The Marble Head of Apollo Unearthed in Greece
The excavation, carried out by a group of students of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in the archaeological site of Philippi Kavala, brought to light important findings. Among other things, they discovered a rare head of Apollo dating back to the 2nd or early 3rd century AD.
The statue dates back to the 2nd or early 3rd century AD and it probably adorned an ancient fountain.
Natalia Poulos, Professor of Byzantine Archaeology, led the excavation, which included fifteen students from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (11 undergraduates, 2 master’s, and 2 PhD candidates), Assistant Docent Anastasios Tantsis, and Professor Emeritus of Byzantine Archaeology Aristotle Mendzo.
Archaeologists say, this year the excavation continued east of the southern main road (decumanus) at the point where it meets the northern axis of the city (the so-called “Egnatia”). The continuation of the marble-paved road was revealed, on the surface of which a coin (bronze phyllis) of the emperor Leo VI (886-912) was found, which helps to determine the duration of the road’s use. At the point where the two streets converge, a widening (square) seems to have been formed, dominated by a richly decorated building.
Archaeologists say evidence from last year’s excavations leads them to assume it was a fountain. The findings of this year’s research confirm this view and help them better understand its shape and function.
Tumblr media
The research of 2022 brought to light part of the rich decoration of the fountain with the most impressive statue depicting Hercules as a boy with a young body.
The recent excavation (2023) revealed the head of another statue: it belongs to a figure of an ageneous man with a rich crown topped by a laurel leaf wreath. This beautiful head seems to belong to a statue of the god Apollo. Like the statue of Hercules, it dates from the 2nd or early 3rd century AD and probably adorned the fountain, which took its final form in the 8th to 9th centuries.

In classical Greek and Roman religion and mythology, Apollo is one of the Olympian gods. He is revered as a god of poetry, the Sun and light, healing and illness, music and dance, truth and prophecy, and archery, among other things.
Philip II, King of Macedon, founded the ancient city of Philippi in 356 BC on the site of the Thasian colony of Crenides near the Aegean Sea. The archaeological site was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016 for its outstanding Roman architecture, urban layout as a smaller reflection of Rome itself, and significance in early Christianity.

Something possessed me to draw a hc mom character for Aphelios and Alune....enjoy? Headcanon info under cut lol
Adelos was just another warrior devoted to Lunari cause, acting as patrol to look out for Solari that might attack them. She never married and got pregnant during a one-night stand (it gets lonely out there ok). No idea who the father is….mostly bc I didn't wanna design a dad
A seer took notice that the birth of her children might be during a Lunar Convergence, so she was promptly sent to the temple to be taken care by the Lunari religious leaders. She also was promoted to be a temple guardian just to keep her in the inner Lunari circle. When the twins were born, she did allow the leaders to raise them as the prophesied "children of destiny." Like most Lunari, she believed this was for the greater good of her people. Of course she still was allowed to visit them whenever she wished.
Unfortunately the Solari heard about this news, and perceived the twins as a threat. They sent assassins after to kill the fated children, but Adelos and her squad was able to intercept this…at the cost of her life. Adelos was given an honorable funeral and venerated, but her role as the mother of the twins were never disclosed to anyone outside of the Lunari religious leaders. Tragedy was too common among them, and it would merely be a distraction to the twins if they knew…
FYI, Adelos is just me adding an "A" to Delos, the island where Artemis and Apollo were born. Also in Greek it means "Invisible"…which is fitting bc she will never be remembered by her children :)

Do you have any TOA fic recs?
Oooh ok let me think.
The classic, Were I That Burning Star by @californiannostalgia. Seriously this fic is incredible and I think anyone who’s been in the fandom since like 2020 would cite this as a formative part of their fandom experience. The original Apollogist fic lol.
Speaking of older fics, A Convergence of Apollos by Keyseeker (@flightfoot) has always been a favorite of mine. I cannot believe this fic is almost 4 years old, but I remember following it religiously when new chapters were coming out. All the characters have incredible interactions, and Keyseeker’s writing is just amazing in general. This is definitely one to check out! (p.s. I know Keyseeker has a fic rec of her own, so if you want more after my list, check out hers!)
Anything by @tsarinatorment, but especially her newest fic, Eclipse. I know a lot of work has gone into this fic (At least from what i’ve read in the ToA discord lol) and it’s absolutely paying off I am obsessed.
