yk when I started reading toa I was kinda disappointed at the lack of power that apollo / lester had, bc pjo and hoo had their main characters be basically op, and this is literally a (former) god. apollo in tho made me cringe and reading his perspective was like looking at pills in an orange prescription bottle. but he was the whiny teenager that felt like an out-of-depth teenager more than the actually lived for years-in-teen-numbers, because they were more heroes and soldiers than teens, like they were supposed to be. he is simultaneously whiny child and responsible adult.

the moment I really latched onto him was when he basically dropped everything and tried to dive into the forest to go save his kids. bro wasn’t actually a selfish idiot like he kept making himself look like. bro was an emotionally constipated loving loser (affectionate) and loveable. he would risk the wrath of styx to save these kids. positively skrunkly

oh and his power! look guys the former protagonists always had some power to back them up, some good strength. this guy? first not demigod protagonist and he goes from straight up zero to launching a guy to the clouds with his bare hands. and tfw he uses his voiceTM. BEGONE SNAKE! and he acts so pathetic lol and if you look through whatever sunglasses he’s wearing and you look at the things from 3rd person pov dude what is he doing. he just flew off a road driving a car, and puts himself in front of the gremlin child to face one of those creepy zombie things that scream FOOD!!. bro straight up stabbed himself. bro sings the most heart wrenching song that even giant ants that don’t even understand what he’s saying get the point to the extent that they go catatonic with depression.

and holy cheez-its what kind of pain tolerance does this guy have?? dude??? you fell from the literal sky above the Empire State Building which like literal greek heaven (ouch) straight into a dumpster and then gets beat into unconsciousness by a pair of thugs under Nero like??? and with broken ribs, injured nose, hurt shoulder, etc. he walks up the stairs, runs through the woods insane. dude is literally insane. he gets flayed alive, forgets his other half, trapped in place by molten chains all at once and still trying trying to walk wth like this guy’s pain tolerance is beyond ouranos. idk how he does it I can’t even tolerate a hot summer day.

bro gives advice to a lost gremlin child who betrayed him anyway, helps her defeat her abuser the way he never could. and he grew, like everyone around him, to something better, something hopeful. “you’ve changed” heck yeah!! we love to see it

and humor?? like random mentions of things no one else in pjo would give you like playing the zither at 2am, godly toilet seat, ares roundhouse kick, waking up in Argentina. I love that they’re so offhand but they’re so funny and random

the haiku. they’re hilarious, works of art.

the characters. Chiron. Chiara. Damien. Austin. Kayla. Cecil. will. nico. Rachel. Lavinia. emmie. Josephine. heck even Commodus. lityerses. Abelard. Diana. frank. Jason. piper. the trogs. lu. reyna omg. meg. aaaaaaaaAAAAAAAA I love them so much! just how they fit in with his own journey of self and how they grow with him, like a garden, like an orchestra building its crescendo together, in unity. little things like reading frank’s admiration of apollo first in hoo, and now we get apollo’s side of it, and he’s so cute. Reyna’s whole journey of “finding the one who will heal her heart”. (gods I loved that thank you rick.) and will’s “dad!” and making apollo literally weep and meg: “the beast is dead. I killed it.” and taps her head and I'm just so proud of them.

“YOU ARE NO GOD!” he isn’t the same god who fell to earth in the winter. he likely won’t be ever the same ever again. ‘cause he’s gonna work to being better. he’s saving the world, but he’s also having a journey of his own self, rediscovering himself, building onto himself like everyone else, they’re all gonna be a better version of themselves.

this is solely for me to put all my thoughts in one place (kind of like a bingo board), feel free to interact with it though if you’d like

disclaimer: i've read the leaked preview and seen the video of rick showing the book off

i'm planning on:

trogs are definitely coming back, nico mentions their help because hades has forbidden him going to the voice in ToN and also there's this from the preview (x)

nico will at least have to acknowledge his solo tartarus trip which will make me yell and scream i hope he gets to share details of how fuckin horrible it was alone and without the mist ok (x)

general theories

maybe it's not Bob who wants out, maybe it's someone else (Michael Yew?) (x)

the idea of Nico telling the truth to will makes me excited and nervous…just had a thought about what if it’s like. the truth of how deep his self hatred goes/how scared he was/etc?? ouch (continuation of the HoH post)

so when I read the leaked preview I had this idea — Nico dreaming in shadows maybe is Styx, and then his mom would be his lifeline. Her calling to him would be her going to tell him to let go/move on/move forward and leave his past behind him...which would be something of equal/important value as Bob the Titan. Like Nico’s whole backstory/life/who he was. — and leaving Nico’s memories has definitely been tossed around at least, and I’d be curious if my first theory for this book was realized at all

Yk, I really loved your analysis and I'm so glad you agree with everything ive ever thought about., especially the voice related stuff.

Anyway, alot of people don't talk about this but i have thought about this for a while, yk given that will is insecure and thinks so low of himself and never acknowledges his achievements ot how powerful he is I feel like him having impostor syndrome is plausible.

