The argument that the switch-up between Tamlin and Rhysand as love interests was SJM making a clever commentary on the inherently problematic nature of the Beauty and the Beast tale is actually really annoying to me.
I'm absolutely not above being critical of this story.
However, just because there are problematic aspects in the foundational version of this story doesn’t mean that modern iterations automatically possess these as well.
So let's look at how modern retellings deal with the most commonly criticised element of the story: the kidnapping.
For me personally, the most important thing to look at when judging how "problematic" the kidnapping in any given Beauty and the Beast story is, is to look at what the actual power dynamics at play are.
Most of these stories tend to feature some inherent power imbalance between the Beauty and the Beast characters. However, most retellings also feature a curse/curser who puts pressure on the Beast to kidnap Beauty in the first place. This means there is always some kind of higher power/authority who holds significant power over the Beast as well.
In the og Fairytale version, we have a scorned Fae/Witch who curses the Beast. The stakes for the Beast are to find a woman, make her fall in love with him, or stay a Beast forever.
How much this gives the Beast a pass for the crime of kidnapping is, of course, sth each person has to decide for themself.
However, most modern retellings tend to significantly increase the severity of the conditions and consequences of said curse, often times putting many lives outside of the Beast's own at stake.
This increase in stakes, at least for me, significantly impacts how much I condemn the actions of the Beast character.
We see this in the Disney version were all the people living and working in the castle were turned into animate objects and risk turning inanimate once the time-limit for the curse runs out, which is essentially a child friendly way of saying that they will all die.
In the YA novel Cruel Beauty (which I already compared to Acotar in an older post), the Beast character is forced to take a new bride every century. Due to the specifics of the curse, the safety of an entire country is dependent on his compliance with the conditions put on him. So, despite the fact that he initially appears much more powerful than the Beauty character, they are essentially both stuck under the same curse.
The first Acotar book works the same way. Tamlin kidnaps Feyre, not because he wants to but because the conditions of the curse put not just the fate of the SC but of the entirety of Prythian at stake.
That's, of course, not to say that this isn't a violent experience for Feyre and her family. But it does mean that Tamlin isn't the instigator of this violent act, but the person responsible for the curse, aka Amarantha.
The attempt to turn this into a subversion of the BnB story by revealing Tamlin as a violent and abusive partner becomes incredibly frustrating, because most of the violent undertone present in the 1st book, that fans like to point towards as an early sign of his future abusive behaviors are not caused by Tamlin himself but by Amarantha (and her batwinged lackey).
But SJM's attempt is especially nonsensical because Feyre's new romance with Rhysand is just a worse version of BnB.
I am aware that the second book, Acomaf, is most commonly marketed as a Hades/Persephone retelling.
But here is the thing; the modern interpretation of Hades/Persephone as a romance is much more akin to the story of Beauty and the Beast than the hymn to Demeter (the og source text featuring the myth of Hades/Persephone), which as the title suggests is much more concerned with the feelings of grief and rage a mother feels in response to her daughter's abduction than anything else.
So, let's judge Feysand's story with the same standards we just used for other modern BnB retellings.
Immediately, we run into the issue that Rhysand doesn't have a higher power above him forcing him to kidnap Feyre (unless you want to count the mating bond, but that is clearly meant to be seen as a positive so that doesn't really work, Amarantha doesn't count either).
However, it gets worse.
He is the one who forces the bargain on Feyre, ensuring she has to spend 1 week in the NC for the rest of her life. When he later kidnaps her, he is fulfilling the curse he himself put on her.
In this version, the Beast character, Rhysand, is not the cursed but the curser. So he is at once the kidnapper AND the higher power enforcing the curse/the cause for the kidnapping.
In a direct comparison between the way Tamlin and Rhysand each fullfill the Beast role, it becomes pretty apparent how utterly SJM's supposed criticism of the BnB story has failed; Tamlin kidnaps Feyre because he is forced to, Rhysand does because he WANTS to.

More fankids!! Both because they are genuinely fun to make and give lore to but also because I made Mirai and then wanted to make sure she had friends!
Aster is designed by my friend Duetland!! (The last art is by them!!) They aren’t on tumblr but you can find him on Instagram @duetland :)
Lore for each of them under the cut! (LONG POST WARNING!!!!)
Gold and Aster:
Shadow and Sonics kids. They’re twins (with Aster being older). Both were babysat by Tails a lot and ended up picking up a lot of stuff from him as well as their parents. Gold became more responsible and significantly more polite (far more than either of his parents lmao) meanwhile Aster became interested in robotics. Specifically those related to space like rockets or planet rovers.
When the two were born there was immediate concern about their power imbalance. Aster was born with no powers at all, meanwhile Gold’s chaos energy was so high Shadow feared he would burn himself up unless something was done. Due to them being twins, it essentially ended up where instead of two moderately powerful hedgehogs - Gold got enough power for two while Aster has none. This leads Aster to resent Gold, less because she actually wants superpowers but more because Sonic and Shadow are always fussing over Gold (to make sure his powers aren’t harming him) and she feels like her parents don’t care for her. Causing her to push them out even more. She listens to Shadow more than Sonic, but they don’t end up talking through all this properly until Espio gets involved since unlike Sonic and Shadow who had powers all their lives - Espio had to teach himself his abilities and is able to empathize with Aster more.
3. Rhine
Rouge and Knuckles’ child. I’ve thought about her way less WHOOPS but!! Despite not being an echidna he looks up to his father a lot and promises to be the best guardian of the master emerald he can possibly be. Has a habit of just picking up shiny things like a magpie and will turn them into jewelry. Is blunt and gullible like her father but likes thinking things through before she moves. Uses the shovel claws more as weapons than actual shovels - he’s a bit of a neat freak.
Mirai and Gummy:
Mirais story is on my previous post! Not much has been added since then other than that I’ve decided she’s a bit of a troublemaker and very energetic, sarcastic, silly and kinda stupid. As for Gummy he’s about 7 years younger than Mirai, and I haven’t quite figured out what he’d be interested in yet haha
Eli and Anchor:
These two are half siblings! Eli’s parents are Amy and Metal. While investigating the ruins of a disaster, Amy and Metal find a child who who had been incredibly injured. They happen to be closer to Eggmans new hideout (where he has retired and is just kinda pouting by himself forever) than anywhere else - the two break in and force Eggman to help them save the child. Since the current Metal is Amy’s size, there were several smaller models for when he was “younger” - Eggman uses one of these scrapped smaller Metals to give the child cybernetic parts and saves their life. Amy and Metal then take the child back to their house and raise it as their own, with Eggman forcing them to bring Eli over frequently so he can see his grandchild.
