I just realized how different FirstPrince is to the other ships I love, because they’re REAL. They’re canon. They kiss, they cuddle, they have sex, they get MARRIED.

While my other hyperfixations are all results of chemistry that the fans took and ran with. My brain is spinning cause it’s not like Colin and Bradley, or Benedict and Martin, being asked “what do you think of fans shipping your characters?”

Taylor and Nick filmed a movie where they actually ARE the ship. There’s no subtext or adding hidden depth between them with their acting choices, they just are in love.

It’s not like Merthur or Johnlock or whatever where I say to myself “okay, don’t tag the actors cause they probably don’t want to see that”.

THEY ARE THAT. THE MOVIE IS THAT..

It’s like my brain can’t comprehend it. It can’t wrap around the fact that we’re getting an actual romcom about two men, that I know has so much happiness in it, and despite the angst, it is a happy love story. Alex and Henry are happy together and it’s clear as crystal on the page and soon the screen.

I just can’t get over how excited I am for this fucking movie.

this is more about merlin than merthur but i'll call it what i want

I say I don't want that, but what if I do?” after so many years of protecting arthur and borderline killing people for him, and also he’s constantly trying to get mordred to just fucking die already

“I jump from the train, I ride off alone” merlin often goes off to protect arthur on his own, of course lancelot and gwaine did come with him occasionally along with some other but usually he’s by himself

I've been the prey” pretty self explanatory. he’s fought and defeated but he’s also been hunter like in the witchfinder episode

But who could stay?” so many people are devoted to merlin but they also often end up dead, like lancelot, freya, even arthur

But what if I'm alright, right, right, right here?” he knows he should be weary of arthur but he can’t help being comfortable in his presence

Help me hold onto you” morgana and mordred started out as his friends, and if arthur found out about his magic, he would probably turn against him as well

Merlin thought he could save Arthur from his fate but now he realizes he can’t

Merlin and Arthur loved Camelot because of the life it held. Merlin loved it even more because of Arthur and the future it promised, but now Arthur’s gone and he didn’t get what he wanted.

Do I throw out everything we built or keep it?

When things get hard Merlin might wonder if all this was worth it

Merlin is a a resilient person enemies keep beating him down but he just keeps going. He’d destroy himself and he’d destroy other people and things just to keep Arthur safe.

Merlin loves Arthur more than anything but he knows that Arthur might kill him if he learned about his magic and he knows he’d let him (at least if he knew Arthur would be ok afterwards)

As Arthur put all of his focus on Gwen and then on the anger that came from losing her. He started to lose Merlin, Merlin would never leave but he didn’t have as much energy, his smile faded, he didn’t joke as much anymore.

Every mornin', I glared at you with storms in my eyes How can you say that you love someone you can't tell is dyin'? I sent you signals and bit my nails down to the quick. My face was gray, but you wouldn't admit that we were sick

Arthur said he loved Merlin but yet he chose Gwen that slowly drained Merlin. The one Merlin loved so deeply couldn’t give the same love back.

And the air is thick with loss and indecision

When Arthur finds out about Merlin’s magic their relationship will never be the same again. No matter if it turned out ok or horribly it still could never be the same. Arthur doesn’t know what to do with this information, he knows what someone having magic should mean but it’s Merlin.

I know my pain is such an imposition

Merlin is an imposition of the law just by being himself, but his pain is something of a burden because he wants something he can’t have not only is he a servant but he’s a man. Arthur and him could never be accepted.

Merlin couldn’t imagine how much it would hurt to see Arthur marry someone else until it happened and he didn’t even confront the possibility of losing him until it happened and he had to deal with the pain

How long could we be a sad song 'Til we were too far gone to bring back to life?

Arthur and Merlin were a tragic story and that started even before Arthur died but when he died that cemented the end. They could have been something greater if Arthur had known sooner but it’s too late now.

I gave you all my best me's, my endless empathy

Merlin gave Arthur his everything. He stayed even when Arthur lashed out at him. He wasn’t mad at Arthur for hating what made Merlin because he understood that was how he was made.

And all I did was bleed as I tried to be the bravest soldier

But in the end all Merlin got was pain.

Fighting in only your army

Merlin only ever used his magic for Arthur

Frontlines, don't you ignore me

He stood by Arthur’s side against all odds, the dragon, Morgana, the Vikings, you name it. No matter the odds he was there, that was something Arthur saw and respected.

I'm the best thing at this party

Ok a little break from the angst. Do you ever think of that scene during a feast where it’s Merthur having intense eye contact like they’re the only thing that matters? Because that’s the only Merthur connection I could think of here

And I wouldn't marry me either

Merlin realizes why Arthur chose Gwen.

