Merry Christmas

Parring: Dr. Spencer Reid x gn!reader

Summary: You throw some Christmas party at your house where you show the BAU team your traditiona

A/N: Hi! So, I'm currently in the 2nd season of CM, so there aren't more characters or anything, I'm new to the series, kinda, so please forgive. Second, the traditions in the ff are my country's traditions. Feel free to share yours in the comments!

"Merry Christmas!" Penelope opened her arms to hug you at the doorframe, big smile decorating her beautiful face. "Thank you for the invitation, sweetheart."

"I'm glad you came." You moved a bit to the side to let your coworker come in. "Make yourself at home, Pen."

"Sure will do." She winked at you and started to walk around your house, from time to time she was making nice comments about the decor.

The next person to come was Spencer. In a red sweater, Mr. "I know it all" greeted you with little, and cute, hand waving, his iconic move.

And after him, the others came in, in the order: Jason, Emily with JJ, Aaron and Derek.

"Your Christmas is a lot different than ours." Started Emily when you put another fish on the table.

"Yeah. Only 12 dishes? You have to try everything? That's insane." Murmured Derek with a glass of dried-fruit juice. "Where did you all get that from?"

"The Bible." Before you could answer, Spencer was faster. "You know, according to the Bible, there were 12 apostles so Catholic countries put 12 dishes on the Christmas table. They also leave an empty seat for an unannounced guest or, more spiritual, for those that had died."

"Yeah." You nodded with a smile. "That's right. Just the tradition, nothing more."

"Tradition is good." Whispered Gideon. "Tells a lot about the person."

"Once again, thank you for having us." Hotchner interrupted the info dump. "It might be a new experience for us, but that's life, right? We learning."

"Oh, stop. You making my angel blush!" Garcia petted your back in a soothing manner but with a smile on her face.

You were glad they came. Hey, they were family and Christmas is family time. You needed them now due to your family being all dead.

After dinner, came the present time! Everyone gathered in the living room and Derek, with a red Santa's hat, started to dispense the presents. Of course, he had to add something funny before giving it to the final owner, which has been making everyone laugh.

The atmosphere was amazing. It felt family-like and you didn't want it to go away any moment soon.

"It's party time!" Said Morgan, and with Emily by his side, they opened champagne and other alcoholic drinks they had brought.

Immediately , it reminded you of New Year Eve and the party your friends had always thrown. There was always lots of alcohol, music, dancing and many more.

"Let's go!" JJ grabbed your wrist and pulled into the dancing circle, you had no other choice but to join them, and you did.

Saying you weren't having the best time of your life would be a lie. You were so happy with those people, you were ready to call the your fucking family, and in your head you were. You loved each of them in your own way, and you hoped they noticed that. Well, they were profilers, they sure did.

The clock on the wall was showing 3:15am, with its quiet ticking interrupting the quiet carols. You turned off the tap in the kitchen and dried your hands. Everyone was asleep, either on the couch, armchairs or floor while you had been washing the dishes and cleaning after the party.

As quiet as possible, you came back to the living room with blankets and covered everyone with one, you didn't want them to catch a cold.

"Happy Christmas." You whispered with a shy smile before you started walking to the stairs.

"Happy Christmas, Y/N." The quiet voice of Reid's made you stop in the half way and smile again before you looked his way.

"I thought you were sleeping. Sorry if I woke you up."

"You didn't, don't worry." He shook his head with his innocent smile you liked so much.

"Would you like to join me for a movie?" You hesitated some time before asking that, it was your little secret.

"Sure." Spencer lifted himself from the armchair and came up to you, then followed you upstairs.

You had this thing, you needed to watch your favourite movie after Christmas Eve to fall asleep. It was hard to explain why only this time of year but you didn't complain. You loved the movie, so it was a pleasure.

"If you don't mind, we will watch 'The Nightmare before Christmas'." You said when you finally reached your room and turned on the TV.

"Whatever you want. I'm fine with that." Spencer sat next to you, on the floor by the bed and placed his head on his knees. "Did you know that Tim Burton only produced the movie, not directed it?"

"I read it somewhere. But thank you for reminding me that." A little smile appeared on your lips before you clicked 'play' and the movie began.

