Jojo directing an action romcom about assassin brothers (Khao & Joong) meet a tattoo artist ex-booster (First) and a mechanic (Dunk). I'm highly amused that Joong plays the older brother to Khao, and that we have a at take on Taming of the Shrew for that pair. I like that everyone is morally gray. This has all GMMTV's best chemistry in one BL and some fresh concepts that I've only really seen tackled in m/m romance (check out Amy Lane's Racing for the Sun, thank me later). I'm excited my only quibble is Jojo, I like his style but his characters can get unreliably messy so...

I genuinely dithered over whether this one should be first. Still it was the only trailer I grinned the whole way through, and had to watch 2x, so it takes top spot for me, but closely followed by a surprise silver medal...

Thame-Po (Heart that Skips a Beat)

A boy band member and his documentarian start a forbidden relationship. I LOVE Est and am delighted to see him at GMMTV but I've been getting a fatigued by celebrity BL of late. However, after watching the trailer I'm 100% in on this show. I've been waiting for a Blinding Lights style idol romance and this looks like it might be it (Korea, Japan, and Thailand have systemically disappointed me over the past 2 years). Bring it, boys.

This one involves a coven (hello, who called it way back in 2019? Me. I DID.) Anygay, coven includes Santa (no lies spotter with that one).

WHY MUST THIS BE?!! I really don't like this IP but I still HAVE OPINIONS (of course I do) Look, I doubt even legendary EarthMix can save Ossan for me.

Shall I explain? Too much, let me sum up:

It's a terrible script based entirely on an unsympathetic love triangle, the viability of the whole show actually hinges on the boss character so he MUST be likable, because the lead is an unsympathetic looser (and user of people), and the roommate/love interest has no personality. Looks like this version is doing the same. ALSO Earth is grossly miss-cast. (On the other hand, maybe I'll like it more because of that, I would rather my H were toned down a bit.) Finally... where tf are my ladies? The female characters were the best thing about the original.

Of course I'll still watch it. I'm trash.

Deftones' Around the Fur: I think God is moving its tongue, there's no crowds in the street and no sun. Around the Fur is the sophomore studio album from American alternative metal band Deftones, although the expected dressings of the genre would not always stick. Synopsis - André’s eyes are weird. Everybody knows that. They’ve been changing colors for his entire life, and what started as brown eventually became violet. The doctors have diagnosed it as chroma flux, a rare eye condition wherein the iris changes its color every so often. So when André’s eyes one day become a vibrant pink, it’s not as weird as most would assume.

What is weird is when André’s blood suddenly turns pink too. Even starting to glow. 

What follows is a downwar spiral where the world he once thought he knew shatters completely. Alien creatures begin hunting him down, claiming him to be both a savior and a doomsday machine. Which one is the truth ? No one seems to know for sure. Either way, André is forced to adapt all too quickly to ensure the safety of as many people as possible. And with new strange powers and the desperate need to figure out who to trust, André might just break apart.

André Hernandez, The Neon Phoenix: Extroverted, patient, and helpful, he’s a nice mix of nerd and jock with his knack for programming and parkour. He’s open-minded and while there are some expectations, he’s keen on hearing all the sides before coming to a conclusion. A hopeless romantic with no flirting skills to speak of. 

Salena Bashir, The leader: Observant, strategic, and easy-going, she’s a powerhouse when it comes to performances. Quick to take the lead, even quicker to call people out on their bullshit. She’s athletic, star player on the baseball team and artistic, doodling on any surface that comes her way. Not to forget her being squeamish. 

Piper Hawkins, The Scientist: Curious, stubborn, and imaginative, they’re the smartest one in the group, also the most chaotic. They’re always interested in learning new things and value science and philosophy greatly. While not argumentative per-se, they do enjoy being challenged. Lives almost purely off of caffeine and sheer will.

Xavier Eltsov, The Mediator: Poetic, attentive, and caring, he’s the voice of reason, as best as he can be, that is, with his tendencies for dumbassery. He’s clumsy and awkward in most social and public situations, but he’s unconditionally kind and is always available is anyone needs to talk. Writes a lot, especially for theaters. 

Raj, The Innovator: Gentle, mature, and intelligent, she’s an absolute ray of sunshine for an Apex predator. She’s still cautious about the strange world she’s been sent too, but she’s eager to learn everything about it. Finds immense beauty in the mundane and ordinary.

Epsilon, The Mentor: Protective, apathetic, and clueless, they’re very keen on following their orders, even though they seem to have forgotten them. They’re incredibly strong, and just as soft once that first layer begins breaking down. Asigned as André´s mentor, even though they don’t really know what his purpose is.

Things that keep me up at night: The camaraderie of the Autobots in Armada. Japanese punk and rock artists hitting Rs with that guttural growl. Trying to make up transforming figures in my head that don't exist for certain characters and getting pissed the next morning because I don't have them. Only thing stopping me is lack of access to a resin printer.

I am Mox/Moxter and have been a bot nerd since I was an anklebiter. Mostly gung-ho about other stuff like practical effects, costuming, figures/models, 3D modelling, old tech, lizards, and birding. I do art a little too, but I’m not too fond of the idea of putting it out on here quite yet. I mainly study tech communications, visual effects, and language. Couple years of Spanish but also picking up and learning bits of Japanese and Welsh when I can. I apologize beforehand if you see my dumb ass getting long-winded about Tailgate (full reason being too long to explain here).

I’m generally invested into anything related to toy design— mostly TakaraTomy, HasTak, and Sunrise bot stuff is my focus though. I am hooked on the design development surrounding Binaltech and Alternators for better or worse. And wouldn't you know, a bunch of car robots helped me to realize what I should re-prioritize my career track to be; that's the power of my dumb special interest at work

I’m going to start this off by saying Eren is completely into ethnic women.

If it’s not the way your skin glows under the summer sun, it’s definitely the goddamn brown eyes that are just BEAUTIFUL MAN.

