the thing about taking advice from anyone on tiktok or instagram including catholic and christian type influencers, parenting advice, relationship advice, etc, or internalizing any stories of horrible relationships and betrayal people tell on those platforms, or reading about all the ways interpersonal relationships can end horribly and be cycled through extremely quickly on those platforms is that you are necessarily then consuming the thoughts and experiences of someone who is willing to put their face and name on a public social media platform to talk at you. and like 1% of those people have a good reason for doing so and the other 99% are completely unhinged. so everything you’re consuming has first gone through the filter of "is this person weird and insane enough to make Instagram reels of themselves crying?" and if the answer is yes maybe their advice doesn’t apply to your life because you’re a normal person who would not do that.

#i don’t know if this makes sense but it’s something i was thinking about today #not that i really live my life according to Instagram reel advice but as a human being when i see something stated as fact i naturally seek #out the parts of it I believe or compare it to my current worldview #and when that person seems to have a lot of “clout” for discussing spiritual things….idk sometimes I’m like wait is this true? should i #believe this? and other times I’m like well is this a real pattern of behavior that can be observed in many people from different walks of #life including my own? this thing that all men do or all women do or the way all couples will eventually behave #this makes it sound like i am constantly on social media consuming hours of content which im really not #I’ll be on a train and scroll a little bit and something gets stuck in my craw #but with me I’m always like am i rationalizing this away because i don’t want it to resonate? #and I think in the case of anything on social media the answer can almost always be no #because im like wait. why would i take advice from someone who has a public Instagram account #im not saying a stopped clock isn’t right twice a day but really how much of my perspective and life experiences can they share in #when we have this totally totally mismatched worldview #(i mean this also applies to basically anyone offering any type of life advice who isn’t catholic about that) #(but when they are Catholics doing this that gives me slightly more pause for obvious reasons I’m like we are on the same team though?) #(and we are but only kind of and i do not have to listen to you because being an Instagram influencer is still cringe in 99% of cases.)

Screaming crying scratching at the walls of my enclosure because it’s now somehow necessary to not just use social media but excel at it to even be considered for any of my dreams jobs??!?! shoutout to the one discourse blog who followed me, presumably unfollowed, refollowed weeks or possibly months later (i didn’t keep track of course, i just remembered having seen them in my notifications long before this and when they refollowed they messaged me and it showed me they’d followed me a few hours before i saw the message), and messaged me to ask me what “cisphobic” means in my bio, then when i refused to explain myself because i’m not obligated to and i was tired at the time, said they “couldn’t” follow me because they weren’t sure if it was Okay for me (a trans person) to be “cisphobic” and how serious i was about that, and i just had to be like “…okay??” because how do i even respond to that. naturally, they were a minor with the most incomprehensible DNI i’ve ever seen besides on, like, conservative people’s blogs. extremely bizarre experience for me though.

Asexual and aromantic are not “spicy straight trying to be special LGBT”.

This argument, much like “you’re not really bi/pan if you are with someone of the opposite gender”, asks for visibly performative queerness then ignores the inherent queerness in these experiences.

If being straight is being allosexual, heterosexual, heteroromantic, alloromantic, and cisgender, all at once, then a person only needs to not be one of these to call themselves queer if they want to.

This always ruffles feathers, but..cishet isn’t the inherent opposite of queer.

Allosexual — not ace or under its umbrella

Alloromantic — not aro or under its umbrella

cisgender — aligning with your gender assigned/designated at birth

Heterosexual— sexual attraction to the opposite gender

Heteroromantic — romantic attraction to the opposite gender

If all aces and aros were cishet, which we’re not but just for the sake of this example, how would this detract from the queerness inherent in asexuality and aromanticism? Each are complex spectrums of a fundamentally different experience than the world teaches us we should have.

Aces, aros, and bi/pan people in “straight passing” relationships are often lumped into cishet as a way of delineating “not queer”, regardless of other factors. But this dismisses queerness and asks for specific, unnamed perimeters to be met for it to be recognized.

