More Twst x Stardew things

The Royal Sword Corporation opened one of their stores in town years ago. Crowley hates it. He hates the manger, Ambrose, who wants him to sell the community center so they can open another Royal Sword Business in town.

Che'nya works at Royal Sword Mart. Neige actually got his big break from Royal Sword. He got cast in a commercial for it, and it did so well that he's the face of a whole ad campaign now. Vil is angry and jealous because he also auditioned for that role and Neige got picked over him.

Vil still acts and models, but it's on a much smaller scale compared to Neige. Like he gets hired a lot to do ads and commercials for businesses in town, and in all the neighboring towns, to the point he's kind of a local celebrity in the area. He keeps visiting the city to audition for theater, but so far nothing. He ideally would like to move to the city to pursue bigger roles, but it's just not in the cards now.

The witch that turns your eggs into void eggs at night is Malleus grandma. He gets embarrassed, and has tried convincing her to get a different hobby, to no avail.

Fellow and Giddel are event characters. They get hired to work at the county fair during the fall, and sometimes stop by on the Night Market. There's a quest where you can befriend them so they can move into town, and Giddel can join the other kids on their lessons.

Leonas family is very well off. After his father passed while Leona was still a minor, Falena took custody of him, and he still lives with Falena and his wife, Asha. The Kingscholars were successful in their careers and had plenty of money. Like the farmer, they wanted a change of pace from city life and bought a nice inn just outside of town. Falena runs the actual business while Asha still works as a lawyer. Leona is taking online courses while working at the inn. Ruggie also works there and often has to keep Leona on track.

Ace is a carpenter, and was like Robin, the first person in town to greet you and show you to Ramshackle Farm. And like Robin, he also called your grandpa's house crusty. He also has beef with your cat, Grim. Everytime he comes by to work on something, they have a stare off.

Jade is still interested in foraging, and often gives helpful tips, like what is in season and where to find it. His favorite gifts are any mushrooms.

The mermaid who does a show at the Night Market is Rielle.

Ortho, Najma, and Cheka are like the Jas and Vincent in town. They're the local kids you always see running around, along with everyone else's little siblings, like Jack's brother and sister.

Since there's more than two kids in town in this au, there is an actual school house in the area. It's right next to or is connected to the library, and Clara is the local teacher. Trein helps her out by doing the history lessons. Clara will give the older kids their lessons in the morning before doing their more independent study time and class work in the afternoon while she teaches the little ones. Trein usually keeps an eye on the older kids while they work in the library. It's hard though, Lucius keeps demanding their attention when they're supposed to be doing homework.

Ramshackle is still haunted. There's ghost all over the property, and they mostly show up at night. But they will sometime show up indoors, like in the house, sheds, and greenhouse.

If you marry Leona, he will nap in the greenhouse.

If you marry Deuce, he will work on his bike outside.

If you marry Vil, his post marriage heart event is him going away to work after taking a bigger role. Kinda like Elliot going on his book tour.

If you marry Cater, he will post about living on a farm. He will absolutely make vlog type videos going "My day in the life of a stay at home farm husband."

Do you know how hard it is to be all prim and proper in pomefiore??” He groaned,” all the ‘elbows off the table Epel’ and ‘Epel that’s not the salad fork that’s the fish fork’ What even is a fish fork??? Why do you need more than one fork one fork works just fine!!”

Rook stares at you for a few seconds, and you can’t really tell what he’s thinking until he says,” What might ligma be?”

You , burst out in giggles. Rook however, only lightly chuckles.

“My trickster your humor is as melodic as the sweet singing of a bird,” he pulls out a creepily perfect rose from out of thin air,” Would you care to join me in seeing the film Bofa?”

Vil told you to come over so he could do your makeup for some publicity event NRC was doing . So obviously you showed up because let’s be real , you didn’t have a choice.

“Thank you for being punctual prefect.”

“Yeah yeah.. So what do you need me to do?”

He stares at you for a second like you asked the dumbest question he’s ever heard. “I need you to sit.”

You walk over to the vanity seat and sit down (it’s very comfy 😼😼) ,” Dang dang I’m sorry I’m sorry I had too much up dog this morning for breakfast.”