He won’t say it, but he is such a nerd for learning more about your culture. Learns a lot about black history and excitedly tells you the new stuff he learned. He gets so happy when he learns about inventions by black people too.

He gets really mad about a lot of social issues though. He’s a really good listener when it comes to you voicing your feelings about something that’s happened in the community. Definitely an unapologetic activist.

Take him to a predominantly black church, watch him be all awkward but tapping his toes. He’ll tell you after that he really enjoyed it and had a lot of fun. He may not be feeling the Holy Ghost, but he is definitely going with you on sunday just to enjoy it with you

Over all, he just loves you so much, he gets to experience so,etching new every single day and he loves it. Especially when it comes to music, food, and clothing. Dress him up please, he likes it. Use him as a wig stand too.

When you started dating, you were definitely surprised by how much he actually knows about black culture. It’s all because he wanted to make sure he never says anything to you that makes you upset. If he has questions about something, he is going right to those books and the internet. He’s also not afraid to ask you questions but he would prefer to not burden you with the responsibility of educating him.

If you grew up in a predominantly white neighborhood, he tries his best to make you feel comfortable about being your most authentic self and not washing yourself down for him. He doesn’t like it when you hold yourself back or fix your speech so that he can understand you better, he’ll fight you to be yourself. USE YOUR AAVE AND TEACH HIM.

He really likes the way you talk. He takes note of any little inflectional accented letters in the words you speak. He will use words like “bussin” and “Chile” in the wrong way, so please just… stop him, he’s trying his best.

He’s also really into African American protective hairstyles and why they are important

Definitely sits down with you and helps you with your hair. He’s not the best with it, but he is definitely helpful. Like he’ll at least hold stuff for you or let you use his hand as the pallet for the grease or gel. If you’re a wig wearer, he likes being the model while you shape it. If you’ve got an Afro, he’s buying you the cutest bonnets to wear at night.

Mikasa Ackerman

The thing she loves so much about you is how she’s able to swap cultural experiences with you. 🥺

She grew up in a half Asian household and has a lot of things to share. The fact that she gets to mix her culture with yours is incredible to her. Especially with food because traditional Japanese dishes with traditional African American foods is fun to combine

She is really into r&b music, too. Swapping music with her is so much fun because she finds some new artists she’s never heard of before. She really likes Destiny’s Child

Asks you a lot of questions, too. It’s always light hearted and she means so well. She wants to know more about your family, the dynamic, what kinds of struggles you went through, the celebrations.

Bring her to parties and family functions, she is a visual and hands on learner.

Calls you beautiful every single day. There’s not a single thing about you that she doesn’t love.

Jean Kirschtein

Jean definitely gets quite the culture shock when you first start living together.

Mainly because of the food. He is not used to any cuisine that as a little spice in it. The first time you cool all the fixings for him, he is overwhelmed. It smells so good and some is familiar, but he’s never had them in this way.

He’s eating all of it anyways honey. He’s telling you it’s BUSSIN. Every fuckin meal, bro, he is saying it. Y’all can’t even go to cookouts because he says it so loud, tell him to STOP. (But don’t because it sounds funny and he’s just trying to express his love for soul food.)

OH AND DANCING. BRO. He learns a lot about how dances were ripped off from black people and he asks you to teach him the correct way to do it, if you know how. If not, he’ll happily teach you. He loves the history of it, too.

He is very active as an ally and does a lot of work to make sure the community you guys live in is accepting and safe for you and everyone else.

It really does take him a minute to get into the swing of daily life, but he is so happy he met you and that you let him in.

Sasha Braus

You already know I’m going to say food with this girl.

The way she is tearing up a plate the first time you cook food for her is a little animalistic. She licks that shit CLEAN. Some soul food at a party is going to be nonexistent if you bring her.

She may not be the brightest girl, but movies are definitely her thing. She likes it when you show her some movies directed by black people like Jordan Peele or Tyler Perry. One of her favorite movies is Dream Girls.

She also asks a lot of questions. (Ahem, her with Onyankopon…) It’s always her trying to learn more but they sometimes come off as a little uhhhhh… you know…. Like that. Don’t worry though, explain things to her and she is immediately apologetic for even asking.

You might have to teach her a few things though, I’m not gonna lie.

Take her to a family reunion or a Juneteenth celebration party, trust me she’ll enjoy herself.

Levi Ackerman

Surprisingly the thing he enjoys the best is the music.

You’d think with his classical tea loving ass, he’d be a little weary with the music, but no! He actually really likes old hip hop and rap. New age is not his favorite, but he likes artist like Tupac, Biggie, Jay Z, Old Kanye. Don’t be surprised to see him rapping randomly. I’ll stand by this.

He’s also really good with hair. Like surprisingly good with it. Like, he could actually just do your hair and you will probably never have to go to a salon ever.

He saw you struggling with yours one morning and noticed how expensive it was for you to get yours done, so he literally went out to any black owned salon and asked if they could teach him how it’s done. For weeks he just spent his free time learning how to do textured hair, which products were good, which ones were harmful, how to style, all of it. He came home one day and saw you booking an appointment to get yours done and told you he could do it. Success.

He also learns your favorite soul food meals. Spends time with your family to learn how you like it.

Overall, Levi isn’t great with words but he shows you he loves you by doing these extravagant things for your that’s how you know he cares about you and how important your heritage is.

Infinity Train Headcanons

Just a bunch of Infinity Train headcanons I've come up with, I'm only doing five per character so it won't too long. I'm mainly gonna focus on the passenger characters and do the denizens later on. Majority of them have been posted on @infinity-train-headcanons already (awesome blog by the way), but whatever here we go:

Tulip

The reason Tulip loves onions so much is because when her mother was pregnant she craved onions a lot. Mrs. Olsen thinks onions are okay at best, but Tulip loves them.

