#and he is a survivalist even if that means he has to eat people sometimes

It's so funny to think how we both have the incredible specific scenario of 'my sole survivor was stuck somewhere while serving in the military and had to eat his fellow soldiers and now he's a Cannibal'. Its like that Doofinshmirtz meme. Its weird that this happened twice. Here I was thinking I had galaxy brained when I did this a month ago and bam!! You did it too!!
8 END is both a blessing and in the right wrong circumstances, a curse
#i write my characters around the perk chart jahajshslhshsls#so gus has always been perceptive and durable and agile (all special stats relating to sniping w/ vats hits and vats accuracy and AP usage)#so those perks informed his character#he sometimes goes behind backs. he has a quick eye and picks up on things easily#he has a chem tolerance. he has an iron stomach#and he is a survivalist even if that means he has to eat people sometimes#and Isadora is a builder. my fave weirdo, Yoruga. I thought of making a brand new post, but then figured might as well put the update in this same post and reblog it instead.
Bio below:
Name: Yoruga Avara
Nicknames: Yoru-chan/Yoru (Hayden(former Cecil, Yuuji) Mothy (Youko) Koi (Roman, it means moth in Italian as he's from Italy)
Age: He died at 17, but is now 25, so he has existed in his new form for 8 years
Height: 164 cm
Family: He stayed with the keepers of his birth tree for a while (The Avara family), then moved to the Capital once he was emotionally and mentally stable enough to go and start his new life properly. He still uses his foster family surname as his official one, although he could've chosen himself a new one.
Friends: Hayden(Former Cecil) (his bestie), Yuuji (his boss) Avane (His boss' niece) Roman (his coworker) Claude (hayden/Cecil's twin brother) Caelan (Claude's boyfriend/son of Yuuji's LI) Iris (A sorceress who was also being fostered by the Avara family, is now a teacher in his university, though doesn't teach his classes)
Love interest: None (he’s Aro-ace)
Occupation: medical student (specializing in nutrition, which in this world covers more than just typical food things, given there are plenty of beings who do not eat "normal" food)/cafeteria seasonal worker
Personality:
Yoruga comes off like a goofy weirdo who everyone accepts just Does Things, and nobody questions it. Be it painting smileyfaces on random things and calling them “friends” or vibrating so rapidly he breaks whatever he’s sitting on. He's often compared to a cat with his mannerism and good stealth.
Beneath this childlike exterior however, exists a serious, cautious and always prepared fighting spirit, who also enjoys taunting his opponents and make them think they have the upper hand on him, before getting the rug pulled from under them so to speak. This comes from his rough childhood back as a human, resulting in somewhat survivalist tendencies.
He’s very protective over his best friend Cecil/Hayden and basically anyone he's close with, to the point when he switches to his more serious self, he can even come off scary.
Abilities:
His wings are fire- and stab-attack proof, and he can poof into hundreds of tiny black moths and reform himself back. Yoruga can also use these butterflies to blanket large areas into complete darkness
He has a supersonic scream that can shatter glass and rupture eardrums. Can even cause a heart-attack on weaker people
He’s very good at blending into shadows, and he can use his little butterflies to spy on people. Generally he's super stealthy, to the point he has to warn his coworker Roman beforehand about his presence, or the former mobster might accidentally attack him when startled.
Yoruga, like other moth spirits, has a pocket dimension to store things in. His is particularly big even among his kin, allowing him to store objects bigger than himself, and even engulf an area into his pocket dimension. He uses this both for transporting things (sometimes even people)
Yoruga's speed at utilizing his pocket is also unusually fast; normally when a moth spirit summons something from there, it forms out of glowing butterflies matching the spirit's colors. In Yoruga's case, it looks like he just pulls things out from inside his robes. (without them, it looks like he just pulls them from his body somehow)
WEAKNESSES:
Due to the way he died, Yoruga has always had some struggles around eating and food, and his first years in this new life, he suffered from bulimia due to his fear of suddenly starving again. Even now he can stress over having enough to eat and is sometimes at risk of relapsing to his old habits. He roomies with his best friend Cecil/Hayden for this reason, as he is a medical student so he can help/knows where to get help if things get worse.
He still struggles at times with living a life where he doesn't need to "survive" which does lead to occasional awkwardness in social situations, such as him being needlessly aggressive about his food/his loved one's meals, or perceiving things as a threat when they aren't.
FUN FACTS:
His foster family surname he still uses for official documents and such - Avara - is Finnish and means "open/spacious"
Yoruga likes chin scratches and might randomly ask some from people, typically his best friend Cecil/Hayden, Roman, or Youko's adoptive parents Shura and Shika. (Roman was weirded out at first, but is now used to his weird cat-like behavior)
His friendliness act is a survival tactic, where he feels the need to act as nice and harmless as possible to protect himself. It is a habit he still hasn't learned away from.
Generally, Yoruga's behavior changes between this taught, silly, almost catlike persona, to his more human/mature self. To the point even his voice and way of speaking changes depending on which side of himself he leans on.
He's kind of yandere-ish, seeming friendly but being very stabby stab if he has to.
Yoruga makes really excellent freakshakes (over-the-top milkshakes) though he's banned from making one for Youko before dinner, as the kid will get a massive sugar rush
Some people can see through his goofy facade, but react to it somewhat differently; his boss Yuuji, his boss' LI Jurou and Yuuji's niece find it amusing, whereas people like Yuuji's brother Kenzo find it interesting and have marked him as a person of interest, much to Yuuji's dismay
Yoruga sometimes jokes that the main reason his name references moths is because they ate his corpse. His sense of humor can be really dark at times in general.
He and Cecil often get up to Shenanigans in their free time, especially during Halloween they might go to the human world to spook people, as both are good at it.
His style is basically "Weird funky details mixed with cutesy childlike vibes"
He has worked in Yuuji's cafe for the last 2 summers as well as some seasonal work/covered shifts for Roman if able

AU(s) where all the mod videos Tommy does, along with some other videos, are all alternate universes, and their residents end up in the SMP. Chaos ensues.
Voice Mod AU:
Universe where nobody talks aloud. They telepathically communicate, and the closer you are, the clearer and louder you are, unless you have the control the lower your mental voice.
Why?
Post-apocalyptic world(because Tommy said welcome to the new world at the start, and I too that and ran with it). They’re the new versions of humans, created after life returned on the planett, and the telepathy is a survival method, because outward noise draws predators, inner noise does not.
This also means they possibly have some other features similar to that. Like maybe Quackity’s duck wings being from some newly evolved duck species in the new world, Wilbur being a bit abnormally tall, or similar. I’m not sure.
Oh hey, no, Wilbur can be like a tree hybrid or something, cause Treebur.
Basically, evolution and telepathy.
Wilbur has a horse named Bert, he is speedy, and spends just as much time dragging his owner out of trouble than he does riding him into it.
The gang is basically just traveling the lands, exploring what’s about.
There are fish-horses, ender-horses, spider-horses, silverfish ponies, and horses that are somewhat like a breed between llamas and sheep in the world.
There are a lot of new horse breeds.
The Quackity of this universe wears clothes a lot like Manhunt Dream’s, hoodie-wise, but it’s all bright blue, and his mask has the :] face on it.
Size Mod AU:
Universe where people can shift and change sizes, though only to certain ones.
For example, Wilbur’s stuck small. He can shift to the size of a small dog, height wise, or that of a flower, but he can’t get big. Quackity can go smaller than Wilbur, or literally bigger than the Enderdragon. Both Tommy can be normal sized, or big, and Phil’s can be about the size of a tree, or become the size of a small mountain.
They all live in a nice house in the plains and spend their time terrorizing the locals.
Wilbur has a little house within the house, and he uses his size to cause havoc more often than not. Quackity is equally guilty of this.
Sometimes when the kids are being particularly bad, Phil puts the smaller ones in a compost bin and holds Tommy off the ground until he starts behaving.
Quackity’s a follower of the Blood God. Not to Techno’s length, but he goes and kills rabbits for him, and dedicates the chaos his giant form causes to the guy. In return, the four always have a flourishing harvest, and Quackity’s absolutely mean in battle.
Wilbur sleeps in one of Tommy’s old shoes that he stole and made into a bed.
Honestly, Wilbur’s kind of like the house mouse. He steals stuff and vibes in his little home in the walls. The cats that occasionally slip in try to eat him a lot too.
Wilbur and Quackity are bird hybrids, Tommy’s a zombie hybrid(cause he’s fighting a zombie and saying ‘I burn’ at that little bit), and Phil’s an iron golem hybrid.
Quackity and WIlbur have little bird-houses set up around the area for them to dart into and hide if anything comes after them.
They all met when tiny Q and Wilbur tried to rob Tommy and Phil. They succeeded with Tommy, but Phil was less than impressed at the attempt. Somehow it resulted in them all sharing a house.
Dragon Mod AU:
Universe set in more medieval-themed world. Phil, Quackity, and Tommy are dragon hunters. Wilbur’s a mischievous dragon sorcerer who enjoys shapeshifting into a dragon to mess with people. The hunters were originally sent after him, but spent more time frantically running for their lives while he laughed at them.
Wilbur’s actually good friends with the actual Enderdragon, who he calls Keithette. It was with her blessing that he decided to pick on the hunters.
He just spends all of his time messing with them. That’s all he does. He messes with them. It’s originally more malicious, which means they had a ridiculous amount of deaths, but they eventually all grew fond of each other, so now it’s more playful.
He helps them find treasure and scares off rivals.
Tommy’s a trained medic.
Quackity and Wilbur are...something? It’s a Skephalo situation. They could just be very affectionate friends, or they could be dating, or they could be messing with everyone. Nobody knows, and everytime they think they’ve figured it out, the two seem to magically know and do something to throw them off.
They’ve confused many, many people with their antics.
(They’re probably messing with people though, because they definitely know what they’re doing)
When the actual Enderdragon and her egg mysteriously went missing, Wilbur rounded up his friends and asked for their help in finding her-so now the group is on a quest to find her and return her to the End.
Natural Disaster Mod AU:
Universe where world ending natural disasters just keep happening. It killed off a lot of people, but honestly, at this point, it’s been going on for years, and those that remain are pretty used to it.
Tubbo and Wilbur are followers of the Mule God, and were brought together by him. Jack and Tommy are two good friends who came together to survive. And Phil’s a top-tier survivalist who keeps an eye on the four, mostly because he’d feel bad if they died too often while they live in the area.
Though they’re all three different groups, they stick together and help each other out.
Tommy and Tubbo were childhood friends before the disasters separated them. A young Jack found Tommy and took him in, and Tubbo was saved and blessed by the Mule God. They’re still friends, but have somewhat grown apart with their differing lifestyles.
Tommy’s a penguin hybrid.
Tubbo and Wilbur have been known to try and scam people passing by, and they have tried this with everyone in the area too-the difference is the ones who stick around know better than to buy it.
Whenever Tommy wants to hang out, he declares he’s rescuing Tubbo, and steals him from whatever he’s doing. Wilbur has long since accepted that occasionally Tubbo is going to be stolen, and doesn’t even blink anymore.
Tommy wears green, and Tubbo wears red.
Storm riding is a favored sport of Tubbo’s, where you grab a hang glider and get swept up into the storm. Jack hates it, but often gets dragged along anyway.
Morph Mod AU:
Universe where shapeshifters are more common, and Tommy, Charlie, Phil, Schlatt, and Wilbur are all a clan of them.
They co-exist with humans, and actually protect the local villages they live close too.
They also spend a lot of time messing with people outside said villages, but that’s unimportant.
Charlie and Wilbur prefer to be aquatic creatures. while Phil transforms into whatever works better for the environment he’s in. Schlatt just does whatever, and Tommy usually sticks to human form, only shifting when he’s bored or he needs too.
Wilbur tried to transform into a horse once, while in fish form. He’s not sure what exactly happened, but long story short, he’s the reason for the myth of the hippocampus.
They have a house in the village, one out, and then general little areas meant for them in animal form.
Because shapeshifters are strongly group-oriented, they prefer to shift in pairs or groups. Charlie and Wilbur typically pair up, as do Schlatt and Tommy. Philza doesn’t really have that instinct as strongly, so he just stays close to them instead.
Laser Eye Mod AU:
Universe set in a futuristic setting, where, due to an ancient void deity becoming malicious, Tommy, Phil, Charlie, and Wilbur are selected to become plasma wielding cyber warriors(futuristic magical girls, basically) to fight back against such threats.
These four’s cybernetics were embued with magic to produce specific plasma that would be effective against threats.
Phil wields divine plasma, and it’s fired out from his cybernetic wings, which were implanted as a military experiment. He can even detach a feather to act as a plasma covered sword.
Tommy wields phoenix plasma, and it’s fired out of his cybernetic eyes, which were transplanted into him when he was in an accident young, rendering him blind. They allow him to see by scanning out the outlines of objects and areas, and feeding the image into his brain.
Wilbur wields soulfire plasma, which is fired from his prosthetic legs, which have a kind of mermaid-motif, with fins and all, and make him a fast swimmer.
And Charlie wields greekfire plasma, fired from his cybernetic arm-it can also fire slime-like globs that rapidly grow and incase the area they’re attached too.
Wilbur was actually the first selected for the program, but he went missing shortly after, stolen and controlled by the void deity, who turned him into quite the obstacle for the others.
They eventually rescued him from it’s control, and after he recovered, he joined the fight.
Endermen and endermen hybrids are common minions of the void deity-it seems to have End-based origins, being able to control them.
Lava Ravine Mod AU:
Universe where Phil, Charlie, Wilbur, and Tommy are all strangers, who get a mysterious invite to an unknown world. It seems like a lovely vacation at first, strangers aside, but things turn deadly when a seemingly normal ravine in the ground begins to grow, the lava inside it begins to rise, and our heroes find themselves unable to leave the world.
They soon realized they may have been selected for their ability to survive, but to do that, they’re going to have to all work together.
Tommyinnit originates from the world of RLcraft, Phil grew up in Hardcore Mode, Charlie is a fallen god from a world of chaos, and Wilbur has lived through a world like this before.
They build a giant glass and stone dome, and live within there, using their various skills to survive.
Wilbur pretty much knows how this world works to a T, and is able to predict when the lava will raise and how quickly. He knows how to survive and work around the heat.
Tommy and Phil have a variety of skills from their lives before, not limited to first aid and cooking.
And Charlie’s got a bit of godly power he can put to good use here, as well as many out-of-the-box ideas for what to do.
Charlie brought a card-game from his old world, and teaches Wilbur how to play. It becomes a favorite past time of theirs.
Jump Mod AU:
Universe where enhanced individuals have recently begun to exist. Tommy, Wilbur, and Quackity are some of many who choose to use their new abilities for their own gain, becoming thieves. They were taken under the wing of master thief Philza, who was in the game long before he gained his new powers.
Or, well, they were thieves. A job gone wrong resulted in them being caught by authorities, and forced into a deal. Once thieves for their own gain, now they’re agents for the government, stealing back what was stolen from their country.
All of them are generally more physically enhanced, with agility, endurance, and all that jazz. But they also have other abilities.
Tommy’s faster than anyone. Wilbur can refract light, essentially becoming invisible. Phil can communicate with birds. And Quackity can change the density of anything he touches, himself excluded.
Philza was actually caught because he stayed behind for his new partners. He had realized someone was looking into them, and didn’t want the younger ones going into that alone.
TNT Mod AU:
Universe where everyone is a mob hybrid, and they live divided in tribes. Tommy, Phil, Charlie, and Wilbur are a tribe/keg of creeper hybrids, who protect their territory, and cause havoc for any trespassers who happens upon them.
No one dares settle there, because these four are just as likely to swear a village’s protection as they are to laugh as they set it ablaze. It’s purely up to how they feel at the moment, finicky keg that they are.
However, there is a reason some do venture here.
Every tribe/(name for grouping of specific mob) guards a certain treasure. For the creeper boys, it’s an orchard of apple trees that grow, not only red apples, but gold ones too-and rarely, a god apple.
If you do happen to stumble upon their territory unintentionally, your best bet is to appeal to Wilbur, as he does have a soft spot for people-of course, you’ll need to make sure none of the others think you’re taking advantage of that soft spot, lest they slowly and painfully kill you for even considering it.
Creepers are very friendly to them, and see them as one of their own. Other mobs, not so much.
The orchard is surrounded by a dense forest, that’s abruptly lets up to a clearing that rings around it. This is where the keg lives, in high tree houses all connected to one another.
Their forest is their pride and joy, and it’s filled with many exotic trees and plants from around the world. Bringing them an addition for it is a sure way to assure your survival, and even gain an alliance, if it’s a really good addition.
Likewise, messing it up even slightly will immediately get you murdered.
Black Hole Mod AU:
Universe where the sun exploded and became a black hole that’s slowly consuming the world. Though many perished, some survived, with the advanced technology in the future.
Wilbur, Charlie, Phil, and Tommy are some of those survivors.
Charlie is a scientist, studying the black hole to see if there’s anyway to perhaps stop it, or survive within it once it consumes them.
Phil’s a former mercenary who came to the lab with Tommy, after finding the young student stumbling about the remains of a city.
Wilbur’s the former on-board scientist from the crew that first encountered the black hole. He was originally presumed dead, but suddenly reappeared one day, and was found nearby by Phil, who dragged him to the lab. He’s...different. He’s seen things.
Charlie and Wilbur graduated from the same university, and were actually working in the same lab before Wilbur joined his crew in space for an up-close study.
Philza has a bad habit of adopting any creature he finds, and it’s become something of a joke by the four. He adopted Tommy, he’s adopted Wilbur and Charlie, and he has quite a few birds and other creatures that followed him back.
Body Shuffle Mod AU:
Universe where glitches a common sight, and humanity has evolved alongside them.
The world basically...well, I wouldn’t say revolves around? But glitches are a large part of life at this point, and players have specifically evolved to be able to work with them.
A common glitch includes the Body Glitch, where random body parts will seemingly vanish off a person without causing them harm or effecting them.
Tommy and Charlie are Takers, people who have a special, glitch-specific gene that allows them to take a glitch effecting a being or item, and pull that effect from said being/item, and upon themselves.
They’re equally loved and hated, considering the rarity of the gene, and what uses it could be employed for.
The two have a business that they use this ability to take and relocate glitches for various purposes.
Philza and Wilbur are the two’s bodyguards turned friends, who protect them from less savory people, and suss out the ones with bad intentions.
Gas Mod AU:
Universe set in a modern fantasy world where a mysterious gas suddenly overtook the planet. Many died. A few survived-but for some of them, that was the crueler fate, as the mysterious gas began to make them monsterous creatures that sought flesh and blood.
Tommy, Charlie, Phil and Wilbur are the scattered survivors in a city overtaken by the gas, banding together to fight back the monsters born from the green fog, and stay alive.
Wilbur was formerly a cartographer on a ship. He’s also half siren, and his most priceless possession is a diamond dagger given to him by his former captain.
Charlie is a doctor, as well as a wizard. His magic pet is a slime-like dragon. Yeah, he’s not sure where the little guy came from either.
Phil got a whole cocktail of heritage, but most are sky-related, so he’s got a strong grasp on air magic, which he uses to create safe bubbles for the gang to breathe freely.
And Tommy’s a low tier human-turned demon after death- an imp, basically. He causes havoc.
They all have to wear gas mask, which are heavily enchanted to keep the gas from affecting them.
The group basically just has a weirdly domestic life in the abandoned city, after they cleared out an abandoned apartment building to chill in.
Surgery Mod:
Universe where the gang are the experiments of a mad scientist having escaped.
Tommy is a poison-based experiment, Wilbur is a Nether-based one, Philza is an End-based experiment, and Charlie is an Over-world based one.
They were all grouped together in a cell because the older three are part of the Dimension Project, and Tommy accidentally imprinted on Wilbur when he was created, meaning he would have died if he was separated from him.
The four eventually decide that they hate this life, and stage a break out with the rest of the guys experiments.
Once they escaped, they decided to travel the world as a family, exploring everything they’d never had the chance to see, and finding where they belonged in this place.
Lava Floor Mod AU:
Universe where all the oceans in the world have been replaced by lava. For Ninja, Tommy, Wilbur, and George, their get-along vacation goes south when they’re stranded alone on a chain of distant islands, far from any sign of civilization.
If they ever hope to survive, they’ll have to put their issues to the side and work together to get to the one place unaffected-the Nether.
Tommy ‘Smokes’ Notfound, and Wilbur ‘Soot’ Fortnite are the two children of the struggling couple George ‘Specs’ Notfound and Ninja ‘Bow’ Fortnite, who haven’t seen each other in years, despite still being married.
The two, knowing how close their kids were, agree to meet up so the two can hang out, which is why they ended up on this vacation on the first place.
Wilbur and Smokes would really appreciate if their parents could get along too-it’d make vacation a lot nicer without all the tension. And yes, they could worry about all the oceans turning to lava, but they won’t. Instead, they’re going to be gremlins who try to get their parents to make up, whether that means divorce, or becoming a happy couple again.
Rising Void Mod AU:
Universe where the planets are being eaten by the void. Tommy, Philza, and Quackity are all aliens who managed to escape the demise of their home planets, and crashed landed on Earth, with the intention of warning them of what was coming.
Unfortunately, the only guy around for miles is Ranboo, a conspiracy theorist who prefers his isolated mountain cabin to the city...and also is in complete denial about the existence of aliens, even if they’re standing right in front of him.
Quackity is from a planet where ores and gems have a large part of fashion culture.
Tommy’s planet was the first to fall. However, Quackity was the one who was closest to be touching, and it leaves side effects-like him occasionally hearing it’s eldritch whispering calling for him to surrender himself to it and stop fighting-
But, y’know. It’s fine. It’s all good.
(Although he does happen to be the most aware of their inevitable fate, and uses humor to cope with the knowledge that no matter how hard they try, he and these people he’s grown to care for are going to die, and there’s absolutely no way to stop that)
Sky Grid Mod AU
Universe where Ranboo is a young, lonely god born to a grid-formed world. Though he has made many interesting creations, he decides he wants someone like him. Who can listen, and answer, and love, and hate.
And the universe loves him, so it answers.
It finds two souls who’ve died too young, and puts them into his hands to mold as he wishes. One, he creates in colors of green, like grass, and emeralds, and poison alike. The other, he creates in colors of red, like lava and poppies, and warm beds.
Their names are Tubbo and Tommy, and they’re different than what he thought they’d be. They cannot be controlled or remade, but they can bleed, and they can laugh, and most importantly, they can make choices.
And they choose to love him, taking him in their embrace as a friend, treating him kindly, and as one of their own, regardless of his power or abilities.
The three make a home in the gridded world, finding themselves and never fearing the fall, because the world loves both it’s godling, and the people made within it.
Terraforming The Moon AU:
Universe where the remains of humanity have fled to the moon upon the destruction of earth. They unintentionally awake age-old space deities, who, luckily for them, feel like lending a hand-mostly.
Wilbur is the only actual deity of the moon, but the rest of the SBI spend more time there than they don’t, because humans are interesting.
Tommy’s the youngest god, a deity of the stars within their young galaxy-it’s a position that was passed onto him by the former star deity, Clara.
Technoblade is the deity of both Mars and Venus. He’s actually been to Earth a few times before it’s destruction, and finds their cultures fascinating-particularly the Greek and Romans.
Philza is the god of the End. The oldest, he’s not just a deity, he’s a primordial of the end of all things. Truthfully, it was the very end of Earth that awoke him from his slumber, and it’s former inhabitants interesting lives that keep him awake.
They all pick a human to favor, and help out. Changes on the day.
Honestly, they aren’t necessarily malicious? They don’t really consider the fact that humans don’t have the same limitations and powers as them, so occasionally they fuck something up that somebody worked hard on, and don’t understand why they don’t just fix it already, not realizing that the humans actually have to take awhile to do that.
One Hundred Player Laboratory AU:
Universe set in modern time.
Wilbur and Technoblade are two university students trying to do a study for their finals-unfortunately, the rats they were supposed to use are both oddly sentient, and incredibly chaotic.
Techno and Wilbur are doing a study of behavior, and other scientific things. To do this, Techno has built a large, complex maze/building thing.
And Wilbur purchased a bunch of rats-except, he probably should have been a bit more careful who he bought from, becomes these rats definitely understand human speech, are all not normally colored, and desire to be as annoying and detrimental to their grades as possible.
To put it lightly, it’s not going well.
George’s If You Laugh You Lose Rematch AU:
Universe set in a chaotic, light-hearted world.
Sapnap, Karl, George, and Dream are some of the world’s residents.
Karl and Dream are chaotic shapeshifters who enjoy messing with George.
Sapnap’s a mischievous nether spirit who likes to team up and help them do it.
Karl can shift into objects, and Dream can turn into animals.
The whole world is comedic, and all it’s residents have a permanent case of the giggles-to the point of making a game of how long one can hold off laughing.
Sapnap usually takes the form of an enderman or enderman hybrid

