I finally got to see Sirius again!

I was up before dawn Saturday, and looked up to find Canis Major in the southern sky. What a delightful surprise!

Canis Major really is the best constellation.

Well, there's Sirius, for one, which speaks for itself. It's one of the closest stars to our solar system at only 8.6 light years away, and is the brightest star in the whole night sky. Plus, y'know, a badass Harry Potter character.

But then there's VY Canis Majoris, which is so cool that if I think about it too long there's a very real risk I'll have a panic attack over it. That star is so big that if it were centered where the sun is in our solar system, we would be inside of it...and so would Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus for part of its orbit. The scale of it is so big I struggle to comprehend it.

Plus, the constellation is a dog.

Like I said, the coolest constellation.

One thing that's so tremendously disheartening about the JK Rowling situation is the complete lack of coverage in the (British) media.

It is not something that should be written off as just some twitter drama. The richest author on the planet, a woman who has a long running BBC TV show based on one book series and another in the works with Max for a separate series, a woman who has millions of followers on socials, theme parks and plays based on her works, who is profiting from her continued role in a generation's nostalgia every single second has- completely literally- denied Nazi crimes. And no-one influential cares. She is not going to face consequences for this.

The only thing more disheartening is that if the press did call her out for (again) literally denying Nazi crimes, it'd just make her book sales go up.

Remus had a reputation for turning everyone away regardless of gender or attraction because of his time of the month.

Sirius sobered up after getting out of his house and though he didn't stop being a merciless flirt, he has eyes only for Remus in that sense.

You can decide for yourself if you want version one or two of James-

(1) James publicly only had eyes for lily and no one else thought they stood a chance, when they did ask though he let them down very easily.

(2) James abruptly stopped any and all pursuits he had for any girls one September after properly seeing Regulus. and so everyone got the idea he has a sweetheart who wasn't at Hogwarts. (maybe that rumour was spread by Sirius. who knows?)

Peter was sweet, smart and had a frame like a small teddy bear. more importantly- he was available and openly so

How much more satisfying would Sirius’s storyline have been if Azkaban operated more like a normal prison instead of the solitary confinement situation it seems to have been, and his time there actually furthered the plot?

Like if after the initial grieving period, he’s fueled purely by rage, and he’s surrounded by Pureblood supremacists who believe he actually sold out the Potters, so he’s like “fuck it, I’m going to become the King of Azkaban and collect so much dirt on every single person even remotely involved in the war, and then I’m going to escape and destroy them all.”

Because Sirius Black knows better than anyone that this shit doesn’t start and end with Voldemort.

So when he does escape, he just rolls up to Remus Lupin’s cottage like, “Honey I’m home, wanna help me kill a rat and dismantle all of Pureblood society?”

And then the OOTP narrative is not “crazy, reckless Sirius is going mad all cooped up in his abusive childhood home” but “crazy, reckless Sirius wants to watch the world burn instead of playing by Dumbledore’s rules,” and Harry and Remus both have to choose a side.