Only a few minutes of the movie passed and in the corner of your eye you saw Spencer rock back and forth.

"You know you can say that, right?" You whispered with your head turned his way and a smile. "That's okay. Go on."

"Did you know that Danny Elfman only voices Jack's singing, not his spoken voice?" With your permission, Reid lets out his kept breath, what made you chuckle, and he started to talk. "He also voices two other characters, Barrel and the Clown."

"Really? That's so amazing." You whispered. "It's good to have you by my side."

"Oh, that's... nothing big." Spencer scratched the back of his head in a shy manner.

You moved on with the movie, with Reid giving you some fun facts about it. And even though you knew all that, you'd been a fan since day one, you've been listening carefully like if you didn't know them. You loved listening to Spencer, you loved his knowledge and how passionately he was sharing it. You loved... Spencer. You liked it or not, you were in love with him and his knowledge.

Unluckily, the movie ended, so did your time with Reid.

"Thank you for your company." You said and turned the TV off. "And thank you for coming...to the party. I had the best time."

"We should be thankful." Chuckled Spencer. "You taught us a lot. We now understand more."

"Don't tell me you don't profile each other on a daily basis?" You joked.

"We do....At least I do. Especially Hotch." Reid looked at the open door as if Aaron was about to come in. "He's the easiest to read."

"True." You both laughed but immediately hushed it because you remembered about sleepyheads downstairs. "Especially his mood."

Your coworker smiled and nodded his head as an agreement.

You both were going along very well, even too well sometimes, from Emily's point of view (good meaning). She really often has been telling you, that you and Spenc were acting like siblings.

"If you want, you can stay here." You offered when Reid started to get up from the ground, you didn't think what were you saying.

"I-...A-... I'll go downstairs. I have my stuff there." He looked hesitant and a bit embarrassed, especially his eyes were hesitant.

"Sure." You nodded and watched him leave the room. "Spenc."

Seconds after him leaving, you called after him and ran up to him.

"Yeah?" Asked Reid with confusion.

"Merry Christmas." Shy kiss was planted on Spencer's cheek before you turned around and disappeared behind the door to your room.

"Me-....merry Christmas." Whispered the man while touching the place your lips touched.

Why I like them: She's everything to me!!!! She's kind, strong, empathetic, emotionally intelligent, totally badass, and unbelievably hot. She's my wife and I love her. She's perfect. 10/10 no notes.

Why I don’t: I do not have an answer for this. I literally cannot think of a single reason not to like her!

Favorite episode (scene if movie): Ugh, it's impossible to pick just one! Either Mirror Image or False Flag.

Favorite season/movie: 13. It's a great season for her, and a great season for Temily.

Favorite line: When she refers to herself as "the woman behind the woman (Emily)." I take this as proof that Temily is canon.

Favorite outfit: GREEN DRESS 🥵

OTP: Temily

Brotp: Talvez (Luke and Tara)

Head Canon: She's a dog person, but has never actually owned a dog.

Unpopular opinion: This fandom's constant sidelining of Tara is deeply rooted in racism and misogyny. The only reason she's not as popular as other characters is because she's a Black woman.

A wish: I wish the fandom would stop treating her like a minor character!

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Her leaving the show

5 words to best describe them: The love of my life!

My nickname for them: Wifey💕

For Emily:

Why I like them: Lesbian with mommy issues who just wants to be accepted and loved. She's just like me fr! Also her growth as a character from season 2 to season 16 is absolutely beautiful to watch.

Why I don’t: I don't like fanon Emily. She's nothing like canon Emily.

Favorite episode (scene if movie): Demonology!!!!!!!

Favorite season/movie: Hmmm I might have to go with 16 because I love gray haired Section Chief Prentiss! I hate so, so much of Evolution, but for Emily purposes, it's an absolute masterpiece.

Favorite line: I have many, but "I've got a Glock leveled at your crotch" certainly stands out!

Favorite outfit: Cargo pants. Iconic lesbian wear.

OTP: Temily!!!!!!!

Brotp: Demily

Head Canon: Her parents divorced when she was in college, and even though she's not close with either of her parents, she has more of a relationship with her mother than with her father.

