Eddie survives the Upside Down by sheer force of Steve Harrington's will. He, Robin, and Nancy come upon Dustin sobbing over Eddie's very alarmingly still body, and Steve doesn't even hesitate to heave Eddie over his shoulder and carry him to the gate. He refuses to think about whether or not Eddie is dead and this is pointless — he'll be damned if he doesn't try everything. They manage to get Eddie through and escape themselves before the earth starts ripping itself open, and Steve carefully lays Eddie on the bed in the RV, tearing down the road at an ungodly speed, driving straight for the hospital.
He's so singularly focused on not letting Eddie die that he doesn't remember about Erica, Lucas, and Max until he watches in horror as a gurney carrying Max comes flying through the doors of the emergency room, Lucas and Erica running behind it. The nurses stop the Sinclairs from following her through to the surgical wing, and Steve hurriedly vacates his seat, pulling the two kids into a hug, apologies pouring from his lips. Eventually, he stops babbling, and everyone takes a seat, Steve wincing as he does so.
The bites on his sides still smart, but he can — and will — wait to get seen himself until he hears something about Eddie. When they'd shown up, Steve carrying Eddie bridal style and screaming for help, everyone around them had thought Eddie was dead; after getting him on a gurney, a nurse yelled at everyone to shut up as she pressed a stethoscope to Eddie's chest, and the next thing Steve knew, Eddie was being wheeled away from them to surgery. Dustin had fallen to his knees, appearing to be praying to anything listening, and Steve nearly joined him. Somehow, Eddie was still alive. Steve refused to be seen until he knew that was still the case.
Hours pass before they're allowed in to see Eddie; when they are, it's somehow more horrifying than the moment Steve had found him cradled in Dustin's lap. Eddie is still motionless, but now he's paler, there's what looks like a hundred wires coming out of his body, and a tube is breathing for him. Steve hazily registers the doctors explaining that the blood loss was significant, as were the wounds littering Eddie's body, and that it's going to be a waiting game to see what happens next. He startles when he hears the gentle comment that if Eddie doesn't wake within a week, it's unlikely he ever will; Steve refuses to even consider that as a possibility.
Nancy manages to talk Steve into getting his own bites cleaned and stitched, which turns into taking him home for a shower and a change of clothes; they're still driving the stolen RV, and when Steve pulls back into the hospital parking lot, he hesitates before climbing out. Eddie's denim vest is still sitting on the sofa, bloodstained and ripped all over. Steve digs through the cabinets of the RV until he finds a sewing kit, and brings the vest inside with him.
He carefully washes out as much of the blood as he can in the bathroom sink, and plops into a chair at Eddie's bedside, pulling out red thread and a needle from the sewing kit. Nancy, Robin, and Dustin all exchange looks before simply sitting in silence, watching Steve carefully begin to repair every tear in the fabric.
Eventually, Nancy gets a hold of Wayne Munson, who enters the room, sees Steve hard at work on his project, and doesn't say a word — he just pulls a chair up next to Steve's, claps him on the shoulder, and reaches out to pat Eddie's leg through the hospital blankets. Neither Steve nor Wayne leave their spots other than to use the bathroom, and nobody tries to make them.
Three days into Eddie's hospital stay, the door opens, and Eleven, Jonathan, Will, Mike, and someone Steve doesn't recognize enter the room. Steve looks up, unblinking and on the verge of unseeing, before turning his attention back to the vest; two small hands reach out and cover his, and it's only then that he registers who's standing in front of him. Eleven is looking at him sadly, and hesitates only briefly before she leans forward to hug him.
He grips her tightly, and takes a shaky breath before holding a hand out toward the Byers brothers and Mike, and sooner than anyone can blink, there's a massive huddle of arms enveloping Steve. For the first time since leaving the Upside Down, Steve lets himself cry; nobody comments at it, nobody even acknowledges it — other than Eleven, who gently wipes his face with her sleeves when they finally separate.
More chairs are dragged into the room, and suddenly Eddie is the most popular patient in the hospital — tied with Max, of course, as the group takes shifts between the two rooms. Steve and Wayne are the only permanent fixtures in Eddie's room, just as Lucas and Erica are the only permanent residents with Max.
Steve finishes patching the tears in the vest, but Eddie hasn't woken up yet, so his fingers itch to keep going. He pulls out a spool of white thread, and outlines the jagged stitches he made before, carefully working his way over the entire vest once more. When he finishes that, he grabs black thread, and repeats the process.
He's in a sort of trance as he stitches away, conversations happening around him but sounding like they're miles away. It's not until someone physically stops his hands moving again that he realizes the words are being directed towards him; confused, he looks up and jolts so strongly he nearly tips his chair backwards. The person who stopped him working this time is Jim Hopper, and for the first time since the doctor gave them the stupid timeline, Steve feels hope. If Hopper can come back, Eddie can too. Eddie can too.
On day 6 of Eddie's coma, Steve speaks for the first time, tired eyes looking at Eleven beseechingly. "Can you... will you see if he's still in there?"
Eleven takes the bandana Wayne passes her and ties it over her eyes, one hand gripping Eddie's, the other intertwined with Steve's. She focuses on the steady beeping of the heart monitor and the wheezing of the oxygen pump, the sounds allowing her to drift into the in-between. She finds Eddie curled in a ball, hands clutching his sides, tears silently streaming down his face.
As she did with Steve, she gently reaches out and wipes his face clean, and waits for him to acknowledge her; he eventually looks up at her and his eyebrows furrow. "Who are you?" he asks, voice scratchy with disuse.
"Eleven," she says, holding out her hand to you.
"Henderson's friend?"
Eleven nods. "Come. Time to leave here. They're waiting for you."
She pulls Eddie to his feet and starts walking forward, focusing her hearing until she can isolate Steve's breathing pattern under the din of the hospital machinery. Her eyes fly open under the bandana, and she rips it off, turning to look at Eddie expectantly. For a moment, there's nothing and then —
Eddie starts choking on the breathing tube, Wayne starts yelling for a doctor, Steve breaks down in fresh tears, and the kids are cheering.
It's hours of examinations later that Steve is finally able to return to his seat at Eddie's side, everyone, Wayne included, giving him a minute alone with Eddie. When he enters, he notices Eddie is holding the vest, tracing his fingers over Steve's haphazard stitching.
Sheepishly, Steve raises a hand to rub the back of his neck. "Sorry," he mumbles. "I did the best I could."
The stitches zigzag across all the places the fabric had been slashed, both by demobat talons and sharp bushes in the Upside Down forest, and Steve's work has it looking like branches of lightning working their way across the vest. Eddie shakes his head and looks up at Steve, eyes wide and shining. "You fixed it."
Steve shrugs and Eddie shakes his head again. "Harrington.... Steve. You... you fixed it. For me."
Steve inches forward in his seat, and reaches out to grab one of Eddie's hands. "I dunno, I kinda think I fucked it up. But I could tell when you threw it at me that this was something that was important to you. I didn't let that place take you away, why would I let it take your things?"
Eddie laughs, head thrown back against his pillows, hand squeezing the absolute life out of Steve's. When he finally settles, he looks at Steve bashfully, head dipped down just enough that he's looking up at him through his eyelashes. "Talk about a declaration of unambiguous true love," he whispers.
Steve doesn't seem surprised or put off by Eddie's assessment; in fact, all he does is beam at him before lifting Eddie's hand to his face, pressing a featherlight kiss to his bruised knuckles.
"Take me out on a date first, Munson. Then we can start throwing words like love around."
As the room fills with the sound of Eddie and Steve's laughter, the rest of the group filters back in, including Lucas pushing a wheelchair-bound Max; Steve looks around at all of them and sighs around a soft smile.
They won.

