Friday, December 13th F&B Junkyard Boogie is a slap-stick 2D side scroller beat-em-up. Play as Frank and his apprentice Beans in cleansing their home trash world of cleaning products and cleanly enemies. It's your job to keep this town as it was meant to be, dirty.

Introduction

Hello! My name is Carrigan Reilly, I currently attend CCAD as a Game Art & Design Major! I’m 18 and use He/Them pronouns! You took me to Eleven for the first time when I was a twenty-year-old sophomore at Ohio State. It had rained that night as we paraded High Street, so we were drenched, and it was well past closing time, but those weren’t things that bothered you. It took three hard knocks on the door and a fifty-dollar bill to get the pretty blonde bartender let us inside. My platinum blonde hair and spray tan were both ruined. The high-waisted shorts and crop top worked well at the prior college bar venue with the blaring football game, but not so much here. It was elegant, dimly lit, and looked more like an upscale speakeasy turned steakhouse than a bar that belonged in Columbus, Ohio. This wasn’t unusual, though. You showed up and found places with small fireplaces and boutique wines and martinis I couldn’t pronounce. You did it all the time.

And so I take him there, this new guy. He’s from Cleveland and Sicilian and I wonder if he is anything like you. Of course I ask him if his family is from Youngstown. Of course I whisper Cosa sai di Mano Nera? Italians don’t fuck around.

As we walk into Eleven, there is a private event taking place. We bulldoze into the event, as people like us often do. I am wearing the new Gianna Dress by Stella McCartney and he, D, is wearing is a Marley Sharp dress shirt by BOSS with tailored dress pants after just coming from a client meeting. D is a banker, which I find amusing in a place like Columbus. As always, I am wearing my Centuries Sandalwood Crème Body Lotion from Caswell-Massey, which masks the slight scent of Parliament cigarettes that we smoked in D’s Beamer on the way over to the Short North. Unexpectedly, we get kicked out after the first drink and decide to go to Grandview, one of my favorite pastimes after a failed night out in the city.

Grandview Café – a supposed neighborhood tavern that caters to Millennials who have an affinity for Blue Jacket hockey games and brunch. It’s around 9:30 p.m. when we arrive, and the place is dark, but the darkness can’t hide the dirty floor, cheap looking chandeliers, or metal designs that looked like a failed CCAD art student’s attempt to validate their life. Still, I enjoy it here.

As we arrive, a tanned waiter with curly hair brings us upstairs, away from the noise, to a private booth surrounded by antique books. I realize I recognize him from nearly a decade ago, and though we lock eyes, neither of us says a word. We promptly and unsurprisingly get a new waiter. I order a Gin & Tonic, of course, and D orders bourbon, which I find incredibly stereotypical for someone working in IB.

Being with D reminds me of being with one of my favorite college flings who went on to work for a private equity company in New York. He is toned and pale with a smile that takes up the majority of his face. He talks at the speed of light, bouncing around from subject to subject, but has enough empathy to watch my eyes for interest. For whatever reason, I am interested. He is handsome and obviously runs the show at work, but has a schoolboy charm that is simple and unassuming. Cleveland boy. As he continues to talk about earnings and makes a comedy out of the horrors of his job, our waiter brings us a complimentary bottle of champagne Brut wine. These things happen with some frequency to me in Columbus. I wonder if it’s because of the other waiter or because D’s firm gives capital to this restaurant or because we’re beautiful and self-important or something else.

With a couple glasses of Gin & Tonics and a couple glasses of the champagne, it’s no wonder I take D home with me. We continue to smoke Parliament cigarettes as we pull up to my home in Victorian Village. Inside, D goes straight to my bookcase and opens a couple of books: Principles by Ray Dalio, Investment Banking by Rosenbaum, and More Money than God by Mallaby. He laughs because they’re all highlighted and bookmarked. He lies down on my pink comforter and props his head with a fuzzy World Market pillow. I place myself next to him and rest my head on his shoulder.