Tulip is fairly athletic (that explains why she could do all those stunts on the train), but prefers gaming and coding. Her classmates that are on sports teams are greatly annoyed that she won't join.

Despite Lake being gone she can still take pictures of herself on cameras or through a selfie (and sometimes see herself in water), because those are images not reflections.

Tulip would so adopt a corgi and name him “Atticus the 2nd” and put miniature crowns on him.

When Tulip goes to Oshkosh she'll based her game on her adventures on the train. Not only will it be super popular, but some of the other campers and counselors will suggest some cars because some of them were passengers as well.

Lake

After, Lake left she accidently started a revolution in the Chrome Car. In the end (in a future fanfic of mine) there will be peace and Lake and a certain group of passengers will help.

Lake won't be able to start school immediately (due to Tulip being in middle school and Jesse being in high school) , but she is able to do homeschooling. Come next school year she'll be at school with Jesse

Lake lives in the Cosay's attic. They've tried to convince her/him/them (other pronouns) to take the guest room, but Lake's cool with it. Mainly, because she/he/they gets a view of the lake she/he/ they named themselves after.

Lake is super into art! It's mainly abstract and black, but she loves it! The problem is Jesse's parents have to buy the spray paint for her.

Lake loves traveling to new places and Jesse brings her/him/them along when the swim team travels to different places.

Jesse

After, the train Jesse decides to join theatre class/club. He mainly gets background or understudy parts, but he loves to sing.

Is a Chicken Choice Judy fan and gets Lake and Nate into them. Jesse and Lake theorize that Chicken Choice Judy were passengers at one point.

Jesse becomes closer with his swim team to be friends, he is currently co-captain.

Jesse really misses Alan Dracula, so, Lake got him one of those deer plushies as a gift. Jesse put glasses on it and named it Alan Dracula the Second and Cuddliest.

Jesse always picks vampire movies during movie night at the Cosay house. I believe he really likes vampires .

Grace

Grace's parents so would've sent her to boarding school after the shoplifting thing instead of just talking to her.

Grace will be the last former Apex member to leave the train due to her number still being high. In the meantime she still helps passengers lower their numbers.

There is no way Grace was the only person to form a cult on the Infinity Train. Grace's was just the longest surviving one of eight years, I won't explain why Grace's was the longest due to... cult stuff.

Grace rarely got to see her maternal grandparents, due to her mother wanting to reject her low-class upbringing. From what little memories she had, Grace misses them.

Grace regrets what she put Hazel through and wants her back, but she knows her leaving was for the best no matter how much it hurts.

Hazel

I don't know why but I see Hazel as a vegetarian.

When Tuba found her she was a baby, not a baby turtle, a baby- baby.

She and Amelia will be close, but will never have a true mother - daughter relationship. I know Amelia is trying to get better, but she admitted she's not a caretaker.

She'll sing Tuba's Lullaby to comfort herself in stressful situations and whenever she feels she'll forget her.

Hazel will be adopted by Ryan and Min-Gi when she gets off the train and Tulip, Lake, Jesse, and Nate will be like siblings to her. Okay, okay, okay, I know that's a very long shot, but Hazel deserves happiness!

Simon

Was a boy scout or took a survival class, I mean how else would he know about frostbite in Le Chat Chalet Car.

Probably went to way too many funerals as a child. I'm going by what he said to Hazel about neighbors brining casseroles.

Simon would get into fights with his teachers and classmates about being right about every little thing, even as a he was a narcissist.

Simon so had a crush on Grace way before their 'awkward middle school kiss' . After, Grace's betrayal whatever feelings he had were gone.

Was a fantasy nerd and wanted to be a fantasy writer. His trilogy book would've had his character based off himself being made a king.

Ryan

Ryan and his youngest brother are the only two in their family who wear glasses.

Is still on good terms with his ex-girlfriends (Disco Girl, Punk Girl, and Hippie Girl). Yeah, they broke up, but Ryan wasn't their worse ex and was nice to them. They love telling Min-Gi embarrassing dating stories.

He most likely had suicidal thoughts, once off the train he tells Min-Gi and gets help through therapy.

Despite not gaining attention during his solo gigs he did make a friend or two during his stops like the lesbian couple at the party in the Twin Tapes. Which helps spread Chicken Choice Judy's music.

Ryan is very strong despite his scrawny appearance, due to carrying equipment, changing tires, and other heavy lifting activities.

Min-Gi

Was diagnosed with dyslexia at an early age. His parents worried this would hamper him so they would hire a tutor after school when he wasn't playing with Ryan.

Is a really good cook, but his main specialties are Korean dishes (his mother taught him) and breakfast food (working at Dumpty's Diner).

Has an artistic side, but rarely used it except for the Chicken Choice Judy t-shirt. Later on he designs the covers for CCJ's CDs.

He most likely has a bunch of older cousins. I think Mr. and Mrs. Parks had Min-Gi late, so he's the baby of the cousins.

To me Min-Gi never shown in interest in dating or romance. His parents tried to set him up a few of their co-workers' daughters, but nothing ever happened afterwards. He does love Ryan though.

Amelia

I believe Amelia will get off the train, but when she does majority of her friends and family and friends will be gone and will return to the train.

Amelia will allow Hazel to play with the denizens while she works on the train. She may not be a caretaker, but she remembers being a child and children need to have fun.

I think Amelia was jealous of Min-Gi and Ryan, since the two remind her of Alrick and herself in their youth and what could've been if he lived. She dubs them 'Destiny Rubbish Duet'.

Amelia would monitor the Snow Car frequently to make sure One would never leave or any passengers interacted with him. But, the one time in thirty years she set her clock on the wrong time to wake up, allowing Tulip to find One-One.

The day Amelia picked out her wedding dress was the same day she got the news of Alrick's passing.

Well, that was a long post. I may do more in the future, so I'll just end it here.

