A single design problem I have for each D&D 5e class
Made this a thread over on bluesky and figured might as well bring it over here. Not really big problems in most cases, but just, small things that I feel WotC should tweak in all current 5e classes.
Artificer: No clear weakness.
A single class that can make great a great support character, DPS character, tank, single target attacker, stealth character, etc
Obviously needs to be built spesifically for each of these, but every other class has at least one thing they can't do.
Barbarian: No force resistance
Slightly cheating because it's not inherently a problem with Barbarian, but recently more monsters have been using Force damage instead of B/P/S, and barbarians should absolutely gain resistance to it while raging at higher levels.
Bard: Full-casting
Bards are designed to be a jack of all trades, it's right there at 2nd level, but they seem to have missed the 'master of none' bit.
Full spellcasting up to 9th level, a pretty solid spell list, and spells they don't have they can take with Magical Secrets anyway, even 9th level ones.
Cleric: Turn Undead
A holdover from older editions, turn undead in my opinion just doesn't make for a good universal option on clerics.
I'd much prefer something like spirit guardians or spiritual weapon be reworked into their universal channel divinity.
Druid: Universal Wildshape
Probably controversial, but I have similar problems with wildshape that I do turn undead, it's good, but a weird universal option.
If I'm a druid getting my powers from stones, plants, or the stars, why can I also turn into a ferret? There should be a few options to pick from instead.
Fighter: Action Surge at Level 2
Action surge is such a good feature, usually it's just some extra attacks, but the fact you have the chioce is great....
That said, I think it coming online so early incentivises unintentionally incentivises multiclassing, casters dipping for 2 spells a turn mostly. They've somewhat fixed it by limiting what actions you can use it for in OneD&D, but I personally just feel it should be later level rather than limiting it.
Monk: Ki Dependancy
This doesnt' need explaining, everything for monks costs ki and it really doesn't need to, they should get resource free disengage and dash, or have ki recover faster.
I had an idea for a ki recharge of 1 min, but less points overall, so you have all points for every fight
Paladin: Oaths at 3rd level
You get your power as a paladin from a sacred oath you swear, so why do you only choose that oath at 3rd level?
That's like a warlock only deciding their patron at 3rd, or a cleric only deciding their god at 3rd (Yes 1D&D does this and I hate it).
Ranger: Spells Known
Why do rangers, the class that's meant to be about being the best prepared for the wilderness and natural areas not have prepared spells?
It just seems so obvious to me, and I've got no idea why it's not done like that already?!
Rogue: Is Pretty Good
If anything I'd say that I'm not a fan of skill floors like reliable talent, and expertise not letting you use it on other tools is a bit strange, maybe the large subclass level gap?
Yeah overall I'm a fan of rogues though, they're just solidly made.
Sorcerer: Spells Known
They tried to fix this in Tasha's with subclass spell lists, and I think that's good idea generally, but letting them swap them for (admittedly limited) options from 3 different spell lists is also weird
Just give them subclass spells they can't swap, or maybe can swap fron one list and you're good.
Warlock: EB is a Cantrip
Eldritch Blast is a good spell. Too good to be honest with multiclassing at least, it's one of the reasons PalLock is such a good combo.
EB should scale with Warlock level so be a feature not a cantrip, or cantrip scaling with warlock level like it was in that One D&D UA that they then reverted.
Wizard: Subclass Theming
Tying wizard subclasses to schools was a bad idea, and what we've gotten outside the PHB seems to be an attempt to go back on that.
It also means they don't have room to explore all of each school, I'd love a teleport or summon focused wizard but school of conjuration smashes them together weirdly

We're not friends
We just finished a campaign and we all noticed something.
Player 1 (Momma’s boy barbarian/fighter): You know. I dont think any of our characters would have considered each other friends.
Player 2 (Snooty politician bard): No. [Bard] at least considers [barbarian] as an amusing fan.
Player 1: *Laughing* He saw [Bard] as like a helpful neighbor.
Player 2: But he HATED [Ranger]
Player 3 (ex summer court princess ranger): No worries she hated him too. At least [barbarian] was a fun companion.
Player 1: Not friend?
Player 3: oh no he refused to put up with my shenanigans. But [Artificer].
Player 4 (literal god complex, artificer): Oh no you were an amusement at best. Now with [Barbarian]
Player 1: You sent your assassination organization after his family. He hates you.
Player 4: Yeah. Not sure how that came to be but at least he thought you were a threat. [Bard] was an annoyance.
Player 2: Cause I almost unveiled your schemes or I had a high enough wisdom to call you out on your shit?
Player 4: Yes.
Player 1: It’s a miracle we saved the world instead of killing each other.
DM: Amen to that.
Player 2: I’m filing a restraining order on all of you… expect [Barbarian].
Player 1: Let’s be honest none of you would put one on him, he’s a good kid.
Player 3: True.

I need to say it because the amount of klance things I've been seeing is not normal.
Lance was wronged and so was Keith, but with Lance it is so revolting.
That boy wanted to be a pilot, to be the best at what he was good, and you're gonna tell me he quit ALL his dreams when his girlfriend of 2-3 days dies.
Okay, blame it on PTSD, blame it on him carrying her mission forward. Still, those are not enough to convince me that ending wasn't garbage.
A farmer. They turned this pilot, sharpshooter, sassy guy into a farmer, for no reason whatsoever. It is infuriating!
They never tried to hide that Shiro and Keith were their protagonists. The interesting arcs, the big developments, the cool fights and even the back from the dead all all theirs, but come on man, this is not power rangers.
You sell this idea of 5 cool pilot fighters, a princess and a mustache, and one of the fighters has less memorable moments than the mice.
And don't even get me started on the queerbaiting. What was the ducking point of putting those long talks between Keith and Lance, those sentimental for eyes between them, just to throw it out and put Allura there.