Also ik he has insecurities but I dont necessarily think they are about healing its obvious, like one this that sticks out to me and I would talk for hours is when will was soo so reluctant to glow and did not like that apollo was proud of it and was prumpy throughout the trogs thing. I feel like he feels like a joke cuz there's everyone out there summoning skeletons and creating giant waves and there's will who can just glow

(Mind you this is his perspective not mine I don't think it's just a simple glowing, there's more to that power, I've talked about this before)

Like he is skilled and powerful but I feel like no one takes him seriously, cuz he's the most non threatening, non combatant person at camp and while he is powerful its not "showy" ifyk what I mean?

And being a night light makes him feel like a joke like it is a good power but I just feel like it just goes back to the whole sunshiney goody two shoes happy go lucky softbean will narrative and noone takes him seriously and make jokes about him glowing so given his insecurities and the way he reacted upon asked to glow I dont think the idea is not plausible.

(I just wanna give him a long warm hug and tell him how great he is)

Also with the ability vs skill thing since its all abilities he inherited from his father, I dont think he is ever proud of himself for all the stuff he does, like he could go, "I didnt work hard and get the skills it was just granted to me, I didn't do anything to be worth it". And that one line in TON where he would rather have apollo be proud of him for getting top of the class??instead of glowing?? Thats what made me think if it.

So even no matter how powerful he is and how skilled he is and my many ppl he saved! he still thinks he's not good enough and not worth it and not skilled enough (I'm just a healer is what he says) this is very obvious with his insecurities and it could also be a possible lead to impostor syndrome(its very common in people in the medical field)

Also IT IS CANON that ultrasonic whistle in not the only musical talent he has, it was stated that it is one of his few musical talents

I'm sorry this is so long, I just don't find ppl who are as passionate and invested about Will solace like me in this fandom that often.

Oh hey, wasn't expecting to wake up to an essay in my own inbox for a change, nice :D

Will certainly has insecurities by the bucket load, which is very sad but very true. It's primarily shown to us in this passage:

‘I agree,’ Will said. ‘I wish I was a better archer … I wouldn’t mind shooting my Roman relative off his high horse. Actually, I wish I could use any of my father’s gifts to stop this war.’ He looked down at his own hands with distaste. ‘Unfortunately, I’m just a healer.’

It's interesting that despite what he says, though, Will does exactly that - he is the one to stop the Greco-Roman war, using his ultrasonic whistle, which neatly proves his insecurities wrong here and shows him as far more powerful and versatile than he gives himself credit for.

His thoughts about being "just" a healer are understandable, though - his job is primarily after the battle is fought, picking up the pieces of the demigods that (to his mind) could fight and sticking them back together, but being reasonably useless until someone's already hurt. You could argue this was increased back in TLO, because Will would have seen Michael fall. It's never stated (but then again, even Percy doesn't see him fall), but considering all the Apollo kids barring Michael are off the bridge and Kronos himself is bearing down on them... all the surviving Apollo kids would've been watching. They couldn't afford not to be. So Will's seen first hand how quickly a life can be taken, and that no matter how fast or good he is, he still fails to save the most important people to him (we don't know where he was in relation to Lee when Lee died; it's unlikely he was in the fight itself, but regardless, those giant clubs are nasty and Lee's death would've been instantaneous).

Does this translate into imposter syndrome? I am a little hesitant to put that label onto him because something about it doesn't quite seem to fit for me, but there's certainly some indications of a similar mindset, even if it's not the syndrome itself. One of these is how Will talks about the powers compared to how his siblings do.

"My father's gifts", he calls it in that moment of self-depreciation. Not my abilities, or even my talents; he calls them gifts, as though they're not really his, or even as though he thinks he's been passed over entirely for some of them while Apollo chose to lavish them elsewhere.

In contrast, we have the way Austin and Kayla talk about them in THO:

“But you’re mortal?” Kayla asked. “As in completely mortal? Does that mean I’m going to lose my archery skills? I can’t even qualify for the Olympics until I’m sixteen!” “And if I lose my music…” Austin shook his head. “No, man, that’s wrong. My last video got, like, five hundred thousand views in a week. What am I supposed to do?”

My. They have no doubts at all that the abilities they have are theirs. They're aware that they inherited them from Apollo, and they're worried that somehow they might disappear if Apollo dies (in Kayla's case she's literally worried that she, born literally of Apollo, might disappear), but they have no hesitation about claiming their abilities as their own.

(Interestingly, the one time Will calls an ability 'his', it's when he's being derogatory about it. "[...] a truly awful whistle", he says - the one thing he claims as his is the one potentially destructive ability he's showcased that people complain at him for.)

Will's reaction to Apollo's praise about the glowing reads to me like a little bit of shame (because he's comparing it to all the other neat demigod powers he's seen and "oh gods, all I do is glow, really?") but also just straight up insecurity - which Apollo sees and does not rise to the bait of.

‘I’m so proud,’ I said. Will’s face turned the colour of sunlight shining through a glass of cranberry juice. ‘Dad, I’m just glowing . I’m not graduating at the top of my class.’ ‘I’ll be proud when you do that, too,’ I assured him.