A pathological people pleaser Who only wanted you to see her

Merlin despite being argumentative and sometimes annoying still just wants to make Arthur happy.

Back to how I started this Merlin doesn’t like that Arthur responded to learning his secret with silence. He wants an answer, he needs to know what Arthur thinks and feels. Nothing is worse than the outright hatred. The unknown is far worse than knowing it could have been better.

Currently watching: I'm rewatching the last season of Vikings with my boyfriend, so we could watch (and rewatch for me) Vikings Valhalla. I am about to resume watching The Crown, I just saw the first two seasons. Three ships: Oh gosh, this is very hard... I will say the three ships I'm still obsessed with:

I love their relationship in Fire and Blood, and seeing Tom Taylor and Harry Collett hanging around toghether made me cry all my tears out. So with Speak Now TV dropping, I'm obviously back on my Merlin x Taylor Swift bs, so some thoughts:

Castles Crumbling: Instant Pendragon siblings vibes; it works so well for both of them + some sprinkled Merlin failing fulfilling his destiny in the middle for extra angst

Timeless: It's giving Merthur Reincarnation au through the ages. idk how else to describe it (it would actually be really cool to have a fic showing snippets of them through the decades based on the lyrics and merlin returning to the antique shop)

Long Live: It's already a given at this point, but always worthy of mention (it's perfect on its own, even without the merlin association, which is just an added bonus in this case)

Enchanted: Obviously this works for a lot of different ships (but the answer is always merthur)

Innocent: Merlin speaking to/about Arthur OR someone talking abt Merlin (although, it could honestly work for most of the characters considering no one's innocence survived, so final answer is it works for any redeemable character, aka not uther)

Speak Now: I've read a few fics based on this one, and I love the concept (go check out All Eyes On Me by TheCourtSorcerer it's one of my favorites)

Back to December: If you haven't figured it out already, my first response is always going to be merthur, but I also think this could work really well for Lancelot and Gwen (more specifically, Lance talking about Gwen. Gwen has no reason to grovel)

Haunted: This is a Morgana song, that's just the vibe I'm getting. OR Merlin's grief and pain at losing Arthur. Alternate thought: Arthur's grief and pain at losing Merlin (temporarily or not) right after a magic reveal

The Story of Us: Could go a lot of different ways, but I'm feeling Morgana & Merlin maybe

Mean: I think a chaotic montage of all of Merlin fighting all his enemies would be funny

Alright, who’s gonna be the first to make Red, White, & Royal Blue actors AU?

And I don’t mean Henry and Alex are actors, I mean an AU for other ships, like a ship is hired to play them in the movie and they fall in love while filming

I’m already impressed that Nicholas and Taylor didn’t fall in love while filming, cause lord knows I would if I were in their shoes lmfao

It makes for a fantastic AU basis.

Example: Merthur gets casted; Arthur has to play Henry and Merlin has to play Alex. They’re like “it’s just work” and then at some point one of them is like “oh shit it’s not just work”.

It’s like all those actor AUs where the ship is casted as Romeo & Juliet, or Cinderella & the prince, or whatever famous couple you pick, but it gives so much potential out of the gate

It gives you a template of a queer love story that readers can recognize and visualize, like “oh they’re filming the Red Room scene today” and the reader knows what that means and what that looks like in their head already, so they can think more about the ship being used rather than be distracted trying to come up with a mental image of a whole scene

Tell me that’s not a great idea, I dare you, you would be lying

For anyone interested, I’m on a Pop Music course and I’m study the music industry in business classes, with theory (boring as hell) classes too and I have recording sessions, music history & context lessons and on Fridays we have perfomance workshop, where we pick a song to learn in the morning and practice with a band or solo or whatever is needed, then by the end of the day we have an hour of tech set up and then we perform it to the rest of the people on the course. It’s a lot of fun but hard work, we have tech students doing live sound and someone from tech doing the lighting and stuff. Feel free to ask me any questions about it!

Wonderland through the lens of Merthur

Flashing lights and we Took a wrong turn and we Fell down a rabbit hole

Light is usually associated with goodness but when it’s flashing it can be blinding. Merlin became so caught up in his love for Arthur that he forgot about bringing magic back to Camelot. He made the wrong decisions in an attempt save Arthur and things got worse from there

You held on tight to me 'Cause nothing's as it seems And spinning out of control

Merlin was Arthur’s rock when Morgana betrayed him Merlin was there. When Gwen cheated on him Merlin was there. When making decisions Arthur turns to and holds tight to Merlin. When he doesn’t know who to trust and everything is falling apart he still has Merlin.

Didn't they tell us don't rush into things? Didn't you flash your green eyes at me? Haven't you heard what becomes of curious minds?

