Denji Hayakawa - "Half Your Melon Bread"
🐇.•°•.🐇.•°•.🐇.•°•.🐇.•°•.🐇.•°•.🐇.•°•.🐇.•°•.🐇.
In which a certain chainsaw devil man shares a sweet treat with a stranger at the park after shirking his devil hunting duties for the day. Or; In which you give Denji half of your melon bread out of sympathy poor hungry devil hunter boy.
Part 2

"Maaan, today was a long one"
Denji groaned out; stretching as he walked along the vacant street.
He had snuck off from Aki and Power not too long ago; ditching his assignment in favor of following a stray dog he'd spotted on the way. Unfortunately, he had lost sight of the dog soon after and now he was lost, wandering about the empty streets.
Just up ahead he spotted a park. It was one of those parks with a half playground; just a singular slide and a standard two-person swing set. There were also quite a few benches that littered the outer border and faced inward toward the playground.
But something caught Denji's eye or rather someone did. On a bench sat a lone person, a human, at least from what he could see at the distance he was standing from them.
Their back was turned to him, but he could see right off the bat that they had some kind of food given the way their arms and mouth were moving. From the ever-shrinking distance he found himself at, Denji believed it was a burger or something; he'd heard those were pretty damn good.
A nice, pillowy, sesame seed bun, melty cheese, crunchy pickles and onions, a thick juicy patty, and every condiment he could get his hands on... man, that sounds amazing right about now.
G U R G L E
Shit, now he was hungry.
Unfortunately due to ditching the blood-loving psycho and cock blocking top knot that were his partners, he had no money to buy food.
But the person on the bench had come to a stop next to his food... would they share with him? Or at least give him some money to buy his own? Probably not, but it's worth a try. So, the chainsaw devilman took a seat next to the stranger and simply glanced at their food from time to time, looking away every time they looked at him.
"Here."
The stranger softly spoke, catching the dirty blonde's attention.
In their hand was half of the packaged snack that they were previously holding; it looked like a bun but it was shiny with a criss-cross pattern on the top. Denji froze, not knowing how to respond; he didn't think he would get this far. Hell, he didn't even know what they were giving him.
"It's melon bread. I didn't poison it or anything; you saw it in the package already."
The stranger speaks again, this time standing up and holding the snack out the the devilman.
Hesitantly, Denji took it from their outstretched hand. He looked it over and lifted it to his nose, taking in it's fruity scent. Then he took a bite; and his mind was blown.
"I hope you enjoy it, you looked hungry. Well, see ya."
The stranger smiled at him gently, letting out a soft chuckle, before turning and walking away.
The dirty blonde-haired boy jumped a bit as he watched them walk away. Was it weird that he wanted them to stay here a bit longer? Should he tell them his name?
But, unfortunately for Denji, when he had finally made up his mind, the stranger was gone.

Gowillaz monstew AU, just for you 🤲
Murdoc: Vampire
2D: Zombie
Noodle: demon/demon slayer
Russel: human (possessed)
* Russel’s backstory is pretty much exactly the same— he witnesses his friends’ deaths and becomes possessed by their spirits and now he has the ability to summon and absorb spirits. He can also sense whether an entity has malicious energy or not. After his friends’ deaths, his parents send him to his uncle’s in England, where he starts taking on jobs to “exorcise” peoples houses (he’s not expelling the ghosts, but letting them reside inside his body)
* Noodle uses her demonic abilities (ala Devilman Crybaby) to fight other demons. She and Russel meet when they both show up to the same building to deal with the very powerful spirit that’s haunting it. They team up, since demons are too powerful for him and Noodle can’t slash ghosts with her sword.
* In their travels, they accidentally hit a shambling zombie, our good friend 2D, with their car. While Noodle is ready to take his head off, Russel senses that he’s harmless, and so they let him join them. Since Russel also does taxidermy, he helps repair 2D’s body as he tends to fall apart
* 2D doesn’t have any sort of bloodthirst, but he can regenerate if he’s buried and left to rest for a day or so, and then he digs his way out again
* Murdoc is a vampire who desperately wants to be the next Dracula. He resides alone in the abandoned and thoroughly haunted Kong Studios. Though this takes place in the equivalent time period to phase 1, he basically larps as a 17th century vampire with a laptop. He still sleeps in a Winnebago in the garage, only he’s spray painted it black and has a coffin inside.
* Noodle hunts down Murdoc to kill him, but he goes down so easily she decides he’s barely a threat. The three of them start freeloading in Kong to keep an eye on Murdoc and also because they need a place to stay. He allows it in exchange for them providing blood for him, getting rid of the spirits that plague his house, and also because he’s secretly been very lonely
* Since Murdoc isn’t opposed to taking blood from defenseless humans, Noodle brings him blood from her demon hunting trips. While he gets along fine with them, they don’t fully trust him to get blood on his own
* Since 2D regenerates, he also lets Murdoc drink his blood. They bury him in the graveyard behind Kong to recover so he can do it again and again. However, it’s tiring for him and the more damage he takes/after having a strenuous few days in a row, the longer it takes for him to come back. So while Murdoc can get away with knocking 2D’s head off when he’s annoyed with him, and 2D might play Jackass for fun once in a while, it’s in their best interests not to overdo it, which they often do.
