Nyx Headcanons

Headcanons for my favorite little bean, because we don't talk about him enough.

He 100% inherits Rhys's "earth-shattering" power. That extra chapter where Feyre and Rhys were deciding on a name and basically felt powers shifting in the Force when Nyx came up makes me firmly believe that.

He's a good, sweet kid but also goes through a few phases where he's an absolute nightmare to raise through no fault of his own. Nyx is a happy baby, but has zero concept of his power when it starts to show, leaving one very tired High Lord and High Lady when he shatters a window in his nursery when wiggling his arms excitedly.

He's an intuitive little guy though and very quickly figures out he needs to be careful when Feyre and Rhys try to teach him to get a handle on that power. He learns this the hard way after accidentally nightmisting one of his toys.

Nobody for the life of them can figure out why he adores cranky Auntie Amren so much. Though he's not old enough to explain it, he thinks she's another child to play with. Cassian suggests this and Amren nearly rips his head off.

Nyx is a full-fledged mama's boy. He adores Feyre and is a complete snugglebug with her. He's also very protective of his mama.

That said, he idolizes his dad too and copies everything he does. He follows Rhys around and mimics everything, right down to trying to copy the High Lord's graceful swagger. Feyre, naturally, absolutely melts at the sight of him waddling after his dad with one hand in his pocket looking too cool for school on his tiny little legs.

Nyx is obsessed with Starfall, and his first-ever painting is a finger painting of him with his parents under those stars. Rhys gets misty-eyed when he sees it.

He's besties with Kallias and Viviane's little snow angel. The fact they're the same age is perfect--when the grown-ups are too boring tending to one courtly matter or the other, Nyx and his friend can easily pass the time playing in the snow. Nyx already has met his match in the realm of snowball fighting, and takes a new tactic or two back to absolutely wallop his uncles. Rhys could not be more proud of this fact.

Nyx takes his role as Eldest Cousin very seriously, but there's one cousin in particular who absolutely does not and will not listen to a word he says. Guess whose kid that cousin is.

Nyx takes a little too much after his mother sometimes in that he befriends every semi-civil demon-thing or dark spirit that walks the face of the earth. To Uncle Cassian's absolute horror, Nyx is apparently friends with Bryaxis...and Bryaxis loves this kid.

Hear me out… Nyx’s first word is Nesta (or to be more precise: “Nes” while pointing at her and giggling). Do I think this will happen in canon? No way in hell; it’s probably something boring like “Ma” or “Dada” in a future bonus chapter (just kidding… or am I? Let’s face it, this screams bonus chapter material).

I’m into this headcanon for the pure CHAOS and comedy of it all. Rhys is incandescent with fury but forced to be outwardly happy around Nyx, praising his son for his first word. Feyre is a little disappointed but too thrilled with how intelligent her baby is (idk maybe he starts speaking two months ahead of schedule or something). Cassian starts chanting “Cas” at the baby to no avail — Nyx just stares at him blankly and repeats “Nes” confusedly again. Elain smiles and says that it’s only fitting considering how Aunty Nesta was responsible for Nyx’s safe delivery.

Azriel stays quiet and is the only person to hear Rhys mutter that maybe Nyx was trying to say his own name and that baby X’s sound like S’s. Right then, Nyx screams “Nes!!!” again and toddles into Nesta’s arms. Azriel fails to keep a straight face at Rhys’s quiet rage while Feyre is furiously lecturing her mate via mindspeak. Amren and Mor are sipping on glasses of wine, mentally promising themselves to continue a child-free existence for the rest of eternity.

Bonus: Nesta is shocked but privately very gratified. She hasn’t been trying to teach Nyx to say her name, unlike some members of the Inner Circle. But she takes this memory and holds it close to her heart for the rest of her life. 🥹

(I do not think any of this actually happens, but the Nyx vs Nes sound similarity is too good to ignore. It SHOULD be canon. Think of the comedy, Sarah!!!)

Stupid little headcanon.

Rhysand sends Nyx to the Illyrian camps to ‘toughen him up’. Nyx sees how unjustly they are treated and starts a revolution. He teams up with Tamlin’s daughter Dahlia who is in love with a Hewn City woman who is going to be sold in marriage.

Nyx secretly leads the Illyrian uprising, while Dahlia and her girlfriend Aisling lead the Hewn City uprising. They get all the other Heirs of the Courts on their sides, make deals with Hybern’s new Queen and Vallahan’s Court.

The Court of Dreamers won’t know what hit them.

The first time Feyre is invited along to Rhys's weekly hair and spa appointment, she knows it's not something for her. Feyre can only justify her art for self care time.

But when Rhys insists he bring Nyx along to sit in his lap, handed over only when Rhys goes to the sink for his deep conditioner treatment: to the aesthetician who use to tweeze Nyx's grandmother's eyebrows? She chatters about how fortunate the Prince of Night is to have inherited the High Lady's brows, the High Lord's cheekbones, but she also discusses all the hopes and dreams the former Lady had for her future grandchildren.

