oh, time turner. ― you could've pushed through the hurdles instead of ending it at once; but the time was going to pass anyways, right? time has done it's work, you're different people now, with different lives and different minds, so why do the two of you still hold onto who you used to be- to each other, you mean. no one can blame you, we all have the same hearts as yesterday after all.
pairing: various x gn!reader
warnings: just angst no comfort, codependency?? or just attachment, both of you are sad and sentimental, this was gnna be a vent but i got carried away and instead made this, i am so sorry. (inspired by promise by laufey if that makes it hit even harder)
art creds: holly warbuton (pls correct me if im wrong hhh)
Tumblr media
time has passed, but the same sparrow still perches at your window sill.
sparrows, they say, represent love- an extension of aphrodite herself, the goddess of love and beauty.
you wish you could say it was ironic; how this same sparrow stilled, perched on your window as your and you partner came to the painful agreement to end things. you wish you could say it's ironic, how this sparrow; who still, despite two years- which people may say it's not a long time, but its seven hundred thirty days. seven hundred thirty days that you heart is left to mend, or your brain is to abandon information to take in something new; something that matters more than something that did seven hundred and thirty days ago. - still perches at your window will. a sparrow that represents love, a sparrow who watched a piece of you walk out with someone, still right there.
you wish you could say- but you can't, because despite the time, the minutes, and the seconds, and the hours, and any and every interval of time, you still love them.
(more under the cut)
the piece of you that they walked out with did not die the moment it left its home. much like how a flower separated from its roots to join a beautiful bouquet- it's quite sad in reality, stripping a flower away from its freedom to make its own food or water itself on its own accord; maybe that's why...
why you still find yourself depending on you ex-lover, or at least, the parts you abandoned of yourself that did depend on your ex-lover, you still hold onto. like the sagging flower- which its sagging may look obnoxious, but really, it's coming apart at it's seams, starting from the stem, to the leaves, to its- begging for it's owner...
'please water me' it begs.
'please look after me, you're all i have. for i cannot walk on two legs. for i cannot turn to the sun on my own- i only have your artificial lighting. for i no longer have my home, my roots.'
you're thankful, at least, that you aren't a flower cut away from its roots, and do not require someone to keep you alive in the same conditions.
however, you do long for that part of you again; along with the care of your ex-lover. it's a different codependency you think- yet, just as shameful.
two long years, he had found you again on social media, sending you a friendly dm, asking to meet at a cafe like old times.
old times. a petal plucked from your head, marking a time in your life you held dear. old times.
you agree, and of course; it's different.
there are old times, and there are new times. old times, as in the name, are not something you can relive, not something you can take back.
you and him are not the same people you were when you were together. but despite all of this- the longing, the string connecting your hearts together is retied. the feelings are left unsaid, but you both know.
you both know it's there but there is no acknowledgement, there is no attempt at rekindling the fire. the both of you know that either way, you will end up hurt.
two years ago, you two were different lovers, different views as to the ones you have now, different attitudes, different lives. so what would be the harm of trying again?
the harm is that you both still have the same heart. new wounds, sure, but mended does not mean new. the scar is still there, the love, the memories, but also the flaws, the causes of your disagreements, and the reason you ended it in the first place.
there was no trying again. this was it. despite the hurt, despite the pain of parting; or despite- if in another universe, you ended up rekindling the fire that burnt out two years ago- the pain that would come if you got back together, there was still love.
you hate to settle. he does too, you know that. the two of you hated to settle because of the possibility of better.
but the two of you always find that, around each other, that's just naturally what you do.
even if it was never down together, you settle.
― men who, despite the pain, still love. who gratefully take a piece of everyone they have every cherished, and cared for it with their entire being: diluc, kaeya, xiao, venti, kazuha, megumi, yuji, yuuta, gorou, kaveh, alhaitham, wriothesley, nanami, neuvillette, childe.

𝕷𝖔𝖗𝖊/𝖘𝖙𝖔𝖗𝖎𝖊𝖘: ~A cunning trickster who had the ability to change his shape and sex, the creator of lightning, hearth fire, the spirit of life. In the beginning he was a beloved friend and honorary member of the Aesir, but toward the end he became an enemy.. Was/is a companion of Odin and Thor, helping them with his clever plans but sometimes causing them embarrassment and difficulties, though also being any enemy of sorts. Though his father was a Jotunn (a giant), his mother was considered a goddess, thus Loki is included among the Aesir.
-Once cut off Thor's wife's hair and was forced to replace it. He tricked dwarves into a wager for his head if they could deliver wonderful gifts the the gods (including the hair). They made a hammer for Thor, A great spear and a drop-near gold bracelet for Odin, A boat and a huge golden boar for Freyr, and of course new hair made of gold for Sif -Thor's wife. Loki then told the dwarves that the wager said that they could only take his head and that they could not damage his neck. They were enraged but Odin told them that they should have paid more attention when making a wager with the god of trickery. Though Loki was still punished by having his mouth sowed shut so he couldn't deceive for a long time.
-One day someone stole Thor's hammer and left a ransom note, later demanding Freya's hand in return for the hammer that protected both Asgard and Midgard. Loki had an idea though, -much to Thor's dismay- he dressed the thunder god as a bride and took advantage of the giant thief's poor sight. (Also disguising himself as a woman) He tricked the giant, successfully making him think that Thor was Freya. As they ate Thor let out his apatite and the giant said something about his bride having a big stomach. To avoid being caught Loki said that the "goddess" was just eager to consummate their marriage. Thor was furious and embarrassed. The giant got excited and foolishly set the hammer on the table next to Thor. The thunder god took his hammer back and smashed the giant's head, all while still wearing his pretty dress. The gods always had fun talking about the time when Thor dressed up in drag.