“Potato. Don’t consider me so stupid as to fall for your silly ploys.”

Then he starts doing your makeup, “Vil do you know why I need to go to this event in the first place?? It feels kind of ligma to me.” You ask.

“Potato, the headmaster invited you. So you must go,” he pulls your hair out of your face a bit rougher than needed,”- now quit asking questions and be still you’ll crease the foundation.”

When he finishes you look like you eat 3 healthy meals and day and have your life together, like the embodiment of perfection ,” Thanks vil !! I look so pretty-“ you lift your hand up to touch your face.

● Of course! :D As someone who also suffers from mood swings (slightly similar to Floyd's case), I usually tend to often be quiet most of the time when alone because after staying in a public setting for too long I tend to be more emotionally and physically drained (talking or doing activities makes it faster to that point) which that starts to cause my mood swings. The time I really can get a break is when I’m asleep so yeah. ':)   Also I'm really happy that you enjoy my stories! Thank you and have a nice day anon! ^0^

Summary: You’re a friend of Vil’s, who often suffers from mood swings and comes to him for help or feel at ease to him. (What he did the first time he’d see you go through mood swings, what he does now, how he helps or treats it, ect.)

-The first time you’d shown mood swings in front of made him both concerned and worried for you! Like he’s busy doing dorm leader stuff and suddenly a small thing that was you started to (possibly strangle) hug him! It would take quite some time for you to actually speak to talk about how this is a normal thing for you but really needed comfort that time.

-And trust me, THIS MAN IS WORRIED AND A BIT SAD ON THE INSIDE HEARING THAT. The way how you consider that normal when it can be emotionally and physically draining for you makes him worry so much! Vil would try to create a potion that would help stabilize your emotions momentarily while he would try to find people with similar experiences as you so he can better make another potion for you! 

-Even now, when he see’s you starting to get mood swings he’ll drag you out of where ever you are so that he can take a potion and take some time out of talking, doing certain things, ect. He’ll either make you sleep somewhere, on his shoulder or his lap even! He wants to make sure that you’re comfortable when resting and able to calmly recover! 

-However in more tougher cases when you’re protecting him from some person (who even has the stupidity to pick a fight with Vil in the first place lmao) expect him to wait a bit longer before he snatches you away and makes a run for it!

“You may be all looks but I bet that you’re pretty weak! I suggest you hand over your homework answers before things get ugly!” The two Savanaclaw dorm members say to Vil, stupidly not knowing his real identity. As Vil was about to say anything he’s moved out of the way by a small figure, being you and don’t seem to be in a good mood. “Ah Vil! Are these your friends by any chance?” You warmly smile to them yet Vil can feel a sense of anger from that. “Like we’d ever be with this loser, dwarf looking *ss!” “As expected from Vil’s standards. You’re both too f*cking crusty and pitiful looking to even be considered acquaintances with him!” As you laugh like a snake sticking their tongue out, making sounds of a hyena. “You b*tch! You’ll regret saying that!” As one of them starts to lunge towards Vil, you jump off the ground, stepping on their body as both leverage and to make them fall down, but to kick the other Savanaclaw member’s ass in the face with your fists, socking him in both rage and thrill . As students and a teacher started gathering to see the fight, Vil grabs you by the wrist to tug you away from his so that both of you can make a run for it before the teacher can notice you’re gone. Vil surprisingly running way faster than you even in heels yelling to you, “RUN FASTER B*TCH! RUUN!” “I F*CKING AM AND THIS IS MY BEST!” You yell back to him as you both laugh. 

-You still got caught though since Cater was also there, recording the fight with your face visible in it but not Vil’s (lmao). However he was able to treat your mood swing before you were taken away by a teacher to talk about the fight. Vil was honestly shivering his timbers by the small possibility that the potion will wear off and might start disrespecting the teacher (though gratefully it didn’t happen).