Feyre hears the stories and realizes she missed the community and the phantom presence Rhys seeks at the spa (as well as maintaining the careful regiment of a nearly six century old posh male.)

Her next realization is that these stylists and aestheticians may be the single greatest threat to the Night Court's security if they were breached. (Azriel assures her after he has spies trained through a beauty school regularly to keep there as plants.)

Honestly, at this point, I have an AU of the story and characters in my mind that has replaced canon entirely.

Some things are the same, but some things got a good and proper overhaul when I took mental custody of ACOTAR for my personal AU That said, there are some truly talented writers [on here and ao3] who have really taken that untapped potential to the next level. Feysand Week 2023 Day 2: Hobbies

One day, Feyre brings Rhys to the cabin to show him some new artwork she made. He walks in, looks up, and his gaze meets a new pair of blue eyes smaller than the rest. Nyx’s eyes.

Then he notices the pair next to Nyx’s. An outline of another set, the same small size, but with no color filled in. Yet. This is how Feyre tells Rhys they’re having another child.

Temporary tattoos - Cassian

Feyre and Rhys had Nyx young- like really young. You had only been with Cassian for a few months but had grown close to Feyre and you and Cassian and Azriel and Rhys were there to support her through it all. That was 5 years ago.

All of you had grown to be a little family of sorts, figuring everything out day by day. 

You and Cassian were known as the fun aunt and uncle to Nyx as he loved it when you and Cassian got to babysit him

Azriel was the only level headed one most days, calming down both Rhys and Feyre, that “yes that is normal, no you shouldn’t worry”, or the occasional “okay...that that is not normal I’d take him to the doctors” but luckily that only has happened twice. 

 Rhys and Feyre spoil Nyx to no end, as you constantly trip over new toys whenever you visit their townhouse 

You were always thinking of fun new things to do with Nyx, mainly to see Rhys’s reaction. That was the fun part of it all 

Like last time, when Rhys had planned some overnight trip with Feyre and Azriel was on a work trip and you and Cassian had to watch Nyx overnight. You stood there, listening to Rhys lecture about Nyx’s routine, Feyre had stood next to him, rolling her eyes and shaking her head at some of them, practically giving you the okay to break them You had broke every single rule the second Rhys’s car pulled out of the driveway

You had found some old hair chalk when cleaning your bathroom the day before, streaking Nyx’s hair with blue and green, before Rhys came to pick him up. Nyx absolutely loved his new hair style. Rhys not so much

So this time, when Rhys had asked you and Cassian to watch his son, he added a new rule “No hair chalk” since apparently it was a pain to get out, and got in his eyes when Feyre was washing his hair. You felt bad, and did agree to no hair chalk

You still allowed him to have a single piece of candy though. You had to stay the favorite aunt somehow, till he realizes how cool Nesta or Mor is

This time, you and Cassian took Nyx while you had to run some errands, the first stop being a store 

You were about to text Feyre to ask her if Nyx was allowed to have whatever sugary juice he currently had in his hand when he saw a package containing temporary tattoos, he picked up a package to ask Cassian if he could look like Cassian, his dad and Uncle Azzy 

Cassian immediately said yes when Nyx held the package out to him, already making plans to have matching ones with his nephew. You bought two packs because you didn’t want to be left out 

Cassian used the entire two packs on Nyx, putting them all over his arms

You, Cassian and Nyx had a spiderweb on the back of your hand to all match 

There was even a little heart with ‘Mom’ written in it that Cassian placed on Nyx’s bicep 

Nyx could not wait to show his mom and dad in a few hours when they picked him up 

You couldn’t wait to see Rhys’s reaction, having taken some pictures of all three of you with tattoos, Nyx sat between you and Cassian proudly holding up his hand to show off the matching tattoo 

Rhys’s eyes nearly popped out of his head at seeing his son, you and Cassian just smiled innocently at him, but Feyre thought it was hysterical 

Her favorite one was the heart with ‘Mom’ in it 

Eventually Rhys did calm down, his heart melted a bit when Nyx proudly said he looked like his dad and two uncles now 

The three of them left a little while later with Nyx proudly telling his parents he was never taking a bath again so his temporary tattoos could stay on forever. Rhys shot you and Cassian another look. Cassian and Feyre were trying to not laugh 

You turned to Cassian once they left “How much do you wanna bet next time Rhys drops Nyx off he adds ‘no temporary tattoos’ to the list?” “Oh 100%”

Nyx with his aunts and uncles 🥹

Trying to do push-ups with Uncle Cass, with his chubby little baby arms but just flops on his baby belly. Then he gets distracted, climbs on Uncle Cass’ back and yells go horse-y! Uncle Cass obliges of course.

