“One scotch on the rocks. Make it a good one!” Said Ghost.
When the bartender returned with the drink, Ghost took his time drinking from the glass. It was as if he was savouring every drop, enjoying the smooth taste. He held up the empty glass and said, “Keep it going.” The bartender knew that Ghost meant business, so there would be no chance of an interruption in service. He attended to the latest order - Ghost asked for an entire bottle. As the bartender handed him the bottle of premium Scotch, Ghost took notice of the bartender’s pretty features in the dimly lit bar. He felt his body respond as he stared into the man’s eyes, trying not to distract himself from his beauty. He was interrupted by the bartender saying, “You have expensive tastes, Mr.…?”
Ghost nodded, replying, “Yes, you can call me Sir. My friends call me Ghost, though.”
The bartender shook his head. This Ghost character didn’t look like a gentleman at all. Then again, maybe that’s why the bartender liked him so much.
As the bartender handed over a second bottle of scotch, he thought to himself, “Woah, this guy must be loaded. A night out at the club should only cost $20, but he ordered two bottles of scotch and a round of shots. And he wants more even after everyone apart from him is gone…” As he was pouring the shot, the bartender noticed that Ghost had an odd look on his face. He then asked the bartender, “What’s your name…” in his thick English accent.
“My name is Alex, Sir.” Replied the bartender.
“Alex, how do you feel about bigger guys?” Ghost asked. The bartender had a puzzled look on his face, asking Ghost what he meant by a bigger guy; as a reply, Ghost stood up, staring down at Alex. What Ghost meant was now apparent - Ghost was about 6 foot 4 inches, while Alex was about 5 foot 10 Inches - Ghost was literally a half a foot taller than Alex; Ghost was muscular and strong, every single muscle on his body defined, while Alex had a relatively average lean physique that matched his height. Ghost walked slightly closer, holding Alex’s chin and tilting it up to look at him as he repeated the question, “How do you feel about bigger guys?”
Without skipping a beat, Alex replied, “Do I like big guys? That depends…bigger guys mean what? Big cock or just some big muscles?”
“Both, actually.” Ghost replied with a sly grin.
The bartender chuckled and returned the same questioning smile, knowing exactly what Ghost wanted. Before he could ask further questions, Alex was pushed to his knees and pulled forcefully into Ghost’s crotch by his hair. When he felt Ghost’s size through his trousers, Alex looked up and said, “You weren’t joking about being big, Sir.” Ghost replied, “Oh, I wasn’t, and you’re about to see a lot more.” With that, Ghost released Alex’s hair and walked to a nearby chair.
As Ghost sat down, his now unbuckled belt made his pants fall to the floor while he spread his legs enough to give a clear view of his fat 10-inch long cock. Alex knelt between Ghost’s legs and wrapped his mouth around the tip of Ghost’s dick.
After feeling the smoothness of Alex’s tongue circling the head of his dick, he let out a deep moan and was instantly turned on. Without thinking twice, he slapped Alex’s face playfully as he laughed and continued, “That’s better. Now take it all down your throat, you stupid slut.”
Once Alex had taken a full 10 inches of his cock down his throat, Ghost reached behind him, grabbed Alex’s head and started fucking his face roughly, making Alex gag. Even though he hated having his voice muffled when getting fucked, he loved having Ghost pound his face. So much so that it didn’t even matter if he couldn’t talk afterwards.
When he began fucking Alex harder, Alex started gagging even more but soon realised it was part of the experience. His gag reflex triggered almost immediately, and he came back up for air saying, “Sorry, Sir… you-you’re too big,” while he panted for air.
To which Ghost replied, “It doesn’t bother me, and I’m gonna fuck you till you choke anyway.” And with that, he tightly grabbed Alex’s head, shoving his 10-inch cock entirely down his throat. “Don’t stop unless I tell you to.”
At first, Alex struggled to breathe; as he tried to breathe through his nose, the pace Ghost kept up made it very hard to breathe even a little. However, after a couple minutes, Alex felt comfortable taking all 10 inches of Ghost’s massive cock down his throat. When he did manage to take a deep breath, he instinctively started moving forward in sync with Ghost’s thrusts. As Alex went deeper, Ghost tightened his grip on Alex’s head, pushing it further into his lap and held him there as he slowly pumped away. Alex kept moaning, letting out muffled moans that didn’t come close to masking the loud slapping sounds that his face made against the back of Ghost’s seat.
By the end of their session, Alex had become addicted to having his face covered in cum and felt an amazing sensation building up inside of him, almost as if he needed another load to make him happy. The lustful urges running through his mind couldn’t be suppressed anymore. “Sir… I need it… I need it… please fuck me until I cum… I-I’ll suck it off of your cock afterwards, please… I want you to fill me up with your warm cum…Ghost only chuckled.

Ignoring how current writers have been nudging in this direction, do you think Sonic and Amy have any genuine chemistry with each other?
I'm going to upset a follower or two and say... no, not really.
Their dynamic started out as a trope: Amy, the kid, falls for an older free spirit. It's the same thing as a 9 year old reading an issue of, like, Tiger Beat magazine or something and developing a crush on Justin Bieber or whatever celebrity "cute boy" is currently the "in" thing.
The joke being that instead of fawning all over him from the pages of a magazine, Amy Rose confronts him in person, and he has to be like "Uhhhh, thanks, but no thanks." But she hangs around anyway because she's crushing super hard. It's meant to be cute and one sided and harmless.
It became a problem when Amy started getting aggressive about it. When she began talking about forcefully taking Sonic. It very quickly stopped being cute. There are multiple horror movies about that exact topic.
They thankfully backed down from that, and I didn't mind how simple and cute it was in, say, Sonic Unleashed, where it went back to being just this nice little crush she had. She was there to support Sonic.
Where I start to draw the line is something that started with Sonic Boom, where Sonic is portrayed as someone in a position to reciprocate Amy's feelings. It's supposed to be funny, but there's this undercurrent of "will they/won't they" where they both kind of get nervous when the topic gets brought up and neither wants to admit feelings for the other.
That's just as weird to me as the days where Amy was expressing her love for Sonic violently, because Amy is definitely supposed to be younger than Sonic.
This is its own whole can of worms, because some would (rightfully) say that ages in Sonic games don't matter. It's rare that anyone acts their age anymore, and that's true of the modern interpretations of the characters.
And then there's the whole thing about age differences in relationships at all. Some people are only comfortable with a difference of 2-3 years, while others are comfortable with much wider gaps.
I'm of the opinion that the older you are, the less it matters. If you're 50 and you're dating someone that's 40, I would argue there's not much difference there. The more mileage you have, the smaller the differences become.
But if you're, like, 15? And you're dating someone that's supposed to be 10 or 11 years old? Then it gets real weird, real fast, for a multitude of reasons. We grow up a lot in a very short amount of time. And I say this as someone who, when he was 17, had a girlfriend that turned 16 while they were together. I was sat down and given "the talk" about how, when I was 18, it would be a long time until she was also 18.
You know. For reasons.
So while you could say that the modern interpretations of these characters all act roughly the same age (with Tails and Cream as an exception), I still remember the days where Amy Rose was meant to be this young little groupie with a one-sided crush on this older guy that rejected her advances.
Flipping that script and saying that Sonic is actually a little reciprocal now...?
Ew.
Doesn't matter how appealing they make Amy to Sonic. Ew ew ew.

