based off of Clown's pokemon au human Barn, it seems like he might be a bit of a jewelry guy! he was wearing rings! and had an earring! also i think Barn just looks great w/ some extra shinies, yk yk

since ties aren't really a Thing in fantasy settings, i combined the iconic pattern w/ his vest for a two-in-one. then suspenders bc they fuck severely! his belt buckle is a bone both as a nod to the pattern on his tie / house decoration, and to go along with how Wally has an apple buckle! besties stay twinning!

you can't see it but on his other side he has his pack & his smoking pipe holster, which attaches to his belt! it's very high quality leather that he spent so much money on. his pipe is important to him - he carved it himself out of wood from an important tree from his childhood, so he wants it to be properly stored & protected! he has two kinds of tobacco for it - normal, and magic tobacco that essentially allows him to cast minor spells w/ the smoke

the feathers on his hat are from Ms. Beagle! in my mind he left the farm to go adventuring on a bit of a bad note, but his mama made sure to give him a couple feathers to take with so that she'd always be close <3

he keeps his claws blunt so that he doesn't accidentally scratch people/things, and so that he can play stringed instruments without cutting the strings. while i imagine for this au he plays a wide range, he prefers Loud Handheld Instruments that allow him to sing along. so in mind he has an Accordion here! loud! jaunty! but i imagine he also keeps a recorder in his pack for when Frank needs annoying. (he did have a lute, but he broke it over someone's head in the act of defending Wally's honor)

im still trying to pin down the right balance of colors for his outfit, but! for a little au tidbit - all of his spots are the same two blues as his ears. in this im imagining that he, at a young age, learned a very basic cosmetic spell that allowed him to change his spots color to mimic Ms. Beagle's! he wanted to look like his mama! but by the time he's in his late 20s he no longer changes his spots

December 12, 2023 || Born in 1905, Christian Dior, the fashion designer, climbed the ranks of several Parisian fashion houses before establishing his own establishment in 1946.

Hello!! I’d happy to help, but it would also be helpful to know what role he will play exactly? If he’s a side character, I can’t imagine you’ll get into any of his personal struggles with his friendships lol

I would say, Garth believes he is closer to the Titans than they are to him. By that I mean that Garth doesn’t really have many friends other than the Titans — Aquaman is his friend, and all the other Atlanteans he knows are connected by Arthur (other than Letifos, who is a mermaid)

However, the Titans all have lives that do contain friendships. And they are very close with each other. Garth is like the friend you knew who moved away and you make time to hang out when he’s in town. But the deep connection is no longer there.

He is probably closest to Dick, because he has known him longer and tbh he doesn’t really like Wally as much. He doesn’t get along with Roy. And Donna is very mom-coded to him, so he likes her but they aren’t really shown interacting 1-on-1.

The updates for the Welcome Home ARG by the amazing @partycoffin and his team were an absolute delight!

I had a BLAST perusing it, how the changes made sense due to its themes, the canon VOICES just everything!!

Some quick thoughts:

- Barnaby to me was the real MVP here he was HILARIOUS and not just because of his puns. This dog has SASS. I was thrown by how much he had in common with Howdy, but in a very good way! You can see he has a lot of parallels to Wally without the “enlightenment.” His interactions with House argdfghcfthjbvcghj I LOVED. He also phoned Wally 🥹

- Eddie was everything I thought he would be, bumbling, adorable, caring, and (most dangerously 😬) easily swayed. The pixel banners seemed like a nod to fandom pairings and I’m just gonna say that what we got will def fuel that fire. I’m SO glad they gave him a southern accent!!!

- The characters I was most surprised by were Howdy and Poppy, particularly Howdy. Howdy’s funny, brash, and has this ever-suffering vibe to him that doesn’t show through too much in his artwork and I can’t get enough of it. He literally has too much on his hands to worry about all this horror going on in the background, but still cares about his friends. ALSO making Eddie do a bowling ball delivery run, but personally delivering YARN to Poppy? And the slinky-yarn invention??? The absolute SHADE of it all but Howdy having a soft spot for Poppy is still cute

- Poppy turning out to be a Big Chicken AND a Mother Hen? GOLD. Also her vocal ticks I SWEAR she is so cute!!!