-One day a builder came to Asgard offering to make them a wall that they needed. He said he could do it in record time, but that he wanted Freya's hand in return. The gods were enraged by his audacity and said no but Loki convinced them to set a wager- he could have the goddess as his wife if he was able to do the impossible task in an impossible amount of time. The idea was that he would try his hardest but not be able to finish in time, therefore giving the gods a free wall that they could just finish the end of. But the builder had a strong and mystical horse that could lift and carry all the large pieces for him. As the builder got closer and closer to finishing with time still left, the other gods we nervous and angry with Loki- who told them he had a plan. He turned himself into a beautiful mare and seduced the builder's horse, running off to the woods with him, and rendering the builder unable to finish the wall. Enraged, the builder revealed himself as a Giant and was killed, his head smashed in by Thor's hammer. Loki returned much later with an eight legged colt; his son Sleipnir which he gifted to Odin when he got older and stronger- in exchange for the horse's origin to be kept secret.
-It's said that he gave humans lightning to warn them of Thor's loud thunder before it happens, because he knew it was frightening. The swift walker of the skies is the lightning running ahead of Thor's great thundering cart.
-Tricked Baldr's blind brother Hodr into throwing the one thing that would kill the god; mistletoe- right at his chest. He indirectly killed Frigg's son; one of the most beloved god's in all the Aesir. As his punishment his one of his sons turned and killed the other and he was tied to a stone in a cave, by his dead son's entrails- a snake coiled on a stalactite above his face, dripping venom down onto him. Though Loki's wife Sigyn sat by his side and held a bowl over his face to protect him, she had to move every once in a while to empty the bowl, allowing the poison to drip onto his face as he convulsed, causing the first earthquakes in Midgard. It is said that he was to break from his chains and aid in Ragnarock. Baldr's story goes on to describe the burning of his body in a funeral pyre on his ship, Nanna accompanying him. BUT in another version, the goddess Frigg persuaded the other gods to restore Balder to life. She repaid their obliging wizardry with kisses. (THIS IS WHERE THIS IS MY THEORY) if the second ending is true and Baldr is alive, I think that Odin would eventually release Loki under the guise that he either not cause Ragnarok or aid the Aesir instead of what was prophesized. [I haven't really thought that a deity was speaking directly to me until I read this story, it's like I saw it and it came at me all at once like a vision. Just thought I'd include it.])

Deity Blurb 04 - Loki
Loki is the heathen god of... what the fuck are you the god of?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let me preface this blurb by saying that pretty much ALL of it is going to be based on UPG. Because while we have written records on Odin or Thor, regarding worship and rituals, there's like. Nothing. On Loki.
And, honestly, if it isn't such a Loki thing to do to have their history so muddled and frustrating for historians or even new pagans to try to research, then I don't know what is.
That being said, Loki:
Loki is a god of natural chaos and change, and mischief/trickery. This sounds bad, but it's neutral. Loki plays the role of the Trickster - that is, they push boundaries, break rules, bring about change, and often point out the flaws of the individual, making clear what someone might be hiding, if even from theirself.
Loki is also called Loptr, Hveđrungr, Loke, and possibly Lođurr. The meaning of the name Loki is so vague that it's probably correct. Posited meanings have been "knot," "lock," "airy," "fire," and "entangler."
Loki has two spouses, the Æsir goddess Sigyn, and the Jötunn giantess Angrbođa. With Sigyn, Loki fathered Narfi and Váli, who both are killed by the Æsir. With Angrbođa, Loki fathers three "monstrous" children: Hel, goddess and queen of the dead; Fenrir, who bit off the hand of Týr; Jörmungandr, the world-serpent. These children were each cast out of Asgard in prevention of a prophecy Odin saw, and thus they were each given the power and motive to fulfil their roles in the prophecy Odin tried to avoid. With the horse of the Jötunn who built Asgard's walls, Loki mothers Odin's beloved Sleipnir, the eight-legged horse capable of traversing the very web of the Wyrd. Lastly, in Hyndlulođ, Loki is described as having consumed a half-burnt heart of some angry woman, which then impregnated them, and Loki then gave birth to what is translated as "troll-women," "ogresses," or "witches." Personally I am partial to the "witches" translation.
Loki's parents were each Jötunn, their father Fárbauti (striker), and their mother Laufey (birch, leafy island). Taking from the meanings of the names, one could say Loki was born by the lightning striking a tree. Again, fire associations.
There is the possibility that Loki originated from a spirit of the hearth, especially the flames within it. Parallels between Loki and Logi (god of wildfire) suggest a splitting off evolution from one singular fire elemental. It makes sense to me, anyways, to think of Loki and Logi as two faces of the same flame - one being the domestic fire, and the other being the all-consuming wildfire.
Alongside all of this - Loki is one of them queers. They're not the only one recorded as using disguises, but when Loki is disguises as someone of the opposite sex (take the handmaiden of Thor as an example), they are consistently referred to as that sex, not as "a man in disguise" but as a woman. Genderfluid representation, babes.
In my practice with Loki, he is much more than a comedic relief or antagonist. Loki is the embodiment of natural change, and it's effects on society and civilization. He is the scapegoat but also the light held up to the shadows shoved in the closet. He tells you point blank what you're doing wrong, without any sugarcoating - in the hopes you will try to change, to work on it. He brings unrestrained force into your life, creativity, passion, change, as the enemy of stagnation. After all, a fire that is not stirred, will die.
Offerings to Loki may include:
alcohol
candies and sweets (especially chocolate, licorice, cinnamon candies)
hot peppers/spicy foods
tobacco/tobacco products
hot chocolate
very sweet tea
scented candles or incense (ginger, cinnamon, pine, vanilla, juniper, dragon's blood, pepper, yew)
coffee
mistletoe (especially during Yule)
toys, trinkets, or puzzles
acts of creation (art, music, playlists)
One may decorate an altar to Loki with their symbols (infinity snake, ouroboros, chaos star, name runes Laguz, Othala, Kennaz, Isa); black, gold, red, orange, violet, or green ribbons/cloths/buttons; a particularly large or multi-wicked candle, or multiple candles; an open offering bowl; tiger's eye, obsidian, smokey quartz, amber, fire agate, mother-of-pearl, lapis lazuli, clear quartz, amethyst, tourmaline; herbs such as beech, pine, juniper, blackthorn, birch, elder, elm, ivy, mullein, thistle, willow, and yew.
