It's the end of the year which means it's finally time for the ML Big Bang's yearly fic rec lists! We're really excited to bring you our contributors' favourite fics from this year to supply you with plenty of reading material while you're waiting for the Big Bang fics' publication in January.
Asking the important questions by @ultrakart 1,397 words, General, 1/1 chapter
After having returned home from Shanghai, Marinette and Chat Noir have some important questions for each other.
"Platonic Marichat shenanigans, resoundingly reminiscent of canon in the absolute best way."
final girl by @picayunearts 41,310 words, Teen, 10/10 chapters
Marinette has ninety-nine problems, and the superhero trio of Paris counts for a hundred. [AU where Marinette follows through on giving up her earrings after Stoneheart, but becomes the Guardian to protect her replacement.]
"This one floored me. Characterization is on point. I love the premise of Marinette giving up the miraculous and being guardian. Wonderfully executed in my opinion. And the writing. THE WRITING. :chefskiss:"
"Another amazing au. I love the take on "Marinette gives up on being Ladybug" and teh way it's written is chef's kiss."
Everything's Not Fine by @flightfoot 976 words, Teen, 1/1 chapter
"Why’s mother down here? What- what is this?” “Still committing to the bit?” Gabriel snorted. “Really now, I thought you were smarter than that. Adrien was compelled to obey the order Nathalie gave via his amok - you would not have been.” “My WHAT?!” -------------- After the events of Risk, Adrien makes his way down to his father's secret lair. Gabriel catches him. Unfortunately, he cares even less about Felix than he does about Adrien.
"An alternative follow-up to 'Strike Back' that packs twist after twist after twist into a very short space, leaving you a little breathless as you read it and sorry that it didn't happen this way in the show."
The Dating App by leadernovaandthemacabre 14,960 words, Teen, 1/1 chapter
Chat Noir and Marinette cross paths on Paris’ newest dating app and keep crossing paths until secrets slip. - [MDC]: why are you here [OfficialChatNoir]: we matched! shall we go out for sweethearts ice cream? [MDC]: i’m blocking you [OfficialChatNoir]: wait wait marinette wait *[MDC] has blocked you*
"I loved the bonding between these too and how naturally everything flowed and how open they became with each other and aaaaa"
NSFW works
Patient is the night by @mostlymoony 72,243 words, Mature, 31/31 chapters
Beware the Cat Knight, he demands a price For this fallen prince, gold shall not suffice Fear the Cat Knight, as he trades life for life Cry pretty girls, for the cat needs a wife. When Marinette's small farming town is attacked by Hawkmoth's army of night creatures, Marinette rides for the dread Butterfly Castle, seeking aid from the mysterious Black Cat Knight and his band of masked fighters. She's determined to save her town, even if that means handing herself over to a strange man with wild, green eyes and a penchant for cat-related puns. There will be smut, and this is my first time writing smut. I'm so sorry.
"Such a good gothic romance/fairy tale vibe to it and I just found the plot/progression very enjoyable. The magic and world building is unique and vague enough to make it important but not overwhelming. They also made some great artwork for it!"
Pink Really is Your Color by @inkmousey 2,811 words, Explicit, 1/1 chapter
Marinette really hates that dumb Cat. Until he's pressing her against a wall and making her forget Adrien Agreste ever existed.
"It's amazing!!! So very amazing and it has a great dynamic that's great for Marichat!"
I’d Never Forget About You by @inkmousey 3,400 words, Explicit, 1/1 chapter
Adrien thinks everyone forgot about him on his birthday, and by everyone— he means the only person who ever remembers it anyway, Marinette.
"MariBlanc is such an interesting pairing and the fic handles them so amazingly!!!"

2022 animated movies ranking
I’ve seen all the animated movies that I wanted to see this year, so here’s my official 2022 ranking.
Lightyear: The more I think about this film, the more plot holes I notice and the more I dislike it. It just feels like such a hollow and near lifeless movie that just completely misses imo. From the plot conveniences/lazy writing and predictable plot, to the worldbuilding that either comes off as minimalist or confusing, to the shallow characters- I just feel no connection at all. I like Sox and Izzy alright, but I reaaaally don’t like Mo. I get he’s supposed to be the Screw-Up of the team who gets better, but he just so annoying. Buzz is also really annoying and not charismatic whatsoever. The twist villain is so stupid, and you can tell that they cared more about the ~symbolism~/theme than the actual character/story regarding the twist. So much of this movie is just dull and frustrating with all it’s missed potential, and I have no desire to watch it again. 4/10
My Father’s Dragon: it’s a cute enough modern fairy tale with really great animation, music and voice acting. I really like the lesson of the story, and I like the small subversions that kept things interesting. The dragon was a bit annoying, but it was still a fun enough experience. 6/10
Wendell & Wild: really cool concept with some interesting characters and good social commentary. Really great soundtrack and absolutely stellar animation. I just wish the story was more fleshed out and the pacing was better, as the third act really does feel rushed, which kinda messes with an otherwise emotional ending. 6.5/10
Turning Red: it’s your average pixar movie tbh. I like the chemistry between the four girls, and I can appreciate the story that the movie is trying to tell/themes it’s trying to focus on. It does a lot of things well enough and there’s nothing I hate, there’s just nothing im super in love with either. I’m glad it exists, it’s just not completely my cup of tea. 6.5/10
Strange World: much better than I was expecting, ngl. The worldbuilding was really interesting, and I ended up getting fairly invested in the movie’s characters and relationships, which weren’t nearly as annoying or cliche as I thought they’d be. I just wish that the dialogue could’ve been more natural in some parts, as there were some exposition and conversation scenes that felt kiiiiinda forced. Some of the jokes are kinda lame too, but it’s never TOO bad thankfully. It’s a cool enough adventure with genuine heart that, again, plays better and hits harder than the lame trailers would make you believe. Also, NO TWIST VILLAIN!! Hallelujah. 7.5/10
DC League of Super Pets: as a DC fan, I can definitely appreciate all the little Easter eggs and poking fun at DC itself. Very hilarious movie when it wants to be. Characters and story was really cute, action was good, I like Supes and Lois just being together with there not being any relationship drama, and Ace’s backstory actually hit me a bit harder than I thought it would. However, the story was pretty predictable, most of the side characters weren’t super fleshed out, and I can’t listen to Lex Luthor in this movie without hearing Mr. Snake, lol. I came for cute pets and superhero shenanigans, and I got what I wanted. 7.5/10
The Bob’s Burgers Movie: definitely a movie made for the fans. Some really great characters moments, even if some beats feel familiar, but man the 3rd act gets DARK. Lots of excitement, good music, really good jokes, fantastic animation and just so much else to enjoy. 8/10
Dragon ball Super Hero: it may be your typical DBZ fare, but it’s still a lot of fun. I love the adorable dynamic between Pan and Piccolo, there’s a ton of awesome action, and I really like the new characters introduced in the film. Zeno Robinson’s VA performance is a highlight, and the film is just a really entertaining time that manages to remain interesting even when the 3rd act just turns into an extended action scene. I’m not a mega-huge DBZ fan, but I like it well enough. I also thought the ending stinger was hilarious, lol. 8/10
Minions 2 the Rise of Gru: my guilty pleasure movie of the year because I’m a sucker for the found family trope. I really like the relationship between Gru and Wild Knuckles, the minions are just as funny and cute as ever, the action is a ton of fun, and despite it being spoiled in the trailers the 3rd act is a real highlight. Lil Gru is adorable, and I just enjoy him being a mischievous and super endearing scrunko (idk if I’m using that word right :P). Sometimes I just need something silly and fun, and this movie hits that itch just right. 8/10
Sonic the Hedgehog 2: This movie absoLUTELY lived up to the first film! All the Sonic stuff was really cool and fun, the wedding stuff was hilarious, I loved all the focus on friendship/family and coming together, the action was really great, and it made me laugh just as much as the first film. It’s the type of movie that makes you feel like a kid again ^v^ Super Sonic is still an amazing scene to watch, and the ending is adorableeee. My only criticism is that sometimes the pacing can feel just a teeeeeny bit off and I wish there was a bit more focus on Tales. Kinda sucks he gets knocked unconscious for like 15mins. Can’t wait for the 3rd movie, I REALLY want Omar Benson Miller (Raph from RotTMNT) to voice Shadow. 8.5/10
Rise of the TMNT Movie: while I agree that the s2 finale was a better conclusion, I thought the movie was still really good. I’m able to forgive some so-so writing and lack of series references just because the emotional moments hit That Hard. The action and animation is as stellar as its always been, I really like Casey Jr., and while it sucks that he got Kraangified for most of the movie, Raph was the highlight of the film for me in that his VA (as well as the VA for the main Kraang) just went SO HARD, their voice acting was so freaking good. Also this movie let Mikey be a mystic badass and I’m happy about that because he deserves it. It does kinda suck that so much of the movie is focused on Leo, and that some bits like Don merging with the Kraang ship were kinda rushed through. Not a perfect film by any means, but there’s enough good to overshadow the bad for me (even if I’m getting reaaaaally tired of all the Leo angst that this movie inspired :/) 8.5/10
Puss in boots 2 - the last wish: HOLY CRAP THIS MOVIE WAS SPECTACULAR!! The animation, lighting and action was just an incredible visual spectacle. The movie also hit me super hard both in terms of how much it made me laugh (there is a LOT of dark humor, omfg) and how much it just hit me right in the feels. (Redacted) AKA the Wolf was one of my favorite parts of the movie. Speaking of which, the themes in this film were really strong, which in turn made Puss’ character arc SO GOOD! The characters in general just all worked off each other well, you fall in love with the main trio so easily and I love that both Dreamworks films this year had a total bastard as the villain. Honestly, it reminded me a lot of the first Shrek film in that there was a ton there for both kids and adults to really enjoy/take a lot away from. My only complaint is a fairly minor one, in that I thought the 1st act was just a bit slow going, though I completely understand why it was paced the way it was. Also, once this movie gets going, IT GETS GOING. 9/10
The Bad Guys: I’m gonna fully admit that I’m probably biased, given my love of found family AND heist movies. But idc, I freaking LOVE THIS MOVIE!! I love the characters and their dynamics, I love the story and themes, I love the great animation and action, I love the humor, I love the emotional beats, I love the music (Good Tonight is SUCH a bop), the twist at the end with Snake’s double-cross was AMAZING - I really could just go on and on. I’ve already watched this movie 3-4 times, and I will happily watch it again ^v^ it’s just a ton of fun, I love it so much. I guess technically PiB is the better movie, but I connect to Bad Guys and it’s characters more, so Bad Guys is my fave of the year ^v^ 9/10

okay so i say this as someone who loves twilight so much and has been a fan pretty much since the series was originally released: have you read any other contemporary vampire romances that actually live up to twilight’s potential? i mean twilight has so many great themes it never follows through on (the cullens backstories and the general lore, the dark “uncontrollable” side if vampirism, the issues of agency and morality etc etc), do you have any recs for vampire novels that actually deal with these themes well?