- I was surprised that Sally spoke like a Shakespearean, but she was also just as theatrical in my head as in canon! Her part in Eddie’s Big Lift was everything to me lol.

- Frank and Julie were Frank and Julie, lovelovelove it! I LIVE for their friendship, SO cute 🥰

- And, of course, Wally was the most. 😉

The emphasis on Ursa a not being summoned makes me think there's a reason Lor didn't also summon her - I know there's a chance the projector can probably only release one at a time - but could Lor not have asked for both and then let the Projector find them then released them one at a time? it's so interesting hearing the emotion in Zods voice - he's as desperate as anyone else to escape the Phantom zone - despite all the composure and control he's been showing around Conner and his followers - there's desperation, joy, hope as he inches towards freedom - it speaks to how truly hellish the Zone is to everyone

When I was first watching this episode - I was So Confused with what just happened to Forager’s arm! Like I thought she broke it or something sinister - I was like, is this a good thing or a bad thing - because it doesn’t sound great!?

Tomar-Re's attempt at venting the pilar of fire whilst shield himself mirrors Mera's attempts to deal with Child’s pilar of fire in 415 - of course she had Kaldur to support her unlike Tomar-Re... So, I did not expect Tomar-Re to get killed - I saw a post last week talking about how he went blind in the comic trying to protect those he watches over - so I though something like that might happen - but no - he Lor kill him in order to avoid failing another planet. I did not expect an actual arc for Tomar but it worked well - I am very sad that he's dead but glad he found some comfort knowing made up for his mistake. That final smile as he hears he's succeeded is heartbreaking!

FORAGER'S A GREEN LANTERN! That's SO COOL! (hey, she wearing green - Like Peter Pan!) So interestingly, I hade the thought last episode after Mantis Save Lor and M'comm - What if a bug became a Green lantern - because they’ve shown some serious will power throughout the time we’re known then. So I feel rather vindicated now Forager has become a green lantern.

You go Forager! Take that box thing down!

I really like the Slow mo as Saturn Girl realises Conner and Phantom girl are in the phantom zone but its too late to stop the blasts and all she can do is wake phantom girl up... can Phantom girl travel the phantom zone? I assume she got them in there so will she be able to get them out again?

I also like the shot of Rocket noticing, though not realising, what's going on - I'm looking forward to seeing this come back up again, as I'm sure it will, later as they start connecting the dots on what going on.

That is not a happy Kryptonian and I am now very worried for team time travel… and speaking of angry Kryptonians, I don’t think Zods gonna be too happy with Conner for delaying his escape and costing him his chance of freedom

I'm presuming Saturn Girl was knocked out by the shock of Lor ripping a hole through bioship - the some way it effects M’gann whenever bioship is hurt.

Bart is trapped on the ship with an angry kngptoniar and an insane Martian - I am very worried for our young speedster right now!

Rocket checking in with Orion after putting himself in a situation she knows he doesn't enjoy - and Orion answering without biting her head off shows how they're both final seeing each other eye to eye. Step aside Conner & Bear - we have a new budding friendship in town - Rocket & Orion!

Oh the look of pain on Kilowog’s face both when coming through the boom tube and carrying Tomar’s dead body breaks my heart! This worked well as a montage sequence - you could see the emotions of everyone in the shots - there weren’t too many and the shots used were effective in conveying what’s happening without words or movement

So another link to Peter Pan - they must remain parted as Forager returns home to Earth and Green Lantern Forager goes off to her Neverland - though still promising to visit Forager Wherever she can. Forage even gives her a book of all his favourite stories - similar to how Wendy would tell stories to the lostboys.

These bugs are so hecking cute with their head bop kisses... if anyone can make a long distance relationship work - its Forager

aww that final goodbye between Rocket and Orion is so heart warming - it didn't click the first time watching just how strong a moment it actually is... I don't really know how to explain what it is I'm thinking… but I guess it's Orion’s response that's so telling - for Rocket, she's come to terms with her misjudgment - she understands that a person is more than their flaws/differences, and mistakes do not define who they actually are. She understands that and can accept Orion as her ally. Orion acknowledges her respects and returns his own by first proclaiming his gratitude then emphasising it by initiating physical contact in order to stop her and ensure she hears how important her respect is from his perspective. While she was parting as allies - he made sure she knew they parted as friend…(I’ve no clue if any of that make sense or actually conveys what I mean… probably not - but I give up!)