There are a couple of reading the books fanfics for ToA, but I have a soft spot for Secrets of the Sun by @sierice and @ukelele-boy. it hasn’t uploaded in a bit, but the fifteen chapters that are out are pure gold and I love them lots.
Speaking of reading the books fanfics (or watching them, in this case) I cannot leave out the God’s Eye View series by Keyseeker (still @flightfoot lol). Like I said earlier, her writing is stellar, and she does so much interesting character work with the gods. If you wish Olympus was focused on more in the Riordanverse, these fics are for you.
And another fanfic of this genre (Can you tell it’s a favorite of mine?) Hidden Oracle by Kaeyuh (I'm not sure if they have a tumblr sry!) is one I’ve recently been enjoying. The characters are super solid and I’m excited to see what directions it goes in, definitely a great fic to follow!
Both Cooler Than Me and The Tail of A Pollo by ceruleancats (@falconfrost) are so sweet and I love them, definitely check them out.
OH ALSO. Apollo and the Aftermath!!!! Which is apparently also by ceruleancats and I didn’t realize!!! Trust me this one is so good. I swear Apollo’s pov sounds like it’s straight out of the books it’s written so well.
(un)normal by m_arnie (@m-arnie-xx) was written for sunflower sibs september and it’s so good, literally so good pls read it. Honestly all the fics from sunflower sibs september were great, it’s a collection on ao3 (sunflower siblings september 2022) if you want to read them all
Speaking of that, we've had two years of ToApril and both of them have had a lot of incredible fics, so if you want a lot of ToA content I'd go there. I believe both are also collections on Ao3. This year was under ToApril 2023, and predictably, the year before is ToApril 2022. Lots of fics to enjoy!!
@firealder2005 has recently made a series called The Works of Apollo and I am obsessed??? Definitely a great read, they're so so good.
There’s so many more fics that have been written and are amazing, but I don’t want this post to go on for too long, so here are all the recs I have off the top of my head! Honestly, this fandom is blessed with some stellar fic writers.

Do you know any games about building houes or settlements? I had an idea about a minecraft one shot but haven't found anything that fits.
Hello! I have a few that might fit the bill. Here are a number of great town (and world)-building games for you to check out!
Theme: Town-builders.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Grasping Nettles, by adamebell
A small town lies stranded on the wrong half of a planet split in two. An isolated city of flame stands in defiance of a frozen wasteland. The moon colony established by the Apollo 11 mission finds life-lengthening compounds on its surface. A city explodes out of the Prismatic Sea at the convergence point of dozens of leylines.
Grasping Nettles is a worldbuilding game for 1-6 players about a community and its story over the course of generations. You take turns dictating various things about a world of your creation. On your turn, you move one of three faction pieces around a central game board called the Wheel and perform the action you land on. Actions include defining factions, describing locations, discovering issues, creating characters, starting projects, catching glimpses of other communities, and framing scenes.
The art for this game is intriguing and draws you in; and the open-endedness means that you have the liberty to be as creative as you desire! It’s designed to help you build a world where you can then proceed to play in, regardless of which system you choose afterward. The game comes with seeds of worlds in case you have trouble getting started. There is also a design guide, as well as a space supplement called Stellar Nettles that you can check out, created by emmv.
Ex Novo by Sharkbomb Studios.
Ex Novo is a playable city-generator that helps you construct, and populate fictional villages, towns, and cities. This physical game can be played solo or with up to 3 friends. Playtime ranges from 1 to 3 hours.  Meet with your friends, and collaboratively draw the map of your city as you explore the history of its founding, and the forces, factions, and events that shape its development.
The three of you are playing as guardian spirits of a freshly founded settlement. You use d6s and some sets of tokens throughout three phases that set the scene, play out your city's history, and then culminates in a wrapping-up scenario that ties up loose ends. Things will be added to this city as you play, but they might also be taken away! When you're done, you have a city to play with (or just look back and revel in)!
Sharkbomb Studios has also created a dungeon creator in the same spirit as this game, called Ex Umbra.
Before the Beginning, by Rafael Carneiro Vasques
"You and your family are survivors. You survived the old world, you survived each other. Now I'm asking you to survive once again. We need to rebuild the world or we will be part of it's ruins. Yes, cities, communities, pretzels, laughs. We need a city to be citizens. We need houses to belong."