Anchor is the child of Blaze and Amy! I’m just letting Amy be poly I think she has a lot of love in her heart and now she has two wifes. Anchor lives the Sol kingdom, and takes after her aunt Marine quite a bit with her love for adventure and especially sailing! When she was young, much like Blaze, she was brought before the Sol emeralds and blessed with a power. I feel like she’d be able to control / harness winds rather than fire though - to help with her sailing.
If you read all of this - thanks!! You didn’t have to but it was very nice of you!

As much as i dislike the whole narrow and oversimplified love language theory it explains so much about the problems and miscommunication at the de Pointe du Lac-de Lioncourt household if you consider that they speak different love languages. Aside from their 32958394577 other issues of course.
Louis is quite clearly a ‘quality time’ and ‘acts of service’ type of person. He often feels uncomfortable with overt gestures and believes that actions speak louder than words and the way he shows love is rather practical. Providing for and taking care of his loved ones and spending time with them is very important for him. He’s not outwardly very affectionate towards others but he makes a great effort to help his family and sometimes also the community (and he tries to justify to himself his exploitation of women by insisting that he’s actually protecting and helping them). With Paul they spent a lot of time just doing things together like walking and talking and going to church and dancing. In the beginning with Lestat they bond over music and theatre and arts and Louis talks and opens up to him about things like never before other than with his brother. Later we see him pause reading (his favorite hobby) to listen to what Lestat is saying to him and even at his most depressed he tries to share with Lestat what he’s reading. In modern day he remembers a dessert that was emotionally meaningful for Daniel and has it prepared in an attempt to connect with him through it (and eats himself despite that it tastes awful to him!).
He frequently does things he feel uncomfortable doing to please Lestat (going to opera with him despite having to act as his valet, drinking human blood, having sex with him after finding out he’s cheating again etc.). Becoming a father and taking care of Claudia was something that brought great fulfillment to Louis (”the simple joy of her hand in mine”). He enjoys ‘homemaking’ whether that’s decorating christmas trees or doing his child’s hair and he was at his happiest when the vampire family was living as close to normal everyday family life as possible, and later tries to unsuccessfully return to that status quo. The most important way for him to communicate love with other people is to simply choose to share his life with them. Lestat who expects dramatic romantic words and gestures could never understand the greatest love Louis ever showed was to stay with him despite everything.
Lestat is strongly a ‘words of affirmation, ‘physical touch’ and ‘gift giving’ type of person. He encourages and compliments Louis and tells him he loves him all the time. I think the scene in ep 6 where he mouths ‘i love you’ when walking away from the park bench despite nothing special happening implies that it’s something he tells Louis almost every day. Verbally expressing his emotions is very important for Lestat. He obviously carefully rehearsed his church love confession beforehand and later even literally wrote a song for Louis. Lestat who is deeply insecure needs words of love and reassurance but rarely receives them. When Louis does show verbal affection he just soaks it up like a sponge (”you missed me?”). Lestat is very tactile person and to quote Sam Reid can’t keep his hands off Louis. When they’re together he’s rarely not touching him. Louis is significantly less touchy-feely, he allows Lestat to touch him if they’re not fighting but initiates it himself much less frequently. When they’re not having sex frequently Lestat feels unhappy and abandoned, not just because of his high libido but also because for him sex is an essential way to convey intimacy and connection. This is also shown in his pattern of cheating where despite claiming he likes variety he actually mostly just carries out a years long affair with one person despite finding her tedious, because she offers him constant validation and an illusion of intimacy. He was rather physically and verbally affectionate with Claudia too before the things turned sour, sometimes gently touching her and calling her with pet names.
Lestat, like Louis, loves taking care of his loved ones but he’s more focused on actual providing and giving things. Lestat showers both Louis and Claudia with gifts; clothes, jewelry, books, money. When Louis is worrying about going home and his business after being turned Lestat tells him “this is now your home” and “i have all the money we need”; he has obviously already envisioned the future he will take care of all Louis’ needs and Louis will never have to work again or worry about anything or pay for anything anymore because Lestat is happy to buy and give him everything in the world. He calls vampirism a gift as well and is frustrated when Louis and Claudia are not grateful for receiving it. After the DV incident he tries to literally buy himself back into their life and sends so many gifts that they have to burn more of them than bodies. He whines to Antoinette about how ungrateful and disrespectful Claudia is despite that he’s given her ‘so many incalculable gifts’. Roots of this behaviour are in Lestat having lived most of his human life in poverty and having to act as a provider. Even after years of being rich he values material things and considers giving and receiving them a powerful act of love and loyalty. Louis had not experienced similar poverty and hunger while being human and Claudia who as a human had nothing i think just sees through bullshit. I think despite their different backgrounds Claudia is actually fairly similar to Louis in this regard that they value more practical and straightforward everyday love. Claudia nurses Louis back to health and makes it her mission to save him, and while she loves pretty things as an expression of love they mean nothing to her.

It is now becoming more and more clear to me as to why the creators of Avatar the last airbender walked away from the live adaptation.
Toning down Sokka's sexism
Tumblr media
Sokka being sexist is as important as Katara fighting against sexism. They are BOTH products of their culture. The makers of the Netflix adaptation forget Sokka was the only boy left to protect his village. He believed it was his duty to protect the weak. When he came across warriors that were women, he felt they knew nothing. Only to be humbled, he’d apologize, and accept he was wrong. He even fell in love with one of them (Suki). Sokka’s sexism came not just from his own trauma and trying to fill his father’s shoes, but also the fact that Water Tribe culture is very strict re: gender roles. This showed that although the Fire Nation were the bad guys each nation still had its own flaws and issues. Plus, by showing a likeable main character overcoming their prejudices, it does a better job teaching people to not be prejudiced than by just having the villains be prejudiced. This plot point is a HUGE focus on Sokka's initial development. He is not just some goofy side kick non bender. He learned that his views were flawed and GREW from it. This issue is still relevant to today and not just back in the early 2000s.
2. “We had to make it a serialized Netflix drama, which meant it couldn’t just be for kids. It had to also appeal to the people who are big fans of Game of Thrones.”
Tumblr media
I'm fed up with the common misconception that making something appealing to adults necessitates it being dark and gritty. It's an oversimplified assumption that overlooks the nuanced maturity already present in the story. This series masterfully incorporated mature themes that resonated with audiences of all ages. From the genocide of the Air Nation to instances of child abuse endured by characters like Zuko, and the exploration of sexism within the Northern Water Tribe, ATLA didn't shy away from addressing complex issues. It also delved into cultural erasure, the horrors of war, the pitfalls of autocratic governance, and the struggles of characters dealing with PTSD, depression, and mental illness. These elements added depth and resonance to the narrative. Pushing for further grimness to cater to a different fanbase would undermine the series' existing richness and maturity.