Devotional acts to Loki may include shadow work, harmless pranks, exploring personal pradox, examining personal bias, playing games (especially card/dice games or hide-and-seek), telling jokes or stories, researching his family, challenging authority, questioning rules, cooking.
Hail Loki!

What ifs Sigyn's stories
Part 14
So many different universes, so many different possibilities. And in some loves Sigyn and their different stories. Pictures and brief information have been written about some of these possibilities.
But what is her full story, we don't know. But we can spin them further in our thoughts ^^
The whole project here serves to show the possibilities and potential that Sigyn would have had within the Marvel Universe. How she could have been reintroduced, her story made new and more exciting. #JusticeForSigyn stands for creating Sigyn content because Marvel doesn't give us any.

Thorns of Treachery (a Marvel version of the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty) story by @roruna
Tumblr media
Once upon a time, All-Father Odin had one ambition; to rule all nine realms of Yggdrasil. In Midgard, a show of military strength was all it took for them to submit. Other realms, like Jotunheim and Muspelheim resisted even as Odin's armies devastated their lands.
Vanaheim and Nidavellir pledged their loyalty before Odin pointed Gungnir at them. Alfheim resisted until their royal family was wiped out and Odin, decided that to prevent later uprisings, made Freyr Njordson, heir to the throne of Vanaheim, king of Alfheim. Thus cutting him off from loyal subjects that would rally behind him. Freya Njorddottir, Freyr's sister, was crowned queen of Vanaheim.
Meanwhile, Jotunheim was severely weakened but their king still refused to submit. So Odin came up with a plan. It would take time but would achieve the lasting peace and true subjugation of Jotunheim. Odin stole King Laufey's only living son, Loki, and would raise him as his own. The next king of Jotunheim would grow up loyal to Odin and accustomed to Asgardian ways.
At the same time, countless jotnar would fall madly in love with the goddess Freya and go to extreme lengths in the hope of winning her heart or hand. All of them failed. But the jornar’s love for the goddess only seemed to grow and spread through their icy realm.
Then Odin came up with another plan. The frost giants hated everything that reeked of Asgard so they might not accept a king that had been so corrupted by Asgard’s ways. So he would use the frost giants’ obsession with Freya in his favor. He arranged a marriage between his ‘son’, Loki, and Freya’s daughter, Sigyn. However they felt about Asgard, the frost giants would respect a king with a connection to Freya.
The betrothed prince and princess grew up as friends. Queen Frigga would often take Thor and Loki to Vanaheim to visit Freya and Freya would bring Sigyn with her on her trips to Asgard.
When the childhood friends grew up, they became lovers. Everyone was pleased. Queen Frigga was happy that her son had true love. Freya was happy that her family would be connected to Asgard’s royal family. Loki and Sigyn were happy to be together. And of course, Odin was happy that his plans were falling into place.
It was Thor who foiled his father’s plans for conquest. He went to Jotunheim, courting war, and took his closest friends and his younger brother with him. In a skirmish with some frost giants, Loki discovered the truth of his own nature. As punishment for his reckless actions, Odin banished Thor to Midgard to live as a mortal among mortals.
Then Freya found out the truth about her future son-in-law. Outrage at Odin’s deception and hatred for the frost giants prompted her to break off her daughter’s engagement. No matter how Sigyn pleaded, how much she affirmed her love for Loki, her mother refused to budge. Freya hurried to arrange a new marriage for Sigyn when an unassuming warrior named Theoric asked Freya for Sigyn’s hand.
To punish Freya for her defiance and make an example of her, Odin crashed Sigyn’s wedding and cursed her and everyone at the wedding with eternal sleep. His curse could only be broken when Sigyn’s One True Love gave her True Love’s Kiss. What Odin or Freya didn’t know was that Theoric was actually Loki in disguise. Loki and Sigyn had invented ‘Theoric’ so they could still be together. So when Odin cursed everyone at the wedding, he also cursed Loki.
The only person capable of breaking the curse, was another of its victims. Now Sigyn and Loki lay side by side in their eternal rest. Odin’s great ambition to rule Jotunheim was gone.
Vanaheim was left without a queen and Alfheim without a king because why wouldn’t Sigyn’s uncle Freyr attend his dear niece’s wedding.
The power vacuums in Vanaheim and Alfheim require that Odin use up military resources to bring order to the realms and secure the tributes that Asgard had come to depend on.
Jotunheim is emboldened to attack Asgard, rallying behind the desire to avenge their lost prince. Thor remains powerless and banished on Midgard. Odin’s imperial ambitions are lost among the thorns Odin himself grew.
Sigyn The witch of shadows
Tumblr media
The Cherokee grandfather sat silently around the campfire with his granddaughter and thoughtfully watched the flames. The trees around them cast eerie shadows, the fire cracked and flames blazed skyward.
After a certain time, the grandfather said: "Flame light and darkness, like the two wolves that live in our hearts".
His granddaughter looked at him questioningly.
The old Cherokee then began to tell his granddaughter a very old tribal story about a white wolf and a black wolf.
“In each of us lives a white wolf and a black wolf. The white wolf embodies all that is good, the black wolf, all that is bad in us. The white wolf thrives on justice and peace, the black wolf on anger, fear and hatred.
There is an eternal fight between the two wolves, because the black wolf is evil - it stands for the negative in us such as anger, envy, sadness, fear, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride and much more more. The other, the white wolf is good - it is joy, peace, love, hope, kindness, kindness, compassion, generosity, truth and all the light in us.
This battle between the two also takes place in you and in every other person, because we all have these two wolves inside us.”