When presented with ways that experiencing little to no sexual attraction, or little to no romantic attraction, are in fact in opposition with the expectation for everyone to have both (allonormativity and amatanormativity or amanormativity respectively), people don’t accept it. Or rather, they don’t accept it as a thing on its own. Sometimes this means getting treated as if you’re just trying to be edgy, as if proclaiming you’re part of a marginalized group gives social media clout or something. Other times it’s just not treated as enough on its own by other queer people.

This happens in ace and aro spaces too. Cishet is used often as shorthand for “not queer”, directly pushing away aspecs who may be cishet and also ace and/or aro. It doesn’t seem intentionally exclusionary, but unintended exclusion is still exclusion.

This reflects, also, the expectation of performative queerness that is thrown at bi and pan persons both in and out of queer spaces. There are also many aces and aros who are bi and pan, and who may or may not be cisgender.

The reality however is there is no way to “perform” queerness that is satisfactory to all who demand it. The result this odd sort of existence where when one appears queer “enough”, that is used as weaponry against them, but when it isn’t, it’s used to exclude queer people from queerness.

And the real kicker is asexual and aromantic are enough. Bi/pan folks are still their orientation regardless of what their relationship looks like. Gender is it’s own thing, separate from the others, but related because this all ends up being a pile of queer identity spaghetti.

Regardless of how queer a person appears to you, or if you understand their individual experience… Ace is enough. Aro is enough.

The demand for performative queerness is used to try to defend from harm, but it ends up attacking anyone not visibly queer enough to the beholder.

We need to be more explicitly inclusive — especially in our own spaces, but also outside of them when talking about how queerness operates. If someone else’s queerness makes your idea of queerness more complicated, that’s not a bad thing. Learn from that, and let them be.

If you see someone is ace or aro and then see they’re more like you than you thought they could be, or that they don’t engage with it how you expected, that’s not a reason to be exclusionary. It’s a reason to try to expand what you include in your idea of queer.

Once, you needed someone to include you to feel comfortable in your queerness.

Set your ego aside and extend a hand to those you don’t quite understand. Be inclusive. Especially if someone’s relationship to their queerness challenges what you thought was possible.

Tumblr has discovered The Sandman...

Tumblr has discovered Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman.   Here are some of the examples of proof of that discovery.  The good and the not-so-good.

1.   The Corinthian (A nightmare entity) has been referred to as a “Blorbo.”  Based on my understanding of the meaning of the word I am pretty certain The Corinthian probably should not be your Blorbo.  But then again you might be into that sort of thing.  I’ve seen some strange things in the Horror movie slasher fandoms.  Just know that if he was real it would probably not be safe to think of him as your Blorbo.

2.  The Corinthian has been called Cori and Cory respectively.   And so it begins...

3.  Morpheus has been referred to as a poor little “Meow Meow” and not while in his cat form.  And yes, I know he fits the criteria for the term.  It’s just this was the first time I’ve seen him called it without it being literally related to his cat form.   You have truly made it in the world of Tumblr when they start calling your character a Blorbo or Poor LIttle Meow Meow.  Whatever happened to Woobie?   I would think Morpheus would fit under “Woobie.”   

4.   I have seen Tom Sturridge (Morpheus’s Netflix actor) referred to as a DILF.  (Dad I’d like to ...have fun with).   As the term is usually reserved for older men, and I, myself, am forty, and Tom Sturridge is a few years younger than I am, this term usage came as a surprise to me. It turns out some fans are using the term quite literally as Tom Sturridge literally is a father.  I was used to the term being used specifically in regard to age.

5. Morpheus has been compared to a Disney Princess.

6.   A scene from the source material has been taken out of context to make the character look more like an asshole than he actually is even though there are plenty of real asshole moments as the character is on a long redemption arc.

The scene in question is when Matthew the Raven says “Penny for your thoughts.” And Morpheus responds with “You have no pennies, Matthew.”  Later Morpheus offers Matthew a literal penny in exchange for him voicing his thoughts.  Morpheus being too literal is what is happening here. Context matters.