Thoughts about Striker being a "supremacist:"
On the surface, he's sort of a social class activist/ Robin Hood archetype. I think he truly thinks of himself this way. But when Blitz calls him a supremacist, who's he a supremacist against exactly? It's imps. This guy hates imps (and also identifies as one, even though he's clearly some sort of hybrid, which is interesting).
Let me show you what I mean. The short version is that he's the self-hating minority bigot trope, and it's executed really well.
Tumblr media
"Blue Bloods"
"Disgusting, rich, pompous goetia"
"Some of us have everything we care about taken away by fuckers like you."
"You don't get to talk over me. . . all you ever do is try to talk over us."
"Once I split your neck open and let you choke on your own blue blood, you won't be worth any more than the tomb stone you'll be buried under."
So . . . first, he doesn't actually say a lot that's solely about royals, and ALL of the quotes above are about how royals look down on people like him, NOT about any inherent flaws that they have. They're about class, not race, unless you count "blue blood" as race. I don't. It's tied directly to money. "Disgusting" comes up in reference to Blitz's relationship with Stolas, but the words "rich" and "pompous" follow immediately. Striker hates royals because he hates that society places them above him.
Tumblr media
Imps
"Pathetic."
"You little things aint worth the cleanup."
"Oh I remember how easy you are to choke the life out of, little one."
"Blitz, come on. You know the two of us are superior to most of our kind."
"I still think it's embarrassing. You're wasting a lot of potential relying on a weak little . . ."
"Vermin"
I think that this is where Striker's worldview comes into clearer focus. He thinks that Moxxie and Millie (and by extension MOST imps) are inferior to him. The word "vermin" is particularly telling. There's something visceral about his disgust for "lesser" imps.
I think Striker worries that they reflect who he really is. I think he truly believes that imps are inferior to higher class demons, and he fears that if he doesn't prove himself to be special (through violent dominance), he's vermin himself.
Notice how in the image below, his edge over Moxxie is all about size and physical strength- the things he implies throughout the episode make him the superior being. Look at that wide smile. He loves the feeling of being superior.
Tumblr media
Relationships between imps and royals
"You are so above sucking on a disgusting rich pompous goetia . . ."
"kill the unkillable . . . starting with the one that treats you like a plaything."
"Blitzy"
"You two are both embarrassments to our kind for meddlin' with blue bloods to begin with. But at least loud mouth here has the sense to only fuck his rich bitch, instead of being a little purse dog."
"This worthless little pet reeks of his over bloated master. I'll at least enjoy getting rid of him."
Striker clearly sees these relationships as imps lowering themselves. It doesn't seem to occur to him even for a moment that these relationships might involve genuine care because he sees all interactions between social classes as being about power and "who wins."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notice that despite in theory caring about the power dynamics, Striker puts most of his shaming language on the imps in the relationships, and uses demeaning language to do it- "embarrassments, purse dog, little pet," as if they're at fault (for being used, in his view . . .?) and should be ashamed.
I thought about delving more into why Striker sees Blitz as closer to his own level, and I think it comes down to the things he values (physical strength, willingness to kill, detachment/independence), which are not the things that we the audience end up liking the most about Blitz. He misses the point of what actually makes our boy great, basically. 😍
I've spent a lot of time reading and watching videos about real life white supremacists because I like to be miserable, and . . . yeah, this character really shares their view that some people are inferior to others, and that the traits that make them inferior are inherent and immutable. The people he hates just aren't the ones he'd have us believe he hates.

List of Fanfic Ideas (Charles/Edwin edition)
I'll be immensely happy if any of you adopt one of those ideas.
Note: I'm gonna start with paineland and made other post for pain land specifically.
They made a pact: on their birthdays, they would always agree to participate in each other's plans. This year, Edwin's birthday schedule includes taking Charles to all the places he had said he wants to visit (or Edwin has mastered how to travel by mirror and is a bit of a show-off about it)
The case doesn't go as they expected. Now, they are trapped in their desguises, sitting in the middle of a wedding, obliged to pretend they're just another happy couple (they have to dance too).
Edwin had talked about the meaning of flowers before, Charles tries his best to remember some of it, but when he goes to the flower shop, he still manages to get it all wrong (or maybe not).
After a couple of years, Charles tries to find Edwin's grave; when he finds it, he makes a habit out of going there to talk when he feels overwhelmed (by sadness, by anger, by frustration, even by love). Spoiler Alert: Someone discovers his little secret.
Edwin had lost count of the times Charles had gotten himself in danger to save them both. This time, he doesn't let it happen again (or Charles goes through the five stages of bi panic after watching his best mate shred a monster to pieces with an sword).
Edwin reads the end of Orpheus & Eurydice's story for Charles after they leave Port Townsend.
That's all for now!

Everyone knew not to trust Regulus behind the wheel. He passed his driving test with nothing but money and a twirl of his hair, not with an actual ability to drive. It wasn't like he minded, he very much enjoyed being a passenger prince. He still wrestled the aux and got to bitch about whoever was driving him like he actually knew what the third pedal did (he was probably told at some point, but he has much better things to remember).
However it sucked when it was too late to get an Uber without pissing someone off and all of his friends were either asleep or plastered. His brother included. So instead he has to stand awkwardly on the sidewalk, waiting for the person Sirius sent to get him. He knew the name of the person, of course he has. The infamous James Potter, who is the light of Sirius' life and an angel on earth. Regulus definitely thought Sirius had a thing for him for far too long until he realized James was a replacement.
All that is water under the bridge now, he doesn't care anymore. But now he's just fucking cold. Maybe going out on a Tuesday wasn't the best idea, but he was bored and wanted to do something that he didn't usually do. And also Barty and Evan came with him (That should have been a red flag considering they hardly got a drink in before their hands were all over each other. They 'only have sex when they're drunk' and 'there's nothing else going on.' safe to say that they have some things to talk about).
He pulls out his phone just as a car pulls up in front of him. He notices but he doesn't care, he's far too busy looking at a time lapse of someone rebinding a book. He hears the window going down, but still doesn't look up until he hears a voice.
"Regulus, right?"
He sighs, rolling his eyes as he puts his phone back in his pocket before actually looking at who is picking him up and. Oh. Okay.
Big brown eyes that match with messy, but charming, hair. James leans over, unlocking the passenger door and all Regulus can focus on is seeing the muscles in his arms flex and he swears that he can see a hint of a tattoo on his shoulder when the fabric rides up.
This is probably one of the only times that he'll ever say something has come in handy with how his parents raised him, his poker face still intact except for maybe a slight blush. Maybe.
"And you must be James." He takes a step and another and one more before James leans over again and pops open the door. Regulus really has no choice but to slip into the car now. It's too late to call Sirius again and beg him to pick him up instead.
"Don't wear it out, love."
This will be fine. Perfect even. Better than driving himself, that's for sure.

