Nikolai and the Darkling have a history which makes their relationship really interesting and gives their potential dynamic a lot of flavor. It's fascinating to think about all of the impressions they left behind on the other before parting.

Their views on Ravka, leadership, and sacrifice are incredibly similar, which makes their dynamic even more compelling. The Darkling's tactical but morally gray plans to help the grisha align frequently with Nikolai's own practical political ideas about how to help Ravka. They compliment each other a lot when it comes to the necessary requirements of strategic genius and emotional appeal in a leader, and they both care a lot about their people, considering the cost of keeping those people safe to be a high but necessary one.

They both have a darkness within them. That the Darkling put Nikolai's there only makes the potential conflict all the better. I love thinking about how their demons would connect and the impact it would have on them.

They both consider using someone to achieve their political goals acceptable. The concept of them using each other for their own ends is 👌👌👌

#just thinking thoughts... #i went back to read its opening chapter a while ago and the only thing that stood out to me as bad was the breasts obsession #everything else was really good... #sorry. thinking abt this because i just started reading shoukoku no altair just now and like #i think it wants to be like midseries magi but is falling short in several aspects #firstly there's not enough love in the backgrounds imo. #the sense of the world isn't good (though i think part of it is due to the scanlators not translating the map labels?!) #but it's just like... it somehow feels generic even though there's a VERY specific time and place they're drawing from #and like the pacing of that first chapter... it's just so close. they didn't need that 1 page spread of mahmut trying to find evidence #if you were going to show that you needed to at least commit to the bit and show his thoughts getting more desperate #if the whole gimmick is that they used the wrong type of feather for the arrow this is how it should have gone. #he looks at the arrow early on (i don't think he looks at it until the end) -> #he starts looking for evidence and asking people around. during this time he is getting visibly desperate -> #at the end of the day he sadly pets his falcon feeling as though he had failed and WHILE HE IS STROKING HIS PET BIRD'S WINGS #he recalls the type of feather on the shaft. that's how it should have gone. #that's how it should have gone. #also since a lot of the words are turkish i think it also introduced too many unfamiliar thoughts names and concepts all at once #like it could have been clearer that pasha was a title and not a surname #i like that all the characters had monikers to help people remember them but again. #too much worldbuilding too fast #it's kind of giving de with the information overload but the key difference in that is #in de infodump is opt-in and not required for the actual plot #i think shoukoku no altair has a built world but everyone already knows how it works and it wouldn't make narrative sense #to explain it in depth through the dialogue #anyways. it IS interesting reading it because it's like. ALMOST there. #i anticipate it getting better rather than worse

Here's Pavitr's design in my Prowler Pavitr au akjdskjdskjkskdsk! It's my au where Pavitr is a fallen hero who used to be Spider-Man and becomes the Prowler, fueled by rage against a world and a system that forced him to pretend at perfection and then only hurt him and the people he loves.

I love him so much,, I have so much stuff in progress about him rn (working on the fics too). Gonna have chaipunk front and center, and like four separate plot arcs, I'm so insane about this au actually -

Anyway here's some infodump about his design inspirations and symbolism I put in it, I loveeeee talking abt him:

Hair -

Okay so this is after some time, like a couple months since Pav became the Prowler, and he's grown his hair out a bit now. It's kind of a mix of rejection of the "masculine" standard of short cropped hair by flaunting his longer curls that he's always been proud of and even had to grow to love He also dyes his hair purple! Bc he didn't wanna cut his hair but he wanted to do something to set himself apart from his old identity and also he's literally an impulsive 17-18 year old and wanted to do something that felt like owning his own self and asserting autonomy over his body etc etc

Something Borrowed -

The tie that he's using to tie back his hair is his original blue headband!! It doesn't go with his outfit at all but It's the original blue headband that Maya Aunty got for him all those years ago that he's been wearing forever and it snapped and broke in the battle that preceded what happened to her, and he still keeps it and ties his hair back with it instead The nosering (nath) used to be Gayatri's, they used to try out her jewelry on him and he loved that one so much she gifted it to him, and since he's basically left his old life and gone no contact with her it's all he has left of Gaya too

