"Mam says would you ladies like some breakfast?"
"Oh, no, we couldn't possibly take what little you have--" Annagramma began.
"Yes, please, we will be grateful," said Tiffany, louder and quicker. The man nodded, and shut the door.
"Oh, how could you say that?" said Annagramma as his footsteps creaked down. "These are poor people! I thought you would--"
"Shut up, will you?" snapped Tiffany. "Just shut up and wake up! These are real people! They're not some kind of, of, of idea! We will go down there and we will eat breakfast and we'll say how good it is and then we will thank them and they will thank us and we will go! And that will mean everyone has done the right thing by custom, and that will be what's important to them. Besides, they don't think they're poor, because everyone around here is poor! But they're not so poor that they can't afford to do the right things! That would be poor!"
Annagramma was staring at her with her mouth open.
"Be careful what you say next," said Tiffany, breathing heavily. "In fact, don't say anything."

Condescending Belongs to Lady Catherine
Jane Austen sometimes has words follow characters around, like supernumerary with Mrs. Norris from Mansfield Park. Condescend is used the most in reference to Lady Catherine (12 times) and in most other novels it is used for Lady Catherine-esq things/people. It's no surprise the character with the next most condescends (3) is Sir Walter Elliot of Persuasion.
Condescend is rarely used positively, except by Mr. Collins, and is most often a marker of snobbery. It is used in reference to Emma after she visits the Coles and in reference to Sir Thomas, when he is thinking about the distinction between Fanny and his family.
Here are the numbers:
Uses in Pride & Prejudice: 15
Uses in all other novels combined: 10
Within Pride & Prejudice, it is used for 3 characters:
Lady Catherine: 12
Of these, 9 are Mr. Collins speaking about Lady Catherine and 3 are narration.
Fitzwilliam Darcy: 2
it is that I condescended to adopt the measures of art so far as to conceal from him your sister’s being in town. (in his letter)
He is the kind of man, indeed, to whom I should never dare refuse anything, which he condescended to ask. (Mr. Bennet)
Caroline Bingley: 1
“Undoubtedly,” replied Darcy, to whom this remark was chiefly addressed, “there is meanness in all the arts which ladies sometimes condescend to employ for captivation.
I decided not to copy all the condescends associated with Lady Catherine for brevity's sake, to find them you can search "condes" on Project Gutenberg or another online copy of Pride & Prejudice. They are mostly Mr. Collins fawning over Lady Catherine's "kindness".

and thus by a little of that address which Marianne could never condescend to practise
and if Elinor would ever condescend to anticipate enjoyment, she would foresee it there from a variety of sources; (Mrs. Dashwood)
Mansfield Park - 1 use
In vain were the well-meant condescensions of Sir Thomas
Emma - 3 uses
As Harriet now lived, the Martins could not get at her, without seeking her, where hitherto they had wanted either the courage or the condescension to seek her
Emma did not repent her condescension in going to the Coles.
She (Mrs. Elton) was quite one of her (Miss Bates's) worthies—the most amiable, affable, delightful woman—just as accomplished and condescending as Mrs. Elton meant to be considered.
Persuasion - 3 uses
He (Sir Walter) had condescended to mortgage as far as he had the power, but he would never condescend to sell.
Sir Walter prepared with condescending bows for all the afflicted tenantry and cottagers who might have had a hint to show themselves
Lady Susan - 1 use
It would have been trifling with my reputation to allow of his departing with such an impression in my disfavour; in this light, condescension was necessary. (Lady Susan)

Imagine being so blissed out, so far down the goon hole that you let your followers force you to post a face pic; the men bully you, and your fellow sluts encourage them to be meaner, and you to just give in.
Imagine the rush of emotion and validation as the likes, and comments flow in - completely drowning out the whisper of concern and discontent as you watch the reblog count climb higher...and higher...and higher. It was one thing when you were just exposing yourself to your audience friends, but now it's two audiences. Four. Eight. Sixteen. Thirty-two...
Unfortunately for you, you just can't bring yourself to do anything to take it down, or ask people to stop spreading it; the dopamine hit of acceptance and praise is scaling exponentially, and is far more powerful than reason.
Imagine going in for an interview for a job you desperately need, and the interviewer addresses you by your tumblr handle.
Imagine how the bottom would just drop out of your stomach. How you would panic, deny it, maybe you'd even act offended? Imagine how your defiance would crumble as he slowly pulls out his phone and compares your face against your top post.
Imagine how pretty you'd look as you slide out of your chair, onto your knees, and he starts to explain the new role you've actually come to apply for, and the tears start to flow as you realize you don't have a choice. After all, you need this job.

Westerners when undeveloped societies have their centuries-long cultures and biological and spiritual balance destroyed when McDonald's aggressively carves a slice out of their village:
"These poor, hapless, primitive people are losing their precious way of life! We must study them like ants and preserve their low-cholesterol ways in my travel blog!"
Those same Westerners when those very same "primitive" people band together to firmly deny McDonald's access to their village:
"These stupid, evil, primitive people have no idea that they are brainwashed by authoritarianism! We must liberate them so our superior, civilized society can be free to teach them to do better!"

Condescending AND pervy at the same time. Impressive 😂
It’s condescending because, why is he assuming I haven’t been treated well? Because you know men are scum or because you’re trying to put me down so I feel more grateful for you for treating me with common decency?