Before the Beginning is a game of scavengers and their families struggling to build a city in a post-apocalyptic world. You will face moral challenges and dangers of all sorts: witches, doomsday religious cults, cyborgs, mutants... everything to build a home, to belong somewhere. Once the city is built, you can finally rest. Until there, there's no room for cowards.
This is a game of exploration and survival - it comes with one page for the players, and one page for the narrator. Building a shelter is if premium importance in this game because you need it to survive - however you’ll have obstacles, such as enemies, injuries, and environmental hurdles to deal with. The layout itself is rather minimalist, reflective of the stark nature of this game.
If you want a game that is incredibly focused in genre and goal, without a lot of rules or lore to figure out before you play, I’d recommend Before the Beginning.
Homes found in Unusual Places, by somewhere with stories.
A collaborative storytelling game about building homes and creating the characters who might live there.
You are playing a game in which each story told adds a layer to a home. The game comes with a list of options to choose from, but it also encourages your own creativity! As the home gets bigger, the stories that surround it (and the people who live in it) grows and grows. You’re going to need a pack of playing cards in order to play this game, rather than dice of any kind. If you want to stretch your creativity in a game that has suggestions, but no dedication to a specific list of prompts, this might be worth checking out!
Beak, Feather & Bone by Possible World Games.
Beak, Feather, & Bone is a collaborative worldbuilding tool as well as a competitive map-labeling RPG. Starting with an unlabeled city map, players are assigned community roles before taking turns claiming and describing locations. Players draw from a standard 52-card deck to determine a building's purpose and then describe its beak (reputation), feather (appearance), and bone (interior). As buildings are claimed, a narrative for the town and its inhabitants emerges, including major NPCs and shifting power-dynamics.
This is a highly-lauded game that allows your characters to watch a city form in front of them, and give them a setting all their own. If you like the mechanics of this game, and want to flesh out your setting even more, another game that uses a similar system but for character and faction generation is Smoke, Fuel & Fire by eldritch mouse.
Greetings From, by C.R. Legge.
Greetings From ______ is a mapmaking/worldbuilding game for 1-6 players. Players take turns moving around the map and creating what they find there. Work together to build a unique world that can be used for other role-playing systems, creating stories, or whatever else you might want to use it for (because sometimes you just want to make a cool map).
This is a game that depends on dice rolls to tell you what kind of feature you’ll be adding to a map. There’s a few rules that you can choose to include on your map-making game, but the basic rules just require a couple of d6s and the breadth of your imagination. The author has a single-page version and a brochure version - which provides you with a grid to use for your map and is honestly, really smart in it’s layout in terms of use of space.
i'm sorry did you say street magic? by Caro Asercion.
An archipelago-based fishing town, separated by its various islands, gathers annually to celebrate the turn of the harvest.
A collective of magical artists embarks on an ambitious project: a guerrilla public transit system powered by enchanted street art.
In a sprawling metropolis decades from now, breakthroughs in biotechnology offer citizens superpowers far beyond mortal ability.
This city that we call home has a magic all its own. It is wonder, and joy, and spirit — and with that spirit, we breathe life into our city together.
i'm sorry did you say street magic is a GMless city-building story game for two to six players, that runs three or more hours.  Discover and imagine a city filled with life and vivid detail, packed with a myriad of neighborhoods, landmarks, and residents. Discover their true names, and the ways that they intersect—then set events in motion that will change or alter their relationships.
This is an enchanting game, with the breadth you need for any city, whether it be fantastical, futuristic, or modern-day. You can mix and match with different themes, and each player has a chance to imbue the city with their own personal touch. At the end of every round, one player instigates an event that will certainly stir up excitement, but wil usually won't be resolved by the time the game is over. If you're looking at establishing a setting for a game with distinct city sectors and characters that act as emblems for a larger neighbourhood, if you want a game that hands a series of story hooks over to the GM by the time you've finished, this is absolutely the game for you.
The author has also written a supplement that you can use to generate true names if you want some inspiration. It is called there are names more powerful here than our own.

Rubber Ducky, You're the one.
John 'Soap' MacTavish x Fem!OC
Tumblr media
Ludwig was a cold, hard man. His time had aged him, and it was visible in the white streaks and greying hairs mixing in with his raven black.
But? He was a damn good doctor.
Brutal.
He'd put his boot to your throat if you wiggled as he ripped a bullet from your abdomen.
