What are five of your favourite Grishaverse quotes? Send this ask to 5 of your favourite grishaverse blogs!
Thank you so much for sending this, and sorry it took me such a long time to get to it 😭
Choosing was super hard because there are so many insanely good quotes in the books and I love several of them for very different reasons, but I'll try and give it a go anyways. So: five of my favorite Six of Crows quotes (because I still haven't read the SaB trilogy), in no particular order:
Kaz and Inej, on getting back up after a fall:
Get it together, Brekker, he scolded himself harshly. It didn’t help. He was going to faint again, and this would all be over. Inej had once offered to teach him how to fall. “The trick is not getting knocked down,” he’d told her with a laugh. “No, Kaz,” she’d said, “the trick is in getting back up.” More Suli platitudes, but somehow even the memory of her voice helped. He was better than this. He had to be. Not just for Jordie, but for his crew. He’d brought these people here. He’d brought Inej here. It was his job to bring them out again. The trick is in getting back up. He kept her voice in his head, repeating those words, again and again, as he stripped off his boots, his clothes, and finally his gloves. -Ch. 22, Six of Crows
Matthias asking for mercy for monsters/the "we are all someone's monster" observation:
“Nina,” he said, hand still pressed over the smooth skin on his chest where a bullet wound should be. “Nina, please.” “You know they would not offer you mercy, Matthias.” “I know. I know. But let them live in shame instead.” She hesitated. “Nina, you taught me to be something better. They could be taught, too.” Nina shifted her gaze to his. Her eyes were ferocious, the deep green of forests; the pupils, dark wells. The air around her seemed to shimmer with power, as if she was alight with some secret flame. “They fear you as I once feared you,” he said. “As you once feared me. We are all someone’s monster, Nina.” -Ch. 41, Six of Crows
Wylan and Kaz's entire conversation about disability and vulnerability while cracking Van Eck's safe:
He thumbed quickly through the ledger and said, “When people see a cripple walking down the street, leaning on his cane, what do they feel?” Wylan looked away. People always did when Kaz talked about his limp, as if he didn’t know what he was or how the world saw him. “They feel pity. Now, what do they think when they see me coming?” Wylan’s mouth quirked up at the corner. “They think they’d better cross the street.” Kaz tossed the ledger back in the safe. “You’re not weak because you can’t read. You’re weak because you’re afraid of people seeing your weakness. You’re letting shame decide who you are. Help me with the painting.” They lifted the portrait back into place over the gaping hole in the safe. Martin Van Eck glared down at them. “Think on it, Wylan,” Kaz said as he straightened the frame. “It’s shame that lines my pockets, shame that keeps the Barrel teeming with fools ready to put on a mask just so they can have what they want with no one the wiser for it. We can endure all kinds of pain. It’s shame that eats men whole.” -Ch. 18, Crooked Kingdom
Inej vs. Dunyasha on the Church of Barter rooftop, refusing to be cowed on her own turf:
“The blood you spill is the blood of kings,” seethed Dunyasha. “You are not fit for such a gift.” Inej almost felt sorry for her. Dunyasha really believed she was the Lantsov heir, and maybe she was. But wasn’t that what every girl dreamed? That she’d wake and find herself a princess? Or blessed with magical powers and a grand destiny? Maybe there were people who lived those lives. Maybe this girl was one of them. But what about the rest of us? What about the nobodies and the nothings, the invisible girls? We learn to hold our heads as if we wear crowns. We learn to wring magic from the ordinary. That was how you survived when you weren’t chosen, when there was no royal blood in your veins. When the world owed you nothing, you demanded something of it anyway. Inej raised a brow and slowly wiped the blood of kings on her trousers. -Ch. 35, Crooked Kingdom
And Inej at the harbor...hopeful, in love, and ready to take on the world with her boy and her ship:
Had she really thought the world didn’t change? She was a fool. The world was made of miracles, unexpected earthquakes, storms that came from nowhere and might reshape a continent. The boy beside her. The future before her. Anything was possible. -Ch. 44, Crooked Kingdom

don't get me wrong i love gaslighting myself into thinking knowing that crooked kingdom is only 38 chapters long, but at the same time it makes me really sad because then there's no chapter 44.

does anyone have any jesper fahey fics where its not just the romanticised parts of adhd? Fics about RSD(rejections sensitivity dysphoria), sensory overload, feeling disconnected from the rest of the crows?
give me angst fics about Jesper being injured due to impulsive acting and having to explain his head to everyone in the crew who just dont understand because ADHD wasn’t coined then?
Adhd was known as a DISEASE around the time soc is said to be set, give me fics of self doubt of Jesper trying to ‘fix himself’ because he doesn’t feel good enough for the rest of the gang
give me a fic of nina, inej and wylan convincing him hes not useless, give me fics of Kaz not understanding but begrudgingly admitting he cares for Jesper as more than just his skills as a sharpshooter
give me hurt/comfort pls
give me more accurate adhd jesper :(

