Do you mind to write a dark!five who is in love with reader? But reader does not feel the same cuz he look like a young boy so u didnt take him seriously. Big mistake.
So I just want to clarify that the reader does not love Five. She only views him like a little brother.

“So you’re back then.”
Five didn’t turn around at the sound of your voice but you did notice that he stiffened slightly at it. You had known the Hargreeves from when you were young and the disappearance of Five had always been one of the great mysteries of your childhood. You took a sip of your coffee as Five turned around.
“Clearly,” he said, “What are you doing here?”
“Invited to the funeral,” you said, “Klaus said something about moral support. I wasn’t expecting it to be this eventful.”
“You should be used to our family by now,” said Five, “This is what we’d call a quiet gathering.”
You couldn’t help but chuckle and nod saying,
“It’s good to see you again, kid. Next time try not to disappear for so long.”
As you left the kitchen to try and mediate whatever argument had occurred in your absence, you missed Five say quietly,
“I’m not a kid.”
*
“Is it me or it Five acting strange around you?”
You glanced at Diego as he leaned against your kitchen counter. Your flat had become almost like a safe haven for the Hargreeves. Whenever they were younger and wanted to escape the madness that was their family they usually went to your family. This just continued into adulthood.
“He’s just come back from a traumatic experience,” you said, “And has gone back to being a teenager. I’d be surprised if he wasn’t a bit strange.”
“No,” Diego shook his head, “There’s something fucking wrong with him.”
“He’s your brother,” you said as you continued chopping carrots, “Talk to him.”
“You’ve met him,” said Diego, “He’s not the type of person you just talk to.”
“He’s a child.” you said
“He’s not,” Diego gave you a sharp look, “He’s a fucking psycho.”
“Charming as ever.”
You and Diego both jumped as the sound of Five’s voice. Diego glared at his brother while you just gave him a disapproving look. Five ignored the two of you and made his way over to the coffee machine.
“I thought I told you to use the door.” You said
“Why the fuck are you here?” snapped Diego
“Diego, don’t swear at Five.”
“Thank you, y/n.” said Five
“He’s still a child after all.”
*
It was strange, coming home from work and seeing Five curled up on your sofa. You sighed as you saw him take a sip of coffee and you said,
“Isn’t it a bit late to be drinking coffee? It’ll mess up your sleep schedule.”
You took the coffee cup from him and gently stroked the top of his head. Five glared up at you and you couldn’t help but smile at it. He just looked so young, you couldn’t take him seriously. It wasn’t the first time you had come home to see Five and you doubt it would be the last.
You turned on the TV and put something mindless on. You didn’t notice the way Five closed his eyes and rested against you. You really didn’t know how much you meant to him.
*
“I love you.”
“Huh?”
You were in the Hargreeves’s library when Five spoke. He stood tall, well, as tall as he could. You looked at him in amusement and said,
“Yeah, right back at you.”
“I mean it,” he slowly walked towards you, “I love you.”
You paused and closed your book.
“Like in a sister-brother way?”
“What do you think?”
“Five,” you stood up, “Look, I’m flattered but you’re like a brother to me. Besides, you’re so young. I don’t think you really understand about lo-“
“Don’t finish that fucking sentence.”
“And don’t swear.”
“I’m not a child! You have no idea what I’ve been through, what I’ve done and what I am capable of.”
“I know what happened to you,” you said gently, “And I know that I can never understand what you went through. But Five, you are a child. You look like a child. I can’t-“ you scrunched your nose in disgust and shook your head, “No. No. No. I think I should leave.”
You took a step towards the door but Five was quicker. In a flash he was right in front of you. You looked down at him and had to force yourself not to break his stare.
“I am not a child. I am fifty eight years old. I’ll prove to you that I love you,” he said, “Don’t you worry.”
You blinked and he was gone, leaving you alone in the library that now felt far too creepy. You swallowed thickly and quickly marched out determined to find the other Hargreeves. Five had lost it and you were going to need all the help you could get.

“If you refuse to hold still Rae we will be here all day. So please hold still.” Klaus chuckled in my direction moving his paintbrush across the board since he was insisting on painting me before we bothered waking my mother and linking my life to his forever.
He had me sitting on one of the large coaches that was near the fireplace that had a burning fire in it even though this house full of vampires didn’t get cold. My hair was slightly waving, falling down my shoulders with me wearing one of his shirts since I didn’t have to hide the black darkness veins from him anymore, which was paired with some ripped jeans and some black combat boots. “I can’t help it. In case you have forgotten I am used to having to live everyday on the run. So forgive me if I can’t remain still for a portrait.”
He shook his head, returning to focus on the painting smirking at me. “After today we will have all the time in the world. So where would you like to go first, love?”
“You’re the one who has been alive for a thousand years. What was your favorite place in the universe?” I asked him to intertwine my hands together in my lap.
The hybrid paused his actions coming to stand in front of me tapping the paintbrush in the air like he really needed to think about it but he already knew. “New Orleans.”
“Then that’s where we shall go, together forever.” I held up my pinky to him with a smirk on my face.
“Together forever.” He declares looping his pinky around mine turning back to the painting grinning ear to ear hearing someone coming into the room. “What took you so long?”
Rebekah revealed a white oak stake from behind her back. “Alaric didn't want to hand over the stake. Luckily I'm quite the charmer.”
Klaus asked her, sitting the brush down facing her. “That's it?”
Rebekah said back. “Last of the white oak stakes that can kill us. Do you want to do the honors, or shall I?” He takes it and throws it in the fireplace where I watched the stake burn in the heat of the flames knowing that he wouldn’t have to worry about someone with the ability to kill him anymore.
“Pack your bags. We're leaving.” He clasped his hands together walking over to me wrapping his arms around me from behind resting his chin on my shoulder. “Raelyn has picked our new home. New Orleans.”
Rebekah knits her brows together at him.“Today?”
Klaus lifted his head up slightly. “Why not? There's nothing keeping us here. We'll grab the doppelganger and be off by sunset. The only thing we must do is get Rae’s mother to perform a little linking spell so that she can spend an eternity by my side.”
“And goodbye to my psycho Coven trying to make me their leader. I say we deserve a beer after the spell.” I raised my hands in the air, hearing Nik chuckle in my ear kissing the crown of my head.
Rebekah slumped her shoulders in frustration not wanting to leave yet. “But tonight's the decade dance.”
Klaus sent her a look. “So?”
Rebekah dropped her hands at her sides. “So I'm head of the committee. We have to go.”
Klaus grumbled nuzzling his head into my neck until I lightly pushed him so he would give his attention to his sister.” I'm not going to any dance.”
Rebekah fought him. “Caroline will be there and Rae deserves to say goodbye to her. She also deserves to spend one night at a school dance too.“
Klaus grumbled not fazed. “That means nothing to me.”
“Rae, will you help me out here. Work your magic on him please.” Rebekah begged me knowing that I was her only hope of convincing him. “I have big plans for tonight. Just go for me.”
Shifting around on the couch I drape my arms over his shoulder since he was now sitting behind me on the couch. “Nik, if you let us stay for the dance then she will be happy and leave us alone where we could…you know maybe get to the last base.”
“Rae, we haven’t talked about if you’re even comfortable with that.” He started to try and talk me out of it thinking that I wouldn’t be ready to sleep with him. Since a few months ago I had very different feelings.
Playing with the dog tag necklace he wore, our gazes met where I saw his shoulders sigh in relief at my words. “Yes but that was before I knew I really got a chance to live. Now I am not afraid of anything that comes for us. So what do you say?”
Klaus shifted his gaze back to his sister, sending her a smile. “Ok, fine. One last hurrah.”
“One last hurrah, Nik.” Rebekah smiled leaving the room seconds after that.
Crawling off the couch I tugged him up to his feet by his arm where he joked through a smirk with me dragging him downstairs to the cellar. “So you’re that eager are you, little siphon queen?”
“Not right now, crazy hybrid. We have to make sure I do not die from using my own magic. Did you find me a ring that would work?” I sent him a glare opening the door seeing that mother was still asleep from the spell I used on her.
Klaus reached into his back pocket dropping on a knee before me with a playful smile. “Will you link your life to mine, Raelyn Lane?”
“Yes I will.” I smiled, letting him slide the ring on my left right finger holding it up where I could look at it. The ring was gold and had a small silver jewel in the center since I told him he didn’t have to give me anything that was filled with tons of diamonds or anything. “Surgere.”
My mother Eliza gasped sitting upright looking around the room in a panic just like last time seeing that I was there but she made a face at Klaus. “Rae….who the hell is he?”
“Mrs. Lane, May I introduce myself. I am Klaus Mikaelson. The original hybrid, half vampire and werewolf. I am also your daughter’s boyfriend. Now we have a favor to ask of you. Can you do a spell that links her life force to mine forever?” He extended a hand down to her, helping her stand on her own in front of us.
She made a face focusing her attention on me rather than on him. “Look at your arms. The magic has gotten worse. Why didn’t you wake me sooner?”
“Because she still doesn’t trust you.” Klaus told her, crossing his arms over his chest.
She rolled her eyes begging me while she tried to tug me towards the door by my forearm but I didn’t budge. “We have to go sweetheart. I will find a witch who can reverse this.”
“That's not what I want, mother. I will find a way to remove the dark magic from my body myself. But I can’t do that until I am linked to an immortal life. And I chose my boyfriend Klaus. Now you can either help us or I can knock your ass out again!” I threatened her by getting up in her face.
Klaus smirked leaning against the doorway so proud and turned on at the same time. “There’s my queen.”
“Rae Rae, what happened to you. You weren’t like this growing up. I mean you had a fighting spirit but not…this.” My mother asked reaching up but I snagged her wrist.
“I was born with a fiery spirit, yes. But you dare have to ask what happened to me. You caused this. The paranoid mind and everything else. I never realized it until recently but all the true stubbornness came from Jaocb and me. We were both equally stupid children and now that combined into one person is more than anyone can handle. Now can we please get on with this spell so you can run off while I still care.” I growled at her clutching my hands into fists at my side just wanting to be away from her now.
She dropped her gaze to the floor sitting back down and I followed her actions. “I’ll need a knife, a cup and some candles please Mr. Mikaelson. This spell will require both your blood and my daughters.” He vamped up the stairs and back down with what was she needed handing them to her.
“So what do I - uh we have to do here?” I questioned her twirling the ring on my finger where she noticed it.
“Is that the ring you want to use. Place it on the ground then cut your palm and drop some blood on it.” Nodding, I followed her instructions sitting the jewelry in the middle of our circle, grabbing the blade and drawing some blood. The red liquid dripping began staining the ring. “Now Klaus you do the same with your blood and then you each take my hand holding hands with one another.”
Klaus raised his wrist up to his mouth opening a wound on it letting his blood drip onto mine and the ring he got me. “If you hurt her or betray us I will hunt down everyone that you love besides her.”
“Nik, I think we’ve made our threats clear enough.” I warned him, placing one hand in his and my other in my mothers.
As soon as she began chanting the spell that was in one of Esther’s grimoire that was labeled as the original linking spell used on her children we watched the pill of blood become as one and then transform into a circle around the ring itself. “Phasmatos ex loser exis pa unas animotos. Phasmatos di conjunctions, sol facto dos mand. Phasmatos ex loser exis pa unas animotos. Di conjuncto sol facto. Phasmatos de vos mand.” The candles burst up in flames with her finishing the chant causing the ring to grow brighter and then have the light fade from it. “Phasmatos tribum, melan veras raddiam, onu pavadus ponemus….there that should do it. You two are now linked together.”
Klaus picked up the ring sliding it back on my finger softly saying. “Do a spell, Rae and see if it works.”
“Okay um…inviseque.” I shut my eyes seeing that Klaus and my mother both shared the same confused look until I returned meaning that I had turned invisible. Looking at my arm the vein was still there but it was very faint and I didn’t feel as much pain as before. “It works. Thank you, mother.” Wrapping my arms around her in a hug we head for the door.
Klaus paused in the doorway nodding to her. “Thank you, Mrs. Lane. I won’t forget you for your help.” He vamped away following me off so we could get ready for the dance tonight.
He had put on an all white suit and tie. He had given me a red dress with my hair thrown up in a bun. I had paired it with some white flats wearing the blue jewelry necklace and the new linking ring. We walked into the dance hand and hand until Caroline noticed us separating herself from Tyler embracing me in a hug. "Oh my gosh Rae. Thank gosh you're okay. I have missed you."
"I've missed you too, Care." I hugged her back knowing that I have been busy with Jo and not spending time with her or Rebekah as much as I wished.
She broke the hug holding my hands in hers noticing the ring on my left one. "Wait a second. Are you two engaged already?"
"We could be in the very near future." Klaus smirked beside me.
Squeezing her hands I corrected him before he mace the blonde before me completely flip out. "No we're not. It's a ring that connects me to his immortal life force. So that when I use my magic I shouldn’t die since I still have Esther's consumed magic inside me."
"Well that's a good idea. I don't want to lose one of my friends. I really like you, Raelyn." She smiled.
I grinned back. "I do the same about you, Caroline."
Klaus tapped my shoulders offering me his hand tugging me away from the blonde vampire girl. "Care to dance, siphon queen." Putting our hands together when got on the dance floor where he twirled me underneath his arm.
"What's that smirk for?" I asked spinning back into his arms seeing that he was smirking at me.
"You would have loved the 1920s, Raelyn. Girls were reckless, sexy, fun. They literally used to dance until they dropped." He chuckled when we spun around in his a few circles, smiling.
I raised our hands into the air finally being able twirl him out and back into my chest with him brushing our noses up against each other. "You must show me all the eras you enjoyed the most."
"And I will gladly do so." He lifted his gaze up scanning the crowd. "It's odd that I haven't seen Rebekah yet."
Glancing over my shoulder I agreed with him. "Yeah it is. Maybe she is trying to be fashionably late."
A Few hours that wasn't the case when we still hadn't seen her. "Rebekah, call me back immediately. I only came to this ridiculous dance because you begged me to, and now you're nowhere to be found,” Klaus grumbled into the phone until we stop in front of a barrier of salt that surrounded the school trapping us all inside. “What is this?”
Stefan came up behind us. "Your mother's back."
A boy named Jamie that was Bonnie's date. "She does this all the time, right?"
Klaus grumbled standing beside me. "What's taking so long? All boundary spells have a loophole."
Matt enters the room. “People are walking right out of the dance, past the barrier.”
Jeremy pointed out. "Well, if Matt and I can leave, we could stop Esther ourselves. We just gotta find out where she is."
Stefan said back. "su1c1de, Jeremy."
Klaus rushes toward Jamie and strangles him by his throat. "Su1c1de would be disappointing me. Now work your magic, witch, or I'll start killing people you fancy."
Bonnie begged him standing in front of a table of candles. "Let him go."
Klaus snarled in his throat. "Not until you get us out of here."
Snapping my fingers I finally got sn idea placing my hand on his shoulder. "Hang on. I think I can siphon it away. If I was able to take away your mother's power then the same should apply here."
"Fine. We'll try that." He released the boy from his grip where he gasped for breath.
Klaus and I walked back outside where we stopped at the edge of the salt. He intertwined his hand with mine where I began siphon him. Lowering myself down onto placing my freehand on the salt sucking in a breath seeing my other hand turning red. The veins on my arms began to turn darker but Klaus took a breath seeing that they disappeared as quickly as they came seconds before the barrier spell completely broke. "Try it now, Nik." He moved one foot forward being able to step over.
"Now we find my mother, Raelyn." He declares vamling us off in her direction. Looking around it was completely dark and he walked forward smacking into another wall but I was able to walk forward. "Go on Rae. I'll be here."
Sneaking around the corners I could hear Esther talking to Elena. "He'll wake soon. When he does, he may for a time be his old self. If so, you can say your good-byes before his transition is complete."
Elena told the witch. "You said you wanted to undo the evil that you created, but this this is just as evil."
"Alaric will never be what my children became. I have granted him enough power to complete his task. Then when the time is right, he will die." Esther explained.
Elena raised a brow. "How, if he's immortal?"
Esther reassured her. "All you need to know is that when this is over, we will have rid the earth of vampires once and for all."
Elena points out. "Yeah, but you'll be killing the good along with the bad. You're no better than Klaus."
Esther raised a brow at her making a good point. "Am I not? I desire a world where you and your loved ones will not suffer at the hands of vampires, like your aunt Jenna did."
I heard someone walking my direction where I spun around getting into a fighting stance seeing Matt and Jeremy coming towards me with weapons. "Raelyn, what are you doing here?"
"Coming to take down Esther. You guys shouldn't be here." I warned them by grabbing my necklace, feeling that I was able to draw magic from my new ring.
"We're here to help." Matt said drawing a gun. He moved forward and I closed my eyes doing the disappearing spell so she wouldn't expect me and only see them.
Matt warned her holding up a gun breaking through the tree line. “Don't move.”
Jeremy is there too with a crossbow. “Where is Elena?”
Elena gasped. “Jeremy?!”
Jeremy told the witch. “Let her go.”
Esther noticed them glaring at the boys. "How foolish of you to risk your lives in defense of those who will kill you. But if that is your choice…" She raises her hands. Their weapons turn against each other.
Jeremy panicked watching his crossbow move. "Matt. Matt, drop your gun!"
Matt shouted back. "I can't. I'm not controlling it."
Elena begged her. "Esther, stop it!"
"You all aren't strong enough to stop me - urgh!" The original witch groaned when I appeared behind her placing my hands on the sides of her head siphoning her. She spun around where I dropped my hands stepping away from her. "So the abomination witch is still alive. I must say I am impressed. But you won't make it out of this now that I have turned the history teacher into a much stronger hunter."
Raising both my hands directly at her I began chanting feeling the wind blowing my hair in front of my eyes. "“Magia tollux de terras……Magia tollux de terras.”
"Urgh ... .you monsterious…siphon!" Esther grunted, grabbing her head almost dropping on her knees in agony.
I bared my teeth together feeling some blood falling from my nose but I wasn’t on the verge of passing out like before. Clutching my hands closer to closing into a fist I kept chanting adding a new addition to the spell. "Magia tollux de terras……Magia tollux de terras. Orbios rutai filio. Orbios rutai filio…. Magia tollux de terras……Magia tollux de terras. Orbios rutai filio!"
"No! That is impossible. You can't take my magic girl….someday there will be someone stronger than you!" She collapsed onto the ground with me gasping harshly feeling her power get launched into my body.
I went down on my hands and knees throwing my hair in front of my eyes struggling for breath. "Next time you make a new vampire hunter. Don't immediately give him a weapon." Alaric arrives behind her and kills her.
He frantically looked around seeing everything before him then focused on Elena who was bleeding from her wrist. "Oh god. Where's my ring? Tell me what happened." After that point Alaric Saltzman would shortly die.