It's also why he was honorably discharged and came back as a PMC. There is a fine line to walk, especially with the Hippocratic Oath.
Even moreso when you take it as a minor suggestion.
I swear by Apollo Healer, by Asclepius, by Hygieia, by Panacea, and by all the gods and goddesses, making them my witnesses, that I will carry out, according to my ability and judgment, this oath and this indenture.
He'd been dragged over half the goddamn planet during any given year, the real excitement of finding out if your practice would be a empty closet or dining table in the safehouse, or an actual office where you could compare the varying shades of yellowing white paint.
But, another very important concept for contracting a medic would be intelligence.
They didn't need to know a soldier's name,
Let alone ask questions about a mask.
They were all hiding demons of their own, so who were they to judge?
It was beneficial.
Ludwig was contracted with the 141 for not only his exceptional track record- well, mainly his exceptional track record. But on top of that, it always helped to be someone John Price could trust.
There had been more than one occasion when Ludwig's eyes still glittered with youth that he'd dragged the young lieutenant into the sidelines to rip a bullet from his flesh. Be the convincing force in an interrogation or someone that would share a cigar with him and enjoy a shared silence after a mission well done.
Their paths dived and converged throughout their career, eventually ending with Price calling upon the man five years ago.
"I need someone I know I can trust." Price had said.
That made the sinister grin creep onto his face.
And with that, he became their medical practitioner.
Their doctor.
The one to stitch them back together.
Mend their wounds.
He'd joke, he was there to kiss their boo-boos.
It was in that fifth year of him working with the task force that he was forced into his own leave.
"To make good on a favor."
Price was one not to press.
The less he knew the better.
But he needed someone he could trust.
An ally.
Someone that Ludwig would trust-
he needed someone that could get the job done.
The team doesn't take well to change.
So Price needed someone that Ludwig would recommend.
His apprentice-
was that the correct phrasing?
They weren't actual doctors, were they?
Either way, the day Ludwig left, he left a single white card- thick cardstock sharp around the edges with a phone number printed into the thick paper.
Nothing more.
He'd filed the paperwork, it had seemingly gone smoothly.
All he would have to do is wait for this new medic to arrive.
And wait he did.
The chopper landed, allowing her to grab her bags and hop out from under the thunderous beast and out toward the man standing on the tarmac to greet her. Striding out- half jogging to reach him she looked up.
"Captain Price!" She called out a kind, warm greeting.
"Miss Robberts, it's great to finally get you here."
"Call me Ducky." She shoots him a crooked grin.
Price couldn't help but recognize it as being so similar to the crooked grin Ludwig would always shoot.
"You apprenticed under Ludwig?" He asks.
"Indeed, he told me y'all were in need to have someone trustworthy that could get the job done. Who better than someone he taught himself?" She snickers, proudly holding her shoulders and puffing her chest out.
Price nods, leading her toward one of the large buildings scattered around the compound.
Walking in through the door, she was met with what she could only assume to be their primary living quarters.
"They're out training, so you'll be able to settle in just fine until then. You'll be in Ludwig's old room."
She nodded, following him to her new quarters, dropping her bags inside the room, and continuing to follow the tour of the building.
"This is our... Infirmary." He steps to the side, boasting a single office building, a table tucked into the wall and a desk pushed into the corner. "There's another Infirmary, but this is where our in-house doc stays."
"Assuming there's the territorial pissing match of military doctors to PMC's?"
Price chuckled, lifting a hand up and rubbing the back of his neck. "Glad I don't have to explain it."
"Nah, you're good. You wanna let me rummage around in here and find out what the old man left me and you can go about your day Captain?"
"I'll leave you to it then." He nods, leaving her in her new domicile.
Hope Ludwig left the Q-Tips.
....
"Sargeant Mactavish, but everyone calls me Soap." He extends a hand out to her, and she gives him a firm handshake.
"Nice to meet you Soap. I hope we keep our interactions minimal." She says kindly- it wasn't a bad statement. It was true, to an extent. The less you saw the medic it was the less you were injured. Not something bad to wish upon someone.
He laughed, dropping his hand and turning to the Humvee. "Dontcha' worry 'bout me then. Us Scottsmen have thick skin."
"And a thicker head." Price stated, walking up behind the two.
"Captain." The two of them greet.
"This is just a normal- run-of-the-mill supply drop out to one of our sat bases. I'm having Ducky run out with you just in case any medic services are needed but aren't being fulfilled. In and out."