-Whether or not other people see it, you both are obviously comfortable near eachother that you would even pull that off in the first place, causing some chaotic energy in the air! And believe me, even if Vil hates showing that side to other people, he’s THAT comfortable with him being near you that he wouldn’t mind doing that again! It makes him very happy that being perfect in your eyes is just settling down and taking a break when you need to. He’s very grateful that he can be free to settle down when he’s with you. :(( <33

IT'S A PROBLEM WHEN PEOPLE CAN SEE MASC CHARACTERS AS ACTUAL CHARACTERS WITH A PERSONALITY AND BACKSTORY AND WELL MADE DESIGN BUT WHEN THEYRE A WOMAN SUDDEN LYN THEY CAN ONLY PERCEIVE THEM WITH JUST BIG BOOBS BIG ASS TINY WAIST AND CLOTHES SO SCARCE THEY COULD GO TO A BEACH AND STILL GET MISTAKEN AS GOING IN THE NUDE. DO YOU ONLY PERCEIVE FEM CHARACTERS ARE SOMETHING TO SEXUALISE. IS THAT THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN GIVE THEM APPEAL? like i like both gorgeous men and really fucking crusty men and if they're being genderbent they damn well be gorgeous and really fucking crusty respectively. if a masc character inherently and intentionally dresses promiscuously or revealingly it'd likely make sense for their fem counterpart to dress the same way, unless the way they experience femininity drastically differs to how they experience masculinity, and it thus impacts their presentation. if a masc character dresses modestly or covers up a lot then it'd likely make sense for their fem counterpart to dress the same way, unless, again, for the reason above.

prime example of a genderbend appearing drastically different to their og version is fem!vil dressing masculinely because vil's character is inherently based in opposing gender norms. another example is fem!epel being very tall, buff, and handsome because og epel is based in stereotypical masculinity that demands those same traits lest you are less of a man. likewise, fem!epel would be based in toxic femininity, or the need to conform with softer traits of feminity in order to be seen as the girl she wants to be. however, characters like fem!jamil and fem!riddle may adhere to stereotypical feminine presentation because of cultural and societal norms they cannot oppose or choose to follow if their character is inherently based on following it. most characters may not have gender and presentation as a core aspect of their person so they simply just dress stereotypically feminine or a branch related to it, like fem!trey, because it doesn't matter too much to them that they adhere to the norm. im on my knees begging for artists to start seeing fem characters as more than something to be sexualised all the time and. you know! as characters with complexity to enjoy!

My favorite genre is Sexual Horror, which means I am heavily interested in works focusing with sexual abuse, incest, and pedophilia. Character Profile: Henry King, Jr. (Brainwave, Jr.)

Since I already talked about Jennie and Todd, it’s time to profile the third corner of their weird little triangle: Hank! A.K.A. Brainwave, Jr., a strong contender for the dumbest codename in the DCU. Bless his heart.

CONTENT WARNING: So much ableism and stigmatizing of mental illness, you guys. Also a little brain-related body horror.

Like Jennie and Todd (and Al), Hank first showed up in the 80s as a founding member of Infinity, Inc. Unlike every other member of the team, though, he is not the child or successor of a Golden Age hero, but a Golden Age villain - specifically, his father Brainwave. Hank inherited his dad’s psychic abilities, but luckily not his looks:

A truly unhinged way to introduce yourself to the JSA, Hank: show up in disguise as your evil father, make fun of them, attack them, and then ask for help. Incredible.

During the course of the first Infinity, Inc. arc, the elder Brainwave does the only decent thing he’s ever done in his life, and sacrifices himself to save Hank. As he dies, he transfers his powers to his son’s brain:

This does not end well for Hank. Actually, it doesn’t begin well, either - Hank starts hallucinating his father berating him at inopportune moments:

On the other hand, Hank does end up in a very cute relationship with his teammate Jennie, as we discussed in her profile:

Awww, they’re cute! They probably lost their virginities in that cave! Good for them, I guess!

Hank also makes a connection to another member of the team: their leader, Sylvester Pemberton, the original Star-Spangled Kid and later Skyman. Syl is a Golden Age hero, but thanks to travel shenanigans, he’s only in his very early 20s, around the same age as the II kids. He also has an adopted sister, Merry, who became the obscure superhero Gimmick Girl...and who also happens to be Hank’s mother. How Brainwave Sr and Merry even met, let alone why Merry married a decades-older, extremely evil, crusty little nugget of a supervillain, is never explained.