Don't get me wrong here, I love Allura, but we all know what they did to her was horrible, and in real life, she would be using Lance to get over Lotor, because Lance was comfortable and that boy was too good to hurt a girl's feelings.
I hate what dw did, but I love the fandom for keeping our delusion and coping together

CODVN but (some of) the princes play DND:
How they start playing, idk. Maybe it’s a dare. Maybe it’s a genuine, honest to god attempt from one of the princes to learn more about MC and her habits/hobbies/culture. Imo, Fenn probably did something and of course, the other princes got dragged into it.
Mc: DM
• is the one who introduced the game.
• Teaches the princes how to play
• tortures them when possible.
Toa and Guy:
• Wizards, because MC punked them.
• Convinced them they were the most powerful class at higher levels, neglected to inform them that they start with fuck all health.
• “Here’s this: if you’re so smart, why don’t you play a mundane who has to study magic? Humans play this class all the time, I bet you can’t handle it…”
• “You bet??? YOu BET?? Very well, speak less” *gets hit once, almost dies from 7 points of damage*
• Guy demands the opportunity to change his class, MC responds: “Okay! I’ll let you change your class— and everyone else will get the chance to multi class :)”
Toa: “multi… class?”
MC: “Oh, it’s when you get to reap the benefits of your character occupying two classes at once :)”
Guy grumbles, and falls into a stony silence.
• the two *barely* survive levels 1-3, but somehow they pull through. And suddenly, outside of game, they’ve started acting with a little more respect for those not magically gifted…
Fenn: Paladin.
• Still charisma based, so can still rizz and charm like Fenn is used to.
• But playing as a Paladin also serves as wish fulfillment, because that’s what DND is all about.
• You might be thinking, “A paladin?? But Fenn should be a Bard, it’s so clearly the best fit”. And I get you! But that’s exactly it— Fenn is already a Bard in his real life. Playing as one in game does nothing special for him. There’s no escapism, no fantasy. Here, he can be a knight in shining armor, upstanding and righteous, and all the other things not typically associated with Fenn. All the other things people don’t let him be, that his reputation prevent him from ever really achieving. Here, he can basically role play as Greyson. And honestly, who wouldn’t?
• is the first prince MC introduced the game to
• lowkey gets into it, and eventually does some of his own campaigns :)
Roy: Bard.
• Again, the name of the game is DND Wish Fulfillment. Roy looks up to Guy, who’s attribute is charisma. What class is based on that stat again? BARD. And now, Roy doesn’t have to be morally upstanding and perfect and unsoiled. He gets to be a little shit and enjoy it.
Lynt: I have no idea, NGL, but I’m thinking warlock.
• This is basically a DND joke— if you don’t know, warlocks have like, two spell slots. So if they want to cast more spells, they need to recharge, which is basically some form of rest.
• Don’t let this fool you, warlocks can be fucking BUSTED. Those two/three spell slots, they put them to fucking WORK. But they gotta get their rest in, dawg.
• in this way, they remind me of our sleepy boy. Quietly powerful as hell, but really only fuck around if they HAVE to. Otherwise, they kind of just mind their business.
Rio: Barbarian
• one of the easier classes to start with— and I know they’re ALL just starting, and I love Rio, but he can use the training wheels. Ain’t no shame in that.
• he approaches life in a way that’s very similar to barbarians: in a story, when Toa was telling him he was trying to put too much magic through too small an opening, Rio’s response was “oh, I know what to do! That just means I need to use EVEN MORE magic!” Like, shit, go off king.
• unlike some of the other princes, I don’t think he would be adverse to using melee over magic.
Lance: Rogue/Druid RANGER
• Lance gets to multi class because 1. I’m biased, and 2. I can see arguments for both classes.
• you may be thinking, “but shaaky, he’s the prince of wrath! His kingdom’s main export is mercenaries, ffs. Shouldn’t HE be a barbarian, or at least a fighter?” And again, I hear you! But, you gotta remember the magic words! Say em with me: “DND is wish fulfillment”. Lance fucking HATES how his kingdom is ran. That’s like, 80% of his story. He wouldn’t WANT to play a character built like that. Unless… it was for the people.
• correct me if I’m wrong, but Lance is the only prince who knows what it’s like to be poor. Not just a commoner, like actually destitute. He’s probably the prince with the most street smarts. And lowkey, he’s probably had to steal shit to survive at some point. He 1000% would ace the rogue class, and would probably stun the princes while he did it.
• Lance: “I loot the body”
Toa: “pardon?”
Lance: “I slit the guards throat, he fell over prone. I loot the body, for whatever valuables are on his person.”
MC: “make an investigation check”
Lynt: “…😨”
• Druid is there if he wanted to just fuck around and hang with animals.
• RANGER, oh my GOD ranger is RIGHT THERE, how did I miss that—
• Ranger is basically the flavor you get when you mix rogue and druid together, so it makes sense that it would fit Lance
• the man fucks off to the forest first chance he gets, everytime.
• just give him a bow already— he probably knows how to use it given his Ira background
• it’s the final battle, the other princes are up against the BBEG: Toa and Guy are on the brink of death, Roy and Rio are down, Fenn and Lynt are barely hanging in there— and then out of nowhere, a hissing noise rings out above everybody, followed by a sickening thwa-CHUNK. An arrow has lodged itself smack dab between the BBEG’s eyes, he falls over, dead. From 600 yards away, Lance’s character stands up, says “finally”, and leaves.
Other silly little head canons:
• instead of maps, MC uses magic to generate basically holograms of bosses and character minis.
The holograms move. So when the giant beast bellows, I mean it literally bellows, claws out and spittle flying and everything. More than once have the princes jumped back in their seats, genuinely scared by the images she generated.