I was going to actually post this before asks closed (didn’t get the chance), but Teddy Bear Anon, you are one of my favorite people and a magnificent creature. You get my vibe.
About Bad canonically being Sapnap’s dad I feel like that has so much extra angst potential when we consider the rest of the found family. Like. Sapnap, Tommy, and Fundy all have dads who started with the best of intentions but for one reason or another ended up slowly becoming a danger to them. I imagine Tommy and Fundy one day showing up with a cake and telling Sapnap “We regretfully welcome you to the shit dad club” and Sapnap is torn between being upset still and laughing over the absurdity of the situation.
Bonus points if Tommy made the cake using a recipe book that Niki gave him, the last gift Niki ever gave to Tommy. Tommy was originally a really bad cook/baker but after the egg really started to take over he went full survivalist. Leaning to cook was necessary but learning to bake was something he did as a way to raise everyone’s spirits. He’s never gotten the flavor quite to match with Niki’s perfectly but everyone agrees he’s gotten pretty decent in terms of skills. He and Fundy in particular will sometimes just spend an entire day in silence baking and then quietly eat their creations while reflecting on the friends they’ve made and lost over the course of L'manberg’s lifetime. When the group got back to the past and Niki made cookies for Tommy and Fundy the pair very nearly started crying.
Tommy is in an interesting position as a character since he did commit a lot of minor crimes and acted as a general nuisance but he was also still a child. (A very traumatized one considering I canonize SMP Earth with its unlimited lives but even more wars. Including against God. Tommy fought God just let me have this.) He acknowledges the moments when he went over the line and has tried to apologize. In particular at some point before the egg fully takes over he pulls aside Jack and tells him that he’s sorry for the way he acted when he was still in exile, taking one of Jack’s lives and all. Jack and Niki in particular are an interesting subject to address and a painful one for immune!Tommy to think about when he sees younger Niki because the three never fully tossed out the hatchet but it was obvious in the eyes of someone like Sam that both of them were growing more and more hesitant to hurt Tommy. It was made worse by the fact neither were even marginally immune, and it didn’t take long for the egg to get to them.
He never stopped being chaotic. Tommy at his core is just that kind of person. He did, however, grow up enough to act in a more mature manner. Started to recognize what’s too much. In particular he became a lot less violent and willing to lash out after Sam Nook in essence reparented him. He’s still an absolute wild card of a person, which in the eyes of Sam and Sapnap is a good thing. For this au I think we should actually address Tommy having severe ptsd and during the building of his hotel/the early days of the egg before it becomes a noticeable threat it shows. He’s a lot more subdued. Shows of aggression all carry a kind of desperation and his typical jokes feel flat. Lashing out at people slowly becomes more of a defense mechanism to see if someone’s going to leave or betray him, to test the limits of how nice they’re willing to be. After all, nice people have only ever been nice to Tommy when they wanted something from him. His eyes, especially after L'manberg is blow sky high, are well and truly gray. The first time Tommy genuinely laughs after filling Sapnap’s room with chickens is considered celebration worthy to them. His pranks take on a more hermitcraft-esque feel to them which honestly makes them more funny.
By the time they get to the past Tommy has recovered, but he still carries the kind of maturity that like Teddy Bear mentioned is reminiscent of age swap Tommy. When he gets especially stressed though, Immune!Tommy will slip into moments where he acts as tired and done with the world as age swap Tommy. With that said, most of the time he just acts like a more mature Tommy. Nothing could ever completely erase his unique vibe which Ranboo has gone on record as describing “Willing to fight God deaf, blind, and backwards just to prove a point."
Immune Fundy and Tommy get on really well once Fundy manages to catch up with the rest of the group. It gets to the point where everyone from the past is kinda shocked since smp Fundy and Tommy do not get along. At all. Literally the first night Fundy’s back someone goes to wake them up and they find Fundy asleep on top of Tommy which is a wild experience since this Tommy is a goliath who often refuses to take off his full Netherite max enchant armor. He really becomes a "looks like he could kill you but is actually a cinnamon roll” kinda mans.
Also, yeah, this is Dream’s retirement arc. He is literally just sitting in the corner watching Tommy dote on his younger self and Tubbo before completely pile driving two of the most powerful people on the server straight into the dirt. At some point Tommy sits down with past Punz. He tells this Punz that their Punz died protecting him and Tubbo and that Tommy never got to properly thank their Punz so he’s going to thank this Punz. Tommy then gives Punz an entire stack of Netherite. If we’re gonna go ahead and agree on Phoenix Tommy then Tommy is fire proof, meaning he probably spent a large amount of time in the nether to avoid the egg crew and get rare supplies. Meaning he also probably did a lot of mining just to distract himself and it resulted in him being loaded. Tommy used to have a fear of tnt and explosives but he seems like the type of mad lad to say “exposure therapy” and make a massive cavern in the underbelly of the nether.
I think it would also be really interesting to dedicate like, a couple of chapters to other people’s perspectives. I kind of want to set the time they arrive in the past partway through the Pogtopia arc since I like mildly unhinged but not completely gone Wilbur. Plus then it also makes more sense for Techno to be there. Just prefer the aesthetic really. I want to have Wilbur see this version of Tommy and come to a sudden “oh” moment. I want to have a moment where Tubbo looks between his Tommy and this new Tommy, seeing himself nowhere to be found, and has enough what the fuck moments to become aggressively protective of his own Tommy. Especially if immune!Tommy ever admits to the past Tubbo why he is the way he is, what he faced under the thumb of the people he trusted. Which, out of everyone on the server, Tubbo would be the first one from the past to actively learn.
I am fully on board with Tommy knowing how to sew. That should just automatically be canon in literally ever AU. Tommy for all intents and purposes is still Phil’s child for me. Survival runs in the family the same way that chaos does, so he’s got a ton of basic survival skills that he just doesn’t show off because it’s still Tommy. He would have been completely fine in exile if it wasn’t for Dream. Whenever someone ruins their clothes in the Immune group they automatically go to Tommy and at first the past versions are very confused (except for past Tommy and Tubbo obviously) and then Tommy’s just “Sapnap this is beyond ruined it can’t be saved, let me make you something new” and within a couple days he makes Sapnap a completely new outfit. Like maybe Sapnap fell into a lava pool because Blaze Sapnap Supremacy and his clothes are beyond saving and everyone is beyond baffled when Tommy just acts like this is a weekly occurrence. He’s memorized Sapnap’s measurements and style tastes and already had a new outfit in the works for him that Sapnap immediately adores upon it being presented to him. It takes about a week for past Eret to learn that Tommy stress sews new clothing and he cannot think of a better model. Eret has never had such a full closet. Eret has everything from three piece suits to ball gowns now. Eret lives in terror of the days where Tommy disappears god knows where with Fundy and the two reappear with a new wardrobe for the entire god damn server.
Speaking of disappearing I really like the idea of part phoenix and part tanuki Tommy for a couple reasons. Being a Tanuki he’d have access to enough magic to hide his hybrid traits, which if they’ve been present for long enough would be a necessity to him. Additionally think about Fundy and Tommy building a den under Church Prime that slowly turns into a maze. Think about it. It starts off simple and then they both start digging more and it gets deeper and deeper and more complicate and the two just refer to it as their den and the only ones who are fully aware of the connotations of that word are Sam, Sapnap, and Ranboo who remember the absolute hell that was trying to navigate the original. Just Fundy and Tommy bonding over the fact they are literally the only creatures on this server that have this catacomb memorized and at the end of the catacomb is their saferoom which connects to rail way that the two spent a month straight on. It goes at least 25k blocks from spawn and it’s a final emergency resort in case they can’t stop the egg and the Immunes needs to regroup and essentially try again (if they keep bringing their younger selves with them then hopefully they’ll finally get an army large enough to stop this, but everyone really hopes it doesn’t come to that.)
I’m working on the first chapter of my fic right now actually if I’m gonna be honest and phoenix Tommy is absolutely without question canon to it but I’ve still been going back and forth on if I want him to be part tanuki as well or just blessed/favored by one like Teddy Bear mentioned. I’m also tucking away the whole thing about the magma blood for later use. Phoenix Tommy just makes sense. They used to call him Zombie Kid for a reason back on SMP Earth, he just literally does not die ever unless he decides he does.