He’s not as cold as you think — Hockey player! Kimi Raikkonen x reader
Part three
Fluff
Word count 3k
“Let’s play 20 questions,” y/n suggested. Intrigued by the idea, Kimi nodded, his eyes sparking with curiosity. "Alright, let's do this," he said with a smirk. "I'll go first. What's the most adventurous thing you've ever done, angel?"
Y/n smiled, her eyes taking on a distant but fond expression. "Hmm, I'd have to say skydiving. I've always had a thing for adrenaline but skydiving was just a whole other level of thrill," she replied, her voice tinged with a mix of excitement and nostalgia. "What about you? What's the craziest thing you've ever done, Kimi?"
Kimi chuckled softly, recalling his adventures. "Well, I've done some pretty wild things, but the craziest has to be bungee jumping off the Europabrücke in Germany," he shared with a mischievous glint in his eye. "It was a rush like no other. Your turn again, angel. What's your biggest pet peeve?"
Y/n considered for a moment. "Well, I'd have to say people who don't respect personal space," she said with a light sigh. "I need my alone time and a bit of personal space to recharge. How about you, Kimi? What's something that grinds your gears?"
Kimi thought for a moment before responding. "Well, I'd have to say it's when people break their word. If they say they're going to do something, they should follow through. Trust is important to me," he said with a shrug. "How about a lighter question? What's your favorite childhood memory?"
Y/n smiled softly, nostalgia washing over her. "My favorite childhood memory is going camping with my family in the summer. We'd spend the days exploring the woods and swimming in the lake, and the nights around a campfire, roasting marshmallows and telling stories," she shared, her voice filled with warmth. "What about you, Kimi? What's a fond memory from your childhood?"
Kimi's expression softened as he thought back. "One of my fondest memories from my childhood is learning to drive a go-kart," he replied, his voice tinged with a mixture of nostalgia and passion. "I still remember the excitement of taking my first few laps and the sense of freedom and control it gave me. Are you an early bird or a night owl?"
Y/n considered the question. "I'd say I'm more of a night owl," she admitted with a sheepish smile. "I've always been the type to stay up late watching movies or reading a good book, and I'm at my most productive late at night." She then countered with another question, her eyes twinkling with mischief. "Are you a romantic, Kimi? Do you believe in grand gestures and grand romance?"
Kimi's brows raised slightly at her question, and a smirk played at the corners of his lips. "Well, I'd be lying if I said I didn't appreciate a bit of romance," he conceded, his voice tinged with a hint of playfulness. "Grand gestures can be nice, but what I value most is heartfelt gestures that come from the heart, like the way you make me feel." He quickly redirected the question back to her. "On the topic of romance, what's your idea of the perfect date?"
Y/n's eyes sparkled with excitement as she pondered the question. "My idea of the perfect date would be something intimate and meaningful," she mused aloud. "Maybe a quiet dinner for two under the stars, followed by a moonlit stroll by the lake. Or perhaps a cozy movie night at home with some homemade popcorn and a selection of our favorite films. What about you, Kimi? What would your ideal date look like?"
A thoughtful expression crossed Kimi’s features as he considered her question. "I think my ideal date would lean more towards the casual side," he began. "Maybe a relaxed dinner at a local Italian trattoria, followed by a stroll along the lakeshore, taking in the beauty of the surroundings. And then, just sitting by a crackling bonfire, enjoying each other's company, talking, laughing, and maybe sharing a few stolen kisses under the stars."
Y/n's cheeks flushed slightly at his words, a soft smile playing at the corners of her lips. "That sounds lovely," she replied, her voice tinged with warmth. "I can imagine us sharing stories, making each other laugh, and getting lost in the beauty of the moment. There's something so magical about the combination of good company and a starry night."
As their conversation delved further into their hopes and dreams, Y/n couldn't help but feel a spark of excitement. It was easy to forget that this was about getting to know each other better when the conversation flowed effortlessly and the connection between them deepened with each answer.
She glanced up at Kimi, her heart fluttering with anticipation. "Alright, let's delve into the realm of hypotheticals now," she suggested, her eyes gleaming with curiosity. "If you could choose to have any superpower, what would it be?"
Kimi took a moment to consider the question. "I think the ability to teleport would be pretty useful," he answered with a touch of humor. "Being able to travel anywhere instantly would save a lot of time and hassle. Plus, I could surprise my fans by showing up to games in an instant."
He then shifted his gaze towards Y/n, a playful smile on his lips. "How about you, angel? What superpower would you choose, and why?"
Y/n thought for a moment before responding. "I would choose the power of instant healing," she said, her voice filled with certainty. "Knowing that I could help ease the suffering of those in pain, or even bring someone back from the brink of death, would be an incredible gift. Plus, imagine never having to worry about illness or injury again."
Kimi tilted his head, intrigued by her answer. "That's a pretty selfless wish," he remarked, his voice tinged with admiration. "It shows that you have a deep sense of empathy and compassion for others." He pondered for a moment, his gaze lingering on her face. "But if you could have one superpower just for yourself, completely selfishly, what would it be?"
Y/n pondered the question for a moment, considering the possibilities. "If I could choose a superpower just for my own pleasure, I think I'd choose the ability to read people's minds," she confessed with a small shrug. "It would be fascinating to know what people are truly thinking and feeling, and it might make social interactions a bit easier." She then glanced at Kimi, a teasing grin tugging at her lips. "And just think of the potential for mischief and humor," she added, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
Kimi chuckled at her reply, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Oh, I can see the trouble you'd cause with that power," he mused, a smirk playing at his lips. "You'd know everyone's secrets and could potentially use them to your advantage." His expression then softened, and he leaned closer, his eyes locked onto hers. "But I must say, angel, the ability to heal would be quite appealing too," he added, his voice tinged with sincerity.
Y/n couldn't help but smile at his words, a warmth spreading through her at his genuine statement. "I'm glad you think so, Kimi," she replied softly, her eyes meeting him with a sparkle of affection. As she considered their conversation thus far, she decided to ask one final question, her expression turning a bit teasing. "Alright, Kimi, since we're on the topic of superpowers, let's play a little game."
Kimi raised a curious eyebrow, intrigued by the suggestion. "Alright, I'm game," he said with a nod. "What kind of game do you have in mind, angel?"
Y/n's eyes sparkled with anticipation as she laid out the game. "Let's call it the 'Superpower Showdown,' " she began, setting the scene. "We each take turns choosing a random power, and the other person has to come up with a creative and fun way to use it. The more imaginative and amusing, the better. It'll be a test of our creativity and humor."
A mischievous smirk tugged at the corner of Kimi's lips. "Oh, this sounds like fun," he agreed, his voice brimming with mischief. "I'm up for the challenge. You first, angel. Hit me with your choice of superpower."
Y/n thought for a moment, her mind racing with possibilities. "Alright, how about... the ability to control the weather," she suggested, her eyes gleaming with playful excitement. "What creative and ridiculous way would you use that power, Kimi?"
Kimi's mind raced with possibilities as he mused over her response. "Hmm... so you can control the weather, huh?" He pondered for a moment, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. "I'd use that power to create a personal tropical paradise whenever I wanted a getaway. Picture this: sunshine and warmth, palm trees swaying in the breeze, and the gentle crash of waves on the beach. Perfect for a bit of relaxation and paradise whenever I need it. Your turn, angel… how about the power to talk to animals?." Kimi asked y/n.
Y/n's eyes widened with delight as she considered the possibilities. "Being able to talk to animals would be incredible!" she exclaimed, her imagination running wild. "Imagine being able to have conversations with them and understand their perspective. I'd love to ask a wise old owl for life advice or get some fashion tips from a fashion-forward chameleon. Plus, I could finally find out what my dog is thinking when I give him a treat. My turn now... How about the power to move objects with your mind?"
Kimi scratched his chin, contemplating the idea. "Ah, telekinesis," he mused thoughtfully. "Moving objects with just a thought. That could be quite useful, like never having to get up from the couch to reach the remote. Or," he added with a sly grin, "imagine being able to move objects without making a mess. No more clumsy knockdowns when trying to clean up after a party. Hmmm, what about the power of shapeshifting?" Kimi inquired
Y/n's eyes lit up at the suggestion. "Shapeshifting! Now that's a fascinating power," she said, her voice tinged with excitement. "Imagine being able to transform into any creature or object you desire. Soaring through the sky as a bird, swimming in the depths of the ocean as a mermaid, or even turning into a cat to chase a laser pointer. The possibilities are endless." As she considered her next question, a teasing smile tugged at her lips. "Alright, how about the power of teleportation?"
Kimi's eyes gleamed with anticipation as he considered the power of teleportation. "Teleportation... now that's the ultimate power for getting around," he said thoughtfully. "Being able to move from one location to another in an instant would save so much time and hassle. No more traffic, no more long flights, just instant travel anywhere you want. Just picture me zapping myself from the rink to the beach, then off to the mountains for some snowboarding, and back to my bed in an instant. Now that would be a dream."
Y/n chuckled softly, her eyes gleaming with amusement. "Oh, you'd be quite the globetrotter with that power," she teased. "I can see it now, you popping up in different parts of the world at the snap of your fingers. You'd be like the ultimate traveler, with endless adventures and exciting escapades." A mischievous flash lit her eyes. "Alright, my turn. How about the power of invisibility?"
Kimi's eyebrow arched in intrigue. "Invisibility," he pondered, a wry smile playing on his lips. "Well, that could come in handy. Picture sneaking into the locker room unnoticed to prank the teammates. Or, imagine the ultimate stealth mode on and off the ice. No more unwanted media attention or nosy fans." A playful glint twinkled in his eyes. "A little mischievous, but it could be quite amusing. Your turn, now. How about the power of time control?"
Y/n's eyes widened as she contemplated the power of time control. "Time control... Now that's pretty awesome," she mused. "Being able to slow down or speed up time would be incredibly useful. Imagine having all the time in the world to finish an assignment or having extra hours in a day to catch up on sleep. Plus, it could be quite entertaining to play pranks or freeze time and mess with people." A mischievous giggle escaped her lips. "How about the power of mind reading?"
Kimi's eyes gleamed with curiosity. "Mind reading, huh?" he mused thoughtfully. "That could be both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, it would make communication easier and allow you to understand people on a deeper level. But on the other hand, it could be overwhelming and invasive. Imagine hearing everyone's inner thoughts and secrets without a filter. It could lead to some awkward moments at the rink or even in our personal lives." He playfully raised an eyebrow, offering her an opening. "Your turn, angel. What about the power of superhuman strength?"
Y/n's eyes widened with excitement. "Superhuman strength would be incredible," she agreed, her voice brimming with enthusiasm. "Imagine the possibilities. You could lift heavy objects with ease, and you'd be unstoppable in sports. Picture me beating you in a game of hockey for once," she added, her tone teasing. As she considered her next question, her eyes glittered with mischief. "How about the power of super speed?"
Kimi's smirk widened at the thought of zooming around at super speed. "Super speed, huh?" he mused, his voice tinged with a hint of excitement. "That would be quite the game-changer. Picture me whizzing around the rink during a game, scoring goals, and setting new records. Or, imagine zipping through traffic in a flash, no more traffic jams. It could also come in handy for playing pranks. Just zoom in and out without anyone noticing. Alright, angel, the ball is in your court. What about the ability to create and control fire?"
Y/n's eyes gleamed with mischief as she imagined the possibilities. "Fire manipulation, now that's a powerful ability," she mused. "I could create and shape flames at will, from small sparks to infernos. I could become the ultimate pyrotechnics expert or a one-woman fire show. Imagine lighting up the rink with dazzling, colorful flames during our games. It could even be useful in everyday life, like instant barbecues and never-ending bonfires." She then arched an eyebrow, setting her gaze on Kimi. "How about the ability to control the element of water?"
Kimi's eyes sparkled with intrigue as he considered the element of water. "Oh, water control is a powerful one," he mused. "It would be like having Aquaman's abilities. You could create waves, currents, and whirlpools at will. Imagine flooding the rink and turning it into a temporary swimming pool during practice. Or, you could become a master of snow and ice creation for your skating shows. It could also come in handy for cooling off when it's sweltering hot outside. Now, my turn. What about electricity control?"
——
As the early morning sunlight began to seep through the curtains, Kimi's eyes widened slightly in surprise. "Well, would you look at that," he said, his voice tinged with mild surprise. "We've been up all night talking and exchanging questions." He chuckled softly, a warm smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "Time flies when you're having fun, doesn't it?"
Y/n matched his smile, her gaze meeting his with a mix of exhaustion and contentment. "Indeed, it does," she replied softly, her voice carrying a touch of fatigue. "It's hard to believe we've been chatting all night. But it's been lovely." She gently stretched her limbs, a small yawn escaping her lips. "I must admit, I'm pretty exhausted, though."
Kimi nodded in agreement, his gaze holding a touch of understanding. "Same here," he admitted, a hint of weariness in his voice. "But I wouldn't have wanted to spend that time any other way." He let out a soft chuckle, adding a playful tone to his words. "Maybe we should make this a regular thing – staying up all night talking, swapping stories and questions. Who needs sleep anyway?
Y/n couldn't help but chuckle softly at his playful remark. "Oh, absolutely," she replied with a smile. "Who needs sleep when we can stay up and keep each other entertained with our questions and tales? We'll be the ultimate insomniac duo, conquering the night one conversation at a time."
Kimi chuckled, a mischievous gleam in his eyes. "Insomniac duo, I like the sound of that," he agreed, his voice tinged with playful amusement. "We'll be breaking records for the longest and most random conversations ever. The hockey world won't know what hit them when they find out about our nightly adventures.
Y/n's laughter grew louder at his words, her exhaustion momentarily forgotten. "Oh, I can already picture the headlines: 'Insomniac Duo Takes Over the Night with Endless Conversations.' They'll have to create a new category in the Guinness World Records just for us."
Kimi joined in her laughter, the joyous sound filling the room. "Oh, that's even better," he exclaimed, his voice filled with mirth. "We'll be legends among insomnia experts and world record aficionados. We should start planning our victory speech for when they make us the official insomnia champions."
“Yes yes we should but we should also maybe try to get some sleep I am exhausted,” y/n said stretching and yawning her eyes watering.
Kimi nodded in agreement, his fatigue evident. "You're right, angel," he said, a touch of weariness in his voice. "We've had an amazing night but sleep is kind of essential." He stifled a small yawn himself, a slight smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "Let's save the victory speech for another time and get some rest."
Y/n nodded, her exhaustion catching up to her as well. "I couldn't agree more," she agreed, her voice tinged with fatigue. "Sleep beckons, and we've already defined it for far too long. Maybe we can pick up where we left off tonight when our minds aren't so foggy with sleep deprivation."
Kimi chuckled softly, a touch of teasing in his voice. "Oh, I have no doubt we'll find something to talk about when we wake up. It seems we can make even the most mundane topics interesting." He let out a small yawn, his eyes growing heavy with sleep. "But for now, sleep it is. Sweet dreams, angel."
Y/n smiled warmly, her eyes mirroring the exhaustion in his. "You're right, we can turn anything into an adventure," she replied, her voice laced with mild amusement. "Sweet dreams to you too, Kimi." She settled into her spot, the promise of a refreshing slumber beckoning her. With a final exchange of weary smiles, they surrendered to the gentle embrace of sleep. Their minds, filled with memories of an enchanting night spent in each other's presence, gradually drifted into peaceful oblivion. The room was bathed in a soft tranquility, undisturbed by the quiet breaths that filled the air.