His granddaughter thought about it for a moment and then asked her grandfather, "And which wolf will win?"
The old Cherokee replied, "The one you feed. Just remember, if you only feed the white wolf, the black one will be lurking around every corner, waiting for you and if you're distracted or weak he'll leap at you to get the attention he needs. The less attention he gets, the harder he will fight the white wolf. But if you pay attention to him, he is happy. The white wolf is also happy and both of them win.
This is the great challenge of each of us... to establish inner balance.
Because the black wolf also has many valuable qualities - these include perseverance, courage, fearlessness, willpower and great intuitive sensitivity, aspects that you need in times when the white wolf doesn't know what to do, because he also has his weaknesses.
You see, the white wolf needs the black wolf at its side. Both belong together. If you feed only one, the other will starve and become uncontrollable. If you feed and care for both, they will do well and be a part of something bigger that can grow in harmony. Feed them both and you don't have to focus your attention on the inner struggle. And when there is no inner struggle, one can hear the inner voice of the all-knowing guides, pointing you in the right direction in every situation.
Peace, my daughter, is the Cherokee mission, is life. Everyone who has the black and white wolf at peace within him has everything. A man or woman who is drawn into his inner war has nothing. Your life is determined by how you deal with your opponent's powers. Don't starve one or the other, feed them both and both win.”
Sigyn Queen of Hearts story by @jonquilclegane
Tumblr media
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess called Sigyn. She was so lovely and so sweet everyone who ever met her could not help but love her. When Queen Frigga asked Queen Freya for one of her daughters, the Queen of Vanaheim was certain the girl she would pick would become Thor’s bride and the future queen of Asgard. So, she chose the kindest and prettiest of her eight daughters, Sigyn. Long blond hair, shining brown eyes filled with softness, and a gentle and courteous demeanor. How could the Golden Prince resist her?
However, to Freya’s surprise, Frigga chose to give her precious daughter to her younger son, Loki. Freya was furious, throwing insults at the Aesir Queen, wasting her perfect daughter on a second-rate groom. Sigyn, though, calmed her mother down, assuring her Loki was far from second-rate or inferior to Thor, quite the opposite. She talked so well of her future husband’s many qualities that not only did her mother agree to the match, but Loki fell even deeper for her. Never had anyone took his defense, no one had ever chosen him over Thor. Before, she had just been some pretty princess he would marry to please his parents. But after that day, after she had proven to him her loyalty and her love, her undying fidelity, how could he not give his heart to his devoted lady?
Loki and Sigyn married, and everyone seemed happy. The new princess of Asgard soon became extremely popular, both with the aristocracy and the commoners. She helped Eir with the sick, was known to be generous and charitable with the poor. Everyone loved her, and the more they loved her, the more they seemed to accept Loki. Soon, people started calling her the “Queen of hearts” and some were beginning to regard her as the next queen, and therefore, Loki as the next king of Asgard.
The AllFather did not like it. This ruined all his plans. Of course, he had adopted Loki and saw him as a son, but a Jotun could not take the throne of Asgard. He would never allow it. Besides, Loki would one day become King of Jotunheim… Could he allow the enemy realm to have such a popular and beloved queen? Wouldn’t the land of Frost giants suddenly become more loved than Asgard with Sigyn by Loki’s side?
Jotunheim had to stay in the Golden realm’s shadow. They could not become more respected or admired than Asgard. They were supposed to be barbarians, savages, monsters to be slain mercilessly for the peace and glory of Asgard. With such a cherished queen, the public opinion would soon change… Odin would not let it happen. So, he tried to ruin Sigyn’s reputation, but nothing worked. He tried to darken and slander even more Loki’s character, but Sigyn would take his side, prove his innocence, and people seemed to love her even more for it.
It was that dreaded Vanir girl’s fault. She was the one ruining his plans. She had to go… but she would not leave Loki. Only one thing could separate them: death.
Odin found the deadliest poison: its effect would be quick, and his sweet daughter-in-law would not suffer too much. When Sigyn took the cup he was handing her, she had no idea. One sip, though, and she looked at the AllFather with surprise, heartbreak, then resignation and tears.
“Loki will kill you for this”, she whispered, before being carried away to Valhalla.
He knew this, of course. But then, Thor would avenge him and become king, while Loki assumed once again the part of the villain, as it should be.
X-Man Sigyn
Tumblr media
Sigyn was born into a Swedish immigrant family. Who emigrated to the USA to found a second mainstay there with their company. She had a sheltered and worry-free life until she hit puberty, which revealed that she was a mutant. When Sigyn's feelings panic, she transforms everyone in the area into ice sculptures.
At the school of Charles Xavier (Professor X) she taught to walk with her powers and for the first time in her life really enjoyed it.

And if she didn't know anything to tell,
Then she lied all the more to her heart's content.
She lied out of necessity and lied out of pleasure
She lied for the sheer joy of lying
Yes, even her dreams were a web of lies -
The faith of the other was only their gain.
And now, when she finally came to die,
And the lying devil took them:
What wonder if such a woman's man
You can't believe her death either?
Then he met him with a running nose
And in a sobbing voice the goddess Loki -
But he cried out loudly, red with anger:
"She lies, she lies! She's just playing dead!'
And broke at all the things he was beginning to love so much about Loki.
The heart of loss was broken and the eyes closed forever.
The thief and the witch Story by @jonquilclegane
Tumblr media
Vanaheim had fallen, and with it, all the prestige of its royal family. Njord, their king, had become a hostage, a glorified prisoner, who died a lonely death, heartbroken, far away from his family. Odin had left him a few personal things, among them his precious books. However, after the fallen king’s demise, none of those treasures were given back to his family. The AllFather decided to keep some of them, and sell the rest to fill Asgard’s coffers with gold.