What does Kaze's diet actually consist of? Curious minds want to know (and want him to eat better).
Miscellaneous asks
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Hi! I'll answer this and also clarify some additional things since this is a good opportunity to do so. In short, it depends entirely on the period of his life. Most of his early childhood was spent on the streets so he'd steal and eat miscellaneous things, and eat fast. The easiest food to acquire would be common seasonal fruit (with hard shells tiresome to peel by hand, but an orphan needs to do what they can to survive) and bread. Trying to nab mpre expensive things would result in a much higher punishment if caught, which does not mean he did not try, and thankfully he avoided having his fingers removed. All in all, he had to be opportunistic and clever as a thief. That's how he developed survivalist feeding habits like eating anything edible and doing so quickly. During his life with the Wind Warriors he could get food more reliably and eat what he should be eating as a Windarian. Windarian biology is similar to human (duh haha! Ah, Final Fantasy alien races.) but leaning more carnivorous. Kaze finally got to eat meat more consistently, mostly what he and his warbandmates hunted themselves. Also various desert fruit, and Windarian flora contained very high amounts of capsaicin which also means he's impervious to spiciness. Fish was scarce in his diet because Windaria was mostly desert, seafood was extremely expensive. Obviously, he learned how to cook as part of survival training, but he never bothered with seasoning so his cooking is quite bland.]
[After Windaria's fall, during the events of the anime, he ate next to nothing as a result of mental health collapse, and the Magun kept him alive. He was immortal so even if he happened to starve to death he'd be right back up, sometimes running purely on processed Soil energy. During After, when he regained most of his memories, his Spiral magic, and was more or less on the road to recovery, he would mostly eat stuff from the Comodeen's supplies with the rest of the Comodeen crew, and so would Kumo. Not that he ate consistently, though, he still doesn't. Has a habit of running off to do things behind the scenes and all that.]
[In the current post-show verse, he spends most of his time in Wonderland which operates on a singular currency, gil (as well as singular language) which helps greatly with buying supplies. He typically stocks up on dried meat for travels and hunts when he needs to acquire more food. Being immortal and resistant to most poisons helps with consuming random things such as a sector's local edible plantlife. What's edible to the local inhabitants may not be edible to other races, after all.]
[Now some issues arise in the interactions that he ends up going to Outside Worlds (non-Wonderland worlds) which: a) do not have the same currency and b) whose people do not speak the same language so acquiring food becomes a problem. The language barrier is something I shoo away with the explanation that some form of "Common" is widely used, while local currency still needs to be obtained in some way. He and Kumo mostly travel together and me and @shiroi---kumo are in the process of coming up with some logistical headcanons still. What do they eat? How do they get food? They probably get their money + food in exchange for doing monster hunting jobs, but if that's impossible, and nobody has any small work fit for two random dimensional travelers with VERY suspicious weapons, I can also see a particularly desperate Kaze robbing someone of some of their cash simply because he'd rather steal than beg. Cue Kumo's extreme butthurt. Sorry Cloudy, Windy would rather not steal due to a gunmage's pride but if ya gotta revert to old habits, ya gotta. Even immortals cannot go too long without food or their efficiency is going to dwindle due to tiredness, fainting, pain, regen factor slowing down, etc etc.]
[Thanks for the ask! I turned it into a long one huh ^^, don't worry, Aura taught Kumo how to cook good food, and he's gonna make sure Kaze eats better. So will Cid, who took up the role of the Unlimited's doctor. Black Wind, you may be part machine but you're not ENTIRELY one.]

KHR/BNHA Fanfic: Role Model Part 1
Sometime last week in the dead of night
My Brain: Hey, you know what?
Me: It’s 2am, why are we not sleeping???
My Brain: If Dabi is Todoroki Touya, then it means he’s a character that was trained for a future role he couldn’t have, that was taken away from him by his father figure due to circumstances outwith his control, was heavily scarred because of it, and as a result; wants to kill said father figure.
Me: …And?
My Brain: …And who would you say that describes almost perfectly?
Me:…
No.  Nonononono!  I do not need another plot bunny setting up shop in my-and we’re already getting out of bed and writing this down before we forget aren’t we?
My Brain: ^_^
Enjoy!
Role Model: Part 1
Xanxus would really like to know why, when other Trash screw up, he’s the one who has to pay for it.
Seriously, if it’s not his asshole of a not-Father lying his face off for a decade, it’s the baby-Trash getting flung into the future and knocking out the entire Varia high command for 48 hours while they process an additional decade of memories, or some kind of ramen-eating-God trying to kill his Mist via flame-devouring-pacifiers before he shoves one on Xanxus to do the same.
And people wonder why he has a short temper.  He’s a reasonable man!  Just give him a mission that doesn’t involve everything he’s ever known getting flung into a blender with a side of magical-crap and tossed 180 degrees in the air.  Whatever happened to good old Mafioso shoot outs and negotiation’s over dinner?
…God he misses assassinations pre-flame bullshit.  They were so much more fun when he was the only one in the room that knew how to use them.
And now…this.
In the toilet attached to the lavish meeting room he’d found himself in, he leans over the sink and scowls at the face in the mirror.  A good decade older than he should be, with red, spiky hair and matching stubble on his chin.  Inarguably Asian features, skin paler than his own had ever been, and shoulders like goddamn Levi.
For fucks sake!  Now he has to deal with idiot-Trash in other universes screwing him over? This kind of thing is supposed to happen to the Baby-Trash!  Not him!
He’s still not entirely sure what happened.  One minute, he’s enjoying the last glass of scotch the Bronco-Trash sent over in gratitude for a job well done, the next, his brain’s free falling into nothing.  For a brief moment, panic had taken over, and - positive he was being put under the Zero Point again - lashed out the second he could use his arms.
This resulted in him knocking out someone leaning over his body, and when he heard metal smashing against hard floor – two things that shouldn’t have been anywhere near him - his eyes slammed open to reveal the inside of an ambulance, and a very nervous looking medic overlooking him.
“Endeavour, please relax,” he urges in Japanese, trying to retain eye contact as he kneels down to check on his prone partner.  “We’re still checking for any other effects from the Villain’s quirk.  Do you feel okay? Is there any negative blowback?”
Xanxus just glares at him, trying to piece the words together and wondering why the hell Squalo had called in an ambulance when they have a Quality medical team in the damn mansion, before his eyes catch a glimpse of his legs.
He can’t stop gaping as turns and takes in his full body, pulling up his hands in furious disbelief.
“What the fuck?” he yells, turning them over as if the front will be any less ridiculous.
Xanxus has never, in his life, worn something this humiliating.  It’s a skin tight (almost obscenely so), navy blue bodysuit with orange highlights, along with white bracer’s that go up half his arm and a pair of knee high boots – all of which reek like they’ve been hung to dry in a building undergoing an arson attack.
His first thought, is that whatever mist did this is going to pay.  Painfully.
“Endeavour, what’s wrong?” the man asks again, only to squawk as Xanxus shoves him with the heavy hand and stumbles to his feet, jumping out the door.
What he sees when he staggers outside the ambulance doesn’t help the situation.  While there’s cameras, they don’t look like they’re filming so much as reporting.  There’s chaos outside, but the citizens trapped behind yellow tape have him wondering if someone drugged his booze. Horns, wings, two heads…so many people in the crowd are just ‘off’ in a way that doesn’t make sense.
An even deeper glance in front of the tape doesn’t make things any easier.  One of the men – he’s assuming police – has a cat head, while there are several men and woman dressed even more ridiculous than he is. One of them is dressed feet-to-nose in fucking denim!
There are so many possible scenarios, and one is not raised by Vongola standards without acknowledging the truly ridiculous.  As such, the realisation comes very quickly.  This is not his world.  Not even remotely.
Denim-Trash is starting to make his way towards him, and he can feel the paramedics staring at his back.  His eyes flick down to his hand, and he tries to reach for his flames – searching for the primal rage and right of rule that encompass his entire will.
But there’s nothing.  His core feels empty.  Not sealed, but rather, just not there.  Wherever he is.  Whoever he is, flames don’t exist.
No flames.
That…complicates things.
The man in the ridiculous denim getup appraises him.
“You’re not Endeavour, are you?” he says.  Xanxus looks him over.  Considers his options.
“What makes you say that?” he growls.  Denim-Trash raises one eyebrow.
“Endeavour would be screaming blue murder at being put in an ambulance where anyone could see him.”
Well doesn’t ‘Endeavour’ sound like a charmer.  Not that Xanxus would act any differently, but he’d never need the fucking ambulance in the first place.
The survivalist in him wants to play along.  Bluff his way into solitude until he can figure out what’s happening.  But the Boss part of him has already lined up his options.  There’s just too many variables here.  If he wants home, he’s not going to figure it out alone.
He huffs and crosses his arms.
“No,” he admits. “Looks like somebody royally screwed up.”
Denim-Trash sighs, and runs a hand through his perfectly styled hair.
“And to think, I thought this was going to be a slow week…”
He’s immediately ushered to a tall skyscraper not too far away from the incident site, and taken straight to the top floor, where the office of his ‘host’ resides.  There, he finds his way to the bathroom he now finds himself in, trying to compose himself while he figures out what the fuck to do.  Denim-Trash had handed him off to some kind of support staff, but it had been clear nobody had wanted to answer any questions until they had him contained.
It at least gives him time to recover.  He desperately wants a drink, if only so he can throw something at the assholes who are going to come escort him again.
The information he has is limited.  There was a phone in his host’s pocket, but without knowing the code it was useless.  All he can go on is what he’s seen.  This city looks very Japanese, but the people barely qualify as human.  And the advertisements are all showing people he doesn’t recognise, who look like they should be hand drawn on the front of the comic books he used to read as a kid.
His flames are also gone, and as far as he can tell, the concept doesn’t exist here. But this outfit was designed to handle fire, and he keeps hearing the word ‘quirk,’ which makes him think there might be something else that substituted on a more mainstream level.
When he hears voices entering the office, he slams the door of the bathroom open and strides into like he’s not dressed like some idiot on a Sentai show.  He gives a huff of approval as he takes in the room again – the idiot’s whose body he’s somehow possessing might have awful taste in clothes, but he at least knows what he’s doing with interior decorating.
There are five arrivals when he drops into the plush office seat, and he makes a point to push it away from the computer.  Along with Denim-Trash, one of them is dressed worse than he is and looks terrified to be here, while another screams ‘cop’ with his suit.  The third is an old woman, who merely cocks her eyebrow as Xanxus glides over the floor in the chair, and at her back is a man about Xanxus’s age, dressed in shapeless black and the world’s ugliest scarf.  Seriously, if his Sun was here, that thing would already be aflame, and the world would be better off for it.
He leans on one hand and scowls.
“So?” he asks. “Figured out how to undo this yet, Trash?”
Terrified makes a squeak that reminds him of the Baby-Trash, but it’s Scarf-Trash that steps forward.
“We spoke to the Villain who attacked Endeavour, and tried to deactivate his quirk,” he explains.  “Unfortunately, once activated, it can’t be shut off.”
Xanxus files away the term ‘quirk’ for future research, and Cop-Trash starts speaking.
“Three days,” he says.  “That’s how long it takes to wear off.  Which is three days longer than anyone really wants the number 2 hero out of commission.”
“To be honest, it might be to our benefit,” the old lady adds.  “Endeavour is known for burning the candle at both ends, no pun intended.  A few days of forced relaxation could be just what he needs.  More importantly, I want to know exactly who we’re dealing with in the mean time.”
Xanxus immediately titles her as the smartest person he’s met so far.  Nobody else has even thought to ask.
“Yes,” the cop says.  “According the registry, his quirk swaps a person’s mind with someone of a similar mindset.  However, he also said that quite often, the people he brings do not seem familiar with this world.”
All of them - minus Terrified, who looks like he wants to sink into the floor – face him with curious looks.  Scarf-Trash also has a hand on his accessory, while Denim’s fingers are twitching.
“So, who are you?” Scarf-Trash asks.  “And what’s your quirk?  According to records, it varies on whether or not it follows.”
Xanxus stares back, glaring in challenge.  The Cop’s eyes slide away, but the other three match him head on.  His lips twitch slightly in respect.
“My name is Xanxus,” he offers.  “And where I come from, superheroes belong in comic books.  I’ve never heard of ‘quirks’ before today.”
Terrified seems to perk up at that, and the others seem somewhat relieved.
“Well, this world may seem a little strange to you, but I promise you’ll be kept in good hands,” the older woman offers.  “And I’m sure Endeavour will try to keep a low profile until his return.”
Xanxus thinks about what would happen if a self proclaimed hero suddenly landed in the middle of the Varia mansion, and can’t fight the snort of laughter that follows.  It makes the old woman frown.
“That amuses you?” she asks, and Xanxus grins.
“My world is a lot more dangerous” he tells them.  “The criminal underworld is still a thriving commodity, and no quirks, so we don’t have heroes, and don’t look kindly on those that think that’s an option.”
Well, not unless you count a certain brat in Japan who still seems to think he can make the mafia a nice place through the power of friendship…
“It’s a cruel irony,” he continues.  “Your Endeavour isn’t going to know what to do with himself.  Better not get himself killed before we swap back.”
Their faces go dark at that, and Xanxus allows himself to grin.  If it’ll kick their asses into gear and get them to figure out how to get him home quicker, he’ll tell them anything they need to know.
“What about yourself?” Scarf-Trash asks.  “Not a hero, and no quirk, what is it you do back home?”
Xanxus quickly amends his earlier thought.  Certain things would not go over well in such company, and he’s still not sure how well he can defend himself.  It’s probably going to be better for everyone if he doesn’t mention his own personal alliance.  He’s sure Endeavour will do a fine job of explaining that once his traumatised ass returns.
“I run a field office that’s part of my adopted father’s company,” he bluffs. “Lot of classified, high pressure, time sensitive work.  Not looking forward to having it sit on a desk for 3 days.  My employees are going to go mental.”
There’s an understatement.  He guarantee’s Levi is already halfway through a mental breakdown, and Squalo will be screaming at whatever idiot made the mistake of walking down the hall.  Bel will take the opportunity to go ‘play’ (hopefully not with Xanxus’s body), and Mammon is already charging him for the inconvenience of this whole affair. He’s calling it now.
On the plus side, his audience seem to buy it.
“Well then, Xanxus,” the cop says.  “We’ll do our best to get you back as soon as possible.  Until then, I hope you’re willing to work with us to mitigate the damage.”
Xanxus rolls his eyes.
“What do you Trash want me to do?”
In the end, his jury decide that since Xanxus doesn’t have a quirk, and doesn’t appear to be able to use Endeavours (fire, which makes sense and is something he might see about rectifying while he waits), that they’ll hide him in his host’s home for the three days.  The man’s family has already been informed, but if he steps out of line, they’ll be taking him back into custody.
It could be worse, he guesses.  He’s in the body of someone important, which means they won’t do anything too damaging to him, and they’re working as fast as they can to get this Endeavour guy back.  He doubts he needs to do anything but stand aside and let them work. Since he’s the victim of a quirk and had no say, he’s clearly being treated with kid gloves.
No, the biggest threat to getting home is, ironically, home.  If Endeavour is a- oh for fucks sake he can’t believe he’s saying this with a straight face – hero, having him land in Xanxus’s body will not end well for anyone.  The Varia are many things, and most of them are obvious – not even the densest man on the planet could look at them and think they were anything but criminals.  Which means he might run, and that’ll end badly since he’ll be eyeball deep in Mafia territory and probably try to find, ugh, law enforcement.  God willing, his inability to speak the language will convince the Vindice that it’s clearly not Xanxus doing it and keep him out of Vendicare.
Then again, that might be preferable for Endeavour trying to act his way out of it. For all his complaints, his men are Quality, and trained to spot possession and plants.  If Squalo or Bel don’t notice something is off within five minutes, Mammon will.  The lot of them are crazy, not stupid, which means when he gets back, his body will probably be covered in additional scars from ‘interrogation’ while they try to get him back ‘Varia-Style.’  They definitely won’t call in Vongola’s tech team till they’ve tried their own avenues, and Xanxus just prays they confirm that it’s his body before they let Lussuria bring out his ‘toys.’
He really wants a drink, but he’s expected to keep this body in top condition, and no doubt the man’s family will want their precious hero in one piece, so it’s going to be a long three days unless he can sneak something.  Or maybe Endeavour will turn out to be a secret alcoholic and he’ll be just fine.  If not, he’s going to need to find something for entertainment, or flame or no flames, something is going to burn.
‘Terrified’ is apparently some kind of support aide for Endeavour’s agency, and is put in charge of handling Xanxus while he hides out.  It doesn’t fill him with confidence – the man is definitely used to sitting in the back and giving ‘yes, sir, no sir,’ answers.  As such, he’s not putting much stock in the Todoroki family bios the man is awkwardly stuttering out as they drive to his temporary home.  It sounds like the blurb for some crappy sitcom.  A stay at home wife, two teens, a pre-teen and a brat, all living in harmony.  The eldest son was supposed to be following in his fathers footsteps, but had to hold back on applying due to illness.  The daughter is a perfect Nadeshiko in training, the next boy is thinking about medical school at fucking 12, and the youngest is already on the path to enter hero school in a few years.
Xanxus is the last person to ask about functioning families, but there’s no way this happy cookie cutter description can be accurate.
The car rolls up to a lavish Japanese style house, and Xanxus gives it an approving nod. He’s always preferred Western design, but he won’t deny quality when he sees it.  The security is actually much better than he’d expected too – proper walls and cameras set up in a manner that means he’s missing at least a few.
When they stop, the front door opens to reveal the Todoroki family, and his good mood evaporates.  The woman is a twig, hands a little tight on the youngest boy, whose hair would probably make his Sun squeal.  Both of them are looking at him with some suspicion.  For that matter, so are the pre-teen and the girl.  However, to the side…
The oldest boy has a shock of red hair similar to his current body, and while he refuses to meet Xanxus in the eye for more than a few seconds, his body language is clear.  He’s relieved.
Interesting.
Terrified has been speaking to the wife while he took in his own impressions, but he turns his attention back when he realises they’re looking at him.
“It’s strange,” the woman says.  “You still look so much like him.  The expressions are…well, very familiar.”
She gives a strained smile, and Xanxus feels satisfaction curl inside at the pain the woman is hiding.
‘I knew it. This Endeavour fucker isn’t half as honourable as they think.’
“I’m Rei,” she continues, oblivious to Xanxus having read her actions.  “We’ll set you up in one of the guest bedrooms for now, is that okay?”
“Is Dad really gone right now?” The pre-teen pipes up, and Rei’s head turns sharply in his direction.
“Natsuo!”
The boy in question pouts.
“What?  If he’s gone, that means we can play with Shouto today right?  He can’t be trained.”
The youngest, still pinned by Rei’s hands, looks up at his mother with something resembling hope.  Her eyes flicker between him and Xanxus, unsure what to say.
“I haven’t got the slightest clue what training Endeavour-Trash was doing,” Xanxus says, making the decision for her.  “Do what you want.”
The little brat and the pre-teen both grin, but Xanxus notices the red head turning to look at them-
Oh, now that’s interesting.  It’s not there for long, but there’s a very specific array of emotions flashing on the teen’s face when he looks at his youngest sibling.  They’re gone almost too quick to notice, but Xanxus caught it all.
He’s the only one though, as the girl takes his comment as an invitation, suspicion fading away as she steps forward and into a quick bow.
“I’m Fuyumi,” she says.  “We’ll try to make your stay as comfortable as possible.  Is there anything you need?”
A drink and a plane ticket to Italy, Xanxus thinks, but he doesn’t answer, choosing to stare at the boy on the end.
There’s something about the Trash’s appearance that’s bothering him, and he can’t figure out what.  His hair is long, definitely grown to hide his face, and he has the personality of a mouse judging from how much effort it takes to get him to raise it for more than a few moments. Every inch of his body is covered, from the turtle-neck down to the combat boots.  Given that it’s not a cold day and everyone bar Xanxus is in shorts, it’s probably a style choice.  But whenever he does look up, he’s grinning, and trying to hide it – between that and the earlier interaction, Xanxus makes his mind up rather quickly.
“How about a tour of this place?” Xanxus asks, and points at the teen.  “Yo, Trash, show me where I’m allowed to go.”
That gets the boy’s head up.  “W-what?  Me?”
Fuyumi looks a little blind sided, as does Rei, while Natsuo is frowning, but Xanxus just nods.
“Yeah, you,” he says.  “That a problem?”
“Touya?” Fuyumi asks, glancing at her other brother, but the teen – Touya, Xanxus tries to remember – just swallows and gives a shaky nod.
“Okay.  I can do that,” he says, and gestures with his arm.  “Follow me.”
Xanxus grins and does just that, passing the confused family and immediately tossing them out of his mind for now.  When they enter the building, the boy risks looking up at him, agitation on his face for the first time.
“Why me?” he asks.  “Fuyumi would have done it.”
“I didn’t want Fuyumi-Trash to do it,” Xanxus said.  “You’re more interesting.”
Touya’s eyebrows furrow, and Xanxus smiles – the expression slipping off when Touya flinches.
“Your old man, he’s Trash, isn’t he?”
The teen at his side pauses as he walks down the hall.
“He…Endeavour is the Number 2 hero in Japan,” he replies.
“And my old man is one of the most powerful men in the world,” Xanxus counters. “Doesn’t change the fact that he’s a piss poor father”
Ah, there is is. Touya’s lips peel back in a wicked smile for a quick second, and Xanxus goes in for the kill.
“I picked you, because you’re the only one in this family not trying to hide it.”
Another flinch, and then the teen looks up at him, confusion in his eyes.  Xanxus faces him head on.
“I saw the look you gave the baby brat, Trash,” he tells him.  “Back when he learned he didn’t have to ‘train.’  I might have only gotten the media approved profiles, but I’ve seen this before.”
God has he ever seen it before.  Resentment at a sibling, followed by guilt for feeling resentment, finished off with anger at the whole situation.  He knows that look well.  Before his brother’s died, when the Ninth chose them one after the other instead of him, he wore it on a daily basis.
Before he knew why, and resentment and guilt disintegrated into pure rage.
Touya almost looks guilty, and his eyes are getting wider by the second.  Xanxus grins.
Looks like he’s found his entertainment.
“I’ve got three days here, Trash,” he says.  “Quality can destroy worlds in one.  So why don’t you tell me what’s really going on in this house?”