Unpopular opinion: Almost nobody in this fandom understands her or interprets her correctly. She is NOT a bumbling incompetent. She is NOT chaos personified. She is NOT comic relief. She would also never talk like a Gen Z TikToker. She's a middle-aged federal employee who excels at her job and has close, caring, mature relationships with the people she works with.

A wish: I wish people would stop butchering her character. This includes wishing they would stop shipping her with men.

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Hotchniss. Really any het Emily ship, but especially that one. It's an abomination.

5 words to best describe them: A lesbian for the lesbians!

My nickname for them: Other wifey💕

For JJ:

Why I like them: She's a deep, complex character with so much room for fandom exploration. Also pretty lady make lesbian brain go brrrr 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

Why I don’t: I don't really like the direction her character took in later seasons, when she came back as a profiler. I love media liaison JJ, and I love Evolution JJ, but in seasons 7-15, she just doesn't do it for me like other CM women do.

Favorite episode (scene if movie): Hmmm probably North Mammon?

Favorite season/movie: 5 was a good look for her! I liked the bangs.

Favorite line: "It's not people, it's men."

Favorite outfit: Her Evolution crop top and leggings combo 🥵

OTP: I honestly don't know that I have one? I love Jemily and Jara, but I think Temily is endgame.

Brotp: JJ and Morgan!

Head Canon: If Henry had been a girl, JJ would have named her Rose, after Rosaline.

Unpopular opinion: Reid stans are way too hard on JJ, to the point of being misogynistic about their dislike of her character.

A wish: I wish the Jeid confession had never happened!

An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Will becoming a main character on CM.

I feel like JJ would be good friends with Kristy and it sucks how the show doesn't give us a lot of potential friendships with JJ and the later additions and Kristy. It seems like JJ hardly has any friendship (especially female friendship) moments in the later seasons as most of her interactions are with Reid and Will

I’m with you on this!! I’d love to see JJ and Kristy hang out. They would talk about Matt and the kids, and they meet each other’s kids. JJ jokes that she finds it easier parenting the team than her own children, and Kristy is definitely invited to a lot of girls nights.

Her scenes with Will, sure ok, I understand that, but JJ’s always hung out with Emily and Penelope before him. JJ’s storylines always centered on whether or not she should stay home to take care of her family (a running plot ever since Will was brought back early on). I think CM began writing JJ’s relationship with her family more than just herself when it comes to personal storylines, and there’s so much they could do with her. Reid, I don’t understand all that much because they really don’t have a lot in common outside of work. It’s sweet that she checks in on Diana and he’s the godfather of her kids but other than that, they really don’t have much in common like JJ does with Morgan, Emily, Matt, Luke, Pen, Tara, or even Hotch.

I wish they showed more scenes between Emily, JJ, and Penelope tbh. They are one of the iconic trios of CM! Emily and JJ, especially, I feel that there should’ve been more scenes because they’ve had each other’s backs from the moment Emily joined the team, and the men treated them both poorly in earlier eps. Emily and JJ were closer than everyone in the show that they were practically best friends, and even work well together professionally. Penelope is also her best friend (and canonically is like a sister to JJ!). They brought back a little of their friendship in Evolution once Pen helped out the team, so I’m grateful for that. I just wish that the show remembers that these characters, Emily, Penelope, and JJ especially, used to stick together like glue and relied on each other a lot.

3) What was Amelia's relationship with Elle like? How did she react to the circumstances leading to her leaving the BAU??

4) I love the episode where that kid comes up to Spencer about the investigation of those murders in DC (I think the episode is called Sex Birth Death?)- how would Amelia fit into that, it's a very Spencer heavy episode- will it lead to any developments in their friendship/relationship?

5) Spencer is so cute with his "Physics magic"!! Does he regularly show off this stuff to Amelia like he was showing Penelope and JJ??

6) Emily Prentiss is amazing and i love her and I'm so happy to see that Amelia and her seem to be like besties

Okay idk how far into RITA you are, but their relationship is good! They’re definitely colleagues nor friends, but they care for eachother, if she’d stuck around they’d be besties. Amelia is STRESSED when she leaves, she hates change.

ooooo I haven’t watched that ep in SO LONG, but I actually didn’t write it for Amelia, so uh yeah, no developments.

