yuki is being punished for not conforming to racist stereotypes of how asian men should behave. the only reason his language and agression is an issue is because he is not white, and specifically an asian man.

basically the west dominated asia in the post war period, and the hypersexualisation of asian women has a direct flip side that is the neutering of asian men. theres more to it: before ww2 anti immigration laws that meant only asian men were allowed to immigrate (cheap labour because slavery was illegal now) leading to all-male communities that white ppl saw as deviant. they werent allowed to bring their families and they werent allowed to marry non-white people so they were essentially seen as non-sexual or inversely as creeps and perverts, lecherous and dangerous. and then everything after ww2. asia as the enemy was represented through emasculisation, making the west look like big manly heroes. this happened to japan, vietnam, korea etc.

furthermore, because of this cultural context, asian men are portrayed as completely docile and quiet in popular media. think of nerdy stereotypes. this portrayal has only reinforced these stereotypes and deeply entrenched them as cultural attitudes.

yuki does not conform. no matter how much people infantilise him and act like hes all cute or whatever. the reality is that yuki is manly, masculine in a way white ppl see as reserved for themselves. aggression is coded as masculine and is this not appropriate for the emasculated, quiet, docile, weak and nerdy asian man. this nonconformity is threatening to racists. the fact yuki isnt behaving how people expect him to as an asian man is the source of the issue. because its not even worth noticing when the white men do it

I'm tired. I grew up in a racist home. Ironically, being imigrants, I was myself victim of racism. I still had racist thoughts without being fully aware they were racist in the first place. I had prejudices. However I was lucky to have learned that while growing up. Confronting myself with others on internet helped. Long story short, I began thinking with my own head. I'm working to this day on myself everyday. I firmly believe people can change. Yet, according to antis, if they ever met me in my 20s I would have deserved to die. It's very scary

You know, it's kind of funny because I let go of some of my beliefs and changed my opinions as a young person because of tumblr. Because I was frequently confronted with differing information from people I followed and it helped me to see the world through other peoples' eyes. I understood that my experience was not the only experience.

It's interesting to see the Internet largely having an opposite effect, it seems, on so many younger folks today. I'm proud of us. Both of us for learning and growing and changing every day.

Philosophy Tube pointed out in an old video of hers that the difference between the right and the left is that the left will let you live if you give up your radical beliefs. But the right will not because they hate you for things you cannot change about yourself.

You can change if you racist thoughts, you can change if you have homophonic tendencies, you can change. But people have to be willing to give others the space to do that.

I am now convinced that most of the sympathy we see nowadays for Ucraina is not actually about believing in the just cause of Ucraine. I know deep in my heart the Western world don't care about post-socialist countries, or they care as long as it's playing on their own saviour complex.

Until a week ago, people couldn't even point Ucraina on the map. Just two examples from France news, look just how unimportant Eastern Europe is that they couldn't even place the name of the countries there right.

I fear this wave of support is mostly about a deep seeded hate for Russia, cemented by decades of red scare propaganda in the West, with little understanding that russian people are right now and have been for quite some time under an oppressive, anti-democratic system that they do not want. So please, when you go out of the way to punish your local Russian imigrant, when you decide not to buy from the local Russian shop in so called "solidarity" please be reminded that you are punishing people who have nothing to do with what is happening.

If you really care, donate and support the organisations in neighbouring countries that are helping refugees, especially those who venture in war torn Ukraine to bring provision to those who cannot flee. Refugees need accommodation, need transport, need provisions, need legal protection. They are vulnerable people scattered all over Eastern Europe and they need help.
