Twice last week I've heard from I hate to say it, but [white] males about hunger in the US. First from a Republican Minnesota State Senator Steve Drazkowski. Who claims he's never met a hungry person and that hunger is a relative term. (source Phil DeFranco show) In his state alone 1 in 6 kids are going hungry. He wants to fight against a program that would give all children in his state free breakfast and lunch at school mostly due to its cost. Now here's the kicker if what he's said isn't bad enough, Minnesota has surplus of state funds. It's not as though they don't have the money. Luckily the bill he was fighting against passed. But the fact he was fighting against feeding children. Seriously wtf!
And then Bill Maher on his show on Friday echoed the same kind of sentiment with the comment about is there really anyone in America going hungry.
All I could fucking think was how many others are this out of touch with real Americans?
Hunger in America or food insecurity as they call it now. Here some facts:
'More than 34 million people, including 9 million children, in the United States are food insecure.' (source Google)
Is this a blindness caused by the wealth gap in our country? Do they choose not to see it or do they have enough money to insulate themselves from those realities like yes alot of Americans go hungry and there not just children.
How many people see the numbers and either disregard them or straight up don't believe them at all? With our wealth gap it's really not that hard to understand that hunger would be a huge issue in the US. Not with inflation out of hand its an even bigger problem. I have notice some foods have started to come down at the grocery store but somethings just keep going up everytime. Now imagine that for a family, with children. When the price of feul, utilities, rent, babysitter or daycare, a car payment, prescriptions, doctor visits, I can keep going. No one getting paid more.
Then we have asshole politicians (because I have little doubt that Senator isn't the only one in our government that thinks that way about hunger in America) and a talk show host that's completely lost sight of what is happening to regular Americans. I really think we have a tip of the ice berg situation going on, that isn't good for anyone especially those of us that need help!

So there's this thing going on recently... I don't think it's tumblers fault... but @staff you guys need to take this kind of behavior down.
Will you ever suddenly just get a new follower and you go check their blog to see if they're legit and there's nothing on that blog like not one damned post. But there's an avatar alright... and it's always of a woman, but not a face sometimes...
And there's just a one line description and that's it... she's what, this slim lady who is like 18-22 years old... with her only definition being this one hobby but nothing about it, not a post on her blog....
But there's a banner image right? and many times it's *inappropriate* like NSFW.
Like ma'am are you okay with showing that outrageous image of yourself?
See, here many people out there DO NOT WANT TO ASSOCIATE with such vulgar-ness. To be very frank, the only intent I see in this is that these account are porn accounts run by bots.
But those are images of real people... like remembering how people say they pull your image off of your Facebook to do bad things? If these accounts are indeed run by bots, the images they have used may or may not be intently consented or stolen.
(Don't get me wrong, I'm not opposing wearing bikinis which for most of em that's all that they're ever in... I'm not. So please don't feel offended anyone. This post is purely an observation and a notice to bring to account. It's not about the outfit at all, it is the image that concerns.)
And it's not like one or two people like this are following me. No. IT'S A WHOLE BLOODY INFLUX!
Like imagine just sauntering to tumblr, your one hideout, and checking the notes and suddenly you have three more followers and all are just like this* (I would have put up a more neutral veiwable example, but I rather not)
But this is not the only thing going on... no. Once in a while, you'll get like a dm and ahem* no. You do not get to walk into my inbox and send in porn with a stupid message when I do not consent to it. It's cyber crime if you have malicious intent.
Either they're bots or they are troublemakers. Tumblr please take this in account.

Getting inspired to write is actually really easy! All you need to do is be the busiest you've ever been in your entire life and as far away from a computer as humanly possible. Hope this helps 🥰

I think the invention of the term "traumadump" has done discussion of mental health a lot of harm. I keep seeing discourse vs whether or not it's okay to talk about heavy topics with your friends, and like... I feel like there is a very big and important difference between my definition of traumadumping (ie. Frequently and habitually diverting your conversations with others towards your own misery, often with the goal of focusing attention and sympathy towards yourself at the expense of those around you, and without recognizable effort to reciprocate your empathy towards those you are speaking to or to ensure their comfort) VS the mere act of having heavier conversations with those around you. I've seen a lot of backlash to the idea of traumadumping as a concept lately (they paywalled human connection etc etc) but I think it's worth recognizing there is absolutely a kind of behavior that can create a negative feedback loop with this stuff. Especially if you navigate a lot of spaces in social media, it's not uncommon to find people dropping really heavy stuff on complete strangers unprompted. Idk, I think there's a degree of nuance to be had that's maybe getting a bit lost due to everyone having different definitions of what it means to "trauma dump."

