November prompt list challenge 2022, Day 13 - Arts and Crafts
So Moon fell from the ceiling, his small latch on his back broke without reason.
And instead of receiving help by his friends/companions, they all decided to use him as their muse.

Wei Wuxian really got an arrow shot in between two of his lungs ribs, pulled it out, and then tossed it back and fucking killed the guy who shot him - If that's not fucking terrifying (and more than a little awe-inspiring) I don't know what is.

nothing to see here, just lan wangji standing still with his arms open and ready to accept his jumping husband after a dog started to bark, but instead of hugging the love of his lives, wei wuxian climbed the tree behind lan wangji and is crying pitifully hugging it

I hate to ask but who is hua Chang
Hua Cheng is the deuterantagonist of the Chinese web novel Heaven Official's Blessing! It's a historical fantasy novel about gods and ghosts and cultivators (xianxia) by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. It's also a gay romance (danmei). The main themes are destiny, love, and what it means to be a good person. It has a comic version (manhua) and one-soon-to-be-two seasons of animation (donghua).
Tumblr media
He's an 800+ year old ghost who has a sentient sword made from his own dismembered eye, runs a city, turns his enemies into blood rain, creates silver wraith butterflies and has been devotedly worshiping/pining after his god, Xie Lian, his entire life. This book is the longest hyperfixation I have ever had. So I think it's pretty good (understatement of the century).
Tumblr media
I can and have written essay length rants about him but here is a paragraph i wrote a while back about my favorite things about him, to sum up:
His gender probably. The way he looked fate in the eyes and said “fuck you, old man” and built a highly successful life of his own. How he is so fucked up but still hyper-competent. How all his strength comes from love. How his devotion changed as he grew up but never wavered. The way he is kind but not nice. His infodump swag.

"But what he hadn’t expected was that when everyone feared him and flattered him, Lan WangJi scolded him right in his face; when everyone spurned him and loathed him, Lan WangJi stood by his side."
You know what, I've been actually thinking about this quote from MZDS and like, at the face value, it's pretty poignant and romantic...
But when you actually follow the plot and think about it, it kinda rings hollow?
"But what he hadn’t expected was that when everyone feared him and flattered him, Lan WangJi scolded him right in his face" because, in their first life, 90% of the time, Wei Wuxian was an asshole to him. Like, he was full of himself, thowing himself at a person clearly uinterested, then dabbling in something that was obviously damaging him that everyone close to WWX could see.
"When everyone spurned him and loathed him, Lan WangJi stood by his side." Did he tho? Like, yeah, Lan Zhan tried to get him out of Burial Mounds and help/protect him. Which was something that Jiang Yanli and Jiang Cheng also were adamantly trying to do until Wei Wuxian made it impossible for them.
Lan Wangji didn't stand up for what Wei Wuxian fought for anymore than anyone else around them did. He didn't stand up for the Wen. His single-minded focus was Wei Wuxian and Wei Wuxian alone, yeah - but he wasn't the only one who wanted to help him.
This kind of makes me believe that the romance wasn't as well though-out as it was in the other books. Either that or, during the writing process Jiang Cheng gained on a more prominent role than it was intended...
Although now I think about it, MXTXs main couples have this sort of forcefield around them that makes people keep trying to help them and laying themselves down for them, but remaining unrecognised by the plot for it. I don't mean 'rewarded', but very often the price side-characters pay on the account of the protagonist is goddamn hefty - and then kinda glossed over, because we have to skip over to the sex and simping... And it low-key bothers me, because the same person is writing all these characters, most of them more interesting than the protagonists, and yet still flattens them out whenever the protagonist is around...
Dunno, just rambling at the late hour....

It could be the medication from the migraine fucking with me, or I am legitimy gobsmacked for words. This is so disgusting and vile to even attempt to name Yu Ziyuan any sort of mother figure to Wei Wuxian when she spent his entire life abusing him and slandering his mother.
No. Just. No.