I have been chatting with a couple of my Lovely Runner folks about how the soul remembers even when the body doesn't, because spiritually speaking, it does make sense. I won't bring the detailed theological discussion and significance in here but personally I'm on board with this notion. There's this idea that souls are formed before the body, in the realm of the unseen. Some souls are like "conscripted soldiers", meaning that when they are sent down to the earth, they'll gravitate toward each other every time they're given the opportunity. Of course there's free will and agency at play when the body and mind are factored in, so one can still move away from another, but that connection always exists deep down in our subconscious. This explains why irl we feel instantly drawn to certain people whereas we just "don't like the vibe" of someone we barely know/have not had a particularly bad experience with.
True: in the context of the show, it doesn't do a great job explaining why the soul-memory would apply to Seon Jae since these aren't memories he actually ever made if we're being super technical. These are all from different timelines (and not different 'lives' like we see in reincarnation tropes, mind you) but I guess they took some creative liberty to show that even these memories that are apparently "erased", can never actually be erased and get stored in the realm of the unseen instead (think of it like a cloud bin for recovering deleted files if you will).
We can find a plot hole here if we get down to the nitty-gritty and to be fair, the time travel/time slip rules are still a bit vague to us as the viewers of the show. But I choose to happily move past with this explanation we get through Haelmoni because they really did a great job executing this (and I love how the person to talk about this is Grandma, of all people :')