Stolen gold, Sigyn thought bitterly. She remembered from her childhood her grandfather’s precious volumes or his art collection. He loved them so much! They ought to be back on Vanaheim, adorning the walls of the palace or the library, where they belonged. The Aesirs had stolen those artefacts, just the way they had stolen the Vanir people, turning them into their obedient little vassals. Her uncle Feyr was now a farmer and her mother, Freya, sang and danced to entertain Odin and his court. Their fate was not their own anymore, they had to do what the Conqueror had decided for them.
When the king ordered she married his son Loki, her mother had been ecstatic. This meant the Vanir line would become royal again, her daughter might become a queen, her grandchildren princes and princesses. Even if Sigyn did not want to, Freya insisted so much that she agreed, wanting nothing more but to scream.
There was a good reason for Sigyn to refuse Loki : she lead a double life. During the day, she was some unnoticeable lady-in-waiting, as there were so many. But during the night, she became a thief, stealing all the artifacts Odin had confiscated for his own gain. She also stole other stuff, so it would not be too obvious what her goal was, and who the mysterious thief was. How did she do it? Well, as many Vanirs, Sigyn had a gifted witch. A thief and a witch! Quite a terrific combination! And so, for centuries, she remained unmasked, Odin and his goons running around Asgard, looking like fools, while she tricked them again and again.
She had become one of the AllFather’s most feared enemies, while never hurting anyone. She was only taking back what was rightfully hers, after all. However, if she was to become Prince Loki’s wife, how could she keep on her nightly activities secret? She had five other sisters, why had Queen Frigga picked her?
It turned out Prince Loki himself had chosen her to become his wife. She had hoped he had only picked her because she was the most insignificant Freyadottir. But in fact, he did want her, as she found out on their wedding night.
From then on, Sigyn’s nights were no longer free to roam Asgard and steal what the AllFather had stolen from her family. She could not complain, as her husband was a skilled and passionate lover, but her duty as a Vanir was calling to her.
It was rather ironical when Loki revealed to her he too had been stolen by Odin. Her beloved husband became her most precious treasure on that day. Together, they stole the Casket of Ancient winters and ran away to Jotunheim, using their magic and witchcraft to create a secret passage to Loki’s real home. The thief brought with her all the treasures she had taken back for the Tyrant – among them the Prince of Jotunheim, her most cherished jewel.
The girl in the mirror Story by @jonquilclegane
Tumblr media
Loki was said to have a heart of stone. Loki was said to be cruel, merciless, pure evil. People believed him unable to love, only obsessed with power and the throne of Asgard.
They regarded his poor wife with pity, as she loved him despite everything else: his insults, his hate, his cheating on her with men and women of all kinds.
So, when Sigyn died, no one asked what had happened to her, not even her husband. Thor saw the name of his gentle sister-in-law on the list of the dead and sighed. Such a sorrowful ending for such a sweet lady whose love for her husband was never truly requited. Loki had said once or twice he loved her, but of course, he was probably lying to get her to help him, wasn’t he?
Yes, yes, he surely had been.
And, as to conform this, Loki did not ever ask what had happened to his unfortunate wife, or where she was. Even when he was reborn, a kinder, well-meaning God of Stories, it seemed his brother had all but forgotten about Sigyn. And since his brother seemed changed, or willing to try, Thor never mentioned her ever again. The Lady at last was at peace, probably in Valhalla. There was no point disturbing the rest of the dead, mostly such a sweet goddess who had suffered more than most at the hand of her beloved.
But Thor was mistaken. Loki had no forgotten Sigyn, nore had she ever left him.
She was there, constantly, looking at him.
Every time he looked in a mirror, he could see her, looking back at him, smiling sweetly, laughing, crying. Loki felt his chest squeeze and longed for her in his arms.
She was dead, her body lost, destroyed by Ragnarok. Her death had not been glorious or meaningful, just another civilian losing their life for Asgard. He had not been there to protect her, too busy trying to carry out his own plans. He had left her asleep in their bed… and it had been the last time he had seen her alive.
He still could see her in mirrors, though.
Even if she had not had a hero’s death, he knew she was in Valhalla. She had to be. Such a kind and generous soul could not have been refused by the Valkyries.
Loki thought of his own death : he had been reborn before he could be judged and sent to Hel.
But next time… The God of Evil realized that he had been given another chance. Sigyn was no longer with him. She was stuck in the afterlife while he and other unworthy characters got to live again. He wanted to tell her how sorry he was, how much he truly loved her, how much he missed her.
He could speak to her ghostly reflection, but this was not enough.
Words were not enough, only actions.
In this life, he would be a hero, he would prove himself worthy of Valhalla, so, at the time of his death, Valkyries would come and get him, and he could be reunited with his beloved wife. He would have eternity to make amends and be happy with her, at last.
The Song of Silence
Tumblr media
It was a song that broke the silence, a little melody sung. that rang through the dark garden. But anyone who tried to track down the singer found no one. The singing always fell silent as quickly as it had come.
Siúil, siúil, siúil a run
Siúil go sochair agus siúil go ciúin
Siúil go doras agus ealaigh liom
I wish I was on yonder hill
′Tis there I'd sit and cry my fill
And every tear would turn a mill
Is go dtí tú mo mhuirnín slán
Siúil, siúil, siúil a run
Siúil go sochair agus siúil go ciúin
Siúil go doras agus ealaigh liom
Is go dtí tú mo mhuirnín slán
I'll sell my rod, I'll sell my reel
I'll sell my only spinning wheel
To buy my love a sword of steel
Is go dtí tú mo mhuirnín slán
Siúil, siúil, siúil a run
Siúil go sochair agus siúil go ciúin
Siúil go doras agus ealaigh liom
Is go dtí tú mo mhuirnín slán
I wish, I wish, I wish in vain
I wish I had my heart again
And vainly think I'd not complain
Is go dtí tú mo mhuirnín slán
Siúil, siúil, siúil a run
Siúil go sochair agus siúil go ciúin
Siúil go doras agus ealaigh liom
Is go dtí tú mo mhuirnín slán
And this song resounded through Asgard's garden night after night.