Hello, you're an amazing writer! I truly enjoyed all of your stories! Recently I really liked the Two Kids universe. I don't know if you planned to write more of it but if you did i'd be really happy to read it :) Maybe after the birth of toastbabiy number 2 and the Hayhanna baby too ( i have a soft spot for this ship), when the kids are still babies or toddlers ( or even children)... Thank you for all the great stories you make! (sorry for my english, it's not my first langage ;)
First off, thank you so much for the compliment! I’m flattered and I’m so glad that you enjoyed Two Kids and the follow-up.
Since I’m kind of loving this universe at the moment, I thought I’d finish it off with a little follow-up.
I hope you enjoy! Happy Reading!
Summary: In which Katniss and Peeta become the mentors. A follow-up to “Two Kids” and this story.
“Diaper.”
Peeta reaches over to the basket holding the diapers before tossing one at me. I catch it easily before looking down at Abner or Abie—our four-month-old—and give him a bright smile. Abie wriggles on his changing table, but I easily slip the diaper under his used one, wipe him, then switch out the soiled diaper for a clean one.
Wrapping the dirty diaper, I toss it to Peeta who catches it with ease before throwing it into the wastebasket.
“Daddy!”
Jack, our three year old, is awake.
“His plate is already on the table. Remember—”
“Toast cut into squares, no crust, and jelly on every corner,” Peeta finishes for me.
He grabs the cloth wrap on the nursery’s dresser and helps me wrap it on my center as I finish dressing Abie. I crisscross the ends as I put Abie into position before placing him into the pocket of the wrap. Peeta tightens the wrap to create support under our son’s legs before tying the ends at my waist.
I give Peeta a grateful smile and lean to give him a kiss—
“Daddy!”
“I owe you,” he says before rushing out the door.
“As soon as we get downstairs, I’ll feed you,” I tell Abie. “Which boob do you want today? Left, or right?”
“Right is my particular favorite.” Peeta walks into the room with Jack in his arms. “Jack wanted to say good morning to Abie.”
Jack, sweet boy he is, presses a kiss to the top of his little brother’s head. “Abie…”
I take in this moment of calmness; this is what Peeta and I fought for and what others died for.
These small pockets of life where it is just perfect.
Then, a shrill cry from across the way breaks through the peace of our household.
Peeta and I look to one another.
Lulu is awake.
++++++
We step into the Abernathy home, walking over a pile of clothes at the front door as we follow the crying. There’s an overwhelming smell of powder in the air and, as we move forward, one of Haymitch’s geese dashes pass us.
I walk into the sitting room and find Johanna rocking Lulu in her arms, hair askew…and topless. Peeta covers Jack’s eyes before turning away.
I approach her carefully. “Johanna?”
She looks up at us, stare full of exhaustion. “Lulu’s not eating! I keep trying, but she just won’t latch.” Her mouth begins to tremble. “What if she hates the taste of my milk?”
I join her on the couch. “I’m sure that your milk is just fine. Where is Haymitch?”
“I don’t know.” Her eyes remain on the wailing baby. “Probably snuck out in the middle of the night. I don’t blame him.”
Haymitch suddenly stumbles in and for a moment, I think he’s drunk.
He’s not. He’s just exhausted.
“Spilled baby powder last night, Lulu almost fell off the table…so many diapers…had to clean up the nursery…”
Sitting on the couch, Haymitch sits back, practically falling asleep against me.
Standing up, I go to Peeta. “They need help.”
Named after Johanna’s mother, Louisa—or Lulu as she is affectionately known—is just shy of two months old. She was born on a winter evening sporting Haymitch’s thick dark locks and Johanna’s penetrating eyes—a perfect combination.
Haymitch and Johanna insisted on not needing anyone to help them, both so use to taking care of themselves. However, they’ve both failed to realize that they are no longer solo, they are now a couple—at least, I think they are—and parents.
“But they said that they didn’t need our help,” Peeta responds.
“Yeah, that flew out the window when we both got a good look at Johanna’s breasts,” I tell him, and he colors. “Don’t act like you didn’t see them. I’m not mad—they’re hard not to look at.”
Peeta looks to me. “I do prefer your breasts.”
“I know you do, but we’re going off topic.” I turn to the two on the couch; Johanna is currently letting Lulu suck on her finger like a pacifier, looking dazed. Haymitch has slid down to the floor, his head on couch seat. “They have to learn to be a team.”
“When did you become Effie?” Peeta jokes.
“Someone has to be,” I reply resolutely. “You handle Haymitch. I’ll take Johanna.”
“Deal,” Peeta responds. He puts Jack down and smiles at our son. “Why don’t we help Haymitch and Johanna clean up? Then make them lunch?”
Jack pumps his fist excitedly. “Yeah!”
“First mission—let’s find a broom.”
Peeta takes Jack’s hand and they head to the back of the house in search of cleaning supplies.
After making sure Abie is okay, he is resting contentedly against my chest, I go to Johanna.
“Johanna…” She turns to me. “What happened to your shirt?”
“Milk soaked through and there are no clean clothes,” she explains. “Lulu hates my boobs; she keeps turning her head.” Her eyes fill and it twists my inside seeing her in despair. “I’m a bad mother.”
“You’re a new mother,” I tell her gently. “Why don’t we go upstairs and find you a shirt? Lulu seems to be calming down.”
“That’s a trick.” Johanna stands, wobbling slightly. “She pretends to be quiet, but as soon as my defenses are down and I’m about to sleep—she pounces!” Her eyes go to the girl staring up at her with Haymitch’s greys. “She really is my kid.”
++++++
The nursery is a wreck, despite Haymitch’s claim of cleaning up; Johanna explains that Lulu has gotten wriggly during diaper changes. In an attempt to diaper her without her falling off the table, Haymitch somehow spilled powder everywhere. Haymitch’s large footprints in the powder are tracked all over the floor.
“Peeta can teach him how to diaper her quickly,” I assure her.
Going to Johanna, who is sitting in the rocking chair, I take Lulu into my arms and cradle her next to Abie, who is snoozing contentedly in his sac. She seems to ease in my son’s calmness, settling in my arms.
I show Johanna how to slip a clean diaper under Lulu’s dirty one before cleaning her up and closing the diaper. I easily pull the dirty diaper out from under the baby then close it before throwing it in their wastebasket.
It takes less than a minute.
“I never get it done that fast,” Johanna says miserably. “I’m always afraid that it’s too tight or too loose. I don’t know why I can’t seem to get this right.”
“You’re going to make mistakes.” I place Lulu back in her arms. “But you learn from them. In the end, Lulu will only feel the love that you have for her.”
“I hope so, because I’m feel like I’m fucking up.” Her words come out in a tight whisper. “Sometimes, I think that this was all a big mistake.” She looks to me. “Is that wrong to say?”
“No.” I give her a smile. “We all have days like that.” Lulu begins to fuss, and I can see her lips pursing. “She’s hungry.” I grab a nearby pillow and place it on Johanna’s lap. “Use this to support Lulu so you can work on positioning her.”
Johanna nods, placing Lulu lengthwise on the cushion. She moves the semi-clean shirt off and adjusts Lulu’s head, close to her breast.
“Use your other hand and guide your nipple near her lips,” I instruct.
Johanna follows what I say, and I breathe a sigh of relief when Lulu quickly takes hold and begins to suckle.
“She’s eating,” Johanna exhales in happiness, relaxing into her seat. “Thank goodness.” She closes her eyes. “I was wrong. I do need help.”
“It took awhile to learn that I wasn’t alone,” I tell her. “In time, you’ll see that it becomes less scary to let people inside.”
Johanna opens her eyes, full of unshed tears. “Thank you.”
“I know you’re hormonal and will probably deny that you even said that later on.” I smile watching her caressing Lulu’s hair tenderly. “But I appreciate it.”
While Johanna continues feeding, I clean up what I can and then restock diapers and wipes in their appropriate places. Then, at my insistence, I tell Johanna to take a shower after I take Lulu.
“I’ll sit here,” I assure her. “Go while she’s in her food coma.”
When she is gone, I look at Lulu in her bassinet and smile seeing the best of both Haymitch and Johanna.
This one is going to be a warrior.
“You’re a lucky girl, Lulu.”
++++++
“So, you have the stew for tonight,” Peeta tells me. “Tomorrow, I can come by and show you how to make a roast and I’ll bring rolls. Also, I can make lactation cookies for Johanna. Just remember to keep her hydrated.”
I feel my head spinning at Peeta’s words. After showing me how to quickly diaper my child, the boy—man—wrote out a menu for the week and a list of groceries I am to get. Johanna and I cannot live on canned food alone, especially when he tells me how a good diet will help in Lulu’s feedings.
It is not easy for me when it comes to changes; I lived on schedules for awhile because they helped me from not thinking about the past. Before Katniss and Peeta, I lived on alcohol and drowning my pain in drunken slumbers.
However, that was when it was just me.
Now, there are three of us—and I can’t help but feel like I’m fucking it all up.
Johanna looks tired. Still beautiful, but tired, nonetheless. I feel helpless when I see her struggle with our Lulu, but I am also just as clueless.
However, for them, I will do what it takes—even if it means cooking lessons with the boy with the bread.
“I got it,” I assure him. Peeta nods, going back to checking on the stew. “I think I’m messing up.”
Peeta turns to me. “You’re not. You two are just finding your rhythm. We’re all survivalists. Maybe not me; I always seem to need Katniss in one way or another. I do know that it does take awhile to become a team—to stop being a you and becoming an us.”
Jack rushes back into the room, sitting on my lap and gives me a bright smile. “Goosey’s fed.”
“Thank you for helping, Jack,” I say and kiss the top of his head. “You’re going to have to help me out. I’m still learning to be a good dad.”
“You were always a good dad, Haymitch,” Peeta tells me. “After all, you practically raised me and Katniss.”
I manage to chuckle. “I’m not sure if it that’s a good thing or a bad thing.”
I’ll never admit that they are a good thing. They happened when I needed them the most.
However, Johanna and Lulu—they are the best things in my life.
++++++
“I may not always love you
But long as there are stars above you
You never need to doubt it
I'll make you so sure about it
God only knows what I'd be without you…”
Lulu stares up at me with those large doe eyes and something squeezes in my chest. Before Abie and Lulu, I always kind of scoffed seeing the way Katniss’ eyes lit up whenever she was around Jack.
But now, seeing Lulu looking at me, trying to smile as I sing causes something to stir inside.
It’s this hopeless devotion to her—and I gladly allow myself to love her. Love her enough for the family that was never able to meet her, both on my side and Haymitch’s.
“I didn’t know you were a singer.”
I find Haymitch leaning against the doorway, arms crossed and grinning at us.
“I’m not, but it seems to calm her down,” I tell him.
“Lunch is ready,” he informs me. “You need to eat.”
“I know, but I’m not ready to leave her just yet.”
Haymitch joins us, looking down at this little ham of a girl. “Wow. We made her.”
I chuckle. “Pretty cool of us.”
“We have to be better for her,” he says suddenly. “Better than we were for ourselves.”
“Yes. I agree.” Lulu’s eyes begin to flutter. “There are no Hunger Games and I’m not in the Capitol whoring my way through Snow’s elite. Sometimes I forget—or just become afraid that it will happen again.”
Haymitch puts an arm around my shoulders, pulling me close.
“We wouldn’t let that happen,” he assures me. “All of Victors, the ones that are alive, will never let anything like that happen. If it did, I would protect you and Lulu.”
“We will protect each other.”
Haymitch’s eyes warm at my words and in one breath, he kisses me gently.
“I almost forgot what that felt like,” I say as we pull apart.
He smirks. “You should be kissed more often.”
“That’s how Lulu happened.”
“True.” He rests back against the wall behind us. “We’re going to get through all this. One day, she’s going to be running circles around us and we’re going to miss her just like this.”
“Hopefully, I get my body back by then,” I snort. “I feel like I’m nothing but tits and milk.”
Haymitch eyes my chest. “Not like I don’t appreciate a full pair, but you just look uncomfortable.”
“Nobody informed me about the wonders of a breast pump. Katniss is having her mother send one here. Maybe then I won’t feel like my primary function is milk machine and I can actually get some rest.”
For a moment, we sit in content silence. Never in my life did I think I would be a mother. However, Lulu is here, real and a fresh as can be, smelling like hope and freedom. She is all things that are good about me, the parts of me that I never even thought I had.
And, she’s all mine.
My hand fits into Haymitch’s and he gives me a gentle smile.
He is mine.
“You know what the most annoying part about all of this?” Haymitch says suddenly and I raise a brow in question. “We’re getting advice from Katniss and Peeta.”
“Yeah, that’s really irritating,” I retort. “The worst part is that most of their advice is valid.”
Haymitch snorts. “Maybe for them. We’ll come up with our own ways.”
I yawn, resting back against him. “In time.”
Soon, we sleep.
++++++
Peeta turns to me, Abie is his arms.
“I don’t think we need to check on them.”
Jack rushes up to Haymitch’s door, knocking loudly. “Hay-me! Jo!”
“It’s too late now.” I join our son on the porch. “Jack has already created all kind of ruckus.”
However, I am surprised when no one comes to the door. Twisting the knob, the door opens easily; not surprising as we’ve never bothered to lock our doors.
“Hello?” I call out.
The sitting room is still in pristine condition from earlier. Peeta sets off into the kitchen to look in.
“No one is there,” he tells me.
Jack rushes up the stairs in search of Haymitch and Johanna and I scramble up behind him; he’s only started to master stairs. He toddles to the nursery, peeking in, before running the opposite way to Haymitch’s room.
“Mama, yook!” He points into the open doorway of Haymitch’s room.
“Please don’t be naked…” I whisper, crossing my fingers, before joining him and taking a breath before looking in.
Johanna and Haymitch are fast asleep, in-between them is a snoozing Lulu, arms up over her head.
I struggle to hide my laugh as Haymitch is sleeping the exact same way.
Picking Jack up, I put my index finger to my lips.
“It’s nap time for them so we have to be very quiet.”
Jack nods in agreement, wrapping his arms around my neck.
We go down the stairs, finding Peeta and Abie waiting for us.
I give them both a smile. “They’re asleep.”
Together, we head out the front door and head down the steps toward our home.
Peeta lets out a sigh of relief. “Maybe now we can get a decent night’s sleep.”
Then, Abie lets out a wail.
 FIN.
Lulu’s actual name, Louisa, means “renowned warrior” while Abner (Abie) means “father of light”. Their names feel appropriate for having Victor parents.