Being the absolute nerd that I am, I managed to include Al Stewart in the most recent essay I wrote for my English class. I thought I'd share it here! It's about songwriting as a medium for storytelling, specifically looking at Al's song "Sirens of Titan" and how it adapts the Kurt Vonnegut novel of the same name. Fair warning, it contains spoilers for the book! Nothing major (except maybe for the ending), but if you'd like to read the book with no idea what to expect, maybe don't read this.

Drawn by the Sirens of Titan: Songwriting as a Form of Storytelling

“We’re gonna do a song based on a book—this is a book by Kurt Vonnegut. The song has got the same title as the book, and they’re both called ‘The Sirens of Titan’”. - Al Stewart, 1977

Al Stewart is a singer-songwriter whose career spans from the mid 60s to the present day. While many other brilliant artists emerged during that time, what sets him apart from the rest is the unique subject matter of his songs. Most pop hits tend to be love-stricken laments or breakup ballads, but Stewart prefers to sing about World War II, Merlin the Magician (the 12th century monk, not to be confused with the Merlin from Camelot), and being trapped underwater in a sunken submarine for 500 years. Through his poetic lyrics and folk-rock sound (which has shifted more into its own category of music over the years), Stewart makes his listeners feel like they, too, are trekking across Moscow in 1941, or are riding on board the infamous Marie Celeste.

His song “Sirens of Titan” is no exception to his masterful storytelling—although the story he tells is not his. Stewart condenses Kurt Vonnegut’s famous 1959 novel of the same name into a brief 2 minutes and 49 seconds. It was one of the first songs of Stewart’s that I fell in love with. I was amazed by the melody, piano riff, and lilting vocals, but most of all, I was completely swept away by the lyrics. Phrases such as “a kiss on the wind” and “yellow and blue of my days” were unlike anything I’d heard before (Stewart 5, 23). It was this song that led me to pick up the original book and explore the wonderful world of Vonnegut. 

While the story remains the same, the way in which it is told has a great impact on the way it is experienced. Where a novel has more room for description, a song can fit a guitar solo. Looking at Al Stewart’s version of “Sirens of Titan” is a great opportunity to explore how songwriting is used as a medium for storytelling.

The original novel takes place in the distant future, known as the “Nightmare Ages”, or “sometime between the Second World War and the Third Great Depression” (Vonnegut 2). It follows a man named Malachi Constant—the richest person on the planet—and his accidental connection to the fate of Earth and its people. He meets Winston Niles Rumfoord who, due to a conflict involving a chrono-synclastic infundibulum, can see the past, present, and future (which is, coincidentally, the title of an Al Stewart album). Rumfoord tells Constant that he and his future wife are destined to go on a series of journeys, and live out the rest of their days on Saturn’s moon, Titan: the home of the mysterious and stunningly beautiful sirens. Constant tries desperately to avoid his destiny, and in doing so, he fulfills it. He spends most of the book with his memories muddled by the armies of Mars, trying to figure out who he is and find his way back home. After getting pulled through Rumfoord’s interplanetary traps, he ends up at the center of a new Earth religion and utters this famous line: “I was a victim of a series of accidents, as are we all” (Vonnegut 233). In doing so, he cements his fate as the mystical Space Wanderer, and realizes that nothing he could do or say can change his destiny. 

Turning the story into a song would mean that there are choices to be made that would not otherwise be considered (or would be, but to a lesser extent) in a novel. Songs are much shorter than novels, which means that some details must be omitted. Al Stewart highlights a couple key points in Constant’s journey, but focuses mainly on his thoughts and actions. Stewart does this by having the lyrics be in first person, as opposed to the third person of the original book. This allows him to limit the story entirely to Constant’s perspective, without including the other characters. In addition, songwriting allows the artist to experiment more with words and phrases without having to describe or explain their meaning. Instead, they can focus more on the feeling behind the words, which is also strengthened by the music. Stewart sets a tone of urgency right away in the introduction of the song. The first two notes—a rapid octave with guitar, bass, and keyboard playing in sync—lead into a sprinkling piano riff, contrasting with the low notes before it. This is followed by a drum roll, before the whole thing repeats a second time. Throughout the whole pattern is one quickly repeating piano chord, like a panicked heartbeat. Then, Stewart jumps in on vocals: 

I was drawn by the sirens of Titan 

Carried along by their call 

Seeking for a way to enlighten 

Searching for the sense of it all 

The urgency presented by the music is only heightened in the lyrics and their use of verbs like “drawn”, “carried”, “seeking”, and “searching” (Stewart 1-4). They imply continuous action; the non-stop search for meaning that follows Constant through his adventures. Stewart continues: 

Like a kiss on the wind I was thrown to the stars 

Captured and ordered in the army of Mars 

Marching to the sound of the drum in my head 

I followed the call 

“Thrown”, “captured and ordered”, “marching”, “followed”... the music begins to steadily build up in intensity as more and more instruments join in—until they return again to the beginning riff, transitioning into the next part of Constant’s adventure (Stewart 5-8). The first verse introduces the basic premise of the story: the narrator is pulled into a celestial adventure outside of his control, then begins to search for some sort of meaning to his experiences. The next verse provides some more context for who the narrator is:

Only to be Malachi Constant 

I thought I came to this earth 

Living in the heart of the moment 

With the riches I gained at my birth 

He wishes “to be Malachi Constant”—to regain his memories—and is only able to guess at who he once was, before the Martian army implanted drums in his head (Stewart 9). In the novel, he (known then, and for the majority of the story, as “Unk”, the nickname given to him by the Martians after his identity was erased), discovers a long and detailed letter addressed to him. He is amazed by the emotion it awakens in him, and is convinced that “the writer was such a lover of truth that he would expose himself to any amount of pain in order to add to his story of truth” (Vonnegut 131). He pictures the writer “as being a marvelous old man with a white beard and the build of a blacksmith”, until he reaches the end and sees that the signature is of his own past self (Vonnegut 132). The letter inspires Unk—and therefore, he inspires himself—to continue on his journey and to search for his wife and son. In the song adaptation, Stewart chooses to have Malachi Constant (as he was on Earth) be the inspiring role model, rather than Unk’s past self behind the letter. While Unk does find out his true name at the end of the novel, Stewart’s version of him seems to know it right away, but still experiences the same sense of uncertainty as his counterpart. While this part of the verse still serves to explain who the narrator is, it does so through a lens of questioning. The line “I thought I came to this earth” especially shows how nothing is clear during this part of Unk’s life; not even the planet on which he was born (Stewart 10). The verse finishes off by jumping into the next part of Unk’s travels:

But here in the yellow and blue of my days 

I wander the endless Mercurian caves 

Watching for the signs the harmoniums make 

The words on the walls

Despite being fascinated by the words, the meaning of these four lines was a mystery to me until I read the book. There is not enough room, in lyrics alone, to introduce and explain the small, paper-thin aliens known as harmoniums, which glow a pale blue as yellow cave walls shine through them. Hearing the lines “Watching for the signs the harmoniums make / the words on the walls” most likely would not be enough to evoke in somebody the mental image of glowing diamond-like shapes rearranging themselves to form the words “IT’S AN INTELLIGENCE TEST!” as Unk and a fellow ex-Martian try to escape the twisting caves of Mercury (Stewart 15-16, Vonnegut 198). Even so, there is a benefit to not quite getting the full context, and that is to be able to enjoy the song spoiler-free before reading the book, and witnessing the meaning of the lyrics gradually start to unfold as you grow to understand the story. 

As haunting, wordless background vocals and many different instrumental rhythms layer and grow on top of each other, a harpsichord lick swells into a guitar solo, and the song reaches its climax. The notes ascend and descend rapidly, like a moving spaceship, and the urgency present at the start of the song is now audible in full force. Although the solo is not very long, it feels like it takes up just enough time for Constant (at this point aware of his true identity) to arrive at his final destination. As the solo ends, the descending bass and guitar echo the beginning of the song once more, and Stewart sings again: 

I was drawn by the sirens of Titan 

And so I came in the end 

Under the shadow of Saturn 

With statues and birds for my friends

The first line, same as the one in the first verse, offers a similar sense of closure to the book. Even though the song does not mention Constant’s experiences with being the center of Rumfoord’s religion, reuniting with and coming to love his family, and discovering that the Earth was created to send a message of greeting to the farthest point in the universe, there is still a similar feeling of completeness without the resolution of those storylines. The language used is final, and no longer a constant stream of action. When Constant’s life finally comes to a close, he is finally content with it for the first time.

Finding a home at the end of my days 

Looking around I've only to say 

I was the victim of a series of accidents 

As are we all

The last line in the song, which is repeated until it fades out, is directly quoted from Vonnegut’s words. Although it is said more towards the middle of the book, Stewart’s choice to move it to the end and repeat it serves to emphasize its importance. This is the only change that Stewart makes to the order of events in the song, but it does slightly alter the final conclusion drawn from the story. In the novel, Unk utters the line when he returns to Earth and realizes that his life had never been in his control in the first place. He is then forced into the role of the Space Wanderer, once it is revealed that the exact words he would say had been prophesied. At the end of the book, Constant’s final realization is vastly different. “It took us that long to realize,” he says, after his wife passes away, “that a purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved” (Vonnegut 320). Although the world remains outside of his control, Constant comes to the conclusion that he can still be content with the life he has, by connecting with those around him. In the song, there are no supporting characters, only the “statues and birds” he calls friends (Stewart 20). For this reason, it makes sense that he never arrives at the same conclusion as his written counterpart, but instead remains on Titan and accepts his life as it is.

There are many methods of storytelling, none better or worse than any of the others, and each have their own strengths and unique qualities. When a story is told through different mediums, it feels to me like an invitation to explore the directions taken by each of them. In “Sirens of Titan”, Al Stewart does a wonderful job of telling Vonnegut’s story in a different voice; one backed by a variety of instruments and siren-like background singers. As I listen to the song for the who-knows-which time, I am once again fascinated by how well it achieves what it set out to do… as, I’m sure, are we all.

The following recounts my disastrous teen experience with love and destiny, where I was simultaneously Adrien and Marinette (from Miraculous Ladybug) with a Love Destined By Fate(TM), and my own near-love-square identity shenanigans that were the result of a bunch of dominoes set off by watching Sailor Moon as a teen with that dang elevator scene and subsequent delicious angst @lnc2 reminded me of and drop kicked me back into ancient feels over XD

The dominoes started in 1998 when a friend remarked he liked Sailor Moon. I hadn't gotten into anime yet but I respected his opinions and art talent so I gave it a try. It was horrible! The first episode I saw was the theme park one where Serena and Rei are competing over Darien and it just seemed so ridiculous and juvenile. But boredom and afternoons spent with Cartoon Network brought me back to the show and the shenanigans eventually hooked me. I was also into the image songs and hollered along to the Kid Rhino CD.

At that time I was a Junior in high school (11th grade), and one year into a deep crush with the violin prodigy in my honors classes. My oh moment literally snuck up on me the year before in the art class we shared, while "All I Want for Christmas" was playing. Instead of "is You" my brain whispered "is Crush's Name" and my world came to a grinding halt as I froze then looked over at his table and went Oh Noes.

I had it bad. But like Marinette, I couldn't bring it up to him, I didn't have the guts. And when I found out he had a long distance girlfriend, I tried to backburner my feelings. But Fate kept throwing us together. We had all the same classes together except foreign language. We both had ADHD and had seriously chaotic ene-rivals-almost-friends energy together. We were born on the same day. In every math class our seating was right next to each other, despite taking place in two different rooms, being non-alphabetical, and changing up mid year. The universe was making sure this guy stayed stuck in my head, but I was too dang slow to make a move when he ended up single again. I'd had a love letter written in wingdings ready to attach to his locker with some chocolates for Valentines and I chickened out. Then he started dating The Most Perfect Girl (seriously she was amazing. Beautiful, Top Grades, Honor Society, Track Star, and Genuinely Nice). So I backburnered again. We graduated and went to separate colleges and I've only seen him once since, but he was still in my brain rent free until 2001.