3. “We decided to make Aang’s narrative drive a little clearer. In the first season of the animated series, he’s kind of going from place to place looking for adventures. He even says, ‘First, we’ve got to go and ride the elephant koi.’ It’s a little looser as befits a cartoon. We needed to make sure that he had that drive from the start. […] We essentially give him this vision of what’s going to happen and he says, ‘I have to get to the Northern Water Tribe to stop this from happening.’ That gives him much more narrative compulsion going forward.”
Tumblr media
Giving Aang this drive right from the start completely changeshis character. A significant aspect of his development in the first season involves transitioning from someone who simply longed for a carefree childhood to one destined to fulfill the role of the Avatar. Remember, he's just 12 years old. Aang's sense of being overwhelmed by the weight of his Avatar duties is precisely why he fled and ultimately became trapped in ice. He wasn't eager to embrace his Avatar status, and that reluctance doesn't vanish overnight. He's a child burdened with the unimaginable responsibility of saving the world and stopping an entire nation. That essence of childhood doesn't evaporate with acceptance of his fate; it remained a fundamental aspect of his character arc across all three seasons. Maintaining his childlike innocence while navigating such weighty responsibilities is central to Aang's appeal and adds depth to his character. Moreover, the numerous detours the "gaang" takes contribute significantly to world-building, a vital element that imbued the original series with its charm. Will the remake ignore all of this???
In today's media landscape, there's a growing tendency to portray main characters as almost too flawless. While it's important to have protagonists that viewers can connect with and support, that doesn't mean they should be devoid of any imperfections. Flaws are what lend characters their humanity and depth, providing them with the opportunity to evolve and improve as the narrative unfolds. When a character begins the story with flawless beliefs and actions, it leaves little room for growth, resulting in a stagnant character arc.
Tumblr media
I'm really concerned about how Zuko's and Azula's character development will be handled in the remake. They're both quite flawed characters, especially Azula. She was portrayed as being evil, yet also struggling with mental health issues. It's important to recognize that both aspects can coexist, and one doesn't excuse the other. This complexity was depicted well in the show's final season. I hope they won't simplify or remove these traits in the remake.
And what's next? Will they remove the beloved cabbage man too?

But, how would Felix and Vampire Reader meet? In a party? They were visiting his old friend Duncan? They had some business with Ser James that they needed to do?
Also; if little Felix saw them when he was a kid, I just know that he had a crush on them!
Okay so I've fucked around with supernatural creature lore a few different times with different fandoms, and I've mixed up yet another new version of vampires for this AU but it diverges pretty significantly from traditional vampire lore.
So in this version, Vampirism is essentially a genetic mutation that can also be passed on like an infection.
You can become a vampire by ingesting a vampire's blood. It has to be ingested; blood to blood contact (like if they bite you but they have a split lip or something) doesn't work, ingesting any other vampire bodily fluid also doesn't work (good news for people wanting to engage in foreplay with vampires and stay human). People turned this way will stay the age that they were turned until they are killed.
You can be born a vampire. Bitten vampires will have their DNA change to having two Vampire genes; vampirism is an inherently recessive gene. A vampire and a person without any vampire parents will have a human child with a dormant vampire gene. If two human people who both have the dormant vampire gene have a child, there is a 1/4 chance the baby will be a vampire. If a vampire and a human with a vampire gene have a child, there is a 3/4 chance the baby will be a vampire.
Born vampires are inherently more powerful than bitten vampires. The most powerful and rarest are those born of two full, born vampire parents.
While vampire venom is one of the many things that keeps humans coming back to them, some to the point of addiction, due to it's intoxicating qualities, especially when released in the blood stream (like when ur bitten on the neck), vampires themselves are inherently VERY allergic to any other vampire's venom. Whether it be on skin, ingested, or in the blood, it's immediately blisteringly painful (actual blisters do form if the venom comes in contact with the skin). Vampire blood and other fluids do not have this effect. Sad news for vampires looking to go down on other vampires, but as long as you don't kiss open mouthed you can still make a baby vampire that will be more powerful than either of you combined. Most vampires obviously don't bother.
All born vampires age at the same rate as humans, but stop aging at 25, once their brain is fully developed.
All this to say that I think the reader and Felix's meeting may even be a little more tragic than the original. They're still just a kid when they meet, but they're kept mostly isolated, especially from their parents, after their powers start properly developing. They're brought out pretty frequently at charity events to coerce patrons into adoring them and listening to them and spending more money when they ask. They're given lines and fake back stories and new personas to play; they're never allowed to tell anyone they're a vampire, especially since they're parents are still keeping up the illusion of being human. They're also not allowed to tell people about their parents still, because this would all look very bad for their parents, obviously.
Felix and Reader meet at the charity auction on the boat. They're both ten. For the first time in their life, the reader is desperately trying not to put out any kind of aura or charm or enthral anyone on the boat, even knowing their parents and "handlers" won't be too pleased about it.
Felix is the first person, they fully believe, to approach them of his own free will in what feels to them like forever. It takes a lot of concentration to keep their aura in check, so they know they come off quite strange, but they've never been allowed to be strange or off-putting before, and even so, Felix doesn't seem to mind.
Its also why they're so weird that first summer at Saltburn; they're working very hard to make the Cattons like them without using their aura and they're very new to that.
Duncan, who is Much Much older than even Saltburn estate itself, is the first to recognise why the reader is struggling, and ends up taking them under his wing. They do actually start off only drinking animal blood that the Cattons have delivered for him, and he's the one who gets them to eventually open up to the family about being a vampire.
The reader, however, isn't always perfect with controlling their aura, and is very worried about whether or not they've earned the affection they get. Except both big early moments/developments in their relationship with Felix (him asking them to bite him, and him telling them he loves them in a kind of childish, summer love way) happen (albeit over two years) when the reader has been making a very focused effort not to charm him with their powers, so they're SHOCKED. Flabbergasted even, that he could genuinely like them that much without any supernatural influence.