* While Noodle insists on using her powers to fight other demons, Russel worries for her since she’s still a little girl, and sticks around to look out for her as well as 2D. She insists on being independent and often disappears for days at a time, but begins to grow attached to them (including Murdoc, after a while) and as she does, she begins to regain her memories of her life before she acquired her demonic powers
Misc tidbits:
* 2D became a zombie after being hit by a car and doesn’t remember his life before that. When he was hit by Russel and Noodle, he acquired his second eight ball fracture
* Murdoc was turned into a vampire in 1966 when working as a gravedigger
* Murdoc can turn into a bat
* They all meet around the time of early phase 1 (1998ish) and while they don’t form a band, they do stick together over the course of time (and Noodle does age since she’s not fully a demon).
* Vampires also age but very slowly— drinking monster blood keeps them going but human blood makes them immortal at the cost of becoming completely monsterous. Murdoc has not done so yet but keeps saying he’s going to be immortal some day but for one reason or another has been putting it off
* Russel letting so many spirits reside in his body takes a major toll on him and he eventually is given an exorcism to function again, but in the process loses Del and the rest of his friends

Hey op just curious what makes you hate the new Hellsing fanbase. As a fellow Hellsing fan I was wondering if I’ve completely missed something strange going on lately.
The new Hellsing fandom honestly irks me because of the surface level probing of the source material*. Yes, to most it's a hard core, dark, violent, mad and bad-ass anime but, like I've said so often, for so long on this dumb blog, it has the BEST female characters I've ever seen, recently rivaled by Arcane. Incredible depiction of platonic relationships and morally grey characters. To me, it's primarily a found family story, among other things.
The side characters are incredible, Yumi and Heinkel are the most underrated of the show. I mean come on priest and nun lesbians (lesbian used liberally). Heinkel is confirmed by the author to be an INTERSEX HUMAN. Alucard shapeshifts into a female (which, looking at the Devilman fandom, everyone took for an obvious trans metaphor, why not here?). The source material is as homoerotic as it can get between a lot of the characters (the tension between Sir Integra and Seras during the blood scene). Let's not forget Rip van Winkle, Pip, Walter, and Alexander. Alucard's teasing, Seras' naivety and subsequent maturity, Pip's endurance and playful wittiness. These characters and relationships are stuck in my head forever, they're all incredibly unique, fleshed out and worth remembering, no matter how short a time they spent on screen. And the character designs? As a long-time vampyr and catholic guilt fan, can I just say. Rawr. This show shaped how I dress like irl and my own shitty characters, as well.
Sir Integra is my favorite character of the show and one of all time. Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing. Like, an actually good depiction of a no-nonsense, androgynous as hell, unabashedly commanding (dare I say) woman? And it's played completely straight? No "Whaaa that's a woman?" every 2 seconds or "heh, you will listen to me despite my womanhood" from her. Powerful in her own right despite being the few "magic"-less humans of the series. 0 sexualized Ultimate scenes (sorry Seras and the "hot down there" comment doesn't count, that was banter). She was fucking knighted by the Queen of England before she was even 25, hence Sir Integra. Canonically bi-racial and South-Asian. I'm not even going to go into her character's willpower and values but. Hellloooo???
Not to mention, something noteworthy about the series, but Hellsing works because Hirano made time for silly moments. I mean, hell, one of the scenes I remember most vivdly was the gag of Heinkel lighting Sir Integra's cigar and being mega-pissed about it during the final battle, it's funny yet in character, despite many fans saying the humor throws you out of the "reality" of the show.
Oh no, but what do the new fandom gremlins talk about? "Alufart rails Y/A" "OMG VLADCARD'S BARA HAIRY TIDDIES I WANNA RUB MY FACE AGAINST THEM" (you know who you are) “I drew the most fucked up version of Alucard I could think of in my twisted mind”
and my personal "favorite":
"omg 🥺 what if intewa and alucard kisswdd", it's almost as bad as Seras x Alucard.
Unfortunately, I am a part of the ship police, so I'm gonna say right now that these two are my most hated ships:
1) Sir Integra and Alucard's relationship goes beyond romance to me. Since none of the new fans know the lore, Sir Integra is and will die a virgin (canon), it's literally plot relevant because by having sex, if she gets bit she will become a zombie slave (obvious but apparently needed to be said) and, taking a note from the 2001 anime, gone is any chance to continue the Hellsing mission. If she was bitten, plot armor aside, she'd have to off herself instead of becoming a vampire. (and for you freaks out there/pos, dare I say… ace representation? you can argue about desire and subtext later)
2) Seras and Alucard's relationship was specifically noted by the author to be a father/daughter dynamic, which is kind of obvious in the show. Like I said, fundamentally a found family series. Yeah, you don't need to treat found family like family family but I gen can't stand this ship.
I know that people will ship characters who've never been in a room together before. I can't stop people from shipping them and these two ships have ALWAYS been popular in the fandom. I typically ignore this and, yes, "don't like, don't interact" is my main rule. However, new fans ONLY talk about this stuff. None of the rest of the show seems to matter, just Alucard's hairy mustached tig bitties and him fucking one of the two women in the main cast. Or someone's self insert.
((tangent but personally my favorite ships are Alexander x Alucard (obviously in an enemies to enemies way), Heinkel x Yumi, and a romance only Seras x s.Integra. Like, you want old women yuri??? There ya go! They were in a mansion for like 30 years (I forgot) together, probably going missions alone and sharing their grief over Alucard and their unique experience/history. Like I said, I can't help who people ship, I'm not trying to say the source material is in favor of my ships or "how dare people interpret these obviously gay characters as straight". like no, that's not why I'm upset and ik alucard and alexander weren't yaoi-ing it up but like. alucard and s.integra shippers dni /j))
Not to mention, I couldn't help but notice, despite this information being readily available to my middle school self, no one knows the fckn lore or background of this show?? I honest to god saw someone comment that Hellsing Ultimate™ was a bad “remake” because it diverged from the original anime.