I love how this looked to be a really epic moment in the trailer - but in the end nothing actually happens

Zatanna is putting SO much effort into all this - obviously it’s because she saw Conner calling out for help - but like, I am now so intrigued to know what will happen when Artemis finds out about Z & M’gann lying to her about Wallys goodbye. She now can't maintain the reason of not being able to find a lost soul - since all this proves she absolutely can and at the very least could have tried.

“Perhaps... or perhaps Conners not dead at all... And if he's not dead, then I don't need magic to find him... What I need, is a detective." An absolutely brilliant transition into the next are!

More Forager recites sharkespease... Its not like I went into this arc with any expectations - but I certainly didn’t expect to be leaving it with Forager falling in love and now being in a committed long distance relationship with his green lantern Forager girlfriend.

I now have the answer to my question about the previous credits - it was purple Forager in the shot while our Forager spoke about her, while this week its our Forager in the shot while purple Forager speaks of him. (I shouldn't have been as confused as I was.)

Another truly great episode and one of the best arc finales for a long time - for me this one really kept its pace and energy up throughout with plenty of action and emotional beats. This may be my favourite arc yet! I am so excited for what’s to come in the final arc with Dick and really hoping for some good Bart content as the hunt is now on to find both him and Conner before it’s too late!

Rusty Nail Alt #5: Ambushed

Alright, I've only watched two seasons, the ending messed me up and that was back when we didnt really know if we were getting a season 3. So, this is timeline adjacent obviously. 😬 and super short but my brain is barely working ya feel?

Going on missions-real missions- still sent a thrill of excitement through the team, though some hid it better than others. There was just such a difference from the lives they led before, to what they get to do now. Even if they were a little rocky as a team at the start, now it was hard to imagine fighting by anyone else.

Wally loved fighting by his Uncles side, dont get him wrong, but this team, his friends, he couldnt imagine going back. He couldnt imagine a world where he wasnt fighting side by side with these people. Well... he could, but he didnt like to think about that world.

Hes only half listening to the conversation taking place, he'd read through the mission report a million times, and listened to the first speal Kaldur had given, he knew the plan. Wally supposed its a good thing in the long run (ha), as he looks out from the BioShips view screen and reacts faster than anyone else can. He has everyone in their seats and buckled before they can blink, calling out a warning just as he makes it back to his own seat. The impact jars everyone, Wally is thrown, he hopes the others are okay.

"Im losing control! We're going down!"

"Mayday Mayday! This is Young Justice calling for back up and Medical! We are going down!"

"Guns, everything down! Whatd they hit us with!?"

"I dont know, I didnt see, Wally- wheres Wally!?"

"Brace for Impact!"

...

Robin really doesnt know how he keeps surviving things like this. Though hes beginning to think it has something to do with Wally or genetic modification. Hed have to do tests when he got home, but Wally is a common variable about these situations so...

Wally.

He wasn't answering. He wasnt in his seat. He got out of his seat to move everyone else... where...

Where was Wally? Where was everyone? Where was he?

Forcing his eyes open seems to alert his body, as he feels like one giant bruise covered by another bruise. A cloud of dirt is still settling, and his throat is scratchy with it as he coughs. The fact hes no longer in the bioship is concerning to say the least, and as he forces himself to sit up his gut sinks further.

The bioship has reverted to its sphere form and looks worse for wear to his human eyes. He coughs again, clutching his ribs as he scans his surroundings. It takes him a moment too long to realize he's using nightvision mode on his mask, to see the rocks surrounding him in all directions, to realize their crash must have caused a cave in.

A groan interupts his oncoming panic, allowing him to mentally smack himself, as his eyes find two bodies he hadnt seen. Kaldur is slowly sitting up, and M'gann is twitching beside him. Robin forces himself to his feet, stumbles his way over to them and falls to his knees to check them over, and only to check them over its so not because he couldnt stand.

"Robin? What...where are we?" Kaldur coughs and Robin is sure this dust is killing his lungs.

"A cave in. We were ambushed, they hit the Bioship with something."

Mgann is slowly coming too, but having been connected to the BioShip probably took a toll on her. Robin scans the room again, trying to find his other three friends. Kaldurs arms light up enough to cast a soft glow, they cant rely on it, but it does help Robin spot something new. Horror dawns on his face hes sure, as he once again stumbles to his feet and rushes across the space.