Sharing a new snippet from the Crows Witness Protection Program for Wayward Fathers, because I am only like, halfway through chapter writing but I loved writing this. Felt right.
The sense of creeping dread took over him almost immediately. He felt like prey, stalked through the shadowy alleys and damp cobbled streets. The decrepit gables of the abandoned warehouses felt like a canopy of dense, piney woods. And Wylan was just a tiny, twitchy, wide-eyed rabbit— or a shrew, even a mouse— hunted along the forest floor as he tried not to make a mad dash for home.
That would only draw more attention to him. Inej had told him once to walk, don’t run. But, unlike his spying friend, he didn’t have the luxury of being able to become nearly invisible, or to scale the tallest buildings in Ketterdam.
If I were like Inej, I could practically fly home.
She was like a bird, he supposed. Not a crow, though— not quite. That was Kaz, through and through. Or maybe she was more like a squirrel, with her effortless balance and her intelligent brown gaze.
More useful than a rabbit, who’s only gift is to run.
He missed her. It was a bit silly— he still didn’t know her too well— but he missed her through Jesper. Ever since she’d gone on her travels, he’d talked about her like he could make her materialise out of thin air.
With their wayward crow coming home to visit that very evening, Jes was excited enough for the both of them. He was even quicker with a grin than he was with a draw, and the bubbles of his energy almost made the nervous coil of Wylan unwind.
Almost.
Walking deeper into the Barrel came with more people. He thought that maybe he’d feel safety in numbers, be able to hide in plain sight, but it… It only felt like anyone could turn around and give chase. The back of his neck prickled like he was being watched. Wylan tightened his grip on the shoulder of his rucksack, but didn’t dare pause. He wouldn’t stop to look around.
Never give an assassin a sitting target, keep moving, Jes echoed in his head. Zig zag your steps enough, and no one but me would be able to get you.
He’d said it with a wink.
Wylan had rolled his eyes at the time, but now, as he wove his steps in and out from between passersby, it was almost as comforting as if he had his sharpshooter walking beside him.
But, not quite.
The sensation of eyes on his back didn’t fade even when he turned a corner. His legs twitched to make a break for it, his pulse thumping in his throat. Don’t run, rabbit.
If Jesper ever found out that he’d started calling himself rabbit— even in his own head— he’d never hear the end of it. But it kept his steps swerving from side to side, and his gait smooth. Slow. Maybe he was doing alright at this.
What animal is Jesper? He thought, distracting himself a little desperately. Jesper Fahey, with his twinkling eyes and sharp-boned face— he was fine. In the way handcrafted Ravkan jewellery was fine, or cutaway tailoring was fine. He was tricksy and clever. With his bright clothes and his brash optimism… he would stand out against lush green underbrush and shadowy tree trunks. Wylan ducked his nose into his scarf and took a steadying inhale of bergamot and velvetier. He’s dangerous enough that he doesn’t need to hide to be safe. He’s the type of creature you’d want at your side if you needed protection.
A fox, his lips twitched in a smile. When Jesper left the Slat that morning, Kaz had rolled his eyes at the brassy burnt orange of his sharpshooter’s suit.
Wylan thought he looked so handsome, with the collar turned up to brush along his cheekbone. His dark Zemeni skin seemed to glow next to the warm colour.
He’d stopped zigzagging. He’d stopped walking altogether.
Over the din of the Barrel gearing up for a long and busy night, Wylan almost didn’t hear the shot. But, Ghezen’s hand, he felt it.
Stupid little mouse.

