The second came for the third, Left the bat without a bird, Little birdie on the floor, Won't be flying anymore, Break his legs and his wings, Feel them crack with the swings, Let them find it in rhyme, Daddy Bats is out of time.

The Shitty Cartoon Moms Showdown!
Hey y'all! Have you been following @shittycartoondadshowdown and wondering whether there's a mom version? Well, there is now, and it's run by the same person!
Rules:
The character MUST be animated. This includes anime, Western cartoons, and animated movies. It does not include video games or Homestuck.
Submit as many characters as you want, but don't submit the same character multiple times.
I will cap it at 32 moms. Each poll will last 24 hours and will be tagged under #shitty mom showdown.
The character doesn't have to LITERALLY be a mom, but must function primarily as some sort of mother figure. For example, Shadow Weaver (from She-Ra and the Princesses of Power) would count because she raised Adora and Catra, and many of the things she taught them are described in canon as "mom stuff." She is already included, so you don't need to submit her.
Beatrice Horseman (from BoJack Horseman) is also already included.
There can be only one character per media (so Beatrice's inclusion automatically disqualifies Princess Carolyn's mom, Todd's mom, Diane's mom, etc).
Submit a mom here!
Submissions will close on Sunday, March 12.

Spooky Tooth Co-founder, “Dream Weaver” Gary Wright Dies at 80
- Keyboardist and singer collaborated with George Harrison and Ringo Starr
Gary Wright, the Spooky Tooth co-founder who pioneered synth rock with 1975’s the Dream Weaver, has died.
Wright was 80 and had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and dementia.
Ambrosia, the band that backed Wright on his final gigs, called the musician “a big part of our hearts,” in announcing his death.
“Gary's iconic music added so much to our shows, and we always enjoyed having him with us,” the group said.
Wright was an original member of Spooky Tooth before going solo. Former Traffic (and later, Fleetwood Mac) guitarist Dave Mason said,” there’s a certain (and sure) brotherhood from those days, during that incredible era of rock ’n’ roll.”
“He leaves us all with great songs and was one of the good guys in this business,” Mason said of Wright. “I’ll miss this lifetime friend. Blessings, Dream Weaver.”
Wright collaborated with George Harrison throughout the 1970s, beginning with All Things Must Pass. His biggest solo success came with his 1975 album, the Dream Weaver, whose title track and “Love is Alive” became Wright’s best-known songs - numbers he would perform with Ringo Starr’s All Starr Band in the following century.
“Gary's vibrant personality and exceptional talent made every moment together truly enjoyable,” Stephen Bishop said. “His legacy will live on for many years to come.”
Wright released his final solo album, Connected, in 2010.
“May Gary Wright rest in peace and love,” Todd Rundgren’s Spirit of Harmony Foundation said.

Random headcanon’s, because I can
Wick/ just the og for this one, and maybe some au’s too…
Warning: past abuse and neglect before death and uh… that’s kind of what I got.
____________________
Tim weaver knows his own family’s footsteps.
Tom knows too but not as well as Tim. Each time a family member walks past him and his twin, he knows which is which based on their footsteps alone.
Hurried rushed footsteps seemed tricky, but that never really bothered Tim all that much, results are still the same and he gets it right all the time. Yet he’s still getting the hang of Travis and Sam being around mount Todd.
But overall, he’s getting better and Travis and Sam’s footsteps don’t bother him as much anymore. Although it does surprise travis… it never surprised sam at all, like he knew how Tim knows whose footsteps are whose.
____________________
It feels kind of right to add this headcanon, I mean…
The twins aren’t only neglected but also abused as well, it seemed right to add this to the twins.. and with Tim protecting Tom from most of what Mary throws at them, it makes sense for this to be something for Tim.
I want to put a warning up for this cause I don’t want to accidentally trigger some people that might come across this on accident and saw no warning.
… plus I just talked about how their abuse might be, so there’s that-.