"In and out." Soap echoes.
She climbed into the vehicle- passenger seat with Soap clamoring into the rig to start it and begin driving.
"So you know Ludwig?" He asked, shooting her a side glance.
"Yes. I was his apprentice."
To hold my teacher in this art equal to my own parents; to make him partner in my livelihood; when he is in need of money to share mine with him; to consider his family as my own brothers, and to teach them this art, if they want to learn it, without fee or indenture; to impart precept, oral instruction, and all other instruction to my own sons, the sons of my teacher, and to indentured pupils who have taken the Healer’s oath, but to nobody else.
"So you know how much of a rank prick he can be?"
"Would assume so, heard I'm meaner though."
"Bit to small to hold me down in the field and pick a bullet from my ass."
"I'd simply sedate you."
Soap couldn't tell if that was a joke or not.
The drive was long, but no issues along the way it would seem.
"So..."
She glanced over, shooting him a look. "Hm?"
"Ducky."
"That's my name."
"Bit cute, innit?"
"Suppose so."
"Why do you call yourself Ducky?"
"Why do you call yourself Soap?"
"Touche... You met the rest of the team yet?"
"No, just you and Price."
"Don't let em' scare you. Buch a' softies."
"I'm sure."
It went smoothly, honestly. She'd swear on scouts honor- not that she had any. But arriving to the Sat location was a breeze. Mainly a supply dropoff- not much more than that to it. There were no injuries needing to be tended to that weren't already tended to.
Dare she say it was going as a pretty good run.
But that's usually when things go to shit.
That's right about the time that it did.
You know, it's funny how those things go.
It's funny how everything goes, really.
She'd laugh about this in a few hours, probably.
But right now she was seething.
Her first time out with a new teammate and it goes mach 5-level shit against the fan?
She'd yelled into the radio, demanding immediate medical evac for the group of wounded men she was tending for. One in particular of her primary interest.
Soap.
She was currently sitting on top of him- she was sure if he was breathing he'd be making some quip about it. Pushing her hands down into his chest with compressions.
The helicopter landed against the tarmac, back to the larger infirmary- one she wasn't introduced to and medics were already pulling the gurney from the helo- all with her continuing her compressions.
There were garbled voices, questioning, yelling, the groans and moans of the injured filling the space around her.
They were pushing the gurney now, double doors flying open as she continued compressions.
"How long have we been without a pulse?" Someone asked.
"Twenty." She seethes out, her breath ragged as she continued CPR.
I will use those dietary regimens which will benefit my patients according to my greatest ability and judgment, and I will do no harm or injustice to them. Neither will I administer a poison to anybody when asked to do so, nor will I suggest such a course. Similarly I will not give to a woman a pessary to cause abortion. But I will keep pure and holy both my life and my art. I will not use the knife, not even, verily, on sufferers from stone, but I will give place to such as are craftsmen therein.
"You need to call it." A woman said.
"Go fuck yourself." She seethes out.
The sound of the flatline ringing in her ears while an oxygen mask was pushed up to his face.
She lifted her hands from his chest, frantically looking around for anything-
oh goody.
Have you ever tried to start a lawn mower, and it just wouldn't start?
So your good ol' dad lumbers out with the saunter- the one with a beer in one hand, cig hanging from his lips, and that good ol' boy starting fluid in the other?
He said when he was younger he'd huff the stuff, not now.
Give it a spritz into the carb and give her a rip.
Well, adrenaline was the starting fluid of the human world.
Probably why they gave her such a limited supply.
Afraid they'd catch her huffing it in the broom closet at school.
They never caught her.
There were hands on her- a petite little nurse, cute thing really grabbing onto her arm and trying to pull her off of Soaps rapidly cooling body.
She reached her hand out- spreading her fingers wide and pushing against her face, stiff-arming her and sending her clattering to the floor.
She'd send a 'sorry you were in my way' card later, but there was a task at hand.
Into whatsoever houses I enter, I will enter to help the sick, and I will abstain from all intentional wrong-doing and harm, especially from abusing the bodies of man or woman, bond or free. And whatsoever I shall see or hear in the course of my profession, as well as outside my profession in my intercourse with men, if it be what should not be published abroad, I will never divulge, holding such things to be holy secrets.
Was it about saving a fellow teammate?
Kind of.
It was more about avoiding a giant pain in the ass.
