As the green dragon tears through the forest, trees uprooted and dirt thrown through the air, the young firbolg grips her obsidian battleax. With an echoing cry, she strikes down on the creature's next with the fury of a raging landslide.
Back to barbarian! Barb has several classes revolving around animals (both Totem and Beast) so I figured it would make sense to do something focused on plants and the other side of nature. Hope you all enjoy! The updating Homebrewery link can be found here, while a static PDF of the above image is here. Thanks for feedback!

This is still one of my favorite homebrews, so much so that I'm turning it into a class of its own. For now, here's the barbarian class now with image IDs in the description.

I'm not getting delayed you are getting delayed shut up =3=
For real, I got busy actually working on one of these guys, so the other two may be particularly low quality. That coupled with the fact that I had my birthday didn't make things easer on me.
ANYWAY
First we got the Way of the Breathmaker! For the race-locked day
Tumblr media
This subclass doesn't single-out dragonborns like bladesinger does with elves. If you can make breath weapons, you can perfect them with this.
Then we go with the path of the beholder! For the monster day!
Tumblr media
Imagine a barbarian, if its fists were charged with the energy of the beams of a beholder. Terrified yet? You should.
And then, then... THEN. COOK FIGHTER
Tumblr media
This guy is battle master on crack. It can learn recipes to cook and buff its allies. Speaking of which, the real reason I got delayed:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
THESE MFERS TOOK 4 DAYS TO MAKE
I WILL NEVER EVER MAKE A TAKE ON BATTLE MASTER EVER AGAIN.
So, yeah. Hope you like it. And please don't be mad if the recipes are blatantly broken, because they probably are.

Homebrew Barbarian Subclass: The Whaler
I reblogged a lighthouse earlier, so I’m in a salty mood. The inspiration for this one should be fairly obvious:
Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering whale; to the last I grapple with thee; from hell’s heart I stab at thee; for hate’s sake I spit my last breath at thee. Sink all coffins and all hearses to one common pool! and since neither can be mine, let me then tow to pieces, while still chasing thee, though tied to thee, thou damned whale! Thus, I give up the spear!
-Captain Ahab, Moby Dick
If ever there was a picture of immortal, undying oceanic rage, it would be Captain Ahab. And I could have gone ranger for him, or possibly fighter, but that rage. That hate that spits even the last breath at an enemy. That’s a barbarian, surely.
PRIMAL PATH: PATH OF THE WHALER
The sea is not for the faint of heart, and never has been. From time immemorial, the ocean has bred the hardiest of fighters and hunters, the strongest and toughest of foes. For what else can stand up to the sea’s tempestuous rage? All the vast creatures of its waters, the dragons and krakens and plesiosaurs and leviathans? Most are content to avoid or survive such foes. But for as long as people have hunted the waters of the world, there have been stories of those who stood toe to toe with them. Those hunters, driven by rage or spite or stubbornness, who have proven themselves as titanic and terrifying as the great monsters that ply the waters.
These are the barbarians of the Path of the Whaler. These are the leviathan hunters, and their rage is legendary.
STAINS OF THE SALT
When you choose this path at 3rd level, you gain a swimming speed of 40ft and you can breathe underwater, as the ocean stains your soul with salt and remakes you in its image.
SPECTRAL HARPOON
Beginning at 3rd level, you can channel the power of your rage into a spectral harpoon, the essence of your oceanic fury. When you enter your rage, as part of the same bonus action, you can summon this spectral weapon to your empty hand. The harpoon appears as a ghostly barbed spear, tethered to you by a thin spectral line of seemingly unlimited length. The weapon vanishes when your rage ends, or if you use an action to banish it early.
The harpoon has statistics of a javelin, though it deals psychic damage instead of piercing damage, and counts as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to non-magical attacks and damage. If you throw the harpoon and miss, it immediately reappears in your hand. In addition, when you successfully hit with this spectral weapon, you can choose to leave it embedded in your foe. While embedded, the harpoon deals 1d4 psychic damage to the creature at the end of each of their turns. The weapon remains embedded until you use a bonus action to summon it back to your hand, or until the weapon vanishes.
SHALT NOT ESCAPE
Starting at 6th level, you can use the tether of your spectral harpoon to bind yourself more closely to your foe, or your foe to you. While your spectral harpoon is embedded in a creature, you can use a bonus action on each of your turns to do one of the following:
Teleport up to 30ft closer to the harpoon along the tether.
Reduce that creature’s speed by 10ft until the start of your next turn.
GRIM PURSUIT
At 10th level, your grim determination to slay your foes strengthens your spectral harpoon and your tether to it. While embedded, the harpoon now deals 1d8 psychic damage at the end of each of their turns, and you can teleport up to 60ft along the tether.
In addition, you gain the ability to manifest your harpoon’s tether more physically. As a reaction, when the creature your harpoon is embedded in moves away from you, you can choose to solidify the tether, binding yourself to that creature and allowing yourself to be pulled behind it. You can make the tether spiritual again at any time, no action required. While being pulled by a solidified tether, your distance from the creature on each of its turns remains consistent, and you take 1d6 bludgeoning damage each turn it moves as long as you are in contact with the ground or another solid surface.
LEVIATHAN KILLER
At 14th level, you fully embody the rage of the leviathan killers of old, driven by fury and spite close to madness. While your harpoon is embedded in a creature, all your attacks against that creature have advantage, and you are immune to fear and charm effects related to that creature.
(NOTE: I’m very much uncertain of the mechanics/wording of Grim Pursuit. Does 5e have a dragging mechanic? The idea is, your distance stays consistent on its turn, when it is moving, and you take damage when you’re dragged over solid ground on its turn. On your turn, you can move on your own recognisance, your tether adjusting as you go, if you have the capability to move.
Also, yes, this is very much a subclass designed to pick one enemy at a time and obsessively murder them to death even if they die themselves in the process)

The Path of the Thembo - 5E Homebrew Barbarian Subclass
Please remember to keep an adequate supply of identical T-shirts on hand. Wouldn't want to cause more car crashes.
Charming your allies is a fun mechanic. Fits pretty well for a more social and support-focused subclass, and it's not like base Barbarian is lacking in combat ability.
Links in reblog!