Toa, traumatized: “Remember when I said you had no imagination?… I take it back. I take it all back…”
Guy, thinking to himself: if she ever did go evil on us, we’d be fucked…
• MC will call them on it if the princes lapse out of character.
MC will remind them their characters are, in some way very starkly, different from themselves, and for the story, those differences matter.
Guy: “what do you mean, he said he wouldn’t let us past?”
Mc shakes her head, does an accent: “gainst the rules, boy. Can’t be doing that”.
“Against the—?! You will LET ME PAST, you insolent mongrel—”
Mc: “roll to intimidate.”
Guy: “roll?”
Mc: “I’m sure, being a huffy prince of a powerful kingdom and all, demanding stuff usually works for you. But might I remind you, your highness— that you are playing a game. and in this game, your character is a scrawny, bookish sapling of a man who weighs about a third as much as the guard you’re talking to, and is around half his height. Tell me, what’s your charisma modifier?”
Guy frowns, but looks through his character sheet.
Guy: “… negative one?”
MC smiles: “Your character has the charisma of dragon piss filled boot. Which means you need a 16 or higher, otherwise this guard is going to laugh in your face and pat you on the head.”
Guy stares at MC, but says nothing.
Mc: “Now, your wisdom modifier?”
Guy: “what?”
Mc: “your wisdom modifier, what is it?”
He checks his sheet again.
Guy: “… it’s a positive 4.”
Mc: “you’re right, it is. Which is a hell of a lot better than a negative one. So, while it may not be intuitive, you’re going to be much more likely to convince this man to let you through if you utilize a wisdom based approach, as opposed to relying on charisma.”
Toa snorts: “what would you know of wisdom?”
Mc: “might I remind you that being an asshole is not listed as one of your character’s traits? Also, your character is currently otherwised engaged, trying not to die from missing the last step on the staircase. As such, you can’t hear this exchange.”
• Eventually, after getting familiar with the games mechanics, the princes do a campaign where they get isakied to Earth.
MC throws a lot of mundane shit at them, and they absolutely flounder trying to make any sense of it.
Guy: “Peanut butter?? What do you mean he’s allergic to peanut butter, what the devil is that??? Epipen??!”
Lynt, confused: “Almond milk?… how do they…?”
Toa: “I assure the woman that I am not, in fact, “tripping”, as she so claims. The floor is clear and level, and there are no staircases in sight.”
Fenn: “what do you mean he’s 63??? Good Creator, how long are humans lives again? Wasn’t it at least a 1000 years?…”

For those who play DnD and Baldur's Gate 3
If you could give companions (and npcs) different classes/subclasses from other sources, what would you give them?
Read bellow
Lae'zel: Battle Master fighter fits her fine but I'd multiclass her with Drakewarden Ranger. Favored enemy? Also a magical dragon pet?
Karlach: Barbarian also fits her, but Juggernaut? Hello? Best for a Barbarian on front lines of a war on higher levels
Shadowheart: First of all, I wouldn't keep her as a cleric, but a paladin. She doesn't have the wise energy that comes with cleric. She's a devotion paladin. BUT if I want to pick a cleric subclass for her, twilight is a cool thing. Not dark as Shar and not light as Selune. She's the middle line. The only trickery cleric I can get behind to work is Jester by Laura Bailey.
Jaheira: Druid is cool, ranger is better (for her) I see her as a resourceful and more dynamic flexible like a ranger is both in utility of a fight and nature. Either Beast master or Primeval Guardian.
Halsin: He's fine where he is. Moon druid is good for him. I thought of giving him Blood hunter order of lycan and have him turn into a were-bear but I think blood hunters are a bit too harsh and aggressive for him.
Gale: Evocation wizard is cool, but for Gale I go for Chronurgy (thanks critical role) Gale wants to fight his goddess one way or another, give him the power to manipulate time. It's something that out of books and he'll fullfil the prodigy type.
Astarion: I thought Blood hunter? But he's not a fit for subclasses. Have a vampire dealing radiant damage is a funny image tho, ngl. But keeping him a rogue, and make him swashbuckler. They're charisma build rogues and he's a charismatic asshole.
Wyll: he's a warlock, his story is a warlock, so fiend pact of blade he stays for me... But! Hear me out. Palock. Paladin warlock. Paladin of redemption. Unless you have him kill karlach then he's Paladin of conquest.
Minsc: ... Gee fuck! He's a challenge for me bc I love rangers and he has the sweet baby barbarian vibe for some reason but he's not a barbarian either. I keep him as he is bc he confuses me.
Dame Aylin: mommy is paladin coded, she's best for Paladin of glory. Or ancient. Have it your way.
Isobel: Cleric of light, sure... Multiclass her with druid of stars
Ketheric Thorm: Paladin of either devotion (bc obv devoted to Myrkul for his debt) or conquest bc of the fear and intimidation he rules with.
Enver Gortash: Yes yes I'm gonna say it... Artificer. Either Mechanism or armorer, but I go far to say he can be a bard too. Bards harness the power of their words, they are jack of all traits, and can have expertise in many tools. It's not a written rule to have all bards as musicians. Lawyers can be bards, artists can be bards.
Orin the red: She's tough for me tbh. To pull tricking and passing as someone else you need high charisma. She doesn't have sorcerer or bard vibe, not rogue or warlock either. Blood hunter (heh) profane soul needs pact with higher entity (Bhaal) and I think this class can suit her. I'm open to criticism on this take.
Durge: I won't choose sorcerer for them. I find gloom stalker Ranger better fit for a serial killer. But sorcery, sure... Evil devine soul and when redeemed durge (spoilers) dies and Withers brings them back, it's up for debate to loose the sorcery or be other subtypes.
Share your takes.