Chapter 5: Life & Death - The Day That Wasn’t
Tumblr media
Summary
A day happens and you’re lead to a revelation about your powers. And then that day is undone.
Warnings? Click Here!
Wednesday. 8:15 A.M
Luther had called for a family meeting the next morning. You and Allison sat there in confusion at the current state of Diego whose arm currently sat in a sling. There was so much the both of you were informed of. You didn’t even get to ask what happened before Luther started stalking about the upcoming apocalypse that Five was talking about.
“Three days?” Allison was in disbelief as she handed Luther his cup. She had gotten coffee for everyone to get everyone up except for Vanya, who wasn’t here.
“That’s what Five said.”
Klaus sat up on the couch. “The old bastard did mention the apocalypse, come to think of it.”
“I guess it was why he was so concerned about the date when he came back.” You figured. “He just left out the part about soon.”
“But can we trust him?” Allison questioned. “I don’t know if you’ve noticed but Five’s a little…” She whistled, signifying his looniness.
Klaus chuckled. “Our little psycho.”
“Well…I mean with those assholes who came shooting up the place in those creepy masks and him coming back after….years, maybe he’s onto something.”
“He told me he was working for some…” Luther looked like he was trying to find the softest words. “Some pretty bad people. That’s why they were looking for him before. It pretty much proves that he’s trying to stop an apocalypse. If he wasn’t, those lunatics wouldn’t be after him.”
Diego looked serious. “That’s why they were after him?”
“Yeah.”
Allison chimed in. “What did Five even see?”
Luther looked nervous. “Uh…apparently, we all fought together against whoever was responsible.” …That was all he said.
You had a soft smile. “Aw, cute.”
There was a brief silence as you all waited for Luther to finish talking…but he didn’t add anything. Luther glanced at all of you, his normal goofy little expression when he was clearly hiding something.
Rather than giving in, he simply clicked his tongue, standing up and kept going. “Okay. So, here’s the plan. We go through Dad’s research--”
Prompting everyone to speak.
“Wait, what?”
“Aye yo.”
“Hold on, hold on.”
“Wait a tick, wait a tick, wait a tick.”
Luther turned around to Klaus.
“What actually happened the first time around?”
Diego cosigned. “Yeah. What are you not tellin’ us?” Luther had a scared look on his face as Diego tried to coax the answer. “Come on, big boy, spit it out.”
Luther looked at all of you before looking down at his cup, raising it slightly…. “We died.” Immediately going to take a sip.
Your eyes went wide as did everyone else’s. “Repeat that!!” You exclaimed.
He coughed. “I said uh…we died.”
….
“YOU CAN’T JUST NOT LEAD WITH THAT!” You yelled.
——✨——
“We need to figure this out.” Diego stated.
“Is it just us?”
“It’s everybody.”
All of you had huddled together at the table as you all tried getting all of the information Luther knew.
“In the house?”
“The whole planet?”
“No, outside the house. Everyone died.”
“Jesus…” you sighed.
“Hey.” Vanya’s calm voice hushed everyone as you all turned to see her, with Leonard in tow.
You shot Leonard a glare before looking at Vanya.
“Hey Vanya.”
She looked at the circle you all had going. “What’s going on?”
No one replied. Allison shuffled before she answered. “It’s a family matter.”
“A family matter.” Vanya scoffed. “So you couldn’t bother to include me.”
“Vanya, it’s not like that. It’s--” You tried to explain but she cut you off.
“Don’t let me interrupt.” She tried walking off but Allison stopped her.
“Wait! I’ll fill you in later when we’re alone.”
“Please, please, don’t bother. And I won’t either.”
You attempted to get to go and comfort Vanya only to be stopped by Diego’s hand reaching over the bar counter who silently shook his head and didn’t even attempt to let you go.
“Vanya, that’s not fair.”
Vanya was caught off guard. “Fair? There’s nothing fair about being your sister.”
Ouch.
“I have been left out of everything for as long as I can remember.”
There was a brief silence as the guilt slowly washed over all of you.
“And I used to think it was Dad’s fault, but he’s dead. So it turns out you’re the assholes.”
Vanya left the room with Leonard trailing behind her.
“Ouch.” Klaus muttered.
Allison came back over to all of you but before the discussion on saving the world could continue, she spoke up again.
“I’m gonna go find Vanya and explain.” She tried to walk off but Luther’s voice stopped her.
“No, wait, there isn’t time. We need to figure out what causes the apocalypse.”
“Don’t you think Vanya should know that the world is ending?” You suggested.
“And what exactly would that accomplish?” Diego mumbled.
You rolled your eyes. Of course, you’re not going to verbally admit that he’s right. The only thing telling Vanya would do is make her worry. It would only make her insecurities worse.
Luther continued. “Now, there are loads of possibilities. Nuclear war, asteroids. But I’m thinking this is about the Moon. Right? Dad must have sent me up there for a reason.”
Everyone seemed to mentally groan at Luther’s mention of the moon once again.
“And I was giving him daily updates on the conditions, I sent field samples. So the first thing we need to do is find his research.”
Klaus finally chimed in. “Hold on. Hold the phone. We all died fighting this thing the first time around. Remember?”
You nodded as Diego added on. “Klaus, shockingly, has a point. What gives us a win this time?”
“Five. Last time we didn’t have him.”
Your attention focused on Klaus, who appeared like he was gonna throw up.
“We weren’t all together.”
“Klaus, you alright?” You whispered to him, rubbing his back. He nodded, clearly lying.
“This time, we’ll have the full force of the Umbrella Academy, that’s what we need.”
“So, where’s Five now?” Allison asked.
“Well, he had a plan to change the timeline. He’ll be back soon.”
Diego came from behind the bar and started heading towards the door. “I’m going after Hazel and Cha-Cha.”
“What, right now?”
“Hell yeah. Three days. I’m losing light by the minute.”
“Wait, Diego. Look, I know you wanna avenge your friend, but we got a bigger problem here.”
“She wasn’t just some friend!” Diego shouted, silencing Luther. “If I’m gonna die, I need to know I killed those bastards first.”
You aided Klaus into the chair. “Hang on, I’ll get you the trash can.”
With it by the coffee table, you walked over to pick up but a figure moving in the corner of your eye on the second floor didn’t escape your grasp; however when you looked up, there was no one there. Maybe it was random shadows in the corner of your eye but you felt uneasy about it.
Diego and Luther kept on arguing as you came back over to Klaus and placed the bin in front of him. He nodded a ‘thank you’ as he was hunched over. He looked like he was struggling to keep himself together amidst all of the back and forth.
You made your way towards the arches, catching Luther’s attention. “Hey, Y/N! Where you going?”
Looking back at him. “I’m…” You started waving your hand around, thinking of a response that wouldn’t be scrutinized further. “Umm….stuff…y’know.”
And you walked off. Luther huffed. This is not how he wanted this meeting to go down.
With the echoed talking between your siblings, you went upstairs towards where your father kept most of the trophies of the academy. Younger, all of you thought it was really cool how much people seemed to appreciate the hard work you put into saving the world and you all thought that maybe your dad’s collection of this stuff was his own way of saying he was proud.
But after years of the distancing, the abuse, and the neglect it became clear that it wasn’t you all that he was proud of, it was himself…for making you all the way that you were. All of these momentos were there to remind him that how he was treating you all was just right.
“Hey.” Klaus’ voice called out to you.
He still looked like shit.
“Hey,” you responded softly. “How you feeling?”
It seemed like Klaus as an .exe froze for a moment before he registered what you said. “Yeah, I’m fine. I’m good. I just…need your help with something.”
You sighed. “Klaus, you told me the last time I checked you in that I wouldn’t have to--”
“No, no, no, no, no. I don’t need money.” It was only then you noticed the bold blue rope sat over his shoulder. He slid it off of him and handed it to you. “I need you to tie me up.”
You looked at the rope he held out to you then back up at him. “Umm…..what is this?”
“Listen, the last time I was sober it was a roaring good time when those freaks had me tied up in the motel room.”
You slowly nodded, only really…half understanding what was happening right now. “Is this a…kink thing or is this--”
He quickly shook his head. “Nonononono, nothing like that. It’s a part of my journey to sobriety.”
“Tying you up is a part of that?” You shook your head. “Klaus, I don’t know about that I mean--”
“Y/N, these past few days, I’ve had a revelation.”
“Look, I’m not tryna say anything negative. I’m just saying…is this the safest idea.”
“Come on, Glowbug…you and I both know that this is my best option. I am hurting right now. I’m in pain and…if this works…there’s a chance I can be put on the right track.”
You gave a sympathetic sigh before gently rubbing his arm, sweat be damned. “Klaus, you’re not on the wrong track, you just need help.”
Whether you wanted to admit it or not, this was a part of your enabling of Klaus’ behavior. But it always came from a good place. In his inebriated states, there was a shit ton of negative self-talk that came from him and your only thoughts in those moments were to uplift him. Some friends tell you that Klaus needed tough love from you but you didn’t believe in that…because your dad did.
“This is going to help me, Glowbug. I promise! Come on…unconventional is our thing…remember?”
You thought on it for a moment before reluctantly nodding. “Fine.”
——✨——
Then
The first few months after you left the manor was rough to say the least. You slept with some others in homeless camps. By luck, you had managed to come across a shelter that would have some space opened up recently. They welcomed you in but there were a shit ton of rules. You couldn’t help but laugh at how it felt like being home but…less lavish.
Still…it was better than nothing. At the very least, the only thing they expected from you as a minor was that you kept up some type of education or found a job. You settled on getting some work, despite being sheltered, you always knew that the education your dad gave you was still better than what most folks could afford, why not put it to good use, right?
But if by ‘good use’ you meant cleaning up then yeah. You surely thought there was some clinic or hospital that would LOVE to have someone like you but you were simply too young. Superhero or not, you were still a minor and none of them wanted to risk the legal troubles. Even the clinics that catered to a more under the table crowd. Plus, they were worried about Reginald Hargreeves giving them grief. Not that they knew much about him but they knew about his little mission and something just didn’t seem all that right with him. Best not to get involved, y’know?
You understood, even if it hurt. Not that medicine is what you wanted to do but you figure it’d be the easiest thing to try…but nope.
That’s when Hera found you. She remembered you. Wondered where your brother was. Wondered what you were doing out here by yourself. It didn’t take too long to realize why though. You were homeless. In that span from when she first saw you and now, you had either ran away from home or had gotten kicked out. Either way, it hurt her to see.
The first time, she gave you money.
“Get yourself something warm.” She told you.
The second time, you had gotten locked out from the shelter because you came back late. They made no exception. She let you sleep on her couch. Somewhere warm to sleep and an actual meal. But also, this allowed you to look at her accolades that were plastered all over the room.
She appeared in an article. Pictures of her in different glamorous outfits. There were little trophies from ballroom competitions and people even made paintings and little sculptures of her.
She was a star.
Not like Marilyn Monroe or Eartha Kitt but a star that’s close to home and among others. One who wasn’t too isolated. That’s when it hit you. It was almost like that same feeling from before. You wanted to be like her. To shine like she did. To light up the worlds of others like she did. But there was no way you were gonna do it begging for scraps. You had to take action.
In hindsight, it wasn’t the most stablest plan but you wanted to go in head first. Your powers were yours to do whatever you wanted and even if at first you wanted to lay low so your father wouldn’t try looking for you, you realized that you simply could tell him no.
So the next morning, Hera woke up to you long gone. She later found you in a nearby park. Giving a small light show for tips. Tips that many people were happy to give. She never approached, she just watched.
The first day, you merely do little light tricks. A flick of your fingers here, a few little twinkles there. It was nothing grand but it did the trick. Not to mention the amount of people that wanted a photo with you. You made a good amount. She even tipped you without saying anything. That made your heart flutter.
After work, she tried finding you again but you were long gone. The shelter wouldn’t take you back again but you had made enough to buy a night at a nearby hotel. That night you spent watching old movie musicals and infomercials for signing child stars. It gave you your next idea.
With the little money you had left, you found a second hand place. Got yourself an old boombox and a CD of oldies. One song in particular that you knew by heart by now on the album. Then you headed back to the park and started your first unofficial show.
People came. Despite how worn out your clothes looked and the mild stench that most likely radiated off of you, they still came. They came for pictures of course but they did stay for the show. With each bellow of the song’s chorus on the radio, your physical movements followed suit with a dazzle. Some didn’t even want pictures which relieved you. Not that you weren’t thankful for the money but that person wasn’t you at the moment.
You weren’t Number 8 or The Light. You were just Y/N, a street performer who had the ability to channel light. Some people knew you could heal people, others didn’t. It was the perfect middle ground for you. And the best part of it all? Hera was there most of the time. Watching you. Praising you. Tipping you. Lip syncing to the music with you.
Then she approached you.
“You have a lot of promise, Y/N.”
There was a wide grin on your face. “Thank you! That means a lot coming from you.”
“I opened up my own cabaret a few weeks back. I wouldn’t hire you yet seeing as you’re still a minor and you wouldn’t be behind the bar but I’m sure I can find something for you to do.”
You looked up at her in shock. “Re-really?”
She nodded. “I can even give you somewhere to stay.”
That’s when you shook your head. “I can’t take up your couch again, I--”
“No, no, no. I brought two brownstones. Finally saved up enough for my dream. I wanted my place and I got it…but I also wanted somewhere for people like you to be safe. Now, I know it’s not ideal since you’ll still be rooming with folks but…it’s free room and board…” She shrugged. “Sort of.”
She looked over to you.
“Whaddya say?”
You had wasted no time in agreeing. Probably not the smartest move…again but you didn’t care. This felt like a dream to you. The ethereal woman you saw was offering to house you and even wanted to give you a job.
From this point on…you’d be her pupil. You were Sister Iris.
And she’d care for you just like Grace and Pogo did but without your dad’s limitations.
——✨——
Now
Mentally chanting ‘spin, spin, spin’ as you and the blue rope circled around Klaus’ body. Crudeness be damned but he looked like he was holding a shit in as his feet tapped rapidly against the carpeted floor.
“That’s it, tighter and higher.”
“Klaus, please don’t pop a chubber while I’m doing this.”
Klaus let out a shaky chuckle. “Too late~”
In responde, you yanked at the ropes. Earning a small grunt from Klaus.
“I still don’t think this is a good idea.”
“Will it make you feel better if you stayed with me?”
Your movements paused. He looked up at you, for a moment seeing the same doe-eyed little girl who used to follow him and Ben around. He felt some relief when you nodded. He really didn’t want to have to sit through this alone and with you, you’d be the less judgemental option. As you continued tying, he remembered just how thankful he was for you existing. Unbeknownst to you, Ben sat in a dark corner watching the two of you interact.
“I’m sorry…” Klaus let out.
“Don’t be…”
“No, I mean it. I don’t think I tell you thank you enough for putting up with me.”
“It’s not putting up with you.” You gently ran a hand through his hair. He felt warmth. “I really care about you, Klaus.” You knelt down beside him so that he was looking down at you. “I would gladly spend the end of days with all of you…even if y’all be working my nerves sometimes.”
Your brother laughed. “I…should’ve went to find you. I was always mad at myself that I didn’t go looking but dad said no and…when have I ever listened to that asshole? But…I was scared. We all were. First Five…then Ben…then you. I should have been there for you.”
“No…no, no, no, no, no Klaus. Don’t feel bad. You couldn’t be responsible for me forever. I never wanted you to feel guilty. Even if…I feel it worked out for me, it was still a rash decision that I felt for months after I ran away. All that matters is that…it worked out for me. You don’t know how happy I was to see you stumbling back into my life.” The last part you said with a heartfelt smile.
Hearing that, Ben felt heartbroken. Back then, he was so scared of moving on and Klaus had told him that he could go into the light at any time, it was the perfect cover. The terrible part of it is that he never got to say goodbye to you. The whole thing left you scarred, he knew that and he wished that you could see him. Maybe he could’ve stopped you from leaving?
Although, half of him was happy you got as far away from your dad as possible. Despite how your budding and….honestly inappropriate romance fizzled, he still loved you and he missed seeing your smiles directed at him. He missed how bubbly and loud you started becoming after that night you snuck out with Klaus.
All he ever wanted was for the both of you to be happy and it seemed like you were…but you weren’t…and he knew that. He was there for dad’s funeral, he saw your dazed look after Luther and Diego knocked over his statue. You were still hurting. It was, in part, why Klaus frustrated him so much. Even if he was telling the truth, Klaus was already known to be goofy so whatever message he had for you was always lost in translation.
All he wanted was for you to have closure. The closure you needed to finally put that part of your past away and be truly happy.
“I want you…to meet him.”
You tilted your head in confusion. “Him? Who?”
“Dave.”
“Dave? Why am I just hearing about a Dave?”
“When I was kidnapped by those assholes…I was terribly sober, one of the worst experiences of my life. All of the people they killed…it’s…it was terrible. When I finally escaped, I took this little briefcase they had cause I thought it had money and I could…pawn it off but…I went back in time.”
“Like…how Five went into the future?”
“Yeah but…also no. I popped up during the Vietnam War, at this camp in Shau Valley and…” A little smile crept onto his face. “That’s where I met him…Dave. Those days we spent together during all of that shit…was some of the best days of my life.”
You smiled. “I’ve never seen you this lovestruck before. Dave already seems like a catch.”
“Yeah, he really was.”
“I am having a hard time imagining you in old timey war…with your drama queen eyeshadow look.”
“Where there’s a will there’s a way sister~”
The both of you shared a laugh. Ben watched on, still completely enamored with you and how you’ve grown.
Klaus continued with his love drunk memories. “He was so kind, and strong, and vulnerable, and…beautiful. So beautiful that I was foolish enough to follow him all the way to the front line.”
“And you wanna be sober enough to conjure him because he’s…”
Klaus nodded. You looked down for a brief moment before looking back up at him.
“I’m sorry.”
Klaus didn’t respond.
“Klaus…I’d be happy to meet the man that has you head over heels.”
You took hold of his hand with a gentle smile and he held onto yours. There was a soft glow between the two of you. Mixing his blue aura with your white one, creating a simple lighter blue. Ben noticed the reaction, inching closer to the both of you to see what was unfolding.
Of course he knew Klaus was aware of him but what he wasn’t counting on was you seeing movement in the corner of your eye (once again) and looked dead at him. The smile that was one your face slowly fading away as you realized just exactly who you were looking.
“....Ben?”
But Klaus’ exclamation caught your attention again. A part of you thinking that it was just a figment of your imagination.
“Ah…shit!”
“What’s wrong?”
“I have to pee.”
“.........”
“.........”
“Are you fucking kidding me?”
——✨——
Then
When you and Klaus returned from your secret outing. You wasted no time in telling Ben the next day. He watched you with both concern and awe as you whimsically walked along the tables during your retelling.
“I can’t believe you let him talk you into sneaking out.”
The both of you were in the library by yourselves.
“It was so fun though, Ben!”
“Shh!” Not wanting to risk your dad hearing.
“It was so fun.” You whispered. “She was like this Angel. Everyone adored her. The whole thing was so breathtaking!”
“You could’ve gotten hurt.”
“She wasn’t even mad that two kids were there.”
“I’m gonna kill Klaus.”
You jumped off the table to Ben. “No, don’t. I feel like I had an awakening, Ben.” You then suddenly gasped with an idea. “You should come with me next time.”
Ben immediately shook his head. “Nope. Not happening.”
“Oh, come on.” You whined.
“You guys were lucky not to get caught last time. You can’t risk it again.”
“No one even noticed we were gone. The only time dad notices is when we leave a trail....like Luther and Allison did.”
Ben didn’t really have a quick rebuttal. Truthfully, he was nervous. It wasn’t like he was against breaking the rules every now and then and the part that desperately wanted to fit in with the others pleaded with him to yes.
Ben was also scared because Klaus has terrible survival instincts, which is why he wasn’t scared but he dragged you into it. Though, if you weren’t scared, that was a different story. He could trust you not to do anything too rash.
Maybe he should sneak out with you one night. It wouldn’t be all that different from whenever y’all snuck out for donuts, right? Then he can see this angel that put a spell on you. So much so that the energy around you felt different.
Hell, just you walking along the tables was new. You were on Cloud 9 and he wanted to be there with you. Who knows, maybe he’d find something he’d like out there…in that part of town…that’s not necessarily for kids at that time of night.
He shook his head. “I don’t know, Y/N…”
You knelt before him and took hold of his hands, making him jump a bit. “Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease, Benny?”
He rolled his eyes and laughed. “Don’t call me that.”
“Bennifer? Benson? Benito? Benerino? Benman?”
“If I say yes will you stop giving me horrible nicknames?”
You cutely nodded with a huge grin.
“Fine. Only once though and if something goes wrong, we’re not going back, ok?”
You nodded again. “OK! Promise!
“Now can we get back to studying?”
Your smile quickly turned into a pout. “Boo….”
——✨——
Klaus sat back down in the chair, allowing for you to begin redoing the process of tying him back to the chair. However, Klaus shot out the chair.
“Klaus!”
“You know, no, I--I think…I think this was…” He started stammering. “I think this was a bad idea. No. I just--. I should have had just one last hit to ease me into it. That’s all I need. I’ll be right back.”
He then tried to walk past you but you moved in front of him.
“Not happening, Klaus!”
“Glowbug please! You know how it works.”
“Sit!”
He tried to move past you in the gentlest way possible but you weren’t budging. Then he tried to force it to which your hand lit up with a white aura as you clocked him on the side of his face, knocking him down to the floor.
Ben winced at the sight but was still impressed. “Nice.”
He doesn’t remember you ever hitting any of the others outside of training. You huffed, your hands fidgeted a bit. Not really enjoying having to punch your brother. But because you had instiviley used your powers, there was no pain on your end. Clearly, the same couldn’t be said for Klaus as he groaned on the floor.
With him still reeling, you picked him up and placed him back in the chair, quickly continuing to tie him back up.
“You are going to see Dave. Whether you like it or not!”
“Glowbug!”
“No!”
“GLOWBUG!”
“NOPE!”
“Y/N, PLEASE!”
“This is for your own good.”
“If you let me go, I'll conjure Ben!” He pleaded.
You straightened up, looking down on him and Klaus let a whimpering smile out as he felt you were thinking about it. Ben came up behind, unbeknownst to you, leaning closure against your ear.
“Don’t.”
He didn’t know if you heard or felt him warning you. His only confirmation being…
SLAP!
“Get a hold of yourself!”
Klaus was speechless and a little scared as you leaned down to his eye level.
“If Ben were here, he would’ve done that. I don’t need to…see Ben as much as you need to see Dave. Understood?”
Ben smirked as you walked away, grabbing a bucket and placing it in front of him before walking over to a nearby wooden chair as Klaus thrashed about in the chair screaming your name. You wanted to leave the room so the screaming faded out but you sat there with him, like you told him you would. He kept pleading, crying, and wailing for you to let him loose until he even knocked the chair over, the thud causing you to wince.
Ben approached you and knelt beside you. Even though you couldn’t currently see him. It was still worth a shot after that little glimpse of what is capable.
“You’re doing the right thing, Y/N, and I’m proud of you.”
He gazed down at your hands clasped together, sitting over your thigh as it rose up and down from your nervous foot tapping. With a small glimmer of hope that you’d feel it, his hand went over and hovered over your own. He slowly lowered it until--to his shock--his palm made contact with your own, a blue hue enveloping his hand, leaving him shocked as he looked up at you and hoped that you’d look his way.
However, you didn’t. But you still felt a warmth pass over your hand that calmed down your anxiousness and allowed you to deeply exhale.
“Fuck…what next?” You muttered.
Once Klaus got to see Dave, then what? There was still the whole matter of the world ending and everyone was now split. There was no chance in hell. As you gazed up at the dust covered ceiling, you didn’t notice your hand glowing once again. The same as it did with Klaus earlier but you noticed it more now, especially with the gradual appearance of someone you thought you lost long ago.
You looked down slowly to see Ben kneeling next to you bathed in blue. When you made eye contact with him, his eyes grew wide. Klaus mumbled something but it was too out of focus for you to hear clearly.
“Ben.” You spoke in disbelief.
“Y/N…” He seemed relieved, a smile creeping on his face as he rose, still holding onto your hand. Afraid that if he let go, he’d lose this moment. You rose with him while he absentmindedly took hold of your other hand.
“Ho-How am I even seeing you?”
He stuttered. “I don’t know but I’m so happy you can see me.”
There was no stopping the tears that began forming in your eyes. “Ben…about what happened, I am so sorry--”
“No, no, no. Don’t do that. It killed me to see you blaming yourself. What happened to me was not your fault.”
“How couldn’t it be? I was the healer, I was supposed to heal you. I should’ve saved you.”
“I never once blamed you. I’ve always wanted to be able to tell you that.”
“Of course, I would finally get to see you when the world is about to end.” You laughed, wiping away a tear.
Ben chuckled. “That night before I died….I wish I told you--”
——✨——
Wednesday. 8:15 A.M
Klaus finally chimed in. “Hold on. Hold the phone. We all died fighting this thing the first time around. Remember?”
You nodded as Diego added on. “Klaus, shockingly, has a point. What gives us a win this time?”
A flash of lights erupted over all of you as you all jumped at the sound of cracking electricity. A smokish-like cloud forming above you, similar to the one Five initially came from. Suddenly, Five came falling from it, slamming on top of the bar.
“HOLY SHIT!” You shouted.
“JESUS!” Allison exclaimed.
Klaus, who had jumped back towards the nearby couch, pointing at Five. “You guys, am I still high, or do you see him, too?”
“Unless we’re all hallucinating…yeah, we see him.” You replied.
Luther approached Five as he sat up and fumbled off of the bar, dusting himself off. “Five, where have you been?”
Allison approached him. “Are you all right?”
“Who did this?” Luther asked.
Five caught notice of Allison’s coffee and took it without hesitation. “Irrelevant.”
He walked past you all as he downed the drink. His slurping the only noise filling the room. Once he was finished. He turned to look at all of you.
“So, the apocalypse is in three days. The only chance we have to save our world is…well, us.”
“The Umbrella Academy.” Luther spoke, there was a hint of pride in his voice.
“Yeah, but with me, obviously. So if y’all don’t get your sideshow acts together and get over yourselves, we’re screwed. Who cares if Dad messed us up? Are we gonna let that define us?”
You and Klaus ended up shaking your heads in unison as Five continued.
“No. And to give us a fighting chance to see next week, I’ve come back with a lead.” He held up a folded piece of paper. “I know who’s responsible for the apocalypse.”
Allison reached out and took the paper, opening it with anticipation.
‘Please, be Leonard.’ You thought.
“This is who we have to stop.”
REASSIGNMENT: PROTECT HAROLD JENKINS. Writing in all caps.
Allison was confused. “Harold Jenkins?”
“Fuck.” You muttered before straightening yourself up.
“Who the hell is Harold Jenkins?” Diego asked.
Five downed the rest of his drink before a moment of silence washed over all of you….and he shrugged.