used DeepL translator this time cus google was acting odd;
"I wonder how LMK canon will interact with au monkey king and the infant XDD it would be hilarious to see such a relaxed and confident version of the monkey king (he shows his flaws and doesn't hide them, canon wukong) and that macaque is a fierce mother who makes mats with her eyes and that the two are together bjsabd."
I have considered scenarios where the Canon LMK characters interact with their Au counterparts XD
Like a glitch in the Wukongverse leads to the canon and the au verses colliding.
Canon & Au MK, at the same time: "Wow! Another me! Why are you in monkey/human form tho? Huh!? I've always been like this! Wait..." Au!MK: "Wait... you're not like a default monkey? That must be weird for mom and dad." Canon!MK: "WHOM???" *cue both MKs screaming. Canon and Au shadowpeach approach one another* Canon!SWK, pokes Au!Wukong's stomach: "Whoa, this version of me has really let himself go..." Au!SWK, annoyed: "And look, this me is still an emotionally immature slob." *grabs canon!Wukong's hand* "You try being half-mortal for twenty years!" *cue a multi-SWK fight. The Macaques watch on* Canon!Macaque, suspiciously: "What about you? How come you look so... content?" Au!Macaque: "Lets just say... I learned to forgive someone." Canon!Macaque: "Ugh. Don't tell me..." Au!Macaque: "I know, I know..."
Neither versions of the characters want to reveal information that could affect the others timelines/relationships too badly, but there's still slip ups...
Especially when the kids are causing havoc around the different Shadowpeach couples.
*Both shadowpeaches are sitting around on FFM. The different kids are play-fighting* Canon!SWK: "So wait, you guys got turned mortal because of some comet?" Au!SWK: "Yeah, its a long story, and we don't wanna give away too much that could like derail your universe." Canon!Macaque: "I think we can handle some interdimensional mayhem." Au!Macaque: "Ok, so it started-" *notices the kids playing a bit too roughly. Mom-voice activates* "QI XIAOTIAN AND LONG XIAOJIAO! You stop fighting like animals this instant!" Au!MK & Mei: "Sorry Bama!!" "Yeah! Sorry!" Canon! MK & Mei: "Uh, yeah sorry!" "Our bad!" Au!Macaque, voice back to normal: "I swear even if we were still immortal, they'd make us age..." Au!SWK: "True that." Canon SWK & Macaque: 0_0 X_0 Canon!Macaque: "Care explaining to me, what the fuck?" Au! SWK & Macaque: "Language!"
Canon Shadowpeach are def a little uncomfortable around, but envious of the Au married couple. Au Wukong and Macaque are very affectionate and have been reconciled for some time. Combined with an odd number of baby Mystic Monkeys around the alternate household, and the canon monkeys have a lot of questions.
Canon!Macaque, helping clean up dinner: "Soooo... when you meant forgive, you and your Wukong sorta...?" Au!Macaque, washing dishes: "Yeah. *Stuff* happened." Canon!Macaque: "In this context; *stuff* meaning your MK?" Au!Macaque: "Yep." Canon!Macaque: "Dang. One more question." Au!Macaque: "Go ahead." Canon!Macaque: "In making your MK, did you and Wukong ba-" Au!Macaque, face bright red: "Not where the kids can hear!! The twins have our ears!" Canon!Macaque, chuckling: "Ok then. I'll take that as a yes." Au!Macaque, still a little flustered: "It involved the comet. Thats all I'm gonna say." Canon!Macaque: "...what??"
Overall everyone is left very confused but with a fresh perspective on things.
Canon Pigsy is jealous that his au counterpart has more employees other than MK (au Wukong and Nezha). Both Tangs are just infodumping with eachother, while the Sandys are drinking tea.
The ones with the biggest shocks I imagine would be the canon kids tho, especially Nezha.
Canon!Nezha: "You look... rougher than me." Au!Nezha, unsurprised: "I imagine that you're still guarding the Map?" Canon!Nezha: "Ehh... not anymore. Wukong stole it." Au!Nezha: "Hmph. And they still let you stay in the Celestial Realm?" Canon!Nezha: "Yes? Why wouldn't they?" Au!Nezha, getting more quiet: "They didn't show me such generosity twenty years ago."
Both Nezhas end up chilling for a while. Canon Nezha is left uneasy after the encounter.

My quick ramblings about VNC manga chapter 62 part 1
(more under the cut)
.
Time flied again, and now ch 62 part 2 is coming or already out XD so I'm roughly writing some bits at least asdfg
.
.
I wrote some depressing prediction for this chapter, and I'm glad things didn't go that (physically violent) way, especially for Noe :) Vani stood up (as he should, cuz he is part of the cause) and "solved" the problem...by being verbally violent asdfg Anyway, I still feel something similar to that might happen at some point, though ^^;
I'm anxious about Johann for several reasons, but for now...I feel so sorry for him that he had to perform that much to "smoothly" solve(TM) the uncomfortable situation and protect his family ;_; I just...don't know what (proper words) to say, and I hate it :(
I'm happy to be quite right about Riche X) It's a huuuge shame that the anime completely cut out her cute interaction with Noe in the Catacombs :/ It wouldn't have taken too many minutes ://
.
a little or a lot negative from here, with some potentially triggering words
.
Apparently...some people think it's a bad / problematic writing decision that "white" Vani enlightens "black" Noe about "racism" towards Dham...as if the narrative / context was meant to mock Noe or such?? Also, as if similar situations (not just about racism) never happen in real life?? Honestly, they seem to be the ones who are somehow obsessed with the skin color tone of fictional characters the most lol
Like...did Vani have to leave Noe ignorant as he was, then? Was there any other "better" person (ex. "black" Dham) to explain "better" at the moment?? It doesn't even look like what Vani said was particularly wrong, either - especially compared to the situation when Luca "explained" to Vani/Noe what the Book of Vanitas does(TM), and then Vani got annoyed and tried to fix his (Luca's) wrong idea/info (not to mention Blue Moon clan is a discriminated minority as well).
For some imaginary example in regards to real life - it's said 99% of people are allosexual and only 1% are asexual in the world. It may happen that some asexual person never realized oneself being asexual and suffered from it for so long alone, and some allosexual person who happened to know a lot could notice what's going on and introduce "asexual" to the asexual person in a sincerely kind / helpful manner, "saving / freeing" the one, even.
Isn't it a good thing to learn about something "new" that is necessary "in any way (not offensive!!)", rather than staying behind and unintentionally repeating the same negative situation, if not causing worse things? Not everyone is lucky to get to know something or everything "naturally" or "normally" by a specific "proper" age.
Besides, Noe is understandably ignorant (like us readers / audiences) in canon from the beginning, with all his unfortunate, traumatic, and isolated childhood backstories and extremely limited interactions with other people... Noe's such huge, naive ignorance indirectly tells something about the "Teacher" Shapeless One as well! which is quite subtle from MJ-sensei XD
IDK now I'm curious if they called it a bad writing, too (and called MJ-sensei racist), when "black" Noe turned out to have been treated as a chained slave / property in the black market and "taken" by "white" Shapeless One...as if it's all meant to look "pure positive"? What about the scene where "white" Domi put a chain on "black" Noe's neck? Was it only great because it's "female dominant"?? lol :/ I also remember that not so long ago - "white" Misha enslaved "black" Noe and violated him in multiple, stressful ways (including the rapey blood-drinking)...and yet, the fandom mostly felt so sorry for the "white assaulter" Misha much more and got sooo disappointed / mad at the "black victim" Noe for "daring to" fiercely fight back and hurt his face, NOT "gently" pushing him away or (just forgetting about kidnapped Domi his important childhood friend and) "angelically" understanding him (the abuser) and "eagerly" protecting him as a "mere obedient black slave" of his "poor young white master" aka Stockholm syndrome lol =_=
.
.
This was not going to be this long and this petty, but it happened midway, sorry asdfg
Thank you for reading my subjective opinions so far!