I love them possibly too much. God this was a ramble, sorry 😅😅

jedi maul: orderly, fastidious, a massive fucking nag, weird mix of rule breaker and rule follower, standoffish and sulky with a tendency toward the extreme. no one wants to give him a padawan and he doesn’t want to take one, but when he does wind up with one he trains them in the most extreme way possible, an unfortunate by product of his short but damaging tenure as a sith apprentice before he was brought to the temple at age 10. has definitely pushed a padawan off a building once so they’d learn to force pull and grab onto a ledge. (why is everyone mad at him. it WORKED, didn’t it?) surprisingly smooth and elegant despite his preference to solve problems decisively (or, as he’d call it, with “situationally appropriate displays of force” aka violence). despite this, he’s not at all an out of control jedi, though he will always struggle not to grasp for the dark side when scared. has a vague memory of having siblings and, despite many reminders not to, is secretly looking for them; this need to find his brothers could become an attachment if he isn’t careful, and becomes his biggest draw to lean on the dark side once again. has a complicated (read: negative) relationship to dathomir, and vacillates violently between wishing to know more about where he comes from and being angry that mother talzin essentially sold him to the dark side. his ongoing struggles have delayed his promotion to master. his insecurities make him believe he just isn’t good enough, which upsets him, when in reality his spirit is unsettled and the council doesn’t want to ask more of him until he’s ready. but maul has a Complex About Everything and thinks he’s being judged for being sith-trained. has a rival-friendship with obi wan (but if you ask him he will deny this. kenobi who?) oddly enough he’s good friends with depa. caleb dume likes to bicker with him. because of course maul would argue with a child.
jedi ventress: the chaos to maul’s order and discipline. even as a jedi she is a wild child, and enjoys causing problems for reasons. he avoids her most of the time, but he eventually becomes a peer-mentor-sort when he realizes she also struggles to stay in the Light. (alternatively, if she was significantly younger in this au, she could be his goblin padawan. he throws her off twice as many buildings.) if maul is pissed off, guaranteed either ventress, kenobi, or vos are involved.

the bowling episode & cat in the wall meta (deetress)
I think bowling is a turning point for dee. we got an insight into her mind and how significantly dennis affects her. importantly, she managed to defeat him. but rather than her victory being centred, as it previously would be, on her relationship with the gang, when she turns around, they arent there. she is unable to define her victory by their response. obviously this is painful for her, but it also demonstrates that she can now win without the gang's support. only the waitress was still there for her. the waitress, imo, represents a new path for dee. not away from the gang, because obviously that will never happen, but someone to rely on. her equivalent to mac and dennis or charlie and frank.
in mac and dennis break up, dee is shown to be the only member of the gang without someone to rely on. and so the episode about 'twosomes' and frienship ends with her alone, stuck in the wall. I think dee has been 'stuck in the wall' for a long, long time. obviously she is friends with the gang. but, charlie for example, can take being badly treated by mac for an episode and be fine because he has frank to rely on. even though mac and dennis have a more rocky relationship, they have never permanently left each other. in comparison, dee is badly treated by them but has no one to back her up. this must hurt for her because dennis is her twin, the one person who should be always on her side. and he is, in a way, but she must also battle against him. this season expanded upon her and frank's relationship, but he will always prefer charlie to her - the only one he thinks of as his child.
therefore dee is stuck in an odd group. she is 'stuck in the wall'. I think the waitress could be the only one to save her and get her out of the wall. the waitress, despite calling her ugly, stood up for dee against dennis. she chose dee against the man she once would do anything for. in that moment, dee had someone to rely on. the waitress also, similarly to the ireland episodes, represented her foil. she effortlessly stood up to dennis, whereas dee couldn't. she bested him physically (he literally broke his hand, numbers dont count) whereas dee couldn't. the waitress, perhaps, represents what dee needs most.
the reason they can start a new relationship as a (potential) 'twosome' is because the episode also marks a turning point for the waitress. the shift of her character from charlie's love interest/victim to dee's foil started in the ireland episodes. she manages to get the acting gig, pulls dee out of the bog and then sinks in her place, essentially unwillingly sacrificing herself for dee. their relationship was still harmful in the ireland episodes - they were taking from each other. but their mutuality was imo cemented in the bowling episode.
charlie is intentionally written as distracted and uninterested during his matches with the waitress. he talks to her casually, bothers her a bit but benignly, and runs off as soon as he can in order to do something else off screen. he now has his own life, off screen, away from her. in the same way she always had her own life separate from him. they are finally equal. I think this shows how the waitress isnt a significant part of charlie's life anymore.
on a meta level, the waitress is present in the episode because of her plot with dee, not because of a plot point with charlie. she is also willingly there and organised it herself, rather than being stalked or kidnapped or randomly showing up in ireland as if her life centres around the gang (which we know is not true). more importantly, if the gang hadnt intervened, dee would have spent time with the waitress without them. they have carved a space away from the gang together (even though dee was pushy about it). their relationship doesn't only exist within the context of charlie anymore.
the waitress has flourished with this change. she doesnt drink throughout the episode, has the funds to organise a bowling team, has friends, is making bowling shirts and is clearly working out (the kick). she is miles apart from where she was during charlie and dee find love.
bowling is proof that the waitress doesnt have to be stuck in her cycle of sobriety and addiction. she has successfully severed herself from charlie. charlie, along with her drinking, was a product of the stagnancy present in all sitcoms. no matter what happened in an episode, he would always keep stalking her and she would always start drinking again. but iasip has proved that its characters can transform (mfhp). and so I think her friendship with dee could be proof of a new direction for her. similarly, dee has been stagnant and 'stuck in the wall' since the show's beginning. she hasn't had anyone to pull her out. but the waitress, by standing up for her against dennis, is proof that this can change for her. dee can look outside of the gang, and have someone to rely on.
they can free each other.

Continuing to think about Nico's death aura sensing, it would be interesting—and add some really fun humanoid abomination elements to him, really lean into the fact that the demigods are only partially human, I'd love it if the demigods had moments where they come off as inhuman—if it turned out that him turning Bryce into a ghost was related to that somehow. I mean, we don't actually know how he did that, and honestly he probably doesn't know either; he has no memory of anything between Bryce threatening Reyna and waking up from his coma three days later. Everything both Nico and we the readers know about Bryce's death is learned secondhand from Reyna and Hedge at least three days after it happened. Nico could've used any trick in his arsenal to do that, we have no way of knowing how he pulled it off and unless he does it again without losing all memory of it we probably never will.
But it would be interesting if the way he pulled that off involved the aura of death that we know he can feel. Like... for instance, if he could forcibly strengthen it to a lethal degree. There's no real details on whether the death aura is just a sign of approaching death or if it could cause it in any way, but that means it could potentially cause death, at least if Nico (as a child of Hades) fucks with it. After all, we've never been explicitly told it can't! And that might also explain why killing Bryce that way did so much damage to Nico: if the death aura shows how close someone is to death, then forcibly strengthening it to force a young, healthy person to drop dead on the spot would logically be an extremely difficult thing to do just because of how much it would need to be strengthened to reach the point where it became lethal. And it absolutely would not help that a lot of Nico's powers are exhausting to use at the best of times. Or that in this particular case he's already half-killed himself shadow travelling the Athena Parthenos halfway around the world.