Main Outfit -

His jacket is loosely based on Krrish's leather jacket from the Bollywood movie series that's about a superhero named Krrish. I just think it has the dramatique and vibe Pav would like He binds his chest bc he still hadn't had top surgery but he's way more open about it, with the binding showing through the neck of the jacket now where he would have never dared to hint at it before,,, another thing about how he doesn't care about people's opinions and perceptions and standards anymore, he wants to say fuck you as much to everything in the system as he can and also piss people off while he's at it and a trans antihero/villain is a surefire way to do that. His dhoti is basically a dhoti pant, modified a bit bc i liked it

He has payals on his feet that make a faint chhan chhan noise when he approaches which has creepiness and cuteness potential imo I basically turned the prowler logo into his dhoti belt buckle askjdsjk

It's also slightly modified to mimic a trishul or even a diya shape, up for interpretation either way, bc trishuls are a symbol of Shiva, god of destruction, and diyas are a symbol of light in the darkness and the need to find it Also the chain around the dhoti at his hips is both a reference to decorative dhoti chain accessories and the lil things on it are his modified grenades that he uses for arson, bc Prowler Pav is big on arson and murder ajajsjsj

Prowler Claws -

His bangles/claws were hands down my favourite part to design!!

So his claws are of course his original spiderman bangles modified into the prowler claws But i based them on three weapons, each of which means something interesting for Pavitr

The first is bagh nakh. Literally translates to "tiger claws", famously used in a legend of Shivaji Maharaj They usually curl into the palm instead of going between the fingers like they do for Pav, but they're basically metal claws wound secretly around your hand for a sneak attack It's associated with bravery and righteous rage bc of Shivaji Maharaj but it's also really associated with stealth and an attack from unexpected quarters, being stabbed from a side no one saw coming. Which. Pavitr. The perfect hero, becoming the Prowler. Come on

Second is the trishul, aka trident That's the reason there are three prongs to his claw Trishul is the symbol of the god Shiva, and as i mentioned he's the god of destruction, as in he's part of the main triumvirate of gods who focus on creation preservation and destruction He also is really really associated with rage, especially destructive rage; he has a whole dance called the tandava for his rage which is a Huge Deal I can't stress this enough And because Prowler Pav is a being fuelled by rage against a system that has hurt so many including him that he wants to destroy and see burned, it is perfect for him The trishul is also seen as a symbol of goddess Kali, who's similar in the destruction goddess aspect and also is literally an embodiment of rage and violence that cannot be controlled which is more the theme I started out with, but whichever you notice first, it works either way. There's a whole myth in fact where Shiva had to lie beneath her feet to stop her destructive rampage before it ended the world.

And lastly, the urumi, aka the whip sword from Kerala Basically each of Prowler Pav's claws extend into whip swords when he does the swing/slash/whip motion This is really interesting at least to me, bc it means 2 things: 1) Pav still remembers and is actively using some of his skillset from swinging around as Spiderman. He does use the urumis to curl around distant objects and swing too, and they are very lethal weapons when used right, and that use requires a lot of skill, huge parts of which he built up by his experience 2) This is a weapon which requires an unimaginable amount of control, precision and strength And Pav is doing all that So all of his actions, every movement, is very deliberate and thought out. He's not doing any of this - turning away from heroism, becoming the Prowler, using these lethal weapons - on a whim. They are all very very deliberate.

Also one more thing - the blades of his claws are all retractable ofc But they are not protected or anything They slice up his palms and the in-betweens of his fingers whenever he uses them,, especially when he uses them as urumis And it would be so easy to fix the design or make gloves or smth so they don't do that But he doesn't ever do it He could make it so his hands don't bleed on using his claws But he doesn't want to

Mask -

The eyes are ofc like the prowler mask design except I made them more curved and curled at the end bc that's a kind of shape often seen in traditional art of the headdress of Kali, goddess of uncontrollable violence as I've said before Then the part between them is meant to be based off a third eye, which is something both Shiva and Kali have. It opens at the height of their rage, it's meant to symbolise destructive fury for them both Although it's also used in an all seeing context otherwise but a lot of whitewashed bullshit is also there that dilutes sources to find connotations His theyyam-based tusks from his Spider-Man mask, I wanted to keep

