So glad to have this hood done with the wet weather moving in as it is. It's wool, and very cozy. The pom on the end is fox fur from a local trap-line!

"The Yukon is giving residents up to $1,300 a year for dental care bills that aren't covered by other forms of insurance.
The program, that started taking applications on Wednesday, covers all dental treatments that will relieve pain or infection, treat cavities and restore chewing function. Routine procedures, like dental cleanings, will also be covered.
Stephen Doyle, the Yukon's acting deputy minister of health, said the program should be able to help up to 8,000 Yukoners.
"We've already received a few applications," Doyle told CBC. "The intent is to get them processed as quickly as possible and get people ... seeing the dentist as soon as they can."
The program is open to Yukoners that have a territorial healthcare card, no other dental insurance plans and make less than $60,000 per year as an individual or less than $90,000 for individuals with two children. After that, the threshold increases with family size.
The Yukon already has a dental care program for children under 12. Any children that are not eligible for this program could be eligible for the territorial dental plan if their parents still meet the income bracket requirements.
People will have to re-apply each year to the program.
The government is committing $1.8 million towards the program. Doyle says that should be enough money for all 8,000 Yukoners who could be helped by the program, even if they max out their benefit."

You go outside and it just looks like that. Washington and Oregon in USA? Blue. British Columbia and Yukon Territory in canada? Blue. No filters in the making of twilight.

"Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Saturday that on his order a U.S. fighter jet shot down an “unidentified object” that was flying high over the Yukon, acting a day after the U.S. took similar action over Alaska.
North American Aerospace Defense Command, the combined U.S.-Canada organization that provides shared defense of airspace over the two nations, detected the object flying at a high altitude Friday evening over Alaska, U.S. officials said. It crossed into Canadian airspace on Saturday.
Trudeau spoke with President Joe Biden, who also ordered the object to be shot down. Canadian and U.S. jets operating as part of NORAD were scrambled and it was a U.S. jet that shot down the object.
F-22 fighter jets have now taken out three objects in the airspace above the U.S. and Canada over seven days, a stunning development that is raising questions on just what, exactly, is hovering overhead and who has sent them.
At least one of the objects downed was believed to be a spy balloon from China, but the other two had not yet been publicly identified. While Trudeau described the object Saturday as “unidentified,” a NORAD spokesman, Maj. Olivier Gallant, said the military had determined what it was but would not reveal details."

sign post forest, watson lake, yukon. it all started with one sign during construction of the alaska highway in 1942, and now 80 years later there are 100,000 signs from all over the world. it's easy to spend hours here getting lost in the stories and creativity of so many people who all made it to this one spot.

An investigation into unmarked graves and the deaths of children who attended the former Chooutla Residential School in Carcross, Yukon, has found 15 “potential” gravesites at or near the school.
Researchers say they've also used archival documents to identify 33 students who either died at the school or shortly after being injured there.
Brian Whiting, with B.C.-based company GeoScan which performed the ground-penetrating radar search, says “more invasive” work would be required to confirm if the sites are graves, but their location is consistent with accounts from survivors.

The Ice Bear Cometh.
It is a two-hour helicopter ride from the nearest town to this spot on the Fishing Branch river in Canada's Yukon territory, a location where the river never freezes, however cold it gets. The salmon run occurs in the late autumn here, and for the grizzly bears of the area, the open water offers a final chance to feast before hibernating. It was averaging about –22 degrees Fahrenheit (–30 degrees Celsius), and Andy Skillen had been waiting and hoping that one particular female bear would use this log to cross the stream. Eventually she did just that, and he got the picture he’d envisioned—her fur, wet from fishing, had frozen into icicles and "you could hear them tinkle as she walked past." #