7.  There are people trying to bluff having read The Sandman without having actually read The Sandman to try to gain clout in the fandom.   It’s okay to have not read it yet, guys. It’s a great read. There’s nothing to be ashamed of.  Go have fun.  I promise it’s not as difficult as some people make it out to be.

Someone genuinely tried to argue with me that the “White haired version of Morpheus” was not created by Neil Gaiman and was created long after he was done writing The Sandman.  If you have read The Sandman you would understand how wrong this is. 

Don’t try to bluff having read The Sandman if you have not.  We can tell.  We can always tell.  

8.  There are gatekeepers trying to intimidate new readers into thinking there’s nothing whimsical in The Sandman and that it’s “So deep” and “you won’t get it the first time you read it.  You have to read it a few times to understand it.”

Yes, there is darkness in The Sandman. It’s part dark fantasy / part Gothic Horror with moments of gore but there are light things too.   Don’t discourage new readers.   I promise the story isn’t as hard to get into as some people make it out to be. I know terms like “Classic” can make some people chafe.  Just give it a try.  If you don’t like the first issue, try the second. If you don’t like the second, keep going until at least issue four.  If you still don’t like it after issue 4, it’s okay to stop.  No one will judge you.  If you don’t like comic books, try the audio drama, it’s divided into chapters like a novel.  Each issue being a chapter.   If you don’t like it after chapter four, that’s okay.  You’ll know if you like it or not by then. 

9.  There is already fan art of Tom Sturridge as Morpheus in funny / ridiculous scenarios.  No picture is given here as I did not get permission from the artists to share them yet.

10. There are already people complaining about the casting without having watched the show yet. One faction claiming the casting is “too woke” while another faction seemed concerned that it’s not inclusive enough even though Desire is nonbinary and pansexual, Death is a black woman, Rose and Unity are black women, Ruthven Sykes is a black man, Lucienne is a black woman who wears spectacles, Lucifer (who has no set gender or even sexual reproductive organs) is being played by a woman, Alexander Burgess is gay, The Corinthian is gay, Johanna Constantine is bisexual, Cain and Abel are South Asian...      

There even seem to be politically charged rants complaining because the English language show, with an English cast, written by an English writer, has a lead actor with an English accent...

So what do I have to say about Tumblr discovering The Sandman? 

Well..

This is my humble take…

Joe Alwyn was Taylor’s best boyfriend. She knows this and her fans know this. But he demands actual work and accountability. Taylor is a white rich conservative girl first and foremost. And she’s very narcissist. Joe is the first boyfriend of hers to put actually limits on how her public personal affects him and their relationship. And she liked dating him at first because he was private and reserved and she was desperately trying to scape the industry and she found the most non-industry British man ever. She liked that security and knowing he didn’t attract that much attention. Then, she slowly gained her reputation back on track and realized that she could finally go back to being the person that plays for the media again. And yes, maybe her relationship with Joe was slowly fading — it happens a lot. But she clearly says in her lyrics that wanting to be shown off in public is one of the reasons too. Because she likes that every relationship she’s in gets consumed by her fans and the media.

And Joe Alwyn required her to go and do some work on herself! He comes from a very activist family. He was the one that made her be more open about social activism. It was because of him that she tried to do the bare minimum like encouraging during elections, have more racially diverse people on her music videos and tours, and do a very cringey job at supporting lgbt rights. But it was at least something…

Isn’t funny that the moment they broke up she went back to being very problematic? The climate terrorist that she’s been for the pass year and then wanting to sue people for spreading her private flights information (knowing this is public information). Then dating that racist man that mocked woman of color and admitted to watch what he did, being quiet about the war that’s going on, and the lame and immature issue she created over some of Olivia Rodrigo’s songs (a literal new artist and teenager at the time) to the point she cut total ties with her and her next man being a very typical conservative macho man that seems to love the attention just like her. She’s back at being who she’s always been…

oh you absolutely have said it all. this is extremely well said and on point.