I haven’t really.  Every vampire book, movie or TV show never gets it exactly how I want it, which I suppose means I have to eventually write that I want myself. The nerve.
The vampire thing I was super into before Twilight was the short-lived CBS show Moonlight, and while there were definitely things about that lore and world-building that bugged me too, I was obsessed with it. It only lasted for one season and I can’t say that it was like, good, but it was enjoyable? Like with Twilight, I wasn’t personally invested in the central romance (come to think of it was kind of a love triangle although it was signaled so clearly that the two leads would end up together that the third person in the triangle was more of an afterthought) and the main character whined a bit too much about being a vampire, especially since the lore of this world is not that bad. Sunlight can kill them but only in large doses--perfectly fine to walk to and from your car or whatever, you might just feel a little uncomfy/ill. He had a way of getting human blood from contacts in the morgue, so no killing. He can sleep (in a freezer, but . . .). He has a best vampire friend. Thirst isn’t described in the painful, suffering way it is in Twilight (until BD when I guess Bella’s not in constant pain abstaining from human blood). So when he complained about what a monster he was and how he hated himself I rolled my eyes, just like with Edward, but Edward almost felt more justified because Twilight vampirism is ‘worse’ imo and also he’s 17 and this guy is 30.
That sounds like I hated it but I was so obsessed with it. But again, it’s like with Twilight--it’s not about whether it’s “good” or whether I “like” it, it’s about me being interested in it. It was compelling even if kind of cheesy. And it ended after only one season and that season was mucked up by the writer’s strike so it has a similar feel of “there’s POTENTIAL here that wasn’t realized” like with Twilight.
For books I’ve found some of the most compelling stuff in short stories. There was one about a vampire photographer. He had a human wife and he wasn’t the Dracula, monster-y type of vampire, just kind of the “vampires live among us” type but he was haunted by the desire to take a photo of the sunrise and that’s what the story was about and it remember it being really lovely and sad. I can’t remember the author or which anthology it was in but someday when I have time at work (librarian!) I’ll try to track it down again.
That’s what I want from vampires romance. I want it bittersweet. Mostly tragic and sad, with a little bit of hope and love to take the edge off. Twilight seemed to offer that until BD pulled the rug out and was like: NOPE this is a fairy tale romance and/or a superhero origin story!

Things That Got Me Through 2020: A Long List Of Random Recommendations
Hi! 2020 was awful but throughout it I found a lot of amazing things to get me through it. So just in case things get tough some times in 2021, here’s some wonderful distractions, amazing stories, and things that I just loved in general. Hope you enjoy any that you give a try! Also, I always love new suggestions if anyone has any!
BOOKS (Or actually just one book because I did not read nearly as much as I though I did)
- The Martian By Andy Weir (Sounds like it would be really depressing, actually one of the funniest books I’ve ever read! Can’t recommend more.)
WEBCOMICS (What a great year to discover WebToons I tell you)
- Lore Olympus By Rachel Smythe (Worth the hype in my opinion!)
- Let’s Play By Mongie (I enjoyed this much more than I could’ve imagined, my romance loving self squealed when reading certain parts.)
- SubZero By JunePurr (Amazing balance between romance and plot.)
- The Remarried Empress By Alphatart/Sumpul (Reads like a soap-opera, main character is my favorite type of female protagonist, smart, confident, and not ashamed of it, love interest is adorably infatuated and I live for it.)
- In the Bleak Midwinter; By Kat/Ali (I got sucked into this one. The world building is great, the world itself is so interest and I loved the premise.)
ANIMATED SHOWS (20 minute episodes came in clutch this year with my short attention span due to anxiety)
- The Dragon Prince (If you like animated series at all, you’ll like this I think.)
- RWBY (Season 1 is good, Seasons 2-3 are pretty great, 4-5 were not my favorites by any means, 6 is pretty good, Season 7 was sooo good!)
- Ever After High (Thanks @raesofmoonlight for the recommendation! Possibly the best character design I’ve ever seen. Watch it if you can!)
- Avatar: The Last Airbender (Zuko alone is worth watching the show, add in all the others, the world building, the humor, the writing, just watch it already if you haven’t yet.)
- DC Superhero Girls (Sometimes I think about this show’s version of Bruce Wayne and start cracking up.)
LIVE ACTION SHOWS (I’ve been so caught up in animated shows since March I forgot I watched some really good live action ones till right now)
- Galavant (A medieval musical. Pretty short episodes, hilariously silly, my favorite way to lose twenty minutes of my life at a time. If you’re not sold yet, how about this: They started the second season by singing a song about how they didn’t think they’d get a second season.)
- Anne With An E (Gilbert Blythe owns my heart and soul and wow the show is so much better than the typical teen dramas. Love the historical aspect too!)
- Jane The Virgin (I got so attach to this show’s character my goodness. Top tier writing I think.)
- The Umbrella Academy (This show is so freaking addicting. It’s never what I expect it to be and I love that. I love the music, I love the action scenes, I love the characters. Watching the second season now, wow the characters make you feel for them. )
MOVIES (I’ve never watched so many movies as I did this year so here are my favorites, although half are DC animated ones so sorry if that’s not your thing)
- The Martian (One of the best book to movie adaptations I’ve ever seen, Matt Damon was the perfect person to play Mark Watney. )
- The Entire DC Animated Movie Universe (My favorites are Justice League: War, Son of Batman, Batman v.s. Robin, Justice Leagus v.s. Teen Titans, Reign Of The Supermen, Justice League: Dark Apokolips War but I think it’s worth just watching them all in order. The characters are all so great. Most of them have amazing team dynamics.)
- Batman: Under The Red Hood (If you like Batman, you’ll probably like this movie or maybe you’ll hate how emotional it makes you either way.)
- Miss Americana (This is the Taylor Swift documentary. I actually just discovered how much I love her music and I found this to be super fascinating in showcasing how the media portrays female entertainers.)
MUSIC (I have this horrible feat or people judging my musical taste so if you do please do it silently)
- Taylor Swift (This year has really just been non-stop Taylor Swift for me. Her albums Folklore and Evermore in particular helped me come to terms and cope with 2020 as a whole.)
- Hamilton: An American Musical (I’m not even going to bother to sell this one, there’s no need to.)
- The Little Mermaid: The Musical (I like fairy tales okay and Alan Menken is a musical genius and I will fight anyone who’s says otherwise.)
YOUTUBE (This definitely needed it’s own category)
- Philip DeFranco (I got really overwhelmed with all the news this year so most days I decided to just watch his twenty minute show everyday and it really helped. Just a good way to keep up to date without getting overwhelmed.)
- Technoblade (Okay, real talk: MCYT took over my life since I discovered it in August. I could make a whole separate list of all my favorite minecraft youtubers but I decided to just put my favorite, the Blood God himself. You might consider it a sign of the times that my family and I watched The Potato War saga on the television on Thanksgiving. Highly recommend his whole Hypixel Skyblock series or just his Skywars Solos or everything he does actually.)
- BuzzFeed Unsolved (Great way to get a good laugh in and also learn about creepy cold cases and also aliens. The two host, Shane and Ryan are the best. Ghost in general are fun.)
- Tingting ASMR (Shoot! I almost forgot! A large portion of my sleep last year was due to this woman. I’m not really one for ASMR myself, I don’t really love whispering in general but I really love her approach and I find it super calming!)
Okay! I think that’s it. I hope some of these things bring some of you joy or peace. Please give me any suggestions you have. I am always open to recommendations. Happy New Year everyone!

Just like this
Tumblr media
Art/Sauron/Cyrusk all belong to @clockworkreapers!!!
This story is a fusion of two songs to try and get a good mix of both of the characters personalities.  Saurons song was ‘One last time’ by Jaymes Young and Cy’s song is ‘just like this’ by the chainsmokers/coldplay
This is my half of an art trade with one of the best artists I have the honor of calling a friend and I hope that I’ve done them, and her, justice with this story.
PLEASE NOTE Sauron is a MUTE character and is thinking all of his parts. As such I have them in ITALLICS  to help discern their parts of a conversation
please enjoy~ and Thank you so much to Clock once again for allowing me the honor of writing about these lovable dorks!!!!!
((minor spelling errors now corrected))
Two shadows could be seen passing through the abandoned part of the old town, soft whispers heard as one seems to be reading the other's thoughts. The darkness didn’t bother the two males, in fact it was comfortable for the two as they worked themselves into a long forgotten  apartment building. With the comfortable closeness they had, even with the muted troll carrying a couple bags of goodies they had a good clip to their pace. “Come on Sauron, we're almost to the top'' The leader said softly, a chuckle in his throat as his rust companion rolled his eyes.
Yea yea I know we are Cy. We've come up here how many times now? Sauron thought to his companion, smiling a bit as Cyrusk laughed at him. “I know I know. And you know how much I love coming up here!” He hummed in return, opening the door to the roof and taking a deep breath as he stepped back out into the cold night air.
The two were now far above the abandoned streets of the ghost town and able to really see the stars that twinkled in the sky above them. Sauron gave a soft sigh and closed his eyes for a moment before moving over and settling himself on the edge of the roof  with his feet hanging off the edge.  This feels nice. A good breeze, no neons blinding us to the stars… “No one to bother us as we just watch the sky till daylight” Cyrusk finished for his mate, a sweet smile on his lips. The rust blood looked up and let an unfamiliar quirk of a smile to grace its way over his features.
You know, Ive been reading a lot of old books in my spare time recently. All about the old legends and myths like that of Achilles and his gold and Heracles and the gifts he received  “yea? I personally would rather read about Spider-Man’s control and Batman training with his lusus” Cy rambled in response, making a few joking jabs at Sauron's shoulder with a happy smile. The rust just rolled his eyes and let out a silent little sigh.
Cyrusk was about the only person he ever smiled for nowadays, and in all honesty that’s sort of how Sauron liked it. He hated to really show his soft side to those around him and Cy? Cy was a special case that was just for him. A special person that he could properly trust with his red quadrant.
Of course I’ll never see myself on any lists like this, My caste doesn't really show up in the history books after all  Sauron thought to the other, shaking his head and jumping a bit as Cyrusk reached out and  carefully cupped his lover’s  cheek. “Hey…..Where do you want to go?” he asked, leaving the mute completely flabbergasted  what?
“Where do you want to go Sauron. How much do you really want to risk?” he continued to ask, his eye  lidding half way as he offered a sadly sweet smile. “Because I’m not really looking for anyone with superhero gifts. No superhero. Just us” he said sweetly, Sauron tilting his head and offering a small pout in return
No blissful fairy-tale?.....Because in all honesty I don't want that either….I just want someone I can turn to when I’m depressed again and…..someone I can kiss when I’m feeling happy.. Cyrusk smiled and nodded, leaning in to press a soft little kiss to Sauron’s head. “I want something exactly like that Mr. Yetzar” he chuckled, getting a raspy little groan as the rust rolled his eyes, and honestly his head as well at the sappy little piece of sass beside him.