A New Hope || Lucas & Layla
timing: Sometime last week (5/17- 5/22) parties: @lucastheunlucky & @laylacooke summary: Luke invites Layla over for blanket tents, snacks, and Disney movies.  warnings: Prepare yo-self for this cuteness! ♥
Luke felt terrible about not really introducing himself to Layla before, even if he had literally just got out of the hospital and had a lot on his mind after his attack. But Luke was an extremely caring person and sent her a text inviting her over to his apartment which was equipped to the nines with security to keep them safe. Luke had a plan for tonight, equal parts to combat his boredom and, also, as a peace offering to a calm night for the other. On the couch, he had a short stack of clean lines, clothesline, pins, and various objects to aid in his vision of camping indoors. When he heard the buzz from downstairs he ran over and rang her in, opening his door he waited for her to come up. Offering a crooked smile at seeing her. “Are you picky with snacks? Cause guess what--” he let her into his apartment. “We literally have twenty different kinds.” He laughed.
Layla had been hesitant about answering Luke’s text. The wolf pack meeting hadn’t exactly been what she had expected, and while she had stayed in her own corner most of the night, it seemed like no one had cared to reach out, and with Salva being there, had only made things worse. But she had played fault in such a bad experience, and in hopes of showing one of her fellow wolves that she wasn’t as bad as she seemed, she had decided to accept his offer. As soon as he opened the door, Layla let a small smile drift over her sad features, “Hey, and uh...if you’ve got any vegan options...if not, it’s totally cool.” She eased inside upon being invited in. Luke’s apartment was homely, and it felt like a safe space to be in. Something she could imagine having someday, if she could ever get her life in order, “Cute place.” Walking over towards a nearby wall, she stood quietly waiting for his lead.
“I mean junk food, so hopefully that’s okay,” he chuckled, showing the actual pile of snacks like Lucas had robbed a few vending machines. “I never get to eat bad, so it’s a treat.” Lucas poured them some drinks, offering lemonade, water, or iced tea. “So, first impressions weren’t the best, but listen-- I’m sorry. I couldn’t entirely focus on anything else. The nice thing about having a few of us around means we can all take care of each other now. Rotate, take when we need too, give when we can. It will balance out.” Lucas seemed sure of it, coming from a place where his family always felt like a pack before they left.
“No, it’s perfectly fine. I’m sure there’s something.” Layla looked at the pile of snacks. It was a lot, but it had been kind of him offering up all the treats for them to share. “I think, since being with Ari, Celeste, and Ulfric, it’s the first time, in a long time, that I’ve been able to eat good. What do you think you’ll eat first?” She looked back to the pile spotting some almonds and sunflower seeds. She had found her snacks. “I’ll go with water. Thanks.” She moved over towards the pile and pulled out a few packs of nuts and seeds. Listening to him talk about the pack, she could see how much of a family they were. She had hoped to eventually navigate her way in, but right now, she had felt like the outsider of the bunch. “And you don’t have to apologize. I know I wasn’t very friendly. I just still sorta feel like the outsider and being around a bunch of people makes me nervous, especially when I don’t know most of them, and one of them is a complete douche.” She paused, “Salva’s the douche...to clarify…”
Lucas chuckled, grabbing three different bags of chips, and plopping right on the floor in the living room. “Well, this is new for everyone. I’m not used to even existing for people to care about. I only just got my brother back. So, it’s alright to feel weird--” he paused, realizing he used the same description word Regan always used. “Not weird,” he corrected. “Just, different. Change is always going to be a ride.” He felt a little affection over her explain who the douche was at the get together. “Everyone has a variety of experiences to shape them. Sometimes the ones who are the meanest, and the loudest are the ones who are the loneliest in the group. We’re all a bit messed up, we gotta make do. Try to live. I hope that for you too.” Lucas sighed a little, trying to believe his own words, which would be a challenge, but he was determined. “So, think we can make a tent in here without further injuring ourselves?”
If Layla was going to make the most of hanging out and getting to know Lucas, she knew she needed to lighten up. Her mind had been so clouded with darkness lately that it was hard to be happy and cheerful, even during Ariana’s adventures in pie making. But she was tired of being sad. Tired of feeling alone. And tired of just being. Without second guessing herself, the young wolf took a seat on the floor next to Lucas, “I get everybody’s going through their own drama. Throwing a moody baby wolf at everyone is probably the last thing on anyone’s mind, especially since there’s talk of...murdering a man?” She still wasn’t entirely sure what that was about, and did she really want to know? Looking to the stack of sheets and stuff needed to make a tent, Layla pondered the idea, before looking down to her red cast. “You know what?” She looked back to Lucas, “If someone can get a group of furry, full moon worshiping dogs together in one room, how hard could it be to put up a tent on our own?” It couldn’t be that hard, right?
“No murdering,” Lucas lied. “And you don’t have to worry about this particular hunter, ever. But, I’m here for you in the capacity I can be, alright.” He bumped her shoulder. “Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.” A cheesy smile spread easily on Lucas, looking up at the banister leading to his loft bed. “Maybe, we can connect it there first with ties? That way we know for sure one corner will be pretty secure.” Luke said all this in between chips. “Climbing that ladder has been a feat, let me go up and you can try to feed them to me.” Rolling up, he made his way up to the loft, using only one arm to hull up and balance on it. This is probably why Miles wanted him at his cabin. “Okay, I can sorta reach you, heh. Can you get the sheet up?”
She didn’t know if he was lying or not, but she also didn’t want to get wrapped up in anything. Layla had already found herself in enough trouble. The shoulder bump brought a soft smile to her face and made her feel accepted, “Thanks. I know you don’t really know me, but the same goes for you too.” Looking up to the banister and back to Lucas, she nodded, “Yeah, we’ll make this work.” Getting up, she watched as he maneuvered up to the loft. Layla grabbed the blanket off the couch and carefully climbed up the latter, so she could pass it over to him, “What do you need next?” This was going to be a task at hand, especially considering how weak she had been, but she wanted this. She needed something fun and silly.
Lucas took the blanket and tied a knot on the bottom of the banister, letting the rest hang down. “Let’s maybe knot a few on the other end by you? That way we can drape it over some chairs or something? Luke pondered cutely, poking his cheek and pursing his lips, “yeah, maybe, the sheet instead of another blanket so it’s not too heavy. You got that?” He asked, securing a few more knots on the banister so when they pulled on it or it had more weight, it wouldn’t unravel. “Also, I haven’t done this since I was like, nine, have you ever built a blanket tent before? I have three siblings, including Miles, and we’d always do stuff like this. But I’m having a blank moment remembering them.”
Layla did as he had requested making sure the knots, she tied, were good and secured. Ironically enough, one of the survivalist techniques her parents had drilled into her mind were various types of knots, and those skills were coming out as they worked on the blanket tent, “How does that look? I can tie it a different way, if you need me to.” She hadn’t really realized it, until he had said something about making blanket tents as a kid; something she had never actually experienced being an only child to werewolf hunters. But what she had learned how to do was set up tents, start fires, and basically survive in the wild if it didn’t involve hunting or killing things. Face fading into a blank stare at this realization, she replied to Lucas, “Yeah, I wouldn’t know. I can set up a real tent and teach you how to survive in the wild, until the cows come home, but typical childhood things, you might have to google, unless you like tea parties and The Little Mermaid…” She blinked a few times before looking over to him with a sad smile.
“No, shit-- that looks awesome, knew I called the right person, hehe,” he gave a cheesy grin, finishing up his work and jumping down the ladder to land gracefully on the ground. He stood up, tugging on the blankets, and sheets, opening them up little and seeing how far they would spread open. “I get that, some families don’t always give you everything you might need. This stupid shit? Playing? It’s so important to do, keeps you happy, reminds you of simple things like laughter. I’ll make sure you get lots of playtime in now and do fun stuff. I always have ideas.” He pet the back of her head affectionately, a motion that Lucas did with everyone to show he cared about them. It was always with a little scratching of his nails, and a rub with his thumb before he walked away. “I personally always like The Emperor's New Groove. Heh, just thinking about ‘LLLAMA FACEEEE-- ahh haha, get’s me rolling every time.” Luke started pushing the couch closer to the sheets with his shoulder and grabbing some chairs so they can lift the other end up.
She smiled when she noticed the cheesy grin, he had given her. At least her hunting techniques had paid off somehow, and, in the best way, because no one would get hurt, “I might have to take a picture of this when we’re finished. Show Ari my first blanket tent.” It was weird to think she could still play at eighteen, but the thought comforted her, especially knowing that Lucas was just as willing to keep her young at heart. Feeling him pet the back of her head had startled her slightly, but when she felt the affection, the teenager closed her eyes for the briefest of moments taking in the ease of the situation and cherishing the opportunity he had given her to just be a kid. When the moment had passed, she turned her attention back on Lucas, “Do you know how to walk the Llama, Llama?” Layla could feel herself letting her guard down; a feeling she had long since forgotten. Realizing what he was doing, the red-head moved to help him, “This is gonna be pretty awesome when we’re done with it. Thanks for inviting me, Luke.” She looked over at him with kindness in her eyes as she continued to help.
“Okay. It’s settled. We watch The Little Mermaid then The Emperor's New Groove tonight. And if it gets too late, another night,” Luke said easily, together the chairs secured the bottom half of the blanket canopy and stepping back it looked a bit of a mess in the loft space, but under it with the cushions off the couch and spare pillows and snack— it was pretty neat. He plopped on his back and stared up, his arm resting on his chest and enjoyed it for a moment. “You’re welcome,” he said with quiet delivery. “Squeeze in, let’s take one ugly selfie to mark our success—“he pulled out his phone and angled it badly. He was already laughing but tried to squish his chin and make a silly, bad face for the picture.
“Deal.” This was one of the best moments Layla had had since coming to White Crest. Everything with Ariana and Celeste had been special, but this was different. She felt like it was just a normal moment of not trying to fit in or act the way a werewolf should. She was genuinely starting to feel good about herself and the moment she was having with Luke. Finding her place under the tent, she settled in. Laughing and shaking her head, she gave into his request, and made the funniest face she could think of. “Can you send that to me?” She grabbed a pack of sunflower seeds and laid back down onto one of the pillows staring up at the top of the tent, “How are you feeling?”
“Mhmm--” he texted her quickly and showed that it was now in fact her picture for when she called. Lucas actually giggled a little, finding it quite amusing with their silly faces. He rolled up and sat crossed legged. “I’m still pretty tired, but that’s understandable. I don’t know if people told you about that, but you need to be eating well to heal up well. Or, that’s what my mom used to say. Calories, sugars, good fats, all needed and what not to speed up the process.” Lucas knew that question could mean the other half of that same coin involving him, so he added. “I’m hanging on--” he chuckled a little. “I’m way tougher than I let people know about. It’s my secret power. Being able to get back up even if it’s hard and hurts.” He opened a new box of treats and pulled out some fruit roll ups. “Hmm, have you tested your strength much yet?”
Layla couldn’t help but laugh when she had seen what Lucas had done with the picture. It was the first one she had taken since coming to White Crest, and it was one she would cherish. Even though she hadn’t really known him when Ari had clued her in on what had happened, she had still felt bad. She hated seeing people in pain or hurting. It’s why she had made the world’s worst hunter, “I’ve been told. I just haven’t really felt like eating lately. Ari’s been making me Beyond Burgers, and I like the veggie burritos from Veggie Tables, but my appetite just isn’t there. I’m glad to hear that you’re doing a little better though, and I’m sorry I haven’t been much help in terms of...whatever is supposed to happen. It must be a nice power to have, but don’t forget to take care of yourself.” She poured a few sunflower seeds out of the packet she had grabbed earlier and popped them in her mouth, “I punched a tree…” She held up her hand with the cast, “Does that count?” The tree seemed to have won though, but she had left a rut in it the size of her fist.
“Nope,” he popped the ‘p’ dramatically, but Luke showed in his expression that he really did understand it. He’s been there. Being a teenager once with hormones and the change happening, he’d hit things until they were dented, and he was left bleeding. “Miles and I are pretty good on regimen things. You saw my brother, right? We got strength training on lock. If you want to learn your limits, you call on us. I’m working with Simon too, we’re going to be a strong ass pack, right? We gotta show off our muscles, hehe,” he chuckled while rolling the fruit roll up into a ball. “Also, you don’t always have to be the one giving help ya know? It’s okay. It will always balance out if your heart is there for it.”
“I used to do some things back when life wasn’t all...Who am I kidding, it’s always been fucked up. Are you guys meeting up at a gym or something? Maybe once this thing is off my arm…” She held up the hand and arm that was dressed in a brace and shook it, “I can join you, and learn how to take out my rage in a healthier manner.” She ate a few more seeds, “I’ve got a little muscle.” Layla sat down the pack of sunflower seeds and flexed her tiny little muscle with a sheepish grin spreading across her face. It wasn’t much, but she was proud of it. Picking her snack back up, she resumed eating, speaking in between bites, “I know. I guess I just feel like if I suppress my problems enough and help other people, what I’m feeling will eventually just go away. Out of sight, out of mind sorta deal.” She knew it wasn’t healthy, but that’s where her head and her heart currently remained.
“I hear that all the time from others. It doesn’t go away. Sucks big time, I know,” Lucas didn’t want them to fall into bad thoughts together. It was easy for him to feel awful enough to contemplate the worst of things. “We’ll show you. It will forever be difficult for you though. Just know that and own it. You will get better; I can’t imagine you getting worse.” He laughed a little, to keep the mood light. “But all our training is outdoors. We climb rocks and run in the woods. Push boulders and jump from big heights. It's the best form of training. You will find something primal about it. Or I hope so.” He rolled on the side and pulled his laptop over and scrolled through Disney + in hopes the Little Mermaid was on there. “Come on, let’s chill.” He yanked a soft blanket over and a big pillow.
She appreciated his honesty. The last thing Layla had needed was for everything to be sugar coated, “Thanks for being honest. I really do appreciate it. And believe it or not, I can take a hit. Outdoor training sounds great actually, and I’m kinda looking forward to just the release of it all.” She finished off her sunflower seeds and chased them with a drink of water. Finding a cozy spot next to Lucas, she settled in. Whether it was The Little Mermaid, Emperor’s New Groove, or whatever, she was just glad to be doing something normal. Something that didn’t make her feel like it was fight or flight, and as she looked over at Lucas, Layla took in every part of this moment, so she could look back on it, when she felt sad the next time.