The shape below the eyes is based off the noses in masks in various regional Indian tribal and traditional masks,,, a lot of them tend to have a very distinctive curly nose shape that I wanted to keep, a lot of these masks also depict rage or are intimidating and are very emotive And then ofc you have the bottom of the mask, I made the curved-ish cut based on the peacock-feather-y shape i was using but it's also based on the general shape of Kali's lips in traditional art where she has her tongue out, it's a big symbol of her rage and rampage I tried to put the tongue too but it looked awkward and honestly i thought it would be cooler to jsut leave the bottom half of the mask open and you can see Pav's mouth and his expressions through it a bit instead, in the spirit of that And also it's based a little bit off Krrish's mask, you can never escape the Krrish design Also there's the lil teeth. Those are often used in art for demons and animals,, and Prowler Pav is very cat coded in his behaviour in general tbh. He's like if an orange cat's fur got burned to black.

Okay, see, I was so wrapped up in the Solomon debacle that I forgot about the whole Beel & Belphie thing.

I get that Belphie is being protective, but I also felt like he wasn't really taking Beel's feelings into consideration! I think there's a fine line between being protective and being controlling. And Belphie was right on the edge of that line, imo. When you're being protective to the point that you're ignoring the needs of the person you're supposedly protecting well... it kinda defeats the purpose there, buddy.

I wonder if they're going to kind of expand on that at some point. Have the twins hash it out with each other. Because I think Belphie isn't normally like this, but I think he's still wary of humans. And his concern is overriding his usual consideration of Beel's feelings.

Listen, I've had a little time to calm down, but I am still UPSET.

Now, of course, it's best to remember that this is fiction and nothing in fiction happens the way it would irl. BUT if I had a friend (or romantic interest/boyfriend/etc) who really enjoyed cooking, but for some reason always made gross food, I probably wouldn't lie to them directly. I would do exactly as you suggest, gently remind them of how to follow a recipe and so on. I can't imagine that Solomon has spent all his life trying to learn how to cook and somehow keeps screwing it up? Like considering how much he does it, he should be getting better at it?

And apparently someone told him his cooking tasted bad in season 3 of the OG, but I don't remember that lol. If it's in the hard lessons, that's why I don't remember... I haven't actually finished all the hard lessons of the OG... oops I keep forgetting they exist my bad.

Anyway, my point here is that it doesn't make sense that someone doing something they enjoy all the time wouldn't get better at what they're doing at some point. anthro au specific but since my Skid & Lila are both cats, some nights they'll just sit in total darkness (bc cats can see in the dark). it is great and enriching for both of them.

adding onto that, ever since Pump started coming over they added some glow in the dark star stickers along the walls to help him find his way around :)

Lila is transfem to me . I don't need proof or elaboration this is just something I know in my heart /lh

she probably started transitioning pretty young, which is something she feels lucky for. her parents were supportive ^_^ !!

every time someone talks about/links to fic (ANY fic, not just RPF!) in non-fandom spaces, I think about TardisIsTheOnlyWayToTravel, who deleted all 380 of their fics on AO3 because people won't stop linking to them from GoodReads. despite many entreaties over the years to not do so! but people still did it! and it makes me so mad because it's so easy to NOT post about fic and discuss fic on GoodReads, but NO, they HAD to use that platform and not, say, Tumblr or discord, or whatever. some people really don't know, or care to know, why it's a good idea to not discuss fic outside of fannish spaces actually 😤

eons ago I found some deleted pens fics recced on goodreads, with download links even though the author had clearly wanted to wipe their fics off the face of the earth. it's disheartening, and also ... strange ... to put fics on goodreads, of all places.