It's also just an absolutely terrifying power for Nico to have; all the characters in these books could kill with their powers, but having the ability to kill someone just by essentially willing them to die is, while not necessarily more effective than other means (and given Bryce's death knocks Nico out cold for three days in some ways it's probably significantly less effective depending on how much of that was killing Bryce and how much was the cumulative effect of all that shadow travel), a significantly more intimidating way to kill someone than stabbing or drowning or beating to death or whatever. And something you could have a lot of fun with both in terms of discussion of power levels and in fics about Nico having to come to terms with the fact that he can if he so chooses just decide someone should die and carry that out without ever touching them, with doing so only getting easier with every day older his target gets. ...And also it plays well with my favourite headcanon that if Nico is faced with someone who's already actively dying he could if he so chose finish them with basically zero effort just by manipulating the death that's already hanging right over their head. So, you know. It's fun for me.

Why the Funtime Animatronics are terrifying
Content Warning: Mentions of child murder
My last post was a design analysis of Ballora in which I talked about all the reasons I find her so haunting. I had a lot of fun writing it and so I thought, why not do it for the rest of the Funtimes? Although I will be mentioning her, I wont be going into much detail, so if you want to check out the full post you can do so here. Otherwise, I want to take a look at each animatronic, going over their aesthetic design as well as their blueprints, voice lines and gameplay mechanics to explain why I love them and maybe share some theories too. I will be annotating the blueprints as I understand the small text could be hard to read. So, without further ado, let's get into it!
Funtime Foxy
"A performance was demanded of me, and now I have delivered! Encore!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Keeping in mind the whole Circus theme, I think Foxy most closely resembles a Ringmaster. The shape of his torso, the red in his bowtie and the loud booming voice we hear in UCN sells that for me. I think my favourite thing about this iteration of Foxy is how alive he looks. It's not everyday we get a Foxy that is so shiny and new! Now, Funtime Foxy's blueprints are pretty easy to understand but there are two interesting things to note. The first is that section D directs the reader to "Circus Baby dir07" meaning the remote activation of his floor anchor is controlled by her. The second is his size, he is the shortest and the lightest of the four. All in all, Funtime Foxy isn't the most intimidating of the bunch, I'd say despite the sharp teeth he actually looks quite cute and friendly. However, there's a reason for that. Funtime Foxy wasn't made to kill, he was made to lure. He, like Ballora, was created to help keep guests entertained to distract them away from Funtime Freddy and/or Circus Baby, the two animatronics big enough to store the bodies of the victims, the two designed to kill. Although Funtime Foxy doesn't speak in SL, his UCN voice lines all relate to him performing. His UCN gameplay also sees the player keeping track of showtime, the player being jump scared if they aren't watching his stage once the time ticks over. Again, Funtime Foxy is an entertainer, luring guests to his stage to keep attention away from Circus Baby and Funtime Freddy when their.. other services are needed.
Funtime Freddy
"Bon-Bon, Say hi to our friends!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again with the Circus theme, I think Funtime Freddy resembles a Magician. He has the black bowtie, the top hat and he even has a little bunny friend, Bon-Bon! Although, I don't think Freddy can pull him out of his hat.. Honestly, I think he is kind of adorable, especially with his little hand puppet Bon-Bon at his side, but his blueprints are where things start to get more ominous. Ignoring the glaringly obvious child body inside Freddy's stomach, each section gives us something pretty intriguing. Bon-Bon allows him to essentially have eyes on the back of his head, while he himself can mimic voices and keep track of how close his victim is. As mentioned above, I think Funtime Freddy is one of the two killer animatronics, alongside Circus Baby. However, Funtime Freddy raises some questions. Why is he significantly smaller than Circus Baby? Does he have the same claw inside his stomach? Well, I believe that he probably does have the same claw, but because he doesn't need space for the internal ice cream dispenser or the air hose attachment like Circus Baby has, he has no need to be as big. Afterall, he has Bon-Bon and his voice mimicking feature to lure kids in! If you yourself have a different theory, please feel free to let me know!
Circus Baby
"You won't die, but you'll wish you could."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everybody's favourite little (huge) Jester, Circus Baby, isn't really one that needs much explanation from me. We all know what she looks like and we all know what she's capable of. Despite her blueprints wanting you to believe she is totally innocent, her voice lines and minigame tell us a different story. What I want to explore is why she was designed to look like a Jester. For those who aren't aware, Jester's privilege is the ability and right of a Jester to talk and mock freely without being punished. In a way, Jesters were free to question and mock the King because of this privilege. We know Circus Baby was modelled after Elizabeth Afton, but maybe she was also designed as a Jester to signify Elizabeth's place beside her father, William Afton, and how she would often disobey (question/mock) her father's orders, the way she did when Circus Baby killed her. Her being the tallest, most powerful animatronic and having remote control over functions inside Funtime Foxy and Ballora also serves to remind us how important she is. Just food for thought. Anyway, I love Circus Baby because I think her lore is incredibly interesting, but I also simply love her design. She was so unlike anything we'd ever seen before in the franchise and she really breathed new life into the story.
Tumblr media
Overall, I think the Funtimes are really fascinating because they were so unlike anything that came before them. The idea of Circus Baby's Pizza World was so different and this was the first time we saw animatronics that were undeniably created for the purpose of killing. By the time of Pizzeria Simulator we also found out about the scooper being used to experiment with Remnant. Sister Location is, to this day, one of my favourite FNAF games and I will never forget the feeling I got watching the opening cutscene, seeing the secret ending to Circus Baby's minigame or even seeing Ennard through the Scooping Room window. I am really excited to see what comes from the upcoming release of Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted 2 and I can't wait to write more design analysis posts and theories of some of my other favourites from across the franchise!

My Little Nightmares headcanons
This is probably messy to read I apologize! Remember these headcanons are just for fun & while some of them might have roots in canon they are ONLY headcanons! ❤️
The sound of Nightmares 🎧 (TSON)
- Sisi & Otto were foster kids adopted by the same family (no biological relation)
- I don't personally think Sisi/Cici is Six but I lean of her being the RCG from VLN
- Sisi could be an entirely different character to begin with
- Noone is blonde
- Children in the Waking world are still super small just as in the games
Very Little Nightmares (VLN)
- the pretender has parents
- IF the pretender & RCG do have a time loop situation it's of the easiest to be broken
- RCG & The pretender are friends! Then eventually they'll become friends who are also girls and beyond that who knows!
- The pretender is porcelain but can still grow
- The pretender gave RCG the name Rain because children who enter the Nowhere eventually lose their memories from the Waking world.