Going on surveillance with Uncle Az and blowing his cover when he just waddles out or jumps out because some animal caught his attention. Uncle Az’s shadows are on Nyx’s side. Uncle Az shrugs and decides this is still better than chaperoning Nesta and Cassian.

Auntie Mor day drinking and Nyx “accidentally” taking a sip while she’s not looking. He’s hiccuping for the next hour but Auntie Mor shrugs and says eh, cheers little buddy, don’t tell mama and papa.

Auntie Amren glaring down at Nyx, who looks up with big blue purple eyes. She walks away thinking her death glare will get rid of him but Nyx just waddles after her. Auntie Amren starts discussing strategy saying, since no one else in this house has anything useful to teach you anyway.

Trying to take away Auntie Nesta’s book to get her attention but ends up getting curious. Auntie Nesta freaks out, closes it shut and says that’s not for little eyes! She tries to find a kid friendly book and realizes there’s none. Auntie Nesta lowkey spoils him, fyi.

Trying to help Auntie Elain in the garden. She turns around and he’s gone, appears a few minutes later with dirt all over, flowers and grass sticking out of his ears, nose, hair, butt, all over his clothes and definitely chewing on a plant. Auntie Elain rolls around in the grass with Nyx, who’s squealing and giggling into the sky, not a single care in the world.

Babbling on Uncle Lulu’s lap (yes he will call him Uncle Lulu), chewing and pulling his hair, messing up his braids, poking his eye nonstop then yelling fire fire fire! Uncle Lulu asks himself how he went from despising Rhysand to letting his son mess up his immaculate hair, drool on him and doing fire tricks for him but he does it anyway and Nyx is the happiest baby.

I was not a big fan of the whole baby-pregnancy-from-hell plot but you just can’t help but love Nyx (he’s a baby, you guys!), who is definitely his father’s son just from his dramatic entrance 💕✨🌙👑🦇

Another next gen concept nobody asked for:

The Night Court munchkins--Nyx plus Cassian and Nesta's kid(s)--love when they get to go to Aunt Elain and Uncle Lucien's. They love the ancient, beautiful trees around the property and the sprawling gardens; the nearby ponds stocked with fish and plenty of rocks to skip.

Nyx inherits his mother's artistic eye, and no matter how rowdy he gets as a child when it's time to run and play, he notes every single detail of the forest and those gardens to the point he even notices things Lucien has missed. He does the same even with Elain's garden.

I stand by the Cassian-is-a-girl-dad headcanon, and I fully believe that when/if that ends up being the case, they will have at least one quiet, calm, sweet girl who's maybe even a bit shy and likes to keep to her books.

That's the daughter who beams from ear to ear and truly comes out of her shell when she gets to help Elain bake, and is excited when she even gets to lick the spoon. Elain always lets her take flowers from her garden, and the little girl uses her books to press them and turn them into permanent staples in her room back home.

The kids all love to hear Lucien's stories from the time he's spent among the courts, and love to hear about his travels to the human lands and the Firebird queen. Elain by this point is fully versed in them all, but she'll sit quietly and listen, making sure to catch his eye every now and then and sending a little tug of love or playfulness down the bond.

The kids adore them, and they soak up every minute of being with them.

Nesta and Feyre pretend to be mad when Elain sneaks the kids extra sweets right before sending them home, but never actually are.

And Elain knows it.

ACOTAR characters and the solar eclipse

Cassian: stares directly at the hidden sun without protective glasses, the dummy.

Nesta: whacks Cassian for his stupidity. She is unamused by her mate tackling her into his arms and flying straight into the clouds. Once she stops scowling and struggling, Nesta is quietly awed by how beautiful the sky looks. They spend the next few hours in the skies, flying north and following the eclipse’s path to the Illyrian mountains.**

Gwyn: hangs out in the training ground with her fellow priestesses, Emerie, and Azriel. Cassian had grabbed Nesta in the middle of training, and everyone else had agreed to pause their drills to admire the sky. While the priestesses and Emerie chatter amongst themselves, Gwyn notices that Az has removed himself from the group and is standing near the weapon rack. Gwyn approaches Az, teasing him that as a Shadowsinger, the eclipse is a triumphant moment for the shadows to come out and conquer the training ground. A puzzled Az asks what she means. Gwyn shrugs, explaining that she’d noticed that the shadows avoid direct sunlight and stay away during morning training. She’d only ever seen them at night or inside the house, you see. At these words, the shadows cautiously exit the House of Wind — but they don’t swarm the darkened training ground like Gwyn expected. Instead the shadows stay close to Gwyn for the duration of the eclipse. Gwyn laughs in delight and pretends to bat them away in jest. When the returning sunshine marks the end of the eclipse, the shadows don’t disappear into the safety of the house. To Az’s shock, the shadows hover around Gwyn for the rest of training, seemingly immune to their fear of sunlight for the first time ever.