Chapter 7: Nothing That Matters
“Oh, good,” Luther says as he sees Klaus. “You're up. We need to talk. You, me, and the others. So meet me in the living room. Like, now-ish.”
“Yeah, that sounds like a real rager,” Klaus replies. “But my schedule's already chock-full.”
“Yeah, no time for that,” Luther says. “The world's ending in three days.”
“Excuse me?” Y/N stares at him as Allison gives out the coffee she brought for everyone.
“Three days?” Allison repeats.
“That's what Five said,” Luther tells them.
“The old bastard did mention the apocalypse, come to think of it," Klaus says. “He just left out the part about how soon.”
The glow around Y/N shifts, intensifying before seeming to pull tighter around her. She rubs her arms. She thinks about everything she has talked to her brothers about in the past few days and consciously pulls the Wisp in to try and hide her feelings better than she has in the past. She and Five used to be close. It's not until she feels Diego next to her that she looks at him. “I thought it was drunk hyperbole,” she tells him.
“We all did,” Diego assures her.
“But can we trust him? I don't know if you've noticed, but Five's a little…”  Allison asks, whistling and gesturing that he is cuckoo.
“Our little psycho,” Klaus chuckles.
“He was pretty convincing,” Luther notes. “If he wasn't trying to stop an apocalypse, those lunatics wouldn't be chasing him.”
“That's why they were after him?” Diego asks.
“Yeah.”
“What did Five even see?” Allison asks Luther.
Luther hesitates, “Uh... Apparently, we all fought together against whoever was responsible.”
“And he didn’t tell you, Y/N?” Allison asks.
“No, he told me that he had it handled, and he’d tell me if it didn’t work.”
“I guess it didn’t work,” Diego states.
“Okay.” Luther says awkwardly as he stands up from his seat, seemingly wanting to move on. “So, here's the plan.” Luther begins, “Uh, we go through Dad's research…”
“Wait, what?” Allison asks. “Hold on, hold on.”
“Maybe I should try and find those assassins. I can-” Y/N starts.
“We need a plan first,” Diego tells her.
“As I said, Dad’s research,” Luther tries to explain again.
“Wait a tick, wait a tick, wait a tick.” Klaus asks. “What actually happened the first time around?”
“Yeah." Diego agrees. "What are you not tellin' us? Come on, big boy, spit it out.”
Luther sighs and mumbles an answer. “We died.”
“What was that?” Allison asks him.
He coughs and clarifies. “I said, uh, we died.”
Y/N reaches over without thinking and grabs Diego’s hand. He grips her hand tight. It is too quiet as it seems to sink in.
Diego tosses a knife in the air and catches it like a nervous habit behind the bar. Y/N has her elbows on the bar in front of them and rubs at her temples. He watches her closely as she leans heavily against the surface.
"No, we need to figure this out."
"Is it just us?"
"It's everybody."
"In the house?"
"The whole planet?"
"No, outside the house."
"Everyone died."
"Wow," she breathes and startles slightly when she feels a hand on her back. She looks up to find a slightly concerned-looking Diego glancing from her to the entryway where Viktor and Leonard now stand. She follows his gaze and immediately strengthens up. Diego's hand stays where it is. She finds it oddly comforting. She isn't used to people showing up and her not noticing through the Wisp. Her brothers might be right, and she is pushing it too far. She leans into Diego without thinking. He doesn't seem to mind. He just shifts his arm around her shoulder and pulls her in tight against his side. On instinct, she pulls the Wisp in as much as she can to dim her glow and lets Diego sort of shield her from the stranger now in the room.
Viktor gives her an odd look at how she practically shrinks into Diego's side before shifting their gaze to Diego's stern look and then to the others.
"Hey."
"Hmm?"
"What's going on?" Viktor asks.
"It's a family matter."
"A family matter. So you couldn't bother to include me."
"V, we-" she tries but gives up as the others start. She just leans further into Diego.
"You're okay. I got you," he whispers to her, nearly against her temple, before he turns back to watch the rest of the group.
"No, it's not like that," Luther tries.
"We were-"
"Don't let me interrupt," Viktor tells them.
"Wait."
"I'll fill you in later when we're alone," Allison tells her.
"Please, please, don't bother,” Viktor says. “And I won't either."
"Viktor, that's not fair."
"Fair? There's nothing fair about being your brother,” Viktor looks at them all. “I have been left out of everything for as long as I can remember. And I used to think it was Dad's fault, but he's dead. So it turns out you're the assholes."
“Ouch,” Klaus says. They all feel it.
Y/N leans her forehead against Diego’s shoulder and wishes the ground would just swallow her whole. They all feel guilty. Diego doesn’t like that feeling, so he does what he does best, focuses on something else. Something he can do. Like running his hand along her arm to anchor her. To give her something else to focus on too.
“Viktor’s just angry,” Diego whispers. “You always tried, but Dad never let him in on what mattered.”
“Doesn’t matter, V still hates us,” she says, but it comes out mumbled on his shoulder.
"I'm gonna go find Viktor and explain," Allison says.
"No, wait, there isn't time."
At that, Y/N just closes her eyes and basically gives up holding her own weight. She knows Diego has her. The Wisp is still hidden away. And she takes a moment to just embrace the dark. One moment of weakness won't kill her. She misses the confused look from Klaus and the concerned one from Luther. "Get on with it," Diego mouths, holding her tight as best he can with his good arm.
"We need to figure out what causes the apocalypse," the discussion starts again.
"Now, there are loads of possibilities. Nuclear war, asteroids.” Everyone seems to be at least somewhat focused.
She just listens.
“But I'm thinking this is about the Moon."
"Right? Dad must have sent me up there for a reason,” Luther agrees. "And I was giving him daily updates on the conditions, I sent field samples."
"The first thing we need to do-is find his research."
"Hold on. Hold the phone," Klaus interrupts. "We all died fighting this thing the first time around. Remember?”
“Klaus, shockingly, has a point,” Diego says. “What gives us a win this time?"
"Five. Last time we didn't have him. We weren't all together. This time, we'll have the full force of the Umbrella Academy. That's what we need."
"So, where's Five now?"
"Nowhere I've found," she says as she finally opens her eyes and lets the Wisp form. She attempts to strengthen her resolve. They have too much to do. It’s selfish for her to put all her strength in Diego. He has his own fight to finish. She moves to stand on her own.
"Well, he had a plan to change the timeline," Luther informs. “He'll be back soon."
"I'm going after Hazel and Cha-Cha," Diego says as he pulls away from her now that she has it more together. She smiles sadly. She knew he’d say that.
"What, right now?" Luther asks.
"Hell, yeah. Three days. I'm losing light by the minute."
"Wait, Diego," Luther tries to stop him. "Look, I know you wanna avenge your friend, but we got a bigger problem here."
"She wasn't just some friend. If I'm gonna die, I need to know I killed those bastards first."
"It's not about Dad," Diego says.
"It's not about me."
While Diego and Luther argue, Klaus looks at Y/N
“You okay, Sunshine?” Klaus asks.
“Just a bit tired,” she admits. “How about you? You look a little green around the gills.”
Klaus chuckles. “No need to worry about me, Sunshine.”
“Wanna take a nap like the old days?” she asks.
“Don’t tempt me with a good time,” Klaus smirks. “But raincheck, there’s something I need to do.”
“Okay.” She huffs a laugh.
"The longer I wait, Hazel-” Diego continues to argue.
“You don't have to do this alone,” Luther tells him. "I know how important this is to you."
"Stop making it about you." Diego glares.
"I'm coming with you," she says since she couldn’t convince Klaus to rest. Maybe she could help keep Diego out of trouble.
"You're staying here," he tells her.
"Not happening," she shakes her head.
"Not up for debate," he insists. "You're exhausted, and you didn't even notice Viktor got here. Your guard is down because you need sleep. Fin de la discusión."
"Klaus? Klaus?” Luther looks at Klaus as he starts to leave. “Klaus!"
Klaus is caught. "Yeah! Sorry."
"So, what?” Luther affronts. “You're giving up on the world, too?"
"Yeah, pretty much.” Klaus nods. “Yeah. Mm-hmm."
"So that's it. You're cool with us all dying in three days? I can't believe it."
"It's just us,” Luther looks at Allison, but Allison already has her mind made up. He can tell she does. “Oh, please, not you, too."
"I have to book a flight back to LA. If this happens I have to be with my daughter, custody be damned. And you said it yourself we need the full force of the Academy to even stand a chance.
I'm sorry, Luther."
Luther looks over at Y/N.
“I’m here, Luther. I’ll help, but Diego’s right. I’m no use to anyone if V and her friend could get the drop on the Wisp. Anyone can. Just give me a couple of hours to rest up, you find that research, and I’ll help you go through it. Or I can search once I’ve gotten some sleep.”
“Fine,” Luther relents.
“It’s a few hours, and then I can get back to going at lightspeed. I’ll be able to literally speed this process up. So, wake me up when Five gets here, or you find anything. Okay, big brother?” She gives his forearm a squeeze to attempt to reassure him.
“Yeah, okay, I will.” He agrees. He notices Allison raising an eyebrow as she gathers her things.
“We get gruff, and she gets off easy?” Allison smirks, but there is a hint of hurt to it. “Since when is she your ‘little sister’? Or is it because you’re Number One and she’s Number Eight?”
Luther is confused for a second by the strange look. “She says it because I’m literally huge now. She thinks it’s funny, and it’s not mean, not the way she means it. It…solidarity? I don’t know. It’s- she wanted me to know I’m not the only that can’t hide who they are. She can’t just turn the glow off. She means well. But that’s not important. She’s right. She needs sleep. She’s the only other person that has been trying to get everyone on the same team. And honestly, she keeps Diego in line better than anyone else. She’s trying to help, probably too much. And that’s more than anyone else is willing to do. That and her plan actually works and could benefit all of us. I don’t see anyone else trying. Or staying.”
“Rude,” Allison says. “But point taken.”
Y/N goes to get something to eat and is absolutely shocked to see Grace.
“Mom?” she smiles.
“Y/N, are you alright? You look tired.”
“I am, but you’re back. That’s great. Diego will be so happy.”
Grace smiles. “How can I help you?”
“It’s fine I was just going to get a snack and take a nap.”
“Sit, I will make you something to eat,” Grace tells her.
“That’s not necessary, Mom, I can-”
“If you truly are tired, then I must insist,” Grace states. “It’s for your safety. Can’t risk our little ray of sunshine.”
She knows better than to argue with Grace. So she sits at the table and waits. Grace starts to make her something to eat. She smiles when Grace sets a bowl of fresh oatmeal in front of her.
“Something hearty that hopefully won't upset your stomach while you rest,” Grace tells her.
“You always know just what we need,” she smiles up at Grace. “Thanks, Mom.”
“Anytime, Y/N,” Grace returns her smile easily. “I am happy to help.” She listens to Grace tidy up the kitchen as she eats.
“I hate this room,” Diego says.
“Oh, it got me high enough. I picked it clean of anything of value after Daddy kicked the bucket.
That's it, tighter and higher. Ooh. Ouf! Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.”
“Fine.”
“Ooh! Aah! - Aah!”
“If I see a boner, I'm out,” Diego tells him. “End of the world and you wanna get sober all of a sudden. Don't get me wrong, man. Good by you. But I'd think you'd wanna pop every pill on the planet.”
“Oh, the thought did cross my mind, believe me,” Klaus admits, “but there's something I need to do, and the whole pesky thing doesn't seem to work unless I'm sober.”
“Is this is about conjuring the one you lost? What was her name?”
“His name was Dave,” Klaus says. “We soldiered together in the A Shau Valley in the Mountain of the Crouching Beast.”
“Well, Dave must have been a very special person to put up with your weird-ass shit.”
“Yeah,” Klaus agrees. “Yeah, he was He was kind, and strong, and vulnerable, and beautiful.
Beautiful. And I was foolish enough to follow him all the way to the front line.”
“You fought in the shit?” Diego is a bit shocked.
“Oh yeah, baby.”
“How'd they let you do that?”
“Let me? War couldn't take enough bodies. Please. Including his.”
“Hey, look at us,” Klaus says. “Loggin' in some quality bro time before the end of the world.”
“Yeah, might as well.” Diego admits. “Everyone I like is already dead.”
“Ah, yes. The lady cop.”
“Yeah.”
“Mom, too. I let them both down. So here I am. Alone with you.” Diego pats Klaus’ shoulder.
“You still have Sunshine. Doesn’t Y/N count?” Diego doesn’t answer. He just turns to leave.
“Ah, shit!” Klaus curses.
“What?” turns around to ask.
“I need to pee.”
Y/N changes course on her way to her room when she hears voices in what is usually just a quiet storage area of the house.
“You know, no, I,” She hears Klaus say. “I think I think this was Whoa. Wait.” She hears when she is closer to the door. “I think this was a bad idea.”
“What is-” she asks herself but stops.
“I just I should have had just one last hit to ease me into it. That's all I need.”
She sighs.
“No, no, no.”
“I'll be right back,” Klaus says.
“I don't think so,” she hears Diego say.
“That's not how it works, Diego.”
“Nope,” Diego's tone confident. “Sit down.”
“Diego, listen,” she hears Klaus beg. “Just listen.”
“Sit.”
“Just listen.”
She moves closers when she hears Klaus coughing and groaning.
“Sit your ass down. Sit down. Sit down.”
“Nope.”
“Stop it!”
“Nope!”
“Get off!”
“Get…Get off! Get off!”
She couldn’t stand it anymore, she rushes in. “What the fuck?!” She stares in shock at the scene before her. Diego is tying Klaus to a chair.
“Sunshine!” Klaus shouts. But Diego doesn’t stop. “Damn it, Diego! - Damn it! Stop it!” Klaus puts up a fight. She goes to stop him.
“STAY PUT!” Diego shouts at Klaus. She slaps Diego across the face the moment he turns to her so he can explain. Both Diego and Klaus freeze, stunned by what just happened.
“EXPLAIN NOW!” she demands.
“He asked me to!” Diego shouts as Klaus goes to get up. Diego moves to stop him.
“STOP!” She shouts. “Just…stop.”
“Tell her,” Diego demands of Klaus.
“Sunshine, I-” Klaus starts. He eyes the angry red tint of the Wisp.
“The truth,” Diego instructs. When Klaus doesn’t say anything, she looks at Diego.
“He asked me to tie him up so he could sober up and would be able to summon the guy he lost.”
“And he changed his mind?” she asks.
“I’m right here,” Klaus grumbles.
“He’s an addict, of course he’s going to fight it, he-”
She held her hand up to stop him. “Okay, just…” she weighs her options. None of them seem anything short of painful or distressing. “And you both agree this is the only way?”
“He said it was," Diego explains. "And he agreed the first time I tied him up. Then he had to pee.” She sighs and rubs at her temples. If Klaus had admitted that this is how it needs to be. It might be true. She knows how he is with these things. She gets why he asked Diego. He knew she wouldn't have done it. She caves too easily when Klaus begs. She just hates to see her siblings suffer.
“Okay,” she relents and waves at Diego. When it’s clear she might actually let Diego finish, Klaus starts begging again.
"Seriously?" Klaus stares at her. "Come on, Sunshine, please."
"If you told him this was the only way," she says. Diego takes it as the go-ahead to keep tying Klaus up.
"Don't you love me?" Klaus tries, his eyes on her.
"Of course, but if I-" she starts, but Diego isn't having it.
"Don't put this on her," Diego scolds. "You asked for this. She offered you a nap and probably cuddles like when you were kids. You said no. You said it has to be this. We already went over this."
“Listen, listen. Listen to me. Listen to me. I can conjure her for you,” Klaus tells him. His sister gapes in shock. “Patch! I can-”
“Don't use her name like that, okay?” Diego half snaps. She looks between them, unsure if she should step in and just end this entire situation.
“Sunshine, please,” Klaus looks up at her.
“Diego, maybe-” she starts.
“We all know he can't conjure shit until clean,” Diego says to her before turning back to Klaus. “I don't wanna see her until I can tell her that I buried the bastards that killed her.”
“Please. Please, Y/N, Diego. Please. Please.” Every alarm is going off in her head to help him.
“Trust me, Luz, this is probably the safest way to do this. He can't hurt himself this way,” Diego tries to assure her before again turning to Klaus and holding up a bucket. “This is for next time. Puke, pee, whatever you need. Multipurpose. See?”
“Diego…” she starts, but he stands up and grabs her wrist, and tugs her towards the door.
“He’ll thank us later.”
“Y/N! Diego! Guys, please come back! Diego! You prick!”
Diego doesn’t let her go until they can’t hear Klaus shouting anymore.
"Luz," he starts as he sees her looking back the way they came. "You have to trust me. Trust him."
"Maybe I should use Wisp to-" she starts to walk back, but he cuts her off.
"To what? Make sure he stays in the chair while he begs and prods at your psyche. He will say anything in that state. You heard him. He already questioned if you loved him. And we all know you do. Because you have always looked after him. He will tear you down, and you'll end up hurting. And he'll sober up and then feel bad, I would hope. He'll apologize, and you will forgive him, but ultimately, you'll both be more broken and worse off than you started. Or you cave, he gets high, he still ends up hurting you, and none of us can do anything. So I'm going to stop you now because I don't want any of that. Not for you. Not for him. This is what he wants. To see Dave, to be able to use his powers for something other than the shit dad made him do. I know you are used to saving him, but if we survive all this, he needs to be able to do this all on his own." She looks back down the hall.
"But he-"
"Hey," he grabs her chin gently with his good hand and turns her to look at him. "This sucks for you after what happened. You thought you lost him. I know, but it'll be good for you too. You won't have to worry as much if he is sober and can handle things better."
"Okay," she agrees.
"Good," Diego pulls her into a one-armed hug.
"But are you okay?" She asks when they pull apart.
"What?" He looks at her. "He didn't make it easy to do one-handed but-"
"He brought up Patch, and earlier, you said-"
"I just want to find the assholes that killed her-"
"And shot both of us," she adds.
"Oh, I haven't forgotten," he grumbles. "And we don't have much time to do it."
"Want me to look for them?"
"Not yet, but if it comes to it, I'll let you know."
"Okay."
He makes sure she actually goes to her room before he heads downstairs to leave. He is shocked when he runs into Grace.
"How are you walking around?" Diego asks Grace.
"One foot in front of the other," she replies easily. "Why? How do you do it?"
"Mom, I - What's the last thing you remember?"
"Oh, let's see," she begins. "March 21st. Sunset was 7:33 p.m. Moon was waxing crescent. Dinner was Cornish hen, rice, carrots."
"Mom, that happened over a week ago," Diego tells her. "Do you remember anything else?"
"No. Not until I made breakfast earlier for Y/N," she admits before adding. “I suppose that's odd.”
“You made breakfast for Y/N?” He asks. His sister hadn’t mentioned it. Then again, she had been focused on Klaus when she found them. He can’t really blame her for not mentioning it. But it was odd.
"She looked so tired, but she was headed off to her room to rest when she finished. Is she not there now? I should check-”
“No, Mom, she’s there. I just left her there.”
“That’s good. She needs her rest,” Grace says before shifting the topic. “I wonder what the weather is like today. It would be nice to go to the park."
"Dad, never let you off the grounds," Diego tells her. Grace grips his good hand.
"Your father isn't here anymore," she says, hinting she knows more, but Diego doesn't notice, or if he does, he doesn't care.
"You can do whatever you want, Mom," he states.
“Unless you’d rather wait for your sister?” Grace offers.
“No, no…she needs her rest,” he nods. “Let’s go.”
He takes her for a walk in the park, where no one can hear them.
"Dad was wrong for keeping you locked up all those years. I should have said something. We all should have."
"There's something else that needs to be said, Diego. Pogo and I, we've been lying. Lying to all of you."
*Five resets everything, and it’s back to earlier in the day, 8:15 a.m.*
Diego keeps Y/N tucked into his side and ignores the odd looks he gets from their siblings. He really doesn't care.
"We all died fighting this thing the first time around." He feels her tense against him as Klaus reminds them. "Remember?"
"Klaus, shockingly, has a point," Diego says. "What gives us a win this time?"  He moves to block her from the violent swirling portal and pulls a knife to face any threat that comes through. Five drops out of the portal and onto the bar with a briefcase. Diego feels her grip tighten on his shirt.
"Je-Jesus!" Allison startles.
"You guys, am I still high," Klaus asks. "Or do you see him, too?"
"Five?" Y/N asks as she moves out from behind Diego. "What happened?"
"Five, where have you been?"
"Are you all right?"
"Who did this?
Five steals Allison’s coffee after getting down off the bar.
"Irrelevant." Five says. "So, the apocalypse is in three days. The only chance we have to save our world is, well, us."
"The Umbrella Academy," Luther adds.
"Yeah, but with me,” Five states. “Obviously. So if y'all don't get your sideshow acts together and get over yourselves, we're screwed."
"Who cares if Dad messed us up? Are we gonna let that define us? No." Klaus shakes his head, seemly agreeing with what Five has said. Five continues. “And to give us a fighting chance to see next week, I've come back with a lead."
"I know who's responsible for the apocalypse,” he tells all of you. “This is who we have to stop."
"Harold Jenkins?” Allison reads.
“Who the hell is Harold Jenkins?" Diego asks.

The Umbrella Academy: Firecracker - The Day that Wasn't (6/30)
Tumblr media
Umbrella Academy Masterlist
warning: nothing actually
word count: 3490
Wednesday, 8:15 AM. The Umbrella Academy.
"Three days?", Allison asked handing everyone their coffees.
"That's what Five said.", Luther confirmed.
"That bastard did mention the apocalypse now that think of it.", Klaus commented sitting next to Nailah on the sofa. "He just left out the part how soon."
"But can we trust him? I don't know if you've noticed but Five's a little...", Allison swirled her finger next to her head signalling craziness.
"Our little psycho.", Nailah chuckled affectionately which earned her a disdained look from Diego.
"He was pretty convincing. If he wasn't trying to stop an apocalypse, those lunatics wouldn't be chasing him.", Luther assured.
"That's why they were after him?", Diego asked clearly still in disbelief.
"What did Five even see?", Allison asked Luther.
Luther began stuttering:"Uh, apparently, we all fought together against whoever is responsible." Everyone looked at him expectantly.
Luther just stood in front of them in a presenting manner: "Okay. So, here's the plan. We go through dad's research..."
"Wait, what?", Allison interrupted him.
"Wait a tick. What actually happened the first time around?", Klaus asked. At the word tick, Nailah straightened her back. Hurriedly she grabbed a notebook and pencil that were lying around and began aggressively scribbling some numbers, symbols and letters. Everyone looked at her in confusion but chose to ignore it.
"Yeah, what are you not telling us? Come on big boy, spit it out.", Diego asked. Luther looked at Nailah in a questioning manner. "Don't look at me. You're Number One, Primo.", she said not looking up from the paper.
Luther sighed heavily:"We died.", he said and took a large sip from his coffee.
"What was that?", Allison asked not quite believing what she just heard.
"He said we died.", Nailah helped him out. Everyone looked at each other in shock.
"It is just us?", Allison asked.
"No, it's everybody."
"In the house?"
"No, outside the house. The whole planet dies."
"Hey, what's going on?", they all turned around to face Vanya who was now standing in the saloon with Leonard by her side. Nailah's gaze darkened and Allison was equally pleased to see him there.
"It's a family matter.", Allison said and immediately bit her tongue.
"A family matter.", Vanya repeated. "So you couldn't bother to include me."
"No, it's not like that. We were...", Allison tried to rescue herself but to no avail.
"Don't let me interrupt.", Vanya said in a sad voice and turned around to leave the house.
"Wait. I'll fill you in later, when we're done.", Allison followed her.
"Please, please don't bother. And I won't either.", Vanya said facing Allison. Leonard positioned himself right behind her to which Nailah silently moved to do the same behind Allison. Even though Nailah had absolutely no opinion about Leonard she didn't like him securing Vanya's back the way he did. It was almost as if he was showing off his toy that had learned to speak.
"That's not fair.", Allison said.
"Fair? There's nothing fair about being your sister. I have been left out of everything for as long as I can remember. And I used to think it was dad' fault. But he's dead. So it turns out you're the assholes. Especially you two. Always two against one.", the last part Vanya clearly directed at Nailah standing behind Allison.
Vanya left the room leaving Leonard behind. He scanned both sisters with an unreadable expression. Allison and Nailah both send him a warning glance and he too followed Vanya to the exit. Walking back to the group Nailah whispered to Allison:"I get why you don't trust him." Allison send her a grateful glance.
"I'm gonna find Vanya and explain.", Allison announced but Luther stopped her: "Wait! There isn't time. We need to figure out what causes the apocalypse."
"Now, there are loads of possibilities. Nuclear war, asteroids but I'm thinking this is about the moon.", Luther began.
"The moon?", Nailah asked crossing her arms.
"Dad must've send me up there for a reason. And I was giving him daily updates on the conditions, I send him field samples. The first thing we need to do is find his research." ,Luther explained.
"Hold the phone. We all died fighting this thing the first time around, remember?", Klaus said sprawled out on the bar.
"Klaus shockingly has a point. What gives us a win this time?", Diego asked.
"Five. Last time we didn't have him. We weren't all together.", Luther said while Klaus paled dramatically clearly not feeling well.
"Yeah, where is he, by the way? I might have a solution to his problem.", Nailah said waving the notebook full of equations.
"Well, he had a plan to change the timeline. He'll be back soon.", Luther said and Nailah scoffed.
"Great. Then I'll just run the tests by myself.", Nailah scoffed and went upstairs too get some more of her old calculations.
"I'm going after Hazel and Cha-Cha.", Diego announced gathering his stuff and joined Nailah on the stairwell.
"Look, I know you wanna avenge your friend, but we've got bigger problems here.", Luther tried to stop Diego.
"She wasn't just some friend! If I'm gonna die, I need to know that I killed those bastards first.", Diego  shouted shaking off Luther's hand from his shoulder.
"Klaus?", Luther asked confused at the sight of a stumbling Klaus.
Klaus didn't react until Luther shouted at him. "Yes! Sorry. What do you want?"
"So what? You're giving up on the world, too?", Luther asked.
"Yeah. Pretty much. Mm-hmm.", Klaus confirmed.
"So that's it. You're cool with all of us dying in three days?"
Klaus just turned around groaning not bothering to further engage in this conversation. Luther scoffed turning to Allison. "I can't believe it. It's just us.", he said but immediately spotted the regret on Allison's face.
"Oh, please. Not you too.", he sighed.
"I have to book a flight back to LA. If this happens I have to be with my daughter, custody be damned. And you've said it yourself... we need the full force of the Academy to even stand a chance. I'm sorry, Luther.", Allison gently stroked Luther's cheek and she too left the room.
"Ah, shit.", Diego groaned trying to tie his boots. His broken arm was absolutely killing him.
"Hey.", Klaus said shyly appearing in the doorway with a bundle of rope around his shoulders.
"Hey, uh.. do you mind?", Diego asked.
"Oh yea, yea sure. I'll tie that up. If you tie me up later.", Klaus said tossing Diego the rope.
"Come again?", Diego asked confused.
"Sounds kinky.", Nailah commented appearing behind Klaus with a dark backpack filled to the brim with books and notebooks.
"How is it that you always seem to have more scientific stuff in your room?  It's like a black hole.", Klaus asked in a sleazy voice.
Nailah shrugged:"Science isn't a hobby. It's a lifestyle full of year long research. What'd you do anyways?" She motioned her head to Diego's arm.
"A souvenir from Hazel.", he said. "Again, why's you need me to tie you up?", Diego asked Klaus again.
"You know, last time I was sober was that roaring good time when those freaks had me tied up in the motel room.", Klaus said.
"You are one twisted bonehead.", Diego snarled.
"Why? You're that one that's always like 'Klaus, you need to. get sober, bro.'"
"There's better ways to get clean, though."
"Not for me there isn't. I need someone to take away my options."
"Fine. But she's coming too. I'm defiantly not taking full responsibility for this.", Diego said tossing the rope to Nailah.  "Fine by me.", she said and they all made their way to the attic.
Luther was frantically looking for any sign of his samples but to no avail.
"Everything alright, Master Luther?", Pogo asked.
Luther spun around facing the ape: "Where are they? The boxes, the reports, the samples? All the correspondence I sent from the moon?"
"I'm not sure. Your father was a very private person... ", Pogo began.
"Stop it, Pogo! You know everything out dad did.", Luther panted heavily.
Pogo sighed in defeat and pointed to the floor with his cane. Luther immediately tipped the wooden foorpiece out and began scattering the packets he had send from the moon all over the floor. To his confusion he saw that they were all unopened.
Diego and Nailah had chained Klaus to the chair and were now circling him with the rope.
"I hate this room.", Diego grunted annoyed.
"Tighter, higher.", Klaus ordered sweating.
Nailah looked at him with scepticism and then at Diego. She shrugged and both she and Diego pulled harder.
Klaus winced: "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Ah! Ahh!"
"Yeah, if I see a boner, I'm done.", Nailah said with a disgusted look on her face. "That would be too weird even for me."
Diego glared at her. "What?", she asked. "Too weird even for you? Didn't know that existed."
"You're one to talk. You're in spandex trying to make a reasonable impression."
"It's leather."
"Whatever."
Nailah and Diego glared at each other again.  "End of the world and you wanna get sober all of a sudden. Don't get me wrong, man. Good by you. But I'd think you'd wanna pop every pill on the planet.", Diego scoffed at Klaus.
"Yeah, that thought crossed my mind, believe me, but there's something I need to do, and the whole pesky thing doesn't seem to work unless I'm sober.", Klaus groaned.
"Is this about conjuring the one you lost?", Nailah asked softly.
"What was her name?", Diego asked after a minute of silence from Klaus.
"His name was Dave. We soldiered together at the A Shau Valley in the Mountain of the Crouching Beast.", Klaus corrected.
"Well, Dave must've bee a very special person to put up with your weird-ass shit.", Diego said and earned a light slap from Nailah on the back of her head and a tired chuckle from Klaus.
"Yeah. Yeah, he was... kind. And strong. And vulnerable. And... beautiful. And I was...  foolish enough to follow him all the way to the front line.", Klaus lost himself in the memories for a moment.
"You fought in the shit?", Diego asked impressed.
"Oh, yeah, baby."
"How'd they let you do that?", Nailah asked.
"Let me? War couldn't take enough bodies. Please. Including his.", Klaus sniffed sadly.
Nailah looked at Diego then back at Klaus. She carefully leaned down and put her arms around Klaus. Everybody knew Nailah hated being touched and Klaus enjoyed the demonstration of affection, knowing it came from the depths of her heart.
"Hey, look at us. Loggin' in some quality sibling time before the end of the world.", Klaus commented when Nailah let him go.
"Yeah, might as well.", Diego said securing the last part of the rope.
"Everyone I like is already dead.", Diego mumbled to himself. "Ah, yes. The lady cop.", Klaus said. "Yeah, mom, too. I let them both down. So here I am. Alone with you two."
Klaus looked at his siblings in an affectionate manner. Diego pat his shoulder and both he and Nailah made there way down.
"Ah, shit!", Klaus shouted in the last second. "What?", Diego and Nailah asked in unison.
"I need to pee.", Klaus confessed.
"Not it!", Nailah screamed running down the stairs.
"Nailah!", Diego shouted after her. He sighed and made his way to untie Klaus again.
Allison quietly entered Reginald's old study where Luther was sitting on the floor.
"So, I couldn't get out a flight until tonight, and I don't know what to do. I can't just sit here so I'm gonna head to the airport and wait.", she said.
"I just wanted to say goodbye.", she added after Luther didn't react.
"Luther?", she asked placing a hand on his shoulder. Luther inhaled sharply.
"I've found dad's research from my mission on the moon.", he said in a dead voice. Allison looked around the room confused.
"Every single package was still sealed. He never opened them because he never cared what I was doing up there.", Luther continued. "Four years of my life. A lie."
"What an asshole.", Allison commented.
"I'm not the right person to stop this apocalypse, Allison."
"Hey, Luther. Don't say that"
"No, the world needs a leader and I'm not it. I'm not. Dad knew it and now I know it. I'm done."
Allison smiled mischievously. "Can I show you something?", she asked.
Allison led Luther to the for they had build as kids. They shared a sweet moment together which included over ten year long expired sodas and Allison showing Luther that she still had the locket he had given her.
"You know what? I think I'm okay. I think it's better if I don't do this.", Klaus said standing up from the chair having changed his mind about contouring Dave.
"Nope. Sit down.", Diego said putting a warning hand on Klaus' chest.
"Diego, listen. Listen. Just listen.",  Klaus began and tried to run past his brother but Diego knew the drill. He quickly punched Klaus in the stomach and dragged him to the chair.
"Damn it, Diego! Stop! Stop it! No, no! Get off!"
Diego grabbed Klaus in a death lock. "Shut up! "
"I can conjure her for you. Patch. I can...", Klaus began in desperation.
"Don't use her name like that!", Diego screamed. "You can't conjure shit until you're clean. I don't wanna see her until I can tell her that I've buried those bastards that killed her."
"Please, Diego. Please.", Klaus begged but Diego only fastened the rope.
Diego reached for a blue bucket nearby slamming it on the floor causing Klaus to flinch: "This is for next time, hmm? Puke, pee whatever you need. Multipurpose. See?"
Diego stood up angrily and left the attic without looking back.
Klaus shouted after him:"Diego! Come back! Diego, you prick!"
In Nailah's apartman hell seemed to have been loose. Loud, harsh rock music was playing through all possible speakers as Nailah scribbled around her notebooks in frustration.
"Where the hell are you, Five.", she mumbled to herself angry that she wasn't able to solve the equations by herself.
She'd had a brilliant idea. Hell, she'd even been snooping around Five's room in hopes of finding some useful information but all she found were time and space altering functions.
Nailah got up from her chair and took another sample of her blood. After quickly checking it under the microscope she then placed it in the pod and changed the parameters with the variables she had gotten from her last calculations. She let the pod close with a dull thumb and set it to 5 minutes. This should equal about a month of aging.
The machine whirred and then went silent. Only the green screen indicated that it was still working. Nailah sighed in exhaustion and ruffed her curly hair out as if to shake out the nerves. Why wasn't it working.
As soon as the 5 minutes were over, Nailah placed the blood sample under the microscope. Stunned she actually saw changes. Quickly she placed the sample in her Ager and waited for the result. With a quiet ping the screen was illuminated with exactly 2.678.400 seconds more age than before it was placed in the pod. Nailah nearly screamed in happiness.
It had worked.
Quickly she grabbed Five's bloody bandage she had found in his room. She checked the vitality of the blood and as soon as she was sure it was still living, she placed it in the Ager. It showed pretty exactly the age of a 13year old body.
Happily she placed the sample in the pod. She adjusted the parameters to fit Five's specifics as well as his ability to time travel. She had a long time ago figured out the molecular and biochemical differences between him and the rest of their siblings.
The machine whirred again and after 5 minutes Nailah put the sample in the Ager again. She began chewing on her nails, nervous if. it had worked. The Ager pinged quietly making her jump up. Nailah glanced at the screen.
2.678.400 seconds more than before.
Nailah Hargeeves had just managed to artificially age up an organism without damaging it.
What an addition to her portfolio it would be.
Vanya leaned down in Leonard's house to pick up socks he had forgotten to take with him to put in the dryer. Something in a familiar red color flashed before her eyes. Leaning down further Vanya peaked under the bed and pulled the object out.
It was a red notebook with golden letters on it: R.H.
Reginald Hargreeves.
Vanya opened a page and scanned the contents. They were all about her. Number Seven.
Why did Leonard have this?
Five grabbed a briefcase from the commission's storage room. The commission was going down in flames, or at least Five hoped it did. He may not have the capacity to end it but he very much had to capacity to cause havoc.
Five ran out of the storage room leaving a grenade inside. A few seconds later the storage room exploded. Five opened the briefcase. He could only hope he travelled enough time back to save the world.