 Then he kisses me.

Sugar is trying to get me to teach her daughter how to draw. 

The answer was ‘no.’ 

Then the answer was a very LONG ‘no.’ 

I was having a conversation with Coord about dog weddings because we’re doing flowers for a dog wedding. (That’s... a wedding where the bride and groom both have dogs and the dogs are in the wedding as ringbearers and other things... not a wedding between two dogs, which is what it should be.) 

Saccharon Interruptus. 

Sugar decides she wants to change the subject. “Hey Lee, I know this has nothing to do with anything, but you know my daughter is really into art stuff and I was wondering if you knew any classes that were like teaching art stuff.”

I have only lived in Ohio for about three years. “I’m not from here, I wouldn’t know much. You might try and see if CCAD does youth classes.”

“That’s a great idea, great idea. But I mean you... you could also do it. Like couldn’t you teach her how to draw good?”

“No.”

“I think she could really benefit from some hands-on learning.”

“I’m not comfortable with that. I’m not good with kids.”

“Well she’s not a kid. She’s 14.”

“Then that’s a double no.”

“She really reminds me of you.”

“Triple no.”

“She’s really into that anime stuff.” Of course she is. It is at this point she decides to show me what she means by ‘anime stuff’ like I can’t be caught nerding out about anime at any given time. She does this by showing me her kid’s facebook page- which is all screenshots from the Love Nikki dress-up game. Which is a game that I know because... I play it. “She’s into this kind of stuff.”

I gave her a list of comic artists that have instructional books. “But really the only way to get better at drawing is to draw.”

“Oh yeah yeah yeah... you know she really does remind me of you. She came out to me the other day and I was like I totally understand. Like I’ve been with girls before y’know and I guess I’ve dated but I don’t think that makes me gay but you know... I don’t know what that makes me or anything.”

“...quadruple no.”

Updates + Action Plan

ok y’all I’ve been lounging & recovering from moving + finals hell for like a week I think it’s about time I get shit rolling again. I’ve got a pretty extensive list of commissions to finish, along with blog updates & maintenance, but the first orders of business are showering so I don’t feel gross, and getting ahold of my mother so I can take her out for a late mother’s day dinner ( she doesn’t like to pick up the phone D: ) . Aside from that, I have some school related loose ends I want to make absolutely sure are tied up, since misinformation seems to be the name of the game, here at good ol’ CCAD, and between all that I’m fairly certain I won’t be doing a lot online today. The short version of my to-do list for the remainder of the week is as follows:

create a tagging system for that aesthetic blog where I just hoard shit

update @ofsubtlearts​ to the new bio layout I’ve been using for @tidehearted​ & update any missing info.

overhaul @technicallyaferret​ 100% complete with new bio & new headcanons- & possibly even a new FC, idk, I do like Dane but also there might be better options.

finish adding new muses to @tidehearted​

finish updating info/adding verses to existing muses on @tidehearted​

work on clearing out commission pileup ( not too hard- most of them are smol/simple things, with just 2 big pieces to work on, with very loose timelines )

This is one of those ‘go hard or go home’ weeks for me, and I’m going to be in ‘hardcore’ mode until my goals are achieved. That said, while I am around doing these things, I would be more than happy to do some plotting for my HP boys while I work on bringing them back. Once the above list is complete, I fully intend to give my HP multi the same overhaul treatment that Draco is getting, except y’know. Bigger because there’s around 13 muses on there- but that’s for the next go big or go home week.

I can’t get much more unpacking done pretty much until next weekend at best, so there is very little I can do around the house until then. I’m still running on my mobile hotspot ( which I’ve learned if I keep my phone on the windowsill it works fairly well- I just can’t take my phone ANYWHERE else or it takes ages to reconnect to service ), and we won’t be getting internet for 1-2 weeks, so here’s hoping I don’t go crazy from all the slowness and waiting.