𐑔𐑞 summary·˚
At the turn of the decade of 1970, Hannibal Lecter learns, to his dismay, that his age has finally caught up to him; his bones have grown weaker, his body has grown frail — the only thing remaining intact, so far, being his mind. Yet, slowly, he feels as though he is losing that, too, as if it’s slipping through his fingers, brain aching agonizingly with desires he can no longer indulge in safely anymore. He does not have much of a choice.
A monster pretending to be a human, his interest for darkness slips into the occult, and the scientist begins to grow almost an obsession with the concept of animal transformation — the mere possibility of lycanthropy being a real phenomenon leading him to question how blurry the line between humans and beasts truly is, a question in which he is determined to find an answer to. Perhaps to understand more about himself.
✦ . . ✦ . . ✦ . . ✦ . . ✦ . . ✦ . . ✦ .
Clarice Starling is not in the best place mentally. Being raised by a single father who despises her presence meant feeling like a stranger no matter where she went, a sensation that accompanied her during her entire life. The only form of connection she feels to her father is through their shared faith, for despite his disdain he had always brought her along with him to church. These days were the few where Clarice felt like she belonged to something.
But as she grew older in that supposedly hallowed environment and the expectations being placed on her shoulders grew heavier with time, looking at the mirror revealed a crooked image to her eyes. Skin prickling with uneasiness, she feels trapped. There is something inside her body that doesn’t want to be there — and it’s starting to claw its way out.

𐑔𐑞 info·˚
what's this?
a hannibal AU. mostly tv show-oriented but has a lot of tidbits from the novels/movies.
where can i read it?
it's not ready. but it will be posted to AO3.
when will it be ready?
when our lord apollo says so. (it's early development -- i do this for fun. im uninterested in setting any type of deadline for myself.)
how long will it be?
at the moment i estimate about 12 chapters. might double. 17 if you count prologue, epilogue and the 3 interlude chapters. aiming for roughly 8k words per chapter so roughly over 100k total.
what do you mean by 'clarice and will are the same character'?
i merged them into one single character (which is surprisingly not a difficult task given both of them are very vague characters) and hit him with the transgender beam afterward. very neat, actually. the werewolfism is somewhat a transgender allegory on its own. i'm a trans guy and this is my sort of love letter to my fellow brothers in the fandom.
further info/tags?

what do you mean 'unhappy ending'?
some secrets must remain untold for the time being.

everything you'd expect from hannibal + transphobia, religious topics, i believe some discussions of SA but nothing graphic on-page, gender dysphoria. will update this whenever needed.

6, 11, and 15 for Eins !!!
HIIII TY EWBIE!!!
6. When did your Tav learn their abilities/ skills?
Eins started the path of a fighter as a teenager, mostly for self defense (they were picked on a lot as a kid so Eins eventually decided to solve the problem with violence lol) but they've been a muscle for hire a few times in early adulthood to pay the bills. The magic they've learned has been a recent, post-tadpole thing so they're still getting the hang of it!! Their weave moment with Gale went terribly. They do not have the range
11. Did your Tav know or know of any of the other characters?
Hehehe yes... Being Baldurian and being roughly the same age as Wyll and Karlach meant that I think they've met but barely remember it. Eins vaguely remembers playing with Wyll as a kid because Wyll was nice to them (they went swimming together!!!), Karlach remembers seeing Eins at the Elfsong a few times, but it would take a lot to jog those memories. But once they DO all remember it's like wow we were all meant to meet again all these years later ;; proof of their never ending, unshakeable warrior's bond. I don't think they ever met Shadowheart- different circles and all that.
As for Astarion... I imagine that after centuries of kidnapping wandering adventurers and the local lower classes that the concept of someone (or multiple someones) whisking someone away into the night has become a bit of a ghost story, if not an open secret. Eins would have been the perfect target (poor, no family in the city, few friends, regular tavern-goer), which becomes a point of contention later on... but the two of them had never officially met until Eins almost got stabbed by him LOL
15. Do they have any sentimental items?
Eins LOVES music (big music enjoyer) so every time they find a music box they pocket it <333 they have a huge collection and find any excuse to take a short rest to listen to some tunes before heading back into battle... they're also sentimental about their Absolute amulet and amulet of Bhaal because it reminds them of times they lied about wanting to join someone's cause only to immediately backstab them TT_TT sentimental about schemes like a true grifter

Re: the timeline - I think everything pre-season 4 is supposed to be counted as "present day" (at the time of airing), so 3x18 should be (roughly) taking place in spring 2020 (sans pandemic) and then, yea things get a little weird after that with the beginning of S4 being set in Sept 2020, but airing in Jan 2021. But I think you can solidly consider everything pre-season 4 to take place similarly along the date it aired.
I remember there being some timeline confusion this season in 6x11 (March 2023) when Bobby tells the hospital staff that Buck is a 30 y/o male. Which, if each season is roughly set against the time it's airing, I think is hard to figure when Maddie says Buck is 28 in 3x01 (Sept 2019).
But I do think the writers screw up their own timelines sometimes - ex: I think Buck should have been 31 if not 32 in 6x11, I also don't think Eddie and Buck are meant to be the same age even though the glimpse of Shannon's headstone in S6 would indicate they are closer in age than what's been implied in several previous eps/seasons. So, TLDR; Idk if the writers/producers keep as close of a watch on little timeline details as we do to know when they're contradicting themselves lol.
Yeah, I think s4 screwed up their time line plans and they kinda said fuck it by season 6 because to give us a definitive date for Shannon's birthday and death really messes with things there, they put a definitive date on the s2 finale, they defined Eddie's age, when they haven't really defined it for anyone except for the occasional mention to Buck's age and the general Bobby is in his 50s along with Athena. And like, Buck being 28 before the tsunami, 29 when he finds out about Daniel and 30 by the lightning really compresses the timeline there, even if we assume he had just turned 28 in s3 and is about to turn 31 during the lightning (which doesn't make a lot of sense in regards of when Buck's birthday would be, not that I actually think they have a set birthday for any of the characters) that's still a lot things happening in the middle, because there's also Jee being born, so if they really pushed s3 back, like, how old is Jee supposed to be at the end of season 6? Because she's walking and toddler talking by the end of 6a, so she has to be close to 2 around there? With her being born end 2020/beginning 2021, it has to be 2023, but Maddie left a few months after she was born and she was way for 6 months, so Jee is pushing 1 by the time Boston happens, which kinda adds up considering the time jumps that are established around the shooting, but also with Buck being 29 while Maddie is pregnant, how can he still be 30 and Jee be almost 2? And there's also the way another whole baby is created and born during 6b. Because eve. considering the way the baby is born early, it has to be what? 8 months from cursed to the finale? The more I think about the more knots are created in my brain.
And even more so considering the injuries at the bridge and the way the season ends with Chim coming back and Eddie already there, when the recovery time for broken ribs is close to 2 months in real world but maybe not in 911 world because Lena broke her ribs during the tsunami but she's perfectly fine the next episode. So, like, what's the truth?
I feel like the whole time line I created is around Buck's age and I'm starting to believe Buck may need to be even younger than we assume, because if he's 26 in s1, 28 in s3 and he's still just 30 in s6, the math stops mathing somewhere along s5. Because, like, either things are happening real quick during 5b or the time line is just wrong. But I agree, I don't think they've been all that careful with the dates there, and they didn't think about the implications of giving us the Shannon related dates.