Part 2

They hadn’t seen one another in 8 years until her boss decided to leave, leaving the position of Team Leader up for grabs. Kate wasn’t the happiest when she found out who it was, but maybe something can change this time round...

Enemies to friends to lovers. CM level violence. AU!

By the time Kate made it back to work, the team had seen a complete change in both her and Dean. They had gone from being icy and rocky with one another to being...kind. Nice. Warm people. Something they never thought they'd witness between their team mate and team leader.

One morning, Garcia had walked in, getting ready to place up a few balloons for Kate's 'welcome back' but Kate has already beat her to the round-room.

Kate had been sat with a couple of files surrounding her and two coffee's on the table including two pasta breakfast bowls. One which was Kate's, the other's was Deans.

"Wha-" Garcia had said upon seeing her. "You're back? But - But you weren't meant to be here for another hour."

Kate gave a 'eesh' face when she saw Garcia and the small handful of balloons. "I know. I'm so sorry."

"No, don't be. It's good that you're back. I just wanted to do something nice and fun before you came back."

Kate slowly stood up and walked over to Garcia. "I love the thought. And I love you."

Garcia smiled. "Fine. You're forgiven. Just hug me first."

"I can do that."

The pair shared a tight hug before pulling away, Garcia handing Kate her balloons. "Welcome back!"

"Thank you." Kate smiled with laughter. "I love them."

"Hey, just...out of curiosity, who have you been here with? And how long have you been here? Because I would have bumped into you on the elevator when I came into work this morning."

"I've been sat with Dean," Kate admitted, placing the balloons out of the way before walking to sit down by the desk again. "I couldn't sleep last night. First day gitters, I guess. So, I came in bright and early. Dean was in before anyone so, we decided to have breakfast together and go over a couple of cases."

"Dean?" Penelope smiled as she looked at Kate.

"Don't give me that look."

"What look?" Garcia asked, innocently. "There's no look."

"Uh, yes there is. It's that one you're giving me right now." Kate told her. "That's you suggestive look."

"I don't have a -"

With a quick movement, Kate snapped a picture of Garcia before showing her. "Oh, wow, there is a face. I thought I was really good at hiding my thoughts."

Garcia gave a small pout of sadness at her secret being uncovered.

"Well, if it makes you feel any better, that's your new icon picture for your contact in my phone."

Garcia smiled again. "Ooh, yay! Please tell me you've found one for JJ. I can never get the perfect picture for her. Of course, she looks perfect in all of her pictures, but that's the problem."

"We'll catch it one day."

"Not on my watch."

"JJ!"

"Hey! You're back!"

"Thank god."

Before long, everyone was back in the conference room, Dean finally coming back from retrieving the new case file.

"How bad?" Kate asked.

"Oregon."

Over the following hours, the team, save for Dean and Kate, studied the latter. They no longer sat on opposite sides and ends of the plane but either across from one another or next to. The talked to one another, mostly eye contact when they did. It was like, over night, they had their own language. They didn't even have to speak or look at one another to know what the other was needing or thinking.

But, the team hadn't seen the nights and late afternoons Kate and Dean had spent together finishing paperwork, consulting on cases and just simply talking.

It was definetly a change of pace compared to the last few months of arguing or heated looks that could kill in an instant. That was even if they looked at one another. Or spoke whilst in the same room.

And now they had landed in Oregon, staying in a local hotel close to the station.

"We've only got so many rooms so some of you will have to bunk."

"I call JJ!" Garcia called out.

"I'm not sharing with Reid." Alvez spoke out. "I love you all, but I need my alone space."

"I'll share with Reid." Emily said, raising her hand.

"I guess that leaves you and me."

Kate took the key from the desk. "You better not snore."

An hour later they were on the case and getting to work.

"Who's for coffee?" Dean asked as he walked in with a palate of coffee's. His tie was off, his sleeves rolled half way up and his blazer was thrown on the back of his chair.

"Ah! You are a saviour!" JJ exclaimed, taking her cup.