This is going to sound really strange but the most recent GRWM video has. Some of the best Janus characterisation I think we’ve seen in a while?? Also he canonically sheds now, so
You are not wrong, anon: this is the best characterization in a while. It's way better than the last one, in which Janus was mostly a drunk idiot, and it's way worse than SvS. This one sits in the middle: it's not bad, it's not amazing. It's good.
Just like Mr. Sanders' last videos regarding Sanders Sides, this GRWM is okay. Not groundbreaking, not impressive, not deep, not stupid. Just okay.
And trust me, this is the best possible outcome! When I found out Thomas was planning a video with Janus and it was a GRWM and Janus had questions to answer... I wasn't just scared, oh no. I was absolutely terrified. I feared to see the destruction of Janus' character. I feared to see him being all like: "YASSS QUEEN all I love is WINE and nothing else, also being SASSY is my religion BIATCH".
And we got a bit of that, sure. But it was a bit, not the avalanche I expected. I was bearable.
After all, this is just a random video. There's nothing plot-related here. Heck, there's not even too much Sanders Sides stuff, because this GRWM clearly was Thomas' attempts to reconnect with the character. I shouldn't care too much about it. I shouldn't overanalyze it.
But you know me: you know I love to over-analyze. And if you know me, you also know that Remus is my favorite child, but Janus has a special place in my heart and if one little thing about him is off I will start rambling.
Hence why I will overanalyze the shit out of these 9 minutes of a video and I will do what I shouldn't do, i.e. look back into the past's characterization. Not for shaming Mr. Sanders for not remembering it (even if the videos still exist and he can watch them too if he wants), but to remind you all of Janus' personality. The public needs to remember what kind of character he was and who he became.
So I'll over-analyze everything and no, you can't escape. You're stuck with me here, so put your seatbelt on, because you're in for one of the things I love the most: talking about Janus.
The importance of nuance
Let's talk about make-up a little bit. Don't worry, by the end you will understand my point.
The current make-up isn't even comparable to the past one. And if a lot of people complain about it and prefer the old one, it's not because they're all demanding: it's because of nuances.
Let me explain and let's start with the current photo Mr. Sanders showed to promote the GRWM video:
Tumblr media
If you look at this make-up, your eyes will inevitably be drawn towards that sharp black line. And as soon as you will look at it, you will immediately register it as a drawn line.
It's so clear and so evident it's a line, I can literally see the black liquid eyeliner, the tip and the hand tracing that line on Thomas' skin.
But this line isn't supposed to be a line: it's supposed to be/resemble a snake's mouth.
Now, look at the past make-up:
Tumblr media
The line isn't sharp black: the line is nuanced. You can see a bit of brown and a hint of red/pink to give it depth and emphasize the shadow.
Also, this color is very similar to the little shadow given by Thomas' upper lip on the lower one, so it looks more natural against his skin tone. It doesn't seem like something added on him, but on something that was already part of him. And isn't that the goal of make-up? To add something and disappear, so people won't notice it exists in the first place?
Look at the eye as well: the past one is a softer, more nuanced pink. It looks more natural, against Thomas' skin tone. The present one is so dark, it looks more like a bad bruise.
So the problem with the current make-up isn't just that the colors aren't the same: it's that the current colors are too much. They're too sharp, too saturated and, consequently, too fake. It's clear that Thomas wears make-up, while in the past the blend was softer, the colors closer to Thomas' actual complexion. Consequently, the make-up faded and gave us an illusion of reality.
I know Mr. Sanders had skin conditions and everything, but I'm talking about colors and nuances here. Two things a make-up artist should know better than me, an idiot on the Internet who loves art, color theory and learns from artists on the web. You can obtain these things independently of the used products.
So my opinion on the make-up would be: please Mr. Sanders, switch for softer tones, no sharp black and no coral. Too much. Nuance is the key.
And not just for make-up.

The fakeness of reality tv
Janus enjoys reality television because nothing about it is real. His specific words are:
I very much enjoy reality television: the scheming, the plotting, the lying. Every person for himself and even on top of that, all of the production none of reality television is actually real. It's just delightful.
I get the idea behind it and I understand why Thomas thought it was a good choice. On paper, it works: Janus should enjoy this kind of show because it's made of lies and he's Deceit.
But if I follow this line of thought, I inevitably meet with Janus from Into the Unknown:
[Patton]: Well yeah I guess you'd like it, everyone all dressed up, disguised as someone else... [Janus]: How is it we've had so many of these visits and you still know so little about me?
Janus himself said that not everything associated with lies is something he enjoys. And it makes sense, because Logan too said the same thing in the last Aside:
"Is that all I am to you? The reading guy?"
So now I'm asking: why does he like reality tv? Just because it's fake? Then why is he so happy about it being fake? Reality tv should represent reality, it should mirror how society works. And thanks to SvS, we know Janus doesn't hold society into high consideration:
[Deceit]: Society itself is a lie! (...) You get enough people to share a piece of land and breathe the same air and... you've got a society. Why? It's just a bunch of people in the same general area. It's an abstract concept, as real as the monster under your bed! But we obey these rules or get punished for breaking them. All in the name of society. It's absurd and terrifying.
Just like society, reality tv has a group of people put together and they make a society. It's an abstract concept, as real as the monster under your bed. And these people must obey the rules or get punished for breaking them.
And yet, Janus doesn't think reality tv is "absurd and terrifying", but "delightful".
Again: why does he like it? Why does he like something so similar to what he hates most?
Maybe you can live with the "It's fake" explanation and that's good for you. But what if instead of liking reality tv because "it's fake", Janus likes it, because it perfectly mirrors the flaws and the emptiness of society? What if he enjoys it, because he loves the irony of society using its own means to unmask itself and show its real face? What if he watches it, not because "it's delightful", but because it's bittersweet to see such an inability to understand your own flaws?
Which explanation do you think is more fitting for his character?
---
Remus eats glue sticks
Of course he does. His digestive system is probably able to digest molten lava, so glue sticks are a walk in the park for him, bless his chaotic soul <3
(Have I already said Remus is my favorite boi?)
---
The possibilities of shedding
Okay, the "Have you considered not having pores?" is hilarious and I love it on multiple levels.
Well, here we are. Janus sheds, two to four times a year. And I know the fandom went crazy over this and I'm happy for you... but I never really cared too much about it.
I mean: it's fine, but I can't really think of anything truly special to headcanon about it. Snakes shed their skin all the time and they just chill around, while slowly peeling their skin off. It's not dangerous, it doesn't hurt, it's just exfoliation time✨. I mean, does it hurt you, when you remove sunburnt skin? Don't think so. The worst thing for snakes is probably not being able to take the skin off with hands, since they don't have hands.
But hey, this is canon now, so I should probably integrate it in my headcanon. And I can do it in two different ways:
The shedding is just part of Janus' routine: twice a year he gets one day off, takes a reeeeally long bath and slowly peels off his skin until he's done.
I can take inspiration from this fanart and imagine the shedding as a real "leaving your body behind" process, in which Janus slowly gets submerged into his room and re-emerges as a form of pure power and instincts, which then solidifies into a new body. I think I like this idea more, because when I go with Janus, I need something that makes him look either more god-like or more monster-like.
And since we're talking about snake traits, how many more does he have? Because I already added a few on my list, like:
sunbathing
climbing trees
laying everywhere (especially on trees)
taking long relaxing baths
And I'm just waiting for an excuse to add "mating". But I suppose only future will tell.
---
What you don't like
"An important aspect of being oneself, in addition to knowing what you like, is knowing what you don't like and saying to that thing: ew get away from me, I don't like you... Roman"
Okay, that was genuinely funny and it made me smile, so kudos for that, Mr. Sanders. It was a clever move and I enjoyed it.
Also, for more reasons I will explain further down, this makes me want to write a conversation between Janus and Roman, to study how they work together, why they don't like each other and their personalities in general. My only problem would be to put it on a timeline, because I don't like to write things suspended in a temporal vacuum. If inspiration strikes, maybe I'll do it.
---
Religion... and self-preservation
Now, I don't know who made that question about Jesus Christ, but you. You. You gave me real fear... but also indirectly confirmed one of my headcanons, so thank you, I suppose.
I was bracing myself, waiting and hoping Thomas didn't say anything stupid, because Janus and religion have a super tight bond and one misstep can lead to me rambling for the rest of my life, all while throwing canon into the trash because no one can say anything wrong about the relationship Janus has with religion, not even Mr. Sanders.
But the answer was... okay. Harmless. A bit simplistic, maybe, but I can accept Janus saying that Jesus is cool for having followers and turning water into wine.
What really struck me the most was when he said Jesus is his style because "he refuses to die".
For me, that's the most important part of the video. You can take away everything else, because this is the only part that matters for me.
Why? Because this is the essence of self-preservation. Because, as I said in the past, self-preservation is that force that protects you from dangers, threats, even yourself. And it protects you from death. It's part of that intrinsic will to live that defines all living creatures.
So, since Janus encompasses this role too, it has always been implied (at least for me) that he's that force that will fight against death until the end, just to make Thomas live a little longer. In my headcanon, he literally refuses to think Thomas can die before his time, because he's built to not make this happen.
Hence why when I saw Janus putting such emphasis on the idea that Jesus refuses to die made me immensely happy, because it's (implied) canon. Janus refuses to die, because he will never surrender to death. Because it's his nature, to never surrender to it.
---
Deceit or Ego?
The snake telepathy part was fun when mentioned, then it was followed by the "memememe I'm gorgeous" part, which is perfect if you're the representation of Ego, a bit less if you're deceit.
Speaking of that, I think there's a bit of confusion in Thomas' mind regarding these two aspects. And since they're represented by two different Sides, the contrast is even more jarring.
Janus is confident and this is part of his personality. But confidence isn't repeating "me" in your head 400 times and telling yourself that you're gorgeous and handsome even when sitting still. This isn't confidence, this is Ego. This is something Roman could say to himself... and he did it, in the past. He looked at himself all the time, called himself gorgeous, asked if his makeup was okay because the prince's gonna slay, said he dramatically serenaded himself in front of the mirror. All these things are a constant reconfirmation of yourself and this is what the Ego does: it constantly reconfirms you're great and cool and gorgeous.
Confidence, on the other hand, doesn't need constant confirmations. If you're confident, you already know you're great, you don't need to repeat it yourself. You just do your things and if others criticize you, you shrug their reprimands off.
One example of confidence from this video? This part:
"What are my guilty pleasures?" Guilty pleasures? Why would a pleasure be guilty? I've got none of those. Indulge in your pleasures guilt-free, people: life is short.
This proves Janus is confident, WAY MORE than him repeating how cool he is. This is the tone he should've had for most of the video, not that "Oh, look at how cool I am".
Also because it may seem a paradox, but the more you repeat how cool you are, the less people will believe you. That's why people who constantly show off are perceived as weak and insecure: because they search for a constant reconfirmation they would probably never need, if they were truly confident.
---
All of the selfcare - and what else?
Aside from the things I already mentioned, the rest of the video is mostly made of advice like "your opinion is the only one that matters/others are less than you/don't give a shit about others".
I don't know if this is Mr. Sanders making a reminder to himself to not indulge in criticism too much, but okay, let's ignore it XD
These pieces of advice can all be traced back to another aspect of Janus' personality: the self-care one. The last canonical one.
And since it's the last, I can understand why Thomas latched onto it and made it be like 60% of the video. It's probably the part of Janus' character he remembers the most.
And it's the easiest too, along with the "sassy" aspect. Put them together and you get the sassy queen who tells you to relax dear, don't give a fuck about the rest of the world.
So I understand you, anon, when you say this is the best characterization in a while: it is, because it's based on the last canonical piece of Janus' character, mixed with the "sassy" aspect that developed more recently. Of course it seems more coherent with Janus' character, compared to him being drunk for an entire video.
But even if canonical, self-care is just an aspect of Janus' personality and it makes most of the video. The remaining part is a huge amount of Ego, which shouldn't even be here, because it's Roman's trait.
And the other aspects? Nowhere to be seen. No distaste for society, no cryptic language, no wittiness, barely any lie, barely any real confidence, barely any body language and zero foreseeing ability.
I know what you're thinking and yes, I said at the beginning that this video is clearly just a way for Mr. Sanders to reconnect with the character. So I understand why Janus' personality is like that and that there are mistakes or incomplete things. I am not blaming Thomas for trying.
I am writing this post, to remind you Janus' full personality. To remind you that he's not just "sassy wine aunt/self-care queen".
On the contrary, I think present Janus is exactly like his make-up: the traits are similar to the original one, but the aspects are too sharp. They should be here, they are part of him, but they're not in the exact shade or nuance to be him. They are similar, but off, because something is missing. And that something is nuance.
In the end, that's what this post is all about: nuance. Past Janus was more nuanced, because he was more than one aspect. Present Janus is less nuanced, because he's stuck between two aspects - which is a truly cruel irony, considering his entire thing is being a gray, multifaceted character.
My only hope is that, just like with the make-up, Mr. Sanders will find a way to bring nuances back into Janus' character and make him at least similar to who he used to be.