The Fairy Tail Fandom is so Powerful
I should first start by saying, Fairy Tail was my first anime other tahn the one episode of AoT that turned me away from anime and the few scenes I watched as a little girl of Pokemon, Sailor Moon, and Beyblade. It was the first show I sat down and watched and felt completely moved by with everything going on and it came at a very crucial point in my life. So there I was, roughly 13-14 years old (Almost 10 years for me now) sitting in computer class when I decided to take a "which anime are you quiz". This quiz was going to be my shot at getting into anime again. If I enjoyed it, anime was meant for me and if now, well that was that. So I took the quiz and my answer...was Fairy Tail. I can't tell you how I watched it for the first time, most likely through Netflix or even some other website but I did and I fell in love. It was everything I could ask for and more. The characters- I loved. The story- I loved. The artwork- I loved. It felt like a show made for me.
Now back then Little Deep End here had a small group of friends and shortly after the 3 other girls loved it too. We would always joke about the characters and, well, Gray being naked. It was something we bonded over and expanded out into other manga until eventually... I had to move. The last thing I had gotten from them was a picture of Gray with the words 'naked popsicle' written next to him. Something I kept until around my senior year of high school when I decided to let it go from its prison of my jewelry box.
But there I was, the new girl in school and well it wasn't the worst. I made friends and we bonded over things but I never met anyone with the same passion for this show in person as I once had with my previous friends. Well, that was until I explored Wattpad. Oh boy.
It was on here that I dove into the Fairy Tail community head on. I had already created ocs to join roleplays, with my proudest being Setsuko Rin- who at the time was just another ice mage. I read all the stories about Nalu, Gruvia, Gajevy (I wasn't too much of a Jerza fan but you get the point). It was like a safe haven. I couldn't discuss my passion for Fairy Tail with anyone else but these people but I didn't mind.
This all has a point I promise. Fairy Tail brings out something in its fans that not a lot of fandoms have and I think it has to do with the themes of Fairy Tail. Yes we may feel lonely in person but the guild was somewhere where the least welcomed were welcomed. Those that are outcasts with no friends and those that were the most popular could all come together and talk about how much Fairy Tail changed their lives.
I'm not going to lie and say that Fairy Tail hasn't had its moments in the show and that the community is perfect. However, I will say that you could mention Fairy Tail to any fan and they would welcome you with open arms. I feel like this show teaches a good level of respect and kindness that people aren't used to seeing within fandoms anymore. I can't even tell you how much it warmed my heart to see all the videos standing up for Fairy Tail within the last few years coming out to shut down the negativity it was getting and the people standing up and celebrating its return with 100 Year Quest.
It really goes to show you that a fandom like the Fairy Tail fandom is truly something else. Not to mention Todd Haberkorn being the best voice cast for Natsu there ever could be and same for Cherami Leigh as Lucy. Honestly all those actors both in the US and Japan (as well as the others worldwide) deserve so much praise for growing with us. Even if we shouldn't have been watching some of those scenes that we were at our age.
Anywayssss I just wanted to ramble a bit because this community does warm my heart. But I'll see you all later in the Deep End!!

TS4 Fnaf legacy challenge
I’m a big fan of the sims as well as FNAF and I do love legacy challenges so I decided to make one of my own, even though it is a bit strange to have a legacy when pretty much everyone is possessed by a dead child ( but let’s ignore that fact, let’s just pretend their living live inspired by the animatronics so it isn’t THAT weird)
Also it’s roughly based on the cannon, very roughly
It is Base game compatible though I mention somethings that can be changed by a pack, if my grammar isn't proper in this text I apologize English isn't my first language
I picked the characters I like, it’s not all of the fnaf characters( that would be impossible)
Basic rules:
1. All gens must die on the lot you first choose to live in( meaning they can move out, but need to move back before they die)
2. No cheats that would make it easier ( the only cheat I allow is if a gen calls for twins, cause that’s a bit difficult to achieve)
3. Aging can be at whatever length you like
4. After the first gen you don’t have to do the generations in order
5. Must complete all goals
Gen#1- The Puppet
We’re starting with the one that was the first to be killed ( at least in my head it makes sense for her to be the first)
The Puppet is a rather caring animatronic, always there for others, you never turn a friend down and make sure everyone around you is safe and sound
Traits: Music lover, family orientated, loyal ( or proper if you have Snowy Escape)
Aspiration: Friend of the world
Career: Freelance writer then quit and become a stay at home mom
You have to have 5 good friends that you call and text everyday
You have to marry the first single sim you find
You have to apologize and be friendly to sims even if their mean to you
You have at least 4 kids( if you want to hate yourself have 6)
Master 1 music skill and have the other two above five( and master singing if you have City living)
If you have seasons go all in on Halloween, if you don’t have seasons decorate house in a spooky way as much as you can
Gen#2- Freddy Fazbear
You grew up surrounded by people and love the attention, you love being by other people and they love you too, sometimes a bit too much. You’re funny and friendly personality makes everyone smile
Traits: Goofball, glutton, perfectionist(or self absorbed if you have GF)
Aspiration: Jokestar
Career: Entertainer( comedy branch)
Have at least 7 friends go to a club with them every weekend
Pizza, order it at least every other week
Have l.10 in comedy and charisma
Engage to a sim with at least one positive trait(outgoing etc…)
Have 2 affairs after you have your first child ( if you have a male sim then affair is meant to be at the same time) while with your partner (your partner can’t find out about it)
Have children with said affairs if your sim is a male they can’t interact with the kids, if your sim is a female they have to raise the kids but not have a good relationship (You love your firstborn only)
If you have get together make a club ‘band’
Gen#3- Chica the chicken
Your parent raised you to love food, you put food over anything else though you’ll eat anything you have your limits, you love animals and would never harm them
Traits: Loves outdoors, Vegetarian and slob( you can replace loves the outdoors with animal enthusiast if you have Cottage living)
Aspiration: Master Chef
Career: Culinary ( or open a restaurant if you have the pack)
Master cooking and gourmet cooking,(or baking if you have get to work)
Don’t clean unless a sim does it automatically
Have one child only, not by love by a random ‘hook-up’, don’t talk to the baby daddy ever
If you have any pack that has animals in it you must have at least one of each, if you don’t have a pack with animals then catch fish and put one in every room, including in front of the house
Decorate the house with animal themed items
Gen#4- Foxy the pirate
The previous gen was obsessed with food, you on the other hand love staying fit, healthy food and exercise, also brawling with the neighbors never hurt anyone