Hi!!! I love your blog so much, especially your weekly summaries-- they are just so helpful! I was wondering if you know of any Bls with the military/policemen/fire fighters? I know military service is mandatory in thailand and south korea so I was wondering if there were any Bls that have one the main characters in the military (or police, firefighters etc.) Thanks so so much!
Hi!!! Thank you!
BL BADGE BUNNIES ACTIVATED!
Sure thing. There are a few, not many. Countries with conscription policies (e.g. Korea & Thailand) usually have a defacto ban on realistic/non-positive representation of military service in their media. In other words, BL by its nature (gay in military) stays away from this setting.
BLs in uniform (featuring military/policemen/fire fighter romances)
Tumblr media
A Tale of Thousand Stars Thai 2021 YouTube (ranger) - With great casting and cinematography this drama nods at BL tropes but manages to elevate them (and itself) with a strong mature story concept about a spoiled rich kid who gets a heart transplant and becomes a teacher it order to pay out survivor’s guilt. On the way he falls in love with a local park ranger and contends with his own classism and escapist tendencies. Everyone seemed to perfectly suit their roles and GMMTV made the most out of its stable. Combined with excellent production (and post production) values, 1000 Stars is without question GMMTV’s most mature, charming, and smart BL series. I think it should go down as one of the top BLs of all time. I feel safe recommending this one to friends and non BL watchers. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Tumblr media
HIStory 3: Trapped Taiwan 2019 Viki (cop) - Basically the definition of enemies to lovers from Lin Pei Yu. This is a cop + the mafia man he is chasing but WAIT, they fall in love. Added bonus side couple: assassin and nerd cop ALSO falling in love. It’s great. All the leads are stellar. Its high heat, fun action, and a bit of a mystery drama but pretty about all of it. My only warning is that the main couple doesn’t entirely end up together, it’s implied, but… amorphous ending. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Tumblr media
Your Name Engraved Herein Taiwan 2020 Netflix? (army, recent history) - This movie is fantastic but it is also seriously depressing, it’s a self acceptance journey, but if you wanna wallow in high quality acting and serious gay drama, this’ll do it. MIXED REC, NOT FOR SPECIFICALLY BL FANS
Tumblr media
S.C.I. AKA SCI Mysteries China/Hong Kong 2018 YouTube? (censored bromance, cops) - This is a police procedural with a censored main couple of police investigators who live together basically as husbands, it’s just not talked about. This is one of the first BLs I ever saw (I found their relationship very confusing). RECOMMENDED
Tumblr media
Guardian China 2018 grey (censored bromance, cop) - Episodic urban fantasy meets police procedural, one of the most epic long term pinings in the history of long term pinings. RECOMMENDED
Light Taiwan 2021 Gaga (cop) - Ironically titled movie about a street hustler (incest, rape, abuse survivor - all depicted on screen) who falls in (and in love with) an undercover cop. TRIGGERS
Shorts & Sides
Tumblr media
A First Love Story Korea 2021 YouTube & Gaga (military service) - Strongberry are true masters of their craft and yet A First Love Story is still one of the best things they have ever produced. It’s the only microfilm ever to make one of my year end top ten list. It’s two episodes of about 8 minutes each that manage to perfectly portray the sweetest friends-to-lovers confession ever. It’s joyful, and gentle with its characters, and a little hot. How on earth do they manage to leave us yearning for more yet completely satisfied at the same time? It’s like the perfect amuse-bouche, that one finger food at that one cocktail party that you will never forget. You are a ridiculous human if you haven’t spent 16 minutes with these two boys. Go watch it now. Or go watch it again. It’s time VERY well spent. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Tumblr media
Just Friends? Korea 2009 Gaga (military service) - Boyfriends, one of whom is on military leave, trying to decide on coming out and the future. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
(also one of Korea's first BLs, they would NOT stick to this style, it's way more Taiwan feeling.)
The Immeasurable Taiwan 2021 Gaga (cop) - Police officer falls in love with a student who turns out to be an anti-establishment activist. MIXED REC
DanYok side couple in Not Me (cop)
I've left out bodyguards and historicals (or both).
I've left out the super dark, unhappy, violent, rapey, and pinks, because... I don't like 'em, and you asked me... so...
Now you know why the BL adaptation I want more than ANYTHING is Decedents of the Sun, soldier+healer but GAY? Come on, it writes itself!

The elder of the Rangers of Lumière have been invited to the vytal festival, Jaune and Ashwin are assigned by the Co-elder to protect the elder, he also task the head of the desert Rangers to send one he's best man to keep an eye on them in secret, but the elder has a different idea he wants jaune and Ashwin to fight to show the Rangers of Lumière skills.
You choose the biome where they fight.
Jaune and Ashwin walked into the Arena and the two couldn't help but be in slight awe at how large the arena was and how many people were watching them.
Ashwin was in awe as a large smile, "Can you believe this Jaune!? Look at all the people!" He cried.
Jaune couldn't help but agree with his cousin, "It is a sight to be held that's for sure," He said with a smile.
"Come now cousin, don't act all cool, I bet your belle femme is watching!" Ashwin teased.
Jaune groaned in annoyance but had a slight blush on his face, "Let's just make sure that we make the Elder proud," He said.
Ashwin shrugged with a smile, "Very well," He said.
Cardin Winchester and Russel Thrash were across from them and walking on the stage.
"Rangers from Lumiere? This should be easy! Nothing but backwater fighters!" Cardin said with a smug look.
Russel nodded in agreement, "You said it dude, I bet these Rangers don't even have Semblances,"
Cardin looked at them with a raised brow, "Hey! What the fuck are you two talking about!? I can't understand a fucking word!" He cried.
Before more could be said, the Biomes were picked and much to the two rangers' luck, both landed on Forest.