Hi ! Just saw your tags in the women in horror movies post, would you mind, when you have time, giving me your recommendation in horror movies ? It's a genre i'm learning to appreciate and i'll be curious to know what your favorite are ! Hope you're having a good day !
Oh nooooooo, you’ve activated one of my trap cards.
So the fun thing about horror is that it’s truly a diverse genre with many different places to start. I hardly feel qualified to make a rec list, because I feel like there’s still so much I haven’t seen??? So the below is by no means comprehensive, but hopefully it helps get you started! Also please feel free to talk to me about horror anytime, haha, I would love to know what you think if you get around to watching any of these.
The Classics: -The Blair Witch Project. The inception of found footage horror. -Halloween. The first slasher I ever watched. John Carpenter made this on a shoestring budget and the behind-the-scenes story is so fun. Plus, Jamie Lee Curtis’s breakout role. -Candyman (1992). Tony Todd is so sexy in this, but also it’s a great horror story about the power of myth, and an exploration of racial dynamics in Chicago. -Poltergeist. Has its issues but ultimately a very fun movie about a family working together to try and rescue their daughter from evil spirits. There’s a very famous scene with a clown doll. You’ll know it when you see it.
Women and horror: -The Perfection. Queer and deeply messy. An exploration of how art can still be used as a system for abuse. Tw: implied sexual assault, self-harm. -Ginger Snaps. Explores the struggles of two teenage sisters via werewolf metaphor. Love this one. -The Witch. Ominous and atmospheric. The horrors of being a girl raised in a religious fundamentalist family. -Jennifer’s Body. A cult classic that’s been validated/revisited in more recent years. Also queer and messy. Transplants the dynamics of teenage girl best friends into a horror movie setting. -The Babadook. Queer internet icon, but also an exploration of mental illness and the horrors of motherhood/the fear of being a bad mom. -The Descent. Do not watch this if you’re claustrophobic. A group of women go cave diving and discover creatures lurking beneath the earth. I think of certain shots/scenes from this movie often. -Black Christmas (1974). A sorority house is stalked by an unknown killer over the holiday season. Probably the one slasher that still scares the hell out of me, mainly because of how it chooses to depict its killer. Also more political than you’d think, featuring an abortion subplot in the 70s no less. -Us. Lupita Nyong'o should have won an Oscar for this one. -Hereditary. Ari Aster has his flaws as a filmmaker (who doesn’t) but this movie is like……really good. Toni Collette knocks it out of the park. Tw for GRAPHIC depiction of child death and suicide. Movies that personally scared the hell out of me: -Oculus. The fun thing about horror as a genre is that everyone has specific tropes that personally freak them the hell out. This movie dug its nails into one of mine and would not let go. -Parasite. People will probably argue that this is not a horror movie so much as a “thriller” but this movie felt like a borderline panic attack and filled me with despair, and if that ain’t horror, I don’t know what is. Sci-fish horror: -Nope. I really think this might be Jordan Peele’s best movie. Two fantastic lead actors, and dense with ideas, worth watching more than once. -Alien + Aliens. Sigourney Weaver should be enough of a selling point. The first two movies are famous, and they fully live up to the hype.
Personal faves: -Trick ‘r Treat. I watch this every October. A ton of fun. -The Lost Boys. 80s vampire camp, and kinda gay tbh. -Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula. This film is darkly, gorgeously sumptuous. Just a spectacle of practical effects and costuming, and I highly recommend checking out the behind-the-scenes features. -The Silence of the Lambs and Manhunter. Lambs being my problematic fave for years. Manhunter is the best adaptation of Red Dragon hands down (no disrespect to NBC’s Hannibal.) -Rear Window. Because while Psycho is good, it’s also a problematic fave. Plus Rear Window was the first Alfred Hitchcock movie I ever saw, and it holds a special place in my heart for that alone. -The Invitation. The most uncomfortable dinner party in a film I’ve ever sat through. A slow burn for sure, with a terrifyingly good payoff. A movie about grief, unreliable narrators and primarily, the horror of no longer knowing people as well as you thought you did. Tw for suicide/self-harm. -Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight. I adore the first few seasons of the Tales from the Crypt TV series, but you don’t need to watch any of the show in order to enjoy this standalone movie. It’s silly. It’s gross. Billy Zane is having the time of his life as the villain, plus Jeryline is one my fave final girls in horror. -Hellraiser (1987). I adore Clive Barker as a writer (if you like to read horror too, please, PLEASE check him out) and I love that he got to direct his own feature film. This movie is gross, horny as hell, and unlike anything you’ve seen before. Misc recs: -Jacob’s Ladder. Surreal, nightmarish and tragic. Hard to talk about this one without giving too much away. Would recommend going in blind and letting it unfold. -Possession. This movie is Nuts. Even harder to talk about this one. Isabelle Adjani especially carries this film with her performance. -Barbarian. Probably my favorite new horror movie I watched last year. An examination of rape culture that didn’t feel exploitative (rare in horror.) Also some of the most bizarre plot twists I’ve seen. Go in blind. -American Psycho. Still my favorite role of Christian Bale’s to date. Funny: -Tremors. Horror is a fantastic space for practical effects, and it’s really, really hard not to love all the work that went into operating the giant worm puppets. Also hard not to love the queer platonic partnership between Kevin Bacon and Earl Bassett’s main characters. -What We Do in the Shadows. Also rec’ing the TV show, but the original film still holds up and is funny as shit. Animation: -Perfect Blue. Satoshi Kon is one my favorite creators of all time, and this was the first feature film he made. Tw for an implied/simulated rape scene. -Paranoia Agent. Not a movie but an 11 episode anime series, also from Satoshi Kon. A mixing of genres, but tied together with a horror-themed premise and tone. I fucking love this show.
I don’t know if they’re available internationally as a streaming service, so it might depend on what country you’re in? But if you’re looking to get into more horror, I would def recommend checking out Shudder. They’re strictly horror-focused, with a wide variety of film and TV, plus they’re only 5 dollars a month!
I would also suggest checking out a great book called, “It Came From The Closet”, a collection of essays on horror movies from queer and trans writers.
Happy viewing!!! Genuinely hope you enjoy and can't wait to hear what you think!