Remember that Will, as a demigod, is ADHD and dyslexic - while that doesn't automatically mean he can't be top of the class, it does make it a lot harder to do, so in this instance he's giving Apollo an out of "here's an example that you actually ought to be proud of... even though it'll never happen," because he doesn't actually believe that Apollo's as proud as he is. And yet, Apollo's response is instant, unwavering faith - "when you do that, too". (Obviously, Apollo is currently lacking his foresight abilities, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's forgotten what he has seen, and the confidence with which he says this might just be him reassuring Will, but also empty reassurance is pretty dangerous to do for someone whose self-esteem is so low, so there's a decent chance that Apollo remembers seeing that Will will do that.) He completely turns Will's self-depreciation around on its head like "you're amazing for this, you'll be amazing in the future, you're amazing whichever way we slice this so take the compliment."

And yes, Will is grumpy/unimpressed about the whole trogs thing - it's not just the fact that he's being viewed as a convenient light source by the trogs, he's been vocally opposed to the entire encounter from start to end.

But something I find interesting is that, for someone who's embarrassed about it and reluctant to do it in the first place (and honestly, I get the feeling that Will discovered this power by accident, probably when being dragged around dark places by his boyfriend, and was so embarrassed he never even showed it to anyone else), when we see him again in the tower - he's glowing.

He doesn't need to be glowing in the tower. There's plenty of light around, no-one's been struggling to see. His glow is also being described as bright, this time, rather than the subtle descriptions Apollo applied earlier. This is Will Solace, child of the sun god, using the light to show exactly who he is, and that's such a marked change from his attitude earlier where he was reluctant to turn on the glow even when it was pitch dark and the others (even Nico) needed it to see. This is Will being proud of what he's got. He's showing it off here, really - and the only reason I can think of is that Apollo gave it a solid mark of approval. He got affirmation about this particular ability from Apollo, Apollo explicitly told him he was proud of him for being able to do it, and that seems to have boosted his confidence in it.

This bit I'm gonna disagree with, though. The fandom, from what I've seen, packages Will into this little box (I've seen posts going around about him being exactly this), but in canon there's no evidence at all that he's not taken seriously by his fellow campers (or, actually, that Will is happy go lucky - he has strong morals and does not back down in the face of disagreements or conflict. Look at his interaction with Travis about stealing in TLO, his scolding of Annabeth about breaking the chariot in TLH, his scolding of Nico in BOO, and Apollo in THO; a consistent character trait right from his first appearance is that he's not afraid to stand his ground/disagree with more powerful/older/generally feared characters). In fact, he's probably well-respected in camp.

‘She’s right.’ Will Solace, head counsellor for the Apollo cabin, put his hand gently on Clarisse’s wrist. Not many campers could’ve done that without getting stabbed, but Will had a way of defusing people’s anger. He got her to lower her dagger.

Will has Clarisse's respect. It's shown here, where she doesn't lash out at him (unlike her interactions with Michael in TLO), it's also heavily implied in the fact that Will delivered Chuck - Clarisse is incredibly protective of Mellie and it's Will that she let near her in her vulnerable state. Not because Will isn't a threat, but because Clarisse trusted Will enough.

He has Nico's respect before their BOO encounter, "the camp's best combat medic", he has the respect of all the head counsellors in that meeting (not one of them interrupt him or disagree with him).

He has Annabeth's respect - she backs down and apologises to him even though she's still very wound up about Percy being gone and the Jason hint being a bust.

Hell, he has Dionysus' respect. There are very few demigods whose names Dionysus gets right - Will's is one of them, on more than one occasion.

I'm honestly not actually sure where this "sunshine goody two shoes happy-go-lucky softbean" fandom take comes from, unless it's literally taking one or two lines and twisting them a long way out of context, because that's not the Will we see in canon at all.

I'm pretty new to this fandom, and honestly I stay away from most of it because a lot of the Will takes I've seen around I don't agree with but I also refuse to get involved in anything that might start spiralling into drama (made that mistake in other fandoms, not making it again) so I only lurk on the edge of this one, and that's where I'll stay, but I did latch onto Will and find him fascinating to poke at and see what makes him tick, so I'm always happy to talk about him :D

I am glad you enjoy my writing, though! My plan is to be here to stay at least for a while, and there's a sore lack of Apollo&Will content, or even just non-Solangelo Will-centric content around on AO3 so that's mostly where I'm foreseeing hanging out (although I am also dabbling in Solangelo because while there is a lot of content for that, I find the way it's often portrayed to again not actually go with the canon we have, and as the old adage goes, "if you can't find something you like, write it yourself." So that's exactly what I'm doing!)

50. #Archie

Well, with one of the major nuts skedoodling, there’s room for one more. I hear through the grapevine (Doho) that the Depressed German got booted from her new accommodations. Seems she lasted three days at a hostel in Santa Monica before they threw her out for spewing “Verpiss dich! Depp!” when a staffer told her to stop running around in her translucent underwear. The staffer evidently understood German and once she put her clothes on, had her removed. Now, Valda is living in Gerda, her prize Pinto, wearing whatever she wants.

The Trog, on the other hand, was making haste for a new nut. But fortunately, or unfortunately, not having a lot of luck. She interviewed about a dozen people before landing on a chiropractic student that Todd met while checking out a Mac & Cheese socks booth at his favorite Silver Lake flea market. They hit it off over a love of foot warmers.

Anyway, the guy’s name was Archie. And like the comic books, he was a ginger, a bit scrawny and a joke-teller. Every time he walked out the door, he’d yell, “back in a snap.” Oh, Archie. I think Todd wanted me to have an ally in the Nuthouse, plus I think he had a little crush on Archie.