Logyn Meta: Loki & Sigyn’s Family in Myth and Marvel (Comparison)
Tumblr media
The family that is ready to begin Ragnarok in order to defend your honor. It’s a tragic tale, but family is something worth fighting for!
Follow me as we explore this crazy, wonderful family that is probably the most famous of the Myth’s.
We may not know much about Sigyn’s side, but Loki’s side is one that legends are made of.
From the Norse Myths, to Marvel Comics and the MCU, we will see the similarities and differences for each member in the different universes as well as learn facts about each one and why they are important.
Tumblr media
Laufey (or Nál) - Loki’s Mother
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
She is Loki’s Mother in Mythology.
Mostly mentioned by the matronymic, “Loki Laufeyjarson” meaning: Loki Laufey’s Son.
Her name (Laufey) is typically thought to mean leaves/foilage. Nal means Needle.
Not much is known about her. We don’t even know if she was a Goddess, human or giant so it is assumed Loki gets his godhood from her.
In the poem Sörla þáttr, Nál and Laufey are portrayed as the same person: "She was both slender and weak, and for that reason she was called Nál [Needle]."
Laufey is listed among Ásynjar (goddesses) in one of the þulur, an ancestry that perhaps led her son Loki to be "enumerated among the Æsir", as Snorri Sturluson puts it in Gylfaginning.
Related to nature like forests and leaves.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Laufey is Loki’s Father in this universe.
As Loki was born small, a motive of embarrassment for his parents, his existence was kept a secret.
A younger Loki sends Laufey into a fateful battle between Odin, leading the All-Father to claim Loki as a son. Laufey was left for dead, wounded, but alive, leaving a future Loki to kill him.
A group of Frost Giants try to revive Laufey by retrieving his skull. It ends with Malekith performing a spell to resurrect King Laufey.
Laufey hates Loki and thinks of him as a disgrace
It ends with Loki killing his father again after he tries to steal the Casket of Winters and kill Frigga.
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE (MCU)
Same as Marvel Comics Counterpart. Appears in the first Thor movie.
Tumblr media
Fárbauti - Loki’s Father
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
He is Loki’s Father in Mythology.
Attested in the Prose Edda and in Kennings of Viking Age Skalds.
A Jotunn
The Old Norse name Fárbauti has been translated as 'dangerous striker','anger striker',or 'sudden-striker'.
Related to lightning
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Mother of Loki in this universe.
Gave birth to an unusually small child to the annoyance of her husband.
It is said the night Loki was born that she stabbed her own heart with an ice dagger, but Loki suspects Laufey is the one who killed her.
Appears as a figment taken on by a parasite. She’s mostly deceased in the comics.
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE (MCU)
Does not appear or have a reference in the MCU

Loki Laufeyjarson - Son of Laufey & Farbauti. Lover of Sigyn & Angrboda (and many others honestly)
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Everyone already knows the tales about Loki, so I won’t repeat it all again. It’s pretty lengthy. I’ll just point down the basics for him with it.
He’s famous for causing trouble among the gods as the Trickster and God of Mischief. Not a bad guy, but misinterpreted that way, although he can be a dick too. Despite how much he causes trouble for them, he also helps them out of situations too. He just wants to have fun, even if he takes it overboard at times.
Some sources put as Jotun and some say he is Half-Jotun, Half-Aesir (on his mother’s side.)
A well-known Shapeshifter who can be anything: Salmon, Male, Female, Horse. The list just goes on.
A really handsome being who loved to get it on. *finger guns*
Blood Brother’s with Odin. How? We don’t know. It’s interpreted as a friendship or foster-brothers. It’s unclear really.
Gonna start Ragnarok for valid reasons honestly after having his entire family taken away from him or killed by the Gods. #TeamLoki
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Far too many appearances to document here from 1942 to present. There has been some retcons as well with the fact the current Loki has been reborn in a new incarnation also known as Ikol.
In the comics Loki is the adopted son of Odin and Frigga and Adoptive brother to Thor & Balder.
He’s depicted as being the God of Evil in the classic comics serval times. In fact, it’s one of his titles.
Depending on the writer for the classic comics, Loki can have moments of humanity, but all around he causes trouble.
Just wants to rule Asgard and get rid of Thor who is his enemy.
He’s honestly a bad guy most of the time in the classic comics #VillianTrope
I personally have yet to read any current comics of Loki that aren’t the classics so this is where my knowledge and research stops.
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE (MCU)
First off, Tom Hiddleston as Loki is just *chefs kiss* perfection.
Pretty much the same as comics except for the fact he isn’t really a villain. He plays tricks on people for fun and laughs and truly cares about his family.
However, things change when he discovers the truth that he is a Jotun and has been lied to about it his whole life despite being told countless stories of how Jotun’s are monsters to be slain (You fucked up a perfectly good kid, Odin. Look, he has anxiety and trauma.)
He develops major identity problems on top of others things, but despite it, Loki tries to still do best by his family as he wants to belong. Yes, he becomes a villain in The Avengers movie, but not for the hell of it. #Thanos
Honestly, he just deserves better. That’s where this leads. Thank you.

Angrboda - Loki’s Consort/Lover (Fenrir, Jormungandr & Hel’s Mother)
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
She is only mentioned once in the Poetic Edda as the mother of Fenrir by Loki. The Prose Edda describes her as "a giantess in Jotunheim" and as the mother of three monsters: the wolf Fenrir, the Midgard serpent Jörmungand, and the ruler of the dead Hel.
A Jotun known as Mother of Monsters and Giantess of Ironwood.
In Old Norse, Angrboda means: 'the one who brings grief', 'she-who-offers-sorrow', or 'harm-bidder'.
According to scholars, the name Angrboða is probably a late invention dating from no earlier than the 12th century, although the tradition of the three monsters born of Loki and a jötunn may be of a higher age.