(I blame wattpad [I always blame wattpad] because it appears wattpad readers call fics "books," which is confusing to me! apparently some of the works on wattpad are original fiction, but nonetheless: a fic is not a book, and goodreads is for books, not fics)

my issue w/ the tiktoks abt HRPF is that it's exposing our #niche #fandom #interest to people outside of said niche fandom interest and blurs way too many lines.

they was leaning a bit into the "punk rock" typa vibe with them due to their designs and such, the music not so much but design wise they feel like they lean towards punk rock, and if thats the case we can assume that "rock" in the movie also encapsulates "punk"

so with that being said it bugs me just a tad bit, that rock of all of them was used to be the ones to be like "we want to make everyone like us! make everyone the same to unite us!" bc thats so far from what actual punk is, in fact the whole thing about punk is to go against authority and express ourselves (yk, our differences)

but w/e, punk has that "aesthetic" that makes it easy to be like "wow theyre intense" bc visually they can be intense LOL, they're also easy to paint as """the bad guys""" due to their aesthetic (big quotes around the bad guys as more near the end as we know barb wasnt really trying to be evil, nor in general are the rock trolls aggressive and/or evil inherently)

Just gonna throw out an issue I got with botw and totk, and maybe some else will recognize it too: All the more... love interest like female characters feel kinda simpery. Like if they're written to be romantic into Link or another male character, they'll be completely besotted by them in a very obvious way. Not saying they don't have any other personality besides that, but it's still a very big and noticeable part of them, all blushing and starry eyed. Example: Yona, Paya, Zelda, and kinda Sonia. Them being into a male character Sidon, LinkX2 and Rauru respectively feels like a really big part of how they're portrayed, it's like a personality cornerstone of them. Meanwhile the males, even if they are canon with the female character, Sidon and Rauru, just feel a lot more like their own personality and character still stands above their partner. (Though Sidon's writing is pretty weak in totk) But even other male characters with a slightly bigger role, eg Tauro or Kass, just don't get portrayed at all like they care abt romance, even if in Kass'es case he's married? It's only the named girls with a bigger role in the story, and who "fit" into the sweet cute girl trope. Kinda hard to explain, but it just feels like most of the girls are the exact same trope of "cute and small-femme" aka "easy waifu material".

I agree, and I'd extend your list to Mipha as well, which I kind of always felt very "??? okay" about (I think the fandom has done fun things with her and what's hinted of her relationship with Sidon is heartwarming, but her actual characterization is very very barebones).

But I also want to add that it's kiiind of a Zelda honored tradition --not a good one, but Ocarina of Time is straight up unbearable in that department imo: every cute girl that interacts with Link is so extraordinarily into him, and it's very effective in sending the message that the game is for a certain audience first and foremost (young boys). And even as far as BotW/TotK, characters like Paya and Mipha are written to be interacted with, not to be discovered; they're not written like characters you could project yourself onto but as receptacles to your own projection onto Link.

I agree that girls are defined by their romantic lives in pretty extreme ways (*banging my extremely bruised up gerudo pan once again*), and the rare "main" girls who do not behave like this (thinking of Purah, Impa, Riju, Buliara, Josha, Mineru, Cece) are all detached from romantic subplots --but it doesn't save a lot of them from the small-femme/easy waifu archetype.

(can I throw the Great Fairies into the pile of "female characters Zelda is weird about"? I don't know. I feel..... conflicted emotions about the Great Fairies, always have, always will. But. They exist.)

(I once pretended to be a Great Fairy to surprise a friend by wrapping myself in vines --I was clothed-- and then banged my knee against a tree stump when bursting out from behind it with the horrible laughter, it hurt really bad, anyway)

im back thinking again. regarding my last post with how i interpreted ibuki and fuyuhiko's friendship im heavily thinking abt him and hiyoko. hiyoko more specifically tbh. its hiyoko appreciation time. will contain spoilers

imo she should have lived. also tbh kazuichi shouldve died, not her. thats a whole other sauce tho (again) but like. i feel like hiyoko deserved to survive way more, in general. her potential was really there man

i used to hate hiyoko, i still kind of dislike her in a certain way but its because all of that points blame to the writers of sdr2, for the god awful pacing they thought was good, and how they just didn't really bother to show a lot of growth from her before her time was wrapped up? i enjoy how she was the mean character bc there's always gotta be That One Bitch, but i really would've loved for her to survive, for her to heal and live on for mahiru and even to grow close with fuyuhiko, ibuki, hajime and sonia, and she would perhaps even express sadness towards ibuki and mikan's deaths