Well, Archie only lasted two nights. Longer than I anticipated.

The Trog was in the living room, pacing. And shouting “Agent, Agent, Agent” into her phone which was on speaker. Her shouting coincided with the thundering march of her flat feet. Of course, the automated customer service was not paying any attention. So the Trog kept repeating “Agent” over and over, faster and faster, louder and louder. Everyone could hear. Even ‘the Crapper’ kids had creeped in and were watching from the kitchen. I was on the stairs, out of view. Comical as it was, it was alarming. She was out of control. Peeking through the railing, I could see she was sweating and about to burst a myriad of vessels.

Archie came forward and offered, “a crack?” as Doho came booming through the front door, “What’s going on?” At the same time the monotonous phone muzak abruptly halted with a pleasant voice, “This is Dora, how can I help?” The Trog exploded at all the activity and accidently hung up. She went ballistic, stomping on poor Yoda and shrieking some undetectable language.

Everyone scattered for fear of retaliation. And Archie had enough. The Trog had already sent him a “Crime & Punishment” note about an apparent faux pas and his allergies had flared, due to mold and Trog proximity. He swiftly packed up and fled in the middle of the night. I was sad to see him go but happy he’d escaped the Nuthouse syndrome.

I finally got around to watching part 4 of Disenchantment, and figured I should post some Thoughts like I used to. Just watched through episode 5, and boy is it fun being approximately right about several things!

Namely:

-the destiny Dagmar was going on about for Bean was just another arranged marriage, although that was clear enough by the finale of the last part. At least one of the destinies, anyway.

-Elfo’s backstory; well that was kind of a gimme after the heavy signposting in part 3, but I love that my analysis of the cross-stitch was pretty close, and that I absolutely nailed Elfo being the queen’s firstborn and heir to the throne. And I love all the little details I like to notice about Elfo being incredibly good at violence and stabbing things for a little elf man and so on added up. I do kinda wish they had explained the notch in Elfo’s ear since they pointed it out in part 3 and he clearly doesn’t remember how he got it, but whatever. I adored seeing tiny baby Elfo and would like additional tiny Elfo flashbacks if possible please.

-people being turned into the monsters of Maru is an actual plot point, and it seems like the imperial family has the ability to stop it happening, if not also personal immunity. That’s very similar to a wild guess I made after part one you guys

-and Maru coming after the magic of Dreamland. I’m not sure whether to still suspect that disappearing stone the trogs mined, since it hasn’t really come up again and Dagmar had control of it. Of course, Dagmar also seems like she has her own agenda separately from Becky and Cloyd, soooo

(Okay, now I suspect that the magic of Dreamland is tied up with it being the long-lost home of the elves. A quality of the land that humans couldn’t make effective use of, something that departed when the elves did, or maybe magic just seeped into the place with like. buried dead elves. coming out of their bones or something.)

Things I am still waiting on:

-the mermaid connection to Dreamland, especially the Battle of Falling Water, and whether it or the elves being driven out is related to the bonkers cliffside and river

-Elfo’s heritage being mentioned or talked about. I assume he probably told the other two right away and we just didn’t get to see that and they probably didn’t care much, but I would enjoy having it brought up sometimes. and maybe have it be a big deal to the elves or something. Or at least a line like “oh yeah, I’m actually a prince. Yeah. Heir to the throne of Ogreland as it turns out. No big deal.”

-what we were shown of Bean’s destiny during the first visit to Maru does not match her arranged marriage to Satan, and my feeling is that the Satan marriage is specifically a Dagmar plot, that she pushed Bean to it in order to get out of doing it herself—although I would like to know what the deal was, and assume we’ll be seeing Hell Queen Dagmar some more later in the season. And the screw crown is more of a whole family or Cloyd and Becky thing, perhaps related to the way they want to leech the magic out of Dreamland or whatever. I mean, the fact that they tried the screw crown on Jerry definitely makes it seem like a different thing. We’ll see I guess.

-Odval’s backstory. I still love him as ruthlessly lawful neutral, and I’ll talk about the secret society plot later, but it really puzzles me that he clearly knows what guns are, and he has a round globe, and three eyed people are quite rare, but he doesn’t seem to be from Steamland, or have anything in his history to make people genuinely consider him a threat. I know he puts the needs of his secret society first, then the kingdom, then the royal family, then individual members of the royal family, all while being strictly lawful neutral, but what is his deal, man?

-and then, the secret society. That seems like a final season sort of reveal, and I don’t know if we are there yet. The secret society—aside from orgies—seems mostly interested in manipulating kingdoms to maintain order, but we’ve seen only orgies and the ground floor view of plots, never anything more elaborate or overarching. And they clearly want the cursed royal family of Dreamland off the throne and out of the way, but why? I mean, I think it made perfect sense for Odval to plot to get the unstable and difficult royal family fully out of the way for the good of the kingdom, and I guess I’m not totally clear on to what extent he was plotting under his own initiative for the good of the kingdom, or plotting under the direction of the secret society to advance their goals. It was obviously the latter by the time the curse came into play, and it’s probably fair to assume that Odval and the Archdruidess being in cahoots to puppet Derek for their own interests way back when was at least aligned with the secret society’s goals, if not actively pursuing them... but I think I need to do some more careful rewatching and note taking before can figure out a sound theory about all that. Anyway, I think it would be hilarious if the secret society’s goal involved the abolition of royalty and installing some form of democracy, but that is an extremely wild guess and it doesn’t seem like something many people we have seen on this show would be into. Maybe a democracy where only the members of the secret society get votes, or something.