- The pretender's parents are out on business, somewhere. Either in the pale city or some location from TSON 🎧
LN comics
- The long haired girl & the boy in green are siblings
- The hunched back girl has powers of some kind (shown off in the comics but unsure what kind of powers they are exactly)
- ⭐ refugee boy & his sister as well as the hunched back girl were born in the Nowhere (More on this in a bit)
Little Nightmares (LN)
- The Lady & Six are the same person (time loop)
- There were four previous ladies before the current one (Lady Six). But these four were different individuals filling a title rather than the same person completing a loop four different times!
- Lady 1 passed her powers to lady 2, from her to Lady 3, and I believe Lady 4 wasn't killed but sent to the flooded parts of the Maw to become the granny by Lady 5 (or the 1st version of her anyways)
- Lady 5/Adult Six & Six have been in their own time loop for quite awhile. Maybe it's because the Nowhere finds their time loop particularly entertaining or the supply of (misery/souls/meat/whatever else the Nowhere sustains itself off of) has been significantly more than what those past four ladies could provide it. Time loop = entertaining & or Time loop = efficiency.
- The Lady is close with the doctor, the teacher, the hunter, and the barber due to having their portraits hung around the Maw.
- Children can't permanently die & we'll just essentially respond unless 1 of 3 events occur: 1) The soul reaches a breaking point/corruption & just can't continue. 2) They get taken out by a power strong enough to perma kill them - the pretender's ability to just evaporate you completely as in VLN. 3) The Nowhere consumes them in one way or another
- The flashlight girl is the daughter of the Lady (Adoptive or biological)
- The flashlight girl's model is taller than Six & Seven's models so I think she's closer to her teenage years 13 years old
- Not many HCs on Runaway kid other than his 'name' is Seven & he's 9 years old
Little Nightmares 2 (LN2)
- Mono & the thin man are the same person (Time Loop)
- The Thin man is one individual rather than a role to be filled (like the Lady)
- The thin man is a TV show/Radio host
- Thin man & The lady still keep in contact somehow (I like the idea of messaging birds)
- The hunter is Six's adoptive parent
- Spoon girl & Lollipop kid are friends! She 100% protects him from the monster's every time
- Mono came from an orphanage that caught fire (based off the LN2 comics)
Misc
- ⭐ Non hostile adults exist in the Nowhere (Refugee boy comes from a village after all) These villages were probably formed by children who were able to grow up without becoming monsters or puppets to the Nowhere (The Lady/Thin man)
- The Nowhere probably isn't fond of anything that isn't misery so I think these villages could make deals with powerful entities or the Nowhere itself so that the entity gains something for protection (probably a child sacrifice- yeah....)
There's still more I can put here but that can come later once I've posted all my drawings I've been doing for my main blog! Thank you for reading!

The thing about the Oropher & Cloudryad, Thranduil, Lasgen line up is that there isn’t even 50 between Oropher/Cloudryad and Lasgen, despite them being grandchild and grandparents respectively.
And that’d be fine if they were humans, but these are elves. 50 years becomes essentially worthless really fast.
Oropher and Cloudryad awoke 10 years before they had Thranduil and Miriel, and Thranduil had Lasgen when he was 38.
So the dynamic is rather interesting despite them being 3 generations.
In addition to the traditional parent/child dynamic, there’s also a strong friend/mutual respect as individuals happening between the 4 of them.
Bc in truth, no one can really pull seniority over each other, because there essentially is none. As a result, neither Oropher, Cloudryad, nor Thranduil weaponize “i am your father/mother” between them. Granted they don’t do it in general even with Lasgen’s siblings, but it’s especially notable between these 4.
Like with Lasgen’s siblings (Lirion, Kleoyia, and Legolas) there’s still over 4000 years between them and the 4, and that’s enough time to genuinely say “hey, i have more experience with xyz, so please listen to me”.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Furthermore, the dynamic between Lasgen, Lirion, Kleoyia, and Legolas is also rather interesting, because it’s a wierd mix between “x is significantly older than me, so i should listen to them” and “age doesn’t impact the dynamic at all”.
Lasgen was born at Lake cuivinen, Lirion was born somewhere around the time the 1st age became the 2nd age, Kleoyia was born a millenia after that, and Legolas was born a millenia after that.
So with at least a millenia between each sibling, there is a genuine experience gap between them. And it also means that each elf got “baby sibling/only sibling” treatment for a significant amount of time before the next sibling came.
And you’d think that, with all the older siblings being well into adulthood it’d mean that they aren’t close due to the age gap.
But that’s not what happened at all.
See, while they know and acknowledge where they stand in terms of experience, it doesn’t really impact or influence their dynamic.
Like yes, Legolas is the baby sibling, but that’s not his role in the dynamic of the 4. And Lasgen’s the eldest, but that isn’t why she’s in charge (she’s in charge bc she does not let anyone tell her what to do, it’s personality trait).
And to be fair, all 4 of them do not like being told what to do, regardless of who it is. So the dynamic between them can’t be related to “rank” or any such concepts, because that’ll just cause infighting.
Instead the dynamic is much closer to what you will find in close friends, though with extra platonic love in there.
It also helps that none of the 4 believe in the notion that “you’re too old to be doing something”. So none of them feel belittled when a sibling that’s younger than them asks them to help with something you can only get better at through experience.
Also, chaos in general is pretty standard at their home bc how else would they stay sane after thousands of years, so if they want to make a mold of their foot and poor melted candy into it to make a candy foot, you can’t stop them.
INCOMING WALL OF TEXT RANT: There will never be a moment when I will understand why some people wanted Sigyn to be included in God of War, considering Santa Monica's clear direction with Atreus and Angrboða for future installments. Sigyn was never suggested nor presented as a character throughout the Norse era; Angrboða, on the other hand, has been referenced once since 2018 in Jörmungandr's shrine, implying her inclusion as a character even before the announcement of Ragnarök came out. Jörmungandr's reveal and mentions of Fenrir and Hel (along with Angrboða's mural) within his shrine from 2018 are obvious from the very beginning.
Tumblr media
I also don't understand why Santa Monica's exclusion of Sigyn in God of War: Ragnarök is considered inaccurate; the franchise itself is loosely alluded to from various mythological sources, and they were never traditional nor faithful from those same sources and used creative liberties for storytelling purposes. Literally, the entire Greek Saga was never accurately represented to begin with, and for some reason, Sigyn's exclusion in GOW is where you draw the line? But okay, some accurate depictions from said mythological sources can be alright as long they serve the narrative or contribute significantly to the main story; Angrboða as Atreus' love interest is one of them, and there are many instances that emphasize his relationship with Angrboða. Atreus consistently found himself in the presence of adults throughout his childhood, resulting his rapid maturity at a young age from the grim reality that no child shouldn't deserve, particularly within the universe of GOW. Angrboða is the first individual around his age he ever encountered and offers him a safe haven from the grim reality he has to endure, especially after he learnt of his father's prophetic death. Angrboða's childlike nature and the comforting atmosphere of Ironwood allow Atreus to escape from the darker aspects of GOWverse, the sanctuary where he can finally embrace his own age and behave like any carefree child as he should be, which is one of the main reasons why Kratos trusted Angrboða in the first place; because of her benevolent nature and companionship with Atreus, that's when Kratos knew that his son would be in good hands under Angrboða's care. I seen a few people argued that Sigyn should have been the one to guide Atreus instead of Angrboða, as Angrboða is supposedly Loki's "mistress" with Sigyn as his true wife in the Norse mythos, and one even claimed that Angrboða essentially "stole" Sigyn's place when really…that's not the case?