They sat there and Cy eventually got Sauron to smile again with his shenanigans, the two of them drinking and smoking through the next few hours as the sun began to rise. With it being a weekend for them, the couple had planned on just staying in the abandoned apartments to wait out the burning rays of their world’s sun. Cyrusk managed to pass out long before his lover and it allowed Sauron to relax a bit….not have to guard himself and worry about what thoughts were running through his mind that could have accidentally been ‘seen’ by Cy’s ability.
The rust sighed and sat up from the pallet they had managed to set up so he could turn his eyes over to the window that was covered up with black curtains to block out the light of day. You know Cy...I’m fading… and it's much, much too fast for me… God, I could drop off the face of the planet right now and… Cy’s voice rang in his head from earlier  “I want something just like this Sauron. Just the two of us here on this rooftop. Nothing special, just us and a couple good drinks”
I’m fading much too fast for you...you deserve so much more than my love. The rust looked back to his lover and took a chance to reach out and lightly caress the bronze blood’s cheek with a sad little smile. I’m waiting for it to pass… When I’m with you I don't feel like I'm about to fade away into nothingness, that I'm going to just slip away. He admitted to himself. The heat of Sauron’s fingers caused Cyrusk to groan softly and shift to his side, prompting Sauron to finally lay back down against his lover. These days were always so long, always full of sleeplessness for the rust….but with the warmth of another beside him that he trusted he was able to fall into a mostly restful sleep.
*********************************
“You know Sauron, last night's conversation kinda niggled at the back of my mind all night…. And it reminds me that I read a few older comics recently you know?” Cyrusk hummed as the two of them were settled right back on the rooftop with a fresh bag of drinks and snacks. “ and even though they were just comics you could really recognize the testaments they told and what legends and myths they actually followed” he rambled, Sauron rolling his eyes a bit and taking a deep drag of his cigarette as he continued to listen.
“They went through this one arc where the moon was eclipsing and superman had to fully unroll a costume to change into instead of just having it ready under his normal suit! It was so interesting to see that differential!” he hummed, eyes turning up to their moons with a smile. You know I'm not the kind of person who really reads comics right? Cyrusk sighed and shook his head a bit with a pout “you realize that I don't care about that right? We ramble back and forth and that’s just our way of showing our love right?” he asked, head tilting to the side lightly as he reached out to move some hair out of Sauron’s face.
The rust was spooked a bit at the sudden hand in his face but relaxed a bit as he turned a tired little look to the other. He took a deep breath and put out the end of his cigarette before pulling his legs back off the ledge of the roof and facing the bronze with an oddly forward motion of reaching out to cup Cy’s cheek
Cyrusk....we only have one more night before I have to leave on an assignment for a while…..Can I just….feel your skin against mine for the day?..... Before I have to say goodbye? He asked curiously, a tilt to his head Or just…. I don't know…. I feel like I can't breathe tonight. I want to breathe one last time, I want to be able to feel your breath  against my skin, share your breath again…..before I have to go on my assignment. Cyrusk just listened in confusion before melting at his matesprit’s words. He leaned into the touch and kissed Sauron's palm with a sweet smile “of course…..Where do you wanna go for this? Do you want to lay down and cuddle? Do you want to take a risk and go on a joyride with a busted drone?” he asked, trying to offer Sauron something that wasn't just wallowing in the despair and anxiety he could see settling in his love's eyes. “You know I'm not looking for anyone with special gifts or a high position in life so even if we just sit here it’s all I could ever ask for” he hummed, shifting over to press his thigh to the rust’s gently.
“You don't have to make our lives some kind of fairy-tale, you just need to stay here and stay alive so I have someone to turn to… and someone I can miss when they’re out on assignments” Cy chuckled softly, leaning in and pressing a kiss to Sauron’s cheek gently as the rust wrapped his arms around the others waist in a tight hug.
I feel like my world’s been losing its light Cy… “well then let it loose light. I’ll be here with a flashlight and a candle for when the batteries die” he hummed, pulling Sauron in for a tight hug “I want to stay just like this…..”
*********************************
The day had passed once more, leaving the two with precious few hours to spend together like this. Sauron woke up first of course, not really having been able to sleep through the day and just listening to Cyrusk snoring seemed to help the day before. He sighed and closed his eyes as he allowed himself to have a moment of peace. His arms wrapped around the bronze as he buried his face in that fluff of hair that always seemed to hide that eye that he loved to see.
I have to leave soon…..pack my bags and get on the train....this is a cold, cruel world we live in huh Cy?  He thought to himself, sighing and staring off at the far wall as he just let himself sit in the relative silence of their embrace.
“Hey Sauron? Where’d you wanna go if we could just risk it all and leave right here and now?”
Sauron turned his eyes down to Cy’s sleeping face and smiled a bit to himself as he listened to his memories. No pleading could turn back time for us to redo this weekend….. I’m glad I spent it with you Cyrusk… You mean the world to me, even if I don't tell you or show you as often as you deserve. You tell me you aren’t looking for someone that has super powers or a lot of money but…. I do want to at least bring your life a bit of joy from time to time
Sauron hadn't noticed Cyrusk waking up, having zoned out as he thought and got settled with his chin on the other’s head again. The bronze smiled a bit and nuzzled up into Sauron's touch, accidentally causing the rust to jump and pulling a sleepy little chuckle out of the bronze’s chest. “You don't gotta be so dour…. You just gotta be someone I can turn back to and kiss when ‘m happy” he hummed softly, Sauron smiling sadly.
Good evening Cyrusk….. He thought in return, honestly happy to just be there for once. Cy….is it ok that I can feel your skin against mine? He asked softly, head tilting lightly as the bronze in his arms stretched a bit he got a nod in return and relaxed again with a rumbly little hum in his chest that wouldn't really have a sound anymore. I’m safe….I have someone to kiss before I have to say goodbye again….. I can breathe again tonight…..as long as I have you in my arms I can always pull through and breathe so much easier than if i was on my own he thought to the other, getting a sweet smile in return
“And you know what? I want nothing more than this right here. I want you to be right here, happy, safe, and feeling like you are free as a bird” he hummed sweetly, the alarms on Sauron’s phone starting to go off to warn them of their time together dwindling. The rust glared at his phone as though it had told him he was unlovable and reached over to smack the screen so it would shut up.
“Hey Sauron?.....Can we share one last cig before you go?...give you a chance to calm down again before the walk home?” he asked softly, sitting up with a soft groan and another stretch to pop his back. Sauron nodded and stretched out now that his lover was sitting up instead of being curled into a singular position against his chest.
Yea…. I’d enjoy one last chance to take a deep breath of you so I don't curl up and die on the ride to the next town over. Cy frowned “How about lets don't? I’d like you to come back so I can hug you and tell you how much I missed you while you were gone!” he huffed, poking his love in the side and getting an almost squeak out of the lanky male.  Sauron pouted and glared at the other with a huff as he sat up and crossed his legs before getting a good look at his lover and giving a small little smile. You know what Cy….My world might be losing light but….I think it’s just so you can burn a little brighter…..
 I love you

Of Rocks and Robots Ch. 7 - Stories
Tumblr media
Varian sat in the spacious den surrounded by piles and piles of books; comic books to be specific. Today was the last day of spring break and Varian was visiting Fred. All of their other friends were busy preparing for tomorrow, but Fred didn’t go to any of the actual classes. He only worked part-time as the school’s mascot, so he had the day free and wanted to teach Varian more about his hobby.
Varian, for his part, was simply bored. He had agreed to meet with Fred since he had spent so much of the last week studying and wanted a break before starting classes for real, but the pages of illustrated stories, about people with god-like powers, just didn’t really interest him.
It made him feel a little guilty really. Fred was so passionate about his interest, much like how Varian enjoyed science, and Varian appreciated that the older teen cared enough to try and include him in that. However, it didn’t stop him from zoning out while Fred rambled on about yet another story or character that Varian had no reference for.
He looked about the room with half-lidded eyes as he rested his face upon his fist. Fred lived in a large mansion. It wasn’t quite as big as Corona’s palace, nor even the size of the castle he grew up in, but it was still very grand and luxurious. Various memorabilia and expensive décor were scattered about and the room he was in now had tons of unique statues, toys, and posters on display referencing various things within pop culture. He assumed they would make for an impressive collection, if he knew what any of them actually were.
“….and so that is how Captain Fancy teamed up with the Fearless Ferret!"
Varian tuned back in just in time to hear Fred conclude his story.
"Oh, yeah, yeah, that’s real interesting” Varian yawned and stretched as he said this, giving away his true feelings on the matter. Then he tried to course correct as soon as he did so.
“Look, Fred, this is all…great, but wouldn't it be better if I just, you know, actually read the stories for myself?” He gently suggested.
“Oh, yeah…I guess I kind of got carried away.” Fred admitted sheepishly. “Ok, then, what did you think about the comics that you’ve read already?” He sat down, facing backwards, upon a swivel office chair as he referred to the two comics that he had bought for Varian on his first day in San Fansokyo.
“They were fine.” Varian said.
Fred leaned in closer, waiting for more but Varian didn’t elaborate.
“Fine? Just fine? You don’t got anything else to add?”
Varian could only shrug in response. He didn’t know what else to say. They were okay stories but not anything to get excited over. They were certainly no Flynn Rider, that was for sure.
“Well what about Miracle Maiden? What did you think of her?"
That was one of the superheroes from the comic he had read. She was a princess from the deep Amazon rain-forest who took an ancient magic spear and armor and traveled from her home to fight against those that wanted to destroy it, helping others along the way.
"Well, she was neat, I guess.” Varian admitted. “I liked how she was also figuring out how the world worked since she’d never left home before. That made her kind of relatable, I just didn’t care for the magic armor giving her super strength. It made her too unbeatable, no one was a real threat; there was no tension."
Fred tilted his head in confusion. He’d never considered that to be a flaw. Superheroes were supposed to be well, super, after all.
"Oookay, so maybe OP golden age style comics aren’t your thing.” Fred consented, “What about the dark aged comic you read, ‘The Avenger’?"
"Oh, I liked that one a lot better. The hero in that had to really struggle and figure stuff out. He didn’t have any powers and the villains were more believable."
"I’d call him more of an anti-hero,” Fred interrupted, “but go on."
The story in question concerned an ex-soldier whose family had been murdered by a rich and powerful man. The villain had used his influence to escape prison and so 'The Avenger’, as he called himself, sought vengeance and along the way helped other poor exploited people get their own revenge against similar oppressors.
"He was relatable too, but in a different way. I just thought the pictures were a little too…graphic.” Varian grimaced as he said that last word. He had always disliked the sight of blood and while the images in the book had only been drawings, they nevertheless were still very in-your-face with the violence and somewhat disturbing to look at. He hadn’t been able to get through the comic without skipping some pages.
