ok prior to the finale my top three s4 episodes are easily connor’s wedding, america decides, and living+ (in that order probably). rounding out the top 5 would probably be kill list and rehearsal (altho i haven’t rewatched rehearsal so maybe not i just remember feeling fond of it lol)
#posting this for posterity’s sake#wonder if the finale will change that either bc it’s great or bc its so bad it ruins prev episodes lol#might be a surprise the funeral ep isn’t up here as i am a known roman lover and he finally had his breakdown#but idk! idk. didn’t quite do it for me. felt a lil too on the nose and sympathetic and cliche especially the ending w the self destructive#jump into the protest etc#like both that ep and tailgate party got a little too close to Saying The Thing and being a bit soapy#at times ofc#but yeah i feel like everything i liked most ab church and state was just reiteration of characterizations from prev episodes#rome breakdown was great i just didn’t love the way the running into the protestors thing ended up being done kinda#the episode just felt a little too like Hey Guys This Fascist Has Feelings :( which like TRUE i’m a HUGE proponent of pushing that but i jus#think it was a little too unsubtle for my tastes. like what did roman getting beat up willingly as a grieving method do that roman listening#to logan edited to insult him over and over and over in living+ didnt#and the latter was way more unique and interesting and layered whereas the former felt so cliche and on the nose#wish it was done to make it a little grayer make rome a little more of an asshole even#ok i’ll stop rambling byeee#that’s v much just my opinion and my own sensibilities which r pretty specific ! still a good ep just not like a Me episode the way living+#or america decides were. and i mean connor’s wedding was an Everyone ep let’s be so real#succession

Because i feel like i might be overestimating what the average is, i shall Conduct Research
This isn't about how many languages you speak, but how many youre able to count up to at least 10 in, since basic numbers are some of the first words you learn in a foreign language and sometimes you catch them without having studied the language at all

You know what I realize that people underestimate with Pride & Prejudice is the strategic importance of Jane.
Because like, I recently saw Charlotte and Elizabeth contrasted as the former being pragmatic and the latter holding out for a love match, because she's younger and prettier and thinks she can afford it, and that is very much not what's happening.
The Charlotte take is correct, but the Elizabeth is all wrong. Lizzie doesn't insist on a love match. That's serendipitous and rather unexpected. She wants, exactly as Mr. Bennet says, someone she can respect. Contempt won't do. Mr. Bennet puts it in weirdly sexist terms like he's trying to avoid acknowledging what he did to himself by marrying a self-absorbed idiot, but it's still true. That's what Elizabeth is shooting for: a marriage that won't make her unhappy.
She's grown up watching how miserable her parents make one another; she's not willing to sign up for a lifetime of being bitter and lonely in her own home.
I think she is very aware, in refusing Mr. Collins, that it's reasonably unlikely that anyone she actually respects is going to want her, with her few accomplishments and her lack of property. That she is turning down security and the chance keep the house she grew up in, and all she gets in return may be spinsterhood.
But, crucially, she has absolute faith in Jane.
The bit about teaching Jane's daughters to embroider badly? That's a joke, but it's also a serious potential life plan. Jane is the best creature in the world, and a beauty; there's no chance at all she won't get married to someone worthwhile.
(Bingley mucks this up by breaking Jane's heart, but her prospects remain reasonable if their mother would lay off!)
And if Elizabeth can't replicate that feat, then there's also no doubt in her mind that Jane will let her live in her house as a dependent as long as she likes, and never let it be made shameful or awful to be that impoverished spinster aunt. It will be okay never to be married at all, because she has her sister, whom she trusts absolutely to succeed and to protect her.
And if something eventually happens to Jane's family and they can't keep her anymore, she can throw herself upon the mercy of the Gardeners, who have money and like her very much, and are likewise good people. She has a support network--not a perfect or impregnable one, but it exists. It gives her realistic options.
Spinsterhood was a very dangerous choice; there are reasons you would go to considerable lengths not to risk it.
But Elizabeth has Jane, and her pride, and an understanding of what marrying someone who will make you miserable costs.
That's part of the thesis of the book, I would say! Recurring Austen thought. How important it is not to marry someone who will make you, specifically, unhappy.
She would rather be a dependent of people she likes and trusts than of someone she doesn't, even if the latter is formally considered more secure; she would rather live in a happy, reasonable household as an extra than be the mistress of her own home, but that home is full of Mr. Collins and her mother.
This is a calculation she's making consciously! She's not counting on a better marriage coming along. She just feels the most likely bad outcome from refusing Mr. Collins is still much better than the certain outcome of accepting him. Which is being stuck with Mr. Collins forever.
Elizabeth is also being pragmatic. Austen also endorses her choice, for the person she is and the concerns she has. She's just picking different trade-offs than Charlotte.
Elizabeth's flaw is not in her own priorities; she doesn't make a reckless choice and get lucky. But in being unable to accept that Charlotte's are different, and it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with Charlotte.
Because realistically, when your marriage is your whole family and career forever, and you only get to pick the ones that offer themselves to you, when you are legally bound to the status of dependent, you're always going to be making some trade-offs.
😂 Even the unrealistically ideal dream scenario of wealthy handsome clever ethical Mr. Darcy still asks you to undergo personal growth, accommodate someone else's communication style, and eat a little crow.