Meanwhile I was also Adrien because it took me a damn decade or two to retroactively realize all the times a guy or girl was interested in me back then. I blame being a social outcast nerd and my inability to read social cues coupled with being conditioned to never trust anyone being nice (because it was usually a trick to go Ha Ha she fell for it).

I did finally date some in 1999 but it didn't pan out. My next relationship was in 2000 online, part of the Sailor Moon dominoes.

College in 1999 gave me Ethernet and SenshiTV.dhs, which had all of Sailor Moon from S3 onward subtitled in two part downloads. That meant I could watch Part A as Part B downloaded, then watch the second half of the ep while downloading the next Part A. I spent many nights not sleeping due to this, no regrets. I discovered the original soundtrack and supplemental image songs and fell in love with them. This transferred to the Ronin Warriors and Gundam Wing soundtracks, too. Finding music that wasn't a midi was trickier back then, til community College in 2000 when a guy pointed me to AudioGalaxy, a peer sharing site for any and all music.

Each genre or artist had its own message board, and I settled into the Gundam Wing Message Board where I met a lot of people I'm still friends with today, including @absentlyabbie and my Hub. The message board was a text based RP hub, a hodgepodge of fantasy and sci-fi from various popular anime at the time plus Just Plain Random. I ended up cyber dating one of my RP partners, and our character pairing was a popular one on the main non-Gundam RP. But after we met in person we just didn't work out, and I couldn't find any peace when I logged in to RP or join the board or AIM chats because our friend group kept bemoaning how OTP we were.

So... I made another login, complete with new AIM name, so that I could still hang out but be left to my own devices as I swore off men. Of course, as soon as I did, I was hit with another Oh moment with one of my friends in the RP group.

We were on AIM doing something and he used his lightning ability. My secondary character, Eve, went something weebish like "ooo, inazuma no karada". Then I realized I hadn't picked quite the right words, so I had my original account, Kitz, laugh at me and call me out for talking about Storm's naked lightning body.

Somehow after that we ended up together as Storm and Eve, both in RP and out, while I wingmanned for myself as his other friend Kitz (he was one of my supports and confidante after the breakup). We spent Thanksgiving together in 2003 when I was visiting my Aunt in his home state, then he moved in with me in 2005. We got married a bit later and have two kids together.

As an aside, our RP characters had twins, then months later his RL sister got pregnant with twins. A few years later our characters had another child... and so did she. We decided our characters were done having kids then, lol.

But yeah... because I watched Sailor Moon after randomly overhearing a friend mention it, I ended up overcoming my not-so-fated crush and have had a wonderful 20 year relationship with my best friend (we spent years watching the same shows together over the telephone).

On a different branch of those dominoes I also met @silentmagi and @brushfeathers-thoughts and was introduced to furries which is how I finally realized I'm Bi, Ace, and Nonbinary. But that's another story!

Ughhh so I’ve been debating posting this because: a) I don’t want to be *that* fan b) I don’t want to impose on how ppl interact/interpret fandom c) at the end of the day it’s just fiction so it doesn’t matter

But it’s eating at me and uhhhhhhgghhh I have to say something. Please don’t come for me, this is not me calling anyone out- you are all valid, this is me being an old lady yelling at cloud. Ignore me, ignore me if you don’t agree with me and seriously go on with your lives.

So to start out, I have friends in the video game industry in licensing and merchandising for a few AAA studios-specifically in the creation of the guidebooks/official art books/lore compendiums etc.

These books are created off of information from the game’s artists, writers and narrative producers.

And the general rule of thumb is: unless noted otherwise- character traits such as height, weight, etc. do not account for clothing, accessories,hairstyles, etc.

If a character has augmentations which may effect a stat and it’s vital to the character or story at large-it’s listed.

A good example of this is Peridot from SU. There are character sheets that list her height in relation to her environment with and without her leg extenders. We have two stats for her height.

This for the most part, is pretty standard across the board in the video game/animation industry because they want people(artists and designers in particular) to understand a character’s scale in relation to their environment. Help cosplayers understand how an outfit/character’s form works (not that they *need* to 100% accurately represent a character to cosplay as that character), and because they know their fellow nerds live and breath to know this information.

Soooo this is my long winded explanation to say that Apollo is most likely not 5ft tall and running around with two almost half-foot spikes on his hairline.

I feel if this was the case, AA is silly enough to state that fact. And yes, while this is the world in which Daryan can have a 3ft pompadour, the main attorneys’ designs are less gonzo compared to the clients and witnesses. So it’s unlikely based on what I’ve been told by my friends, that Apollo’s design, which is meant to have appeal while being distinct to AA’s style, would have his hairstyle effect his official stats. The horns are an element to Apollo’s overall design- the Art of Ace Attorney says they’re symbols of him as a “young sprout” in the legal world.

They’re visual elements on the same level as his red suit. You wouldn’t assume Apollo’s listed weight includes him wearing clothes (maybe if he was wearing armor, but then his weight with and without armor would prolly be listed)- so when a stat is listed, that character most likely is that stat regardless of how they styled their hair that day.

And if we follow the logic of what people are sharing about Apollo’s height then we have to ask ourselves things like- “is Trucy really her official stated height or is that including the top hat? Maybe she’s 5 inches shorter” “Is Klavier really 6ft? He is wearing motorcycle boots so that could be giving him some height so maybe he’s actually 5ft 8in”.

And if you believe that, fine. You do you. It doesn’t matter, I stg, I may delete this once I’m done writing this. But I just wanted to share what I know from “the inside”.

