My aunt called me for a family outing, and I refused because my pain was reaching higher levels and I knew it was flaring up and I just wanted to go to bed. I told her about it, and she goes "I'm tired as well, aren't I going out? I'm so much older than you, I'm still going out with all of you- "
I'm disabled.
I pleaded with my mom to convince her - I was feeling terrible. My pain was sooooooo high I was in tears. And to make matters worse, she told "if you're not coming, then we're not going as well." I felt so terrible.
EVERYBODY told me to suck it up and come along. A cousin was even so sure of why I was hurting, and blamed me for my pain. Told me that I should've listened to her and not done x and that's why I'm in pain.
I'm disabled. I have chronic pain.
And my own mother gave in to peer pressure and I was surrounded by ableists convincing me, blackmailing me to go along with them just so that they don't have to face the guilt of leaving someone behind. It was one of the worst days of my life.
I ended up going, and I cried that night because I was in so much pain. I had been on a bumpy car ride while my arm was flaring up.
Able-bodied people, if you're reading this — please understand that when a disabled person tells you to go somewhere without them, just go. Telling them that you would stay would only make them feel more terrible. And also, believe disabled people when they say they're hurting. PLEASE. Its the one thing we ask of you.

Some rough comic panels about chronic pain.
Becoming physically disabled in my early twenties has opened my eyes to deep rooted ableism and the awful benefits processes in my country. Its been hard, and stressful and there's been many times I've wanted it all to go away: my body hurts, all the time. That changes you! how you live your live, how you cope with tiny things, it affects my physical and mental wellbeing. It's harder, yes. But i deserve to live with dignity and compassion. My life should not be worth any less than an abled-bodied one. And I have pride, because everywhere seems to tell me i shouldn't, and that's a good enough reason as any.
Yeah do I wish i wasn't in pain? sure, but i am. Don't feel sorry for me: support the disabled folks in your life and look out for us.

What is fibromyalgia (did i spell that right?) And why do you think tim and cass have it?
im actually so happy someone asked this! Fibromyalgia (you spelled it right!), commonly just called Fibro, is a chronic pain condition. It causes pain in 18 central points across the body, chronic fatigue, and brain fog. Many doctors think it is caused by traumatic events, stress, or depression. Though the root cause is unknown. It can can be mild with pain that is manageable, but flare ups often leave people bedridden. Or like me, a wheelchair user.
Tim's canon issued with falling asleep in odd places scream chronic fatigued to me. And I can just see him hiding chronic pain for years, not wanting to mention it. Ad someone with fibro so many thingsabout him, just screams that he has it as well. It's honestly hard to explain.
It's pretty similar with Cass. I see her as growing up with it and thinking consent pain was normal. Due to the way she was treated by her biological father. So she just got used to the pain, and bonded with Tim over it, and they got diagnosed around the same time.

I hate that technically I can say I'm disabled due to my fibro, but because it's so "invisible" to the untrained eye, it makes me feel like I should be a fully able-bodied individual and not allowed to say I'm disabled, even if it's occasionally minimally disabled

it's disability awareness month
i'm a multiply disabled LGBTQ+/non-binary person. right now i owe money for doctors' visit copays and i could use some help getting medical items as well. i'm on disability but i only make $560/mo so money is always tight, and these little things add up.
currently i need more compression socks, which help with my low blood pressure and leg pain; i have to wear them every day and most of mine now have holes in them. also on my list are knee braces, a heating pad, and some other items for mental health, PICC line care, and wound care.

[ID: a screenshot that says "Outstanding Balance. You owe $44.00"] if you'd like to support a disabled person this month, please consider dropping a few dollars my way or purchasing something off my amazon wishlist of needed medical items. please also consider reblogging this post! 💓💕

MIGRAINE AWARENESS WEEK 5th-14th SEPTEMBER 2022...
MIGRAINE AWARENESS WEEK 5th-14th SEPTEMBER 2022…
MIGRAINE AWARENESS WEEK – 5th – 14th September – While there is an increasing awareness of migraine and understanding of what it is, not many would disagree that there needs to be more awareness and understanding of how migraines seriously impact lives, with too many people not fully realising what it is like to live with this condition. Migraine Awareness Week is a moment in the year when…

severely disabled trans person recovering from homelessness needs help with bills
hello, my name is equinox, i am a schizophrenic trans person with hypermobile EDS, arthritis, fibromyalgia and degenerative disc disease. i am a cane and wheelchair user. i was just homeless for 6 months, 2 of which were spent in a hotel paying $40/night. i have finally moved into my new apartment after months of back and forth. moving in was costly, as i had to spend hundreds on a storage unit, transportation to get my possessions into my home, and buying necessary things like a bed and desk to work at
i currently need to pay my internet bill, which is necessary for my job, as i run a jewelry & art business online. i was not aware my internet bill was already due as there was some confusion when i was getting my internet set up and my apartment complex delayed my move in date by several weeks. i cannot conduct business without wifi as my phone has limited data per month. i am currently saving up for rent or i would be able to pay this fairy easily:

A lil something I put together for Pride Month this year.
The cane has become a daily tool I can no longer deny, and wanted to create something to show the acceptance of this aspect of my life. Alongside with the many colours I've found through the never ending journey that is self discovery.
I did create one flag myself here, the bottom right purple one. Purple is the colour ribbon used to represent fibromyalgia as well as the butterfly used as symbol for this chronic illness. I took those elements and made my own fibro flag to go with the Disability Pride flag.
Do enjoy and merry Pride Month to ya'll.

I’d love to hear your Tim and Cass fibromyalgia headcanons!!
So first often when diagnosed you'll be told it can be caused by trauma or stress. Before I go to far this is the National Institutes of Healths official definition of fibromyalgia:
Fibromyalgia is a chronic (long-lasting) disorder that causes pain and tenderness throughout the body, as well as fatigue and trouble sleeping. Scientists do not fully understand what causes it, but people with the disorder have a heightened sensitivity to pain.
Okay so that's a whole lot of wonders. Cass went through a lot at a very young age. And had to deal with the majority of it on her own. She probably can't remember a time before pain, and sees it part of normal life. And doesn't seem small injuries ac s big deal. It's take her longer than normal to realize she broke a bone. The fatigue is annoying, and she had to learn to adapt to it. Taking small naks through out the day.
Tim on the other hand, falls asleep in the craziest places in canon. Like on a rollercoaster, and he seems out of it often which makes me think of brain fog. I also project a lot into him and can see him being in pain all the time. But not mentioning it because he doesn't want to be pulled off of patrol. The pain got worse after losing his spleen, and it's harder to cope with.