thoughts on nimona movie
i feel like it was better than the comics in some ways and worse than others
i love the animation. the stylization is very cool, visually distinct, and dynamic in a way that felt different from the comics but also captured some of its utter fun (the dance party scene!). monster!nimona was more godzilla than dragon but SO fucking good to look at.
voice acting? so good. and it was fun to hear shadow weaver's voice for like 60 seconds jskdfjgh
goldenloin got such a glow up both in looks and in terms of personality omg. i love him. i did cock my head a little at him no longer having Grown Up In the Orphanage with ballister, but making ballister an outlier as a knight was pretty central to the movie in ways i ultimately think justify the change. more on that in a few bullet points.
meanwhile the character of todd felt wholly unnecessary.
most conflicted about changes to ballister. on the one hand he's so sensitively animated and voice acted, i love him as much as ever. on the other hand he doesn't really feel like THEE ballister blackheart until like the 45 minute mark, when he accepts nimona.
on the other hand i feel like this is just a mechanic of comics->film. he has a more dramatic and cinematic arc now, and it's an arc that rings true in a lot of ways as like. a queer person raised evangelical. lol.
on the other hand, in some ways, making the queer messaging more explicit now feels a little weird to me. in that ballister is literally a gay man, but he is figuratively queerphobic to nimona.
this stood out a lot less to me in the comics where both ballister's gayness and the queer messaging were more subtextual, and i understand why one would want it to be more explicit, and i also think that the fact of him learning and bonding with nimona is a function of him also being an outsider who has to unlearn his brainwashing, so it mostly works? i'm gonna watch the movie again and see what i think. maybe a few more times.
but my favorite thing is still the moments where ballister and nimona just kind of hang out and laugh together about stuff.
speaking of narrative changes! nimona's backstory! kind of love it?? more queer, more resistant to neat labeling, & it does a lot of things i like with shapeshifters; you know that post about the idea that there's no 'true form,' this one, it's that.
i wish nimona's hair had changed more but i suppose that would have been unnecessary work for the animators and less fitting for the shorter timeframe in the world of the movie
the other thing i feel weird about: not to be like, everything about shapeshifters should be more like wolfwalkers, but i was really hoping for an ending more like wolfwalkers where goldenloin and ballister would go over the wall, would leave with nimona. like. when ballister says "the institute is not the problem" i thought it was obvious we were supposed to think he was being hopelessly naive, and the narrative proves nimona right, but then at the end... it's unclear how much of the rebuilding of the city is tied to rebuilding the system of knighthood. which i suppose i prefer to ballister explicitly becoming a knight again, but all the same, if you're going to give us a less ambiguous ending re: nimona and ballister reuniting then they don't have to stay there!!
oh the music was fun
umm i kind of thought the voiceover about the kingdom sticking a sword in nimona's heart was overkill, we had all the information we needed visually to make that connection. but that's very nitpicky, it was otherwise a beautiful moment.