You need to make art that nobody else likes. You need to make art that speaks to you alone. You need to cradle a serpent that eats its own tail and you need to love it until it loves you back

Seeing other writers on tumblr talk about writing is so validating because all of them are basically:
“I hate writing but I love it more than anything but it’s agony but I have a million stories to put to paper but I barely ever write a word”
And like I’ve always felt this way and I worried it meant I wasn’t supposed to be a writer, which tore me to shreds. But no. That’s just the curse of being one, I guess.

the thing is there's like, a point of oversaturation for everything, and it's why so many things get dropped after a few minutes. and we act like millennials or gen z kids "have short attention spans" but... that's not quite it. it's more like - we did like it. you just ruined it.
capitalism sees product A having moderate success, and then everything has to come out with their "own version" of product A (which is often exactly the same). and they dump extreme amounts of money and environmental waste into each horrible simulacrum they trot out each season.
now it's not just tiktokkers making videos; it's that instagram and even fucking tumblr both think you want live feeds and video-first programming. and it helps them, because videos are easier to sneak native ads into. the books coming out all have to have 78 buzzwords in them for SEO, or otherwise they don't get published. they are making a live-action remake of moana. i haven't googled it, but there's probably another marvel or starwars something coming out, no matter when you're reading this post.
and we are like "hi, this clone of project A completely misses the point of the original. it is soulless and colorless and miserable." and the company nods and says "yes totally. here is a different clone, but special." and we look at clone 2 and we say "nope, this one is still flat and bad, y'all" and they're like "no, totally, we hear you," and then they make another clone but this time it's, like, a joyless prequel. and by the time they've successfully rolled out "clone 89", the market is incredibly oversaturated, and the consumer is blamed because the company isn't turning a profit.
and like - take even something digital like the tumblr "live streaming" function i just mentioned. that has to take up server space and some amount of carbon footprint; just so this brokenass blue hellsite can roll out a feature that literally none of its userbase actually wants. the thing that's the kicker here: even something that doesn't have a physical production plant still impacts the environment.
and it all just feels like it's rolling out of control because like, you watch companies pour hundreds of thousands of dollars into a remake of a remake of something nobody wants anymore and you're like, not able to afford eggs anymore. and you tell the company that really what you want is a good story about survival and they say "okay so you mean a YA white protagonist has some kind of 'spicy' love triangle" and you're like - hey man i think you're misunderstanding the point of storytelling but they've already printed 76 versions of "city of blood and magic" and "queen of diamond rule" and spent literally millions of dollars on the movie "Candy Crush Killer: Coming to Eat You".
it's like being stuck in a room with a clown that keeps telling the same joke over and over but it's worse every time. and that would be fine but he keeps fucking charging you 6.99. and you keep being like "no, i know it made me laugh the first time, but that's because it was different and new" and the clown is just aggressively sitting there saying "well! plenty of people like my jokes! the reason you're bored of this is because maybe there's something wrong with you!"
#this was much longer i had to cut it down for legibility#but i do want to say i am aware this post doesnt touch on human rights violations as a result of fast fashion#that is because it deserves its own post with a completely different tone#i am an environmental educator#so that's what i know the most about. it wouldn't be appropriate of me to mention off-hand the real and legitimate suffering#that people are going through#without doing my research and providing real ways to help#this is a vent post about a thing i'm watching happen; not a call to action. it would be INCREDIBLY demeaning#to all those affected by the fast fashion industry to pretend that a post like this could speak to their suffering#unfortunately one of the horrible things about latestage capitalism as an activist is that SO many things are linked to this#and i WANT to talk about all of them but it would be a book in its own right. in fact there ARE books about each level of this#and i encourage you to seek them out and read them!!! i am not an expert on that i am just a person on tumblr doing my favorite activity#(complaining)#and it's like - this is the individual versus the industry problem again right because im blaming myself#for being an expert on environmental disaster (which is fucking important) but not knowing EVERYTHING about fast fashion#i'm blaming myself for not covering the many layers of this incredibly complicated problem im pointing out#rather than being like. yeah so actually the fault here lies with the billion dollar industries actually.#my failure to be able to condense an incredibly immense problem that is BOOK-LENGTH into a single text post that i post for free#is not in ANY fucking way the same amount of harm as. you know. the ACTUAL COMPANIES doing this ACTUAL THING for ACTUAL MONEY.#anyway im gonna go donate money while i'm thinking about it. maybe you can too. we can both just agree - well i fuckin tried didn't i#which is more than their CEOs can say

you wanted zoro to be on whole cake island to fulfil your weird desire to see zoro punish sanji. I wanted zoro on whole cake island because I think he's stupid enough to right place wrong time the plan and accidentally marry Sanji in full view of the whole wedding party in what becomes the most elaborately constructed comedy of errors ever written. we are NOT the same.

the amount of trans people i see who are scared to identify as straight is mind boggling. like people who will explicitly say that they are scared to identify as straight. i can only amount it to the growing preceived divide between being straight and being queer, where people arent learning that you CAN be both if youre trans. and ive experienced a lot of hostility just for being an opinionated straight trans guy on this app. like i dont care if you dont think this is a "real problem," i do. i think queer people should be free to feel comfortable in their identity, and if that identity is het-leaning, heterosapphic, het-dyke, hetgay, queerhet, transhet, or literally just straight and heterosexual, they should be free to