Where the entrance caved, arm and some of his torso pinned, is Wally. A small pool of blood has formed below him, shiny in Kaldurs light, and Robin has to force the tremble from his hands. He presses two fingers to Wallys throat, finds a pulse far slower than a speedsters should be, but a sign of life nonetheless.

"Is he..?"

"Alive, but pinned and... he wasnt in his seat when we were hit, he needs medical."

"The puddle isnt growing very fast, I assume the rocks are putting pressure on his wounds. To move him could be fatal, however if the pile shifts..."

"He'd be crushed. Could lose his arm or... worse." Robin finishes. "I have some first aid supplies, we should get him out. Hopefully our distress signal went out..."

"I can help, keep the pile steady while you guys get him out." M'ganns voice has a strain to it, but shes standing on her own and determination shines in her eyes.

Robin steeles himself, carefully grabbing hold of Wally as Kaldur grips the large chunk of mountain, Mgann raises her hands, and as one they move. As soon as the rock is up, Robin pulls Wally out of the way. They all hold their breath as Kaldur drops his rock and Mgann keeps the trembling wall steady.

While they need a way out, theyre still missing two team mates and that wall could kill them all if it falls wrong. There focus right now is keeping Wally alive until a new plan can form. So Robin makes quick work of cleaning- as best he can- and binding the bleeding wounds on his best friend. There isnt much he can do about his broken ribs, just glad they arent puncturing anything, hes in rough shape and thats just from what Robin can see. They work together to get to the side of the cave, Mgann tells them the Biship is unresponsive, and that Konner and Artemis arent answering yet.

They hold onto the yet. Because they will answer eventually.

Everyone else is out of range. But she keeps a look out for familiar minds. They just have to wait for now.

...

Wally hurts all over. He hasn't hurt like this in a while, wonders idily what he did to anger...

No that... that wasnt right.

He was... on a... Mission!

With... not Uncle Barry... not Uncle Hal...

Was it a callaboration with the Bats? Or Speedy?

No he doesnt go by Speedy any more.

Oh!

He was on a mission with the team!

And they were ambushed in the sky, they got hit by something and... oh gods, he needed to check on the team! There was a cave in, they could be hurt!

A groan escapes the gingers lips, as his body refuses to comply with his need to get up.

"Dont move Wally, youre hurt!" M'ganns worried voice reaches his ears and rings inside his head, though he doesnt know which one he actually gets.

"We've got you Walls." Robins voice comes from above him, his pillow then.

"Just rest my friend." And Kaldur, alright so theyre all more or less okay good...

He still peels his eyes open, met with mostly darkness and darker dark blobs, his friends he assumes. His mouth feels and tastes like a desert, but he forces his vocal cords to work,

"Cave in... pushed Arty... and Kon..."

"Of course you did. You've been quite the hero today Wally. Im sure rescue will be here soon, you did good."

"You...all ok?"

"Yeah, little banged up, but we'll be fine bud."

If they dont die from lack of everything. Great, this would be quite the way to die.

"We'll get out of here Wally, dont worry." M'gann is gentle as she take his hand, the one not tingling on the edge of numbness.

He gives it a light squeeze and silence falls again. Hes almost dozed off again when Mgann gasps, and her voice fills their heads.

"Artemis, Konner! Are you guys okay?"

"I think we're in one piece. You guys? Baywatch pushed us out of the way, is he.."

"Im here Arty."

"And we're fine my friends. Do you perhaps have an escape on your side?"

"No, looks like our crash and whoever our unexpected company was, sealed us in."

"The league should be able to see the disturbance in the mountain though." Konner adds.

"Alright, I guess we're back to hanging tight."

...

Light flashes behind closed eyelids.

Fingers twitch as raspy barely there breaths fill the once silence.

Rocks moving, Dust billowing, voices echoing around them with no desernable words.

Warmth to numb limbs, water to dry lips, air to shriveled lungs. Pressure to weeping wounds.

Hands in hands, refusing to let go.

Safe.