Other "thank you"'s came from the others however, as Kate took a sip of her's she scrunched up her face. However before she could say anything, Dean handed her a couple of sugars.

"JJ's right. You are a saviour." Kate smiled, taking them from him whilst a small smile came to his lips before he sat down on the table, one foot still on the floor. Kate had stolen his seat.

"Anything new?"

"A couple of tips but Alverez called. It's nothing but they're checking out another one right now. We're waiting for his call."

Dean nodded, turning his head as he was called in by the lead detective on the case.

Four bodies had turned up in the town in a matter of weeks. All died the same. All cut the same. However, there was only something different between the three women. Hair colour.

And now another had turned up. Only, this time, it was a man. Again.

"Alright, Kate and JJ you're with me. Prentiss, call Alverez - tell him to meet us there. Can you take the witnesses?"

Emily nodded.

"Great. Garcia? Press."

Garcia nodded. "Yes, sir."

"Lets go."

By the time it reached 2am Kate and Dean were the only ones still awake. He had sent everyone to be hours ago since they'd had next to no sleep within two days. But, of course, Kate didn't follow his instructions. Then again, he wasn't following his own.

They had been down stairs at first before transfering everything upstairs so they could continue working in a more comfortable situation.

And, as the clock began to reach half-past, it finally hit Kate.

"Holy shit!" she exclaimed as she threw her hands up into the air, her pen flying with them. "Oh." She was sat crossed-legged on Dean's bed, surrounded in each case file of the victims.

"What?"

"I found his MO."

"You have? I thought we already-"

Kate nodded. "Yeah. We did. But look at their pattern."

Dean took the photos from Kate's hand and looked down at them. "I don't see it."

Kate stood up in frustrastion stood next to him. Pointing at the pictures, she explained; "Look at them. They remind you of anything?"

Dean was a little silent and then, "Oh!"

"See it now?"

"No." he answered honestly.

Kate let out a groan. "Blue dress, blonde hair. The girl, right? Well, look at the guy. Chrisp white shirt, jacket, pocket watch, nice suit. Hair perfect. And then the second vics. Red hair and a purple shirt and blue-ish skirt. Our second vic? Relaxed shirt, slightly longer, jet black hair? How do you not see this? Ugh, right, look. Our third vic?" Kate said, walking over to the bed and picking up the third girl's picture. "Perfect, long blond hair, pink dress, lips as red as the rose?"

"They're Disney couples." Dean said aloud realising what she had spotted. "They're Disney couples! They're...Disney couples?"

Kate nodded and hummed. "And I bet you any money, if he manages to get a third male victim, he'll be in a black shirt and trousers and have a red jacket."

"You're a genius."

Kate shrugged. "I just watched a lot of Disney growing up. It's kinda creepy, if you think about it. Childhood innocence now broken because of some ranging psychopath with a Disney fetish."

"When you put it like that."

Two days later, they finally caught the Unsub about to mark a final victim. Thankfully, he was arrested before he could do so, but another two minutes and the victim could have died.

And now, whilst the others slept peacefully in their rooms, Kate and Dean had finally made it up the stairs and into their room. However, with all the folders and files of old cases, Disney lore and much more, the pair collapsed onto one bed.

"Sometimes I wonder how we can still do this?"

Dean moved his hand from his face to look at her. "Do what?"

"This. No sleep for three days. Crash for a couple of hours and then solve the case before finally being able to get a decent night's sleep."

"Offenders don't take breaks, Carter. But I get your point."

With silence filling the room, it didn't take long until Dean flicked off the light and they were both dead to the world.

By the time they woke up, JJ was knocking on their door, growing louder and louder with each and every knock.

"Come, guys! Wake up! The Plane's ready, we just need to leave."

Kate groaned as she woke up to the light, as did Dean - neither of them realised however that they had moved closer in the night, Dean's arm lay across Kate's side whilst she lay inches from his chest.

"We better get up."

"I hate Mondays." Kate groaned.

"It's Thursday."

"Well, I hate them, too."

Dean managed to crack a small smile as he got up. "Come on, I'll get you coffee."

"Black?"

"As your soul."