-and of course we really haven’t seen what the trio being the saviors of the trogs actually means, but that also seems like later-season stuff.

I can’t think of anything else that really caught my brain’s fancy. I’ll be watching more tomorrow night, and possibly finishing it.

I was going to post this shot before the end of the year because it was such a spectacular sunset and closing moment at TROG Flabob blah, blah, blah, but, well, you know how it goes. So, happy 2023 and here’s to many more happenings just as amazing as this one was!! . This was shot on 4x5 film near the closing of TROG at the Flabob Airport last December. I remember this exact moment so well because I almost didn’t make this photograph because I was so enjoying the moment. It was absolutely picture perfect – with the sun setting, the palm trees waving, the sounds and smells of drag racing and the absolutely perfect vibe – and I was loving it. I had in my hands my 1930ish Graflex SLR and the sun was shining almost directly into my lens. Lenses this old are not coated to fight glare so I thought that there was very little chance that this photograph would come out anyway but at the last minute I quickly focussed and pressed the shutter release. As Wayne Gretzky famously said “You miss 100% of the shots that you don’t take” and I am glad that I took the chance to take this one. . Thank you, Mel and the entire TROG team again for making this happen. alright random nico headcannons bc i’m bored:

• he once broke into a museum to try and animate a dinosaur skeleton only to find out the display ones are mostly made of plaster and uhhh that ends about as well as you can expect

• rachel makes him summon skeletons when she needs anatomy references

• he doesn’t do a lot of art himself but he absolutely adores every form of it. like the hades cabin is full of books and he doesnt understand spotify so he has tons of vynls and he lets hazel draw on the bunks and walls and his arms and he and rachel can talk for hours about art history and!!!! he just appreciates art so much

• speaking of music nico will listen to anything literally any genre EXCEPT country (which is really just bc he doesnt click with it but he loudly speaks against it just to piss Will off)

• he’s not like Strictly vegetarian but he avoids eating meat if he can bc it just tastes like death to him

• he’s really akward around younger kids bc he’s worried he’s gonna say or do something thats gonna mess up the kid forever but when he does talk to them he treats them like adults and they love him for it

• sometimes he tells absolutely wild stories with a straight face just to see if he can get away with it (he can) and now camp has no idea what stories about him are true and which aren’t

• like he went “yeah i was born in 1932” and they all went “haha very funny” but then believed him when he said he’s seen bigfoot

• sally jackson invited him over for christmas the december after boo and he very admantly refused but sally kept insisting and long story short now he has a key to their apartment and she knows all his favorite desserts

• he lied about not liking animals he really fucking likes animals guys he just said that to make himself feel better about the fact that they don’t like him back

• HE IS A POLYGLOT THIS IS BASICALLY CANNON he already knew like four languages just by existing the way he does but then jules albert showed up so he took up french and then he felt bad about the language barriers at camp w/ international campers so he started learning all of their languages and then asl looked interesting so he started learning that and then the TROGS so on and so forth and now he knows random bits and pieces of different languages

• also linguistics nerd nico ??? classics nerd nico??? history nerd nico??? absolutely yes he may not be able to do basic algebra but he can and will rant about obsure historical events or og goth mary shelly if you’re willing to listen

• Mr. D originally didn’t call Nico the right name but Nico is living on pure spite so he pointedly ignored him every single time until D eventually caved (but theyre both stubborn as fuck so this lasted MONTHS and honestly if nico and mr d hadn’t started Therapy Breakfast Time it probably would have never ended)

• he still checks in on May Castellen every few months or so to make sure she’s doing alright (percy comes with sometimes)

Soooo Disenchantment thoughts...

Okayyyy warning....

I'm warning you.....

Spoiler ahead....

WARNING LAST TIME DON'T READ UNLESS YOU WANT SPOILERS..... Sooooo I loved the show. Bean has her moments but she has developed a lot since the beginning of the show. Been waiting foreverrr to see her and Mora again! And I hope its to stay... hope? not gonna lie its obvious this show ends on cliff hangers sooo just hope this is a good one.

Soo anything I'm hoping for next story? I guess to be rid of Dagmar and her annoying siblings. I get it they're the main baddies but even Futurama ended a season on a good note sometimes. Cliff hangers get tiresome for me XD. But I can live it.

Uhhh besides that, Dagmar's just becoming an annoying over complicated villian. At least with her plans. Like at the wedding, even though Bean made a switcheroo on her. She doesn't look mad. She just acts like this is what she wanted. I'm like "Well why the hell do this then? Why put Bean through this if you would have married Satan anyway?" And even when her doppelganger plan fell through as well she's just "heh I can work with this".

