Thinking about how Hunter was probably so touch starved he sought out any comforting touch he could get even if it was just manipulation (I’m in the trenches)

|All Roads AU|
Catra sees Adora every day but they still have countless photos of each other, capturing moments that remind them of how much they love each other.

Catra is Zuko without a Iroh
Thanks for the ask!
Honestly Catra is a combination of Zuko and Azula. She’s got Zuko’s temper/redemption and Azula’s smart/fear of abandonment. But I do have to agree with you. Catra kind of does what Zuko did in those three years.
During his three years at sea, Zuko kind of starts to get worse and worse and worse, battling both the realization that he’s never going home and all the anger he feels towards his family, but, through it all, Iroh is there.
Catra’s downward spiral is shown to the audience and she has no uncle Iroh counter part. I guess you could say it was Scorpia but I don’t know.

i scroll through the discourse tag a lot and find your blog so interesting. its a cartoon, no?
....I'm going to choose to take that as a compliment. First off, if you don't wanna see my posts, don't scroll through the discourse tags... second off, so what? Fiction affects reality, and romanticizing someone's relationship with their abuser *cough* Helluva Boss and Spop *cough* could affect someone's relationship with their abuser in a negative light, so yes I will complain about it even though it's a cartoon. If you don't like it, sorry I guess my blog just isn't for you.

Also the only thing I liked about catra was her design
Yeah, I like Catra's design as well. My favorite one has to be her s4 design, I kind of like the fact it calls back to Corrupted Catra in s3. Of course, I hate how sexualized s4 Catra is, but it was neat.
And I'll admit that Catra's "future" design (Adora projecting her future in s5, that is) was cool, too.

Entrapdak Positivity Month - Music
Mermista and Catra put them up to a karaoke duel and didn’t expect them to actually be good (or dance cheek to cheek 🙊)
They are singing along to the classic Escape from the City however my brain had Hot Fudge (warning for swearing) on loop when I was drawing this

How many times did you try flirting with Adora before she left the horde? Did she every realize you were flirting with her?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Catra and Adora would've had a much more narratively weighty storyline if the relationship explored the codependency and also the way that Catra is always compared to (and comes up short to) Adora by Shadow Weaver.
I mean, Catra already seems to oscillate wildly between desperately holding onto some imagined shreds of Adora and loathing her, it would be more interesting if that was actually explored and given weight by the story.
Anyways, maybe I like exploring toxic or codependent relationships through the lens of fiction. Maybe a bit.
exactly! this is what fans don't understand. they keep saying “of course catra is toxic, she grew up in a toxic environment” or “of course c//a is toxic, they never experienced real love”. yeah, that much is obvious. but the problem with spop is the framing.
spop and the fans act like catra's abuse is either justified, romantic or worst of all, sexy and desirable. young kids watch this show thinking that it's okay if someone treats you the way catra treats adora. they want a partner like catra. this is not the kind of message a children's show should be sending.
like you said, catra's and adora's relationship could have been an interesting exploration of an abusive and codependent relationship.
there have been ships/duos in animated media that have already done this - some examples being grace/simon (infinity train), zuko/azula (atla), lapis/jasper (steven universe), vi/jinx (arcane), etc.
these relationships were written and portrayed really well because they were never framed as healthy or desirable. these shows make it clear that these two people should not be together or in a relationship (depending on whether their dynamic is romantic or platonic), because it is harmful for both of them.
and that is what spop fails to do. they come close in s3 when adora finally stands up for herself and stops taking responsibility for catra's actions. but then that development is immediately pushed aside so that catra could be portrayed as a victim again and get her happily ever after with adora. it's a shame because if the writers didn't glorify and sexualize toxic relationships so much, they could have written an iconic toxic ship that is an eerily realistic portrayal of real life abusive relationships.

Can you draw Catra and Glimmer with She-Ra style forms? Like Catra is a giant cat warrior lady with claws and Glimmer is this all powerful goddess sorceress with a magical sword

I'm not sure but I THINK you wrote a post about how Catra didn't actually believe Prime is coming, right? Do you still have it somewhere? I couldn't find it
Are you thinking of this scrap?
To expand a bit on the thoughts there:
Tumblr media
The activation of the portal was, objectively, an utter trainwreck. No one - Rebellion or Horde - thinks it went to plan; instead, the portal reality was a giant, waving red flag that the forces trapping Etheria in Despondos are much, much stranger and more powerful than anyone expected.
Tumblr media
So when we start Season 4, Catra's focus isn't on the portal - she knows it failed catastrophically; she isn't expecting anything more to come out of it. Her focus is on taking advantage of the chaos the portal caused, not waiting for help from Big Brother.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(And she's dismissive when Hordak goes off on "Prime did hear me!"; "Great, so -". She does not care about Prime, except as a tool to jolly Hordak along.)
fwiw, I don't think Hordak fully believes Prime is coming here, either. Like. Okay. The thing about Hordak is that he is deeply irrational. He does not, and never did, have a coherent, attainable plan to return to Prime, because that's not a coherent, attainable goal. There never was a path back to grace for him; nothing he could ever do would make Prime un-discard him.
So his fixation here? His desire to believe that something came out of the portal, other than the destruction of his lab, and the loss of the best thing to ever happen to him Entrapta?
Tumblr media
That's the thing he's holding onto to keep from completely collapsing. If that signal hadn't gone through, if he hadn't had even that scrap to feed to his faith? He wouldn't be punishing Catra for her failure, or rebuilding his lab for another go. He wouldn't be doing anything, because he would be gone.
Tumblr media
But nothing he's doing says he really believes it; If he thought Prime was really coming, he wouldn't be sulking in his lab while his army idled.
His signal went through. He doesn't have to give up faith. And that's where his thoughts stopped. Hordak doesn't think Prime is coming next week, or next month, or in any kind of definable time-frame. In Hordak's mind, Prime isn't really coming for him because of the portal at all; he just thinks Prime is coming for him because Prime's been coming for him for the past 20 years.
Tumblr media
Catra uses Prime's arrival as a threat and a prod, not because she believes it; or because she thinks Hordak really believes it.
Tumblr media
She does it because she (correctly) thinks she can make him believe it. That Hordak needs her to make the promise real, to turn it from a vague faith into actionable certainty.
Tumblr media
That she can use that certainty to make him dance to her tune.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(and that she can shatter that certainty when it is no longer useful to her.)

i can't even barely call that redemption arc for catra. lilith sasha white blue and yellow diamond have some improvement but catra no
I havent watched Amphibia so I cant say my opinion on her redemption. White, Blue and Yellow, well, at least they have changed and trying to fix what they have done. And is not like Steven forgave them, he still has resentment towards them.
Lilith, I actually think that she was kind of the best, because she wasnt terrible, and makes sense. I do think that they forgave her a bit too fast. But appart from that, it wasnt terrible.
Catra? *scoffs* What redemption arc? She did ONE good thing, she victimized herself, had a haircut and thats it. She didnt actually changed. She didnt realize she did terrible things. Catra only saved Glimmer because she didnt have nothing else to lose. No, she did it cause the situation wasnt favoring her.