Trust
Tumblr media
Director Hal Hartley Stars Adrienne Shelly, Martin Donovan, Edie Falco, Merritt Nelson, John McKay UK/USA 1990 Language English 1hr 47mins Colour
Revisiting my favourite film of 1991
If you were roughly my age and aesthetic ideology in the 1980s, one of the most notorious scenes in the movies was Ally Sheedy getting a makeover from Molly Ringwald in The Breakfast Club. The general view was  (and the internet suggests still is) that not only was it no business of Ringwald’s character to de-gothify Sheedy, but also that Sheedy more conventional = less attractive.
More fondly remembered is the scene in The Big Sleep where Marlowe (Bogart) has an hour or so to kill during a stakeout and the manager of the bookshop he’s in (Dorothy Malone) indicates she’s more than willing to help him pass the time. He agrees, but then asks her if she’s OK taking off her glasses: ‘Little things like that make…’ She does, and loosens her hair, and he responds with a gratified, ‘Hello!’ (It’s far from the only movie in which a woman is perceived as becoming more tempting minus the specs, but it’s at least one of the best).
Tumblr media
Trust could be seen as containing something of a riposte to both of these scenarios. Maria  (Adrienne Shelly) starts the film with a perm, mall-girl make-up and bright clothes. It’s her choice to let her hair go straight and wear in a messy ponytail, ditch the make-up and stick with the plain shirt-dress she’s nicked out of a closet. It is, admittedly, Matthew (Martin Donovan) who asks why she doesn’t use the glasses she obviously needs. Because they make her look like a librarian. ‘I like librarians,’ he says, and she wears the glasses through most of the rest of the film.
Tumblr media
In the prevailing progressive ideology of the 2020s, devaluing the aesthetics of mall girls is just as bad as oppressing goths. But as the 1980s slowly gave way to the 1990s, the mostly self-driven makeunder Maria does in Trust seemed like a good thing. And, yes, within the vibe of the film and that of the people likely to be watching it, it was understood that Maria/Shelly looked better de-permed. And the aesthetics of Hal Hartley movies meant a lot to me in the early 1990s.
(Side note: I saw this film while I was at university, and knew a lot of women who had turned up in their first year with big curls – which had long been banished by their third years but embarrassingly lingered on the photoboards in the departments where they were studying.)
Trust is the second feature film Hartley made, and the first one I saw, having read about it in The Face magazine. My expectations were very high and fully fulfilled – I became a bit obsessed by it, or at least as far as I ever became obsessed by anything (I’m not an obsessive person).
I’ve written about Hartley’s debut The Unbelievable Truth here. Trust is in some ways very similar. Both are filmed on Hartley’s home patch of Lindenhurst, Long Island (if you’re tracking these things, it’s about 18 miles further out from Brooklyn that Valley Stream, where Steve Buscemi’s Trees Lounge takes place.) Both star Adrienne Shelly paired with a guy who is a bit older* and is somewhat notorious locally. In both films, Gary Sauer plays the doofus Shelly’s character was going out with before she wised up, and much of the rest of the supporting cast is the same.
Tumblr media
And yet, rewatching them after all this time, these films felt more different than I had remembered. Trust is (purposefully) less of a comedy, to some extent less stylised (although still very stylised) and maybe more… I both want to say and am reluctant to say: sincere? Heartfelt?
Maria and Matthew are both floundering when they meet: she’s being kicked out of school, she’s pregnant, she’s having trouble with her parents. Matthew keeps losing jobs because he’s got too many principles/hang-ups but also is violent, and he’s still living with his father (John McKay), who bullies him (which he then takes out on the random people he punches.) It’s not quite an instant connection, but a fairly quick one. Matthew’s room is littered with piles of hardback books, and Maria dives deep into a self-improvement-through-learning kick.
Tumblr media
Martin Donovan became a fixture of Hartley’s films – he’s imposing, he’s got good hair, a good voice, looks right stomping around in an overcoat, but there’s enough vulnerability there. But it’s Shelly as Maria who is the heart of this film – it’s her determination, ultimate fearlessness in difficult circumstances that makes this odd melodramatic story hold together. She’s so good in this movie.
McKay as Matthew’s dad and Merritt Nelson as Maria’s mom are well cast, and Edie Falco is a real treat as Maria’s recently divorced sister.
Tumblr media
If you like films with an austere, blue/grey look – and I very much do – this a kind of beautiful, perfectly composed picture. It’s easy to think of low budget films being inherently rough-and-ready, but Hartley’s films are – in look, in movement, in words – always precise.
Trust, the consensus seems to be, is Hartley’s best film. Have now revisited this, The Unbelievable Truth, Simple Men and Amateur, I’ll go along with that – I like them all a lot, but this one is everything clicks the most.
*Robert John Burke in The Unbelievable Truth was about six years older than Shelly, Donovan nine, although I think Mathew in Trust is meant to read as younger than Josh in TUT. Shelly plays a high schooler in both movies but was in her early/mid twenties at the time.
Hal Hartley’s films are available for rental streaming from halhartley.com

ask fic 4 & 5?
So both of these questions are meant to be about a specific fic. Since anon didn't specify which one I guess I'll choose Split, since it's my most popular one and the one taking up the most space in my brain.
4. What is a detail about [insert fic] that you are proud of?
Magical auras/signatures! When I wrote that scene with Zatanna doing the aura reading spell I was so insanely proud of it. I'm not sure if everyone caught on to why Marvel's aura was the way it was but it was because he had collected the magical signatures of each of his hosts, layering them on top of each other. So his original host's signature was closest to his body and Billy’s signature wrapped around all the others and thus was the most prominent. But, because of how I interpret Marvel’s existence, that also means that he has Teth Adam’s signature laced into his own which is why Zatanna had such a hard time finding Black Adam's magic on him.
5. What do you wish people would ask about [insert fic]? Answer it now!
So this is a question that applies to many of my fics: why do I write Billy as being transgender?
Now anyone who reads my fics knows I basically default to Billy being trans masculine. This is partly because I'm queer and like coming up with queer interpretations of characters I love. I fully admit that that's part of it.
But the bigger reason is that Billy as a character, and Captain Marvel as his alter ego, are tied to this idea of wish fulfillment. He transforms into an idealized older version of himself. Besides just being older and stronger he physically becomes an extremely masculine looking man. Captain Marvel is in a sense the person Billy has always wanted to be.
Compared to classic golden age Freddy and Mary, Billy’s transformation is much more extreme. They still look roughly the age they are. And besides adding some muscle they still have the same body shape and looks too. Their idealized versions of themselves are not that far removed from who they are already, but Billy's is. Even in modern comics where all the kids look like adults, Billy changes the most physically.
To me that reads as someone who, at least subconsciously, wishes they were physically much different than they are, which is a very trans thing. Also a lot of trans people feel the need to physically perform gender to a greater extent to "make up" for their transness or prove they are the gender they say they are. Which would explain Cap’s extremely masculine appearance. Many trans people, especially young trans kids, also have a hard time envisioning themselves as their desired gender. It isn't uncommon to imagine a hypothetical older self presenting the way they want to even if it is hard to imagine their present self doing so.
Basically the ideas behind why Cap looks the way he does lends itself very easily to a trans reading of Billy’s character. So many people wish they could say a magic word and transform into their ideal self, but it hits extra hard for trans people, trans kids.
Thank you so much for the asks!