“You found a guy, who kills a whole bunch of people, relatable?” Fred asked slowly, trying to piece together what Varian had seen that he had not.
“Well, he lost his family.” Varian said in his defense.
“Yeeeah, but that just makes him sympathetic. In order for him to be relatable you’d also have to have lost … your… ” Fred paused in mid-sentence and looked at the young boy sitting across from himself. Varian held an unreadable expression, something between a pout and a confused glare, and something inside Fred warned him not to continue with that thought.
“Aaaannyways,” Fred said, trying to change the subject, “you like non-super powered heroes, but no gore, so why don’t I lend you one of my Fearless Ferret comics.” And with that the blonde teen hopped up off the chair and went scrounging about the room in search of said book.
As he was throwing various comics and toys around in his quest, Fred tossed a small hardback novel that landed right at Varian’s feet. He had to move them out the way quickly before the flying object could do any harm. He looked down at the offending book rudely, but then his breath caught in his throat at what he saw.
The novel was battered and worn from years of use and the title read The Brothers Grimm on the side. But what caught Varian’s attention was the cover on its front. It bore the image of a girl in a crumbling tower. She sat at the only window forlornly looking out as her long golden hair tumbled down to the ground below.
“Rapunzel.” Varian breathed.
“What?” Fred stopped what he was doing at the sound, but Varian had whispered too low for him to hear it clearly.
“What is this?” Varian asked frantically. His heart pounding in his chest he held up the book for Fred to see.
“Oh that? That’s just an old book of fairy tales I read as a kid."
"Fairy tales?"
"Yeah, you know, old folk tales, like Little Red Riding Hood, Rumpelstiltskin, Hansel and Gretel,” Fred turned back to his original search as he absentmindedly listed off the stories he knew, “The Bremen Town Musicians, Rapunzel, that sort of thing."
Varian’s eyes went wide at that last title and he tore open the book and desperately flipped through its pages until he found the accursed name. It was printed in big bold letters at the top of the page and underneath was the story itself printed in smaller type. On the opposite page was another illustration. This one featured the titled character using her hair like a rope as a man used it to scale the tower. They were both dressed in clothing from centuries past that would have been considered old fashioned even in Varian’s own time.
Tumblr media
Varian just stared at the page for a minute or two as his brain tried to comprehend what he was seeing.
"This, this can’t be.” He whispered to himself, “How is this here? Why is this here?” He grew increasingly louder as his confusion gave away to anger. “How come she gets a story!? "
He jumped up from the couch he was sitting upon as he yelled this last question, which finally drew Fred’s attention away from his rummaging.
"You ok dude?"
"No, I’m not okay! That no-good, lying, boil-brained, misbegotten, dizzy-eyed, promise breaker has been immortalized in print!” He yelled before glancing back down at the book he was holding, “And they didn’t even get the story right!” He whined after.
Fred could only look on in confusion as Varian launched into another rant. This one about the inaccuracies within the folk tale as he sped read through the story; “Where’s the flower? Where are the rocks? Ha! I wish the King knew he was portrayed as a dirty thief. Eugene’s not a prince! Ew, I don’t why but having your eyes gouged out sounds worse than getting stabbed. Does Rapunzel not have powers in this?”
As he was busy loudly complaining, a viewing screen up on the opposite wall turned on and the image of an old man appeared. He had slicked backed white hair, a white mustache, and his eyes were covered by sunglasses.
“Is everything alright son?” The man queried. “I thought I heard the sound of someone shouting an evil monologue over the surveillance system?"
"Oh hey, Dad!” Fred turned to address the viewing screen while Varian continued on, heedless of who was listening or not, “It’s okay. It’s just my new friend Varian here is apparently really passionate about fairy tales."
"Really? Cause he sounds like a super-villain to me.”
“Aww naw, you got it all wrong he’s just upset cause he doesn’t like the story.” As if to prove this, Fred turned back to Varian interrupting him mid-rant. “Hey, Varian, why do you hate Rapunzel so much?"
Varian stopped and turned to them. His eyes narrowed into an intense glare and his voice dropped to low guttural growl.
"She is my mortal enemy.” He said darkly.
He held their gaze for a moment or two in uneasy silence, before once again noticing yet another inaccuracy upon the page. “Oh, that’s not right!” and he launched into a new wave of angry ranting.
As he went on, outraged, father and son could only look on in perturbed confusion.
“Are you sure he’s not a super-villain?” Mr. Fredrickson asked, neither of them being able to tear their eyes away from the sight of the small raged filled teen.
“Preeety sure…” his son replied in a tone of voice that conveyed that he was anything but.
Fred continued to watch Varian raving as his brain tried to process what had just happened.
“Waaait a minute, if you know the real Rapunzel, then that must mean you’re from a world of fairy tales.” He slowly said as he pieced together the clues. “Which means there must be magic and if there’s magic then there must be..” Fred audibly gasped with joy and ran to Varian, grabbing the younger boy by the shoulders and snapping him out of mid-rant.
“Do you have dragons in your world!? "
Varian could only look back at Fred with surprise at first. "What? No!” he snapped back.
Here he was, in the middle of having an existential crisis, and all his friend could do was ask about mythical creatures?
“There’s no such thing as dragons.” He firmly added before Fred could protest. The older teen looked crestfallen but soon perked back up as he started in on a new line of questioning.
“But there is magic, right?"
"Unfortunately, yes.” Varian said through gritted teeth.
“Are you magic then?” Fred asked, as he circled around Varian and picked up his arm by its sleeve and inspected the length of it.
“No.” Varian answered, now disturbed.
“Then how come you got that blue streak in your hair? Do all people from your world have that?"
Varian looked up at his bangs and then quickly covered said streak with his free hand. "No.” He said, this time less assured.
In truth he didn’t know where his defining blue hair stripe came from. He had had it for as long as he could remember, and had always assumed he got it in an alchemy accident when young. But he didn’t know for sure, and he didn’t like to dwell too much on the subject.
“Oh do you know anyone who has magic, then? Like, do you know any other fairy tale people, like Red Riding Hood or Mother Goose? Oh Jack from Jack and the Beanstalk was always one of my favorites!” Fred pressed on.
“No!"
Fred backed away at the sudden ferociously in Varian’s voice.
"My life’s not a fairy tale Fred!” Varian added just to drive the point home.
“Sorry, man.” Fred said timidly. He hadn’t meant to upset the younger teen, but he knew he could sometimes get carried away.
Varian’s anger all but disappeared at that admission. Fred looked genuinely upset and he suddenly felt guilty for his outburst. It wasn’t his new friend’s fault for not knowing what hell his life had been for the last two years.
“Look, I’m…I’m sorry too, it’s just…I hate magic. Okay?” He tried to explain.
Fred looked thoughtful at that, as if he had never considered that point of view before.
“Well, if you hate magic…Oh I bet you would love science fiction then!” He exclaimed.
Varian looked bewildered at the sudden change in subject, but Fred continued on excitedly.
“We should watch the greatest sci-fi show ever!” Fred ran over to a shelf and pulled off a small thin case and held it up for Varian to see, “Professor What!"
"What?” Varian asked, still confused.
“Exactly! It’s about a mysterious professor, who’s really a shape-shifting alien, who has a time machine that’s also a spaceship and he fights other aliens and…”
“Okay, okay” Varian interrupted. He agreed to go along with Fred’s idea if nothing else than to stop the older teen from launching into yet another confusing ramble.
Fred flashed Varian a wide grin at that and then bid his father goodbye before opening the case and inserting a small shiny disc into the viewer screen. He then dimmed the lights and both he and Varian settled down on the couch to watch the video.
“We’ll just watch the first episode and then go from there.” He said to Varian as odd sounding music filtered through the air and the opening titles flashed before them on the screen. But Varian wasn’t paying much attention.
His mind raced as he was still agitated by the existence of the book. He couldn’t explain it. It wasn’t even a case of being an alternate version of Rapunzel herself. Fred had acted like the whole story was simply just made up. As if he, himself, was nothing but fiction. What’s more the story hadn't mention him, his father, nor the rocks and he didn’t know if this made the situation better or worse.
He took a steadying breath and tried to focus on the screen ahead of him, shoving any uncomfortable questions to the back of his mind.
The tv show was more of the moving pictures he had seen on the internet. Only this looked to be a recording of a staged play instead of the simple funny shorts of animals that he had only seen thus far. There was also no color, which Fred explained was because the film was so old.
The story of the play concerned two school teachers, Cliff and Lola, who followed their new mysterious student home one day, only to stumble upon a bigger mystery. The student, Sue, reminded him of himself. She was super smart but ignorant of what was, to the teachers, common knowledge and it was no surprise when it was revealed that both she and her equally mysterious grandfather, the titular Professor, were from another world. What was a surprise was the way they traveled.
The two teachers forced their way into a small box, no bigger than a magician’s cabinet, only to find a larger room on the inside. Said box was called a phone booth, which used to be used by people before cell phones came about, but the inside was called a STARDIS, a Space, Time, And Relative Dimensions Imperial Ship.
“You mean to tell me that a thing that looks like a phone booth, sitting in the middle of a scrapheap, can travel anywhere through time and space?” He heard the science teacher, Cliff, say incredulously before the impish Professor mischievously pressed a button on the console of the machine, locking the doors and turning the ship on.
A swirl of stars and flashing lights appeared on screen, and like a magic trick, the box was no longer in a junkyard but an icy desert. A looming shadow then appeared and the screen cut to black as the odd music from before started to play and names flew up on the screen.
“What, what happened? Why did it stop?” Varian asked Fred. He was just starting to get interested when it had ended.
“Oh that was only the first episode, you gotta watch multiple in order to get the whole story."
"You mean like chapters in a book? Can, can we watch the next one?"
"You mean you like it?” Fred asked delightedly.
“Well I don’t dislike it, besides I’d at least like to know what that shadow was.” Varian admitted.
So they watched the next three parts. The group of time travelers had been transported to an ancient era, back when man still lived in caves. They were captured by a tribe and forced to make fire for them, all the while being caught in the middle of an ongoing power struggle for leadership. Varian didn’t find the politics of the cavemen particularly interesting but he did find himself on the edge of his seat whenever the STARDIS crew were on screen.
He found them all compelling. The shifty Professor and his grey morals, doing whatever he could to survive and keep his granddaughter safe; Sue’s own fear of being separated from her only family and her mysterious ability for premonitions; Lola’s homesickness and exasperation at being cut off from civilization paired with her compassion for all living beings, even her oppressors; and the noble hero Cliff holding the team together while adhering to science and logic even while having his entire world view challenged.
In the last part they finally escaped the violent cavemen and made it back to the ship. They quickly took off, only to land on another planet entirely. The screen hovered over the console and a dial on the dashboard dropped down into the danger zone indicating all was not well before once again cutting to black and playing the ending credits.
“Welp, that’s it!” Fred cheered. He stood up and stretched and went to take the disc out and put it up.