Kate smiled, tiredly. "You know me too well, Winchester."

"Come on, before JJ breaks down the door."

Five minutes later, Dean was ready to open the door when Kate stopped him.

"What are you doing?"

"Just, wait. Is JJ out there?"

Dean looked through the peep hole. "Yeah, but-"

"Just...watch."

As Dean opened up the door, JJ began to speak but was halted when a flash went off in her face. "Thank you." Kate said to herself, and JJ.

"Wha-"

"That's what you get for waking me up."

JJ rolled her eyes. "Fine. Just, come on."

By the time they got back on the plane, Kate was half way through her coffee sat across from Dean by the window, Spencer next to her and Emily sat across from him. Alvez was sat at the end of the plane and JJ was fast asleep.

But, even as they all sat in silence, their each were processing their own thought. And what was going on with Dean and Kate's? Well, they couldn't deny it was the best sleep they'd had in years.

Dean and Kate always seemed to find some way to be always touching each other. Whether it be touching legs under the table in the jet as they sat across from one another, like that had done after Oregon, or touching arms when stood next to one another. Or the other having their arm around the other's shoulder - this usually being Dean's arm over Kate's since she was the shorter of the two. The team had even found them holding hand sometimes. This usually happened because they were helping one or the other down or up into something whilst searching a location and clearly they didn't want to let go. But, the odd thing was, neither of them seemed to realise it. It just seemed to happen.

This is what confused the team the most because the pair had gone from hating one another to practically being best-friends over night. They smiled, they laughed, they talked. The team had questioned if they were dating, but since they couldn't just come right out and say it, they had to guess. But, for all that they did, this was just one case they couldn't solve.

Dean and Kate would get coffee together in the mornings. Garcia had caught them a few times at her local coffee shop. Dean knew Kate's order straight from memory as if he'd known it all his life. And she always knew his food order. Just as if she had known it all her life.

They were so in sync on cases that they didn't even had to look at one another to know what the other needed. A case file, a coffee, a screwdriver. That one had been an odd one, something no-one could explain. But Kate found one anyway and handed it to Dean as he was stood in the kitchen listening to the creaking of the cupboard door.

They were always next to one another as well. Dean still did his job as Team Leader of course, and treated everyone the same. But there was just something about his connection to Kate that made it seem different. It ran deeper than even, as the team suspected, Kate and Dean knew.

"I wonder what happened that night." JJ said aloud as herself, Emily, Spencer and Derek sat at the four seats whilst Kate and Dean sat opposite one another at the two seats at the end of the plane, talking and even laughing every now and then.

"What night?" Spencer asked, moving another chess piece.

"When they were kidnapped." JJ said. "They were gone for maybe two hours? And everything since then, they've been like, well..." JJ just nodded towards the pair at the end of the plane.

"Neither of them have talked about it." Emily mentioned. "Maybe they finally talked?"

"Whilst being in a killer's grasp?"

Luke shrugged. "She was put in danger. She was the first of any of us to get a hit whilst out in the field since he took over after Hotch. Maybe that's what changed it?"

"Well, either way, they're both happier." JJ said, her eyes still focused on the pair.

Emily quickly looked over her shoulder. She could see Dean with a clear view, but could only see part of Kate since she was lay with one leg up on the chair.

"Are we sure there's not more to it? I mean, have any of you seen Kate like this before?"

"No."

This was the generic answer becuase, as much as they had all seen Kate happy and smiling and laughing, something about this was...different. And as much as it was their job to read people, there was just something about these two they couldn't put their finger on.

Dean and Kate had gone from hating one another, the hate simply radiating off the gaze they gave one another to something more than friends.

"Maybe they're soulmates?" Spencer offered.

"Soulmates are just a myth." Luke replied.

"Well, during Ancient Greece it was said at the beginning of time humans were first created with four arms, four legs and a head with two faces but with the Gods fearing their power, Zeus split them in half condeming them to always be in search for their other half. Maybe they finally found their other half?"

It was plausable. As much as it was a myth. It was once a belief. Maybe they had found their soulmate. Maybe that was why they couldn't put a finger on it? It was something stronger than just love and friendship. It was a soul connection.