I think something worth of pointing out about Danny is how often he uses the words ¨I don't want to fight you¨ or ¨I don't want to hurt you¨ to some of his enemies, specially to Valerie Gray.
Danny usually fights his enemies but if he sees that the situation can be solved without resorting to violence, such as being a misunderstanding or his enemies being manipulated, he would chose to see if he can talk them down. This is because Danny is a very empathetic person and is able to understand when someone isn't evil or they don't have bad intentions. He has gained more than one ally this way, like Wolf and Dani.
To be honest, i'm not sure if Danny even enjoys fighting. It feels like it is something he does to defend his town and family or friends more than anything else.

It's honestly frustrating that I've seen non-Russian queer people almost bragging about how they would be illegal in Russia, labeled an extremist or terrorist. Russian queers are in danger, their government has made it clear where it stands, and it's made this effort for the better part of a decade (even longer, perhaps). This will kill people, don't mistake this for a quirky little proclamation from a government, akin to somebody saying the sky is pink. Russian queer people were already expressing their fear, and the least we can do now is express our love for them, and advocate with them.
Russian queer people, I love you. I love you all so much. I am so sorry, I cannot begin to express the grief that I feel, and I hope that you are safe. Words cannot encapsulate how I feel as a non-Russian, and I cannot hope to comprehend how it feels to actually be in this situation.

Love that Charlie was so protective of Vaggie during the whole battle against the angels. She was literally following her around the whole time. She was so hyper aware of her, being Vaggie's shield, especially since Carmilla pointed out that angels like Vaggie have a bad habit of forgetting to defend themselves. One of the criticisms against Chaggie is that Vaggie dedicates too much of herself to Charlie, but the thing is she's only like that in the first place because Charlie loves her just as much. Vaggie needs to work on looking out for herself ofc(they're already dating in the show. They need something to develop from duh) but it really makes so much sense for Vaggie to be as devoted as she is when it's a woman like Charlie she's in love with.

i think when people say something like "well, our current societal standard method of parenting can't be fundamentally traumatizing when most people turn out okay" or indeed say much the same about any basic aspect of our society (school/work/the medical system/etc is so normal and commonplace, it can't be traumatic, everyone turns out basically fine) they might perhaps be wise to remember that for the vast majority of human history every second child died and every fourth child died in infancy and while nowadays we would recognize any parent losing a child, let alone multiple, as something horrifically traumatizing it was also the norm for literally thousands and thousands of years of human history