Don't think the team would be very much fond of her if she let their dear old little Soap die the first time she was sent out with him, would they now?
Her hand gripped around the pre-measured syringe of adrenaline, spinning- lifting her arm, all with a fury of passion to slam the needle down directly into his chest. Dispersing the liquid energy into his heart.
Call it a hail mary.
"Fuck!" She yelled out- maybe a little too loud because the commotion had gathered the attention of the doctors- as well as a security officer.
"Get her out of here!" One of them yell.
She scrambled over, grabbed another syringe, and plunged it into his chest-
almost immediately his eyes flashed open and his entire body heaved forward, oxygen mask wrapped around his face as his eyes scattered to try and find anything-
landing on Ducky- bloody, dirty, and with one of the smuggest grins the man had ever seen plastered on his face.
"Welcome back, Suds."
Two security officers grabbed her from under the shoulders, heaving her off of the gurney and cuffing her wrists behind her back, dragging her out of the door.
They dragged her surprisingly back to the 141s hub of operations- or as Ducky called it- the love shack.
She'd long sense stopped walking out of spite, allowing them to drag her the entirety of the way. Slamming open the door and throwing her down onto the ground.
Looking up, she saw three men, Price tapping his foot anxiously, a larger man in all black pacing back and forth, and a dark-skinned man leaning against the wall, anxiously sucking on a cig.
"Doctor Johnson highly suggests you not step foot anywhere near the infirmary, or you will be arrested."
"Lick ass you mall cop."
The two huffed, leaving her on the floor with the cuffs around her back still.
"You gonna uncuff me you fuckin'-"
"Ducky." Price says, immediately silencing her.
"Yea- fuck." She sighs, sitting up and rolling her shoulders. "He's fine Revived him before they dragged me off."
"He's alive? They just said he was dead-" The man leaning up against the wall spoke, pushing off and walking toward her.
"Thinkin' that was before I punched Tinkerbell and sunk a twofer of adrenaline into his chest."
She couldn't tell if it was a look of horror or relief.
She sighed, laying down on the cold cement floor and rolling over onto her stomach. "Can someone be a dear and pick this for me?"
"Price- this is our new medic?"
"Ah, yes. Gaz, Ghost. This is Ducky- Ducky, meet Gaz," He points, "nd Ghost."
"Lovely. Thinking we can have a tea party now to celebrate my newfound banishment from the infirmary."
Maybe it wasn't too bad of a first impression.
Now if I carry out this oath, and break it not, may I gain for ever reputation among all men for my life and for my art; but if I break it and forswear myself, may the opposite befall me.

So: this isn’t just Klavier sleeping. This is one of the few moments Klavier can be Klavier. And he trusts Apollo enough to share it.
In that moment, everything converges. It’s one of those seconds where everything is just so and you know it deep in your bones. You know it deep in your bones and you know, in some absurd cosmic way, that things have been leading up to this maybe forever.
I love you, Apollo realizes.

I just realized Apollo has a LOT of atlas motif in their design for someone who didn't know about the atlas. (At least I don't think they did my memory is dogwater)
Like imagine someone who dresses like the pope and has never heard of Christianity
firstly i must apologize to you for how long you had to wait for a reply. a number of things had happened (dw they were wonderful things :))
Tumblr media Tumblr media
apollo you're very funny
apollo knew about the concept of the atlas but they didn't believe in its existence. they were an atlas atheist!! until it stood right before them and gave them an existential crisis. that was what it took for apollo to become an atlas believer.
apollo probably didn't have the option of choosing bodies after whatever incident they had BECAUSE THEY WERE WOUNDED TO THE POINT OF HAVING TO TRANSFER BODIES THEY WERE INCAPACITATED TO NEAR DEATH.
whoever chose their body for them clearly didn't consult their personal tastes, as they're not an atlas fan at all. the one(s) who picked out the body clearly was though. and there's no other race as atlas crazy - and technologically advanced - as the korvax. so yeah i think the korvax were responsible for their body!
