No, because I don't think people realize how lucky we are that Voldy doesn't have emotions.

I mean, imagine what would have happened if Moldemort had empathy? He still would have killed Lilly and James bc they disobeyed him, but. Harry. He did nothing wrong.

If he had taken him in, changed his last name to Riddle, it would been over. Like, he would have all the best things, would know spells and parseltoung by 9, and would probably act like a quiet version of Draco, just waaaaaaaaay more dangerous and intimidating. He'd never know about the prophecy, he wouldn't trust Dumb as a door, he'd be sadistic and cruel, and the Wizarding world would have been doomed. Their savior was already practicing unforgivable curses at 10, how would he save them from his own father? The person that raised and cared for him his entire life? Answer, he wouldn't. He'd rule over muggles and mudbloods along side him, happy as can be.

And if you want to make it REALLY fucked, Voldy may just decide to marry him. Make him his officially. Make sure Harry didn't know how wrong it was. Groom him. And watch as the whole Wizarding world lost hope completely.

“What in Merlin’s name are you doing, Potter?”

Voldemort watched him, leaning against the doorway of little Harry’s bedroom. Harry, big Harry that was, had to admit that Voldemort did look much nicer this way. The way his shirt sleeves were rolled up drew Harry’s eyes right to the pale skin of his forearms and his trousers certainly helped to accent certain assets.

“Are you attempting to diffuse a bomb?” Voldemort asked, drawing Harry’s attention back to the screaming toddler he was holding.

“Kind of feels that way.” No matter what he did, Harry wouldn’t stop crying. Maybe the cupboard had muffling charms and that’s why his aunt and uncle shoved him in there, he thought and then immediately felt awful. “Smells that way too.” Harry let out a huff. “He just won’t stop crying. He hates me.”

“Of course he hates you. How would you like it if someone was holding you by your arms?”

“I mean…”

Voldemort rolled his eyes and stepped into the room, plucking little Harry from Harry’s hands.

“Your older self is an idiot,” the Dark Lord said disparagingly, and Little Harry giggled as he calmed down. Figures that he liked Voldemort better. Traitor. Voldemort looked back up. “How is it, between the two of us, that I’m the one with the experience dealing with children?”

Hello! The FB group I'm part of is having trouble locating a fic and I figured y'all are amazing and could help. Here is what the OP remembers:

"The light side betrays Harry, and gives him to Voldemort in hopes that he will kill him.

Ron an Hermione gives him to some death eaters at the train station, and Harry just goes numb with betrayal.

They use some special kind of marriage vowes that alert the ministry, and Dumbledore is put in front of the Wizengamot to answers for why he “sent Harry to his death”"

Fest - @hprecfest. Day 14 - A favorite series.

Today's rec is an obvious choice! The first fic I recced :D

"...we, in our imperfections and desperate loneliness, crave to seek and hold and be held, as is the course of human things."

Pandemic is a fic about loneliness, hope and healing. Harry is so lonely during the pandemic and his depression creates an Obscurial.

This is a sweeping epic which shows the mental health and social tolls of the covid pandemic, takes us on a ride through 20th century history of Europe framing it in Wizarding history to underline that we still have the same human wants/needs.

Also a fic about destiny. Delphi's destiny! I have a lot of problems with CC but a big one is about how Voldemort's kid is evil like it's a DNA thing. Pandemic is a brilliant deconstruction of that trope. This is the best Delphi I have read. She is literally The Cursed Child in Job's Coffin. Job's Coffin is the name for the stars at the heart of the constellation of Delphinus "the Dolphin".

Four stars forming the shape of a coffin representing the four men who influenced Delphi (Harry, Voldemort, Dumbledore, Grindelwald).

Just like how the sentient houses and castles in the Wizarding World are the coffin for the wizards/for magic. Also just like how you don't need magic to be in a coffin because sometimes families are coffins/house of blues like the Dursleys are for Harry.

This is not a story about coffins! This is a story about escaping them!

Catullus 16, which I recced yesterday, uses a lot of One Thousand and One nights stories. Pandemic is literally the story behind the story. It's about Sultan and Scheherazade, about loving the unlovable, about being incredibly incredibly resourceful when you are hopeless. It's about breaking the power of Harry's Obscurial/the power of the Sultan's fears/breaking free from the coffin of loneliness :D Sorry went poetic! But it is a poetic fic!

Obviously this series is really deep and I suck at explaining. So I am going to skip that. I really love the characterizations.

Voldemort is somebody looking for a name/an identity his whole life because his birth identity gives him so much dysphoria. He is pretty selfish but also he loves his daughter. Delphi is incredibly happy/cheerful because he's literally using love magic to make her happy when a lot of tragedies happen. Lily used it to save Harry. The parallels are. Yeah. Fate's gonna go where it's gonna go and Voldemort doesn't want to accept that.

It's people and their loneliness. Dumbledore locked up Grindelwald. Snape is his own coffin. Always! Narcissa Malfoy doesn't really leave the dysfunctional Black family coffin. Harry is lonely because he doesn't want to give anybody a chance if they are not The One.

The finale is intense so you are going to be haunted forever. The ending is bittersweet. Harry and Voldemort are together, Delphi survives. Hawthorn will heal your heart after wrecking it first.

What do you think of more “loyal” followers reaction to Harry’s crush on Voldemort or even better Voldemort’s reaction to Harry’s crush on him?

I personally think that Voldemort wouldn't care all that much.

You're probably wondering about the second option, manipulation and possible reciprocation, in my head there certainly is a tiny little crush forming on Voldemort's end but of course he doesn't do anything about it, he's the Dark Lord, not a monster.

If Harry survives past 17 and joins Voldemort, it's free game, but until then Voldemort isn't gonna do anything.