its like everything that had happened in the game, and all the time they spent focused on hiyoko and what she was going through just went to waste, and they spent the rest on weaker material or scenes. hiyoko should have been given the same character arc fuyuhiko lived to see. and both of them have so much in common already, they'd make a pretty good duo. e.g., they both lost someone they loved (mahiru & peko), they're both mean, stubborn, and quippy but secretly soft around the right people, also hello they literally look related anyway ... the blonde hair and the rosy cheeks . come on. someone on spike chunsoft saw them. but it didnt work out. anyway i feel like they would bond amazingly, albeit very slowly, but they're definitely the duo to just gossip all the time about other people LOL, and fuyuhiko would try to comfort her as well, because he's lost two people

hiyoko wouldn't just easily forgive him of course, i dont think she ever could, hence why i emphasized they'd slowly bond because the tension would be agonizing. she was furious, and still mourning mahiru when she had just died, but she would at least understand him and grow to accept his company and genuine kindness overtime (and she had almost seemed to near the very end??). if she lived to see his genuine growth and saw that he actually cared and that he would do anything to make it up to her, she'd be way less cautious of him. and she'd realize that the fact that they're both stuck on an island in a killing game, and fuyuhiko genuinely seems to be the only one who seems to bother, and the only one who actually sees her. so if not him, who else does she really have, you know. at least, at that moment

afterwards, hiyoko would just calm down and be more cooperative and helpful overtime, she's not dumb at all and she knows what to say, though she might butt her head in at the worst times, she also doesn't put up with bullshit, the same way sonia doesn't, they both act thoroughly bc they're smart. she'd also be really helpful in the trials tbh, i think she'd be the kind to spot out little details

later on she'd have sonia and hajime to support her too! someone has to help her with her kimono.... fuck it they'd all collectively just tolerate her but also encourage her. compared to fuyuhiko she hadn't really done anything bad, she was just hurt. she just needs someone, now that her own someone was gone

of course id love if she stayed hotheaded but just not call everyone a skank or a pig every two seconds, keep her mean side i love a bad bitch, she just wouldn't have kept that mask up, and she'd learn like, "Oh Shit, these people are all i have, and i need them". if she stuck around, hiyoko wouldve been such a good help as a survivor. and just generally more interesting to see, she woulda stuck out to me more in general. wouldve LOVED to see her shine in chapter three, or the final two chapters

hiyoko fans please rise with me. i love her and her dumb pigtails. tldr im MAD she didn't get her redemption like she deserved she was so cool despite also being nasty but she had a CHANCE dude the potential was shining bright in front of our eyes

like at this point in the show we actually have no idea wether or not they're even still in a romantic relationship anymore. sure we didn't get a super clear breakup but we never really did with stancy either.

but el's last note to mike literally said "from", something the script even emphasizes with repetition and an underline.

then when they reunite they don't kiss, which isn't even that big of a deal but if the plan was to keep mileven together don't you think they would drive the point by making them do so? "it's the little things that count"

before mike's monologue, we get to see them interacting but nothing romantic, in fact the scene in the pizzeria is probably one of my favorite scenes between them because of it's lack of romantic undertones. it's actually adorable imo!

but during mike's monologue we don't actually see her happy that he's finally said ily, nor do we get any romantic scenes after this either.

you could say this shot where theyre standing together looking at max could be coupley, but it shouldn't have to be and i think it could also be to throw off the audience by making us assume so. in reality they are best friends and max is literally in a coma so they needed comfort in the moment. (that and my platonic!mileven (elmike?) obsessed ass thinks it's the best thing ever to see best friends be touchy like this :[) (n for u bylers out there, the way they made will stand so close to mike but lucas has so much space between him & el.. just a little detail i find interesting..)

and honestly, mileven doesn't seem to have either side of the party all in anyway. they're both not fully committed at this point in time, so it's completely possible a breakup could happen in season 5, depending on where the duffer brothers want to take it.

but the fact of the matter is, none of the big mileven scenes this season have come from eleven herself, because if they were to officially break up in s5, the duffers would probably rather it come from mike realizing el isn't in love with him, than el realizing mike isn't in love with her. (because i think she's already figured that out at this point)

(sorry if this ask is a little long, I'm having a total 'tism moment rn) Your issue with the all book tie-ins is fair, tbh. I only know about the Mimic via the wikipedia and word of mouth; due to the whole Scott Cawthon Donating Fiasco, I didn't feel comfortable directly accessing/purchasing FNaF stuff (if that makes sense), so as a result I resorted to watching playthroughs and reading up on on the wikipedia.