“That’s it!?” Varian asked disbelievingly. “But what about that new planet and the dial? Do Cliff and Lola ever get home? How was Sue able to sense that her grandfather was in trouble? Also why is he only called the Professor? Does he not have a name? Where did he get the ship? Did he build it? Is he a scientist too like Cliff is?” The questions tumbled out of him in a jumble. He had never seen anything like it before and couldn’t remember being so excited to find out more since the time he read his first Flynn Rider book.
Fred laughed, “So you do like it! Don’t worry there’s more episodes, just that’s the end of that particular serial. The next one is a seven parter though, and you got school tomorrow, remember?"
Varian did remember and his stomach did a little flip flop at the thought.
"I tell you what though,” Fred continued, “I’ve always wanted to do a marathon of the whole show in order. If you’re still interested we could maybe meet up sometimes and watch it together?"
Varian had never had a project that he could do with a friend before, nor someone to share his love of stories with, so the idea appealed to him. Therefore it was agreed; sometime next week they would meet up to watch the next serial and then possibly one day every week after that to watch the rest.
So the day ended with Fred dropping Varian back off at the dorms and with him organizing his things for his first day of school. His excitement for tomorrow drove  away any more thoughts of comics, tv shows, or fairy tales. Stories were fun, but none compared to the weirdness of his actual life.

Wedding Bells
Caerwyn bounced on the toes of her stockinged feet, unable to stay still as she walked the length of her bedroom and back again, steps muffled by the carpet. She wrung her hands together, peeking up at the blue, cat shaped clock on her bedside table, the hands drifting silently across the face of it. She hated ticking clocks, the noise drove her batty, so this one had been a blessing when her parents had found it for her when she’d been about six. They could have simply gone with a digital one, but Caerwyn liked the classic look of the numbers and hands, in this case, each minute increment was marked by a tiny paw print and the numbers white on top of black cat head silhouettes. It was super cute, making her smile in that way girls who liked cute things did when they saw them. Most wouldn’t have pinned Caerwyn for liking adorable things like that, but she did. She supposed the only people who knew were her family and Rose, though, Louis may have picked up on it by now considering her usual go-to purse was shaped like a bunny.
“Winnie, I swear to fucking god...” Cleo, the girl’s sister spoke up from where she laid on her bed. The pair couldn’t have been any more different from one another. Caerwyn’s hair was inky and her body shapely while Cleo’s hair was light and she was skinny. At the moment, Cleo was on her stomach, knees bent, legs swaying as her ankles crossed and she perused whatever magazine she was currently interested in. She was on spring break from her school was well, but it wouldn’t have mattered either way considering she went to one of the local high schools and lived at home throughout the year instead of boarding like Caerwyn did. She had actually been quite excited to see Caerwyn when the girl had gotten off the train, showing it with the way she grabbed at her sister’s hand and dragged her along to the car without a single word. The past winter break had been the first they’d ever really spent apart and while they didn’t get along on a regular basis, Christmas time had always been a very important thing for their family. Not having one of them home had been kind of a big deal actually.
Carnegie had been even more thrilled to have Caerwyn home, clinging onto her the moment she walked through the door and refusing to leave her side even at bedtime for the first couple of days. She’d let him sleep in her bed, curled up against her stomach, a little warm package of heat. She loved it, his blond hair smelling still of newness and baby shampoo, his fingers slightly sticky in that way all little kids seemed to be. He was five now, having had his birthday a couple months back and he had even more to talk about now than ever. He’d jabbered on about everything under the sun. His favorite toys, his friends and teachers at school, all of the new things he was learning, and showing off how he could read simple worded books now.
As far as Caerwyn’s parents went though, things were still… strained to say the least. She was happy to see them, to have their loving arms around her and hear her dad’s dry jokes, but there was still that lingering sensation of worry underneath. The discussion they had had over the winter break was still fresh in her mind, but they had promised her that it wouldn’t be a subject they talked about this time. They would simply enjoy the holiday together. Both of her parents had been a bit on edge though, when Caerwyn told them she’d been invited to attend Victoire’s wedding. They knew who Victoire was, the nurse at the school Caerwyn attended, but she was also the cousin of their daughter’s best friend, Rose. Caerwyn had, conveniently, left out the information that she was actually going as a date for Victoire’s little brother, who also happened to be her boyfriend. She had thought it better to tell them it was Rose who had invited her along, easier to get them to agree that way. It had taken a bit of convincing, but her parents had finally conceded into letting Caerwyn spend the remainder of the break with the Weasleys.
“They’ll be along fucking soon.” Caerwyn shot back, but she flopped down anyway, sitting on the window seat between the two large built in bookcases. The bedroom was split evenly in two, everything matching, picked out by a mother who didn’t want her daughters fighting. Whites, light yellows, and laces decorated most of the room. White satin bed covers dotted with little silk roses sat upon the twin beds, curtains of tulle hanging down over the curved, white headboards, fairy lights intertwined into them. A bench sat at the foot of each bed, serving as both seating and storage, matching nightstands and lamps beside the beds. The walls were decorated with yellow wallpaper dotted with a small, pretty floral print. Each of the girls had taken over their own side though, adding their own touches to create a kind of drastic separation. Caerwyn’s bed boasted more throw blankets and her wall décor consisted of several of her own paintings and a limited amount of photos displaying friends and family. Her half of the bookcases was filled with old school texts, empty potion bottles, broken quills, and fairy tales. Cleo’s side of the room was nearly bursting in comparison. Posters, photos, a cork board and sticky notes plastered the walls. Clothes were scattered here and there on the floor and her bookcase held more girly items, like perfume, jewelry displays and magazines. There was still a faded bit and sticky residue on the carpet from the long piece of duct tape they had run across the floor years ago to make sure the other stayed on their side.
“You’ve got at least another hour.” Cleo chided, sitting up on the bed and tossing her magazine down in frustration. She stared at Caerwyn, eyeing her up and down. The way she kept tugging at the front of her baggy sweater, how she’d put on a pair of thigh highs instead of her usual tights, though, one wouldn’t be able to tell under her dress, and the little bit of make-up she’d used to accentuate her eyes and lips. She had even taken time to really brush out her hair, sitting down and running through it over and over again until she was certain all the knots were gone. “So, are you going to tell me who the boy is or not?”
“What boy?” Caerwyn asked, glancing up from where she had started picking at her finger nails. They were clean, the blue polish upon them fresh, but she swore she could still feel some dirt underneath them. She followed Cleo’s gaze to the newer photos by above her bed. The ones Louis’s aunt had taken on Christmas. She had kept the ones of just her and Louis hidden away in her things, but she’d hung up several of her, Louis, Rose, and Albus that she hadn’t noticed being taken on Christmas Eve. She didn’t look too terrible in them, with her hair all pulled back prettily and in the outfit Fleur had helped her pick out. She was particularly fond of the one where she was turned, drinking from a glass as Rose spoke to her and Louis was sat beside her, looking down at her as he tugged a loose bit of confetti from the Christmas crackers from her hair.
“The redhead.” Cleo pointed, her eyebrows raised in question. It wasn’t the first time she had asked, nor would it be the last. The answer was the same though, as it always was.
“None of your goddamn fucking business.” Caerwyn shot back, pushing up from the window seat. She snatched her duffle bag from the floor where it had been stuffed with the things she’d brought home from school, but also things she would need while she was staying with the Weasleys.  She dug through it, double checking the contents. Extra pajamas, her clothes for the wedding, a toothbrush… Last time she’d shown up with nothing but the clothes on her back, a book, her cat, and Louis’s Christmas gift. This time she was prepared. She already had Manson’s wicker carrier by the front door, his favorite cushy blanket inside of it for when it was time to go.
Cleo was, unfortunately right about the time. It took an hour and then a little bit before the doorbell was ringing through the house. Little feet scampered, slapping across the wooden floor of the downstairs portion of the house as Carnegie raced for the door. He loved answering it, though, there was usually always someone coming right behind him in case he didn’t know the person there, which was rarely. He reached up with both of his small hands, grabbing hold of the knob and twisting it, tugging the big white door open, a giant smile on his little face. The little boy was dressed in nothing more than a pair of overalls and a red towel tied around his neck as a cape. He’d refused a shirt that morning, saying superheros didn’t need them.
“Creoso!” The little boy stepped back from the door, his bare arms spread wide, eyes closed for a moment as he greeted the three teenagers standing on the front porch. He finally looked up at them, his head tilting back in wonder as his eyes moved up, and up, and up. The redheaded girl wasn’t too tall, but both of the boys standing behind her were quite a lot bigger than anyone Carnegie was used to seeing on a regular basis. He gaped for a moment before turning his little head and calling over his shoulder. “Mama! Da! Mae ffrindiau Winnie yma!”
“Ydw, ydw, Carnegie.” A woman’s voice called back. Her heels clicked against the floor as she appeared in the front room, her brown hair falling in curls around her shoulders as she stopped behind her son, placing her hands on his shoulders. “Hello there. How do you do? You must be Rosie and... I don’t believe Winnie mentioned your names. Come in, come in.”
“You fucking bitch!” A scuffling from above sounded as both Caerwyn and Cleo made for the door of their room. There was a small battle of pushing and shoving, the door banging against the wall as they both tried to get through it first. Cleo won as she tripped her sister, using her thinner frame to squeeze through. Caerwyn was right on her heels though, both of them using the corner of the banister to turn rapidly on the landing before they were heading down the stairs. Cleo skidded to a hault beside her mother, her hair pulled back into it’s usual messy bun on top of her head. She stared at the three strangers and then laughed, pointing with a victorious ‘ha!’ at the sight of Louis. The boy from the photo. He’d come along with Rose to get her sister, as well as a dark haired fellow.
“Rhosynie!” Caerwyn called brightly as she finally hit the bottom of the stairs. She laughed, reaching out to snatch at her best mate, hugging her tightly as Carnegie moved to close the door behind her friends. He took a few steps, his tiny hand reaching up to tug at Louis’s much bigger one, gazing up at him with big blue eyes.
“Ai chi yw'r dyn talaf ar y blaned?” The five-year-old asked curiously.
“Nac ydw, Carnie. Yw'r dyn talaf dw i.” A man’s voice filted into the living room as he came out of the kitchen, wiping his hands on a tea towel. Carnegie laughed, releasing Louis’s hand to race to his father, arms outstretched so he could be scooped up properly.
“Albus!” Caerwyn grinned, hugging him as well before she released him and stepped back a bit. Her eyes fell on Louis and she stared up at him, a small smile pressing at her lips, cheeks a bit pink at the sight of him. God, she’d missed him so much. It had only been a week away. She sighed, closing the distance between them more rapidly than she had with the other two. Her arms came up around his waist, face burying against his chest as she breathed him in. Fuck, he smelt so good. “Fuckface.”
*Welcome! Mama, Winnie’s friends are here.
*Yes, yes.
*Are you the tallest man on the planet?
“No, Carnie. I’m the tallest man.

Hello! I'm Slothie!! Nice to meet you.