And considering that the Japanese studios go into more depth on character details due to fandom, cosplay, virtual idols,doujin/fanworks being a huge industries in parts of Asia- if Apollo was actually 5ft with two 5in horns in his head- that is a detail that would have been noted allllll the way back in the AA4 guide, and there would have been even more meta jokes -official and unofficial- about him being a smol fierce loud lawyer man.

Sooo yes, he’s still a small birb when compared to Phoenix, Miles, Klavier, and Simon, but he’s more than likely not *that* short.

And honestly, if you love 5ft Apollo, I love and support you and wish you nothing but the best in your pursuits of fandom happiness.

I think the idea of 5ft Apollo, who has to climb Klavier like a tree, is cute. But also I’ve had in my brain for the last 13 years that Apollo is 165cm/5ft 5in-ish (okay he’s like 5ft 4.961 inches, I’m rounding up- I’m not his doctor) so it’s what I’m defaulting to when I write.

I guess if anyone wants to ask the artists/creators the next time there is a con or an interview, if Apollo’s spikes are included in his height-please do. I would love to know XD. And if I’m wrong please let me know, but rn I’m going off of the Art of Ace Attorney and the Dual Destinies art book.

But yeah, just needed to write my feelings out- I’m sorry I stg I never do this; please carry on with your lives and leave me to scream at my cloud.

I think Plesantview have many examples which could fit for that idea just like Bella - Cassandra, Mary Sue - Lilith/Angela, Dustin - Beau and Darren - Dirk.

Hello my dear anon! Thank you for this curious question. Because, in spite of the fact that I don’t agree with some of these points (and I’ll explain why) I adore to discuss ts2 lore! And I hope it’ll interesting for you just like it's for me.

In my ‘you don't have to be like them’ post I was analyzing really bad sims who did, without exaggeration, terrible things (sometimes it was evil and frightening). And that of course doesn’t mean these characters are least favorite for us. On the contrary they’re deservedly the most beloved by the players. Each of them has their own unique story. Some of these sims have changed (like PT9), the other wont regret what they did for the rest of their days (like Olive). For example, I hate xenophobes in real life but I love playing with Buzz Grant. I mean, these sims are nice to play meanwhile they’re not really nice. Pleasantview is a completely different thing. Yes, there’re bastards there too. And perhaps Brandi Broke killed her husband (although to be honest the developers never hinted at this)... But even these situations and these sims are not as extraordinary as, for example, a serial killer or an alien racist. And actually life in Pleasantview is more trivial. But I still want to explain everything with more details.

Point 1. Bella and Cassandra. I know there’re a lot of speculations about Bella’s disappear, we have a bunch of theories and I love them all. But I’m so nerd who prefer to stick to the realities (that’re boring just like me). Bella Goth was abducted by the aliens because of Caliente sisters’ collusion. She didn’t run away, she wasn’t killed, etc. This is how the developers presented this story to us. This is canon. And Bella is a very good person (she has 7 nice points) and she is really humble (only 3 outgoing points). She and Cassandra have a very similar personality. If you look at Cassandra's memories, you will find that her mother taught her all toddler skills (without Mortimer). Bella Goth is a wonderful mother. In addition, Bella refused Don. This is what Cassandra has to do. Cassandra should be like Bella (actually she is). And I can see nothing bad about their relationships or about our ‘lady in red’.

Point 2. Darren and Dirk. What’s wrong with Darren? He’s definitely of the nicest sim in this game! We talk about the widower who truly cares for his son and supports Dirk. Perhaps you mean that Dirk is a fortune sim so he can see his father as a loser. Because Darren left the business carrier to realize his dream of becoming an artist. And this’s not so ‘economically efficient’… I can definitely see this kind of conflict between them. It’s very interesting. But I’m sure Darren can demonstrate to his son sometimes money and a career are not enough for self-realization. So I belief Dirk should be like Darren.

Point 3. Mary Sue and Lilith/Angela. Their situation is more complicated but we still can avoid a tragedy. Mary Sue works very hard and often forgets about her family. Especially it hurts Lilith who hasn't received enough love from her parents since childhood. But I want to note the relationship between Mary Sue and ‘an evil twin’ is not the most terrible (unlike the relationship between Lilith and Daniel). Mary Sue makes the typical mistakes that many parents make. This can damage them a lot, but she still has a chance to fix it. And she loves her girls and has never done anything terrible. However, I feel like Lilith and Angela should be more independent from their parents’ influence that seems to me toxic in some way.

Point 4. Dustin and Beau. Close enough to the main idea. Even in Beau's biography, there’s a mention of his bad ‘genetic destiny’. But this’s only one case. And in fact Dustin is still very young. And he also has a chance to change his life. Especially if he'll be under the influence of his girlfriend Angela (after all, his biography says that deep in his heart ‘wishes people would tell him what to do’).

I know it was a quite long. But I hope I managed to explain everything :)

What my oc’s music taste would be if they lived during this time (Using picrews for oc’s)

Hello! So, I’m using my oc’s from the Reaperverse to show what I think their music choice would be. This is because my oc’s story takes place in a time in the future where things like movies, songs, tv shows, etc from the past have been banned.

Because I can’t guess what type of music people will be listening to in the 22nd century, I decided to choose some songs and artists that people in real life listen to! (Hope that makes sense)

Again, I’m using djarn’s character maker which you can find on picrew and I hope you enjoy!

(I’m only doing the main reaper group, Tempus, for this time, I might do a part two with other characters if this does well!)