Wednesday, 8:15 AM. The Umbrella Academy.  (...again)
The air around the bar began swishing and crackling with electricity. A blue light appeared and Five fell down from thin air onto the bar.
The siblings stared at Five for a moment in silence.
"You guys, am I still high or do you see him too?", Klaus asked.
"I'm not high and I see him.", Nailah said moving some strands of Five's bangs from his forehead to see if he was still breathing.
"Five, where have you been?", Luther asked.
"Are you okay?", Allison wanted to know. Five just rolled down the bar nearly injuring himself even more.
The group spotted his scratched face full of soot and blood. "Who did this to you?", Nailah asked in a tone mixed out of. disgust and concern.
Five spared her a glance: "Irrelevant." He grabbed Allison's coffee mug and emptied it in one huge gulp. Nailah scoffed at the arrogance.
"So, the apocalypse is in three days. The only chance we have to save our world is, well, us."
"The Umbrella Academy", Luther confirmed.
"But with me, obviously.", Five added.
"Modest.", Nailah commented.
"So if y'all don't get your sideshow acts together and get over yourselves we're screwed. Who cares if dad messed us up? Are we gonna let that define us? No. And to give us a fighting chance to see next week I've come back with a lead.", Five announced holding a piece of paper up.
"I know who's responsible for the apocalypse. This is who we have to stop.", he handed the note to Allison.
"Harold Jenkins?", Klaus asked confused.
"Who the hell is Harold Jenkins?", Diego added at the same time.
"That's what we have to find out. Nailah, how are you doing on the aging me up thing?", Five slurped the last bit of his second coffee.
Nailah raised a brow: "What's that now? What happened with getting over ourselves and getting. our sideshow acts together?"
"Will you, please, for once, just cooperate and answer the question?", Five sighed.
"Not quite done yet. But I'm close.", she said.
Five nodded satisfied:"I suppose that's better than nothing." Nailah scoffed in annoyance.
"Guys? Mind figuring that out later? We're kind of in the middle of saving the world.", Diego interrupted.

Lover? (1/2)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Five Hargreeves x F!Reader
Warnings: Age gap (?), angst, reader has powers, blood, no weird shit cuz he has the body of a boy, jealous Five, reader is not a Hargreeves, everyone being chaotic.
Author’s Note: I binge watched the whole show in a day, and I still can’t get enough of it. I LOVE IT! Also, I don’t know why but I hear ‘Lover’ by Eneli whenever I think of a story about Five. Is this a song fic then? Partially.
↳ Part 2
Tumblr media
Meeting the Hargreeves was purely coincidental. My mother was against giving me to Reginald Hargreeves and, therefore, my powers were highly prohibited in the house, or anywhere really. I had enough of her abusive behavior and ran away, after that, I won a life of luxury thanks to my songs and everyday practices. Ever since I let out a sound so high I almost destroyed an entire apartment, I never went a day without talking to someone, or at least to myself, just so I don't forget that I can and must speak.
I met Allison when she was speaking on the telephone with someone, although I was much more interested in the man following her than the conversation that brought the model to tears. I gave Allison a handkerchief with my best intention and invited her to coffee, only then I told her about that man. ONLY THEN... I got to meet a Hargreeves without me knowing. Allison only recognized me for my songs, and I ended up telling her the truth, that I'm just like her.
Afterward, all just went downhill when I met the rest of the Hargreeves. Diego is an asshole, not even said hello, Klaus is the embodiment of chaos, pretty much the mood, Luther is really sweet, just speaks too much about his father, I still haven't met Vanya, and Five is... What do you call a kid that has the mind of a 58-year-old man who won't stop teasing you?
Recently I've been visiting the Hargreeves since I almost got kidnapped by a man and a woman. I got the coffee Five likes just to find out he's been missing for a few days now, disappointed, I shared the coffee with his family. "Can't believe the world ends in three days..." I said, crossing my arms as I sat next to Klaus. "That's what Five said." Luther muttered, taking a sip of his coffee. "The old bastard did mention the apocalypse, come to think of it. He just left out the part about how soon." Said Klaus as he changed his posture to drink. "But can we trust him? I don't know if you've noticed, but Five's a little..." Allison whistled as she pointed to her head, Klaus and I smiled amusedly. "Our little psycho."
"Everything Five said until now seems to be true, we've even been attacked without doing anything. I don't believe those idiots were after him for fun." Luther agreed with me. "(Y/N)'s right. If he wasn't trying to stop an apocalypse, those lunatics wouldn't be chasing him."
Diego raised an eyebrow, glancing between his brother and me. "That's why they were after him?" I pursed my lips into a thin line as Luther nodded. "Yeah."
Allison gently tapped Luther's shoulder to get his attention. "What did Five even see?" The male stared at the model for a few moments with an unreadable expression. "Uh... Apparently, we all fought together against whoever was responsible." He looked at everyone as we urged him to go on, but he never did, on the contrary, he decided to change the subject. "Okay. So, here's the plan. Uh, we go through Dad's research--"
"Wait, what?"
"Hold on, hold on!"
"Nooo, come back here!"
"Wait a tick, wait a tick, wait a tick. What actually happened the first time around?" Klaus asked, along with Diego. "Yeah. What are you not tellin' us? Come on, big boy, spit it out."
Luther muttered something before drinking his coffee. "What did you say?" I questioned him. Luther coughed and exclaimed out quite calmly, more than I expected. "I said, uh, we died." The silence is so annoyingly terrifying. I choked on my saliva as Klaus screamed, an umbrella fell and opened, thus breaking the silence. "You... You have to be kidding me. How do we die? I was there too?" I asked with genuine confusion. "Yes, you were. Why do you think Five recognized you as soon as he saw you?" I blinked many times and let my back touch the soft couch, a hand resting on my face as Klaus began speaking. "Destiny is a bitch."
"For real." I started, getting up from the couch. "What do we do then? We can't wait for Five to magically appear."
"She's right, we can't wait for him forever." As surprising as it is, Diego agreed with me on something, wow. His brothers and sister stared at him with widened eyes. "What?" Questioned Diego. "Nothing, we just expected that you would keep being an asshole to me."  I replied, receiving an annoying look from Diego. "Sure, keep thinking that after we saved each other's asses." I smiled brightly and we reunited at the bar to talk about our huge ass problem. "No one is going to get out until we figure this out." I said. "Is it just us?" Allison questioned Luther.
"It's everybody."
"In the house?"
"The whole planet?
"No, outside the house. Everyone died."
"Hey." We turned our attention to a girl wearing baggy clothes and a guy beside her, a guy that rubbed me the wrong way. "What's going on?"
"Who's that...?" I whispered to Diego, to which his mood changes a lot, even turning away. "Vanya." I replied with a small 'oh' and shut my mouth.
"It's a family matter." Allison informed as she, just like everyone else, looked very uncomfortable. Vanya snickered sarcastically as she glanced at me. "A family matter. So you couldn't bother to include me, but you let a stranger know everything about us." I slowly let myself kneel out of everyone's sight, but my wish was denied by Diego, who told me to stand and not be a coward. "No, it's not like that. She is-- Wait. I'll fill you in later when we're alone." Allison was interrupted by Vanya. "Please, please, don't bother. And I won't either."
"Vanya, that's not fair." The model's tone was changing to a sorrowful one. "Fair? There's nothing fair about being your sister. I have been left out of everything for as long as I can remember, and I used to think it was Dad's fault, but he's dead. So it turns out you're the assholes." Vanya left the room along with who I assumed is her boyfriend, leaving us to glance between ourselves awkwardly. "I'm gonna go find Vanya and explain." The model was about to leave but was stopped by Luther. "No, wait, there isn't time. We need to figure out what causes the apocalypse."
"How do we figure out something like that? Could be a natural disaster, a nuclear war, asteroids, the Moon, or a planet crashing against Earth." I informed, Klaus stared at me as he drank the last bit of his coffee. "You really know how to give me the hibbie jibbies." He muttered to me, to which I apologized. "I'm thinking this is about the Moon. Dad must have sent me up there for a reason, and I was giving him daily updates on the conditions, I sent field samples." I grinned a little when Klaus and Diego boredly sighed at Luther's mission again. "The first thing we need to do is find his research."
"Hold on. Hold the phone. We all died fighting this thing the first time around. Remember?" Says Klaus, and Diego is agreeing with everyone today, amazing. "Klaus, shockingly, has a point. What gives us a win this time?"
A light blinds us for a second and we stepped back as Five appear from nowhere with a suitcase. "You guys, am I still high, or do you see him, too?" Klaus muttered, and I went to help Five along with Allison and Luther. "Five, are you alright?" I asked.
"Where have you been?"
"Who did this?"
"Irrelevant." Five took the coffee from Allison and started drinking it until he needed to breathe. We only stared at him with averted eyes as he turned to us. "So, the apocalypse is in three days. The only chance we have to save our world is, well, us."
"The Umbrella Academy." Luther guessed, and I nodded. "And a plus with powers." I crossed my arms and let Five continue. "Yeah, but with me, obviously. So if y'all don't get your sideshow acts together and get over yourselves, we're screwed. Who cares if dad messed us up? Are we gonna let that define us? No. And to give us a fighting chance to see next week, I've come back with a lead." He showed us a paper and gave it to us. I know who's responsible for the apocalypse. This is who we have to stop."
We read the name on the paper with bewildered expressions. "Harold Jenkins?"
"Who the hell is Harold Jenkins?"
Time later, I got out of the building without the siblings noticing as they went on about that Harold Jenkins. I'm very skeptical about all of this, I mean, of course I believe Five but I'm not sure how I can help against the end of the world. Besides, Luther said we were together when we died, including me, so we must be doing something wrong even if Five is back before the disaster happened. I have better things to do and they won't need my help, they are the Hargreeves. "Where the hell are you going??" I jumped a little and turned around to find Five following me. I gawked at seeing him. Did he teleport here? "Five, please don't chase after me. I'm warning you."
"It'll probably be the last if we don't stop doomsday. You're running away, and I want to know why." Five is annoying, and I know that deep down he cares, however, most of the time I have to exhale deeply to stop myself from punching him. And, for fuck's sake, he just met me a few days ago, I want him to stop being so damn insufferable when it comes to me. "Luther told me I was there too. I'm starting to think that we're doing something wrong, maybe it's because we're together at the exact time we die. I'm sorry, Five. But even if I am one of you, that doesn't mean I can be useful." I turned and began walking away, deciding to ignore Five. "(Y/N)! Hey, don't ignore me--!"
Finally, his voice faltered.
// Timeskip //
At night, and just coming back from my worst date ever, I heard the bell ringing as someone cried from the other side. "(Y/N), please open the door!!" I widened my eyes and opened the door quickly, letting Allison and Diego carry an injured Five to my couch. "Jesus, what happened?!" I shouted, Allison was panicking by now. "He was shot and didn't say anything! He told us you know first aid!" I cursed under my breath and went for the kit. I bit my tongue when I wanted to ask why they didn't go back to the academy, maybe they were closer to my house anyway.
After taking the bullet out and closing the wound, I bandaged it and put a blanket over him. I stared at Five for a moment. He's so irresponsible, instead of going to a hospital or his mother, he comes to my house and expects me to take care of him. Well... He's winning. "Did Five come here before?" Diego asked, and I nodded. "He kept his 'list of events' very private, save for the occasional opinion he wanted from me sometimes. Five's annoying, yes, but I can tell he worries."
"Klaus is right. In a way, you two look like... I don't know-- Like you understand each other more than you think." I smiled a little at what Allison said, but it quickly disappeared. "Perhaps... I can't help but laugh at the thought that we met while I was dead. Since Five saw me it's like he can't leave me alone for a hot minute, he already has Dolores."
"Dolores' a manequin, you are real." I glanced at Allison and Diego slowly. The model is trying not to smile while the latter raised his eyebrows way too high for my taste. "Nooo... Nooo, please not you too. I had enough with Klaus." I didn't let Allison continue as I stood from the couch and told Diego to carry Five to the guest room. "Now, you two go and do whatever you have to do. I will have to heal Five with my song."
"You can heal with your voice? How many things can you do??" I looked at Diego and smiled. "The music you hear makes you feel whatever it wants to, the sound making you feel a sensation in your chest. I can do the same thing, with no music, only words... Depending on my emotions, I can make you feel relaxed, happy, angry, sad... Completely knock you out, destroy an entire building, illusions..." I furrowed my eyebrows and sighed softly, directing my eyes back to Allison and Diego, who were staring at me in concern. "I've been through hardships, just like you." I muttered sweetly.
With a hug from Allison and a nod from Diego, they went on their merry way and left me with an unconscious Five.
I put his clothes to wash, sat on the bed, and made sure he wasn't cold, I couldn't help but stare at his wound as I did so. I don't know why I'm so nervous to sing to him, he did say I'm not bad... It's obvious I took it as a compliment for my poor, sensitive heart.
"Lover
And I think of my lover
How we held on each other
How there's no other one."
I shook my head and did my best to calm my heart, I grabbed his hand and rubbed it softly with my thumb. It's a song I've made out of my heart, of my everyday happenings. This hasn't happened for a long time.
"I'm at the, I'm at the coffee shop
A stranger comes walking and he's smoking hot
We bump in each other, oh my God
He asks if I'm okay, I say I'm not
My heart went, ra-ta-ta-ta
My mind said, 'nah-nah-nah'
He's such a player
Do I want him in my life?"
Five's wound is healing, I can feel it, but he'll still need to rest, which I doubt he'll ever do. I smile just by thinking about it, I have to ask his siblings to take care of him, even if Five is the older one.
"Lover
And I think of my lover
How we held on each other
How there's no other one,
He was in this coffee shop
With nobody by his side
How did we, how did we
Oh, how did we get in the same spot?
Though I'm just a stranger walking by
I can feel there's something with this guy
Oh, do I know him from another life?"
I close my eyes as his consciousness comes back slowly, and I feel much calmer than before. Knowing that Five is okay, not putting himself at risk...
"Lover
And I think of my lover
How we held on each other
How there's no other one,
His number on a cigarette
I said, 'I don't smoke, but I'll take it'
It's a one-way ticket, I can feel it
Tick tock, tick tock
I can't believe I did this
He's getting closer to me
And then I hear him say
'Will you be my... Lover?'"
The world stops, and I suddenly feel agitated at what I just did. This is meant to be a song to heal and the next song to my audience. What am I thinking?
I opened my eyes and averted them slightly, Five is awake and staring at me with a smile, small but genuine. I let go of his hand and check if he has a fever, to which he responds with a groan. "You always have to treat me like a kid."
"You can be 58 all you want, but with your body, many procedures will be different. I hope you know that." Five doesn't say anything, and we stay in silence for a while. We see the rain falling outside the window, and my mind goes empty. "Why didn't you say anything? And why did you come here? I believe Grace could've done a better job."
"But she wouldn't have healed me as fast as you. It's a fact." I want to punch him so hard right now, but I restrain myself. "I believe your date went as bad as I thought it would." I let out a long sigh and stared at Five again, his cheeky smile adorning his face. "How do you--??" I started, but he interrupted me. "The only times I don't see you pathetically joyful is when you either don't have a song or when someone insults you. What did he do?"
I furrowed my brows and shook my head. "Stop worrying about me when you don't know shit, Five." I kissed his forehead as his eyes widened in surprise, it's like he forgot how to speak. "Now, YOU wait here as I bring you something to eat." I went to the kitchen and took out a salad from the fridge, when I turned, Five was sitting on a chair and staring at me. "Five, what the fuck! I told you to stay in bed! You have to stop scaring me, it's not funny anymore!"
"Let me just get this straight, siren." He ignored me completely and went on as he numbered what my problems are. And yeah, that's pretty much my nickname. "I saved you from getting kidnapped by the Commission, you know that you're going to die in an apocalypse, but you don't want anything to do with it, and instead you go on a date with a guy you've never met before. I didn't take you for an idiot!"
"Keep insulting me and see how much less I'll care. I can be an idiot all you want, but I know you won't need my help so I'm trying to have a normal life without anyone bothering me. So please, for the mother of all gods, eat the damn salad and go back to bed." I sound like a mother and I couldn't help but smile at that, receiving one from Five as well. "I'll eat if you come with me." He said.
"You are... Such a pain... In the ass..." I muttered slowly, trying my best not to laugh. Five began eating the food and I just watched as he did so, I didn't realize he had finished until he spoke.
"How did you come by that song?" Asked Five as I took the plate and left it in the dishwasher. I couldn't formulate words the right words, as I don't even know how or why I thought of something like that. It's funny for me because it starts and ends with coffee. I wonder... "I... I don't know... I haven't had anyone in my life as special as that someone in my song. Probably the excitement of going on a date after so long." I glanced back at Five, finding him raising an eyebrow as I sat next to him with two cups of coffee. "He knew who I was since the beginning, and instead of keeping it private, he began asking people if they wanted a photo with me. I had to pay and get out of there, didn't want to use my voice to sleep them..." I sighed softly and let my head rest on my arms. "Yeah, pretty much a shitty day... Thank you."
Five is visibly confused by this as he drank his coffee. "For what?"
"I know this is cliche, but thank you for worrying for me. Even if sometimes you can be annoying." I muttered the last part but it was loud enough for him to hear. "Don't go out with strangers and my 'annoying habits' will vanish." He stated, leaving the cup aside. "Jealous much, number five? I can't be closed in my house forever, just waiting for you to come back with a wound."
"Why do you think I want you to come with me, woman?" There was a strange silence in the kitchen, maybe a little uncomfortable for me until I decided to speak with a fast heartbeat. "So I don't die. That's it." Five clicked his tongue and rolled his eyes slightly, but he never refused to look at me like he is doing now. "You don't understand what's going on." He said all of sudden, leaving me baffled.
"I don't think I want to." My tone was noticeably nervous. I don't want to accept this, I refuse to accept that Klaus, Allison and Diego are right because it's weird. Five is an adult sure, but... "This is as weird as it is, let's just... Not."
Five teleported away just as I said that, leaving me alone in the kitchen with a full cup of coffee, and a tear falling down my cheek.

Chapter 11: The Day That Wasn’t
Tumblr media
If the rapid knocks on her bedroom door didn’t wake (Y/N), then Luther’s voice certainly did. “Hey, (Y/N). We need you downstairs for a family meeting.” And that was all he said before she heard the echo of his footsteps down the hall. With a small groan, (Y/N) pulled herself out of bed. After changing into another uniform (with Klaus’s pants, of course), she fixed her hair the best she could and made her way downstairs. Entering the parlor, she joined her siblings at the bar, where Allison was handing out coffees for everyone. Luther’s gaze made it to his “little” sister before he nodded. “Good. Now that we’re all here, it’s time to get this started. So, I’m just gonna rip the bandaid off. According to Five, the world is ending in three days.” His eyes surveyed his siblings as (Y/N) sat at a bar stool beside Luther.
“Three days?” Allison raised a brow as she handed both her sister and Luther a coffee, (Y/N) nodding in thanks.
“That’s what Five said.”
“The old bastard did mention the apocalypse, come to think of it,” Klaus spoke as he opted to sit on the floor. “He just left out the part about how soon.”
“But can we trust him? I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but Five’s a little…” Allison whistled as to mimic someone gone crazy. Klaus chuckled and grinned at her.
“Our little psycho.”
“He isn’t crazy,” (Y/N) frowned as her siblings turned to her. “He told me. It’s what he saw when he ran away and jumped through time. He was in this year, three days later, everything was gone. He’s paranoid… a-and living off of bad coffee and little-to-no sleep, trying to look for the cause of the apocalypse. So, yeah, he’s jumpy and snappy, but wouldn’t you be?”
“(Y/N)’s right,” Luther nodded. “And if Five wasn’t trying to stop an apocalypse, those two lunatics wouldn’t be chasing after him.”
“That’s why they were after him?” Diego furrowed his brows.
“Yeah.”
“You said he was in the apocalypse,” Allison looked to her sister, who simply nodded. “Well, what exactly did he see?” She was met with silence when (Y/N) took a hearty gulp of her coffee. Luther opened and closed his mouth as he tried to answer.
“Uh… Apparently, we all fought together against whoever was responsible,” He nodded. It was silent as everyone, including (Y/N), expected him to continue. But he only clicked his tongue and stood from his seat, walking past his brothers to stand in front of everyone. “Okay. So, here’s the plan. We go through Dad’s research-”
“Wait, what?”
“Hold on, hold on.”
“Wait a tick, wait a tick, wait a tick,” Klaus waved his hand. “What actually happened the first time around?”
“Yeah, what are you both not telling us?” Diego looked between Luther and (Y/N). The girl took a deep breath and tried to come up with an answer that wouldn’t send her siblings into a panic attack, but there probably was no way to prevent that. Diego raised his brows at her. “Come on, spit it out.” Her eyes moved to Luther, who decided it was his job to tell them. Lifting his coffee to his lips, he whispered under his breath and quickly took a drink.
“What was that?” Allison raised her brows. Yeah, nevermind, this was (Y/N)’s job.
“He said we died.” She spoke up. The room was filled with silence as the three slowly took it in. (Y/N) and Luther worriedly glanced at each other, the girl biting the edge of her coffee cup as she waited for some sort of reaction. The one she expected is what flooded the room. The three started firing questions at the two. Questions of who survived, what caused it, how long had the two known about this. When (Y/N) revealed that she’d known longer than Luther, Diego whirled on her.
“Just now, you’re telling us-” He didn’t get to finish when Luther cut him off.
“Hey, no, don’t yell at her about this, Diego. Five didn’t want any of us to know. We just need to calm down-”
“No, we need to figure this out.” Diego’s comment mixed in with everyone’s questions and answers that overlapped.
“Is it just us?”
“It’s everybody.”
“In the house?”
“The whole planet?”
“No, outside the house. Everyone died.”
“Hey,” They all stopped and turned at the sound of Vanya’s voice. She stood beside some brunet guy, who (Y/N) didn’t recognize. “What’s going on?”
Allison glanced at Luther before her eyes moved back to Vanya. “It’s a family matter.” She responded, (Y/N) wincing at how wrong that sounded. Vanya blinked.
“A family matter. So of course you couldn’t bother to include me.”
“No, it’s not like that. We were-” Luther’s explanation was cut off.
“Please, don’t let me interrupt.” She began out of the room as her companion followed. Allison quickly followed.
“Vanya, wait,” She called out, the woman stopping and turning towards her. “I’ll fill you in later when we’re alone.”
“Please, please, don’t bother. And I won’t either.” The siblings stiffened at her words.
“Vanya… That’s not fair.” (Y/N) shook her head. Vanya’s piercing gaze locked onto her sister.
“Fair…? There’s nothing fair about being your sister. I have been left out of everything for as long as I can remember,” Her eyes moved to her brothers. “And I used to think it was Dad’s fault, but he’s dead. So it turns out you’re the assholes.” Her voice shook before she stormed out of the room. The man wordlessly glared at Allison, then (Y/N). The two gave him suspicious glares right back as he left after Vanya. From behind them, Klaus let out a quiet “ouch”. (Y/N) sighed and walked over to the bar, setting her cup down. Allison turned to her family.
“I’m gonna go find Vanya and explain.” She hurried towards the doorway, but Luther called out,
“No, wait, there isn’t time. We need to figure out what causes the apocalypse,” He decided to continue once she was turned back to him. Her defeated expression met (Y/N) when they heard the front door shut closed. “Now, there are loads of possibilities. Nuclear war, asteroids. But I’m thinking this is about the moon, right? Dad must’ve sent me up there for a reason. And I was giving him daily updates on the conditions, I sent field samples,” The team began to tune him out as he went on about the moon. “So, the first thing we need to do is find his research.”
“Hold on. Hold the phone,” Klaus stopped his talking. “We all died fighting this thing the first time around. Remember?”
“Klaus, shockingly, has a point,” Diego spoke, twirling his knife with the hand that wasn’t being nursed in a sling. “What gives us a win this time?”
“Five does,” (Y/N) leaned in. “We didn’t have him and that’s why we died. He might not have all the answers, but he knows more than we do. We can stop this if we’re all together.”
“Then where is he?” Allison walked closer as Klaus gagged and groaned his way to a cushioned seat by the bar. (Y/N)’s eyes stayed trained on him as she answered,
“He had a plan and… I guess it’s going a little differently than he wanted it to. But he’ll be back soon…” She seemed to be trying to convince herself more than her siblings, but she remembered the note that was once again in her pocket. Diego walked from behind the bar to leave the room.
“I’m going after Hazel and Cha-Cha.”
“What, right now?” Luther turned to him.
“Hell, yeah. Three days, and I’m losing light by the minute.
“Wait, Diego. Look, I know you wanna avenge your friend, but we got a bigger problem here-”
“She wasn’t just some friend, Luther! If I’m gonna die, I need to know I killed those bastards first. It’s not about Dad. It’s not about me. The longer I wait, Hazel…,” He trailed off. (Y/N) watched Klaus as he held his stomach and stood. “Stop making it about you.” Diego hissed and stomped out of the room, Klaus right behind him.
“Klaus? Klaus? Klaus!”
“Yeah! Sorry.” He loosely turned his body back to Luther.
“So, what? You’re giving up on the world, too?”
“Yeah, pretty much. Yeah. Mmhm.” He seemed as if he was going to hurl right there if he didn’t leave. (Y/N) watched as the rest of the team left, Allison explaining that she needed to be with Claire for the end of the world. She turned to her sister and kissed her cheek before walking out of the room. (Y/N) wondered if she should spend these last few days with her little family, but she knew there was still plenty of time for Five to come back with answers. Yeah… He’ll come back… He’s fine.
Her head tilted up to Luther, who stared in disbelief. “Can you believe this?”
“I really can,” She began to leave the room. “I really, really can…”
“What, you’re going, too? Come on, (Y/N), Five trusted you the most with this information! He’d want you to be in on this, too!”
“Look at us, Luther!” She raised her voice as she turned to him. “What are you and I gonna do?! We need the team, we need Five! A-And where the hell even is he?! If the five of us couldn’t work together to stop this, what makes you think we will?!”
“So, you’re giving up…”
“I’m not giving up, Luther. I’m waiting for Five. Because we’re all so fucking clueless without him.” And with that, she walked out of the parlor, and then the mansion. After climbing into her car, she gently rested her head against the steering wheel, taking a well-needed deep breath. “Shit, Five, I’m fucking counting on you.” She muttered as she started up her car and drove off. Arriving at her house, she climbed out of her car and headed to the front door, feet landing on the smooth fabric of her welcome mat. It was smudged with mud from the kids’ shoes the last time they were home. She smiled down at the ground as she reached into her pocket for her keys, her hands shaking as she unlocked and opened the front door.
Not wasting a moment, she sped to her bedroom and crouched down in front of her dresser, digging through her adult clothes in search of her cigarettes. She promised Anthony that she’d stop smoking and for a while, she did. But Anthony couldn’t have foreseen the stressful situation she’d find herself in years after that promise was made. She sighed out in relief when she found the box, shakily taking out one of the sticks and slipping it between her trembling lips. She then began searching for a lighter, but it was nowhere near. She searched her bathroom, the kids’ bathroom, and the kitchen. Her breathing getting heavy, she returned to her bedroom as she began digging through her pockets, throwing items on the bed. The cigarette fell from her mouth when she realized she threw Five’s note out of her pocket. Her wide eyes couldn’t stray away as her twitching fingers reached for it.
-------------------------------------------------
(Y/N) handed Five a piece of paper and a pencil as she guided the boy to his bedroom. He groaned when they reached his door. “You’re really making me do this?”
“Come on, we’ll read them and laugh when we’re older,” (Y/N) pouted. “It won’t hurt you.”
“I just don’t see the purpose of this. Who cares what our past selves wanted us to do? Our minds constantly change.”
“Exactly! Our minds are always changing, we’re always switching paths and desires and wants. But normal kids actually have paths to choose from. We don’t have any choice in what we want to do right now,” Her voice got softer as Five considered her words. “I just… I want to be proud of what we do with our lives after we leave here… I want to look back at this and tell her that she’ll be fine. That she’ll be better than who she is right now…”
“Starlight,” Five slightly smiled and reached his free hand out, placing it against her cheek. “Even a fifteen year difference can’t change how brilliant you already are…”
“Awe, Five…”
“I’ll do it. But only for you,” He dropped his arm. “Will we ever read each other’s?”
“Um… they’re kinda personal, so I don’t think we’d want anyone reading these.”
“Well, I know that if I died or something, I’d want you to read it.” He raised his dark brows, the girl’s breath hitching at the mention of his death. She slowly nodded.
“Yeah… I guess I’d want that, too… If I died… But I’d also want you to read it if,” She felt the rapid beat of her heart and the rising heat of her cheeks as she took a step closer. “If we got married in the future.”
Five’s mouth fell open and quirked up a bit at the edges as he nodded. “W-Well… I’d love that… I-I’d love for you to read it… if we got married. Yes, of course,” He nervously chuckled. “It’d only make sense.”
“Yeah, yeah.” A twitching smile crept onto her face as the two fell into an awkward silence. She began mentally kicking herself for that stupid, stupid insinuation. She’d love to just talk to Five without becoming a flustered mess, for once. It was so much easier when they were nine-years-old. Five cleared his throat, gaining her attention.
“So, I’m gonna… go write the note.” He opened his door, (Y/N) nodding and stepping back.
“Of course! I’ll go do that, too… M-My note. In my room,” She smiled wider. Five’s gentle expression helped her to relax a bit. After he closed his door, she dropped her shoulders and rushed to her room. She closed her door and flopped onto her bed. “Stupid, stupid, stupid…” She lightly hit herself in the head, but couldn’t help the lovestruck smile that graced her features.
-------------------------------------------------
“Please, please, don’t be dead…” (Y/N) quietly sobbed as she held the note to her chest. She knew there was a chance that Five was just being paranoid and gave her the note out of fear. But that horrible thought of him ripped from her again, only this time being permanent, sent her knees buckling and down to the floor beside her bed. “Please, don’t be dead…” She whispered as she opened the note. This is what he wanted.
“Dear Five…”