FULL NAME: Tapeesa ‘Timber’ Wilde
APPEARANCE: 6’2, and by virtue of her height is the second tallest Xiaolin Dragon (second only to Clay, and even then it’s pretty close).
Floofy blonde hair. It is usually worn long but it is currently cut short with parts of it dyed forget-me-not blue. Tan skin. Brown almond-shaped eyes. Often wears a black toque/beanie, and has a taste for punk, grungy, and “woodsy” type fashions like leather jackets, plaid, distressed denim, etc.
Current outfit is as follows: Long sleeve black shirt with Canadian maple leaf design. Plaid overshirt. Ripped jeans, black socks and black boots. Fingerless black gloves. Single piercing on her nose, multiple piercings in her ears, and a forest green jacket with brown fur lining on the hood. Jacket is designed to make the wearer look like a wolf. This is Timber’s trademark jacket and her most recognizable article of clothing.
GENDER/SEXUALITY: Female. Pansexual. Polyamorous and proud.
PRONOUNS: She/Her/Hers
ETHNICITY: Mixed race - her mother is an Inuk woman from Labrador, and her father was an Irish-Canadian man from Newfoundland.
BIRTHPLACE/BIRTHDATE: Born and raised in the province of Newfoundland, Canada on November 2nd, 2003. Scorpio. 16 going on 17.
GUILTY PLEASURES: Cigarettes. Food. Weed. Food. Sneaking into places she shouldn’t. Food. Saucy reading materials. Food. Pretty girls. Food. Feisty boys. Food. Abusing her powers to be lazy, get what she wants and take shortcuts. Food. Loud music. Food. Singing. Food. Sneaking out at night. Food. Petty vandalism. Food. Street hockey. Food. Regular hockey. Food. Skateboarding. Food. Tagging property with her own unique brand of art. Food. Cute dogs. Food. Taking lots and lots of selfies and candid photos, as photography is her biggest passion and addiction ALSO FOOD DID I MENTION FOOD YET BECAUSE THAT’S A BIG ONE SHE IS ALWAYS HUNGRY
QUIRKS: Constantly takes photos. Constantly gets distracted. Constantly wanders off. Bites her lip when she is anxious or about to lie. Takes great pride in her hair and prior to her forced haircut took good care of it and grew it out long, thick and messy. Her wild hair is a trademark of hers and she doesn’t like people touching it or doing anything to it.
Is well known for having a nervous tic in the form of shaking hands. She claims it’s due to bad medication - and may even in fact believe her own lie - but in reality, it’s completely psychological in nature, due to her undiagnosed PTSD and trauma from a formative life event when she was 8 years old. It is always present, worsens under stress, and at times affects her motor skills so intensely that she cannot tie her shoes or pick up a spoon. It is a great insecurity of hers and she does her best to hide it.
TRIGGERS: Mentions of her family, being called “crazy” and being near the ocean or on water.
FUN FACTS:
When visiting a new place, Timber will build or draw an inukshuk and take a photo of it to commemorate the occasion. She has been doing this since she was small, and she continues this ritual in honor of the loved one who taught her how to do this.
Her real name Tapeesa means “arctic flower” in the Inuktituk language, but most people know her as Timber. Earned the nickname ‘Timber’ from her father when she made a tree fall as a young girl due to her Wood elemental powers revealing themselves. Answers only to the name ‘Timber’ in his memory.
Really loves blueberries. She likes all food and eats like a starving animal but she gravitates to blueberries and blueberry flavored things. Her trademark favorite food though is blueberry pancakes with blueberry jam, as per her father’s recipe.
COLORS: Blue and Green
ANIMAL SYMBOLISM: Moths 🦋
PHOBIAS: Several, actually.
Going home.
Losing the one “friend” she has.
Being alone for the rest of her life.
Being an outcast for the rest of her life.
Not being able to fulfill her deal to Sun and complete the one mission that has kept her going for YEARS.
Being open and honest and vulnerable with other people.
Trusting other people.
Other people.
But the one thing she fears more than anything else is the ocean. Deep water in general makes her very uncomfortable and she slowly loses it when in close proximity to beaches, docks, and boats. She. HATES. Being on water.
And she has every reason to hate it.
WHAT SHE WOULD BE FAMOUS FOR: Timber Wilde is the first Dragon of Wood in centuries, a “Wilde” card that even Wuya herself was not aware of before she made herself known. And due to the complicated history of the Xiaolin Dragons and the Dragons of Wood, that alone is more than enough to have everyone from the Xiaolin to the Heylin hunting her down. Inexperienced in actual combat, but with enough raw power and natural talent that exceeds even Raimundo and Omi’s Shoku-level abilities, Timber Wilde is cunning, powerful, creative, and above all, unpredictable.
Timber Wilde is also currently the owner of the Crown of the Monkey King, the most dangerous Shen Gong Wu in existence. What’s more, she is also the faithful and long-suffering servant, student and sometimes host of the evil that resides in it.
Along with her traveling companions, Jack Spicer, the reluctant Dragon of Metal, and Jermaine Thompson, the kung-fu prodigy that was trained by Chase Young himself, Timber Wilde currently travels the world in an ongoing journey, keeping her secrets close, her “enemies” closer, and searching for a way to free her master in exchange for her one and only chance to rectify the greatest failure of her life.
She will do whatever it takes to reach this goal. Even if she has to burn down the whole world to do it. After all...a deal’s a deal, right?
WHAT THEY WOULD GET ARRESTED FOR:
Theft. Arson. Disturbing the peace. Possession and underage usage of tobacco products and marijuana. General teenage mayhem. Destruction of property. Aggravated assault. Vandalism and trespassing.
...Treason.
WHO DO YOU SHIP THEM WITH: Timber is polyamorous and has a lot of romantic potential with a few different characters. I feel like she’d be happiest in a polyamorous triad with Jack Spicer as one of her lifelong partners due to how well they connect and compliment each other, but jury’s still out on who would best complete their OT3.
She’s 100 percent into nerds tho. Nerds and angry types and red hair and blue eyes. All she wants is to be topped by someone smarter than her. She just needs a feisty bookworm who can put her in her place and teach her things.
CHARACTER MOST LIKELY TO KILL THEM: Everyone is out to get Timber but sadly her worst enemy is in her own head. Literally. He’s in her HEAD.
FAVORITE BOOK/MOVIE GENRE: Historical/documtary type stuff because she’s hungry for knowledge of the world outside her small seaside town, but she also has a secret soft spot for shojo mangas and saucy romance books.
LEAST FAVORITE MOVIE/BOOK CLICHE: Sad endings, or stories where the dog dies.
TALENTS/POWERS: As the Dragon Of Wood, Timber Wilde has power over every form of plant life, and once again she’s nearly above Shoku level with her abilities. In addition to manipulating and accelerating plant growth, she can also....
Gift plants with sentience and speech,
Use pollen and scents to confuse, manipulate, charm or take out foes,
Create bioluminescent plants and fungi
Create armor for herself from plants
Use plants for camouflage, disguise, defense or offense
Create her own food source
And much more.
But the most important skill as Dragon of Wood she has is, above all, her healing abilities.
With the power to use the medicinal properties in her plants to heal almost any wound or illness, Timber Wilde’s healing powers make her invaluable in battle.
She also has learned one more technique from Sun, one that allows her to “borrow” another person’s power for her own.
But we can discuss that later.
WHY SOMEONE MIGHT LOVE THEM: Despite her many flaws, Timber Wilde isn’t that bad of a person. Deep down underneath her tough, nihilistic, cold exterior, she’s just a sweet, silly, mischief making teenager who just needs and wants a friend. She is a dreamer. She is an artist. Though she has long since lost faith in people she still has an eye for beauty and finds it everywhere in the world around her. She thirsts for adventure and wants to live life to the fullest and experience everything the unknown has to offer.
At her best, Timber Wilde is a lively, incredible, inspiring soul who is passionately devoted to everything and everyone she loves. She will go to the ends of the earth for anything and anyone she cares about, even if it costs her her own life.
WHY SOMEONE MIGHT HATE THEM: Timber Wilde is a deeply complicated person who has a lot of inner pain and fears. And like a certain other redhead, these feelings cause her to lash out at the world around her in less than ideal ways.
Timber lies. Timber keeps secrets. Timber can get very defensive when you poke past the casual front she tries to keep up and start asking her real questions. She has a loose sense of morals, and a survivalist mindset. She doesn’t reach out to other people. She doesn’t trust other people. In fact, the only person she puts her faith in is an evil entity trapped within the Shen Gong Wu she wears on her head. And because of his influence, her view of reality is severely warped.
She genuinely believes she has no real place in this world amongst other people. She genuinely believes everyone is out to get her and that everyone disappoints each other eventually and to make yourself vulnerable or to have faith in others is to invite hurt and heartbreak. And despite the fact that she holds her own needs and desires above everyone else’s, she thinks very, very lowly of herself.
She cannot forgive herself for past mistakes. She cannot let go of what’s already gone. She blames herself for the fate of her family and the untimely demise of the most important person in her life and this has taken a severe emotional and mental toll on her. And due to this loss, she has ONE goal in life that she chases after with all her heart and soul, and the way she tunnel visions in on her mission often means she leaves others to the wayside, though not always without guilt or regret.
Timber is....complicated. Like a wildfire, she burns and burns and burns, and each and every day she burns a little more out of control than before.
But fires don’t burn because they want to hurt people. Fires burn because they don’t know how else to keep from going out.
Timber Wilde knows her actions have consequences. But seeing no better options, she forces herself not to care. She lies to everyone, including herself.
HOW THEY CHANGE: Spoilers.
But I think a certain someone, or two certain someones, can help her change.
Power of friendship, baby.
Why You Love Them: Because she fulfills several of my wishes for what I wanted to see in Xiaolin Showdown.
A) She’s a female character
B) She’s a female XIAOLIN character
C) She is or will be a true blue ally and supportive friend to Jack Spicer, a boy who desperately needs friends
D) She’s a Dragon Of Wood and
E) She is a girl with grit who gets swept up into a magical life changing adventure

Question for fellow neurodivergents
tw/ mental health, depression, disassociation, random stresses, idk.
tw/ I’m living 24/7 triggered lately and that’s in the post and looking for some temporary work arounds.
To begin: I’m diagnosed ASD, but generally just not... IDK, in the community, largely because my mother refused to believe anything was “wrong” with her child and summarily I was too “high functioning” (yes I know it’s a bad term, that’s the point) to be a problem, then after that life propelled me through a bunch of survivalist trauma But you know, “nothing can be wrong with my kid, she’s too smart, she tested 5th grade level in kindergarten! Collegiate level in everything by THIRD GRADE! hurDUrHeHURRR.” Just shove the kid through speech therapy to get rid of related impediments and it’s fine right?!
Eventually I got into a better situation and self managed efficiently, because Alabama barely has health care much less knowing how to treat a 30-something year old woman falling apart with a rare connective tissue disorder and autism still seen as a conversion-worthy disorder (or you know, my gayness, but hey) -- yet again, now I’m too high functioning haha autism sure whatever everybody’s autistic these days or would you like extreme approaches, these are your choices.
That said, while waiting for my engine to be repaired, I’m trapped in a situation that’s persistently rubbing against my PTSD triggers (from the survivalism period) even if theoretically benign but alternately constantly being talked at, more than to. My options are “old lady constantly talking a cycle about death, pain, hospitals, and more death and pain, even when I’m trying to silently put cereal in my face” or “in laws that mean well but don’t understand I literally can not hold conversations for 2 consecutive hours much less 8 when we escape there and they keep trying to engage me about arbitrary topics and seem disappointed that I’m not engaging.”
And I get it she’s lonely and she hurts and I feel awful but I literally don’t know what to do with an endless battery of negativity. Even trying to reroute her onto something nice like, I dunno, dogs inevitably loops back to death somehow. And for reasons above and below I am not emotionally equipped to deal with a constant negative waterfall running like I put it on ListenOnRepeat. And even if, IF you manage to break the death loop for any period of time there’s general patience levels when she shuffles around her kitchen refusing to sit down and let us get anything while she fusses over her milk going bad for an hour. Or about whatever other little thing. Until she self breaks that loop and goes back to death and pain.
Sometimes it’s “I can’t die until I do my paperwork” that is actually null paperwork her son already handled but she won’t listen and has shuffled the same paperwork for three years. I’m fairly certain this woman talks to Death every night but in her mental scape scoots around in her stroller telling him to hold on while she finishes her paperwork and somehow cons him into standing outside holding wires to put up her hummingbird feeders for the bees in October at midnight until he decides to come back another day before he hears about her milk or oxycodone again. And I know that makes me sound callous but goddamn
I really don’t have anywhere to go and simply be quiet right now. If I hide in the basement with aforementioned old lady she opens the door, risks letting the cats and dogs out, generally inserts herself, bangs things around upstairs and sets off my hyperreactivity, or just outright calls us up to do things for her that she doesn’t actually let us do for her and instead starts talking about pain and death again, generally while overworking me. I’ve repeatedly blown my hip in progressively worsening stages from my connective tissue problems in the two weeks I’ve been here, and get zero empathy despite attempted explanations that I can’t jog up and down steep 1950s stairs for her all day. Hell, I can barely climb them a few times.
Perhaps I should clarify my survivalist life cycle began with my mother taking too much oxy, and then being cut down and she snapped; pain grandmother mcgee refused to enter proper end of life care and has been taking too much oxy, and they’re weaning her down and she’s in the same withdrawls pattern; after that I migrated to an equally bad situation where I got trapped and efforts to escape backfired and turned into quite literal 10 year battlezone of survival that I still have scars and wounds from that will never heal -- how that connects to my current breakdown situation, you can figure out. All that stacked together into one big ball of FUCK YOU defines my base line of 24-7 right now much less all other irritants.  Like it stacks both chapters of my life going down an increasingly violent toilet bowl that was outside of my control into one aggressive old woman who temporarily controls my life.
That all said, even when we go to the “safe zone” of the inlaws, by the end of the night I am surrounded by eternal buzzing of conversation and expectations. Even if they aren’t talking to me specifically (after I’ve spent hours desperately trying to stay plugged in) it’s like having a fly bounce off my face repeatedly with the eternal buzzing of conversation I feel the need to try to pay attention to. But with loops of death and pain and my own actual real pain and eternal buzzing, endless buzzing, requirements of conversation, no quiet places, no place to be safe, feeling caged and rubbing related PTSD triggers, I’ve disassociated into some pretty dark mental loops lately.
Like I’m missing the days when I knew an area well enough to find the right park to disappear into the woods of and hide under a bridge there or something and just sit there and disappear for a while. Not that I can really motor around well enough to do that now anyway.
It took me a while to add up WHY this batshit crazy 88 year old woman was doing such a number on me since I’ve literally had my life burn down and people I love die and just packed up and kept soldiering on while barely blinking, but I recently put it together and there’s the big ball of FUUUUUUUUUCK NO WONDER but now that I KNOW it I still can’t figure out how to situationally FIX the other stressers that keep compounding the neverending PTSD+stress loop.
Bonus points just to put icing on the shitcake, I used to smoke a pack of cigarettes a day. I converted to vaping, then to low mil vaping. Guess who banned vaping inside? Guess who gets magically spotted any time I step out? Guess who is living in an eternal nic fit on top of this and has regressed a year of quitting to just about eat cigarettes when I get five minutes of peace, and yet despite my best efforts of eating them in desperation, have taken a solid week per pack, because that’s how little time I have to myself, despite outright chain smoking at the inlaws, I’m not even kidding. (Guess who is rebelliously vaping at midnight in said basement since it smells like candy and I know her ass is unconscious and won’t pop open the goddamn door)
“Seek treatment” is sort of pointless where I live, lemme put that out there now, especially since I’m yet again trying to leave the state in a few days.
But does anyone have any particular stim methods or... anti-stim for that matter that can help in this sort of situation to just decompress my eternal overload turning into hardcore shut down? I’m not nonverbal but by about 7-8PM these days I *become* nonverbal. Before I run out of metaphorical spoons in the morning I’m still myself, if with my awkward social function, but by 8PM it’s like someone’s wired my jaw shut or disconnected TalkerBox.Exe or unplugged something because even with all the thoughts in the world, I literally can not will my mouth to move anymore, and that’s... not normal for me. Talking-reserved, sure. Quiet, sure. Mouth welded shut like I’m Neo in the matrix, not so much.
I just need something that can last me through like, 3 days to sort of find my old ways of having quiet places even if I can’t have quiet places. Suggestions?
---
As a bit of a side I wonder if this is also a bit of class upset going on. Said 88 year old woman who is now all but financially broke was the lower-upper class wife of a lobbyist banker that used to work with Jeff Sessions and pretty much got him in office, but Sessions dropped the family like a hot potato when said husband died, so my “fighting for food scraps from the trash, working from 14 to support my disabled mother, cyclically homeless” gay liberal ass is squatting with a bitter former upper class southern lady republican woman turned deadass senile and I C A N T