i find it so odd that most swifties can't pinpoint that the real issue between joe and taylor was taylor once again giving into the industry and being a rich white capitalist which is something joe is not and does not want to be, and most likely caused the demise of their relationship. taylor herself has said this in her songs (like the lyrics in peace, as you said). so yeah, maybe she wanted marriage but joe probably wasn't comfortable marrying someone who had completely different morals than him which is his right. let's be real here.

and oh the relationship between her and travis probably set her "redemption arc" far back than ever. she really was finally speaking up on so many matters and now she's dating a problematic trump supporter, giving into the media frenzy with the NFL, and has done no activism despite having the biggest platform. i think what sucked the most was her being times person of the year and using it to talk about travis and how she wasted 6 years of her life being private. so disappointing. and the cherry on top are some of the lyrics from ttpd (ex. 1830s racism lyric) like WHAT?

another thing swifties misinterpret is that no one would've known joe if it wasn't for taylor and that he's living off of his songwriting credits from folklore/evermore. joe who is notoriously low-key and has stated he just wants to be seen as human never used taylor for clout and has avoided saying her name in interviews, even after the break-up. not because he didn't love her, but because he did not want to feed into the media frenzy. and if all eyes are on him, he's using it to make a statement about palestine which is amazing. sure, you may not have known joe alwyn if it wasn't for taylor but he never used taylor's fame to make him more famous. and might i argue, it was taylor who despite releasing positive songs about him sometimes didn't defend him (like in the folklore sessions where jack antonoff was obviously being rude to him? or how she told her fans not to go after john mayor releasing speak now tv but didn't say anything for joe when her fans have been harassing him like crazy?)

on the other hand, we have travis kelce who has most definitely brought her up in every capacity like on his brothers podcast and let's be real, most of the swifties didn't know who travis was (i didn't!) unless they were football fans. we saw proof of that when NFL sales and viewership was significantly higher. so yes, travis is using her name for clout and feeding into the media frenzy. and then you have swifties saying he loves her and supports which yes, can be true, but you cannot deny that taylor and travis' relationship fed the media, fed the NFL, and diverted attention from more important issues like gaza. and while taylor and travis had their eyes on them, they didn't use it to do any good.

so yes, you are right. joe was taylor's best boyfriend.

List of balance issues in Tri-color Battles

there were so many facets to this being unbalanced i had to make a list.

the clout distribution in the tricolor battles is extremely unbalanced:

winning offense: 6000 (+2500 for each ultra signal gotten, +300 per attempt)

losing offense: 5000 (+2500 for each ultra signal gotten, +300 per attempt)

defense: 3000 + turf + synergy

if even just one of the offensive teams win, the other one also technically wins as well but to a slightly lesser extent (they still get all that clout!). they are still on the winning screen. you can’t fit all 4 players from the defending team onto the screen in addition to the 2 players on the first place offensive team. it’s made to be 4 total players on the screen. one of the offensive teams can come in last in terms of ink turfed, but if the other offensive team comes in first, they automatically get second place. meanwhile, the defending team either gets first place (very hard) or completely loses. no second place, even if they technically turfed more area than last place. it’s all or nothing.

the two offensive teams can choose whether or not to play tricolor battles. the defending team has no choice and the tricolor matches appear at random in the open splatfest battles.

less chance of x10, x100, and x333 battles appearing in the 4v4 open splatfest battles for the defending team due to being in rotation with tricolor battles. since the offensive teams aren’t forced to do tricolor they have better chances of running into the multiplication battles and getting all that clout, which ultimately contributes to winning the splatfest.

ultra signal respawns IMMEDIATELY after it is successfully defended. no cooldown.

the two attacking teams have a bunch of extra turf to ink around the spawn that is largely inaccessible to other teams. the defending team has very little spawn area to cover for a “baseline”/“backup” level of inkage, so the center area can be inked entirely over from both sides.