Maybe she's suppose to be a dumb/or quick villain. Or maybe its the curse affecting her. Either wayyy... just think those last two plots weren't needed. Uhh still want things to improve for Derek. Annoying or not he's still a kid. Just wish his family would care about him more. Though I do admit I liked that his half-brother Jasper soon became his buddy. I think he needed that companionship. Hope the Zog clan can all reunite and be a dysfunctional but loving family. I mean really do believe it (even if he fails) that Zog geuninely wants to be a good dad and love his kids.

And I guess I wanna know whats the BIG thing behind the castle/Zog's family curse and the Trogs? I get SOME idea. Its just guessing. Its obvious, what went on between humans and the elves/and mermaids? was a ref to colonization. Whether it was Zog's side or Dagmar's one of them played dirty and won the war. But kicked them out... which might explain why Mora was acting like she wasn't allowed near Bean. If the mermaids were on the elves side.

That means that Mora's people or her mother remembers the war and sees the romance as a problem. Maybe? I do there's SOME connection(just dunno how) to Cremorrah's fall (thats on her mother's side sooo dunno entirely).

And as for the Trogs (cave ones, not the water ones.... eww that worm scene grossed me the hell out)... just trying to figure out how they play in this. Its clear that they see Bean/or Elfo as saviors but to what? 8B

I guess I also wanna know whats Alva's connection with Satan too? And WHY are they all after this one dang kingdom? I mean I still wonder whats’ the point of Odval/ Sorcerio when it seems they still follow the royal family’s orders... also made me wonder why Ooona didn’t get more revenge on their society for killing Yog? But this wasn’t Oona themed season. Hope to see you next season hon :D well more of her:B.

Also kinda hoping Bean gets off her anti-magic stance. Its not that I don't understand her reasoning. I just kinda find it dumb considering that all things including her girlfriend are somewhat magic related. Plus science/or stience as she pronounced it, isn't all candies and roses 8B... looking at Steamland all I saw was "pollution". Not saying I'm anti-technology, haha or I wouldn't be writing this. Just saying it has its own drawbacks if it as a tool isn't used properly. But I think that might be part of Bean's arc. Learning to accept the balance of both worlds.

Oh also YES dogs in heaven (sorry cat lovers8B) but also a YES that Barko the dog survived. Watching Elfo’s origin story the “what happened to the dog” answer was adorable XD. Barko’s got a whole pack lol.

The first time Nico met the son of Poseidon, of course his first thought went to pirates. He was and always would be a pirate kid at heart.

However, his second thought went to the fact that he was a demigod of the sea.

You see, at Weston Hall, he was a sea kid. You know space kids and dino kids? He was a sea kid.

Really, ask him anything about it and he could tell you. Of course, he didn’t know as much as he did mythomagic, and mythomagic would always take precedence, but his heart belonged to the sea as much as any sailor’s did.

Of course, before he could start to ask Percy any questions about his secondary Special Interest, he had to ask about mythomagic, which led to more questions. And of course, he couldn’t be rude. He had to ask about Annabeth.

But then... then Bianca left him. And he had to focus on that.

And then the quest happened.

And then Minos, the war, Hazel, the prophecy of 7, Tartarus, the Jar...

Life got in the way. And he forgot everything he used to be interested in in exchange for useful, pressing information. Information like the Trogs.

But there was one night in camp half blood where he and Percy were sitting around cabin 13 after everyone left the get together/group therapy without a therapist session.

Nico had been around others long enough that he had finally started to open up and allowed himself to form relationships and ask questions. Percy broke the ice by asking Nico how his home in the underworld was, but this somehow led to the conversation where Nico asked everything his ten year old self was dying to ask about.

“Do Octopi talk? Are they cool? What do Octopi tend to eat? When I was learning I thought it was fish but I wouldn’t be surprised if I was wrong. Also--”

“Woah Nico hahaha slow down! One question at a time.” Percy loved seeing Nico like this again. He missed the perky kid he met once upon a time, even though he wanted to throw him off the side of a cliff at the moment.

Nico loved all the answers he got and excitedly relayed the information to Will and Hazel the next day.

I love a happy nico. Well, I love Nico in general. *glances at url* anyway. Thank you ghost!!!!!!

Just my thoughts on Tower of Nero

SPOILER ALERT

• Ok. Let's start. First of all, I think this book is just right final for the whole PJO series. Honestly. I've been in this fandom for six years now. And going through this book made me want to read those books again, live and experience all those adventures once again.

• But even if I found it as a worthy ending, I still feel like something important ended in my life. Like graduating school, it left me this nostalgic feeling and I don't know if I'm happy or sad, if I want to laugh or cry.

• But let's discuss the book itself now. First of all: SOLANGELO. Really, they're not just sweet, they're that kind of relationship I'd want for me. I mean they're so proctevice, and supportive, and loving I can't.

• Also Nico's PTSD is canon now guys. And strangely it makes me feel a little pleased. Knowing what he has been through, I'm not surprised. I would've been more surprised if he didn't have PTSD. Also Will helping him with this just make my heart melt ❤❤❤

• I apologize, Rick, but Will has a tattoo????? Do you want my death. I literally can't stop thinking about.

• I'm pretty sure we'll have solangelo trip to Tartarus next year or so. And yes, they will be saving Bob the Titan.

• Will protecting Nico is just the best thing in the whole series.

• I believe, knowing that Rachel had spoken a prophecy about Will and Nico's upcoming guest, Tower of Nero is actually not the last book of PJO universe.

