It sports large scales on its neck resembling small horns, a threat display with its bright orange tongue, and vestigial wing-like skin extension that its juvenile form used for gliding. It also spits a venomous concoction onto the wounds of its prey, causing a painful burning sensation
The strange varanid and its record in oral traditions later perished in the ensuing conflicts of history. Thus the original source of the fire breathing legend is forever gone, engulfed in flames.
"The Bake-kujira is a ghost-whale that appears as a massive whale skeleton. It is accompanied by strange birds and fish and is purported to be extremely dangerous, smashing boats and leaving a terrible curse on the local village. The arrival of the Bake-kujira represents a terrible inversion of a rare and auspicious occurrence – the instance where a whale travels close enough to shore to be hunted and killed by local fishermen in smaller boats and using only nets, harpoons, and knives." Creatuanary is a challenge created by @dibujantenocturno @joshuacairos_art and @rafater_official where artists have to create (traditional paint, traditional draw, digital 2D, digital 3D) one creature per day in January. For Day 6, here’s Bake-kujira. Azathoth is a supreme outer god in the Lovecraft mythos. Also known as the Blind Dreamer and the Deep Dark (among many many other names), they are generally accepted to be a formless god of chaos. Now, 'formless' is hard to draw, but I had a bit of fun with the idea that they might resemble an organic black hole