Nobody knows how Firbolg age scales and it’s THROWIN’ ME OFF. I initially got confused because people kept calling Caduceus Clay “Mentally a teenager” which confused me. 30 is adulthood for Firbolg, so if he’s between 80-100 shouldn’t he be older mentally? I kept looking, and then I was seeing people say he’s mentally anywhere from 20-25. Young, but definitely not a teenager. So here’s my shitty math trying to work things out. Keep in mind I’m rounding a lot of numbers here for simplicity. This isn’t a college essay, it’s an DND Bisexual doing math on Tumblr. This isn’t supposed to be perfect; The idea is to help people understand the mental ages of Firbolg for the sake of aging their own OCs.
Tl;wr: Here’s a link to a google spread sheet of the ages.
Tumblr media
If you wanna see my thoughts (and disclaimers in the hopes CR fans aren’t gonna get mad at me), see below the cut!
In a lot of fantasy media I know, fantasy races tend to get through childhood faster than humans do. For example, let’s say a human is fully mature at 18 and live on average for 82 years. That means roughly 22% of a human life is spent as a child. The only confirmed numbers we have regarding Firbolg ages is that 30 is adulthood and they live on average for 500 years. That means roughly 6% of a Firbolg life is spent as a child. If we wanted things to be more proportional, 110 would be the adult age for a Firbolg. But that’s not where we are. Where we are, there’s a lot of gap we need to fill, so we have to slow things down mentally. Firbolg spend a lot less time being children, so they need to spend a lot more time being adults.
Here’s another age to consider, which is being elderly. 65 is considered elderly for a human. So a human will spend roughly 22% of their life being elderly. This is the same amount of time spent being a child. So I’m going to apply that same logic to Firbolg and say that they’d spend 6% of their life being elderly. This would make any Firbolg the ages of 470 and above elderly. One more easy anchor point to find is mid-life, 41 and 250.
So here’s our numbers so far laid out:
-18 = 30
-41 = 250
-65 = 470
Now, that’s an even 23 years up and down for a human and 220 up and down for a Firbolg. When doing my math the sides got a little out of count because I didn’t want to be working with decimals, but with a bit more dividing, subtracting, adding, and rounding we can roughly get the chart seen above. The process was basically a repeat process of subtracting, dividing, and adding. For example;  250 - 30 = 220. 220/2 = 110. 30 + 110 = 140. 250 + 110 = 360.
110/2 = 55. 30 + 55 = 85. 85 + 55 = 140. 140 + 55 = 195.
So on and so forth until I got to adding my 3/2 (rounding and adjusting to avoid decimals) on the human side.
So THAT is my comprehensive Firbolg age chart. It’s obviously not perfect, and I’m sure a much better mathematician could easily explain all the millions of ways I goofed it up, but I think it’s better than working from raw fractions due to how disproportionate early and late life are between races.
And before anyone gets upset: I am NOT trying to argue that people are wrong about Caduceus’ mental age. 1: This is a fantasy world. The math between mental age and lived years isn’t important, you can make it whatever you want. You’re playing pretend and you can pretend however you want. 2: Caduceus is a character from a STORY. The hypothetical numbers are not nearly as important as how he is shown in that story. Cad is meant to be a young man leaving his home and seeing the world for the first time, adjusting his worldview as he does. It’s about learning to grow up as a young adult and realizing what your parents told you, and what you’ve experienced in your niche part of the world, isn’t always true when applied to the big picture. Cad’s relative age matters with how his story is told, not technical numbers. The discussion of his age is just what made me question the age chart.
What I saw most often was the simple division of 250 = 42, 125 = 21. I just didn’t like the logic that 3 years for a human would suddenly equal 90 years for a Firbolg, only for the next 21 years to equal another 125. That’s not slowing the rate of of mental aging, that’s slamming a brick wall and then running around it. So the numbers I came up with just seem more evened out to me.
Anyways, I hope at least one person find this helpful!

I used to love Harry Potter. I grew up around the time the books were being released and I was roughly the same age as Harry in each book. It meant so fucking much to me.
And now a lot of that childhood memory is tainted by the knowledge that the creator of this character and story that shaped a lot of my adult life is a woman with at best questionable morals. She hurts people flippantly and her own characters would avoid her.
I wish I could deck myself out in Harry Potter merch. I want to hang tasteful Hogwarts themed art on my walls. I want to buy all that chintzy crap with the Hufflepuff logo on it.
I used to love Harry Potter. I still do, to be honest.
But all I’m allowed to have now is my memory,

i genuinely don’t know which character was the catalyst for this or if it was just a giant trainwreck of all of them happening at the same time, but most of the mess that is 3b’s writing can be attributed to the fact that nankidai couldn’t settle on a chapter villain. i’ve already voiced my complaints with the walking wasted development that was the dolls, and i’m sure that they contributed to this, but nankidai couldn’t find a solid tone or theme for this chapter and that’s because he was trying to do multiple things at once.
throughout the majority of the story, we’ve had roughly two villains/villain figures at the same time: the floormasters who are working outside the group, and shin, who’s been working inside of the group. part of the reason that 2-2 was so great is that it resolved a lot of the mysteries around who shin was and why he was acting the way that he did- it had been an ongoing conflict escalating since chapter 1, and when everything came together it was gorgeous and did wonders to humanize shin as a character. then, if you save kanna, he affirms that he was still a good person after all and that even if he is proving the survival statistics right, he’s going out to save the people he loves.
except there’s an ending where shin is still alive and now you have a character whose arc has been immaculately resolved who you still have to keep alive for another chapter. it’s ok, though, because shin is understandably furious at sara for killing kanna and his plan is to take out his revenge on her. but then you encounter a big problem, which is that you need to stretch out this villain arc (which has already been playing out across the entire game) for another chapter. this isn’t feasible; it’s gonna get repetitive at some point. but don’t worry, you’ve been building the game up to introduce the next floormaster, a character who’s supposedly so terrifying that the mere mention of him sends shin into a panic: midori.
at first, this seems like a good idea: bits and pieces of evidence from the last two chapters have been alluding to midori being a terrible person. however, as scary as the story seems to think it’s making him, midori has no real presence as the villain he’s written to be. by all means, he should have killed keiji- he outlined specific guidelines under which keiji would live or die, they failed to meet those guidelines, and keiji should have died. but instead of killing him, midori gives them the time to find the controls to shut the coffin off (which ends up taking ages for the participants even if you’re a fast player) and assigns no consequences to anything they do. he then spends most of the chapter standing in random places and occasionally being an annoyance before dying at the banquet. even then, by the rules midori logically should have won the banquet, but instead he conceded and allowed the participants to win and got himself killed. when the other floormasters in prior chapters have set out to kill someone, they’ve meant it. as underhanded as it was, the participants in chapter 1 were given a chance to save everyone in the preliminary vote. but they didn’t find the sign, so mishima died. ranger even went out of his way to kill alice despite alice technically doing nothing wrong. the floormasters have not been moderate with their viciousness, and yet midori, the man who’s supposedly been killing and torturing people for fun since he was a child, is lenient with his killings. midori has almost no narrative presence as a villain despite how much he’s been set up to be one.
this is where ranmaru comes in, because he’s the only actual threat to the group. the only one to kill a human member of the group is another fucking group member. and it wasn’t shin, whose character arc had been developing for three chapters, it was a kid who had started out completely fine and snapped after being reminded he wasn’t human and having sara whisper in his ear. ranmaru’s actions were definitely rushed and felt cheap, but they are so much worse when compared to midori and shin, who had more motives and capabilities than ranmaru and still ended up accomplishing less than him.
and then there’s shin, who was barely a presence in this chapter. arguably it’s because he fears midori, but this argument seems weak when the story fails to depict midori as something to be feared. midori is a weird enigma at most but all of his atrocities are too cartoonish to be taken seriously. shin promises that his first goal is to take out midori and then move on to sara, but midori is never actually enough of a threat for shin to confront him. shin never gets a big moment where he stands up to the man who has made his life hell for years, he just sits behind the girl who killed his sister as she deals the death blow that they barely earned.
this was a long rant but i think that the failures of 3b’s villains are inherently intertwined- they were all trying to compensate for each other and ended up undermining each other in the process and generally we ended up with a messy, nonsensical story that lacked impact