• Ok, enough with solangelo. Let's talk about Lester/Apollo. I can't decide if I'm pleased with the ending or not, but I would have been much happier if he remained being mortal. Him coming back to Olympus was a little unnatural for me.

• Also, I didn't like the fact that he just stand down for Zeus. I mean, he literally admitted him as his abuser, and still he decided to stay with his tyranny.

• But anyway, Apollo's arc was so beautiful throughout the whole series. Seeing him being narcissistic, self-centered god in the beginning and now knowing him as an amazing character, you had so much development, who finally understood the importances of this life and became a great hero just makes me feel proud. This is probably one of the best character development I've ever seen

• Meg getting her happy ending just made me feel so, so happy. I literally cried through the last chapter, because all this abuse and suffering she's been through made her so strong.

• Percy and Annabeth in college is a wonderful ending to their story. It just has to be this way. They're together. They're happy. But I still hope to them further, maybe in little cameos in Magnus Chase, maybe in an upcoming Nico's novel. I will miss them so much.

• Leo helping homeless kids makes me feel so proud of him. I hope he'll be happy and safe in his new Waystation home.

• Also his complicated relationship with Calypso had brought some development here that their couple never had. Maybe we'll see them again.

• Reyna and Thalia having a great time as Hunters of Artemis. That's it, that's the tweet.

• Frank and Hazel being praitors together is something worth living for. I love them with my whole heart.

• Expanding shrines in Camp Jupiter made me weeping. Because... well.

• Now the sad part. Jason Grace. I don't know what is wrong with me, but I just don't buy it. I can't take. My brain is still stuck in those moments of HOO when he was alive, happy and with us. I don't even feel pain about his death, because I didn't accept it. To me, he's still alive. I love Jason Grace. He was truly the best.

• Jason's death makes me feel so salty about the endings of all the seven. I know it's ok for them to be over it and having their happily ever after, but still. This is so unfair. Why did everyone had their happy endings, when Jason just died?! Didn't he deserve to be happy?! JUST WHY? It makes me so angry and sad.

• Also personal opinion now guys. I never liked Piper. I don't know why. And her ending in Tower of Nero made me like her even less. I know that she has right to move on, to be happy but... It makes me feel like their whole relationship with Jason was a joke. Maybe I don't understand something. Maybe I don't understand her. But Jason literally died for her. I can't blame her, and I'm not blaming her, but she makes me feel sorry for Jason.

• I loved how Rick brought new characters and everyone loved them. Lavinia, Lu, trogs, Meg's siblings. Even not being main characters, they still had good arc.

• Also Nero's character is so developed. I think he was the best villain of PJO so far.

Part 36: Trogs. Because I love them.

In short: Nico gets therapy from Dionysus. In this chapter, Apollo, Nico and Dionysus talk about the troglodytes. The rest can be found on AO3, FanFiction.net and in Tumblr tags like Nico di Angelo, Dionysus, pjo etc.

This Might Be Crazy: Chapter 36: Green Smoothie

‘Nico?’ I looked up and saw that none other than the great god Apollo was standing in front of Will and me. ‘Can you come with me, for a second?’

‘Eh, yes.’ I handed the mental health flyer I had been working on to Will and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek before I get up.

‘Come, we should talk at the Big House.’

‘Eh, okay. Hello, by the way.’

He chattered the whole way to the Big House, but did not say a word about what brought him to camp. When we stepped onto the porch, I leaned against one of the wooden beams. ‘So, why did you need me?’

‘Oh! I have been working on a project concerning the trogs. I think Olympus should make amendments with them, but for that, it might be important to know how you met them in the first place.’ Ah. Hm. ‘Yet, if you want to finish those flyers first...’

‘No, I can do that later as well.’ I actually wanted to talk about the trogs, more even if it could be helpful.

‘Okay!’ He skipped to one of the chairs. I followed.

‘So, one day I was...’

‘Hold up.’ Dionysus walked onto the porch . He snapped his fingers and a green smoothie appeared next to me. ‘Mind if I join in? I think it might be important to hear.’

I stared at the smoothie. ‘What…’

‘Thematic appropriateness.’

Ah, what the heck. I took a sip and it tasted fine. Fresh, fruity, sweet.

Dionysus made a third chair appear next to us. I looked at Apollo, who was looking at me. ‘It is fine with me,’ I answered. ‘Yet, as I wanted to say, I was wandering around New York city one day. I think it was a few weeks before I started therapy. So I was not in the best mindset.’ I slowly shook my head. Not at all.

Dionysus and Apollo both nodded.

‘I wandered into an alley. There, I found a strange, frog-like creature. Later I learned that he was a troglodyte.’ Wait a second. ‘Don’t ask why I was in a dark, New York side alley.’

Dionysus raised one of his eyebrows. ‘Hm. Perhaps some other time.’ That was to be expected.

‘Ah, anyway, at first neither me nor the trog moved. We only stared at each other for a little while, until he came a little closer to take a look. I did not move.’ I looked at the green smoothie. ‘When he was really close, he narrowed his eyes and said in accentless English: “you smell like you come from the ground, but you don’t look like it. And where is your hat?”’ I shrugged and took a sip. ‘I decided to play along. So I told him my hat got blown away and that I am familiar with the world under the ground, but also that I have never seen someone like him. He raised his chin and told me to come back in three days.’