7. Aidan Wansell (He/him)

-Mr blue sky by ELO (He would hate how cheery it was but then he would start to enjoy it)

-In my room by ICP (Would sing it under his breath at random times to annoy Nathan)

-Some nights by Fun (He likes it)

-Barbie girl by Aqua (Nathan would annoy him with it by singing it all the time that he started to randomly sing it whenever it popped into his head)

-Seven nation army by the White stripes (His favourite song, he’ll scream to this song)

-All I want by Kodaline (He’ll cry to this song and won’t stop until Nathan catches him)

-Harness your hopes by Pavement (He will vibe to this with Nathan)

-Line without a hook by Ricky Montgomery (He doesn’t feel romantic or sexual attraction but this song would get him sobbing on the ground)

-I’ll make a man out of you from the Mulan movie (It’s a GOOD song from a GOOD movie and he would scream his lungs out to it)

So I thought I’d finish yesterday but I didn’t. We had a lot of stuff happening. Anyways here’s chapter five. Enjoy!

The Silent Queen 5; Apple Doesn’t Fall Far From the Tree

Apple now stood in front of Grimm’s office, waiting a second to focus herself pans allow herself to smile. Why was she so worried, she’s Apple White, the soon to be fairest of them all. The headmaster loves having her as a student, she could get her way and everyone would watch as she helped fix Raven. Then she would be considered a hero and Raven would understand her! What was better then that?

The blonde White knocked the door to Grimm’s office twice, keeping her bright smile on. Soon she heard a tired “Enter.” Through the wood and immediately opened the door. She plastered on a bright smile. “Headmaster Grimm I would like to request something of you.” She chirped, she was honestly shocked when she saw how tired the headmaster was.

“What is it now Apple. I’m a little busy right know trying to rework Miss Queens schedule.” The tone was harsh though it was also quite soft. Apple felt sorry for the headmaster he had so much on his plate right now. What Apple was doing would help him. She just knew it!

Apple cleared her throat. “I would like to formally request that I am transferred to be Raven Queens new roommate.” She finished with cheery smile and stared at her shocked headmasters face.

“Do you speak sign language Miss White?” Headmaster Grimm questioned looking at the girl in front of him. Apple’s smile faltered. He frowned he knew exactly what was happening.

“No I don’t Headmaster. But seeing as -“ The headmaster cut her off. No one ever cut her off! She was Apple White, people were supposed to listen to her every word!

“Miss White I will only say this once. Raven has been deaf since birth. If you think that you can fix it then you are sorrowfully mistaken. Now please leave I have much more important things to do at this current moment.” The headmaster finished with an air of authority. He should have known this would happen. It was true he had blamed Mira earlier but then again he had forgotten about the swan princess from four generations ago. Platinum Swan deafness has only slightly changed the story. Making her less able while in the swan form. He couldn’t say it was a happy ending for Platinum, but it never was for the Swans. Apple stared at him as if she’s been slapped. Then she turned around and walked out of the door slamming it while muttering to herself about ^destiny^ and ^fate^. Grimm sighed were all Snow Whites so challenging?

Apple stormed into her dorm room to see Kitty and Lizzie sitting the future Cheshire Cats bed. It was a weird bed in a weird cave like wall. Apple didn’t think about it too hard. Wonderlandians never made any sense to her. She shot a glare at her roommate before morphing it into a pleasant (enough) smile. “Could you two please leave? I want to phone my mom.” She said in a sweet tone. She didn’t notice the grimaces on the other girls faces as they left to go to Lizzie dorm.

Apple pulled out her phone and went to the contacts picking out her moms she pressed call and waited. “Hello. Who’s calling?” The strained voice of her mother came out.

“Hi mom it’s me Apple.” Apple chirped looking at her mother thru the screen. She was holding a nail file and seemed more interested in it then her phone. She looked up at her daughter smiling a little.

“How’s your first day of Legacy Year? Are you doing well?” She questioned noticing the way Apple almost bit her lip. Diana rolled her eyes and spoke “Princesses don’t bite their lips. What happened?

Apple began to tell her story. Of how Raven Queen was deaf, how everyone thought it was natural and that Grimm wouldn’t let her switch rooms to help Raven because she didn’t speak sign. Apple looked at her mom with pleading eyes. “So what should I do?”

“Simple Apple. Find a new Evil Queen.” Snow felt as if it was obvious but it seemed that her daughter didn’t feel that way.

“How can I find a new Evil Queen. It’s always the child of the last one.” Apple pouted. She knew how the book worked. It wasn’t like anyone could be picked to be a character. Especially not one from her tale.

Snow rolled her eyes and started to file her left hands nails. “If someone hasn’t had a child then this it goes at random. Why do you think there’s so many different families of Charmings? Look at all the girls in your school, pick one and make her understand how important this is. Our stories future is in your hands Apple.” Snows voice was stern and Apple had to stop her self from shivering.

A weak “Yes ma’am” slipped from her throat. Once the call ended Apple thought to herself. It couldn’t be that hard to find someone less pretty then her could it?

Giles Grimm sat at his desk looking at the list of students who understood sign language. The list comprised of eleven students.

He understood Cerise and Cedar. Childhood friends because of their parents. Ramona too he understood, Remus was close with Mira. Maddie it seemed was another friend of Ravens. He could guess the Hunter learned it in preparation for the next Snow White tale. He would have to understand Raven to take orders from here.

He wasn’t sure why the others knew sign but he was grateful that they knew. In total there were eight classes each day. He just had to make sure that at least one of the students would be with her at all times.

Raven lightly tilted the small mirror on her desk to point the other way. ‘And we’re done!’ She smiled as she stared at her side of the room. It was nowhere near as chaotic as Maddies but it was close.

The walls were a dark blueish purple and paint canvases were piled besides her bed. Her black desk sat in a corner across from her drawer filled with paint, paint brushes and other art supplies. Some fake flowers she had made with Butternut and Pie were floating on ribbons she had attached via her magic, she noticed one of the bouquets start to slip, she immediately used her magic to tighten the bond of the ribbon. He eyes changing to a vivid violet before returning to the seaweed green they always were. Maddie was on the roof of her side have some tea with her mouse. Raven couldn’t wait to see how this year would go.

So since Raven can’t have a passion for music I made her an artist. Mostly paintings though.