Here's SOME fun facts:
-the 2001 version of the show has a different ending than the manga because it wasn't finished yet (duh). Hellsing Ultimate is "soooo short" because production took almost a decade and it was trying to be a faithful, well-animated (that takes time bruv) adaptation. Oh, and a bunch of directional changes that I won't get into.
-there are multiple OVAs following Walter's youth in WW2 (Hellsing: The Dawn). Young Walter's design honestly was one of my favorites from the series so. Walter enjoyers. Check it out.
-there is a bonus book explaining a lot about the characters and process of creating Hellsing written by Hirano himself. whenever I got a hold of it, though (8+ years ago) there was no English translation.
-Alucard didn't just transform into a girl that one time, he was in his girl form the entire time during WW2 (hence why when people mention his possible affair with the Queen it might've been a sapphic thing but I think that mostly stems from the abridged series. the queen thing not the girl thing)
-Hirano used to be a Hentai mangaka and actually designed many of Hellsing's characters in said hentai or in short stories (such as Crossfire, it's basically extra, non-canonical Hellsing content) beforehand. Which, this used to be the most popular "fun fact" but has been lost to the sands of time now, so prepare for a lot of people rediscovering this.
-personal lore is I almost named myself Rip van Winkle bc of this show (quirked up Portal, Grell Sutcliff, queer-coded, rifle-wielding shawty)
Anyway, to sum it up, I hate when people don't interpret characters in the same way I do. Yes, I am a bad “fandom elder”, idgaf I am fundamentally a hater.
*I keep seeing this happen with old shows that resurface. Unlike newer or more popular shows where every scene gets scoured, characters who showed up for one scene get analyzed, and endless cafe AUs are made- older shows mostly get fan art of the main charas and the ships of the two hottest characters and that's it. Discussion of lore and themes are completely off the table. So I'm not surprised, just disappointed.

The Berlin Coterie at a Toreador party
It's been a while since I've posted art on here! XD I've been really busy with things and writing my current devilman fic, but I've finally gotten around to do some art for the Vampire the Masquerade campaign: Berlin Fugue, which is set in 1920s Berlin. The Coterie from left to right, Maddalena Puttanesca, a Puttanesca(Hecata) which part of the Giovanni clan bloodline, Elif Bulut, a Toreador who is the youngest member of the coterie and her sire, Tomas, is the host of the party and she invited her coterie mates to accompany her, Simone Reiher, a Tremere and Nicolaus Everhart, who is a secret Caitiff pretending to be a Brujah. Things at this party have already gotten interesting, for one the party has both Kindred and Kine(the humans who have no idea that they are a vampire party) and Tomas lets his guests decide to choose between eating the mortal food along with their mortal guests or drink a mixture which has some of his vitae (Which would give them a level one bond) in it and would allow them to temporarily have the third level Auspex power of share the senses and they could use it to experience another person's senses. 👀👀👀  Everyone but Simone took the mixture since she has the Tremere bane (before the fall of Vienna) of suffering double of the blood bond level and drinking the mixture would've gotten her up to level two instead of one! And we're discovering a lot of interesting gossip at this party and I'm looking forward to seeing more in the next session when we continue the party :D
Maddalena Puttanesca belongs to @qwib
Elif Bulut belongs to @cthylla-rlyeh
Simone Reiher belongs to @devil-latte
Nicolaus Everhart belongs to me
I was trying something a little different with this piece, I focused more on the inking details and playing with a simpler shading style and I'm pretty happy how it turned out :D

Very disappointed that we didn't see anything of the Small Pox Hag fight, since that was what I was looking forward to most, but still good episode. I really liked the atmosphere. The beginning could have been a scene out of Devilman Crybaby (before Inumaki showed up).
It was really nice to see more of the station. In colour it's much easier to recognize places and it makes it feel a bit more...personal? Like you can go "oh I've been there before!" and then everything gets covered in blood. Double nice because I like the vibe subways have in general. It's one of my favourite liminal spaces. The tight corridors, the stale smell, the fluorescent lights idk, I just really like that.
I should also say that the fight is technically not something I'm that invested in. The choreography is nice and it has great visuals in the manga, but overall it's not something I really think about or looked forward to (because Choso). But they really elevated it here. They took full advantage of the 3D space and camera rotation to make it more immersive. The colours made everything look so clean and surreal, sort of like a synthwave video. So even if I wasn't that interested in their fight, I still had lots of nice stuff to look at that made up for it.
Also, from the manga I got the impression that Piercing Blood is more like a high-pressure water hose and I do prefer that because it makes it look more like actual blood, but the laser-like approach in the episode worked with the neon colours very well.
Most importantly:
Tumblr media
Kechizu looks cute
AND
Tumblr media
We got a close-up of the remaining Death Paintings! Finally. This is the bare minimum I wanted from Gege and MAPPA listened to my plight. Still sad that they get sidelined so much, but at least I can picture them better now. This gives them even a little identity and not just let them be vague blobs in the background ready to be forgotten until Yuuji snacks them. Hopefully, whenever we get around to Yuuji eating them in the manga we see more of them and maybe even learn their personalities through him (since they supposedly live on inside him and might be lending power to him).

