So I've got some extra time to kill at the moment, so I'm reading the gwenpool comics. I never made it to the Strikes Back run, so guess that's where I'm starting back up.

Page 4 and she’s flossing while giving exposition. Aside from just feeling awkward, this comic came out in 2019. I'm like 99% it would've felt dated when it came out.

It's already been established that she doesn't like the Deadpool comics because they were too "lol memes" for her, and now she's doing fortnight dances and talking directly to the audience.

I know she’s not exactly writen consistency, and this run is one of the worst examples of it, but deer lord. The story hasn't even started and the cracks are already showing. What have I gotten myself into?

What’s funny about that though is that due to a pocket dimension adventure in the finale arc of ‘Spider-Man/Deadpool’ (where Gwen was randomly made a main character), Gwen actually was able to get access to real world films and comics, circa early 2019 (just pre-pandemic), and she even referenced this in ‘GwenPool Strikes Back’, texting about ‘Avengers: Endgame’ with Quentin and taking about how she’s been liking ‘The Immortal Hulk’ — with her still having her comic book rack and desk from that arc in ‘MODOK: Head Games’. Therefore meaning that Gwen watched ‘Endgame’ without seeing ‘Age of Ultron’ — it being unclear now if she only watched ‘Endgame’, or a lot of content that just happened not to include ‘Age of Ultron’.

See the funny thing about this is that it’s clearly in reference to some post I made but I could not tell you what it was. This feels like a person coming up to you and being like “and another thing!” but the last time you spoke was months ago and you’ve obviously forgotten about the conversation but they clearly haven’t

Originally, I wasn't going to do this guide since I'm using the Wiki to vet queer characters I've never heard of, and I knew about America Chavez. I'd read about her in stuff like Avengers and The Ultimates.

But it occurred to me when someone had to correct me on her origin, that I don't actually know anything about her at all. So, I decided to do this guide so I could learn everything there is to know about America. Honestly, I'm glad I did. She has a lot of VERY good and VERY queer gems.

I've probably purchased more trades for America Chavez ALONE than I have for any other guide I've made to date (With the exception of Eternals, since I own that FULL collection).

**READ AMERICA CHAVEZ: MADE IN THE USA AT YOUR OWN RISK. They retcon America's ENTIRE storyline in this and completely ruin her character, but it gives closure to her arc with Ramone and the West Coast Avengers. It just sucks super bad.

I would also like to note here that America starts out pretty shaky with Vengeance and then hits her best years in Young Avengers, America (2017), and West Coast Avengers, but then somewhere along the line she becomes a "misfit" character and stops getting good storylines that end in a terrible character sniping retcon. We hate to see it 😔😔😔😔.

Basically Gwen got an update to 2016 information in the ‘The Unbelievable GwenPool’ arc “Beyond the Fourth Wall”, then got another update to 2019 information in the ‘Spider-Man/Deadpool’ arc “EventPool” (hence how she had seen ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and read ‘The Immortal Hulk’ by “GwenPool Strikes Back”) but what is interesting is that @jeremywhitley has backtracked a bit from and said Gwen still hasn’t seen ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ or heard of the pandemic, so I think it’s funny that of the things she chose to get updates on during “EventPool” (which she could be seen still reading up on in ‘M.O.D.O.K.: Head Games”), she didn’t get updates on those two.

I guess I missed that Spider-Man/Deadpool thing. I check weekly on PreviewsWorld for comics with Gwen in the name (and keep getting results for Spider-Gwen,) but I usually end up missing when she pops up in other people's books. It was blind luck that I spotted MODOK in my LCS and saw Gwen on the cover. I'll have to look up EventPool.

So did you read ‘West Coast Avengers’ and ‘The Superior Spider-Man’ in-between ‘The Unbelievable GwenPool’ and ‘GwenPool Strikes Back’? Because that is necessary to get the true picture of it all. There is also the ‘Spider-Man/Deadpool’ finale arc “EventPool”, if you were wondering how Gwen ended up seeing ‘Avengers: Endgame’ when she left reality in 2015 (getting another update up to 2019 after her previous 2016 update in “Beyond the Fourth Wall”).

I did not. Reading team ongoings for one specific character is torture. I’ll peep the MODOK mini though.