Russel smiled, "Well, well, well, home turf!" He said with a smile.
'Home turf? Have these fools even been out in the wild?' Jaune asked himself.
Both Biomes came out from underneath and surrounded the four teen boys as the timer went down, and once it hit zero and the bell rang for the fight to begin, Jaune and Ashwin charged at the two Huntsmen in training, and Jaune unsheathed Crocea Mors, but didn't activate the shield, and when the blade was unsheathed, it glowed a light green along with his eyes, and Cardin quickly blocked his attack with his mace.
Meanwhile, Ashwin grabbed his bow and just when Russel was going to swing, he ducked under the attack and slid behind him before quickly turning around and shooting him in the back, knocking the Beacon student off balance.
Cardin quickly pushed Jaune's sword away before kicking Jaune in the gut, yet the blonde didn't budge.
'That... it felt like I had just kicked a brick wall!' Cardin thought.
Jaune used his empty hand to backhand Cardin, causing the brunette boy to stumble backward. Cardin quickly regained himself and swing his mace at Jaune, but the blonde deflected the attack with his hand, and thanks to his aura, he felt very little damage, and Cardin swung again only for Jaune to duck and when Jaune stood up, he quickly jabbed Cardin in the chest with the butt of his sword and sent Cardin to the ground with the wind knocked out of him.
Jaune looked at the boy with a disappointed look, "Ton pathétique,(6)" Jaune said as he walked away.
Meanwhile, Russel was slashing wildly at Ashwin, who was merely dodging each and every swing with ease while wearing a smug smirk.
"Come now, this can't be all you got?" Ashwin said, "I thought Beacon trained the best of the best?" He asked.
Russel growled, "Shut up!" he cried as he tried to thrust his weapon at the ranger.
Ashwin sidestepped the attack and struck him in the throat with his bow, causing Russel to gag and then tripping Russel to the ground.
Both rangers walked away and stood next to each other as they watched the two students slowly get up and regain themselves.
Jaune looked at his cousin with an unsatisfied look, "Ash, ces deux-là sont pathétiques(7),"
Ashwin nodded in agreement, "Je ne peux m'empêcher d'être d'accord, les Schnee se sont mieux battus que ces deux-là,(8)" Ashwin replied, "Dois-je y mettre fin?(9)" he asked.
Jaune nodded.
Ashwin smiled and he used his semblance and appeared around them were ghosts, thousands of them, and they all surrounded the two boys who were scared out of their minds and were surrounded on all sides.
Jaune walked past the ghosts and stood in front of the two boys with a blank expression. "Is that the best you got? If it is, then your best won't do... you said the forest was your home-turf, how arrogant of you," Jaune told them. "You call yourselves huntsmen, but that couldn't be farther from the truth, you're just rabbits, hopping away from wolves, and let me tell you both... you're among wolves now, and these are our woods," Jaune said.
Both boys from Beacon quickly gave up and many cheered for the Rangers as they were amazed by how quickly they had defeated huntsmen in training, and found Ashwin's semblance super interesting and cool.
As the fight ended, a strom was brewing inside the the VIP booths.
The Elder smirked as he slowly drank the tea he had ben given, as from his side, Ironwood and the Vale council was in shock as seeing how easily their supposed "Protectors of Humanity" were easily defeated by who they claimed to be backwater people.
sitting on his other side, Ozpin chuckled as he took a sip from his coffee, "You and Your rangers never cease to amaze me," Ozpin said.
The elder smiled as he looked at Ozpin, "You warm this old soul with your kind words, Ozpin," The Elder told him, as he slowly looked down to the two Rangers, who were leaving the arena. 'Jaune, young Ashwin, you two have made me proud and have honored all rangers,' He thought with a tear formed in his eyes.
XXX
Jaune and Ashwin Translations:
"Ash, I don't care what biome we fight these bastards in, we can't let them win"
"That’s okay with me, do you mind if I get the one with the mohawk?"
"The one with the mace is mine"
"Should I end it quickly?"
"No, I want to have a little fun, I want to see if they're as good as team RWBY"
"Your pathetic"
"Ash, these two are pathetic"
"I can't help but agree, the Schnee fought better than these two,"
"Should I end it?"

Retrograde Revision 3: Archer
Tumblr media
(art by jeffchendesigns on DeviantArt)
Green Arrow, Hawkeye, the Peter Jackson version of Legolas, many versions of Robin Hood… All are known for being legendary archers, no, more than that, utterly superhuman in their skill with a bow. From archery techniques that look good on film but are poor practice in real life to truly impossible shots, there’s a lot to be said about the unrealistic but nevertheless awesome-looking feats that these archers get up to.
Love them or hate them, such incredible skill in archery is the basis for today’s archetype, the archer fighter!
As the name implies, these warriors specialize in the bow, and are so skilled as to perform some incredible shots with them.
By stereotype alone, it’s often rare to see ranged-focused fighters, with bows seemingly more regulated to rangers, hunters, or other classes that don’t automatically get better armor, but the base fighter alone gets so many combat bonus feats that they can be among the best archers in the game, and this archetype only makes them better, giving them more to do with a bow and arrow than just dealing damage each round.
As ranged experts, these archers are skilled at noticing distant targets, as well as compensating for distance and wind to strike from further away without a loss in accuracy.
An archer’s precision with their arrows is so great that they can learn to perform various combat maneuvers from a distance, such as targeting an object to knock it out of a foe’s hand or damage it, fire a distracting shot that barely misses to feint foes, or later on, they can deliver shot to send a foe stumbling back, pin their clothes to nearby surfaces to “grapple” them, or shoot their leg out from under them to trip them.
Naturally, their ability to aim and deal damage with a bow only grows stronger as they master it.
They also learn to keep their wits about them and strike when the opportunity arises, preventing foes from striking while they aim their shots.