As far as we know (from storywise perspective), Atreus has a keen interest in his Giant lineage, not only because it's tied to his identity as Loki but also to his mother as a whole. Faye never had the opportunity to teach Atreus about their heritage due to Odin's prejudice towards Giants, she's was also recognized as an sworn enemy as "Laufey The Just" from the Æsir clan (specifically Thor & Odin), not only she had to conceal her identity from Odin but also to ensure the safety of her own family.
Atreus even thought the entire race of Giants had perished from Odin's genocide campaign...that is until he meets Angrboða, the first Giant he ever encounters, who then guides Atreus through understanding their heritage within the hidden sanctuary away from Odin. She also gave Atreus the necessary tools and purpose to restore the kingdom of Jötunheim and gains a deeper understanding of Loki's identity as part of his coming-of-age story. That's what makes Angrboða so important to Atreus' character arc along with why she's an essential addition for Ragnarök. And if we're going by the material sources from Norse Mythology, Angrboða is only mentioned as Loki's mate rather than his mistress. It's possible that Loki loved Angrboða just like he did with Sigyn, so Atreus being Angrboða's love interest is expected and aligns accurately with the material sources depicted in GOW. And what also gets me are those awful speculations regarding the possibility of Thrúd and Sigyn being the same person, and combining the fact that Dude Bros preferred Atreus with Thrúd due to skin color is just exhausting at this point...and from what I have observed; Sigyn is always depicted as a white woman in most media, which strengthens my hope she never appears in future installments at all. It's obvious that Angrboða will probably appear again in the long run due to her recent development and promising potential in the future. Sigyn's inclusion seems unnecessary, and I hope Santa Monica never considers about writing Angrboða off just to pair Atreus with Sigyn for the sake of it. TL;DR: I think Angrboða is a better match for Atreus rather than Sigyn in GOW. I'm sick and tired with certain fans dismissing Angrboða's importance and deeming her unworthy as Atreus' wife, especially when it comes to her race and her erroneous label as Loki's "mistress" solely because Sigyn was Loki's actual wife in Norse Mythology. Anyone who hates Angrboða because of Sigyn are just bitter that their favorite character isn't there to fulfill their Logyn ship with Atreus. Angrboða and Atreus are going to be a thing. Cope and seethe.
Recently I was talking about mythology with a friend and Zeus happened to come up, as usual due to the myths depicting him in a bad light, she doesn't have the best opinion of him and I remembered seeing somewhere here on Tumblr, a post that talks about him kinda tragically as to why he had to have all his children and something about him being able to see the future. My question is, do you know of the post or a similar one, so I can show my friend?
Hello, love!
I think the post you’re referring to is actually one of mine. I unfortunately can’t find that particular one however I can summarize my point here for you to show to your friend.
So most people often forget or don’t realize that Zeus is leader of the fates meaning he can not only see Fate but it’s HIS job as supreme leader to execute Fate’s plan. This can be seen in action in The Iliad when Zeus knows exactly how the dominoes need to fall (Hector kills Patroclus, Achilles kills Hector). The Iliad also shows how tragic this role is for Zeus. He knows his beloved son will be killed during Fate’s plan and despite all his power he can not intervene to save his child. Firstly because as I said it’s his job to execute Fate’s plan and failure to do so would result in the entire world order collapsing. Secondly, as Hera reminds him, he has to lead by example. If he saves his child then the other gods would see that as permission to do the same, once again leading to the destruction of Fate’s plan and our world order.
With that all in mind let’s talk about Zeus and his many children. To be a child of Zeus automatically means you are destined for greatness. All of Zeus’ children have impacted and changed their world significantly. They are heroes. They are rulers. They are leaders. They are legends. So clearly these children must play an essential role in Fate’s plan, right? And who again can see Fate’s plan and is shouldered with the burden to execute it? Zeus. Those children NEED to be born in order for Fate to play out the way it’s supposed to. So it really isn’t about Zeus being a cheater or a predator or not able to keep it in his pants. It’s him fulfilling his duty as the Leader of the Fates AND our King. He’s sacrificing himself to keep the world in balance for US.
It is tragic. Especially considering how he continuously gets treated by the majority of people. He sacrifices all of himself just to at best be a constant joke or at worst to be seen as predator. It honestly breaks my heart but also enrages me especially when I see how they treat Hades (not saying Hades doesn’t deserve love, just not a fan of the double standard). Like you can rework, reimagine, and excuse away everything unsavory about Hades and even give him a full glow up but Zeus can’t even get a teaspoon of that shit? Uh huh okay 🙄
I guess that’s just part of the job, huh? Heavy is the head that wears the crown after all. But I’ll never stop defending my Divine Father.
I hope this helps open your friend’s mind up about Zeus.
(Hello! Future me here. This has an Ask Blog now and not everything here is still canon to the AU please keep this in mind while reading ^^)
Brain rotting about a KHUX AU I came up with right now
TW: Doomsday Cult, Mass Suicide, Child and Animal Death, Child Abuse (let me know if I'm missing something here and I'll update it)
A know that's a lot but hear me out.
Its the real world, late 30s early 40s. MoM's some rich dude who takes advantage of the influx of orphans to make Daybreak Town, which in this universe is essentially some sort of experimental orphanage. He stages the "War against Darkness" (the Keyblade War equivalent) which is a mass suicide. The Dandelions are to make sure they can defeat darkness again in case it ever came back (since MoM genuinely believes in what he's doing). The NULs are in charge for a while but then the government finds out and relocates all the Dandelions to normal homes. The NULs are mostly separated and need to adjust to normal society... but they're also determined to find each other again.