I thought for a second. ‘I had no reason to, but I decided to do what he asked. I even wore a hat. Lo and behold, he was in the alley again, with two more of his kind. One of them was wearing an absolutely ridiculous pile of hats.’ I turned to Apollo. ‘You know what I mean.’

Apollo chuckled. ‘Yes. I do.’

I chuckled. ‘Ridiculous hatpile eyed me up and down before saying I should tell him what I was, because otherwise they’d have to eat me. Actually, they had to eat me anyway, but if I could explain myself, maybe they didn’t.’ I shrugged. ‘It was mildly confusing, but it seemed like I had no choice...’

‘You could have shadow travelled away,’ Dionysus commented.

‘It seemed like I had no choice,’ I continued, ‘So I decided to be honest. Mostly. I told them I am the son of a chtonic god. That made their behaviour change a little, they became more respectful. They told me I should see their kingdom and that they would even cut open a fish for me. I was curious, and not in a very self-preserving mindset, so I went with them.’ I pretended to not see Dionysus’ stern look. ‘From that point on, I went to them more often and I slowly began to learn more about the trogs. They told me about their customs and their ways and eventually, they began to accept and appreciate me. And the other way around, of course. They also learned about humans from me.’

Apollo opened his mouth to say something, but Dionysus was quicker: ‘I knew there was something with those creatures, but I did not know you initially went with them out of self destruction.’

I looked at my green smoothie. ‘It wasn’t self-destruction, per se. Anyway, I shouldn’t be lingering in the past. It is over now.’

‘Hm. Are you sure that sense of self-destruction is entirely over, Nico?’

I shrugged. ‘That is not why I go to the Trog now,’ I tried to defend myself. ‘I know they are friends. They won’t hurt me.’

‘They respect him and he respects them. They were friends to us,’ Apollo muttered.

Dionysus looked at the table. ‘I think both of you speak the truth. Yet, Nico...’ He slowly shook his head.

‘...I get it. But, I think it is still important that Olympus allies with the Trogs. We…’ I nudged my head at Apollo, ‘... found out they can be a huge help when something is threatening the universe.’

Dionysus proceeded to stare straight into my soul, but he stayed silent.

I looked at the table. ‘I really understand what you mean, Dionysus. I promise I will be more careful next time.’

He slowly nodded. ‘I believe you, Nico. I trust that you won’t do it again. All I ask is that you don’t break that trust. Not with me and not with yourself.’

I nodded. Apollo swallowed. ‘Ehm… I did not know that, Nico…’

‘Well, I never told you. And now the trogs are good friends to us. Making amendments with them is still a good idea.’

Apollo peaked at Dionysus, who nodded. ‘It is. Now that you know the origin story and we know some of their customs, we can set up an allyship.’

Apollo nodded, a little more confident. ‘Yes. But, Nico, I agree with Dio. You should take care of yourself.’

It was silent for a moment, until Dionysus scraped his throat. ‘If Apollo does not have anymore questions, I think you can go, Nico.’

Apollo jumped up. ‘Yes! If the bond is coming along, I’ll come back to you. Now you should go back to Will.’

I nodded and quickly got up. It felt like I should not have said some of these things.

‘Dio, I…’

‘I understand you did not know any of that. I must say, I had a hunch, but I never knew…’ he shrugged. ‘I really believe that you two speak the truth when you say the trogs are your friend. Yet, he went with them when he was in a bad place. That is important for me to analyse.’

Apollo looked at the table. ‘I think I have a project to work on,’ he muttered.

‘Take some time to think before you do so,’ Dionysus suggested.

Apollo got up from the table. ‘Will do.’ He ran a hand through Dionysus hair.

‘Don’t do that!’

‘I’ll do that whenever I want. Perks of being the older brother.’ He gave Dionysus a wide grin, before disappearing back to Olympus.

A/N: okay this chapter is kind of ‘when you tell your parents a funny story, but they turn it into a lecture.’ Yet, also, it is very true.

This was originally going to be just Nico and Dionysus, but I figured this was better. Next chapter is Tartarus.

Pain is looking through chapters you wrote a while ago and seeing small mistakes you definitely knew were mistakes at the time, you just did not catch them while editting. I know I definitely made a few mistakes in this one.

Yeah it is a 'spinach smoothie' or a 'cumcumber smoothie' or whatever. Sh, it tastes like green.

Okay right Trix analysis time: Icy was talking about how that "totally drained" her while slouching massively, fair enough. Darcy just agreed while doing the //exact same position// now, from what we've seen, Darcy is actually the most powerful but tends to hide it, so could it be that she's just immitating Icy's posture to simulate exhaustion? (I still think she's low on power, just not to the extent she's projecting). Then Stormy's at the back walking upright, still looking tired but no where near as much as the other two. Since there's no way Stormy's the most powerful this leaves us with two options (if we assume Darcy's faking): Icy's the weakest Trix OR Icy's Gloomix was designed to drain her of far more power than Darcy or Stormy due to her bravado tricking Darkar into believing she's the most powerful. I think the second seeing as Darcy's and Stormy's are functionally identical while Icy's is clearly very different. Anyway, theory over