at least for sturgeon shipyard, there were multiple points of entry for the attacking teams to get into the defending team’s turf but very little routes for the defending team to get into the attacking team’s turf.

the attacking teams only have one real objective: get the most turf inked. getting the ultra signal helps with that and gives them clout, but it’s ultimately to secure more ink. they will *still* get more baseline clout than the defending team even if they don’t bother getting the ultra signal. the defending team has two objectives that cannot happen at the same time: inking the most turf AND ferociously guarding the ultra signal.

you can argue that you can split the defending team into 2 players watching the ultra signal and 2 players inking turf, but it’s not uncommon in splatoon for two players to be splatted at a time, ESPECIALLY when 4 others players are headed for the center. also reefslider exists and can, has, and will splat the defending team in the tiny little center. if those two players holding the center are splatted, which will inevitably happen, it all falls apart and the match is essentially over.

as the defending team, you cannot match with randos and expect to win tricolor battles. you need to bring your A-game every single time and be highly coordinated. even a lot of teams of four who were in calls coordinating were losing.

even experienced rank X players on team scissors were getting bodied, so it’s not a skill issue.

as it turns out, mixing turf war and ranked mode isn’t really a good idea.

from a commenter on reddit: “the ultra signal sprinklers could not be turned off once activated, and the ultra signal could be launched way too easily. one reef slider wipes out the defenders, and the ultra signal is captured before you have even respawned. then the sprinkler activates, and you can maybe, just barely, keep up with its ink output if you have a roller... until you run out of ink, and then have to retreat and do it all over again... i worked with another roller, and we were barely able to hold a portion of one side just against the sprinkler.”

this is minor but while the rock and paper got shiver and frye talking to them during battle, scissors got nothing. just silence.

this is a rundown of why team scissors were getting bombed. also i’m just outlining these issues in one place to compare to if anything changes in the future which it hopefully will.

having 4 players isn’t the advantage it sounds like on paper because you have to split the work of defending the ultra signal and getting the most turf, and those two players holding the signal are inevitably going to be splatted by the 4 offensive players because… it’s splatoon and that happens especially when players are concentrated in one tiny area. therefore, people will say “okay, then have 3 players defending the signal and 1 turfing” but realize that 1 player alone can’t handle defending from both sides of the map at once.

i know tricolor battles are meant to put the winning team at a disadvantage but this is frankly overkill imo. team scissors at halftime was only winning by 1% (if that) so it didn’t really feel like it was even necessary because all the teams were roughly tied. all it did was drag a roughly tied team down into the grave.

i know some individuals may have had fun, but the consensus is that team scissors players did not have fun in the tricolor battles, and there’s a good reason why. what makes something addicting and rewarding is having a chance. that’s why people gamble. i can’t remember the name for it, but in psychology there is a term for the sweet spot where the chance ratio of something happening are super rewarding to the brain. there was no “we may win this time!” to keep me going on team scissors. it just felt like “we’re gonna lose again what’s even the point”, which isn’t conducive to a happy playerbase nor addicting you to splatfests. and certainly not for 6 hours on one of the worst stages for a tricolor battle.

keep in mind wrote this as a blurred general picture, not for the individual rare instances of the defending team pulling through because those are outliers tbh. the overwhelming majority of them are losses, and that’s honestly not fair since it doesn’t feel like your team can be redeemed if you’re in first place at halftime. like you just know your team already lost because of how advantaged the offensive teams are in tricolor battles and that defeats the fun. hence, why people are calling them unbalanced.

this honestly feels some squid game level shit…no pun intended. like that game where the people chose a number and those who chose numbers closer to 1 were the first to try a game in which they will die without other people paving the way first; they are the sacrifices paving the way. this has that same kind of cruelty to it. “oh you’re happy you’re doing good? you like being in first? die”

holy fuck bogleech why is everyone on twitter so big mad at you for saying that the new pokemon art is bad. they are lining up to utterly beclown themselves but they seem to believe you are the clown instead. what is even going on