I just got into the MCU about a year and a half ago. I thought I hated superhero movies, but after watching Guardians 1 + 2, I decided to watch Infinity War to learn more about the big baddy Thanos. From there I fell in love with Spidey, Ironman, Pepperony, and Black Widow. Turns out I was wrong and I actually really love superhero movies.
(Infinity War isn't the greatest place to start in hindsight, but at least it gave me an idea of what characters I'd be interested in.)
Now Marvel - and Spider-Man - is one of my hyper fixations. I saw End-Game and Far From Home opening night, spend way too much money on spider-man merch, have a mostly Avengers themed wardrobe, and spend my spare time writing/reading Irondad fanfiction. I also went to Ace Comic Con in 2019 and got a photo op + autograph from Tom Holland. <3
Favorite MCU Parings: Pepperony, Stucky, Spideychelle
Favorite Fanfiction Tropes: Homeless Peter, Sickfic Peter, Autistic Peter, Trans Peter, Drunk Peter Parker, High Peter Parker, Omorashi, Bedwetting, Puberty Talks, Irondad, Peppermom, Any Peter with a Disability, Bi Ironman, Soulmate AU's
Currently Working On: ❤ Focusing on Spideychelle Week - Stay Tuned!!
Other Chapter Progress: ❤ Rocketman - Alternate Ending - Not Starked ❤ Learning to Fly - Chapter 4 - Outlining ❤ Peter Barker - Part 1 - Sent to Editor
Spideychelle Week - June 21-27 ❤ Road Trip - Outlined ❤ Soulmate AU - Not Started ❤ Fairy Tale Retelling - Outlined ❤ Meeting After High School - Outlined ❤ Roommates - Looking for Editor ❤ Enemies to Lovers - Not Started ❤ Only One Bed - Outlined

You do a lot of really amazing gender bents and want of the nail AU? What genres or tropes do like the most (even if you don't write them) and which ones bore you?
It’s probably very obvious I like arranged marriage as a trope mostly bc I like the idea of having to sort of adapt two personalities so they can actually get along. Obviously most of the arranged marriages I write tend to work out bc we want to root for the main couple, even if they start off loathing each other.
But in general in the ASOIAF setting I think it’s a very common trope that can be done either really well or really badly. I dislike reading it when the couple hates each other and only get along when they’re having sex, or when the ‘turning point’ is them becoming attracted to each other, instead of respecting or empathizing with one another. In general I like fiction that shows the real work and compromise that goes into a relationship. It can’t all be smut and fluff and I don’t care how hot the characters are if their personalities are pretty shit and they constantly demean each other.
I’m really only interested in gender bent AUs for a series like ASOIAF which has a world with such strict gender norms. It’s not that interesting to me in the context of most other fandoms.
I like enemies to friends to lovers, I like comic relief in the right dosage... I love characters like Dana and say... Samwise Gamgee who are very blunt about how they are just ordinary people but who are just as capable of doing great things because they are humble and kind and brave. I like it when fics show the ‘every day lives’ of people and I love, love world building, especially stuff like religion and art and folk stories. I like sibling relationships where no one says ‘big brother!’ unless they’re trying to be funny. What siblings do you know that address each other in that way in total seriousness. I like writing families sticking together even when they disagree. I like writing teens acting like teens and being stupid.
I love most horror tropes and I like dark fairy tale stuff without it being too over the top and edgy. I enjoy superhero tropes and sci fi when it’s very small scale and kind of gritty- less galaxy wide war games and more normal people living in abnormal (to us) conditions. Sexual tension is best written imo when both people are ‘in on it’, not when one is sort of creepily lusting after the other from afar. I love western type settings bc I think cowboys are cool and I like horses. I enjoy most post apocalyptic settings unless it’s just one gruesome despair horizon after another. I like people exploring abandoned places and found families.
I like platonic male female friendships without one person having to say ‘she’s like a sister!’ over and over again. I like tropes that allow men to be affectionate and show emotions beyond anger or jealousy.
Tropes I usually hate: I can’t stand the trope where one sister is considered weak and fragile and ‘delicate’ and the other is ‘cold and hardened’. I hate most tropes that involve women fighting over a man. I hate it when characters do shitty things to minor characters and then it’s never acknowledged again. I dislike tropes where the mother is portrayed as this hysterical nag and the father is a well intentioned dope.
And I hate it when the main characters have no friends beyond their significant other. I dislike it when callousness and apathy is portrayed as ideal and ‘the real world’. I dislike it when the villain is always hyper competent and the heroes just have to rely on pure luck. I hate it when women are written solely to think about Insert Man and how much Insert Man has changed them for the better. I hate literally any scene where it’s the wedding night and the man goes on this condescending lecture about how he’s going to ‘educate’ the heroine as to her own sexuality and ‘teach her how to enjoy sex’. It’s not cute, it’s patronizing.

Okay Now Do The Rest
4. how did your elementary school teachers describe you?
Bright but argumentative. I was never afraid of pointing out things I didn’t feel were fair hfhddh
When we were learning numbers kids would often write 91 for nineteen, just flip them, y’know, and Ms. Potter yelled at the class for it. Baby Generiq went into it about how it was an understandable mix up because you do say the number first. In twenty-three you write the two first, so in nineteen it’s easy to assume you would write the nine first.
6. pastel, boho, tomboy, preppy, goth, grunge, formal or sportswear?
Tired.

TV shows. Every book adaptation should also be a series not a movie. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Fanfic meme (or my opinions about some fanfic tropes)
Thanks to @flo-nelja, I lost like one hour and half to do this post, you know my weakness for long ass meme. ❤️ on you, it was pretty entertaining.
So...let’s go
1. Slowburn or Love at First Sight: I’m never satisfied with the slow burn I read (or write, for what it's worth). Theorically I prefer slow burn, but it’s never slow enough, or BURN enough. I mean, for me, the slow burn involves some pining/longing, like they are accointances, then friends, then PINING/LONGING happens, then lovers. Probably the reason I love one sided love, because the feelings have time to grow, there is the pining/longing, with a pinch of angst ?
aNyWaY I love a Love at first sight too, I don’t like it in rom-com, because it’s often without any background, but in fanfic, when you know the characters, you have implicitely the background, so it feels like fate they will be together, because you went to read this fic for your OTP, so it feels right they fall in love at first sight, because you know they are good together (even if they don’t know it yet in the fanfiction). Again, it’s the reason I love soulmate au.
Tumblr media
2. Fake Dating or Secretly Dating: It’s the last one I answered because it needs lof of thinking. Fake or secretly dating ? Hmmmm. I’m not often interested by the “dating” part, and more in the “feelings realization” and all the “confession part”. So Fake dating, I guess ? Like, they start dating and fall in love after ? And it can be funny, like quiproquo and clumsiness ?
Tumblr media
3. Enemies to Lovers or Best Friends to Lovers: love shipping rivals and antagonistic relationships
4. “Oh no, there’s Only One Bed” or Long Distance Correspondence: I’m a pure victorian bitch
5. Hurt/Comfort or Amnesia
6. Fantasy AU or Modern AU
7. Mutual Pining or Domestic Bliss: Domestic is boring to me
8. Smut or Fluff: Not a big fan of fluff. I like some cheesy tropes (like Love at First Sight) but I’m tired really quick of fluff, so it needs to be a fic with other elements. And not tooth-rooting fluff.
9. Canon-Compliant/Missing Scenes or Fix-It
10. Alternate Universe or Future Fic: love the AUs. ALL THE FUCKING SUPER WEIRD AUs !!!
11. One Shot or Multi-chapter: It’s very rare a fic manages to stay good (like , interesting and/or coherent with the canon) during a long time, so if the fanfic is 34 chapters, for me, it’s a repellant, because it probably means the chapters are meaningless or the author loses themselves in their universe and forgot totally the canon. In my opinion, a good fanfic (I mean, ideally) has like 3 or 4 chapters, 1000 words at least for each one. So, I love one shot, it’s less risky to be disappointed.
Tumblr media
12. Kid Fic or Road trip Fic: I deeply hate kid fic, omg, I hate it with my guts, for me it’s the incarnation of the patriarcal and heterocentric injonctions
13. Reincarnation or Character Death: Again, I hate character death (I mean, major character death - except if it’s canon ?)
14. Arranged Marriage or Accidental Marriage or NEITHER: Hmmmmm I didn’t read a lot of “accidental marriage”. I’m not really fan of “arranged marriage” neither.
In fact, I recently read a Reddie fanfic (1000 nights), it was in Las Vegas, Richie and Eddie were...plastered and Eddie pushed Richie in the chapel of a casino and they got married by a drag queen priest. Does it still count like an Accidental Marriage ? Because it was pretty funny.
Tumblr media
15. High School Romance or Middle-Aged Romance: I feel so old when I read High School Romance fanfiction lol but even when I was 16 I didn’t like it. I like the characters in their own age, so SOMETIMES they are in high school but...hmmm it’s rare I read fanfiction taking place IN a school, it feels weird and more, it feels boring, because school is almost the same for everyone, I mean it’s a totes cliché genre. Also I don’t really like to imagine these fantasy characters becoming boring teenagers with boring occupations, sorry not sorry (but it’s the same with College AU, guys, I will kill someone if I see another art student pining for the annoying fratboy)
(I still read highschool BL mangas btw)
Tumblr media
16. Time Travel or Isolated Together: Time travel give me headache. OH GOD I HAVE ONE RIGHT NOW !
17. Neighbours or Roommates
18. Sci Fi AU or Magic AU: aaaah a good supernatural au, like vampire au, werewolves au, demon/angel au, fairy tale au, hpverse au, incubus au or any other ideas. I love how it’s creative, I love how it can be super original, I love the potential in these idea, because magic AUs are very rich in themes, you can play on the medieval fantasy genre, the urban fantasy, the alternative timeline or the past (like victorian vampire AU 👌)
Tumblr media
19. Body swap or Gender change: I don’t like Gender change anymore because first, gender is a spectrum, these fanfics are about binary genders, it’s a little bit cringy (but it’s not the real factor I don’t like it), second, (the real reason), it’s often male characters becoming female, and it often to make it “femslash”, so the femslash tags are FULL of gender bending stuffs about male characters, and not actual real femslash with the female characters, it...erases femslash and even if I’m not a reader of femslash, I think it’s sad, because it deserves its own space in the fandom, not everything has to be about the male characters (even the ones I love a lot).
You can say it’s more a choice driven by my opinions and not my preferences, but it’s kinda the same thing isn’t it ?
Tumblr media
20. Angst or Crack: Dude, it’s not a hard choice because I don’t really like crack in fanfic. I like it in fanarts, but you take more times to read a fanfic, and I don’t like crack during a long time. Crack is more a thing you enjoy quickly, it’s something who make you smile for a second then you scroll (or share it if it’s really funny or inventive). But crack in fanfic, it’s like a too long joke.