I think that chapter 133 was a very interesting one (even more interesting that 132, at least when it comes to character analysis) and demonstrates a lot about both Yoshida and Denji’s characters, their motivations, and how they have (or more specifically, have not) changed since their first meeting in 103 at the diner. There’s certainly some implications about public safety, the chainsaw church/society, and the anti-chainsaw organization, and how each will either hinder or encourage the march towards Nostradamus’s prophecy. A definitive theory on public safety’s role in Nostradamus however requires that what Yoshida truly wants and what relationship he has with public safety is understood and laid out. So I’ll try and start with that.
Yoshida has a lot of intrigue as a character, but this isn’t because he’s acted intentionally mysterious and shady for all of his chapters up to now. I think it’s exactly the opposite. Because even with his shadiness, what he wants and what’s holding him back from getting those things are very clear: he’s lonely, but socially inept, and wants to stop Nostradamus’ prophecy by spilling the least blood possible. Maybe he even wants to be Denji’s friend. This conflicts with what public safety have done so far, and he’s frustrated that his efforts to stop Nostradamus from actualizing aren’t being treated seriously (or are even being foiled). I know some fans are hesitant to jump to Yoshida having such innocent intentions when he’s already done and said a lot of dubious stuff but I really think that’s what he actually wants, and what Fujimoto will do with him.
Yoshida has been repeatedly established by other characters to be a prodigy in devil hunting, the youngest of his kind, even more skilled than Kishibe or Quanxi at that age, and renowned enough to even be hired by Makima herself. Having that level of power and devoting that amount of time to maiming both devils and human at such a young age would predictably inhibit an adolescent’s people skills as he grows into an adult. I think it would be weirder if he wasn’t socially stunted and lonely. The one person besides Denji he appears to speak in a friendlier way to is Kishibe, but an alcoholic devil hunter decades your senior who would prefer to kill devils over talking with you will not be a good conversation partner.
The dialogue he shares with Asa and Denji, also really lonely people, reaffirms this. Even if he has no desire to forge connections with them on the same level that Asa or Denji do with other people, he still has that in common with them. His dialogue is as commiserative, even longing, as it is manipulative.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Viewing his interactions with Denji, Kiga and Asa up to now through the lens that he’s a lonely, and consequently socially inept individual, changes the tone of them dramatically. He isn’t a mastermind villain who is effortlessly manipulating public safety into his palms, and he isn’t a sadistic gay guy that wants to torture Denji and ruin the family that Yoshida himself never had the opportunity to foster. He’s a teenager, the same age as the very people he’s “victimizing”, who doesn’t think students own phones while having one himself, and who likely does want to do his job as seamlessly as possible, with little way to do so when the focus of his job is protecting a devilman more difficult than even he is. Yoshida is a creep, he’s a weirdo, but he’s not the antagonist. I think claiming that is giving his character too much credit.
What he wants is to stop Denji from being Chainsaw Man, likely because Csm plays a major role in Nostradamus coming to fruition.
With this in mind, what Yoshida has done so far in the recent chapters could be seen as either him taking advantage of Public Safety’s/his Organization’s devil policy to hold Nayuta hostage and get Denji to retire, with 132 and 133 being the result of a project headed by him and him alone; him not being associated with public safety at all anymore, with his entire abduction intended to emulate and warn Denji about what public safety will do; or he’s simply following orders.
I prefer to believe an amalgamation of all of these. Him just following orders wouldn’t justify the emotional response he gave in 133, while him just trying to “emulate” or warn about public safety wouldn’t make sense in that public safety isn’t an organization that would easily let a high class devil hunter like Yoshida go. Yoshida has to be associated with public safety, and he has to be emotionally invested in Denji and Nayuta’s safety. He’s coming to Nayuta and Denji, likely as a sort of “Good Cop” character, to deliver public safety’s messages to them.
However, he’s probably also exaggerating greatly. I doubt public safety would immediately jump to killing conquest (a highly valuable member of their arsenal) just because Denji wants to keep being chainsaw man, like what Yoshida seems to be insisting, but he’s also very insistent on the fact that they will. Yoshida clearly differentiated himself from the rest of public safety, so I don’t think he agrees with these terms or what he believes public safety’s hidden intentions are. Maybe Yoshida’s jumped to the conclusion that killing Nayuta will allow for a chance to start over with grooming conquest, and that Public Safety would want to create another Makima in the case that Nostradamus comes to fruition? Because Makima wanted to kill the other horsemen in order to create a “perfect” world, an objective such as this could make sense. This, however, would mean public safety is willing to relinquish control AGAIN to another Makima, which also makes little sense to me. Yoshida being the only guy to outright insist that Denji stop being Chainsaw Man seems to indicate to me that Denji is not one of public safety’s top priorities at the moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, public safety (or the organization that Yoshida is now a part of, if it’s not public safety) is ultimately OK with Denji continuing to be Chainsaw Man, with Yoshida dissenting heavily. This is in spite of the clear political and cultural turmoil his idolatry has caused across Japan and the world at large, and also in spite of the role that Yoshida seems to believe Chainsaw Man will play in Nostradamus. This nonchalance that public safety is giving out in response to Csm’s potential impact on the apocalypse seems very, very careless of them, and I don’t think it’s sincere. I also don’t think that Yoshida’s warnings to Denji about public safety are unfounded, at least in terms of Nayuta’s safety and Denji’s role in the apocalypse. Why they haven’t had anyone else besides Yoshida, this clearly incompetent teenager, come and lay this out for Denji, however, is above me. Maybe they’re prioritizing the political power they derive from Csm over what his existence does to Nostradamus’s prophecy. This wouldn’t be the first time they’ve done something like that.