The take that Ashton should be punished/"nerfed" by losing his dunamantic abilities and having the hypothetical elemental themed ones replace it is? So wild to me tbh.
Like. If we're being honest, the titan abilities could literally be ANYTHING. So instead of introducing an entire new set of abilities for a functionally new subclass while getting rid of the ones we've been seeing all campaign? If the rewards would really make a single character THAT unbalanced? It would probably be 100 times easier to just nerf/adjust whatever hypothetical abilities they were supposed to be adding in the first place to make it more "fair".
Because they already have the Ka'mort shard and the only mechanics "benefit" it's given thus far is the fact that it changed Ashton's pre-campaign race from half-elf to earth genasi. Which is arguably not even a benefit because he didn't keep the features/traits of a half-elf. Then the only known narrative benefit has been the fact that they seem to have an unnaturally heightened connection to nature/eidolons. Which has only ever been for ultimately inconsequential narrative implications or adding a little spice to explain/"justify" the effect of certain dice rolls.
So we have no real established expectations for what the "awakened titan" abilities will be. It'll be sad to have them watered down but would make way more sense than just scrapping an entire homebrew subclass's mechanics?

Barbarian: Path of Possession
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Done faster than expected (I was excited for it, unclear why).
Barbarian: Path of Possession (PDF here)
Rage full of ghosts. Whenever you rage you can make spirits rise (wait, too early for that song). Haunt your enemies, turn your weapons into poltergeists, and frighten your foes to death.
Happy Halloween, darklings...
Sorcerer: Vampiric Bloodline soon.
(And don't forget, Grimdark & Dangerous is 50% off for the month of October and Psionics: Spellcasting & Specialties, my new book that revamps psionic abilities to fit 5e better, is available for purchase!)

Alright, time to actually post on this site!
I started a small project to homebrew a subclass for all 13 DnD classes, working my way to releasing all 13 as a full codex. For now, I'm hoping to release one every week, though since my focus is about as steady as a seesaw on a fault line, the timeline is rough.
I'll start by posting my Barbarian subclass: The Path of Impulse! This is for anyone who wants to play a barbarian that uses other emotions to battle! Mechanically, it focuses on versatility over specialization.
Have fun! Let me know if you have any concerns, or if you have any insights from playtesting!

i would like to share my headcanons for the honor among thieves cast's subclasses and my reasoning for them (some of these have effectively if not already been confirmed but mnjsnjsngsnjm)
Edgin: College of Valor Bard / (one of the more physical bard subclasses and also it feels right. there's swords but the flavor isn't the same. half tempted to say eloquence but the flavor isn't all there either.) Holga: Path of the Totem Warrior (Elk) / (Elk Totem warrior cause she's from the Elk Tribe and also the being nimble on your feet feels right (Rare Elk W). I was considering berserker cause it's one of the very few not magic inclined barbarian subclasses but frenzy is a dumb ability and it makes me mad and i'm not gonna do that to her.) Simon: Wild Magic Sorcerer / (confirmed but also that's literally the only correct sorcerer subclass for him. that's just the correct option.) Doric: Circle of the Moon Druid / (confirmed via her statblock but i'll give my reasonings anyway. Moon druid is all about wildshape which.... yeah. Also they're described as 'fierce guardians of the wilds' which i think fits with the Emerald Enclave.) Xenk: Oath of the Ancients / (Somewhat confirmed? He talks about the tenants of the ancients which... yeah. Also it's described as 'as old as the race of elves and the rituals of the druids.' which y'know he's lived for 5 gagillion years because being partially undead does that to a mf so) Forge: Mastermind Rogue / (Described as: 'Your focus is on people and on the influence and secrets they have. Many spies, courtiers, and schemers follow this archetype, leading lives of intrigue. Words are your weapons as often as knives or poison, and secrets and favors are some of your favorite treasures.' HMMMMMMMM. Also some features from it: 'Insightful Manipulator' 'Misdirection' 'Soul of Deceit'. bro. he's literally a conman this is just the correct subclass option for him.) Sofina: School of Necromancy Wizard / (i don't think i need to explain why the UNDEAD wizard following a LICH would be a necromancy wizard i think that's pretty clear actually.) also for funsies: Kira: Arcane Trickster Rogue / (her eventually becoming a rogue makes the most sense to me, the other classes don't feel right for her. i also think the touch of magic from arcane trickster fits her well. i mean she already has that pendant and magic items are a gateway drug.)

Subclasseptember 2023, Day 6 - Path of the Demonhorde
Demon Barbarian? Demon Barbarian.
Another pretty simple one, mostly about damage and little side features to customise your rage with (you'll notice I like to have baked in options to spice up combat, especially for martials).
There's not a huge amount to say otherwise, aside from a fun little combo of the extra damage from grappling combined with what is basically a mass-grapple as 14th level.
