They don’t do anything particularly fancy together, simply enjoying enjoying each others’ company as Izuku and Ochako pepper little kisses on Shoto to make sure he knows he’s loved. He returns their kisses, thanking them for being in his life and making it better.
A typical Shoto birthday looks incredibly simple from the outside. But it’s full of love and people he wouldn’t trade for anything, and Shoto enjoys his birthday just the way it is.

Shouto and his adoptive sisters, part 2
Asui is the older sister to two younger siblings. I headcanon that she talks to Todoroki like how she talks to them - not condescendingly, but patiently and encouragingly.
They get closer after Asui cried in front of him and the other kids, who sneaked away to Kamino. Todoroki was reeeally sleepy, but he still felt bad about having a part in her distress, so he tried to talk to her more afterwards.
When the weather turns cold, Todoroki and Asui also end up next to each other more often; first on the school bus, then anywhere else. Todoroki gets some comfort out of seeing how his fire, which he had rejected for so long, can be helpful to others even outside of battle - be it to keep Dark Shadow obedient to Tokoyami, or to keep hibernation away from Asui.
I saw a fan comic somewhere, in which Asui brought Todoroki a cup of tea and he accidently refers to her as “nee-san”.  I headcanon that this has happened more than once. Todoroki’s cheeks turned rosy the first couple of times, but then Asui demanded that he call her “Tsu-chan”. Somehow he felt even more embarrassed by that.
As such, Asui remains “Asui” when they are with others. She accepts this, because when she’s alone with Todoroki-chan (and after a while, also when they're alone with the rest of Dekusquad), she gets to hear “Tsu-nee-san.” Todoroki does so completely nonchalantly, and also ignors that he's actually a month older than her. Considering how he doesn’t use honorifics with any of his other classmates, and how his speech is rather coarse in general, this feels quite special.
...
It seems like, barring Deku and Bakugou, none of Todoroki’s classmates suspected anything about his family drama, until Dabi broadcasted it for the whole country to witness. However, I headcanon that Uraraka and Asui subconsciously sensed some of Todoroki’s complicated family life. Or at least, they picked up on the fact that he grew up in a very strict environment.
[Tangent: I’m unsure whether Iida ever picked up on anything prior to Dabi’s dance. He is probably Todoroki’s closest friend (alongside Deku), and he cares a lot. But Iida also tends to be blind to emotional undercurrents. In one of the light novels, he accidentally pisses Todoroki off by telling him off for how he refers to his father.
Along with Iida, Uraraka and Asui - financial difficulties, and being promoted to the main caretaker of younger siblings aside - also had a happy home life. One’s own reality can make one blind to the realities of others.
While Asui has also displayed a certain rigidity in her thinking (her infamous comment before Kamino), growing out of a black and white mindset/ a mindset that is too rigid, was a central part of Iida’s character arc. I also feel like Asui would be more sensitive than Iida to the fact, that some families are much more complicated than others. – tangent end.]
I headcanon that Uraraka and Asui tried extra hard to include Todoroki in their conversations and activities, which contributed to him warming up to the rest of the class much faster than he might have had otherwise.