Speaking of the apocalypse, the public sector’s future plans for either hindering or encouraging Nostradamus’s prophecy can be seen in one particular panel of Yoshida. While a lot of his dialogue is either focused on human loneliness, connection, or the “keep Denji safe” mantra that’s been hammered into his brain by public safety or himself, there’s one conversation that seems to fall sideways against his typical characterization.
Tumblr media
Yoshida asking this is indisputably weird. It conflicts with his previous sympathies about wanting Denji to quit being Chainsaw Man, it reveals he knows about Chainsaw’s ability to erase devils, not even known by Kishibe until recently, and the question in general is a jump from what they were previously talking about. It’s weird. We’re obviously supposed to be focusing on it.
I think anything referencing the 4 horsemen by either Kiga or Yoshida should be assumed to be related to Nostradamus, but in what way Yoshida’s request is related we have yet to see. Would CSM erasing death hold off the apocalypse because people can no longer die, or would it advance it because of the subsequent chaos and overpopulation? “Us” is likely referring to public safety, meaning that they still have usage for Csm even while Yoshida insists Denji should retire. And is Yoshida asking this in public safety’s interests, or in his own?
Yoshida’s dissension from Public Safety’s current trajectory on how to stop Nostradamus’s prophecy (yes Csm vs. no Csm), alongside Kiga appearing to act in an exactly opposite method in turn, indicates that even with the upcoming apocalypse being prophecized, neither parties have a definitive proven way of stopping it. This is sure to produce further conflict, and I’m anticipating whether my thoughts and theories on this chapter will be answered in the coming arcs. Whatever Fujimoto does, he’s sure to do so in a wonderfully Fujimoto-esque way.

Lycoris recoil
Genre: Action
Warnings: Violence/ Blood
You want a ridiculous anime? You got one! (stick with me for this one)
A secret Japanese organisation fights terrorism by training orphaned teenage girls to be unparalleled assassins called Lycoris. The two Lycoris, Chisato and Takina, become partners after a rash decision causes Takina to be kicked out of headquarters. That’s how she meets Chisato, Lycoris prodigy, who is determined to show her there’s more to a Lycoris’ life outside of headquarters.
I know it sounds stupid but I swear you’ll be glad you watched this.
First of all, yes, I’m aware how ridiculous 16 year old assassins that fight terrorism are. I’m also aware this is a fictional work and I can appreciate ridiculousness because Attack on Titan is just as ridiculous if you think about it but it’s just set in a different world so everyone loves AoT.
Second of all, I also know that the reason Chisato is so OP is absolutely stupid but once again. This is an anime that just decides to really go for ridiculous and I’m here for it.
I have watched anime after anime of ridiculous male leads with stupid strong powers where they manage to do the most insane shit and that anime is still considered good *cough*Devilman Crybaby*cough*.
Thing is, the point of this anime is not the Lycoris. It’s not the fighting. It’s Chisato and Takina and the fact that if you add a confession scene, this anime would’ve been the best fucking yuri ever. I will die on this hill, we got queerbaited HARD and you know what? I ate it up. Gimme more. I know those girls are lesbians and they will one day realise they’ve been sitting in a glass closet with no doors.
Moving on from the queerbait tho, while the plot was a bit…. hole-y, I actually found the character writing very good and I’m sure people will disagree with me. But watching Chisato and Takina (even outside the queerbait) I thought that they were two very well rounded characters with interesting personalities and clear ambitions. Plus (and I’m aware the bar is on the floor) but god bless the artists for designing uniforms that made sense and didn’t sexualise them.
Overall I think that this is a great anime. Fight me.
Tumblr media
(I dare you to say they’re not in love)
Thanks for reading another anime ramble! Enjoy watching :)

Hello and thank you for these questions, let's answer:
26)   What other anime/manga do you enjoy?
I enjoy Neon Genesis Evangelion, Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water, Death Note, Ghost in The Shell, Submarine N°6, Cowboy Bebop, Hellsing, Hellsing Ultimate, Shinsekai Yori, Welcome to the NHK, Sailormoon, The Promise Neverland, Shiki, Doraemon, GeGeGe no Kitaro, Keroro Gunsou, Code Geass, Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyou (I just like it's nonsense comical elements, it's nice for a good laugh), Ergo Proxy, Death Parade, Naruto, all works from Go Nagai especially but not limited Devilman and Violence Jack, JoJo, FullMetal Alchemist, Berserk, Soul Eater, Attack on Titan, 17 Sai (it's quite dark and it's based on the real case of the poor Junko Furuta, may her soul rest in peace), all mangas from Suehiro Maruo (careful the themes are quite strong, gruesome, dark and not suitable for everyone hence I discourage to look for it in case ero guro and human degeneracy used as metaphors for society rotten decadence is not for you), all works from Junji Ito, all works from Shintaro Kago especially Princess of the Never Ending Castle, Blood on the Tracks by Shuzo Oshimi, Reptilia and other works by Kazuo Umezu, Panorama of Hell by Hideshi Hino, Saint Seiya, Astro Boy, Kimba the White Lion, and Buddha (all of these last three by Osamu Tezuka), Cyborg Kuro-chan, Hokuto no Ken aka Fist of the North Star, Howl's Moving Castle, Porco Rosso, Spirited Away, Pom Poko, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, My Neighbor Totoro, The Red Turtle (the film is an international co-production between Studio Ghibli and several French companies, including Wild Bunch and Belvision, hence my inclusion in the list) and many others I can't remember now. Sorry for the long list ^^'
36 ) Which Saiyuki character do you think could easily adjust to modern times?