How do I portray two people falling in love slowly when neither of them really understands love or has ever truly been in love/loved by anyone? Like, they're both slowly learning what love is and how to love with each other.
Learning What Love Is via Falling in Love
Every person and situation is different, and it also depends on what kind of love we're talking about here. If you just mean that they haven't experienced romantic love, that's a different situation than someone who also didn't grow up in a loving household.
Didn't Grow Up in a Loving Household - Sadly, some people reach adulthood without having experienced consistent and unconditional love from the people who raised them. This can lead to a constant fear of abandonment in adult relationships (including friendships, work partnerships, familial relationships, and romantic relationships), which can result in putting up emotional barriers ("putting up walls") to avoid being vulnerable and giving someone the opportunity to hurt them by giving love and then taking it away. It can also lead the person to pursue unloving /unrewarding relationships, intentionally or not. So, a person in this situation has truly not experienced love, or if someone did genuinely love them, they wouldn't have believed it.
What's important to remember about someone like this is there's a difference between never having experienced love--or not believing it was real when it was being experienced--and not knowing or understanding what real love is. Unless your character lives under a rock, odds are they have been exposed to healthy loving relationships of all kinds over the years. They have associated with people (be they friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, or characters in media) who love and are loved by others... they've spent time with married friends who truly love each other, they've witnessed their neighbors' love for their children, they've read books or watched movies with romantic plots or subplots... So they can recognize love, they just fear that they are undeserving of love themselves (because it was never given to them consistently and/or without conditions) or they're too afraid to trust that love is real.
Some things to consider when portraying this situation:
1 - Awareness of childhood emotional wounds/impact on relationships matters. Many people tend to be aware of their childhood emotional wounds and have some understanding of how they impact their relationships, even if they feel somewhat helpless to change things. Many people seek to heel from these emotional wounds either on their own or via therapy, and that would certainly impact how a person moves through a healthy romantic relationship.
2 - What's different in this case? You'll need to figure out (and portray) what makes this relationship different. A good bet is that these characters feel a kinship due to sharing similar emotional wounds from childhood and having had similar impacts. That doesn't necessarily mean they won't still build walls, be free from fears of abandonment, or will believe the love is real right off the bat, but that recognized kinship creates a bit of traction for the healthy relationship to build and also creates a bit of a mutual safety net... "they won't hurt me because they don't want to be hurt by me."
3 - The subtle signs of love will be the same but probably more reserved, hesitant, and slower. This will be a real "slow burn," and there will probably be some setbacks relating specifically to fears of abandonment and issues of self-worth and trust. The Subtle Signs of Romantic Interest and Love Guide: Writing a Slow Burn Romance Guide: Characters Falling in Love Guide: Creating Romantic Chemistry
Grew Up in a Loving Household But Hasn't Experienced Real Romantic Love - Even when people do grow up consistently and unconditionally loved by those who raised them, people can still get off on the wrong foot with romantic relationships. This can especially be the case when a first romantic relationship isn't loving, because it can lead someone to be in a string of loveless relationships. In this case, the emotional trauma will probably be more subtle... they may not even be aware of it unless a wise family member, friend, or therapist has pointed it out to them. The person won't feel unlovable, they'll feel like they're just not worthy of romantic love. They also probably won't have the same trust and abandonment issues, but rather a disbelief that any show of romantic love must be insincere--like the person must have ulterior motives or something.
In this case, too, it's not that they don't know what romantic love is or looks like. It's not that they don't understand it. It's just that they don't feel like they're deserving of it because no one has ever given it to them before (even if someone did and they simply didn't believe it was real). So the obstacle here will be for the character/s to learn to trust one another, and again--if they have that kinship of having emotional wounds related to love (you could even have one character have an unloved childhood and one character never in a loving romance if you wanted) is still what gives it traction. The links above still apply, again you're just doing things a little slower and navigating the obstacles related to the resulting issues.
I hope that helps!

do you still ship Val with both Mugman and Cuphead? actually give us a run down of all the Val ships
Here's the thing, yeah? Val is like a little doll that I use to kiss all my favorite Cuphead characters 😤 and because of that, there's probably way more than I am currently remembering at the moment. BUT here's some of the ones that have been on my mind:
Val/Cuphead - Met in high school detention, stayed really good friends afterwards. LOVE to cause trouble together. Real "I can make him worse" vibes. In the same breath, Val would probably pick up on Cuphead's moments of weakness and be there for him without being too overbearing about it.
Val/Mugman - Best Friend's Brother. Val got to watch Mugman go from just Cuphead's twin brother that she never knew too well to Kind of a Hunk?? Val slowly gets more and more nervous around Mugman, and he picks up on it and absolutely EATS UP the attention. Cuphead HATES it, but that makes Mugman want it more??
Val/Chalice - I think it would be Val who starts pining for Chalice first. They're two peas in a pod; very cute, trouble-causing cups, who will sit pretty on the edge of a wall and giggle quietly to themselves, talking about the toons who go past. Val would help Chalice do her makeup 💕
Val/Boba - This one is a comfort for me!! Very "omg they were roommates". Complimenting each other in the best ways where Val gives Boba confidence and Boba bounces sarcasm and jokes back to Val. They are each other's better half :)
Val/Mac - Mac is similar to Cuphead, but a lot kinder and wears his heart on his sleeve more. I can imagine it being a very quiet, unspoken, mutual pining type of relationship. They'd hold hands under the table. I think they'd have their first kiss on the Isle Two Ferris Wheel.
Val/Smith - Now, Smith is similar to Mugman, but a lot rougher! Smith has his sour personality, but he'd probably have a sweet spot and playfully pick on Val instead :) I like the dynamic of Smith (a very rough and tumble country toon) slowly falling for Val (an uptown, pretty city toon). He'd teach her how to ride a bull 👀
Val/Ludwig - Ludwig has this silently dangerous air about him that intrigues Val (he does know something about everyone, after all). He's probably one of the only toons on Isle Three's city district that Val doesn't see as some stuck-up snob. And I always had this image of Val draped over a piano in a nice dress while Ludwig plays (*/ω\*)
I also think I could figure something out regarding Val and some of the bosses (the ones that come to mind are probably Chef Saltbaker, Djimmi the Great, maybe even Cagney Carnation??) but I'd need more time to workshop it.