A Brief And Concise Summary Of Is Wrong With The ACOTAR Series
I think we can agree that a lot of ACOTAR is pretty iffy. Consider this a very brief refresher.
What's Wrong With Feyre/Rhysand (juxtaposed against Feyre/Tamlin)
Rhysand drugs and sexually assaults her in Book 1
This is "for her own good". Because he "has no choice". Despite the fact that, from what we know of the plot, Amarantha thinks that Clare Beddor was the one Rhysand was diddling, and is only interested in Feyre because Rhysand, "her" man male, has taken an interest in her.
If we extrapolate from this we can figure that Rhysand is the one directly putting her into danger.
Now, let's be clear: drugging someone is bad. Sexually assaulting someone is bad. One could argue there were extenuating circumstances. But if, in such a situation, what your mind goes to is "I know, I should assault this person... for their safety" I have questions about your moral qualities. There were a million things he could have done. He could have done whatever he did to Clare - that is, remove her ability to feel any pain - easily. He could have helped her escape. Under The Mountain, he - while still there unwillingly - has a lot of power, as Amarantha's side piece. Maybe this would have resulted in him being punished- however, he is hundreds of years old and a badass motherfucker, and she is a nineteen year old human girl.
Now, onto Tamlin. Obviously not a lot of people really ship F/T anymore after ACOMAF, because compared to F/R, it's boring. I read another person's post about it, which was very enlightening: they said that Feyre's personality is essentially a mirror. When she is with Rhysand, she's snarky and malicious- because she is "bouncing off" his energy. When she's with Mor she's super feminist and "in awe of her strength". On the other hand, Tamlin is kind of an empty character. He's a pretty boy with anger issues, which should be more interesting than it is. SJM manages to make him bland. Because Feyre has nothing to bounce off of, (a lot of this is from the person's post), she and Tamlin together is mainly just him introducing her to his world.
What Tamlin Does: prevents a skinny twenty year old from going on dangerous missions with him and combat-trained soldiers, accidentally blows up a room with her in it, and, at the end, prevents her from leaving the house.
This is not a Tamlin apologist post. Obviously it was really fucking gross of him to do that, and their relationship was toxic. However, a lot of his abuse stems from their inability to communicate, as well as own negligence. He does not knowingly and purposefully sexually assault her or rape her mind. And tbh, leaving a girl without combat training at home while he goes on missions with a bunch of muscled sentries is... kind of reasonable?
Again: not a Tamlin apologist post. It was abuse. However, if Rhysand is "allowed" to sexually assault, mind-rape, and drug Feyre "for her own safety", why is Tamlin demonized for preventing her from leaving his mansion "for her own safety"?
Another pertinent point: Rhys is never punished for sexually assaulting her. It is brushed off as part of his "mask" or that his hand was forced. Jesus Christ my dudes, his hand was not forced under her skirt. If he has to maintain his gross rapist abuser tyrant oppressor mask... why? Who did that benefit beside him? None of his actions remotely helped Prythian. They were done solely for his buddies - five people safe in a rich hidden city - and no one else, which is explicitly stated.
Finally, the power dynamic is fucked up. Feyre is less than twenty five years old. Rhysand is 500. There is a tendency in fantasy romance to romanticize a centuries year old man with a young girl, because the man does not show symptoms of age, and so it is easily ignorable. However, can we just briefly acknowledge how fucked up it is? Rhys is over five times older than Donald Trump, Harvey Weinstein, Jeffrey Epstein, and other known predators/abusers. She is twenty. That is really fucking gross. She is in a vulnerable position and he takes rampant advantage of that.
If he had wrinkles, liver problems, and erectile dysfunction, more people would acknowledge it.
Let's be clear: I'm not saying writing a book with an uneven power dynamic is automatically bad. For example, in The Locked Tomb series, which is in my opinion THE BEST FANTASY SERIES THAT HAS GRACED THIS EARTH (lol i'm starting fires), one main character Harrowhark Nonagesimus is in a position of power over Gideon Nav, the other main character. However, this is not glossed over or romanticized. Gideon resents Harrow for this- there is a relationship of mutual antagonism, fraught with unwilling familiarity and intimacy from growing up together. They are roughly the same age. While there is a certain power dynamic (in that world, there is a dynamic of necromancer and cavalier, i.e. sorcerer and sword) the "empowered" character (Harrow) emphatically respects her and does not abuse this power, although both would of course deny this, and she does make a show of threatening and being aloof. In short, while Gideon obeys her, Gideon also has power over Harrow, and the idea of what is essentially slavery is not romanticized.
Feyre Doesn't Face Any Consequences For Her Own Actions
Let me present a radical notion: a guy preventing you from leaving his house does not justify completely fucking ruining his country and harming the people inside it.
In other words: Tamlin does not deserve what she did to him.
I know that sounds iffy. We're conditioned to think that if someone is an abuser, then they are the scum of the earth, they deserve to die, torturing/murdering/doing anything to them is completely A-OK. However, here's another radical notion: someone harming you does not justify you doing worse.
Obviously, the effects of psychological abuse can cause you to hurt other people (see: Nesta), but Feyre deliberately and maliciously (oh, God, that insufferable POV of her in Spring Court; she reads like a cartoonish Disney villain) dismantles his country. She uses sexual manipulation (Lucien), torture (causing the sentry to be whipped), and mind-rape (who didn't she do this to? lol).
A summary of the entire first half of ACOWAR: "It smelled like roses. I hated roses. For this capital offense against my olfactory system, Tamlin and the entire Spring Court deserved to burn in hell. I knew exactly what I was doing. I smiled at him sweetly: no longer a doe, but a wolf. He didn't see my fangs.............." *aesthetic noises*
Man. I'm starting to think SJM had a horrible experience at a Bath & Body Works and took it out on the rest of us. Don't do it, Sarah!! I know Pink Chiffon and Triple Berry Martini are way too strong, but don't take it out on an innocent population!!
She steals from Summer Court (there are, yk, other solutions to theft. Like maybe asking politely) and ruins Spring Court. Her boyfriend - yeesh sorry, MATE - does nothing while a dozen Winter Court children are murdered.