As a result, I can understand some people being confused about this stuff. Is the mimic a really cool idea? Sure, yeah, but everyone should be able to know about it.

I was thinking a little bit more about the Elevator Ending, and I think... if that is the actual canon ending, there's a very low chance Cassie died. It just doesn't make sense narrative wise- she's such a good character (seriously, I love her, her genuine concern (most of) the animatronics and Gregory, mixed with her funny quips and good VA, makes her a great sort of parallel to Gregory), to kill her off so quickly just feels... wrong.

I'm also... very intrigued about Gregory... And the fact he and, presumably Freddy and Vanessa, do not want to be found/are on the run. While at first, it was a little jarring for him to just. throw Cassie under the bus... I hate to say this, but imo, it feels... kinda in character. He wrecked the rest of the Glamrock Animatronics, and, iirc, in one ending of SB, he indirectly kills Vanny. So... was it a jerk move to do that to Cassie? Of course. Was it in-character?... Kind of? I guess? It can be debatable.

Anyways, I can't wait to see what else is dug up in the DLC. And I do hope we get more answers.

i do agree with the elevator ending and gregory points though! cassie is a brilliant character and i doubt she's dead, and the elevator ending was actually pretty damn cool! the visuals were great and gregory's sudden heel-turn betrayal was super interesting and shocking!

my only wish with RUIN from this point onwards is that it. explains everything in detail and that it utilizes eclipse because goddamnit they did not just introduce him only to never use him he's such a good character im still SO mad that he only got 5 minutes. again.

THIS IS A LONG ONE SORRY. I guess I had violence in my heart.

1. The character everyone gets wrong

Ok im aware this is like the most predictable answer for me but its true. CLARA!!! People don't get her at all and it absolutely infuriates me, because she's pretty much the only companion in nuwho who is hated to this extent (ie, people saying mean shit about her on my posts ABOUT HER) Oh does she annoy you by having the exact same traits as the doctor? Do you not like her egotistical and controlling behavior? I wonder why. Perhaps there is a point there.

Sidenote - it annoys me when people will call her a mary sue and simultaneously get mad at her being an asshole and yk, having character flaws, as if those terms aren't mutually exclusive & her hyper-competence that gets read as "mary sue" isn't an intentional choice by the narrative and a result of her being DEEPLY unwell in other aspects of her life.

I feel like a lot of people judge her based on the second half of s7 which, to be fair, is awful and I don't think they knew what they were doing with her yet. But in the context of her whole run she is genuinely one of the most evocative characters to come out of doctor who for me, especially in the way she serves as a kind of commentary and subversion of companions as a whole. I genuinely could talk about clara forever but yeah I do feel like a lot of the hate comes from the fact that people Don't Get Her.

And then among fans who do there's always a risk that they see her as this blank slate twee girl to self-project onto which again, to be fair, is how she was written in season 7. But so many things from supposed fans of her as well that I'll read and be like she would not fucking say that. she does not have the emotional awareness to say that. and/or she is not like a uwu quirky shy girl she would fucking speak her mind about that. She is deranged and I love her. I have to shut up abt clara or this will be the whole post.

10. Worst part of fanon

I honestly cant get TOO annoyed with doctor who fanon because i am a comics fan AND a danny phantom fan and its surprisingly common practice for people in both those fandoms to be a "fan" of something they have not consumed the media for in any form, resulting in this horrible mess of fanon with no connection to what makes the original compelling. + doctor who is such a mess of canon anyway basically everything has been canon at some point even if its shit.

But I think in the end the worst part of DW fanon is, like all fanon, the flattening of really compelling characters to fit trope archetypes. I see this especially with tenrose, where they're just turned into this kind of generic ship that you can plug n play into any situation with little connection to the interesting ways they actually behave in canon.