I think Ukoku is the one with the highest adaptability skills combined with his tendency to try new things to keep his innate boredom away is a powerful combo for his success in modern times. Hakkai is another good candidate, he is smart, knowledgeable and can learn new skills easily imho.
58) Name 5 other characters you like along with your fav Saiyuki character.
I won't name them, I will show them:

Thank you for these questions, it was fun to answer them^^

So FF16 is just, like, the absolute worst, turns out?
Many many years ago, I reviewed games for a living. It’s always a weird position to be in because whenever a game has a lot of hype/a big marketing push for it, you simply can’t say anything about it that isn’t glowingly complimentary, or else you’re just going to be facing some pretty serious fury both from the publisher and your own readership. I don’t envy anyone working that gig today, because wow, FF16 is some hot garbage with a lot of marketing behind it.
Before I get into the problems with it, I’m going to have to give a big ol’ content warning, because I’m going to be talking about rape a lot, and just the fact that I have to do that is a lot of the problem here.
There’s other problems to get to here, but we’re gonna start with this big ol’ elephant in the room. Well first I’m going to start by mentioning how much I hate the way people talking about things like this keep using words like “adult” and “mature” because it really isn’t. In just about any context if we’re talking about a story or theme or person as “mature” the implication is that this is something adults who have really been around the block have put a lot of thought in and want to get into in a well-considered realistic fashion, considering all the angles and the perspectives of all the people involved and the greater context and such, but nah when people use it as a metaphor for “there’s blood and nipples” sorta stuff they pretty much always mean it’s a super childish bit of media trying to make teenagers feel grown up or something. Oh and I should clarify, since I phrased things that way, and because the detail helps paint the picture here, that while I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen every sex and rape scene in FF16, there aren’t actually any visible nipples in the ones I have.
Anyway, women get raped in FF16. Now, I’m not going to go and say “hey rape is an absolute taboo subject and should never come up in media” or even in video games specifically. It’s not a concept you should ever be evoking lightly, but if you have something real to say where it’s relevant and you handle things tastefully and maintain a proper tone the whole way through, yeah you can go there. Silent Hill 2 goes there for instance, and I think we’re all collectively OK with how the subject is handled there.
Part of what you need to understand to handle this subject properly though is, you know, a proper understanding of what rape is, and what it says about your story and its setting when it comes up. The main thing you’re saying when you have a rape scene is that the victim is someone who is so powerless relative to their attacker, not just in the sense of being able for them to physically halt the assault, but in the sense of being seen as a lesser to the assailant within society to such a degree that people simply won’t acknowledge the attack even occurred. More often than not, this includes a gigantic dollop of misogyny, maybe also some racism, ableism, age-based discrimination. You don’t play the card unless it’s important to make it clear that people like the victim we’re focused on are getting such an unfair shake in this society that someone without the same stigma can do absolutely anything to them without fear of consequences.
So uh... here’s our most prominent rape victim in FF16.
Tumblr media
No not the helpless guy in the middle there, helplessly clutched in the giant hand. The Godzilla-sized bird monster holding him.Obviously she’s not a giant bird monster during the rape bits, but just being able to summon/turn into a giant bird monster and wield all kinds of super destructive wind magic is pretty fundamentally incompatible with the powerlessness inherent to being a rape victim. At least unless the assailant is an even more powerful Godzilla-sized monster, but that doesn’t tend to come up outside Devilman. Here though, no, this is like, one of a dozen or so powerful special magic people and a big ol’ political power player (and dating another of the Godzilla people at that), who, nevertheless, random hoodlums feel is fair game to sexually assault, kidnap, and sell into sex slavery, and sure enough, when threatened by this her reaction is just kinda to lie on the ground all helpless until a big strong man comes to the rescue.
Now, I might not have all my facts totally straight here, since this game has most definitely earned a hard pass from me, and maybe there’s bits I missed amongst other people streaming it and discussing the plot where oh no, no, the first gang rape bit was before she had any badass magical power or a firmly established position of nobility and the second was a group of people who just do not whatsoever keep up with who’s head of the fantasy CIA and who can turn into a Godzilla or whatever but like... do you understand how little regard you have to have for women, broadly, that someone can have all that going and you’re still thinking “but at the end of the day, she’s still just a helpless pathetic little woman who has to worry about being raped by passing bandits” or whatever? Just... wow.
And there’s a lot more than just that too. I think the only other woman in the game who doesn’t get fridged early on is, ironically, the one who can turn into Shiva, who instead is just this pure innocent girl who can’t deal with all this badass monster fighting and just lets the main character have her cool ice powers after they make out, and you know, slavery is an established thing in the setting. Bird girl here is one of those Seductress types and we’re really playing that up. And even without all of the bigotry and such, the writing is just... really embarassing all around. By their own admission it’s “we watched Game of Thrones and thought it was just the greatest thing” posturing at political intrigue and swearing blue streaks but like... as filtered through a 14 year old’s perspective or something.