I don’t talk about crack ships, because crack ships can be interesting. Sometimes, I don’t see WHY you ship it (like Gavin x RK900 in Detroit: become human, or Lestrade x Mycroft in Sherlock BBC), sometimes I TOTALLY see it, but it still fun to see the explanations to put them together, the meta, the fan theories...
In the other hand, about angst...I like the drama, I like the horror genre (if you know my blog, you know I’m currently in the IT fandom, you know, the eating-kids clown thing), I like tears and blood, but...when it’s too much, it’s too much. I don’t like...I don’t know explain it : sometimes, you feel like the author had to get out some dark things they feel, it’s therapeutic for them but you feel kinda uneasy to read it, because it’s so DARK, man, it’s not even about the canon, it’s all about the writer’s feelings, and really, it’s okay, myself, I happen to cope like that. But as a reader, I don’t like it.
So I like some angst, when i’m in the mood, but it needs to have positive things in it too. Or to be short.
Tumblr media
21. Apocalyptic or Mundane: At first, I chose Mundane, but now I ask myself. I like the post apo genre, but I don’t like angst too much, like I said in the previous question.. But I still like it a little so...hmmmm it’s tricky. What is meaning mundane, by the way ? Mundane Lord of the Rings fanfiction, what is it ? What is MUNDANE in kids learning to fight with their quirks in a superheroes school ?
I will chose Apocalyptic because I love a good survival (and they have to cuddle to stay warm and save each other and cry by thinking the other is dead but in fact they are not and find a way to cure the zombie plague/find a safe place/kill the aliens XD)
Tumblr media
Now, the tagging part (sorry if you were tagged by someone else, and of course feel free to ignore it if you are not interested : @calimera62, @wilwywaylan aaaaand....I don’t know fucking people on this hellsite anymore. Maybe @sleeping-potatoe ?

`’ Concept: Russian Fairytales ’`
Indeed, Barnes and Romanoff do have some strange habits. Like baking a dozen of pancakes on first week of March[1] or doing cross gestures with their hands with saying weird stuff that sounds as if they want to curse every single person in a mile around to the seventh generation (actually they do want to do that). They were searching for ice holes all around the New York although the Winter Soldier was supposed to hate cold[2]. They drank vodka, shouted something.
It seems to be normal for Natasha to do all that shit. Clint that knows all her demons is calm so there mustn’t be any problems. James maybe just wanted to try everything new in the world after getting rid of Hydra. Tony doesn’t worry at all because the only the he only want to be certain in is that the world is not going to fall apart in neatest future. Come on, Tony has a huge tower that looks like a dildo and a team of superheroes with strong PTSD — he is the last person that is supposed to be confused. Bruce, firstly, is just too considerate to ask anything and secondly, he doesn’t care about anything that happens upstairs. Thor didn’t use to be with the Avengers too often because he preferred asgardian realities or the space crew named Guardians of Galaxy. Literally no one was interested in Romanoff and Barnes, singing creepy songs in a few languages at once.
Steve had pretty enough chaotic and random things thrown right up to his face. Starting with talking ceiling JARVIS (it is the artificial intellect but still) ending with a bunch of aliens falling out of nowhere. But the one thing he didn’t expect to happen is that his best friend will go on with Natalia Romanoff well. She got a shell in her stomach from the Winter Soldier but... He didn’t expect.
“What is the secret meaning of Колобок?”[3], James says while sitting on the floor and kicking the expensive Stark’s carpet. Natasha on the couch kicks James’ ass. He doesn’t give a fuck.
“Allegory for humans’ life, Jimmy. Why дед and бабка wanted to return him home? Because that’s a sign of parental overprotection to their children. Заяц means socialization, волк — working, медведь...and then he suddenly meets the woman, лиса, who makes him fall in love and eats him”.
“Sounds a bit viciously, don’t you think so?”
“Absolutely not. That’s life”.
“Now I understand why Russians are so pessimistic. They are taught since childhood that happiness doesn’t exist”.
“Oh I beg you. Have you seen yourself in arrival to the Union?, scoffs Nat, “Looked like Царевна Несмеяна”.[4]
“You’re a Баба-Яга. These braids”.[5]
“Don’t you dare remind me of these awful shitty things”.
“Won’t you permit me to make them for you? Even if I’m Добрыня Никитич?” James looked sadly.[6]
“Your puppy eyes work only for Алёша Попович”[7] the Widow nodded at Steve.
“He has much more of Иван Дурак”[8], answers Bucky. Steve glances in a question.
“Are you two trying to discuss me secretly?”
The legendary assassins giggled together. That was creepy.
“Of course no, свет очей моих.”[9]
“Bucky”.
“Guess I have to learn Russian”, Steve grumbles.
“And you must pass the dedication on folk fairytales!”
————————————
[1] — Масленица (Maslenitsa) is a holiday that is celebrated in February-March. The point of it is to say goodbye to winter and greet the spring. Traditional pancakes are delicious, trust me.
[2] — Крещение is when people dive in ice cold water. A religious Christian tradition.
[3] — Колобок (pic 1) it’s like a round piece of pastry. The fairy tale's plot describes Kolobok's repetitive meetings with various animals (rabbit, wolf, and bear) who intend to eat it, but Kolobok cunningly escapes. With each animal Kolobok sings a song in which he explains, "I got away from Grandmother, I got away from Grandfather, and I will certainly get away from you." The fox manages to catch and eat Kolobok through distracting him by praising his singing.
[4] — Несмеяна (pic 2). She is The Princess Who Never Smiled or The Unsmiling Tsarevna is a Russian folk fairy tale collected by Alexander Afanasyev in Narodnye russkie skazki.
[5] — Баба-Яга (pic 3). Baba Yaga is a supernatural being who appears as a deformed or ferocious-looking old woman. In Russian folklore, Baba Yaga flies around in a mortar, wields a pestle, and dwells deep in the forest in a hut usually described as standing on chicken legs.
[6] —Добрыня Никитич (pic 4). Dobrynya Nikitich is one of the most popular bogatyrs from the Rus' folklore. Albeit fictional, this character is based on a real warlord Dobrynya, who led the armies of Svyatoslav the Great and tutored his son Vladimir the Great. Many byliny center on Dobrynya completing tasks set him by prince Vladimir.
[7] — Алёша Попович (pic 4). Alyosha Popovich, is a folk hero in the Rus' folklore, a bogatyr. He is the youngest of the three main bogatyrs, the other two being Dobrynya Nikitich and Ilya Muromets. All three are represented together in Viktor Vasnetsov's famous painting Bogatyrs.
[8] — Иван Дурак (pic 5). Ivan the Fool or Ivan the Ninny is a lucky fool stock character who appears in Russian folklore, a very simple-minded, but, nevertheless, lucky young man. Ivan is described as a likeable fair-haired and blue-eyed youth. The approximate setting of Ivan The Fool's adventures is the 15th or 16th century Russia.
[9] — «свет очей моих» is how in Russia the wife used to call her husband. That’s was like really long time ago.

Review: Thanks for Saving Me
It’s BEYOND obvious that I’m a Baku x Deku stan and I’d never entertained the Todo x Deku dynamic. That was until I read Esselle’s fic Thanks for Saving Me. I’m not sure how I was introduced to it but I’m so glad that I was.
TFSM is a 7 chapter TDDK fic with a Quirkless Izuku who’s a college sophomore and a little younger than our heroes. The official summary:
Midoriya Izuku is a university sophomore, a fanboy, quirkless. On the list of things he is not: a hero.
That's why he's more surprised than anyone when he rescues Todoroki Shouto, his favorite pro hero, from a deadly villain attack. His actions fling him into the media spotlight, grabbing the attention of the entire country, including Todoroki himself. But Todoroki actually wants to get to know him past the headlines.
Izuku finds himself living a story straight out of a fairy tale, one where the mysterious, handsome prince is played by the real-life superhero he has always admired. But Izuku is convinced he's the ugly duckling, not the swan; could he ever be remarkable enough to get his happily ever after?
This story is SO GOOD! There’s a villain attack at Izuku’s school and he meets Todoroki, Pro Hero Shouto, while helping a tour of high school kids escape the chemistry building. I was GEEKED when I read that one of Izuku’s majors was chemistry. I have a degree in chemistry and got all kinds of feels and started imagining my old stomping grounds as the setting. LOL So, by the power of CHEMISTRY Izuku stops Todoroki from making a misstep that would have blown up the whole building and finds the right chemical to knock the villain unconscious. Izuku saved his hero and his hero THANKED HIM!!!!! I would have died on the spot if I was Izuku. LOL I’m sure that he left a part of himself behind in the ambulance when Todoroki cleaned and bandaged a cut on his cheek. And gave him his phone number??!!! YUP. Dead. There lies Izuku Midoriya cause of death Pro Hero Shouto’s overwhelming cuteness.