They must've associated apollo's travellerness with the atlas and thought 'oh a traveller! highly esteemed being sent by the atlas itself, oh how wounded you are. We (the convergence) shall place you in a body befit of your divine status.' after the body transfer apollo probably did not acknowledge their thoughtfulness. they went a bit overkill with the atlas motifs on apollo who couldn't even appreciate them that much.
it's like if jesus didn't know god was his dad (for analogy reasons) but everyone else did, and they gifted him all kinds of christianity related objects because he's god's special little boy. A lot of things would go right over jesus's oblivious head (who for analogy reasons isn't a christian and has also never heard of christianity either).
and after their existential crisis due to the atlas apollo might've started looking at their atlas motifs a bit differently. maybe it's only then that they finally understood the artist's intentions. also i'm very sure their body was custom made (without consulting them first) because who has bodies like that casually sitting around in stock??? they may not have consulted apollo for their fashion tastes but they probably did think very hard on the design to make it truly befit of apollo's divine status as a traveller.

it’s still so funny to me that donna tartt was like “i think the first duty of the author is to entertain; i think it is a moral duty” and the new york review of books went “this is the death knell of american letters. this heralds the infantilization of literary culture. this is what happens when adults read YA”
like the sanctum sanctorum of US lit crit trotted out their brightest luminaries and the best material they could muster was a grievance post you’d find on tumblr about tenderqueers who lack reading comprehension and/or the stomach for “nuanced/complex/challenging/transgressive” art driving publishing demand toward fluffy, undemanding fare called Peter & Apollo Waltz Among the Stars or whatever. all Discourse converges toward the most inane center and it does not hold. it does not cohere! it’s not true!

Deep dives into folklore: Italian folklore
Tumblr media
Italian folklore is a rich tapestry woven with threads of ancient traditions, mythical creatures, and timeless tales. Rooted in a history that spans thousands of years, Italian folklore reflects the diverse cultural influences that have shaped the country. This week aims to take a deep dive into the enchanting world of Italian folklore, exploring its mythology, legendary creatures, and the enduring narratives that continue to captivate imaginations.
I. Historical Context:
To understand Italian folklore, it's essential to delve into the historical context that has shaped its narratives. Italy's geographical location at the crossroads of various civilizations, including Etruscan, Greek, Roman, and Byzantine, has contributed to the rich tapestry of stories that form the basis of its folklore. The interplay of cultural, religious, and social influences has given rise to a unique blend of myths and legends that continue to permeate Italian society.
II. Mythological Pantheon:
Italian mythology draws heavily from its ancient Roman roots, with a pantheon of gods and goddesses who embody various aspects of life and nature. At the heart of this pantheon is Jupiter, the king of the gods, along with his consort Juno, and sister Minerva. The stories of their interactions, conflicts, and relationships with other deities shape the mythological landscape of Italy.
The influence of Greek mythology is also evident in Italian folklore, with gods like Apollo, Diana, and Mercury finding a place in the collective imagination. The fusion of Roman and Greek mythologies has given rise to a unique blend of divine characters that populate the tales of ancient Italy.
III. Legendary Heroes and Heroines:
Italian folklore is replete with legendary heroes and heroines who embark on epic quests and face mythical challenges. One notable figure is Aeneas, the Trojan hero who played a crucial role in the foundation of Rome. His journey, as chronicled in Virgil's "Aeneid," serves as a foundational narrative in Italian mythology.
Another iconic figure is the medieval knight Orlando, whose adventures are chronicled in the epic poem "Orlando Furioso" by Ludovico Ariosto. Orlando's exploits, alongside those of other knights and heroes, contribute to the rich tapestry of Italian chivalric folklore.
IV. Folkloric Creatures and Beings:
Italian folklore is teeming with a diverse array of fantastical creatures and beings, each with its own unique attributes and significance. From benevolent spirits to malevolent monsters, these entities populate the cultural imagination of Italy.
Fairies and Spirits: Italian folklore features benevolent beings such as the "Befana," a kind-hearted witch who delivers gifts to children on Epiphany Eve. Other spirits, like the "Lares" and "Larvae," are guardian deities of households and ancestral spirits, respectively.
Monsters and Malevolent Beings: The folklore of Italy is also populated by menacing creatures, such as the "Lupo Mannaro" (werewolf), the "Strega" (witch), and the "Banshee-like" "Striges." These beings embody the darker, more mysterious aspects of Italian folklore and have been the subjects of cautionary tales for generations.
V. Folk Traditions and Celebrations:
Italian folklore is not confined to ancient myths and legends; it also encompasses a vibrant tapestry of folk traditions and celebrations. Festivals such as Carnival, with its elaborate masks and lively parades, and the Feast of St. Anthony's Day, marked by blessings for animals, showcase the enduring influence of folklore on Italian cultural practices.