Some scholars say she was a very powerful witch and that she had the ability to see into the future. She was confined to Hel and would not be released from the realm of the dead until Loki was unbound.
In some versions of the Myth’s she knows her children will bring about the end of the world (Ragnarok) as well as being a witch set on fire three times before Loki eats her heart.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
A giantess of Jotunheim and a Witch.
Born to Elderspawn Vârcolac and Echidna.
She mated with Loki and gave birth to Fenrir and Jormungadr. Legends say she also gave birth to Hela, but it seems to be nothing more but legends.
Angrboda died of unknown causes and was sent to the Underworld of Hel.
When Thor needed to know how to get to Hela's realm because she had been taking mortals to Niffleheim, he went to the Hlidskjalf and summoned Angerboda from the underworld, forcing her to tell him how to get there. Once she revealed to Thor the path he had to follow, she tried to take him with her to the underworld.
Only has one appearance in the comics -- Thor #360 (1985)

Sleipnir - Loki’s Son
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Attested in the Poetic and Prose Edda. In both Sleipnir is Odin's eight-legged steed and child of Loki by Svaðilfari. He is described as the best of all horses.
The Prose Edda contains extra information saying he is grey.
Old Norse meaning: Slippy or the Slipper.
Sleipnir is also mentioned in a riddle found in the 13th century legendary saga Hervarar saga ok Heiðreks, in the 13th-century legendary saga Völsunga saga as the ancestor of the horse Grani, and book I of Gesta Danorum, written in the 12th century by Saxo Grammaticus, contains an episode considered by many scholars to involve Sleipnir. Sleipnir is generally accepted as depicted on two 8th century Gotlandic image stones: the Tjängvide image stone and the Ardre VIII image stone.
Scholarly theories have been proposed regarding Sleipnir's potential connection to shamanic practices among the Norse pagans.
Sleipnir was born when Loki shape-shifted into a mare and became pregnant by the stallion of a giant, as is recounted in the tale of The Fortification of Asgard.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
There are two different origins for Sleipnir in the comics: 1. Thor fighting off an army of the undead on Midgard. He promised to help as long as his horses weren’t eaten, however, Thor was betrayed and took his horses remains back to Asgard, coupling it with Asgardian Magic to create Sleipneir. 2. Loki had hastily agreed to let a Frost Giant re-build the wall around Asgard, in exchange for the Moon, the Sun, and Freya, only he had to do it in six months. The Frost Giant had only asked to use his grey stallion, Svadilfari. Right as the last brick was about to be placed, Loki transformed into a beautiful white mare, and lured Svadilfari off. Loki later gave birth to Sleipnir. (Just like in the Myths.)
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE (MCU)
Odin’s eight-legged steed.
Sleipnir’s origins are unknown. He appears in the first Thor Movie.
Tumblr media
Fenrir Wolf - Loki & Angrboda’s Son
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Attested in the Prose and Poetic Edda as the first son of the Jotun couple. He is a wolf destined to kill Odin. So, they bind and seal him when he's still young, with Tyr losing his arm in the process. When Ragnarok comes, he indeed kills Odin, but is killed by Odin's son Vidar in return.
Fenrir is the father of the wolves Sköll and Hati Hróðvitnisson.
In the Prose Edda, additional information is given about Fenrir, including that, due to the gods' knowledge of prophecies foretelling great trouble from Fenrir and his rapid growth, the gods bound him, and as a result Fenrir bit off the right hand of the god Týr.
No chain can hold him, except for Gleipnir, a rope made by Dwarves containing the roots of a mountain, the breath of a fish, the sound of a cat's footfall, the sinews of a bear, the beard of a woman and the spittle of a bird, all of which were impossible items to obtain.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Pretty much the same as his Mythos with some additional storylines.
When Raganrok happened, Fenrir was reborn with the other gods on the New Asgard universe on Midgard. No details of his fate on Earth have been revealed.
Fenrir helped the mutant Wolfsbane as she was carrying the child of one of his descendants.
It is one of the few individuals believed to be more powerful, or equally as powerful, as Dormammu; the others being galactic entities like The Beyonder.
Fenrir is Genderfluid in the comics.
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE (MCU)
Fenris is a giant Asgardian Wolf who serves under Hela and is portrayed as Female. She resurrects her as they take over Asgard.
Instead of being her brother, Fenris is her loyal companion and mount.
Fenris ends up getting into a fight against Hulk as he pushes her off, sending her falling into the void below to her supposed death.
Appears in Thor: Ragnarok.
Tumblr media
Hel - Loki & Angrboda’s Daughter
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Attested in the Prose and Poetic Edda. She is a giantess/goddess who resides over the Underworld that is also called Hel, a place where many of the dead reside. She is the daughter of Loki and Angrboda, sister to Fenrir and Jormungandr and usually depicted as the youngest of the three.
Goddess of Death and Graves and ruler of Hel who welcomes the souls of those who died of old age, disease or by accident.
Hel is described as having been appointed by the god Odin as ruler of a realm of the same name, located in Niflheim.
The Prose Edda details that Hel rules over vast mansions with many servants in her underworld realm and plays a key role in the attempted resurrection of the god Baldr.
Old Norse Name Meaning: Hidden
She’s mostly mentioned only in passing. Snorri describes her appearance as being half-black, half-white, and with a perpetually grim and fierce expression on her face.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Renamed Hela in the comics.
Allegedly the daughter of Loki and Angrboda, but it’s never made clear or stated. Hela's genealogy is the subject of controversies and retellings.
Her path pretty much follows her Mythos where she is destined to do terrible things and Odin makes her the ruler over the dead in the realms of Hel and Niflheim until maturity.
At some point, she was considered the daughter of Odin and of a long-lost goddess.
Honestly, she usually tries to expand her powers, wanting to rule over Vahalla and obtain Asgardian souls.
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE (MCU):
Appears in Thor: Ragnarok as Odin’s firstborn and only daughter. Sister to Thor and Loki.