[ALEX FITZALAN, CISMALE, HE/HIM] have you seen TERRENCE BRADDOCK-KENNEDY around sedona? TERRENCE is a CRIMINAL JUSTICE MAJOR AT SCC, but they're also THE LEADER in the sedona sleuths, so you've probably seen them around the firehouse shed. they're known for being ADVENTUROUS and CHARMING, but they're also known to be NAIVE and IMMATURE. when they're not at the shed, i can usually find them at JENNY'S. i can always recognize them by their (high school yearbook filled to the brim with signatures, conspiracy board with red yarn, old photos hung up that refuse to be taken down, bag that's never been cleaned out, shouting loudly about demons in the local diner).
Tumblr media
[ THE LEADER: This role is the glue of the group, the one who holds everything together. They’re probably the planner and organizer, and the one to say, “Let’s split up!” Their role has emerged naturally over time. ]
STATS
Name: Terrence Braddock-Kennedy
Age: 21
Gender: Cismale
Pronouns: He/him
Sexuality: Pansexual
Personality Type: ENFJ
SCC Major: Criminal Justice
Jenny’s Diner Order: Cheeseburger deluxe w/ waffle fries and a rootbeer float
Similar characters: Fred Jones, Jake Peralta, Steve Harrington, Dipper Pines, Michael Kelso, Fox Mulder
ABOUT
FULL BIO CAN BE FOUND HERE
Terrence’s grandfather, Stan, is the town crazy dude who has this weird cabin in the woods and believes in Moth Man. He’s a survivalist though, so his mom, Reggie, ended up being super into outdoorsy stuff. She’s now the local park ranger and will take people on hikes.
Reggie met Terrence’s other mom, Gemma (who is the local high school drama teacher), and they fell in love. Kansas ain’t that cool with lesbians though so they hadda go through some shit. They eventually adopted Terrence and his younger sister Ava & now they’re a happy family!
Terrence loved hearing conspiracy stuff and scary stories from his grandfather and his mom. He started loving mysteries because of it and started helping people around town with small tasks and unsolved things. He was super charming so everyone liked him as long as no one brought up his weird family or two moms.
He’s super nice to everyone and is always willing to help with anything. He’d drop whatever he was doing to lend a hand.
Eventually helped form the Sedona Sleuths and was deemed The Leader. He’s always coming up with the big plans and helping to keep everyone from killing each other. He loves his friends a lot and would legit die for any of them.
He can kind of be selfish and immature sometimes though without realizing it. He means well always it’s just that he’s a dumb boy.
Is going to SCC for criminal justice and wants to become a police officer or detective one day. He basically wants Grimley’s job and doesn’t plan on ever leaving town.
Whenever anyone in the group implies that they’re leaving after graduation he gets super angry about it. The idea of the group breaking up is one of his biggest fears. Terrence is afraid one day everyone is going to go away and he’s going to be the only one left.
HEADCANONS
His sister, Ava, is 16 and goes to the local high school. They’re super close and if anything ever happened to her he’s lose it.
Even though Terrence is adopted, he says he doesn’t really care about finding out who his real parents are. In reality though, he’s just afraid to find out. Change is something he doesn’t like and the idea of his world turning upside scares him.
He’s closest with his mom Reggie. They go hiking and camping together every weekend that it’s nice out. Ava is closer to Gemma, but the whole family gets along equally.
Stan Braddock is NUTS but Terrence loves his grandpa. He thinks he’s the coolest person in town. One time he tried to teach Terrence how to hunt though until they both gave up and just decided to go back to his cabin and eat baked beans.
Terrence is totally against dating within the group and will give people a hard time for it. His motto is “don’t shit where you eat.”
He carries a backpack around with him that he’s arguably had since 8th grade. it’s so worn out and the group is convinced he’s never cleaned it out. He’s never seen without that or his field journal.
Terrence’s room is covered with newspaper clippings about their cases, a cork board where he puts his latest conspiracy theory down, and a shit ton of polaroids of him and his friends.
In high school he ran track and got a scholarship to a pretty good university away from town, but turned it down. Everyone thought he was insane for doing it and his coach beat the shit out of him with his clipboard when he heard he didn’t take the offer to go to SCC.
His mom made him do the school plays in high school so he probably roped others in the group into doing it with him.
He drives a really nice car and it’s like the only thing he ever keeps clean.
Literally never sleeps. You can always find him at Jenny’s at like 3am drinking a milkshake and flipping through their latest case.
CONNECTIONS
ROMANTIC
ONE NIGHT STAND: Terrence is always preaching not to have relationships inside the group, which is why he had a full fledged freak out when he woke up hungover and naked next to this person. They’ve only hooked up once, but it was really fun. Terrence makes them swear to keep it a secret though for the sake of his credibility.
CRUSH: They grew up super close and are maybe even neighbors. Terrence constantly snuck over to their house in the middle of the night to hangout and talk on their roof. Terrence has a crush on them, and maybe they also feel the same way, but Terrence has made it clear that dating within the group can only go wrong. He hides his feelings for them, but he’s constantly laying awake at night thinking about them and there’s been a plethora of paragraph texts he’s sent to his confidant about how shiny their hair is. (taken by KARA)
CLUELESS CRUSH: The boy tends to unintentionally flirt with everyone so it’d not be a surprise if he accidentally caused someone in the group to develop a crush on him. He’d be really clueless that this person likes him and just assumes they’re really close friends. (taken by MILO)
FRIENDSHIP
BROS FOR LIFE: Typical bromance where they’re obnoxiously close. They’re unbashfully affectionate and people in the group probably had theories they might have been secretly dating at one point. They likely call each other “bro” and “babe” all these time & Terrence definitely has made them friendship bracelets. If they ever take them off then you know it’s a serious argument.
THE UNOFFICIAL 5TH BRADDOCK-KENNEDY MEMBER: Maybe someone with a bad family situation that would always come over to The Braddock-Kennedy house growing up? His moms are really cool and they’re all for taking kids when they’re in need. Terrence definitely tried to kick the shit out of whoever was making them show up to his house in tears a few times, but they talked him out of it. (taken by ELISE and DREW)
CHAOTIC STUPID: These two are responsible and okay by themselves, but when you put them together it’s pure chaotic energy. They probably go along with Terrence’s occasional not-so-smart plans while everyone else is screaming at them to not. The group can’t let them sit together anywhere or else the two won’t get any work done. Terrence refers to them as his second in command. (taken by NICK)
PINKY AND THE BRAIN: Terrence is kind of a himbo at times so I’d love him to have a best friend/ close friend that recognizes he’s an idiot, but loves him anyway. He makes them absolutely bonkers and roll their eyes constantly. They can drag him all they want, but as soon as someone else says shit about him then they’re swingin’. (taken by LEO)
CONFIDANT: Terrence goes to them for everything. They somehow have been cursed with receiving his 3am phone calls about his latest case breakthroughs, conspiracies, or about the person he has feelings for. They always take his calls anyway and know all his secrets. Terrence trusts all his friends but something about them makes him run to them first. (taken by NADINE)
NEGATIVE
COCKBLOCK: Two people that had/have strong feelings for each other and either dated or almost dated that Terrence completely WIGGED OUT on when he found out. He made the whole thing super dramatic and guilted them both into breaking up or to not pursue each other. There’s still some bad blood there that might eventually come to a head. This can also be added on to another connection.
TOXIC FRIENDSHIP: Someone that has expressed leaving Sedona after graduation and Terrence is NOT happy about it. They’re super close and Terrence absolutely makes it clear that he’d pull an immature move and not talk to them ever again if they leave. Whenever the subject is brought up Terrence suddenly gets really angry, but he doesn’t realize how toxic he’s really being. He means well, he’s just immature. This can also be added on to another connection.
RIVALS: Terrence doesn’t have a lot of people that dislike him, but these two can’t seem to stop fighting. The guy doesn’t NOT like the other though. In fact, he kind of finds their bickering endearing (even if they do question his authority constantly). Terrence will sometimes pick fights with them when he’s bored and some people in their group are even convinced it’s flirting. Terrence claims they’re frenemies, the other other claims he’s a pain in the ass, and the Sleuths all have a pool to when they’re both going to finally just make out. (taken by MAXINE)

The summer semester is ending and the prep for fall has started. It’s only a few short weeks until the 2019-2020 academic year begins. We’ll have a full cohort of students back on campus. The lines for coffee will be never ending and a free parking space will be nowhere to be found. Life will definitely get more exciting.
Libraries staff has pulled together a full list of books that cover a whole range of areas. Some books are for our graduating students wondering what comes next. Some books are to help new incoming students start the year successfully.  Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: an inquiry into values by Robert M. Pirsig Acclaimed as one of the most exciting books in the history of American letters, this modern epic became an instant bestseller upon publication in 1974, transforming a generation and continuing to inspire millions. A narration of a summer motorcycle trip undertaken by a father and his son, the book becomes a personal and philosophical odyssey into fundamental questions of how to live. The narrator's relationship with his son leads to a powerful self-reckoning; the craft of motorcycle maintenance leads to an austerely beautiful process for reconciling science, religion, and humanism. don't know if you're still doing this, or if any of this has been done before, but 6-7 SFW and 14-15 NSFW for Cal/Brynjolf, maybe? :)
Hell yeah, bring it! 💗
6. Going out to eat: Who pays? Who orders the most food? And who has dessert?
Oh Brynjolf pays, every time. First of all, he’s the romantic, so of course he pays. But also Cal’s a stingy little fucker, and he uses people, like even when he doesn’t mean to; I guess it’s a sort of lifelong survivalist thing, but trust me, Brynjolf doesn’t mind at all. He likes taking care of Cal. That said, Cal’s not a big eater, so he doesn’t order much, and Brynjolf’s a healthy strong Nord, albeit not of the usual breadth and height, but still. Brynjolf orders the most food, and they share desert. Also, Cal definitely doesn’t do that annoying thing where he pretends he’s going to offer to pay and then is all bashful about it, no. He’s basically just like, “You’re paying, right?” Brynjolf: [smiles] Yes, I’m paying.
7. Would they go to the beach?
Would a pair of thieves go to the beach... well, first of all, these are two pale daddy-o’s, lemme tell ya 😂 But hey, at least they’re both pretty fit, so they look nice in their swimming gear. And sure, they’d go. I mean, I’m not sure how practical it is for them to take a trip all the way to the ocean (and presumably they’d want to head south, not north), but how about a lakeside getaway? That they’d do. I picture them lying out on blankets, Bryn reading a book, Cal napping, arms behind his head, legs crossed at the ankles. Of course, later that night they can’t so much as brush up against one another without screaming in pain on account of the sunburn they both picked up.
14. Lights on or off? Do they look at each other? Or is someone embarrassed?
Neither is easily embarrassed when it comes to lovemaking, so unless it’s the middle of the night, or just as they’re turning down the lamps, it’s lights on. Granted, the lighting in Brynjolf’s room/alcove is already dim and hence rather romantic, so it’s not like they’re trying to get into the mood with fluorescent lights beaming down upon their naked bums. But, in any case, I would say they both enjoy seeing one another when they make love, though middle of the night sleepy sex is nice, too.
15. Open or closed relationship? Do they sometimes share?
Definitely closed. Brynjolf is demisexual and has no desire to be with anyone at present but his boyfriend, and to be honest, he would be disappointed if Cal wanted an open relationship, but he wouldn’t refuse him that. But as for Cal, no, thank you. He had an open relationship in the past, and it was ugly and abusive on both sides, so, never again. I do think Cal carried a slight flame for Vex initially, but he knew she wasn’t interested, and he very much respects that, and, in any case, he knows Brynjolf would be deeply unhappy about sharing, so he would never even suggest it. And they really are both very happy with one another.

thinking about how many of the killers in DBD are basically solo killers, putting them in situations of having to work together on something would be a beautiful disaster.  @highwayham
Some of them I can see just naturally falling into a group dynamic.
The Legion are already a small group of killers working together, and the other killers are older and more experienced than they are, they would naturally fall into a pack mentality around that killer. I see them working well with killers like The Clown and The Huntress, who were around kids more than the others and put up with more bullshit. Killers like Freddy, The Doctor, The Trapper, and Myers though won’t work well with The Legion, mainly from their lack of patience with teenagers and them wanting to be the boss/not listen to others. And The Legion tend not to work well with the “ghost ladies” either (The Nurse, The Spirit, and The Hag) They don’t really understand all the magic spirit bullshit the girls have... But like they love working with Bubba and Amanda the most, whom they kind of idolize  (they tried to “befriend” Myers, but Frank ended up with a broken nose out of the deal and it didn’t help that the girls kept wanting to call Myers “Daddy”... fffff)
The Hag and Anna are easy going when it comes to teaching the less experienced of the group how to properly skin an animal or do other rustic-domestic and basic survivalist skills. Evan sometimes helps them on this, but he’s loud, rude, and swears a lot while doing it. Max would act as the assistant to whomever is having the lesson at the time. And Bubba actually taught Anna and Evan some tricks they didn’t know about. The Legion kind of “eww gross” over most of the skills being taught, and they really don’t like being stuck on “food prep” duty. The Spirit doesn’t eat, so she doesn’t participate, but she likes to watch and ask questions. Myers tends to just hang around and watch quietly from the background.
Aside: ((Bubba, Max, and Evan doing stupid “hold my beer” type activities in their down time... if they can get Phil to help them with making something, it gets extra stupid. Jackass DBD style. When these 4 are acting as a killing team... it’s like Murderer King of the Hill))
Oddly though, i can see The Huntress and Myer’s falling in line with one another with out officially “working” together... Myer’s being a stalking opportunistic killer, having someone that is super-obvious like Anna and her singing causing the Survivors to run and scatter, he would watch and wait for any of the the Survivors she didn’t hatchet in the back and go after them. (think of a hunter and a bird dog. the dog runs ahead to get birds out of hiding). He would do this with most of the other killers as well, to varying degrees. Some don’t like to share (like Freddy and The Spirit) and some just get annoyed about their play things being taken away (The Trapper, The Hillbilly, Amanda, The Doctor).  The Wraith and Myers teaming up would be like when orca trap narwhal in shallow waters and kill them... because they are both sneaky boys that take their time, they would tighten their circle around the survivors and corral them into an area they couldn’t escape from before attacking them.
(it would be a weird little “cliq” among the killers... The Huntress, The Shape, The Clown, and The Wraith. The Clown and The Huntress drawing people out of hiding and The Wraith and The Shape snatching them up as they run. All of them using their stealth or range attacks to pin the survivors down.
Like Myers would rather work on his own, but for some god damned reason he ended up in this particular group, but he doesn’t argue about it because they don’t step on each other’s toes and technically aren’t a real team (they just fell into a routine without realizing it)... this loud, big, and bawdy clown... just-- he really liked clowns as a kid, and was even two seconds away from taking a clown mask--right in the nostalgia... Then there’s that guy covered in sticks and mud, he gets along with everybody, doesn’t say much to him nor tell him what to do, and stays out of his way... and Anna... she often complements him on a job well done... nobody ever did that before and actually mean it...)
Most of the Killers don’t like working with The Doctor. His mental-attack abilities and electrical strike effects everybody, killer and survivor alike, within his range. If he has to work with someone it tends to be the “Ghost Girls” because of their teleport/phasing powers that would let them keep their distance from him, but still let them come in to help when needed. The Doctor and The Hag don’t get along outside of the hunt (their is a whole magic vs. science debate there). The Nurse was use to dealing with “butthead” Doctors in her profession before, so they get along on a professional level.
The Spirit had to get over a language barrier... she didn’t know English and it took her a while to pick up basic simple sentences. She picked up things like: yes and no, and directions fairly fast, but outside of that she couldn’t really tell people what she wanted. Anna also had a language barrier, but it took her less time to get the basics down from Russian to English (even though she’ll still occasionally forgets a word for something and would still mix up similar sounding words... she once told the wraith to use his “trampoline” when she was thinking of a “tambourine” ) The Spirit can’t read English. Anna can, but slowly.
Freddy is also another killer that the others don’t like to work with. He is an asshole, he is selfish about kills, and he would fuck with them as well. The Spirit and The Nurse can see him and touch him while he is in the dream world, so he stays away from them (The Spirit would fucking fight him over kills). While cloaked, The Wraith can follow him but not effect him. The Doctor’s madness attack would counter Freddy’s dream/sleep abilities, kicking people back into the real world. The Hag’s teleportation can pull him out of the dreamworld if she has hold of him when she activates it. Freddy tends to pick on The Legion, Bubba, and Amanda the most. Anna is also an easy target, but picking on her tends to make the others mad (don’t mess with Team Mom). Myers... doesn’t dream, and he just goes into a coma-like state (on autopilot) when put under (basically Freddy just puts the “Michael” part of his brain to sleep, but The Shape-part is all “fuck you asshole” and keeps going).