The Rewatch Academy: Episode 4 of Season 1
Tumblr media
“Man on the Moon”
I am in no way a good analyst so my little analysis and speculations probably sound a bit goofy or pretty wild and probably mean nothing at all. Everything I put into this post about each episode is purely what I noticed or thought, whether it’s funny or serious. I will be making jokes, so please just leave it at that (in no way am I trying to make fun of an actor and or character!) I am also in no way saying I noticed this stuff first. This is just what I noticed while rewatching these episodes

Tumblr media
☂ So at that point Luther had already been alone for about five years (due to his siblings leaving when they were 18 or even 17 according to Diego), and by alone I mean he did’t have his siblings with him. I’m not counting Reginald, Grace, or Pogo because I’d imagine they weren’t the best company. There was a two year gap between Luther getting the serum and then being sent to the moon. He had already been “alone” for five years before he was sent away to be completely alone for four years. He hasn’t had really any social/outside interaction besides going on missions for almost ten years, which means Luther is an awkward dude and he hasn’t been a true leader because he hasn’t had anyone to lead. I don’t think people really realize this and I think that’s where some of the hate towards him comes from
☂ We see that Luther looks into Allison’s and Klaus’s bedrooms as he makes his way down the hall, and I’m willing to bet he did that for all of his siblings. Makes me wonder how many times the siblings went to Five’s room to visit it or to even check with hope that he had come back
☂ I wish I could ride my bike around my house and chug a gallon of milk :[
☂ I can’t believe that Reginald still made him wear that leather battle suit 💀
☂ Why are there posters of animal anatomy in the infirmary?
☂ Apparently it takes between two to four months to grow a full beard, so that’s  about how long Luther had been lying there
☂ *suffers through the Allison and Luther scene*
☂ “HoPe I wAsN’t BeInG tOo LoUd”
☂ Vanya and Leonard were really sweet in the beginning. Screw you Leonard
☂ It’s really sad that not one his siblings notice that Klaus is gone. Not. One.
☂ Are you telling me that Klaus and Five are certified freaks? At least I’m sure that’s who Cha Cha is referring to, or maybe it’s Luther
☂ I tried looking up tortures in Trinidad to see if Cha Cha was referring to any specific event, but I think it’s just a random thing in the show
☂ It’s only when Diego mutters “The boy” that it reminds him either of Five’s superhero name “The Boy” or his new appearance as a teen again so it finally clicks in his head that that’s who the mystery kid is
☂ Diego admitting that he doesn’t really know how to process his feelings!
☂ He’s very protective of his family and that’s something that I love about Diego. He doesn’t know who Hazel and Cha Cha are but all he knows is that they are searching for Five for some reason and that his siblings almost got killed last night
☂ Five doesn't realize the suffering that he’s putting his family through at this point since he’s only focused on finding who’s responsible for the end of the world. It’s ironic that he’s doing all of this to keep them alive and safe and yet him not being with them almost got them killed. Five buddy, you should have included all of your siblings from the start no matter how much they annoy you
☂ Also where has Five been this entire time? He left the van at night and now it’s the next morning. He’s been following the guy but why did it take him so long to corner him?
☂ Ope, and there’s a continuation error! When Luther takes his arm out of Five’s dresser, he takes part of the wood panel with him. When it cuts back to Diego talking there’s just a fist size hole
☂ “We barely got out with our lives.” Okay but where were you, Pogo?
☂ It’s funny how quickly they revert to child-like shame when Pogo scolds them. At least they still respect him I guess
☂ Is Hazel eating potato chips with ketchup?
☂ I think one reason why nobody notices that Klaus is gone is because none of them saw him that night during the attack. They possibly assumed he already had left the Academy??
☂ Looooove the “Shingaling” scene. They are straight up vibing
☂ I don’t know why Luther was frustrated with the van door being locked. It’s not like he could rip the door off or anything.......
☂ I have a two questions here:
Why did Diego know where to find Five based off of the book? Sure he saw that it came from the library, but that doesn’t mean that he’ll be there
Wouldn’t Luther and Diego have seen the smoke coming from the Meritech building? Unless they left immediately and weren’t able to see the smoke even though they probably were still in the vicinity when it began to burn
☂ Five is holding the man’s arm to make sure that he doesn’t get away (hard to tell in the pic below though). He needs that sense of security that this lead isn’t going to escape his grasp, but I’m sure that if he were to run he wouldn’t get far when you can just teleport after him
Tumblr media
☂ I got a nice pic of Five (also the dude on the bike that was riding behind Five as he runs up in this shot just does not care that this building is on fire)
Tumblr media
☂ When it shows Five on the ground, it at first starts off with light and slightly comedic music before it quickly switches over to something dramatic. I always thought it was funny that they play the light stuff as we see Five just laying there 💀
☂ You can see just how quickly Five’s face changes from shock to disbelief and disappointment as his only lead is literally blown away from him look, you can pinpoint the exact moment his heart breaks. Also Five definitely would have had hearing issues since we can see that the windows on the building behind him were shattered. He’s staring into your soul....
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
☂ There’s nothing really significant about this at all, but Whippets are racing dogs and in the comics Five goes to watch a dog race at one point
Tumblr media
☂ “I hate sprinkles.” Hey, me too!
☂ I love that Griddy’s is still open despite the damage that was done to it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
☂ Diego left home at 17 (which is illegal so I wonder if he was emancipated or maybe Diego ran away and Reginald didn’t care to look for him) so I wonder if the others left when they were 17 too or if they waited until they were 18
☂ Luther I don’t really think you’re one to talk about being “grown up” my guy. In fairness none of the Umbrellas know how to be fully functioning adults, not even Five who’s about twice the age of his siblings and is almost a senior citizen
☂ “I stayed because the world needed me.” Hey that was basically Five’s reason too, but more so for getting to see his family again. Anyways, like brother, like, uh, brother!
☂ "And things are never gonna go back to the way they used to be.” You sir just predicted the next week(s) (and technically years in the 60s) of your life and the lives of your siblings! This also applies for what happens after those weeks/years, but we haven’t gotten there yet but it’s certainly not the way things used to be!
☂ How was Luther upset enough that he wanted Diego to stop talking after he said something genuine and a bit sad?
☂ This whole relationship talk isn’t exactly relatable......
Tumblr media
☂ He’s just chillin’
Tumblr media
☂ Reginald can ✨perish✨ Oh wait, he already did
☂ Here I am taking any little scrap and running with it, but when Five says he’s going through puberty twice does that mean that he didn’t get his aging altered by The Commission? In the comics, Temps Aeternalis/Commission stopped Five’s aging but here it sounds like that didn’t happen. Since we haven’t heard anything about Five’s DNA in the tv show we don’t really know much about his aging alteration either. I think that they really do have to leave that part out due to Aidan himself, who is a growing teen, and for the fact that they would need to come up with an excuse for Five’s aging (Aidan already looks different in S2 and he’s taller too). I wish they would bring this stuff up in the show!
☂ Five deflects answering the question of what he’s the best at most likely just because he’s just distracted but also possibly because he doesn’t want his brothers to know at this point
☂ First the feral chimp smile and now this
Tumblr media
☂ Five actually sounded serious when he was talking about how many people he has killed and how he’s the ”Four frickin’ Horsemen” which is more so an exaggeration but it still shows us that he views himself as dangerous and powerful. He revealed this to them while he was drunk, even though they don’t really understand, but I wonder if Five ever actually planned on telling his siblings what he did and how much blood he has on his hands. I feel like he would have told them after he had saved the world from the apocalypse, but yet again I could also see him brushing off questions in relation to what he just said to Luther and Diego to hide his past from his family
☂ ✨”Little Psycho”✨
☂ As eerie as all of those ghosts are, it’s a really neat scene
☂ It’s not really meant to be funny, but Klaus denying the duct tape just reminds me of a little kid refusing to go into timeout
☂ I guess Cha Cha got out through the door next to the bathroom when Klaus was banging his head on the table?
☂ It’s a shame that Patch died right away, I really liked her
☂ Klaus, where you’re going really isn’t any better
☂ It’s sweet that Diego puts Delores down gently and doesn’t just toss her somewhere. Even though she’s a mannequin, Diego knows that she means something to Five
☂ Well Luther I think it’s pretty self-explanatory what he meant. You just need more context
☂ Diego: *signaling that someone, possibly a threat, is approaching and to be alert*
Luther: 🕴👁`👄’👁
☂ Even if they did think that Klaus had left the Academy before Hazel and Cha Cha attacked it, it’s sad that it took them this long to think about him
☂ Luther patting Delores is so cute
☂ Say it with me kids, “Patch deserved so much better!”
☂ My heart breaks to see Diego so heartbroken and upset, especially when he says “I gotta go, okay? I can’t be here when they come, okay?” Ugh, that gets me
☂☂☂☂☂☂☂

"Three days?"
Luther took the cup of coffee that Allison offered him. "Well, that's what they said," he told her. "Or, Five, I guess."
"The old bastard did mention the apocalypse, come to think of it," Klaus said. "He just left out the part about how soon."
"But can we trust him?" Allison asked. "I don't know if you've noticed, but Five's a little-" she stopped to whistle, pointing to her head.
Klaus chuckled. "Our little psycho."
"And what about his friend?" Allison asked. "Did she say anything about it?"
"She was kind of busy chasing after Diego," Luther told her, glancing at his brother. "But, he was pretty convincing. If they weren't trying to stop an apocalypse, those two lunatics wouldn't be chasing after them."
"That's why they were after them?" Diego asked.
"Yeah." Diego sat back in his seat, jaw clenched at the idea that they were after YN, who probably only had Five to defend her.
"What did they even see?" Allison asked.
Luther looked at her, mouth open, and uncertain of what to say.
"Uh, apparently, we all fought together against whoever was responsible," Luther explained.
It was silent as they looked to him for further explanation.
He clicked his tongue and stood. "OK, so, here's the plan," he started.
Before he could say more, the three were objecting. He looked back at them.
"What actually happened the first time around?"
"Yeah," Diego agreed. "What are you not telling us? Come on, big boy, spit it out."
No one spoke as Luther nervously looked to all of them, then down at his cup. He hesitated, bringing the cup up.
"We died." It was impossible for the siblings to hear.
"What was that?" Allison asked, leaning forward.
Luther coughed. "I said, uh," he stuttered, "we died."

YN climbed through the rubble and snow, trying to get back to the grocery store as soon as possible.
Her body was much more used to the cold than the average person, her powers helping considerably.
The woman was more worried about Five, however, who didn't have the same resistance to the cold.
She had left him alone for the majority of the day in hopes of finding more food before the weather got even worse.
But while she was out, the snow kicked up. She was stuck navigating her way back through a snowstorm, worrying about how Five was doing at the same time.
YN's vision was limited through the falling snow, but she could faintly see the familiar sight of the store.
The building was just a temporary settling place until the weather evened out. It was also more intact than its surrounding buildings, making it the best choice.
YN pushed on, determined to make it back, and confirm that the idiot hadn't managed to freeze himself to death.
She pushed through the door, immediately dumping her bag and heaving a breath.
The room was much warmer than outside, the only reminder of the cold being the shrill shriek of wind heard through the walls.
"Jesus, I didn't think you were going to make it back alive." YN looked over at Five, who looked relieved yet worried.
He was by her in an instant as she wiped off as much snow from her clothes as she could.
"Are you alright?" he asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine," she assured him. "I was more worried about you."
"What? Why? I'm not the one who was out in the storm."
"You're also not the one that can stand the cold," YN countered. "I had half a mind to think that I would find you freezing to death."
Five tugged her over to a fire that burned and sat her close to it.
"I'm not completely defenseless against the elements," he muttered.
"Your dad teach you guys how to make fires in apocalyptic scenarios?" she teased.
Five rolled his eyes and sat next to her.
"I'm just kidding," she laughed, pressing a kiss to his cheek before leaning her head on his shoulder.
"Have I ever told you how hilarious you are?" His words were drowned in sarcasm.
"Oh, thank you very much, sir."
Tumblr media
"I must admit, in all the time I've been here, I've never met anyone quite like the pair of you," the Handler spoke as she led Five and YN down a stone path to a roundabout.
People greeted the woman as they passed.
"Hazel and Cha Cha, for example, are talented, certainly," she said, "but they can't see the big picture."
YN zoned out as she droned out, taking in the familiar scenery with dread in her gut.
This was the last place she wanted to be, especially with all that had been going on.
They followed her into the busy building, a man taking the Handler's coat.
"I'd like to discuss the logistics of my family's safety at your earliest convenience," Five told her. "As well as this body replacement."
The three of them climbed the stairs as they spoke.
"Such chutzpah," the Handler laughed. YN gave her an odd look at the word. "It's refreshing, I'll admit. Slow down, Five, all in good time. In fact, now that you've finally agreed to work with us, we've got all the time in the world."
YN leaned in close to Five. "Are you sure this is a good idea?"
"No, but we don't have a choice, really."
They followed after the Handler as she rambled, leading them up to a specific floor.
"All the people on this floor are case managers, each one responsible for one major event at a time," she explained, leading them down a hall and turning to the first room.
Inside was a long line of desks that seemed to stretch beyond natural possibility.
YN's eyes widened at the sight of it all. "Holy shit."
"So many of them."
"Impressive, isn't it?" the Handler asked. "Being a part of something...so grand."
The clicking from all of the typewriters made YN nauseous.
"Come along." The Handler continued a step ahead of them.
"Whenever someone chooses the wrong path, and the timeline is changed, the Commission gets a report from field agents on the ground," she explained. "These field reports are sorted and assigned to a case manager. They determine if anyone needs to be removed from the equation to assure that their event happens as it should."
She led them to another room, lined with pipes. A woman stood inside, doing her job.
"Based on that determination, the case manager sends instructions via pneumatic tube to temporal assassins like the two of you formally were. Any queries so far?"
She looked at the two.
"Yeah," Five said. "Who was the case manager handling us?"
"Ah, you mean the apocalypse!"
They were led back to the case managers and down the line to a woman.
"Five, YN, meet Dot." The woman looked at them with a bright smile, which YN couldn't help but return. "Dot is responsible for all apocalypse matters. In fact, it was Dot here who first flagged your appearance in 2019."
"No hard feelings," Dot said.
"Well, you pair certainly put us through the wringer," the Handler smiled. "Outsmarting two of our so-called best temporal assassins. If that doesn't spell leadership material-" the woman paused as her voice picked up, bringing everyone around to a stop, "-I just don't know."
Everyone resumed their work as the Handler showed them to their new desks that happened to be placed inconveniently far from each other.
The two settled in their respective seats, having no choice but to work.