Feyre, Rhys, and Nyx: Feyre has ensured that Nyx can’t take off his protective glasses by accident, taping them securely to the back of his head. When the eclipse starts, Nyx gets very upset and starts bawling — not because he’s scared of the dark, but because this has never happened before and it’s scary. Feyre quickly uses her Day Court power to light up her body, distracting Nyx and providing a source of light. When that doesn’t quell the crying, Rhys comes over and does his Night Court blanket of darkness trick, coating the River House with his power and stars. It’s still dark, but Nyx is familiar with this kind of darkness and stops fussing. 🥹

Elain: watches the eclipse in her garden. Alone. When the sun disappears, Elain suddenly, desperately, irrationally wishes for Luci sunshine. She wishes for sunshine, nothing else. Elain is relieved when the world goes back to normal an hour later, chalking up her pesky thoughts to temporary insanity and sun deprivation.

Helion: there’s no solar eclipse in the Day Court, duh. The Prythian path of totality has a random break between the Dawn and Night courts. Even science and gravitational physics have to obey the court borders, obviously. Rhys did invite Helion to view the eclipse in Velaris, but Helion declined. He’d attended a previous eclipse centuries ago and felt his magic wane during the phenomenon; while beautiful to witness, Helion has no desire to experience that vulnerability again after Amarantha’s imprisonment.***

Modern IC Halloween Headcanons

🎃 The Inner Circle all go hard for Halloween and put in lots of effort to make sure they make the most of it.

🎃 Rhysand and Feyre are absolutely a matching costume couple and you just know they’d be the sexiest pair in the room.

🎃 Until Nyx is born that is, when they would go full family mode. Nyx’s first Halloween Rhysand and Feyre dressed as the Big Bad Wolf and Little Red Riding Hood, whilst Nyx was dressed as a tiny lumberjack.

🎃 Nesta was never the biggest fan of Halloween as her parents never let her and her sisters go trick or treating. Once Nyx is born though, she loves getting to take him trick or treating with Elain and Feyre every year.

🎃 On the 1st of October every year, Feyre and Cassian would team up to drunk decorate like in ACOFAS, and poor Azriel would have to intervene so they didn’t just throw toilet paper everywhere, claiming it was a giant spiders web.

🎃 Elain would bake the BEST stuff. Pumpkin themed everything, deserts with spooky designs and the biggest chocolate orange cake as the centrepiece.

🎃 Mor would be on drinks duty. Coming up with cute cocktails and mocktails and maybe even some deathly punch.

🎃 Mor and Cassian would also fight over the right to make the party playlist and would eventually be scolded by Rhys for acting like toddlers. They would then be forced to make a joint playlist and would almost kill each other in the process.

🎃 The Valkyries would do a group costume and would be such a cute lil’ trio. Hocus Pocus remains their most popular costume choice, but Mean Girls was up there too.

🎃 Cassian would be very sad about missing out on Mean Girls and so the next year Nesta convinces the girls to let Cassian join in on their Wizard of Oz costume.

🎃 Amren would always turn up dressed in her regular clothes, because “Everyone tells me I’m scary, so I’m coming as myself”.

🎃 She pretends to be over the whole Halloween thing every single year, but Feyre has caught her on multiple occasions smirking to herself whilst watching Nesta jump-scare Cassian.

🎃 Az would also dislike dressing up and usually dressed in his normal attire of black jeans and a black t-shirt, but Elain and Feyre would always manage to convince him to let them draw some cat whiskers on his face.

Nyx cannot pronounce Uncle Lucien. He rectified this by calling him Uncle Lemon.

Lucien is now known as Uncle Lemon by all the children of the Courts. This a title he carries with honour.

Okay, first is my all time favorite headcanon but It's Feyre and Nyx. It's about Nyx cuddling with Feyre and he's so happy that he starts glowing (like Feyre in acomaf chpt 55) and Feyre calls him her little star from there on

And my favorite headcanon today is that Feyre, and Rhys in extension, hate having someone babysitting Nyx. They really just let someone babysit in an emergency, but usually they take care of Nyx. If Rhys can't, Feyre is there and if Feyre can't, Rhys is there. Or they are both there of course but Feyres earliest trauma is of her mother pushing her in some maids arms and leaving her, so I don't think she'd be comfortable with someone babysitting her son

I like to imagine a scene wherein Feyre walks in to the 3 bat boys sprawled in various “dead” positions around her living room (various weapons sprawled about, dramatic moaning and groaning, etc), and in the middle is a little toddler Nyx with a little toy sword standing over them. He notices his mama and loudly and proudly explains how his enemies have been vanquished, and Feyre just stands there plotting how she's going to paint this, where she's going to put the painting, and how to get Cassian out from where he's stuck under the end table.
