This was not apart of the task but im using this as an excuse to talk about these songs below the cut:

1. Beatles songs fill me with such warmth. Hugs. My sister loved them sm and anything my sister loved, I loved. She was ten years older than me. I was raised on the Beatles. Plus they remind me of my beloved emma ( @love-songs-for-maria ) and her family/her mom. My second family being a Beatles household is so nice c: I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends :')

2. There was a time period where i could Not stop listening to this song. I started making art about it back then; this is absolutely reminding me to finish it omg. Also, this song actually /sampled/ beebadoobee's song "coffee," it's not just like a song they made together. So check out "coffee" for a song about healing that makes me CRY and also feel like I'm being HUGGED. Love u beebadoobee

3. Wow. What a classic. How To Never Stop Being Sad was my ULTIMATE cry song when I was like 13. I still think about some of lines (it reads more like spoken word/poetry with backdrop) more as How To *Stop* Being Sad, yknow? Motivational. Like "Become a background character to your own motion picture" -> Be the main character in your life. Take up space. EXIST. ♡

4. The album this comes from, "In Between Dreams," sounds like childhood. Like sitting on the lil fold down square seats in the back of my dad's old lil red pickup truck as we drive to other side of the island to go dirtbike riding with my mom and brother. It's also become something I dont /have/ to associate with that. I got a vinyl record of it when I was about 15/16 and used to play it while dancing around the front room and making breakfast (various friends and partners over the years there or not). It's also mine. My solo drive peaceful music. Sittin, Waitin, Wishin :)

5. This is the sound of the Spongebob Squarepants Movie ending. That's it. That's what it is. First credits song. One of the rare movie endings where the credits actually go SO HARD and I actually prefer letting them play out. I watched this movie a billion times since it came out when I was a kid. The end credits when this plays show waves crashing and it looks like you're surfing and reminds me of Hawai'i, which is where I was still living when it first came out and I'd watch the DVD endlessly!! Perfect song. 0/0 notes. Ocean Man, Take Me By The Hand, Lead Me To The Land That You Understand

Lastly,, I probably would have skipped a song if I didn't like it bc I've been unliking a lot of my Liked Songs on Spotify lately so that my shuffle on Liked Songs is better and bam! There's the payoff! Didn't even skip one for this ask! Wahoo!

it has given me an idea

pls don’t write for this, i will cry, so let me write!

I NEED A HAPPY ENDING! this was gonna be angsty, but i can’t stay angsty without crying so-

wilbur is chronically ill, and he knows his time is coming. they always dreamed of a child and wanting a happily ever after together, but once he got diagnosed with his condition and given a life expectancy, y/n couldn’t help but grieve for him.

they had so many things they wanted to do! travel the world, he wanted to tour the world with his aspiring band, y/n wanted to watch wilbur play with his child from across the room, they wanted to spend cold, chilly mornings snuggled up with each other at the kitchen island.

but now, they couldn’t. and it broke y/n’s heart.

his life expectancy was coming up. all they could do was wait for something to happen. wait for him to not wake up the next morning.

y/n ranted and cried to the nurses and doctors, talked of what they’ve always wanted to do with him.

y/n spent months upon months at wilbur’s bedside, begging to anyone who would listen that he will be okay, that this is a dream, and that he’s right next to them, cuddling them close to his chest.

and when the day came where he was going to move on and watch y/n from heaven, watch them find someone else to love, watch them run around and spend forever with their family and watch them grow old, they could only wait. but that time never came.

wilbur woke up the next morning.

he woke up everyday for the next week.

he woke up everyday for the next month.

was he okay!

did the doctors and the nurse save him?

no… this can’t be real.

“y/n? wilbur’s gonna be okay. we’ve done everything in our power to save him. he’s going to be with you until the end. he’s going to have to come in for regular checkups and monitoring but he’s fine for the most part!”

and y/n sobbed. cried and wailed. their sweetheart, love of their life was okay!!

he was with them forever now!!

This year is shaping up to be something of a rollercoaster for Beatrice “Beabadoobee” Laus. Peaks have included scoring a viral hit with February’s single Glue Song and spending much of March and April touring the US as the opening act on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.

On the flipside, the Filipino-English singer-songwriter was recently forced to cancel an EU tour due to lingering illness. And then there’s the ongoing controversies at Bea’s record label, Dirty Hit, where label-mate Rina Sawayama is publicly feuding with Matty Healy of The 1975 over culturally insensitive comments made on a podcast.

If any of this drama is weighing on Bea, there were no visible signs at Somerset House, where the 23-year-old was headlining as part of the annual Summer Series. Quietly nonchalant behind a Kermit-green Telecaster, she and her three-piece band strode onstage and ripped through the barbed guitar-pop of Talk from last year’s acclaimed LP Beatopia, before launching straight into 2019’s Apple Cider.

Concision was the watchword throughout, with Bea and her band packing in an impressive 18 songs in just under an hour. Between-song interaction was kept to a minimum too, beyond air kisses and regular declarations of love for her fans. That affection was reciprocated and then some by the youthful, largely female audience, who shrieked wildly during guitar solos and bellowed back every lyric.

On the strength of performances like this, it’s not difficult to see why Bea continues to strike such a chord with Gen Z. Putting a TikTok-friendly twist on Nineties grunge, she proved her guitar hero credentials during Charlie Brown and Care from 2020 debut Fake It Flowers, which balanced sugary vocals with thrillingly serrated guitar distortion. She Plays Bass saw Bea dueling with her bassist during the middle eight, and was briefly reprised at the end to allow the audience to mosh en masse.

Interestingly, the set’s gentler moments were arguably stronger, serving to reinforce Bea’s bedroom-pop roots. The acoustic tropicalia of The Perfect Pair proved especially gorgeous, as did Glue Song’s string-embellished, lullaby-like sweetness, which was cheekily dedicated to “that one sexy motherf**ker out there.”

Stepping out on stage alone at the start of the encore, Bea delivered a dreamy acoustic one-two of forthcoming single The Way Things Go and breakout hit Coffee – as sampled on Powfu’s 2020-smash Death Bed (Coffee For Your Head). Though not due to be released for another week, the breezy guitar-pop of the former elicited a word-perfect singalong.

It all augurs extremely well for album number three – which is reportedly “in the works” – and by extension the rest of the year. Because, after a bumpy few months, there’s no denying that last night Bea got 2023 back on course.