When you didn’t respond to Luther’s rather brusque wake up call he grasped the doorknob, sticking his head into the room.  “Now,” he called impatiently.
Groaning, you extricated your hand from the mess of bedding to flip him the bird.
“Don’t make me come in there and pull the blankets off your bed [Y/N],” Luther grumbled.
“You try it and I’ll set you on fire,” you threatened.
“Alright, alright,” he relented, holding up his hands in surrender.  “Just, hurry up, okay?”
Sighing as he moved down the hall to wake Klaus, you sank back down into your pillows, attempting to force the images of your nightmare out of your head.  You’d dreamed of Klaus, fighting in a war, battered and bloody, surrounded by ghosts.  But every time you reached for him he’d walked past you, clinging to another, a man whose face you couldn’t quite make out.
“[Y/N], I don’t hear you up yet!”  Luther’s voice echoed down the hall and you practically growled as you sat up, ripping the blankets aside.
“I’m fucking up, Luther!  Jesus!”
As you dressed and shuffled toward the bathroom you caught the tail end of Luther and Klaus’s conversation.
“Yeah, sounds like a real rager, but my schedule’s chock full,” Klaus sighed wearily, sounding as exhausted as you felt.
“Yeah, no time for that,” Luther interrupted dryly, “world’s ending in like, three days.”
As soon as Luther strode away Klaus stood, freezing when he caught sight of you.  “So, uh, family meeting, I guess,” he muttered, “you coming?” he asked hesitantly.
After the events of yesterday and the bombshell he’d dropped on you you had barely said a word to him, even when he’d knocked on your door late last night, hoping to talk.
“Yeah, just gotta, uh,” you motioned toward the bathroom behind him and he gave a small start.
“Oh, right.  Sorry.  Guess I’ll see you downstairs..."
———
“Three days?” Allison exclaimed as you all gathered in the sitting room once more.
Deja vu, you thought grimly, settling on the couch next to Diego, his arm in a sling.  How many more 'family meetings' were you going to have to endure?
“Yeah, that’s what Five said,” Luther insisted with a sigh.
“The old bastard did mention something about the apocalypse,” Klaus mused from the floor and you grudgingly let your gaze flick to him, though every time you looked at him your stomach knotted.  “He just failed to mention how soon.”
“No he didn’t,” you scoffed without thinking, drawing everyone’s eyes to you and flinching when you caught Klaus’s, quickly looking away.  “At the time he said seven days, and we’ve wasted four of them,” you spat, crossing your arms over your chest.
“That’s if we can even trust him,” Allison cut in and the look you threw her was disbelieving.  “I mean, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but Five’s a little --” she whistled, miming the sign for “crazy”.
“Our little psycho,” Klaus muttered and you wanted to scream.  Did no one but you believe him?
“Well, he was pretty convincing,” Luther cut in, taking you by surprise.  You could barely believe it, but for once you and Luther actually agreed on something.  “I mean, if he weren’t trying to stop the apocalypse then those lunatics wouldn’t be chasing him.”
“That’s why they’re after him?” Diego asked, his brows furrowed.
“What did Five even see in the future?” Allison cut in and Luther looked supremely uncomfortable, definitely avoiding your gaze and you frowned.
“Well… apparently, we were all working together… to stop it,” he answered disjointedly, as if he were trying to avoid lying outright, but not including the entire truth either, his eyes shifting anxiously.
“Yeah, that was the jist of it,” you deadpanned, giving him a level look; sarcasm radiating off you in waves.
The obvious panicked expression he wore at your words quickly disappeared as he stood and began to cross the room, avoiding the others’ confused stares.  “Okay.  So, here’s the plan.  I think we should go through Dad’s research --”
“Wait, what?” Allison exclaimed on the heels of everyone talking over each other, telling him to hold up.
“What actually happened the first time around?” Klaus asked, looking from Luther to you, since it was obvious you knew the whole story as well.
“Yeah, what are you not telling us?” Diego insisted, leaning forward.  Luther stilled, glancing around at each of them in turn, resignation settling in.  “Spit it out big boy, or I’m sure [Y/N] will.”
Looking down at his coffee cup, he sighed.  “We died,” he muttered, quickly bringing the cup to his lips.
“What was that?” Allison demanded, her eyes going wide.
“He said, we died,” you answered, your eyes flicking to Luther.
Silence filled the room and everyone gaped at each other, moments before they all began talking over each other, asking you and Luther questions.
Shaking your head you leaned back against the couch and closed your eyes.  You were too exhausted and bitter to be doing this right now.  Where was Five? you wondered angrily.  He’d disappeared during the middle of the shootout yesterday and he still wasn’t back.  A sinking feeling in your stomach told you it would be nearly useless without him here.
Soon however the others had talked you into coming to the bar where breakfast was laid out and you suffered through their endless arguing as they continued to ply you and Luther with questions about what Five had told you about the apocalypse.
“Hey.”  Vanya’s soft voice cut through the chatter and everyone cut off, turning to look at her and the stranger trailing behind her.  “What’s going on?” she asked, taking a hesitant step forward.
“...It’s a family matter,” Allison spoke up reluctantly when no one else seemed to want to.
“A family matter?” Vanya scoffed.  “So, you couldn’t bother to include me.”  The man at her side gave you all a disappointed look that made you bristle.  Who the fuck was this guy?
“No, it’s not like that,” Luther exclaimed quickly, “We were --”
Vanya merely shook her head before turning to stalk off, Allison hurrying after her.  “Vanya wait!  I’ll fill you in later, when you’re alone,” she said pointedly, lowering her voice, her eyes darting to the stranger, hovering nearby.
“Please don’t bother,” Vanya cut in, her voice sad, but sharp.  “And I won’t either.”
Allison’s face fell.  “Vanya, that’s not fair.”
“Fair?” Vanya scoffed.  “I have been left out of everything for as long as I can remember.  And I used to think it was Dad’s fault, but he’s dead.  So it turns out you’re the assholes.”
You looked down at the bar, a heavy silence filling the room and you could feel the uncomfortable tension in the others as well, all studiously avoiding Vanya’s fiery glare.
“Ouch,” Klaus muttered and you glanced up in time to see Vanya walk out, the man with her giving you all one last disappointed look.  Strangely at the last minute you could have sworn his frown turned rather smug, but he was gone before you could get a better look.  Allison seemed rooted in place, the rebuke hitting her the hardest.
“Guys, I’m going after Vanya, I need to explain --”
“No, there isn’t time,” Luther insisted, pulling Allison up short.  “We still have to figure out what causes the apocalypse.  I mean, there are loads of possibilities…”
You sighed, pulling the bottle of vodka from behind the bar to surreptitiously add to your glass of orange juice as Diego rolled his eyes and Klaus rested his face in his hand, leaning wearily against the bar, his eyes darting to you when he thought you weren’t paying attention.  As you brought the glass to your lips, his eyes followed longingly and you briefly wondered if he was staring at your lips or merely wanting a stiff drink as well.
“I’m thinking this has to be about the Moon, right?” Luther continued, Allison looking at him like he’d lost his mind.  “Dad had to have sent me up there for a reason.  I mean, I was giving him daily updates on the conditions, I sent samples.  So the first thing we need to do is find his research.”
“Hold on.  Hold the phone,” Klaus spoke up, interrupting Luther.  “We all died fighting this thing the first time around, remember?”
“Klaus, shockingly, has a point,” Diego added with a shrug, “What gives us a win this time?”
“Five,” Luther answered simply.  “Last time we didn’t have him.  This time we’ll have the full force of the Umbrella Academy.  That’s what we need.”
“Except Five isn’t here,” you muttered, downing the rest of your glass.
“I’m going after Hazel and Cha-Cha,” Diego announced over Luther as he tried explaining Five’s absence.  “If I’m gunna die, I need to know I killed those bastards first.”
Shaking your head as Diego left, you poured yourself another glass, this time with no juice and tilted it back.  Everything was crumbling around you.
Klaus stood from where he’d been sitting and looked to you, hesitating, as if he wanted to say something.  When you merely focused on the bottle in front of you, not meeting his gaze, he set his shoulders and turned, walking away without a word.
“Klaus?  Klaus!”  Luther called until he turned dramatically, throwing his arms in the air.
“Yeah, sorry!”
“You giving up on the world too?”
Feeling his eyes on you again you squeezed yours shut, trying to fight down the wave of fear and self loathing that was threatening to pull you out to sea.  “Yeah, pretty much, mmhmm,” he answered as if at a loss for words.
“So, that’s it?  You’re cool with us all dying in three days?”
You couldn’t bring yourself to look at him.  So instead you emptied your glass for the third time, past caring that you were drunk and it wasn’t even nine am.
Without another word Klaus turned and left, following Diego, leaving Luther staring helplessly after him.  “I can’t believe it.  It’s just us…” he muttered, turning to look at you and Allison, who tensed, rising from the bar stool.  You could see the conflicted look on her face as she slowly turned toward him.  “Oh please, not you too,” he begged, seeing the same look in her eyes that you had and knowing exactly what it meant.
“I need to book a flight back to L.A.  If this happens, I have to be with my daughter.  And you said it yourself, we need the full force of the Academy to even stand a chance.  I’m sorry Luther.”
You watched Allison leave too.  There was no hope.  No one else seemed to care, so why should you?  It wasn’t like you could have what you wanted anyway.  So what was the point?
Luther finally turned to look at you, one last shred of hope in his eyes before you shook your head sadly.  “We’re fucked,” you said simply.  He watched you walk out, his shoulders slumping in defeat.
Some leader.
———
Ambling around the mansion after Luther’s disastrous attempt at rallying the Academy, the nearly empty bottle of vodka in your hand, you were unsure exactly what you were looking for, if anything, when you heard Klaus and Diego’s voices.  Stopping outside the door you frowned, listening.
“That’s it, tighter.”
“If I see a boner, I’m out.”
What the fuck?   Peaking around the door frame you quickly pulled back.
“End of the world and you wanna get sober all of a sudden?”  Diego asked slowly as he continued to wind the rope around Klaus’s shoulders.  “Don’t get me wrong, man, good by you.  I just would have thought you’d wanna pop every pill on the planet at a time like this.”
“Oh, the thought did cross my mind,” Klaus sighed, “but, there’s something I need to do.  Someone I need to see.”
Closing your eyes, you swallowed, suddenly feeling sick and wishing you hadn’t just had a breakfast primarily consisting of booze, though you knew that wasn’t the reason you felt like you were going to throw up.
“Is this about conjuring Dave?” Diego asked hesitantly.
You wanted to leave, but couldn’t seem to make yourself move; numb as you listened to Klaus tell Deigo about his time spent in Vietnam.  His time spent with Dave.
“Well look at us, loggin’ in some quality bro time before the end of the world.”
“Yeah, might as well,” Diego muttered.
A thought had wormed its way into your mind as you’d been standing there and even though it was probably the worst idea you’d ever had in your life, you’d already decided and turning on your heel you stalked away with a purpose, the rest of Klaus and Diego’s conversation falling away behind you.
“Everyone I like is already dead, with the exception of [Y/N],” Diego continued, putting the finishing touches on the knot securing the ropes around Klaus, who flinched at the name.  “You know, maybe after you talk to Dave, you should talk to her.”
Klaus snorted.  “You think I don’t want to talk to her?  I’ve been dying to since I got back, but I think she’s made it clear I’m the last person she wants to talk to right now.”
“You hurt her, bro,” Diego pointed out gently.
“I know,” Klaus replied.  Diego had expected him to get defensive, but he only sounded defeated.  “I know,” he sighed, hanging his head,  “I don’t regret meeting Dave… I just regret that it led to hurting [Y/N].”  He sighed again, shaking his head.
Diego clapped him on the back before moving to leave the room, stopping in his tracks as Klaus whined suddenly.
“What?” Diego asked, turning around.
“I need to pee.”
———
Leaving the academy you didn’t have to go far to find Klaus’s usual dealer, hanging out in a seedy back alley a couple blocks away.  It shouldn’t have been that surprising to you, but buying drugs really wasn’t that difficult after all.  All you’d had to do was say you knew Klaus and flash a little money and the man was happy to oblige.
Around the corner you emptied the two brightly coloured pills into your palm, staring at them.  Taking a deep breath to still your nerves you quickly threw the pills back, swallowing before you had the chance to chicken out.  For a moment panic seized you and you doubled over, gagging, nearly forcing the pills back up, but stubbornly you straightened, leaning back against the wall and closing your eyes, waiting, wondering how long it would take for the effects to kick in.
Apparently, not that long.
It was as if someone had flipped a switch inside you, turning your senses up to one hundred -- colours were brighter, everything was sharper, and you were floating.  You just had to get used to the swimming sensation in your head which made walking a little difficult, but damn did you suddenly feel good.  It was as if your worries had been muted and even the idea of the apocalypse was a distant memory.
Buoyed, you walked, well more like skipped back to the academy, nearly tripping up the steps.  By the time you returned to the room Diego had tied Klaus up in, you were practically giddy.  “Ooooh, kinky,” you exclaimed, studying Klaus from the doorway with a smirk, “shoulda asked me to help, you know I’m good with rope,” you pouted, swaying slightly as you approached.
“[Y/N]?” Klaus asked, his expression brightening at the sight of you before his brows furrowed in confusion.
“Klaus,” you replied, tilting your head.
He looked awful.  A pang of guilt spiked through you before getting swallowed up again.
“Not to sound rude or anything,” Klaus said, watching you warily, “but, uhm, how much have you drank this morning [Y/N]?”
“Ohhh, I finished that bottle off with breakfast,” you mused, circling him.
Klaus’s frown deepened.  “Uh, huh… y’know I’ve seen you drunk more times than I can count, this is different…”
You nodded, a large grin spreading across your face.  “You’re right, this is different.  I can see why it's so addicting.”
Suddenly realization dawned on his face and Klaus’s eyes widened.  “[Y/N], are you… high?” he asked, gaping at you in disbelief.
“Bingo, give the man a prize,” you giggled.
“How?  Where did you even --?” he asked, one question on top of the other.
“I know where your favourite dealer hangs out, Klaus,” you pointed out and he groaned.
“What did you take?”
You half wondered if he was going to ask if you had any left, but he didn’t.  You shrugged.  “I dunno, I just asked him for your usual.”
Alarm flashed across Klaus’s face and he began to struggle uselessly in his bonds, attempting to scoot his chair closer.  “You know I’m not usually one to judge, [Y/N], but what were you thinking?  Who are you and what have you done with the [Y/N] I know?” he asked, his tone bordering on incredulous.
“Wanted to see what it’s like to be Klaus for a day.”  You shrugged again.  “Being a bit of a hypocrite, aren’t we?”
“[Y/N], this-this isn’t you,” he insisted, the quiver in his voice making you hesitate.
“You heard Luther, the world is ending in three days, so why not?” you asked, barking a bitter laugh.  “You always talk about how good it feels, and I need to feel good right now,” you argued, slipping your arms around yourself, wishing they were his.  You could tell he had no reply to that and he hung his head.
“B-besides,” you continued, “I figured it’d be better this way.  I don’t want to get in the way of you seeing Dave.”
Klaus’s head snapped up, the unspoken question plain on his face.
“I overheard you and Diego.  The only reason you wanna get sober now is to see... him.”  The venom in your voice was sharp and Klaus flinched.
“That’s not… entirely true,” he insisted weakly.
“No, it’s fine.  I get it,” you replied hollowly.  “It’s whatever, you gave up on saving the world too.”
“[Y/N]...” Klaus whined, “that’s not fair.”
His words brought you up short.  “Yeah, well, y’know what else isn’t fair?”  Pausing, you forced yourself to glance back at him from the door.  “Giving your all to someone and then realizing they didn’t actually want you like you want them…”
“[Y/N], that’s not --!”
You quickly turned your face away, swiping at the stray tear that had escaped down your cheek before walking away.
“[Y/N] wait!”  Klaus bellowed after you, desperation lacing his words.  “Come back!  Please!  [Y/N] listen to me! [Y/N] --!”
You knew you’d been cruel, but as you stumbled down the stairs, pursued by Klaus’s cries and the sound of his chair scraping and thudding across the floor, numbness embraced you and you knew the drugs were doing their job -- it didn’t hurt nearly as much as it should have.
You didn’t know where you were headed as you once again left the academy and scooted behind the wheel of Reginald’s old car.  Again, not the best of ideas, but you’d made it this far already and your high had made you more reckless than usual, past caring what might happen to you.
The first stop you made was to a club you'd never been to.  It wasn't exactly your scene, but why not?  There wasn't much time left, so might as well give it a try. The pounding driving house music was nearly deafening as you slipped through the door and out into the press of bodies on the floor.  The music pulsed through you and as you danced, not particularly well in your inebriated state, but it felt good to move and grind against the strangers around you.  Turning you found the first person nearby and slung your arms over her shoulders, pulling yourself closer, needing to be held.  She smiled at you before she kissed you and you felt your body react subconsciously.  When she pulled back her green eyes made you stumble, thinking of another pair of green eyes and you pulled away, holding your head.  Dizzy, and suddenly overwhelmed by memories you stumbled from the floor.
Before you knew it you were back outside, your head killing you.  The first convenience store you saw you ducked inside, eyeing the attendant at the counter warily.  As he was helping another customer you shoved a couple snacks and a tallboy of beer into your jacket and carefully snuck back toward the front.
“Hey!”  Apparently you weren't as sneaky as you thought.  Chased by the angry cries of the cashier you hurried out the door and jumped in the car, speeding away.
Without really knowing where you were going and beginning to sober, you cracked open the beer and drank it as you drove farther from the city center.  A few times your vision swam dangerously and you had to swerve to avoid the handful of parked cars though you laughed it off, desperate to find humour in something.
When you finally slowed, turning down a familiar quiet street, you realized where you’d brought yourself.
“Shit,” you murmured as you parked, staring at the house before you.  The drugs were wearing off and you found yourself wishing for another hit.  Getting out of the car you stood on the curb.
Someone had rebuilt it.
Fumbling a cigarette out of the pack in your pocket you brought it to your lips, lighting it absently.
It wasn’t exactly how you’d remembered it, but the house that now stood in its spot was jarringly similar and a strange aching filled your chest.
Memories were strange -- some coming to you easily, while others were fainter.  Over the years time had stolen some memories completely, making room for new ones and suddenly this place felt incredibly foreign to you.  You’d grown up here, but now it was someone else's home.  It wasn’t yours any longer.
You don’t belong here anymore, you thought.
So where did you belong?  To the Umbrella Academy?
They were a family, you’d only come along later.  You already had a family, a father.
But still, you’d belonged there, hadn’t you?  You may not have ever seen the others as your siblings, but you still belonged with them -- though after the events of the morning it was hard to still believe.
Your thoughts slipped to Vanya.  Number Seven.  When you’d first arrived at the academy you’d tried to bond with her, hoping to use your shared interest in music as a connection, but she’d avoided you like the plague.  It wasn’t until you’d read her book that you finally understood.  She’d resented you from the beginning and nothing you could have done would have changed that.
To her, you’d arrived and just like that, just because you had powers, you were automatically accepted, though you’d never seen it that way.  You’d had to earn the others’ trust, forge bonds that they already shared from growing up together.  However, these bonds still meant something to you, and you didn’t want to lose them in three days time.
What am I doing? you wondered, looking down at your hands.  Getting high?  Hurting Klaus?  Running away?  He was right, this wasn’t you.
Why were you here?  You’d find no answers in the past; there was nothing for you here any longer.  You may have risen from the ashes here, but the Academy had molded you, and now they needed you more than ever and you’d be damned if you were gunna let them break apart now.
Reginald Hargreeves’ voice rang in your ears.  “Your fire, your determination is your strongest quality, Number Eight.  Never lose that drive!”
As twilight gave way to night you got back in the car and turned toward home, toward the people who needed you.  You had to make things right -- with Klaus, with the others, with the world.
———
“Hold on.  Hold the phone,” Klaus spoke up, interrupting Luther.  “We all died fighting this thing the first time around, remember?”
You blinked, looking around at the others gathered around the bar, the remnants of breakfast scattered before you.  Wait, what?
“Klaus, shockingly, has a point,” Diego added with a shrug, “What gives us a win this time?”
Looking around you felt the strangest sense that you’d been here before, that you’d experienced this already.  But that was ridiculous, right?
With a crack of electricity a familiar blue light filled the center of the room, obscuring your vision before dissipating just as suddenly, leaving Five standing before you while everyone jumped back.
“The apocalypse is in three days,” he announced, snatching Allison’s cup of coffee and downing in several gulps.  “And the only chance we have to save the world is, well, us.”
“The Umbrella Academy,” Luther nodded.
“Yeah, except with me this time, obviously.’

Down the Rabbit Hole part 30
“God damn it,” I grunt, tugging again at the padlock. Although the paint on the door is flaking and the hinges are rusty the padlock is shiny and brand new.
“This was the big plan, huh?” Fumi says, and I cast him a venomous look.
“I don’t see you helping,” I point out. He uncrosses his arms briefly to scratch at his chin and then crosses them again, leaning against the chain-link enclosure around the shed.
“What’s in there, anyway?” he asks. “It’s a breathing hole, isn’t it?”
“Yeah,” I nod. “Peter told me about it. It’s what he was using to – “ I cut myself off, thinking back to Elena’s reaction when I’d told her Makado and Peter had been smuggling people inside the Pit.
“Using it to what?”
“Nothing,” I tell him. “It doesn’t matter. Goddam it!” I yell, slamming my fist into the door. I can feel a cold touch of panic start to creep up my throat and I swallow hard, trying to will it back down. “It’s okay,” I say, thinking out loud. “There has to be another way in, there just has to. Fumi, do you know any - ?” I stop. He’s grinning at me, like a cat that caught a canary. “What?”
He points. “You notice anything about that door?”
“What - ?” I turn, look it over once more. “What are you talking about?”
Fumi steps past me, shoves the flat of his utility knife into the exposed hinge and levers it upwards with a quick motion, and then hands me the pin. I stare at it and then back at the door. “You have to be kidding,” I say, grabbing my own knife. Fumi is working on the second one down, laughing quietly to himself.
I smack him lightly on the shoulder and then step beneath him, get down on my knees to fiddle with the bottom hinge. “How long ago did you notice the hinges were on the outside?” I ask.
“As soon as you couldn’t get the padlock open.”
“You bitch,” I laugh. “So you were just sitting there watching me tug on it for five minutes?”
“I wanted to see if you’d figure it out,” he grins. “You have that side?”
I nod and then together we slide the metal door off of its hinges and lay it against the fence behind. The shed is little more than a sheet-metal cage surrounding the orifice, obliquely angled and wetly suppurating, about eight feet high and four feet wide. I grimace. “This is going to suck,” I say. Fumi nods.
“That’s an understatement,” he tells me. “Do you have any idea where this lets out?”
I shake my head. “Peter only told me it lead to somewhere in Bronchial. I don’t know much more than that.” I let out a groan. “Just like I don’t have much of an idea where Elena might be.”
Fumi pats my back lightly. It’s supposed to be a reassuring gesture I guess but it doesn’t make me feel much better. “We’ll find her,” he tells me.
The radio at his belt crackles and belches out a string of static. It makes me jump. There’s a great leaden weight in my stomach and again even though I hate how weak it makes me feel, my hands are trembling. From fear, from anticipation, from…from dread. Dread that I might be too late.
Fumi nudges me. “You ready?” he asks. I nod quickly, swallow hard, and then Fumi is pressing aside the musty flesh of the Pit’s breathing-hole and I, choking down the rising bile, follow him inwards into the twisting folds and venous cavities of the Pit’s lungs.
 * * *
“How’d you get out?” I ask him. Fumi grunts, his helmeted head inclining back towards me briefly. I push another alveolar fold out of the way, ducking my head to get beneath the dripping, swinging flap of flesh. The bronchial tissue crinkles beneath my gloved fingers and, not for the first time, a frown of disgust furrows my brow.
I hear a slow breath in my helmeted ears. Fumi had showed me how to link the radios up so we wouldn’t have to yell at each other to be heard over the Pit’s gusting, noxious breaths, but one of the downsides is that it’s a hot mic – you can’t turn it off or you have to redo it each time. Fumi had already gotten into a habit of chuckling at me whenever I let out an unwilling little grunt of disgust every time I stepped in a particularly gloppy bronchial puddle and it made me want to smack him, but so far I was managing to keep my temper in check.
Part of me wants to rush, wants to blast through the tangled and twisting passages of Bronchial like a heat-seeking missile and rip and tear my way down to wherever the hell Elena is and carry her out of here come hell or high water, but a cooler, more rational part of me also knows that this isn’t something that can be rushed, not without us getting hurt as well. If I was moving any more quickly there’ve been at least a dozen places we’ve passed so far where I know I would have fallen, maybe twisted an ankle or – god – hurt my poor broken leg even further. Whatever magic the autodoc was capable of, I don’t think it figured I would be putting in this much use so quickly, and even though I try to treat it gently there is a dull, foreboding bone-deep ache settled heavily into the middle of the bone that makes me worried, makes me wonder how much time I have before I hurt it really seriously.
“I was hoping you’d forgotten about that,” Fumi tells me, and I blink.
“What –“ I start, but he’s already sighed and moved onwards. I rush up to follow him, find him pondering a narrow y-passage.
“I think it’s this way,” he says, pointing to the leftmost one, and before I can ask him if he’s sure or if we’d better check both just in case, he pushes ahead into it leaving me to follow, shaking my head. “I’m not proud of running,” he says. “Back when those two psychos shot the Sergeant. I was almost hoping you’d forgotten that I had.”
I hadn’t forgotten but I also hadn’t really cared. I was almost glad that Fumi had gotten away when he had. Erica and Marcus – I’m not sure whether or not they had even noticed him. “I don’t want you to feel guilty,” I tell him, “because you shouldn’t. They would have shot you just like they shot the Sergeant or Elena.”
“They shot Elena?” he asks, incredulous, and I nod, briefly recounting what happened. He lets out a muffled curse and shakes his head. “Roan, kid…you know there’s a decent chance she’s already dead, right? Even if the bullet missed anything too vital it’s not a good environment down here to have a hole in you. There are some seriously nasty bacteria and -”
“Yeah,” I snap. “I’m aware of that. And don’t call me kid.”
A frosty silence settles over us
“Sorry,” he says after a moment.
“It’s okay,” I breathe, although I’m saying mostly to try and convince myself. “I just – she can’t be dead, okay? She just can’t be.”
The Pit moans again and as before the flesh around us contracts rhythmically. Fumi and I both stop, forced to wait it out.
“I’m not trying to judge,” Fumi says, “but you’ve only known her for what, a week? Tops? Is the tail really that good?”
“Oh, fuck off,” I tell him, not even bothering to hide the serration in my voice. “You know, I heard what you said on the radio that day. Back before the briefing.”
“Refresh my memory.”
“You called Elena on the radio, asking where the new girl from Admin with the tight little ass was, you couldn’t find her to tell her to get to the briefing. I think you mentioned something about how you wouldn’t mind getting her alone and –“
So I embellished a little. He was squirming and I felt like being vindictive.
“I’m not proud I said that,” Fumi says, cutting me off, and there is a softness to his voice that makes me stop. The moan croaks out to a halt and with a shudder the flesh around us draws back and opens up. He turns and looks at me; the helmet pushes his cheeks together, makes him look like a dwarf, all ruddy cheeks and thick black beard. “If it’s any defense, I didn’t know you were listening. You were with Elena?”
“Yeah.”
“Even back then?”
“She was showing me the little graveyard,” I tell him. Unwillingly my lips quirk up into a smile. “I think I would have kissed her then if you hadn’t interrupted.”
Fumi laughs. “That’s rich,” he says. “You kiss people in a graveyard?”
I roll my eyes at him, push him forward. “Well, because of you I had to wait until the party. I don’t think either of us worked our nerve up again until then.”
“I knew she was into you,” Fumi mentions, starting off again. “That’s the reason I said that in the first place, cause I was trying to tease her. I just didn’t know you’d, you know, literally be right there.”
“You knew? What, did she tell you?”
“You couldn’t tell she was into you until the party?” he asks, equally quizzical, and I feel myself blush, let that one go unanswered.
We walk onwards in silence. Well, relative silence; Bronchial is a rhythmic forest of noise, a low dull rush of wind grinding at the back of my ears even through the helmet. I’d noticed back in the shed that they roof was made of something like chicken wire but even so it was bowed inward severely. I’d initially figured it to just be the weight of the wire itself pulling downwards but now I think it was the suction of the Pit breathing in.
Ten more steps. Fumi and I start to talk at the same time, and then I laugh and tell him to go while he tries to be gallant and tells me to go. I hope he doesn’t think I hate him.
“How did you get out?” I ask him, and he waves his hand.
“Right. The Cord isn’t the only way up, just the fastest. I circled back around, took a couple of elevators, and then high-tailed it all the way up. You can make it in about a day, if you hustle. I grabbed Makado as soon as I got up and told her what had happened and she locked everything down, sent me to the barracks for ‘rest.’ I think she was just worried I’d tell everybody what I’d seen. Then…I don’t know. I guess she went down herself, hot-rodded an IAV all the way down to the place you were. The fungal zone? We’re not supposed to go down there normally, it’s…ecologically unstable.”
“It was horrible,” I murmur, thinking of Peter. Thinking, unwillingly, of Klaus.
It was a familiar feeling, that rush of panic and then of calm, of everything clicking together and smoothing out, once I’d shot him. I had stood over him, the gun clutched loosely in my hand, still trained on him even though it was empty and the slide had locked back once I’d shot that last magic bullet, one in the chamber, Marcus’s parting gift to me from beyond the grave. I had stared at Klaus until he had lain still for quite a while and then I had knelt down next to him and grabbed the magazine from the floor, slotted it back into the pistol and released the slide, and then I went outside and had a good cry.
Fumi nudges me and I realize I’ve zoned out while he was asking me something. “Why do you like Elena? Really,” he repeats. “I’m curious.”
I give him a little grunt to indicate that I’m thinking about it. “She’s kind to me,” I say finally. “She knew I wouldn’t be able to cut it down there from the very start. She tried so hard to keep me out of the Pit and then once I was in she took care of me the whole way. She has a…a very strong sense of right and wrong. She doesn’t compromise for anything.”
I glance over at Fumi. The passage has widened enough at this point that we can walk side by side. He stays silent. He wants me to keep going, of course, but I don’t see any harm in it so I oblige him. “She was the first girl I had sex with,” I tell him, studying his reaction closely. He looks over at me, holds my gaze for a moment, and then looks away.
“Really?” he asks.
“Yeah. The night of the party.”
“First love,” he says. I laugh.
“A new experience, maybe,” I concede.
“Is it much different?”
“Hmm?”
“From being with a man. Is it different?”
I think about it. “Very,” I tell him. He nods.
“I mean,” he grins, “you’d think it would be, but I would never know…”
I elbow him lightly and then dodge the one he throws back at me. We walk on for a while further.
“You know,” Fumi starts, and then stops.
“What?”
“It’s nothing.”
“Oh, shut up,” I growl at him. “What is it?”
“No,” he says, pushing a fold of flesh out of the way. “It really is nothing, I was going to say something but I thought better of it.”
“Just tell me.”
He looks back at me for a moment, then shrugs. “I was going to say,” he says slowly, “that in all honesty Elena and I are not on the best of terms.”
“Oh?”
“A little while before you showed up, I had to turn her down. She didn’t take it very well. Made some…colorful comments about my heritage. Which are completely untrue, I might add.”
“Turn her do – oh,” I finish. I can feel my cheeks color beneath my helmet.
“You can see why I might have thought better of telling you something like that.”
“Well, it doesn’t bother me,” I say firmly. “That’s the past and whatever decisions she made were ones she made then, not now.”
“Do you really believe that?” he asks. “I mean, really – I’m just curious. I’m not trying to make you doubt yourself if that really is true.”
“Aren’t you angry at her?” I say, sidestepping the question. “I mean, if she came on to you and then acted like a bitch about it afterwards…”
“What I’m trying to say is, that was a particularly Elena thing to do.”
I think about that for a moment and then I find myself smiling. “Fumi…are you trying to tell me Elena is a slut?”
“That’s such a harsh word,” he says. “But…yes.”
“Are you afraid I’m going to get hurt? How big brother of you.”
“Please. I just think it’s something you ought to know about. Besides, if you’re as involved as you say you are with her, I’m sure she told you herself.”
That does make me stop. “She didn’t actually,” I say. Fumi raises an eyebrow. I can just barely see it beneath the glass pane of the helmet. “She told me that there was sex, occasionally. You know, between team members, but never any sort of emotional attachment. It would, I don’t know, disrupt the group dynamic or whatever.”
“Mm,” he grunts. “That’s maybe the idealized version of it, I guess. All I can tell you is that her and Slate were pretty hot and heavy for a while but they broke it off, I don’t know, maybe a month or two ago.”
I think about that, roll it around in my mouth. I don’t much like the taste. Slate had grown on me over the short time I’d known him but not that much. I think about him and Elena, about her flashing that dazzling smile at him, about him grinning that sly, knowing, fox’s grin at her, about his hands encircling her waist, cupping her lithe, muscular ass, and I feel a little spark of jealousy flare up in my stomach. Then I take a breath, deliberately, and let it out.
The night that Slate died Elena and I had held each other tightly in our tent and she had come close to crying but hadn’t. I’d told her it was okay and that if she needed to talk about it she could, but she had just shaken her head. There was grief in her eyes but it was low and cool and detached. We had held each other and I had traced my fingers up and down her naked body but we hadn’t made love. It had been too serious for that. I wanted her to know that I cared about her, that she had more meaning to me to me than just as a series of orifices. In the morning she had kissed me awake and had smiled so brightly that for a moment I’d thought the sun was rising, right there in the belly of the Pit, and it had all been okay.
“What are you smiling about?” Fumi asks, and I laugh. I almost trip on a tumorous, fleshy nodule growing out of the floor and he catches me, puts me back upright again.
“I was thinking about Elena,” I tell him, and he shakes his head, grin sprouting amid his forest of a beard.
“I could have told you literally anything about her and you’d still be head over heels for her, huh?”
“Yeah,” I admit. “The last relationship I was in wasn’t the best.” I shrug. “I only stayed in it for as long as I did because I – because I made some bad decisions and I figured that everything I touched turned to shit. Thor – my ex-boyfriend – he didn’t. So I clung to it way, way longer than I should have.”
“His name was Thor?”
“It was a nickname. His real name was Richard.”
Fumi nods. A little more silence passes, and then he nudges me.
“At least you have some self-awareness about it,” he says.
“Oh, I didn’t for a long time. But I’ve had a lot of time to do some soul-searching recently,” I say, formalizing masses of incoherent thoughts that have been bunching behind my eyes for at least the past two days, if not longer. “And I decided I wasn’t going to fuck this one up, if I could help it. I don’t care if she’s been wild, I don’t care if she’s a slut, she’s been kind to me. That’s what matters.”
Do I mean that? Is that what my soul thinks? Am I just trying to make myself feel better after discovering the Elena isn’t a saint? I think back to that first night that I kissed her, drunk and urgent on the steps of the barracks, the crickets playing symphony and the fireflies fluttering in a spangled backdrop. I think back to the way the hair on the back of my neck had stood up, to the tingling feeling in my stomach when her hand had knitted into my hair and held me closer to her.
The Pit’s lungs are interminable. Way after winding way, passage after passage. It’s only been about a half hour or so but it feels like ages. Fumi is of the opinion that we ought to head down to the Control Center and raid their armory, get some real firepower. Between the two of us we have two little .45-caliber pistols, that’s all, and even then we wouldn’t have them if Fumi hadn’t known where Crookshank had kept them stashed.
I’d accepted mine with hesitation but I knew it would have been the height of stupidity to go down here without being armed. My skin had crawled and I had felt a little like throwing up as I’d taken it from him, as the reliable weight of the pistol settled into my palm, and then I had slipped it into my holster and after a while I was able to forget that I was wearing it, that it was hanging off of my side ready to use.
But a .45 won’t do a lot to some of the things down here. That’s his argument, that he keeps repeating, while I, with mounting frustration, point out to him that the longer we wait, the more danger Elena almost certainly is in. I want to head straight down to the terminus of the Cord and look around for her. We bicker about it for a while until I, with some surprise, take a step around another alveolar fold and find my cleated boots clanking on metal grating. I let out a whoop and charge forward, pushing through another tight sphincter-like gap, and then I burst out into a long hallway, the same one Peter described to me – Jesus, just a few days ago. Or has it been a week already? I’m not sure. I don’t know what day it is, how long this misadventure has been perpetuated for. I turn back around and grin at Fumi, open my mouth to say something stupid, and then something bowls into me, sends me pitching forward. I catch myself but only just, and then something chitinous and hissing and many-legged is crawling over me and wave of white-hot revulsion floods into my stomach.
I reach back and batter at it but just from the angle I can’t do anything to it. It fixes its jaws to my shoulder, cutting through the suit like paper and I cry out in pain. I scrabble for my holster but succeed only in knocking the gun from it, sending it clattering across the metal floor. Fumi rushes forward, crying out my name, but the thing on top of me tugs hard at my shoulder and starts to drag me off. I manage to roll over onto my back and see something like an enormous louse, just inches away from my face, faceted eyes staring into mine. Its enormous mouthparts are coated in blood and my stomach flips as I realize it’s mine, leaking from my shoulder.
“Roan!” Fumi cries. He has his pistol out but he can’t get a bead on it, it’s too close to me.
“Help me!” I call out as the insect pulls me backwards another few feet. I’m too heavy for it to really manage, it’s not quite as much of a monster as an abyssal copepod is, but it feels as though it’s going to bite my arm off at the shoulder, and although I flail at it it just won’t let go –
I draw back and with all of my strength smash it in the face with one gloved fist, and to my shock it hisses and drops me. Immediately I roll out of the way, letting out a screech of pain when my shoulder makes contact with the ground and the jarring of it sends white-hot knives scurrying up my nerves, and then there is a thunderclap nearby and something thumps into the insect. The thunder roars two, three, four more times, and then Fumi is rushing to me and helping me up while my ears ring and the insect shudders quietly to itself as it dies, its head blown apart like a rotten pumpkin.
I sit there in silence as the ringing fades and Fumi washes the cut out with disinfectant, bandages my shoulder, applies an analgesic spray to it, patches me up. The cut apparently is deep but clean and didn’t, as far as he can tell from my range of motion, cause me any permanent damage. I sit there and shudder as the adrenaline gradually leaves my system, and then when he’s done he sighs heavily and sits down next to me.
“You doing okay?” he asks, me, and I nod slowly.
“What was that thing?”
“Just a lesser copepod.”
“Just?”
“Yeah,” he shrugs. “Not an especially big one. Like the abyssal’s smaller, dumber, higher-depth counterpart. Minus the hands.”
I bury my head in my hands. There is a thick knot of worry in my stomach and I don’t know if I can untangle it alone. Fumi clearly doesn’t know what to do about me. “Roan, are you okay?” he keeps asking. He rests his hand gently on my shoulderblade and it makes me want to cry and laugh at the same time.
“How could she still be alive?” I say. It comes out almost like a sob. “If there’s shit like this up here where everything’s – where everything’s mostly harmless, how could she be alive? Something will have gotten her by now, something will have –“
“Roan.”
“Oh god,” I say. “She’s dead because of me, because I was stupid enough to think that she wouldn’t try and attack Erica, she’s dead because –“
“Snap out of it!” Fumi barks at me.
I give him a bleak look. “We should just go back.”
“Roan,” he says, “would Elena give up on you?”
I open my mouth, and then I shut it. Fumi raises his eyebrows at me.
And so with nothing left to say I shake my head, not trusting myself to speak, and then we get up and head off down the hallway, following the signs marked Control Center.
 * * *
I check my pilfered wristwatch again and shift anxiously from foot to foot. Fumi’s been inside the control room for five minutes already. I can’t hear anything over all of the claxons blaring, here outside in the fat little corridor leading up to it, up two flights of stairs and behind another one of those horrible submarine doors. Worry’s gnawing at me, somewhere deep down in the pit of my stomach; what if they know Fumi and I are in cahoots? What if something’s wrong in there, what if he ran into Makado, or the FBI, or…
I bite my lip hard. Around me the Pit quakes again and rattles the little metal pod of the Control Center like someone shaking a tin of mints. I feel like an Altoid. It’s incredible how much less safe I feel inside here, with the high-tech stabilizing arms straining hard against the Pit’s gullet. I’d rather ride this out in Bronchial any day; Bronchial was comforting, even, because whenever the Pit moaned and grunted and flexed, all of the little flaps and craggy little polyps and bulbs and what the hell ever else all flopped over and covered us like a fullbody hug and just held us there, gently, almost, like the Pit was telling us that it would be okay.
I shake my head. “I have got to get out of here,” I mutter, and then I reach over and open the door and stride in and immediately find myself in the middle of a sea of chaos.
There are a couple more nerds here than before and they’re all up to their eyeballs in flashing lights and alarms, each of them on the phone or muttering into a headset or clustered around a fancy-looking holographic unit that displays a three-dimensional image of something that looks like a fat, squat beetroot that I assume is a model of the Pit. Fumi is talking to one of the nerds, rather urgently, his helmet unclasped and hanging at his side, his fingers hooked under the rear lip of it. He glances over when the door opens and sees me and his expression darkens. He’d told me to stay outside; I had given him a rundown of what Makado had done on the way up, through Bronchial and then into the main gullet of the Pit, and he’d said it would be safer if he went in alone and did the talking, after all, at least four of the nerds had seen me with Makado, they surely would have known what I was supposed to be going down for, but I had gotten so worried –
Nobody’s paying any attention to me. Scarcely anybody even bothered to look up when the door opened, and of those that did they met my tight, anxious face with blank stares and unfamiliar visages. I slip inside, duck behind a nerd rushing past with a stack of papers under his arm and slip over to Fumi. The man he was talking to has given him a shake of the head, with finality, and moved away into a back room that I know is a briefing or conference room. The last time I saw it it had takeout containers all over the place; I wonder if they’ve done any cleaning up since.
“Why’d you come in?” he hisses, leaning close to me so we can confer. I shrug.
“Got worried. Did you get the guns?”
“That fuck,” he says, jerking his head back at the conference room, “is in charge and he won’t unlock the armory for me. Wants Makado’s permission, which I’m obviously not liable to get, even if we could reach her.”
“Goddam it,” I mutter. “Look, why don’t we bust in there and just, I don’t know, take the keys?”
There’s another lurch from the Pit and I reach out, grab Fumi’s shoulder to steady myself. “What, you want to just mug the guy?” he asks.
“We are not coming all this way and not getting any of the hardware out of it,” I hiss. “Elena is dying –“
“Yes,” he barks, and then quiets himself. “Yes,” he says, “I’m aware of our time crunch. But if we do something like that, we’re going to get someone on our ass, and I’d rather worry about the wildlife instead of people. You’re already risking everything by coming in here –“
“Fuck this,” I mutter, and then I cast a wary glance around and slip into the conference room, dodging Fumi as I do.
Inside the conference room I find, amid a nest of takeout boxes, the tall, gaunt man Fumi was talking to, speaking in a hushed tone down the throat of a bright red telephone. He glances up as I shut the door behind myself and does a double-take. “Get out,” he tells me, pointing at the door. “You aren’t allowed in there, I already told your friend that I’d need – wait a minute,” he says. There’s a flutter of butterflies in my stomach while I wait for him to recognize me, and when I does I am momentarily shocked that he pales. He slams the phone down into its cradle and points a finger at me. “You had better stay right there,” he warns me. “I know exactly who you are. I’m going to call the surface right now and get them to send a team right down to get you back into custody. You’ve got some nerve –“
“Look,” I tell him. “Just give us the keys to the armory and we’ll be out of your hair. That’s all we want. We’re trying to help,” I say, and as if to punctuate my argument, the Pit groans again.
“Stay right there,” he repeats, and picks up the phone again. I whip the pistol out of my holster and train it on him.
There’s a sensation in my stomach like I’m falling, like I’ve just taken a leap off a cliff, the same lurch you get when you miss a step in the middle of the night and your brain didn’t think it was there, that same sensation of gutless horror like you’ll fall forever and stop suddenly. The man is staring at me; his eyes are very wide.
“Give me the keys,” I tell him. “I’m not going to ask again,” I say, thinking maybe it’ll sound threatening if by some chance my voice happens not to shake while I’m spitting my one-liners.
A part of my brain is screaming at me that I haven’t thought this through, what am I going to do with this guy once I’ve gotten the keys from him, what am I going to do if he calls my bluff, what am I going to do if –
The keys plonk down on the table and slide over to me. Before I can think I reach out and take them, ball them tightly in my fist. I give the man a look and open my mouth to say something but before I can there is another roar from outside and the ground pitches to the left and knocks us both off our feet. There are yells of surprise and horror from outside in the main room and a new alarm is blaring now, one with a much more urgent tone than any of the others. The gun’s clattered to the floor as well and both I and the gaunt man know it. It’s landed just between us, sprawled in a stack of upended file cabinets, just there on the floor. The red emergency lights gleam off its sleek metal lines and make it look like it’s been drenched in blood.
We dive for it at the same time, and he puts his hand in my face and shoves me away, but not before I can fit a hand around the barrel of the gun. I can’t think, my brain has been replaced with something animal, something screaming in terror, but I can feel my lips draw back in a snarl, and even as he arches his fingers inwards to claw at my eyes, the fist I made earlier snaps outwards like it has a mind of its own and slams with all of the might I can muster square into his face and I feel his nose give beneath my balled fingers, and he shrieks and claps his hands to his face. I grab the gun and train it on him again, a little unnecessarily, getting unsteadily to my feet as the control center, clearly at a very cockeyed angle, slips a few feet further down and nearly knocks me over again.
Fumi bursts in but because of the angle the door slams on his face right after he’s pushed it open. “Roan!” he cries. Through the open door I can hear complete pandemonium outside, but through the alarms and cries and panic I hear something that punches my heart straight up into my mouth, makes time slow down to a trickle, running through my agonized brain to give me more perceived seconds to dwell on the horror: I hear the sound of buckling, groaning metal, and then a loud snapping screech as it finally starts to give.