What if the Knox and Chris sub-plot had meaning?
WAIT NO GUYS IM SORRY PLEASE HEAR ME OUT I BEG PLE-
Okay I'm starting this post off by restating my downright hatred for Knox. I do not like his character, what he did was wrong, it's creepy and fucking disgusting. I will however like to talk about how his relationship with Chris could have potentially added to the story.
We all know (at least I hope) that practically everything in this film has meaning. I had spent ages wondering why they thought it was a good idea to include this frankly ridiculous sub plot to the story. And then I thought about it. Like really thought about it. I don't exactly remember what I was doing when I thought about it, but I do know that I had DPS playing in the background. (I initially thought about this on April 7th. It is May 29th when I am typing this up.)
So, here are all my reasons as to why I think they added the Knox and Chris sub-plot!
My first point is about this scene:
Tumblr media
I believe that this line could be a form of foreshadowing. Yes, it is Knox being a dramatic and insufferable prick but it also feels like it could be more. Obviously it isn't Knox who dies in the end, but the idea of not being able to have something leading to suicide feels very important to the story.
Neil is unable to achieve a career in acting because of his father. As well as this, he is being taken away from his family. His real family. By not being able to have this thing that he so desperately wants, he feels like there is no other solution than death.
Knox says that if he can't have Chris he will kill himself, Neil has practically everything he loves stripped away from him- he cannot have it. So... He kills himself. There is a lot of foreshadowing in this film that hints to Neil's death at the end of the film and I do truly believe that this is a part of that foreshadowing.
My next point is that it is used as a form of contrast.
We see that Knox is extremely open about his attraction to Chris... In a multitude of ways, repeatedly throughout the film. Whether his actions that show his attraction are good or not is a different matter (Knox... God how I hate you.)
Arguably this is used as a juxtaposition. Knox (and Chris?) are relatively open about their attraction to one another- while Neil and Todd are very closed off about it. It is never explicitly stated that Neil and Todd like each other in that way, but through subtext it is heavily implied.
Why might this be? Well, considering the film is set in 1959, it could be because homosexuality simply wasn't legal at this point in time. Neil and Todd weren't allowed to be open about liking each other. Being open about it could put them in danger, they had no choice but to stay quiet.
However, as well as a contrast, it poses similarities between Knox and Chris and Neil and Todd. By setting up this contrast, it only brings to the surface some quite significant similarities.
Because let's be real.
How can THIS be a look of true love...
Tumblr media
And THIS not be?
Tumblr media
Or falling in love or admiring one's beauty or WHATEVER you want to call it. That's not the point. The point is, they're not that different.
You can see similarities between Knox's behaviour towards Chris and Todd's behaviour towards Neil (and vice versa). One of the main similarities is, well, how they look at one another. I personally don't see how the way Knox and Chris look at each other is true love but the way Todd and Neil look at one another is just... Them being roommates.
The juxtaposition between the two sets of people (I didn't know how else to say this) just doesn't seem accidental. The constant mention of Knox's feelings and love towards Chris just makes the way Neil and Todd interact more obviously... Romantic? Loving?
Their love is stated to allow the audience to see how similar they are to Todd and Neil, while still sticking to one of the key concepts of the film - conformity. Neil and Todd having to conform to societal standards, not being able to share their love for one another.
Knox's feelings for Chris are explicitly stated, repeatedly, because Todd's and Neil's can't. It makes it more noticeable. Neil and Todd's feelings can't really be stated due to the law. So they do it with Knox instead. The similarities can be seen throughout the film in how Knox treats Chris and how Neil and Todd treat one another.
Because again, how can Knox look at Chris like that and that show that he is in love, but Neil look at Todd like that and that just be... Them being friends?
The answer is, it can't. Not really.
Although Knox is a lot more explicit with his feelings towards Chris than the other two are with one another, the feelings they have are the same. Whether it is portrayed in the same way or not, it's love.

Surge and Kit Redesigns
(based on various things I like in their concept art!)
Notes/Headcanons
Surge The Tenrec
Nonbinary Lesbian (They/She), 18
Kept her blue nose from the concept art! (I just thought it was a cool addition to her design overall! I dunno, looks nice!)
Gave her her baseball bat because It's cool and I like it (It compliments her brutal and gritty vibe. She can also charge it up using her powers!
The jacket isn't as hot as you think it'd be!
My friend said the clothes under look like a prison jumpsuit and I am.. tempted to say that that's canon.
Her love language is bullying.
Probably has ADHD and HATES standing still for too long if she isn't doing something cool.
She likes baseball :]
She still has the logo on the back of her jacket! I just forgot to add it.
Tumblr media
Kitsunami The Fennec
Demiboy AroAce (He/It), 13
Once I learned that the red striped glove from concepts was based on the diver flag I KNEW I had to add it.
Tumblr media
Gave Kit back his big ears because I think they're silly (and ngl the reason Sega requested to take them out was.. kinda dumb? Side Note about this: If he COULD fly with those ears that doesn't mean he knows how to)
I gave him the dot eyes! I think it adds to him that while his face is mostly covered his eyes look more intimidating but if you flip up his hair he's just ._.
Has autism and lets Surge do most of the talking for the both of them.
Kit is honest to a FLAW and will often tattle to whoever (Starline or Surge) Starline still doesn't remember if he's just "like that" or it's something he added.
Has gills somewhere on his body and is able to breathe underwater

I think its fascinating to see the timeloop posts here because of how they're all clearly inspired by Groundhog Day (and SPN, and Russian Doll, etc.) where the loop is a force created by something exterior in the universe and it happens independently of any action taken by the protagonist.
I'm more used to timeloops as they usually exist in anime (Madoka, Steins;Gate, Revue Starlight) where the timeloop must be actively maintained by somebody completing a goal each loop, and then they themselves must reset the loop each time. Which is why they are the only ones to remember it.
And it really makes such a huge difference in how you talk about the tropes! There's no "dying in the time loop" because the protagonist is the only one who can't die. Everyone else is expendable, as long as the protagonist is still alive they can try to save them next time, but it creates this amazing ethical tension of the drive to save others and the requirement for that to be to keep yourself alive at all costs. The actions and lives of others are functionally meaningless unless they help or interfere with the loop.
And it also makes for a story that isn't about being trapped by universal forces, but trapped by their own hubris or obsession. In the anime style loop, they could stop any time, but they can't because they havent gotten it right. Stopping the loop would mean accepting that they failed, that the person they keep trying to save is dead, that they never prevented the horrible outcome they were afraid of.
I think both styles of time loop are really fantastic and lend themselves to very different types of stories so heres my invitation to work in the timeloop-by-choice into your tropes!