It's almost entirely JUST twitter and on twitter it’s almost entirely people who hang on every word of the serebii guy, who dismissed those criticisms as people "ragebaiting for clout" and in doing so sent a chunk of his 150k followers searching through the pokemon tags to scream at anyone who says any of the art is lacking. Something similar apparently went down weeks ago apparently, that I missed altogether, when someone thought just Sprigatito’s illustration looked poorly done!? Everywhere else on the internet, the overwhelming consensus just seems to be "wow, why do some of the pokemon drawings look so obviously different?" Even 4chan's roasting the twitter trolls

For some of the twitter arguments I had to explain what rotoscoping is and how you can recognize it at a glance. I used Roger Rabbit as an example because when they painted over a real prop to make it a “toon” object it still had that rigid geometry and slightly-too-real depth:

This is the “geometric perfection” I kept trying to explain, a normal drawing just doesn’t have that hyper rigid angular depth. You just get it from either tracing or from stencils. It isn’t even a condemnation of the art, it’s just an observation of what makes it look incongruous to the other art!

There’s also apparently people who think I’m accusing the new pokemon of being AI generated???!! I don’t know how they could have missed the fact that my complaint isn’t even with “the art being soulless” but that it’s just less fun and that it’s more evidence of a dev team being unfairly rushed.

CHRIS’ BRAND IS IN CRISIS 

A steady and constant decline…

Since he came back to social media to sell dog food for the back Friday (a very tactless error in my opinion), Chris has been hemorrhaging followers on Instagram. At this point, he has lost more 500,000 followers. And it keeps going down. I have already written a post about my thoughts regarding those numbers. We can still observe the same trends, his drop is constant and steady but more interestingly his loss of followers was even steeper on January 25th and today. And this is rather concerning for him and his team because the 25th was the day his next movie project was announced. And we know yesterday and today were all about the ASP stunts in DC. And he even got press coverage for it and a nice little article from one of his sponsors: People’s Magazine. 

I have speculated that his team probably didn't buy any bots or not as many as usual when the Coen movie was announced, because they likely wanted to monitor if that news would bring him any natural follows. I suspect the movie announcement didn't bring him any or very few. Or it might have even cost him some real follows. Who knows?

We see the exact same trend today after yesterday’s stunt in DC. It’s actually even a little worse. So we can deduce that his acting career is not helping him at the moment, his brand as a political activist isn’t helping him either. And let’s not even mention his shenanigans with his kinda “wife”. To sum things up, his brand is in crisis.

So his political activism looks not only hypocritical and performative now, it also appears as a rather infuriating provocation. This ASP stunt was very ill-conceived. I am not sure it was his decision to do so. Maybe the investors demanded he did more with the company. But the end result is disastrous all the same.

He and his team should have read the room after the horrible comments he got after that infamous ASP chat about racism and antisemitism. That was his clue to stay away from any kind of political involvement for the time being. But he and his team have doubled down. Like they have done so with the shitshow with Abba since the very beginning. They have managed to alienate so many fans and they continue to do so. It’s not stubbornness at this point, it’s the exact definition of insanity: doing the same things and expecting different results. 

Time for a new brand and a reinvention…

I wrote and I still think Chris is going to be just fine. But his past brand has been really damaged and his rebrand isn't working out so resorting to old tactics and tricks is unlikely to help him regain the fans he lost or to make him gain any new ones.

Interesting enough, he or his team have just cleaned his Instagram once more. And now apart from an ASP promo and one R1 still, it's all about Dodger. The focus on his Dog dad persona might not prove more efficient in regaining his fans though. They have used that poor dog way too much in those shenanigans with Abba, and they have let her use him as well.

I don’t think Christopher’s haven would provide much help at the moment because he already burnt that bridge. And Marvel being a sinking ship at the moment, I am not sure that even his alter ego Captain America could help him. So it’s probably time for a change. The real kind!