basics:
name: alastor everett moody. pronunciation: aa-l-aa-st-aw-r eh·vr·uht moo·dee. meaning: alastor- man's defender. everett- brave, strong boar. birthday: june 20th. age: twenty-seven. pronouns: he & him. sexuality: bisexual. siblings: theodore moody, nestor moody, victor moody. parents: clarence moody & lavinia moody nee morgan. other family: sylvie moody (niece). sophie moody (niece). samson (nephew, deceased). languages: english. current residence: an old flat in london. hometown: manchester.
wizard fun:
hogwarts house: ravenclaw. year of graduation: 1974. occupation: auror. pet: pygmy puff named gidget. blood status: halfblood. species: wizard. patronus: hawk. those with the hawk patronus are dangerously intelligent, noting every detail of what is around them. they are great observers as well as being magnificent hunters, this meaning they have both sides of the coin covered. they can come up with an idea, plan it out, and execute it perfectly. they are extreme perfectionists, wanting everything to be just as they see it. if it isn’t, they feel trapped, which can cause them to become incredibly emotional boggart: one of the dark wizards or witches that he’s put into azkaban coming back for him. amortentia:   aloe.   alastor regularly applies aloe to all sorts of magic injuries that he’s acquired. he also applies it to his scars in the hope that they won’t be so noticeable one day.   bleach. the reason alastor tends to stick with more neutral colors is because he has to use a lot of bleach in his wash to keep the blood from staining his clothes. over the years, he’s grown very fond of the diluted scent in the wash. it makes him think of home and hanging the linens up on the clothes line.   petrichor.   alastor likes rain and rainy days. it can make it harder for people to hide because their prints and movements are more obvious in the rain. it’s also just a very calming and serene veil for the world he enjoys. wand type: 10″ aspen wood, phoenix tail feather, sturdy and receptive.   wand-quality aspen wood is white and fine-grained, and highly prized by all wand-makers for its stylish resemblance to ivory and its usually outstanding charmwork. the proper owner of the aspen wand is often an accomplished duellist, or destined to be so, for the aspen wand is one of those particularly suited to martial magic. an infamous and secretive eighteenth-century duelling club, which called itself the silver spears, was reputed to admit only those who owned aspen wands. in my experience, aspen wand owners are generally strong-minded and determined, more likely than most to be attracted by quests and new orders; this is a wand for revolutionaries.   this is the rarest core type. phoenix feathers are capable of the greatest range of magic, though they may take longer than either unicorn or dragon cores to reveal this. they show the most initiative, sometimes acting of their own accord, a quality that many witches and wizards dislike. phoenix feather wands are always the pickiest when it comes to potential owners, for the creature from which they are taken is one of the most independent and detached in the world. these wands are the hardest to tame and to personalise, and their allegiance is usually hard won. affiliation: the order of the phoenix.
appearance:
height: 6′. hair color: dirty blonde. eye color: one brown, one bright blue. typical hair style: shaved on the sides and slicked back and longer on the top. fashion style: alastor likes to wear neutral or cool colors. he wear a lot more for function over fashion. however, he does care about his looks a good deal. he is usually caught in leather and denim the most. [ fashion ] distinguishing features: alastor has one brown eye and one blue eye and almost always sports a smile that looks as if he’s about to say something that will get him slapped across the face. he has several deep scars on his back, chest, and arms that he tries to keep covered the majority of the time. during an explosion on the ministry alastor lost a large piece of his nose and it’s now scarred deeply across the center too.
personality:
positive traits: bold. survivalist. strategist. negative traits: paranoid. arrogant. noncommittal. theme song: don’t fear the reaper by blue oyster cult.
headcanons:
alastor is particularly close to all of his brothers, but he often feels like they’ve given him almost too much to live up to. it drives him to take risks that otherwise he might not take so long as it differentiates him from the rest of the moody boys.
moody’s apartment frankly looks a lot more like a hovel than a home. he doesn’t spend too much time there anyway so everything is meant for simplicity and to be something he doesn’t have to worry about cleaning or getting disgusting if he’s gone for months on end. it’s more or less just bare bone necessities or tools for an emergency.
his very favorite thing to eat is fish & chips. if he likes you, you can talk alastor into almost anything if you bribe him with fried foods first.
biography:
Leonidus Moody was an auror as was his wife, Winifred. Their son Ephriam Moody and his wife Clara were aurors as well. Even Ephriam’s son, Clarence Moody and his wife Lavinia were also aurors. Their three oldest sons, Theodore, Nestor, and Victor, also became, you guessed it, aurors. That is precisely how Alastor knew what he was meant to be. It was in his blood from the moment that he came screeching into the world on the hottest day of summer. He was a bit of an unexpected birth, born nine years after the youngest of his older brothers. The last miracle of a stalwart woman with a lot of grit.
With three brothers to tail after from a young age, Alastor soon learned that he had to be sharper, more ready, and more patient than the others if he wanted to learn how to keep up with them. They already knew so much more than he did. Alastor hated nothing more than being made a fool or worse, losing. It was always a highly competitive atmosphere. Even his parents supported the brothers riffing. They both loudly believed that it made them all better wizards and better friends. The truth is that it only made Alastor more certain that he was going to be the best auror of all of them. His parents were rarely home when he was young. As they said, they were still in the height of their careers. Alastor was brought along on many of the missions they took. It was hands on learning at it’s finest. However, he was often passed between his brother’s care if the missions were likely to end in death.
Far before he was ready, Alastor received his letter for Hogwarts while on a mission with his mother while she tracked a dark wizard through the better part of Belgium. He didn’t want to go, but his parents insisted that he needed proper education like all their other sons had. Besides, he needed the accredited grades to get into the Auror program anyway. It didn’t take long for the Sorting Hat to place him in Ravenclaw. His obvious desire to learn and to be the one who knew outweighing everything else.
Alastor worked hard in school. Anything else wasn’t an option. He knew what classes he needed to take. He knew what marks he needed to make. Unlike many of his schoolmates, Alastor had a goal from the beginning. He had no trouble putting his nose down and putting in the work to make it happen. There was no time for distractions like Quidditch or extracurriculars when he had more important things on his mind. He did begin to frequent the history section of the library, though. He realized there was a lot he could learn from patterns that already existed.
As soon as he had the results of his N.E.W.T.s in his hands, Alastor was prepared to enter his Auror Training. Frankly, he’d been ready long before that, but bureaucracy would always have it out. Three years of gruelling spells, harsh lessons in survival, and training from the best dark wizard catchers available in the ministry later, and Alastor sported his own gleaming silver Auror badge to match that of his family. Finally, he felt like he’d caught up to what he’d been chasing since he first learned to toddle after his brothers. Now it was time to prove how much he deserved it.
That’s precisely what he endeavored to do. His first arrest that was sentenced to Azkaban happened no less than four months into his career. It was notably early, but no one seemed surprised. It always seemed to be what was expected of someone from his family line. As he accomplished more, he realized that was always the case. Nothing he managed to do stood out. Part of him knew that wasn’t the point, but there was another side, a very vain side of him, that wanted the acknowledgement.
When his old Headmaster approached him about lending his skills to The Order of the Phoenix, Alastor reluctantly agreed with the understanding that his position as an auror would always come first. Voldemort was certainly a threat. There was no denying that fact. Moody was the man to put away threats. However, there was more than just one Dark Wizard to worry about, and it was his goal to put every last one away.

“Tremors” – welcome to perfection
Tumblr media
(originally published on Talkbacker.com on April 8, 2014)
You only need to catch a glimpse of the “Jaws”-parodying poster for “Tremors”, and you’ll know exactly what to expect. These filmmakers aren’t about to throw blood and guts or dark stuff at ya. This is strictly tongue-in-cheek; there ARE underground monsters, they eat people, there will be deaths, but there will also be hilarious dialogue, great characterizations, gorgeous desert vistas, and some high-quality filmmaking and practical effects-work here.
Someone should deserve a special award for casting Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward as the main protagonists in this film. As we are introduced to Valentine “Val” McKee (Bacon) and Earl Basset (Ward), the instant and natural chemistry between these two is palpable. It’s a match made in movie heaven. Val and Earl wake up in the desert, in true cowboy-style, one sleeping in the back of their pickup truck, the other sleeping under it. The cowboy analogy actually reminds me of another great pairing, Butch and Sundance. That’s probably the closest comparison of the character dynamics that’s going on between Val & Earl.
Val is the younger one, a dreamer, a womanizer (with a very special list of qualities he expects from a woman: “You will have long blonde hair, big green eyes, world class breasts, ass that won’t quit and legs that go all the way up.”) and the more restless soul. Earl is the older, wiser, laconic, practical man. But the unifying quality of both Val and Earl is, they are not the all-knowing, all-powerful movie heroes. They are actually both kinda…dummies. In a good way. In an entertaining way. I don’t know how much Bacon and Ward hung out or rehearsed before the shooting of this film, but they are clearly having a blast with their characters. Most of the stuff they do has a spontaneous, improvisational feel to it. I would certainly like to see them work together again sometime.

Earl Bassett: “Is this a job for an intelligent man?” Valentine McKee: “Well, show me one and I’ll ask him.”
Val and Earl are the for-hire “handymen” in the Town of Perfection (population 14), located in a vast Nevada valley surrounded by mountains from all directions. As the town’s survivalist nut Burt Gummer (more about HIM later) states: “that’s why we chose this place. Total isolation.” Besides Val and Earl, the township consists of: storeowner Walter Chang (the great Victor Wong), pottery maker Nancy (Charlotte Stewart) and her daughter Mindy (“Jurassic Park”‘s Ariana Richards), Melvin (Robert Jayne), Dr.Wallace and his wife (Conrad Bachmann and Carol Marcus – I mean, Bibi Besch), Miguel (Tony Genaro), Nestor (Richard Marcus), Old Fred (Michael Dan Wagner), Edgar Deems (Sunshine Parker) aaaand of course, the aforementioned Burt Gummer and his wife Heather (Michael Gross and Reba McEntire). Also in town is a graduate student of seismology, Rhonda LeBeck (Finn Carter), who is the EXACT opposite of everything in Val’s list, but it’s pretty obvious what’s going to happen there, isn’t it?

Earl Bassett: “We gotta run. We’ve got a schedule to keep.” Valentine McKee: “Yeah. See, we plan ahead, that way we don’t do anything right now. Earl explained it to me.”
But as the story begins, the number of characters begin to decrease. In fact, one of them is already gone at the point where the movie begins. As Val and Earl finally have had enough of this shit (literally, as emptying a septic tank blows in their faces), they come across Edgar Deems, sitting on top of an electrical tower. Edgar, who apparently was a town drunk, has actually died from dehydration. As the doctor diagnoses, he’s been sitting up on the tower, probably for days. Here’s the first sign, that something’s rotten in Perfection. Well, UNDER it, to be more precise.
Now, the director, Ron Underwood, does even more emulating from “Jaws” that just the poster. The underground creatures appear mostly off-camera for the longest time, much like the shark. The following attacks on people, Old Fred and the doctor and wife, are filmed very efficiently, adding mystery to the monsters while also showing their viciousness and extreme strength, as the doctors wife is sucked inside the ground while hiding inside a Ford station wagon! These creatures mean business. Also, two road-construction workers who are working on the only road in and out of town, get quickly dispatched and the resulting rock slide cuts Perfection completely off from the outside world. The scene includes a brilliant physical jackhammer gag, that’s like something right out from a Warner Brothers cartoon. And in this latest viewing I noticed, that there are a LOT of cartoon gags in the film.
Underwood is clearly using a Tex Avery-playbook in the way he shoots action, and it adds an extra level of fun to the overall tone of the film. Especially the demises (spoiler there) of each of the creatures are a carefully balanced mix of cartoon and grossness. From a creature coming in contact with concrete at full speed with a big “boink”-sound effect into the last one taking a Wile E. Coyote-swan dive off a cliff. And in the end of the second act, a creature entering “the wrong goddamn rec room” – Gummers’ basement – and getting drilled with more bullets than in your average John Woo film.
The Gummers. Ahh yes, the Gummers. Let’s talk about them for a bit.

Earl Bassett: What kind of fuse is that? Burt Gummer: Cannon fuse Earl Bassett: What the hell do you use it for? Burt Gummer: My cannon!
Until “Tremors”, Michael Gross was basically known as the liberal, ex-hippie father Steven Keaton in “Family Ties”. One day after filming the last episode of that show, Gross began filming “Tremors”. Now talk about switching gears; Burt Gummer is a polar opposite of Steven Keaton. He’s a paranoid survivalist, definitely right wing, a gun nut with a capital “N”. The Gummer home is basically a bunker, set up for end-of-the-world conditions. Or as Burt states after the monster attack: “Food for five years, a thousand gallons of gas, air filtration, water filtration, Geiger counter. Bomb shelter…” That tells all about good old Burt’s world views. As does the license plate of his car: UZI 4U.
His wife Heather is played by country singer Reba McEntire in her first film performance. She does a damn good job too. Heather is likable, but also just as tough-as-nails as Burt and can certainly handle guns as well.
The creatures – Graboids, as they have been known since, in sequels and TV-series alike – are designed by Tom Woodruff and Alec Gillis’ company Amalgamated Dynamics and they are some of the best and most realistic creature work that’s been ever put on screen. Basically pre-historic worms – although the characters are trying to make up all kinds of explanations for them, from being aliens to government-built monsters to be used against invading forces. AD has worked on the “Alien”-franchise since “Aliens”, and one can see that the “double-mouth”(biting tentacle tongues shooting out from a larger mouth) has evolved from the star-beast’s similar one. These creatures are strong, fast (moving like armored freight trains underground) and smart. That is always a welcome thing in monster films. Graboids are constantly adapting, and the means that the heroes use to avoid them, don’t necessarily work for a second time. Of course they have a weakness, this time it being loud noises, as they basically sense everything by vibrations. Smart, almost “National Geographic”-approach. Nothing hokey or supernatural. Just the way I like it.

Earl Bassett: “Hey Rhonda – you ever seen anything like this before?” Valentine McKee: “Oh sure, Earl. Everyone knows about them – we just didn’t tell you.”
Pretty soon the remaining residents of the town are forced into exile, trying to escape into the mountains while pursued by the hungry beasts, the final confrontation happening on the edge of a tall canyon. “Tremors” was shot – with the exception of two sets – on location. Outside in Lone Pine, California. And you can basically SMELL the desert, and the heat,  in every frame of the movie. The setting, as well as the look of the town, evokes memories of the great westerns. In fact – the third sequel for the movie IS a western, going back in time to the golden years of Perfection.
Too bad the sequels are of diminishing quality, adding unnecessary sci-fi elements (such as FLYING Graboids, WTF?) and poorer quality effects. The unifying element in the sequels (as well as the quickly cancelled after 13 episodes TV-show) is Michael Gross’ Burt. But to be absolutely frank, Burt Gummer is not a leading man. He works best in small doses. The driving force in this film is the tag team of Val & Earl, arguing, bickering, rock-paper-scissoring through near-death scenarios and finally coming up as winners (spoiler).

I’m sensing a pattern in my reviews (besides all so far being from 1990); “Tremors” was only a modest hit at the box office, but it went on to become a huge hit on home video and subsequent media. But as I go through my lists of great films, such seems to be the case with almost all of them. “Tremors” is funny, well-paced, beautifully shot thrill ride, with wonderful characters and rich, quotable dialogue. If that is not the sign of a cult classic, I don’t know what is. Ron Underwood proceeded to direct films like “City Slickers” (keeping up with the western tone from this film), “Heart and Souls”, “Speechless” and finally “Pluto Nash”, which basically killed his mainstream career, reducing him into mostly a TV-director.
Too bad – perhaps another low budget monster movie is what he should try again…?