Fighting from range means often being fought back at range, and these warriors use their keen eyes and understanding of trajectory to dodge incoming fire.
Some of the most powerful of these archers can unleash a hail of arrows in a cluster, like a one-person volley, raining down arrows with surprising accuracy against multiple targets.
Near their zenith, their reflexes against ranged attacks grows so great that even those that strike home only graze them. What’s more, they can even catch incoming arrows and bolts out of the air.
The most powerful of them, naturally, pick a bow of some kind as their subject of their weapon mastery, becoming true legends with such a weapon.
This archetype is a perfect example of what a lot of fighter archetypes, especially their early archetypes are: specializing in a particular combat style even more so than they already can being a fighter. Being able to perform combat maneuvers at a distance allows them to inhibit foes in addition to just damaging, making them better at supporting melee characters in the party while also not having to worry about the initial drawback of reprisal in the form of attacks of opportunity if they lack the proper feat (though said feats are useful for making you better at said maneuvers.
Speaking of feats, there’s a surprising amount of variety in archery-themed feats, allowing some variance with the builds. From the overwatch style letting you punish multiple foes for their actions, to clustered shots letting you hammer past the DR of foes, to empty quiver style letting you be mixed ranged and melee without ever switching away from your bow. Additionally, though the nonmagical alchemical arrows are a somewhat lackluster option at higher levels, especially for their price tag, specific magical arrows can go a long way towards the “archer superhero gadget arrow” vibe if that’s what you’re going for.
Being such a skilled archer can have so many origins stories, from a talented and skilled soldier to a hunter to a performer perfecting their prowess for the spotlight to even those that use archery as a meditative martial art. No matter their origin, all can agree that awareness and focus are the roots of their profession.
Local sulfur deposits in the kingdom of Brakiss have given rise to the invention and popularization of firearms. Local archers have had to up their game, honing their skill with the bow to uncanny levels to compete with the new technology. When a pro-firearm noble turns up dead with an arrow in his back, the race is on to hunt down these expert snipers, or to prove their innocence.
Castle Tormaigg has been long abandoned, but it remains as it was in its heyday, a masterfully constructed fortress. A kobold tribe has moved in, and is currently renovating the interior into a gallery of deathtraps, guarded by expert kobold marksmen perched atop the parapets.
The race for martial superiority between warring nations is an endless one. The magic-rejecting Flightviper lizardfolk clan, known for their skills with archery seek the secret of their elven neighbors arcane archer death arrows to add to their already impressive mastery of the bow. The question is not whether they will be able to overcome their superstitions of arcane magic, but rather, what havoc could they create with this newfound power if they do.

Enterprise characters' dnd classes
a part of this series
Archer: fighter. not really a competition imo. Archer is the most "yeah let's just go fuck around" out of all the Captains we see. he has a pretty obvious violent streak (as we see in the season 3 hunt for the Xindi). he also really tries to act morally by fitting things into a black and white world view which slowly evolves as we get to season 4.
T'Pol: monk. i already said how Vulcans are very monk-like in my Voyager post and i think T'Pol fits that mold pretty well, especially in the season 4 arc on Vulcan where she's forced to confront Vulcan spirtualism and eventually accept it.
Trip: artificer. i've mostly been sticking to the player's handbook classes because that accounts for most of my dnd knowledge but Trip is undeniably an artificer to me. he isn't necessarily formally trained nor does he really have his skills through instinct or some other force. he's just a tinkerer who got very very good at what he does.
Malcolm: fighter. Malcolm is the most traditional fighter you can get in Star Trek. he comes from a military family, he follows orders, and he doesn't really have some grand moral framework. he shows up and defends his ship and his planet the best he can because he can never really be anything else.
Hoshi: wizard. indisputably a wizard. she's maxed out in intelligence and shows it given the fact that she literally invented the universal translator and is a capable enough engineer despite never really training as one.
Phlox: druid. just. just look at the amount of animals in his sickbay. i really don't know how Phlox keeping a zoo on board is efficient in the least but it's undoubtedly where his power comes from. also because he's the only alien crew member other than T'Pol and feels out of place the way a druid outside of their natural environment would.
Travis: ranger. oh. poor Travis. i'm so sorry you got like 3 episodes of focus despite being a main character. that said i think a ranger build works well given that he was raised in space without a lot of attachment for Earth and has a lot of ingenuity when it comes to exploring.

what dnd class are you[r ocs]?
tagged by @alexxmason, @voidika, @socially-awkward-skeleton, @cassietrn, @jillvalentinesday, and @deputyash to do this fun little uquiz!
tagging @purplehairsecretlair, @aceghosts, @adelaidedrubman, @madparadoxum, @locustandwildhoney, @testyfestyenthusiast, @strangefable, @inafieldofdaisies, @josephslittledeputy, and anyone else wanting to give this quiz a go!
f;lakfdjaf I had this post all ready to post last night but then. accidentally hit my chromebook's power button instead of backspace (they're right on top of/under each other) and uh...had to do it all over again. so here they are
Tumblr media
ROGUE. You are a Rogue, a skilled adventurer who uses guile and expertise to your advantage. You are often seen as stealthy and precise, aiming for your opponent's weakest points, but you can master various other skills to aid you on your journey. While you tend to be underhanded and greedy, you can also be daring, clever, insightful and charismatic.
*considering rogue (assassin) is one of the classes I would build syb out as (the other two being gloomstalker ranger and battlemaster fighter), yeah...accurate. she's very much a "hit 'em fast and hard" kind of combatant. dex/str/con are 100% her top 3 stats (followed by an ok wisdom score, meh int, and nothing higher than a 10 for charisma a;lfdkjadf). and of course she'd have the soldier background :)
Tumblr media
WIZARD. You are a Wizard, the most learned of the spellcasters. You pursue both knowledge and power with great zeal, but tend to neglect other aspects of life, such as your social life and physical fitness. However, when you do open up, you have as much to offer to the conversation or party as anyone else.