Reading the MDZS manhua volume 2 and feeling kind of flustered over Lan Wangji. Like...he just...used his power to make Wei Wuxian just immobile to hold him in his sleep like a plushie. Him in the hot springs...
Wei Wuxian, you lucky bastard.

Wen Qing as ghost general.
It's alright, even my heart fluttered but imagine how different the plot would get, ohhh and golden core reveal scene, and how she'll be able to save more lives with her medicine and knowledge (because she'll live, kinda ), how it'll politically make it difficult for people to fear and hate the ghost general who treats people as well, the possibilities are endless.
Maybe they'll get a grip to shut up Jin clan because their sect leader is dying of illness (shush) and they need their help because she's best in her job (even if her corpse fingers are stiff to perform surgery, her knowledge is priceless), and the hundred hole curse thing as well, like she successfully performed a one of it's first and only golden core transfer surgery with her own knowledge alone in unsuitable environment, she's a mad woman. Damn.
All this would be difficult to attempt in canon because her life would very much be in mortal danger but as a ghost general, she can easily hand ass back roasted. Her knowledge and strength in exchange of her life (she burns to death, maybe the Jin clan were fearful of Wei Ying finding her corpse and turning her into a fierce corpse as well and how bad it would get for them because they acknowledge her talent and fierce personality)
Wen Ning would be eternal cinnamon roll who'll get to have memories with A-Yuan and maybe life would be a bit kinder to him with feared ghost general also well known doctor as old sis and the most powerful yilling patriarch keeping him safe from war, ofc few things can't be avoided but the possibilities.

One of my most favourite lines of Wei Wuxian was when he said, "May I have the honor of getting a glimpse from you?" to Lan Wangji. He was already so in love with him from the very beginning and just had no idea it makes me tear up

Thinking about my post where I talked about the inevitable nature of the Tragedy of the death of the Wen Remnants, one important thing I missed, I think, is how Wei Wuxian himself seemed acutely aware that it would not end well.
Wei Wuxian and Wen Ning's conversation about that makes it so frankly obvious that it honestly makes me tear up.
Despite of this being a grave topic, Wen Ning’s tone wasn’t mournful at all, as though he had already known that it would’ve happened. In reality, though, this was indeed the case. They expected the worst-case scenario countless times, as early as more than a decade ago.
Wei WuXian, “Nobody can walk safely on a single-plank bridge for their whole life. It couldn’t be helped.”
Wei Wuxian and the Wen Remnants knew that they were living on borrowed time. The tragedy was inevitable - they knew not one person who had the power to stop that tragedy would actually stop it.
And I think that is something that makes me so sad about Wei Wuxian, while simultaneously making me love him more - he knew what fate might become of him should he walk this righteous path, but that never deterred him from walking it all the same. He knew tragedy was writ into his future, but his duty and his morality meant more to him than any fear or sadness for his lost future.

Lan Wangji felt his heart skipping a beat when a very familiar laugh sounded through the quiet of Cloud Recesses, coming from somewhere nearby. Without thinking much of it, he changed directions to pass by the usual trio of friends sitting around the courtyard, talking about something Lan Wangji didn't feel like he wanted to actually pay attention.
Wei Ying was like the sun coming out from behind a large cloud, his smile, his laugh was just so bright (so beautiful). Lan Wangji almost paused his walking, but got hold of himself and averted his eyes from the beautiful boy he refuses to acknowledge stole his heart.
While doing this, he ended up looking briefly at Nie Huaisang, who sat closer to Wei Ying with a soft expression behind his opened fan.
Lan Wangji recognizes that expression. A soft tiny smile, together with soft eyes that twinkles with youthful feelings.
Oh. Oh no. He can't possibly be in l-
Lan Wangji glares.
Nie Huaisang turns around and smirks at him, before turning to give all his attention to whatever Wei Ying was saying.
Lan Wangji glared harder.
If Nie Huaisang wanted a war. He was going to have one.

"Ah! Lan Zhan!" Wei Ying exclaimed loudly with a even brighter smile on his face.
Pausing, Lan Wangji nodded at him and then continued his walking, shooting a last glare at his brother's friend's little brother, who only smirked yet again.