You’ve been summoned yet again for another Hargreeves family meeting, you’re not even a legit Hargreeves either. But alas, you’ve known them since you were 12 and this is kinda Diego’s family so, even a bigger reason to be here. You’re all positioned in various spots around the bar area, as Allison kindly hands everyone a coffee while her and Luther talk about what Five said earlier. Diego’s sitting on your left while you lean into his side, the both of you sharing a cup of coffee since Allison’s container only held four. Klaus is sitting on the floor in front of the other chair-type-couch opposite of you and Diego, Luther is seated on a barstool while Allison stands next to him, leaning herself against the bar.
“Three days?” Questions Allison, at the literal bombshell of learning that the apocalypse is coming.
“That’s what Five said.” Replies Luther taking a cup from her.
“The old bastard did mention the apocalypse, come to think of it. He just left out the part about how soon.” Says Klaus, taking a small sip from his cup.
“But can we trust him? I don’t know if you’ve noticed but Five’s a little...” Allison makes a circular motions to her head as she whistles. Klaus chuckles, “Our little psycho.”
“He was pretty convincing. If he wasn’t trying to stop an apocalypse, those lunatics wouldn’t be chasing him.” Explains Luther. You give a small nod while Diego hands you the half empty cup with his non injured arm.
“Yeah.”
“What did Five even see?” Allison asks Luther, the rest of you staring intently, listening to the crucial information he’s about to tell you next. His face seems to fall a bit, like he doesn’t really want to reveal any details. “Uh....apparently, we all fought together against whoever was responsible.” He pauses, looking at all your faces, clearly still hiding something. Now this information you hadn’t had a chance to hear yet, so you’re all ears to learn how the world ends. Luther then gets up off the barstool, “Okay. So, here’s the plan. Uh, we go through Dad’s research..” The four of you all start speaking at once, definitely not interested in searching through any old papers. “Hold on, hold on.” “Wait a tick, wait a tick, wait a tick.” Diego and Klaus interrupting each other.
You finally speak up, gaining everyone’s attention, “Luther, we’re missing a...oh I don’t know... a minor detail here, what happened the first time around? What did Five see?” He looks at you nervously, well that can’t be good. “Yeah. What are you not telling us? Come on, big boy, spit it out.” Adds Diego. Luther’s eyebrows furrow, he looks almost scared. For a good five seconds he stares back at the four of you, then he looks down at his coffee cup before taking a sip he says something you almost didn’t catch, “We died.” He whispers as he takes a long sip, your nerves prick, you definitely heard that right.
“What was that?” Wonders Allison wanting to hear it louder.
Luther brings his cup down, clearing his throat for a second, “I said, uh, we died.” He says louder this time.
Everyone’s faces morph into that of complete shock and evident surprise. Just hearing him tell you everyone dies again, still sends your nerves into hyperdrive, a wave of fear washing over you instantly, and it’s only Wednesday.
——
Some time passes and more squabbling ensues, now your all sitting around the bar practically interrogating Luther about the apocalypse, he’s doing his best to answer your rapid fire questions. You suddenly hear the sound of Vanya’s light footsteps roaming around the Academy with someone following her? They don’t appear to be of any threat either. Huh. “No, outside the house. Everyone died.” “You don’t say” “That’s terrible.”
“Hey.” Says Vanya, finally revealing herself and her less then suspisous looking friend, who’s smiling oddly at the five of you. The others look up from their conversation. “What’s going on?” She wonders.
All of you shift around awkwardly, “It’s a family matter.” Replies Allison, you cringe inside, eh probably not the best thing to say to Vanya right now, considering no one invited her.
“A family matter. So you couldn’t bother to include me.” Scoffs Vanya, disappointed but not surprised at her family’s tendencies.
“No, it’s not like that. We were...” Starts Luther, apologetically, “Don’t let me interrupt.” Vanya cuts in turning to walk away.
“Wait.” Says Allison rushing over to a retreating Vanya, “I’ll fill you in later when we’re alone.” She pleads, trying to make amends.
Vanya waves her off, “Please, please, don’t bother. And I won’t either.” Snaps Vanya turning to face Allison.
“Vanya that’s not fair.” Jabs Allison, uh just leave the poor woman alone, you think. Vanya’s face falls, “Fair? There’s nothing fair about being your sister. I have been left out of everything for as long as I can remember. And I used to think it was Dad’s fault, but he’s dead.” She turns angrily to look at the rest of you by the bar, “So it turns out you’re the assholes.” She sourly ends with, turning away and walking out of sight, her friend trailing behind her.
“Ouch.” Comments Klaus, you raise a glass to that, downing the whole thing in one gulp. Allison turns around to face the rest of you, “I’m gonna go find Vanya and explain.” She says, not feeling right about what just happened. “No, wait, there isn’t time. We need to figure out what causes the apocalypse. Now there are loads of possibilities.....Nuclear war, asteroids. But I’m thinking this is about the Moon. Right? Dad must have sent me up there for a reason. And I was giving him daily updates on the conditions, I sent field samples.” Rambles Luther, you share a bored look with Diego, then to waste time you stick your tongue out at Klaus, who returns the favor. “The first thing we need to do is find his research.” Klaus suddenly cuts in, “Hold the phone. We all died fighting this thing the first time around. Remember?” Points out Klaus.
“That actually makes sense, surprisingly. What gives us the upper hand this time around?” You wonder, hoping this meeting will end soon, you’ve got assassins to hunt.
“Five. Last time we didn’t have him. We weren’t all together.” Answers Luther as Klaus gets off the barstool holding a hand up to his mouth like he’s about to vomit. Luther continues oblivious, “This time, we’ll have the full force of the Umbrella Academy. That’s what we need.” States Luther ever so confident in his leadership skills.
“Okay, little problem. Five’s MIA once again.” You add bluntly, leaning yourself against the bar, raising your eyebrows at Luther who’s on the other side.
“Well, he had a plan to change the timeline. He’ll be back soon.” Answers Luther, only a tinge unsure of himself, you roll your eyes at him. “I’m going after those masked motherfuckers.” You growl, not wanting to waste anymore time. Luther looks at you in slight confusion, Diego speaking up to clarify, “Hazel and Cha-Cha.” You push yourself up off the counter, walking around the bar and past them as Luther questions why, “What, right now?” Diego follows you turning to answer Luther, “Hell, yeah.”
Luther then does his best to stop you, “I know you wanna avenge your friend, but we got bigger problems here.” You swiftly twist around walking in closer to Luther, if he didn’t know any better he’d probably be a tad bit afraid, “She didn’t deserve to die like that, neither have countless others. If I’m gonna die....and I mean actually die. I want to know it was me who killed those fuckers.” You hiss, fed up with being forced to listen for 20 boring minutes about the apocalypse and how we’re gonna stop it. Five’s not even here to help, so what’s the point. You needed more information first. Not caring for an answer from Luther, you turn around and head elsewhere.
——
After a bathroom pit stop cause lets be real coffee does that to you, you walk into the hallway, not hearing a single sound. Alright where did Diego go? You close your eyes and listen, hyper focusing on the world around you, searching in the darkness for a sliver of sound. Your ears prick at the creaking of floorboards up above you and the familiar thump of Diego’s boots along with Klaus’. Got em, they’re in the attic.
Silently walking up the wooden staircase you turn to your left, walking into the room to see Diego tying Klaus up to a chair. “If I see a boner, I’m out.” Grumbles Diego, who’s walking around Klaus in a circle while tightening the blue rope. You snort, “Is this a bad time?” The two of them shoot their heads up to look at your amused face. “Oh, hello there Y/H. I’m gonna get sober.” Says Klaus casually, his face scrunching up as he starts to laugh. You smirk, folding your arms together, “Interesting. End of the world and you wanna get clean? I mean, you go Klaus, but I’d guess you’d wanna pop every pill in sight.” You wonder, truly puzzled as to his true motives. “Oh, the thought did cross my mind, believe me, but there’s something I need to do, and the whole pesky thing doesn’t seem to work unless I’m sober.” Explains Klaus as Diego gets on his knee to tie down Klaus’ legs. “Is this about conjuring the one you lost?” Asks Diego, Klaus just sighs sadly. “What was her name?” Diego wonders, still working on that knot.
You notice how Klaus’ face shifts from sad to happy to sad again, “His name was Dave. We soldiered together in the A Shau Valley...in the Mountain of the Crouching Beast.” He let’s out a shaky breath, you feel for him, the way he talks about Dave and how his body language changes with different emotions, the way he smiles adoringly at his sweet memories. It’s almost like how Diego looks when he’s complimenting you on something. Your heart hurts for Klaus, you couldn’t imagine a world without Diego in it, life would be so much more dull and quiet. “He must have been a very special person to put up with all your weird-ass shit.” You tell him while smiling, he snorts breaking out into a large grin, “Yeah. Yeah, he was...He was kind, and strong, and vulnerable, and...beautiful. And I was foolish enough to follow him all the way to the front line.” He explains, his voice changing with every emotion. Diego looks up in surprise, “You fought in the shit?” Klaus looks at him, “Oh yeah, war couldn’t take enough bodies. Please. Including his.” Klaus’ face darkens, but only for a moment, “Hey, look at us. Logging in some quality bro time before the end of the world.” Cheers Klaus, Diego gives a slight chuckle, finishing the last knot and getting up to walk towards you.
“Ah, shit.” Whines Klaus loudly, both of you turning to see what’s the matter.
“What?” Asks Diego.
 “I need to pee.”
You roll your eyes looking around the room, spotting what you had in mind, “Okay good, here’s a bucket.” Walking over to it, you pick it up, setting it down next to Klaus. “Piss, shit, throw up, whatever you need to do. It’s your multipurpose bucket, have a blast.” You tell him sarcastically, giving him a kind smile. He looks back up at you with an unpleasant gaze, wanting to argue but knowing to well that you’d just harass him more. Diego turns to leave, you following right behind him, “No wait, come back. Come back! Come back you pricks!” He shouts defiantly, you don’t want to but it’s for the best, so you ignore him. Trailing Diego down the stairs.
Reaching the bottom of the steps, you just need a moment to chill, maybe a ten minute break. With that in mind you walk towards your old bedroom, Diego silently following your lead.
Walking inside you stop and stretch, taking in your surroundings, “Damn, this room is nicer then the one back home, er...well...we don’t exactly have a bedroom.” You tell him, walking over to the large bed, where you jump on it, laying sprawled out on the whole thing. Ugh, you forgot how comfortable it was, and so soft too.
Diego stands in the middle of your room, fiddling with his arm brace, since he did get shot and all. He suddenly looks up at you smiling, laughing to himself, “What’s so funny Hargreeves?” You call out to him, still staring up at the ceiling. He chuckles again, “Remember when Luther burst through here, cause he thought we were doing something else. When we were really just jumping on the bed, smacking each other with those foam swords you bought at the dollar store.” You smile at the memory, letting out a breathy laugh. “I honestly can’t believe none of them ever actually caught us in the act. That was a true miracle.” You mutter. Diego starts walking over to you with a hint of something new in his eyes, your face falls into a frown when you hear the oddly familiar humming of, Grace? But that can’t be, how is she?
Noticing your abrupt change in mood, Diego stops, confusion and a bit of disappointment flashing through his dark eyes. You make eye contact with him, “This is gonna sound crazy. But I can hear Grace humming downstairs.” You tell him, his eyebrows furrow, he definitely was not expecting you to say that of all things.
——
The both you walk cautiously down the stairs and into the main living room where Grace is dusting the head of a warthog. Humming to herself as casually as ever, you stand in the doorway, letting Diego walk up to her. He questions how she’s able to walk around like nothing bad ever happened to her. Grace answers cheerfully, smiling brightly. You decide to let them have their peace, so you turn around and wait by the front door.
Diego and Grace walk aimlessly into the front room, it appears that Grace would like to go for a walk in the park this evening. With nothing better to do and no clear idea where Hazel and Cha-Cha could possibly be, you follow along.
By the time you all make it halfway through the park, it’s dark out and the night air is cool, your personal favorite time of day. Not a lot of people are walking around, the world is quieter, and there’s no sun to blind you when you forget your sunglasses. Grace suddenly stops, a look of concern melted onto her smooth features, “There’s something else that needs to be said, Diego. Pogo and I...we’ve been lying. Lying to all of you.” She states, you walk in closer to her, “What do you mean Grace?” You ask her, perplexed as to what she might tell you next.
——
The six of you gather around the bar, all conversing about how the apocalypse could start and how we might be able to stop it. From your spot behind the bar, next to Diego, you get the oddest feeling of deja vu. When a flash of blue unexpectedly appears, bringing Five with it. He falls onto the table in front of you, landing hard on a black briefcase. The rest of you, jumping back in surprise, definitely not expecting Five to randomly teleport from out of nowhere.
“You guys, am I still high, or do you see him, too?” Asks Klaus bewildered, as Five rolls off the side of the bar.
“Five, where have you been? Who did this?” Demands Luther as he and Allison go to help Five up.
“Irrelevant.” Snaps Five, on to more important things.
He takes a coffee cup out of Luther’s hand, and downs the whole thing. As you all watch, completely dumbfounded as to what’s even happening right now. Five finishes his drink, turning around with a hard look on his face, “So, the apocalypse is in three days. The only chance we have to save our world is, well, us.” He explains.
“The Umbrella Academy.” Says Luther, stating quite the obvious.
“Yeah, but with me, obviously. So if y’all don’t get your sideshow acts together and get over yourselves, we’re screwed. Who cares if Dad messed us up? Are we gonna let that define us? No. And to give us a fighting chance to see next week, I’ve come back with a lead.” Five says, holding up a white folded piece of paper, “I know who’s responsible for the apocalypse. This is who we have to stop.” Allison takes the paper from his hand, the rest of you gathering around her to see what it says. “Harold Jenkins?” She wonders aloud.
“Who the hell is Harold Jenkins?” Questions Diego.