Most-Listened of December 2023
(via stats.fm/spotistats)
This was finals month, and a particularly rough set of finals, too. But I always tend to enjoy music as a whole more in December, as everyone takes time to appreciate their favorite songs of the year! So, though there weren't a whole lot of new releases, this was a great listening month for me, hence all the five-star songs :)
[last month]
1. The Very First Night -- Taylor Swift
This is an exuberantly painful song--just how happy Taylor Swift sounds, as she dreams of the impossible, breaks my heart and then brings me back for yet another listen.
2. Elevarte Caer -- Xoel López, Repion
This song is so powerful, hit after hit after hit of melody. The headbanging goes WILD whenever this one comes on.
3. Pierre -- Ryn Weaver
Soundtrack to my (requisite) finals breakdown, and WOW is it catchy. The bittersweet feeling chokes me up every single listen!
4. Closer -- The Chainsmokers, Halsey
Of all the songs Todd in the Shadows has featured on his yearly best lists, I don't know why THIS is the one that has made my own monthly list twice. But here we are!
5. Like I Can -- Sam Smith
Sam Smith angst is something special. I still like "Stay With Me" more, but "Like I Can" has the bite I needed this month.
6. Lean On -- Bely Basarte
I got really sick around Christmas, and Bely Basarte's soft covers of songs from my childhood helped comfort me through it :)
7. Numb Little Bug -- Em Beihold
Thanks @embroselu for the rec! When the instrumental go CRASH I go SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE (the texture is fantastic we love it)
8. Blame Brett -- The Beaches
This one is so much fun!! It brings pop euphoria to rock music just as excellently as my favorite Yena tracks!
9. Favorite Crime -- Olivia Rodrigo
Yeah, none of the GUTS ballads have managed to match this one, or "1 step forward, 3 steps back", for me.
10. Temporary Fix -- Dirty Blond
This is exactly what winter gloom feels like.
11. Una Sonrisa -- Repion
I've taken this on as sort of personal theme song, I love it so much!! AL FINAL, TE CANTARÉ, PARA SI SENTIRME BIEN <3 AL FINAL, TE CANTARÉ, PORQUE ME HACE BIEN A MIIIIIIIIIII PORQUE ME HACE BIEN A MIIIIIIIIIIIIIII <3
12. Royal -- IVE
This song is fine, I don't mind it! I left it on repeat while speedrunning a final essay, and apparently that was enough repeats to get it on this list--I don't think I've listened to it in any other context.
13. Heavy Lashes -- Ichiko Aoba
Accidentally clicked on this while looking for "Heavy" by Linkin Park & Kiiara--no regrets! It's mysterious but also tender, a ballad that's full of surprises. One listen, and I knew it was going to be on the five-star songs list.
14. Piklu's Vacation Dream -- Abeer Khandker
Every list needs a random meme song! Thanks to Pinely on YouTube for bringing this song into my world <3
15. All-American Bitch -- Olivia Rodrigo
Me when Olivia Rodrigo lyrics...
Five-Star Songs This Month:
BIBI Vengeance -- Bibi (i didn't realize how great this one is until it showed up on my spotify wrapped top 100 this year. bibi & the song work SO well together, it's captivating!! and there has to be something in that chorus, because its shock value still hasn't worn off)
Bruise -- Jo Yuri (this was overshadowed by the other songs on the album, but i fell hard for its delicate atmosphere this month. jo yuri's vocals on love all really are something else!!)
Call My Name -- Sunmi (yet another flawless sunmi bside. i really hope she releases another mini album--or an album, if we're lucky--soon!)
Elevarte Caer -- Xoel López, Repion
Heavy Lashes -- Ichiko Aoba
Peach Blossom -- Yuju, sokodomo (another song i underestimated earlier in the year. i'm so glad yuju's solo songs have been centering her vocals so heavily, moving away from gfriend's dramatic, showy instrumentals--she really can carry a song, and i'm so glad for the chance to appreciate her singing more!)

Some doodles because I feel like I haven't posted in a long time. And I want to.
Tumblr media
At first I was going to doodle only rainbow dash but I couldn't draw the same character in one whole page. So it became a multifandom thing.
Also I was looking for a clip of Soul Eater but I watched too much and now I think I'm into it again. And doodles Soul and Crona.
I also drew Tom and 2-D talking. Mostly because of a similar reason to Soul Eater. And Graystripe because I felt like drawing an animal.
I then drew scout next to RD just because.
The next row is basically my kin list. In an addition to Todd. Idk if I see Corona as a comfort character or I just kin them yet but so far I think it's both idk. Also Ezekiel is there. I'm having the same wonder for him too. And Todd now. Eh. (I mainly kin Waluigi and now Crocker for some reason).
Scootaloo because I drew RD and I kinda felt like drawing her too.
And Vicky.
Now let's never forget the best clown in the world, Popee.
Tumblr media
I got tired of drawing Popee so I kept drawing him so I could get even more tired of him. He's still my favorite from the show tho.
Random running gag from my multifandom story where Popee's tail is a chew toy for Dolly Dalmatian.
Also Dolly and Poof.
Wah.
Fone and Moomintroll (or just Moomin I forget which one everyone uses) talking. Fone won't shut up about Moby Dick. (Didn't draw the book tho dunno why).
Tim Weaver because he's the next Popee apparently.
Hammy & Burrito
And finally Jayfeather.
There you go. The reason I only posted two was because there are so many fandoms, I can't include everyone and everything.
Enjoy!