Wylan: Why are you so mad?
Matthias: Kaz told me he apreciated me as part of this team
Wylan: That sounds...thats not all right? We are talking about Kaz
Matthias: He said "every group needs a pet" . The worst part is that i can never fight back, nothing gets under his skin...oh, i can even hear his demonic cane hitting the floor
Wylan: It's not you, i think he is actually outside
Kaz: Hi Wylan, hi other guy. I think i forgot my hat here
Wylan: I thought you were going out
Kaz: I am
Wylan: oh, alright
Kaz: What was that?
Wylan: What was what?
Kaz: You gave me the bitch check , you looked at my from head to toe and scrunched your nose. Now tell me, what is supposed to be wrong with my outfit?
Wylan: Nothing
Kaz: Your voice craked, you are lying
Wylan: Well, who cares what i think? Everyone has diferent taste, as long as you like it
Kaz: I mean yes , not like i care...but what don't you like about it? I spend the whole morning on this look
Wylan: For that?- i mean, good for you, Kaz. And the streets of Ketterdam have awful ligthing anyway , so no one would see it clearly. And keep the hat, it´s the lesser of two evils. Well, see you later (with another suit i hope)
"rushes out of the room"
Kaz: What was that? He said all that politely but-nah, who cares? Have you seen how HE dresses? He is probably just jealous "leaves the room"
Matthias: Aww, for a second i thought he
Kaz entering again and standing in front of a mirror: The colors are fine, the textures are fine, it looks expensive, it´s clean and all the buttons are on the right place, what was he talking about?-
Six hours later
Jesper: Are you still there?
Kaz having a breakdown in front of the mirror: Not like i care, i don't care, why would i care? caring is for little kids and i am not a little kid. I am just curious, it is illegal to be curious?-
Jesper: right...when you are done with that please help me with something. I need to know who sent Wylan a thousand of yellow roses with a little note that says "thank you"

from Of Bronze and Blaze, ch 6:
“I know you can look after yourself, Wylan,” he said. “I get the feeling you've been looking after yourself for a long time. But that doesn’t mean—”
Laughing voices, speaking Fjerdan, echoed through the hall.
At once, both of them froze.
Jesper looked left to right, and then pulled Wylan into a nearby alcove, which would in no way prevent them from being spotted. There was nothing for it—the voices were too close, and the nearest doorway too far.
Wylan, white as a sheet, clutched at the front of Jesper’s shirt, eyes wide as he peered in the direction of the incoming merry-makers.
“We need a distraction,” said Jesper. “Or… a reason for being out here by ourselves. We don’t want them getting a good look at our faces—”
The fear in Wylan’s eyes solidified into realization.
“Jesper,” he said. “Kiss me.”
“Right now?”
“Jesper Fahey!” Wylan said, more urgently. “Yes, right now!”
Understanding came, just as the first polished boots and powdered wigs came round the corner.
“Oh, hell yeah,” said Jesper, and pulled Wylan to him.
Of Bronze and Blaze is a Wesper-centric reimagining of Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, through the lens of the Shadow and Bones TV canon. You can read it from the beginning on ao3 here! 😊

@lingeringscars asked:   21.  EMPLOY :  for one muse to be hired as the other’s bodyguard, tutor, assistant, etc. / spencer & wylan
‘     don’t touch that!      ’      wylan had no idea why kaz had employed someone to help him in the workshop   [   and he knows better than to question kaz’s decision...    that doesn’t stop him from trying,   but he often gets stuck in the loop of kaz’s witty remarks and thinly - veiled threats,   and he was such a good liar that wylan could never piece out what was actually true   ]     ---     this felt almost like an insult,  however.    he knew that he was capable when it came to explosives:   in fact,  wylan had enough of an ego to say that he was one of the damn best.   so why would he need an assistant?   did kaz want him to work faster?    he tries not to concern himself with what brekker thinks of him,    but the bastard of the barrel had an aura about him.    perhaps it was less about devotion and more about fear   [   maybe he’s being cruel because he’s upset:    he dislikes that about himself   ].     ‘     please don’t touch that.   it’s fermenting.   what is your    ---   specialty?   what are you really good at?   i should be able to find something for you to do.      ’

Burn and light by Spikey44
Ch. 4 May I present this… murderous thug!?
Summary:
Kaz Brekker is the Sun Summoner. He is not a saint. He is a Crow and he is not alone. Ravka has been warned. In this calamity of bossing the Fold, extorting Ravkan royalty and angering the governments of every known nation in the world you will find the following: Darklings getting shot! Jesper Fahey's school of Durast sharpshooting! (unrelated) Certain Second Army Generals desperately wishing for nice, innocent teenage girls to gaslight. Instead dealing with corrupt teenage boys who want their money. Now! Ravka's first plaid kefta (absolutely Jesper's fault) Kaz Brekker's school of resource management (yes, the First Army do need bulletproof keftas!) Regicide (Hello Genya! Inej approves!) Sankta Inej, the Holy Wraith! Wylan the first Otkazak'sya Fabrikator in history! Genuine Sun Saint canes available for the low, low price of... Everyone, everywhere wanting Kaz dead. And all at once! Revolution. Multiple. Large and Small. Jan Van Eck. Yes, really. Potentially one unlucky Druskelle having a very strange time in the name of love.
should totally go read it then come back to read the post vv
I liked the fourth chapter so much I decided to draw it- SEVEN hours later this is my product, it’s not done but for the sake of my sanity I’m saying it is