*if Paola got anything other than wizard I would have been astonished. i think order of scribes with the sage background is how i'd class her out. also...I enjoy the idea of her partnering up with a version of charlie that's a monk/barbarian or monk/fighter (ie, I like the idea of mr. cutter being a bare-fists brawler. she is casting spells to help him win <3
STEFANO VESTRI (DND npc in the game i'm running...just for funsies)
BARD. You are a Bard, a spellcaster whose magic comes from artistic expression. While you aren't strictly the best at anything, you can easily be second best at whatever you put your mind to. You are creative but somewhat cowardly compared to most adventurers, but with the right party you can shine as a supporting player.
*al;fkdjafds dragged for filth. stef is indeed a Bard (which I'm sure is shocking to my players lmao). not good at anything. kind of a coward. some how charming nonetheless. he's just a floppy and foppish little guy <3

Cyrus Hawke | Wood Elf | Gloomstalker Ranger/Champion Fighter | He/Him | ~250
Tumblr media
What is your Tav’s…
FAVORITE WEAPON: sword + shield, although he's currently wielding the myrkulite scourge flail for the extra necrotic damage + the adamantine shield. I like giving Cyrus the Pelorsun Blade in Act 3, but I kind of want to stick him with the Sword of the Emperor bc. I am not immune to reclaiming weapons out of spite and saying 'i will do better with this' and also getting to kill the Emperor with its own sword.
MOST PRIZED POSSESSION: Cyrus has two things left from his parents that he's been able to keep through everything: an iron dagger from his father enchanted against fey and an Evermeet family heirloom locket from his mother.
DEEPEST DESIRE: When Cyrus left Iriaebor, he thought he was getting his deepest desire: to live his life on his own terms. It took having that life turned upside down to realize how much his solitude had cost him, despite how often he had told himself that he was better off alone. He still wants peace and quiet and to stop hurting, but more than that, he wants those things with Wyll.
GUILTY PLEASURE: super long & luxurious baths
BEST-KEPT SECRET: In addition to being the Champion of Iriaebor, Cyrus was also known as its butcher for his role in slaughtering the enemies of its ruling lady, to whom he was once sworn as a Paladin of Devotion.
GREATEST STRENGTH: Resilience
FATAL FLAW: Self-reliant to a fault
FAVORITE SMELL: Lavender
FAVORITE SPELL OR CANTRIP: Hunter's Mark (killing you killing you killing you), with Goodberry as a runner-up. Not that he has that spell in-game anymore but he will always have it in my heart and I wanted a space to share my headcanon that (a) goodberries' taste is dependent on the caster and (b) Cyrus' goodberries taste like lavender, with a strong initial cedar scent and a slightly burnt aftertaste.
PET PEEVE: Lying
BAD HABIT: Not accepting help
HIDDEN TALENT: Despite his equivocating and his complicated history with it, Cyrus is actually quite the talented dancer, once he's had the time to enjoy it for himself.
LEISURE ACTIVITY: Gardening
FAVORITE DRINK: Non-alcoholic-- tea; alcoholic-- brandy
COMFORT FOOD: Barley & mushroom soup
FAVORITE PERSON(S): Wyll
FAVORED DISPLAY OF AFFECTION (PLATONIC AND/OR ROMANTIC): Service & physical touch; Cyrus has become a very private man with his affection, but everyone knows the lengths he goes to to keep the camp and their supplies in order, and the longer everyone journeys together, the more evident it becomes that Cyrus is quietly keeping track of everyone's health needs and is always ready with medicinal teas and herbs when they're called for.
As for physical affection, that's still an honor only bestowed upon Wyll Ravengard, but Wyll knows that as soon as they're alone together, he is getting hugged and cuddled and smooched and massaged and adored non-stop.
FONDEST CHILDHOOD MEMORY: The first time he can remember his parents saying they were proud of him. After a narrow and dangerous escape from his father's archfey patron when Cyrus was maybe 10 years old, his mother thanked him for making things so easy by not fussing or complaining, and his father told him he was doing such a good job as the light of his family's life.
I was tagged by @the-eldritch-it-gay (thank you!! <333) and will tag @hexblooddruid @covenscribe @ididitforthedogs & anyone else who wants to fill out a lil Tav questionaire

i really enjoy your opinions on different builds! build-wise, do you have a favorite character for each campaign? (simply build-wise, so i suppose the question would be better phrased as "favorite build per campaign")
Hi anon!
Campaign 1 is hard simply because between the cast learning the system and there not being a huge number of options, most of the builds were pretty simple. Percy, Pike, and Keyleth don't really have many build choices at all - they're all good builds, and the players played them well, but it's pretty much as simple as "this is my class and subclass ok done" because Pike and Keyleth are both prepared casters. Grog taking fighter levels is solid but fairly straightforward. Vax gets points for narrative integration but it was so item-dependent and base assassin rogue is so weak. I am torn between Vex and Scanlan and I think I'm calling a tie, which I also am going to do for C3:
Vex makes the most out of a limited base subclass, and the observant feat is an excellent touch. The choices she made for terrain and enemies were well-integrated into her story, as was her choice to multiclass into rogue (assassin rogue as a multiclass for a dex-based combat class is a different story than for base class). Her spell list was solid to the point that she was a strong secondary healer, unusual for a ranger.
Scanlan had a good spread of feats (warcaster and tough) but what puts him here is that he was often the only full caster in a position to cast on the field, since Keyleth was frequently wildshaped and Pike absent. This is incredibly hard for a bard, and his spell list was an extremely good one that had to straddle healing and arcane utility all at once, and he did an admirable job.