So, PG got woken up and Lor Zod high-jacked the time travel ship. Something tells me that he's gonna want to use it to either go back or forward in time. Though SG sensing PG, and probably Conner as well, means she might agree with it since it gives both of them equal shot at the projector. Dick's arc has 5 episodes, I feel like with how things are going his arc is the most likely. Hell, he might share it with Wally similar to how Conner and M'gann shared one.

Dick might just have three and we'll get a two episode finale or maybe he gets four and the finale episode is solo? But yeah it's very likely Dick gets five episodes at this point.

I think Lor's main priority will be the Phantom Zone Projector. It blew up so he will want to go back in time and get it again (could be the reason the battery is dead? They went in and grabbed it and then put it back when they were done?)

I'm not sure Saturn Girl will want to go along with the plan. She knows that Phantom Girl probably got into the Phantom Zone using her powers so SG probably thinks that PG can get them out the same way. Either way I don't think she would risk Lor getting the house of Zod out of the zone. It will be interesting to see how SG, CB and KF get out of this one. They can't take Lor and M'comm in a fight and they can't let them make changes to the timeline so they really don't have a lot of choices. They will have to get creative.

Now for Dick's arc just in general I honestly think that, while it will be mainly focused on him, he will be sharing it with the rest of the og team. I think Dick's relationships with the og team members will be the forefront of these episodes and that there will be a lot of characters hanging out with him in this arc. He has a lot of friends.

There's this promo poster that shows Dick, Artemis, Rocket, Kaldur and Zatanna all standing menacingly in a line looking ready to throw down at the docks or something and there's the promo pic of Dick, Zatanna and Artemis looking at a screen together and of course the trailer shows a fight scene with Dick, Zatanna and Kaldur in the tower of Fate, so it's clear that Dick's arc is going to be the team reunion arc.

Honestly I'm cool with that. Let's get a character driven arc with the og team dynamics back in play!

The interesting thing is that M'gann isn't present for these so I'm thinking that they don't tell M'gann about Conner. They probably don't want to tell her until they know for sure he's alive but if I was M'gann I would be mad regardless so 😬. We'll see how that plays out. Also Conner will obviously be off doing his own thing in the Zone. Not really sure what will happen with him. What will Dru do? What will PG tell him? Idk. 🤷

I’ve been busy reading. Here’s Flash Vol 2, Issue 33 - Joker’s Holiday

So truth time... While I was out of town I loaded up a bunch of books on my tablet and read through to about #45. Now I’m going back and making these posts, but you’re not getting my actual first reaction. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Oof this lady had some real trauma caused by someone dressed as a clown. 😬

And now here’s Wally moving into Keystone with Mason. And a woman shows up in tears because he killed her puppy when he ran across the country.

Alright so that was an actor that someone mysterious paid to make Wally feel bad. Trying to run him out of town.

And here’s the lady from the intro, Dana. She’s been seeing a clown stalking her, and then in her baby’s room. Seems weird he’d be there, but like.. not take the baby right then. Just sayin.

Poor Wally getting no respect from the authorities lol.

Oh shit and the police captain is dead. And our mysteeeerious watcher is saying he isn’t aware of any Joker activity. 

Side note.. what the hell is this bathing situation?

And inevitably Linda and Wally do some light bickering loool.

Wally: You made that woman cry jfc Linda: Shut tf up I’m working Wally: Hey wanna go out?

I mean, I can’t not include the next panel too.

I wasn’t too taken with the art for Bruce Wayne, but the batflash fan in me is like 👀 👀 👀. They didn’t even say much to each other but I don’t care. I’ll take my scraps where I can get them.

LMAO BRUCE HUNG UP ON HIM.

So Wally runs off to deal with Juice Mantee, suspect for the captain’s murder. And Linda and Joan visit a woman who suspects Dana has severe post-partum depression and is delusional.

Okay but this made me laugh. Oh Wally.

Omfg Dana’s gone off the rails. She's going to drop her baby from the bridge.

BUT of course Wally saves the day. Mantee was responsible for the captain’s murder, capitalizing on the Joker rumors, and Dana hallucinated the Joker and can now seek treatment. And at the end we finally get a reveal on our mysterious baddie.

Final thoughts:

For some reason I had been avoiding reading this one. I wasn’t interested in this lady and her baby and whatever the fuck was going on with the Joker. In the scheme of things it wasn’t a very important story, but I think Dana pops in later as sort of a cameo. And we get the Turtle reveal, which I guess is pretty cool if you’re a Jay or Barry fan from back in the day. I do think it’s funny that he’s basically watching Wally and co like it’s a tv show. 

