GLEAM AND GLITTER — Torn from her family at an early age during a trading excursion gone utterly wrong, Gossamer found refuge in the Reaching Woods... and at the worst of times, given the depths of winter left the forest cloaked in an almost hostile chill. Elturel was too far away for her to find her way back, and her parents were nowhere to be found, same as her elder sister. Beside a half-frozen stream, she discovered a boy who couldn't have been one summer older than her, similarly lost, similarly freezing. "My auntie said there was only two things could warm her up," Gossamer offered. "A keg and a laugh. Can I make you laugh?" The boy looked up at her with eyes that were slightly too blue. "Can you?"

"Gossamer is dead… right? Glass, their heart that's falling apart, isn't so sure, because even though the despondent rat has given up and gone ghostly, their heart is still beating. While Gossamer has accepted their death, Glass doesn't want to give up the ghost just yet. They urge Gossamer out of their cage to find a way to regain corporeality, and together they learn what it takes to want to keep living."