Then there’s the actual gameplay, where they very loudly and proudly declared that this isn’t an RPG because somehow this is a Final Fantasy game produced by someone who’s under the impression that fans of the series don’t like RPGs and make fun of them, so instead they wanted to go for more of a Devil May Cry/Bayonetta sort of thing (and brought on the appropriate people). Now, I don’t mind bold genre shakeups, and I love me some Bayonetta, so I’m not opposed to that on principle, but we aren’t actually going all in with it and just making a Platinum style game here. We’ve got this real slow plodding talky game with big grand sweeping animations, with character action stuff crammed in where the turned based combat would normally go, and it’s just... way too slow, uneven, and prone to just going for QTEs to work at all for me as a fan of that genre. Real drop-feed of abilities, too. Not a fan of how the game looks either. It’s just super drab and dull and poorly lit all the way through.
But yeah, mostly it’s the rape thing. And you know, the character action pivot was apparently done because they wanted to reach a broader audience, so like, I dunno, maybe that’s another reason to consider not going there? You’d have to know that’d alienate a TON of potential players, even if it was handled well. And specifically they keep talking about wanting to bring in younger players who didn’t grow up on the turn-based stuff. Yeah kids don’t so much pick up the games with the rape and the stickers in some countries talking about the depiction of hate crimes and sex and such. Big ol’ misfire there.
Anyway, I normally wouldn’t take the time to write a big ol’ post like this bashing a game I could and will just go ahead and not play, but the whole point here is that this dumpster fire of a game is the result of developers with no confidence trying to respond to feedback. And like, I don’t know who the hell they’re getting their feedback from, but between the total shock at how well Bravely Default was received after an earlier instance of convincing themselves people don’t like the sort of games they’ve always made, and thinking THIS is what people want out of this series, I kinda figure we need more feedback out there from anyone other than the RPG-hating rape-enthusiasts they’ve apparently been listening to here.
Also I hate so much that this is actually the SECOND time I’ve had to sit down and write a blog post about not wanting rape in my Final Fantasy games. FF14 pulls this crap too in a couple places. It’s not so front and center with it, and offsets it a bit with most of the world being ruled by women who have their heads on pretty straight and all, but yeah when the protagonist of your game is routinely going around killing gods and heads of state without breaking a sweat, there’s really no excuse for sex slavery to be an institution anywhere in your world for more than like 5 minutes longer than it takes the protagonist to become aware. Not a fan of all the fascist redemption arcs there either.

I..... I want him..... I want.... All of him....
I'm back with another commission for ThemightyNanto and this time its Jun transforming as she is lusting over her imaging of Akira in his Devilman form covered in blood. I really like how in ThemightyNanto's devilman fic Devilman: The Rebirth https://www.deviantart.com/themightynanto/gallery/88903768/devilman-the-rebirth Jun finds herself very attracted to both sides of Akira, his kinder and more human side and his powerful and brutal devilman side and I'm excited to see that conflict in her play out :D
Btw if you like what you see and want a commission drop me a direct message on tumblr, instagram, a note on deviantart or artistree https://artistree.io/missn11

Songs that fit jaha from ROTMD (my opinion)
Darci- on my own slowed
"Maybe I just lost control" THATS SO HIM.
Darci- These Nights
The weekend - call out my name slowed.
Devilman Crybaby Ost- smells blood
Kakegurui ost- Kakegurui.
____________________________________
1. It kinda replicates his destructive martial arts abilities and power and the fact that he had that one look from episode 50 or 49.
2. The weekend is a simp song for me over him.if I'm daydreaming over him then this is my go to song for it.
3. These nights are kinda mellow but its fits him for some reason. Kinda like you wake up to him.
4. It has a menacing vibe to it. My imagination for this ost of kakegurui is jaha masscaring a entire army or clan and other people or clans are just terrified for how strong he is.
5. The beats to on my own are so catchy that it hurts. But the slowed version really represents his character and himself as well.
Tumblr media
This one is the reason why I'm so sure that on my own fits.

Hi friend Ask Box edition!!! While watching your AMV "The Mark," I was really struck by how different the two Akira's are. In the Devilman anime, Akira doesn't fight back much and protects a bunny, (which seems weird to me because the best way to protect a bunny is to let it run away, but maybe that's the point? He's trying, ineffectively, to protect something that doesn't need protection in the way he's offering). In Violence Jack, he's like, ripping people humans apart and reveling in blood. What do you think of Akira's changing relationship to violence? Why does he change so quickly? Is it just Amon's influence? What do you think Nagai-san is saying about the relationship among masculinity, patriarchy, and violence?
For the sake of sanity, let's assume the timeline is Devilman manga -> Devilman Lady + many timeloops until they defeat God -> the divine and the void fic series -> Violence Jack. Thank you!!!!
@badass-at-cuddling Oh yes, Akira goes through quite the transformation when it comes to his relationship with violence when he merges with Amon!
Yeah, in the Devilman The Birth OVA Akira is being over protective of the bunny cause he saw the other two bunnies' dead bodies inside the hutch and isn't wanting the bullies to hurt or kill the last bunny. Its also to show that despite him being a cowardly guy and very conflict avoidant, he is willing to stand up for others when the chips are done, which shows why he is able to overcome Amon's will enough to be in the driver's seat.