Eternal Flame- Kol Mikaelson 4/?
Chapter 2- And Here I Thought We Were Getting Along.
Summary: 'You never know whats in a persons heart until you truly know them' - Belle French, Once Upon a Time
Singing. Thats all what Alexandra Gilbert has cared about since she was young and all she would care about until she met him.
With Alexandra fighting vampires, werewolves and all between she may do a thing she vowed never to do, fall in love.
And to think it all started with a walk in the woods...
WC: 2909
I came here for a good time not to get abused by a psychotic hybrid and watch one of my good friends get their necks snapped. Wasn't on my todays to do list, let me explain what happened next.
"Ah Dana, why don’t you relax? You and Chad sit tight." How gracious of you, you psycho I thought no way in hell am I being sarcastic to the scary hybrid maniac again, I quite like my head attached to my body. "I assume you’re the reason Elena's still walking around alive?" The psycho question Bonnie
"That’s right. If you want someone to blame, blame me" Bon I love you but let’s not commit suicide by placing blame on yourself.
"Oh, there's no need for blame, love. just you and your witchy interference seems to have caused some undesirable side effects." He told her making me thank whatever god that he won't kill a friend of mine well so I thought. "And since you caused the problem, I’m going to have you find the fix." Wonderful, fan-fucking-tastic.
Before anyone was able to come back with a comment a blonde girl dressed in a pretty outfit came through the doors the opposite side of the hall with her dragging Tyler. Oh, this is getting better and better.
"Get off of me!" Ty yelled at the blonde but I have an inkling that just yelling that isn’t going to work.
"Hush now" the blonde said to Tyler hearing her speak with the same accent as the psycho essentially holding the rest of us captive, wonderful.
"I'd like you all to meet my sister. word of warning... she can be quite mean." He said teasing his sister clearly annoying the girl.
"Don't be an ass" before throwing Ty in to the hybrids arm. I like her all things considered.
"Leave him alone!" Elena yelled futile. I mean did she really think that was going to work.
"I'm going to make this very simple... every time I attempt to turn a werewolf into a vampire they die during transition. It’s quite horrible actually." The psycho hybrid informs us before biting into his wrist and making ty drink his blood which I can say from experience isn’t a great experience. "I need you to find a way to save my hybrids bonnie and for Tyler’s sake... you better hurry" before snapping his neck killing him.
"Jesus!" I yelled instinctively as Klaus smiles at us creepily. What is happening to this town, now not only is the sheriffs’ kid essentially dead but the mayors as well. Wonderful
Matt dropped down to the floor looking at Tyler almost in tears staring at his best friend before saying "He killed him".
"He's not dead, Klaus blood will turn him into a vampire" I informed Matt with a hand on his shoulder attempting to comfort the quarter back.
"And if Bonnie is successful, he will live through transition. Go on then. Go and fetch your grimoires and enchantments and what-not. I'll hold onto Elena and Her" he said pointing at me "for safe keeping" fantastic I’m leverage now. I should have taken up Sam’s offer to give me a ride back home. Bonnie looks apprehensive to leave so I shout
"Bon just go we'll be fine? I assume so anyway." But she seemed more focused on Elena what a shocker and when got the okay from her left. Once it was just the six of us Rebekah came up to my sister looking her up and down.
"So, this is the latest doppelganger. The original one was much prettier" I’m not going to lie that moment seemed to be the only good thing that had been said since I left the boys.
"Enough Rebekah. Take the wolf boy and her somewhere, would you?" Her brother told her like she was the dog not him.
"And here was me thinking we were getting on" I said to the hybrid in an innocent tone. I saw the blonde give a small smirk in the corner of my eye before grabbing Tyler by the t-shirt he was wearing and me roughly by the arm.
"God what is it with this family and being rough. Keep it inside the bedroom will you."
Rebekah dragged me and a now dead Tyler away from the gym hall and to the chemistry class. Mr Jones.
"NO" I shouted the top of my lungs where the vampire stopped and looked at me funnily. "You walk through that door and you'll be washing confetti out your hair until next year. trust me I rigged it myself." She gave me a confused look "Senior prank night" where she gave a nod in realization before moving into the class next door which was prank free luckily.
I saw Caroline knocked out, Rebekah throwing Tyler down beside her. I didn't have to question what happened to Caroline the angle of her neck was enough besides its bad enough having an original watching you like a hawk but an angry one... don't even want to think what the blonde would be like when angry. She sat down on one side of the class me at the other with Caroline lying next to me, my phone starts made a noise to indicate a text my main bet it is Sam to see if I’m home safe.
"what is that?" the blonde asked confused by the contraption in my hands.
"It’s an iPhone?" I questioned back where has she been the past decade "Have you never seen one before?"
"Obviously I haven't, I wouldn’t have asked if I had" she snapped back
"Okay, relax. I'm just going to text my friend that I’m fine, okay?" Trying to calm her down a bit not wanting to cause an angry original. I contemplated sending an SOS then thought I would just be putting him in danger as well, dealing with this bull shit is enough I don’t want Sam dragged into it.
"What’s a text?" Jesus she really doesn't know anything about technology. Where has Klaus been keeping her?
"It’s like a letter only you can send it on this device. look I'll show you." I told her crawling over next to her "I'm texting my friend that I’m safe. so, I type it in to the bar here from the keyboard here" I was explaining it as best as possible for her whilst also replying to the text. Once I taught her that she must have heard vibrating because she heard Caroline’s phone. She picked it up and started to go through her phone, I'm still trying to teach her the basics of a phone. such as I just taught her how to take a selfie and it seems to keep her amused.
"Thank you. I'm sorry I never caught your name?" Rebekah asked kindly which is quite unusual for a borderline kidnapper.
"Uh, its Alexandra but call me Alex, Alexandra sounds so formal even from a millennial old vampire" giving a little laugh that she mirrored. "So, Klaus is your brother, must be ... eventful?"
She gave out a laugh "That's one word for it. Me and my brother have a complicated relationship." She told me smiling at me "I overheard your sisters with the doppelganger?" She questioned about Elena causing me to roll my eyes "Not a fan I take it."
"You could say that. Just like you and Klaus our relationship is complicated."
"If only families were easy"
I went to reply in agreement until I heard groaning coming from the direction Caroline was lying in making me snap my head quick enough to give me whiplash.
"Care" I rushed to her side "Are you okay? How's the neck?" I asked quickly making sure my friend was okay and in the right mind set for what she is about to see. From behind me I could hear the British voice I have grown used to in the past hour.
"We didn't have mobile telephones in my day. Would have made life a lot easier I suppose." Ending with taking a selfie which I smirked at. Caroline didn't have time to engage in conversation about her phone or wellbeing being more concerned about her boyfriend.
"Where's Tyler?" In a panic Rebekah answered her question calmly.
"He's dead. ish" Moving a bit to let Caroline have visual of her dead not so dead boyfriend.
"What did you do to him?" Caroline was starting to get a bit angry and I'm not sure if I want to see a fight between these two from such close proximity.
"Think of it as he's having a nap. When he wakes up, hell he a hybrid." Rebekah informed her
"Klaus turned him, Caroline. His hybrids are failing and we need Bonnie to find a spell to make sure Ty is a success and well lives." I told her giving her the run down of what is happening.
Nevertheless she races up and put her head to his chest to try and find a heart beat. While watching Caroline trying to wake Tyler hopelessly Rebekah was swiping through the photos she had taken with the help of yours truly before coming across a cute picture of Elena and Stefan
"Ugh. Vomit." She said disgusted by the picture before seeing something familiar in the picture and not just Stefan. She zoomed in to the neckless Elena wore since a few days in their relationships before getting up and turning to me shouting "Why is that doppelganger bitch wearing my necklace?!" making me jump a bit.
"Your necklace? That’s the necklace Stefan gave Elena at the beginning of their relationship. How is it your necklace?" I retorted confused on how Elena managed to get a necklace from a vampire whose been in a box for ninety years.
she stormed out of the class with me following slowly compared to her you know seeing as she’s a vampire and all. She marched into the gym hall towards my sister
"Where is it?!? Where is my necklace?" Shouting at Elena to give her necklace to the proper owner.
"What are you talking about?" Asked Rebekah’s big brother confused looking between me and his sister. Giving him the phone, she showed him the picture of the couple with Rebekah’s necklace.
"She has my necklace. Look."
"Well, well, more lies" he replies looking at Elena and Stefan.
"Where... is it?" Rebekah asks slowly and honestly her being somewhat calm is even more terrifying than her furious.
"I don't have it anymore" Elena tells the original which she finds unsatisfactory.
"Your lying!" she bellows before biting Elena’s neck which then Klaus pulls her off and takes her over to the side.
"Knock it off!" Klaus warns his little sister but she isn't backing down that easily, it was her necklace for nine centuries to be fair.
"Make her tell me where it is Nik!" she whines to her brother convincing the hybrid to talk to the doppelganger.
"Where's the necklace, sweet heart? Be honest" trying to convince her to tell them where the necklace is
"I'm telling the truth. Katherine stole it." Elena defends herself, first time for everything I suppose.
"Of course it would be that bitch." I muttered the same time as Klaus yells out dramatically,
"If we had the necklace, it would make things a whole lot easier for your witch, but since we're doing this the hard way, let's put a clock on it, shall we?" Declaring that he was putting a time on this, setting the dreadful noise of the gym clock buzzes and it’s set to twenty minutes stop clock. After this he begins to compel Stefan "Twenty minutes. If Bonnie hasn't found a solution by then, I want you to feed again. Only this time, I want you to feed on Elena. You know you want to." Oh, fantastic my sister is going to be a drained blood bag if Bon doesn’t find the right spell out of thousand within 20 minutes. Wonderful.
"No, Klaus! don't do this to him!" My sister yells. When is she going to get it through her thick head that these are the Salvatore’s or Katherine these are thee vampires, they don’t take orders from a human even if they are a Petrova doppelganger.
"No one leaves. If she tries to run, fracture her spine".
"Oh how delightful" I muttered.
Rebekah grabs my arm albeit gentler this time taking me away with her and Klaus.
"No! Alex! Let her go please!" I hear Elena beg for my life, which although we are sisters is a nice feeling that she remembered about me.
"Oh love, don't worry your precious Alex will be quite alright with my dear sister." Klaus retorts before walking through the doors to go out to the corridor. "I'm sorry your brought into all this sweet heart." Klaus apologise not even sounding a tad sincere.
"Yeah, let’s just say next time I’m offered a ride I’ll be taking it. rather not get brought into my sisters mess again" this makes Rebekah smirk as we depart ways from her brother to head towards the class we left Caroline and Tyler in.
After a long seventeen awkward minutes with the two blondes sitting opposite sides of the rooms me in the middle being a barrier of sorts but as soon as it hit the three minute left mark Tyler woke up making me race towards the werewolf turned hybrid
"Where am I? What happened?" Tyler questioned the two of us, seeing Rebekah and looking extremely confused
"Tyler" Caroline began but Rebekah interrupted before she could say anymore
"Don't be shy about it."
"What’s going on?" Tyler still and rightly so confused I would be as well if I woke up in a class from a broken neck with three females two vampires.
"Klaus is turning you into a vampire. A hybrid. You’re in transition" Caroline starts off being kind and leaving the hard bits out.
"Don’t leave the hard bits out sweets. you-" but I cut her off
"You'll only live if Bonnie is successful but if she doesn't find a solution then... you'll die" I told him trying to block out any emotion that would rub off on to him and Caroline but not succeeding seeming stressed and upset.
"You’re going to be okay. Okay? It's going to be okay." Caroline says not only trying to convince Tyler but herself also.
"I wonder how she's doing." Showing us the time left on her clock only being two minutes "Tick Tok goes the gym clock."
I look upset and stressed I step outside in the hallway leaving the couple to have a moment but Rebekah follows "I'm sorry, Alex. I don't know what I'd do if someone tried to hurt my brothers the way you are. I'm so sorry" her apology seeming to be more sincere compared to her brothers earlier. I nodded in thanks not wanting to seem remotely weak. Tyler will live. He has to.
I breathe in and out steadying my heart rate before going back into the class where Caroline and Tyler are situated obviously upset, nervous and worried from the look on their face. But after a few minutes and most likely the death of my sister which brings tears to my eyes an unlikely hero comes to save the day and that person is Klaus Mikaelson.
"Well verdicts in. The original witch says the doppelganger should be dead." Making me deflate tears finally running down my cheeks at the thought of my sister dying. I may not have seen eye to eye with her but she was still my sister.
"Does that mean we get to kill her?" Seeming happy until she seems me and then tries to hide her excitement failing in doing so.
"No, I’m fairly certain it means the opposite." He tell his sister
"Wait Elena is alive?" I question the hybrid in which he ignores but putting two and two together I breathe in a sigh of relief that my twin sister is alive.
"What?!?" Rebekah exclaims also being partly ignored by her brother. She pulls Caroline and myself back so we don’t interrupt any process of what will happen such as Klaus feeding my friend my sisters’ blood out of a small test tube.
"Elena’s blood drink it"
"Tyler no!" Caroline yells in warning
"Caroline! He’s dead either way!" Giving her a pleading look if she can be quiet and let this psycho feed him Elena’s blood.
"At least we can agree on something sweet heart" He says talking to me making me glare at him.
After a struggle Tyler finally drinks the blood in the test tube.
"There we go good boy"
"He isn't a dog" I snarked towards the original which he returned with a glare with the same amount of malice I sent him.
"And here was me thinking we were getting along" mirrorring my words earlier.
Once Tyler had finished drinking her blood he coughs and falls to the floor from rolling about on the desk that he was lying on. He was screaming and groaning before he holds his head and screams so loud it hurts my normal human ears. his face finally changes: His eyes are golden and he has fangs along with veins under his eyes just like a vampire. I glanced at Caroline worriedly when Klaus said.

"Well, that's a good sign"

The Eighth Child (~TUA AU~)
Chapter 14: The Day That Didn’t Happen
Warnings: strong language, sexual innuendo, mention of drug use
(Eighth Child Masterlist)
Tumblr media
- Klaus? - I turned around in bed when I noticed I was alone - Honey?
I got up and went to his room, Luther was at the door.
- Good, you're up, you too Vicky - Luther said - we need to talk, you,  me and the others in the living room... Now-ish.
- Wow, Luther, that sounds like a real rager, but my schedule is already chock-full - Klaus slurred.
- Luther, can you give us a second? - I said holding onto my robe.
- No time, the world ends in three days - Luther said casually.
- What? - I looked at his face searching for a sign of laughter - we'll be right there.
Klaus was crouched in front of his toilet, I joined him and rubbed his back slowly.
- Are you feeling sick?
- No, I was just throwing away my stash.
- Wait a second, are you quitting? - I looked at him in disbelief.
- Yeah, I think it's time... I had a nightmare last night, about the war and Dave, I can't keep pretending those things didn't happen and hiding behind drugs.
- I'm so proud of you, Klaus - I kissed his lips softly.
- Besides... What we did last night was a lot better than getting high - he cocked his eyebrow.
- It was taking you way too long to say something like this... Let's go, love machine.
We made our way to the living room, everyone was already there.
- Oh, nice of you to join us - Luther said snarkily.
- Someone's happy today... - Diego looked at me with a smirk, I noticed his arm was hurt, but I figured if I asked he would think I'm trying to deflect.
- Yeah, I heard it through the grapevine that you, little miss, brought a boy over - Allison teased - did you see who was it, Klaus?
- No... Didn't get a good look at him - Klaus frowned dramatically, making me giggle - Victoria Maria Hargreeves, are these hickeys on your neck? What type of filthy man would do this to you?
- Come on, guys, focus! - Luther clapped - apocalypse in three days!
- What do you mean three days? - Allison asked while giving each one of us a cup of coffee.
- That's what Five said - Luther shrugged.
- The old bastard did mention the apocalypse now that I think of it - Klaus said while sitting on the floor by my side - he just left out the part about how soon.
- Can we trust him? - Allison asked - I don't know if you've noticed but Five is a little...
- Our little psycho - Klaus chuckled before touching my cup with his.
- He was pretty convincing - Luther said - if he wasn't trying to stop the apocalypse those lunatics wouldn't be chasing him.
- That's why they were after him? - Diego shook his head.
- This reminds me, Vicky, I need to tell you what Diego and I did yesterday, it was so cool! - Klaus turned to me - we totally fucked those idiots over!
- What did Five even see? - Allison asked.
- Uh, apparently... We all fought together against whoever was responsible - Luther looked at us with that face, I hate that face he does when he's trying to hide something - okay, so here's the plan...
- Wait, what? - Allison noticed as well, soon we were all trying to get a word in, taking over each other.
- What actually happened the first time around? - Klaus asked looking up at Luther.
- What are you not telling us? - Diego asked - come on, big boy... Spit it out.
- We died - Luther whispered before taking a sip of coffee.
- What was that? - Allison walked towards him.
- I said, uh... We died.
We all looked at each other scared, if this thing managed to kill me it must be really dangerous. "I just need to gain some time, I need to find a way to get to the tubes" I heard Five's voice and furrowed my eyebrows, what tubes was he talking about?
- We can't die - I mumbled - things just started working out for me!
- I think we have bigger worries than that - Luther shot me a look.
- We need to figure this out - Diego pointed at him.
- Is it just us? - Allison asked.
- It's everybody - Luther said.
- In the house... - Diego tried once again to clarify.
- In the entire planet - Luther shook his head - everyone died.
- Hey - we all turned around when we heard Vanya's voice - what's going on?
There was a man by her side, he looked familiar: The harmless-looking face, the innocent-looking eyes...
- It's a family matter - Allison said.
- Family matter... None of you could bother to include me? - Vanya mumbled.
- No, it's not like that, we were just... - Luther tried to explain.
- Don't let me interrupt - Vanya said as she was about to walk out.
- Vanya, wait! - Allison followed - I'll fill you in later when we're alone.
- Don't bother - Vanya's voice was filled with pettiness - and I won't either.
- Vanya, that's not fair - Allison protested.
- Fair? There's nothing fair about being your sister! I've been left out of everything as long as I can remember! I used to think it was dad's fault, but he's dead, so it turns out you're the assholes.
Vanya stared at us for a few seconds until it finally hit me...
- Klaus! - I grabbed his arm, making him jump - this is him!
- Him who? - Klaus whispered.
- The guy from the convenience store, remember? The day we went to the lab...
- Oh my God! It is him! - Klaus shouted - you have some balls showing your face around here after what you thought about my sisters!
- What are they talking about? - Vanya looked at the guy.
- I don't know, do we know each other? - The guy looked at me with a smile.
"Shit, she remembers me... She knows" I heard and looked at him agape.
- Damn right I remember and I know! - I said with a trembling voice, Klaus wrapped his arms around me, never taking his eyes away from the man.
- You're not making any sense, Victoria - Vanya said starting to get angrier.
- Get away from this weirdo! He's dangerous, Vanya! - I yelled - I can read thoughts and he thinks some very fucked up shit!
- Oh, so now you can read minds too... - Vanya lifted her hands in the air - I bet Allison got you into this, didn't she? You are unbelievable!
Vanya left followed by the mystery man who seemed to be a little scared now.
- Wait, do you know this guy? - Allison whispered to me.
- He recognized me a few days ago, it was when my new power was first kicking in. It's true, I can read minds, but only when the thought comes to me, I can't control it - I was trying really hard not to cry - he started thinking about... doing stuff to me and you and then beating us.
- Oh my God! That's disgusting! Vanya has to break up with him! - Allison widened her eyes - I knew there was something wrong with him...
- Are we just glossing over the fact that Vicky can read minds? - Diego looked at me - that's awesome.
- Can we please focus? - Luther banged his fists on the table - we need to figure out what causes the apocalypse! Now there are loads of possibilities, nuclear war, asteroids... But I'm thinking, this is about the moon, right?
- Here comes the moon talk... - I rolled my eyes.
- Dad must've sent me up there for a reason, I was giving him daily updates, on the conditions, I sent field samples...
- Shut up about the moon! Shut up about the moooooon! - I screamed making Klaus and Diego burst out laughing.
- We all died fighting this thing the first time around, remember? - Klaus said wiping away a couple of tears from laughter.
- Klaus shockingly has a point - Diego was catching his breath - what gives us the win this time?
- Five, last time we didn't have him, we weren't all together.
I tuned out what Luther was saying when I noticed Klaus starting to gag. He let go of me to go sit on the couch. I followed and he held up his hand, trying to stop me from coming too close.
- Are you okay? - I asked.
- I just... It happens when I'm getting clean.
- Want me to get you some medicine or something? Maybe some ginger ale?
- No, it's okay - Klaus gave me his best attempt at a smile through the nausea.
- Where even is Five? - Allison asked.
- He had a plan to change the timeline, he'll be back soon - Luther said.
- I'm going after Hazel and Cha-Cha - Diego said getting his jacket.
- Now? - Luther turned to look at him.
- Hell, yeah. Three days and I'm losing light by the minute.
- Diego, look, I know you want to avenge your friend, but we have bigger problems here! - Luther sighed.
- She wasn't just some friend! If I'm gonna die, I need to know I killed those bastards first.
- What makes you say that? I feel great... - Klaus said hugging his own stomach and leaning forward.
- I didn't - I looked at him, the sweating was starting again.
- I was talking to Ben - Klaus whispered as he was getting up, I followed.
- Stop making this about you! - Diego shouted before leaving.
Klaus and I were making our way up the stairs, Luther tried to stop us.
- Klaus! Vicky! So what? You're giving up on the world too?
- Yeah, pretty much... - Klaus said with a nod.
- So that's it? Vicky, you're cool with us all dying in three days? - Luther looked at me.
- Of course not, but I can't leave Klaus alone right now, he's not feeling well.
I put my arm around his shoulders and with the other hand, I slowly rubbed his stomach as we walked to his room.
- Vicky, you should go - Klaus said - I don't want you to see me like this again, not now that we are...
- Stop that! I've seen it before, I can help you, we're not any different now than we always were, our relationship just has more perks - I joked.
- Please, I... This is not pretty, I know it.
- I won't leave your side, Klaus.
- Fine, then can you at least get me some tea? Chamomile...
- That I can do - I kissed his shoulder before heading to the kitchen.
I ran downstairs and in about five minutes I had a perfect cup of tea, I even squeezed half of a lemon in there, like Klaus always does, but when I went back to his room, he wasn't there.
- Klaus... - I called hoping he was in the bathroom, but it was also empty - Klaus!
I started to worry when I realized he also wasn't in my room or my bathroom, that's when I heard Diego "I hate this room". I rolled my eyes, making my way up to the attic.
- Tighter and higher - Klaus said as Diego tied him up to a chair.
- Please tell me this is not a sexual thing... - I said as I leaned against the doorframe.
- Yeah, if I see a boner, I'm out - Diego said tugging the rope and making Klaus inhale sharply.
- I got your tea - I rolled my eyes - even though you ran away from me to hide in the attic.
- Can you... Help me drink it? - Klaus chuckled
I walked to him and slowly brought the cup to his lips, he took a few sips and closed his eyes, soaking in the warmth.
- End of the world and you wanna get sober out of a sudden... - Diego said -  Don't get me wrong, man, good by you, but I'd think you'd wanna pop every pill on the planet.
- The thought did cross my mind, believe me, but... There are two things I need to do and it only seems to work when I'm sober.
- Is this about conjuring the one you lost? - Diego was now tying his feet, I watched as I sipped the rest of the tea Klaus had left.
- Yes, that too... His name was Dave. We soldiered together in the A Shau Valley, in the Mountain of the Crouching Beast. We were very close and... - Klaus looked at me not wanting to make me feel uncomfortable, but I just nodded - I love him.
- He must've been a very special person, to put up with all your weird shit.
- He was - Klaus smiled - he was kind and strong and vulnerable... And beautiful. I was foolish enough to follow him all the way to the front line.
- You fought in that shit?
- Oh yeah, baby - Klaus raised his brows.
- How'd they let you do that?
- Let me? War couldn't take enough bodies... Including his, I never had the chance to say goodbye, he died when I was in the city with Vicky.
- Wait, Vicky was there too? - Diego looked at me and I nodded.
- I was with Klaus when we accidentally ended up in the middle of a war zone, but they kicked me out, so I walked for hours until I found a lovely group of girls in Huế and they helped me get a job... As a dancer.
- A dancer? Like an exotic dancer? - Diego was definitely having a hard time picturing his very shy and insecure sister dancing on the pole.
- Yep, that kind... - I chuckled - it was a very weird experience, to say the least, but those people were some of the nicest, kindest, and most caring people I've ever met. They were my family over there.
- That explains the old vet who recognized you at the bar - Diego finished his knot - I'm glad we kicked his ass! Calling you a hooker... What is the second reason why you want to get sober, Klaus?
- Well - he looked at me and quickly pointed his eyes elsewhere - if I only have three days, I would like to be sober to spend time with my girlfriend and remember every second of it as we both die.
- A girlfriend too? When did you get a girlfriend? - Diego laughed.
- It's been just a couple of days, but... - Klaus directed his gaze at me - I have loved her for as long as I can remember, she's the most special, the prettiest and the funniest girl I know, I need to be 100% present if we only have three days.
Diego looked at Klaus and then at me and my silly smile, then back at Klaus, I could hear the sound of the wheels in his head turning.
- Wait a second... - Diego slowly got up - the boy you brought last night... That was... OH MY GOD! WHAT? YOU TWO ARE...? WHAT?
I bit my tongue as I let out a laugh, Klaus was equally amused. Diego looked like a little kid who just found out where the babies come from.
- You can say so... - I nodded.
- But... That's so weird!
- It was weird for us at first - Klaus said - but I just couldn't resist that rack, oh my God... You should've seen her in that stripper outfit!
- Ew! - Diego clenched his eyes and we laughed even harder.
- Klaus! - I scolded him - that's not what happened!
- Ok, ok... We have always felt more like best friends than brother and sister - Klaus said - so it was a natural progression of feelings until Vicky finally admitted that she is desperately in love with me.
- Shut up - I smirked - you cocky little shit.
- I'm cocky alright... - Klaus winked as he bit his lip.
- I'm gonna puke - Diego looked away - but I guess it does make sense.
- Hey, look at us - Klaus tilted his head - loggin' in some quality sibling time before the end of the world.
- Might as well - Diego sighed - everyone I like is already dead.
- Ah, yes... The lady cop - Klaus said.
- Yeah - Diego looked down.
- She seemed like an amazing person - I gave him an understanding look.
- Amazing is an understatement - Diego smiled sadly - mom too, I let them both down. So here I am alone with my two siblings slash siblings-in-law.
Diego made his way to the door, I patted his shoulder.
- Ah, shit... - Klaus whined.
- What? - Diego turned around.
- I need to pee - Klaus said and I snorted.
The next few minutes consisted of Diego and I untying Klaus so he could go to the bathroom and me laughing hysterically at Diego's face.
When Klaus came back he seemed to have changed his mind.
- Maybe that's a bad idea - Klaus said twitching - maybe I just need one last hit to ease me into it, it will be ok...
- No, sit your ass down - Diego ordered.
- It's fine, I'm just gonna go and...
- Sit down - Diego kicked Klaus on the crotch, making him fall on the chair -  you're doing this for Dave and Vicky!
I watched with my eyes widened as Klaus gasped and coughed with the shock from the kick. I cringed thinking of how much it must hurt.
- You're right, you're right, go ahead - Klaus shook his head to get the sweat off of his face - I did deserve this.
- These are the drugs talking - Diego finished much faster this time with my help - remember why you're here.
- Thank you, bro - Klaus looked at him fighting another wave of nausea.
- This is for next time - Diego gave me a bucket - puke, pee, whatever you need. Multipurpose, see?
- Thanks, Dieguito - I played with his hair a little before he left.
"God that's so weird, Klaus and Vicky..." I giggled as Diego's voice resonated in me. I sat down in front of Klaus and took a moment to look at his face.
- What? - He asked with a half-smile.
- You're so beautiful - I whispered.
- You're one to talk... - He joked.
- I can't believe you're doing this for me.
- Who else? Who else would make me wanna do something so stupid and painful? I want to be a better person to you, even if it's just for three days. I'll make amends with Dave, let him know how much I love him, and become the guy I wanted to be when I was a kid.
- Is there anything you wanna do in these three days? Travel, have new experiences, go somewhere?
- I want to stay in bed with you, cuddle, kiss you and have lots, when I say lots I mean LOTS... - Klaus nodded to emphasize his point - Incredible amounts of sex.
I chuckled and kissed the back of his hands.
- Sounds like a plan...
- I have a question - Klaus ran his tongue around the inside of his mouth - how should I introduce you to people? Should I call you my girlster or my sisfriend?
- I think girlfriend is fine... We're not biologically related.
- Thank God! Can you imagine how awkward that would be?
We both grinned at each other.
- When are we telling the others? - Klaus asked.
- They'll know soon enough, I'm just hoping their reaction is half as funny as Diego's.
- That was hilarious! - Klaus seemed to forget about the nausea and the shaking, that smile... That's what made me fall in love with him.