The next morning Izuku is resurrected and dies again because he is awakened by Todoroki CALLING HIM ON THE PHONE!!! Evidently, the news got out about who he was (Todoroki told them in order to not take all of the credit for the rescue) and Todoroki called to warn him that the media knew and were on the way to his apartment. These goofballs didn’t get to that part of the conversation before Izuku answered the door to a mob of reporters while wearing PRO HERO SHOUTO PAJAMAS!!! Total fanboy. LOL
Todoroki uses his pull and gets them an interview so the media will stop hounding Izuku. Bless Izuku’s heart and I love Esselle for keeping him a canonically horrible dresser. LOL A pinstriped maroon suit with his sneakers. Thank goodness for Todoroki trying to help this poor walking disaster. So, the interview…..I suffer from issues with second hand embarrassment. Even though I’ve read this chapter multiple times I can’t say that I’ve read the whole interview scene. I think I threw my phone a few times and scrolled quickly by. In fact I’m quickly scrolling by now as I reread to write this review. HA! Embarrassment, you won’t catch me!!! ANYWAY, from what I did see, Izuku was his usual adorkable self and charmed everyone. Todoroki arranged a car ride for Izuku back to campus and I swear these lines were perfect to describe their interaction in the car “Izuku slowly raises his head to look at him again. Todoroki is watching him out of the corner of his eye, like he's afraid if he looks at Izuku full on, Izuku will fling himself out of the moving vehicle. Honestly, the assumption might not be that far off.” If Izuku could he would have tucked and rolled out of that car in embarrassment. LMAO Oh and Todoroki is a jerk. A jerk hiding behind that stoic demeanor. I love when he’s written like that. LOL
So, fanboy Izuku is a member of his school’s Pro Hero Fan Association. Any surprises? No? No, ok. LOL And I hate the smarmy chick who is vice president of the club. Just gonna put it out there. DO NOT LIKE! NYET! And OMG Izuku’s clubmate showing him a Twitter feed of Todoroki watching him during the interview??!! Yo! Looking back, Todoroki was sprung from day one. LOL HE EVEN RETWEETED THE TWITTER THREAD. Yup, sprung. LOL Moving on to the end of the week and Izuku takes Shouto up on his offer of a tour of his agency. Again with Jerky Shouto teasing Izuku about that god awful maroon suit. LOL To Izuku’s surprise, Shouto personally escorts him around on the tour. HIs assistant Aiko alluding to the fact that Shouto had been looking forward to it all week. Oh. Everything is going well, Izuku gets to see a lot and fanboy and then Shouto gets a call from his assistant. Enemy number one is in the building. Shouto’s dad, Endeavor. DUN DUN DUUUUNN!!! These two fools take off running and HIDE in a damn broom closet. WHAT?! LMAO All is still semi-good until the unthinkable happens. All of the excitement leads to Izuku getting a hard on. NOOOOO!!!!!!!! And he’s squished up against Shouto in the small hiding place. “his leg juts out a bit more, and his thigh slots between Izuku's, and Izuku's soul abandons his earthly body.” RIP Izuku Midoriya. AGAIN! At the end of their adventure Izuku ends up with an invite to the Hero’s Gala. An invite from Shouto to attend WITH HIM! Izuku has left this planet again. How many lives does this kid have? LOL
Poor awkward Izuku. His phone calls with Shouto are a mess. It helps that Shouto is awkward as well. As for the gala, Izuku pictures himself going as “Todoroki's friend-guest.” *snort* FRIEND-GUEST?! A guest that is a friend? LOL The things that go through this kid’s head. And what will this walking fashion disaster wear?! Now to worry when Shouto offers to get his outfitted in a suit. Oh! And Shouto wasn’t slick wanting to keep Izuku on the phone after they finished talking about the gala. “How was your day” indeed. LOL
It’s suit fitting day and this whole section is my favorite part of this chapter!! Izuku’s running late at his hero fan association meeting and his fellow club members overhear him talking on the phone with Shouto. Of course that annoying vice president immediately jumps in to say that he’s lying. BLEH! And just as Izuku’s deciding that that he’ll quit the club, who comes to his rescue? None other than Shouto showing up AT the club room to personally retrieve him. You go Shouto! Go save your wannabe bae!!! Their car ride over was adorable with Izuku admitting to liking to see Shouto for who he really is. And NOT wanting Shouto to follow his embarrassing fanboy Twitter account. HA! All of the things that Izuku knows about Shouto’s public persona never ceases to amaze Shouto. Even amazes the tailor. The tailor who’s noticed that Shouto has taken a liking to Izuku. And yeah, Shouto is practically damn drooling when Izuku shows off his tailored tux. Alright people, the TodoDeku train has left the station!! LOL
Momma Inko is a treasure. Even she thinks that Shouto likes him. Recounting all of their “dates.” Gotta pay attention to a mother’s instinct. They KNOW things. LOL When the news showed that Shouto got hurt in an overseas mission poor Izuku got so worried. When he finally talked to Shouto, he jokingly played it off that Izuku was just worried about not being able to go to the gala. JERK! LOL I thought we were about to lose Izuku again when he accidentally called Shouto by his first name and when he heard Shouto call him by his first name. How many more lives does this kid have? Is there a 1-Up mushroom anywhere nearby? LOL And it’s absolutely adorable that they stayed on the phone and Izuku fell asleep with the phone next to him. Like some high school romance when you’re not supposed to be on the phone late at night. LOL
Ooooooo, Todoroki showed up at Izuku’s apartment as soon as he flew back into town. *sings* He wanted to spend time with Izuuukkuuuu! And poor oblivious Izuku still doesn’t realize that it means that he’s interested in him. LOL An impromptu date, cause it is a date. Shouto even brought takeout to eat together. They ate, and talked, and enjoyed each other’s company.
And then IT’S GALA DAY!!!! They’re taking Shouto’s private jet to the location of the gala and the jerk that is Shouto “forgets” to tell Izuku that Ururaka, pro hero Uravity, and Hanta, pro hero Cellophane, will be flying with them. Izuku called him out though. He knows those jerkish ways. LOL Looking back on this segment and this was all a setup for his friends to get to know Izuku. To know him and see all of the wonderful things that Shouto sees in him. ANDDD Izuku’s soul left the building when the plane hit turbulence and Shouto stopped him from falling by pulling him onto his lap. “ Izuku is mentally filing away every detail regarding the entire experience of Todoroki Shouto's Warm Lap.” BWAAAAAAA. Shouto was so protective of him afterward wanting him to feel comfortable with the turbulence. Touching Izuku’s hair and shifting over so their legs almost touched. Such tiny intimate actions. I love how Shouto’s style team pampered Izuku getting him ready for the gala. Izuku deserves a nice night like this. WOOOOOO when those two saw each other in their suits it’s like electricity in the air. They are both so far gone. LOL
Shouto was amazing helping Izuku navigate the red carpet of the event. Even pointing out two girls who were fans of Izuku’s hero actions. The interview with Kaminari made me laugh. The whole time I was thinking, being friends that I know those two have talked about everything already that Kaminari was going to ask. But they had to do it on camera for sure. And when Kaminari asked who Izuku was and Shouto hesitated with “my…” I wondered if he stopped himself from saying “boyfriend” and later on thought maybe he was going to say “date.” “"I feel pretty damn lucky that you're here tonight, too."” Shouto is a goner. LOL
Inside the venue Shouto AGAIN surprised Izuku and introduced him to All Might himself!! Shouto really does enjoy seeing Izuku freak out. The jerk. LOL LIke how do you not tell him he’s going to meet his favorite hero and like Shouto’s surrogate dad??!! LOL All Might’s words of wisdom were just what Izuku needed to finally get it through his head that he had performed heroic acts and it didn’t matter if he was quirkless. All Might in his fatherly way ALSO alluded to Shouto being fond of Izuku. Does EVERYONE know how Shouto feels about Izuku? LOL The hand holding at the table SQUUEEEEEE!!!! They are so adorable. And Todorki’s acceptance speech where he purposely took time out to thank Izuku...yeah, if anyone didn’t know before, they knew then. LOL
At Shouto’s class’ after party EVERYONE pokes fun at them. His class knows and they’ve been itching to get to meet Izuku. LOL Poor Izuku, consistent minor heart attacks. LOL And then a moment that I had been waiting for (and forgot that I was waiting for) was the introduction of Bakugo! First off, thank you Esselle for making him married to Kirishima. YES! The rival-friendship between him and Shouto. Staring each other down before smiling. Yes, YES!! But I was looking forward to how the interaction between Bakugo and Izuku would play out. Immediately like an older brother/younger brother thing. LOL And Oooooooo is Shouto a little bit jealous???!!!! Tee hee! Well, I think he got over that pretty quickly when Izuku slipped again and ended up on his lap AGAIN! Not that Shouto minded at all. LOL
And THEN the walk back to Izuku’s hotel room and  both of their insecurities popped up. Shouto’s fault, though. While Izuku thought there were no way that a pro hero would be interested in him, Shouto was thinking that he had nothing to offer Izuku other than being a pro hero. These two disasters. LOL But Izuku acted on his feelings and shared his first kiss with Shouto. Who proceeded to then beat down his door to tongue Izuku down something filthy. LOL WOO BOY!!! These two have been dancing around each other for months and now they’re in Izuku’s hotel room losing their minds. I think that Izuku dies again, more than once. LOL And OMG!!!! Todoroki is so turned on that he can’t control his fire side. YOOO!!!! His mouth is so hot that he’s blowing steam and his jacket caught on fire. LOL Shouto blindfolded listening to Izuku jerk himself off and then watching. HOT!!! On the bed rutting together, in the shower washing each other, Izuku got his man!!!! It tickled me that Shouto was very comfortable walking around naked, not like Izuku would complain about seeing him. And he finally convinced Izuku to be mutual follows on Twitter. LOL Welp, can’t say no now.
Well, that’s it. I really enjoyed this one. And enjoyed the reread I did tonight to work on this review.

hi! i was reading through your snk meta (which are so wonderfully thought out btw!! i couldn’t stop reading haha) and you mentioned your dislike of the “female deuteragonist love interest will be able to save the main male character” because it’s a “misogynistic trope disguised as female empowerment.” since this trope is so prevalent and i haven’t really considered it being toxic, would you mind expanding on this? thank you!!
Hello!! First of all, thank you for reading my metas, and I’m glad you liked them! Secondly, I want to be clear I was speaking in a specific context and my language may not have allowed for that, so apologies there. And thirdly, I’ll also add that every single trope ever can be problematic in a sense, so if you enjoy this trope, good for you; it’s just one that I personally despise. That is, again though, my personal taste. God knows I like some tropes that are even more blatantly problematic. That’s fine. I just really don’t like this trope because it’s trussed up as “look how much influence a female character has!” and I’m like... but is it?
Tumblr media
So I was talking specifically not another a love interest saving her male counterpart, but about a trope I’ll call, as it’s often referred to as, “the magical healing vagina.” The concept is that a good romp with your true love will right all of an emotionally unstable man’s problems. However, this can work in say, fairy tales, or in certain emotional power fantasies which are just as potentially harmful and harmless as physical power fantasies (see: most superhero films, James Bond, etc. There’s plenty to critique in them but also plenty to enjoy if that’s the kind of fantasy you want. Escapism is not a bad thing, and I regret if I sounded like I was policing that).
My problem with it is that it relies on the notion that women are only as powerful as their love can affect the man they’re with. It also never works in real life; like really, it does not and this idea--that true love--will cure a troubled man has led to major problems for people I care about. It plays into larger misogyny and the idea that a woman’s worth is in her vagina and how it’s used, and that she can save a bad boy by loving him when that’s seldom true.
As for how the story in particular rationalized a mention of my dislike of this trope, I’m quite sure this post was written relatively recently after the Historia pregnancy reveal, in which my inbox was flooded with people insisting that Eren’s true love with Historia (which doesn’t exist in canon) would justify everything since he was doing it for their baby, and once he went public with it everyone would understand and justify everything that he’d done, and would right all the problems in SnK’s world. I'm not exaggerating. My response was to be like “no.” Such a solution especially does not work in SnK, which has a realistic depiction of trauma and war as a major player in its plot. If this was a power fantasy or a fairy tale, I would not mind true love teaching the world a lesson. But it just wouldn’t work with the worldbuilding of SnK. Also, at the time, another manga I really loved which was similar to SnK in its gritty reality ended up using this trope in the end. For some people, that satisfied; for someone who was invested because of the ugly, painful depictions of mental illness in this particular story, it was not satisfying and reiterated for me how much I dislike the trope.
Also, I think what bears repeating is that a love interest often does play a beautiful role in a character’s redemption or solving their issues. Finding out that you are loved through seeing how someone loves you is a very real thing, and isn’t inherently bad. Good, a “morally good” female character who challenges and influences said bad boy to grow is something I’m all for. I just reallllllly hate when it becomes magical healing vagina and post-sex most of the issues vanish, particularly in realistic works.
So yeah. Personal opinion, critical thinking wise I dislike it, but you could easily pick apart tropes I do like too. :P