As a kind of interesting reversal, though, fanon will often expand out dw's most generic characters (ie most chibnal companions. sorry), but only for the purposes of shipping and not in ways I myself find particularly interesting. Like imo Yaz is probably the least developed chibnal companion but pretty much the only one I see expanded on in this way because of the shipping potential.

el and mike are soo 😭 there is something so lovely about love that blossoms from childhood whether or not it lasts (whatever that means) because mike and el’s foundations (imo) are built on kindness and just the earnest desire to make and keep a friend (!!!!) and thinking abt the fact that the duffers said s5 will involve a time jump, if I were to imagine what mike and el would look like as adults together like if their dynamic will hold up without the warm film of childhood … I honestly think it does/will. there’s something so wonderful about love that has settled or has been allowed to by time — and when a partnership begins from being children together? tbh it rarely works out but when it does it DOES.. idk how the season is gonna end, where everyone will end up.. but I hope sincerely that it does so so that the next one can begin with el and mike, slightly older and more settled and together underlined in bold. I think that dynamic will be so interesting to see actually play out! we got to see what a more adult conversation with them kind of looks like this season but and I loved it bc it felt authentic but that happened on shaky ground, and at 14 with their relationship a little wobbly. on a normal wednesday afternoon what do 17-18 year old mike and el talk about? what does that look like? I legit just can’t wait to see them talking lol anyways! I hope they aren’t kept apart at the end of the season again! the novelty is wearing off

Anon, it's like you reached into my head and pulled out all my words and thoughts. I love that we get to see Mike and El's relationship progress and develop over time, love that we get to grow with them. Their conversation/argument this season was so good because it was so real and so authentic, just a sign of them learning how to grow together and give each other what they need. They're not there yet - especially because they got interrupted by the police - but they'll get there. Their story arc isn't finished and we'll just have to wait until vol 2 to see it resolve.

But your point about what they'll look like in s5 (especially if there's a time jump) really made me step back and look at the overall progression we've gotten from them since the beginning.

S1: realizing they like each other/have feelings for each other

S2: deciding to stay dedicated to each other despite being separated, reuniting and then deciding to be together in a relationship

S3: figuring out what it means to be in a relationship and how to balance that with other aspects of their lives

S4: figuring out how to grow and communicate in a relationship given realistic challenges (long distance, growing up, etc).

So I feel like, by S5, their main "challenge" will be maintaining their growth, not backsliding, continuing to remember to communicate and balance their lives with each other and with their friends/family (pretty much literally what almost every couple wrestles with in real life).

So I don't see them being separated again (and not just because I hope they don't do this because it is getting very very tiresome). I can also see the Duffers wanting to have S5, dynamics wise, feel the most like S1, give the audience that nostalgic feeling as part of its swan song. So keeping Mike and El in the same storyline, have them share the majority of their scenes together, etc etc etc.

I also just want to see them be a mature couple, by which I mean they're sure of what they feel for each other, the "honeymoon" phase has worn off, and they're able to balance being together with other aspects of their lives even if they prefer at times to be alone with each other. I want to see them having soft conversations and just getting to enjoy being together given everything they've learned and experienced to get to this point.

So, to sum up: JUST GIVE ME SETTLED AND SECURE MILEVEN PLS. I don't even need it to be a main focus of the story! I just want it to be a real thing while the plot is reeling chaotically around them.

anyway the problem with being into as many old-timey slow hobbies as i am is you gotta be super careful trying to find content abt them. because there are a lot of people who like these things because they also have old-timey slow values.

idk why exactly im interested in the victorian era: i think the fashion is fun (and a lot of the silhouettes look good on me imo), i think it's an interesting period historically and socially (society changed SO MUCH with the advent of mass production, and it's interesting to learn abt how people dealt with and reacted to that, there were so many huge scientific advances and so many weird social rules and everyone thought cigarettes were medicine). it's been an interest of mine since i was a kid!!

some people seem really into it because they want to return to the prelapsarian ideal they imagine that time to be, where they didnt have to hear about minorities and everyone loved eugenics and nobody would get mad at you if you said you didnt trust jews.

and it SUCKS because i LOVE history, i love old literature, i love fountain pens and calligraphy and carefully maintaining my leather shoes. and i hate that all if these benign interests are shared by some of the worst people you can imagine. and i dont even think a lot of them actually LIKE this stuff, so much as they want to signal that theyre a classy historical revisionist. why do the racists get to keep all the fun old timey things!!! why do i have to change!!! they're the ones who suck!!!!