Anyway, this makes Sylvester Hank’s uncle, a fact that they are both pretty gleeful about judging by the frequency with which they refer to each other as “uncle” and “nephew” throughout the rest of the series. So it’s pretty hard on Hank when Syl is murdered, leading to the disbanding of Infinity, Inc. At this point Merry was dead (she’s later retconned to be alive), so Hank has just lost his last living relative and his only support network, which may partially explain why things suddenly go...really, really badly for him.

By which I mean, he disappears until the mid-90s and then completely arbitrarily attacks a branch of the Justice League:

Oh BOY.

Yeah, so Hank is a villain now, and also “crazy,” in the thoughtlessly ableist comic book-y sense of the word. For absolutely no reason, he has decided to honor his father by attacking a team full of people with zero connection to his dad and barely to him (he met Captain Atom once, back in the 80s). I cannot overemphasize how much this character assassination is not explained and has zero buildup. I think it’s supposed to be funny, hence Hank constantly declaring himself to be “eee-vil”? But, like, it’s not.

Also, he shaved off all his beautiful hair! I’m so sad.

Hank next appears in the Green Lantern/Sentinel: Heart of Darkness miniseries. I talked about it in the Jennie and Todd recap, but suffice to say: everything about it is awful. The plot revolves around Jennie’s mysterious abduction, for which Hank is only a red herring, but it’s revealed that Alan has funded a private asylum solely for the purposes of incarcerating Hank and keeping him away from Jennie. It’s...brutal, and deeply disturbing:

There’s so much wrong with this. The breathtakingly offensive depiction of mental illness. The fact that Alan, a supposed hero, would do this - and Kyle, Todd, and even Jennie don’t seem to care in the slightest. The one doctor we see, who gushes about how fascinating a subject Hank is to study, but says nothing about helping or treating him - and Alan explicitly says all he cares about is keeping Hank locked up. The vague sense that this is Alan’s punishment of Hank for having had sex with Jen. Also, how did Alan even get any of this power over Hank? Why was he allowed to do this? It’s monstrous and I hate everything about it.

A few years later, Hank escapes (how? we don’t know) and attacks Kyle, Jennie, and Alan:

Honestly I’m kind of on Hank’s side here. (His calmness here is explained by having found the right combination of medications, which...may or may not be true, as we’ll see.)

We next see Hank a couple years after that, as part of a JSA storyline. Black Adam and Atom-Smasher (Hank’s old II buddy Al Rothstein) form a splinter group of JSA-ish characters who are willing to cross lines the JSA won’t. The group includes Hank and another former Infinitor, Norda, presumably on Al’s invitation because, like...he’s the one who knows them. I talked about this arc in more detail in Al’s profile, but essentially, they kill a terrorist, then go to Adam’s home country of Kahndaq, kill its current dictator, and put Adam in charge. War breaks out, and the JSA shows up to intervene.

Hank is very in control and more powerful than we’ve ever seen him, but he also seems to have zero scruples left:

That narration is from Black Adam, and his reference to “helping” Hank is also the reason that Hank has gotten so coldly vicious: Hank isn’t driving the bus anymore.

See, when the JSA invaded Kahndaq, they also brought the Atom, who decided to shrink really tiny and climb around in Hank’s brain for...reasons? And he discovered that he wasn’t alone in there:

Yeah, that’s Mister Mind, a Captain Marvel villain. It’s...not totally clear what the sequence of events was here, but I’m assuming Hank escaped from the asylum on his own, Al invited him to the antihero squad, and then Adam put a worm in his brain? I have to assume Al didn’t know about Mister Mind; Al has made some poor choices at this point but he would not do that to a friend.

Anyway, the Atom defeats Mister Mind, the JSA takes Hank back, and then we get the laziest possible resolution to everything that has happened to Hank over the past decade:

Yeah so basically when Hank’s father uploaded his powers into Hank’s mind, it caused a weird, tumor-like growth that made him massively more powerful but also drove him “““crazy,””” for terrible ableist comic book definitions of the term. But Mister Mind ate most of the growth, so Hank’s fine now! And still one of the most powerful psychics on the planet!