The rest (most) of the chapter under the cut~~

Doing a Six of Crows reread and there are already quite a few subtle references to the fact that Wylan can't read:
In ch 9 Kaz asks Wylan if he's ever snooped around Van Eck's office and read his documents. Wylan gives the most emphatic no, that they all believe him.
In ch 15 Kaz asks Wylan why he hasn't labeled his diagram of the ice court. Wylan says he doesn't know Fjerdan, so Matthias should do it.
In ch 17 Inej tells Jesper that Van Eck writes letters to Wylan every week, but Wylan doesn't even open them.
Also those letters just show how much more of a shitty father van Eck is: if you're reading this, then you know how much I wish to have you home...
He knows Wylan can't read, so he actually doesn't wish for him to come back. If I could hate him more I would.

Fanon vs Canon characters
(Contains spoilers, duh)
Percy Jackson:
fanon Percy: OH this is a pen guys!!! Lolz wtf am I doing again? 🤪Annabeth who? The love of my life is blue food. Omg I like, don't even know where my head is unless my smart gf points it out to me. 😅Haha
canon Percy: is actually smart, though self-deprecating and funny. Is immensely loyal & protective but has the presence of mind to quickly think his way out of a problem. Even Annabeth admits he is pretty intelligent; she simply likes to tease him like he's an idiot.(which he clearly isn't)
Wylan Van Eck:
fanon Wylan: Omg Jesper *blush* *stutters* 🥺*blushes again* oh gosh Kaz, nooo ahhhh I'm just a baby OR Yo get out of the way bitch, this is Kaz Brekker 2.0 & I'm gonna push you into the canal. 😠
canon Wylan: is very smart but insecure. Yet stands up for himself and his friends. Quite kind & modest yet develops confidence along the way. Super smart; His father is a dumb asshole for not recognizing the genius in him. Definitely a badass survivor but dosen't let his shitty circumstances knock the goodness out of him.
Nikolai Lantsov:
fanon Nikolai: Haha I'm so funny & handsome lolz 😝😏 lemme flirt *wink* ah darling I'm just here for the laughs. #partyanimal Narcissus 2.0
canon Nikolai: Funny, smart, charming & brave. Disguises his dangerously smart mind, fears & insecurities behind a well-constructed mask of easy-going charm & wit. Is also deeply patriotic & optimistic despite battling demons from all sides. Is a king through & through, even without a crown.
Jesper Fahey:
fanon Jesper: Shoot! *finger guns* *wink*😜😘 ohhhh Milo *ignores Wylan* my dearest, love of my life, aww. I'm not throwing out the goat. 🐐Haha I'm the dumb comic relief. I'm just here to be loud & funny & annoy Kaz hehe.*twirls guns*
canon Jesper: Friendly, brave, talented but also impulsive & reckless with gambling addiction. Suffers trauma, identity crisis & masks it with humor. Lowkey protective of his friends & hates to disappoint his loved ones. Likes to live in the moment. Looking for purpose in life.
Alina Starkov:
fanon Alina: ugh, so dumb, & whiny all the time. I have no personality guyzzz, besides going back & forth between Mal & Darkling. Meh, there's nothing else.
canon Alina: Snarky, sassy, insecure, also very brave & patriotic, bit of a hero complex, carries the burden of the Chosen One even though she dosen't want to solely to save her country. Is deeply in love with her best friend & is scared of losing him. Very powerful but dosen't let the greed for it overcome her & refuses to let go of her humane & compassionate side. Can be quite funny when she wants to.
Nico di Angelo:
fanon Nico: McDonald's for life. *angst* *gay* *angst* *angst* wow I'm depressed. Casually jokes of death all the time or just yells & swears.
canon Nico: Moody, depressed, used to a joyful kid but scarred by death of his sister. Also kinda angsty & powerful. Eventually overcomes his fears & learns to move on. Comes out as gay & learns to accept his identity, falls in love. Is also brave & loyal. Has a hidden soft side only a few know about. Is the Ghost King; radiates deadly authority. Speaks in a low & quite voice but still carries his point across.
Matthias Helvar:
fanon Matthias: I'm just a boring straight guy who's also misogynistic & homophobic.(insert Ch 40 joke) *Karen 2.0*  *dumb af* Being an uptight edgy prude is the only highlight of my personality. (Insert Ch 40 joke) *rolls eyes* *simps* (yet another stupid Ch 40 joke, now laugh guys, so funny haha)
canon Matthias: Big grump with a kind heart. A tragedy in childhood made him get recruited by a hateful cult. Unlearnt the bigotry & left said cult even at the cost of being branded as a traitor by his beloved country, appears cold at first but is extremely loving & tender, hella brave & wants to do the right thing. Told a misogynistic line just once then revised his opinion & started respecting the warrior sides of Nina & Inej. The only one in the group who cared for a pregnant lady. Stoic & strong, patriotic & heroic soldier, faithful & religious, believes his country can do better. Loves Nina whole-heartedly, notices Jesper & Wylan falling in love & never harbors homophobic feelings against them.