Kinda pissed her dad locked her away and wants to rule Asgard and take revenge.
The cause of Ragnarok and supposedly dies on Asgard after everything is said in done in the movie.
Tumblr media
Jormungandr - Loki & Angrboda’s Son
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Usually depicted as the middle child of Loki and Angrboda, he is known as the Midgard Serpent or World Serpent who is a giant snake. When Odin takes Loki’s kids away from him, he tosses Jormungadr into the ocean that encircles Midgard. The serpent grew so large that is was able to surround the Earth and grasp it’s own tail. When it releases it’s tail, Ragnarok will begin and he will fight his arch-enemy, Thor.
The major sources for myths about Jörmungandr are the Prose Edda, the skaldic poem Húsdrápa, and the Eddic poems Hymiskviða and Völuspá. Other sources include the early skaldic poem Ragnarsdrápa and kennings in other skaldic poems; for example, in Þórsdrápa, faðir lögseims, "father of the sea-thread", is used as a kenning for Loki. There are also several image stones depicting the story of Thor fishing for Jörmungandr.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Both Loki and Angerboda were descended from the Frost Giants of Jotunheim and were of humanoid appearance; however, the sons Angerboda bore Loki, Jormungand and the Fenris Wolf, did not. It has been suggested that Jormungand and the Fenris Wolf were born as sentient animals because their parents each had the magical ability to change his or her own shape. Hence, Jormungand and the Fenris Wolf each bear the form of the animal that their parents had assumed at the moment they were conceived.
Jormungandr follows the same as his Mythos to a certain degree with his fate to fight Thor during Ragnarok as the God of Thunder would die from his venom.

Sigyn - Loki’s Wife
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Sadly, not many stories that have Sigyn in them have survived to this day. She is only attested in the followings works: Poetic Edda & Prose Edda.
The most famous of her story tells of how Loki has been bound by the gods with the guts of his son, Nari, and how his son, Vari, has been turned into a wolf. The Goddess Skadi fastens a venomous snake over Loki’s face, from which venom drips. Sigyn, stated as Loki’s wife, stays by his side and holds a basin under and catches the venom so it won’t drip onto her husband, but when the basin grows full, she pulls it away to empty it, during which time venom drops onto Loki, causing him to wither so violently that earthquakes occur that shake the entire earth.
In the poem, Gylfaginning, Sigyn is introduced in Chapter 31 as being married to Loki and that they have a son by the name of “Narfi or Nari”. She is then mentioned again in Chapter 50 where events are described differently than in Lokasenna; Vali, described as a son of Loki only, is changed into a wolf by the gods and rips apart his brother, “Narfi or Nari.” The guts of Nari are then used to tie Loki to three stones, after which the guts turn to iron, and Skadi places a snake above Loki. Sigyn of course catches the venom in a bowl. This process is repeated until he breaks free, setting Ragnarok into motion.
In the poem, Skáldskaparmál, Sigyn is introduced as a goddess, an Æsir, where the gods are holding a feast for their visitors and in kennings for Loki: “husband of Sigyn” and “cargo [Loki] of incantation-fetter’s [Sigyn’s] arms.”
Old Norse Name meaning: Victory Girlfriend.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Lonely and looking for female companionship, Loki ends up coming across Sigyn and plans to make her his. However, she is already engaged to a warrior of Odin’s Crimson Hawks -- Theoric. Hence, Loki sets up a trap to have Theoric killed during a mission so Loki can disguise himself as Theoric. Once they are wed, Loki reveals himself and despite Odin attempting to annul the marriage (which goes against Asgardian Law)), Sigyn tells the Allfather that she will follow the duties of a loyal wife since she is Loki’s now.
This is when Odin proclaims her to be the Goddess of Fidelity. This was a thing first started by the Marvel Comics.
Sigyn doesn’t have much of an agency in the comics except being a loyal wife to Loki, sometimes going along with his plans or getting on him for it.
I personally haven’t been able to find any evidence of Sigyn’s parents being Iwaldi and Freya in the comics, so I’m not sure if this fact is Fanon or not.
Sigyn has suddenly seemed to vanish from the comics with her last official appearance being in 1996. It has been allueded at that she died or was killed during Ragnarok.
Her relationship with Loki in the comics is...complicated and changes a lot depending on the writer.

Narvi/Narfi & Vali - Loki & Sigyn’s Sons
NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Not much is known about Narfi and Vali except for being Loki & Sigyn’s sons with Vali being transformed into a wolf by the gods and killing his brother whose inners are used as a chain to bind Loki in the cave.
Narfi and Vali are referred to in a number of sources. According to the Gylfaginning section of Snorri Sturluson's Prose Edda, he was also called Nari and was killed by his brother Váli, who was transformed into a wolf; in a prose passage at the end of the Eddic poem "Lokasenna", Váli became a wolf and his brother Nari was killed.
Snorri also names "Nari or Narfi" as the son of Loki and his wife Sigyn earlier in Gylfaginning, and lists "father of Nari" as a heiti for Loki in the Skáldskaparmál section of his work.
Narfi’s name could mean “Corpse” in Old Norse, relating to how he was killed by his brother.
There's no mention of what became of Vali after he became a wolf.
MARVEL COMICS (Earth 616)
Narvi never makes an appearance in the comics and is only mentioned in: Free Comics Book Day Vol 2018 Avengers.
There is a Vali in the comics called Vali Halfling. He is the son of loki and a unnamed mortal woman. So, I don’t consider this to be the same Vali that is the son of Loki and Sigyn.

Thanks for reading everyone. This required a bunch of research, but I hope this helps and has been educational. We only have what we can work with considering the surviving myths, but there is so many stories out there that we don’t know of that aren’t clear because of it.
I tried my best to cover everything I knew about them in Marvel too, but sometimes so many retcons is too much to keep up with. I know there may be some errors in places, but it’s the best I could get this with what we have to work with.