Oh, and that woman in the middle there? That’s his mother, Merry. You know, the one Hank believed to be dead, the one who he said he saw die? Yeah, around when he was stuck in the asylum she showed up in Young Justice, totally fine, never mentioning she had a son. So. (This is obviously a continuity error, but my headcanon to make it work is that Senior made Hank believe he’d seen Merry die. Maybe even put a compulsion on Merry to keep her from contacting Hank or Syl? I wouldn’t put it past him!)

(And while we’re talking about Hank’s family, I should also note that Hank technically has a sister, Jacqueline, who briefly took up the codename of Gimmix in honor of Merry. She only appears three times before dying, it’s unclear if she and Hank have the same father since her last name is Pemberton, and she and Hank never interacted in canon. So...there’s that.)

Hank teams up with the JSA once more when they have a problem that requires his particular skill set, and he seems to have made peace with...everything:

Hank, this costume sucks.

Hank then goes to the fictional South American country of Parador and winds up taking care of a bunch of children who have had genetic experiments performed on them by the evil government/drug cartels running the country (this story is WALLOWING in racist stereotypes). He also grows out white guy dreads, which is...a choice:

Like. Hank definitely discovered weed in Parador, and I’m happy for him but also think he should probably shave his head again.

Annnd that was the last we saw of Hank before the New 52 wiped out his entire generation and reset the original JSA back to younger, shittier versions of themselves. Hank and his father do show up in the New 52 but now they are French??? Their names are both Henri Roy??? Also Hank is a teenager. Anyway those versions sucked and they’re gone now so who cares.

Original Flavor Hank was restored to the DCU actually before the rest of the Infinitors, since he had a non-speaking cameo in Justice League: No Justice back in 2018, but as of last year’s Infinite Frontier, he has definitely been restored along with his team, with his full history presumably intact, although he’s only appeared in flashbacks so we haven’t technically seen him recently.

Buuut you can see him tomorrow, in my fic for HankTodd Weekend! And hopefully Hank will return to comics soon now that JSA characters are showing up again. Fingers crossed!

I wonder if they know that liking a character =/= condoning their actions

They made another post on this same issue that I will show in a bit in the answer to another ask, but it's just...I'm so perplexed. First of all, people have been simping for Frollo himself since the og movie came out, no one cared about who he was as a character because they were all adults with braincells who could understand that "oooh crusty gilf with a side of religious trauma who sings Hellfire" and "that man is a violent racist and predator" were not two things meant to be tied together when discussing him. I'm not judging, my tastes can get questionable at times to.

Second, the whole point of TWST is making people LOOK at the og characters through the lens of a new generation falling into the same or similar pitfalls that their predecessors/idols did, while also having the chance to be forgiven because they were misguided, not because they actually wanted to, say, rule over people with an iron fist (Riddle) or straight up kill their rival to ensure their success (Vil). It's meant to make people think that these villains were all people (not human per say but "people") who were not given that second chance, were not stopped before it was too late, and were not guided to the right path.

People are so quick to dismiss "evil" as something only being done by monsters, that human beings are not capable of it, but that's so wrong.

And that's where I hope the new event takes us. This new guy, Rollo or whatever his name is, is clearly meant to be the antagonist of the story. But TWST has yet to give us someone who is completely unredeemable, and I doubt they're going to waste a good character design and Live 2D model for that. We just have to wait and see what happens, because if his introduction was any indication, he clearly has it out for Malleus (and potentially fae as a whole) for some reason.

But how is that any different than Sebek? Who we have been shown countless times talking down to humans (events and main story), including his own father, and having to be corrected and reined in by Lilia, Silver, or Malleus. His internalized racism is a huge talking point in the fandom. We don't know what this new guy is planning on doing, but I think ethnic cleansing is a bit out of TWST's pay grade and I highly doubt it would go over well in any board room if they suggested it. Just look at the (justified) reaction to the microagressions from the JP Fairy Gala event, even from the JP audience. The event was just released, let's give it some time before starting the riots (again).