Italian folklore is a captivating realm where ancient myths, legendary heroes, and fantastical creatures converge to create a rich cultural heritage. From the heights of Mount Olympus to the depths of enchanted forests, the narratives of Italian folklore continue to echo through the centuries, connecting the past with the present and providing a profound glimpse into the collective soul of a nation. As these tales persist and evolve, they weave a timeless narrative that transcends generations, ensuring that the magic of Italian folklore endures for years to come. once, future gods please 👀👀👀
once, future gods is what i call my "modern greek mythology universe". it is vague at best because the rules that apply to something like astral convergence aren't the same for, say, antigone's modern lament. it's more about the ✨️vibe✨️ and that they all Could exist in the same universe.
here are the wips that fall under this category
astral convergence: my darling. my love. in this modern au artemis and apollo left olympus and became assassins for hire after killing the children of niobe. now a group of mortals and goddesses (but Especially their stepmother hera) wants them to kill zeus, their father and king of the gods. narrated by artemis in first person referral with apollo as "you", the job is muddied by their own complex relationship with each other and towards zeus. this wip has some of my Favourite prose, i really just need to... actually figure out the sequence of events to get from point a to point b. artemis is living through a never-ending existential crisis while she grapples with her divinity, as she is relatively a very new goddess
Tumblr media
she's history, & hyacinthus,: in like 2015 i was part of a greek gods rpg where i played the muse of history clio so naturally i became obsessed with her. in this rpg a relationship sprung between her and the bodyguard of zeus, kratos. this has 0 mythological backing but it holds a special place in my heart so now i must write for them because if i don't no one else will. she's history, follows clio's spiral after finding out she's pregnant (in the mythology she's hyacinthus' mother) so she asks kratos to get her out of olympus, all kratos can offer her is one night as he has to be back by zeus' side come morning. hyacinthus, is kind of a continuation, kind of an au where clio moves in with kratos and his sister bia and lives with them in a little rundown apartment.
oh, glory!: my iliad au where the trojans and the achaeans are rival gangs. that's it. that's the plot. i started writing this because when i took greek lit 1 in uni my class came up with this elaborate au where briseis died instead of patroclus and how or if that would change the course of events. now i'm sticking closer to the actual text but ✌️ yeah
Tumblr media
the moon like a thin smile: sort of like an au to astral convergence?? because while being aroace is a huge part of artemis' character in astral convergence, moon like a thin smile is me indulging in some orion/artemis because deep down i will always be that 15yo girl* who got way too attached to this pairing despite it barely having any mythological backing. i did a combination of things to make it interesting: the world is recovering from the titanomachy still, which has left everything in a post-apocalyptic state, and the first ever winter (hymn of demeter!) is underway. this will have a sad ending
Tumblr media
antigone's modern lament: a post-apocalyptic retelling of antigone by sophocles, my favourite play <3 started out as a hadestown au that sprung in my head while we watched a movie adaption in my greek lit ii course, this was 2019 and i was obsessed with hadestown at the time. so i imagined a version where antigone is "saved" from hanging herself in the cave by persephone answering her lament and inviting her to hadestown (which kills her anyways but... y'know). this short story is none of that! i am doing away with the hadestown angle and just telling it straight with the modern twist
moonburn: a retelling of the death of orion by the hands of artemis due to apollo's trickery, my Favourite version of his death just for the drama. this could potentially count as a prequel to astral convergence, as orion's death is a a huge source of conflict between artemis and apollo in that

When you go so far off the rails writing Ace Attorney roleplay with your boyfriend that it begins to include things such as:
- Evil, abusive Phoenix Wright planning a terrorist bombing to kill his co-lawyers in revenge for a perceived lack of control (in this timeline, he hates Apollo since he reported Phoenix for clearly selecting a biased party with the AJAA jury among other crimes)
- Blackquill, who of course is dating the real Fullbright, going on a revenge mission to murder Phoenix Wright. Both parties disappear for three years.
- A convergence of the GAA characters into the plot. This is revealed to be part of the machinations of an organization named True Justice and their primary leader, Just Authority, a robotic insane murderer with the power to meld timelines together due to something something science experiments.
- Trucy almost is killed by a drunk Valant Gramarye, who Just Authority convinces to kill for the sake of getting famous.
There are no longer any wheels on this bus but we're still somehow picking up speed. God help me.