(My notes are under the cut... still developing everything I'll probably add more later)
Timeline of Events (Pre-relocation):
MoM is very rich and bought a massive property and built Daybreak Town on it
MoM adopted the Foretellers and Luxu, about 13 years before he bought the property, they are orphans from the Great War
Daybreak Town was a self sustaining cult masquerading as an orphanage
A lot of farming and hunting happening
All the ‘keyblade wielders’ are orphans from the Great Depression
MoM and the Foretellers basically convinces the kids KH lore (a la time of Fairytales) is real
Every “Keyblade Wielder” has a “Chirithy” which is just a cat
The “Keyblade War” is a mass suicide designed to destroy darkness
This happens halfway into 1939
They killed most of the Chirithies too
Luxu is the only Lost Master who survives this (and he leaves soon after)
The Dandelions are to “keep the light alive”
Ephemer and Skuld save Player from the “War” by stopping them from drinking the poison
They end up switching their cup with another Dandelion’s
Ven overhears Dandelions talking about surviving and ends up switching his cup with Strelitzia’s in a panic
He realizes afterwards that she was important and filled in out of guilt
He also totally mixes his memories around here and forgets what he did
Elrena is the one who buries Strelitzia and is the one who tells Lauriam she’s dead (only once he asks about her though)
The NULs are in charge for about a year and a half before the government relocates the Dandelions
The NULs were not particularly close before then
Basically the social events of Union X (minus the murder reveal, the relocation stops that before it can happen)
The NULs and Player try their best not to be separated but end up being relocated to households decently far from each other
Ephemer ends up alone
Brain and Player are pretty close together and meet up rather quickly
Skuld, Lauriam, and Ven end up a decently close together but far enough that they don’t know yet
Elrena is placed in the same household as Lauriam
(Post relocation stuff I'm still working on but I do have some ideas)
Additional Notes:
It’s the real world, USA, and the early 40s, whoop
1941 (at the relocation) to be exact
World War 2 is in full swing and the States are involved… I think
MoM (and the NULs afterwards) were totally bribing the people who were checking in on Daybreak Town before the “war” so he could keep it open… either that or there were just too many kids to actually check to see if they were all accounted for
Probably didn’t help that they would use any dead bodies as fertiliser for their garden so there’s no clear graves for anyone
Everyone drank something during the “war” (it’s easier to convince people if they don’t think anyone’s going to survive), the Dandelions just drank from glasses without the poison
Daybreak Town is significantly more accepting of than the greater society
The NULs are completely taken aback by any type of bigotry
Poor Player gets misgendered all the time and is forced to wear masculine clothes even when they want to be more fem
Skuld cannot with gender roles
like she’s actually gonna explode with all this lack of rights business
Everyone (outside of the Dandelions) assumes Ephemer and Skuld are dating
To be clear, they are not
Player and Brain both refused to be separated from their Chirithies
Ven’s Chirithy finds him
Oh my lord these kids don’t know how to be normal
They were essentially brainwashed so they’re all stuck on the KH lore they were taught as truth
They’re all severely traumatized, obviously, but on top of the whole “Keyblade War” thing and you know, other doomsday cult stuff, they had awful healthcare and so kids would die very often and gruesomely
The NULs’ instincts are still a main reason they’re still alive
They brush off death very easily because of this, normal people are alarmed
They’re way behind on education because of their situation
Brain is definitely the most literate out of all of them but he was still limited in what he could read
Brain loves making (and deconstructing) things whether it’s sewing new clothes and plushies (something he did quite often in Daybreak Town) or the new technology, like radios and telephones (something he takes to once he’s relocated)
Brain would make plushies for “wielders” who had nightmares they were often amalgamations of various animals (just like the spirits)
He prefers to learn things through trial and error rather than being shown and he is incredibly stubborn about that
Teachers hate him for this
The new parents of Brain do their damndest to convert him to Christianity but he ends up just becoming an atheist instead
He is not quiet about it either
He probably gets beaten because of it
People find Ephemer kind of off putting
He always has a new theory about something going on with the authority based on his KH lore upbringing
He’s also one of the NULs the deepest in the delusion (Ven is the only one I think is deeper)
He’s starting to pull out of it but it’s a very slow process
He brings up death way to casually, and is always talking about his friends and their weird adventures together
Even with all that though he doesn’t really behave his age since he was forced to grow up so fast in Daybreak Town
During the Weimar Republic and again after the Second World War school architecture was a hot topic in Germany among both architects and educators. Educational concepts turned away from the authoritarian treatment of children as small adults and sought to look at education from a child-centered perspective. Along with the insight that light and air result in better hygiene and health this gave way to new forms in school architecture, most remarkably in the shape of pavilion schools.
These impulses were most prominently taken up by Martin Elsaesser in the context of the „Neues Frankfurt“ and Bruno Taut under Martin Wagner’s aegis as chief city planner of Berlin. Their schools in both cities experimented with forms and a more liberal, less teacher-centered education. Of course the pavilion schools required significantly more space than traditional multi-storey, block-like schools, a circumstance that earned this type of school fierce criticism especially in regard to cost efficiency. Accordingly pavilion schools remained an exception and only after WWII really flourished. One of its most successful advocates was Rudolf Schroeder (1897-1965), long-term municipal architect of Kiel, the capital of the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein: in his capacity he reflected the models of Elsaesser and Taut and after the war realized some 20 pavilion schools.
The latter served as backdrop for a conference at the art history department of Kiel university in 2021 entitled „Licht, Luft und eine neue Pädagogik - Die Kieler Pavillonschulen und der Schulbau der 1920er bis 1950er Jahre“. The conference contributions have been published by Verlag Ludwig in 2022 in an eponymous volume. In an exemplary manner the book organizes the essays in such a way that the architectural, educational and political context for Schroeder’s schools becomes clear. This context also includes the architect’s biography as well as an insightful essay about the education politician Toni Jensen. Together with individual surveys of each school the book offers an unprecedentedly deep insight into inter and postwar school architecture in Germany and Schleswig-Holstein. An essential publication!
Did we all just forget that Lloyd is like significantly older then Harumi?
Her parents die during the battle of the great Devourer right, and id place her at a simular age to lloyd at the time
Tumblr media
She looks about 8-10
Tumblr media
And id say he looks about the same age maybe like 9-11
So they’re the same age great everything is fine, right? Wrong.
Because in season 2 episode 5 (Child play) The rest of the ninja are turned into children by lord Garmadon and lose their powers (im not gonna give the full episode its a good one go watch it if you haven’t already) and essentially Lloyd is turned into a teen anger with the rest of the Ninja making them all roughly the same age id place them around 15-16 in the earlier seasons and after this lloyd is treated just like the other ninja so at this point he is at least a good 4 years older then Harumi. And when they meat again the the sons of Garmadon season id place Lloyd at about 17-18 witch mean Harumi is like 13-14.
So yea gross Lloyd
(you could also argue that Lloyd is like 22 and Harumi is 18 which is still kinda creepy but at least its legal)
Baby Zane as an apology