Ok so neither of them have green eyes but consider green eyes not literally but green as in go like a stoplight. While anyone around them would tell them that a relationship between the two of them would be a bad idea they both go ahead with it anyways. But the saying is curiosity killed the cat. Uther would be furious if he found out and Merlin could be dead if Arthur found out about his magic.

Didn't it all seem new and exciting? I felt your arms twisting around me I should have slept with one eye open at night

So the the word twisting is interesting because it invokes the imagery of being trapped so while the love is wonderful and exciting in some ways it’s also constricting. It keeps Merlin trapped in a kingdom that hates all he is, saving a king who would have him killed for it just because Uther’s death would cause him pain. Merlin needs to be on guard because of what he is.

Wonderland symbolizes how magical and exciting the relationship feels. But it can’t last forever. Merlin was a wonderful experience for Arthur, someone who saw him as a person not caring about his title. But Arthur was everything to Merlin, he was his purpose and made him happy but he also brought him so much pain, Merlin had to kill for him he had to risk his life for him, he watched the people he loved die after he met Arthur.

So we went on our way Too in love to think straight All alone or so it seemed But there were strangers watching And whispers turned to talking And talking turned to screams

People noticed how much Arthur and Merlin cared for eachother and they used it against them. Like Morgana and Agravaine targeting Merlin to use against Arthur even though they didn’t know about his magic.

I reached for you but you were gone. I knew I had to go back home

The first line is Merlin and the second line is Arthur when it comes to the finale. Merlin tried to save Arthur and he tried to hold him close but Arthur was already doomed. Arthur knew he wasn’t going to make it though that’s why he just asked for Merlin to hold him. He wanted their last moments to be love rather than anguish. He knew he had to go.

You searched the world for something else to make you feel like what we had And in the end in wonderland we both went mad

Merlin is left alone in the world just waiting for Arthur to come back, or at the very least something to give him purpose, someone to make him alive like Arthur did. In the end they both lost everything they were looking for. In the end their entire worldviews were shattered, Merlin wasn’t exactly who Arthur thought he was, Magic couldn’t be evil like he thought because Merlin was magic and Merlin lost his world.

I just saw we're getting yet another newbie and now everyone is freaking about her being an Eddie love interest, but what if, she's actually Ravi's. They've already established Ravi as mini Buck, and so what if they bring in a female ex soldier single mom and start having them mirror Buck and Eddie. We always say that if Eddie had been a woman, Buck and him would be together by now, this is the show proving that fact for the casual audience/antis. Then when buddie goes canon and people are like "but it came out of nowhere" they can point to Ravi and the new woman and say "it's the exact same story". 🤔

Or maybe I'm just desperately clutching at straws because I don't want to sit through ANOTHER damn pirate (it's what I call love interests brought in to destroy a ship)

Okay, I choked up laughing at that pirate bit! XD That's brilliant, and I hope you don't mind if I adopt it, too. Let's make it a thing! It actually kind of reminds me of the ultimate ship pirate IMO, Gwen from the BBC's Merlin. That whole show was built around Merthur's epic love story, but it was obvious that canonically, the show will follow Arthurian legend, and ultimately, Arthur would be paired up with Gwen, not Merlin. Yet s1, which set up the show, was all about Merthur. Arthur and Gwen barely interacted. So when the show decided in s2 that it HAD to jumpstart the Gwen/Arthur romance, I mean literally jumpstart it (going from barely having interacted at the start of ep 202 to having had an "epic" kiss by the end of it), the writers obviously couldn't come up with why Arthur would become so suddenly smitten with Gwen, other than... to have the two of them recreate within that one ep the dynamic that Merthur shared all throughout s1. I kinda died laughing because if anything, it only further proved why Merthur were perfect for each other.

So yes, I could and would love to see this new addition become a love interest to Ravi, that would parallel and demonstrate how right Buddie are for each other. I wouldn't count on it, simply because from what I understand, Ravi's actor has booked himself a regular gig elsewhere, so I doubt we'll see too much of Ravi in s6. For what it's worth, I'm sure we won't be getting a new pirate any time too soon. 911 spent s5 having our boys move away from their former pirates and choosing themselves. Now the show has to explore that. If they just throw them into yet another r/s (that can't compare to Buddie), it'll just be throwing all that good character progression away. Especially for Buck, who only broke up with Taylor in the s5 finale. And the timing really does remind me of where the show left of in s2, where it chose to keep both of them single for the entirety of s3.

Basically, I feel you about not having to deal with pirates in the near future, but I think the water's clear for the near future. ;) Thank you for this ask, hon. Hope you're doing well! xoxox