Like I said at the top, I did read ahead pretty far. I’m going to try to blow through these posts so I don’t fall too far behind with chronicling my read through. I’d rather to the live reactions, but heck. The story with Linda got so good I couldn’t put it down!

Thomas Connor is SUCH an interesting character he should’ve gotten way more focus! It sure is a shame when he got some of that needed focus in dctl it came with. That. bruh

some more explanations:

in the game he’s a boris with a cool steampunk arm but also the only other change is looking permanently grumpy. like the arm is so cool but why he look like that

Thomas is such an interesting character with so much importance to the plot but he barely gets any screentime where he’s the actual focus! We know he played a big part in creating the ink machine, he helped make the Ink Demon, he feels guilty for the part he played in everything... but like, beyond that? I want to know what he was thinking during, not after! When the Ink Demon was freshly created and locked in Thomas’ office, and all the blame was unjustly on him. How did he feel about the Ink Demon? How does he feel about the Ink Demon? He created it, where’s my cool moment in the game where Tom has some proper reaction to it? Or it to Tom?

The dynamic thing isn’t even really about Allison to be clear, but about how we p much always see Thomas paired up with someone who’s his opposite in some way. His work for Joey, his work with Wally and struggle to teach him, even those brief bits of him butting heads with Sammy and Shawn (even if both of those are 😬). He’s always faced with someone who opposes him, like geez give this man a break no wonder he’s grumpy and tired. His dynamic with Allison on the other hand is just like... they are a couple I guess :| I’d love to see more of them together to actually see how they work together bc what we got can barely be called crumbs.

You obviously put a lot of research in to your fic - it definitely shows - and you come across as pretty well read on the ww2 era. What are some of your favorite books dealing with the time period? I just finished reading "Traitor King" by Andrew Lownie, about Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson's shenanigans post-abdication, and I'm still pretty floored about what the ramifications would've been if that flagrant nazi sympathizer had stayed on the British throne.

I feel (and I suspect the same is true for many people!) that I could live 3 lifetimes and still not have enough time to read all of the books I'd like to read, and learn about all the things I know I want to know more about (and all the things I haven't discovered yet that future me will want to learn of!) 😅

Before I answer, a bit of an offshoot: I really struggle with how homogenous the storytellers are of WWII history. It's only really been in the last ten years or so that we see some serious proliferation of whose stories get told (and who is telling the stories). Clearly (*gestures at blog, at fanfic that is consuming my brain*) I adore those people and those histories so this isn't a slight on them - but I have always struggled with how little we hear in nonfiction about women, people of color, and other minorities. (And to be fair: this is not just a WWII history problem, this is a "the field of history has been dominated by white men for a really long time and that has created a hegemony that we're still struggling with".)

So! Disclaimer (? rant??? something??) aside:

Our Mothers' War by Emily Yellin is one that I really enjoy. I read it a few years ago and ended up buying a copy because I kept wanting to come back to it. Some of the author's commentary as she was researching the book really played into the creation of HHS.

It used to be a bit difficult to find (a big actor is named in a project based off the book so I think it's gotten more popular) but The War Magician (David Fisher) was really fascinating to me!

Fatal Crossroads deals with the Malmedy Massacre (Danny Parker) which I had never learned much about in school and I honestly tend to recommend it to anyone who is interested in WWII - it's easy to link to what people know (battle of the bulge) but involves a part of it that generally doesn't get a whole lot of attention.

Sisters in the Resistance has some first-hand recountings of women in the French Resistance and I think it's a good foil for people who may not underestimate just how much the French populace fought back (and how many women were involved, and exactly how significant their contributions were).

I have not read Traitor King - would you recommend? That said, I'm reasonably familiar with some of the attitudes espoused and 😬 can you imagine?? It's such a juxtaposition to what we recall as the royal family being during war (for example, future queen E's service with the ATS). I wonder how much more will come out in the next decade or two about Edward. I feel like oftentimes, it can take that long (or longer, tbh) for people to start sharing the (now, family heirlooms) artifacts like letters, conversations, that happened but were kept quiet/secret for decorum's sake for so many years.