Now let me explain why he doesn't care. Voldemort doesn't feel love or attraction the way other people do. The closest feeling he feels that are similar to that are for Bellatrix. So he assumes that Harry, being his prophecied enemy, must feel emotion the same way so he doesn't care, he doesn't think it's genuine. He doesn't think it's anything other that a maybe too hyped form of twisted admiration. He doesn't dare think of another option it'd be a shame to kill the only person that could ever truly love him.

Of course he's a little flabbergasted at first, but gets over it not really. He plans a raid or does something so evil that it also makes him thing that he's as unlovable as others make him out to be and sticks to the idea that he's unlovable to the day he dies. If he plans to make Harry's death a little less painful that he originally intended that's not anyone's business but his own.

His followers don't get over it as quickly as he does. I mean Bellatrix does, but that is because she is delighted to finally have a "competent rival in the cruel war for love". Her words, not mine.

They, the followers, now try to get Harry to join their side but, needles to say, it doesn't go well. So they take the example of their lord and ignore the boy and his dangerous crush completely. Though, when they see him in the battlefield, they go harder at him. You know, more crucio, more avada kedavra, more dangerous spells and more teaming up on him specifically.

“Ugh! Smells like Hadrian’s exes” Draco shivered, hastily wiping it off of his cheek “Remind me again, why I always get into these situations again?”

“Because you’re an incorrigible, arrogant busybody?” Arabella deadpanned, leaning her back against the cave.

Arabella didn’t think she could deal with this for one more second. She should’ve hid the book from her two idiotic best friends when she had the chance. Then again how was she supposed to know that Hadrian and Draco would switch bodies.

“Wait a second…I think I got an idea” he grinned, quickly clipping back his hair.

“Draco, I don’t think putting Hadrian’s hair up is supposed to do something”

“Oh yea?”

The rotting corpse began to sway its hips, walking towards the green eyed man.

“What the fuck?” Arabella swallowed in disgust and fear.

“See Bella?” Draco smiled smugly. “I’ll have these walking dead idiots putty in my-“

The inferi cut him off, tackling him down to the ground and screeching in his ear.

“WAIT NO, I DON’T DO FOREPLAY WITH CORPSES!” He yelped, trying to kick the cadaver off of his leg. “ARABELLA! COME THE FUCK DOWN HERE AND- GET OFF OF MY WAND I JUST GOT IT FIXED FROM LAST TIME!”

Like , okay yes , Hades and Persephone retellings with this particular ship have been in loads of fanfictions and art alike but not with this particular relationship dynamic and I can't stop thinking about it. Catullus 16 by eldritcher

Harry/Voldemort. Rated M. 168000 words.

Fest - @hprecfest. Day 13 - A fic over 100k.

This is a special rec because Cat16 is a really special fic. One of my all time fav fics! The fic was originally written in 2014 and it returned to AO3 in 2023 after it was taken down in 2018. This is a fic I avoid reccing because I don't really think I can do it justice. Lots of prep work went into this rec <3

Cat16 is a glorious love story. Also a scary war story. Also a story about grief, living with the ghosts of the people you lost.

This fic is hard to categorize. It has everything. A depressed, grieving villain avoiding war. A depressed, lonely headmaster avoiding war. A frightened, brave hero who has to walk a pretty fine line between morally good and not so good but doesn't succeed sometimes. Compromises on top of compromises but how do you even with somebody who killed your parents? The grief is visceral/unending/painful to read/painful to think about. Love clasps grief as only love can. This is a repeating theme in every single eldritcher fic. But it really is the biggest ghost haunting Cat16.

The war framing is Grindelwald’s invasion after he escapes from the prison. But the real war is the heart and mind war Harry, Voldemort and Dumbledore have to fight everyday as they make compromises. Dumbledore is charismatic and brilliant. Voldemort also. Their depression, grief and sensuality are the other side of the coin. Definitely not inhuman. Harry is so brave, so hopeful, so flawed, so everything.

You can’t talk about Cat16 without talking about the smut. Because Catullus wrote this poem about sodomy and face fucking. Because eldritcher's love for ficdick isn't like a secret or anything. The opening scene has serious Kill Bill vibes. The fic starts hard, goes hard, doesn’t really stop going hard. Honestly Harry and Voldemort have got to be nonstop dehydrated because of their dickchasing. So much dick. Sexposition is dickposition here :D

Also the character progression. Harry’s character gets layers as he deals with new challenges everyday. Dumbledore’s and Voldemort’s characters work in reverse with them losing layers when they trust Harry more and more. It’s a really brilliant and unusual exposition technique I don’t see a lot in fic. Works for the fic 100%.

The relationship arc has a lot of literary clues about the progression. The locations also show the relationship evolution and the real scale of the fic. The fic starts in Hogwarts, next London, next Canterbury which is really important for Dumbledore's arc, next some war locations, next Hungary in the Carpathians which is the classic Grindelwald setting in eldritcher's fics and the finale is in France locations in Rheims and Verzenay.

Also Grindelwald. The Grindelwald/Dumbledore confrontation in Canterbury with the backstory of Thomas Becket/King Henry is really intense. OMG. This fic. Like any eldritcher fic you can use it to prep for history trivia. Probably better than learning history on Twitter :D Also more fun. Less shouty more smutty. Zero preaching. Zero pretension. Somebody on reddit compared this to hpmor done right which I feel is insulting Cat16 but yeah I get the comparison.

The finale, Acheron, is one of eldritcher's best longfic finales and that's a really high bar right there. The ending is bittersweet and haunting. They are in love, they are together but you finish reading with this loss of innocence melancholy, sweet ache which is going to haunt you for the rest of your life.