Campaign 2 is Fjord; this has been discussed extensively, feel free to check my archives.
Campaign 3 is tough but I'm going for a tie between our Crownkeeper members, Fearne and Orym:
Fearne's level of rogue, while it initially made me take a sidelong glance, is why she rolled that 30 on persuasion this episode, and also is a very true choice to her character. A lot of the rest is, to be honest, the fact that her subclass is one of the best out there, but I've found her spell choices to generally be very well done, she's adapted to the divine damager role (honorable mention to Laura for doing this adeptly with Jester in C2 once Cad showed up), and I have to applaud taking ASIs instead of feats when appropriate. Her stat configuration also makes perfect sense for the character.
Orym as a fighter is strong out the gate but his choices of battlemaster moves make perfect sense for the role he played and are very useful in a party with two glass cannons but also two damage reduction tanks; it's good to have a dodge tank in the mix. His feats are focused on rounding out his skills and his optimized perception is truly ridiculous.

:3 Any class (and subclass) headcanons/ideas/theories for Lark? Vaguely related, I can't stop thinking about the fact the he just whistled up a fucking portal last episode?????
i have always assumed lark was a ranger, which is one reason why i was so flabbergasted by grant being the kiddads' ranger. i still think he should be a ranger, a horizon walker ranger specifically, even if it would be dumb and unbalanced for them to have two rangers. literally it makes the most sense. lark is the most ranger guy ever. however, i already made a full post about ranger subclasses for grant, including the reasoning for horizon walker that also applies to lark (namely what you said - WHISTLING TO SUMMON A PORTAL? HORIZON WALKER TYPE SHIT.) SO i will delve into some different ideas instead
if he's not a ranger, then i would guess that he is a fighter, battle master subclass, or a rogue, assassin subclass, with likelihood (in my opinion!) being in that order. thats the tldr. heres the long version LOL:
fighter - fighters are known for being able to wield a wide array of weapons, which makes sense for lark, since he is such a doomsday prepper. he would want to be able to use any weapon he got his hands on. also, indomitable fits lark really well in my opinion. if we wanna talk gear, i'd probably give him chainmail (flavored as bullet-proof vest), two martial weapons (two daggers), a light crossbow and 20 bolts (flavored as a pistol and ammo), and the pack i'm not sure on. i dont think im gonna do gear on every single class but its just part of being a fighter to me to consider that-- subclass wise, we have a few options, listed in order of most to least likely (subjective.)
battle master - the most likely one to me, though now that sparrow seems to be set up as more of the leader than lark, that might change (though i do think that maybe sparrow just takes the head in talking since he's more. uh. sociable than everyone else rn LOL). given how much enemies monologue in dndads, 'know your enemy' would be a super useful skill, and i think if he was spec'd out similar to gerard from neverafter (mostly in the ability to grant other players extra attacks), this would make a lot of sense for him.
champion - listing this because on a meta-level, its extremely easy to play, which makes it an easy pick for anthony. however, i dont think it fits him character-wise because lark would never heal himself LMAO though, to be fair, i dont think the kiddads will ever level up that high
arcane archer - not the best subclass, but very cool to me, and fitting for how all of the kiddads are gun-heavy. banishing arrow would be super useful and fit the general theme of planes and dimensions.
eldritch knight - not as likely, but i think it would be sooo so cool for lark, especially if the eldritch part came from his connection to the doodler. ohhh the drama of gaining power from the eldritch being you swore to eradicate… plus, we get LARK CASTING MAGIC, even if its not as powerful as anything his family can do! so cool!!! this subclass isnt as good for range, but i could see anthony allowing war magic to apply to ranged weapons rather than just blades for the cool factor.
samurai - in general, this subclass is not lark. however, i wanted to mention it because i think their 18th level ability 'strength before death' specifically is very lark. basically, if you get knocked down to zero HP, you can use a reaction to get an entire turn and then you go into death saves. theoretically, you could use this to heal, but its lark - he absolutely would use it to go down swinging.
rogue - other people have made this point for me, but rogues are good for guns if you flavor hand crossbows as such. i actually dont really like rogue for lark, but i dont have a reason why LOL it just doesnt really? do it for me. however, i agree that its likely to fit due to what we know about lark, so i will play my own personal devil's advocate here. i think it makes sense for lark to be the sneaky attacker while the others draw most of the attention, especially since it seems like there would be three magic users (terry jr, nicky, and sparrow) in the group. magic can be used sneakily, but im sure nicky and sparrow at least would lean towards showiness, lol. plus, i think it would be really interesting to flavor 'slippery mind' as like, lark growing a resistance to the doodler after so many years under its influence! once again, subclasses are listed most likely to least likely.
assassin - this works from both an in-character and a meta standpoint, and from what i've seen, this is what people mean when they say lark should be a rogue. its an easy subclass to play, so its good for an NPC. character-wise, with lark's extreme paranoia, it makes sense that lark would spend time studying how to most efficiently kill people. he doesn't want to risk anyone in a drawn-out fight, he's not grant. he just wants things dead as fast as possible.
scout - am i just saying this one is likely being its the ranger-flavored rogue subclass? maybe. but like liSTEN LARK SHOULD BE A RANGER HE IS LITERALLY A RANGER HE IS-
phantom - not very likely, but SEVERELY COOL from a character standpoint. walk with me here. phantom is a rogue subclass where you talk to the dead, but imagine that reflavored as lark being able to talk to like, eldritch beings, even beyond the doodler? or like, maybe the spirits of those killed and used by the doodler? holy SHIT!! it would be COOL.
unfortunately none of this has an explanation on lark whistling a portal Which Is Why He Is A Horiz- [shot] im guessing he has a magical item tho!!!