Six of Crows Reread - Ch. 17
Chapter 17: Jesper
_
“Jesper prowled the deck, climbed the rigging, tried to get the crew to play cards with him, cleaned his guns. He missed land and good food and better lager. He missed the city. If he’d wanted wide open spaces and silence, he would have stayed on the frontier and become the farmer his father had hoped for. There was little to do on the ship but study the layout of the Ice Court, listen to Matthias grumbling, and annoy Wylan, who could always be found labouring over his attempts to reconstruct the possible mechanisms of the ringwall gates.
Kaz had been impressed with the sketches.
“You think like a lockpick,” he’d told Wylan.”
For Kaz to hand out compliments like that (even as strange as his compliments are) Wylan must really be remarkable. Of course, Wylan doesn’t take his compliment as a compliment (because it is no compliment to be considered to have a criminal mind, but...)
“And you don’t belong here, either.”
“I beg your pardon, merchling?”
“We don’t need a sharpshooter for Kaz’s plan, so what’s your job – other than stalking around making everyone antsy?”
He shrugged. “Kaz trusts me.”
Wylan snorted and picked up his pen. “Sure about that?”
I like it that even though Wylan is usually more quiet and peaceful than Jesper, especially when it comes to externalizing his thoughts, he’s also not over standing up for himself and putting people “in his place” so to speak. Jesper, up until this point, has being annoying Wylan so much, that it’s nice to see the roles reversed a little bit here.
“Every crew member called greetings and well wishes, and Jesper could sense Inej perking up with every cheer of “The Wraith returns!” Even Matthias gave her an awkward bow and said, “I understand you’re the reason we made it out of the harbour alive.”
“I suspect there were a lot of reasons,” said Inej.
“I’m a reason,” Jesper offered helpfully.
Yeah, well, Jesper was also the reason they were ambushed in the first place, but anyway...That’ll come to light later on.
“When they reached the foredeck, Inej leaned on the railing and looked out at the horizon. “Did he come to see me at all?”
Jesper knew she meant Kaz. “Every day.”
Inej turned her dark eyes on him, then shook her head. “You can’t read people, and you can’t bluff.”
Jesper sighed. He hated disappointing anyone. “No,” he admitted.”
This is so Anthony/Kate coded! Like she basically asks the same thing at the end of episode 2.08 of Bridgerton, when she asks if Anthony’s been there to see her and they answer no and she looks so dissapointed, but it ended up being that he didn’t see her because he couldn’t bear the thought of her not waking up and that was basically Kaz’s thought process in this same scene. If they end up including this part in the future SoC spinoff, I wonder if anyone will make a gifset paralleling these two scenes.
“I don’t think he did. Van Eck writes to Wylan every week, and Wylan doesn’t even open the letters.”
“What do they say?”
Inej leaned back carefully on the railing. “You’re assuming I read them.”
“You didn’t?”
“Of course I did.” Then she frowned, remembering. “They just said the same thing again and again: If you’re reading this, then you know how much I wish to have you home. Or I pray that you read these words and think of all you’ve left behind. ”
I remember reading this part for the first time and thinking how decent Van Eck seemed to be when it came to his son, given that he was writing him letters that Wylan simply refused to read. However, reading it again, knowing why Van Eck was doing it just seems like a slap in the face. “If you’re reading this, then you know how much I wish to have you home” But since he’s not reading it because he can’t read, he’s basically saying that he doesn’t wish to have him home and reinforces how much of a douchebag he is.
“So what are we doing here?”
Jesper turned back to the sea, feeling his cheeks heat. “Hoping for honey, I guess. And praying not to get stung.”
Inej bumped her shoulder against his. “Then at least we’re both the same kind of stupid.”
I love these little moments when they both bond on how they wished Kaz could show a little bit more appreciation for them, but doesn’t.
Next up, we see how Kaz was been faring with Inej being up and about and refusing to approach him (and vice versa).

“Wylan summoned every bit of bravado he’d learned from Nina, the will he’d learned from Matthias, the focus he’d studied in Kaz, the courage he’d learned from Inej, and the wild, reckless hope he’d learned from Jesper, the belief that no matter the odds, they would win. ‘I won’t talk,’ he said.”