Falin?
something i really like about falin is her existence for the majority of the story being entirely via what other people tell us about her. i'm pretty sure that's classic well-written "haunting the narrative" type stuff, but it still really appeals to me. it's fascinating seeing the various facets of a character represented almost entirely by how other people remember them - with the character themselves having little to no input on the way they're remembered and talked about.
an obvious point of comparison, to me, is rose quartz stevenuniverse - a character whose death and absence defines the narrative, presented as almost ridiculously perfect initially, and is slowly revealed over time to not be the simple, perfect "loving damsel" deal. obvs falin's deal isn't about slowly being revealed to be a very harmful person and the cause of almost all of the pain in the setting, but you see the comparison.
one part of falin's flavour of "haunting" that stands out to me is the way that the two characters who know her best - laios and marcille - both knew completely different parts of her life. this is part of why i bring up rose quartz - in SU, we learn about her the same way steven does. everyone else has mostly complete information about her, though obvs not 100%, and it's almost entirely about steven's discoveries. meanwhile, laios and marcille both have very incomplete pictures of falin because they both knew her at completely different stages of her life. they learn more about one of the most important people in their lives from each other, and grow closer to each other (and her!) as a result. it's really cool.
there's another element to it, but it touches a bit on endgame dungeon meshi spoilers, so
particularly interesting to me is how falin has an entire character arc while spending the majority of the story being dead (literally or spiritually). and that arc ties into the entire idea of her being this dead character, absent from the narrative and from her own agency.
falin's arc is about learning to take up space, to want and to need, to be open about her desires. it's kind of similar to how the inciting incident of the story allows laios to be open about his desires and interests in a way he hasn't been before, but stretched over the story's timeframe. part of why the characters learn about falin from each other is because she lived her life closing herself off from people to make herself more palatable. it's why the inciting incident is her own self-sacrifice for the people she loves!
but so much of dungeon meshi is about learning to open up to others, to share parts of yourself, and to share in parts of others. it's about eating, and choosing to eat, and how eating is living, and choosing to eat is choosing to live, and choosing to be eaten is choosing to die so something else can live.
it's why at the end of it all, falin revives because she chooses to eat, and chooses to live. chooses to take up space, and to make herself a presence in the world. just think about how she dresses and carries herself at the start of the story, vs how she does so at the end/in post-story materials.
i like falin :>

If you don’t mind, can you explain why you want Israel to be abolished? Not in the anarchist sense of ‘I want all states abolished as an ideal’, but actually wanting it dismantled while states are still a thing. I think that’s your view anyway— I remember that, in the post heritageposts and his minions went after you for (really sorry about that btw, I’ve also been harassed on here but luckily haven’t had one of the big bloggers come after me), you said that you want Hamas to surrender and then after that have Israel dismantled. You don’t have to reply if you don’t want to, I’m just trying to understand that view a little more when it’s not egregiously Jew hating, even if I won’t agree with it, and also you seem like a very nuanced and compassionate person. I hope you’re doing well, and have a nice day!
It is very much in the anarchist sense. I don't think Israel is the only state that should be abolished; I think we should get rid of all nation-states. It's not something I've really had the opportunity to talk about much outside of the Current Situation so I understand that it may have come off like I think Israel is singularly...idk. Dismantle-able. I think we tend to think of these things in terms of immediacy; countries that are currently at war are constantly teetering on the verge of collapse and are therefore primed for anarchy. On the flip side we also often forget our political idealism when real people are suffering. No non-Jewish anarchist is calling for Hamas to be dissolved, despite the fact that they ostensibly abhor centralized government in all its forms. To them Hamas is the final bulwark between Israel and total decimation of the Palestinian population and so calling for them to step down in the anarchist sense is tantamount to signing the death warrants for everyone in Gaza. They're wrong, but the idea is sound. You can't defeat the mechanism that allows people to organize at a national level while its people are currently endangered. That's why I've said no "revolution" can precede peace which is where I differ from the Hamasniks who think the revolution will bring peace (because they don't care about the safety of the Israeli population). Ultimately I think liberalism is like a sword: it's a tool that I need because everyone else has one, much as I would rather none of us needed on in the first place.
Sorry if this is incoherent, I haven't haven't had my coffee yet. Tl;dr is: Would I like to see all nation-states including Israel be abolished? Yes. Do I think that will happen? Not in this lifetime, especially not with the Current Situation. So I'm not going to go around pretending it is, because then everything I do will be utterly useless

I have an idea I would love to request but I want to check with you first because it's quite different from my other requests & it's also quite self-indulgent of me 🤣
It's about gn!reader who is terrified of everyone at first because everyone's first impressions weren't great but they still tried to be optimistic that the brothers aren't so bad. They value their family so they did their best to help despite how rude most of them can be.
But every time Reader attempt to help, they always suffer somehow. Lucifer's threats about harming his brothers, Lucifer, Mammon, Leviathan, Satan, and Asmodeus's rude behaviour, Lucifer, Leviathan, Satan, & Beelzebub's near attempts of killing them.
Reader has a deep fear of everyone because everyone is ignoring what has happened to them despite how much they tried to address it & mostly being called paranoid or a scaredy-cat despite nearly dying from helping the brothers.
So they avoid everyone unless it's for meals or they're called for something. They would interact with the brothers if it's something important though.
If not, Reader is in their room studying since everything in Devildom is new to them & Lucifer is strict about their grades. At most, they hang out with Solomon, Luke, or Simeon because they didn't do anything to be afraid of them.
Reader doesn't dare to even make eye contact with them before running away let alone interact with them if possible. They would wake early on purpose to go school alone than to be with them. So how would the brothers react to their behaviour?
Please tell me if you're not interested! I would understand if you're not 👍 - Romance Anon
This is actually really interesting, because that's exactly the opposite of what my MC would do during the game (I'll explain her lore in the future, along with my other OCs') and also what any person with self-preservation would do.
I wonder if you're asking for headcanons or a one-shot. I was planning on doing a multichapter fic with my MC, a retelling of the game, but imagine how it would be to have two exchange students: Lilith's descendant, your version of the MC, and my MC, who's doing everything in her power to die.
Tell me what would you like me to work on, but I like the idea. I think I've seen a hcs post, but I don't remember the writer, where the MC tried to be friends with the demons, but they ignored them and then regretted it.
What makes sense to me the most is if the MC didn't want to engage with the demons at all and they didn't think about it until the angels and Solomon started talking about their friendship with MC.

Lack of redemption arcs in the Legendarium
Surprisingly, I can't find many, if any at all.
I mean real redemption arcs ie character is evil / has done done serious evil at the start and they put actual work and things happen and at the end they're less evil and do less evil (or none at all).
(And ideally, they don't die at the completion of the arc but separately later or not at all.)
I don't mean things like "did evil things out of trauma it ignorance" (therapy or education is a different thing from redemption. All are great, but different people need different of those.) or "did one very minor thing and is sorry" (it's not an arc, it's something smaller). I mean the real deal.
There are implied redemption arcs (elves in Mandos in general), something that feels like a referenced arc but never described (Osse), a heavy edited story that at one point kind of feels like a redemption arc (Galadriel), failed attempts (all the baddies especially Smeagol and Mairon)...
I don't remember book Boromir well, maybe he... But he's not evil, just a little weak. He does very little wrong. He's more serious than makes bad choices.
Elu Thingol sort of has an arc on "don't be racist against humans" but then dies partially at being racist against dwarves so I'm not sure that counts either.
Lobelia Sackville-Baggins, whose greatest crime is being a mean relative. I guess this counts?
Even in Numenor, nobody gets it.
I know it's a modern trend to give everyone redemption arcs, but I would expect, with all the talk about mercy and pity, to see some actual results, more results than "yay, we got the evil defeated because we were good to the bad guy". With all due respect. That's a big result too. But anyway.
I suppose Tolkien just didn't vibe with bad people. He survived the war and I guess it needed more... How to call it? More thinking on terms of "if you cross this line, you're lost". I know theoretically he didn't see it like this. But in practice, you may only go so far (and it's not far) until you're beyond repair.
I don't like it. It's not how the world works. I went further.
Also, another thing that irks me tremendously, but it's an observable rule in all Legendarium:
When your aesthetic is dark or wrong, you are beyond salvation.
You like industry? Bye. You don't like light? Bye! You look ugly (not plain, just ugly)? There might be a few exceptions of Elves who went through Angband, but generally: bye. You don't laugh and feel uneasy in company? Out to the void with you, go join Morgoth. You are depressed and not in a nice (Frodo) way, but in a cold way that makes you feel cynical? Bye. You live at the East and like sun more than noon? You're probably evil too.
I may be oversimplifying a bit, but not by much. It is a thing.
That's not how things work!!!
Seriously. I was there. I was all those things. I am dinner if then still and don't consider it a problem.
I hate this in the books. I love Tolkien's work and what he tried to do, but I feel like I'm some places he failed at it dramatically and the general feel it's not faithful to his intentions.
I hope this rambling is understandable enough, I'm bad at English, especially when ranting.
Luckily, there are fanfics