Of course that doesn't mean Amon's demoniac nature doesn't affect Akira and Akira's new found enjoyment of violence and fighting comes from that influence. And honestly I think that stays with him even after he's dead in DML's case and reborn in VJ, its just a part of him now. In my hc he and Amon(especially in DML) are almost so merged together that you don't always know where one begins and the other ends.
Its interesting to think what Go Nagai was saying about violence especially from a masculine/patriarchal view, as at first Akira is rewarded for him beating up the bullies by Miki
Tumblr media
And her family are brushing off Akira's sudden change of character as him just being a young man getting out as much fight out of him (Boys being boys and all)
Tumblr media
That's cause the violence he had committed by beating up the bullies wasn't horrifying, it appears heroic cause the bullies had it coming for haressing Akira and Miki, and Akira mostly just bruised them up, no-one was killed. So its easy to brush off any concerns they might have about Akira and that kind low key violence is normal to them.
And they haven't seen how into fighting Akira has become like Ryo has. Ryo has a front row seat to seeing how blood thirsty Akira has become, especially when he's in his devilman form.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Basically being in battle and feeling all of the adrenaline has changed Akira, now he knows what it means to kill someone, he can't go back to being the innocent conflict avoidant boy he used to be. Now he knows how many problems can be solved by violence. And also Akira has come to enjoy the rush of battle that even facing something possibly more powerful than he is excites him. Even after he got defeated and overwhelmed in volume four, knowing that Satan is the top dog (before he knows it was Ryo all along) makes him want to fight them, he's losing himself to the thrill of battle.
The Makimuras have no idea about that side about Akira until Ryo does the broadcast, even though he is killing demons in it, the violence isn't sexy or heroic looking, its just horrific and they are forced to face the same horrors Ryo once(when he still thought he was human) had to witness. and at first, scared, they reject him until he is able to convince that he is still human.
Tumblr media
Which I think that's the point Go Nagai is talking about how war and violence warps people, turning them into the worst version of themselves, much how like fear made the mob rationalize themselves that they were justified in murder two teenagers and a little boy cause a demon once lived in their house. But also how most normal people are okay with violence as long they don't have to deal with the reality of it, its upsetting and scary to see and hear of it.
Like how people can be convinced that launching wars in developing countries are okay if there is a justified reason for it and you don't see the destruction it causes to the civilians of said developing country. But being faced with the reality of war makes those justifications harder to swallow, a reason why the war in Vietnam was so unpopular, the media coverage at the time was the first time normal people got to see how horrifying war truly was.
But back to Akira. By the time Devilman Lady or Violence Jack rolls around, Akira has learned to master himself when it comes to his violence, he still commits it and enjoys himself in battle, more so in VJ, but there is more of a purpose behind it rather than a desire for fighting.
In Devilman Lady, Akira fights to protect Jun and then fights alongside Satan to take down the Devilman verse God, the biggest oppressor of the Devilman verse(and Demon Lord Dante verse)
In Violence Jack, Akira/Jack fights the murderous gangs and the Slum King so the people of Kanto can see that they can stand up to their oppressors and fight back, and also cause he wants to free Ryo/Satan from his self-hatred. Of course, though he is embodiment of Chaos and Death, so he might enjoy his job a little too much XDD thought thankfully all those he kills are horrible bastards who are in need of a good stabbing.
So basically Akira/Jack is the hero/inspiration the Hellish place Kanto has become needs not wants, the world is rough and cruel and it needs someone just as rough but nicer to the innocent to help solve it! XD
Phew, that was a long one, I hope I've explained myself well enough, but this question gave me a lot to think about. So thanks :D

Note
what are your fave ship dynamics :D
I was actually thinking a lot about this but I think I will just answer with whatever comes to mind in the spot
Older brother x little sister Older sister x little brother Sister x sister Twincest of any kind I'm also a little fond of Daughter x Mother but only when the Daughter is the active part who's actively going after the mother same thing with Son x Mother
I love brats x tamers so much just as a general
More broad dynamics would be
Whenever there's a sorta special animal if that makes any sense like foxes or such in anime and somebody adopts them and then it turns out they are actually a shapeshifter
I also like if it's really just a millennial creature or eldritch monstrosity/god tentacles creature those are my monsterfucker tendencies
Self sacrificial idiots who keep getting hurt for each other
Rivals who are only rivals not enemies childhood friends who are rivals
Enemies to lovers childhood friends to rivals to enemies to lovers just all those dynamics lol in any order as well
Any Morticia x Gomez Addams sorta dynamic lol
Sun x moon sorta dynamics red x blue as well whenever one protects the other a lot
I really like closed off powerful woman who doesn't really know how to express her emotions x boy who's incredibly in love with her and willing to show it at any moment as long as she doesn't mind
Also just closed off girl who doesn't know how to be honest about her feelings at all x partner who knows her perfectly well and forces her to express her true feelings
Idk if you know devilman crybaby but basically any dynamic that's like ryo x Akira
I do enjoy younger girls with older women even without a blood or legal relationship but I only enjoy it if they really love or want each other and all the same if the younger part is the more active one
This is something rather specific I suppose but whenever an older/inmortal woman finds a little boy and she takes care of him until she's grown up
And I also love poly relationships my guilty pleasure is harems though mostly I only enjoy it if the center of the harem really loves all the members and they all really respect each other but I also really enjoy just wholesome multiple partners
I do enjoy older men manipulating younger girls but not like as something I would ship just as something I would like to examine in media so not really a ship dynamic but I don't mind if the dynamic has erotic/romantic undertones to it