Now: moral ambiguity is not automatically bad. Again using The Locked Tomb as an example, in the second book (spoiler alert), Harrowhark has a sort of moral ambiguity. She was raised from the beginning to worship the King Undying as God, and so she obeys him without question. Because of this, she commits a lot of crimes in His name: she "flips" - i.e. kills - the life force of planets, and she plots murder (albeit the murder of someone who tried to kill her first). There is no attempt to justify this. There is also no attempt to paint her as a virtuous and yet also badass Madonna figure. She is desperate, plagued with the "wreck of herself", and the book clearly displays her moral pitfalls. While her POV is of course colored by her mindset, it also is limited by her lack of information, and we as readers can acknowledge that.
BACK TO ACOTAR: Feyre is seen by everyone as gorgeous, formidable, and essentially perfect. Rhys sees her as flawless, "made for him", wonderful, beautiful, blah blah blah. (THEY ARE SO BAD FOR EACH OTHER; THEY EXCUSE AND GLORIFY EACH OTHER'S CRIMES, IT'S SO BAD, GUYYYS). Tamlin is insanely batshit in love with her, or whatever. To the Night Court she's the High Lady. In this way she personifies the Mary Sue character. (Excerpt from the TV Tropes page on Mary Sues: "She's exotically beautiful, often having an unusual hair or eye color, and has a similarly cool and exotic name. She's exceptionally talented in an implausibly wide variety of areas, and may possess skills that are rare or nonexistent in the canon setting. She also lacks any realistic, or at least story-relevant, character flaws — either that or her "flaws" are obviously meant to be endearing. She has an unusual and dramatic Back Story. The canon protagonists are all overwhelmed with admiration for her beauty, wit, courage and other virtues, and are quick to adopt her as one of their True Companions, even characters who are usually antisocial and untrusting; if any character doesn't love her, that character gets an extremely unsympathetic portrayal." Sound familiar?)
There is the Ourobous scene. And yet, paradoxically, while presented as an acknowledgment of her flaws, it is in fact a rejection of them. She sees her own brutality... and instead of recognizing that she has these deep, deep moral flaws and realizing that she needs to grow and be better, she in fact "accepts" them.
Guys: Self love means: "I'm important to me, so I'm going to get a massage today after work", or "heck, why not splurge on some expensive lotion, you only live once" or "you know what? I had a tough day today. I'm going to get that strawberry cupcake". SELF LOVE DOES NOT MEAN "oh, I accept all the war crimes I have done, I love myself". LOVING YOURSELF DOES NOT MEAN ABSOLVING YOURSELF OF ALL WRONGDOING.
It's this refusal to acknowledge wrongdoing that is so grating about ACOTAR. It's so goddamn one-sided. And you can tell that after Book 1, SJM decided to completely change the trajectory simply because of how jarring Book 2 reads compared to the first one.
Also: Feyre is a very, very young girl (compared to the other ruling fey) who did not know how to read for the majority of her life. She has no experience whatsoever in politics. Her being High Lady is not a win for feminism.
Rhysand: He Sucks
First, he is 500 years old. He should be written as such, not as some 20 year old virile frat boy feminist. Fantasy is all the more compelling for its elements of realism, which is a concept that SJM does not appear to grasp.
Second of all, his morals are absurd. He is written as the Second Coming of Christ, as someone who can do no wrong, ever, and his flaws only serve to make Feyre love him more. Anything shitty he does is written as part of his "mask" and she can See Beneath It and knows that it "hurts" him to maintain this "mask".
Fellas, WHY DOES HE HAVE TO MAINTAIN THIS MASK???? There is no reason for it. If A) he does not give a shit about Court of Nightmares (we'll get back to that), only about Velaris, and B) Velaris is hidden/protected from the world, what is he pretending for?
It would not hurt him politically to be seen as someone who cares about his country.
"Pretending" to be "Amarantha's whore" does not in any way shape or form benefit the macro-world that is Prythian. In Amarantha's name, he commits atrocities. He commits war crimes; he systemically oppresses entire societies. It doesn't even really benefit Velaris, because Velaris is already hidden.
Let me put this in a real-world perspective. This would be like if Donald Trump was suddenly like: "I know I was a shitty president but IT WAS ALL PART OF MY MASK, WHICH WAS TO PROTECT THIS MICROCOSM OF PRIVILEGED PEOPLE THAT I CARE ABOUT". Like: okay? Sorry, or whatever, but I don't actually give a shit. What about the parents of the children who died? What about Clare Beddor? What about the people who were held in slavery, murdered, tortured?
Rhysand: omg it sucks that my cousin Mor was oppressed by this toxic misogynistic culture from the Court of Nightmares.
Also Rhysand: lol whatever, who gives a shit about Court of Nightmares. They all suck. They meanie. Lol what did you say? That there might be other girls just like Mor who are oppressed by this system? Lol whatever. I can't do anything, I gotta maintain my Mask. I gotta sit on this throne and show the entire Court that not respecting women is completely okay.
In summary: by parading Feyre around as his "whore" (!!) he demonstrates by example that it is completely okay for the Court of Nightmares to abuse their women.
A good ruler cares about all his people. Rhysand cares about a tiny tiny fraction of his people: those who were fortunate enough to be born into Velaris.
God, I'm exhausted. Onto Nesta:
The only character who successfully breaks the Mary Sue effect Feyre exerts on her people is Nesta. Her POV for the first half is a joy to read.
Obviously it sucks that Nesta was a huge bitch to Feyre for the beginning of her childhood. However, it was wrong for Rhysand to threaten her- he is a man male with a huge insane amount of power, and it is not okay for him to threaten to bring the brunt of it down on a young girl because she was a bitch to his girlfriend.
I've seen a lot of discourse on the morality of F/R sending her out of Velaris. Here is my two cents:
It was okay for them to cut her off of their money. If they don't want to enable her self-harm, that is their choice. Again, it's their money, even if it wasn't fairly earned (Rhysand born into an enormous fortune).
It was not okay for them to banish her from Velaris with the implication that she was an embarrassment. Let me explain.
If Rhysand and Feyre are talking to her as sister/brother-in-law, then that is that. They have the complete right to express disapproval and try to help. However, they should not be using their royal privilege against her.
If they are talking to her as ruler to subject, then they have the power to banish her from the city. However, a ruler would not give a shit about a random subject getting drunk and having sex. So, they should not be talking her about her problems as a ruler to subject.
I've heard it compared to her being sent to rehab. However, rehab is a system designed to help people with certain problems. It has specialized medical centers and involves therapy. Nesta gets her life threatened multiple times. It is not rehab.
In summary: why did SJM inflict this upon us. Throne of Glass was actually good! GAHHH! After the first few books she completely whipped around and introduced the idea of males and mates and fey and that C is actually A and the quality took a huge nosedive. Sigh.
Final horrible but unmistakable truth: The entire ACOTAR series reads like a bad A/B/O fic. I hate to say it but it's true. We're lucky there were no heat cycles. OH WAIT
